Temple was the one of the best thing we visited. Beautifully set alongside the river Nile. Arriving up to the temple by boat gives you a royal feeling. Locals were paddling around as well which added to great feeling of happiness.

The Temple of Philae is on an island in the reservoir of the Aswan Dam. It was built in 690 BC to honor Isis, the Egyptian goddess of healing and magic. It was one of the last places of worship built in the classical Egyptian style.

Magical, out of this world.. it has a story that it was submerged and rescued when Egypt built its Dam over the nile ... you can still see the water line over the building after all those years. The whole city is a beauty and Philae is a must see spot...

I think this is one of the most beautiful buildings in ancient Egypt It collects many cultures beginning with the Greeks to Romans, added to the ancient Egyptian culture passing through Christian and Muslim cultures also, these give the place a unique taste The current site of the temple is smaller than the original one making some distortion The sound and light show at night is a perfect experience I usually enjoy my time every visit, hope that you enjoy too

Yet another spectacular temple in Egypt. This one is on an island in the lake between the old and new dams. As with other temples in this area, this one would have been lost under the waters when the dam was created but was dismantled into thousands of pieces and moved to an island above the water level. Get a small boat there in about 5 mins for a pleasant stroll through ancient history.

Beautiful temple worth the visit. We spent one hour looking around which felt like enough time. The boat situation is not the best, we paid 200 LE for there and back as two. The children that were driving the boat tried changing the price upon arrival to the temple. Just pay after and don’t pay more than the prices on the sign. The boat ride over is scenic.

Our second stop of the day, was Philae Temple. We needed to take a short but relaxing boat ride to the island, the temple had been moved due to flooding from the Dams construction. The original site of the temple was said to be one of the islands where Isis had found one of Osiris's body parts. Tickets cost 200 EGP per person, 100 EGP for students (I believe 6-17 year-olds), and free for 5 and under! The temple was beautifully preserved especially considering the flooding and reconstructions. The temple told the story of Isis and Osiris, of Isis gaining her wings to help find her husband. As well as the temple, the island had souvenirs, a cafe, and toilets. All toilets by the historical sights and between 5 EGP and 20 EPG charge. Kira had one of her refreshing mango lollies! Our tour guide Zach was great. He was friendly and informative, we wish him well in his studies in America! On the way back Kira was allowed to drive the boat.

This site is amazing!!!! I could have spent a day here. The boat ride (yes, it is on an island) was nice. The boats definitely are locally maintained, but they worked well. And the view they offered of the site, both on arriving and departing was excellent. The ruins are excellent and exciting. Hard to describe as they were so...well, amazing. Each structure and area was a new experience. The site is large, but also easily walkable. Bring water and sunscreen. And of course, tips for the toilet keepers. Best part was that the vendors stayed on the dock.

A masterpiece. This is so majestic and beautiful. The island and rocky shores are amazing. Best time is to go before sunsets to enjoy the colors and sunset views and take photos in this brilliant lighting condition where the temple will look legendary. It is a miracle how this temple was saved from the water behind the high dam and moved to this new location. Blessed are those who helped save this priceless and timeless masterpiece. The boar trip is amazing with really great views. The Nile is crystal clear in this area. If you have time make sure to visit the nearby Heissa Island. I arrived late just to catch the temple but that island is said to be very good.

The temple is fantastic! This is not the original place of the temple, it was moved from its original place ( it took 10 years to move it and arrange it back) as the original one is now 2 meters under the water, you can still see it if you have a guide with a boat who know where the original one is. You can still see the remaining pieces and when the nile river water level goes down in December you can actually leave the boat and stand of it as a land.

Came here as an add on to an existing tour I was on and I would highly recommend it. We came to the village on a boat from where the cruise ships dock, the boat ride was cold (early February) but it was incredible. The village was cool. Our tour guide brought us through the village, through a house, school, etc. Had a great time! Fun to see the camels walking through the village too!

The Nubian Village was one of my favourite experiences: we had a motorboat ride along the Nile River from Aswan to this beautiful village. After walking for a bit, we met with camels caravans right on the main road, where all the colorful shops are located. That view was superb! Another activity we had was going to the Nubian School where a local teacher showed us the numbers and letters in Egyptian and Nubian languages - never thought nations that lived together for so long could have such different pronunciation. After the arab lessons, we went for tea and henna tattoos at a very welcoming home where they kept the Nile crocodiles safe for good luck and to guard the tradition (or so they say). Exquisite experience. This place is a must on any list that involves Aswan or any area nearby.

After several days of visiting temples visiting this village was a nice change of pace. Meeting the people, eating their food, dancing and singing with them, meeting their crocodiles, and finally the obligatory bartering over a trinket you can probably live without, all added up to a really pleasant evening. To top it off we had a wonderful boat ride there and back and saw an amazing sunset over the desert.

Boat tour to the Nubian Village was the highlight of my Nile River Cruise trip. If this is offered as an optional tour event in your package, I highly recommend taking it. The view from the motor boats heading to the village was amazing, especially during the sunset hours. The village is built as a tourist attraction, but the prices are negotiable and very reasonable. There are many vendors and resources in the village. Overall a great cultural experience.

Nice place to explore, the hospitality and the spirit of the people are enormous. The colourful houses and streets are joyful to see. Do not miss this trip, so different than the rest of Aswan.

Very small village where you will find very traditional things. Loved the homes with crocodiles to protect from evils. You can also get the black henna done while you are there to visit. There is a mosque so you can do your prayers as well. From half way, you can take camel ride which was fun village by itself is very colorful. This tour was optional by our guide so we ended up paying extra. I wouldn’t advice to go with guide here as it’s pretty much self explanatory boat ride can be arranged on your own.

Great people and work very hard to earn their day. Must visit and buy from their little shops to help them out. You need to get a boat to visit the village. There was working going on, on all the roads. There will be better roads in few months.

A place to go by boat. It's a very pretty neighborhood, and there are many pretty handmade items made by Nubians themselves. It is a good place to spend leisurely time over a cup of coffee or tea. In the middle of the village, a restaurant and local cafe run by locals raises crocodiles, so you can see them up close. The Nubian people are really kind and pure, and it seems to be melted into the Nubian Village. In addition, unlike the locals in Egypt, Nubian villages do not solicit customers, so you can escape from stress while traveling. You can also go by car, but if you go by boat, you can see a good view and enjoy much more romance than by car. A boat can be rented for around £500 to £700 for 5 hours, which is a good price.

By boat we go to the colorful village. Nice people nice seating in the cafe on the Nile. Otherwise one souvenir store after the other. It is recommended to visit the island in the evening

The colours are nice, it's picturesque, but kind of small, and too much pushy commerce. We also don't agree with the crocodile exploration without conditions for the animals, thus our rate! However going there by boat, it's quite a nice travel, with great views of contrast, and we recommend a swim at Nilo's beach near by! Great moments!

A beautiful and colorful Nubian village which is located south of Aswan city. You may reach with boat from Aswan city where the Nil Cruise is usually parked. It is an adventurous and breezy trip through the pure azure Nile river from Aswan to Nuba, make sure you get some photos/videos along the trip. Once you disembark you will find many vendors and people selling different types of products. However, make sure you won't give in and just buy the first thing you find, bargain and check different prices to reach a conclusion. People are friendly and overall environment is quite peaceful and calm, being. a photographer, i was more focused on covering the Nile side for some Landscape shots. The tour usually would include visiting a traditional house which is set for tourists, there will be a small scale event whereby traditional singers who wear colorful folklore costume and would sing local songs in Nubian language and Arabic. There you would be eating as well, i agree with other reviews on the poor status of the crocodiles in cages, not an exciting thing to be covered. Enjoy your Trip !!

Visited 17 October 2022 Whilst this is touted as an "authentic village" it is no more than a tourist trap mainly a lunch or dinner stop and the cavalcade of stalls offering spices, incense sticks, ceramics and t shirts. Visited by boat in early afternoon we first had lunch in one of the many eateries. We were the only patrons there until a bus load of Spanish tourists arrived and ruined the ambient relaxing nature of the place after spending the morning at The Tombs of the Nobles. We then traversed the streets and was shown one authentic place which our guide showed us which contained traditional tools of the Nubians and instruments and the like. If you want true authentic Nubian culture then I would recommend the Nubian museum or spend some time on Elephantine Island. We were also taken to the courtyard where the unfortunate crocodiles are kept. Please don't take photos or handle the poor creatures.....the exploitation of animals is rife in Egypt and these particular animals have it bad in coffin like cells. The guide asked us if we wanted to take pictures and we said No. Instead he arranged us to try some hibiscus tea which was actually nice and refreshing. The rest of the time we spent walking the gauntlet of the stalls. While most of the vendors were not that pushy the stalls were basically the same items over and over. They did keep trying to sell us spices and in turn we kept saying no point as being from Australia the spices would be confiscated upon re-entry home. Yes it's a colourful place and the residents are all pretty friendly but it wouldn't be a bad thing if you skipped this tourist trap. Aswan city has a souk which sells all the same items for much cheaper and a little more variety. The only good thing is the length of time it takes to get there and back on the motorboats as they meander the river at a leisurely pace.

We took a small boat ride to get to the Nubian Village, located on the banks of the Nile. It was very fun there was music and we also stopped on the way. The village has an outdoor market that is extense. I would have enjoyed more time to visit the place but it was getting dark. We were told that the Nubians still were allowed to have crocodiles as pets because of their religious beliefs. What we saw was a quiet sad small cage with a crocodile inside. That was very upsetting and disappointing. I would say that other then that it was a unique experience.

Nice place to visit and experience the Nubian village and traditional way of living, clothes and food. Always need to barter them with them with the price but they're nice people so always hold a smile. You'll see camels just chilling and lazing around, and you can also request to ride a Camel too. They have the traditional shows which we didn't get to see as we were rushed for time.

The place worth your time and you should visit. Is calm at night, great to enjoy local tea and coffee whi river view. Take care with prices and locals trying to sell overpriced items.

I found this place to be little more than a tourist trap. Any semblance of the village life has been largely striped away and replaced with shop after shop and merchants trying to get you into their stall. I had been looking forward to this and left disapointed. Very glad that we were staying in the area and hadn't forked out for a tour from Aswan

Nubian is a small Village in Aswan Egypt , The tribes that live in this area are called the Nuba tribes. They are known for their generosity, and among their customs they raise crocodiles to ward off the devil. They trade in local handicrafts such as carpets, clothes, and statues. The houses are distinguished by their white and light blue color. You can visit this area by renting a motor boat. I enjoyed this visit because it is something new.

This is a very important project for the Egyptians.This place is well guarded. It's Egypt's lifeline to the economy so you need to read a bit about it before you visit. Otherwise it'll be a huge disappointment for you as a tourist.

What I liked about this was not just the engineering etc but the views of the surrounding Nubian villagers and just thinking of what this was like back in the days.

The new dam is quite a feat of Egyptian/Russian engineering and created a control of the Nile that allowed the flooding to be managed. In doing so they flooded an entire community and relocated then to the west shore of the river Nile.

Visited on 16 October 22 This was the first site we saw in Aswan. It does help if you know some history of the dam and the geo political competition played between the USA and USSR in the era of the Cold War. The views of Aswan and the old dam are excellent as is the view of Lake Nasser.

Access to power plant was not possible. The only area open to visitors was the Interpretive center consisting of photos and diagrams. Interpretive displays were limited and sun bleached. It was a bit of a disappointment given that this dam was one of the greatest engineering projects of its time.

High Dam was awesome and has an amazing history that was insightful. Definitely recommended to check it out!

I enjoyed it, but if you are short of time then there are better things to see around Aswan. It is impressive the size and you get an idea of how they did it. Be aware though there are guards around who want to take you on a tour and expect a decent tip

This is a simple, but fascinating place to see. It apparently is the largest site from which obelisks were carved, and one cracked obelisk was left halfway carved. It is a long, hot climb, so it might not be for everyone, but those who appreciate the work and craftsmanship will be impressed.

Worth a visit if you're in Aswan, the Obelisk is huge and it is amazing to see and imagine the workers carving this huge rock out of the earth. Some helpful signage at the start as well, plus unlike the main tourist sites this was relatively empty. You can walk to it from the river (I did) and then go via the Nubian Museum on the way back as it's very close and definitely worth a visit.

Whilst this is quite an interesting visit to understand how, 4000 years ago, they carved and removed huge chunks of granite to create statues and obelisks, it’s actually just an old quarry you are walking around. The whole trip can be done in about 20 minutes.

It was an incredible experience. As someone who is fascinated by ancient Egyptian history, seeing this unfinished monument up close was truly amazing. The sheer size of the obelisk is awe-inspiring, and it's hard to imagine the amount of work that went into carving it out of the bedrock. What I loved most about my visit was the opportunity to get in touch with the old ways of such works. The site needs to be well-maintained and informative, with plenty of signage and displays explaining the history and construction of the obelisk. It was fascinating to learn about the tools and techniques that were used by ancient Egyptians to create such masterpieces. The site itself is located in a beautiful area by the Nile, and the view only adds to the overall experience. There's also a small gift shop and café on site, which is a nice touch. I highly recommend visiting the Unfinished Obelisk early morning for anyone interested in ancient history or architecture. It's a truly unique experience that allows you to step back in time and appreciate the incredible craftsmanship of ancient civilizations.

Amazing way to see the unexplained stone cutting and moving abilities required to build a 20 meter salinger piece of stone monument. Requires shoes with good grip and not friendly for those with mobility challenges. Bathroom and souvenir shops on site. Caution, not much shade in the summer months.

This site is an amazing piece of history. The obelisk is thought be an order by Hatshepsut, but cracked while it was being created. It is bigger than any other obelisk I saw in Egypt and makes you wonder how in the world they would have moved it. The process of beating the obelisk out of the rock with other rocks is already unfathomable. This spot is also extremely important because anything made of granite in Egypt was most likely sourced from this quarry or one very near here.

This may or not be for you. Was it impressive to see how they would have carved these monuments without the tools of today? Absolutely! Is it worth trekking around unstable steps, dusty and then running the gauntlet of harrassment at the bizarre? No. I was only here about 15 minutes.

Student price is 60 LE about 2 USD. Was it worth it? Not really. The officers there were nice. It is cool to imagine ancient Egyptians hoisting the Obelisk with ancient tools. You can imagine this looking at other temples with obelisks. This is pretty much a rock and a large bazaar by the exit that doesn’t seem to get attention. So you pay entry fee for a 10 minute walk to the gift shop. I only recommend for intense fans of archaeology. The only information sign is where the gift shops are located.

Very hot during summer but must see place to get an ideia of how Egyptians used to work stone from zero to them build their amazing temples. There are two stair floors to get there, Wooden and rock build, visit is fast and you can do it within 10-20 min.

Well worth seeing. 1200 ton obelisk that the egyptians were going to move down to luxor. Solid granite. We would have trouble today moving such a huge load for one hundred miles

Easy to find. Come with a tour guide bc they have fun facts. Admission was 200 pounds (about $6 USD). Takes about 15 min to walk through the site. There is stairs up and then down. This site is not wheelchair accessible. Lots of different granite can be found here. There is a souk at the end with lots of trinkets to buy (same trinkets as everywhere else in the city). Cool to see this in person. Great value. Fun facts: The unfinished obelisk is made of granite that was not sturdy and cracked in many places, and therefore it could never be moved. If finished it would have been the tallest (137ft) obelisk ever created. The bottom side is still attached to the bedrock they were carving it from. Obelisks were carved from granite quarries, moved, and then inscribed with hieroglyphics and cartouches. Enjoy!

This site is so unique It shows the site form where the ancient Egyptians cut all their granite blocks for d different uses . You will see the I unfinished obelisk which if it was done complete it would have been the largest that was ever cut by the ancients

I loved this place. Visiting here answered so many questions about how the granite was quarried and moved. I found it very interesting and enjoyed walking down along side the obelisk. For $1 the guard will let you,

Interesting quarry, which is the oldest in Egypt and where the pink granite was from in the past. The unfinished obelisk is a marvel due to its size and is a shame that it was not used/ finished.

The museum was more extensive than i expected. It was very easy to go in..maybe because we went around 3 pm…I am not sure. But, there was absolutely no line. The cost for the ticket was 140 pounds (for foreigner). I did see some people with guides but nobody approached us and so, we did the tour by ourselves.

An enjoyable museum with different kinds of features, other than your usual artifacts you can fin small maps of old buildings dated to different eras in history, and a diorama showing the nubian life. I also liked the huge pharaoh statue in the middle of the museum. Recommended for sure.

Nice museum with comprehensive Nubian history. The place is air-conditioned and I advice you to visit other external locations first and then visit the museum so you can take a breather. The exhibits are from 5000 BC up to the recent history (early Coptic christians and Muslim civilization). All in all a place worthy to visit when in Aswan.

It is a good trip To understand the Nubian era, and other dynasties. Specially if you want to miss the hot morning sun but not give up on your time. Ramadan timing closes by 4pm. A suggestion, to include few benches in between each section of the museum would be helpful for the visitors. Poor lighting inside the museum. Visitors, If you can tender change at the ticketing it would be great, be warned to be tricked at the counter .

Visited Dec 2023 - ticket prices were 300 pounds per person. Really nice museum where you can learn the history of the Nubian people. This museum is within walking distance from the Basma hotel. Once you enter, you go through a small metal detector and put your bags through an x-ray machine. Then you walk up to the doors and you walk right in and start your tour. This museum has won an award based on its curation of artifacts. The museum does a nice job of explaining the exhibits in both Arabic and English. There are mummies here and lots of history about the temples in this area. You can learn about why the Philae Temple was moved. Super interesting! You can walk through the entire museum and read all of the postings in about less than two hours. And, there is two gifts shops - one with lots of books in different languages, papyrus items and coins. Enjoy!

Great museum showcasing main periods of the local history. I particularly enjoyed the hall devoted to UNESCO Nubia Campaign - didn’t know about this important part of temples’ history. Mind blowing campaign! The first floor has a temporary exhibition but I would suggest to go straight down to the staircase to start with the main exhibition. Safety wise: they have open shelves where you can leave your bags in front of the entrance but unfortunately there was no one that watched them and the place was just totally abandoned. So it’s not safe to leave your bags.

The artifacts in the museum are interesting, but the descriptions and the history are not as helpful for English speakers as many of the museums in Egypt. It is relatively cheap to enter, so if you are trying to kill time in Aswan it is worth seeing, but I don’t recommend going out of your way to see it.

It's a wonderful museum especially if you have a knowledgeable tour guide. But on the day I went the air conditioning was out. Call ahead to make sure. I would have stayed longer but the heat was uncomfortable.

One of Aswan’s finest museum. The Nubian museum has a wonderful and very well displayed collection of Nubia’s history. It has a beautiful garden as well. Well worth a visit.

The Nubian museum is one of the best museums in Aswan, it has many beautiful Artifacts, it has a section showing Nubian’ history, family friendly, If you ever been to Aswan I highly recommend it.

Visited 18 October 2022 Ticket is 140 EGP The premier museum in Aswan. Built in 1997 it showcases Nubian culture and Civilisation. We arrived around midday and there were not many other patrons there at that time. It is only a small museum but there is plenty to see and it is well laid out beginning with the stone age and progressing to the modern era. Allow a good two or three hours to wander around and see the exhibits. One of the famous artifacts is the Dream Stela of King Tanutamun who was the last Kushite King. Once completed you can stroll in the gardens and see a replica of the Nabta Playa astronomical stone circle which is often regarded as the world first calendar.

Lovely compact museum. Good aircon. Tells the story of the Nubian people and also gives great background on the Egyptian Kingdoms. Very modern museum with a good path for the visitors and modern displays. 1 - 1.5h time needed.

We did this without a guide which was fine, each exhibit had a detailed description alongside it, more so than other places in Egypt we've visited. It was really interesting to a different aspect to the Egyptian history, the overlap with the Nubians and the intermixing of cultures with ebb and flow driven by each cultures military/economic success/failure. It also covers aspects of the time of Coptic Christianity and beginnings of the Islamic faiths in Egypt. There's currently a temporary exhibit of many of the sites that had to be relocated or were investigated when the high dam was being constructed and future flooding made that the only opportunity. There are gardens and some external exhibits to visit but it all seems a little incomplete. We wandered round for 15 mins but there's not a lot to see outside. In hindsight, I took more pictures of the text than the exhibits; I think I may have been "exhibit" numb by that point, reading was a partial relief to just gawking. The whole museum (indoors) will take less than 2 hours.

Enjoyed the museum. Learned much about the history of the nubian people who were also ancient Egyptians. Artifacts were plentiful, depicting the dynastic periods.

Interesting museum covering Nubia from prehistory to the present (although very light on the last 600 years) with lots of detailed explanations and maps. The texts are quite Egypt-centric (how much better things were in Nubia during the periods of Egyptian control). The pieces are diverse and well-labelled. It takes about 1.5 hours to visit, maybe 2 if you want to read and understand every text. The museum is uphill from the ferry to Elephantine Island but no more than a 10 minute walk.

It's a nice meseum if you are interested in Egyptian history. There's a lots of stories about Nubia but ofcourse you won't anything very intresting of 2500BC except pebbles. Ramses statue is the centre of the attraction of this meseum.

Beautiful museum! Newly developed and a decent amount of cool artifacts to check out. There’s not any people that harass you to buy stuff around this museum so that is nice as well. Everything was very clean and easily navigated.

Nice place in Aswan. If you dont have enough time, you can skip this place. But one good thing is that it opens after 6pm which is helpful for tourist who want to cover rest of the things during day time.

This island is certainly overhyped. With the exception of some coastal views, the island is dirty with rubbish everywhere. Most of the buildings are badly maintained, and very disorganised layout. I had difficulty finding a route to Movenpick even though I could see the building about 100m away. Definitely not an island to strolls around. Really nothing much to see or experience.

Firstly, there was a lot of rubbish lying about which was sad to see. The island and the people were beautiful, lovely, kind and helpful, a refreshing change from the fast pace of the mainland. We stayed here for a day and loved the beauty of the place, would definitely come again. We didn't eat out because it was a bit expensive but we got some good bread and snacks from a local shop.

In my opinion it’s the best island in aswan . It’s still original and much much cheaper than the west side

Firstly, it is my village that I have lived in all my life and I thank God because I sit in it and we are all Nubians and we love each other and live a simple life together, and I love my village very much We also have the Elephantin Museum, the pyramids, and a very beautiful calm atmosphere. You can stay in it in harmony and calm and take a wonderful vacation with it.

Visited Airkela Nubian House and they assisted me in arranging a private boat trip to the botanical garden and the Nubian village for 600 EGP. The garden was impressively clean and well-organized, boasting breathtaking scenery and diverse plants. My kids loved it, especially the chance to hold and snap a photo with baby alligators. Overall, it was a delightful trip, highly recommended for anyone in Aswan. However, be cautious at the garden's exit cafeteria; prices were very high and not transparent.

The botanical garden is beautiful and worth seeing! But Be careful of the cafe if your a tourist because they tried to charge us 180 egp for two teas, we have been in egypt for 3 weeks already and never been charged more than 20 egp for one tea at the nicest places.

My always favorite place to go whenever I visit Aswan. Full of unique and one of kind trees/palm trees Would recommend visiting during winter season, I find peace and quite there. By the end of exploring the beauty of greens, there’s a cafe to refresh yourself and just before it an aisle full of handmade accessories and souvenirs

Beautiful relaxing time on Kitchener Island away from the hustle and bustle. Old and large variety of trees to wander under and keep cool in the 40+ degree days! Only downside is other people having no respect for the gardens, graffitiing trees and littering everywhere. Felucca ride to the island by the lovely Mostafa (staff from Kana Kato) was a great informative ride.

Peaceful place/island to enjoy the beauty of nature and exotic plants. it has a small museum at the entrance where you can see the seeds and fruits of the plants there and read about them. but when you visit it make sure you go through the place in a zig zag path to view the periphery of the island and enjoy a spectacular view of the nile mixed with flowers and trees.

If there is only one place i can visit in aswan, it would be this botincal garden, super amazing and impressive, you better read about it while being there, also do the souvenirs shopping there, better than any other touristic place. You can get there by a private ferry, its better if you visit as a group, the ferry can wait for you and drive you back. best is to do this together with the elphantine island tour to be closer.

I don't really like plants. But if you do this place is good. It's very clean, and pretty. If you're not into gardens probably don't go. 70egp aka 2.50usd for ticket. Some annoying sellers and wanna be tour guides inside , I don't like that. But it's life here. Just say no thank you a few times.

These are also known as the Kitchener's Island Gardens established by Lord Horatio Kitchener in the 19th century and has a reasonable, if not particularly stunning, collection of exotic plants and trees from all over the world. The best part is getting to and from via the pleasant sail boats on the Nile.

I have been in many far more spectacular botanical garden than this one. The museum is modest and the plants although varied are missing the wow factor. There are beautiful views on the river and going to the garden by boat is very pleasant. You can buy some souvenirs in the garden as well.

Scam and another place after hightdam where they segregate propel with the color skin or religion. If you are white or no Arabic you have to buy two tickets - 70egp. Place it's nice for one hour

A pretty cool garden to check out but I would not recommend going currently. The salesmen there are the worst I have ever dealt with so far in Egypt. I couldn’t even walk without being constantly harassed by someone trying to sell me things..ruining the experience.

Beautiful and tranquil island away from the dust and noise of the city. We spent a good hour and a half wandering back and forth along the paths and enjoying the view from one of the many seats. A lot of the trees have their scientific and colloquial names on a clear plaque. Entrance tickets were 35LE with no discount for students. There is no public ferry to the island so you have to barter with one of the folks either on Elephantine island (NW corner of the island) or from the botanical garden ferry dock on the mainland. We paid 100LE for a return trip from Elephantine island but good luck with the haggling. It's totally worth it though!

Beautiful ride by boat and beautiful island! Points that I really liked - some very unusual trees and it feels very refreshing to walk in such green place after hot dusty streets in the cities. Points that were not so good - small crocodiles are being carried around for tourists to take pics ( I feel really sorry for animals in such heat), a man who said that he worked in there offered to show the place around and was naming the different plants and giving leaves to smell, but when I googled afterwards the info that he was giving was completely wrong 😀 so seems like I was scammed for 2$ tip, not a big deal, but quite funny

Temple was the one of the best thing we visited. Beautifully set alongside the river Nile. Arriving up to the temple by boat gives you a royal feeling. Locals were paddling around as well which added to great feeling of happiness.

The Temple of Philae is on an island in the reservoir of the Aswan Dam. It was built in 690 BC to honor Isis, the Egyptian goddess of healing and magic. It was one of the last places of worship built in the classical Egyptian style.

Magical, out of this world.. it has a story that it was submerged and rescued when Egypt built its Dam over the nile ... you can still see the water line over the building after all those years. The whole city is a beauty and Philae is a must see spot...

I think this is one of the most beautiful buildings in ancient Egypt It collects many cultures beginning with the Greeks to Romans, added to the ancient Egyptian culture passing through Christian and Muslim cultures also, these give the place a unique taste The current site of the temple is smaller than the original one making some distortion The sound and light show at night is a perfect experience I usually enjoy my time every visit, hope that you enjoy too

Yet another spectacular temple in Egypt. This one is on an island in the lake between the old and new dams. As with other temples in this area, this one would have been lost under the waters when the dam was created but was dismantled into thousands of pieces and moved to an island above the water level. Get a small boat there in about 5 mins for a pleasant stroll through ancient history.

Beautiful temple worth the visit. We spent one hour looking around which felt like enough time. The boat situation is not the best, we paid 200 LE for there and back as two. The children that were driving the boat tried changing the price upon arrival to the temple. Just pay after and don’t pay more than the prices on the sign. The boat ride over is scenic.

Our second stop of the day, was Philae Temple. We needed to take a short but relaxing boat ride to the island, the temple had been moved due to flooding from the Dams construction. The original site of the temple was said to be one of the islands where Isis had found one of Osiris's body parts. Tickets cost 200 EGP per person, 100 EGP for students (I believe 6-17 year-olds), and free for 5 and under! The temple was beautifully preserved especially considering the flooding and reconstructions. The temple told the story of Isis and Osiris, of Isis gaining her wings to help find her husband. As well as the temple, the island had souvenirs, a cafe, and toilets. All toilets by the historical sights and between 5 EGP and 20 EPG charge. Kira had one of her refreshing mango lollies! Our tour guide Zach was great. He was friendly and informative, we wish him well in his studies in America! On the way back Kira was allowed to drive the boat.

This site is amazing!!!! I could have spent a day here. The boat ride (yes, it is on an island) was nice. The boats definitely are locally maintained, but they worked well. And the view they offered of the site, both on arriving and departing was excellent. The ruins are excellent and exciting. Hard to describe as they were so...well, amazing. Each structure and area was a new experience. The site is large, but also easily walkable. Bring water and sunscreen. And of course, tips for the toilet keepers. Best part was that the vendors stayed on the dock.

A masterpiece. This is so majestic and beautiful. The island and rocky shores are amazing. Best time is to go before sunsets to enjoy the colors and sunset views and take photos in this brilliant lighting condition where the temple will look legendary. It is a miracle how this temple was saved from the water behind the high dam and moved to this new location. Blessed are those who helped save this priceless and timeless masterpiece. The boar trip is amazing with really great views. The Nile is crystal clear in this area. If you have time make sure to visit the nearby Heissa Island. I arrived late just to catch the temple but that island is said to be very good.

The temple is fantastic! This is not the original place of the temple, it was moved from its original place ( it took 10 years to move it and arrange it back) as the original one is now 2 meters under the water, you can still see it if you have a guide with a boat who know where the original one is. You can still see the remaining pieces and when the nile river water level goes down in December you can actually leave the boat and stand of it as a land.

It consist of 4 rooms with different objects and mumified animals. The entrance was officially supposed to be 20,but somehow came to 40 egyptian pounds (I was told at the entering its 20). The lady explains basic things,about what object is for what. 4th room is not finished... No explanation to that one either

We visited as a family of four, not sure what to expect (we hadn't read any reviews and just popped our head in). It was a wonderful experience for us, to see this creative exhibition about Nubian life. A big thank you.

Wonderful introduction to Nubian culture in this small but fascinating family museum on Elephantine Island. The young woman who guided us clearly enjoys the job, was very informative, and open to our many questions. Highly recommend, even if you're not staying on the island (though we're happy that we did).

If you have some spare time, visit that cute museum with a very passionate owner that will tell you everything about nubian culture. Don't be in a rush because he is talkative but very passionate. Very authentic because the museum is a living house.

Very neat, comprehensive and detailed museum all about Nubian culture in southern Egypt. It was amazing to learn about the differences in culture and how the dam has changed life drastically for Nubians. Be sure to buy some woven baskets made by local Nubian women from the gift shop - they make great souvenirs!

Nice museum to get a first approach to Nubian culture. In 30-45 min, you get to know how a Nubian household works, the relationship of the Nubian people with river nile and palms, and the impact of the Aswan dam in displacing Nubians from their original dwelling. Fluent English and Spanish is spoken. Totally recommend.

We loved this museum! Do pick the longer tour you get a better explanation of the Nubian history and culture. We knew nothing about Nubian people and was so happy to be able to learn more here. Definitely recommend.

I booked Fatma as a tour-guide. She planned a tour for me with exactly the sites l had asked for. She is competent, friendly and reliable. Particularly as a female solo traveller, I‘d highly recommend her.

A very small local museum made by locals, impressive how small and informative it is i was lost on the island and found myself there, glad that i did. you will get real knowledge about the nubian life and culture.

Lovely museum. We spent an enjoyable 30 minutes here getting a personal tour and learning about the history and lifestyles of the nubian community.

Interesting place to ‘pry into’ local life. Be careful when u tried to buy something.. the sellers would charge tourists a much higher price. For example, we bought a sugarcane juice for 5 EGP, which was actually 2 EGP to locals. Juice was great! Bargain was something I’m not good at🙃

From the Old Souk all the way to the end of New Souk, it's about 2km. A vibrant and colourful souk when even locals do their shopping here. Managed to buy some strawberries and figs which are very reasonably priced at 40EGP per kg for both the fruits at the Old Souk. Aswan dates which are of higher quality is only at 300EGP per kg. Quite a number of good Egyptian restaurants nearby too. Falafel from a stall along the souk at 5EGP only each.

A place where trashy people sell trashy things. Not worth going. Trashy salespeople and locals are constantly calling out to you in an offensive manner. (Only go if you want to feel uncomfortable!)

Prices are decent and you can find aswan and nubian themed souvenirs , luxor souq is much cheaper and better quality tho, city is very beautiful. This snack is tasty and sugary i recommend it🇪🇬

A very excellent place and has everything at reasonable prices

Fairly clean and well kept market with a good mix of touristy shops and local shops like butchers, bakers, spice shops and pharmacies. People hassle you less that advertised. Quiet at 9am and 25% open. Mostly open and busier at 11am. Worth a visit and easily accessible from ships.

It was my first time going their and I really enjoyed walking their watching those amazing traditional products here and their. The traditional market is a place I'll recommend for anyone going to Aswan. I didn't have time to go visit somewhere else so I went their a couple of times, and I really recommend going their at night it will be better than going in the morning. You can find a lot of Traditional products jus as Khan Elkhalili market at Cairo.

Tourist has to be very careful in here. It's the place you must make sure NOT to try to buy anything. Our tourist group was here earlier this year. Several members had been cheated or treated very badly by the merchant. We all felt this is the worst place we had been during our trip in Egypt.

Amazing souq with A to Z items and the best place to buy things if as a tourist your journey ends here. It's a long alley atleast 750 metres and have inner distributing alleyways. It's Much better than Khan Al khalili market in Cairo where it's expensive for most shops. You get all the stuff here ranging from Spices , Clothing, apparel, Footwear , Bags, Aromatic incense , Souvenirs,Traditional Egyptian items , Glass art , Cartouches with writings( at 250LE ), Ramadan lightings, Electronic stores ( in adjacent street) , Juice shops ( sugarcane is very popular and zoobian juice made from coconut is unique to Aswan ) , Groceries, Handwork stuff , Crockeries,pottery , Silver and Gold plated things, Sweets , confectionaries, Fruits etc. Tourists Have to bargain to very much lesser prices probably half for expensive stuff . It's crowded in the weekends and even other days during night time .It is vibrant and much utilitarian place to buy anything common.

a relocated ancient temple on a tiny island. the open view to Lake Nasser was so beautiful and so peaceful. no tourist, the staff opened the gate and turned on the lighting for us, and it was very clean. the small forecourt, the vestibule, and a large relief in the 1st room were well maintained. in contrast, the Kiosk of Qertassi was a bit ruined. the boatman took us here, offered a small bazaar on the boat, very welcomed by ladies !

Temple of Kakabshah or Mandulis is avery famous anci Nubian temple, consecrated for the Nubian diety Mandulis and built around 30 B.C. during the era of the Roman Emperor Augustus.

This is a beautiful place. One of the things which made it such a great experience is that we were the only people visiting! Make sure you walk around the whole site. There are some excellent reliefs to see. We found images of an elephant on one of the stone blocks outside. It takes a bit of effort to get to and some negotiations with the boatman , (we paid 150EGP per person, which was probably too much). Views of Lake Nasser are stunning but sad to think of all the Nubian people displaced by the creation of the Lake.

We boarded our own boat, no one else around, and had the temple and island to ourselves and the guardians, who seemed delighted someone had remembered them!
The temple was moved from destruction by the building of the high dam and subsequent flooding of the valley to form Lake Nasser, an incredible feat in itself. The temple itself is small, and decor unfinished, in nubianstyle, but still fascinating to see. Walking the granite walkway to an adjoining island is the temple of Ramses II, a very small and compact temple with reliefs which still retain their colour but are quite rudimentary in style and ere are a couple of monuments around the temple which were saved at the same time which make interesting viewing, while the sun was hot there was a refreshingly cool breeze all around the island, and no humidity which draws the energy from you.

This temple is not part of the usual tourist route, so you will be able to enjoy a relatively quiet visit without tripping over tourists and vendors alike. Built as a tribute to the Nubian Sun God Merul, also known as Mandoulis. This temple was transplanted from the original site that is 50 Kms south of Aswan. The rising waters of lake Nasser would have submerged the temple otherwise, when the Aswan High Dam was built. You will need to take a motorboat to the island. As you land, the causeway that leads to the huge gates of the temple are an impressive site indeed. There is also a well preserved Nilometer there.

Kalabsha Temple, also known as the Temple of Kalabsha, is an ancient Egyptian temple located on the western shore of Lake Nasser, near Aswan. It was originally situated at the site of Talmis in Lower Nubia but was relocated in the 1960s to its current location to save it from submersion due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Key features of Kalabsha Temple include: Dedication to Mandulis: The temple is primarily dedicated to the Nubian sun god Mandulis. Mandulis is often represented as a combination of a human and a lion. Construction Period: Kalabsha Temple was constructed during the reign of Roman Emperor Augustus (30 BCE - 14 CE) and continued under subsequent Roman emperors, including Tiberius and Nero. It represents a blend of Egyptian and Roman architectural styles. Main Structures: The main structures of the temple include a large courtyard, a hypostyle hall with columns, and a sanctuary. The temple's pylons and reliefs depict scenes of various Roman emperors making offerings to the deities. Relocation: As part of the UNESCO Nubia Campaign, Kalabsha Temple was dismantled and moved to its present location on the shores of Lake Nasser. This effort aimed to preserve important archaeological sites threatened by the rising waters caused by the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Kalabsha Temple stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts to rescue and preserve ancient monuments during a significant period of modern development in the region.

We were a group of four and tried to visit the Kalabscha temple. It was not possible to get there because at a police checkpoint they did not let us pass. They told us that we need a concession in order to let us pass through to the temple. They said we would get this concession somewhere in Assuan. It was a pity because we had already driven 25 minutes with a taxi to the checkpoint. We adapted our plans and did not visit the temple. I was quite disappointed because I did not read any of that online before, not even on the official website of the egyptian government.

Sprawling temple which is great to explore. Some statues still in great condition and there are some unique pieces here as well. Overall nice to visit.

The view from the top is not to be missed when visiting Aswan

Discovering the Dome of Abu Al Hawa, a majestic rocky mountain on the west bank of the Nile in Aswan, was a captivating journey. Standing tall at 130 meters, it harbors ancient Egyptian tombs of nobles and priests, echoing the rich history of the region. The southern peak hosts the shrine of a Muslim sheikh, Sidi Ali bin Al Hawa, creating a stunning white dome visible from afar. Nestled beneath is the remnants of a Coptic monastery dedicated to St. George. Climbing Abu Al Hawa proved challenging with closed paved paths, requiring a bit of hiking. Yet, the effort was rewarded with a mesmerizing view from the summit, making the ascent truly worthwhile. Reflecting on the experience, I hope the tourism ministry can enhance the care of Egypt's monuments, like the Dome of Abu Al Hawa. It's very awesome view but take care because it's really high

Qubbet Al- Hawa view point offers one of the highest 360 degrees panoramic view at Aswan City. You can take the Felucca (Sail Boat) to pass from the west side to the east, a nice breezy trip which would take around 10 minutes, you should agree with the sail man on the price for the round trip before embarking on the boat, don't forget to take his mobile number as well as to set a return time in order not to wait long time till he returns back to you. The area is very safe as there is a police station on that side, you can climb stone stairs all the way up to the noble graves which are engraved in the mountain thousand of years ago. There will be a part which you will have to climb through the steep sand so make sure you are wearing a comfortable shoes that would assist you to climb in this sandy conditions, around 10 minutes climbing and you would reach Qubbet Al- Hawa itself which is the main touristic attraction. Be careful while climbing down as it is very steep and one would easily fall. Conclusion: 1- No need for a tour guide unless you want someone to brief you on the history of the location. 2- The area is quite safe 3- You can climb on foot or by renting a camel that would take you all the way to the top of the mountain 4- Schedule your trip with any of the many sail boats who are available on the west side on the Nile river, you may bargain the price till you reach a fair price, make sure it is a round trip. 5- Most important thing is not to forget your camera and enjoy every second 6- Ticket kiosk is available at the bottom of the mountain and usually there is no queue

Kobet Abo Elhawa in Aswan is a breathtaking spot to enjoy panoramic views of the Nile River and the surrounding landscape. The well-manicured gardens and ample seating options make it a great place to relax and take in the beauty of the area. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, adding to the overall comfort of the experience. The staff is friendly and helpful, making it easy to navigate the grounds. Whether you're a local resident or a tourist, a visit to Kobet Abo Elhawa is a must-do. The stunning views, peaceful atmosphere, and well-kept facilities make it an ideal place to spend a few hours taking in the beauty of Aswan. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful park and making some memories to last a lifetime.

Highest point on the West Bank of Aswan, which is why it has an incredible view of the nile! You can walk up here from the tombs of the nobles, or take a camel. There’s nothing up here, but the view is definitely worth it. Especially beautiful during sunset when the Fellucas are out!

You need to pay an entrance fee of 150 egp as a foreigner to get up there. Egyptians seem to pay nothing. Pretty annoying if you just want to get up and enjoy the view

Weather was a bit hot up there, but the view was totally worth it, its considered to be the tombs of elites in the pharaonic age.

A must see island

I feel odd reviewing a church but it is a tourist attraction that you must visit. The ceiling of the second floor cathedral is so unique with bright colors and gold additions that it’s enough to bring a tear to your eye. Something to note however, once we arrived, it was just the two of us there and a kind man opened the church for us accompanied by a woman. She introduced herself as the church volunteer and gave us a “tour”. She provided us with a good deal of information about the church as well as the Coptic community in Aswan and Egypt. At the end, we offered to tip her, she declined. She then led us to the gift shop downstairs as went through every trinket in the shop and why we should purchase it. I didn’t think much of it at the time. We just weren’t in the market for souvenirs as we are light packers and not terribly religious ourselves so we politely declined. She seemed a bit annoyed but we said thank you, we tipped the man who opened the doors to the church for us and left. Her annoyance was later explained by our tour guide the next day. She introduces herself as a “volunteer” of the church however a better more fitting title is the shop owner of the gift shop. Definitely visit this stunning church! It’s magnificent but don’t feel terrible if you don’t buy anything from the gift shop from the very persistent shop guide.

Very friendly people inside the Coptic Orthodox Cathedral of the Archangel Michael in Aswan. i was taken into a tour to get to know the inside of the church better and have a brief explanation of the Coptic church and its main differences with other churches.

The divinely beautiful Coptic Cathedral of Aswan! Incredibly majestic on the outside and somehow mystical on the inside. For the first time I enter a Coptic church and I was amazed by the interior, which is slightly unexpected and quite different from our Orthodox churches. The people inside were very friendly and there was almost no one who did not greet me. Warm and wonderful people - both the local worshipers and the management of the church. Archangel Michael Cathedral is one of the places that impressed me the most in the already pleasant city of Aswan.

Beautiful and a happy cathedral, worth a visit! A free tour is possible (for a small donation to the church). Look at the symbolic meaning behind the design and art of the cathedral.

Beautiful place, an excellent gift shop with low prices outside.

Interesting place to ‘pry into’ local life. Be careful when u tried to buy something.. the sellers would charge tourists a much higher price. For example, we bought a sugarcane juice for 5 EGP, which was actually 2 EGP to locals. Juice was great! Bargain was something I’m not good at🙃

From the Old Souk all the way to the end of New Souk, it's about 2km. A vibrant and colourful souk when even locals do their shopping here. Managed to buy some strawberries and figs which are very reasonably priced at 40EGP per kg for both the fruits at the Old Souk. Aswan dates which are of higher quality is only at 300EGP per kg. Quite a number of good Egyptian restaurants nearby too. Falafel from a stall along the souk at 5EGP only each.

Beautiful souks with lots of little shops selling everything you can imagine..herbs and spices, fruits, clothing and souvenirs!

A place where trashy people sell trashy things. Not worth going. Trashy salespeople and locals are constantly calling out to you in an offensive manner. (Only go if you want to feel uncomfortable!)

Prices are decent and you can find aswan and nubian themed souvenirs , luxor souq is much cheaper and better quality tho, city is very beautiful. This snack is tasty and sugary i recommend it🇪🇬

A very excellent place and has everything at reasonable prices

Fairly clean and well kept market with a good mix of touristy shops and local shops like butchers, bakers, spice shops and pharmacies. People hassle you less that advertised. Quiet at 9am and 25% open. Mostly open and busier at 11am. Worth a visit and easily accessible from ships.

It was my first time going their and I really enjoyed walking their watching those amazing traditional products here and their. The traditional market is a place I'll recommend for anyone going to Aswan. I didn't have time to go visit somewhere else so I went their a couple of times, and I really recommend going their at night it will be better than going in the morning. You can find a lot of Traditional products jus as Khan Elkhalili market at Cairo.

Tourist has to be very careful in here. It's the place you must make sure NOT to try to buy anything. Our tourist group was here earlier this year. Several members had been cheated or treated very badly by the merchant. We all felt this is the worst place we had been during our trip in Egypt.

Amazing souq with A to Z items and the best place to buy things if as a tourist your journey ends here. It's a long alley atleast 750 metres and have inner distributing alleyways. It's Much better than Khan Al khalili market in Cairo where it's expensive for most shops. You get all the stuff here ranging from Spices , Clothing, apparel, Footwear , Bags, Aromatic incense , Souvenirs,Traditional Egyptian items , Glass art , Cartouches with writings( at 250LE ), Ramadan lightings, Electronic stores ( in adjacent street) , Juice shops ( sugarcane is very popular and zoobian juice made from coconut is unique to Aswan ) , Groceries, Handwork stuff , Crockeries,pottery , Silver and Gold plated things, Sweets , confectionaries, Fruits etc. Tourists Have to bargain to very much lesser prices probably half for expensive stuff . It's crowded in the weekends and even other days during night time .It is vibrant and much utilitarian place to buy anything common.
