Such a great place, and open on Sunday’s which was really nice as we went before heading back to Sydney. Super informative and the staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Theatre experience was especially great.

Fantastic and informative place to learn about the original Snowy Scheme. So much information and history from the original snowy scheme. You can spend hours and hours looking and reading about the snowy hydro scheme, the workers and locations that had to work in. The staff working there are super nice and helpful answering all questions. Will definitely be back as I didn’t spend enough time there the first time. Well worth the visit especially if travelling into Cooma.

A good place to get knowledge about the snowy hydro and how it works. Entry is free. You could get a couple of gifts there too. Don't miss the memorial outside on the left hand side when you exit.

Great place to learn about one of our biggest engineering marvels. They have two talks one is a 1975 video and the other is a presentation with some fly overs and a more modern video. Cafe has great coffee. And a selection of warm food like sausage roll, pie, quiche and then sandwiches and other snacks. Great cakes.

Loved visiting this place today. The staff were so helpful and were happy to run the theatre at different times to suit us. Loved the movie in the small theatre that showed the footage of the hydro and dams being built. Highly recommend.

Very educative for the Snowy Hydro system and development. Stopped here during my trip from Thredbo to Canberra. They have a nice Café and Shop Centre. Enjoy guys!

I never imagine mankind is able to do this. Amaze with the megamoth project benefiting the community with green clean energy for life! Congratulations to all especially the masterminds and designers of this remarkable contribution. I love the video presentation. It is the best way to describe the creation. To the kind gentlemen who introduced us to the video presentation, I appreciate it very much. It just gave us a deeper understanding of the 360 angle. Souvenir shop ranges from affordable to premium. Even the souvenirs came with more information of the Snowy Hydro. Good to bring back home. All the success on Snowy 2.0. I'll be back here with grandkids after Snowy 2.0 completed. Lotsa smiles and warmth from Kuala Lumpur!

I'm so glad i stopped by at Snowy Hydro Centre on my way back to Sydney. You get immersed in the history of how the Grand Snowy hydro projects came to life and the great people behind it. I was greeted by this lovely lady (she reminds me of this sweet character 'Holly Flax' from the show The Office) who gave me a mini tour and put a short movie in their Immersive theatre about the Snowy project. Overall I loved it and would highly recommend a visit if you are a Science/Engineering/History enthusiast. Free Entry.

It felt like there was a tonne of information, yet I still don't know that much? Perhaps way too much information on meaningless or minute details and nowhere near enough information on the bigger things There is a really intricate display of the tunnel boring machine, but absolutely no information about it, or what parts are what. If my fiance wasn't with me i wouldn't have know what it was. Also the TV that shows the pumps in live action probably also requires a lot more information to show visitors how to interpret the information more accurately In saying that, it's free so can't complain too much 🤷‍♀️

So interesting, amazing construction and foresight of the government of the day. Enjoyed it a lot. Free entry. On site cafe is delicious and reasonably priced. Great coffee. We even went back on our way home for another coffee.

As a civil engineering student myself learning about the Snowy Hydro was a very fascinating and educational experience. A must visit if you're passing Cooma or on a trip to the snowy mountains!

This ski resort has been upgraded (2023) after big damage from a bushfire (2019). I love this ski resort because it suitable to bring kids. New facilities are more comfortable and suit us. A lot of parking lots available, new cafe, new toilet, short distance from parking to the ski entrance. I love magic carpet that is useful for toboggan play. So convenient. Pay $25 to play toboggan and u get 1 toboggan to use here. No outside toboggan allowed I hope Selwyn Snow Resort could provide more table at outside. I could see there are a lot more space outside. It’s good to have more table. It’s really convenient

Great place for the kids with friendly staff. My kids (10 and 8) had their first snowboarding lesson today and the instructor made it fun for them. After 2 hours we had the kids up with us in the chairlift and going down one if the main runs. If you're thinking about tobogganing here maybe consider the snow tube instead which is $35 for ten rides which can be shared. I will definitely come back here again before taking the kids to a bigger mountain

Headed up for ski lessons booked in with 3 hours travel there (and 3 hours back of travel) with an overnight motel stay aswell. Tried to confirm due to lack of snow prior to our lessons via multiple avenues; contacting via website, email and social media. Instagram enquiry was viewed the day before our lesson but not replied to. No phone contact is enabled either which we could not fathom how a business could think this was a acceptable. Turned up and everything was cancelled. Upon arrival there was others leaving with kids in their cars, frustrated at also having travelled so far without communication. The staff were defensive and unhelpful. No compensation was offered besides some snacks and outlining that we can get a refund or reschedule our lesson; as if it was a form of compensation to not charge us for something we didn’t receive.

It's a very scenic area and much less crowded than the other resorts. Unfortunately their snow is less reliable at the lower altitude but it's certainly well visiting when they're open. At my age I now only do X country skiing now but had a fantastic time skiing along the road to Cabramurra after a 20cm snow fall.

Great snow resort, great and friendly and helpful staff. Good snow conditions and facilities. Very less people comparing to other snow resorts, no queues at the lifts. Very affordable price and good value. Recommended!

Unfortunately, there was very little snow on day 1 of our 3 day ski holiday. We paid a little over $1000 for lift tickets for our family of 4 in March, but spent most of the day walking up the mountain ourselves to ride down the only half decent slope there was. The only lift open was for a short little slope that took about 30 seconds from top to bottom. I know it’s not the resorts fault that there was no snow and I asked if I could get a credit for next season. The lady was perfectly polite in saying that all she could offer was to have our dates for our lift passes moved to the following week. This, of course is completely impractical as accomodation has been paid for, gear hire has already been paid for, time off work has to be arranged and kids go back to school. My advice to anyone planning a ski trip here is to never buy lift passes till they know what conditions are like.

We had a blast at Selwyn and Luke M. was amazing! I took a lesson to improve my snowboarding and Luke M. from Selwyn did a really great job teaching what I am supposed to learn. After the lesson, I felt like my skill was amped to intermediate level with just short amount of time. Luke is such a cool, knowledgeable, and approachable instructor. He answered all my questions and he even challenged me to do a jump (my first jump) which I successfully executed (didn’t fall!). I would give 5 stars for Luke M.! For the resort, I was impressed how convenient everything were. The parking is huge and centre building just easy with all stuff there (rentals, lesson, and cafe). The staff were very friendly and appreciated their response all my newbie questions (like where are the toboggan area, where to snow play, where the lessons meet up etc.) My kiddo loved the toboggan area. She likes to ride the magic carpet going up to the top for the toboggan. The resort also provide the toboggan so it is not necessary to hire. Note that there is a fee to use it but we think its worth it. The prices of the food and beverages are reasonable. Its definitely not a like a ‘theme park’ prices like the others. I just hope that this resort would get a lot of snow soon. We would definitely come back. The slope of the resort is very beginner friendly and the vibe of other skiers/snowboarders were all good. Its not so intimidating as the other resorts.

This review is for everyone who has been trying to find up to date info about the newly opened facilities. Here is the info you need: The resort is easy to get to, the parking is huge and well organised. There are a lot of disabled spots about 20m from the front door, and the rest of the car parks are between 30m and 100m from the door roughly. Near enough to grab something you left behind. The facilities are mostly L shaped. The first area you enter has all the ski and clothing hire. The lines weren't great, weren't the worst, but if you can, do yourself a favour and hire your gear in Cooma before you arrive. Cheaper and no queue. Note you don't get toboggans from this hire area. The further side of the L has good toilets which never had a queue during our visit, and had warm water for washing hands. Nice! Also gender neutral and accessible toilets. There is food and drink for sale, it's very much a canteen style place, imagine the set and offerings up at most large places like a theme park. Check out my photos for a record of the menu and prices. The food isn't great, it's pre made burgers, chips, pies, hot dogs etc. I think sandwiches are the most healthy option. Pretty expensive but also super convenient for a warm bite to eat. Eg burger was $15, hot dog $10. There's also a bar/ cafe with a coffee machine and a good range of milks. I wish they had water refill stations but I didn't see any, I did figure out you need to ask the bar/ cafe staff for a bottle of tap water (glass cafe style) if you need more water. The canteen staff won't give you a top up. There are lots of benches to eat at both inside and out though many many people left their stuff on the tables unattended all day, you might need to make room to eat. There is one bank of lockers for hire, $10 or $15 per day depending on the size. See photo. I can't speak to the ski/ snowboarding or lifts, but the tobogganing was great. It's situated past the main facilities building, over to the left looking outwards. You use your card (which you get when you enter) to scan into the area where you can collect a toboggan. They have a long travelator from the bottom of the hill up to the top so you don't have to climb it! So good. The ride down is fun too, though definately less bumpy in the morning. There's loads of spaces around the slopes you can explore to build a snowman etc. Final note, I saw there was mentions online of a taboggan fast run, and possibly also an ice skating rink etc. These things aren't there, or certainly weren't there in early July 2023. Overall, amazing time, very fun, great for kids! Fingers crossed they will update their website with all this info soon!

Great ski resort for beginner and families with kids. This review is for someone who want to discover a new place for skiing. New facilities with good food, affordable price. We really enjoy our time playing with snow and skiing here. However, someone who drive from Selwyn to Canberra should be careful with the shortest road on Google Map to Canberra. The road is underconstruction so the surface was so terrible. Try to search another way to come back to Canberra by getting to Monaro Highway. We nearly got stuck in Boboyan Road, and really heard to get out of this terrible road in dark night. We felt so scared that we might stay whole night in dark and cold. So I truly recommend people who want to go to Selwyn, please come there by Monaro Highway although this road will a bit longer than Boboyan Road.

DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING ONLINE… until you arrive and see what condition the snow is in. This will save you stress, frustration, loss of money and an argument with management that is incapable of using common sense and has zero empathy. ** My review wouldn't have been so blunt if management listened to their customers. Even the reply below from Selwyn is heartless and empty. Sorry, but not sorry enough to fix the wrong they have done. They are happy to take money from. people and keep it. If they were genuinely apologetic, a credit or refund would be offered to those who booked online in advance but didn't receive what was offered in the descriptions and images. They did not change the toboggan description. Even today it still says "150 metre snow carpet for effortless laps of fun" . That's a lie. You had to walk back up the new hill. Again, if free or discounted I wouldn't have complained and accepted the declining snow and effort made by Selwyn. But every person paid full price for a below par product. And most we complaining amungst ourselves. I could hear the poor staff copping the verbal abuse. Just wrong on all levels. I hope you are listening Blyton Group or else no one will be back next year. ** On the day you arrive check if the snow cover has deteriorated to either patches of dirt, mud, slush. Check how many Ski lifts are running. Check the Toboggan slope isn't full on dangerous holes. If you have pre-booked tickets online before you arrive, beware.The management team treat you with no respect. Simply stating their terms and conditions show “no refund”. Selwyn this is wrong. A manager is there to manage situations. Not to just read policy and walk away. Selwyn is great for beginners when it has snowed, but it is managed extremely bad when there is not enough snow. Selwyn, you should offer a refund or credit when the product you are offering doesn’t match what you have sold. Everyone, hold off booking lift tickets & toboggan tickets until you arrive on the day and see if there is enough snow to actually ski or toboggan. And to see how many lifts are actually running. There is no rush to purchase lift passes or toboggan tickets. These do not sell out. So there is no benefit to pre-booking online before you arrive. The toboggan slope was unsafe and not usable with large holes all the way down but management disagreed. When it was moved to another area which had snow cover, is was shorter and the slope was too flat to slide all the way to the end. Also, no magic carpet to take you up the hill. I have no complaints if that was free. But management still thought it was fair to charge full price of $25 to use this area. Honestly, it is was no different to taking candy from a baby. Shame on you Selwyn. Won’t be back. Next year off to Perisher for free tobogganing on a hill you can slide down without using your hands or becoming injured sliding into large holes. If you would like Selwyn's management to change, please write a review. No one can control the weather. So i do feel for Selwyn, that it hasn't snowed. But this is not an excuse to take advantage of you and me. They only might consider to do better for next year if they hear from everyone who felt ripped off and taken advantage of.

Took my boys up in the school holidays for some tobagganing. Sadly toboggan slope didn't meet our expectations. On the positive, staff were friendly, picking up passes very simple, parking well laid out, and we built a snowman and had a good snow fight. Good day overall 😊

Went in to see where we can visit around the area (outside of National Parks) as we had our dog with us. Kate was amazing! She showed and highlighted on maps, what we could do, how hard the walks might be and gave us some tips on how to get there. Made our stay around there area really enjoyable. Thank you.

The most friendly and knowledgeable ladies helped us plan our long weekend in the snowy mountains and chatted to us about what to see in Cooma. The shop has some delightful books and souvenirs.

My partner and I couldn't have asked for better and more informative information or more friendlier service from the staff at the visitor centre. One of the staff members, her name is Marilyn, is truly an asset to the centre her knowledge of the area was extremely helpful.

It's better to go here and talk to the staff before you go into snowy Mountain area k (unless you fully aware of the current conditions and equipped with all you need). Very friendly staff. They have given most upto date details about the road conditions, snowfall and what we should expect on the way. The day we went was really bad weather.. But it becomes easy as we knew what going to face before we leave Cooma. So we already prepared for it.

Cate was so pleasant and informative during our visit today! She really knows the area and is able to suggest exactly what you need to see based on your physical abilities and mode of transport. She even knows where to find wombats in the wild. Thanks heaps Cate.

A must place to stop. Parking out front for cars and caravans. Gold coin donation the tour is great, no need to book unless you are in a coach. The tour guides passion and patience is noteworthy.

We were having a long trip and decided to stay in Cooma for a day. We visited this Museum because it was recommended on TripAdvisor and we know nothing about Corrective Service before the visit. Now after the visit I feel it's one of the really non-forgettable memories of our entire trip. We arrived there around 10:00am and there were no other visitors. Someone welcomed us and offered to guide us go through the museum. We only found later on that the person was actually someone still in jail! He was doing this tour guide work because he was a 'trusted' one so he was allowed to go out and do services for a few hours during the day. Apparently, we were the first group he guided on his own. (During the whole time, a few officers passed by and checked if everything is OK) It was definitely a brilliant tour as the guy was able to show us what was displayed as well as told us a lot of his real experience. I won't share too much here as I feel people should go there and experience this themselves. In the end, we bought a few pieces of artwork in the gift shop which was done by the prisoners. The artworks looks great and the price is good as well. Highly recommended!

This is a really fun museum with so much interesting history about Australia's penitentiaries. There are plenty of creative scene's with historical artefacts to explore to keep you busy for hours.

The mural on the outside which tells a story over history was great. Inside there is alot to look at about various prisons and corrective facilities, and the exhibits are well done and informative. Gold coin donation is an excellent way to get people into the facility. I would recommend doing this if in Cooma

Took our older children, was good for us all to learn about what it is like to live in jail from the informative and experienced corrections officer. A very pleasant surprise, should be in the top three things to do in Cooma. Highly recommend.

Well worth a visit if only for a quick waltz around the museum. It's a gold coin donation BUT you could spend hours there as its all informative and the documentation is a great overview of the history.

Hi. We went to the museum on their 150 year anniversary day. Wonderful tour guy. We ended up with a bus load of visitors and we went with them into the museum. He was so informative on the history and the correctional centre. Thank you wonderful tour.

Informational exhibition of the history of the Australian prison service especially the early days. Must see the original gallows that hanged many.

Incredible museum, beautifully curated. Amazing collection of artefacts from the long history of corrective services and prisons. Highly recommended.

Cool spot to see the town of Cooma from above above. Not a lot of information but its the statue of a grazing goat. Couldn’t find any other information about the place. Some rubbish left there which is not nice. You can drive up and climb a few steps to get to the platform. Didnt have to drive off main road for more than a few minutes so it was ok.

Not much to see except roof tops and what appears to be the local sport…tossing coles and Woolies trolleys off the cliff..hardly worth the effort…

So a great lookout in Cooma township. It has great views over the town and looking across to the roof of Australia. The litter is a bit off putting so maybe the local council could install a couple of bins to promote being respectful of the environment.

A hill on the edge of cooma that lets you have some decent views of the town and surrounding areas. Nice goat statue. Not much else here

Worth the short drive out from Cooma , two lookouts east abd west ..both provide beautiful views of the lush valleys below…But the highlight was the wild life you see close to the road and in the surrounding bush ….Drive Slowly please

Great destination, only one small complaint; is it possible to remove a few trees on the South side right in front of viewing platform? As much as I like trees it blocks the brilliant view.

Great spot for a picnic and break. View at the lookout is great. Toilets super clean. Had to share a pic because as a parent it’s a relief to have a loo you can sit on…when you have small kids

Amazing 360 degree views across the Monaro and Snowy Mountains. Two lookout spots, just very short walks to both. Well worth a visit. Toilets and car park at top of hill.

Freaking awesome lookout. A great stopover for a break. Do not pass this place without going up, you can just drive up there and walk like 10metres to the lookout area. Take photos and enjoy this great land!

Great look out and some local skinks. The teahouse just below the lookout serves good apple strudel and Austrian pancakes

Worth the drive to see the show capped high country off in the distance. Not much else there if the teahouse is closed, but it is easy to get to the first lookout. Not really much to see at second lookout.

There are better lookouts in the world, but it's worth coming to if you're passing by and looking for something to do. They need to trim a lot of the trees as they block much of the view!

A beautiful gallery with gorgeous gardens outside, a heap of history in the walls and a mix of open and intimate gallery spaces to suit the art on display. A gold coin donation to enter makes it well worth the visit. Oh, and the gardens smelled delightful for our early springtime visit.

Beautiful and large country art gallery with fantastic works on show and friendly staff. Do yourself a favour and check out the exhibition running from December 2019 through to the end of January 2020 - RSPCA fundraiser on the Monaro. Many stunning pieces and proceeds to a good cause. Entry on a $2 coin donation.

Amazing park with at least 5 slides and spacious (but safe) climbing equipment- all the kids love it! And there were 2 baby swings, 3 normal swings and a 360 tire swing. Clean toilets nearby, lots of shade, well maintained park.

Great country town park. Old trees, picnic tables, great toilet facilities, fresh water dispensers, bins and recycling, grass, space, adjoining shops and parking no problem. Lovely park to eat take aways or your own picnic! Pigeons on the prowl!

The spot is popular with school bus excursions due to its large open grass space and large amount of spaced out picnic tables. Due to this the playground also receives a high amount of play and currently November 2023 is in need of major repairs on a variety of items (which look to be in the process of being fixed). Playground is semi fenced to Massie Street which it is closet too, and has a large tree line around the entire park. Awesome playground with all the different types of play equipment. It has toilets and a large grassed area with picnic tables. Nice place to sit and eat lunch. Can get very busy sometimes and there is the occasional piece of rubbish on the ground.

Centennial Park brings back memories when I go there and play at the playground in the 1960s, going to the Snowy Mountains 🏔. There is Mosaic Time ⏲️ Walk in front of the main street. Was a community project in Centennial Park. The Cooma-Monaro Time Walk to Make Bicentennial Year of 1988, designed by Cooma College of TAFE and the Cooma-Monaro Historical Society. In 1959, the park was redesigned, the International Avenue of Flags and the Music 🎶 Shell 🐚 and other improvements. Opened on the 17 th of October 1959, 10 th anniversary of establishment of the Snowy Mountains 🏔 Hydro-electric Authority. The Flags Poles represent the 27 nationalities of people working on the scheme at the Snowy Mountains 🏔. Lands is traditional of the Ngarigo people, as the area now known as Cooma. Explored by Captain J.M. Currie in 1823. First surveyed in 1840 and was gazetted in 1849, Cooma was proclaimed a municipality in 1879. The railway 🛤 was extended and came from Royalla to Cooma in 1889. A hundred years later, the line closed to passenger traffic. Population of Cooma, 6,742 in 2016 census. Location: 397km (247mi) SW of Sydney 116 km (72mi) S of Canberra 61 km (38mi ) ENE of Jindabyne 112 km (70mi) NW of Bega.

Really cool park. Shame they got rid of the basket swing and merrygo around spinny setup. The newish tower is pretty cool and great park for a picnic. Lots of nice trees that offer good shade so bring your picnic rugs people.

I've used this park many times over many years, mostly as a lunch spot. A lovely out-of-the-way park with tables & bench seats. Could do with maybe 2 more of those.

A nice playground. Aging a bit in sections but safe and fun. The surrounding park is green and shady with large mature trees and a good break on a hot day. The nearby toilets are clean and had soap.

The park was great, I took kids ranging from 5 to 12 years old. They all had fun. It had been raining, no huge puddles, only the bottoms if the slides were wet, nothing the sleeve of my hoodie couldn't fix. The public toilets were clean, which is always a bonus for families!
