Quite an unusual museum, which I loved. Bring walking shoes, so you can climb in and out of the trains and walk around their extensive grounds. Highly recommended. The volunteers do an amazing job - thank you for preserving our history. Just remember to bring cash as no eftpos.

An excellent museum experience. The range of historic. railway items on display is impressive. The volunteer team that present the museum have done a fine job with the displays. On the service front, the team is helpful and very friendly.

The volunteers have done a great job! It feels like the ticket and station masters offices were vacated yesterday. There's 2 trains from way back with carriages you can walk through as well as workshop displays and a 3x5m diorama of Tenterfield with a trainset. There's photos of the men that cut the sleepers and their monster chainsaws are in the workshop. Its well worth a visit to imagine the challenges of their way of life.

A beautiful walk through history of the Tenterfield Rail Museum. The volunteers have done a beautiful job in renovating the old engines and rolling stock and equipment. The station platform is a credit to people who are very proud of the work they do.

Such a beautiful piece of history we have the pleasure of visiting so close to home. Clean & tidy with plenty to see & do.

They have been lovingly restoring all this past history and its amazing to see and also be able to intetact by touching and playing with controls etc. A must see and only about $7.00 per person but bring cash they didnt have eftpos and the same if you want to buy something in the gift shop.

Lots to see and you can get into most of the carriages and locos. The historical walk is definitely worth doing Lots of history and interesting books and manuals inside the station. Was a market also happening on the day we went. You're welcome to take your dog into the museum.

Very friendly assistant Lovely shop and really well kept museum with plenty of very interesting exhibits, railway carriages pictures, documents etc. A great legacy to the disused railway line.

It is absolutely worth the entrance fee and the time it takes to explore the property. They can use the support to keep doing the fantastic job the volunteers do.

Great way to spend a couple of hours. So much to see and enjoy. My husband loved looking at all the old machinery and engines. Hats off to everyone who works so hard to preserve this important part of Australia's history. Make sure you go back at night to take photos of this beautiful building under spotlight.

The Tenterfield Railway Museum really takes you back to a time when our railways were vital to NSW. Mail, livestock, machinery, and passengers were transported short and long distances. The old steam trains and the various types of carriages are on display and you can board them and, if you're like me, wish that they were still in operations. You can even sit in the driver's seat of one of the trains. Thanks to the many volunteers who have worked so hard to create this wonderful museum.

What a unexpected relaxed stop. Friendly volunteers, some great History an memorabilia from railway I've been to a few railway stations and museums and this one had plenty of stuff had not seen before in a beautiful building. Pity to see such iconic railways not operating anymore. This is the next best thing.

What a great step back in time. For a very reasonable fee, you can spend a couple of hours seeing railway as it was. Getting a better understanding of the environment of rail and the complexity of running it. They have quite a few train carriages that have been restored. It is certainly one of the better step back in times in Australia.

My expectations were blown away by this granite rock and its surroundings , great walking tracks , well posted for guides kn where to go .. highly recommend this on anybody journey and will be back to do some camping and stay longer than a few hrs .....

Good walks Bike track at mt Lindsey hi way end is a good ride , goes along air port track to little bald rock and back to camp site . We did it on hard tails and took 4 hours Plenty of wood to use on bar be q

It's a splendid walk from the parking area to the top of Bald Rock. The parks staff have done a great job tidying up after the bushfires. Nature is taking its course and vegetation is greening up everything. We did the long track to the top not the short, steep climb. Lots of wildflowers out.

What an awe-inspiring little hike; I totally loved this! You can be bold and brave and head straight up the rock face or you can take the gentle route to the Summit via the Bungoona track. Either way the views are simply stunning. About 3km in total. Truly, it's nature at her best. Easily accessible via the New England Highway and ample parking with toilets and picnic facilities.

Limited number of camp sites makes it nice and quiet. Tons of shade. Walking trails very close and the actual climb is achievable by people with even below average mobility and fitness. Picnic tables on every site and several water taps.

An amazing view, a good work out climbing to the top via the face. It is up there with amazement thats for sure. Very big like Uluru.

An incredible sight, well worth the visit. The drive alone is fun (Mount Lindesay Road is epic across its entire considerable length) but even if it wasn't, this is a must see destination and walk up to the summit.

Love this place. Been to this walking trail once a year and this is the fourth time. Straight up to the top and enjoy the spectacular view then relaxing walk down to the parking area.

The hike is so worth it, and the memories I have of this place take me back to much simpler days. I hope in the future they don't remove access to hikes for the public as I would go bezerk. Thanks for all the awesome memories ya big granite rock.

Up there with the best views in Australia, we had the entire mountain to ourselves on a weekday afternoon and watched the sun set from the summit. 45° incline to get to the top, but no more than 3km return from car to summit. Very worth the steep walk.

Love this rock. It's huge! Fun to climb and explore. Surrounded by attractive bushland dotted with granite boulders and views to distant mountains. Quiet camping area and lots of tracks to walk or ride bikes. Lots of wildlife. Good access to rock for all levels of fitness. Take care on road to avoid hitting wallabies and roos as they're everywhere.

Bald Rock is amazing for the fact it starts about 300m from the carpark. The slab to walk up while steep is extremely grippy, though I would not recommend doing this in the wet. This is achievable for people of most fitness levels, I've seen many families with small kids go up, but you just have to take your time, even if it's take 10 steps and have a break. I would not recommend this to unfit elderly, or those with poor moment as it is sightly uneven terrain. Once you've climbed the slab it's maybe 1km of walking a relatively flat path to the Cairn making your final destination. I love this one is so quick and easy, great to take you non-hiking friends.

Amazing spot, short hike with huge payoff views, we drove all the way from the Gold Coast, and it was a spectacular end destination. A beautiful national park, big trees and plenty of wild life. The hikes themselves are short and steep but because the landscape is so flat around the park you can see for miles all around.

I really like the song Sadly Tenterfield Saddler was closed , when I visited Hopefully my next visit to Tenterfield

Went here a few days ago and had a look around when we were there one of the ladies told us all the interesting history associated with the saddler. Most known from the Peter Allan song Tenterfield Saddler. The song was written about his saddler grandfather George Woolnought who owned the saddlery from 1908-1960. The song highlights the central role played by the traditional tradesman and his place of work in the life of Tenterfield in that time. Originally the building was constructed as a residence in 1860 by Sir Stuart Alexander Donaldson from Tenterfield station. I then become a saddlery in 1870 by saddler C H Pavel. In 1874 it was sold to the Australian Joint Stock Bank until it reverted back to a private home 1895-1887. The next saddler to own the property was Dan Edgar he had a client who turned out to be the famous poet and author Banjo Patterson. Banjo Patterson married Miss Alice Walker from Tenterfield station in 1903. In 1972 the cultural architectural and social significance of the Tenterfield Saddlery was recognised by the National Trust Australia. Today the building is a retail outlet for leather goods and as a tourist attraction for the town.

drove from ipswich to specifically look at the tenterfield saddler museum to find it CLOSED at 12 pm when opening hours are 9 am to 1 pm // the new owners should take heed of these ADVERTISED opening hours as we were not the only ones lined up to visit this museum // might be staffed only by volunteers - but what is the use of even visiting the museum if it is not open during the advertised opening hours // WILL NOT BE BACK - AS IT IS A BIG RIPOFF //

Amazing volunteers were so very helpful. The gentleman went the extra mile to deliver brochures to the caravan park.

Very grateful to Bruce for sharing his vast knowledge of not only Tenterfield but also other local towns. Thanks to him, we have seen and enjoyed many more places of interest than we would have otherwise. Bruce is a million times more helpful than Google could ever be.

Am sure the people at the centre do a great job however our sole purpose for overnighting in Tenterfield was to visit the Saddlery. We arrived on advertised hours and unfortunately it was closed. Feel perhaps if this happens, maybe someone from the Centre could open. After all, majority of people visiting from afar, do so because of the Saddlery history, thanks to Peter Allen.

We went there this morning and the gentleman that helped us (sorry forgot his name) was fantastic. His knowledge was incredible and he was so friendly. Please Tenterfield council don't go the way of other councils and close this great facility, travellers rely on them to get the best out of your area

A great place to visit and to a special person Bruce who shared with me a wealth of steam train photos on a usb he gave me many thanks and i highly recommend a visit to this place and town.

As caravaners with just three days to spend in Tenterfield, I thought to ask the experts. And I sure did! We travel with our dog which excludes so many things. The lovely lady (forgive me for not remembering your name) was so helpful. She went out of her way to think of spots we can visit. I had done the usual search engine looks with some conflicting answers. It was great to have places we can confidently go. Tenterfield is an iconic place to visit in Australia. Why oh why is the Visitors Centre closing????? I do not understand! People like us who arrive next month will not have access to this service Surely the wonderful volunteers could be accommodated in a small shopfront. Minimal cost……big financial input from informed travellers. JR

Very informative. Friendly staff. When we asked what is there to to in Tenterfield? The lady said "lots of things to do here"! She pulled out a map..gave us a guide and off we went!! 1st stop museum..very informative. Coffee shop ..lovely little hub. Lots of people, friendly people. Recommended visit.

Lady was soooooo helpful re local services and advice about scenic drive I wanted to take.

Very informative, helpful staff. Worth the cheap entry fee to see and feel the history of our country. Good displays and artifacts. Clean, modern facilities with a cafe attached that we did not try but it looked nice.

Barbara who works there gave us really interesting insights into the building, the museum and some local history. She was quite knowledgeable and patient and warm, which we really appreciated. The hall where we were supposed to hear Sit Parkes’ speech didn’t work well - the speech was playing intermittently, you hear two sentences then there is silence of a few minutes then another sentence or two.

Great show. Really welcoming good venue. Really good venue, friendly staff and facilities. Livvy and Pete were great. Well done to the duo. Band were great. Lighting and audio great.

Got to learn about one of the early political greTs. Lots of information and good to see. Can breeze though it but if you can save some time as lots to read and see

For anyone interested in Australian history and our federation this is a must see. Very informative and a credit to the staff and volunteers that keep this important part of our Australian heritage alive! I even managed to see a current release movie in the Theatre.

Overcharged by $8 but when questioned they were happy to refund, really nice dining in or outside courtyard, meals were excellent, coffee great, interesting info on Oz prime ministers

A small, concise (3 room) museum about Parkes and Federation. We'll worth a quick trip. There's also a cabinet on 'Breaker' Morant (with not much context) and we were guided around the on site cinema which seemed to have not much to do with anything.

Great big old Cork Tree. I've never seen anything like it. I didn't realize it was in a residential area. It must annoy the residents but visit it anyway.

Wow! This is a big call tree and the funny thing about it. It’s in Wood Street, if you want to take a look at it tune into Oz RV travels on YouTube and watch the campsites around Tenterfield.

An amazing tree with an incredible history. It's fenced off as it's on private property, but it's right on the boundary so you can get close and touch it. Legend is that if you walk around it three times and make a wish, your wish will be granted - Here's hoping it will grant our wish despite not being able to walk around it. This tree and so very many more are certainly worth the visit to Tenterfield, especially around Anzac Day as many of the trees are in beautiful Autumn colours.

A very old and gnarly cork tree, with bark layer variations that are many inches deep. It is difficult to capture the scale of the tree, and the depth of the gnarls in flat photos, so, if quirky botany is up your alley, and you're in Tenterfield, you might as well check it out. Very easily accessible from quiet residential streets.

Amazing. My photos show the Tenterfield cork tree (the largest) and another outside the Glen Innes historical railway station (that one you can walk around and make a wish).

It’s easy to love a massive tree whose canopy extends across the entire street AND has historical significance AND is a unique cork tree! It’s on private land but you park on the street and marvel under its shade at the sweater like cork bark of the tree. There’s a few friendly farm animals to feed if you bring carrots or some grass :)

This tree is incredible! It's huge and it's limbs spread out a long way. It was planted in 1861 by Edward Parker who bought it out from England and is thought to be Australia's largest cork tree (that's what the sign says). It's in a quiet street so there's no trouble parking. I am very glad I went as it's a beautiful, big, old tree. I hope it keeps going for another 160 years!

Wow, the size of that tree is impressive. Besides, I love cork and always wanted to see and feel a tree. If you like cork and nature, take the little detour when you go through town.

A perfect place for families through to experienced hikers. Plenty of tracks for everyone. As a family we did a few of the smaller ones. A very short walk out to the top of the falls and the same distance to the rock pools! Both definitely worth the look! Plenty of shade and tables around to sit. A few long drop toilets placed around, but not well maintained. Also remember being a NSW park you will need to pay to enter so having cash with you is helpful or you can use an app!

Am amazingly beautiful part of the world and only a short drive from Tenterfield. Also great camping and swimming holes. The dirt track is easy going and approx 14 kilometers (8 mi).

So good… but I want to say it is so bad as I want to keep it quiet and all to myself!

Only 27km from Tenterfield, Boonoo Boonoo National Park has a stunning waterfall, secluded swimming holes, hiking tracks, camping areas, accommodation and picnic spots. After Banjo Patterson proposed to his sweetheart, Alice Walker, at Boonoo Boonoo Falls lookout, there was movement at Tenterfield cattle station. Word had passed around that the station owner’s daughter had got away. Presumably she loved the guy, but it’s possible that his charming choice of setting in which to pop the question might have helped sway her answer. Alice didn’t have a chance and she and Banjo married in 1903. Today, Boonoo Boonoo (pronounced bunna-bunoo) is still the ultimate romantic setting, especially after a good rainfall. From the lookout is an uninterrupted view of the Boonoo Boonoo River cascading over the granite cliff edge to become a spectacular waterfall that plunges 210m into the gorge below. Nearby, you’ll find walking tracks and shady places to picnic. Secluded rock pools along the river, lined by wildflower-filled bushland, are the perfect way to cool off on a hot day.

Well worth the drive in from Tenterfield, picnic area and toilets are well maintained. Spectacular views down through the gorge and waterfalls cascading down the side. There is a large pool at the top that you can swim in tho we did not as it was cold a a little discoloured from all the recent rains and bushfires in the area. Still well worth it for a drive and a sausage on the BBQ.

Great place to visit if you're around Tenterfield. Easy walk and spectacular scenery. Good facilities for a stopover, rest or picnic.

One of the most beautiful places in the area. Gorgeous falls, rock pools and aboriginal sites. As well as some good 4wd areas.

Great little spot to explore with the family. Quick easy walk (approx 100m) off the road. No dedicated carpark, just pull up on the side of the road and follow the trail from the info sign.

What a foray into the life of a bushranger. It was & still is a perfect hideout/vantage point as it has overhangs of huge granite borders, caves & crevices. With the crystal clear water running under & over the borders, through the sand makes it the sweetest freshest water to drink. Fascinating how the water appears to end but it comes out the other side of a boulder through tiny cascades. It must have boulders underneath where the water seeps through to allow it to come out the other side. Very interesting life of 'Thunderbolt', huge sign erected to detail his life. So happy I stopped & made the effort to take the 150m walk up to the caves👌 😍🤩😍👌

Very Underwhelming. No real signage once you get off the road onto the path. So you are guessing really where it is. There is a steel plate where it may have once said something.

A short walk up amongst the rocks to Thunderbolts hideout. Not a good walk for mobility impaired, slippery surfaces. Beautiful spot.

A very beautiful and scenic spot. A small hike is required to find both caves, the first on the trail is a smaller spot between 3 large rocks and the 2nd is a cut out beneath a large boulder. A bit of a walk past/behind both caves and the odd climb up a few rocks can lead to the top of the rocky outcrop to reveal very scenic views through the tops of the trees. Not a great place to visit for very small children or people with mobility issues. The trail leading in can be found between a square information sign and a brown directional sign. A boulder sits next to the trail entrance.

I am just a curious person interested in the story so we thought we would have a look as it's a short walk on the bush about 200 metres

Capt Thunderbolt, what a wonderful bushranger. Yet another hideout. Easy walk from the road about 150 metres. Small parking spot at sign. Sign comes up on you quickly. You can explore the caves and area. Easy log to cross to get there.

Loved exploring this space...can absolutely see why Thunderbolt chose this spot! So clear why it was the perfect hideout for many reasons!.

A piece of Australian history, interesting but in need of some upkeep - bit over grown

5 stars for the signage, info and the thought provoking conversations it created with our group. It is hard to imagine that the top end of Australia could be let go

Another quick easy stop on the way to Bald Rock. Not really a lot to see but the historical story on the signs is interesting.

This is a home run business by locals so the people are very authentic. Don’t expect tourist based service. Take cash. ( cash only) They have very helpful staff, offered samples of fruit and the ice cream was great The gardens were well kept and are obviously loved. And a bit quirky Planted looked great. I went twice when I was up there. My only disappointment was …. They were out of cherries. But the home made cherry ice made up for it.

Their garden is absolutely stunning. I can only imagine how much work was put into the nursery and garden. Lovely old couple running the place. They have cherry pie and apricot pie and ice cream and hot beverage. Depending on the season they also have fruits for sale - right now it’s yellow nectarines, plums, and peaches. Really tasty stuff.

Called into Cherrydale Orchard on the New England Highway 10 klm south of Tenterfield what a beautiful place to have a look around the beautiful gardens the flowers are spectacular there is a nursery to purchase plants we brought some peaches and nectarines and of course they were amazing well worth the time to stop and have a stretch and a look around they also have coffee

Called in on our travel to Tenterfield. The lady owner was friendly and helpful. The male owner was very grumpy and rude. When I asked whether I could look at the cherry trees, as I have never seen one before. The lady owner was very kind and said "Go ahead and you might pick some cherries too." The male owner called out "They're not to wander around my orchard!" I just walked away. I wasn't even intending to wander around their orchard anywhere, just wanted to look at a real cherry tree with of cherries. We won't be coming back!

We travelled from Hervey Bay to Tenterfield to buy Cherries fresh from the orchard, for Christmas. We had rang the owner a couple of times prior to the trip to make sure he had cherries for us to buy. We spent a lot of money on the fruit grown here for an upsetting result. Three boxes of cherries are fine and we bought a box of Nectarines sold as seconds and they are ripe and juicy. The Apricots on display were excellent. We were given one to try. We bought a box of first quality Apricots , they were $7kg loose, but the lady didn't give us the ones on display but went away and came back with a closed box of Apricots, in a Cherry box. We paid $165 cash but didn't receive an itemised account or a receipt/tax invoice for the cash paid for the fruit. When we took the fruit out of the refrigerator , the next day, and inspected it we found that we had been charged $20 for a box of seconds Apricots that have many squashed and are all pock marked. We didn't get 2 kg and we had to throw out some as they were too damaged. We had told the lady that the fruit was for us and friends given the distance we drove to get the cherries. She knew that we were not local and not going to be able to come back as they were closing for the day, so took advantage of us. Beware and check what you buy before you leave.

I discovered Jubilee Park , whilst exploring Tenterfield Tenterfield Park , is a good size , family oriented , green space extended walk Apart from the beautiful nature , within Jubilee Park .. there is also over a few different things to do & experience , within this impressive spacious park * Children Playground * Memorial Gazebo * BBQ Facilities * Exercise Equipment Another activity within Jubilee Park .. is the Tenterfield Willow Walkers - which is a community walkers group If needed .. there’s a public toilet

Great park. Bike path that runs along the creek. Some good bird spotting. Plenty of shade. Upgraded skate and bike park.

I have a strong affinity for my regular visits to the potting shed. The staff there are exceptionally skilled and consistently provide an exceptional coffee experience, accompanied by a welcoming and friendly demeanor. The quality of the coffee is consistently high, making it a highly recommended establishment. The culinary offerings are characterized by freshness and exquisite taste, with generous portion sizes. Julie's homemade chutney, in particular, stands out as a must-try. For those with a sweet tooth, the brownies are highly recommended, although they tend to sell out quickly due to their popularity.

This place is a gem! Awesome space and very friendly staff.. the wagyu and lamb pies are amazing 🤤 the pastry they use is spot on. And great coffee, they use Milklab almond milk which is not always easy to find in cafe's.. can't wait to come back!

Hubby and I got coffee and a slice here this morning, it was absolutely amazing! Best coffee I've had in a long time. Such friendly staff and everyone was so kind to our doggies giving them pats. They even have a dog menu. This place is the cutest!

Popped in on the way home to the Mid North Coast. Service was quick and easy, their pies are very good, so was their Coffee and Hot Chocolate. Happy to stop here again.

I had an amazing breakfast there, coffee tasted really nice. I had eggs and bacon on toasts and it was delicious. Staff is so friendly and cool. Place very comfy and well decorated. I recommend this place 👍🏼

Very cute place with lots of plants and antics on display. Coffee was better than many in a long time. The juju’s smashed avocado was great and it was split as we were sharing without having to ask!

We had two coffees each and a big breakfast wrap this morning. There’s not much in the way of a food menu, just what’s pre-made in the cabinet but it hit the spot. The coffee was awesome and the service was great. Good outdoor seating options if you have dogs.

Such a gem, so glad to have randomly chosen this place for a bite and a coffee. Great food and service with an eclectic collection of items for sale which create a lovely atmosphere!

Excellent food and excellent service. I've learnt they swap themes every quarter and right now it's Mexican theme. The Potty Shed menu has been transformed and the food was stunning . Highlight was streak tartare and the ceviche. Chargrilled corn and salad was pretty good also. The beef brisket stuffed in a fried pastry was interesting too. The staff were wonderful and helpful. The highlight was the dessert, which was in itself a work of art and so pretty. It was also delicious and I love the attention and detail that went into putting the whole thing together. I love the cactus spikes on the cactus! The live, chill music played by a solo guitarist in the background was just icing on the cake. What a wonderful dining experience.
