Wonderful architecture in Europe! It is Budapest's most recognizable building. From every angle, it appeared magnificent. Stunning location with trees, gardens, and of course historical landmarks. The architecture is huge and quite detailed. Stunning view of the entire building. Although I was unable to enter, I was able to appreciate it from the outside.

This is one of the largest parliament buildings in the world as the Hungarians saw Westminster and wanted to make their own version but slightly larger and I believe it is actually bigger than Westminster by about 20 feet. I recommend seeing it at night though from a boat ride when it's lit up. It's really beautiful.

This is a very impressive building, outside and inside. I was really looking forward to visiting it. However, only a few sections are open to the public, and that was disappointing considering how big this place is. You are not allowed to take pictures of where the crown is, but the room is astonishing. Guides are very nice and knowledgeable. If you have a European passport, the entrance is about £12. If you don't, I think it's twice as that.

Building is beautiful no matter which angle you see. The best time to visit is in the morning and late evening especially from the boat. You can also visit it from inside but only with the tour which lasts about 45minutes. Tour is organized in different language but needs to booked in advance if for English.

Omg. One if the gorgeous buildings that I have ever seen before. This building is so perfect inside and out and during daytime and nighttime. You need to make a reservation to go inside and the normal price for an adult is 6400 ft but its worth it. You should definitely visit this place when you come to Budapest.

Stunning building, especially pretty at night when it lights up. I took a boat tour along the river and would reccomend it to see the sights along the riverside. Didn’t go inside but the outside is a stop that’s totally worth it in Budapest. Seagulls flying on top at night look like beautiful twinkling lights, magical!!

Very beautiful and magnificent structure. We booked a English guided tour of the Hungarian Parliament Building which lasted for about an hour and half. The tour was amazing and you get to know some interesting facts about the parliament building and Hungary history. This is really a must to go destination for Budapest. Here are a few tips to know before you plan your trip for the Hungarian Parliament - Try to book the tickets online from their official website well in advance (2-3 weeks in advance) since the tickets get sold out very quickly. For e tickets, you need to exchange your e tickets with the physical tickets. Chances of getting a ticket on the spot from the ticket counter is very difficult. However, if you want to try, reach the ticket counter around 8 am in the morning (it's opening time) and you might get a few tickets for the day. The ticket counter does not sell advance tickets. They only sell tickets available for that day only. Use online booking as much as possible and plan weeks in advance. This will be a audio guided tour where in you receive a radio and a headphone. The tour is available in multiple European languages including English. Please Note - You can buy the tickets with any language available for a time slot, once you enter inside, once you get the audio guided machine, you have the option to select the language of your choice. Thus contradicting the entire idea of slots based on languages. Last but not the least, the tour is amazing.

One of the most amazing and gorgeous buildings I have been so far in Europe. Not just the parliament building, everything near by is making it better. River, beautifully lighted bridges and trams. It’s definitely an experience when you visit during Xmas. Must see for tourists!

One of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever seen. It is the third biggest Parliament house in the world and one of the most beautiful parliaments according to me. Once you go inside there are some guided tours (approximately 45 minutes) that can provide you with useful information about the parliament and history. They are offered in many languages including English, German, Spanish, Italian, etc. It's good value for money at around 10 Euro. Certainly it looks much better from outside it's massive and very photogenic. The area around it is very well designed & landscaped. It’s very symmetrical and gigantic. You can not miss the sight from almost anywhere around the Danube from many kilometers. The inside view of this beautiful monstrous building is equally incredible. If you are in Budapest a visit is really a must. The night view from a far distance looks like a royal gigantic palace with a beautiful reflection in the pristine waters of Danube.

A spectacular sight and must see on an any visit. Highly recommended the tour where they take you around the parliament and you are given an audio guide to follow. You get to see the grand staircase and the guarded crown of Hungary. You also visit one of the legislative chambers. On the tour you get to learn about the history and design of the building and its influence. Recommend visiting inside and out. Lit up fabulously as night.

I’m obsessed with this building. Truly emblematic of the beauty and history in Budapest. Beautiful at day, sparkling at night. The tour is fantastic too. The room with the crown jewels is the real highlight! make sure you book your tour tickets in advance.

The view from outside is just amazing! By that I mean from all the sides. At least 2-3 places to take awesome pictures. I have not been inside, tickets are around 30 euros, check the official website.

This is a really pretty place to visit, it does feel a little like a fairytale as there's quite a number of spires. You can visit the church as well as the bastion itself. There are some great views of the city from here and is quite a romantic setting (if it's quiet). Nonetheless, its picturesque views offer great photo opportunities and is not one to miss if you like that.

A very nice place to visit for free. You can take very nice pictures there. There are some shops and coffee places, but they are always full. The best part is Matthias Church with its beautiful roof (this can be accessed by payment only). There are plenty of places to sit, and there are some toilets but you need to pay for them.

The architecture of this landmark is truly stunning. It takes you back to the monarchic times. It provides probably one of the best views of the city. If you want to avoid the crowd, go there early (before 10 AM), otherwise, you might need to wait for a good photo spot. But the best lights are around sunset (and obviously the place is packed at that time)

My new favourite place in Budapest. We visited 3 times on a 4 day trip! Not only is the architecture beautiful, but you get incredible views of the city. Absolutely breathtaking and worth the visit! Absolutely stunning location, the highlight of our visit to Budapest. Most of the site is free, but for a small fee you can walk along the ramparts and take pictures away from the bulk of the crowds, which I would definitely recommend. The view is also lovely but the architecture is truly spectacular and it was hard to tear myself away from it!

Entry is free but fairly crowded depending on when you go - best views would be during sunrise (with the fewest tourists) or sunset. The Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the must-see sights when in Budapest so I would highly recommend it.

Beautiful place in Budapest. Fisherman's Bastion is located at height. You can go by stairs. Or take the funicular from the starting point. After a bit of trek you will arrive at beautiful landmark. From where you can have completed view of the city overlooking Danube river. Architecture is at its best at this place. Must visit if you love to see old buildings and get connected with ancient times. Strongly recommend 👍👌

Such a beautiful place with a lovely lookout over this city and clearly the best picture spot in town as there were so many people there taking photos. But the whole place reminded me of Hogwarts. I just loved being there. Get a coffee or a chimney cake and just enjoy it.

This place is really lovely, the architecture is great. It has a great view of the pest side. Lots of people during the day but if you go there earlier, it’s really a different vibe and feel. You can appreciate the place more. There’s also a fee if you want to reach the highest wall in Fisherman’s Bastion. Tickets can be bought online or on site.

Not to miss: this the place, which you do not want to miss when visiting Budapest...it's very high on the hill with lots of stairs, if you search on Google maps it's recommends you to take stairs, and not many people are aware but a bus goes up to the Bastion...and it drops you right at the spot..no need to take single stairs. It's such a beautiful place with a mesmerizing view over the City Budapest...I would highly recommend to go there...it's an experience to be there...:)

A beautiful fort on the Danube basin, looking over Budapest stole my heart. Its beautiful roof tiles, architectural elements and the vibe from atop was truly extraordinary. This place is a must visit while in Budapest.

This is a must!! It's a nice walk to get there, it has really good views and you don't need to pay to see the buildings (you can for extra sightseeing)! In front of the Mathias church we were lucky to see Chinese children playing a symphonic concert

If you can visit in the late afternoon and stay until the early evening, you can get a nice view from here at sunset. I opted to walk up from the Chain Bridge because the weather was nice and I wanted to see all of the autumn colors as I hiked up to Castle Hill.

The castle and fisherman’s bastion is right beside one another - It’s a visitors main attraction spot, but I most say extremely hassle free. I’ve travelled a lot, and most tourist attractions have creepy men trying to sell you items, or stick tacky bracelets on your arm then ask for money. Here none of that happens at all. You can walk around freely which is nice. Which should be the Norm to do anyways - but I found it good. Not too overwhelming (again this might depend on the time you go). February not that busy, and in the evenings very quiet. My apartment was close by, the views are spectacular. The downside you’ll see just LOADS AND LOADS of phones all over the place, in your face, in your space 😂 when are we ever gonna live in the moment 🤷‍♀️ you can see Budapest city from here. Look it’s definitely nice to see, to get into this little castle you’ve to pay a fee but you’re basically paying to see all these “travel bloggers and insta” people taken up the entire balconies 🫡

Beautiful architecture, it is honestly impressive even more so during a sunny day! Reaching the bastion is quite easy by foot. However, as it stands on a hill, it can be quite steep at times (there are a lot of stairs, too!). It does have good bus connections (bus no.16 takes you straight to the main square). I would recommend going to the bastion not only for the amazing view of Budapest but also for the tour of the underground caves as it's really interesting!

Great visit here, atmosphere was fabulous and the views of the city and river were excellent. We took the electric buggy taxi up, a fun way to arrive. Food and drink available, make sure you have change for the toilet!.

ST. STEPHEN'S BASILICA It is named in honor of Stephen, the first King of Hungary (c. 975–1038), whose right hand is preserved in the reliquary. The basilica features a Greek cross ground plan. While we didn't visit the interior of the church, we purchased tickets from the ticket office located across from the right side of the church and ascended to the exterior balcony encircling the church's dome, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding city. The steps to reach there are quite a few, but the experience is truly rewarding, especially as you reach the vast area beneath the external dome, where you can glimpse the interior dome of the church.

Such a stunning building. The ticket office is just off to the side. Expect to queue to buy your ticket. We bought the combined ticket which I recommend so you can get the fantastic views from the top. There are lifts to each part but you will have to climb a few stairs regardless. One of the most interesting things was St Stephen's hand kept in a case.

For sure, it is one of the most impressive buildings in Budapest and Europe. The outside is beautifully lightened during the night, and the details of its facade can be viewed during the daytime. In December, you'll also have the chance to visit one of Europe's most astonishing Christmas markets here. The inside is also a strong recommendation for all tourists. Usually, prices and waiting times are okay if you're not visiting during prime season.

Got the ticket for inside the church, treasury and terrace dome. The Full ticket is definitely worth it, inside is amazing and the terrace views are second to none on this side of the river. The treasury is less impressive and can be missed imo.. There's 307 steps and Further steps at the top so not suitable if you can't climb the steps

One of the Budapest must visits. Come early as it's very busy here. I suggest getting the rooftop combo package. A striking basilica from outside, it's a great photo opportunity. Inside is mind blowing. Such beautiful and reverence. A true blessing to the almighty creator. There are roped off spots for quiet prayer and reflection. Please take your hat off indoors. A group of Chinese tourists unfortunately showed a lack of respect by refusing to do so. The treasure room is interesting with luxurious and historical relics from previous bishops. The rooftop had great views on rainy or sunny days. It's worth the extra effort. You can take the lazy elevator or take the stairs like I did. Combined ticket is 3500HUF or free for teachers

What an beautiful Basilica! We purchased tickets to hear Ave Maria and the acoustics were excellent. Take the time to wander around inside and see the art and altars. This is a functioning church so act accordingly. The Christmas fair outside is well done and had a lot to offer (much more than Vienna). This is on stop you should not miss.

Indeed, a treat for the eyes. St Istvan’s (Stephen’s) Basilica is one of the best architectures of Budapest. Although we didn’t get a chance to enter inside Basilica, we were delighted by the minute details of the arts engraved on the exterior walls. I am looking forward to visit the church again so that I can get a chance to enter and enjoy the panoramic view of Budapest from its terrace.

It's not a place to pray for free. The Basilica and its grandeur come with a price: 6,000 HUF. The church hall at a lower fee is worth the money, I think, unless you want to see the surrounding view at the top. The Treasury is composed of very ornate robes, monstrances, and paintings. Going down the spiral steps is not for the faint-hearted or weak knees. 4-man lift is available, but the queue is long. The view at the top of the dome is breathtaking. However, there's no need to pay this extra fee if you've already gone on the Budapest Eye. The church hall is impressive and quite popular with weddings. Its decor is breathtaking, and as with all Basilicas, it gives you that feeling that God actually resides there. If you want to light a candle, make sure you have the right coins as the paying boxes do not provide other methods of payment.

The place at the time of visit was crowded, but still had the time and space for observing and appreciating the architecture. It is of great historical importance to the people. There was a service going on but the experience was wonderful especially the amazing sounds from the pianoforte. Highly recommended.

Lovely Basilica. The center of the city. Extravagant interiors but nothing different than say, St Peter's Basilica in Rome which is FREE. If you feel like giving a forced donation by buying a ticket, please do make the pope happy! I loved getting the free (voluntary tipping) walking tour with the guy in the red umbrella everyday at 11 am - i tipped as much as the entrance and was the best introduction to Budapest for 2.5 hours. andraci Avenue just behind it is fantastic to walk.

A beautiful basilica, we really enjoyed our visit there. This is the largest church in Budapest. To access the dome, you can use 364 steps or the elevator, and this offers amazing views. The entrance is approximately £10 pp.

Really nice place. If you want to go in , you need to buy a ticket from the ticket office next to the church. There is 2 different tickets Either just church or church and viewing gallery. The viewing gallery has a lift ( actually 2 ) to get up and down or if your daft as a brush. You can use the stairs.

Yeah I don't get why you'd need to pay a few to enter a place of worship. Having said that, the fee paid is peanuts compared to the Jewish place not too far away, which is absolutely ridiculous. Nevertheless, back to this Basilica. I was impressed by the architecture and design. Truly amazing.

Probably the most beautiful basilicum I ever visited! Don't miss king Stephen's (not Stephen King 😉) naturally mummified right hand, which is one of the most significant Hungarian national relics. It's located in a box at the right side.

I’ve been traveling around Central Europe for the past 2 weeks and I’ve not seen a queue this long to purchase entry tickets to a cathedral. Attempted to purchase tickets online but somehow the website wasn’t working so I returned the next morning before the crowd. There’s several ticket option - church and tower & treasury and a combination of both. There’s a lift that goes almost to the top of the tower with amazing views of Budapest.

Just simply amazing, probably the most grandeur thing in the city of Budapest. The view from the top is also breathtaking, especially during sunset. Be aware though there is an elevator that will take you near the top, you’ll still need to take some stairs more until you reach the viewing platform.

It was an amazing experience the building itself was absolutely magnificent and the architecture humbles you. The inner section of the church takes you back in the era of kings and kingdoms and the artwork was truly something else. Last but not least the view on the floor is awe-inspiring I was left stunned from you could all of Budapest.

Spectacular church, opulent from every angle. It is certainly worth a visit while in Budapest. The treasury is a little disappointing as it's very small..the view from the tower is impressive. Expect to take some 145 steps. However there is a lift (and toilets mid way up). Like St Peters in Rome it is a masterclass in craftsmanship, and work that can be enjoyed by any regardless of faith. A certainty for a visit while in Budapest.

The exterior looks beautiful and fits really well with the other buildings, and the interior is absolutely stunning. The design of the altar is very eye catching. I would definitely recommend coming here, even if you aren't religious.

The views along the river bank are great and there is some amazing architecture! Worth a visit if you are ever in Budapest. Located right next to the parliament building.

To get there you need to walk right on the edge of the river. We were there after a few days with heavy rain, which made it muddy 🤷🏻‍♀️ as there is no real pavement. Hope that in time they will build the beautiful promenade. The memorial itself was heavily decorated with candles, flowers and traditional jewish materials. It is a beautiful memorial, sad, melancholic. Would benefit from some lighting at night.

It could get very touching if you know the story behind this. Looking at the monuments could bring you back to the devastating moment. Along the street and river there were many nice architectural buildings, not to mention the parliament that took us in awe.

Heartbreaking- you can feel the terror and imagine the brutality. It is unimaginable how cruel and barbaric the Nazis and the eager evil Hungarian Iron Cross were, but this exhibit reminds us. Had my grandfather not left Budapest in 1921, our family would have surely been murdered as well.

It is a monument of a jewish victims in WWII. They ordered them to put off their shoes here. Definetly worth visiting and remember the victims. You can visit it for free walking by the Danube just in front of the Danube bank.

A tear is definitely brought to your eye when you realize the trauma and fear of the persecuted people being chase into the river and being shot at by the soldiers, this type of brutality appear to still exit in our modern society in the Middle East.

This bridge has a very good presence connecting between two important pieces of land with its lions guarding its entrance and exit reflecting the power of good art that may take you to another level of amazement. I enjoyed the place but I think it needs a small area of chairs with sun protection to better spend time at this amazing spot. You can see the parliament building and the fisherman castle from this location.

It’s an iconic image of the city of Budapest. That’s why, there’s always a crowd but you can still manage to get good shots after waiting for a few minutes. It offers a pleasant view, however, I gotta say that the wind is pretty strong over the bridge.

Not the most spectacular bridge I have seen and in Budapest alone its my top 3. All that said it offers a very beautiful view. Best is to sit close on one of the boat bars/restaurants and look towards the castle at night. It makes for a very memorable evening.

For me this is the most beautiful bridge I have ever seen. I’ve seen it by day and by night and I can say it was well taken care of it. I think the paint on the metalic parts was recently renewed. The sculptures on it are nice, the lions that guard it at both ends are also giving a nice vibe. Also, when you go by boat under it is an interesting sensation. A very nice landmark I could say.

It's a great walk to get there if the weather is good.

Impressive square with a historical significance. There are seven sculptures on each side that depict people that played a role in Hungarian history. There are a lot of attractions in walking distance such as the, City park, House of music, Vajdahunyad Castle, Museum of Fine Arts and more.

Romanesque looking statues and columns. Huge and stunning. Totally worth a visit and pictures. There added two different museums that are on both sides of the square and the city park is a super short walk from there. Easy to use a city bus to get out to that area, took us about 40 minutes on the bus. It is away from the main downtown areas.

The right side represents literature and arts. The left side represents strength and power....or something similar. It's a nice place to learn about the history of Hungary 🇭🇺.

Im giving this a four star as although the monuments are spectacular, and very akin to Vatican city style pillars that curve, there is a huge square that could be much more vibrant but remains bear. Fisherman's Bastion was much more impressive in my opinion.

Near the museum of Fine Arts Hősök tere (Heroes' Square) is noteworthy for its Millennium Monument with statues featuring the Seven chiefs of the Magyars. Home to political evens and rallies, access by public transportation makes for a quick visit.

I could spend the whole day taking pictures and meeting other tourists at this square alone. But, better still, there's a lovely agricultural park close by with a peaceful flowing river. It's one of the stops (I think #9) on the hop on hop off tour. Budapest generally is a surprisingly great tourist city. Would definitely visit here again.

HEROES' SQUARE The square is located at the far end of Andrassy Avenue, adjacent to City Park, and it stands as one of the prominent squares in Budapest. I guess everyone knows this, but don't miss this place if you are coming to Budapest! This square is magnificent and it's best to visit it with a tourist guide or to prepare yourself with a bit of Hungarian history reading so you can catch the whole concept. This museum is absolutely critical to educate both Hungarians and tourists on the horrors of communism and totalitarianism in the country. The stories, images and artifacts remind us all the value of democracy and how fragile it is, and the high cost we all pay when we lose it. My rating was mostly due to the lack of opportunity to present a more forceful and impactful message, most messages were in the form of videos with Hungarian audio, poor or no English signage made the message dissipate. I hope it is remodeled to create a better impact and easier for the international audience to absorb.

Visited the museum on March 15 which the museum offers free entrance. There was a long line but it went by pretty fast. The exhibition is mostly in hungarian but they do have English subtitles and english notes available. It was interesting 4 floors exhibitions worth the shot to visit.

My 10 year old son, and I visited. We did the audio tour which was a bit too detailed and long-winded. We skipped some of the sections, but it was still very informative. The best part is at the end in the basement. We checked our backpacks in the luggage storage, and it worked very well.

Me and my brother (USA, 18 and 19) spent 2.5 hours here. We did not get the audio guide. Like other reviews - the staff is at the very least NOT friendly. It cost us $23.49 USD for 2 of us - full price tickets (they do not have student discounts for students with citizenship outside the EU area). Almost everything is written in Hungarian, so consider the audio guide IF 1. you have more time or 2. You really like learning /history. There was enough details for us from the many many videos with English subtitles and the one pager descriptions in about half of the rooms. Overall we learned about a side of history barely taught in American classrooms and so I find this to be a MUST VISIT, even with all the negatives. We came in at 10:10 and had to wait 10 minutes in a line to buy tickets. When we exited around 12:45 there was a pretty long line stretching outside the building (probably 20-30 minute wait).

Its difficult to describe a visit to this museum as enjoyable given its focus. But, if you want to learn about the recent history of Hungary, this is a good place to start. We took the audio guide as we were unsure how much would be in English. Turned out that there are A4 sized cards on the wall in each exhibit/room in English you can take out and read. We still enjoyed having the audio guide. My teenager particularly found this museum fascinating. She listened to every bit of the audio guide and read absolutely every piece of information in here she could find. We spent several hours here having a break for lunch. Even if you haven't much time, a walk round over an hour or so will give you a good taste of what is in this museum & if you are an English speaker, the A4 info cards will be sufficient for you to grasp each exhibit. Some of the old videos displayed recounting this time period are harrowing & a sobering reminder of such recent history.

A good first stop to a trip to Budapest as it helps you understand what Hungary went through and how it relates to some of the other common tourist attractions. The audio guide is a must for English speakers, without it you only have paper pamphlets in certain rooms. I took off a star because of the whole set up. The music was way too intense in one of the first rooms while I was trying to watch the video. The interviews on the wall are also a bit confusing, one would play and then it switches to another screen and then back.

Not a very enjoyable museum due to the nature of its content but a must visit in order to understand and learn form one of the darkest periods of our time. The exhibitions are very well curated, the atmosphere of each room really takes you into the topic they are showing. The rooms are impresione and also very interactive. I would recommend to go early in the day to avoid the many visitors it gets and to buy the audioguide.

First of all the reason I'm knocking a star off is because the staff are so unfriendly and you aren't supposed to take pictures.. I have no idea why that would be though. Otherwise, it's good value for money, educational, and a really interesting place.

When visiting Budapest, the House of Terror should definitely be visited and enriches the city trip. In general, this museum shows the time of Budapest/Hungary under National Socialism and the time under Communism. The museum illustrates well how two very different political directions nevertheless intersect in their cruelty. Admission is fine. I would really recommend an audio guide, as there is a lot of information in it and it can be relatively uninteresting without one. I would also recommend visiting at weekends when there are no school groups. There are lockers in the museum for storing valuables. Inside it was very very humid and warm - I would take water with me.

I give only 3 stars because the real goldmine of information, documents, images and exhibits is very, very badly organised. The itinerary of the visit is not clearly explained, and one can deduce it only if he knows the history and the events (I did it, but not the same for several visitors, who were wandering inside the venues with no clue of what to see first). The volume of propaganda music and speeches was so loud to overwhelm the audio guide explanations. The captions - when available...- were often only in Hungarian. The wardens spoke NO English at all. Finally, few places to sit. A real pity.

This was a sobering exposé of atrocities in the post WW2 and Soviet occupation era. It was a thorough and well documented timeline showing the impact to the daily lives of ordinary citizens caught in the crosshairs of war. The only criticisms are that the museum would itself become another terror in the event of a fire, given the overcrowding of visitors, close quarters and unlabeled fire exits. The English audio guide also portrayed the Hungarian politicians as being forced unwillingly into choosing sides in WW2 due to being squeezed between Germany and Russia, with no mention of their aspirations to retake land lost after WW1.

The climate in this place is just amazing. So good idea to create this that much scary. The things presented are just facts. There's a lot of videos. Don't take the audio guide as this does not help you to focus on what you see or watch. On the other hand it works just terrible. Sometimes switches automatically (mostly in the rooms with videos) where in quiet rooms without and texts doesn't work and you need to turn on manually. I have found it rather disturbing after just 5 minutes. The organization is half good. That means you start 2nd floor and follow the arrows until 1st floor. Then the access to the basement is something you need to figure out on your own also with direction.

Interesting museum about the history of Hungary and the past of the Soviet regime. It can be abit abstract at times and some exhibits have no English descriptions. The exhibit is not that big and can be finished in about 30-45 minutes. The sentiment of the museum is good as you can see the real building and place of the atrocities, but it is not very educational. Museum tours can block whole rooms and passages for other visitors which is frustrating. Staff are just curt and not friendly.

Pros: - For a museum about terror, it felt eerie and claustrophobic. The visuals, music and sound all supported the atmosphere. Cons: - They use a revisionist history where Hungarians were portrayed as victims of Nazis whereas in reality, they were allies and enthusiastic collaborators (Hungary chose to join the Axis). This museum fits well with Orban and Fidesz’s narrative. - Almost everything is in Hungarian so you need to get the audio guide. Is the propaganda intended for a domestic audience? - The gift shop contains more propaganda literature about how wokism or Soros is corrupting the world.

A truly unique church in Europe. Not too grand, but also not small. The church is beautifully decorated with patterns usually not seen in other churches. Very hard to believe that this was once a mosque. Exterior tower is nice. Went for a High Mass service to get the full effect of the worship space - truly stunning. As a tech geek, I was impressed to see a transparent screen used to display the words to the hymns, readings, and sermons. Don’t forget to visit the side chapels. Great surroundings as well, a must for tourists.

Magnificent church. Very beautiful and impressive. lots of beautiful and breathtaking details. I loved every single corner of it. inside the church you can see some valuable objects too. The paintings and ceiling craftsmanship were amazing.

Tickets for entry are across the plaza, with an optional extra ticket for going up the tower (around 300 steps). Architecturally aesthetic church that’s worth a visit if you’re religious or just want a quick sightsee. It takes about 30 minutes to see everything inside and while the displays show more about the history of the church, it’s all pretty similar to other touristy churches, so it can be boring for some.

Wow, what an amazing church and in a beautiful area too . I came to Budapest specifically to visit St Stephens Basilica and left totally confused .There are so many lovely churches here, and this one is right up there . The beautiful roof reminded me of St Stephens Cathedral in Vienna and inside just got even more beautiful . It may be me being not very travelled and a bit thick but this must be a one off . It is stunning and I left awestruck . I was lucky enough to be treated to a very talented young man playing a beautiful piece on the organ . He was great a real star in my opinion . Personally I loved the pulpit and a sort of telescopic Lamb of God window it was great .

Will give place a 4.5. One of the most popular places in Budapest. Go early as it gets crowded with bus loads of visitors by 10am. Photo opportunities are aplenty outside but wait till you walk through the entrance. The interior is magnificent. One of the most well decorated we have ever visited. The tour inside is also well routed and planned by the management. 👏. There was only a small crowd inside and our cameras never stopped snapping. 😂 The relics and displays were awesome and colourful. Entrance to Matthias is 2900 HUF/adult. Super reasonable and really worth the effort. To get here, there’s a steep climb up some well paved walkway. For those who are physically challenged, there is a bus to go up. Right to the door steps, literally. Don’t miss this place if you are in Budapest.

The most beautiful church in Hungary, they say. And one of the most beautiful I've ever visited, and trust me I've seen a few and the best around Europe! Easily beats some very heavy names out there! Very warmly decorated, really good vibes, the balconies and the upper level tour a super plus! Stunning to say the least.

Wonderful architecture, the top tiles are colorful are unique for that place. The inside acoustic is awesome, the person in charge of the piano played a piece in the organ, it literally blew our mind. The museum, collection of seals, artifacts, treasures are interesting.

Spectacularly well maintained church. If you’re lucky, there will be live music when you are visiting and you get to enjoy the amazing acoustics of the building. This is in a very well visited part of budapest so if you want to get a private moment alone, you will want to come early before the crowds show up. Afternoons are not recommended for this reason. Set aside an hour so you can do justice to this church.

A great part of Hungary, was very peaceful and quiet here. You can pay a small price to go in to the church and have a look around which I would recommend due to the beautiful architecture. You can pay a small price and climb the tower which I would recommend, you may struggle this if you are older and scared of heights. I think it is 197 steps tall with fantastic views all over Budapest.

Amazing church built in Gothic fashion. It is more beautiful from the inside, and has very unique architecture and design. The small fee you pay to visit the inside is worth the experience. There are several info placards inside that guide and inform you about the history of the church. Museum is accessible up the stairs and included in the ticket. Visit inside the church is a must.

The ins and out of this magnificent gothic style church are forth visiting and paying the entrance ticket for. We arrived right before it opened and were able to take photos without the crowds. They offer guided tours in English with an actual guide or you can follow on your phone via an app. Inside you can go to the tower, up around 100 steps. You can also observe some royal pieces.

Beautiful church set in the fisherman's bastion area over looking the river Danube. You can buy tickets from the kiosk across from the church less than a minute's walk. There is a dress code, so make sure you look at the signs to make sure you are dressed properly.

A beautiful church on a hill with adorable surrounding streets. The church has a wonderful architecture and looks like something from a fairy tale. Around the church is a beautiful square, a park and the rest of the fortress, which is very photogenic.

Beautiful church, tickets are reasonably priced. The museum (which is inside the church) is included with the base ticket to the church. I really liked all the paintings and tapestries. I recommend you to visit it in the morning, because there are not that many people.

We have been here in January 2024. It’s so sensational! The Matthias Church is located on Trinity Square in the Castle District on the Buda side of the city in the Fishermen's Bastion section. The Matthias Church - officially the Church of Our Lady (Nagyboldogasszony-templom) - was the first church on the Schlossberg. It is also registered as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. I can highly recommend a tour here!

We went when it was raining which made the tile roof look especially attractive. The outside of the church is right next to Fisherman’s Bastion. The inside has a lot to offer. Multiple levels, amazing stained glass and relics from the church’s past. It also has a great gift shop that sells umbrellas so being as we didn’t have any it was a little miracle they did!

Background: It was built in 1015, original name was The Church of Mary/The Church of Our Lady, destroyed/reconstructed many times and two kings of Hungary were crowned here. I can review only the exterior of the church, since my 48hrs. Budapest Card is not acceptable for the moment. A lot of tourists like me queueing the line just to get inside. Some of them, just want to see the church especially the colored tile roof. The updated church is styled and restored in Neo-Gothic. Recommendable to visit this place and if you have an extra pocket, better to see inside the church.

An absolute spectacle to feast your eyes with. It is easy to reach the temple with bus and it absolutely worth to see .The church takes you to different era makes you feel like you are in the Medieval ages the architecture the paintings . A trully fascinating spectacle which words cant describe. The ticket to enter is about 15€ for adults although it is open until seven o'clock. There are several subsection to explore and read about the history and the role it served shaping the history of the Hungarian nation. It is easily in top 5 places to visit in Budapest !

Amazing building, newly refurbished and the effort that went into it really shows! The acoustics is simply great, the seats are very comfortable and the air conditioning provides an optimal temperature. I'm shocked that I've seen Wagner's Gotterdammerung which is close to five hours and left the hall feeling refreshed rather than tired. Of course this is reflected in the ticket price, but, seriously this is a competitor in the best halls I've ever been to, so it's understandable. I should mention the staff are an awesome bunch of guys, very helpful and non intrusive, I only got my ticket checked at entry. I would recommend this place for any performance because it gives you the opportunity to take some great pics inside and have the joy of listening to a great sound.

Unfortunately I could not get tickets for the opera performance since everything is sold out for the nearest dates. At least I found out that they provide guided tours in a few languages. The ticket price is 9000 forint, you can book it on their website or buy it there. I really enjoyed our tour the duration of which was 1 hour. The guide was friendly and she shared lots of stories about the Opera House establishment and history. And the building itself is majestic inside 😍

We visited this Opera during our recent trip to Budapest. Though we could not take time to watch the show. Since there were no tickets available. Overall the building looks great inside. For the show maybe next time. 😊

Take a tour, enjoy this wonderful small opera house with lots of historical information and, with a little luck, watch a new stage design being set up. It's 25$/23€ and well worth it, with a little performance included. Also do watch a play. Best to book or get your tickets WELL in advance. Otherwise you'll only be able to get in line an hour before the performance and get, very comfortable, standing room only assigned "seats" for a very reasonable $4,50/4€. It's a wonderful experience. Unfortunately I can't post the coming operas information and the videos of the wonderful interior and impromptu performances.

Absolutely stunning place. The interior is elaborate and exceptionally well finished. It was a pleasure to spend an evening in such a beautiful place regardless of your musical preferences. You can have a drink on the terrace overlooking the main street. The staff were helpful, professional and multi-lingual.

If you are a traveler who couldn't book a seat, you can go to the ticket office on the right side of the 0th floor at 5 p.m You can reserve opera seats and standing seats on Hungarian National Opera Home Page site. Standing seats are held at 5 p.m. In other words, you can book standing seats at 5 p.m. online and offline at the same time. Standing seats can only hang a hip over a seat. The concert space is half visible, and the orchestra is half visible Five dollars is enough to feel the feeling and emotion of the opera, and you will thank me. Tickets were 9000 HUF per person and they have tours available in English, Spanish, French, German, Hungarian (choosing Hungarian makes the tour 5000 HUF I believe) and I think also Italian. The tour guide was amazing. The tour was very engaging, NOT filled with boring facts but rather learning through actually useful information and funny jokes. ⭐️⭐️ At the end of the tour there was a 10 min performance. I recommend trying to grab a seat on the stairs or a view in the middle. We were on the right side and the singing was not heard as well because of the speakers. ⭐️⭐️As I remember, the box with all four seats is around €160 so if you plan on going to opera make sure to bring something glamorous like a tuxedo/dress as to not stand out and look like a local 😂

It is definitely worth buying a ticket to visit the opera in Budapest, the cost is 9000HUF including a 1 hour tour with a guide who tells the history of the opera and a 10-minute performance on the end! What a stunning, opulent building. We popped in earlier in the week and then booked the hour tour.. delighted to have fitted this in. So informative and just to see the spectacle of the auditorium and the enormous stage with the crew working on a production was a highlight of my stay

When I came to Budapest two years ago, the Opera was not opened to the public due to renovation. Finally, I took a visit to the magnificent building this time. It deserved a two-year waiting any way. The only minor bug was that the guide in this Opera cannot speak English fluently and was not friendly, either.

I can highly recommend a tour in English around the beautiful Opera House. Many thanks to our guide Miss Greta for all the interesting stories. The short concept in the end of our visit was just brilliant. Hope to get tickets for the Opera performance next time.

We absolutely enjoyed the tour of this newly renovated opera house and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Budapest. The building is stunning, the tour was informative and entertaining and they even give the tour group a mini, 10 minute performance at the end of the tour. Five stars without a doubt.

This place is amazing. After just being to the Vienna opera house this place tops it. Very nice and lots of history. Was not damaged in the WW2 like Vienna was.

My sister bought two tickets as a surprise on hour first night staying in Budapest. It was definitely a ‘must’ when you’re there. Both the architecture and the atmosphere were breathtaking! Everyone except a few tourists were following the dress code. That’s why, we were also dressed elegantly for that night. The symphony orchestra’s performance took two hours excluding the half an hour break. I strongly suggest to experience this environment then you go to Budapest!

Beautiful building both outside and inside. We got to find tickets online for half the regular price and they were the best invested 6 EUR of my life. My seats were on the third floor, but the visibility was remarkable considering the actual distance. I really enjoyed the ballet and the wine during the two intermissions.

We did the opera tour, and it was awesome. They take you through several areas and rooms throughout the building and explain their purpose, history, and artwork/decoration. They then lead you to the balcony section, and eventually to the main seating area. Then they finish it all off with a mini performance from some of their artists. It was a great experience, and we highly recommend.

the free area at the opera house is already so breathtakingly beautiful and i cannot imagine what the paid tour would be like! the patterns, angles and geometries are fantastic. Really could spend some time looking through the details.

BEWARE: if you are going to a performance, BE ON TIME. They don’t let you in even if you arrive 6 minutes late (like I did). You can enter when the break is happening. If you are on a budget and would still want to experience a performance of one of the best operas in the world, go to the office 2 hours before the show and buy a ‘standing ticket’ for only 5€. You have cushions tu lean on. But being standing up is worth it. If you don’t want to feel excluded, wear something nice, opera-nice. But still you can attend with jeans and shirt, as I did.

A beautiful and large market, intended for visiting tourists. The place is clean, tidy. On the first floor there are lots of stalls selling meat / sausage and stalls selling mainly paprika souvenirs. On the second floor lots of amazing and unique souvenirs as well as fast and delicious food stalls. The place is worth a visit. experience.

This interesting market is located at one end of Elizabeth Bridge. The building is fairly ornate, especially the roof. It is built on two levels - the ground floor features fresh food in all its guises and the second floor features clothes, leather goods and lots more! On the second floor there is also a fast food court featuring authentic street food - well recommended for a bite to eat. You'll find souvenirs here will be much cheaper than the shops. Definitely worth a visit.

A great shopping area with much of joy and tasty bakery products. I enjoyed their special Hungarian cake and cookies. I loved the place, it’s just by the Danube river where you can take the cruise to explore the city and see the popular landmarks such as the citadel and the bridges.

Impressive building with an amazing range of local products, souvenirs and foods to try. Great to walk around, shop and eat typical things like Langos! I bought Hungarian sausage and Paprika! Bear in mind some stalls in the centre sell the exact same products than other stalls in the back / corners for a higher price.

The market hall has 3 levels and is really huge. Everyone will find something for themselves here, we have delicious Hungarian dishes, many different souvenirs, spices, Hungarian sausages, sweets and clothes. Definitely everyone who is in Budapest should visit this wonderful place!

It's a nice place to visit. Aside from selling local foods, there are plenty of stores selling all sorts of souvenirs with prices on average better than on Vaci street. Quite a few dining options but it can get busy during lunch time so I recommend avoiding that time.

This place was amazing!! Wonderful smells, terrific people, excellent food and the place is huge..... Sausage, meat, goulash and music. Guy played excellent music on a violin while we ate. This is a must when traveling to Budapest. Stop by the huge green bridge next door going over the Danube!!!!! We loved it here and the locals that was very kind...... Safe travels..............100% a must stop for any culture.

Interesting place, many shops lot of variety as for example: Grocery, Butche shops, local food bistro, souvenirs. Nice architectural. I do recommend visiting. Keep in mind that although the Central Market is opening early in the morning, starting 6 AM, only few shops are available that time. Most of them are opening later than 9.

Large market in Central Budapest selling food, linen and souvenirs. There are some eateries on the top floor but the number is limited. The market has wide aisles and is very clean. There is that wonderful smell of smoked meat. The other floors are accessible by escalator but you need to search for them.

My husband and I are big foodies - so naturally, we loved it!!! Most of the people working there know English so they can explain the differences between products and help you make the right choice. Also, if you're getting tired of bringing back the souvenirs in the form of magnets, this is where you'll get everything done! A bag of sweet, smoked paprika, goulash paste, salami... you can truly bring a taste of Hungary back home to share the experience with friends and family.

No matter if it rains or shines, the Great Market Hall is a great option, and definitely one of the top Budapest attractions!

Lots of meat, vegetables, fruits, spices, etc you can buy here at ground floor. At 1sr floor there are some restaurant where you can eat traditional Hungarian dishes. It was reasonable and so tasty. There are also many souvenir shop where you can find the wonderful present to your friend. You should not miss coming to the Central market hall when you come to Budapest. I’m sure you will be able to spend wonderful time here. Highly recommended.

An extremely beautiful market in Budapest. Definitely a must visit for any tourist, especially to understand the culture better. There is an area serving authentic Hungarian food - that was truly an experience I enjoyed. Don't forget to try the spicy Paprika and the Goulash. Incredible stuff.

Worth a visit if you need souvenirs or wanna check out for local market products. Lots of butchers, vegetable stands but most of all souvenirs, so that I am not sure how much it ist still been loved my local Hungarians. But they have a cute restaurant where you can try local dishes, listen to some live music and relax before or after discovering Budapest by feet. The building is nice, but “nicest market hall Europe”- nope ;-)

It is a great place to buy a lot of daily needs. Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Meat are all available. A wide variety of products are available. Fresh fish is also available at the basement of the market. It is a popular destination for the tourists and there are several different varieties of souvenirs available. Best time to visit is on Fridays and Saturdays.

Great place to visit, especially for souvenirs, a good place to taste the traditional Hungarian sausage which is delicious! The market is huge, it resembles a train station - you can buy everything from fruit and vegetables to dairy and traditional meat products, spices, handwork and many souvenirs. You can buy sachets with Hungaria's traditional spice - paprika (both hot and mild) and matching wooden spoons, traditional folk costumes or wooden doll cases. It is a must if you visit Budapest!

Excellent building with a great amount of space. First floor is excellent for getting your day to day items, and the second floor has a ton of food items, gifts, household goods, and some clothing/purses/etc. The top floor, during peak times, can get VERY claustrophobic as the isles aren’t very wide and they’re lined on both sides with stalls and shops. The place seems very clean, but there’s no heat, so come prepared.

Look, I’m pretty too the point I’m not going to glorify this market because it’s in a city I’ve never been. To me, it’s a tourist trap. Full of things I’ll just never need. Most of the items are overpriced. I won’t sell you the line of “it’s a must see attraction” because it’s not. There is lots of fruit and meat stalls here. Spices, t shirts, magnets etc etc. we had chocolate and smoothies here. On the top level they have a little food court area, lots of people around so I found it overwhelming. Nobody hassles you to buy items, that’s the good thing or runs after you for money like most tourist trap places. When you first enter the market there is a dark curtain you’ve to push over like your entering somewhere you shouldn’t be or something, I don’t think that’s needed now 😅 I nearly knocked myself out the thing was so heavy. Perhaps it’s good to pass time, pass some hours by looking at everything. For me I was bored after 15 minutes and wanted to explore.

The souvenirs are definitely geared towards the tourists..there are numerous sellers of paprika everywhere. As a market it feels somewhat authentic, but like all central markets in cities, they make the money from the tourists, with a handful of real stalls for the locals. Worth a visit for sure! But don't expect to get a deal.

We've got the famous hungarian smoked paprika which smells amazing and very happy with it, as well as a bottle of Tokaji wine which we were going to drink when we get back to the hotel, we were really looking forward to it and very disappointingly we did not like it and it wasn't cheap. We've got some "beluga caviar" as well which we were told no need to be refrigerated and it taste like the real stuff, no it doesnt, so don't fall for that trap. We bought Mangalica sausage which tastes really good and it's good quality but way overpriced. We paid nearly £20 for only 0.258 kg which makes it £80/kg. Friendly sellers but ripping you off.

It's a beautiful place, but wouldn't recommend to buy or eat here as it's really just for tourists. - A lot of stalls sell exactly same stuffs, and the prices can be very different from each stalls. - Food court upstairs, the prices are not affordable, you can have better options in the area outside of the market. - For the non food part upstairs, it's very narrow to walk around and some owners stand on the walk way as the stall is too small when there is people inside. Not to mention a lot of people just like to stop in the middle of the walk way and chatting. Overall, it's just for the experience to visit one of the famous places in Budapest, but won't buy or eat anything here as the prices are "tourist price". Can take good pictures from upstairs.

Inferior architecture compared to the Valencia Mercado Central. More touristy items for sale here as well, but still visited by locals. In terms of food, you will find many regular foods and fewer delicacies (depending on what you prefer). Also visit the cellar (there are stairs here and there).

I was a little worried about the weather as it rained the night before but the sun stood strong and we were graced with a beautiful view of the city. Entrance to the museum was free due to the public holiday and going up to the top of the tower was not a long wait either once we got to the top we were definitely not disappointed. You do have to be prepared to leave any large bags and coats behind in a free cloakroom. There was about 2/3 minute queue for this. They do allow you to take your phone up through the museum. It may have been because of the public holiday that we were also graced with seeing a short parade outside the main entrance - which was fun and then they stopped for a photo shoot! There are two lifts that will take you up from the bottom to the top which is great for those who are hard of walking or with young families. There was hardly any queue for this. That also steps that can take you up. There are some construction work going on, but this does not take away from any of experience. Definitely worth coming out to see this. We did not buy any food/drinks- so cannot comment on this

Must visit place! Every inches of this city is really beautiful and even more to see them from up top! And the best part is, there is escalator and elevator for those who doesn't want to and/or can't climb the stairs. The way they make things convenient for tourist to go up there easier is very generous! Definitely one of the free place you can go to in Budapest!

Its a very big castle and will take a long time to see complete surroundings. Entrance to the nearby park is free , for going inside you need a ticket. Monday there is no entry inside castle, other days it will open at morning 10 o clock. Night view of the castle is awesome with lights. And morning sunrise also beautiful from here

A very impressive building, or collection of buildings on a hill with quite the spectacular view! Changing of the guards is always a good show, I didn’t use the fenicular, but if you don’t want to walk up that’s a good option for you. Museum was interesting, very much a maze of corridors, stairs and tunnels but all good. You can walk the grounds for free but need to pay a small amount for the museum, no bags allowed in the museum but lockers are provided for free.

By night the castle looks great, but when you get there by day the situation changes. The palace looks like no one is taking care of it - the walls on some parts have the painting fallen. We only went in the yard of castle, in front of it. The entering gate was very beautiful, with sculptures on it and a very nice fence. Inside the castle is an art museum. The place is full of tourists.

Buda castle is one of the tourist attractions in Budapest. Very beautiful very big and inside the castle there are some museums on tickets. River and bridge view is amazing. Also there is rope way for physically challenged people. There are some restaurants and night view is amazing. Highly recommended.

Magical and majestic! You can easily explore this phenomenal castle all day. Still, it won't be enough - you'll want to come back the next day. Great place for a walk, for photos, for rest. Unique atmosphere, so beautiful and magnetic. Incredible panoramic views of the Danube and Pest!
