It's a wonderful place in Trieste ❤️ The main square in the city and one of the biggest squares in the world. Great architecture and monuments. Here is the fountain of the four continents, the building of the municipality and local government. There is access to the sea from the square. Try coffee in the cafe here - it is delicious 😋

One of the stunning places to visit at night. The Italians really know how to light up the night. This place is absolutely majestic, it beautiful during the day but absolutely gorgeous at night. It has lovely statues, water fountains and the buildings architecture is amazing. This place is one of my favourite evening places I’ve ever visited. It’s very lively, with lots to do in and around this area. How could you not check this place out.

Beautiful square overlooking the sea, there are some nice places to have breakfast or some appetizers. All the buildings are clean and well maintained, they look really nice at night when they are enlightened. There are also some nice blue lights on the ground.

Large plaza. Very large. You can get lost in it. So take care. Lots of tourists. Majestic buildings. Even a monumental statue. Good place for pictures cause everybody want pictures with impressive backgrounds. Friends will envy you.

Hidden Jem of a place. New cruise departure port 160km from airport. Took shared shuttle (faultless with (Go Opti) Replacing Venice for cruise ships. Trieste is a mix of styles with a laid back “Barcelona feel” to it. 200,000 people who love their piece of paradise. Outdoor European summer complete with alfresco dining in the heart of the city. Highly recommend.

An architectural masterpiece. Beautiful buildings, lovely bars and cafes. Wonderful views of the harbour.

Unity square you beauty. A must visit place if you go to italy the place is called Trieste. So clean and mesmerizing and a big harbor. The unity square has signature coffee shops and ice cream parlor. Nothing to pay.

Trieste’s biggest and main square - this is also the largest square in Italy that is right by the sea (Adriatic Sea in this case). The grand open space is awe inspiring. This is a great place for hosting concerts as well.

Lovely square, there were many tents up in the square when iw ent there so I couldn't enjoy it to the fullest extent, I guess they had just gotten done putting on a big event. There's a great restaurant on the square that serves the best french toast I've ever had.

Very large square ,right next to the Golf of Trieste with pier and port for gigantic cruise vessels. Square is sourouded with beautiful buildings and the statue at the top of the plaza. It's mostly used for public events.

Great, succinct museum in a place charged with heavy, too recent history. Definitely worth a visit. Plan about 30-40 mins. Audioguides currently unavailable due to covid.

An unexpected little gem. Another sad point of reflection on WW2, and how grim it must have been. It's not a very big museum and there is a lot of reading. For me the map of the transition locations across Germany shows the systematic scale of the operation that was being undertaken. In spite of being close to the town, people did not realise what was going on until late in the war. Entry is free, but a donation is welcome.

Well put together as a museum of what should never have happened. Unfortunately we don't learn, everyone should visit as a reminder.

This is a less known, yet very important site to visit. A remarkable monument of an era that should not be forgotten. For 2 euros only you can buy an audio guide which I really recommend to do so, as otherwise you won't understand what to look at and you won't have all the background information. If you get there by car the most convenient is to park at the supermarket's parking lot nearby.

Small, but nice place to visit, to remember the history. Be aware that with COVID situation today you need a “Green pass” and that many buildings accept limited amount of people at once (2 to 10 people max) so it’s better to come in the morning to avoid queues.

San Giusto is the result of joining two churches together. Impressive interior with a large nave; two aisles on either side; 13th century Byzantine mosaics and a magnificent Gothic rose window. We stayed for mass officiated unusually by a young priest with a sense of humour!

Beautiful church. And next to it you can see the ruins from the romains and go to the bell tower. From there you also get another beautiful view. Going up costs only 2 euro per person

The ambience inside was quite special. The interior was also decorative and splendid as were the religious depictions and altars. Definitely a place to visit.

You can reach the church after a nice hike up the hill, but the view is worth it. Entrance to the tower costs €2 per person. In the tower you will find four large bells and a beautiful view. Parking is tricky and complicated, for experienced drivers only.

14th century Gothic rose window, the portal and the massive bell tower. The whole of the façade, a hut. S. Giusto is a 'cathedral-patchwork' built in Roman times, on a paleochristian hall. Inside, the cathedral surprises, among the forest of columns, for the width of the five naves and the magnificent mosaics of the Venetian-Byzantine school (XII-XIII century). the magnificent wrought-iron chandelier overlooking the central nave, forged by Massimiliano for the throne room of his castle and then given to the cathedral before leaving for Mexico where he later died.

Beautiful cathedral. Ancient mixed with the modern. Interesting use of nautical motifs eg in the sacristy. A nice cool spot at the top of the city.

Thoroughly enjoyed the inside of the Cathedral. Multiple naves, old alongside new, it was fascinating. Totally recommend the visit.

This is a very beautiful church. The architecture, artwork and stature is very nice. It’s beautiful, it’s not e big but it was much larger than I had anticipated. I really enjoyed the time I’ve spent here, if you enjoy visiting churches I would definitely recommend visiting this church when in Trieste.

Totally worth the climb to top of the hill where you find amazing romanesque cathedral. Not so high entrance but with beautiful old parts. Built on remains of roman temple. You can climb the tower to enjoy the view, but for that you have to pay 2€. In it you can see roman construction of old temple.

Beautiful church on the hill with really easy access when you are coming by car. It is possible to park in an underground garage on the sea level and the lift takes you all the way up to the church (and castle as well). Definitely one of the best mammals you can visit in Trieste along with the castle, recommended 100 %. Entrance is free within the opening hours.

The 13th century Cathedral is absolutly stunning. For its age, the well kept nature of the frescos and artefacts surpasses all expectations. We have seen 18th century churches and cathedrals in worse conditions. Have never seen anything like it, especially a cathedral with so many little chapels inside. Amazing, well worth the climb and visit. Almost looks like a movie set for a medieval fantasy film. A holy place rich with history, relics and color!

Very beautiful old church, main church of Trieste. Interior is very nice and interesting, you see and even feel how old the church is. And inside you can see very nice mosaics. The church is located just near the San Giusto castle, on the top of the hill. You can go up the hill along narrow streets starting from the Trieste City Hall.

This is a treasure trove of a church for students of medieval art & architecture and the guides do not do it justice. Most European churches were heavily modified during the Baroque era and most of the Medieval and Renaissance decoration was lost. But not San Giusto; the only Baroque elements were in the side chapels. The church itself maintains its medieval 15th century aesthetic. The church itself retains elements of far earlier churches and temples. It was originally built over a Roman temple in the 6th century and destroyed soon thereafter by the Lombard invasion. Two side-by-side churches were then built in the 11th and 12th centuries both with beautiful mosaic apses. The two churches were joined together in the 15th century, adding a larger central apse which now has a 20th century mosaic on its ceiling that is equally impressive, in its own way. What is absolutely remarkable are the elements of each that have been preserved. The entry to the bell tower was built on a Roman foundation and many original columns were incorporated. The entire entryway to the church was used from the temple, and the sculpted figures on either side are a reused Roman funerary column. The mosaic floor to the left side of the church remains from the 6th century church and the 11th & 12th century apses have their original mosaics. It is worth a euro coin to turn on the lights to these apses for photos. Finally, don't miss the 600 year old painting on the walls and ceiling of the rightmost apse. It's pretty deteriorated, but remarkable how much remains. If you like medieval, don't miss this church in Trieste.

A really pleasant place in the city, good idea to have a “molo” for the tourists like this. Best place to see the sunset in good weather, it should be amazing. Unfortunately we had no good weather conditions to see it because it was cloudy. Anyway this place is worth visiting because the view is beautiful and breathtaking.

This walkway extending about 200 metres out to sea is a magical place for a stroll and a breath of fresh air at any time of day and in any season, a place of enchanting autumnal sunsets, when the buildings on the shores are tinged with red

Nice little pier that's close to the city centre. What I miss are a bunch of benches to sit down and enjoy the view + those little wooden houses where they sell food, drinks and souvenirs. It could add some more charm in the winter.

A lovely place for a walk and to enjoy the sea - Trieste's great asset.

It's a good scenery. Walking around town, I parked in coop parking and just started walking. Parking everywhere else is a tight spot and you will be wasting time looking for one. Make sure you applied for green pass since cafe or restaurant are asking for it. I tool some picture while I was sightseeing, a lot of people are walking so it's not bad to venture around and walk towards the port which I didn't have time. There are a lot of graffiti and it would be nice if the city clean up a bit. It might look not safe but it is safe during the day, not sure about night time.

This is a very interesting castle, was very nice to see. Quite a hike up the hill but definitely worth it. Lots to do and see in and around this area, there’s a lovely cathedral and a couple nice museums to visit in the area. As well as some ruins to visit, I would definitely recommend checking it out. It’s worth the trip.

This beautiful castle is filled with historical enchanting artifacts, as well as the beautiful setting on a bluff on the Adriatic Sea. Stroll the gardens and stay for the summer evening light show that tells the story of Maximillian and Carlota of Mexico, Napoleons involvement and Frank Joseph of Austria. Sit by the waters edge and dip your foot in the Adriatic Sea, near the Sphinx built to welcome Maximillian home.

Lovely monument for a lovely visit. The views of the gulf and the hills from the battlements and the bastion are great - spanning 360*. Very interesting exhibits as well. The surrounding area - with the Cathedral, the Roman forum, the pathways - is very pleasant too. Highly suggested.

The ticket only costs 5 euros. On the wall you will get a very good panoramic view of the city.

Lovely. 2 euros to go up to the tower. Cathedral is free. 3 euros (reduced price) for the musuem. Very worth! The armoury was very interesting and they store alot of the artifacrs underground in the original stone cellars of the battlement where it is nice and cool.

Definitely worth a look and ensure you have a guide to explain the history of the Castello di San Giusto. The view across the water to see three countries at once is amazing. Highly recommended. Please use a tour company and not your own car.

Great little castle. Not from the area perspective, but rather things to view. There is a great panoramic view from the castle, the entrance is 5EUR per adult from 26 to 65. There is an armour museum, and very old church. Actually church is not even in the castle it’s outside the territory, so you can just walk in. I loved it, also one picture did impress me a lot.

Beautiful place to watch the sunset. The castle and surrounding area is a great stop for sightseeing. Take the elevator from the parking garage (to the right of the Roman amphitheater) to avoid hiking up the hill.

Beautiful palace, very well restored & maintained.

Had a quick visit outside the castle during a Wednesday in March 2023. The area looks beautiful, on top of a hill, and well connected. There is a large plateau next to the castle with some old blocks of stones, where students were playing games and football. The entrance to the castle was clear, only a few people that I saw inside.

Didn't expect to spend that much time here, but it was very peaceful, with great views over Trieste and surrounds. You can walk up the walls, followed by a visit to the armoury museum which is free until 20+ Sept. There is on street parking, or if you park at Park San Giusto you can take the elevator all the way up from the town center at the bottom to the castello

We went there in the middle of the day, when it was the warmest - inside the museum we’ve found great conditions: both physically (chill, nice) and mentally (amazing paintings & sculptures). I highly recommend visiting it, since it’s beautiful collection.

A nice visit to the splendor of Trieste's past. A nice house museum. Also attached is the associated art museum. Walk over even if you don't go inside. It at the far end of the pedestrian way that cuts through the city from Grand Canal to the marina/ Riva.

A fantastic experience beyond a classic art gallery!! Amazing collection of late 19th century and more contemporary paintings and sculptures. Interesting layout (start at the top and slowly descend into history). Highlights include a classic Pomodoro sculpture and Italian impressionists. History of the museum and its unique collection practices is also told through the art pieces on display. Enriching experience that goes beyond looking at the pictures. But the real highlight is the structure itself masterfully design by Scarpa to perfectly integrate art and the surrounding landscape. Nooks and glass walls offer glimpses of the beautiful Trieste bay, lines and corners integrate with the art for a real full five-sense immersion. Not to mention the rooftop terrace!! Make sure to visit the outdoor space on the 5th floor. It offers a breathtaking view of the full bay and the mountains! Friendly staff is a huge plus!! Thank you. A must visit if you're in Trieste!

Very cool museum. Its nice to see the split between the two buildings and how the museum evolved from a more Private Collection, all the way to a beautiful more open collection. The Ligabue exhibition was fantastic, his art is truly inspiring and mesmerizing to see. Especially some of the color compositions are incredibly well done. The overall layout is great and honors the painter in a proper way.

Very beautiful building with amazing sculptures. Noone told us there was an English app even though we were clearly tourists so we walked around the museum with very minimum English information. So minus one star for customer service.

Very interesting museum which is divided in two sections, the first section consists of a old furnished house and the second is a art gallery. The old house was incredible, the ceilings were heavenly and there were so many beautiful little details to look at. The art section was rather nice as well housing a wide variety of art including a nice exhibition with some gorgeous impressionist art pieces. World class museum for a nice price, did not harm the place that there was beautiful Italian girl walking in front of me either.

Modern art permanent collection was unexpectedly wonderful, impressionist artists never heard of or seen before! Also celebrates Trieste history in art. Loved also old furniture & art on lower floors - 6 floors altogether! I did it with a lunch break, they allow you back in, plenty cafes nearby. Marked down for lack of air conditioning & poor toilets, but usable.

The building and interior was amazing. All year exhibition was done really well and we were really pleasantly surprised. The personal was helpful. Entry to the official exhibition was free but be aware of other temporary exhibitions. We did not know about it and paid 11€ (as a student discount) for a cca 10min of art. It was great and all that, but it was not worth it. Ask in advance

Been there for Van Gogh exhibition at the beginning of April. Liked it, although it was a little bit stuffy there - better attend it in the morning, when it's less crowdy. Staff was very kind and supportive.

Beautyfull palace from 19.century. Inside is so original. Baron Revoltella realy make a treassure of his palace. In these days there is also exibition of Van Gogh work.

Very lovely church in Trieste, wasn’t fully completed when I was there; it should be done by now but it’s definitely a very beautiful church. It’s very unique being in Italy but was definitely worth checking out.

Been on Serbia like a month ago and this was the biggest serbian church I saw....and not in Serbia. There was no entrance fee. Loved the frescos , especially Christ on a ceiling behind the oltar.

Amazing church in Neo-Byzantine style, very unexpected in Italy, especially in the city center. In combination with palm trees around it looks so nice. Located near the Canal Grande. Its huge dome can be seen even from the top of the Castle of St. Giusto.

Where Joyce lived when he wrote, several of his well known Works: perhaps portrait of an artist, Dubliners, and part of Ulysses. If you like English literature it’s just an interesting place to have visited. It was free admission and also free for an interpretive talk.

Seaside paved with cobblestones and with ladders every 50m to enable entry into the sea. There is plenty of shade and space in the park under the pine trees. Very good for urban beach, but there are far more beatiful swimming spots outside the city.

Very beautiful Roman ruins of a theatre in the heart of Trieste. It has been very well preserved and as I understand, it’s still under construction excavation. As there’s still more to be worked on and discovered. It’s a lovely part of town with lots to do and see in and around the area. I would definitely recommend checking it out.

This theater was built almost 2000 years ago, but it was recognized under the ground only in 1938. When you visit Trieste you must see this historical place. It is an amazing building and you don't need to pay for walking there. 10 minutes walking from the main square

We stumbled across this Roman Theatre on our way from a parking garage. Not 1 person was paying attention and we felt a bit weird standing on the street and photographing it but it’s totally awesome. Very well preserved 👏

5 minutes away from the main square you will find this ancient amphitheater. There’s not much to do around, but it worths the visit.

Breathtaking impression - it is 1st century BC or older - so it is Roman Republic times, long before Rome became an Empire. It feels like on a date with Chronos. Neckless Time...

Impressive ancient Roman ruins that has been carefully wardened off and preserved. The ruins are right on the edge of the main street and can be easily accessed for good viewing.

When you explore town and accidently find a roman theatre in pretty good condition. I guess there is more to Trieste than shopping.

Pretty, but I wish there was a small museum attached where I could learn more of the history and it was all locked up when I was there so I could only view it from the sidewalk and park.

Good food and honest prices. Grill chicken and fried artichokes are super delicious.

Great local food, I’m originally from Trieste but I live abroad. It was a very pleasant surprise to find the typical local food cooked to perfection like my mom would do if not better (sorry mom!) Very attentive and friendly staff. Prices are good too and portions generous. Ok the decor is a bit outdated but it actually gives character. I will definitely go back next time I’m in town!

Simply home away from home. Typical food from Carso in a homie atmosphere. Love the garden for the good season where kids can play and have fun. Owners and staff are very nice and always with a smile.

It is hard to find a restaurant that is not a pizzaria on Mondays in the neighborhood, but we found this. Did not dissapoint! Very friendly, and was great pasta. Cosy seat in the garden.

If you don't speak Italien, and tell them (in italien (: ) you get a private english guide for free if he is available. It is great if you are interested in history and the guide was motivated.

The non-profit Museum is run by a small group of VOLUNTEERS (some are retired and some are still working) so IT IS NOT OPEN DAILY. The Museum is open only by appointment for large groups Mon-Fri writing an email some months/weeks before the required date to kleineberlin@cat.ts.it and wait for a reply. The Museum is open to public each LAST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH: 17.30-19.30 and 20.00-22.00. Booking your visit in advance is mandatory sending and email containing name, surname and number of visitors. This ALWAYS WRITTEN ON THE DOOR, on FACEBOOK or reported in previous comments here or on Tripadvisor. There is a maximum number of visitor allowed to each tour due to the echo and spaces. Please avoid to leave us negative feedbacks for finding the Museum closed. The tour in English is available ONLY during the last Friday of the month, both tours. Thank you.

Even though tours are organized every last Friday of the month only, after writing an email to Lucio, he made sure I could join a tour during my stay in Trieste (which included the second Friday of the month). A 2-hour tour was 5 EUR only. Lucio and Maurizio are clearly passionate about what they do (it's exclusively volunteer work, not even funded by the city of Trieste!) and have a plethora of interesting information to share with guests - about Trieste and the German occupation, WWII, speleology, etc. This was one of the most interesting things I did in Trieste during my stay and I couldn't recommend Lucio and Maurizio more.

Interesting piece of history about the second world war in Trieste. The volunteers are very passionate about what they do and don't believe Maurizio when he says that his English is bad!

Very interesting historical place run by fabulous volunteers who freely give their time to show us the craziness of war. Lots of historical pictures, objects and descriptions.

For the lovers of 20th century history a must-do. The volunteer are friendly and engaging. We’ve learned a lot about the history of the city during WWII.

Is a sad place but trascuread area

My wife and I made a plan for the trip to Italy a few months before the trip. we will visit Trieste, Venice and Verona. We determined the more detailed directions of the trip during the trip. We planned to leave Pula for Trieste on the same day around midnight. we arrived around 1 am, Trieste was beautiful with surprising liveliness at that late hour. We parked under the lighthouse not knowing where we were. imagine the scene when I got out of the car in the middle of the night and looked up. a beautiful lighthouse, which still works after so many years and emits its light in the darkness of the night .... exalted...

I was really looking forward to visiting the Victory Light in Trieste, as it looked beautiful from the outside. However, I was disappointed to find out that it was closed when I visited. It's frustrating that it's only open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This limited schedule doesn't seem to prioritize tourists who might want to explore the attraction during the week. The lack of accessibility definitely impacted my experience and perception of the municipality's attention to tourism. Hopefully, the opening hours can be extended to offer a better experience for visitors.

Stunning view, cozy place. It was closed, actually, but I managed to make some photos of the faro itself:) The area it stands on is very cozy. It is a real Italian town as I imagined it: narrow streets, cute houses and a view of a gulf.

Don't try to walk to the top if you're out of shape, it's higher than you think. There's a small elevator that will take you to the top. The entrance is free. The view from the top is absolutely beutiful. The guide was very friendly and explained the history of the monument and answered all the questions we had.

Beautiful view- one of the best in Trieste. For now enter into the lighthouse is free and working only the main stage. But it still very beautiful. You can get there by public bus #42 and #44.

Very nice view towards the whole bay area. Climbing the stairs takes a few minutes and a few extra breaths, but it is worth it when you feel the breeze on top. Tour is limited to only 15 minutes, but that's almost enough :)

Iconic place in Trieste. Put it on the list of places you must visit while in Trieste. It offers a nice view or city. It's easy to get buy car or by bus which literally leaves almost in front of the entrance. It's free on August (I'm glad I went).

Parking is limited on the street with a walk up however there is a free elevator up. big enough for two. i do not believe it is wheelchair accessible due to the elevators size

It's an historical sign of this great Austro Hungarian city..if you are impaired they have a lift to the top with a small step though...you can avoid the 320 stairs also if you just want to..free entry is always good and if you arrive at 3pm, just on the afternoon opening hour, you get a 20 min guided tour with lots of information!

This is a great place with an amazing view. You need to go up aboit 250 stairs but when you get to the top you know it is totally worth it. You can also go up by lift but only 2-3 people can use it at a time. A staff member of the tower comes with you to the top. There are binoculars at the top so you can look at the entire triest from up there. The view is great and the tower look magestik.
