Dubrovnik itself is a wonderful place, because it has a subtle uniqueness that distinguishes it from other places around the world. Therefore, it was registered as World Heritage Site. We can see well-preserved Roman era structures and buildings, especially in the castle town, residents actually live there. By walking along the castle wall road, we can see look closely the entire city, its structure, and the structure of buildings, but we can look the Adriatic Sea, and it's about 2 kilometers. And the sunset of Adriatic Sea is fantastic.

The 'must do' thing when you are in Dubrovnik. On a good day you can see for miles from the top of the walls and it is probably the best place to view the old city buildings from. There are really nice views of Fort Lovrijenac from the walls and you can spot lots of Game of Thrones filming locations from them. Highly recommended and don't forget that the price includes a visit to Lovrijenac as well.

Beautiful scenery - it shows you the true glory of Dubrovnik. We went during a rainy day and even then it was still gorgeous. Lots of little cafes along the way with toilets (which we used to hide out in during the heavy rain!)

Walking the city walls is a great way to explore the old town. Its hot work, we set out early and it took just short of 2 hours to stroll around. There are many steps and uneven paths as would be expected of an old fortress wall. An essential activity during your visit to Dubrovnik. Approx €35 each, but under 18’s pay half price.

Beautiful views of Dubrovnik, this is really something you must do here. It’s a shame that the only way to visit the walls is by buying the Dubrovnik Pass, which costs 35 euros each and gets you into a lot of museums too, but which you may not want to go to too. But I suppose you have to look at the high fee as a contribution to keeping the walls in good condition for years to come. However it also means you can’t really go on and off the walls, you have to do it all in one circuit or you’d have to pay again.

The walls are a must do it you are visiting Dubrovnik. It takes about 1.5-2.5 hours to complete as per your place. The views are just fantastic. Wear comfortable shoes. There are a few places to grab something to eat and drink. The wall ticket also gives access to Fort Lorijenac for a duration of 3 days so don't throw it away. The ticket costs 250 HRK. Came to know later that the Dubrovnik card costs 250 HRK and it covers the wall and a bunch of other places so please do check that out first. Best to do first thing in the morning to avoid crowds. Sunset is also a good time for great views

The walls of Dubrovnik are iconic, no doubt, but are they worth 35 Euro per person or almost $40? I'm not sure about that. As glamorous as it sounds, walking the walls is not that pleasant. There is no shade up there whatsoever, and the views, though initially stunning, quickly become repetitious, and in concert with the heat, they turn to old news as you start searching for shade, water and eventually the exit. I, for one, did not finish the circuit and bowed out before the heat stroke had the chance to do me in.

Lovely scenery from walls. Costs 35 Euro per person. We have been there with one 6yrs old and one 2.5yrs old, also our foldable stroller was with us. It was not too easy with stroller because you need to carry a lot. If you have foldable and light weight stroller, you can take it with you. The easiest way to start is from Maritime Museum, less steps and easy to climb up. Rest of the entrances have more and steep steps. It is one way walk, and you do not have to take round tour. We left the walls from Pile gate.

An incredible experience! Would recommend everyone to do it. There are roughly 1000 steps and the distance is approximately 2 kilometres but don't let that fool you, it is a serious workout. They advised that it should take an hour but it took us double that doing it with two small children. In the end the kids were exhausted and we were not able to visit the fort (the City walls entrance ticket allows you access to the nearby Fort Lovrijenac). Would advise to start early in the day if you're visiting in the summer as it gets quite hot post 11am.

Great view of the whole city. 35 Euros is a fair amount, but if you're interested in doing something else too (like visiting the fortress outside the walls which is 15 euros on its own) then it makes the price much more justified. There are breaks for food and drinks along the 2.1k walk. Lots of steep stairs, be a bit careful if you don't like heights. Amazing though, definitely recommend as an activity.

A must visit in Dubrovnik and where all the tourist crowds descend. Best to buy tickets online and an entry through the main gates which is a GOT famous spot takes one to the steps to go up and start the 2 km walk on the city walls. The walls are intact with sufficient walking space for the crowds and various view points inside the fortress walls and outside. We visited in October and it was still packed with crowds. There are a few exit points if you don't want to do the full walk but I recommend a full walk and maybe even a second round to take in some of the views missed. After completing the walks you can always get something to drink or eat in one of the many places within the fortress. Be prepared for crowds and for those that need potty breaks there are toilets at least one halfway through the walk. Must visit for all tourists

Dubrovnik old town is stunning and walking the walls enjoying the beautiful views and the history was such a lovely experience. We did it on 14th October so it was not at it's busiest, or most expensive at €35 per person. You will need to be mobile and able to manage steep and numerous steps to do this walk. I highly recommend it.

Well worth the 35 euros entry fee. The views of the old town and port are stunning (much better than the funicular). Enter the walls at the main gate to the old city and walk the circumference of the city. It is not wheelchair accessible. The walk includes some stair climbing but is relatively easy.

In my opinion it was worth every penny (1 x adult ticket costs 35€), because the view from each point of the old city wall was amazing and wonderful! Stairs are in a very good condition and you always have the possibility to rest for a while and enjoy the fabulous buildings and old architecture as well as the sea 🌊!

The only way to see Dubrovnik’s true glory! The views are amazing! It takes about 2 hours to get around the whole of old town! There are stops and cafés to sit and relax along the way! Its 35 euros per person, which is expensive but it is worth it!

I recommend you purchase a City Pass. It is 35 euro and you can visit not only the City Walls, but also some Museums and the Fortress. The view from the walls is simply amazing. You should enter from the main entrance, although there are other entrances. Once you enter, go up and make left, because that is the one way sense. If you purchase paper tickets, make sure you keep them, because you have to present them along the way, due to the other entrances. Also, if you want to avoid the crowds, go early in the morning. We started the tour early after 8 AM and around 10, when we finished, it was a huge line of people waiting to get in. Do not forget to wear confortable shoes, a hat and have water with you. You can drink water from the fountain at the main entrance and you can put water from there in your bottles. It will surely help, especially if you visit the walls during the hot summer. For example, there were 30 C degrees at 8 AM.

We waited until sunset and the views were spectacular. No queue’s getting up and down. The cable car takes about 5 minutes to get to the top. Lots of viewing spots. We got a cocktail in the restaurant while it got dark and the views are just as amazing at night. Worth the ticket price.

This is an absolute great experience top to bottom. This would be a 5 star review but.... two things, first they have one person printing tickets, that person could not process enough tickets between cars to fill the cars to capacity, thus a line. Second the person is printing a 3 part paper boarding pass and credit card reciept for each group of 2. Not green at all, very wasteful use of paper and trees. As for the experience... great, the viee is amazing, and the gondolas are fast and clean. Try to get a front or back row seat so you get a full view!

The cable cars go often an the ride up is very quick. I would recommend getting the tickets in one of the official sellers such as information points to skip the queue while you're there. The price is about £10 one way. We hiked down but that seemed quite dangerous so would probably recommend taking the return ticket. The views from the top are amazing, especially the sunset.

There is really nice view to the whole Dubrovnik especially to the Old Town. PS. You can also travel to the mountain with taxi and it's lot cheaper. Really great views when you get to the top. There's a gift shop and toilets in the centre at the top. Tickets cost €27 for a return trip. The best place to buy tickets is at the little booth where you queue for the cable car. The booth accepts cash and card. I can't remember if you get discount with the Dubrovnik Pass but worth asking. There was another place that sold tickets, kind of in an underpass store, but they added an extra fee on top, so I wouldn't recommend buying it from there.

Great experience whilst in Dubrovnik. Fantastic views from the top. There is a restaurant at the top, toilets and seating. Smooth ride both ways. Staff are helpful and friendly. You can buy your tickets at the entrance. If you buy them at the other booth on the way up, they add €2 for service charge per ticket.

You MUST do this in Dubrovnik, especially if you have limited mobility like myself. It's the best way to see the most upon arrival. We arrived by cruise ship and needed to walk a short distance to the cable car entrance (just a small ways past the walled city entrance - e.g. GOT filming area). There's no need to buy tickets in advance or through shore excursion travel agencies, as it is readily available at the kiosk at the Cable Car entrance and is usually much cheaper on site. You buy a RT ticket and it's a short ride up. Once up there are shops, restaurants, and several look out areas including a large Christian Cross... I'm not sure what this area is called, sorry. We took pictures and just sat up there and enjoyed the view. Nearby there's an area to rent 4x4 ATVs for tours... we aren't the adventurous type, nor were we in the season, but it is an option. Enjoy the views and take it all in.

Great experience! The views are amazing and you have plenty of time to enjoy them, despite the journey being only 4-5 minutes. The car can rock a bit from time to time but it’s incredibly well maintained and safe. It did seem a little ridiculous when buying tickets that we were charged 2€ extra as a “transactional fee”, probably just a way of ramping the price up. Tickets are the same price online as they are in person so buy them however you prefer to. The views from the car and from the top of the mountain warrant the price however.

We did the cable car up to the most gorgeous view of Dubrovnik from the highest viewpoint in the area ,it wax a short ride up maybe 5 minutes and smoothe ride ( not scary) would recommend!

Stunning, no other way to put it. We went up right before sunset (as that was recommended to us by a friend) and it was worthwhile. There is a lovely view once you get off the cable car but the best view can be seen by walking out from the little visitor area to the left. If you go down the dirt road to the end, you have arguably the best view of Dubrovnik. While there is a closer path/view, the one we had allowed for an unobstructed, breathtaking view. There also is an option to go off road quad riding, which would have been fun as well. We went as the last tour of the day was wrapping up and we would have considered doing this, had we known about it before hand. We were able to buy our tickets from the counter at the bottom of the cable car without needing to do it in advance. I believe this would only work during “off peak” (we went in late May) and perhaps it would be worth booking ahead of time during peak season (June-August).

It's a one in a lifetime activity for the city, a must I could say, with breathtaking view from the top of the hill and during the uphill - downhill journey. The only negative part is the very high pricing policy, with neither reasonable graduation, nor family tickets options (from 7€/up to 12y they charge 27€/12+y).

Not worth the ticket. The views from the top aren't good because they are obstructed by the cables. Alternative: take the bus 17 to Bosanka (last stop), walk 1 km following the same road the bus came from. You will find an easily recognizable rocky spot with the best views, for a fraction of the cost.

Beautiful small island with green nature. You can go there by boat from Dubrovnik for a couple of euros. You can spend there a half of the day in that beauty. You can walk, swim in the sea (with high salinity), and sit relaxed in the open caffe. There are also a couple of restaurants there if you are hungry.

If you're tired of summer crowds in Dubrovnik, take a 15 min ferry to Lokrum island as an escape. Once there, make sure to locate this hidden gem of a natural wonder: The hole in the (rock) wall. Rocky beach with excellent swimming and snorkeling opportunity is right there as well...

Absolutely stunning island filled with beautiful peacocks 🦚. The wildlife there is very unique and the peacocks around the island and show off. There is an iron throne there that’s s great photo spot. Highly recommend!

It is a beautiful island and you can easily spend half a day or even a full day there. There are beach access points, nice hike to the fort with trails around it, a “Dead Sea”, few nice gardens, beach volleyball next to some beach outdoor gym style equipment and other sights to check out including for GOT fans. The only downside I found is the entrance ticket of 150 HRK per person (~€20) to be quiet high. Plus 50 HRK for round trip boat ride. You can pay the entrance ticket by card at the island and just pay the boat by cash at Dubrovnik port. There are a few restaurants/cafés in the island as well.

Loved it. Well worth the trip. It cost 200kn to take the boat there from Dubrovnik old port, and then another 200kn on the island to enter the nature reserve. There are restaurants, peacocks, beautiful scenery and places to swim from as well as a nudist beach there. And don't forget the Iron Throne.

Beautiful natural island, just a short board ride away from Dubrovnik. There are quite a few things to do and see here such as the Monastery, Botanical Gardens, Dead Sea Lake and Castle on the hill. It's full of lovely flowers, plants, trees and rugged coastlines. Plenty of space to relax by the sea, in the sun or in the shade. Also lots of places to eat and drink. The island has lots of wild peacocks and bunnies everywhere (we even saw some baby peacocks while we were there). If you buy the Dubrovnik Pass then you can get discounts on the boat ticket.

Gorgeous Island! The second we stepped off the boat we saw peacocks! There are places to get food and drink while there so you don't need to work if you forget. There are maps dotted about and the trails are easy to follow. We were there for around 2.5-3 hours and we walked around the left side of the island then up to the highest point. There are so many beautiful sights you have to see it for yourself! A surreal and beautiful place to visit and you can get the ferry right by the old town.

Went for a day out to Lokrum Island where we went hiking and nature swimming which was lovely. The prices had increased from when I had researched this activity online, it cost HRK 400 for two people which was quite steep but did include boat travel to the island and entry to the national park. Ultimately we didn’t mind the cost as the money is used to maintain Dalmatia’s national parks. The park was very beautiful with lots of very friendly peacocks. We loved swimming both in the sea and the salt lake and hiked over the entire island. The central hub of the island was very busy as I think it is where most tourists stay when they arrive, otherwise a great day out.

A short boat ride from Dubrovnik, Lokrum Island is a nature lover's paradise. Stepping foot on the island felt like entering a fairytale. Exploring the medieval ruins and swimming in the Dead Sea lake were unforgettable experiences.

Such a beautiful place! Return boat trip was €27 from dubrovnik. it took about 15 mins to get there. We went for a walk through the botanical gardens and were greeted by lots of peacocks roaming around freely. The monastery complex was full of history. We waited about 2 mins in the queue to take pictures in the Game of thrones Throne. We then went to the sea and had a quick dip. The water was extremely clean and clear and there were lots of showers nearby to rinse off in. Unfortunately it started to rain really badly so we were stuck as the boats don't run if the weather is bad!! Luckily the rain passed after an hour and we made our way back to the mainland. I would recommend bringing your own food/drinks as its expensive on the island.

The Island is wonderful, a little part of paradise. But It Is a trap for tourists! It Is called natural park and ok, you can pay 27€ for person to go in, but It isn't a natural park: lounge bars, music, restaurants are there, where for a cocktail you can pay 16€!!!! In Croatian there is not idea how manage the new currency.

We took the water taxi from Mlini to Lokrum and then you pay to visit at the visitors centre. The island has some beautiful areas to see, such as the hole in the rocks formation, the gardens, and the Dead Sea, which was amazing to take a swim in . For Game of Thrones fans, the Iron Throne is in the old monetary to sit in for a photo. Plenty to see and do .The prices in the bars are a little steep mind , but the island is definitely worth a visit.

I visited Lokrum in May of 2017 so the weather was perfect. It was fairly inexpensive for the ferry to the UNESCO protected island. There is a natural pool and also various perfect spots to swim in the Adriatic. There's a beautiful old Benedictine monastery and plenty of trails to go hiking. If you want an inexpensive visit, I would recommend packing a lunch and having it there. And of course. there is permanent Game of Thrones exhibit, the Iron Throne and the island itself was a filming location for Qarth. I would definitely recommend going even for the non-GoT fans.

Lokrum island is a nice place to take some rest from crowded old city. You can feed peacocks, walk through the island or rest near to little lake with beautiful water colour. Ferry ticket is not cheapm so you must consider whether trip for maximum 4-5 hours is worth that price.

Quiet island 30 min away from the old town by ferry. Game of Thrones filmed here and the Throne they used was displayed here inside the monastery. You can take a photo sit in the throne like a king. It’s a big island and lots of places you can get in the water to swim. It has big flat rocks near the shore you can enjoy just laying there and Soak up the vitamin D. There were lots of peacocks on the island. But I didn’t see they have beautiful big tails tho. It was relaxing to walk around and sit at that little bar to chill out.

A beautiful island that is easily accessible by water taxi from Dubrovnik. Tickets can be purchased online or at the harbour, and this charge includes your entry fee to the island. There are plenty of scenic walking trails, as well as a botanical garden and old monastery, which has been updated inside to include history and information on the island as well as details of GOT filming and a replica of the infamous iron throne. We also visited the ‘dead sea’ area and whilst it wasn’t as salted as expected to float easily, it was still a lovely spot to cool off at the end of the day. If would probably be very overcrowded during peak season. We also enjoyed a cocktail whilst waiting on the next taxi and felt that the prices were quite reasonable for being on an island. Important to note that the last taxi back is at 6pm. We found that between 4-4.30pm had the busiest queues leaving the island as many people were trying to get back to their cruise ship. Much less busier after this time.

So much to see and do on this island. Totally worth the €27 fee. - beautiful botanical gardens - game of thrones museum including photo op opportunities. - beautiful beaches with easy access to water including the FKK Rocks. Like all other Croatian beaches, bring your swim shoes. Quick tip; if you have the 3 day Dubrovnik Pass, you get 20% off your ticket to Lokrum.

As emotive and good quality the photos are, I feel the way the venue is set up could be better in order to really get the stories across and really pull you in a bit more. There is an app you can use to give yourself a self guided tour but I don't think this is conducive to a fully immersive experience. I recommend giving yourself enough time to browse in here as there is a huge volume of content.

I hated it but I think that's what you're supposed feel after seeing this. Just one thing.... I'd like to see more local photography than international. But I'd highly recommend this.

Powerful, striking photography. This is quite a disturbing and difficult experience. The civil war photographs are particularly striking because of the recency if the conflict. It made me think that the children in the war scene photographs were probably amongst the people in the streets outside. So, it is a shocking but important reminder of war. The closeness of the war images of the civil war make the other photographs from conflicts around the world much more harrowing than they might be if you encountered them in a different context. The photographs of child soldiers in Africa and the photographs of refugees in Myanmar are particularly emotive. The dramatic and thought provoking nature of the exhibition content make the quality of the photography seem secondary but that is just a reflection of the photographers' skills. The photography is quite brilliant and there are some compositions which are stunning in their technical genius. This is an exhibition which should not be missed for so many reasons. It is probably too harrowing for younger children but, apart from the quality of the photography, it is a powerful and evocative use of art.

A sobering but necessary part of any visit to Dubrovnik. As the name of the museum suggests, this is a museum exhibiting war photography from some of the world’s most fearless war photographers. Downstairs are revolving exhibitions, and upstairs there’s a permanent collection which displays images from the Balkan conflicts of the 1990s. Though the images are harrowing, this is a visceral and challenging way to learn more about the Balkan conflicts, and discover the human tragedy behind news headlines. I thoroughly recommend stopping by.

Sobering experience that should not be missed. The selection of photos from the Jugoslavian war, Ukraine and various other conflicts. A good level of detail provided on each photo and should be taken in and absorbed in order to get the full effect.

Located down a narrow side street in the Old Town, this is a very informative and moving exhibition of war photos. The permanent exhibition is about the various Balkan conflicts and at the moment (May 2023) there is also a temporary exhibition about the war in Ukraine. Loan guidebooks are available that explain the photographs. There is also a voucher on their website for a 10% discount off the admission charge. Note that they do not have any toilet facilities.

On the one hand it’s a great selection of war photos, on the most important subject, and a good source of reflection on what happened in former Yugoslavia and what has been going on in Ukraine for almost ten years now. On the other hand, it’s pricey, and and obvious cash grab on the war that went over Dubrovnik three decades ago. I didn’t like some chaos in the exhibition e.g. photos from Vukovar siege of 1991 in Bosnian war 1993 section. I think that despite declarations the role of Croats in this war was not fully explained.

It's not easy to write a review of a museum dedicated to such a difficult topic as war. However, we found that the museum managed it really well - no belittling, but also no unnecessary emotional overload. The basement contains photos from the war in Ukraine, the upper level is dedicated to the violent end of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. The pictures do not hide any of the horrors of war and were very moving. It is so important to remind everyone that despite all different viewpoints and beliefs there are no winners in war. Just desolation and pain.

Very large gallery, which affects and excites. Talk about the wars of Yemen, Yugoslavia and Kosovo. The museum is easily accessible: it is located in the street next to the entrance to the walls and is well signposted. Absolutely worth a visit!

Nice fort to visit when in Dubrovnik. The entrance is included when you pay for the wall walk. The fort was used many time in the firing of Game of Thrones and can be spotted often in the TV series. On a good day you can see for miles from the top and it is probably the best place to view the old city walls from.

The fort is really beautiful, it has old time charms and game of thrones vibes. The view from every corner is breathtaking. We went in summer when it was very hot and crowded so couldn't stay here for longer but definitely a must visit place for anyone who goes to Dubrovnik.

The fort has fantastic views of the Adriatic sea and of Dubrovnik old Town. The entry to this fort is covered in Dubrovnik card as well as the wall ticket. If you are doing a GOT tour then they will bring you here.

Perfect spot to see most of Dubrovnik and the walls of the old Town. You must have the city pass entrance ticket (150Kn pp) but it is worth it for what you get access to. There is a fair amount of stair climbing but nothing too strenuous. Probably the best place in Dubrovnik for views.

Entering the walls is something that is definitely worth a lot. The views are BEAUTIFUL, the sea, the walls, the vegetation... Basically a perfect combination. Also if you are a student (and bring a student card) the entrance is only €5 so it is very cheap. Whether you are a fan of the Game of Thrones or not, it is an experience that you can't miss.

A fantastic fortress, located in a beautiful city, on one of the most beautiful seas. The driveway itself is unreal. You will have the opportunity to sit in the cafe garden right on the coast, enjoy the unique view, before or after visiting the fortress itself. It may not be wise to go with small children, but they will enjoy it too, if you can be sure that it is safe for them.

Amazing experience on the outside of the walls and on the inside during a walking tour. We were fortunate enough to be the only two on the tour with our guide Marco, who was a local that lived inside the city walls. Marco gave us the history of the wall and answered each question we had in depth. Very nice walk around the fort around 5000 steps on a fit bit.

Nice place views are great the Fort is the best attraction and can walk at top. The locals do try to hike prices up for tourists as you can hear them a different price for locals for the same product, which knocks a star off. Queues can be long even with tickets, so best to get them in advance.

Wow, that's a hike! Take water, wear good shoes. Athletic shoes work but I am sorry I didn't have hiking boots to protect my ankles.

We visited the Fort on day 2. Great views from the top. Just be aware that the fort can host events so has days / times when it can be closed to the public.

I came up here after I knocked out the city walls walk with my Dubrovnik pass. It is up a few stairs so not super easy but worth doing to see this old fort and the awesome views.

This is a great place to spend a sunny day and it is a must to enjoy the sunset at least once at Sunset Beach in Lapad. Lots of food options in the promenade or local hotels and at the DOC centre, good shopping spot with large grocery store, DM, a bakery, restaurants, and cafes. The best part is walking from Orsan to Sunset beach even all the way to the Palace Hotel for an amazing seawall and beach experience in the heart of Dubrovnik! Best swimming option in the area with a variety of free and paid for experiences.

Lovely place near old town and Gruž Lapad is a large peninsula (not an island ! as some websites claim) situated just outside of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, on its Western side (check its location on the map). The distance to the airport is about 22 kilometres (14 miles approx) and to the Old Town is about 4 km (2.5 miles). Getting there: To reach the peninsula from the Old City you can take a bus from Pile Station  – Libertas bus number 2, number 6 or 4 (see a map of public transport). The ride takes anything between 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the area of the suburb you are going to.

Nice place to sit after all the walking you have to do. Added bonus there is a view of a stone where people try a stunt so can be quite entertaining.

A series of fountains actually right inside the main gate. You can fill up your bottle with cool and crisp water or simple refresh yourself from the hot Dubrovnik summers. I was glad to have this nice oasis and the water tasted sweet and fresh! I would say one of the cooler water of city!

Just inside the city walls of old town from the Pile side, its a beautiful fountain. Water coming from a local river, one of the shortest in the world. Water here is fine to drink, so fill up your water bottles here !

One of the 6 ancient pure water wells for the Old Town, only 2 are left. Right next to Pile gate. In the morning a Franciscan monk comes out to feed the pigeons. After your trip and ice cream you can wash your hands and face here and fill up your water bottle.

Beautiful fountain! Wonderfully chilled and fresh water which you can drink or freshen up with. We were in Dubrovnik on a Wednesday afternoon, 30°+ heat and very busy (as it always is) - yet - it was easy to get a sitting spot on the fountain as people usually rest for a short time only, like we did. I am Italian and my surname literally means "of the family Onofrio" 😃

A strange, covered fountain. Basically a water dispenser with a bunch of spouts. Not that scenic, but made famous by instagrammers and you tubers. Good news is that the water coming out of the spouts is potable and free.

Interesting fountain with clean flowing drinkable water. The fountain was named after the person who designed it, Onofrio della Cava from Naples. The design of the fountain is intricate. Very beautiful. This is one of Onofrio’s fountain, the other one is a small Onofrio fountain.

We organised smaller vans to take us up to the view point because our tour bus could not make it up the windy narrow roads. The breathtaking views were definitely worth the trouble.

- Great place to soak in the sunset, one side hills and other side the sea with a great view of Dubrovnik around - hour long hike on loose rocks and stairs - 5-10 mins by cable car, can be reached by car as well - Suggestion is to go there 30 mins before sunset and stay until the city lights come up. It looks great. - Be aware of the cable car situation, sometimes it's closed for heavy winds/bad weather. So, plan your trip up & down with that in mind.

Srd is a mountain just behind the walled city of Dubrovnik, in Dalmatia, Croatia. Its height is 412 metres, the top of which is adorned with "Fort Imperial", built in 1806-1816 during the Napoleonic Wars. From its top the walled city of Dubrovnik, Island of Lokrum, Adriatic Sea and various local attractions can be seen. Srđ was once forested with oak trees which locals called dubrava, after which the city of Dubrovnik was named. The southern slope was once rich with pine forests, but in the second half of the 20th century and during the war in numerous fires, the forest was almost completely gutted. This mountain was home to one of the fiercest battles of the 1991-1995 Croatian War.

Our stop in Dubrovnik was truly special, and the views spectacular, and there's no better view from above in Dubrovnik than Mount Srd. Accessible by hike (which I would not recommend as the path is poorly maintained and very uncomfortable underfoot) or by cable car, Mount Srd offers breathtaking views of the Old City, the crystal clear Adriatic Sea, and the numerous islands. After taking in the view we felt the desire for a bit of adventure and decided to book onto a Buggy Safari tour with Dubrovnik Buggy Adventure - a 35 minute off-road tour taking you through the mountain and woodland finishing with more astounding 360° views. The tour is at a cost of €40 per person; however, if you have the time and the stamina, you're able to access the viewpoints on foot.

It is not worth the walk from my perspective. Just go to the restaurant in the top of this mountain and it will all be good.

Took the cable car up to Srd overlooking Dubrovnik. Great views of the city, coast and islands. Food and drink are a little expensive but they have a captive audience. Nice little gift shop there as well.

One of the most beautiful hikes with a wonderful payoff. It can be a bit challenging but it is nice zig zag worth the effort. There is a very moving war museum at the top and so many picturesque views.

You can drive or take the cable car up there, but the hike wasn't bad at all as the trail is not steep at all. However, there are a lot of loose rocks so proper footwear is recommended.

What a stunning building. The architecture was beautiful with bold staircase leading you to the first floor with hands holding the bannister The rooms had lots of old furniture showing the history of the building. Visit the dungeon with it's thick walls, bars on windows. A fully furnished bedroom is another room that stood out A display showing the history of shipping in Dubrovnik was there. Plus a very moving photography exhibit showing Dubrovnik and the destruction during the Croatian Independence War which started in 1991. Definitely worth visiting and if you purchase the Dubrovnik Pass you can get into all the majority attractions free.

My top choice palace/museum in Dubrovnik. Today the Gothic- Renaissance Palace had been turned into the Cultural History Museum with artfully restored rooms, portraits, coats of arms and coins. Beautiful interior with finely carved capitals on the exterior columns and the ornate staircase in the atrium.

Nice museum in an old Dubrovnik palace. Plenty to see about the history of the city and how it worked centuries ago, laws, politics, prison cells etc. Upstairs there are objects and paintings from the period. Plus (in Sept 2022) an exhibition of excellent photos from the Serbian bombing in 1991, very sad and evocative. Good labelling in English, and there's a free app too. Make sure you get a Dubrovnik Pass (this site is included) or else you'll be paying over the odds on your ticket.

The museum was larger than I thought it would be. The dungeon war really interesting to see and I really enjoyed the installment of photos from the Homeland War. What we didn't like: you were supposed to download an app as a guide. We didn't know we would have to bring headphones. Although you can read what is being said, it takes up a lot of memory space and isn't very easy to use. I ended up giving up on it and just reading the signs on the walls.

Here is located the Kulturno-povijesni / Cultural-Historical Musem. Interesting museum but it's lacking history. Go first to Konavle Heritage Museum. The stuff is rube.

Visited here using the Dubrovnik Pass (300 KN for 3 day pass) Excellent place to visit with many very interesting exhibits including the dungeon and many art works. Also lots of interesting artefacts and accounts of the history of Dubrovnik, in particular the photography exhibition of the 1990’s war period. The building itself is also stunning, beautiful ceilings and architecture with lovely views of the bustling city outside.

Lovely exterior - a rare original - with an equally impressive central courtyard. Many historical items - like two green men (from the clock tower, which struck the bell on the hour) and even the "octopus". Plenty of paintings and furniture to admire. A (wine cellar?) space is used to display pictures taken during the Homeland war, showing Debrovnik in flames. Thrpuhhput the palace are nifty augmented reality displays: scan the qr code to download the app. I admired the bottle-bottom windows that played with the sunlight. Free admission with the Dubrovnik Pass.

Beautiful palace in the heart of Dubrovnik old town, which is included in the Dubrovnik pass. Definitely one of the locations you won't want to miss as it's full with beautiful and interesting historical objects and paintings. The architectural aspects of the building are incredibly interesting too, so there's something for everyone to see. One bit I feel gets missed by a lot of people is the dungeon/prison section, which I would recommend trying, even just for a minute. The sense of foreboding I got from just standing there was very intense, definitely not a place you'd want to be locked up!

A palace in the old city of Dubrovnik that used to be the seat of the Rector of the republic. It served also as an armoury and a prison. There is an entrance fee but if you buy the daily Dubrovnik pass this monument is included. Built initially in a Gothic style has also other renaissance elements and from time to time it was partially renovated. During our visit there was also an exhibition near by of paintings and photos of those who fought and died in the war for the city’s freedom 30 years ago. A must see attraction in Dubrovnik.

If u ever visit the old town of Dubrovnik this place it's a must Very organized with a lot of cool stuff and detailed information about everything that's exposed here.

Enjoyed my visit, and appreciated learning more about the war and Dubrovnik. Beautiful view, and historical setting. Plenty of free parking, but tricky drive to get there with narrow roads and two way traffic. The limited focus of the exhibit on the conflict itself - without additional info about the background details, historical factors, motivations of different parties, etc. - left me confused about the causes of the conflict. So I'm eager to learn more, but I think the exhibition could enhance their impact by offering deeper details and a more robust overview of Croatian independence and following war.

It’s a wonderful time visiting a place that's perfect for history enthusiasts.Getting an early start and purchasing cable car tickets in advance are great tips to make the most of your visit without waiting in long queues. The combination of history, cable car experience, and photography is quite an experience and need good 2 hours back and forth.

I strongly recommend visiting this museum for anyone coming to Dubrovnik. It is informative and eye opening to see and understand what the people here have experienced and endured. Croatia is so much more than beautiful beaches. Please take the time to come here. It’s truly worth it.

If you decide to go up mount Srd, be sure to check out the Homeland War Museum. Particularly if you are into war history, or have local links to the area. It's incredibly informative. Some of the exhibits really hit home, being one of the most recent wars in Europe, and very much alive in many of the local peoples memories. Fort Imperial itself is interesting without the recent history being a Napoleonic fortress. Possibly due to the bombardment during the war in the 90's the roof does leak, which adds to the feel of being in the place that has seen history unfold before it. Before you go: the museum is cash only: €4 per person, and is not included in the Dubrovnik pass.

Beautiful views. But the real value is gaining perspective on the atrocities Croatians endured. It is unbelievable to see the tragedy wrought on Dubrovnik, because there are so few signs of all the devastation only 30 or so years later.

We visited this museum five years ago. It is housed in an old Fort high up above the city the museum and provides an insightful retelling of the land attack on Dubrovnik by the Yugoslav army troops, from a clearly Croation viewpoint. Various rooms tell of the defence of the city by a handful of men. A highlight of our trip to the city. If you wish to use the cable car to get up to it I would certainly recommend waiting until the afternoon when all the cruise ships have left so the queues are much shorter.

Although nothing mind blowing is on display (guns, munitions, helmets, clothing and various other memorabilia used during the defence of the Imperial Fort) I quite enjoyed this museum. An English language documentary (definitely recommend watching the whole thing if you have the time) plays in one of the halls and shows live footage of the shelling of Dubrovnik and the Imperial Fort among other events of the Croatian War of Independence 1991-1995. Going up to the terrace you get to enjoy the best view of Dubrovnik. The shell and bullet holes on the walls are still visible. Quite an authentic experience of the events from the occupation of Dubrovnik. Cost to enter is only 30 Kuna. Go and have a history dip in the not-so-recent reshaping of the geo-political map of Europe. Recommended.

The church itself is absolutely gorgeous. We had the pleasure of attending a packed Mozart concert inside of it and the acoustics were amazing. The middle of the monastery is very peaceful, especially on a rainy day. Very calming. The museum itself is quite small but it is interesting to see the different relics. Tickets cost 6 euros a person but is also included with the Dubrovnik Pass.

The Franciscan Church of the Conventual Friars Minors (Franjevačka crkva male braće, in Croatian) is one of the most important objectives of the Old Town Dubrovnik, capital of the tiny but amazing Ragusa maritime Republic (1358-1808). The church belongs to one of the oldest Franciscan monasteries in the world. The first monastery was built outside the fortress in the 13th century, later moving inside the walls (in the space between Fort Minceta and Stradun) where it was built very hard between 1317-1360 in different architectural styles (Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance). The current Franciscan monastic complex comprises monastery, church, library and pharmacy. The pharmacy is considered the oldest (1317) active pharmacy in the world. Originally built for Franciscan monks, the role of the pharmacy extended beyond the city walls. At present it also has a museum, and from the pharmacy you can buy preparations made according to ancient Franciscan recipes. The Franciscan church forms the southern side of the monastic complex, the main door being at Stradun, the most important street of the Old Town of Dubrovnik. A tall bell tower is attached to the church, visible from afar, covered by a black dome (the color of the Conventual Friars Minors). The old church was almost completely destroyed and set on fire at the terrible earthquake of 1677. The Franciscan church was rebuilt from the ground up, but in Baroque style. From the old church, a magnificent Pietà sculpture (in Gothic style and dating back to 1498; now it adorns the portal from the entrance to the church), the pulpit and the sacristy with one of the altars are left. The interior of the church is a simple nave, having in the sanctuary a beautiful altar with the statue of the Risen Jesus framed by 4 marble columns twisted, and at the opposite end the organ dating from 1909 and decorated in Baroque style with the statues of the four evangelists. The sides of the nave have six beautiful altars, five of them being built at the end of the 17th century by Guiseppe Sardi of Venice. It is said that the beauty of the present church is however modest compared to that of the church before the earthquake, which had 21 altars decorated with gold, massive pieces of silver, paintings by Tizian, Rafael, Caravaggio, etc. The Franciscan church is currently used for classical music concerts and near it, Stradun is used for unconventional cultural events.

Nice scenery and various items on display. Think it could be improved with some information about the monastery itself as thought it was a bit lacking in that regard. Entrance fee was reasonable

Beautiful ancient monastery right in the heart of the city, also contains one of the oldest pharmacies in Croatia! Lovely little garden in the centre and cool to see all the old medicine bottles!

the entry ticket was not expensive, yet the exhibits were quite interesting. there were items from centuries ago, the oldest of which was a sarcophagus of an early Christian from around the 6th century. there was also a mark on the wall that showing where a misile shot hit the monastery wall presumably during the Croatian war of independence in 1991.

This is an interesting stop if you’ve got the Dubrovnik pass. It has quite a few relics which interesting to look at, also the pharmacy has been going for many years (practically ancient) so worth checking out.

1 of the 3 oldest pharmacies is located here. Beautiful court garden in an impressive old building. Outside you can still see the shrapnel holes in the church building originating from the 1991 Yugoslavian war...

A peaceful oasis in the centre of the old Dubrovnik walled town. (Very close to Pila gate entrance) If you have a Dubrovnik pass , it is free , if not also very less for tickets. (Think 4 euros or so) Beautiful paintings, artefacts and a bit of history . Verdict: Must visit! Won't take longer than an hour and a bit to finish tour.

Included in the Dubrovnik Day pass. Was an amazing place to walk around with its monastery artifacts on display as well as seeing the ancient pharmacy that is still running! Definitely worth a visit while in Dubrovnik, and have a beautiful centre court as well.
