Very interesting crossing point from the Greek part to the Turkish part of Nicosia.Friendly officers that check your passport on both the Greek and Turkish zones of Cyprus.It is known as the only divided capital in the world as shown above Greek Cypriot Police Checkpoint on the sign above.Very different on the Turkish part of Nicosia and hence Cyprus.Many different shops selling lot's of different brands at very cheap prices.Fascinating and intriguing being on the Turkish part of Nicosia and hence Cyprus.Only there very briefly for around 30 mins due to tight connection with Intercity bus from Nicosia to Limassol although I very much enjoyed the experience very much.

Now this is a good experience. For those of you that are interested. Travelled from the Turkish side (trnc) much more to see on this side than the south. You can more or less travel the green line. Passports have to be shown now to cross both ways. Not as good as 10 years ago as things on the northern side weren’t done up (cafes etc). History lovers will love it

Easy acces to the north part of Nicosia. Very interesting for a tourist, but it must be sad for most of the Cypriots. The document checking doesn't take long, but expect to wait a bit in line. I wasn't expecting the north part o be so touristy at the border, but anyway, after that part it changes a lot. It feeled safe in the north too, so definetly this is a must do if you're in Nicosia.

Beautiful historic building! Nice shops to buy souvenirs and handicraft or have a little coffee break. The atmosphere is very idyllic, rustic and calm. Public toilets are also available. A true gem when visiting the city.

The museum is a treasure trove of information about the rich history and culture of the region, with a particular focus on the Ottoman Empire and other historical periods. One of the things that impressed me most about the museum was the attention to detail in its exhibits. Cathedral turned into a mosque. Free entry but they do have some restrictions on dress code for ladies, no short clothing and they require you cover your head with a hijab, which they provide before you go in. Everyone needs to take off their shoes. It is serene and you might find a few believers making their prayers.

Impressive mosque. Due to whichever power was dominating at the time, it was common in the area for Christian churches to be converted into Muslim mosques - or vice versa. In fact this used to be a Catholic cathedral as is obvious from the construction, but has huge minarets added.

Wow if this is not a great local museum which is housing an impressive collection which will impress anyone, whether you were a fan of prehistoric artifacts Or classical antiquities. Although there is still much work that could be done with the presentation of the artifacts it is indeed an impressive collection in any person who wants to know about the history of Cyprus to check out this museum it’s free to the public has a great gift shop.

Perhaps the most important museum in Cyprus. It contains many artefacts from every period of Cypriot history. Some highlights for me were stone tablets with Cypro-Minoan script, translations of Roman-era tombstones, Bronze Age weaponry, and Mycenaean ship models. But there is a lot more here than that. Free entry, which is so appreciated. Thank you, Cyprus. Captions for everything there are in English and Greek. Bathrooms on site. Be aware that it closes at 1pm on Sundays.

Cyprus do have a nice and central position in the East Mediterranean Ocean. It was interesting to see if the Cyprus Museum reflects this…. and, not surprisingly it does! You will find a presentation that includes local finds from 10,000 years ago and later with things from Egyptian and Greek and Roman (and more) i fluence. And the Chinese are not the sole posessor of a terracotta statues. Free entrance and surely worth visiting.

If you are travelling to Cyprus and are interested in the history of the island a visit to the Cyprus Museum is a must. The museum is world class. It has hundreds of artifacts, statues, pottery, coins , mosaics... that cover the entire settled history of the island. It's laid out in a logical order with the oldest Neolithic items first progressing through the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine periods. It takes about 2 hours to see everything but it's worth it.

While in Nicosia, this is a must visit if you want to know about the history of civilization on the island of Cyprus. As most museums in Cyprus, the entrance is free of charge. We came at the right time for the nice view of the city. The view is great but we find the little video about Nicosia is even the bigger surprise. Help us understand this city so much more and the lady up there is also very helpful. She would be happy to answer questions you have about the view you see or when you have any questions.

There’s not a huge amount of information, or if there it is not very clearly presented - on the interactive screens below the windows looking outwards. But you get a nice view. In the centre of it all there is a film playing which discusses Nicosia’s history, and there is also a useful timeline on the inner wall. €2.50 is probably a price that both sides (patrons and providers) are happy with.

Unfriendly staff made me feel uncomfortable. There was nobody at the counter when I came, but I was directly informed by a cleaning lady that I will pay as soon as the cashier lady comes (which to me is common sense and the entrance fee was displayed understandably, but the tone seemed harsh to me). I continued to watch the exibithion and was a bit rudely asked later to pay in the middle of video watching. I understand they probably have a history with visitors who did not pay the entrance fee, but to me this kind of behaviour seemed very embarrasing. Windows were not really clean, although interactive info tables, video and timeline wall were good. Overall, I left soon and would not really recommend just because off the staff.

A good place to start, before exploring nicosia. You get to read about famous monuments, the hostory and significance of each. Also to have a look at it from far through the windows, perfectly placed on all 4 sides. They also have a projector room fairly explaining the history and how this beautiful city has come to become the last divided capital.

Not having very many tall public spaces in the city, it's an interesting viewpoint, but nothing special. Museum part is simple, but informative, however from the views I would have expected at least something open air, not a building floor with a panoramic view through some windows. Also, given the rooftops and the buildings being so close to each other, it is hard to figure out where exactly the green line is separating the Greek and Turkish parts.

If you are in old town and have some time, it is worth a visit. you only need 15 to 30 minutes at this small museum. The observatory allows you 360 view of the area from a great viewpoint. There is also a 15 minute video that is constantly playing (but note it can be played in different languages as well so you might have to wait to restart in your language of choice). If you are there on a hot day, it's also a good way to take a break from the heat. There is also a bathroom 2 floors down that you can access.

I had the pleasure of visiting the gallery during the exquisite exhibition 'Ενδυμα Ψυχης' and I think the space was a perfect fit. The shop has a variety of beautiful objects and works of art. A great collection. The art gallery has a Cypriot a Greek and a French collection, all very good. At times it also has periodic exchibitions. There is a cafe and a shop with the basics. It is a very pleasant visit. It's easy to go through the whole place at once but the entrance fee also allows you more visits. A must visit in Nicosia. Despite what the website says I have never seen it open during the day for the public to enter but rather it can be booked for events through the cultural services. It was a lovely 1 hour drive from Nicosia. The drive through the winding, twisty road through the Machairas Mountains was breath taking. Its Spring time & all the terraced fields were shades of green. The almond trees were starting to burst in to flower. The air was crisp & fresh. We arrived at the Monastery just before the start of Orthodox Lent. The monks were preparing the Church and grounds. You can feel the sacredness of this place. Full of peace, calm, beauty & sanctity.

The monastery has a little bookshop with most interesting and diverse spiritual literature in Greek, Russian and English. Prices are pretty high. But you find gems there that Amazon cannot provide. Don't rush through the shop. Take some time, study the various books of your preferred language. People are not in a hurry at the monastery :). The shop also carries rare herbal teas, all kinds of olive oil products, and of course icons and other devotionals.

A wonderful mall, The place is super clean. Do you have a big diversity of stories for absolutely everything from brands of clothing shoes that are all next each others such as messy as Zara and masimo doti… It’s not so crowded as in other walls and I mean the stories they’re not jam together, but you have spaces, but at the same time you have a lot of communal places where you can see if you can walk you can have a coffee . The kids and the arcades as well as cinema and everything is related is next to each others and the hygiene. There is amazing. The food area is relatively speaking big in good, but I wish there was a little bit more organisation to it.

There are plenty of restaurants and some good shops BUT if you only need shopping then Nicosia Mall is a far more modern option with greater selection of shops and a generally better 'feel'. I bought shoes in Aldo. in Mall of Cyprus At first Administrator said that a refund was not possible, they took the shoes back, and in return they gave a “coupon” Administrator reported that the coupon has no time limits, as a result, today they said that the coupon does not pass in the program. The main thing is that before agreeing to the coupon (they refused to return the money, although the shoes were returned within the period established by law and were absolutely new), the administrator assured me that the date on the coupon does not matter - it can always be extended. This church holds such beauty inside. The paintings on the ceiling and the icon wall make the trip worthwhile. As with most Orthodox churches, photography is not allowed inside for most visitors, so the exterior photos will have to do. They really don’t even begin to suggest what you’ll see inside, though.

What we saw in exactly 2 minutes in the church was beautiful. It is a pity, however, that they employ an absolute j*** to let in visitors, and in the course of barely 3 hours today he managed to repel us twice! We came some minutes before 11 and just dropped the money into the box, when he shouted us out, saying he was closing for "only 10 minutes". We had to leave, and when we returned about 2 pm he was sitting in the car opposite the open church doors, and again shouted at us that it was closed and will open in "only 10 minutes". I have been here several times, and it has always been the same: Cypriot Orthodox "friendliness" at its worst. The guards seem to enjoy their "power" and demand respect while showing no sign of respect for visitors. So beware - don't even look at your phones or you'll be time off for taking pictures, and if you are a group, beware that you'll be charged a entrance fee even if there is no sign to that effect. And do not expect any smiles. Today was my last time in this "church".

A beautifully-decorated ancient church, covered on every interior surface with intricate icons. "Small but perfectly-formed", as they say. Entry is theoretically free like with all South Cyprus museums/attractions, a small donation in the church box is expected. When we arrived at 09:30 in February there was no one there, but we asked the restaurant opposite, who called up the priest, and 5 minutes later an old guy turned up with the key! There are public toilets right next to the church, although they weren't very clean.

It's such a beautiful church set in beautiful surroundings. When we arrived there, the church was closed even though it stated on Google that it was to be open. We were there in December 2022. We drove back to the village and found the priest who was more than willing to open the church. Father Kyriakos answered all our questions and guided us around all the wallpaintings in the church. Beautiful preserved and restorated. The church is a heritage site by Unesco. Well worth the visit!

Perhaps the most beautiful of the painted churches of Cyprus, also due to the presence of a complete decoration of the narthex (including many donor portraits giving a glimpse of secular life of medieval Cyprus). Very easy to reach compared to the churches of the central Troodos, and in my experience the opening hours are relatively well maintained. Only issue is the old photography topic. There is no official sign stating it but most guards will insist that UNESCO forbids photography (which is not the case). Nevertheless, in random choice some people are allowed (as testified by the pictures in this google maps entry), others not, and in general they don't seem to really know themselves what they are doing.

The church is fully decorated with wall paintings of the 12th-13th century. They are well preserved. At some points, you see the previous layer of the wall, which means that the latter wall painting is mimiting it. Photos are not allowed inside of the church for safety reasons. There is no entrance fee. It was open even though google said it was closed. The cute old man there said that they usually keep it open until 3-4 pm. There are two taverns near church, so you can enjoy your lunch if you travel from far.

Panagia tis Asinou or Panagia Forviotissa is a Christian church of the early 12th century, catholic of a dissolved monastery, near Nikitari, Cyprus. The temple is one of the nine frescoed churches of Troodos that have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1985. Worth seeing the Byzantine Museum. I especially recommended for connoisseurs of Orthodox art. You visit may takes around 2 hours because there is a lot to see there. First of all, there is a splendid collection of beautiful and unique Orthodox icons. Truly immense iconostasis. Secondly, you'll see charming Byzantine mosaics there. The Byzantine Museum has many other artifacts and items related to the liturgy of Orthodoxy. You shouldn't take pictures inside. I was a visitor in this splendid Museum in November 2018.

Interpretation options are not great and it is unclear where to go/what parts to see, etc.

Museum has multiple areas, bizantine religious art, contemporary art and folk art. Also there you can find very beautiful architecture. On the ground floor is an amazing collection of icons from 10 century to present, which represents many icons and artifacts from churches at the Nicosia area. Many of them have a scars of interetnic war that caracterise history of the island. Contemporary art gallery have 15 - 16 century paintings made by students of the that time in few styles of French, Spanish and autohton schools. Unfortunately is not allowed to make a photo, so is nothing to show here. Is a must to visit.
