What an amazing view of Bergen from the top. Cost isn't terribly expensive, around $8 US. The car leaves around every 5 or so minutes, so there is very little waiting. Once at the top, tou get an amazing, unobstructed view of practically all of Bergen. There is a small shop, 2 restaurants, play areas, some trails, and even a lake up there. We chose to walk back down. Its on a wide, gravel road, so its not too bad and there are some cool places to get some other shots of the city. Highly recommend.

One of the best relaxing attractions in Bergen. It took awhile to get up to the park but once we were up there it was very beautiful and nice. 10/10 recommend you definitely need to come here if your visiting Bergen.

The train is amazing. Takes 10 mins to reach the top. On clear days, views would be good too - I was not so lucky. There are walking trails around the top and some of them can take you to foothill too. There is a cozy cafe and some play area for kids. One can spend 2 hours there before wanting to head back. Train ride is a must do. At least one-way!

Very scenic & beautiful views from the top station. Beautiful nature with natural lake at the top. Very sad & unfortunate experience of shopping malls & soveirigen shops don’t give stamp & proper documents for the refund of tax for foreign national. So be careful to get stamp on the bills & receipts for tax refund.

If you have not seen the city from the top. It’s a nice place to explore. If you are with kids they will enjoy the top. They have lots of play area for kids and sheep’s. Lots of path for hiking with restaurants on the top. It’s only 2.5 km from the top so you can easily walk down while cooking by seeing nice views of the city.

We went on an absolutely beautiful day. Our son loved the playground at the top. We enjoyed the amazing views and hiking to one of the peaceful lakes up top. We paid to take it up and then walked down. It was a very lovely walk through the woods down, although a little steep in some parts.

Atrocious day to go up the funicular, but it was a wonderful experience . You can buy tickets in advance or at the gate, either via a person or machine. It's all very efficient. Wait times were OK though I imagine in summer it could get very busy. Views would be fantastic on clearer days. Up the top is a cafe, shop , toilets childrens play area and various walks for hikers . Adult price is equivalent of £9.50

Going with this small mountain train is a must! From the top of the mountain you’ll see a million dollar view. If you’re fortunate you’ll be in Bergen in a sunny day. Unfortunately the weather during our trip was rainy and cloudy, but we could enjoy the majestic view at the whole city, the sea and the nearby mountains for few minutes before a storm started. It’s extremely satisfying. This place is part of my top 3 attractions in Bergen.

Great views of Bergen! Reasonably priced, we took it up one way and walked back down. Tons of space at the top to get different views. Very kid friendly with a play park and Troll village. Cafe, restaurant and shop up top as well.

I took multiple trips up and down the Fløibanen during my visit to Bergen. It’s about €20 for each return trip, and totally worth the view and experience at the top of Mount Fløyen. Highly recommend to go at least once before sunset and once early morning when it first opens.

This is a wonderful experience for young and old.👶👴👵 It begins with a short train ride to the top. Once there the views are breathtaking. You can see and fall in love with Bergen's true beauty. They've done a great job with the entire setup. They have gift shops, restaurants and a hotel being renovated at the top as well as trails for jogging, walking and just enjoying the beauty of nature. Children will love the goats that roam around freely as well as both locals and tourists walking their dogs. The nature trail is paved but you can go off the trail and enjoy a hike to the bottom instead of returning on the train ride down. Well worth the few bucks to enjoy a quick trip or an all day tour of nature.👍❤

Truly a majestic view! The infrastructure is very clean and convenient, but the real wonders are atop of the mountain, splendid nature just a couple km from the city. The round-trip ticket was quit affordable, 12 eur

Super tired from the other hikes in Norway, I took the Floibanen here in Bergen. Very efficient, it goes every 15 minutes with 5 compartments to take people up. On the way up or down, you see the other car and it's nice to take in the views going up and down. Also cool to see the capacity and sees how many seats are left. Glad we took this because it was raining quite a bit that day and we got to save our energy as well. I believe it was 160 NOK for a round trip ticket and in that instance, it was worth it.

Given that it's freezing now, there was no wait for the funicular. It will take you up to the mountain where there's an excellent view of the area, restaurants, playground and trails to hike. Take the first spot in the funicular, bottom, if you can for the best view.

Other than being a lookout point, you can also hike the trails up there. There’s also a mini playground for kids and few different cafes. Restroom is available. Check the weather before you go up. The route will have several stops throughout the short journey. You can get a single ticket up and hike down.

Well, what can I say- probably the greatest view over Bergen from here. I only regret that i didn't have the time and preparation to do a hike there. I took the funicular which is like super easy and fast and enjoyed one of the most beautiful sunsets ever!

If you want to treat yourself to some excellent food and some good wine, visit this place. The food they serve is the highest quality you can find. We tried the octopus, halibut and the crab legs. Absolutely delicious. Ask for Lucas from Argentina:) he was wonderful.

Great stop on your tour of Bergen. A must see even if just strolling through. Got time for lunch? You’ll find all you need right here. From fish and chips to salmon burgers. Buy fish to take home and prepare or just let them do it and eat in a prepared spot. As the weather changes quickly there is plenty of covered seating for everyone with heaters. There is a great energy in this section of town. Many passing through. Highly recommend a stop here for eating, but bring your wallet it’s not cheap.

Very expensive. no outdoor market when visiting today but plenty to see inside and plenty of sea food items all fresh. You can get local cakes and freshly made baguettes. There is a place just inside the door by the lift for the tourist information which is upstairs to get a lovely cup of tea.

The Market has a lot of local residents selling sea food, fresh fruits and homemade goods. We saw a few performers in the market which made the shopping a bit entertaining. One thing that I found was unique was whale meat which tasted different but delicious.

Unfortunately it's under construction at the moment so the outside isn't as appealing, but inside the market is full of varieties of seafood and multiple restaurants to dine at. We ate at Fish Me and had both the soup and whale for dinner and these dishes were some of the best seafood I've ever had. Great central location and ended up walking past it everyday we were there!

Love the fish market. You can get stone crab claws for a reasonable price. Most of the seafood you get here will be fresh and of course they taste amazing. Highly recommend this place to you when you are in Bergen before you step onto your voyager. Enjoy!

A place for tourists, but definitely worth it! Sea urchin (taste quite ok, but ... we don't have to eat them), fish soup (excellent) and whale meat (I ate it, but somehow my conscience bit me all the time).

If you are looking for fresh seafood, and Bergen, this is the place to go. The prices are not cheap so be prepared. Quality of food is outstanding.. with fresh fish tanks to an endless ice bar of fresh fish, shellfish and mollusk.

It’s nice experience, lotta fish and seafood to choose from including whales meat. The only reason why I didn’t give it five stars because majority of the food is fry so there is not much options even the grill fish they still use too much oil on the flat grill. And yes very expensive paid over $50 for that small plate.

There is an indoor market all year long. The indoor market is nicely presented and has lots of seating. The fish seemed quite exotic, including the dried haring that are so historically significant to Norway. There are tanks with HUGE crabs and tiny lobsters. Also sea anemone and all sorts of other (to a tourist) exotic creatures. The outdoor market is for the summer only. It is a big dirtier and busier, as you would expect. It also has several eateries with dedicated seating. The outdoor market sells whale fresh and cooked. Whale meat is only sold in a handful of places worldwide. Norway is one of them.

Their seafood is so fresh and delicious! The waitress recommend the set menu sincerely and explain to us that the diff between the live and frozen King Crab. No where is better than here.

I went for outdoor fish market. Variety of food & taste. Its wet & Norwegian price of course. For experience wise try some king crab, seafood platter. We have a nice dinner there. Our sitting just beside the harbour. I believe the outdoor market just open in the summer only.

Fascinating Fish Market in the middle of Bergen. Prawns were delicious.

DON"T COME HERE. This is a tourist trap place where they will fleece you. We ordered sea urchin (which looked purple on the outside and didn't resemble the ones from Japan) and couple oysters. Oysters were meh but the sea urchin was so terrible I will never forget the experience! I've never had any sea urchin like this. It was a crime to even call that. It was tiny, watery and disgusting and they charged us quite a lot for the measly meal. The local beer made up for the meal. I would have given it one star except for the fact that we ordered twice from the fish purveyors to cook at our rental and they were legit tasty. Oh and the venison sausage was so good I brought one back home.

It is very beautiful even when we visited in the winter time which we experienced all types of weather, we had rain, shower, snow, hail, high winds and a very brief of sunshine within 48 hours while we were here! Many bars, restaurants, coffee shops to enjoy! Those wooden houses show their charms no matter in the day time or night!

If there is no bunch of tourist, it's nice place to visit and to imagine what it was like to live in this area hunderets years ago. The place was destroyed by major fires few times , but fortunately it is fully restored and it still has the original design.

Very picturesque historical area with an amazing story of fires, rebuilds etc. Now housing some great boutique Norwegian touristy shops, many duty free also. Right on the harbour front. Some nice dining too but not cheap.

This beautiful medieval wharf brings you back in time. Walking between the wooden building is a very nice experience. If you are visiting Bergen you will definitely need to visit it and I believe you won't regret it.

Amazing historical site. We loved the architecture, the shopping, the food. We came here many times during our vacation. We took a boat tour a got some good views of Bryggen.

Beautifull place one of must to visit while in Bergen. Lots of suvenier shops, restaurants and the heart of city. All familie enjoyed the walk. Some of buildings are now under restauration, but it was lots of to see anyway. Try a walk around these old wooden buildings and feel the spirit of the place. You may find some hiden bars and treasures. Enjoy.

Settled in the heart of Bergen, the old unique buildings called Bryggen. Unfortunately right now, there are a lot of buildings under restoration but I was here six years ago and it is super cool to see the different colors and the history of the buildings. There are a ton of tourist shops selling souvenirs and one of the companies turned this into a hotel, I think the Radisson. Cool to see but it defintely lost its timely touch.

It’s one of the most important tourist attractions in Bergen. It was built by German traders of Hanseatic age in 14th century century. It was destroyed by fire many times but rebuilt again. It’s worth going inside small lanes to see the old buildings, some of which are more than 300 years old. The outside area facing port has got a lot of restaurants and shops which are very popular with tourists and locals. Worth seeing.

Bryggen, the old wharf of Bergen, is a reminder of the town’s importance as part of the Hanseatic League’s trading empire from the 14th to the mid-16th century. Many fires, the last in 1955, have ravaged the characteristic wooden houses of Bryggen. Its rebuilding has traditionally followed old patterns and methods, thus leaving its main structure preserved, which is a relic of an ancient wooden urban structure once common in Northern Europe. Today, some 62 buildings remain of this former townscape. It is a lovely place to walk around, have a coffee or spend some times in the shops. A must see when visiting Bergin.

Amazing place to go for a stroll. Nice and cozy shops, also interesting for buying souvenirs. I suggest to walk in the small streets between the wooden houses, they open into more houses, shops, gardens and wonderful settings. I suggest to visit the place in the morning and in the evening too. It’s very stunning. A great idea is to take a cruise on one of the fjords easily reached from Bergen and watch Bryggen while going away. A visit here is a must do when in Bergen!

The area of Bryggen in Bergen is a must see and very close to the city center. The old, historical wharf has lots to offer and is great to visit in the early morning or late evening. It’s usually very busy during the day. Little shops and restaurants are located here with tons of local goods to try out or buy. Most of the shops are also tax free (you can claim your tax back at the airport).

This was our emergency stop on our Northern Lights cruise, what a lovely place to stop off, bought some pastries to take on board.

It’s located upstairs, you can take the elevator or stairs. Plenty of information and brochures available for you to choose from. Clean visitor center. Staff was helpful too.

Pleasant staff but trainee gave us completely wrong recommendations about visiting the Hanseatic museum (opposite the office but closed until 2026), distance to a destination (half the time he told us) and telling us to download an app to buy local transport tickets but neglected to mention that if you buy tickets you have to use them immediately (absolutely not necessary as there are handy machines at the stops).

It is located in the heart of Bergen next to famous Fish Market. It was very spacious with enough seating place The staff was very very helpful and courteous. Beside all tourist information, they also sell the tickets for all tours. Another highlight was that they exchange foreign currency. Please note to exchange foreign currency from bank is a big headache in Norway.

Very smart and well done out office, enough staff to see to all enquiries and mostly helpful. Good array of gifts, especially fridge magnets and little models of Bryggen, which were of a high quality. You can also buy tickets for various attractions also.

Excellent. The team is very helpful, provides detailed information and advices the most suitable activities depending on stay and preferences. Mrs. Ploy assisted and provided the best recommendations and tours and she booked them; also she explained about the bergen card and all the visits to do within and outside Bergen reachable by bus.

Helpful place for Bergen and environs questions. However, they have virtually nothing about all of Norway. Yeah, I get that they are all about Bergen, but Bergen visitors also go other places on their Norway visit and would remember fondly a place that at least offered literature for the rest of the country. Just IMHO.

I went to the place and it was a great experience if you are a tourist. You can get any information regarding your travel dates and time accordingly. To me they really explained well and got to know if you're with a kid what you can do and which place can be really nice to visit according to your plan... So to me nice experience overall.

We came here to exchange the local currency on a rainy morning! The exchange rate is 1 euro to 9.38 Kn, not the most favorite exchange rate. The staffs are friendly, the location are nice and clean!

All the area is being design with information centre on the first floor with big open space with information desks and big dividing exhibition panels. On one side office and conference room on the aether big Windows for all the length with magnificent scenarios of Bergen old buildings reflected on sea.worth visit staffs well informed and amazing helpfully. Lift take you dawn were restaurants and fisheries .locals products , fruits and vegetables. You have the choice to buy fish and take home or eats on the veranda with sea front.

So helpful! The woman who served us was really great at helping us make sense of all the actives that were available and which ones matched our wants and budget. She organised and sold us a four day fjord-kayak-hiking tour and we left quite satisfied. Warning: the wait for serve was long! And in the end we felt the 'Norway in a Nutshell' tour was over priced (but, to be fair, we didn't have ideal weather). However, the kayaking and hiking made our trip.

I must say I went there to ask what to do on my last extra day, and the lady working there was very helpful, patient, and professional. She offered me all different options and let me choose slowly (I waited aside, and some people took turns). Then when I wanted to book a cruise the system wasn't working and the employee had to call the agents so it took some time. When a passive-aggressive lady said Im holding the line and asked to see if I had the number, the employee told her off and said it's my business only. I loved that, thank you! I ended up booking online the next day.

Great view - you can either hike up or get the cable car. There is a small restaurant at the top. The walk from the top to Floyen is about 15km and takes 5 hours if you are not an experienced mountain top walker. The first part of the trek is a bit confusing to follow as it is only signposted by small poles and you're going away from the end destination. Once you're along the ridge, it's easier to follow the tors. The terrain is quite rocky and lots of small ups and downs - you want waterproof, sturdy walking shoes and even then, it's not an easy walk. However, many locals will race past you and make the walk (or they might be running) look a breeze!

Hiked up via the stairs. Took me 60min from Montana to the top. The view along the hike is beautiful in sunny day.

We did a hike late March. We took a rather long one. It was amaaaaazing though kinda hard at some point. We may have lost the path so we just tried to go up. There was some snow (well, when you don't have the adequate gear, it can seem a lot) which made the hike harder than it should've been. Still, it was amazing and I would totally recommend going up mount Ulriken in the longest and hardest way possible ^^ it's more fun 😊

Absolutely amazing place. Can recommend hiking up to this mountain instead of using a cable-car, especially if the weather is nice. Even as fat person as me could climb to the mountain in 1.5 hours without any issues. The views are rewarding.

It is one of the major tourist attraction in Bergen. There is a special bus leaves from near Tourist Information Office for this attraction every half an hour. Their charges include to and fro transport and the ticket for cable car. It takes about 7/8 minutes in cable car to reach top. The view from top in all direction was just too good. On a clear sunny days one can see miles ahead. One could see entire Bergen city below. We saw few people going for a hike from here on top of adjoining hills. The zipline on top of another hill was very daring. There was a restaurant serving tea/coffee/beer and snacks. Don't miss it...

I was hiking to Ulriken from Blåmanen, yes I gotta admit it was a bit too much to go and took a lot of time and energy. But still I have no regret to hike here, it was beautiful and fun.

1400 stairs to the top. It is steep but worth the effort. It connects to a few other trails which can all be done in one day.

If you want a pleasure hike, it’s not. I don’t know, if there is any other safe way up, other then stone stairs. Marks on the trail are not clear so accidentaly we find ourselfs on a bike road. Cable car is expensive. Views are nice, also we met few sheeps.

Extremly beautiful view from the top of the mountain, we took the cable car up the mountain and hiked to Fløyen, this is a 13 km hike and is very beautiful. I would really recommend doing this hike, and you can always take the Fløibanen down if you are to tired to walk down.

Incredible, panoramic views of the whole of Bergen can be experienced at the top of Ulriken. You can either hike to the top, or take a quick 5 minutes cable car that costs around €30 for a return trip. There is also a restaurant and cafe up there, and many walking paths to explore further.

Excellent views of the city, and higher than the ones you get from the Fløyen, true, BUT, the fact that there are not many things to do nor places to visit once you're up there makes you have to focus on the views, which are excellent, yes, but... for how long? Also, the round trip with the funicular is not cheap at all, NOK365/per person, and it takes 5min each way (you can do it by foot via the stairs route or the hike).⁷

It’s a beautiful place there. You have a good view over Bergen. A one way ticket cost 20 nok. On the mountain is a lovely cafe/restaurant and restrooms. You have a free water refill. Everything is very clean so place take your waste with you and don’t throw it into the nature.

Cable car is very expensive, but driving in it is great experience. View from the top is awesome, and I am not sorry that I go up, climb, for 3 hours. I was exhausted, but content.

Very interesting museum showing exhibits from the Hanse time. How did the people (only males) live, what did they trade with and what were the rules of living together. I recommend it.

Excellent museum detailing the history of the Bryggen. Informative and good displays of what it used to be like. The building itself is one of the oldest in the area and gives you a real sense of what it was like living and working here. Reasonable entrance fee for a worthwhile visit. Staff were friendly and the exhibits were all well done and laid out. Spans 3 floors. Recommended.

Closed until 2026! The museum offers a tour through some other parts, which I wouldn’t recommend to anyone, as you’re just paying to see 5 rooms with nothing in it. It’s always just tables and benches. The exhibition didn’t move to the new area of the museum.

Well worthwhile doing the guided tour as you learn so much about the Hanseats and their way of life. The long rows of wooden buildings are beautiful and also the assembly room which is now the museum. Interesting to learn about their trading routes and the trade in Stockfish in Bergen.

Small but well preserved little museum showing how the early settlers of Bergen were conducting their business in this little home. Shows some nifty inventions of those days and how they spent their time working and sleeping there. Got a bundle deal of entry to 3 museums (Hanseatic, fishery) including this, plus a bus that takes you around them.

A small museum, you won't spend much time there but it is interesting to visit.

The Hanseatic Museum is closed for renovation and expansion, but the Schoetstuene is open and we caught the last tour of the day. The guide provided a lot of the information we might have gotten from the museum. The history of the Hanseatic League is fascinating, and the original buildings on the tour were very interesting. The guide was enthusiastic and engaging.

There's a very nice display of Grieg's life in the visitor center, as well as a coffee shop and toilets. His house is a short walk over a little bridge. The lovely concert hall on the grounds is a perfect venue to hear a piano concert of Grieg's music with beautiful scenery behind the pianist.

A super experience! I wasn't fully excited to make this stop, but even for someone who isn't into classical-era music or composition, this museum was well worth the stop. The museum portion of the grounds is very well done and takes you through a full timeline of the period and Grieg's life. They do tours through the house every half hour, and that was well worth the time to get to see inside the space he designed. The grounds are beautiful, and they do a great job with the audio tour explaining how nature inspired his work.

I do not know of a more charming place that evokes the life of a composer that "Troldhaugen." The memorabilia is wonderful within the modest home, but the sod-roofed concert hall is the true gem. Our visit was capping by a performance and commentary by a marvelous pianist.

Very nice museum with beach nearby. Nice view in bergen. Have to got down on Hop and walk 1.7km. Route was yellowish as it is autumn season. Very old wooden building with short opening hours. Be careful of the path when you travel in autumn as its slippery.

Well worth the half hour walk from the tram stop (Hop). We were fortunate to have a very knowledgeable guide all to ourselves. Have to admit we didn't do the museum.

We had a really relaxing and interesting time here. The exhibition, the house tour and the outdoor audio guide where really great. The audio guide had many music pieces connect to the place and really connected us to the composer.

This was a very enjoyable trip. My husband liked this so much that this is his second visit. I have limited mobility so there were places that were to steep for me to go to, for example Greig's tiny get away cabin.

Edward Grieg’s home is well worth visiting. Great exhibit of artifacts, guided tour of the house and a fantastic view of the bay from the gardens. Self guided audio tour in several languages available as well as a fine coffee shop and toilets.

Nice place to visit when in Bergen. Although the city and surroundings offer plenty to see and do, if you are with kids, the aquarium is a nice place to visit. Not extremely big, it is nicely built and children will love the variety of animals and activities. Plenty of educational activities and even a cinema. For the adults there is a huge amount of information about the sea life of Norway, from the Fjords to the sea. Time well spent.

Much bigger than expected! I even got to see a brand new baby penguin. Fun stop, but definitely pricy for admission so make sure you've given yourself plenty of time to see it all.

The place looks great and it has a decent variety of animals. It was a good experience, but nothing extraordinary. Ticket price was a bit..high, but it is understandable. Food prices at the cafeteria on the other hand...just eat somewhere else before visiting. But I was amazed quite a few times by the variety and some of the animals they have and per totally it was a good experience It's definitely worth to go if you are visiting Bergen, or even if you live there!

The Bergen Aquarium is a fun and educational place to visit. The outdoor area features penguins, otters, and sealions. Inside you will find lots of fish species from around the world. Descriptions are in norsk and english and you can learn a lot about the animals and thr eco systems they live in. Though the entry fee is nit cheap, you can spend hours and hours here without getting bored. Great for kids.

We visited Bergen aquarium in February, it was very interesting to see lots of different regions species. Also have a outdoor penguins feeding session every day, it is a good size aquarium

Amazing aquarium. Despite its small size, we can find different species and discover some amazing facts. The live shows are really great and the staff is amazingly funny. We got to see them feeding the penguins and I got to say, it was hilarious.

Mediocre at best. There was a very limited selection of sea animals. It lacked some basic species I had expected to see in Norway such as seals, polar bears, puffins, salmon, and other classic aquarium animals like dolphins and sharks. The movies are in Norwegian without subtitles in English or any other translation device. Fine way to spend an hour on a rainy afternoon, however.

I'm so happy I decided to go here! This aquarium is around a 30 minute walk from Bryggen, and has a variety of fish, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and more. The first thing you're greeted with are the wonderful Gentoo penguins, we got lucky enough to see them sitting on eggs! They were also generally very playful. But yeah definitely come here if you like animals!

It's a very beautiful place. Its a bit expensive. 350 NOK i felt like it was a bit too much. The animals looked healthy and well taken care of ✨

I liked it, because there are some species I haven't seen before. It is very nice for the families with kids, because there are some tunnels with surprises for kids only and a nice playground outside. There is a cafeteria at the terrace where you can taste a very good ice cream, too.

A wonderful aquarium with the chance to get a lot of different impressions about life in and above the water. Not cheap as a lot of things in norwegian but this is a place which is its money worthy. I was impressed by the big tanks with these giant cods in the blue dark. Scary and fascinating at the same time. Very nice those floating - "petriefied" - aligators also. Good spot for having nearby views about why we always should be aware, that we only share this planet.

Cute little aquarium. Saw the sea lion show. It was in Norwegian and English. A decent amount of exhibits with placards in both languages as well. There is a place to grab a bite to eat or ice cream. Restrooms throughout the place. Elevator for those who have trouble with stairs. Small gift shop. There is also an outdoor playground.

Such an amazing aquarium! Perfect for a nice day out. The animals are clearly well taken care of and the place is beautifully set up. There was plenty of information about the fish and animals but not enough where it felt overwhelming to read. A great place if you’re looking for something to in Bergen.

We had a great time at the Aquarium. My kids (16 & 12) really enjoyed our visit. One of the highlights of our trip to Bergen. There is lots to see.....penguins, otters, reptiles, fish but I think our favourite was the Sea Lions. They were a lot of fun to watch. We didn't get a chance to visit the cafe so we can't comment. Number 11 bus takes you up to the Aquarium from the Harbour area. We ended up having to walk all the way up but take the bus if u can. Good fun day out! We also got 20% off the ticket price with the Bergen card.

Went to view the art exhibition which combines the other 3 KODEs nearby. Beautiful building and really interesting exhibits. Plenty of information shown about them all. This was a lovely way to learn about the various exhibits and artists. Highly recommended.

Various exhibitions, all included in one ticket! Almost everything was translated to English. + audio guide is included! I especially liked the “queer gaze” exhibition. But they have changing and permanent exhibitions.

I wish museum staff had thought to update their website or Google maps to note that Kode 4 is closed temporarily. I planned a full day around it based on the publicly available info saying it's open, but when I got there it was closed and museum staff confirmed this when I called.

Beautiful church with extraordinary construction in a lonely forest. It is nice to visit even in autumn. Unfortunately, the church itself was closed and guarded by a fence. Maybe there will be a chance to free the whole potential of this recommendable attraction soon.

This is truly a beautiful stave church. It is modeled after the ancient Vikings and the carvings are stunning. Admission is 70 NOK for adults. Around the church there is a small park that invites you to explore.

Lovely church close to Bergen. We parked at the parking below the hill and walked up through the forest and what a lovely sight to behold when we first saw the church. Access is ~110 nok/person. The guides at the front welcome questions and we definitely asked a lot. It's such a beautiful reconstruction and the website has information about it in many languages.

A brilliant church, definitely worth a visit, especially as it is free with the Bergen card. Although it is extremely sad that it was burned down by a disgusting neo-ñäz|, it is brilliant that it has been rebuilt and still looks like an impressive and ancient stave church! It’s great that there are a few small artefacts from the original church remaining, as well. One thing I must say, however, is that the church is often completely swamped with cruise tour tourists, and is also surprisingly small. Still, definitely worth a visit, and you should go inside if you can.

A bit disappointing as the church is fenced in and closed due to Covid for the entire season in 2021. It is difficult to see it properly through the fence and it makes the entire experience sad and disappointing, especially when you travel from far to see it. The church itself is beautiful, but I wouldn't go a second time.

Wow, one of the most beautiful churches i have seen in my life. It's black due to the pine tar that covers it (it gets renewed every couple years). This tar also gives it a fresh foresty smell and keeps the wood from weathering. Tip: We waited for folks outside of the site and asked for their stickers to enter, and saved the 10€ fee.

A unique church, recently built but based on an older version. It was very helpful having a guide to explain the various features in and around the church.

Steep walk from the parking area to the hilltop where the church is located. It is a very cool building and a neat example of the architecture and style of the stave church. Just don't be disappointed that it's not an old building; it's a recent reconstruction and you won't be visiting a historic building, but new construction on a historic site. I probably would have passed on this visit since we saw and entered a historic version in Oslo.

Very nice church very close to Bergen. Pass by if you are coming from the airport. There is a small parking from where you should go approx. 3 mins to reach the church, so it’s very close to the parking.

Accessible by rail or bus, we chose to walk the round trip on a beautiful September day. We beat the tour busses, but their stop was not long and the small church encourages a quick walk through. Since this is the remake following the fire, the smell of fresh cut wood remained strong and sitting in the church was peaceful. A single restroom was available with small charge. Trails a bit uneven and would be very difficult if not impossible for a wheelchair. A stroller is possible. Recommend the visit if you have time as it is out of town a little way.

We visited en route to the airport from central Bergen. As others had suggested it is straight forward to get to and worth a look. Not many stave churches exist in Norway and this is a beautiful example of how they looked. Paid to enter at the gate, there is a fence all round the property. A couple of girls were sitting at a table with a bank card machine to take the fee. 150kr for us both if I remember correctly. We had a good look round, it is a very peaceful location at the top of a hill surrounded by trees. Do go and look.

It's located near port area. This beautiful historical monuments was built in 13th century by one of the most powerful Norwegian king. Over the years it was expanded and it became Governor's house. We came here during our walking tour. Due to shortage of time, we did not go inside. We were told that view from top is excellent.

Rosenkrantztårnet is the most important Renaissance monument in Norway. If you want to visit it in summer, just take into account that it opens at 10 am and closes at 4 pm.

Quite expensive (120NOK p.p.) for the exhibition, mainly empty floors that are suppose to tell the history of the building... only the upper two floors contain a bit of historic information and decorations.

We arrived 45 minutes before closing time. We asked of it would be enough time to see everything. The recommended time was 40-45 minutes they told us. 15 minutes before closing time they started flickering the lights to get us out. 10 minutes before closing someone of the staff starts to walk behind you to rush you to the exit. At the end we told the staff we thought 40-45 minutes was too short for the recommended time in our opinion. We didn’t get to read and see everything, not even close. When we told them, they didn’t care, didn’t respond, were rude and were laughing as we left. Super unfriendly. Content of exhibition interesting. We thought the entrance price (140NOK per person) was overpriced

This was single handily the coolest museum we went to during our time in Norway. It was neat to be able to walk through the rooms and read the information regarding what took place how it was constructed, and how it fit into the regional and national history. There is plenty of authentic furniture and tapestries to illustrate what the spaces could have looked like I would highly recommend a visit.

The Rosenkrantz Tower One of Norway's most important kings, Magnus Lagabøte, lived here in the 13th century. In the 16th century it became the sheriff's castle. To visit the Rosenkrantz Tower is to get close to history. The stone walls in the bedroom of King Magnus Lagabøte still exist. Here is the chapel with the original altar where the king spent a lot of time, and on the first floor the king's soldiers stayed. Via winding, narrow corridors and steep stairs, we move from the basement with the 16th-century dungeon, to the cannon loft just below the roof. The cannons that stood here were used for a single day in the war, during the battle of Vågen, on 2 August 1665. At the top we can get out onto the watchman's corridor on the roof, here the watchmen had a view of the whole city, and this is still perhaps the best view in the city ! The Middle Ages The inner core of the tower is Magnus Lagabøte's tower or castle from the 13th century. This is one of the monuments from the time when Norway was a power factor in Northern Europe. In the tower lived the last two kings who mainly ruled Norway from Bergen, King Magnus Lagabøte and his eldest son, King Eirik Magnusson. Through state administration and legislation, we can say that the kings in the High Middle Ages shaped a Norwegian state. The Danish era The tower also represents the fall of Norway. The Danish general Jørgens Hansønn rebuilt the tower in the early 16th century. The newest part, built for Sheriff Erik Rosenkrantz from the 1560s, represents Denmark's power. It was now Danish officials who made up the power apparatus in the country. The county lords represented the Danish king's power locally. The tower is thus a symbol of the union era, where Denmark was the strong party at the expense of Norway. 1944 In 1944, the Rosenkrantz Tower was heavily damaged when a cargo ship loaded with explosives exploded just outside. The upper floors collapsed. The reconstruction was completed in the 1960s. The investigations that were carried out led to an increase in knowledge about the tower. The restoration means that the building's various building stages and history can be clearly read in the walls. Today, Rosenkrantztårnet is primarily used as a museum, but in some cases concerts and performances have been arranged here. Learn, search and find! If you're a fan of old stone buildings and history, this is a great place to tour through. It's fun to walk through the narrow stairwells and think about what things were like centuries ago. The signage about the rooms is brief - I'd like to see more detail, but I enjoyed the visit, regardless...

Fascinating tower constructed over the course of centuries in different architectural styles. The building you now see was heavily inspired by the Italian Renaissance. Definitely get a tour guide to lead you through the history.

Not included/discounted with the Bergen card, but still worth the price of admission. Very neat, old building with good displays and informative plaques to guide you (in Norsk and English). We spent most of our morning here as there are multiple floors and rooms to explore. Lots of history to read and learn. Great to do in combination with Håkonshallen (which is included with the Bergen Card, and is a relatively shorter tour), if both are open. As others have noted, be prepared to navigate narrow stone stairs. Note the spiral staircase is set as the "down" stairs, with the other stairs as the "up" stairs to help with congestion.

This tower is a must see if you're in Bergen and you like history. There are a lot of stairs and rooms to view and it can be a bit like a maze which is fun. Some of the passageways and stairs can be smaller so watch your step and your head. Once you get to the top of the tower the views of Bergen are great! Final note the tower is NOT part of the Bergen card and you have to pay in full for the tickets but it's worth it.

Gorgeous fort, you can also visit the tower, from where is beautiful view on the city. But the most monumental and famous is Hakon's Hall

Incredible structure but they could use more displays in the halls. You must have the mo unity to navigate multiple, steep spiral staircases both up and down.

Beautiful Fort and surroundings. You can go for a small walk through the terrain of the Fort and have a view over the harbour.

It’s worth seeing if you’re in Bergen as it’s free and has nice views. Overall though we found it a little underwhelming, nothing was open so unsure if there was meant to be any exhibits etc

In a great location and plenty of places to eat and shops

This museum was free with the Bergen city pass. It was a good museum for explaining the history of the area and their very serious trouble with fire. 🔥 cool perspective on how people lived based on an archeological point of view. Also there is free tea and coffee at in the mornings so go get some tea or coffee before diving into the past of the region.

Fascinating museum well presented. With excavations inside showing the history of the city and its fires and rebuild and changes over the centuries. Who lived there and what they did. Worth a visit.

I spent my time here in the Below Ground exhibition of artifacts found after the fire in 1955. Lots of excellent displays and the highlight has to be the translations of the rune sticks, which demonstrate that even centuries ago people wrote the same sort of things on bathroom walls, only their walls were the sticks! 😂

Best museum we’ve seen in Norway. Fascinating to learn about the many layers of Bergen over the centuries. The interpretation signs were so compelling.. each one made us think and continue to reflect on what we saw. It was exciting to visit such a great museum.

If you love unique small museums, you’ll love this as much as I did! We walked into here to kill some time and had one of the best and most memorable experiences in Bergen. We did a tour (it was just the two of us!) and learned so much about Runes, it was genuinely very interesting and inspiring. I highly recommend the tour to give some context around everything in the museum. They also have a really beautiful museum shop to pick up many unique souvenirs!

Very nice and interesting museum about the history of Bryggen, the neighbourhoods just beside and a place to see in Bergen. The museum is well constructed. The exposition about the football team of Bergen, the Brann, is also very good and interesting with different game that you can play.

I enjoyed this more than what I thought. There was a lot of artefacts and a good display on the number of times the buildings had been set on fire. It isn't great for kids, but if you have the Bergen pass, it is definitely worth a visit. You can get through it in 60 minutes but could do a really fast visit in a little over 30 of pressed for time.

The museum is very informative and has a nice atmosphere. They really have a collection that worth the visit and also they manage to use technology as a interesting resource. Definitely worth the visit.

Small- to medium-sized archeological museum with artifacts from, I believe, the 1100s to about 1600s from the local area. Also includes an actual dig site of the old buildings. I liked the combs, rune sticks, and textile artifacts, especially the ball of yarn from around the 1500s. Also enjoyed the items found in the old toilet. Would like to see better signage on the exhibits. I used my camera to take a photo, then read about the items from my photo. Enjoyed this museum very much.

Small museum about the history of bergen, even though it is small it is packed with information about bergen. Little spoiler there were a lot of fires in bergen.

What a lovely place. Very good gift shop with things from museum. In museum is very good atmosphere. Everything is dark and you can see only exhibition. We were not disturbed by other visitors or other parts of the museum in that “dark”. They got lot of things to see and learn. Beautiful old artifacts. And on second floor is museum of Bergen football team. So if you are interested in football, you are welcome.

Very interesting museum with lots of artifacts on display and upstairs they had a large Lego building area where it was very cool to see past creations. Can easily spend 1-2 hours here.

We had a great time visiting the Bryggen Museum. It is well laid out and very informative with lots to see. We especially liked the Runes table. We got in for free with the Bergen card.

Great view - you can either hike up or get the cable car. There is a small restaurant at the top. The walk from the top to Floyen is about 15km and takes 5 hours if you are not an experienced mountain top walker. The first part of the trek is a bit confusing to follow as it is only signposted by small poles and you're going away from the end destination. Once you're along the ridge, it's easier to follow the tors. The terrain is quite rocky and lots of small ups and downs - you want waterproof, sturdy walking shoes and even then, it's not an easy walk. However, many locals will race past you and make the walk (or they might be running) look a breeze!

Hiked up via the stairs. Took me 60min from Montana to the top. The view along the hike is beautiful in sunny day.

We did a hike late March. We took a rather long one. It was amaaaaazing though kinda hard at some point. We may have lost the path so we just tried to go up. There was some snow (well, when you don't have the adequate gear, it can seem a lot) which made the hike harder than it should've been. Still, it was amazing and I would totally recommend going up mount Ulriken in the longest and hardest way possible ^^ it's more fun 😊

Absolutely amazing place. Can recommend hiking up to this mountain instead of using a cable-car, especially if the weather is nice. Even as fat person as me could climb to the mountain in 1.5 hours without any issues. The views are rewarding.

It is one of the major tourist attraction in Bergen. There is a special bus leaves from near Tourist Information Office for this attraction every half an hour. Their charges include to and fro transport and the ticket for cable car. It takes about 7/8 minutes in cable car to reach top. The view from top in all direction was just too good. On a clear sunny days one can see miles ahead. One could see entire Bergen city below. We saw few people going for a hike from here on top of adjoining hills. The zipline on top of another hill was very daring. There was a restaurant serving tea/coffee/beer and snacks. Don't miss it...

I was hiking to Ulriken from Blåmanen, yes I gotta admit it was a bit too much to go and took a lot of time and energy. But still I have no regret to hike here, it was beautiful and fun.

1400 stairs to the top. It is steep but worth the effort. It connects to a few other trails which can all be done in one day.

If you want a pleasure hike, it’s not. I don’t know, if there is any other safe way up, other then stone stairs. Marks on the trail are not clear so accidentaly we find ourselfs on a bike road. Cable car is expensive. Views are nice, also we met few sheeps.

Extremly beautiful view from the top of the mountain, we took the cable car up the mountain and hiked to Fløyen, this is a 13 km hike and is very beautiful. I would really recommend doing this hike, and you can always take the Fløibanen down if you are to tired to walk down.

Incredible, panoramic views of the whole of Bergen can be experienced at the top of Ulriken. You can either hike to the top, or take a quick 5 minutes cable car that costs around €30 for a return trip. There is also a restaurant and cafe up there, and many walking paths to explore further.

Excellent views of the city, and higher than the ones you get from the Fløyen, true, BUT, the fact that there are not many things to do nor places to visit once you're up there makes you have to focus on the views, which are excellent, yes, but... for how long? Also, the round trip with the funicular is not cheap at all, NOK365/per person, and it takes 5min each way (you can do it by foot via the stairs route or the hike).⁷

It’s a beautiful place there. You have a good view over Bergen. A one way ticket cost 20 nok. On the mountain is a lovely cafe/restaurant and restrooms. You have a free water refill. Everything is very clean so place take your waste with you and don’t throw it into the nature.

Cable car is very expensive, but driving in it is great experience. View from the top is awesome, and I am not sorry that I go up, climb, for 3 hours. I was exhausted, but content.

My girlfriend was very interested in this museum so I accompanied her and it ended up being super interesting. We took the guided tour and for two euros more, it was totally worth it. The guide was great, talked about all parts of the hospital and living quarters, had a ton of knowledge. Interesting to hear the history of the place, how it has changed over the years and the ups and downs of the area. Nice to learn about this and would recommend to people visitng Bergen.

Probably the most unusual museum we have ever been to! A little bit creepy to walk through the wards where the real patients struggling with leprosy were kept a hundred years ago. The atmosphere inside is dark and cooling. There are nameplates of the patients and their stories with photographs in some of the rooms. The building itself seems to be kept in a very good condition almost without restoration. The church looks very nice from the inside as well.

The leprosy museum St. Jørgen's hospital is a distinctive cultural monument. If you visit the museum, you will not be able to avoid imagining what life must have been like for the many people who over several centuries have lived parts of their lives here. At the same time, you will be able to learn more about the disease leprosy and its spread in Norway, and about how a large-scale investment in research and health work put Bergen on the world map. A unique cultural monument that makes an impression St. Jørgen Hospital has had its place in the cityscape since the early 15th century, but after several major city fires there is nothing left of the medieval hospital. A medical breakthrough In 1873, the Bergen doctor Gerhard Armauer identified Hansen's leprosy bacillus. This represented an international breakthrough, not only for leprosy research, but in medicine in general. Discovery of the leprosy bacillus has been able to enjoy international fame for well over 100 years and even today Hansen is one of the most famous Norwegians in the wider world. Did you know that in many countries the disease is referred to as Hansen's disease instead of leprosy? Leprosy is a disease that, right from the Middle Ages until today, has had major consequences for those who have been affected, and prejudice and stigmatization are still a challenge in countries where the disease is still widespread. A short stroll from the Tourist Information office, this museum is a great place. Really interesting information, very well curated. We chose to visit spontaneously so we missed out on the guided tour but were provided with english translations of the exhibition pieces. Fascinating and thought provoking. Especially take time to read and reflect on the individual short biographies which really bring to life the tragedy of this terrible disease. We were also lucky to see temporary dementia and memories exhibition. Definitely worth the entry fee.

Great museum. Very well laid out. Great information panels & English translations. Staff were really good & lovely to talk to. Only 4 because I was looking forward to a guided tour that was mentioned online to find out that they weren't running as they had school kids visits. And that's it for the year. Because of the school visits, some of the buildings weren't open too. I'll try again next year though as I'm sure the tours would add value to the visit.

The place is nice...if you can say so! Very interesting, although the exhibition could be organised better, because as a foreigner you are basically get a book and going from room to room and read. I love to read, but I feel like it could be managed differently.

Very interesting; highly recommended if you are interested in 'dark tourism'. The stories about individual patients are especially interesting. Knowledge of Norwegian is certainly recommended, although you can carry around a copy of explanations in English.

Very interesting museum in Bergen based around an old leprosy hospital. Displays explain how the causes of and treatments for leprosy were uncovered. There are photographs showing how the disease impacted on people. There’s also a herb garden which was at one point used to provide herbal treatments.
