Amazing for the people and the animals! Such a great day out! So many animals there and you can tell what great lives they have. Such an amazing conservation zoo - some of the purchases can be pricey but the proceeds go towards the conversation and the animals. Always developing the area to change it and make it new. The volunteers are super helpful and knowledgeable. Pretty accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. If you go regularly I would 100% recommend getting a membership - it makes it such better value. If you can I would also recommend getting there earlier as it is quieter and also bringing your own lunch - takes a big expense out of your day. But make sure to get an ice cream from Junes Pavilion!

First time at the zoo. Got there for opening time 10am, they pen you in near the elephants which becomes overcrowded very quickly. You’d think they’d just line people up at the main gates and then filter people in. So wandering around, the vast majority of the animals are still asleep at this time of morning. The suns hot, the animals have more sense than to come out and play in the hot morning sun. So the vast majority of the animals from lions, monkeys, and leopards, were all still tucked up in bed. Was a shame we didn’t get to see them. Maybe they should entice them out with some food? But there’s so much more to see and do. There’s loads of other pens that you can actually go inside. Such as the bat cave, where huge bats are flying about above your head and past your face. There’s loads of places for food and drink, loads of places to picnic which is probably the best thing to do. We spent a good 4hrs in the zoo. Definitely visit again in a few years, and highly recommended.

Our second visit here we came from Suffolk to visit and it was well worth the 5 hour drive !! It is a incredible zoo ! Easy to get lost in also but I'd recommend buying a map!! The bat cave is probably the most incredible experience out of the whole day for us it was amazing ! We all had such a incredible day !

Very busy zoo ,plenty of parking ,push chairs to hire ,lots of places to sit and bring your own packed lunch ,which is a must as its expensive ,1 sausage roll cost £8.00 !!! Well kept helpful staff ,face painting lots of thing for children to do .bring sensible foot wear as its very big park

Chester Zoo is an absolute delight! My visit last year was nothing short of amazing. The sheer diversity of animals and their well-maintained habitats left me in awe. The zoo’s commitment to conservation and education is truly inspiring. The layout is user-friendly, and the signage is informative, making it an enriching experience for all ages. The staff were courteous and helpful, adding to the overall enjoyment. I look forward to revisiting this incredible place in the future!

Wonderful zoo, lots of accessibility information around. Only problem is that it is SO BIG that you need more than one day. Opening times either need to be longer or weekend tickets available

Just been to the festive lights at the zoo. Had a brilliant time. Well organised plenty of parking and staff. Lights are great for all ages. Even have interactive characters. Food available (not cheap). Highly recommend

The best Zoo in the UK! Visited with my family. Tickets are bought in advance. Parking is free. Well-organized and friendly staff members! If you want to book a buggy, there are single and double buggy available. Only, there is an age and weight limit. 45kg and up to 7 years old. Book VR for kids. Face paint is available all around the zoo, 10-15£. They will love it! Moreover, you can book a family photo option which is an amazing experience. On your way back home you can get them printed. Decent price to be honest. Rhino is outside of the Zoo territory even before you enter so don't forget to see Rhinos! African Quarter is underway and expected to open Summer of 2025. Waiting!

The best zoo in UK I suppose! And it’s the top 3 in the world too! I walked all day long in the zoo from 10 am to 3 pm and it was amazing, so many places and animals you could see, and indeed they put a much effort caring the animals.

One of the best zoos I have been to. There is a LOT of walking and it will take all day to get round. The animals look very well cared for. Their enclosures seem spacious and there are plenty of places for the animals to find shelter, if us visitors annoy them too much. Most of the animals were easy to spot, I think the tiger was the only one we didn't manage to see. Definitely worth the visit. Baby orangutans are adorable to watch.

We visited today due to the teachers strike and bats off to Chester Zoo for allowing kids to go free, it was a big saving and allowed us to do something exciting. We booked in advance so gaining entry was very straight forward, parking was also plenty and well organised. To start with the place is massive, so please plan to be doing a lot of walking. This said it's all super accessible, a few small inclines but nothing too bad, we managed with a pushchair and five year old. There is some construction going on for new areas but it certainly didn't detract from the visit. The whole place was really clean and tidy, each exhibit looked fresh and not tired. There are so many animals to say and you can easily spend a full day here, I would certainly download the app and plan the visit. One area that pleasantly surprised me was the range of eating establishments. From quick tuck shops to a couple of really nice coffee houses. We are in the food hall, which wasn't too busy when we dined but I imagine it could be really busy during peak times. There were three food vendors, fresh pizza, fish and chips and burgers. The quality was really good, gone are the days of cheap fast food, this was fresh and good quality. We finished off with an ice cream Cheshire Farms. In conclusion I would recommend a visit, the whole place has grown and evolved so much over the years, so if you have never been or haven't been in a few years it is worth a day out!

So impressed. Best zoo I've ever visited. Keepers were amazing. Helpful, accommodating, happy to answer questions even when just walking around doing their jobs, not just when doing a talk. The food outlets were plenty and first class.

Fantastic day out! We arrived when the zoo opened and were one of the last cars to leave after it closed. The keepers and staff are all extremely friendly and look after the animals incredibly well. The zoo is absolutely massive so be prepared for a day of walking. There are however multiple food and drink outlets located across the zoo to give you that energy boost. The best zoo experience we have ever had, will certainly be returning.

A brilliant zoo with so much to see, impressive large enclosures for most of the animals add to the spectacle - except when the animals sometimes decide to hide! You need a good 6 hours minimum to see everything and enjoy what this wonderful zoo has to offer.

Visited yesterday in the rain. And it did rain. Fantastic day, everywhere clean and tidy, food halls offered a lot of choice. Enjoyed it that much we bought a season ticket.

Absolutely fabulous day out, this is definitely one of the best zoos in the country. What makes it so good is down to the quality of everything on offer. First and foremost is the well-being of the animals, which are housed in large habitats that are well maintained and balanced to meet the needs of the inhabitants whilst still providing a close-up view for visitors. There's a very strong focus on conservation and education and a variety of displays and activities to reinforce the importance of caring for our environment. There's really so much here for the whole family that a short review cannot do the zoo justice. Go and find out for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

We went to the lanterns and lights show that they have on in November and December it was fantastic we enjoyed this very much. I would definitely recommend going seeing this stunning event. Be prepared to walk so wear comfy shoes and wrap up. The only downside was the extortionate price of food and drinks in the food village.

We attended the Chester Zoo Lanterns and Lights event and it was absolutely amazing. We've attended a few light shows before but this was by the far the best one we have attended due to how interactive it was. Our kids aged 7 & 4 absolutely loved it!

This has to be one of the biggest zoos I have been to! I even heard a lion roar for the first time. Pretty much ever enclosures we were able to see the animals, unlike some other places I have been to where most the animals are hidden. You can really tell the animals have the care and space they need!

Chester Zoo is a great family day out for young and old. Its constantly changing and growing, its built on an ethos of conservation and protecting the animals. Its a huge place and takes all day to get around and look at the species that are there. We took our own picnic as I always conscious of the captive audience prices. Indeed it cost £3.50 for a bottle of water. My Granddaughter had her face painted and the signage outside said this would cost £13 with a tail or ears. She chose a Tiger tail. My daughter was charged £17.50 for this.. this is shocking. I volunteered to go and bring this up with the face painting team, however my daughter didn't want a fuss making. So just be careful. £17.50 for a three year olds face painted and a tail. It is great to see the animals, however the feeling of being exploited in monetary terms is there throughout the day as everything has a hefty price tag to it.

Visited Chester Zoo this weekend, family of four, including two children aged 11 and 13. We loved seeing the big cats and orangutan’s in particular close up. Animals are so well maintained, lots of space for them and viewing areas too. Could do with water fountains throughout, save spending a small fortune on water. Well worth a visit.

Wow, an amazing zoo! It has been on my bucket list for a few years now, but I live 4 1/2 hours away. Weekend in Chester to accommodate. Fantastic enclosures. Amazing displays and so much to see and do. Just about got round once in 7.5 hours.

We had the most amazing time at Chester zoo yesterday! It was lovely to see all the staff there helping the animals and being so attentive. I would suggest getting there after dinner, as we got there around 10:30am and a lot of the animals were still asleep and hiding. I would also suggest bringing your own food, as the queues and service in the food court was quite slow. Overall, the experience was incredible and we cannot wait to go again!

Amazing place. Clean, spacious enclosures, animals seemed really happy and well cared for. Pricey when buying food and drink inside so would recommend taking a picnic, but what place isn't pricey on food and drink nowadays. The zoo was clean throughout, staff lovely and helpful. Boat ride down the lazy river is free. Flat ground to walk round, signage could be better. Can hire buggies for children and for those with mobility issues. A great day out.

Great visit, the kids loved it, spent about 6 hours here. Big area to cover with little legs so I would recommend having a list of favourite animals you want to see first and get them ticked off. Would recommend taking a packed lunch, you could leave it in the car and fetch it at lunchtime, there are plenty of places to eat at a picnic, saying that there is a food court with a variety of food on offer, burgers, fish and chips, pizza etc. They are always adding new attractions and we will definitely be going back!

Love Chester Zoo and on this visit was lucky enough to see Inka and managed to get some pictures. The 4D Gorilla experience is absolutely fantastic and well worth the £10 extra for the 2 of us. Like a couple of other reviews, only marked down because of the food. Very expensive and not very good quality which is a shame because when we first visited in 2019 the food was fantastic but since the food area reopened the quality is awful. Next time we will bring our own food.

A great zoo, much larger than we expected, with some stunning animals - you'll want a full day here. They also have 26 EV charge points available for guests, which is great! They're at a reasonable cost (40p/kWh at the time of posting), although are rather slow at about 3.7kW unfortunately, even when not shared. Great to see tourist places starting to add chargers though!

Yes it's a zoo and ultimately I'd much rather the animals live in the wild but as zoos go this is as good as it gets. Great place to visit, staff are generally very friendly and happy. Prices for food and drinks is bonkers but that's pretty standard for any UK attraction

Wonderful day as always! We love Chester Zoo so much; it's always changing and improving. There's so much to see and you can tell the animals are extremely well cared for.

We’ve just been to Chester Zoo - what a fabulous attraction. Be warned, this place is huge - you will need comfortable shoes but there are plenty of places to stop and have a drink. The animals are fantastic, although it was a cold day when we were there so a lot of them preferred to stay in their dens, rather than come out to see us. But we got to see the snow leopards (wonderful), and lots of other wildlife.

We arrived upon opening time and were surprised at how busy it was on a week day with the kids still at school. We were lucky enough to meet the 2 week old giraffe and witness a gorilla eating it's own feces, which was definitely an experience! We did take our own picnic, like many others, which I imagine saved us a small fortune. There are plenty seating areas, shaded and otherwise. Would love to revisit!

It’s a great zoo with plenty to keep you going all day. The staff are very approachable and friendly and were fantastic with my daughter who has additional needs. While it has to be understood that animals are not there to entertain it was frustrating that several of them were in an unsociable mood. The only criticism I’d level is that it’s very expensive, and once your in there’s a lot of opportunity to be further mined for coin. Also the layout has random sections and paths fenced off and it doesn’t flow well for seeing everything.

What an amazing day out. Arrived at 10 am and left at closing time. Beautifully laid out. Some of the animals were hiding. The bat cave was impressive. We loved everything, including the boat trip.

Great day. Saw the newest baby when he/ she was just 7 days old. No queuing for anything. Had buttermilk chicken burger and chips.which was lovely. All the animals were well looked after and had lots of room.

Loved the zoo! Very large so was a struggle to get round in a day but thats a great thing as the animals had space! Looking forward to seeing the new enclosure with zebras etc. They had an egg hunt for the children going on and that was a lovely touch...even got a chocolate treat for completing it at the end.

We did the walls in about 45-50 minutes, taking a more leisurely pace as we read all the signs along the way and stopped for pictures a few times. The walk is well paved, though there are stairs in places, and it's a pretty easy walk compared to other city wall walks we've done. It's extremely picturesque to do the whole loop as it passes the cathedral, racecourse, main shopping area, and more historic sites along the way. Highly recommend if in Chester as it's free and you get to see a good amount of the town.

The walk round the city wall is a great way to introduce yourself to Chester. Great views over the River Dee, the shopping centre (get off by the amazing clock tower), the Cathedral, the castle and the Racetrack. Chester is rightly famous for its wonderful black and white buildings, great shops and pubs some of which have a lot of history themselves. It's about 2 miles round, so not too strenuous. After doing it, you probably won't get lost anywhere in the city.

Roman walls around Chester City Centre. In all about 5,000 steps, (approx 2 miles) ancient built Roman wall, restored to make a fabulous and interesting walk round Chester city Center. Starts by the river and Chester castle, takes in the city Center, the Roman Amphitheatre, Chester cathedral, the canal, and Chester race horse track. Lots of places to stop, eat & drink, walking tours available if you want. A walk and wander along the City Walls is one of the best ways to discover and experience the magnificent history of Chester. All in all great couple of hours walk taking in all the history and sights of Chester. Highly recommended!

Chester city walls consist of a defensive structure built to protect the city of Chester in Cheshire, England. Their construction was started by the Romans when they established the fortress of Deva Victrix between 70 and 80 CE. It originated with a rampart of earth and turf surmounted by a wooden palisade. From about 100 CE they were reconstructed using sandstone, but were not completed until over 100 years later. The walls are now the one of the most tourist attractions in Chester City.

A 2 mile walk around Chester city walls. The walls are almost complete. Start at the Roman gardens & follow the walls past the cathedral, Charles I tower, the race course, castle & back to the Roman gardens. Wonderful Victorian clock tower.

We were pleasantly surprised by the cathedral and volunteers. Entry is by donation only, though at Christmas it is £2.50 for the Christmas trees. There are beautiful ceilings, floors, mosaics, stained glass windows, woodwork, and more to see inside. They are also building a Lego model of the cathedral, with people able to pay £1 per brick then actually contribute it to the sculpture. (Very innovative fundraising idea!) Make sure to check out the cafe - it’s an amazing atmosphere. Toilets, gift shop, and tours also available.

Hate religion but love religious architecture. This cathedral is absolutely stunning, and the staff are lovely too. Nothing was too much trouble. Definitely make sure you visit the cloisters and the lovely garden.

Absolutely stunning cathedral and it’s free entry. Lots of details about the history of the region and the importance of this cathedral. Nice posh cafe inside woth seasonal menus. The best highlight is the eagle wooden stand in front of the church speaker which looks like the owl one in the harry potter films.

This is the best cathedral I have seen in England. It is very large and beautiful both outside and inside. It is like a museum and quite inexpensive. We spent about one hour on the inspection. Here you can see a rare picture on a web, an old organ, silent bells as an exhibition, etc. Admission is just £3.

The most beautiful cathedral we visited on our tour of the UK. It was magnificent! A history dating back to 1092 with amazing architecture and woodwork. A must see if you are in Chester.

This Cathedral is wonderful and must be visited! The star of our visit was Emma who took us on the tour of the tower. Don't be put off by the number of stairs and narrow passages, the tour is broken by visits to balconies with views into the cathedral. Emma gave a concise, informative and clear history of all we saw. We loved Chester but the tower tour topped everything!

A very interesting cathedral to visit. The cafe is great in a large adjoining hall. The staff were very friendly and the quality of the food was excellent, plus it was very busy even at 3pm. At the moment they have a curious array of glass oddities from a local shop. Great to look at but not cheap.

It's a beautiful building and entrance is free. (Donations welcomed.) But inside is amazing. Ended up buying a book for more information (at the gift shop inside.) Theres a lot to see inside and it's so fascinating! Was snapping pictures like crazy as it's just so beautiful. Well worth going to see! ENJOY!

What a stunning cathedral! I've been there twice, it is worth the effort to see it. Really intricate design inside. Our group enjoyed seeing this amazing place. Even if you have visited many old cathedrals, you'll love this one.

It's just a lovely place to spend a few hours in no matter what your religion. I think what took me a bit off guard being from the States was how there were gardens around the main cathedral filled with children and couples just enjoying the sunlight!!! Didn't take any photos to not indrude!!📸

A beautiful cathedral that’s free to enter situated in the centre of Chester town centre. It’s a lovely little excursion for those that like to wander around historical religious buildings. The huge ornate pipe organ and stained glass windows are gorgeous, with the walk around the inner garden which is beautiful in the sunshine. Well worth a visit for those visiting Chester.

What an amazing place to visit. So much history and so well presented, with brilliant staff on hand. Everything is explained and there is a lot to learn. Highly recommended for anyone interested in religious history, social history or architecture.

A beautiful cathedral with plenty of history and tales. I was fortunate to have a solo tower tour - simply because no one else had booked. If your budget allows it, go up to the tower via the spiral staircases, belfry and galleries not normally open to the public. My tour guide, Matt, was knowledgeable and engaging. Highly recommended.

We can say its an archaeological treasure. A different experience of ancient cathedral.Recently experienced when i got an invitation to attend the graduation ceremony of one of my friend. Truly amazing and picture arts in the side walls are very fascinating.

Spent a great couple of hours looking around this beautiful cathedral, but it was made so much more interesting by our tour guide Howard. His interest for the long history of this past monastery and it’s change to a cathedral was evident, and they way he described the long construction of this amazing place and tried to involve us in its history was very enjoyable.

Amazing cathedral! It is extremely well preserved, the garden is wonderfully coloured in the spring season and all the small details that compose it creates an amazing place to walk and relax. You have very old manufacts and modern ones, such as the LEGO (yes, LEGO!) model of the whole building. Something you think to be in another epoch while you walk among the beautiful columns of some of its rooms... absolutely recommended!

Beautiful cathedral with very friendly and welcoming staff. On the day of my visit, the Dean actually walked around, talking to many visitors, wished them a good day. Ideal place for sitting/slowing down away from the bustling town outside. There are guided tours that I missed but will take them on the next visit.

Excellent cathedral, with stunning architecture and details. Highly recommended the Tower tour for detailed information on the cathedrals history, plus the stunning views from the top of the tower.

If you want to visit one of Britain's grandest cathedrals this is the place to go. Majestic on the outside and beautiful on the inside, whether your religious or not this building will leave you in a state of wonder. You can admire the majestic interior of the building or just sit in a quiet alcove and let your thoughts drift back into history to the times of the previous Bishops or even your loved ones of the past. It even has things for the children to see, including a duplicate copy of the cathedral which they are currently constructing in Lego. There is a shop where you can purchase religious artifacts and local jewelry and there is a cafe where you can get very good food at a reasonable price. You can also purchase a sandwich, drink or a meal to be given to the homeless, an excellent idea in which I participated. A visit not to be missed and if you can stay a few days you can explore the beautiful city of Chester.

Amazing visit to a jewel in the Northwest area! Fantastic building on its own, but with the added plus of a model railway setup to drool over. Had a great day with great mates and heartily reccomended a visit to this wonderful cathedral!

Went to Chester to walk the town walls and saw the beautiful cathedral and thought would pop in to see the Xmas trees on display, it was stunning and so was the garden. Exceeded my expectations. Impressed with the array of goods for sale in the Gift shop, would have liked to use the cafe but just missed it, heard an amazing choir singing/rehearsing too, added to the atmosphere. We used the, out of town, park and ride service. Free parking and 2. 50 an adult bus fare.

My wife and I enjoyed exploring Chester Cathedral during our stay in the historic city. Even from outside on the main shopping streets, the tall spires caught our eye and attracted us to pay a visit. Pre-Christmas, the visit was not free and required modest fee for the tree exhibit. Stepping inside was like going back in time. Tall stone arches rose high above us and it was remarkably quiet (maybe the entry fee or the cold day). The sunlight streaming through colorful stained glass windows was beautiful. Few friendly volunteers were there to help us learn more. The special exhibits for Christmas added holiday cheer, like a hallway filled with decorated trees. It was fascinating to learn about the building's 900 year history. Everything was well taken care of so visitors could appreciate the architecture and art up close. Whether interested in history, art or just looking for a peaceful place, the cathedral is worth a stop. Even without being religious, this place gave a sense of the past. The friendly staff made our visit more interesting too. Chester Cathedral should be on any visitor's list while exploring this historic town.

I went there last year to see Pete Waterman's railway layout. It was amazing to watch it all in action. While I was there I wandered around the cathedral and it was astounding to look at all the intricate woodwork and masonry. I never knew it was a Benedictine Abbey. Well worth going along.

It was a great opportunity to visit the amazing and eye-charming architecture of Chester Cathedral, surprisingly it was free for all visitors. The staff was kind and helpful, it was huge and had a lot of religious and historical inscriptions, and also rich in archaeological writings and symbols. It impressed me and I recommend visiting it to all those coming to the city of Chester.

This is such a beautiful building and quite rightly The locals are very proud of it. I was lucky enough to see it over the Christmas. and it was so beautifully decorated with an exhibition of Christmas trees from the local schools. It was just a beautiful sight thank, you Chester.

Finding Ones Inner Peace Our first stop in Chester was the Cathedral Church of Christ & the Blessed Virgin Mary with roots dating back to 1100. As we took a stroll through the sacred premises, a sense of peace and tranquility washed through us as we admired the washed out cobble stone floors and walls. What caught our attention the most was the beautiful stainless glass which glimmered as it caught the random rays of sun. Keep your eyes peeled as portions of the Cathedral have inscriptions dedicated to various individuals of significance. Wow what an amazing Cathedral! It is absolutely beautiful and steeped in history. You could spend half a day in here. History related to maritime, world wars, local history, wellbeing. The choir were rehearsing, what an absolute joy and pleasure, angelic. Lovely cafe and toilet facilities. There is even a bookstore and gift shop.

As Cathedrals go, as one would expect, vast and impressive. With some delightful embellishments of a non- religious nature.Not least the cafe . Austere, impersonal, and ,as a feat of engineering, remarkable. But I prefer the intimacy of the original cathedral, the church of St. John ,which I recommend

Love a walk along the dee in Chester City centre so lovely and peaceful plenty of places to sit and relax 😌

The River Dee in Chester is a recreational place of pleasure boat rides, walking , jog or just leisurely stroll aimlessly , crossing the bridges to get to either side of the river. Other then that , it’s a place to catch those beautiful moments whatever the time of day and in different seasons

Always good to visit the Dee and walk alongside it on sunny days. Chester has a great atmosphere with plenty of walks , good food and places to drink.

This river is amazing for kayaking. There are tough rapid sections as well as some easier sections. I would highly recommend this river for both newer kayaker as well as more experianced kayaker.

A lovely place to take a walk along the river. Quite and Serene. Somewhere to sit and take in the amazing view. A must visit location in the Chester city.

My husband and I walk down the river with our dogs quite regularly. It's beautiful. We start on the Meadows in Chester and walk for 6 miles along the river to a pub called the Grosvenor in Aldford. The path is well trodden and easy to follow. It can get a little muddy in places after a lot of rainfall but for the most part it's a nice easy walk. We sometimes start the walk in ecclestome at the car park that is right on the river as that is a much shorter walk. We see a lot of wonderful wildlife, birds of prey, deer and stag on the Duke's property, herons, commerants and all manner of other lovely nature.

This is a medium sized river that mainly flows in one direction only! Throwing sticks in here is a convenient method of removing fox poo from dogs. It's the ideal place to visit if you like rivers.

I take my dog every Sunday for a walk down the River Dee outstanding doesn't matter if is raining or sun's out it's calm and peaceful and lot of history around the area around the area

River Dee in Wales, Excellent Grayling fishing when conditions are right, would go as far to say that it could possibly be the best Grayling water in the country ! Either dry flies or nymphs take fish here (depending on weather), makes for a fantastic day or two, and with glorious scenery it never dissapoints.

When we called in there was only us in the Bar however were given a warm welcome to this old period establishment. Wife thought she would be a little nervous if only her in the premises and the lights were off, given the age of the building and the people and things that will have also graced the premises. Worth a visit

A very old pub situated upstairs. It's a laptop and phone free pub. People come to have a chat and also read a book.!! No music and can be a bit quiet. But if you like to chill out its a great place

Great to see a pub full of rules!! no phones, no tablets, no smoking (felt like I’d gone back in time), no children, no debit cards, no swearing, no laptops, etc. Interesting to see the ‘No children’ rule not being adhered to by staff as a child in school uniform stood behind the bar. I think I’d have more respect for the pubs/breweries ridiculous rules if they adhered to it themselves. Pub seemed to be divided in to two groups; local folk born within the city walls (this was actually a topic of conversation) and outsiders bemused by the rules, Scouse couple next to us seemingly felt the same as us, and as we were unable to discuss which Roman emperors had been born in or visited Chester we supped our pints (which in fairness were decent) and left for a better boozer.

Amazing Very old pub right on the main street in Chester on the Balcony. Nice to find somewhere with no technology allowed. So people were actually sitting together and talking. Nice Samuel Smith beer

Up the stairs on second floor. Long narrow bar. Very old pub, no side windows, very dark inside. Popped in for a beer which was fine and at a reasonable price. Toilets were upstairs. Enjoyed my visit.

Proper pub, really old, great drinks, cheap, staff are friendly. Greeted at the door and seated us with table service. Perfect place for a nice drink. No phones allowed out so you actually have to talk to people. I've lived in Chester for 10+ years and this has always been my favourite pub but I've not been in for a while. Definitely worth a visit if you're out in Chester.

Very strange going into a Inn that looks dark but isn't the ambience of the Inn is like being back in time, there's a sign saying no swearing allowed or you'll be asked to leave lol no mobile device or laptops ..conversation is preferred or drinking lol

We go to Chester for a weekend every year. This is our favourite pub. Good quality beer, great value, great atmosphere. Also digital detox is a great idea, I couldn't see anyone inside on their phones.

Full of history, plus cheap beer. When in Chester this is a must for a pit stop. Steep steps up but well worth the climb. Staff friendly and beer refreshing and easy on your wallet.

Sam Smiths pub, dimly lit, there's usual beers on offer, plus the threats of expulsion for violating their draconian "rules" around electronic devices. The Owner of this brewery is proper old school, and hates innovation.

Called in for a beer with friends, very old establishment typically old Chester, highly recommended but don't think about using your phone as they are banned.

Was unsure of this place at first it being no phones laptops etc but it got me and my partner talking having a laugh without the need of our phones it was just what we needed. I loved it very cosy and the cider was lovely and I love the character of the pub.

Lovely old pub on the rows but you are given rules to follow, one of them being no mobile phones or messaging devices. At first I thought fair enough until I noticed it didn't apply to people paying with their phone. All the beers are Sam Smith's.

Came for the family fun day. Bit of a mess when trying to get in as the machine wasn't scanning people's tickets. This was at gate 8. Some staff seemed flustered but some were very good. First time here for anything like this or even watching the horse racing. Would definitely come again as we had lots of fun and my toddler enjoyed it. Happy with how they put out so many portable toilets. Never had to wait which is good. Parked really close and was cheap too.

Stunning place! I actually was surprised at how well-kept and modern this racecourse is! Trilling experience to see the oldest racecourse in the UK. I would definitely come back some day to watch racing...

Wonderful day out with excellent hospitality in the Winning Post, ran out of flavoured gin though so had to go into another area to get it.

Went in the Tattersalls enclosure. Weather was a bit hit and miss, but hey, welcome to the North-West. Went home over £250 richer, so a good day was had by all. Drinks are a bit pricey, so moderated my consumption (yeah, right). Would deffo go again.

I have never been here before & it's not too far away from where I live, but what a great local discovery! We now plan to go here a couple of times in the year, and the atmosphere here is fun! What a great day out to the races. 🐎🐎🐎

Fantastic time at the races, there are two dates left at the race corse for this season 31st September and 14th October last one, so everyone come and enjoy the racing and entertainment at chester it's brilliant.

Excellent day out at the racecourse . Weather was beautiful , staff were very nice . It was very entertaining throughout the day . However the food quality was terrible . I had bought a hot dog for £7.50 and it was awful ! I understand that it is expensive to rent a stall at the races , however the prices are not justified for the quality (or lack of) of the food . I recommend better food stalls . Drinks are rather pricey too , but it’s what is expected from events as such . Would definitely return again , really enjoyed my time .

Always nice to walk around the racecourse as a way to the city centre. Admittedly not the most direct route but certainly one of the nicest. It’s amazing to see views of the bridge we always drive over from a different perspective, though I wonder what is missing from the empty bays on the side of the bridge! (Answers on a postcard please)

I walk by this almost every day. I've never been inside, though. On race days, this place is lively and very cool. Lots of people and the place becomes very colorful.

My last racecourses to complete the set, I loved it special atmosphere, well organised and has a wow factor, had tickets in county longroom great viewing of the races and easy access to other bars, only negative was my wife asked for a passion fruit martini in the bar, the lady opened a can and served it in a plastic pint pot and only charged me £8, 😀 up there with the best tracks I've been to, not the best card runners wise, but great day will be back asap

A beautiful, magic clock. One of a kind. Apparently, the tourist used to nick the hands from this four faced clock until they put glass on it. Not sure how true this is. It’s said to be the 2nd most photographed in England. Big Ben is the first! This clock was the inspiration behind the story: The Little Big Clockmaker.

It's at a good location in between the liveliest streets of chester. The clock looks nice with words written in golden color stating why it was built. There are stairs through which one can climb and go on this small bridge and have a photo with the clock

An absolutely beautiful clock that is rightfully an icon of Chester. You can see it from the street below or walk right under it - just climb up the city wall (for free, no tickets needed) to get a better view of it. The city walls are another attraction on its own that deserve exploring.

Walk along the ancient city wall and arrive the Eastgate Clock, I think nothing special, though a lot of shops around the clock, street musicians and performances, make this street very busy and popular. But need mention that many shops are closed

Second most pictured clock in United Kingdom to Big Ben and I can see why. Called the Eastgate Clock as located over the site of Roman Entrance called Deva Victres. Dated back to 1899 commerating Queen Victoria jubilee of 1897. Surrounded by medieval buildings make a sight to see and is a must if visiting Chester.

We followed Rabbie's day tour lead by Mr Chris, to Chester and Conwy, and this is one of the stops. Eastgate clock was awesome. We were here just to take a few photos of the clock and building around. Not for the history and architecture. We spend 5 minutes here

One cannot visit Chester without marvelling at the unique architectural heritage of the city walls. These were originally constructed by the Romans and have undergone many modifications in successive years. One of the most iconic segments of these walls is the Eastgate clock. From here you can gain some of the best views of the city and you can see up close the Victorian timepiece which must surely be one of the most recognisable images in Chester.

It's a beautiful bridge clock. You can go up on the walls and up to the bridge to get a better look at the clock itself. There are 2 sets of stairs tucked next to it either side, but definitely no disabled access as it is all stepped. Can be slippy when wet.

The eastgate clock on chester's old walls Is easily accessed by stairs either side of the bridge. It's definitely not easy for disabled people, and the stairs can be quite treacherous when wet. It is stunningly beautiful and the red stone walls are nice to walk around the city, giving you a nice elevated view away from the traffic. This Historic part of Chester is beautiful and definitely worth visiting.

Good museum in the centre of Chester. Medium in size, takes about 1 to 2 hours to get round, displaying lots of the history of Chester including Roman times etc Definitely worth a visit. Free entry but they more than welcome donations. No parking, so park on town car parks where signed. Small gift shop, toilets on site.

I like this museum very much. Sadly, the painters section was closed during my visit. This museum has got a great collection of pictures worth efforts and time to see them. I have witnessed great education action where school classes actively enjoyed learning the historical backgrounds of Chester. Place no fee entry. Donations are welcome and recommended. Nearby carpark. Buy tickets for all day and follow walk around city wals. Enjoy and feel Chester. Chester, it's a great place to visit.

A really fascinating museum. Lots to explore, interesting exhibits and we enjoyed the hour we were here. The staff were welcoming and helpful and made us feel very welcome.

It’s free and packed with lots of interesting contents. The speed of change was like stepping back 40 years with old TVs, Commodore PC and Betamax video machine. The history element is very well presented. It is in the city centre so easy to find. Great place to pass a couple of hours.

A very nice, original building in Chester. Made to a be a museum in the 1880's, the building itself is nearly as interesting as its contents.

When the teenager asks to go to the museum to have a look round as soon as she got off the train instead of the park. If that's what the teenager wants then not arguing with her as it kept her off her electronics whilst learning new things.

Really interesting mixture of items ranging from roman to natural history, mostly covering the history of the Chester area. Learnt so much about the city. Bigger than I thought and can easily spend over an hour there. The building itself is also beautiful. Free entry too.

Old-fashioned museum in terms of many displays and some exhibits but it’s free. The Roman tombstone exhibit is fascinating, with clear explanations of the designs and carvings on the stones. I also enjoyed the house museum at the back, although the floor arrangement is confusing, as it’s not in chronological order. Spent about an hour.

This museum is fantastic and so deceptively large. It’s biggest problem is it doesn’t advertise or sell itself well enough. We thought we’d explored all of it but then found an entire period house at the back of the shop. I loved the history of Chester rooms best and the temporary exhibition of technology through the ages

Great Museum. Loved the Speed of Change exhibition. Great items that brought back so many memories. Fascinating to learn about the Roman History of Chester. The tea room at the back of the shop was lovely. It was fun to explore the old house from the tea room. Will visit again.

A stroll through what was a formal garden where you can also, if you are lucky, see school children being put through the Roman centurion experience. Stroll on down to the river Dee and rejoin the battlements by the splendid bridge.

The gardens are well done for what they are, which includes a few Roman ruins and signage. There isn't a ton to see, and the items are not originally from this site (they're from around Chester more generally), but if doing the city walls walk it's easy to take a 5-10 minute detour to walkthrough.

Chester, Cheshire England Roman Gardens and the Roman Wall is a must see! Historical 16th century Roman history. Walk and stand on the very wall that Roman soldiers once stood and guarded the city more than 2000 years ago. Tour the Roman Gardens and the King Charles Tower. Enjoy lots of shopping and local eateries.

The Roman Gardens are located just to the right of the city walls. Easy can be had from a set of steps taking you down from the walls by Newgate. These gardens have been 'laid out' since 1949 and includes real Roman building fragments but these have been sourced from elsewhere in Chester.

I loved it here, the gardens are very well kept and tidy. The atmosphere is really quiet, we sat at the bottom near the central trees and could not hear the traffic at all. Would be nice for a picnic!

This place is great. The only falconry centre I know where you can pretty much point at a bird and before you know it you're holding it. There's other animals to hold too such as snakes, ferret's, turtles and much more. The shows are great and very hands on. All this for £15 for a family of four. Staff are so friendly and knowledgeable and can answer pretty much anything you ask relating to the animals they have. Set in the grounds of Chester cathedral, this is one of those hidden gems you must visit when in Chester. A truly well deserved 5 stars.

Absolutely brilliant. Family ticket £14. We stayed about 1.5 hours in the morning. Watched the demonstration (4/5 birds)and were able to take part in the demonstration. Also you can hold some of the birds with a glove on. Amazing! Beautiful birds. My daughter loved peanut the red footed falcon and wanted to go back. You are able to go back in on the same day too so we went back later to watch another demonstration which was with different birds. Hubby and I got to hold the golden Eagle...amazing! Fully recommend this place.

A little heavenly sanctuary smack bang in the middle of the city centre. Kids were entertained, and there was plenty of space for them to play and run around. We enjoyed it.

The immense weight of the vulture on my arm left me completely stunned, although what hit me most were the beautiful shiny feathers under the vulture's wings. The visit at the falconry centre was one of the most fascinating places I have visited. The centre provides an opportunity to engage with some of nature's most beautiful predatory birds and learn about their adaptations and skills. With life like demonstrations and knowledgeable guides it can be an educational and enjoyable way to spend the day. The centre is located within Chester's Cathedral in the the heart of the city centre. It's a perfect location to enjoy a day out with family and friends. Not only can you find out more about these amazing birds but the centre also provides you with the opportunity to get up and personal with the birds and really get to see their stunning features. After today's visit I've been left with an amazing feeling and I'd do it all over again.

Fabulous attraction in a beautiful setting. See the birds fly and also handle them. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble for them. Toilets and light refreshments available. Great value for money and a must see.

AMAZING! I love coming to the Birds Of Prey Centre. The staff are lovely and obviously are very keen over their work. Very good value for money, an awesome day out!

Absolutely amazing. One would never expect to find something like this in the middle of town behind the cathedral. Very inexpensive entry (£4 per adult) and staff are incredibly accommodating and will take time to explain and answer any questions you may have in depth. The flight displays are impressive and the birds seem to enjoy showing off. And if you're lucky and get there at the right time you will be able to hold Grace the golden eagle on your hand and pet the barn owl 😍

Best park ever. Great for biking due to the terrain that it showcases. Tons of hills and climbs, but also tons of hills to drive down, which go into bends as well. Granted, you need to be careful or else you can slide a bit, but overall, my favourite park. Also the scenery is amazing, and is well maintained. It also gives access to the River Dee as well, which is also quite good.

This park has flower beds galore and scurrying wild grey squirrels can be seen. It is located not far from Chester centre near the ruins of the Roman Amphitheatre. Season permitting there is a Cafe, miniature railway aswell as a pond. I always make a bee line to visit it and I highly recommend a walk there.

A new discovery for me and such a lovely park to visit. There's plenty to look at and great for families too. There is as miniature railway for the kids, and a cafe on site as well as toilets and plenty of benches to sit down. Very close walking distance to the shops and also the river. Highly recommend taking a walk around here on your visits to Chester.

Beautiful place to visit with the hole family. Love the information about the different trees and plants there. Loads of wildlife. There is a very nice coffee shop and the little train is fun to go on. The play area is good.

This is a nice park with a variety of areas to explore.

Impressive gardens perfect for a leisurely walk through, seating available and for children (and their parents) a miniature railway is a pleasant offering. Squirrels are plentiful and for the first time we saw members of the public feeding them by hand. Nuts I assume but one young lady was actually stroking the squirrel's back whilst being fed. What with the beautiful weather, and pleasant flowers arrangements, it was a restful couple of hours, but also some picture taking opportunities.

Very fascinating tour through roman chester in this great exhibition. The tour guide (archaeologist) was extremely knowledgeable and fun. Tours run hourly (I think), so so may be worth booking in advance if needed although we booked ours on the day and came back 45 minutes later for it after a walk around the nearby shopping area. Great value for money and the kids will enjoy it too, especially at the end with the hands on activities area. It wasn't very well sign posted so hopefully they manage to get some street signage on the main shopping street next to it ensuring more visited visitors find this gem.

Great knowable guys and girls on site a real treat

Great experience, the old excavation site underneath is awesome especially with the graphics that give you information all over it. Great for kids as plenty of kids activities for them to get involved. Will definitely be coming again. Even got kids dress up with loads of roman armour and accessories!

This has the potential of a really good experience. And although we did enjoy it, I felt that there could have been more 'hands on' as the description suggests. I was disappointed that there was no one inside to run the AV station. A lot more AV simulation throughout would have been really helpful. There really wasn't enough explanation.

Interactive experience, aimed more to children but we two adults enjoyed. Booking required to guarantee place as timed starts but we was able to walk in and get on next showing. Live actors take you back to Chester AD 49 when the Roman were there, talking about the food they ate, how they washed and visited the toliet. So if passing be a big kid and visit.

We did the Roman Soldier School with our 4 year old son and had a great time, with kids and parents grabbing shields and marching like Romans across Chester city centre, then practising sword drills and formations in the Roman Gardens, and even staging a kids versus parents battle! (about an hour total) Our guide was fantastic, yelling and screaming instructions and berating us for failing. The kids all seemed to enjoy it, learning how to form a shield wall and a turtle formation, and stories of poo floods.... I would highly recommend this tour to anyone with young kids.

We visited with two 2year olds yesterday and they loved it. The museum was very interactive, taking us around 1-1.5 hours to go around. It has been really well designed and there are some really fun exhibits. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was easy to push a pram around, just one small step. It was priced just right for the amount of time we were there, good value for money. I would highly recommend, thanks for a great visit.

Lots of things to read and look at, interesting facts for young and old alike. Easy to push a pushchair round, though unsure of changing facilities... Staff are friendly and knowledgeable! Great couple of hours trundling through history. We bought the multi ticket that includes the Sick to Death entry but have delayed our entry as we ran out of time!

A brilliant experience. Marching through Chester with a shield and foam sword. Not laughed so much for so long. Boys loved it and for 1hr 15mins followed instructions to the letter. Well worth a visit.

The place was brilliant with engaging actors that were in full costume. However, it's worth noting that it was card-only payment. Losing it a star. Overall, a great experience though!

Actors showing the Roman history of Chester - lots of detail and facts plus entertaining bits. It’s timed entry and takes about an hour. The archaeological bit at the end is also good.

Grear place for a walk. Was quiet when we walked it from near the mersey to near Chester. A few pubs too not far from the tow path.

Great place, It has a nice memorial spot for a dog named Mummy who apparently perished in a horrible way

Lots to see however the cycle path surface is bumpy and uncomfortable unless you have good suspension and seat. Very handy for town centre once yo arrive at the canal reception centre.Very nice canal. Some of it is accessible to walk and some of it not. Lots of scenery and wildlife can be seen scattered around also.I cycle 40miles a week at least along the cut

This canal has a very lovely ambiance. Lots of boat me for fishing and long stay. It’s has good access road and a car park. I enjoyed my brief exploration of this place. Pets like cats and dogs are also available. There is a boat that sells fishing equipment should you consider fishing. Pizza delivery services also available.

Nice view of the canal as it was crossed by the Greenway on the old railway alignment. Complete with a park bench nearby to sit on if desired

Love their atmosphere. Enjoy Christmas at Storyhouse. Cafe, library, theatre, cinema.. everything in one. If you come to Chester and look for staying a reasonable time indoor, then go to storyhouse. Kid, young adult, adult, elder, disabled are all welcome.

Brilliant community hub in Chester. It's got a cinema, theatre, library and cafe inside the one building. It used to be the old Odeon Cinema and it's good to see it breathing life once again. I just popped in for a meal and local craft beer, ended up chilling out here for over an hour.

My favorite place in Chester. A cozy spot to read multiple books on different topics, grab a snack and a drink in a cafeteria and enjoy a movie upstairs. Absolutely love it + a convenient schedule! I find it cool that the Storyhouse works till the late night time, so I shouldn’t worry too much about where to study at night.

Staff and volunteers here are very friendly. Outdoor seating is a nice touch. I love how they give away the film posters for free after they are finished with them. Went to see Rhod Gilbert tonight, first time at this theatre and it was a great experience. Lovely atmosphere and theatre was clean and well maintained. Can’t wait for our next visit 😊

Not many libraries like this around. This place blends modern cafe culture with reading and popular culture. This sets an example of how libraries should be seen. I feel this place will drive better engagement around libraries and the services they offer.

Visited on Saturday 28th may to watch the new Tim Firth play 'now is good'. Excellent cast and great play. Made me quite emotional, as well as it being funny. I asked at the bar if i could pass on my comments about how good it was and the young lady pointed me towards a gent at the end of the bar, Tim Firth. He was very gracious and polite. The storyhouse is s wonderful little theatre, very friendly and accessible. It wasn't a full house that night( due to the uefa champions league match) but the cast played as if to a full house. Staff are always helpful, amenities are always clean. Recommend both storyhouse and the play 'now is good).

I'm a software engineer who works from home. Working from home has its benefits and cons. As liberating as it might be, sometimes it feels lonely, and you feel burned out. Sometimes, you just want to be among people while you get your work done Storyhouse house has been my unofficial office for the last 4 months. You pop in, grab a seat, and stay for as long as you want without anyone bothering you. It's a lovely place with amazing staff. It always felt very welcoming for me. They have a kitchen as well where they sell some amazing food. The dirty fries and the hash browns are absolutely amazing and highly recommended. Go there on Tuesday and Thursday if you have a kid for some rhyming sessions.

Highly recommended with babies and kids. I always take my 7 months old baby to the library ☺️ Changing room and toilet in the library. Good food and nice staff in the cafe. I thought it is a dog-friendly place but unfortunately not allowed! If you are in Chester, It is the must-go place 😉 *The photo is taken in the kid's library.

What a lovely place and under one roof. Watched the performance of the Full Monty yesterday, it was brilliant! And for those who took along their other half no problem, they can sit, read or have a drink whilst one is watching the show, would definitely visit again.

I photographed a wedding at Storyhouse back in April and WOW! What a place. The staff were incredible at making Becky & John's wedding day extra special. The couple had quite an alternative day, featuring a humanist ceremony in the theatre space, stormtroopers, and a Mario Kart tournament on the big screen. They then had the party in the same room in with a live band in the evening. Everything ran smoothly, and the staff could not have been more helpful. I would highly recommend this place for a non-traditional wedding celebration. The building is also an amazing community space, with theatre, library, cinema, cafe and more.... and I can't wait to come back. I also enjoyed a coffee and cake in the cafe - the vegan options were fantastic. The also got to partake in the wedding food and it was sooo good! Here are a few photo highlights of their day. Visited for first time last night to see Keith Brymer Jones. Lovely venue. Friendly staff. Good leg room in seats (unlike some venues). Food looked good and bar area pleasant. Will come back again.

It's a brilliant place - looks ordinary even a bit ugly from outside but full of characters inside. It has a bar, a cinema, a theatre and a very lovely public library with laptop stations. The theatre is currently featuring "Pride and Prejudice (sort of)" - a fun play definitely worth seeing if you are in town.

Wow... just wow!!! Gorgeous dirty fries.🐄 Amazing selection of books as well. My waitress, Cally, was so sweet and attentive!! My one complaint was the lack of crab cakes on the menu. Rick Stein wouldn't approve, but as we know, Rick stein needs to learn the world doesn't revolve around him.#freerickstein

The food was abominable!! I had chicken thigh kebab. The chicken was raw. Made me gag. They replaced it but I didn't want it really. I had a little of the salad which tasted of fish. The cinnamon oil cake was horrible, and inedible for human consumption. Never again. The building may be subsidised and holds an emotional loyalty from the residents; but raw chicken and cake dipped in vegetable oil is emotionally sickening. As I said Never again!!

I had not heard of Storyhouse until I was passing through Chester & had a 4 hour wait for onward transport. It is a fantastic concept. Theatre, Cinema, Restaurant, bar & library, free WiFi, all in one building. All the staff were helpful & engaging. I was alone & many of the bar / restaurant tables were for up to 6 people. I was soon joined by a family of 4 & we chatted like old friends. The interior design is really welcoming & very well thought out as a social space. Can’t wait to go back & visit for a show!
