This is a beautiful cathedral in Toledo and well worth a visit. Entry is €10 and includes a audio guide (tickets are available in the shop opposite the cathedral entrance). It's a typical cathedral with grotesque wealth of the church on display, lots of religious art and paintings. There's a lot more to see than I expected too so not bad value for the cost.

No doubts, one of the most beautiful cathedral churches in the world, I’m too stunned to even speak and be able to describe the church because I think the photo or my word can’t do justice on how amazing and beautiful the sculpture/artwork is. It is definitely worth every penny to go into the church to explore and learn about it’s history.

This place is incredible! The cathedral itself is huge and took centuries to make. Every corner is ornate and beautifully crafted. Make sure to visit the art exhibits in the back, which feature many El Greco paintings.

By far one of the prettiest cathedrals I have ever visited. The sheer size of the cathedral was impressive on its own. I can't find it on any list, but it must be one of the largest cathedrals in Europe. The detail work throughout is wonderful. Beautiful Catholic Cathedral in the Gorgeous old town of Toledo. Unfortunately, the cathedral was closed due to restoration work being done (October 2021). Very impressive architecture with thousands of years of history, and the actual size is huge. The cost to visit inside the cathedral we were informed it is £10 euros. I will definitely go back when it is open to the public but also because the old town of Toledo is such a historic and amazing place, totally worth visiting 💯💗✅

The highlight of our day trip to Toledo. This cathedral had so much beautiful pieces to witness. The red hats hanging from above are where cardinals are laid to rest. We went with a tour guide, which I would recommend as there’s so much to take in.

I visited this Cathedral in June and stunning in all facets. I was amazed by its history and it is one of the most impressive Gothic cathedrals I have ever seen. The main facade is impressive, with portals decorated with sculptures and paintings. The interior is spacious and there is much light, with many stained glass windows, paintings, and sculptures to enjoy while walking through. The cathedral happens to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

An amazing building inside the gates of the old castle. You need a whole day to see all of the historic buildings, shops and restaurants. There is also many Hotels inside the gates. You can buy a bracelet for 12€, that gives you unlimited visits to all the attractions. Each attraction is 4-9 € alone.

I love how the Cathedral preserved many of the religious paintings, fresco, and sculptures on the church wall so it gives a much better context of the art. Decided to visit Toledo on a whim on our drive from Madrid to Cordoba. I think our biggest regret wasn't spending a day in Toledo properly walking the city. This place was GORGEOUS and the views were even better. Definitely worth a day trip from Madrid. One of the most underrated places on our trip. Loved loved loved driving through this city, cute and full of culture. There is a LOT of uphill walking so just be aware.

Excellent viewing point of Toledo. Caught the train vision tour for 8 euro which stops here as part of the tour. You can book in the main square. Look for the small pink kiosk. It leaves from a street nearby quite often throughout the day.

Amazing view! We drove there on a drizzling day but it still had a great view. Just 3 to 4 parking lots there along the road so you can just stop and enjoy the view.

A literal breathtaking view. Words can't describe how perfect this view is. If you're going to Toledo, you MUST come to this side of the valley to see the town across the canyon. It's very quiet and peaceful so you could easily spend an hour just taking in the view. There can be many tourists (myself being one of them) but there is a lot of space along the road for you to setup for your photos.

Gorgeous 15th century gothic architecture! I would recommend purchasing a €12 wrist band that includes entry to all 7 biggest sights in Toledo. This building has 2 tiers however, it’s very big so I would recommend visiting it at its opening hours to avoid tourists and visitors so you can take beautiful pictures.

A pleasant monastery but nothing exceptional. The main church was OK but we saw a great many that were better. The cloisters, usually a good feature of monasteries was ornate but quite small. One when passing not to seek out. More impressive lit up at night, but you can't enter then.

It has 7 organs, 3 of which are close enough to be played together. The large, elaborate montrance is taken out of its special room and paraded through town on the feast of Corpus Christi. The church itself was locked. All you're able to actually see is the El Greco painting in the lobby area. That's it. I had a Toledo Pass, so I didn't have to pay the entrance fee. But if I had to pay the 4€ I would have been pissed upon entering haha. Plus, both the lady at the entrance, as well as the lady at the exit were pissy and rude. Folks in Spain are either super nice or super not. And these two broads were super NOT, which wasn't a good way to start the day in Toledo. HARD PASS FOR ME!

Great museum of you love anything to do with the military, war or armies. Unfortunately, due to the museum part being under construction or renovation, we were not able to access it however the ticket was free due to that so it was worth the visit. The gardens here has a lovely view of Toledo and the gift shop had so many lovely books, military clothing and items.

I can't remember exactly why but I came on a day when there was free entry. Overall I enjoyed the museum. I would recommend for anyone that enjoys Spanish and/or military history. It took us about 2 hours to see everything. I have been to most of the Spanish speaking countries so it's great to see where it all started.

I learned so much here! I found out about a concept in art that hadn’t been depicted before El Greco in Spain (showing the entire city, and making emphasis on the most important buildings while holding a map of the city as well). And as a personal opinion, I found out that one of his followers, Luis Tristan, ended up creating works of art that surpassed his teacher. A nice place to spend the afternoon. Gorgeous building, green areas, and gardens.

If you’re a Greco fan, this is a must go place to visit as it has a vast selection of his paintings. If you don’t speak Spanish or understand it, you will find it hard to understand any of the signage as it’s all in Spanish which is a shame. However, I would still recommend a visit. I believe you have to pay for entry however we were lucky on the day and we didn’t have to pay an entry fee

I was disappointed because I thought there would be more El Greco paintings on display. There were just one room of the apostle paintings that he did when he lived in Toledo. The place was a recreation of his house, and it was very beautiful inside and out. There was an excellent history of his life’s story. If I knew all of his famous paintings were in other museums, I would have had a better perspective. I kept waiting to see more, and the next thing I knew it was over. However, it was just 3 euros entry, so totally worth it.

For people over 65 this museum is FREE! The paintings are fantastic. The home is unbelievable and the gardens during the spring time we’re awesome.

I have to give this 5 stars for its rich simplicity and authenticity. The house and cellars of the museum were decorated as if to take you back in time. The artwork is another added bonus to the museum. It’s not large but still is rich with works of art. I loved it and one Can visit, study, learn and not be overly tired.

This is kind of a low key museum but definitely worth checking out. The paintings are great to learn about since he was friends with Picasso. Some of his psi paintings are even on loan to Milan.

Shame. Extremely disappointed with the staff. Visited the museum and noticed a young man who hid a "Palestine" sticker under his coat, then took taunting photos with his friends in front of the exhibited artifacts from the expelled Sephardic Jewish community this museum focuses on. I found it unbelievably disrespectful: I would never go to a Muslim Community museum with an Israel shirt and take "F You" photos to taunt and disrespect that community. Note there is NOTHING in the museum about Israel or Palestine or the conflict in the middle east so this behavior was directly targeting Jews, which was offensive to me as a Jewish person who came to Toledo and this museum in particular to connect to the rich heritage and history of my people. When alerting a member of the staff (who hardly spoke English) to this, they said "this is okay, I don't see an issue". A second staff member (who also hardly spoke English) repeated the same thing, adding "this isn't a problem because it's a museum and not a synagogue". What?! Again, I dare any decent person to try this in a Muslim Community museum. I talked to another member of the staff (who didn't speak English at all) who said I should wait so I can complain officially. After several minutes they went away to look for either the young man or the first staff member so I could confront them (I am guessing, they didn't really explain what was happening). I was not going to stay and argue using Google Translate having already spent 15 minutes trying to explain myself to insensitive staff members. I left, upset and distraught. This to me was a low point in my trip and extremely discouraging and disappointing to experience from the staff of a museum which in my opinion is supposed to treat its subjects with some level of honor. I am ashamed and offended, the people running the museum should not be in charge if they can't find the fault in this situation. I will never set foot there again.

Finding this place was simply wonderful. I visited Toledo to know more about The Templar Order, but I found much more, even a Sephardi Museum. Peace and history cover every single corner of this place. Finding out more about Sephardi Jews has been very touching. Highly recommended if this is the kind of things you want to know about when you are on holiday. There is a shop, like in every museum, but in this one you will find food and typical Sephardi desserts which are delicious by the way.

An amazing building. Part of the synagogue has preserved it's Hebrew and Arabic original decoration. It was a bit bittersweet the story of "The Keys of the Sephardim" that appears in the picture I have shared. Long time ago, the rulers of Spain and Portugal banned Judaism and the Sephardic diaspora started. The ones that remained suffered continual threats by the Catholic Inquisition, a very aggressive legal system and public humiliation. Those Crypto-Jews received the pejorative nickname "marrano", that means "pig". They are the ancestors of the Bnei Anusim (Hebrew: בני אנוסים ספרדיים, "Children of the coerced"). The ones that escaped the Iberian Peninsula brought with them the keys of the houses, with the hope that one day they will be back home in Spain and Portugal. Centuries later, some Sephardic descents, by joining Zionism and its Ashkenormativity, made the same crime to Palestinians during the 1948 events, when thousands of Palestinians suffered a similar forced displacement by IDF under the command of David Ben Guirion. That is why the 🗝️ is one of the symbols of resistance in Palestine. History is, again, repeating itself. And that makes me feel deeply disappointed.

So I'm Jewish and from Israel too. I gather by meeting other tourists that we all think it's heart warming to see the people you are affiliated with in such a place together abroad as a place of gathering, for strangers from different lands. But the synagogue rich as it may be in history and culture, doesn't have as much dignity as the churches do (oh boy do the churches look astonishing). The synagogue seemed underwhelming, also the video and representation of judaism seemed so 'back in the day' and not what modern day Judaism looks like. Bought something from there (mini sword- you'll understand if you go there) make sure to keep your receipt. Otherwise the gift will be confiscated in the train station :/

Go see the synagogue and the museum, absolutely worth it. Pretty nice collection, with very good explanations of Jewish traditions and stages of life. Not entirely wheelchair accessible, which is a shame, but I think a good fit if you have children - the museum is not interactive but it has a lot of things that children might find interesting. Added bonus: some descriptions are in braille and some exhibits can be touched by blind and visually impaired people.

This old synagogue that is now a beautiful museum is worth visiting. You learn so much about the life of the Jewish in Spain. What I particularly love is the way that the 3 religions lived together in harmony. I wish this spirit would come back someday. I recommend.

The Sephardic Museum of Toledo is situated in a beautiful historical building that used to be the El Tránsito synagogue. The wall decorations, the windows, the ceiling and the delicate columns are all remarkable in their own right. Even if you're not particularly visiting for the museum's collection, a walk through the building is essential. It's well preserved and definitely worth the visit.

Our day trip to Toledo culminated with a visit to the Tránsito Synagogue from the 6th century, built with dimensions proportional to the Second Temple. The wooden ceiling is comprised of Lebanese cedar, and is original. It is supposedly a replica of the ceiling of the Second Temple, as specified by Simon HaLevi at the time. This is by far for the oldest and most intact Sefardí synagogue, and it survived the Inquisition, the Holocaust of the time beginning in the late 15th century, due to HaLevi’s political influence. The small but informative Museo Sefardí is housed in the museum complex, and worth a slow walk through. Don’t miss the memorial garden with recovered Jewish tombstones that have been used for house construction in Toledo after the inquisition.

One of the most singular interiors I have ever experienced. Is it a mosque? Wait, it's Catholic Church with sublime Moorish design? I'm so confused? Don't be! Just be amazed and enjoy the sublime, calming beauty of this architectural wonder that began life as a synagogue. It's a dazzling jewel, a fever dream of light and lightness, a place to contemplate and rejoice. One of Toledo's most beautiful sites, don't miss it.

Excellently preserved and beautiful example of a house of worship at the crossroads of 3 religions and cultures. The history of how it went from a Jewish synagogue constructed with Moorish influences then converted to a Christian church after the Jews were driven from Toledo was fascinating yet told the tale of discrimination and suffering. The architectural details inside are beautiful and I enjoyed my visit very much.

A rich history and captivating architecture. As a synagogue turned church, one can appreciate the cultural significance of this site. Strong Moorish influence, horseshoe arches and geometric patterns, a real journey through time. It is a bit crowded but generally it is easily accessible.

After a visit to Toledo I would thoroughly recommend buying a book by María Rosa Menocal … “Ornament of the World”. It puts into context the entire landscape of Christian, Moslem and Jewish communities which existed in Andalusia in the years from 750 to 1492. It is well worth adding to your shopping bag along with one of the wonderful guide books, or picture books which can be purchased locally or on-line.

There's not much to this Synagogue. What you see in the Google maps photos is all there is to it. Just one big empty room with moorish arches. If you've already purchased the tourist band then fine. Otherwise I'd recommend spending your 3 Euros at the Monasterio de San Juan just along the road which is much more interesting.

The name of Sinagoga de Santa María La Blanca is somewhat confusing. Here is what is supposed to be a Jewish synagogue with a very Catholic name. Like many other places in Toledo, what was once a synagogue or a mosque is now a church. Sinagoga Ben Shoshan is the original name of the place. It's a very simple building, but the inside is quite attractive. It only uses 2 colors, namely white and gold, a striking combination. Santa Maria La Blanca is one of 7 places that you can visit on the tourism bracelet of Toledo. The price is 10 Euros. It's valid for 3 days. A wise investment.

We were charged 4€ each. We had no background info. There was no guidance or signs in English. When I went back to enquire I was told we had to pay another 1€ each to get guidance. I decided not to bother as we had already paid too much and apart from the building there was little to see. .

If you bother to go you must have already known some history of this “church” that was originally a synagogue, which is a unique testimony to the intense Jewish-Christian history in medieval Spain. It is run by a Catholic church—no wonder there is no decent explanation of, or even a leaflet guide to its history and interior remains. Luckily I joined a tour and our guide was excellent.

This synagogue is located in the old Jewish quarter of Toledo. It was constructed by Jews in a Moorish or Mundejar style. It was later converted to a Catholic Church. Presently, it functions as a museum and is a popular wedding venue. Our guide told us that there is a 2 year waitlist.

A beautiful 12 century synagog that has symmetrical architecture. If you purchase a €12 wrist band which includes all entry to the 7 biggest sights in Toledo, it’ll be worth it. The ceilings at the end of this synagog are precious with paintings.

Beautiful, historic and a great river walk along the might Tagus. Be sure to take the paths, rock stairs etc. that lead to the river and under the bridge itself (on city side) and along the banks in the far side. Tranquil and picturesque. Note:. There appears to be a Black Madonna on the city side tower as you cross.

Interesting bridge crossing the Tagus River into the ancient city of Toledo. We visited in July 2020 when there were very few tourists around due to the pandemic and strict entry requirements for Spain. Having it all to ourselves, we spent lots of time studying the little details throughout the bridge. It is a definite must see when you are visiting Toledo.

Beautiful spot to enjoy a morning or an afternoon here. Only 35 min train ride from Madrid and the trip is so worth it. Highly recommend.

Terrific views and an interesting sense of history as you cross under the defensive towers at both ends of the bridge. A well-preserved old water mill is visible on the edge of the river below on your right-hand side as you cross into the city.

From this point, you can have a great view of the city. It was erected in the 14th century to replace transport by wooden boats crossing the Tagus. The bridge was destroyed during the civil war in Castile between the brothers Pedro I and Enrique II. It features five pointed arches on large pillars, with hexagonal towers at their ends.

This is the most touristy point in Toledo. It is easy to find tours and sightseeing offers in the square. There are several cafes and restaurants. Also, you can find city sightseeing tours here.

Too crowded and nothing to see. If you want to eat in the restaurant, go through the passage down the stairs and then to the right. There you'll find some small not so crowded restaurants.

Nice square. The lighting is cool at night. There was a Palestine protest and a night running race that were cool to see.

The Puerta de Bisagra is a city gate of Toledo, Spain. The structure was constructed in the 10th century, in the time of the Moorish Taifa of Toledo in Islamic Al-Andalus. It is also called 'Bisagra Antigua' to distinguish it from the Puerta de Bisagra Nueva which was built in 1559.

If you travel to Toledo, Spain by high-speed train, you will see this beautiful building, built a hundred years ago, but so lovingly preserved that you could believe it was inaugurated six months ago. Other than that, it is the gateway to one of the most beautiful cities in Spain.

The railway reached Toledo in 1858. The original station was of functional design. The present station opened in 1919 or 1920. It was designed to echo the historic architecture of the city. The central section is flanked by two side naves, one of which is adjacent to the clock tower, which imitates the style of Toledo church towers. The station has been declared a Property of Cultural Interest and classified as a monument. It was restored in the twenty-first century in connection with the inauguration of the Madrid–Toledo high-speed rail line in 2005. Among the medieval cities of Lunda, if there is a bridge that catches the eye overwhelmingly, it is the Alcantara Bridge. To see this bridge, we had to stop a taxi on the way from our hotel to the city. The next day, we arrived at the train station early and went back again. A scenery we didn't want to miss caught our eye and we cheered.

A day visiting the UNESCO rated hilltop city of Toledo with its cathedral and Alcazar. To be honest though whoever thought of building a cathedral at the top of a 500m hill and the car park at the bottom needs speaking to. At least they put in escalators all the way to the top though (honest 🤷). Stunning, stunning place. The views from Alcantara bridge are a bit special so don’t miss a visit to that! World Heritage Sites. No 5. Historic City of Toledo. A Roman municipium, the capital of the Visigothic Kingdom, a fortress of the Emirate of Cordoba, an outpost of the Christian kingdoms fighting the Moors.

There is a great view of the city from the bridge, especially during sunset. It is one of the entrance gates to the city. The Alcántara Bridge is a Roman stone arch bridge spanning the Tagus River. It was built between 104 and 106 CE.

If you visit Toledo this bridge is a must walk across, around and don’t stop until you get to the San Martin Bridge on the other side of the city. The paths are great and the the panoramica views are stupendous. You get to view the city in its entire wonder!

It was smaller than I thought it was going to be, but it’s only 3 euros to enter. It’s still worth it and pretty/interesting to see. There’s a really nice view too.

This former mosque was recommended to visit by a local, but I didn’t feel it was worth it. It’s essentially a small room with bare walls and a hanging fixture of Jesus. The view of the city in the garden area can be seen for free in other parts of the city. Perhaps the only thing looking at is what remains of the Arabic calligraphy on the outside, but you can just walk by to see that.

I loved this place. While small, it's full of history. Make sure to use the QR to get free talking guide that gives you theback story.

Although admittedly mesmerising, there is too Little to see. Super tiny. it gets extremely crowded as soon as a big group comes in. The group leaders would do better having their explanatory chats outside.

The Mosque of Cristo de la Luz is a Catholic chapel and former mosque in Toledo, Spain. It is the one of the ten that existed in the city during the Moorish period. The edifice was then known as Mezquita Bab-al-Mardum, deriving its name from the city gate Bab al-Mardum. It is located near the Puerta del Sol, in an area of the city once called Medina where wealthy Muslims used to live. Built in 999 in Toledo, this building is a rarity in that it is in much the same state as it was when it was originally built.[1] The original patron was Ahmad Ibn Hadidi. The Arabic inscription in Kufic on the building states that Musa Ibn Ali built it. The inscription is written with brick in Kufic script on the south-west façade reveals these details of the mosque's foundation: Bismila (in the name of Allah). Ahmad ibn Hadidi had this mosque erected using his own money requesting a reward in paradise for it from Allah. It was completed with the aid of Allah under the direction of Musa ibn Alí, architect and Sa'ada, and concluded in Muharram in 390 (Islamic calendar).[3] Legend has it that a shaft of light guided the king to a figurine of the crucified Christ that had been hidden for centuries. He left his shield there with the inscription, "This is the shield which the King Alfonso VI left in this chapel when he conquered Toledo, and the first mass was held here". The legend says that King Alfonso VI arrived in Toledo after his victory of capturing the city in 1085 when his horse fell in front of this chapel. The story tells that candle has been continuously burning in the cracks of the stone wall throughout the entire rule of Muslims and when the King further explored the place he discovered a crucifix. The crucifix was moved to the Santa Cruz Museum located in the same city. It is said that the first mass after the King’s victory of Toledo was held here. In 1186, Alfonso VIII gave the building to the Knights of the Order of St John, who established it as the Chapel of the Holy Cross (Ermita de la Santa Cruz). It was at this time that the mosque was renamed and the apse was added

Historical places since 999 in Era of Andalucia Islamic state but when the Cristian take over they changed to church , it's was called masged bab almardum in toledo but now called mezquita de Cristo de la Luz . I recommend this this for Visit and the entry fees cost only 3 euros pre person, also the view from above is stunning.

This place was a real surprise to me. A whole Muslim moskee surrounded by a catholic church was beautiful to see. Even though the believes where another ones the whole structure stayed intact. This can only happen when your hart is full of love. We came here with a guide to understand more and after on our own to re- discover what we have learned. They also have a beautiful garden and a nice panoramic view, plus points to visit this Mesquite.

Small but beautiful mesquite in Toledo, Spain. Add it to your list of to-dos in Toledo. You may need less than an hour to go in and out. It's a pretty and interesting story. Tickets in most of Toledo's attractions are 4 Euros. Headphones are one Euro.

Dear readers, when visiting Madrid you must take a day trip to Toledo…it’s honestly a fairy tale…I felt I was transported to a medieval time, and knights were going to start walking around the tiny streets. It was absolutely breathtaking…set on a hill, surrounded by the original walls, built as a fortress….with the river below. Then you happen to stumble upon this beautiful mosque, one of the oldest after Cordoba…we honestly had no clue it was there. I hadn’t done too much research before we went, I just knew from pictures I had googled that Toledo is a gem. So, this was a real treat…we went in, rented the guided tour, and are so glad we did. It gives you the history from the beginning to end when it became a church…just like Cordoba mosque, it has both Christian and Muslim history. It has a exceptional view as well…with a lovely garden that has a gentle water fountain that relaxes you, I just wanted to sit there and enjoy the breeze….a must visit when visiting Toledo…

This was an awesome location. It's not large, but it has a very unique history. We used the tourist wristband so all of the sites cost us a total of €12/person. I *think* without the band it was €3 or €4 per person, but didn't pay attention once I had purchased it. The audioguide is an extra €1 each, but it's absolutely worth it. The history of the mosque turned church and how the Muslim and Christian influences impacted the building is very interesting. In addition to the church, the gardens and the view over the river and valley are fantastic.

Mezquita del Cristo de la Luz is located next to one of the gates of the walled enclosure and is fully preserved. It is one of the most important monuments of Spanish-Muslim and Mudéjar architecture in Spain, and the most significant example of Islamic art in Toledo. We could not see the interior. I have no idea what's inside. If you want to take a look inside, you need to pay 4 EUR. This monument is part of the Pulsera Turística (Tourist Bracelet) offer, with which you can visit 7 monuments in Toledo.

The lady on our tour guide recommended this place as a must visit on our trip to Toledo, but was not much to see. To be honest. There was a nice Christ hanging with the light in the background which represents the name of the mosque, but for 8 Euros I could have passed. No offense at all

It’s a historical architecture with military museum. In my opinion, it’s not first priority to visit. If you have enough time in Toledo, you can consider it as a option. As of January, 2023, they were under renovation, so it was for free to enter. But it took around 1 hour and half to see all exhibits. By the way, their entrance is the north side of building.

From ancient ruins to a cloister to a military museum, the Alcázar de Toledo has it all. Its dominant presence is adorned with a little garden on one side that offers sweeping views of the region. Highly recommend

City of Toledo is a beautiful place. So much history here to see, the shops have replicas of different swords from different periods. In the old city the roads are narrow so I dont recommend driving through the city, find a place to park and then walk.

If you like this review give it a 👍 Impressive building with a lot of history which is very well displayed. Its a military museum so everything is about......you guessed it. A lot of information, and basically to music to discover in short time. You need at least 3 to 4 hours to discover it all. Well worth your time and effort.

Was able to see only a few floors of this historic building due to a fire and renovations. A must-see when in Toledo.

Set on a very steep hill, as you walk towards it just appears, looks medieval, there are severall options to get up to the centre they all involve lots of steps! Once there, there are cafes, restaurants and shops. Marzipan shops are quite popular. There is a train ride for €30 per person which will take you around all the sights and then takes around the entire perimeter of The old town.

There are some really good exhibitions here however you should check online to see if the main fortress is open as there had been a small fire recently limiting where in the building you could go.

Definitely with a visit in Segovia. We purchased tickets when we arrived and had the percent amount of time to do the audio tour before our assigned time for the tower. The tower has great views. You have to be okay with 150 spiral steps. The audio tour is good (not as amusing as Ghent but informative). The rooms are beautiful, love the ceilings. Be sure to check out the stork nests in the trees out front.

A beautiful museum for lovers of military history. It takes a good few hours to get through it.

OK, I didn't go in -- it houses a military museum. But it's immense and pretty at night, so it is impressive. Sadly, it pales in comparison to the Alcazar in Segovia which I'd visit a few days earlier. If you have 48 hrs to live go there, to Segovia. Toledo as a whole is pretty great though, so don't despair for it.

The alcazar is currently closed due to a fire. You can enter the museum for free but honestly there isn't much to see on my opinion. Maybe worth a half hour stop.

Current headquarters of the Army Museum in the city. Its construction dates back to Roman times. During the reigns of Alfonso VI and Alfonso X the Wise, it was rebuilt, giving rise to the first square plan fortress with corner towers. With Emperor Charles V it was rebuilt again, this time by the architect Alonso de Covarrubias. The facades are Renaissance, with turrets and defensive merlons, built according to the first features of Alonso de Covarrubias and later Juan de Herrera. After the last rebuilding, it houses army offices and the museum.

Not impressed. The Alcázar’s entry is through Museo de Ejercito. It’s essentially three floors of mostly colonialism war history, has some remnants of aqueduct ruins, and only the top floor has anything related to the Alcázar. The permanent exhibit, however, was closed. I liked the view from the jardines but you can actually see a better view from outside the palace.

The city of Toledo is rich with history from many cultures. It is a beautiful intact walled city with original buildings. Worth a visit of more than a few short hours.

During the Spanish Civil War a few military personnel and a number of civilians took refuge at the Alcazar and endured a long siege by the Republican forces during which an epic fight raged on. Some legendary episodes still echo from those days. All in all the Alcazar is both a great fortress and a symbol.

In 1521, Hernán Cortés was received by Charles I at the Alcázar, following Cortes' conquest of the Aztecs. Alcázar is Castle in Arabic. Along the Mediterranean coast, there are half a dozen Alcázar dotted over the coasts during the long history between Moorish and Reconquest controls. This Alcazar in Toledo also serves as a military museum and have some tanks and guns displayed in the garden area. It has an aerial view of Toledo as this castle is at the highest peak of the city.

Must visit the old town of toledo 😍. Very nice atmosphere there especially during autumn 🍂 season. You smell the history and amazing allies there. Loved the old houses there

I’m not sure why one one commented on that Alcazar is closed due to fire last year. Instead they opened armory museum but it’s very small and has free entrance. Good place to warm up and use bathroom.
