Nice place. I visited around 10am. Cathedral was closed for public because of some function inside ( might be wedding). I couldn't see the tinted glass walls. The cathedral was looking heavenly with the colours from the background mountain and the sunrise.

Walking through the bridge, the cathedral is just in front of. A triangle white shape with couple layers on the side makes it so special and modern. it is one of the landmark in Tromso. Except walking by, you can take local bus of 26.

Beautifully lit Cathedral at night and the architectural structure makes it stand out from all the other buildings in Tromso. I have seen many Cathedrals across the globe and this is definitely the most stylish and modern design of them all, well it has to be as it doubles up as a concert hall! I did not enter the Cathedral as other reviews stated the inside was nothing special. Well worth a walk around from the exterior you will not be disappointed!

Very nice visit to this iconic Tromso landmark. We arrived having walked across the bridge from the centre. Unfortunately on our arrival we discovered it was closed to the public due to a funeral. Luckily we had other plans so we're able to return a few hours later when it had reopened. Would recommend if in the area.

I really recommend you to go and see this beautiful cathedral. I really liked the architecture inside, it was so modern, airy and above all cheerful compared to traditional cathedrals! The entrance costs about 7€ per person and you will have a souvenir shop selling some items that are not typical for Tromsø and the region. Go at the end of the day to get less crowded or else in the middle of the day to see the zenithal light through the beautiful big windows. Either way, you won't regret your visit as it is a beautiful monument and well worth a visit.

One of the most iconic landmarks of Tromsø, the cathedral stands tall and proud as the first thing you see when you cross the bridge. The interior is honestly nothing too impressive with completely white walls which basically also is the roof. But the entrance isn’t that pricey so you might as well enter if you are there while it’s open anyways. But the shape does actually make it very atmospheric and mesmerising when there is a concert inside. Do check if there are any upcoming concerts which you might be interested in, occasionally there will be traditional music or choir in there :))

Beautiful architecture yet very simple and intimate. I really liked not seeing Jesus on the cross in the conventional way it usually is in Christian churches. The shape is harmonized with the mural making it one of the most unique churches I've visited in the world. Ace told us the history of how the church was built, how hard it is to clean the windows due to it's shape. They had to hire professional mountain climbers to do that! About the mural and organ additions later on. The meaning of the numbers on the walls and a lot more interesting information. There's a changing display. Currently, it's beautiful local photography. Opening hours change on short notice sometimes (funerals / christening). I highly recommend calling ahead or checking their website. Usually, it's 13-17 (Wed 14-17). Parking is free behind the church. Bathrooms are available. The only unharmonized part for me is - I would much rather donate 70kr (probably more) than pay at the entrance. I always thought paying to go into church just depicts the whole concept of a house of God hence the 4 stars.

We visited this church just before heading back to the airport. We regreted not spending more time at this place. It was a quite unique place. We would have loved to attended the Christmas 🎄 lighting which was happening the day after we were leaving. I would recommend attending a concert or sunday service here. It would be an amazing experience 🤗

A major landmark in Tromso (the other side of the big bridge) . It costs 80NK to get in and apart from the large feature stained glass window , the rest of the building will leave you cold . The architecture is great externally, but it's featureless, dull and boring on the inside. There are toilets in the building which is a plus and the views from outside are great. Other than that it's one to miss

Such a joy to visit this incredible cathedral. I lit votive candles and prayed whilst listening to the Tromsø orchestra rehearsing. The stained glass window is spectacular and it simply felt so spiritual to be offering thanks from this frozen place of extreme beauty.

Visited on a Sunday evening and it was pretty quiet. The architecture is impressive, but mostly from the outside. I'd say it's not worth paying the 70NOK (£5.5) to go inside, it feels pretty empty and the exhibition downstairs was a missed opportunity to make the visit interesting. I'd have liked to learn more about the history of the cathedral instead.

A very unique landmark of Tromsø, however not open to the public at all times to enter. It's exterior architecture is the main interesting factor and that is perfectly visible from the outside. It is accessible from Tromsø either via walking over the long main bridge, or via taking the bus to Tromsdalen.

It’s clearly a tourist attraction but there is no information about it. And you have to pay 70 NOK per person. It has interesting architecture.

The Arctic Cathedral is absolutely amazing, in the looks from the outside and breathtaking on the inside. Inside the cathedral is vast, and you can see across from the entrance to the back. There is plenty of seating, both the pews and other seating near the front. Downstairs there are photos of the construction and designs of the cathedral; which can be accessed by steps or a lift. You can easily get to the cathedral by bus, car or by walking across the bridge. If you can go across the bridge, there are lots of nice views of the cathedral and Tromsø. I highly recommend it while visiting Tromsø.

The Arctic Cathedral is breathtaking, both inside and out. It is a very modern construction with clean, elegant lines. I visited as part of an excursion booked through Hurtigruten Cruises. I would recommend timing your visit to avoid bus tours.

A modern Cathedral resembling a traditional Sami tent dwelling. The Cathedral is in a prominent position at he end of a road bridge connecting to the main island where Tromso city centre is located. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to it over the bridge from the city. Inside the gaps between the concrete wall panels are connected by steel members to model stitching. It has a modern interior with large chandeliers over the central nave, and a modern stained glass window over the altar. You can have a sit down at the rear of the building before returning over the bridge, which can be quite chilly in winter and spring. Also there is a basement with toilets if you need them which are open to visitors.

Loved the Arctic Cathedral. It is without a doubt one of the most iconic landmarks in Tromsø . You also get really amazing views of the bridge and the city from the viewpoint of the church. The church itself is a modern creation with its aluminum coated concrete panels giving it the interesting form that it has. Should be a go to place if you are in Tromsø .

Amazing architecture and views of Tromso. Catch any bus beginning with 2x (20, 24, 26, 28) but make sure you're going in the right direction, i.e., buses which do NOT say Flyplassen...I recommend the stop outside Peppes Pizza.

Small but nice aquarium. You will need 60 to 90 minutes to see everything ...Highlight of the Polaria is the seal feeding which takes place 3x per day, last 3:30pm. Aquarium closes at 4pm. The fish feeding is also quite interesting. And there is a 120 degree cinema that shows 3 different movies. Public Parking is available in front of Polaria. Cost approx. 2,1 EUR per hour. This is a small aquarium that focuses on the arctic sea life around Norway. The exhibits are well done with easy to see fish and animals and detailed and interesting descriptions. The theatre offers 3 short films highlighting the region including the Northern Lights, Svalbard, and an insider’s view of the aquarium. Tourist buses arrive around the three daily seal feeding and training sessions. Best to time your visit to end with the seals so the other exhibits are less crowded.

The exhibition is mainly an aquarium, a pool with seals and a cinema with some movies over the wildlife of the northern Norwegian region. We would've loved to see more stuff over the Polar and it's climate and the research work performed there. The seal show is three times a day and quite fun if not too crowded.

Cute seals, and an interesting! You can learn a lot about global environmental problems and see with your own eyes what is happening now and what happened in the past 30-40 years, how much ice melted, how much the level of water raised and how quickly wild animals losing their environment.

Polaria in Tromso, Norway is an architectural marvel that perfectly represents ice sheets in its design. While the interior is beautiful, featuring seals and a few exhibits, the variety of things to see is somewhat limited. However, the panorama area offers an enthralling short documentary on Svalbard's wildlife, which made the visit worthwhile. Overall, Polaria is a captivating and unique attraction that's worth a visit.

The museum is very nice. You can see several live seals there and attend feed show. There is a cinema with aurora and Svalbard movies. The best movies I've seen in whole Norway. Seal pole is going to be even larger soon. Worth to see!

A nice but fairly small aquarium, that is currently being extended so some parts are closed. The nice thing is all the exhibitions are arctic sea life. The panoramic cinema is very informative so is the Seal training and feeding. The entrance price is very reasonable. It is worth a visit.

Wonderful little place. You get to see the beautiful seals play and have fun in general. A must visit place, especially if you got children, as they will love the fishes and the seals. They have small shows about the auroras and arctic life, as well as feeding sessions a couple of times a day. Check up on what's planned for they day on their website. As of the time of writing, they are also in the process of adding new seal pools including an outdoor one, so definitely exciting.

Its beautiful and unique building. The staffs are so friendly and they will inform you when is the time for seal feeding and time for the cinema that shows about some short movies. Basically its a small aquarium exhibition about Nordic sea animals. They have several fishes and seals, and they put the detail description on each of them which is interesting. The small cinema shows 3 short films about the Northern Lights, Svalbard, and an the animals in the aquarium. You should see the seals feeding. They are so cute. Best time to go there is on weekdays so it wont be so crowded.

Great place if the weather is bad. Otherwise I wouldn't mind to miss it. If you have kids, they'll love it as they can explore sea life and run around. You can even touch some anemones and sea stars. Panorama cinema was probably cool 20 years ago, nowadays some videos are quite outdated. Seal's feeding is not a show, so don't be disappointed. They perceive it as an actual feeding with respecting the animals (which is positive). Might get pretty crowded when weather is bad. Movies are projected every 30 minutes. 3 short movies are rotated. Feeding is 3x a day.

A wonderful half-day trip destination if you are in Tromsø. I can definitely recommend it to anybody and especially families with kids. For me personally this was the highlight of my Tromsø visit. The aquarium in of itself is not that big, in regards to large animals/mammals it houses 2 harbour seals and 2 bearded seals. The bearded seals are rarely kept in captivity, so this is a unique chance to take a glance at their beautiful "mustaches" that give them the name bearded seal. There is a seal feeding 3× a day, which I suggest you should not miss out on! They have some smaller water tanks which house some smaller fish, starfish and shellfish. The entire place is kept at a chilly temperature so the animals feels comfortable, so I can recommend that people who run cold easily, should bring a vest with them. The aquarium offers some interactive learning stations for their guests and a cinema which shows 3 different short movies on repeat through out the day.

I had a ticket through the culture pass I purchased. I would have never come here otherwise (or to the Polar Museum). It's a small aquarium. Staff is very nice. sadly the gift shop was the best part. The tanks look murky, small and uninviting. Information is provided in English and Norsk. Movies are nice and informative. Worse part for me was seeing 5 seals confined in a really small aquarium. Low ceiling, no natural light whatsoever or fresh air. It's just wrong and very sad. They are left there for 12-16 hours a day by themselves once the aquarium is closed. I get so agitated with the conditioned feeding circus show "turn around get a fish" "clap get a fish" "play dead get a fish" etc. I left at the middle of the feeding. The rest of the space at the aquarium is small and very basic. Paid parking only. Bathrooms available. Coat and lockers available. An hour is plenty. I do not recommend it. Go on a Fjord cruise or whale watch cruise you'll enjoy mammals and local animals in their natural habitat the way it's supposed to be.

I was excited to go there, but once i got there unfortunately it wasn’t wow. The lady from the entrance gave no information whatsoever, not even which way should i go. Inside there is not that much to see , the aquarium and some other things. There is a cinema inside where they play some short movies , that was cool.

A very small museum on the shores and has few seals and a small aquarium. You get to view a 15 minute video about the landscape of Northern Tromso. The aquarium has few salmon and crabs but their highlights are their seals. They steal the show with their playful nature and show off when you talk to them. Plan your visit to align with their feeding time and you will enjoy the show. I was surprised by how they are trained and can respond to the trainers commands..

We only had an hour before it closed due to our ship arriving late, but had to pay full price 🥴. We just made the last seal feeding show which was good. Loved the big blimpy bearded seals!! The interactive exhibits were also quite good, but the live exhibits were few in number compared to other aquariums we have visited around Norway and the rest of the world. The moon jellies were a little uninspiring as we have experienced much better ones with striking lighting. The shop was good though.

One of the most northerly aquariums anywhere. It's a Family friendly and multi lingual site, with some of the friendliest people you will meet particularly the lady on the till and katrine who did the ' ice to see you ' event, where you feed the seals ice. My partner loved it . The aquarium is not large (though is expanding) and it concentrates on local aquatic creatures and environmental issues facing the area. Fantastic day out

Very cozy and small museum with an interesting way of explaining how humans affect the entire planet. I think this is the most important part of the museum, to reflect on our behavior and our choices (note aside: sadly not many read or pay attention to anything but that's how it is nowadays, nobody reads in detail 😭). Cinema: The cinema part was also a nice distraction and a bit of a break from the entire crowd (it was 11:30am on a Thursday and it was super crowded). I suggest telling people beforehand to stay quiet and respect the show though, it was a bit too loud and difficult to enjoy the spectacular scenes. Feeding animals and playing: A highlight ✨ very cute. Love how they present them and show how smart they are. Store: Good 👍🏻 an opportunity to buy everything, from the museum and from Norway. It's worth a visit, with or without kids, it's very small, so expect it to last no longer than 2 hours but it is in my opinion so well presented (ecology, fish, environment issues, humans, food chain, etc).

This is a great place to visit while in Tromsø. Each tank has information about the sea life that inhabits each tank; with photos and a description of each inhabitant. Next to the main seal tank there is a large screen to interact with. You can see lots of information about the type, age and characteristics of each seal living at the aquarium. The seal feeding is a must watch, and that is done at certain times of the day. You can also see the seals and fish from different angles, as there are cutouts at various points to peak through. There are a couple different levels to explore with ramps available for easy access, and there is a lift available if needed to get to the upper level. This is a wonderful place to visit, for those young children and adults. Well worth a look. The aquarium also has a nice gift shop on the way out.

Genuinely kind staff, they care so much for each animal, fish, etc. Spend 1-2 hours, the seal feeding is worth it! Such a great business with love for the town and the seals. Can't wait to come back and visit the expansion!

It's nice museum, but we expected a bit more for that money. Three movies, some informations and aquariums and very small basin for seals. We have been in Dolfinarium in The Netherlands and in Nausicaa in France and you can't compare it! But they are going to enlarge the building, so it could get beter.

If you’re thinking of visiting this place, you have to realize this is actually a museum about hunting. If the mass slaughter of innocent animals for profit is your jam, you will LOVE this place. I’m not judging (too much) - the people who in times past made this their living did so out of necessity or cultural background. But that doesn’t mean I’m that desperate to immerse myself in such a past, especially since the museum has a rather celebratory tone towards killing baby seals. I’d rather pass.

Small museum, located in an 1830s warehouse on the seafront, but full of historical exhibits. Following its establishment as the “Gateway to the Arctic” in the late 19th century, Tromsø became a base for many polar expeditions. The Polar Museum preserves and conveys stories related to this aspect of the history of Tromsø and the Arctic. The Polar Museum’s permanent exhibitions deal with sealing, overwintering trapping, the stories of famous trappers such as Henry Rudi and Wanny Wolstad, the expeditions of Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen. Worthy of a visit.

Seems pretty small from photos, but despite the size of the building they can fit surprisingly lot of stuff into 3 floor exhibitions. If you are into polar adventure and hunting, you'll love it. If you are coming with kids be aware of the fact it's dedicated mostly to hunting. So you might explain why those cute little seals are on hooks... It's a nice place to go when weather is bad. And it's just behind the corner of the city centre and main meeting spots. Recommend to start early as it might get pretty crowded.

Quite informative museum on Arctic region, polar animals, their hunting and local people. A section on Amundsen was quite informative.

A very nice museum which tackles the history surrounding the northpole from a norwegian perspective to the fullest and in details about the fauna there as well. We get taught about the famous norwegian explorers like Amundsen, Nansen and even the female explorer Wanny. A paperback script is handed to the guests which contains a good 20 pages of thorough information about all the exposition rooms in the museum, translated into various languages since the museum signs themselves are in norwegian most of the time, so the paper script serves as translation for them. The entry is free for students and I highly recommend it!

This was very educational. Lots of information and every turn you make opens up a room full of new things to see. Recommend keeping adequate time to explore the place. Be sure to look up when you're there. There are surprise finds in unexpected places. The outside of the building is as fascinating as the inside. The wall art is phenomenal

Great exhibition, very realistic sets of the hunters' hut and the polar animals they were chasing. Amundsen and Nansen story well told.

Very nice and interesting place.. is not big but it worth a lot, also the guides come in different languages so you can learn a lot even if you don't speak English. I enjoy the visit and I recommend it for 2- 3 hours activity in Trømso city.

It's a nice little museum with history on polar expeditions. Very informative- they give a little guidebook for English speakers. Many in previous reviews complained about the fact that animals being hunted in the past so don't visit if you can't bear it. It is a part of their past so it's unavoidable. Since then, the government imposed restrictions on hunting.

It's a very good museum that is quite quick to do and covers the Arctic culture in its entirety (way of life, fauna and flora, hunting and fishing tools...) the advice I can give you is to remember to bring a student card (if you are a student) as there is a reduced rate. Don't forget to ask the hostess/hostess at the entrance to give you a booklet (there are in English, German and French) which explains the different parts of the museum in detail, it's very interesting to understand each piece, work or setting. Count on about 1h30 for the visit in order to see each part well. Concerning the parking, I recommend you to park in a big parking place not far from the museum, just on the street behind, it's not free but it's allowed and it will cost you about 2€20 The souvenir shop in the museum is a bit expensive, others in town are much cheaper I think

Highy recommended to anyone visiting Tromsø and wants to learn more about early history of seal hunting.Polarmuseet is easily accessible on foot and it’s located along the shores with a great view of the tromsø bridge and the cathedral. Went there with my family and we bought tickets on arrival.The staff were helpful and friendly.

Most things described in Norwegian but overall worth visiting especially for students whose have free entrance.

This museum is all about Norwegian history and their exploration of the north and south poles. This museum also shows the sad reality of how they hunted various animals present in the arctic region. I found it very hard to digest the fact of killing these animals for fur and meats. I really wish they could also add a little history about Sami people.

It was a great experience, there are some discounts with the tickets if you are a student and they provide you with a paper guide in Norwegian or English, so you don't miss anything. 100% recommended if you are really interested in Norwegian history and the polar expeditions of the late 19th century. And yes, it is a bit hard to see stuffed animals in the exhibits, but it is important to remember that it is not an apology for hunting, it is a call to reflect on our ancestors and the way they lived and how they saw their world by then.

Excellent, and really brought home how early arctic use was so exploitative. Lots of stuffed animals that shocked my kids a bit, but was also a valuable lesson for them in the horrible things people do for fur and money. You can stroke all the difft stuffed seals etc to understand why they hunted certain types. Glad we went and pricing was fair, unlike many local attractions.

Very educational for sure. The exhibits might be a bit jarring for some. Definitely stirs up some emotions, especially when you read about how they bought tourists to kill those animals just for fun, but definitely a place to reflect on the actions of the past. The exhibits themselves do not have much information in English, but they do give you a booklet with the English information. Must visit place.

Amazing museum! Not very large but documents the exploits of Norwegian polar expeditions very nicely. Would definitely recommend a visit!

Next to the cruise ship port that is very easy to identify, located in a building looks like a shopping mall from outside, there are couple clothing stores and a cafe with seating area! The visitor centre are located in the middle of the building, you need to take a mumble from a machine and wait for your turn! The visitor center also has limited amount of items you can purchase! Buses routes also clearly displayed! It is very nice and warm and helpful place!

We have waited like 30 minutes in order to buy 2x day passes. The staffs are nice. The day pass is very nice printed. But there can be more staffs organized so that not all 2 counters are long possessed of the tourist who inquires more than 20 minutes.

Tourist info is always my favorite place to begin every trip! First take a number and read the maintenance dates for the cable car so you don't end up driving their and finding out it's closed. It gets busy at times, and you might have to wait in line a bit. Free wifi, bathrooms are locked, and you have to pay 10kr if you want to use them. Staff is great, friendly, and very helpful. Cameron was so kind and patient, answered my endless number of questions with a smile. He gave me all the latest info, recommended sites plus some very valuable local tips. If you end up waiting in line there's a good coffee shop (Kaffebønna) right next to the Tourist info :).

I am very disappointed with this aurora viewing trip. Firstly, we had agreed to depart at 6:30, but the tour guide arrived late in freezing conditions. To make matters worse, when the guide finally arrived, they informed us that we had to wait an additional 30 minutes for the tour bus. We were left waiting outdoors in subzero temperatures. Secondly, throughout the entire journey, the tour guide's explanations were unprofessional and their speech was not fluent. It felt like they lacked expertise in delivering the information. Thirdly, due to the delay, we couldn't go to the prime location for observing the Northern Lights. Instead, we ended up traveling for an hour and a half to a place with severe light pollution, and in the end, we couldn't see anything at all. I understand that weather conditions cannot be predicted, but I believe it is the responsibility of the tour guide to do their best to take us to the best possible location for viewing the Northern Lights. However, this guide completely failed to do so. In conclusion, I cannot recommend this company and I am completely disgusted with their service.

A very interesting place to visit surrounded by the mountains and the Fjords

Just like any tourist information centre, this is the place to be if you need any info. The staff here are very friendly and helpful, they can help you to book any tour if needed. This visitor centre is very modern, they have some touch screens console for you to search for the info you needed. The souvenirs and gifts sold here are very good quality, worth to buy. However, you can only find booklets/info about the Troms region here, not other regions.

Hi there I travel a lot. This here is just unbelievable. I have been waiting 1.5 hours! You need to take a ticket. Two people working here, one just left. If you have to use the toilet, good luck. Not only it is NOT free of charge, they won't let you pay cash either. It is locked and opens by card only! I have only two questions but can't find answers on google! Oh now I know why it takes so long. They are selling here tours!!!!! In the last hour they worked through 6 customers!!!??!?!?! Tromso, you can do better than this

They will cancel your booking, keep your money, and resell your ticket if you make any followup reuest after booking. They do respect the terms and conditions they publish. Poor facilities on board and a terrible vessel for the trip out. Moored up at a location with major light pollution from the coastline for looking at the Northern lights. The guide !! Was a sales pitch only, terrible and avoid at all costs. Absolute waste of money and time.

Tromso is really magical place to me. I really love this small and nice city. It is located north of Norway with nice site seen of see,jangle and polar light. This city has small air port and it tack 2 hours of Oslo to there by plan. There is a bus for transfer airport to city and back. The weather is nice and cold...

Didn’t really go inside the church, just saw it while taking a walk. The most beautiful thing was that when gazing at the top of the church we saw really bright northern lights. Yes, you can also see them clearly from the city if they are strong enough.

Attended the Midnight Concert on a Friday night. It was snowing, the cathedral looks so beautiful in the falling snow. Interior of there church is well preserved. The soothing music and voice of the soprano echoed beautifully.

We really enjoyed spending some time at the cathedral, and to us it was quintessentially Norwegian and on par with several of the older churches we have been fortunate to visit in Norway. Lovely church, great energy. I like the relative simplicity of churches in Tromsø! And the artistic touches. I was so blessed to walk in when the original organ from 1863 was played. It was truly magnificent!!! A short video is attached. The amazing part is the new organ and old organ can be linked together! I can only imagine what harmonious fabulous sound will be cteated! Great information about the history of the organs and the Cathedral. Highly recommend sitting for a few minutes and enjoy the wonderful energy. Open Tuesday & Friday 12-16, Sunday 14-16. No entrance fee. Paid parking only in nearby parking lot.

It was a "by chance" visit for me. They had a local ukulele group doing a short performance and they were really good. I think they were trying a performance out before an actual gig (if that makes sense). The cathedral was stunning inside and out and the staff were so helpful and friendly, very welcoming.

This place was really interesting! Exhibitions on local wildlife, geology, palaeontology, the local Sami people and the Northern lights. We thought it was really interesting and enjoyed a couple of hours here.

Interesting museum with 3 different areas. Arctic nature and animals, geology and northern light, and culture (about the Sami and about WWII). Most of the exhibits have English translations, but unfortunately some of the interesting Sami cultural exhibits do not, but there is still a lot to look at. Good educational videos about the science behind the northern lights. There is also a cafe (though we did not visit it). And don't forget that students get in for free so bring your ID.

A fabulous museum, easily accessed by bus from the city centre, and located near Telegrafbukta (Tromsø south beach). This museum had a cloakroom and free toilets. This museum had a small shop. We enjoyed the exhibits, the northern lights graphics in the motion picture theatre help to explain them, and the geology exhibit about the world is made is very smooth and we'll designed. It's nice that the museum wasn't all about northern lights, as on our trip it also included exhibition on Kvan and Sami people's, both historically (description in Norwegian only no English) and now (in both Norwegian and English). Well worth a visit, and walk round to the beach afterwards if the weather is good as the beach and park are easily worth the bus ride on their own.

Went on a Sunday to get free parking. The tickets were reasonably priced and students enter free. There are a wide range of different exhibitions involving aurora, wildlife, geology, sami culture, etc. There is also an adjacent cafe but we did not stop by.

The best museum in Tromsø so far! Parking is free on weekends, weekdays 31kr an hour limited to 4 hours. There's a nice coffee shop, bathrooms, lockers and coat area. Staff is really nice and informative. I suggest spending at least 3-4 hours to be able to see, hear and read all the interesting info provided. There's 3 different exhibitions, we stared at our favorite one - geology! It was so interesting to learn about rocks, different metals they consist, how amazingly durable some are that are still here millions years later!!! Learn about the numerous mass extinctions the earth has been through and why. There's also an amazing movie explaining how the nortern lights created. 2nd exhibit is unnaturally, super important, with emphasis on how things have changed in Norway (whale hunting, minke whale hunting which sadly resarted again in 1993). Our plastic oceans and seas, the different bird species and when they migate here. The 3rd exhibit is about the Sami and kven people extremely interesting. Different laungauges they speak, their traditions and sadly how Norway tried to "norwegize" them. I highly recommend taking the time reading all the stories from the children who were uprooted from their families to boarding schools. It's a very real, raw, sad exhibit. If you have time for 1 museum while in town that's the one!

Small museum mainly depicting the fauna and man's colonisation. There is a fairly strong emphasis on the Sami people. Although much is translated into English, a lot, including my photos, is not. A guide is useful.

This museum is really nice, they have different expositions, my favorite one is that about the rocks and earth life, it made me realize how insignificant we are and how badly we are expending our time in the life .. They have a Sami exposition as well, where they explain about that culture in different aspects.. I recommend it.

Very beautiful garden with a lot of varieties of plants and flowers. I would recommend going when you are sure there will be flowers! There's also a kafé where you can buy food and eat it outside. Entrance is free.

Love this small but very interesting botanical garden! It includes all alpine flowers from Himalaya, Andes to the Alp's. Flowers and plants growing above 2000m elevation you will find here.

Most northerly botanical garden in the world. It was worth seeing and had a larger variety of plants than expected. Best part is it is free and open to the public 24/7!

I like botanical gardens and have visited many famous ones. This one, the northernmost in the world, is a delight. So many unusual and delicate plants! And it seemed everything was in bloom.

Beautiful open air botanical garden. Entrance is free and you can walk around between the flowers. There are several rock formations with flowers from different parts of the world. Unfortunately because the natural Norwegian flowers/weeds grow wild everywhere, and since it's an open air exhibition, some of the exhibition rocks have foreign labelled flowers that didn't bloom and instead there is local flora - confusing to think you are looking at a fine specimen from Nepal when in fact it is just a Norwegian weed. There are also some places where one plant/flower sort of took over the area although there are multiple labels. Nonetheless a beautiful place to walk around in season (May-Sept) and enjoy the flowers, especially if you aren't really interested in botanical terms. The cafe is currently closed due to corona. There is a Circle K garage near the south entrance to the gardens, but it's probably a good idea to take along your own food/drinks. To get here, take the 20 or 34 bus in the direction of UNN/UiT and get off at the stop UiT/Planetariet. You will see the start of the path that leads to the gardens, there is an information board and map in English. Public parking is available at the southern entrance.

If you like gardens, this is a must-visit place. Beautifully laid out, carefully maintained. Plants from several countries. Many were in bloom when we visited this morning.

The most northern botanical garden in the world, run by the Tromsø University Museum, opened in 1994. Home to various Arctic and alpine plants from all over the northern hemisphere, the open air garden is organized in zones (including Himalaya, North America, India, China, The Alps, Siberia and more). The garden imitates the home habitat of the small amazing plants growing on rock formations, so it is unique and special in this sense. Best to visit during the blooming season powered by the Midnight sun, from May to October. Free entrance. There is also a café in a beautiful old Norwegian house, open from 11:30 to 15:30 (closed on bank holidays and Sunday). You can enjoy some very good coffee from the Espresso machine and Norwegian pancakes with brunost (brown cheese) and jam.

Nice place, it's worth the price. It's practical, on the pub you can get breakfasts and nice meals. You can reserve in advance, it's well connected by buses and tube (subway from 7.15 am). I didn't like much the cleaning of the toilets, but it's kind of acceptable. I'd not recommend this place if traveling alone, but that's personal opinion. Pub has nice selection of beers, I could get some whiskey as well.

One of the most beautiful botanical gardens I’ve ever been to. Small but packed with amazing plants, also with a very nice little cafeteria and a great start for an extended walk on the Tromsø island. Definitely a must see if you are visiting the city.

Starting off with general aspects about the museum itself: it has three floors with multiple rooms for different artworks and a nice little shop on the ground floor. From what I understood, there is also a corner to sit, drink coffee and talk with fellow visitors. About the current exhibition: some of the people here talk a lot about how they didn't like "Gába – female resilience" because it was too short or too simple. I would say that these people did not understand what this exhibition is about. Only 28% of the museum walls are covered, showing the limited representation of female painters. It is a message to the public. That's why it's short. Personally, I really enjoyed the paintings and cultural features that had stories to tell about womanhood in different countries. Additionally, the museum has multiple sitting opportunities and very clean toilettes. What was missing for me though was more in depth stories regarding each painting or artist. Perhaps, some additions to go more into the "resilience" part would also be preferable. Other than that, it was very thought-provoking and interesting to see art present in such a way. If anyone wants to immerse themselves for a short 30–35-minute period of time into educative, cultural art, this is the place.

Nice museum with one main exposition in the ground & 1st floor of one artist and a exposition of multiple artist on the 2nd and 3rd floor. There's also space if you want to paint or work on artworks for free.

I love the concept and purpose of the current exhibition, Gåba. I'm not sure how I feel about the way it's presented. I left feeling like something was missing. Gåba meaning female resilience. That message was too subtle for me not as loud and clear as I hoped from such an important exhibit. The stories behind the art and what the exhibition is about was to me more interesting than the art itself. It's 30 min tops, including reading everything. Gift shop with locally buetiful items. Staff was ok. Bathrooms available. Lockers and coat area available. Paid parking only.

The exhibit, There is No, taught me much about the Sami indigenous people in Norway. No word for Art, yet what artisans they are! Utilizing resources found in nature for tools, bowls and clothing were vibrant and beautiful. Tastefully displayed in a spacious venue of silence. I found myself very engaged with the exhibit. Free entrance and informative brochure and attendees came as a bonus surprise. If only the free coffee machine worked...it would have been perfect to sit and reflect on the emotion. I highly recommend this museum during your trip in Tromso.

Nice small museum in a beautiful historical building after renovation. There are three floors, around seven rooms, nice library and gift shop. During our visit we saw mostly contemporary art, both paintings, ceramics, sculptures and installations. They were mostly devoted to female artists from Scandinavia in XX century. Art is followed with nice descriptions. 1-1.5 hours is probably enough for a visit.

The wife dragged me in here and I can usually suffer some modern art. This did not do it for me at all. There were a few (about 6) dusty installations along with some rooms showing videos. The theme is mostly a Sami protest which will be incomprehensible without some back ground knowledge. There was no visiting art. The layout was poorly signed, we ended up using the service lift to find the third floor. All in all a total waste of 10 euros.

Pretty solid place. The price isn't too bad, there's a really neat makers space and cafe, and good gift shop. Check the exhibit before you go, seems like maybe budget two hours?

They had some light show which i found absolutely hilarious. I laughed for half an hour because it felt like a joke. For me it was one of the best experiences in tromsø. Dont take it seriously and it will be great. 10/10 Recommended

I liked this place, but my husband wasn't too interested. Some of the artwork was really interesting and I enjoyed it, some of it I didn't quite 'get'. Still, it was worth a visit.

The art museum was pretty small. It consists of 3 floors, but really, it's only 2 because the 1s floor exihbit is really tiny. Thought it was a bit overpriced for what it was but I think it's not a bad spot to kill 30-45 mins.

Current exhibition is on famous Norwegian painter and author Sara Fabricus who wrote using the pseudonym Cora Sandel. Even if you don't know her before you go (I didn't!), it is a fantastic exhibition and you learn a lot. It is beautifully presented with some very clever touches. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone interested in art and literature, or stories of women from the first half of the 20th century.

They were changing the exhibition downstairs (and there's roadworks outside so persevere on finding entrance). The main exhibition on Sara Fabricus/Cora Sandal a national artist then writer a turn of 19c was very interesting. A bitter sweet insight to the life of women at that time.

The photography exposition from Evgenia Arbugaeva is breathtakingly beautiful and the interactive set-up of the Cora Sandel exposition was impressive!

A poetic gem for a glimpse of the arctic life and the artists that are nurtured by these lands. The presentation, narrative style, and the content are just so underrated!! A must-see in Tromsø for any literature and art lovers who is interested in why and how people live in such isolated but breath-taking grounds.

The museum's name should be changed to Cora Sandel home or something similar. The problem is that the exhibition concerns only her personal objects, without explaining in any way the artistic contributiion given by this artist. I could not appreciate the exhibition because of this, it's a lost chance to spread her contribution.

I mean, can you really fault a free museum??? When I visited they had an exhibit about religion which is not really my thing (like, at all) but I enjoyed looking at the pictures- such awesome quality! Then upstairs they had a lot of shots from Tromso 50-60 years ago which was really cool to see.

An interesting but small museum. On the first floor there was a very pretty and interesting photography exhibition from the arctic. On the second and third floor there was an exhibition of a famous Norwegian author.

An enjoyable tour of this museum which has frequently changing exhibits. For my visit was of Cora Sandal's work (artist and author) from Tromsø. It was a thought provoking exhibition with lots of intriguing artworks. A particular highlight for me was the listening room where we could hear extracts of the written works. This is no longer free entry, unless a student. I am pleased my student card meant this did not cost us lots, as we are not knowledge about this artist and author beforehand so arrived out of curiosity instead of love. The museum is over 3 floors so if stairs are impossible then maybe ask if they have a solution before paying. They have toilets (free) and coat lockers with keys outside in the lobby and by the toilets inside. Enjoyed it. We are unlikely to need to visit this exhibit twice but would return to see a different experience next trip.

This is a photography museum. The exhibitions on display when I visited were Red Utopia, which was about the presence of communism in countries around the world even today. The photographer does a very good job of showing their stories. Homo Religiosus was another one which, as the name suggests, was about various religions, their evolution and it's importance in people's lives. Overall, I liked the presentations; and since the entry to this museum is free, there is no harm in visiting it.

Great place to stop for a beer when the weather isn't the best. It's pretty easy to lose track of time enjoying the beer and cozy atmosphere. We didn't have a chance to take the tour but it was highly suggested by some locals we were talking to during our time there.

Nice brewery tour. You learn about history and business decision of Mack. You won't see the production because it has been moved out of Tromso. Only a micro brewery will be shown. Still interesting. You can taste two beers.

Super nice morning spent there. Fun activities, nice movies with aurora information and planets, good area for manual activities for kids, good area if you want give food to your kids, they don’t sell but u can bring from home. Even my toddler with 16months had fun! I would just have one of two staff to go around and tell a bit about the experiences there.

It's a nice place for children with a lot of different activities and a planetarium where you can watch a movie about northern lights. The movie is a little boring though. 30 minutes to watch something that you can easily find on youtube! Another negative is that there is no restaurant there in case you are hungry, like we were.

Great spot for all ages! Loads of interesting facts about the world we live in and how things work such as electricity and the likes. Loads of interactive bits and bobs too and then you have the northern lights show in the planetarium

This place was a lot of fun, and we are two adults in our 30s! There is a lot of information with signage in English, and a lot of interactive exhibits. My husband and I had fun with a whole floor of interactive science games. There was also a show about the Northern lights which we enjoyed.

You CANNOT PARK here during the week!! The spaces are reserved for staff and students ONLY and even if you pay for the parking you WILL receive a ticket do not trust the parking app as it doesn't mention that it can only be used with a parking permit. We went out of our way to try and make sure we were parked in an appropriate place l according to the app but it did not have this information and being tourists we couldn't read the signage so assumed the app knew best. The museum itself is phenomenal with many great activities to get involved with. We had a fantastic time which ended with the show in the planetarium. Just do yourself a favour and save a big chunk of money by taking the bus and not trying to park on weekdays. At weekend this is not an issue as the permits are not required then and you can pay normally on the app or according to a guide for free further down the hill.

The best attraction in Tromsø. The best interactive museum i've ever been. Perfect for children of all ages (2 to 92).

Honestly, top attraction when visiting with my 5 year old - there are many hands on displays and educational exhibits, but also lots of opportunity to just play. At 26 minutes long, even younger kids can manage the movie about Northern Lights. My kids liked this even more than the Troll Museum in the city center.

This is easily the best deal in Tromso. I took the bus to the science center, paid my fee and started exploring. They have wonderful displays about weather and the environment. But the best thing to do is watch the movie about the aurora. It's included in the price and is absolutely worth the price of admission all by itself. Stop by sometime. Take your time. Enjoy yourself. It's worth it.

Beautifully architected bridge linking the main city of Tromsø to some of the key attractions such as the Arctic Cathedral and the Fjellheisen (cable car). You can walk across the bridge - it is about 1km long - with pedestrian walkways on both sides protected from the traffic. Great views

The bridge is definitely one of the most known landmarks of Tromsø. Good viewpoint. At the same time it is very photogenic. There is always a strong wind in the middle of the bridge. If you walk towards the Arctic Catedral the right side is for pedestrians and the left side is for bikers.

Lovely walk across the bridge. The view is great morning or evening, very safe when walking across. Add this to your list when visiting Tromso

Walk to the highest part of the bridge and you can take a great photo - takes less than 15 minutes to get across. You can walk across the bridge but you can't cross from one side to the other, so know which side you want to take a picture from! I caught the bus to the Ice Cathedral and walked back to the town center and on a fine day, it's an easy walk.

Walking across the bridge at least one way is recommendable despite the noise of the car traffic.

Beutiful structure, very impressive and noticeable. I love the round edges and windows throughout, really gives a feeling even though it's big, it blends in harmoniously with the surroundings. It's very spacious inside, you can find a nice quiet spot and enjoy a book. Library is open 7:00-22:00 for members only. Keep in mind if you follow a member after hours to go in you'll have to wait for a member to get out. Wow. Ample seats. U can see students and adults alike, nose buried in their books and laptops. Its snowing outside, sight a beautiful sight inside out, from their ceiling to floor windows. Clean toilets. Theres even a small area for u to purchase coffee from a vending machine.. provided paper cups for drink water off the tap, or for the coffee.. lol. I read my own books since everythingelse was in norwegian.. I love it here. :)

It is a beautiful library with a very modern design both from the outside and the inside. You can enjoy very quiet and peaceful corners to read books or work on your computers. There is a dedicated children's area downstairs, if you prefer absolute quiet I recommend the top floor. The toilets are free and there is a photocopier and fax machine available (ask at the reception). There is a cafeteria in the building which is perfect for taking a break and enjoying a hot drink

Its in the heart of city. Many Local buss stops are located in surrounding. 7 to 22 timing is impressive. Many sections For children whole underground floor is available. Internet with high speed. Its beautiful attraction in the city.

The library is built on 5 floors. Lots of books in different languages and a absolutely lovely place to study and rest. Kind staff are always helpful. The public hours are limited but if registered and filled out the form, from 07:00 to 22:00 is accessible. Free wifi is also available. The group floor is dedicated to children with books and computer games.

Beautiful space. Great selection of board games that you can play inside the library during the day before going on aurora chases. Also lots of English/foreign language books.

Cozy library. Silent section at the top floor. Usually busy and a bit noisy during weekdays. Great view of the Cathedral and tromsdaltinden. Friendly staff

Lovely library! Very comfortable chairs to sit in and read. Nice place to warm up from the cold.

Interesting shape from outside and even more content on the inside, lower floor for children theme, third floor there's a mixed of English books, top floor is quiet are. View from the library is good. Just remember no spike inside.

A great classic pub, with space for smoking. The only thing that's missing is a small stage for performers.

Top Notch, favorite Pub to throw down on weekdays

One of three bar we visited on our Thomso beer safari. The story of the bar is, no railroad service in this part of Norway, so the owner got a piece of railroad track and putting it next by the bar and call it railroad bar. It is warm and cozy when we visited in a cold winter time and I really enjoyed the one beer they served us during our beer safari! Make sure you stop by here if you come to Thomso one day! You would enjoy it like I do.

Great place to hangout. Buyer beware! Two shots of jagermeister and two pints will run you around $60 USD. My boyfriend said we had to go before we couldn't pay lol

Great place for a beer. Was there Christmas eve and it is obviously a place for the locals too not just tourists! Staff very friendly and has a heated outdoor smoking area

Tromsøs only "railroad station" (bar) its pretty iconic for Tromsø in many ways, when I was young it was often said it was where folk went for drinks after work (early hours) I'm not sure how accurate that is, but when I visited on a Monday around 2200 the place was unfortunately pretty empty which is probably understandable. Overall I'd say its worth a visit, if only to say you've been at Tromsøs railroad station.

Splendid little place for a few drinks and they seem to show most football games.

An aggressively average pub with an okay selection of beer. The bartenders really didn't seem thrilled about being there. My biggest complaint would be that two pints ended up costing about €25.

As a group of 7 people we had a lot of fun in this nice pub. Very friendly and fast service all the time. Locals, sailors and a small number of tourists was there on a Saturday evening. As a sport pub also possible to watch soccer, but not for us. We had a lot of nice talks with locals, sailors and tourists it was a nice time for all of us. Many thanks for the very good service (also for the tea :)) and the open and friendly atmosphere.
