We then thought we would get a drink in the cafe/restaurant and just enjoy the view, but the staff there were rude, especially when we said we didn’t want food, just drinks. Booked a tour of the salt plains and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of walking through a place where man and nature worked together to produce something that flavours our food so well. Kudos to our guide, Marta, who did a great job of providing a concise summary education of the still very manual salt production and the delicate ecosystem of the salt pools. Don't miss this if you are in Marsala!

Purchased the “Salt Workers For A Day” package and have zero regrets! Great experience learning about the salt pans of the area, how salt is made and harvested, and loved the experience of getting to try it ourselves. We came on a lucky morning and harvested Fiore Di Sale and got to take some salt home from our “hard work” ;) Our guide seamlessly switched between giving us the English speaking version of the tour and then the Italian version for the others in our group.

The Ettore and Infersa salt works established in Marsala in Phoenician times are a wonderful and beautiful experience. We travelled from Trapani-Birgi airport along the provincial coast road and followed signs for Saline e Mulini and the Mothia and Stagnone Nature Reserve. After watching a very informative film about the saltworks our guide Alide took us on a very interesting tour of the saltflats explaining ever important detail of the work carried out and exactly how the salt was obtained and produced from this fascinating place. I quote from their leaflet “Anyone who truly wishes to discuss saltworks must come to this place in the west of Sicily the old very old saltworks founded by the Phoenicians”. (Voltaire)

Quite a letdown. This winery is so historic - this is where the Italians invaded Sicily in 1860, and there is a book and series about the Florio family (the Lions of Sicily). You can also read about it in The Leopard, the classic novel that's basically the Gone with the Wind of Sicily. The Targa Florio car rally that still happens in Palermo was started by this family. The wines are wonderful, but this is the most touristy place in Sicily. They herded us like cows, and we had to stand up for the tasting. Very stingy on both the wine and the food. It's on the water, but there are no vineyards here. The only thing I would change about my trip to Sicily would be to skip this place.

Great guide who shared a ton of interesting historical information. Fun to see the barrels larger than anything we'd ever seen before. Super lame they only let us try 3 wines with prepackaged snacks for 20 euros. In a smaller Cantina we'd tried ~15 wines for 10 euros and bought many more bottles since we'd had the chance to try a variety of them.

Very historical place. If you like Desert wines like Marsala/Port/Sherry, this is a must see location. We have been here for an organized dinner. Very friendly people, good food and very good wine. Thx for hosting us

"tour florio selection" €25 organized tour full of thorough history explained in great detail by a considerable and thoughtful hosts: Valentina Gambino, Maria Ellen Bello, and Sara Montalbano, of the oldest winery in marsala: cantine florio (duca.it) guided tour of the cellars (in italian & english) + tasting of 4 fortified marsala vinos: 2 marsala riserva, 1 zibibbo, and 1 passito di pantelleria, with 4 small food combinations : from 10:30am - 1p (2 1/2 hours), walked through the historic and working cellars with massive old oat barrels, and newer smaller wood one’s too. learned about the garibaldi & mussolini connection; and then the tasting was on a 3rd level outdoor terrace overlooking the sea, and ended in the vino shop. the best of the tasting was aged blend 15 + 25 year marsala semi-dry.

This historic Cantina has much to offer in terms of it’s Marsala wines but the tasting tour leaves much to be desired. I don’t recommend it unless you’re traveling in the winter or spring seasons. The tour was in an enclosed “cellar” that was very hot , with high humidity, and some mold which could bother some sensitive people. The guide was pleasant but her English was hard to understand. At the end , there was a tasting with no seating. Some guests were not able to stand the heat and extended standing- it was uncomfortable and unpleasant. None of these conditions were disclosed in the confirmation.

The taste of Marsala. The tour is a must see to get the history of how Marsala is made. Staff were great and even though the presentation was in Italian the lady conducting the tour stopped to explain a lot in English for me.

We chose the 20€ tour and it was fantastic! Our guide was named Silvia and she gave as a wonderful tour full of history into the cellars. The tour ended with the tasting of 3 different Marsala wines which were superb. Can only recommend!

Visited Donnafugata winery during a trip to Marsala in September. First of all I must say that the staff is amazing. I requested a last minute tasting and there were able to accommodate me. On the phone as well as in person the staff was friendly, welcoming and very professional. The actual winery is modern, beautiful and full of artworks. The tasting tour provides a comprehensive history of the family and winery and visit of the grounds. Good to know that there are no vineyards as part of the visit. The tasting was limited to 4 wines accompanied by delicious bouchée and it was good to give you a quick overview of standard wines (note that Donnafugata does not make Marsala, if that is what you hoped to taste you may be disappointed). Already being familiar with the Donnafugata wines, I would have like a more focused / specific tasting. The one thing I liked less is that is that the tasting took place in the wine shop and the back and forth of people coming in was a bit distracting particularly when it was a large group. Overall I would definitely recommend visiting Donnafugata to taste delicious wine if you pass by Marsala.

By sheer coincidence my favorite Sicilian wine had a winery in Marsala just a short walk from the marina! I was there for two days and had to visit. Unfortunately though I didn't get to try any wine tasting or the brunch that they offer as they were full but, we were still able to have a tour guide show us around the winery and explain in English which is very nice. The giftshop has so much Donnafugata wines that I'd never tried before, it was amazing. We even managed to see one of the winery founders, signora Gabriella who came by the gift shop to say hi to her employees. Just goes to show how appreciative these people are and that they really like to be hands on. Well done 👏

We went to the winery for a tour and tasting during the holidays in order to discover Sicilian wine. The tour was very interesting with explanations of the history of the vineyard and of the type of wine made on the island. Then we had the luck to taste 4 wines, 2 whites, one red and one rosé with a pairing for each of them. All wine where good with a special mention to the rosé Rosa Dolce&Gabbana e Donnafugata DOC that was very good. If you are near marsala, i recommend to go discover Donnafugata!

We went to the Donnafugata winery in February about a decade ago, and it was a fantastic experience: from olives to cheese pairings, the wine tasting definitely exceeded my expectations. We got a few bottles to take back to the villa and enjoy from the terrace later in the evening. Looking at the photos from our trip today, we honestly cannot wait to return to Sicily in the near future.

We have taken the wine testing/ food pairing activity. Our host, Eleonora, was simply amazing. The tour started with the history of Donnafugata and an overview of the different vineyard locations (grape varieties, climates, soils, etc). The tasting activity was held in a great setting. Five wines were tasted, each with food pairing. Eleonora described each wine and engaged participants. A "must do" activity when visiting the Marsala region. By far THE Best wine testing/ food pairing activity we have ever experienced.

I visited the winery with my family last week, and had a great time touring the facilities and learning more about the history of the Donnafugata brand and doing an amazing wine and food tasting. Despite having booked our tour in English, Eleonora, our host, went out of her way and led the tour in Spanish, a very pleaseant surprise! (Her Spanish is flawless, by the way, you should offer tours in Spanish!) By the end, I bought a bottle of their rosé, and we couldn't wait to go back to our apartment to taste it! They also provided the list of a local supplier of the Donnafugata brand in Mexico to buy more of their wines and their amazing Passito! Thank you, Eleonora!

Extremely nice building, worth to visit even if you are not into wine. The wine selection is nice, prioritizing the Sililian territory and their Native grapes. They also have a Dolce & Gabbana collaboration on 3 bottles (nice for a gift). Price range starting from €8/9 till €80. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and ready to explain you everything regarding each bottle of wine. 5 stars well deserved!

Alice made our entire experience at Donnafugata incredible, full of knowledge and so fun! We were celebrating our first wedding anniversary and she went above and beyond to make our day feel so special! The food and drinks are reasonably priced and of acceptable quality, good if you're just looking to relax on the beach. Unfortunately they won't let you swim in the sea, claiming it is too dangerous (the waves are 1 ft tall...). I suspect they are libel so just don't allow it, meaning we had to move down sure not long after we had paid for the sun beds.

We happened upon this lovely beach club after a hot day in Marsala. Decided to stay for dinner and had no idea it would be one of the best meals during our week stay in Sicily! We were a big group of 13 and they set up a beautiful table for us right on the beach. Sunset swim and dinner. Everything was so fresh and yummy! The food and wine were all very local. I was looking for that ‘white sand, blue water’ beach day experience, and Marakaibbo certainly delivered! The beach and facilities are beautiful, the restaurant is great - very reasonably priced and generous portions. And the staff are wonderful!! When my taxi home never showed, the owner arranged a lift for me back to me accommodation, I’m so appreciative! It is a drive from Marsala, but I believe they do book transfers. It’s worth the drive out, you could spend all day there, and you don’t want to miss the sunset!!!

It is clean, friendly, with perfect sunbeds beige colors with small cusion and pockets Price after 14:30 during working days in august 2023 was 25€ per two persons, But you can stay there as long as you want/need. Toilet and shower are included. For shower you need 0.5€ coins but this is included in the payment for sunbeds. Sea is really clean, long walking in the water with the hight till of the knees. Maybe 500m maybe more distance. Time to time is possible see on the bottom the sea grass. But it is depend of the waves. We really enjoyed stayed here. Nice price, well maintained beach and friendly staff. Clean sea but this is done by nature.

We walked in a half hour before closing, and were informed by a gracious short-haired woman who spoke excellent English that tastings are typically arranged in advance and were done for the day. However, after a few general questions about buying a bottle of marsala, we wound up partaking in a delicious tasting of multiple local wines. We enjoyed two unique whites including an aromatic dry moscato, multiple reds including a bold Syrah and an organic blend, marsalas - including a sweet, semisweet, dry, red, and one aged since 1985 - and finally a delicious local Amaro even though we were already committed to buying it. This unexpected service, besides the amazing quality product, made us all the happier with our purchase(s). Unfortunately we did not catch her name, but this woman's hospitality and knowledge made for an incredible and memorable first wine tasting in Sicily. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We absolutely enjoyed our experience here. We didn't book a tour, but were made to feel welcome all the same. We were offered a tasting of their marsala wine and even got an overview of the grapes, varietals, food pairings and the differences in their standard wines. A very friendly pair helped with translations wherr necessary and we walked away with a valuable memory of Sicilian hospitality and a bottle to enjoy on our trip. If you only have time for one tasting, I couldn't recommend Pellegrino more.

Entrees were delicious but rices were too salty. Too hungry to return dish but could have done it. Manager for feedback but did not offer any alternative. Next time will return food.

Slow, slow, slow. Nice food but don’t appreciate that it took almost 2.5 hours to receive a cold salad starter and a grilled fish main, that’s only 1 thing that needed to be cooked. It took 40 mins to receive wine. 4 tables seated after me all received menus and food and drinks before I had even been asked for my order. Everyone received bread baskets yet I didn’t receive any bread, oil, salt or pepper yet they put coperto on the bill. Not impressed.

If you are an Italian then you are good to go, food is fine, big portions. If you are not Italian and you don’t speak Italian at all, then you will be omitted, you will wait for food at least an hour (if there are other Italian guests) and you will suffer to order anything because the menu is only in Italian and there are basically no English speaking waiters - apart from 1 guy who knew at least something (at least during our visit). Not even the managers know a word in English. So for foreigners - just don’t.

Clean and very good beach

Nice location with view on the sea, good food at reasonable price. The stake, mixed vegetables and spaghetti were delicious and waiting time about 20 minutes.

Lovely low key winery, private guided tour (about 20 minutes) included wine tasting with 4 wines (one Marsala) and cheese board with great treats of cheese, salami, olives and incredible olive oil which they also make themselves. All for €15 per person. Very tasty wine and relaxing outdoor setting to try it, enjoyed it a lot! They also have a beautiful big indoor space for larger groups. The only minus was that although the guide was lovely, she spoke very fast and the tour felt a bit rushed, it would have been nice to go a little slower.

Their dad the eponymous Marco De Bartoli while I hadn't met him, had a fierce love for this land and its products. He also was reclaiming the glorious past and prestige of Marsala. I thank him for it. His children who run the winery, Renato, Sebastiano and Gippy are cordial, well informed and have the same love of place. They do tours by appointment and will ship the wine you select practically anywhere. Their Marsala Superiore Vecchio Samperi aged 10 years is an all meal wine, and they make flinty austere whites, a Grillo called Grappoli di Grillo and other wines that are just really good.
