Nice place to visit if you like Olympics. 4/5 because tickets are quite expensive. You can still see one free exhibition which is okay. The place is clean and staff is so professional.

Wish I'd had longer than an hour and a half to visit all the displays and interactive exhibits. There's an audio guide, but I never could get it to work properly. However, it's not really needed.

Definitely worth going when you are in Lausanne. So much great information and history. The nurse I’m is beautiful and right by the lake. It has a gift store and a wonderful restaurant for lunch and brunch. If you go in the spring, do not miss the beautiful magnolia trees, cherry blossoms and spring flowers.

We visited the exterior gardens of the Olympic Museum after which we enjoyed a sunny day on the terrace of their TOM Cafe. It was a beautiful day. To enter the museum you need to show your COVID certificate and ID.

No words can truly express my happiness when I got here. As an Olympic fan, coming close to everything I have always watched on TV was jaw dropping. I was new to the city but traveling from Zurich to Lausanne to see this was completely worth it and the location was easily accessible by bus. Pure love 🙏🏾

Excellent museum, amazing to see all the Olympic torches, metals and various artifacts. It is also very modern in its presentation with high-tech projections, lighting, etc. A must-see if in Lausanne.

I loved this museum!!! The temporary Paris 2024 Marathon was extraordinary as it detailed the history of marathons and was overall very inspiring. The free audio guides explained the permanent exhibit about the history of the Olympics very well. Walking through the gardens outside and seeing the statues was wonderful too. Lausanne is a beautiful city. I would recommend everyone to come here.

Wonderful park in front of the museum. You can climb the stairs or ride in a stroller or chair along the gently rising sidewalk. In the evening the stairs and the street are very beautifully illuminated. I definitely recommend visiting during the day and in the evening!

Certainly we enjoyed our visit to the museum! A fascinating place with so much history to explore. The permanent exhibition on Olympic athletes, architects, and others are quite interesting. And seeing the Olympic game medals dating back to 1896 is indeed very impressive! Highly recommended to visit this museum when you're in Lausanne.

The Olympic Museum is a must visit if you're in Lausanne. They also have some fun interactive games near the end. It is in the lower ground floor. We found this a little later around the closing time but tried a few games which was fun. The views of the Lake Geneva from the cafe and from the garden outside the museum is just out of the world.

Fabulous museum for fans of the Olympics games and non fans alike. History of the founding of the games, Olympic Torches from the games, medals and the kit worn by famous Olympians are all on display. The interactive stations in the 3rd level are a great hit with the kids! Cafe with lake views and excellent food is a great midway lunch stop.

The Olympic Museum was an amazing collection of Olympic memorabilia and information over the years. I especially loved the timeline that walked you through events every year and where they were hosted. I enjoyed seeing all of the medals provided over the years and the torch collection was great as well. Overall, highly recommend.

Fantastic multi-media exhibits with fascinating background on the Olympics games history and rules. Also fun memorabilia like they torches and costumes from the shows. Something for everyone, whether you’re a sports/Olympics fan or not. It’s also right on the river so very convenient to get to. It is free with the Swiss Rail Pass but I would have paid to go in.

20 minutes walk south of Lausanne train station near the lake. Spent most of the day there. Lots of history on all aspects of each Olympics. Very modern. Nice garden area. Restaurant available. No toilets when in the exhibition areas so need to exit to use them.

Just a perfect place for Olympic history and current affairs. So much to learn how Olympics started and who was the pioneer. Loved the stories about athletes, trophy, games, gears, clothing and medals. Costing around 20 francs and it took us around 2 hours to explore. Must see when in Lausanne.

There are three floors along which to discover the history of the Olympics, memorabilia of Olympic champions and skill tests. If you are in the area, you cannot miss a visit to this museum, as well as a fantastic brunch at the restaurant with the terrace overlooking the lake.

Very enjoyable and educational experience. We enjoyed the displays of Olympic medals, torches, uniforms and equipment. Learned about the history of the Olympic Movement in Greek and Modern times. We were there for three hours…not too crowded.

Worth the entrance. Interactive and thoughtful displays on the history of the Olympics and a lot of regional source material. Very impressed by the flow and activities. The only questionable gap was the Paralympic Games and the lack of discussion around this area.

Amazing architecture. Incredible stained glass. Most of the building is open to visit. Nice outside picnic area with an amazing panoramic view of the city and lake. Short but steep climb from the main street. If you like old buildings and stained glass, it's well worth the visit.

A beautiful Cathedral with magnificent architecture. You can take photos. It's walking distance from the Lausanne station. The entry is free. The interior rooms are huge and brilliant to look at.

Gothic style cathedral with fascinating stained glasses and beautiful architecture. They also have a free guided tour of the cathedral at certain timings. We went on a weekday and we were the only ones yet the guide was sweet enough to take us around and explain everything in detail. You can literally see the various timings(centuries) the cathedral was remodelled. Before visiting, just check if there is any organ concert is scheduled on the day. If so, you're in for a treat.

Very lovely place to visit. Great atmosphere with an over a millennium of history. It also has a fairly new organ designed by a famous Italian car designer. It's free but I think it's worth it to pay for the tour.

We visited Lausanne on a day trip from Geneva. I read that this is Switzerland’s largest church and the finest. It was very impressive and glad we had a chance to visit it before they closed for the day.

Definitely a must visit if you find yourself in Lausanne. The steep uphill walk is definitely not suitable to those with leg problems. But if you can afford to walk up there, visit this cathedral. The decoration style is simple yet so majestic with the stained glass being so deep in colours and so meaningful it its designs. On one side, you have stained glass telling the story of Switzerland. On the other side, the stained glass tells the story of Christianity. And when you walk toward the end of the cathedral, there is a big rose shaped stained glass which will bless you with its beauty and peacefulness. You don't have to be a Christian to appreciate this. Be sure to stop by and look at the scenery outside of the balcony by the cathedral too. The view from above will give you the refreshing feeling you need.

Beatiful old Cathedral with mosaic windows and possibility to walk up to the tower for a small fee. We were pleased to see this interesting historical building. There are about 220 steps to go to its top and enjoy the "birds view" of Lausanne and the lake. Strongly recommended also for families

Beautiful cathedral. Worth a visit. Often they have concerts at night. During the day you can often catch someone practicing the organ. If it is a beautiful day get a ticket to climb the stairs and go see the views from the top and also you can see where the guet (“cryer”)stays at night. The guet has been calling out the hours from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., 365 days a year from the tower of the cathedral. It is at least a 600 year-old tradition.

Port D'Ouchy itself is a magnificent place. We went on a Sunday-- so clean, serene, the views of Geneva Lake and nearby France are spectacular. There is also a park and a nice view of Chateau D'Ouchy from behind. Good for picnics.

Pretty big underground parking lot near lake which should be your first destination during exploring Lausanne. I personally like LED lights which indicates free or occupied parking space. This parking isn't free, but this is common thing in Switzerland.

What a wonderful and unpretentious museum! Works are beautifully organized and exposed. This is my second visit in 30 yrs and I’m still baffled by the stories and the creativity of human beings without any kind of art formation, totally free of dogmas, trends and commercial interests. This is the proof that the human species is naturally and intrinsically a creative being. The staff is very friendly. Marvelous!!! Thank you monsieur Jean Dubuffet! 👏👏👏

2-3 hours is sufficient for the typical art enthusiast to sample this diverse buffet of artworks many by self taught artists exploring their passions. Our 16 year old daughter begged us to go. We didn't regret it. We loved it!

I loved my visit to this fascinating museum. Although relatively small, the museum is presented and maintained in a polished, professional way. I visited on a weekday morning, and it was not busy at all. The atmosphere was calm, relaxed and respectfully quiet, but not austere. Although there is trauma and tragedy in the stories of a lot of the artists and artwork, there is plenty of fun and colour to be found, too. I experienced moments that were variously disturbing, sobering, uplifting and inspiring. The most pervasive sense left by the collection as a whole is of passion, self-expression and individuality. The museum provides interesting biographical information about the artists in both French and English. The collection spans a good range of mediums and dates of creation. Refreshingly, women artists are well represented. It takes around two hours to casually view the collection. There is another couple of hours worth of documentary video footage available for viewing. For a museum of this quality, the tickets are good value.

A magnificent tower, and you can see all of Lausanne from the top. It is a bit of a climb, but it is definitely worth it! The best part is that it is completely free, and there is a small cafe nearby with a large duck pond where you can sit and watch the ducks. I cannot recommend this place enough if you a visiting on a budget, it is one of the many things that are free in the area.

Imposing, wooden, towering, and induced some vertigo if you are susceptible. This is an amazing construction of sponsored wooden circular stairs, winding way to the top (all climbing, no elevators). You need to push a button on turnstile to enter and to exit, likely to keep the count of people and their weight manageable (I hope). The path up to the entry is all gravel and rocks so only those who can climb a small hill on rocky path make it. The views of lake, mountains, forest and city are impressive, as long as you can climb several curved stairs and not affected by heights. Unique tower in the world, with aesthetic design just to see from the bottom. Worth a visit as they say

Very cool tower in Park in Lausanne. It’s made entirely of wood and takes a while to get to the top I was huffing and puffing when I reached the top level but the views of Lake Geneva made it worthwhile.

Fun little excursion. I recommend taking the bus unless you are used to tiny Swiss roads. The bus ride is very pleasant. The park is fun especially if you have small children. The walk back to the tower is paves and easy. The spiral stairs of the tower are interesting and the views are good if you get a clear day.

Nice to visit, pleasant, quiet park for families. The climb up the tower is free and it's about 150+ steps altogether. You'll get a 360° view of lausanne from the top and it's very nice.

In order to get to this tower which was built in 2003 you can catch m2 from the main station all the way to the Sallez station. From there you walk about 15 minutes (signs will show you the way) and you will have reached the tower. It's 35 meters high and on a clear day you may spot not only Lausanne but also Jura, the Alps and the Plateau. Free of charge.

Great aquarium to visit, the exhibits are excellent offering the information in multiple languages. The layout of the visit is easy to follow and navigate with various areas that are grouped by themes. There is a significant section on the local waterways and the creatures that live in this river system. There is less in the way of colorful fish but this is what sets the aquarium apart from others. I especially appreciated that there were some reptiles and birds also featured here which keeps it interesting and visually engaging as one is more familiar with land animals and so can more easily recognize the names and and be engaged with learning about them.

Very friendly staff and actively informed us we have 50%off on the parking and the entrance price deduction for the old age people. It's rare in Switzerland that the staff will actively inform you about any promotions. It's entertaining and educational for children. We visited for about 2 hours. The entrance price is a bit lofty though.

The decor of the public side is very well done! The explanations are very insightful, lots of spoken words instead of text which is really nice. The aquariums are wonderful and very well designed, same for the terrariums. The only little grief I have is that some of the AV equipment was not functioning at the time and I would have loved a quickly made poster instead to still get the information.

Very interesting place to visit both with kids or alone. Various species of fishes, reptiles, snakes, turtles... infrastructure is very good with available toilets and places for changing young kids. There is also a picknick area and vending machines with food and water/juices. Museum also has various interactive and educative points. Wheelchairs and stroller acessible.

Lots of interesting features, including animals, tech and information, as well as of course the building. The staff were friendly and engaging, and everything was in French, German and English (so ignore the reviews that complain about staff and their failure to speak German!). But there are some real design fails here - several screens that were completely unreadable due to reflections, audio that couldn't be heard in the echoing rooms full of kids, and scratched mirror flooring that looks very shabby from some angles.

Nice place to visit, but not over the weekend. So many people that you can not even just pass to the next exposition. Some of the presentations are not working or have problems with the sound. But overall not bad, just some improvement is needed. There is also cafetería with big and beautiful outside area. It took us 2,5 hours to see everything.

We went today and took happy hour tickets! For 10chf it was a really good deal. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It was very well-designed and we were very thrilled to see giant fish and other animals. We'd love to go back because we heard that piranhas are fed on Wednesdays 😁

The Aquatis aquarium located in Lausanne, Switzerland is Europe’s largest freshwater aquarium and is opened 7 days a week from 10 am to 6 pm. It is a fairly new aquarium inaugurated in September 2010. Entry tickets at the ticket counter are priced at 29 CHF for adults and 19 CHF for children aged 6 – 15 years. Entry is free for children below 6 years of age. You can get some discount on the pricing (up to 30%) if you book in advance through their website. It is conveniently located above the Vennes metro station exit. There is a souvenir shop (exit after the aquarium visit is via this shop), restaurants and adequate parking at the level just below the aquarium. I visited the aquarium with my young daughter in February 2019 from Bengaluru, India and travelled by Lausanne metro. We were amazed by the place. It is a very clean and well-maintained aquarium with many healthy looking and active fish specimens, swimming in clear and clean water. It also houses some reptiles and amphibians. There is adequate picture, audio and text description of all the specimens. The visit should take 3.5-4 hours if you are a person of interest and detail. We got to see for the very first time in our lives, some piranhas and that was the highlight of our visit. Wish we had seen them during their feeding frenzy! We were so happy and impressed with the aquarium that we will visit again, someday soon. When you visit Lausanne, please make sure to visit the palace; it is definitely worth it!!

One of the best Aquarium we have been in. Recommending for families. The kids will be amazed by all the different spieces. The aquarium is very modern with high end displays. The information next each animal is very complete. The aquarium will take you through amazing journey about variety of animals in the water. The tanks are super clean and huge. Parking is easy in multi level parking garage. The navigation will take you here right from the highway. Must see when in Loussane. We will come here again as my kid loved it here.

Amazing experience, a multi tiered aquarium with a large number of fish and aquatic animals, divided into geographical parts of the world the creatures originate from. The mirrors on the floors complement the exhibits with wonderful and detailed exhibits featuring typical habitats of the animals. The museum includes a kid friendly restaurant, a nursery where the visitors can see baby animals, and an Amazonian section with tropical plants, fish and monkeys. There are sufficient rest areas where one can sit and watch the fish, and places for school groups to discuss all the information they learn from the exhibition. A perfect place to visit with kids or without them to learn more about the earth and it's water world.

Look past the 'cool' architecture and you'll see a very average library and studying space. With most of the internal area being taken up by impractical carpeted inclines, there are seldom enough free desks to service the students during the week, let alone during exam periods. On top of this, the air circulation and general cooling system is poor, with the 'upper' level being near-unbearably hot in the summer months. You'd think with the budget it had that the builders could take care of some key fundamental concerns for a library.

Aufgrund der vielen tollen Rezensionen war ich sehr gespannt und wurde eher enttäuscht. Zweifelsohne aus architektonisch / skulpturaler Sicht ein tolles Gebäude. Aufgrund des vielen nicht nutzbaren Raumes (der trotzdem beheizt und klimatisiert wird) vom Funktionalen, Kosten / Nutzen und Ökologischen her eine Katastrophe. Für Rollstuhlfahrer sind viele Bereiche nicht nutzbar, Inklusion geht anders, wohl eher exklusiv wie eine Rolex. Der positive Eindruck vom Gebäude wird ausserdem durch die lieblose Umgebung getrübt. Das Gebäude steht auf einem einheitlichen topfebenen Belagsteppich. Die 'Löcher' im Gebäude hätten teilweise durchaus begrünt werden können, einige Bäume täten den Ausblicken in die Innenhofe auch gut. Due to the large amount of unusable space (which is still heated and air-conditioned), it is a disaster from a functional, cost/benefit and ecological perspective. Many areas are not usable for wheelchair users, inclusion is different, probably more exclusive than a Rolex. The positive impression of the building is also marred by the loveless surroundings. The building stands on a uniform, flat surface carpet. Some of the 'holes' in the building could have been covered with greenery, and some trees would also be good for the views into the inner courtyards. The exciting topography of the building finds a boring counterpoint here...

The library looks nice from the inside and outside, but regarding that it is already full of students at 8am in the mornings during exam period I would prefer more space than a fancy design

A nice, cozy place for studying

This is one of our local favorite museums, located north of the Lausanne cathedral and with a beautiful view over Lake Geneva and the alps. This spring of 2023 the Hermitage foundation presents an exhibition featuring works by the Belgian (Flemish) painter Léon Spilliaert, who had his most productive period during the first two decades of the 20th century. His paintings are mainly produced on paper and present a mixture of different techniques. The museum shop is good. The only negative side is the rather important distance between the museum and parking facilities, like often in Lausanne including a rather steep uphill and downhill walk.

Nice museum! But the view of the city was obstructed by the trees grown around it. So it was a little disappoint for us. The garden was nice with some exotic plants, but it's quite small.

Beautiful and elegant 19th century located in a very pleasent park just in the outskirts of Lausanne! The art pieces in expos are always carefully selected and therefor the quality of these expos is very high. There are regularly conferences related to the theme or period of the ongoing expo. The giftshop has high quality items and a good selection of books. There is also a very good restaurant

The admission is 19CHF per person and it includes the audio guide too. Many of the museums here charge about 5CHF/EUROS at least so it is very reasonable and you have self-guide tours. And at the back of the museum, there is a beautiful garden with a lake view. There were people just came for a picnic and cycling.

A good place for a glass of wine or beer in the middle of the day you choose to tour Lausanne.

Great little square for people watching and relaxing on a bench while trekking around old town, stumbled upon the square as I was looking for the sezane pop-up.

I caught métro line 2 from the main station. 2 stops and then as I walked to the Cathedral I found this place by coincidence as it was not part of my places to visit. It was a crowded place because a lot of people were selling vegetables, cheese and many other things. (Guess Saturdays are "market days"). Very picturesque.

Love this place! Every inch of it just felt like it was from a movie. The buildings are so pretty and it blended well with the morning market. Came on a Wednesday and they sell lots of things in the morning market. Too bad they only accept cash:(

Very cute plaza in old town Lausanne on the way to the cathedral! There are some shops and cafes in the area. We stopped to take some photos and walk around.

I visited the museum on the first Saturday of the month, when Switzerland offers free entry to several museums. At Elysee, you get an ecosystem to embrace your photography skills. You get an opportunity to be creative, use props, backdrop to get a picture clicked. This does not stop here, you also get to edit the photos and get as many copies as you want for free!! Other than this, there are other art masterpieces. I have enclosed the picture of the art that I liked the most. It's based on reflection phenomena!! Location: It's very near to the Lausanne Gare station and the Cantonal museum of fine arts. Hence, you can cover both the museums together.

Visited the photography museum....most notable for its lack of ..... photographs. Not worth the time or money...the best bit, the searchable archives (see photos) could be done online and it's not like you could stand there all day looking at photos on TV screens, I mean why would you want to) Response to owner: Thank you for your reply and I am sure many other people will review fondly on the minimalist current exhibition. I appreciate that there are different tastes and levels of appreciation and perhaps regret the flippant tone of my review. I do hope that this feedback is considered for future exhibitions though. Exterior of the building is already inviting you to come in. Once inside it is very spacious, great energy, and friendly staff. I went on the first Saturday of the month. This means Free entry. The exhibition I visited was about Blur in photography. Very interesting and inspiring.

Small collection of interesting photographs with extended descriptions available in an additional brochure. It was free because it was the first Saturday of the month, which was a nice surprise 😊 The mudac museum was closed though. Also, the coffee in the café on ground level is AMAZING! They also offer vegan milk alternatives (oat and rice) and the coffee is really affordable for Swiss standards☕

Visited the museum for the first time since it was relocated to Platform 10. I fell even more in love with it. The available space now gives much better possibilities for creating even more interesting visitor journeys. The place dedicated to the STUDIO is so well done and so educational. I will have to come again with my kids to explore all aspects of creating an image. As a photographer, I would highly recommend it to anyone doing photography (both enthusiasts and professionals).

Went particularly to see Richard Mosse's Broken Spectre. It excelled my expectations. Modern museum/exhibition centre just near the station. Highly recommend.

Don't miss the excellent bookshop if you're a photo book enthusiast! Besides the main exhibit, be sure to explore the fun photo booth located downstairs.

The permanent photo exhibition is pretty engaging, along with the lab Elysee and the guest exhibits, you can spend good 2 -3 hours there.

A fairy tale place with very clean, blue water, greenery all around, and many farm animals kept around the lake in a 'zoo' like envrionment. Kids seemed to enjoy the animals a lot here. It is pleasant to just sit around the lake and feel the breeze and the scenery when the weather is bearable.

Lake has stagnant water. But the surroundings are serene. Good restaurant. Very nice tower. Small zoo for kids.

Wonderfully designed and kept. A beautiful place to hide from the sun and enjoy the variety and beauty of plant life from all over the world. Relatively small and compact, but diverse. The glass house, although small, is beautiful and the carnivorous plants are quite something! The Milan parc is just behind, offering nice options for extended walks and kid's playgrounds.

Such a beautiful place, with a poetic vibe and calmness in the air. Both the exhibit outside and the little museum are free to visit. You can take your picnic and have a nice break at one of the tables available. There are 2 greenhouses now with tropical and carnivorous plants. It’s many ponds are full with animals as well, great attraction for kids and families! Can’t believe not many people know this place!

Beautiful garden, free entrance and very well maintained plants. Best in my opinion was the glass house with carnivorous plants and orchids. Someone really knows his stuff.

A small greenhouse but full of tropical plants!! You will find the biggest rarest spices collection in Europe including: nutmeg (Myristica fragrans), clove (Syzygium aromaticum), Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum and cassia), Star anise (Illicum verum, the true one!!), different pepper (Piper nigrum, Piper sarmentosum, Piper sanctum, Piper borbonense, …), vanilla collection,… tropical fruits trees like Durian, jackfruit, tamarind,… medicinal plants. There is also a huge collection of liana (Aristolochia labiata, Aristolochia grandiflora, Strongylodon macrobotrys (jade liana), Strictocardia behaviensis,…) and a beautiful collection of hundreds orchids and epiphytes. You can go on the passerelle and have a look under the canopy in the middle of hundreds of flowers. The greenhouse has been divided in four different area where you will have an overview of flora of Amazonia and South America, Caribbean area and Mexico, Africa, Asia and Australia.

I walked around the Botanical garden for some time and I saw some species of flowers, plants and vegetation I’ve never seen before. I truly thank the organisation for keeping such a wonderful piece of ecologi in the middle of lusanne so well kept. Great little place in Lausanne. If you want some calmness head there. There is a small museum that is well done. A room with cacti is also pretty need with different specimen. The garden is well taken care of and is very charming. I would happily go back again .

It is literally amazing! The huge building would itself defines a strong feeling; which inside is full art, classic and contemporary works. It is more about the experience. The whole art district is amazing. Don’t miss it if you are visiting Lausanne. It could be one of your best experiences ever.

New art museum in Lausanne featuring modern and older art paintings and sculptures...not far from the main railway station. Clean and fresh building with a lot of space. Free to see the normal exposition. Friendly, helpful staff some with squeaky shoes.. ☺.

Great day out with the kids. Modern architecture and more or less next to Lausanne train station. Top tip: get there early, as the queues are long, and take some warm clothes just in case it’s cold and windy outside.

It was a building with clean lines, built next to the tracks. However it’s not too big, and under-26s could visit for free. I paid 15CHF to visit the temporary exhibition. The permanent collections were on the right side of the museum and the temporary one (currently on tissage and textiles) on the left. There were a few interesting paintings on the first floor, though I have to admit I found the more modern stuff on the top floor less interesting. It was a nice visit, a good way to visit the building and also learn about local artists.

I’ve spent 1.5 hours here and worth to see collection. Temporary exhibition galleries were closed during my visit.

Nice on a hot day as it's air conditioned and free to see the Collection (permanent display). If you look properly, there is a Monet, a Matisse and a couple of Rodin sculptures in there. Counter staff was polite, security sent us back to the counter to get stickers we didn't need. Cafe was empty and expensive but staff were pleasant. Lots of modern art in floor 2 if that's your thing, more classical stuff on floor 1. We were happy to do just the free bits and it's right by the train station so great if you're early for your train.
