Frans Hals was one of the greatest artists of the Dutch Golden Age, of the same caliber as Vermeer and Rembrandt. For any art enthusiast, this should be a good enough reason to visit this museum. The museum is located in the old almhouse, and the building with its gorgeous interiors is in an attraction in its own right. It is most famous for group portraits of members of the military guilds by Hals. Besides works of Hals, there are paintings of other artists who influenced or were influenced by him. The introductory film is quite interesting, and the audio guide is very good as always in the Netherlands. Of note, there is also a second museum building, for Modern Art, which I did not visit due to lack of time.

Beautiful museum that I visited during ‘Museum in Bloom’ exhibition. You can admire here various paintings from the Dutch Golden Age era as well as furniture, ceramics, glass and silver. The art and interior was looking amazing with live flowers arranged through the whole museum. Children really enjoyed watching the Doll House. The patio is very beautiful with many benches and tables. Also the cafe is a great addition (the terrace is a reall hidden gem, especially when it’s sunny). I’d not recommend visiting it with little children (up to 3-4 year old) as I was asked to hold my little one by hand at all times. It was fine, but not really easy or handy.

Great deep dive in Frans Hals. Was pleasantly surprised that while he's the feature, there's lots of space devoted to his contemporaries and even a few modern artists as well. The galleries are well laid out and spacious. The historic building itself is very an apt setting. I'm sure the courtyard must be beautiful in the summer months.

Wonderful church in the centre of Haarlem. My group had a tour of the lower attic and the depth of knowledge from our tour guide was impeccable. Highly recommended a visit.

Unfortunately, the church was closed on Sunday. The nearby fair and the temporary amusement park was interesting contrast to the closed and huge protestant church, once a catholic basilica. I have read that no religious service is provided in the church anymore. The side-buildings attached to the church are quite unusual or I have not seen similar constructions in the past, but suggest the church was integral part of the city center and the marketplace.

Beautiful church located on the main square and easy accessible. You can admire the pipe organs that were played in 1776 by a 10 year old Mozart as well as countless amazing details (stained glass windows, wooden sculptures, etc.). There is a small cafe onsite where for 1€ you can have a hot beverage. Souvenir shop offers many cute items related to the church, Haarlem or Dutch art.

It hosts many artworks, and also houses the famous Müller organ, the largest in Europe, that was played by Handel and Mozart (when he was 10 years old). There's also a legend that you can read about, of a giant who is buried in the church. Unfortunately, entering is not free and costs 3 euros. It's maybe a fair price, but I believe that places like churches (or synagogues or mosques) should be open to the public for free

Extraordinary place, absolutely a must visit. The altar area at the front was open (Monday around 1pm) for silent reflection, but is otherwise closed. The building is enormous and the space feels really qiote special. The free map points out interesting features well, and of course the organ is one of the most visually impressive in the country. Worth the €4 entry price.

This church is in Middle of Haarlem centrum, it’s very old around of 1400. Ticket charge for Adults are €3 and free till kids of age 12 years. With ticket they will provide you the tour guide pamphlet with different languages. There is an organ inside the church which is built up with 5k pipes. It’s very beautiful and sound music of organ is also very melodious. Visit at least for the organ and sound.

We came here for their main attraction - the robot that brings food to the tables. Strangely the personnel never sent food to our table on the robot and when we kindly asked on two occasions (and we ordered food/drinks twice), they said it’s too busy. Note: only 50% of the tables were occupied and the robot was being sent to other tables. Food bland and expensive, staff uncaring and rude. The cheesecake had no topping and didn’t taste fresh at all, ordered a cup of tea, only half of the cup was filled with warm water (I paid for full cup though). Will not return.

A true story of courage! This is a great visit and way less crowded than Anne Frank house. Highly recommended with knowledgeable tour guides.

This our favorite site we visited in Amsterdam. Guides are extremely knowledgeable and good storytellers (we were with Joyce, she did fantastic.) Tours are offered both in English and in Dutch, I would recommend reserving in advance (and don’t be late 😉). A great experience, you can really feel the strength and kindness of the family as you hear their story in their home.

We went without reservation and could make it due to some others not making it to their reservations. Our Jamaican guide Marguerite gave a great tour! This should be on your MUST SEE list for Haarlem. The story of Corrie ten Boom is amazing. What a woman. To see the house and imaging how these people lived during the war is sure to move you. The tour guide wasn't the best, he was a little bit scatter-brained and hard to follow, but it didn't detract from the building and the story of Corrie ten Boom.

We initially were disappointed as by the time we had finalized our travel plans all of the English tours were booked. It was pouring rain and so thanks to a few no-shows we were still able to join the tour. Sounds like that is not the norm. I have read many of Corrie ten Booms books and was thrilled to be able to step into the secret room and hold Corrie’s suitcase. So many of the stories shared I already was very familiar with, but to see it all in person was amazing. Just walking the streets of Haarlem filled with bicycles brought to mind Corrie pedaling her tireless bike through the city, rattling over the cobblestone on an errand for the resistance. Will never forget this!

This house is a place where God used the ten Boom family very powerful. A place where the light of Jesus shines in a dark world. This was the case before and during the second World War. Yet this is still the case. The presence of Gods Spirit is there still and the people who do the tours also have an intimate relationship with Jesus and passion for His kingdom with compassion for people. If you seek a life transforming experience with a loving God trough His Son Jesus, I highly recommend to visit this house. You cannot enter just like that. You need to reserve.

The Ten Boom museum is in Haarlem, Netherlands. This is the home where Corrie Ten Boom's family hid Jews during World War II. Her story was featured in the 1975 movie "The Hiding Place." The museum was closed for a special event the day we visited, but the jewelry shop that was in the bottom of the house (which used to be the family clock shop during WWII) permitted us to look in the back to see a portion of the house though we could not enter it that day. That is how I got a few shots of the interior including the staircase and living room of the house.

An amazing story, even though I already knew most of the story of the family because I read the book The Hiding Place place as a child. Getting the chance to visit here was amazing. The museum staff did a amazing job of telling their story and pointing out important of what this family did with great detail. Loved it & we had a great experience. We did not have an appointment when got there but they had space to join the tour. (Later, I was told that usually you can’t get in without book ahead since space is limited.) The tour was absolutely fascinating & so worth it. Highly recommended this place.

Very nice, and fairly 'new' catholic cathedral. You can climb both the dome - internal view only - and the two towers - with lovely views over Haarlem. It's a lot of relatively narrow stairs but wel maintained and clean. Also because the church is fairy new - construction started in 1895 - so there are some more modern windows and wall paintings.

Even though this is the view from my apartment, it took me years to visit the Basiliek. And I am soooo happy that I did. I actually came back two more times as I was so impressed. Honestly, if you are around, stop by and go up both the dome as well as the clock tower. You will not be disappointed.

Worth the detour from the Grote Markt area to visit this Catholic cathedral. The audio guide is totally worth it as it explain the architect’s design concept and more details surrounding the history of the church. There is a Museum underneath that we skipped due to a time crunch. The climb to the clock tower was not available on that day (Sunday). The stained glass windows, the glazed stones, the interplay of light and shadows was quite beautiful.

We went to see the Xmas crypt dioramas and were lucky enough to do so before this lockdown. Really special for kids and adults. The church itself is fairly magnificent if you like churches. Very welcoming for kids but the crypt has stairs.

What a beautiful place to visit! I've lived in Haarlem my entire life, but only went here a long time ago on a school trip. We paid to have the tour into the big towers, added in the 1920's. It's a very interesting place to wander through, where you get a lot of freedom to pace yourselves. Lots of winding stairs, mind your head... Free entrance, but the tour only costs €7.50 and supports the maintenance of the building.

As a hypnotherapist, I, of course, am interested in anything of the mind, which I consider to be everything in our human experience. This museum has done such an amazing job of putting things together. As was suggested by some of the previous reviewers, I didn't book online, and I showed up early, like 11am to give myself ample time to get it through. The exhibits are not overwhelmingly a lot. The place, though very interesting, is not even huge. What is an integral part is the multi-media device they give you. You can listen in as in any other museum. Furthermore, on the device, you can watch clips of videos, do quizzes etc. It's all beautifully orchestrated. I spent 4.30 hours there, including a lunch break right there in the cafe. A very enjoyable experience.

Only the price is a little unbelievable high, 20euro for an adult. Exhibits might be many, but less interesting.

This is one of my favourite museums ever!! So informative so interesting! Is a must go when in the Netherlands, 10 min away from the station of Haarlem also!! Have I photographed the whole place? Seems like it, but definitely not!! So so much more to see in the visit!! I went at 11 and took me 4 hours, with one of the guided tours, to finish! There are many types of guide that can be chosen, I advise you to first scroll to all as some tell just about some of the arts, some tell about them all!! I was advised to use the highlights one but ended up using the full one explaining everything in the museum+ had some extra video to understand better!! I loved it so much I can't wait to go back again!! And to visit the Amsterdam location too!!

This museum won a European museum of the year 2022. It has an interactive audio tour on what is normal, outsider art and some introspective quizzes. It is all related to the mind, psychology and wellbeing. The museum was a building that housed people that were mentally disturbed and/or had infectious diseases like leprosy. Worth a visit!

Overall, disappointing. We came here for the history of this beautiful building and a real representation of life for people living here in the past. Instead we were greeted with "an interactive way to look at mental health". It feels as though the history has been blatantly ignored and pushed away. While the tour provides some description of the rooms you visit, you do not get much more than 50 words and the same 5 pictures used again and again. Psychology and psychiatry in modern day is very important and to disregard the history and how far it has been developed is disrespectful and ignorant.

Wonderful exhibit about mindfulness, mental health, treatment of the homeless and elderly and do much more. Great little tablet for the audio guide, easy to use and navigate. The only thing keeping me from a five star review is that the full tour was just way too long. In order to hear all the stories and fully participate in the exhibits, it takes several hours to get all the way through, and this was not communicated especially clearly at the beginning of the tour. There are shorter options, but they need to be clearly explained. The quality and content of the rooms and the tour as a whole were excellent. Well worth an exploration.

The old city gate of Haarlem, Netherlands is so cute and the fort it just ideal for beautiful pictures. It’s absolutely not crowded and there’s no entry fee. Looking at the old pictures of the poort to now looks just as authentic. Great that it’s free to walk through this spectacular architecture.

Surrounding the wall and gate were thornbushes to deter enemies from getting close to the gate but as the city grew throughout the centuries, more of the wall and gates gotten dismantled. Beautiful museum that I visited during ‘Museum in Bloom’ exhibition. You can admire here various paintings from the Dutch Golden Age era as well as furniture, ceramics, glass and silver. The art and interior was looking amazing with live flowers arranged through the whole museum. Children really enjoyed watching the Doll House. The patio is very beautiful with many benches and tables. Also the cafe is a great addition (the terrace is a reall hidden gem, especially when it’s sunny). I’d not recommend visiting it with little children (up to 3-4 year old) as I was asked to hold my little one by hand at all times. It was fine, but not really easy or handy.
