(Translated by Google) Kyushu 100 Famous Mountains No.78
(20230208 Refills start)
One of Yakushima's overwhelming rocky peaks that pierces the sky. Climb up one of the most difficult roads to reach the top of the mountain.
1st ascent record
201603 My wife and I visited Yakushima with a full mountain climbing plan.
I’ve been longing for the stone at the top✨
By chance, there was a rocket launch from Tanegashima, but I couldn't see it from the top due to the steep climb, but the best part was the great view from the top and the scenery at the base!! ️
I made a round trip from the Mt. Mocchomu trailhead. Climb time unknown.
2nd ascent record
This is my third time climbing Yakushima as I am currently on a tour of Kyushu's 100 Famous Mountains.
As usual, we took a late-night ferry from Kagoshima to reach the summit of Yakushima with our car, climbing Mt. Aiko on the first day, climbing Mt. Tachu on the second day, climbing Mt. Miyanoura, Mt. Nagata, and Mt. Kuromi on the third day, and climbing Mt. Kuromi on the fourth day. The day ended with climbing Mt.Motchomu.
I summited 20240319 and made the round trip from the same Mt. Motchomu trailhead as last time at 3:30.
(Although the distance is short, there are many places where you can't walk smoothly, and even if you are fast, it will take at least 3 hours (let's aim for 4 hours or more)
The route profile is easy to understand with photos, but to put it simply, you can drive to the trailhead, there is a shop, there is a steep climb for a considerable distance from the first climb, and the trail becomes gentle from the beginning of the second half, but there are lots of tree roots and sideways walking. etc. Very difficult to walk. After that, you have to climb a little steeply to reach the highest point, but from here on, Mt.Motchomu becomes tougher. There was a series of steep descents from the highest point, but there were also some climbs, and we had to use ropes. Also, the narrow ridge is covered with bamboo, so if you carelessly remove the scaffolding, you will die instantly!
However, if you push yourself for 20 minutes from the highest point, you will reach the long-awaited Mt. Motchomu.
The view from here is overlooking the residential area and coastline at the foot of the mountain, as well as the gigantic monolith next door (rock climbing area?).
Although this mountain is very short in distance, it is a steep climb due to the difference in elevation. Therefore, it is best to grab nearby roots and branches with both hands. It might be more convenient to have a cane, but there are many rope sections in the second half, so it's likely to get in the way.
It's nice to see some unusual scenery in the mountains of Yakushima from the trailhead, but I highly recommend seeing it from the top!
Also, please enjoy the hard mountain climbing (lol)
Please be careful as there is no information board.)
I climbed in the light rain on Tuesday and didn't meet anyone.
I knew from the reviews that there weren't many climbers, but it felt lonely.
If you are visiting Yakushima, are you aiming for a course where you can see Jomon Cedar or one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains?
However, I don't think I'll get lost as there are ropes and pink tape that prevent entry, but there was one spot where I got lost, and as a result, I ended up driving a considerable distance the wrong way for 10 minutes. I also lost it.
Actually, I can't believe I lost the same way I came a minute ago. Let's not accept it as early-onset dementia, probably due to the darkness caused by the rain.
This time, I planned to climb Yakushima Bullet Climb (Yakushima Kyushu 100 Famous Mountains Conquest Plan), but when I finished it, I walked a lot of distance and altitude, but I also had to pass an air salon on Mt. Miyanoura and apply compresses after climbing. Because I didn't neglect to take care of my feet, I was able to finish without any strange pain in my legs.Although it rained on the 2nd and 4th after the climbing day, I think it was a good thing except for the gas on Mt. Taichudake due to the change in the process!
Next time, when my kids grow up, I want to go to Mt. Miyanoura and Jomon Cedar.
By the way, I was planning to return by the first ferry the next morning, but while I was climbing the mountain, I received a call from the ferry company, but the cell phone reception was poor and I couldn't understand what was being said. I thought it would be a departure notice, but after about 500m I got a call from the ferry company, and I heard that the ferry was cancelled, and that another company's flight was leaving at 13:30. I also had good signal on the way, so I should have called, but I kept insisting that they contact me.
However, even though I overslept in the morning, I was still active, so I was able to catch the ferry back home a day early, but the round trip discount for the ferry was no longer available, and I lost 100% of the cancellation fee for the guesthouse, which was 19,000 yen. did.
However, what I can say is that if you look at the weather tomorrow, the wind will be strong all day long, and if you think that all the ferry companies will cancel their flights, you will have no choice but to take the risk of wasting your free time two days later and paying for additional lodging. I learned that I should always keep an eye on the weather forecast when I visit.
