After driving by this place many times, Boyfriend and I finally tried it last weekend, and are thinking of going back this weekend too. I saw another review that said this is a great little local spot, not a tourist spot, and I completely agree. I mean, who comes to Bodega Bay for burgers, hot dogs, and fries instead of clam chowder? The spot is tucked away near Fishetarian, a realtor's office, and right next door to a small espresso/ice cream place. There are a few tables outside, a few small tables inside, and a small counter you can eat at that faces the window. They have lots of old-timey hot dog themed signs on the walls.
Everything on the menu comes with UNLIMITED hand cut fries, which was the first reason I wanted to come here. Boyfriend and I both ordered the half-pound burger and I was going to order a side of onion rings, but the nice girl at the counter suggested swapping one of our sides for onion rings, since the fries are unlimited anyway. The burgers come on hot dog buns, so they shape the hamburger patties to match. Boyfriend and I agree that it is very clever and a good way to stand out. When our orders were ready, we proceeded to the condiments counter. The burgers (and presumably the hot dogs too) come with just meat in a bun, and you add the toppings yourself. They have lots of sauces: ketchup, mustard, deli mustard, thousand island, ranch, and probably a few others I've forgotten. They also have tomatoes, lettuce, sliced onions, pickles. I love the idea of adding the toppings yourself so you can get exactly what you want.
The burgers were delicious and perfectly cooked. A little bit pink in the middle and a little bit drippy when you bite into it. The onion rings probably came from a frozen bag but those were really good too. Crispy and with a smooth outside. The fries were yummy and thick, a little bit squishy like most hand cut fries are. We rationed the onion rings but went hard on the fries, finishing off a second basket before we left. Boyfriend was impressed that, when we asked for foil to cover our leftovers, they gave us heavy duty foil. Our meal came out to about $30. We will definitely be going here on a regular basis.
