Harry's Lounge Bar & Brasserie in Whitby is a charming spot praised for its lovely atmosphere, attentive staff, and delicious food. Reviewers highlighted the seafood linguine as a standout dish, along with the fabulous fish platter and camembert. The service was commended for being friendly and efficient, while the cocktails were noted to be good. Guests appreciated the clean surroundings, tasteful decor, and convenient location in the heart of Whitby.
We arrived at Harry’s Lounge on a wintry November evening where we were met with warmth from the staff who saw to our every need. From the first moment we were at home. I parked on Khyber Pass towards the back of the hotel, which was convenient. In the morning I found a short cut leaving from the back of the hotel.
The room was beautiful with a stunning view looking across the water. It was clean and well appointed. The hotel bar had a good ambiance and was full of life in the evenings. The cocktails were good. The selection of beer was to our liking. It was a really nice place to be.
Breakfasts were excellent. We only stayed two nights and the one meal at the hotel was most definitely memorable. The only downside was that we couldn’t stay over on Sunday night because of work commitments.
Thanks to all the staff who looked after us when we were there. You helped make our trip to Whitby even more than we’d hoped. Recommended and we hope to return in the summer.
A lovely restaurant/ coffee house. We called today and had coffee x 2. It was £6.40 for both. The latte was lovely. Service was carried out with a smile. The atmosphere is good and the surrounding decor is tasteful. There is an undercover seated area outside too. Toilets are clean. Right in the centre of Whitby.
So, I don't like leaving poor reviews so I will mention the good point before I go on my rant. I had the chowder for a starter and it was beautiful! It was a very good portion size and was very good value for money. The lady that served me was polite and helpful.
Now, the bad bits. Myself and my wife ordered a sirloin steak with pepper sauce off the menu. When they arrived we both were very surprised and disappointed. It was sliced up and ontop of a pile of fries which were covered in peppers, onions, spring onions, non of which were on the menu. We were expecting a nice steak with a side of fries, which we didn't receive. If that wasn't bad enough, all the fries were covered with cheese that had gone hard and so the whole dish was one big congealed mess. The steak was of poor quality and was very chewy. Disgusting!!!! On top of this, the owner of the bar was sitting at the end of the bar and watched everyone eat like he was waiting to come over and have ago! I felt very over looked as did the lovely couple next to us who left before they had food after seeing the treatment we received.
Then, to add insult to injury the lady that brought our bill told us there was a 5percent discretionary service charge on top of the bill. My wife asked for this to be removed. The whole meal was a waste of our money and time. As the bill was nearly 80quid which was way to expensive. One jack and joke coming in at nearly 9 pounds! Robbery.
I don't like leaving bad reviews but I want anyone who may use this place to be aware of this. Don't go expecting a nice simple well cooked steak.
What a find! Lovely welcome and amazing food. Staff were exceptionally attentive. We shared a fabulous fish platter and a camenbert which were delicious. Wine selection was good and served properly - thank you. Best creme brulee we had ever tasted. Highly recommend and can't wait to visit Whitby again.
Just called in for some lunch.
Very Nice staff and helpful.
Good selection of food and drink.
So good we booked a table for tonight as well.
Looking forward to that as well. A different menu and will have some specials to choose from as well.
Not aware of any parking. Good choices if you are Gluten free on the puddings and will update on the mains tonight.
