Whitby

Whitby is an ancient seaside community with a rich cultural heritage and proud history of trade, fishing and shipbuilding. It's a great place to visit for anyone who wants to understand how Britain's seafaring heritage has shaped the country, and is actually the location where Captain James Cook learnt seamanship. The gothic ruins of Whitby’s Abbey have been used by sailors as a landmark when entering the River Esk, and is the setting for Bram Stoker’s famous novel Dracula.
