Bistro Maison is a charming bistro in the historical downtown area, offering delicious French cuisine with exceptional service. Reviewers highlighted dishes like fondue, duck confit, and cassoulet as must-tries. The cozy atmosphere and extensive wine list were praised, although some mentioned crowded seating. Despite minor issues like rushed service or smoky odors from the owner smoking, guests appreciated the locally sourced ingredients and attentive staff. Overall, Bistro Maison stands out for its warm ambiance reminiscent of a loving French couple's home.
We had another fantastic dining experience here. We got the fondue along with a duck dish and and chicken dish that were both excellent but the duck dish was the better of the two. We also got the creme brulee dessert and a lovely bottle of wine for the dinner. There is a huge wine list and we got an excellent suggestion from the owner on a bottle that went with what we ordered.
Food was pretty good. We definitely weren’t blown away, just expected a little better for the price but it was a cute place and the service was pretty good. Our dessert was the best part of the meal. Next time we would go just for dessert
Not entirely a giant complaint, but enough for the restaurant to consider: The floor plan was so crowded when we were there that the whole night felt like we were being rushed through a seating to make room for the next round of carnival riders. The owner made the rounds of the dining room, in close quarters, reeking of freshly smoked cigarette. The smell stayed with us through the experience to the point I was looking for an errant ash tray placed nearby. We could not figure it out until she came around again and it became obvious. Sadly, that was just before I turned to see her digging some errant flotsam out of a dinner glass of ice water on a table nearby with her bare fingers, and leave the water glass on the table expectant of arriving diners. Given this is farm country, none of these things are surprising or even a deal breaker for myself, having grown up in similar environs, but please, owners and proprietors, take these things into account. The food was very good in a home spun way, though I could make it all at home myself with relative ease and often do. The atmosphere was quaint. Please, quit smoking. it was just such a terrible nuance to the night. We might come back if we are nearby. Might.
The level of service and dedication from the staff is beyond remarkable. I love that the atmosphere is not only for adults but welcoming of our young adults, too. We sent our group of kids for a nice dinner before prom. For most of them, this was their first experience. They were well taken care of and absolutely loved the food and experience. I cannot thank you all enough.
