Beautiful place and a great beach for surfing. Sometimes the waves are to high and scary, but usually it is good for my intermediate-beginner-learner level ;) The beach is smaller than the other Baleal beach (sul), but usually has better conditions for learning to surf. But it is also cool to sit there, there are some rocks that can protect you from the wind. One thing though, there are like two big rocks 🪨 in the water, that you can’t see from the beach. Be carful when you surf there not to hit one of them when falling off board. Other than that, it’s a great spot. Highly recommend, for surfing, lying on the beach or maybe even doing some tough on the sand :)

nice place for surfing, but there are a lot of people and wind, but there is some school of surf, so, if you go fo the beach when the school are in another place you can stay whitout much people…if you love skate surf and beers there is many places to rent skates and chill in a little bowl

Berlengas is an gorgeous island off the coast of Peniche. Access to the island is via a ferry ride or speedboat. The island has a small beach where you can relax on. For the more adventurous, you can hike along the trails to explore the fort, which was a former prison, or take a ride on a glass bottom boat through the many caves and grottos around the island. Time between ferry rides is approximately 3.5 hours.

Berlengas Islands are a fascinating place, full of history and with the perfect conditions to be the shelter for a huge range of animals and plants. The Islands are located around 10 km (6milles) from the coast of Peniche, where all the ferries to Berlengas Islands depart from.

Beautiful island with great history, a must visit! Water is beautiful and clear. It is also freezing even in the summer however, you feel refreshed after swimming. The fishermen are also friendly and super lovely.

It's worth visiting if you are heading Peniche. Try to go on a sunny day and take your runners to explore the island. Enjoy a beer and percebes with a view.

Spent a fun day on the island, and touring the surrounding cliffs and caves as part of our tour ticket. As an older, overweight person(no points removed for my shortcomings,) it was a steep climb up the hill to the restaurants, and I didn’t go any further than that. I would imagine, as a fit, younger person, this would be a fun place to explore to whole of the island. It is also possible to spend the night on the island.

Truly paradise on earth. You get there with the half hour boat ride from Peniche and then take a few minutes to recover from the beauty of the place. There's a short hike around the island that's best done when sunny. You can also take a boat ride into the caves, which I'd very highly recommend. The boats usually have a transparent glass floor through which you can see the ocean bed directly. Every bit of this trip has an "Aaha!!" moment to impart. It's possible to stay back in the hostel in a really really old fort on the island. And you can also set up camp in the allocated sites. Do remember, this is a natural reserve, so you need to take back to the mainland any garbage you have. No trash bins on this island. :)

Nice view and stunning coastline. It's worth to make a short trip to this place. Plenty of parking spots (after season) available.

The views are spectacular! The waves crashing on the rocks are just phenomenal. You can hop in a car an drive around the area until you get to the lighthouse and walk some more by the rocks but be careful as you may fall this is not a closed off area. There's some unofficial parking, and there's always lots of people around taking photos of the magnificent sightings. As you drive around you will see some crosses on the way from people that have died, so please be careful if walking, biking or driving and not paying attention to the road, there's lots of curves and it's a very distracting view of the ocean. There's some chapels along the way, since it's Portugal there's always a chapel or a church nearby... And as always just beautifully crafted and meaningful to the area. This is a great place to visit, to have a nice picnic, have some inspiration, meditate (if that's your thing) and take lots of pictures of nature. The shot I took was as close as I felt comfortable to go walking on the rocks, you may get a lot closer just be careful, have good shoes on and watch your step.

Great island to visit. Camping seemed like a popular attraction and is definitely worth a try. The food was excellent, they had a variety of fresh fish to choose from. Overall great experience!

An early renaissance fort guarding the old port of Peniche with a long history, stretching all the way to the 1970s. The place opens only in the afternoon, so plan accordingly. The place overlooks cliffs and rocks and is very picturesque.

The place is very original, you have a rough and particular service, but if you don't take it seriously, it's fine. The food is regular, nothing amazing, but not bad at all. Good menus, check them.

One of my favourite stops at this amazing architectural masterpiece which served as an imposing defense to the honour of Portugal, which was sadly tainted when, under the dictatorship of Salazar, the fort was turned into a state prison, housing around 2000 political prisoners over the ages, who suffered the most degrading injustices in this place, reminiscent of the soviet era at its worst. Exciting escape stories, prisoners sketches & letters, prison records and cells were profoundly moving for me. The museum is a must for a tiny entrance fee, where the history of Peniche, its trade, the fort and the battles fought, as well as its more recent history as a prison. Absolutely fascinating. Our deepest thanks to Dona Ana Luisa, an employee for over 2 decades who was kind enough to open the chapel and told us some great stories. Get there soon, the fort is due to be closed to the public for a prolonged period (years) for much needed restoration works.

Beautiful area to visit. The restaurants around it are mostly seafood. Didn't go inside the fort itself, but the area around it is great. During peak tourist season there are boats leaving from the harbour to the islands.

The new museum of resistance and freedom should be part of everyone's trip to Peniche. High quality exhibitions and free admission. An important part of history, not to be missed! Open 10-6pm, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Amazing, we had a great time there ! i booked a lesson by phone and had an excellent service with a happy employee. We did a full day of surf with coach Bernardo, he is nice, cheerful and his teaching is great, right on point, with a lot of encouragement and feedback. The rest of the team/coaches were really nice too, the place and its people have the surfer’s chill vibe witch is amazing and part of the experience. I definitely recommend this surf school, thank you again for the incredible experience !

Nice material and well located, but some surf instructors act like they own the beach and are aggressive to others surfers. For me it was over « security concerns » but probably more to have the peak for them. And even should has it been valid (I think not, I am cautious and never had an incident in 4 years of surfing), nowhere this justifies the physical and verbal aggressive behavior I have seen. Coming from a « surf instructor », that does not play well. Just for that I do not recommend.

Fantastic service! Very helpful crew, we order the transfer from Lisbon airport to Peniche and super nice driver Carlos pick us up :) surf class were also great, small groups and the teachers very well explained the surf technic and were giving us a lot of advice while surfing 🏄‍♀️

I stayed here for two weeks after my van broke down in Peniche. Reception made arriving late super easy and were very flexible with my arrival time, and many extensions. The whole reception team were fun and very approachable for the rest of my stay. I took two surf lessons while staying here, the instructors are very knowledgeable and give very useful pointers, while keeping the session light hearted and enjoyable! Absolutely recommend.

Spent here a beautiful surfing-summer vacay (August 2016)! The staff were so friendly and helpful, great atmosphere and lots of fun! Rooftop chill, good food and music, and of course, everything you need for surf! Prices are fair. Would really recommend it, esp.for young active people, who enjoy parties and making new friends :)

I've been to Peniche surfcamp a few times and it was always a great experience. Surfing wise, the instructors are the best I've ever had so you'll definitely make a progress here. What is also worth to mention, last time I've surfed here I had an accident in the water (torn ligament) and I can only say that the way all the instructors around reacted and gave me help before ambulance arrived was perfect so in any scenario (even the worst one) you can feel completely safe because guys really know what they're doing and they know how to take care of you quickly. The front desk was also very helpful with all the stuff that happened to me so thank you all. Can't wait to come back and fully recommend this place for everyone! :)

I surfed and stayed here on February and it was great! Peniche is a lot less busier at this time which made the surfing a much better experience. JP and the other surf coaches were so good and I feel like I learn so much in 1 week! Thanks :)

We came back here 3x during our week long stay in Peniche. Tiago, their instructor, was amazing and our three young boys had a blast. They stood up dozens of times. The staff was professional, safe and I appreciated the bright shirts for students as it was easy to spot them in the water.

I've been taking surf lessons for several months at Peniche Surf Camp, and the entire experience has been exceptional. The surf instructors are incredibly competent and went above and beyond in teaching us not only the practical skills but also the theory behind surfing, which significantly contributed to our progress in catching waves! Special thanks to Pedro, JP, Jaime, Capi, Gino, and Bernardo; their passion for surfing was infectious, and their commitment to our progress made each lesson not only educational but also incredibly enjoyable. Special appreciation goes to Emilija, the photographer, who skillfully captured the essence of our surfing journey with her lens, making it unforgettable! The organization was flawless, with careful consideration given to the best time and location for surfing. Joana and Diogo at the reception provided more than prompt communication and speedy assistance; their warm hospitality and genuine enthusiasm for ensuring our satisfaction truly enhanced our overall experience! The time at Peniche Surf Camp instilled in me a newfound confidence and love for surfing that I'll carry with me for years to come. Highly recommended!

Beware. Unsafe. Dangerous. We booked a private lesson months in advance of our trip and hired a private driver to take us to the surf lesson. They took our money then told us that they didn't have my son on the reservation list. They asked us to come back later (we couldn't because of our private driver's schedule). Then they placed our son in a group surf lesson which was awful and too basic for his level. Then they proceeded to leave him behind at the beach. The class ended and they left him. We had to go and find our son at the beach, find a place to drop off his board and walk back to the office. Then we proceeded to deal with Joanna and the manager who wouldn't refund our money. We traveled from the US for a surfing experience and only got a lesson in the WORST services and staff in Portugal. They left our 16 year old (who doesn't speak Portuguese) behind in the ocean and they fought us on getting a refund. Save yourself the headache and go to Blue Ocean at the Ericeira World Surf Reserve in Ribeira D' Ilhas for a much safer and more professional experience. Peniche Surf School is UNSAFE & DANGEROUS.

Best surf teaching I've ever had! The teacher was really professional and made sure that we learned as much as possible. Everything was really well organised too. Warmly recommended!

We were staying at Peniche Surfcamp for one week September 2020 (7days, 5 days surfing). To be fair and give a better understanding I'd like to distinguish my review for this place between surf school (surf lessons and equipment) and camp (accommodation & food) Surf school: ***** 5 stars rating. Really good instructors which really take care that you learn the right surf techniques and gives you for each surf session a briefing for the actual waves and weather conditions. Very supportive also in the waves. At the end of the 5 surfing days we were able to catch green waves by our selves. Equipment was also good and well maintained. Corona rules are strictly followed. We liked the flexibility of the surf lessons and the great & lean organization - they really want you to spend as much time as possible in the waves surfing. Highly recommended 👍 Surfcamp (accommodation & food): ** - *** (2-3 stars). Also there staff is nice and friendly. Accommodation is basic but allright and clean. Like the kitchen there. However sheets are only changed after a 7days stay. Otherwise you have to pay extra. Food is from my point or view really the drawback of this camp. Breakfast is everyday literally exactly the same basic selection. (buns, cheese & ham, fruits juice, coffee, cereals). Dinner: often very simple and sometimes even not sufficient to have a bit more if you still feel hungry after a fully day of surfing. Considering the basic meals absolutely not understandably (e. g. Chili con Carne). Highlight were the grilled sardines at the end of the week. There we had surely enough, but it seems only as some guests didn't show up. (food is served between 8.30pm and 9pm in the dining room where usually everyone gets together. Good chance to play table tennis or kicker with others - however you have to be there before 9pm otherwise your plates are gone!). Free water was only included until dessert was served, meaning while you are eating your dessert and you wanted to fill up the shared water jar... You had to pay 🤷‍♂️ Meals are repeating after a week. Vegan/vegetarian food options available, but also always the same /super similar. Prices for beverages seem to be random and not according to what was stated on their price list. At the end they removed the price list completely. Very intransparent. Up to you whether you wanna go for that for 7 days or even longer. To sum up - surf school is great and highly recommend. And if you stay in the surf camp I'd rather go without the meals to have a better variety and quality.

Since discovering Drop Surf Center about 5 years ago I've returned with my family every year to take lessons with Nelson and his super-friendly team. I was back this week and although the conditions were a little challenging had the most fantastic surf lesson at Praia Lagide, moving beyond the basics, getting out back and progressing with my turns. Tuition is very clear and effective, these guys and girls really know what they're doing.

Nelson is just all an round great instructor and a great guy in general. Really helped improve both my surfing and confidence in a short period of time. When I finished my surf lesson early, he told me to come back the next day where he lent me a surfboard and wetsuit free of charge. Will be back if I'm ever in Baleal again!

Cannot recommend this surf school enough. Nelson made us feel like family! We had 3 lessons over four days - his teaching is excellent, making sure he really explains the way of the sea to support you to be a more independent surfer. He is fun and makes the sessions really enjoyable. Our class size were always 4 people or less so it’s almost a private session! Will be a tough surf instructor to beat!

If you really want to know how to surf, Nelson's drop surf center is the right place to go. He is a great instructor ( you learn from a pro here) and gives you a holistic package of practical training and technique, and everything you need to know about the nature of waves, how to read them, how to move and behave in the water and of course how to have fun :) I was a bloody beginner and got definitely inspired to pursue surfing in the future, cant wait to come back! It was amazing to have my first surfing class ever with Nelson, he’s a great coach!! During 4 classes I managed to start catching waves, it was so exciting! Thanks the whole team for having me, hope to return someday!

One of the best teacher I ever had in my life. Great experience. Nelson is very friendly and open minded. I did surfing few times earlier but I learned from YouTube 💀 Nelson gave my few tips and i started to catch every wave.

I learnt so much from Nelson at Drop and had so much fun at the same time. They really care about you learning and building confidence in the water. Great for all levels of ability and know exactly where to go in any weather condition. I feel so lucky to have found a surf school like Drop.

We have had some lessons with Nelson and he is a great teacher. We learned a lot, Nelson was patient and always friendly. Highly recommended!
