A lovely place to watch the sun go down the horizon.
It is common for people to gather and drop by to watch the sunset. If the sky is clear, one is able to see Berlengas and Farilhões.
Sometimes, at night, if the sky helps, one is able to see various fishing boats together in the South of Berlengas. It kind of looks like they are having a party (even though that's not the case).

Nice view and stunning coastline. It's worth to make a short trip to this place. Plenty of parking spots (after season) available.

The views are spectacular! The waves crashing on the rocks are just phenomenal. You can hop in a car an drive around the area until you get to the lighthouse and walk some more by the rocks but be careful as you may fall this is not a closed off area. There's some unofficial parking, and there's always lots of people around taking photos of the magnificent sightings. As you drive around you will see some crosses on the way from people that have died, so please be careful if walking, biking or driving and not paying attention to the road, there's lots of curves and it's a very distracting view of the ocean. There's some chapels along the way, since it's Portugal there's always a chapel or a church nearby... And as always just beautifully crafted and meaningful to the area. This is a great place to visit, to have a nice picnic, have some inspiration, meditate (if that's your thing) and take lots of pictures of nature. The shot I took was as close as I felt comfortable to go walking on the rocks, you may get a lot closer just be careful, have good shoes on and watch your step.
If you're looking for an amazing seafood restaurant in Nazare, look no further than Sítio dos Petiscos. The fresh, well-seasoned dishes are sure to satisfy even the most discerning palate, and the large portions make it a perfect spot for a romantic dinner or family gathering. The friendly staff is always happy to help with anything you need, and the setting is idyllic - sitting outside surrounded by greenery gives you all the privacy you could desire.
Stunning place! The view is breathtaking! There’s just no places like this! You can stare at the seaside, sun shining in the waves, boats entering the port - it’s a miracle. Simple and short menu. Mastering the dishes! Sea bass is juicy and meaty. With fries and veggies added. The meat is like never and nowhere before. And the attentive and personal service! We loved it to every bit.

Nice staff, really nice entries. The octopus was a bit dry and for the price I would expect a bigger portion abd better seasoning. Everyone else had no complaints about their orders. Overall it was pretty good. The view is gorgeous

Great food, but as importantly the staff, friendly, knowledgeable. I will be back.
In Portuguese, Pregado, English, turbot. Delicious.

Wonderful fish lunch and the Pica Pau is also great! We would give it a 5 all round if not for the unfortunate construction works currently spoiling the view. 😔 Otherwise the quality of the food is amazing, service is good and a overall great Portuguese food experience.

Great seafood, absolutely perfectly prepared. Fresh, well seasoned and super large portions. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. View To-die-for:). Difficult to find in the windy streets of Nazaré— but well worth the trek.

To be honest - it was my third choice after the other restaurants where closing.
I don’t like to be on touristic places for food.
BUT IT IS DEFINITELY NOT
the staff is lovely. They advise on your taste what to eat.
The food is amazing. The house wine melts in the mouth. Totally recommended and definitely coming back ;)

An authentic taste of the sea! Fresh catch, expertly prepared, and served with a smile. A must-visit for seafood lovers exploring the coastal charm of Nazaré.

We’ve just had a fabulous dining experience in this cozy restaurant. The monkfish rice we ordered exceeded our expectations: the portion turned out to be huge and cooked fully from scratch. The dish was so delicious - and certainly worth the time and money - that we even asked to take the rest away. Needless to say, the staff was helpful, friendly and attentive.

What a find! After a long drive from the upper Douro we found Sitio dos Petiscos on a cool windy Sunday evening in September when every other restaurant in the upper town seemed to be closed. So glad that we did. It was almost full, but the staff were so friendly and helpful and found us a table, and we took their recommended choice from the menu, the seafood rice. It was superb. I don't think that I have ever tasted a better seafood dish. Intense flavours, steaming hot when it arrived and full of wonderful things. The generous pan contained almost more than we could eat. We went back for lunch next day and the grilled fish was equally impressive and thoroughly enjoyed. A restaurant not to be missed. Very highly recommended.
Nazare Beach is an incredibly picturesque golden sand beach located in the town of Nazare, on the Silver Coast of Portugal. The beach is well known for its giant waves and attractive scenery, making it a popular destination for surfers and sunbathers alike. In addition to the beautiful sandy beaches, Nazare also has a long coastline with charming fishing villages and friendly locals.
Nazare used to be know as a fishing village nowadays is more for the big surf waves. The town is absolutely gorgeous.

Loved it. We saw waves up to 8 metres high which was still so impressive to just sit on the cliff and watch the surfers. AMAZING!

Very touristy, but worth seeing. There are so many attractions around! Viewing points, walking trails, tram lift, little chapel, light house, and of course beach and sea, with plenty of water sports!

We visited on a cold and wet January, but the village still has charm. An excellent beach and a multitude of restaurants - albeit of varying quality.
Without a doubt, the waves are spectacular, and a walk to the lighthouse is worth the effort.
Peter Holdway — Google review
Beautiful wide, sandy beach with astonishing views. Perfect place to chill, get a nap or just to enjoy your holidays.
The water is kinda cold, so don't expect spending a lot of time in the water. Getting a ball to play football or volleyball is a must!
Mateusz Grabarczyk — Google review
Beautiful place! Soft sand, right in the town, glorious waves, freezing water😂
Patrick Lightsprite — Google review
It's a great experience to swim here. Constant waves, which are not small and can easily knock you over if you're not careful. It's a large beach, but the lifeguards constantly supervise and immediately warn you if you go too far. The sand is deep, making it difficult to walk, and it's also hot and prickly to walk barefoot. The restroom is very far from the shore.
G?bor Balogh — Google review
This is a magnificent beach. The waves are strong and beautiful, the beach is clean of litter and there is a coast guard watching over the beach goers. The air is fresh and we can do yoga, jogging and exercises there besides hanging out with family and friends.
Sunsets are beautiful and on a clear night, you can see the stars and moon in stunning clarity.
Along the beach you will see seafood being dried and sold. It’s truly unique.

Large, open, clean beach full of people and everything you'd really need. As a big tourist place, it has a myriad of stores, restaurants, doughnuts and much more.
Due to COVID, showers are out of order and if you're camping near, or on the beach, better find somewhere to maintain hygiene.
Andrej Tasevski Mestrovic — Google review
Stunning view from the ocean right ate the arrival and an even more glorious beach when you get there. Traffic may be a little chaotic on summer but definitely worth it.
Andre Gregorio — Google review
Although you can find the big waves on the other side of the fortress, the waves here can still be impressive on stormy days. The beach is huge, which is useful when the crowds of people come during the summer days. The adjacent boulevard with fish racks and perpendicular street of Nazaré are wonderful places to stroll through. I love to climb higher up the hill and see the small streets merge with the sea down below.

Lovely beach in charming Nazare, it’s well looked after and the promenade is very clean. It’s amazing to come here when the sea is rough.

Just amazing, I think it is the widest beach that I’ve ever seen. So beautiful and quiet outside tourist season.
Ugnė Ringelevičiūtė — Google review
Wide sandy beach
Nice walk near the ocean. In April-September here is calm ocean, you can sunbathe and swim. From October to March it’s the best place to see giant waves.
Ul G — Google review
An amazing beach in Portugal, possibly one of the best sites in Europe to watch a sunset. All services are available, during summertime. It does get crowded, however there's plenty of space available. Dedicated space for sports such as football and volleyball. Highly recommended.
Carlos Bertoncini — Google review
Being undoubtedly the busiest beach on the west coast, Nazareth is one of the most traditional fishing villages, where some women dressed in the traditional seven skirts costume can still be found, taking care of the dry -dry fish, aligned on piles. The beach, completely integrated into the urban area and surrounded by the Marginal houses, retains the traditional canvas tents with strong colours stripes. Bathed by a normally brave sea with strong ripple, it is ideal for surfing and bodyboarding.
The Castle of Óbidos, a grand medieval fortress with origins dating back to the 9th century, offers hotel rooms for booking inside. Situated strategically to provide a commanding view of the city it is named after, this castle has maintained its remarkable condition throughout centuries and serves as an excellent destination for history enthusiasts. Its construction commenced over a thousand years ago during the 8th century when it was fortified by Muslims.
A charming village with narrow cobbled streets and loads of ginja( sour cherry 🍒 liqueur) to sample. You can walk on the old castle walls, admire the view and stop by in one of the many cafes or little shops that sell all types of wares. If you want to spend a pleasant afternoon this is the place.

Great historic site to stroll through with family and grab lunch. The historic town is still active, and you can walk either straight though the main street and residential areas of winding narrow roadways all the way to the main castle/now hotel point. If you don't fear a little height, walk the entire perimeter of the old town to the castle along the old guard walls where it will lend great views to the interior and also the exterior cascading hillsides nearby.
G Roberts — Google review
A historical place to promenade and stroll with free entry. The story behind this castle is romantic.
Embrace all beauty and magic that this site is offering!
I commended all people who climb the lofty, jagged narrow pavement! So courageous of them!

Super nice castle! The entire outer wall is preserved and one can walk over it entirely, surrounding the village of Óbidos.
The house in the inside are very beautiful and picturesque. There are many shops, souvenirs and restaurants. Almost no scammers or annoying people!
It’s also not very crowed so you’ll for sure enjoy your experience. I recommend parking somewhere outside the walls along the street as there is plenty of space.
Enjoy the sunset on top of the walls. You’ll like it.

This town is a must to visit. It gives authentic medieval vibes and it is full of nice shops and restaurants. Very typical is a local cherry based liquor ginja. If you have the chance to and visit this place. Very easy to reach and good parking spots. In summer time there is also a medieval festival

It's free to walk the wall and the streets of the town. To do so you will have to climb some pretty steep stairs without guardrails. Great views from the walls and towers.

Beautiful, picturesque, climatic place, its a hidden gem of Portugal, especially in the evening. Strolling trough the narrow medieval streets , food and local stuff: such a nice experience. It's a must go place!
Marcin Malek (Malq) — Google review
We went there to enjoy a stellar sunset from the wall and it was breathtaking. After entering the main gate just on the left you will see some steep stairs - and then some more! It climbs up quite high, the stones are slippery and there is no safety rail so I’d recommend comfortable but non-slippery shoes. We’ve seen a lot of people with slippers which seemed quite unsafe.
Inside the castle there is plenty of restaurant and shopping opportunities and to try the local ginjinha sour cherry liquor which was excellent.
Ed Zillmann — Google review
Beautiful castle with great view! The wall is fun but it could be quite dangerous as it has narrow steps and has no rails.
Keren C — Google review
Such a magical place to visit, and only just an hour outside Lisbon.
Busier during the Medieval Festival, Chocolate Festival and Christmas Festival.
Great to wander around the small streets within the castle walls and admire the great views of the Obidos countryside.

We came from Lisbon and arrived around 2pm. It was very packed with tourist but by 5-6pm everyone was leaving on their tour buses, so we had a good experience walking almost by ourselves in the town. I would say that you just need 2-3 hours to see the whole town and to go around the walls.
It’s a beautiful little pace to visit but you don’t need the whole day to explore. It has nice restaurants and souvenir shops.
Karla Rodríguez — Google review
Definitely worth a stop to this old medieval castle town. Nice narrow Cobblestone streets and walk in the castle. Cute shops and eateries. Hand made items much cheaper than Lisbon.
KB Raif MD — Google review
A nice castle where you can walk along the walls that encloses the small town and has some great views. Once we entered the castle we climbed up the stairs and walked counter clockwise to the villa at the far end. Once there we walked along the base of the wall on the outer side to get away from the sun while still enjoying the awesome views. Inside the walls there are shops and restaurants where most of the tourists from the buses mingle.
Sal FromCal — Google review
Such a fun place to go to! You can walk on the walls but they are without any rails and are steep. But I enjoyed walking there with my family and taking some cool pictures. There were places to eat, shops to buy souvenirs, houses, church. Loved the experience. We also drank ginja cherry liqueur in chocolate cups. Lots of places selling it for 1.5-2 Euros.
Sanjeeta Pai — Google review
Slice of history is well preserved but sadly cannot be fully explored. The castle is a luxury hotel and no entrance unless a guest at the hotel. There is parking on the roads by the castle and the roads are not that bad to drive. Once you park you can walk towards any of the steep steps or sloping roads to access the fort area.
The town inside the fort area is amazing with cathedrals, shops, houses. There are beautiful flowers everywhere making this town a fairytale place.
The outsides of the castle, medieval set up are all great to enjoy and view. The medieval fair was not much fun, sort of a dry show depending on the timing. We saw the falcon show and it was not worth it and we felt sorry for the birds. They should not be living in cages.
The fortress walls can be explored, walked but care must be taken as there are no support walls on one side most of the way. But worth walking to enjoy the glory of the forts history, views. There is a local bakery with vegan choices, amazing taste.
The shops here sell the local cherry liquor Ginjha de Obiedos and you can sample it before buying.

We went here in the good bright weather. Óbidos is really a special city. We stopped here on our way back to Porto from Lisbon.
You can explore the castle inside freely. We climbed and enjoyed the view. There are not many visitors during our visit at the end of January. It has museums , a cathedral, and a beautiful landscape view. I remembered that we do not pay any ticket admission.
Parking for cars is available nearby.

A lovely and nice medieval old town. You can explore the whole town just by foot. There are a lot of restaurants in the old town, we tried the paella (not traditional but still amazing, flavourful and tasty) And the Portuguese styled steak (which isn't that good but still nice and lovely.
A lot of stairs, so you might be a bit tired. But you can get a nice cherry alcohol chocolate shot all for around one euro A shot. You can too sit and relax at a small cafe and order coffee and pastries.

What a beautifully built palace. I love finding gems like this where there aren't hoards of tourists. We went on a Sunday afternoon and at times were the only people in a corridor.
Definitely take time to check out entire palace walk. There is amazing architecture and pieces at every corner.

The place itself is very impressive and huge.
However when we where there we could not enter it.
The park behind it, however, is really beautiful. The paths and flower patches are incredibly well maintained.
Depending on what you are looking for you can either sit with many other people in a nice picnic/playground place or you can walk the paths through dense forest like areas with birds singing and running water.
I highly recommend this place.

Beautiful palace, very good value for money. We used self tours, as we were staying nearby on holiday, and were not sure how to access guided tours. As booking on site seemed to be self toured. I took a star off for this, as I would have liked a guide tour to learn more about the palace history. But the palace itself is still magnificent

A gorgeous Portuguese palace, lots to see, the grandeur of the place is simply stunning.
The library is simple stunning and contains one of the largest and most significant enlightenment collections in all of Europe. And the library room is beautiful.
The are also lists of rooms you can visit depicting what life may have been like for former kings, priests and there guests. There are priceless artefacts throughout the guided route with occasional information boards.

This is such a beautiful building with incredible grandeur. There is an amazing level of detail in everything, and signs explain the rich history in Portuguese and English. To get a complete experience I would recommend a guided tour, though there is still a great opportunity in wandering around and seeing parts without context. There are discounts for many different categories, but entry is also quite cheap.

Stunning! The 40,000 sqm Palace, the Basilica and it's 6 Organs, the National Library with it's collection of over 30,000 volumes, the Royal Franciscan Convent, the Gardens, and the Baroque architecture. Plan to spend time in the library and observe some of the preserved collections. If you can schedule during a time when the 6 pipe organs are played, or when the 98 bells are rung from the twin towers.

This palace is really huge, would take around 2 hours to visit all rooms inside. The church in the middle ia the biggest wr have seen in Portugal. Must visit place

This is well worth a visit!! Only €6 entry and you get to see so much including an incredible library. Very impressive
Lauren Cromarty — Google review
There are no guided tours and you cannot buy tickets in advance. The explainations are poor, skip a lot of details and leave visitors in the dark. The explainations are only in English and Portuguese, and they often vary with different information. Some of restorations of the objects are poor, and the people at the place look at you sideways if you're discussing what's in it or if you explain it. Props to the lady who talks to us and explained the King's toliet of her own accord.
Nonetheless it's a pretty place, but I really do recommend you get a guide, private or even just a local friend who knows History. It's a lot better with context. I wasn't even offered an audio guide.

The palace exhibition is interesting and for 8€ is definitely worth it, especially the library, the basilica is free of charge, don't miss it.
There is also a gallery that doesn't require a fee and one can enter a tiny garden from the same level.

For some reason it normally goes somewhat underrated which is most surprising given the sheer grandeur and richness of the whole complex, palace and basilique. Just to start with it is the biggest religious building in the world (yes, much larger than Spain's Escorial!). Then it has everything and everything in the superlative: biggest tower bells in the world, with 96 bells that sometimes play in concert; and six giant organs in the basilique, sometimes playing in concert music that is specifically written for six organs, which is very unique. The library is also huge and magnificent, as well as just about everything else in the palace, which houses a good art collection, specially in what concerns furniture.
The immense, gothic-style Quinta da Regaleira is home to an underground passage system that features a well designed to initiate visitors into the secrets of the Masons. The exterior of the estate is quite stately, but it's really in the villa park that one will be properly enchanted by its grottos and terraces.
Lovely estate in the hills outside Sintra. Fascinating that it is more recently constructed than I assumed or than it looks (late 1800s). There are small out-buildings scattered about, giving interest to the complex of paths and scenic points.
The Initiation Well was amazing but hard to enjoy due to the crowds. And it's not even high season yet!
There's a very nice outdoor cafe there with good food, too!

A magical spot, well worth the visit.
Steeped in history, this beautiful spot is a must visit while touring around Sintra. There are lots of castles around Sintra and you won’t have time to visit them all. Be sure you see this spot - you will not be disappointed. Go early, as the crowds build throughout the day.
🌟 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Beautiful castle. I'd highly recommend going inside and taking in the view from the balconies. You can see the rest of the palace grounds as well as the city from up on the terraces. Of course, there's a short wait to get in and the exterior may be the most impressive part, but if you have the time, I still think it's worth it to go inside and admire the architecture up close. The interior is lovely as well.

We really enjoyed the park, lots of beautiful sights and hidden paths. We skipped the well as the line was way too long (not sure if it's worth waiting an hour to see it). The palace itself was really nice too, but I think the park alone is worth the visit.

This was a fantastic place to visit. We got here after we finished our visit to the Pena Palace. The line was short and we purchase our tickets at the ticket office. Be prepared to spend a good 2 hours here minimum as there is a lot to see. There's some beautiful houses that you can visit, a giant well, a cave that leads to some beautiful fountain, and kinds of beautiful plants for all you plant enthusiasts. If you're near the Town center this is a short walk but it is a bit uphill. I would recommend this as a must see if you're in the area.

Our favourite place in Sintra (we also went to the Moorish Castle and Pena palace). Easy to get to and can spend hours there, such a beautiful space to explore, with a spooky (in a fun way) history. Felt a bit magical / fairytale-like with all the winding towers and hidden wells and caves. There is also a cafe and toilets (these weren't the nicest but did the job).

The most amazing castle I have ever seen. The stuff is helpful and the prices were low. I paid 11€ for exploring the whole garden, the cave, church, castle and the famous steps. The whole building was breathtaking. It is a great program for a whole afternoon.

What a stunning place! This is one of the most unique places I have ever seen. The initial well is an experience and the palace is gorgeous. My only complaint is that going during the summer (late august) is not only hot, but insanely crowded, so be prepared to wait.

Breathtaking scenery!
The size of this estate is surprising with so many trails and attractions to go through and, as I didn't research in advance, didn't have time to explore all of them. This is definitely an activity for the entire afternoon.
The staircase, or the "initiation well", is the most popular attraction, with the wait time of around 20 minutes to enter. Its starting point is at the top, and descends into a cave-like tunnel with three pathways to other viewpoints of the estate. While it is the most popular one, it personally wasn't that much more amazing than the rest, as the natural beauty blends in perfectly with the architecture with such detail and composition of the whole in mind.
I would say it's great value for money; it's a bit of a walk from the old centre of Sintra, although there is a bus you could take to get there.

The palace is truly magical and enchanting. There was a little drizzle, but not too bad. We had to stay in line for about 15 minutes to get to the Initiation well, but it was worth it. The caverns where one comes out from the well are very pretty and unique.
There are many places to walk around holding hands and stealing kisses.
The Castle itself is beautiful, although fairly small. It takes about 10 minutes to walk through.
The grounds provide plenty of opportunities for photos, even on an overcast day.

Absolutely worth visiting! An "easy, but hilly" 10 minute walk from the National Palace. The grounds are beautiful with cobblestone paths and some steep stairs. Many of the paths do not have hand rails and may be challenging if you have mobility issues. We were here the beginning of December and the site was not crowded at all, no wait.

Worth the drive from the city. It was a rainy day however i would say it just made the visit that much more magical. Yes there long cues for the more popular attractions within the site.. but the natural beauty does take your breath away. Ornate buildings.. interesting cave passages… tropical gardens, you feel like you have stepped back in history. The town of Sintra itself is quite charming as well !

Quinta da Regaleira is an interesting place to explore. The well, in particular, is unique with its design. The feeling is hard to describe as you descend into the well. The caves are also nice to explore, but the grounds have been fully restored and lost their original charm. The whole estate is huge, so be prepared to do a lot of walking. Some parts have been restored completely and lost their original look and charm. The palace is filled with intricate designs that are worth admiring. The chapel may be small inside, but its exterior design is quite beautiful. Overall, Quinta da Regaleira offers something different.

Visited in early May on a weekday in the early evening. Not many people so it was very pleasant and peaceful. Beautiful grounds and feels quite old and magical.
I enjoyed seeing the many different little interesting structures around the grounds and wondering what sparked some of this eccentricity. I actually preferred this to the Pena Palace. Would definitely recommend a visit if you have the time.

What a magical place. Center of gracious architecture, full of symbolism about the free masons and the glory of roman Christians.
Beautiful building from outside and inside it is a must see.
You can easily get lost in its gardens.
We highly recommend.

Oh man! This place it’s insanely beautiful!
This garden is my favourite place from Sintra. You walk through the garden to enjoy the plants and the different construction elements (house, balcony, rampart, etc). The best element is hidden: you need to find the entrance of the inverted tower. This monument is so magnificent, it inspired some movies decors. I fully recommend this visit!!

Very nice place, recommended to buy your tickets in advance (high season). There's a huge line to see the staircase (40 min + of waiting). Go early and take your time there, you also have other castles near to visit so you can use the morning for one and then see another in the afternoon.

This was probably my favorite place to visit in Sintra and I wish I had spent more time here. The grounds are just really pretty and nice to wander around. It’s also massive and the maps don’t make it very easy to navigate but it’s still very pretty. The initiation well is quite unnecessary in my opinion. You have to wait in line maybe 20-30 minutes just to walk down into the well and have a million people in your pictures. But other than that it’s a nice park and you can get some really cute photos

Allow a good half day here to explore and relax, it is like a cool lush botanic gardens with some fantastic scenery as well! Make your way to the inverted tower and enjoy some of the other towers for those perfect photos. Plenty of shade spots to sit and cool down on hot days. Tickets can be bought online in advance

For only 10 or so euros it feels like you could explore this place for several hours. There are endless little nooks for explore especially outdoors if you like plants, caves, architecture and good views. Highly recommend the well of imitation. Spooky! It’s about a 25 min walk from the Sintra station. 45 degree angle the whole way 😂

Beautiful complex with lots of awesome stuff to explore. You really get lost in the aura of enrapturing history and, even in the rainy, overcast weather, it's a beautiful fusion of nature and construction that has stood the test of time. The building is slightly closed-off and more impressive on the outside than inside, however it's mainly about the grounds surrounding it and the initiation well that's such a great time. Additionally, I was surprised by the many creepy, macabre caves that prodded my imagination after seeing the well.

Beautiful gardens tow wander round.. Didn't actually visit the castle.
The footpaths around the area are beaut. You can wander off and get away from others!
Fairly cheap to enter. Didn't have to queue much!
Lots of beautiful plants and flowers. Lots of little birds!
Walked to here from the train station in about half an hour.

Lovely gardens and an old house. The gardens include waterfalls, caves/tunnels and ornate follies. The old house was less impressive but still good to see. Well worth a visit.
Mark Broady — Google review
We visited here end of February, on a week day, around 3pm. Didn’t run into any lines and bought tickets at the front gate - approx. 13€ per ticket.
Probably need to pre purchase tickets in busy season but the park is a nice size so you don’t run into too many people. A few of the smaller lookouts and the tunnels/well do have lines due to small stair cases, but all moved pretty fast.
The well is cool but when you file down in a line of people, definitely takes away from the experience. If you’re claustrophobic I could see it being challenging also.
The grounds (very well kept) and the palace were more amazing personally! Either way, it’s worth seeing and learning about.
There’s a cafeteria on site and washrooms as well and I recommend walking up to the front gate. It’s a bit chaotic driving through or trying to get a ride right to the front gate.

It is the most unique place I've been to. Eerie, tranquil, quaint with a touch of green wetlands. The idea behind it, the serenity of experiencing it and the vibe of the place blending in with the natural rocks of the earth.
It will leave you wanting more. I just wanted to soak the place in.
Pro tip: get the audio guide, trust me.
Bacalhôa Buddha Eden is an impressive sculpture park located on the grounds of a winery in rural Obidos, Portugal. The park features stunning Asian-inspired gardens with pagodas, lakes, and terracotta soldiers. One of the highlights is a giant Buddha statue that dominates the landscape. The park was created by art collector Jose Berardo as a response to the Taliban's destruction of cultural heritage in Afghanistan.
Beautiful place... Pet friendly and really really big. There's a lot to see and walk inside. Also, if you want to taste a delicious local wine it's possible. In resume, I'd visit it again. If you are looking for a place to have a good time with family/friends/couple, this is it.

Wow! Didn’t expect much, even with reading the reviews and looking at the photos… but WOW, again. You have to visit this lovely place to fully appreciate how wonderful it is. You can easily spend a full day here enjoying the beautiful landscape and amazing world class art installations. What an incredible find! Would love to visit again in the spring or summer with everything in bloom.

It has many, many great sculptures in both stone and metal art forms. We really enjoyed it and will return again. My only complaint is that there is a bit of a mixture of cultures as at the entry area there is a Roman influence and then there is a large area devoted to Africa and then the Buddha area but it's only described as the Buddha Eden gardens. I think the Roman statue area should be removed and the garden divided by vegetation into the African area and the Buddha area as that would make sense. I would like to see more foliage in the Buddha area with corner to allow meditation with trickling streams and seating. At present, the Buddha area is in a vast open expanse of land which doesn't seem appropriate to me. Overall a good place to visit and take a multitude of photos of the amazing sculptures.

U could grab a train as well for an additional 6-8 euors(I don’t remember) but I walked it with no issues. A must if u are close by to the region.

It’s a place to visit and enjoy. Beautiful gardens, arts. Tou can choose to walk or use the train to visit the interior of the park. They have a small restaurant there with not fancy but good food and a “bar”, for some snacks. Some areas are not accessible with wheelchair, and even the train is not accessible, which is sad. But is definitely a beautiful place and I recommend the visit.

A really special gorgeous, place. As a South African I just loved the incorporation of the stone art in the maze as well as the mass display of metal art, and the colossal Buddha's were magnificent. The garden itself is very well thought out and planned with a clever mix of local and imported plants that are low maintenance. Great place.

The Buddha Eden gardens have to be some of the most peculiar places that I have ever seen. The gardens are huge, and they set the stage for a gigantic open-air art exhibition, with sculptures crafted by some well-known artists. And that for an entrance fee of only five euro. For an additional price, you can ride aboard a touristic train over the garden's streets. At the exit there is a souvenir store with a wide variety of affordable, local wine. I visited the gardens for only three hours, but I could have easily spent a whole weekend there.

Stunning.
Totally recommend visiting if you're I'm the area. If you visit in the summer months, make sure you get a ticket that includes a train ride as walking all of that in the heat would be dreadful.
It can be expensive €12 entry + €12 for the train per person, but it's worth it, and I imagine they also spend a lot on maintaining the park - it was clean and in pristine condition.
We walked through various areas and very much enjoyed it all, including the African section. We also stopped for an ice cream for the kiddos and sangria for the ladies ;) - they were the size of a fish bowl.

That incredible place that everyone should visit in Portugal. Easy to find, there is no preparation and you need to pay the entrance fee – not expensive. You can choose to walk or use the train. I recommend using it because the place is huge and you can stop in specific places, walk a little, take photos and catch the train again to move on. On the way out, you pass by a convenience store and can buy wines at a great cost. Have a good trip!

A surprisingly large and beautiful garden with an Asian atmosphere, where you can enjoy a peaceful walk for a few hours. Only 10 minutes drive from Obidós. Lots of Buddhist but also Chinese statues (this mix is a bit confusing). Somewhere in the back of the garden we found many peacocks, locked in cages that were too small. Why are they locked up and not walking around freely? Very sad, not animal friendly and against the Buddhist way of thinking/living and the peaceful appearance of this garden. Hopefully this will change! And 1 more tip: serving in the café real, fresh coffee instead of the one from the machine, would make a big difference ;-). For the rest: worth a visit!

So worth the slog up the hill. Be warned! From entry gate (and the initial queue), it's around 30mins walk up to the Palace entry Q. They are very strict with entry time slot. The Palace, it's gardens and the little lakes are a wonderful , restful outing. Use bug spray for the gardens and take a stroller for youngsters. The view is awesome from the parapets, well organized queues. Has a small cafeteria with lively outdoor seating. Choose an early slot or much later in the day. Midday is chaos. Don't choose a Monday- Lisbon has many closed sightseeing spots and tourists flood to Sintra. You can walk the gardens and exit at the lakes. No need to return to the main entrance. We walked from here a short distance to the Moorish Castle.

Beautiful Palace. If you plan on visiting, earlier is definitely better. The walk through the palace is guided and takes you through rooms one by one. It is easy to get stuck behind one of the tours while they discuss a room, the later you go, the heavier the traffic.
While there, the places is majestic and beautiful. The views are spectacular, and the freedom you can walk the walls with at the completion of the tour is staggering. This venue is a must visit!

Better take tickets online. The palace is beautiful but crowded as you can expect from a monument like this. However, the park is STUNNING. We loved to idle there and look at the beautiful scenery. The palace can be done in an hour, but take the time to enjoy the park. It truly is stunning

What a beautiful place. Lines are very large so tickets should be bought in advance and you can only enter at the designated time.
If you want you can visit the exterior part only, but you won’t get to see all areas.
The restaurant in the basement serves great food and was a good option for lunch after a few hours on the lines and touring the castle.

Amazing Palace! The view from there is also incredible! The price was 14€ per ticket per adult ( November 2023 ) For the Palace of Pena only.

As the next part of our tour, the Pena Palace, should also not be missed. The story of it creation is fascinating. The fact that the materials to build it had to be hauled up some of the steepest and most windy roads I have travelled makes it even more impressive. Luckily for us, it turned out to be one of the best weather days the guides could remember, so the views were stunning.

Way overcrowded and difficult to get to. Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful, but the logistics of getting there are a pain, and once you’re there, you’re packed in with thousands of other people, making it difficult to enjoy. Especially considering the price you pay to get in.
It would be nice if they had two ticket options: one for touring only the grounds and another for going inside. Walking around the terrace and exterior was the best part for us. The interior is similar to any other castle or palace in Europe from around that time period.
As for getting there, we parked at one of the train stations at the bottom of the hill. While eating lunch, we asked the server the best way to get to the palace and were told to take the city bus. When we got to the bus stop, there was a giant line of people in the queue. We priced out a Bolt and saw that it was only 1€ more than the bus for our family of six, so we went with that option. At the top, someone scanned our tickets to let us into the grounds (our tickets were scanned three more times before we actually made it inside the palace). By the time we were done, it was nearly closing time, and taxis lined up outside were eager to get any business since they were heading downhill anyway, so we were able to get a taxi down for the same price using Bolt.
The terrace and walkway around the exterior were truly the best part of our experience there. Maybe one day there will be a cable car or something like that to make it easier to visit.

The palace is located in the mountains and it's location is absolutely amazing. We came during an overcast day so we weren't able to see the surrounding location very well, but it was still worth it. Buy your tickets in advance and get a time slot for early in the day. It is a fantastic experience climbing up the road and then going through all the parts of the Palace. Give yourselves lots of time because you can easily make a day of it. We had a great time and our entire day was amazing.

Magical! One of the favorite places we visited. Go early! It gets really crowded later in the day. Buy your tickets in advance, as they are timed. After going through the palace (looks more like a castle), wander around the walkways that go around the building for some spectacular views.

Stunning place, get there early for opening so you can see the grounds without so many around. The inside of the palace is interesting but I wouldn’t felt like I missed out if I didn’t go inside. The audio that you can purchase with the facility did not work well and the app kept closing so I wouldn’t recommend this. Many people around us went on a tour and this may be better if you are looking for the information.

Amazing! One of the best sights I've ever seen in my life. It was rainy and foggy, which made the whole experience even more unique, although we couldn't see clearly, but still, the castle was amazing. Make sure you book your visit early in the morning. The mini bus that takes you from the entrance to the palaces is very crowded, but just go with it, it's totally worth it.

Bey nice palace. And very nice park. If you want to go into the palace. Plan ahead and be prepared for long lines. Or go early. Around 10 am there was no line at the entrance. But in the afternoon it gets really crazy. So in the summer it require more time. Also recommend to go see the ponds / lakes. It has a very relaxing atmosphere. The go trough the park it takes a couple of hours, but it’s really worth it. And it has some stiff walking up and down the hills. So have some walking shoes on.

This was a beautiful visit to an amazing piece of history. I took my family of six, and was glad I had an infant due to the lines of people. We arrived at 11, and would have waited at least 1.5 hours to get in, but thankfully they prioritize people with infants and moved us to the front of the line. This was both for the bus up, and line to get in, and pretty much anything else. VERY family friendly. It doesn’t take long to explore unless you include the gardens, which I recommend.

was great, I'd recommend you book tickets for 10:30 as it's not too hot and it's not when there are too many tourists about. check the weather forecast, as sometimes when it rains there is fog and it spoils the veiws (although the fog can be quite cinematic). bring a camera as there are many lovely things such as intricately done tiling and the grand architecture of the place.

Unless you’re interested in learning about the family that lived there and seeing all their rooms and old furniture, the inside isn’t super necessary to go in in my opinion. I made a 1:30 reservation and still had to wait in the heat for probably an hour, and then you walk through the palace in a single file line just snapping pictures of things quickly and not even really getting to read about or appreciate anything. Not great. You can just go up and walk around the grounds for free if you don’t feel the need to go inside. I wouldn’t recommend coming here honestly.

I recently visited the Pena Palace in November and I was pleasantly surprised. Despite it being a very popular destination, the atmosphere was not too overwhelming and there were many areas where I could find some peace and quiet. The view from the palace was stunning; the surrounding landscape and architecture were breathtaking. The wind was cold and chilly, but it didn’t take away from the beauty of the place. I would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a place to escape to for a while.

Beautiful palace, but very poorly managed. IMHO, here is no need to get a ticket to see the interior, because the most picturesque part of this castle is the colorful exterior. If you do get a ticket, be sure to go at the time of your scheduled entry. If you miss it, they WILL NOT let you in no matter what happened. Finally, if you do get in, don't be rushed through by the crowd. The staff and the rest of the crowd will try to herd you and push you through the predefined path as fast as possible. And before you know it, you are already out. And guess what? No matter what happens, they WILL NOT let you go back in. It's very frustrating, and frankly quite stressful. You end up wasting a lot of time waiting to get in, only to be herded out as fast as they can. I'm sorry to say that I did not enjoy visiting this castle

We booked palace tickets one day in advance.
Uber from Sintra station was cheaper than taking the bus 434/435 for the two in our group.
The restroom before the palace entrance in the gift shop were clean. There was another restroom inside the palace complex.
We reached at 950 am for our 1030 am booking. We walked to the palace from the main entrance where the time is not checked.. We were early and so took pictures when crowds were not so large. Terrace near the queue is location to take pictures
Palace visit took about 40 minutes when we moved leisurely.
The cafe had a very long queue. :(
We hiked to the Holy Cross and Warrior statue. It was worth spending extra 45 minutes if you have time. (And this is on route to exit).
We then exited from lakes entrance to walk further to the Moor castle.

After a long walk on a misty morning, we stumbled upon this gem. The experience was truly remarkable, as the atmosphere, beauty, and surrounding nature combined to create one of the most inviting environments to explore. The history of the place told a captivating story that added to the overall charm.

Best views of Sintra. Buy tickets online as entrance is time specific otherwise you’ll wait online to buy tickets and then to enter. Also recommend buying the round trip bus ride from the entrance of the park to the actual castle unless hiking is your thing. We took the bus to the castle and walk on the return to see the rest of the park. You can also walk to castelo dos mouros from here. Go with time it can take a good 20-30 minutes to get to the entrance of park from town and another 15 minutes on the bus from entrance of park to castle.

Amazing experience. You don't have to visit the inside of the palace, only the terrace and walking along the perimeter on the upper surface is enough to give you the full experience. There is also a small chapel not to be missed, it's absolutely beautiful inside with painted glass and marble sculptures. Excellent Vista views of Sintra and the entire city!

This place is absolutely incredible and stunningly beautiful. One of my favorite places ever. I especially love hiking there to immerse myself in the breathtaking natural beauty; it's absolutely perfect.
The Alcobaça Monastery is a Cistercian monastery that dates back to the 12th century and is located in the town of Alcobaca. The monastery, which includes its own church, cloisters, and a tiled kitchen, dominates the town with its imposing baroque facade.
Really amazing place. The architecture is stunning and very well preserved. Cost us 3€ each (65+) and took around 1 hour to see the entire structure.

Imposing structure, very well maintained. Gorgeous views from the lookouts. Lots of photo opportunities. Beautifully carved cloisters.
Surrounded by coffee shops with terraced tables with a view of the ornate exterior of the church.
The historic downtown is also lovely to walk through.

Imposing building, both in its richly decorated exterior as well as the impresive interior, with its towering pillars and ceiling, well preserved tombs and sanctuaries, statue niches and secondary holies. Cherish and absorb the tranquillity and silence of the main hall and side corridors, even at the peak of visiting hours.

Go out of tourist season! When we did it was reasonably quiet, it's a massive place, full of beautiful items, half a day minimum to see it well. There are no toilet facilities after the barrier, the only place is in the entry area. There's no food or drink areas, there are no places to sit apart from the occasional chair used by the staff. If you are older this makes the visit really quite a trial but it's worth it.

Really spectacular place to visit!!
Full of history and really amazing architecture, established in 1153 and a UNESCO World heritage site, you really can't skip this one.
Entry to the church itself is free of charge and you can see the tombs of Inês de Castro and King Pedro I. Make sure to read up on their love story before visiting the site for more context.
The Monastery has paid entry but so worth it!! You can buy tickets online or in person.
If going with little ones, notice the family price for a better deal.
Washroom located inside, but no lockers.

Cheap ticket prices and amazing view from the outside. Once inside, only the architecture may keep you interested. Otherwise not much history to read or view.

If you want to see a spectacular monastery without crowds this one is for you. There aren't many signs for absorbing history but you can read about the place on your phone. Other than that just enjoy the quiet peace and amazing architecture. I love finding places where not many tourists go and this place was definitely a gem.
You need to pay hourly parking but plenty a few steps from the chapel.

World heritage site worth visiting because of its beautifully preserved interiors and exterior. Get ready for Portuguese love story between a king Pedro and queen Ines.
There is a historical hotel adjecent to it, as well.

Amazing old monastery in the center of town. About 6 euros to enter and explore the whole site, or enter the church for free. Spend 1-1.5hours exploring. Lovely morning.

The Alcobaça Monastery or Alcobasa Monastery is a Catholic monastic complex located in the town of Alcobaça. The monastery was established in 1153 by the first Portuguese king, Afonso Henriques. The church and monastery were the first Gothic buildings in Portugal but after the Great 1755 Lisbon earthquake some elements were damaged and the new ones, Baroque, were added.
Take into consideration, that Sacristia [the back part of the main church] can be visited just during the specific hours and is additionally paid [+2 EUR].

Claustro de D. Dinis is open.

This was not my first time visiting and won’t be my last. It was the first time after learning about the tragic love story of Pedro and Ines. I love history and the Mosteiro de Alcobaça did not disappoint. I didn’t visit the entire monastery this time, will need to come back again soon. Came back a few days later to enjoy a concert right outside of the Mosteiro.

This is a beautiful Monastery located in the heart of Alcobaça. Entrance is €1 per adult and free for kids. Plan to spend a minimum of 2 hours to see the entire building and Cathedral. Worth going to the high floor to admire the beautiful gardens. Be sure to stop by the Kings Quarter where you'll see azulejos that recount historical events and sculptures. In the Cathedral, free entrance, it is worth visiting the tombs of Pedro and Ines.

Beautiful location.
You don’t have to pay to enter the church, just the museum that’s €6/person according to the website.
It’s well worth the visit.

Speechless. Have been to many monasteries and churches all over the world but this one is special. The sheer size, how it has been preserved, the massive church took our breath away. Wonderful museum store as well. And what was surprising was that there weren’t many tourists flooding the place. All very dignified and an experience not to be missed while in Portugal.

Very cool. One of the largest cathedrals I’ve seen and the monastery is beautiful. The photos say it all. Idk why they keep the plaza outside a dusty dirt ball though

It was very beautiful outside and wasn't crowded inside, so it was a pleasant visit. However half of the monastery belongs to the hotel and is not accessible to visitors. The garden with number 17 on the map.

First of the “holy trinity” around Fátima (the “ABC”). Has the benefit of not being too busy when we were there. A beautiful place with a decent amount of history available. The tour path is well designed (one of the most efficient we’ve encountered on our trip, just keep turning left). There’s a document guide you can download via Google drive (but it did not work for me).
Paid onsite parking is available and there’s a ton of food options across the street. So glad we were able to visit.

Great place to stop on route from Lisbon to Porto and we'll worth the small entrance fee for the monastery, the interior is massive, never seen anything like it before

The sheer scale of the monastery makes it worth a visit, as well as visiting the attached church.
Whilst there is a small charge to visit the monastery itself, the Church, which has a separate entrance, is free.
Certainly worth the diversion on our drive from Lisbon to Porto
The dramatic cliffs of Cascais are defined by the pounding waves at their base, which has created a natural archway and open cave. This spot is known as Boca do Inferno because of the impressive displays of waves during high tide.
Guarded by countless laughing seagulls, the „Mouth Of Hell“ is one of the most beautiful landmarks near Lisbon.
Completely designed by nature with its infallible hand, the area is presenting itself with a rough charm which is created when the sea and the wind as bride and groom come together to meet their best man, the rocks of a coast line. Over millions of years the natural forces created the shapes one can see today.
The waves keeping on coming restless and powerful, pressing through the mouth into the basin you’re looking into when standing on the edge of the cliff.
When you get lucky, the weather will be just fine. With a deeply blue sky of a color you will find nowhere else around the world. And bright sunshine, which lets the foaming water look like dusted with countless little gems.
Look and take in this endlessness of the ocean. Breathe deeply and get a sense of what it is like to inhale the sunlight. Then close your eyes. And just listen: what the flooding and ebbing waves got to tell you. Whatever it may be, the seagulls will keep on laughing. At all of it.

Beautiful place to visit. Nature was very generous to build something like this.
It's easy to access the rocks, has stairs to help the walk to where you can take some good pictures and sit to enjoy the sunset.
And you can walk just a couple of minutes and find interesting restaurants. The parking is public in the street, it's paid but very accessible.

It was amazing, a magic place. You can arrive by train to Cascais and then walk along the coast until this place. It is free and there are some souvenir shops around. There is a part that looks like a dragon head and makes a breath sound when the waves hit. It is so cool!

The Inferno's Mouth is well dubbed. Around sunset, what looks like a few jagged rocks with mild waves, starts swelling and rising and crashing, pushing into the tunnel that has been created after thousands of years of erosion. The energy that the ocean has is palpable and minute by minute it gets more and more aggressive. It is awesome, in the purest form of the words definition. There are plenty of safe places for people to stand to watch this incredible performance. A distance away there is a peninsula with a pier that starts signaling its light -- posing some incredible scenes for picture-taking. Although it was the end of June, the place was not packed and it was easy to walk around to find scenic photogenic angles. There is no cost associated with attending this fine show and plenty of places to park. It is also surrounded by multiple restaurants and is a skip and a hop to Cascais. Beware of those selling souvenirs - they are bad quality and four times more expansive than in other places. If you're in the area, I definitely encourage you to visit Lucifer's jagged mouth. Also, if you look closely at my pictures, you will see a dragon (or is it just me) herding the waves into the mouth!

Very cool place, we came back here a couple of years ago, and I also came here when I was about 1 or 2 years old. You can get very close to the water (be cautious) and see the waves hit the rocks. In the wintertime, it's even more crazier, I even think they close it off due to how dangerous it can be. None of the less area is cool and nice to visit.

Boca do Inferno which means Hells Mouth is Beautiful spot along the coast, offering panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the scenic cliffs, and the caves formed by the waves breaking into it. I'd recommend it if you're visiting Lisbon. This place falls in the Cascais city.

Belém Tower is a 16th century fortified tower located on the tiny river island of Belém. It is one of Lisbon's most emblematic historical monuments and is a symbol of Portugal's Age of Discovery. The facade is adorned with fanciful maritime motifs all twisted rope and armillary spheres carved out of stone.
Breathtaking place. Definitely worth to visit. I was impressed to see the castle in the water, and this small beach where you can take a photo in front of the castle. Might be too crowded.
Also, there is a nice park nearby, and many other sightseeing are very close

It’s nice to visit, but the waiting time to enter with online tickets is ~ 1 hour. It’s nice that the amount of people inside the monument is regulated, so it’s not crowded at all, but it would be nicer if the tickets are sold for a particular time point. It would be much easier for everyone. The place is also very windy and no shadow, it is better to take a jacket and a hat to protect yourself from wind and sun.

This little castle, as I call it, is really cool and worth the visit. My first visit was during the week, there was no line but when I return on the weekend a year later they stopped selling tickets after lunch due to the demand to enter. The line was huge.
Tickets are sold from a both (small building) in the garden, about 100m away.

The Belem Tower is fascinating, with its beautiful exterior complemented by the sea and waves in the background. However, the fairly long queue to enter, combined with the windy and drizzling day, made the experience a bit challenging. Inside, I saw the smallest and cutest cannons I've ever seen. The terrace on the upper floor also offered a pretty decent view. Whether it's worth waiting in line and paying to enter is entirely up to you. If I were to revisit, I'd likely opt to spend more time admiring the exterior and taking more photos.

I had an amazing visit to belem Tower for only 4€ ad I am considered youth.
The walk up the old spiral stone staircase was pretty easy and the steps are bigger than other towers. They don't explain much of the history however there are placards on each floor explaining what each floor/room was used for. On the second floor you can go to the balcony and see the view although time is limited. The view from the main terrace and little windows in all directions is very enjoyable. The ground floor with all the historic canons and original windows is a piece of history in understanding the protection they had to use.
I would recommend visiting if you have time.

It's nice to see the place where the sailors were entering and leaving the country on their way to explore/colonize the world. Around the tower are nice views so it's worth planning a stop in this part of the town. There are also street sellers of raincoats and umbrellas for a chance of rain. They are overpriced but if you don't have another option then you will grab it as well🤷♂️
Thank you🤩

This is an interesting historical structure, and looking around outside is free. To go inside, you need a ticket, which can either be purchased online ahead of time or on-site (curiously, the ticket booth is not at the entrance to the tower and you have to go to the other side of the beach near the water closets).
On a weekday around noon, the wait is a good hour long. Personally, I wouldn't wait that long, even if it was free, but my kids both really wanted to go in, so we waited. There is no shade at all for the line, but nearby there are a few trees, so I stayed in line while the kids waited in the shade. There are nearby snack stands where you can get the kids callipos, or other frozen treats, and that helped immensely for their wait.
Once inside, there is a further wait to get to the upper levels (no further payments required). As the stairs up are very narrow spiral stairs and the upper levels have limited capacity, there is a set time interval for a given group to move up to each successive level that is managed by staff.
The views are nice and there are a few short descriptions on how the various rooms were used.
This is a very popular tourist attraction that is popular among many websites as a top destination. Again, it's neat to see, and free from the outside. If you get there early, your wait will be much improved, in which case, it may be worth your time, but personally, I wouldn't recommend it unless you make it a priority and get there early enough to cut down on the wait.

It’s quite an interesting place, but I think there are more interesting sights to spend time on. I wouldn’t go there on purpose. I was also told that you could go inside, but there isn’t much inside to see. So, I didn’t even spend time on that. There are many people around, walking the promenade, listening to street musicians, etc.

Waited in line for about 30min, not great, not bad either. Realized while on the queue, we were supposed to buy the tickets at the front office and not on the queue, managed to book the tickets online while on the queue which was amazing.
The tower from the outside is breathtaking specially when the sun is setting and you can snap some beautiful pictures.
Made our way inside, ground floor is pretty much empty, only a few cannons and portholes. First floor in the courtyard the architecture details is what made the tickets worth it. The amount of detail in every single block of the tower was so precise. Inside the tower itself it's pretty much empty, but it gives you an idea how it was built and all that.
Overall I recommend visiting Torre de Belem, just don't expect to see much "stuffing" inside the tower.
Johnny Sousa — Google review
This tower is more beautiful from the outside. Inside consists of one room in each floor with an excellent view of the water. This is not surprising as this was the intended purpose of the tower, a viewing platform. I definitely recommend a visit. Come early so as not to waste time waiting. As you have to climb a very narrow staircase, they control the traffic in each direction.. so if you come late, not only do you have to wait to get into the Tower, but you have to wait in queues inside going up the stairs.
The all-electric tram 28 travels around Lisbon, offering stunning views of the city and its landmarks. The ride is a nostalgic experience, with a polished wood interior and chrome fittings.

To popular for its own good. It's nice to ride along on a rattling old tram through the narrow streets. But unless you really want to ride it until the end and the cemetery, then save yourself the hassle and the incredible queues. Get the Number 12. It does practically the same route through the old town and the narrow streets. Nowhere near as popular because you've all been told get #28. Almost guaranteed a seat and just as good a ride.

Very rude operaters. Expected to have exact change and, while the ride was stopped due to a broken down vehicle and asked to continue with another tram (with the same ticket), we were kicked out because we wanted to use the same ticket as instructed. Operator refused to check. Disappointing experience.

Tram 28 Lisbon is a great way to see some of Lisbon’s famous sites and access the medieval district of Alfama.
Tram 28 passes through the popular tourist districts of Graca, Alfama, Baixa & Estrela and riding the Lisbon Tram is a unique way to experience this wonderful city. The trams don’t just fill the Lisbon streets but also the air, as they screech and ding their way through the city. The Lisbon Trams date back to the 1930’s and are wonderfully preserved with wooden floors, timber window frames and yellow bodies.
In peak season Tram 28 is very busy and fills up quite quickly so you can easily end up with standing room only. Try to take the Tram earlier in the morning so you can have a seat and get a feel for the city.
Tram 28 costs €3:50pp one way and a good place to hop on is Praça Luis de Camões. Please beware of pick pockets on Tram 28,. I always feel safe in Lisbon but as in any city you really do need to be vigilant on the Trams.

Well worth it. Avoid queues by starting your trip early. (08:00h) We walked back from the final destination to the center instead of taking the tram again. Don't let yourself be put off by all the negative comments.

WAY OVERRATED TOURIST TRAP! We waited for over an hour for this ride. It's luck of the draw in regards to your seats whenever the tram does arrive. If you are an unlucky and have to stand the entire ride then you really can't see much. Be aware that this tram also serves locals who ride it to get from point to point. On our particular ride we were all kicked off the tram barely a few stops into the route with no explanation of why we had to exit. So your options were to pay more money for either a taxi or hire another site seeing service like the Tut Tut , or wait for another tram that was definitely going to be crowded. If I could give less than a star I would have. Save your money and time and avoid this non customer service based trap.

Horrible experience today. We waited in line for 2 hours, only to have 2 rude locals cut in front of us, then after boarding we're told it's only a 10 minute ride rather than the usual 30+ (due to some stupid Catholic holiday). No signs. No advance warning. It's just a tram... observe from the street and maintain your sanity.

I'll never travel to Evora without this trip planner again
Praça do Comércio is the most impressive plaza in Lisbon and its centre for trade. It has a panoramic view from the top of the Arco da Rua Augusta, which is one of the busiest shopping streets in Lisbon. The Elevador de Santa Justa, a neo-Gothic styled wrought iron elevator, is also worth visiting.
The Castelo de Sao Jorge is a hilltop Moorish castle and royal residence with palace ruins and archaeological museum situated in Alfama, Lisbon.
The castle was a great experience because you get a mixture of things there. You get a cool garden of peacocks, which is always very cool. There are also great views of the city from the tower and walls. There are also exhibits in a small museum inside the castle for history buffs.
There wasn't much in the way of litter. A reminder that you will be to be physically able as there are quite a few steps to get around the caste walls.

Very well preserved castle and keep. The trek to the castle is a bit, but if you walked through Lisbon for a couple of days, it won't seem bad. You can easily buy tickets online and save the time (quite the queue when we were) by going straight to the turnstiles. The views of Lisbon are magnificent and you get refreshments on site. There are toilets on site and a souvenir shop. A museum and an archaeological site to cover the historic preservation of the site. All in all great couple of hours spent.
Gabriel Radulescu — Google review
If you like exploring castles, then although most of the castle is in ruins, nonetheless there is enough remaining to climb and investigate. Not for the physically impaired as the castle steps are often quite narrow and somewhat precarious, and younger children may need to be supervised in places. However, it is great to be left free to ramble over a whole castle and imagine how it would have been in the past, defending the ramparts. We downloaded the audio which was worth the additional cost if you want to learn about the history.

Buy your tickets online and avoid the lineup! Then walk straight in! This is definitely a must see attraction when you come to Lisbon. You can get a bus or ride share to near the base but still involves walking, and the castle itself has some steep stairs and uneven ground. Some fantastic views of the city and harbour, great place to relax in the shade and read a book.
Russell King — Google review
Beautiful castle and worth the legwork to get up there. Price of admission wasn't too bad, especially when paying online and jumping past the line to get it. We enjoyed some fresh crepes and ginjinha in the classic chocolate shooter (SO good!). The peacocks were a nice surprise, and there were so many of them. The mating dance was so awesome to watch, and definitely made for some good pictures and video. Can't wait to come back.

Nice big castle where you can walk along the walls and get amazing views of the city. However there’s not much information or history to engage with except a few signs and a small museum with some pottery. There are also some peacocks wandering around.
Overall I still really enjoyed it and felt it was worth the 10 euro ticket price.

What an incredible place! I may be slightly biased as this was my first official castle I’ve ever visited, but it did not disappoint. Even the long, weaving roads to get up there were beautiful. Near the entrance there is a little place to get a light lunch as well as some ice cream for reference. Getting in the castle for us was much easier as we have an infant and you are a priority entry for the castle, so we got to the front for tickets and walked in. If you don’t bring a baby, get there early as the line can get really long. Inside, the courtyard is beautiful and shaded with plenty of sitting areas if you’d like to stay and chill. The views are incredible! The castle itself is fun to explore and walk around, with several peacocks just strolling around. They’ve been fed by humans so be careful as they’ll get very close to you to try and get food. They almost pecked my daughter, which to me was hilarious 😆 Make sure you also go to the inside museum portion as some of the rock architecture inside is very beautiful and a lot of it is informative. Great castle!
Jordan Guillory — Google review
A long steep walk, but great views.
Don’t think you will see an intact castle - this is ruins only.
Entry is €10 for an adult (€5 18-25)
My tip is to buy your ticket online to skip the ticket queue (will cost you an admin fee of 60c) but the line today in no shade was down the street and said to be about an hour.
With the online ticket, you show at the entrance and walk straight in.
Is it worth the €10? In my opinion, no. The €5 I would’ve been happier. Great views but not a lot of signage or information.
Tamika Green — Google review
Stunning. The views are incredibly beautiful, and the castle wasn't even crowded when we visited. It is so worth the price of admission, as Castelo de S. Jorge was possibly the highlight of our trip to Lisbon. We didn't buy tickets ahead of time like we probably should've, but the line to buy tickets on site wasn't bad at all (though I'd still recommend buying in advance). It is just so worth it for the view. From the castle, you can look down on the city in all directions; it's gorgeous, quiet, and peaceful. There are also a couple peacocks wandering the ground nearby; if you're lucky, you'll see one.
Maggie Kiara — Google review
For us the best touristic attraction in Lisboa!
Starting a bit pricey (10€ regular / 5€ students) the visit is alone for the view from the castle on Lisboa, from all different perspectives, definitely worth it. You can climb on the old castle walls and will enjoy the best views you probably can have on the city.
The volume of other visitors was ok and not too stressful. The waiting line went also quite fast compared to other attractions in other touristic cities.
Besides, the cultural information in the museum and the other smaller attractions inside didn’t play a huge role.
Thomas De — Google review
We loved visiting the castle, the views from the top are some of the best in Lisbon! Buy your ticket online ahead of time to skip the line and beat the crowd inside. The day we visited, there was a long line out of the gate to get in, but it includes the line to get tickets, so save the time by getting them ahead of your visit! Give yourself at least an hour (if not a couple) to go through here. We enjoyed time soaking in the views, walking around the castle, watching the many peacocks, and walking through the museum where they had many different relics found on the property with some history highlights. If you're afraid of heights, don't climb up the castle walls, but there is still plenty to see if you don't go up there. My mother and grandmother waited below while I walked around the castle walls. Overall, it was a great visit!

Beautiful views over Lisbon from the castle. The castle 🏰 itself has lot of Peacocks 🦚 which makes it more a charming place. The steps are a bit narrow so care should be taken while climbing up and down the towers

If you visit Lisbon, I definitely recommend visiting this castle. Although there is nothing really interesting in the castle, you can just walk around the walls. What is really beautiful about this place is the view of the city and a nice park with peacocks.
I recommend buying a ticket online and you don't have to stand in line
Lukáš Gába — Google review
This castle is worth visiting just for the views. The fort is remarkable and you can climb up to all the towers. Sunset is amazing from this vantage point. The exhibit is very educational and gives a good account of Portuguese history. Highly recommend.

You can spend quite a few hours in this beautiful castle ruin. Standing high above the city, you can enjoy a wonderful view in all directions, many of the city's landmarks can be viewed here from a bird's eye view. You can relax in the arbors, but there is also room to climb up and down, and the garden is well maintained. All in all, it's worth the price of admission.

Beautiful castle with many parts of the castle in good conditions. The outer wall and inner castle are mostly intact. The inner castle you can climb and walk around on top of it. The view from the castle is amazing because you look over the old city of Lisbon. The castle also has a museum of the archeological findings around the castle. Additionally, there is an archaeological site next to the castle. Overall, worth the visit. The entrance to the castle is 15 euro per person. There is also a place to buy drinks around the castle.
F. Nobels — Google review
My whole family loved this place. It's in the heart of Lisbon so it is easy to reach. The castle grounds are fairly large and there is plenty to explore. There are many peacocks wandering the area, which my kids loved. There was even a fenced off area where baby birds resided.
As for the castle itself, it was impressive. The views of Lisbon are fantastic, as the castle is at the top of one of the many hills in Lisbon. It is well maintained and there is also a small indoor exhibit if you care to read and learn some history. Included in the grounds is a small archeological site, though it is roped off and only accessible through guided tours throughout the day, which we did not do.
There is plenty of shade and places to sit in the grounds so bring some snacks if you need a break from climbing all the hills and stairs. Bathrooms are available and quite clean.
Kids 12 and under are free, and adults are 15 Euro. Purchase tickets (even for the kids so they can gain entry) ahead of time online if you know you're going so you can bypass the line. Otherwise, go early early so you don't have to wait in line too long.
My family spent most of the morning there, though you could easily keep your visit to 2 hours or less. Well worth the time and money for us.

There's 2 free elevators to go to this castle.
One look like an office building and the other one is inside a super market.
We went around noon time and bought the skip the line ticket 15 euro/person to skip the line.
The line is actually not as bad as Jerónimos Monastery, but because we had a reservation at a 2 stars Michelin restaurant "Alma" so we have to skip the line.
The castle is at the top of the mountain, so we get to have many great photos look down from above.
Very gorgeous castle, and I am so thankful for the 2 free elevators.

Amazing historic location. Nice little cafe in the area also. Views are stunning and the experience is great. There are a lot of stairs if that is an issue for you.

We rode the #28 tram and got off at the viewpoint. Then we walked up to the Castle. The views from there are spectacular. You can see all around the city. In the Castle you can climb up stairs and be able to look over the walls. There are no furnishings as it was built for defense. There's also a site outside the walls where ancient artifacts have been unearthed.
The area has beautiful peacocks that strut around. There is a museum with tiles and pottery from many ages that have been found and pieced together.
There is also a gift shop and restaurant. There is a fee to get into the grounds.
Linda Braudy — Google review
We climbed the steep “road” up to Castelo. It was worth the effort. It was a beautiful day. We skirted the waiting line and bought “walk in” tickets at the door for a few euros more. The walk down was definitely easier. The alternative is the 28 tram.

I mean it isn't a real castle nor original but it was nice and provided some nice views of Lisbon. Lots of peacocks everywhere and the weather was nice. If you have lots of time in Lisbon it is worth a visit.

Alfama, an ancient district in Lisbon, is characterized by steep streets where traditional crafts shops and cafes can be found. The historic no. 28 tram passes through Alfama on its way to São Jorge Castle, giving passengers a panoramic view of the city and the River Tagus from Miradouro da Graça terrace. In the evening, one can listen to melancholy Fado music while dining at some of the area's long-standing restaurants.
The Oceanario de Lisboa is a large aquarium in Lisbon, Portugal which showcases a wide variety of aquatic species. It's divided into four habitat zones, and the central tank is home to an impressive array of sealife. The attraction is great for children, and there are plenty of other sights and attractions in the surrounding area too.
Certainly the best aquarium I've ever been to. So peaceful and relaxing. The animals look well cared for with lots of space. There is plenty of space to sit and observe the large tank with the sharks, rays and more. More expensive than most tourist attractions in Lisbon - but well worth the cost.

I recently visited this aquarium and it was an incredible experience! The variety of sea life on display was truly impressive, and I was in awe of the vibrant colors and intricate details of each exhibit.
The aquarium is very well-maintained and clean, and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They were happy to answer any questions I had and even provided interesting facts about the different species of fish and marine life.
One of the highlights of my visit was the large tank with several different species of sharks swimming gracefully around. It was an incredible sight to behold, and I could have spent hours just watching them swim.
Overall, I highly recommend visiting this aquarium. It's a great place to learn about sea life and appreciate the beauty of our oceans. I can't wait to go back and explore more of what this wonderful attraction has to offer.

Love this place. Make sure you allocate lots of time to actually enjoy it. Lots of people and tends to be quiet busy so be prepared for that. Average time spent here I’d say is 2-3h. They have a gift shop at the end (of course) and a nice little eatery place.

Now this is how an ocean aquarium should look like everywhere. It is so clean, well maintained, with healthy biodiversity. It is not very big, but it screams quality over quantity. And don't get me wrong, it is not lacking diversity or things to see, oh no. It has everything you want to see in an aquarium and designed in a very smart way. I go to the local aquarium anywhere in the world, where I travel despite the fact that I also dive a lot, but I have to say, this is one of the best ones. Great job.

My partner and I had an amazing time here! This was top of my favorite places we had ventured off to in Lisbon, and highly recommended! The time and effort it took to get this place off the ground and operations is absolutely remarkable (all explained in a video inside, highly recommended to watch before going through it all!)
You have two options, you can wait for a cheap night kind of like a cocktail hour! but the line can be fairly long and typically a family things with children (cheaper so makes sense!) If its just two...i would recommend going anytime!

In Europe this is one of the best aquariums available. It’s quite big, a great place to visit and has a great collection aquatic creatures. Well maintained and worth the time.
The Underwater Forest is gorgeous, so take a moment to sit down and appreciate it instead of rushing past it.
The aquarium in general can be very crowded and busy, so don’t go during the weekend, but go during the week.

It was really great fun! I haven't been to one since I was a kid. It's hard not to lose focus when you get to the end, which has a little more variety and it's slightly experienced. The food at the café was excellent!

My visit to Oceanário de Lisboa was truly remarkable. The size of the facility exceeded my expectations, and I found it easy to navigate. The diversity of fish, numbering in the thousands, left me in awe. Observing sharks and other exotic fish up close was an incredibly captivating experience. The architectural layout was exceptionally well-designed, creating a thoughtfully managed space. My time there was absolutely fantastic, providing me with an unforgettable experience. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Felipe Nogueira (PePeTD) — Google review
Easily one of the best aquariums I've been to. The design and layout of the place is very well thought-out, with the central 'main' tank being visible from a total of 8 main viewing windows across two floors and several smaller windows; the benefit of this is that you don't get the usual crowding of the main exhibits and when we visited on a Monday afternoon we were able to take our time in taking in the incredible atmosphere of the underwater landscape. It's amazing how close you can get to the stars of the show unlike other aquariums. The building is divided up into quarters, each relating to a different part of the world. There were some very surprising exhibits like the sea otters and penguins. I liked the inclusion of seabirds too. Finally, I loved the message of the aquarium, was particularly surprised to hear Carl Sagan's pale blue dot monologue in one of the rooms, very much sums up the message they want to leave you with. A must-visit place if you enjoy aquariums.
Reece Spencer — Google review
An amazing aquarium to visit in Lisbon! Outside the building stood a tall mascot resembling a scuba diver, welcoming us upon entry. Once inside, we were greeted by walls adorned with blue Portuguese azulejo tiles, evoking the depths of the ocean. To reach the main building, we crossed a bridge. The aquarium was well-curated, boasting a diverse array of marine life and fish species, alongside a large glass tank at the center of the building. Undoubtedly, it ranks among the world's best aquariums, offering an experience worth every penny! Suitable for visitors of all ages, I highly recommend a visit to this remarkable place!
Patrick Min — Google review
An exceptionally awesome place. Everyone irrespective of the age would enjoy this place. Make sure you aim to spend at least two to three hours here. We were here for 1 1/2 hours but we felt that it was too short. It has a wide variety of fishes and other species. The place is very well maintained. If you are visiting Lisbon, make sure to include this in your itinerary.
Law Pundits — Google review
A very large Oceanarium with a huge central ocean basin that is the main attraction. This can be viewed from different locations and from different levels. You practically walk all around it.
There are also numerous other aquariums and areas to explore. Penguins, reef fish, a giant octopus and more. There is also a tropical forest.
Children can have fun with a little diver. This is available as a figure or in digital form and playfully teaches waste prevention and explains how life in the ocean works.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the restaurant on the second floor. The ambience did not seem very inviting. However, there was a nicely designed bistro on the first floor after the store with delicious food and very friendly staff.
We also enjoyed the additional exhibition "Forests under Water" on the upper floor near the entrance.
The entrance fee for 2 adults and one child was just under 60€. Unfortunately, we could not buy the online ticket because the website did not allow correct information when entering the mobile phone number (too few characters possible in the input field, country code can not be entered).
So we stood in line for about 15 minutes, so it went quite quickly at the ticket line.
In total we were there almost 5h, a great day in a fascinating place, especially in bad weather.

I had an incredible time at the Lisbon's aquarium, it's probably the best one I have ever been to. Hands down even better than Sea Life in London!
All the tanks are so well kept which made it enjoyable to walk through the aquarium. There's a massive pool / tank right in the middle of the aquarium which has so many different fish (including sharks!!). We absolutely enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend.

This aquarium has some pretty neat fish, sharks, starfish, and more. Overall, there were a lot of cool things to see here. However, we went during the happy hour, which gave us a big discount on ticket prices, and this ended up kind of tainting our experience here. It was so packed that you had to wait and then squeeze yourself through loads of people just to be able to see any of the exhibits. While we day pay only 7.50 per person, it may be worth it to pay the normal price for a less crowded experience.

Cane to visit during our first trip to Lisbon, totally worth it. A little out of the way from the city but easy to get to. A great idea for a date day. Would recommend going in the evening (around 4 or 5pm) when it’s less crowded. The underwater forest is a must see

Great value! I have seen the aquarium’s in NYC, Baltimore, Atlanta, and others! This place definitely stands out amongst them as one of the best. Giant tank with multiple viewing points to ensure that you have a viewing experience of every fish. The exhibits were very well maintained and very well done. I highly recommend checking this out with your family if you are in town! It was incredible!

The place is absolutely amazing and very good for learning as much as enjoying. the superstars of the place are the two magnificent giant artic otters.
The location is fantastic and there are plenty of places where to eat either before of after visiting the aquarium

Absolutely blown away by the marine section, spent over and hour just in there exploring all the differing environments. And seeing how all the inhabitants interact with their environment.
And then onto the main reason for coming, to sit and admire Amano sans masterpiece. To just sit and take in the sheer scale of the plants and how they have grown to gigantic proportions. To admire the fish and seeing them meander amongst the plants was stunning.
Flown from the UK just for this, and was worth it. Will be coming multiple times during my stay, just so I can absorb the ambience at leisure.

We had a great time here, me and my 2 boys (3 & 4) visited and loved it. We went off peak so we didn't have a problem with it being too busy. We got to see lots of animals and learn a lot. I loved how different it was to other aquariums I've been to and it was cleaned and well maintained. Sea otters were my favourite
Paige Paterson — Google review
Excellent aquarium, lots of different sea creatures to see and many spots to view the main tank from. The main tank is by far the main attraction because of its immense size and diversity of creatures living together including a surprisingly large school of fish. The animals almost all appear to be happier and more engaged than at other aquariums we've been too because they are less crowded in their tanks. My main recommendation is to not waste too much time trying to look at the main tank at the beginning of the path because they are often the most crowded. Instead, go to less crowded viewing areas later on.
Robert Vida — Google review
This place was amazing! They have a huge tank in the middle with all kinds of fishes and baby sharks and the aquarium was built around the tank so no matter where you go or which floor, you have a view of this tank. They have benches for you to sit and just take in the view, peace and quiet. I loved the penguin section and watching the otters swim. It is a must if you are visiting Lisbon.
Suzy Torres — Google review
Not the best aquarium in the world as advertised but still fine. Always crowded during Summer and on weekends. Book in advance. During the visit do not forget to spend time with the otters. They are amazing creatures.

I loved everything about this place. The staff was fantastic, courteous, and were multilingual. The displays were huge. I mean huge. There's a giant tank in the middle that you can stop and see in-between seeing all of the other exhibits. And all of the exhibits were incredibly educational (great for kids), and fun to watch. None of them felt forced, it was just the animals in their "natural" environment. I strongly advise going here for a day trip. You can also bundle tickets for the cable cars in with your ticket to the aquarium, so you can quickly and easily get to the mall and restaurant strip ~1KM away

My boyfriend and I both loved it! We were in Lisbon on vacation and discovered that they had this aquarium that was really well known. (How I missed it in my planning, I don't know!) I love going to aquariums in the cities I visit and I think this was probably my favorite after Atlanta's aquarium. There were a lot of exhibits, information was posted all around so you could know what you were looking at, and the animals were all really active! We got to watch the puffins get fed and that was a lot of fun. Their ocean tank in the middle was massive and you could see it from every angle as you walked the building. We spent I think 3 hours there and were in no rush, so I would say you want at least an hour or two set aside for it. Overall, great experience and I would definitely recommend making a stop while you are in Lisbon.

Jardim das Portas do Sol, located within the old Santarem Castle walls, offers a stunning view over the Tagus River and the Dom Luis bridge. It is a popular spot in Santarem, with its shady walks perfect for picnics or leisurely strolls. It's a city park integrated within the old city walls. Very nice views over the Tagus river. The place could be a bit more well maintained and is lacking some a café or restaurant, besides the one already there. Some of the fences were damaged and there seemed to be some work being done but not sure what it was and it seemed abandoned. Still very worth the visit, a landmark of the region for sure.

Parque Natural da Arrábida is a stunning coastal natural park located near Lisboa, Portugal. The park boasts magnificent chalk cliffs, fascinating caves inhabited by bats, and a mountain range that offers plenty of hiking trails to explore. Visitors can also marvel at the 1500s convent and forts within the park's boundaries. This natural gem is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking breathtaking views and an unforgettable experience.

The beach was awesome, peaceful and calm.
No crowd at all even during morning or evening. It was long beach covered with white sand and . If you love a beach without any crowd around and this is the best place. Not a commercial place and you will not find any hotels, other shops typically that you will find in popular tourist place.

Stunning park in Setubal! Such a massive park you need a few hours to walk the trails and visit. The beaches around Setubal are spectacular! Feels like you're going down south on vacation. The water is clear, not many waves, and the sand is nice and clean!

Context: visited as a tourist in Jun 2023. Can't speak for other times of the year
All round amazing place. Beautiful blue sea lovely sandy beach, and restaurants all around and all just an hour south of Lisbon!
Was booked as part of an excursion from TripAdvisor (again highly recommend) nd we arrived before midday. There were still a number of people so would recommend getting early. There were a number of people doing activities including kayaking, swimming, fishing, snorkeling and more.
Highly recommend to any other tourists visiting Lisbon.
Praia Tróia Mar is a stunning beach located on the Troia Peninsula, just a ferry ride away from Setubal. This paradisiacal destination offers calm and transparent waters, soft white sands, and an 18km long coastline to explore. The microclimate of the area allows for enjoyable visits throughout the year, with plenty of activities to indulge in. Praia Tróia Mar is described as picturesque and family-friendly, offering miles of beautiful beaches to explore.
Very beautiful and large stand on a headland. At low tide you can walk far into the sea. Troia is easily reached via the very frequent catamaran or ferry services of Atlantic Ferries from Setubal. We came from the south and took the very to Setubal. The beaches were empty due to Covid lockdown in Portugal and low season, but it was still amazing and worth a visit!

Incredible beach— can’t say enough good things about it! My family and I absolutely adore it.
We’ve been staying in Setúbal for the past week, and we’ve been visiting this beach almost every day. The beach takes a bit of work to get to, but it’s absolutely worth it. The ferry from Setúbal to Tróia is €26.40 for 3 people. It’s a 12-15 minute ride, and it’s a lovely experience. The views are gorgeous, and I’d recommend taking the 7:30 pm ferry back to Setúbal to catch the sunset. Once you arrive on the peninsula, you walk about 20-25 minutes along a wooden boardwalk to reach the beach. It’s a picturesque walk, and you get to pass a outdoor cat colony. The cats are so sweet, and they appear to be cared for by the locals.
The beach is magnificent. There was a warm breeze every day we were there, which kept the flies away. The sand is so soft and sparkly and not too hot. For context, we are visiting in late September. The water is cold, but you can definitely acclimate. It’s so blue, clear, and clean. At low tide, there are amazing sand bars, and you can walk pretty far out. I was also able to collect some gorgeous shells. Finally, there are ample trash cans and a clean bathroom. This beach as everything I want in a beach. I truly adore it.

The water is freezing and the sand scorching. It could have better infrastructure with more hammocks and sunshades. It was 41 degrees today which is unbearable for most people.

Cristal clear waters, easy to reach by Ferry from Setubal Atlantic ferries station that has a trip every hour. And then walk for 10 mins.
There’s a small bar that has Beer, water, Cola, …etc close to the beach.
There are Chaseloungs and Umbrellas.
No shower rooms, only WC

What they’ve done in the area is incomprehensible, large concrete building, a casino, a conference center all in a preserved environmental area. The beach offers views on industrial Seubal port area and ferry containers. there is a golf opposite side of a Roman ruins area ! The whole Peninsula area development is a complete non-sense.

Troia Beach is located in the Troia Peninsula, which is a sandy strip of land that extends along the coast of Portugal. It is a popular destination for tourists because of its beautiful beaches and clear waters. Praia Troia Mar is one of the main beaches in the area and is known for its wide stretch of sand, calm waters, and scenic views. Visitors can also enjoy a range of water sports and outdoor activities, such as windsurfing, kayaking, and hiking.
Overall, Troia Beach is a great destination for those seeking a relaxing and scenic getaway. However, as with any location, individual experiences and opinions may vary. It is always a good idea to research and read reviews from multiple sources to get a well-rounded understanding of a destination before making travel plans.

Wonderful beach. To get there you can catch the Fertagus in Lisbon until Setúbal (final stop). Then you can walk for 10-15 minutes until Atlantic Ferry stop where you catch the boat to Troia. The whole trip lasts 75 to 80 minutes. Totally worth it! A few hours after midday there's a low tide as well so you are able to walk to the other side of the bay which is pretty cool.

My family and I stayed here for two nights. I’ve been to many five star hotels and resorts all over the world and I have to say, Sublime has to be amongst my top favourites. I honestly couldn’t fault a single thing. Everything was amazing, from the breakfast, rooms, staff, facilities etc to the small touches. It has such a wonderful atmosphere, like nowhere else. You really feel as if you’re in a home away from home, in an oasis. One member of our party also had a special request for dinner, something that even wasn’t on the menu and they happily catered to her with a smile. I couldn’t recommend Sublime more highly and we’ll definitely be back again soon!

Great experience. Excellent Service. Beautiful setting, remote though. Great breakfast! Delicious local oysters for dinner.
Cool vibe but a a bit cold though! The rooms are located in villas. But not all have access to the villa’s common rooms, which leaves you to the common areas in the lobby area which are unfortunately quite cold and drafty. You need a warm sweater in this 5 Star hotel.

An absolute oasis in Comporta. One of the most serene resorts you’ll ever enjoy. The food and service are equally outstanding. The bio pool cottages are ideal for two people.
John Shegda — Google review
My overall experience was okay up until I had a family emergency. ‘Providing peace, tranquility and nurturing guests’ is an important aspect of the experience not only when times are good but is even more important when times are bad. Unfortunately I got some bad news whilst staying there in my first day that my father has a sudden heart attack with the potential of death in the next few hours. It was absolutely pivotal I was to fly back to london as quickly as possible and as you can imagine I was in shock and extremely stressed, but I feel like the FOH staff were not compassionate and not understanding of my situation or of my well being at the time. The only concern was to ensure I pay all bills. I only stayed one night of the three nights and there wasn’t any consideration to reduce or subsidise my final payment. As you can imagine this was my last concern but I was being slightly pestered to resolve this. I understand policy but emergency circumstances need to be dealt with humanity, care, understanding and compassion. I did not receive this and I felt very let down by the FOH team who only cared about money. I also had a terrible nights sleep due to frog noises in the night, when I asked to upgrade to the bio pool room I was not made aware of this. I also called the reception in the middle of the night to ask for ear plugs and I was told I had to wait util 6am due to lack of staff and I eventually received them at 2/3pm after asking three or four times throughout the morning.I ended up paying for 3 nights, and stayed for one very uncomfortable night. My lack of sleep that night did not help the extremely stressful day I was about to unexpectedly experience. I see massive potential here and it missed the human touch of empathy and compassion! Paid for 3 nights and ended up staying for one! :(

Gem of a hotel situated just 10 minutes from the beach. Innovative biopool suites with veranda access. Several good restaurants with Tiger prawns the choice of the menu ! Staff eager and helpful. Comporta the nearest town (15 min drive ) is clearly up and coming with an interesting little market and plenty of land development businesses !

Booked Sublime with my fiancé for our final night in Portugal - we had traveled down to the algarve, and needed somewhere closer to Lisbon to make our transit to the airport for a flight departing at 10am more feasible. I am so thankful I stumbled across Sublime - the property is stunning - gorgeous greenery, thoughtful additions like fresh herb plants around the lawns, and gorgeously curated decor. Our room (the owner suite) was impeccable - I’ve never stayed somewhere so nice. My only caution is the restaurant is very expensive and food sub par. Overall, recommend for a treat yourself stay. I wish we had more time to thoroughly enjoy our stay as we had to depart at 5am.

Spa experience was really good. My husband who rarely agrees to having a massage loved the deep tissue massage by Angela and my Sports massage by Jose was one of the best Ive ever had. I’m a Physiotherapist and I really appreciated the wonderful setting, Spa and skills of Jose. Worth the price tag. All other staff in Spa were so kind too.
Lucy B — Google review
We arrived and it felt like a 5 star experience and we were very excited. The main issue with our experience was there was not a lot to do there. We went in November, so it was off season. I think the resort could let people know that the town is a ghost town in the winter. Literally it's shut down. Only 1 of the 4 restaurants is open in the off-season. The resort itself is mostly villas and the main lodge. There is a nice gym
The spa is lacking a bit. There is a small pool, a 2-3 person sauna and steam room, and a hot tub. If the spa was exceptional, it would make sense to go in the winter in my opinion.
All of this said, I'm sure it's lovely in the summer.
Michael Joseph — Google review
We just stay for 3 days at Sublime and we will be back for a full week within the next few months. The resort and the vibes are great but the staff made a massive difference. From our great Brazilian host when we checked in, to the concierge always available to help, the sense of details / small attention of Mohamed's and his housekeeping team, the spot on recommendations of the sommelier, and basically all the restaurant & beach waiters, the Sublime team has been fantastic. We will remember their kindness to our little one.
We can only recommend anyone visiting Comporta to stay at this place!

The winery Monte da Ravasqueira is a beautiful place to visit with interesting wine-making and tour options. The antique carriages are a nice surprise, and the hosts are friendly and informative. The wine tasting room is beautiful, with a fireplace, hostess who provides delicious lunch, and lovely wines to taste. It's worth visiting if you're in the area!
Ines and Diogo in the Wine tasting shop are excellent guides.
We spent 90 minutes getting introduced to the winery and then tasting several excellent wines.
Then we spent 30 minutes in a very fun and engaging dialog about travel, including several areas of Portugal, Italy, France, parts of the U. S., etc. All delightful. Lovely people.

A wonderfully relaxed tour with old carriages and a vineyard finishing with a wine tasting. The lovely multilingual lady running the tour (whose name I missed unfortunately) was suitably informed on all aspects that I expressed curiosity for. She also recommended the correct restaurants in Arraiolos. I visited in February, so it was quiet and the vineyard itself had no leaves, but it was still very worthwhile.

This estate is a staggering 7,000 plus acres and has been owned by the same family since shorty after WW2. The family is one of the wealthiest in Portugal. This property was their summer estate where they groomed horses for a long time before the current generation decided to turn it into a winery. We arrived by car and found ample parking. We had a wonderful private tour of the estate. Our guide was knowledgeable and allowed us to not only explore the facility to be be educated into the process of turning grapes into wine. We walked from the tasting room to the fermenting facility which from a distance looked like old buildings but were in fact newer building made to look old. Inside we wondered along the gantries and looked down on the large stainless steel vats where the grapes are crushed and the wine starts its first fermenting in large stainless steel tanks. We then explored the storage room where a certain amount of wine destined for a vintage label are stored in oak barrels. We were allowed to have a peek into the bottling room where modern machinery fills and labels the bottles. The fields are labeled with Portuguese Ceramic tile signs that identify the type of grape grown there. Heading back to the tasting room we passed the private residence of the family which is still in use today. Along the way we popped into a building which forms the museum of antique carriages collected over the years by the original owner of the property. Carriages for the 1700 look as they did in the period. They have not been rebuild or reupholstered. The collection is very interesting even if your not into carriages. Just the array of the transportation of the pre-automobile era over the centuries is fascinating. We spent some time in front of a unique and rather large carriage that was once owned by the famous car designer Bugatti himself. From the museum we moved on to the wine tasting. The tasting comes with a fee depending on what you want to taste. In the end we discovered that the wine we liked is only $6 more at home in North America as the price the winery was charging. This was surprising and frankly, disappointing. One would expect the price to far less than the full retail half a world away. In the end we did not buy any wine. However, we decided to try a bottle of their champagne or Spumante as they call it because the can not use the Champagne name. We brought it home and look forward to opening it. The property also has a restaurant which requires a reservation in advance. If your in the area, its worth a tour.

Beautiful property and winery. Out-of-the-ordinary because of the collection of antique carriages that visitors can see on the guided tour. Beautiful wine tasting room, interesting tour of wine-making, delicious lunch – and wine – in yet another beautiful room (with a fireplace), hosted by smiling, friendly Carlos. Teresa, our guide for the winery tour was informative, knowledgeable, nice and – when we told her we did not have a car – drove us in her car (weather was awful for walking). Worth a visit!

The estate is beautiful — and impressive! We toured Monte da Ravasqueira in February, so the grapes weren’t growing yet. The vineyards stretch out in all directions and we were led through them to the processing plant, which itself was impressively large. Production wasn’t taking place since it was Sunday, but it was still interesting to see. We also visited the on-site carriage museum, with horse-drawn carriages dating back to the 18th Century. I never thought I’d need to see that, but am surprisingly glad I did! And, finally, we did a wine tasting of six of their excellent (and affordable) wines.
From other reviews we were expecting these Roman Baths to be difficult to find but once you have identified the building - the town hall - the receptionist pointed us in the direction of the baths and gave us an explanatory leaflet that was in English as well as Portuguese. The baths are interesting as much for their situation in the middle of the building, you can see offices through windows around them, as for the construction of the baths. The bath is a 9 m circular bath with steps like a jacuzzi and there are some remains from the furnace too. It isn't worth going out of your way for but if you are passing Monday to Friday in office hours then pop in and see.

The Evora Roman Temple is a religious and archaeological site in Évora, Portugal that was built in honor of Augustus, the first Roman Emperor. The ruins date back to the 2nd or 3rd century AD and are among the best-preserved Roman monuments in Portugal. Some archaeologists believe it may have been dedicated to Julius Caesar.

Lots of history in this city. Chapel of bones was interesting as well as seeing their old water system that ran through the city, as well as cathedrals.

While it's very impressive to see the remains of this ancient temple still standing 2,000 years after it was built, there's not much to it. It's just this structure. Don't get me wrong, I love the town of Evora. It is adorable, but the temple alone is not that impressive.
Ken Weary — Google review
Very iconic but, in total honesty, not much is left of it. Can't match other Roman ruins of bigger dimension and better preserved. Still, a powerful landmark in a lovely ancient city.

Beautiful ruins of the Roman temple which are located close to the city centre and Evora Cathedral. There is a small outside cafe near to it if you would like to relax nearby.
What is missing? History and story behind this monument. There is a small board with information that it was built about 2,000 years ago and most probably was dedicated to the Roman goddess Diana. But these few details are not enough to submerge yourself more into this city thousands of years ago and feel it’s atmosphere. I think there could have been more information on how the city looked like back then, what was the life like, who were the citizens? Why the Cathedral was built so close to the Temple? Unfortunately, I stayed with too many unanswered questions (leaving me a bit annoyed and unsatisfied because I couldn’t find more information online 🤓)

Love coming back to this place. Brings me childhood memories. It’s incredible to see such an old structure embedded in the middle of this amazing city, inspiring with its presence for centuries. There is no Évora without its ex-libris 🤩

The ruins are very beautiful and makes you think about our culture and heritage a lot. There's a park around it and also a little café which pairs up nicely, you can stop for a refreshing drink and enjoy the view. Nothing really that much to see since the ruins are pretty high and you can't get that close up, but overall a nice place for some pics.

Beautiful Roman ancient ruine in the middle of the Évora. The history of the monument is also interesting, if was used as a castle tower and later as a slaughter house. The current state of the ruine of the temple is nice. You can see the entrance to the altar. You cannot enter the temple.

A must visit when you are in Evora.
The temple is still in fairly good condition. Access is best by foot but it's possible to reach it by car, parking might be hard to find.

This is a nice spot to sit on a late summer afternoon and soak up some sun. The ruin is impressive, and it's right next to the Museum do Frei Manuelo do Cenáculo and very near the Cathedral of Evora.

Fascinating to see such an ancient structure. Located at a square in one of the highest points in Évora, it is surrounded by other historic structures, an excellent winery / restaurant and a lovely park overlooking the countryside (from which you can see the viaduct in the distance.)
Craig Monsell — Google review
One of the main sights of Evora. The ruins are impressive but there is not much to look at. There are a few more things of interest in nearby though (restaurants, a little park, museums and the cathedral).
Olaf Katrynski — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking! To be able to feel as though you with history in a single moment.
Our family were the only people there to be in that moment.... with that history....
Absolutely incredible!
Yes, I know I look like a dork. But it's better than the emotional pic I had a few minutes later.

Well preserved roman ruins much enjoyed by a history buff like myself.

Beautiful monument in the centre of Evora. Als a small parque with a coffee. Nearby there are public toilets.

Incredible that this Roman temple is as preserved as it is, right in the middle of a town square! Best of all, it is right in front of the Pousada hotel. What could be more convenient?! Also: there is no entry fee, but there is no entry. Just walk along the base and take your picture!
Jennifer Saurenman — Google review
This Roman temple is very well preserved, and is truly a sight to behold. The lights make it look beautiful at night, a must-visit location if you're nearby. It's also located right next to the cathedral, so you can visit simultaneously.

Beautiful place. This ruin is original, not a reconstruction! Those Romans could build!

The Chapel of Bones in Évora, housed within the Church of St. Francis, is a peculiar tourist spot adorned with the skeletal remains of more than 5,000 monks. These bones were exhumed from nearby cemeteries to create space for additional burials. The walls of this small 16th-century chapel are lined with skulls and body parts in an eerie display that fascinates visitors.
Sure, it’s a little macabre, but the history and uniqueness is worth the trip. The story about why the bones were used, the poem within, and the inscription above the door are beautiful. It’s a fairly small room, especially considering it’s supposedly made up of 5,000 corpses, and most people were in-and-out in less than 5 minutes. The entrance fee is €5, cash or card, and includes some other artifacts, a nativity museum upstairs, and a nice view of the town from the balcony.

A Unique and Thought-Provoking Experience.
Capela dos Os Capela dos Ossos, also known as the Chapel of Bones, is a truly captivating and thought-provoking site. The chapel, adorned with human bones and skulls, offers a glimpse into the fascinating history and mortality of humanity. The atmosphere inside is solemn and eerie, yet it serves as a powerful reminder of our own impermanence. The intricate bone displays and macabre architecture make for a hauntingly beautiful sight. While it may not be for the faint of heart, Capela dos Ossos is an extraordinary and unforgettable attraction, providing a unique perspective on life and death. Highly recommended for those seeking an unconventional and contemplative experience.

The Chapel of Bones itself is very small. It is a single room where most people will spend 5 minutes. It's fascinating and a grim reminder of everyone's mortality.
For the entrance fee, this chapel alone wouldn't be worth it, but the fee also allows access to other areas and displays throughout the church, including hundreds of nativity scenes from around the world, and a small museum with artifacts. My family and I spent an hour or two in these other areas, and we felt it was very much worthwhile for both the time and the entrance fee.

I was expecting something bigger to be honest. The price is a bit high for something that takes you 5min to see. You have access to a small museum though, to the rooftop of the church and to temporary exhibitions (it was the nativity represented around the world when I visited).
Ticket is 5e for adults, 3.5 for students. You can pay by card only from 10e.

A simply amazing place in Évora! Definitely, a must on the list of any traveler. The chapel is beyond impressive and it's unique. The pictures speak for themselves. If you have an issue with seeing bones and death, heads up, there are also mummies exposed there and there are bones all over the walls.

What a interesting place to visit. Literally a chapel built with the remains of thousands plastered into the walls a a memorial to how short life is. History shows a church founded by the Franciscans in 1200. The nativity’s from around the world were a sight to see.

It is an interesting place to visit in Evora, it definitely is something different I have not seen anywhere else. The Chapel of Bones is a small chapel built with bones and skulls on the columns and on the walls all around.
Visiting the Chapel gives a good reminder about the fact that everything is temporary and the explanations in the chapel help give more context about it.
When we visited there were also two mummies of a dad and a son. Included in the ticket you also have an exhibition about the Nativity around the world.
Overall I would say that this is an interesting site and definitely if you are in Evora I would recommend stopping by.

Not recommended for children who are too young. This is a chapel with bones from 5000 people adorning the walls and columns. Part of the museum tour with ticket cost Euro 6.
A unique experience.

It was unique and very interesting chapel. Tickets were cheap. We didn't wait as it was empty. I'm not sure if it's the same during weekends. The only problem is that it's too far from Lisbon so you must have s car to get there.

Very somber but beautiful visit. Go early or in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. It is a quick visit. The ticket includes a museum and is reasonably priced.

Everywhere there is written that’s an unmissable spot and.. couldn’t agree more! The inscription at the entrance gives already chills. And the interiors are really ground for reflection about life and death. Beautiful in a creepy way. Definitely take the time to go and visit it.

The Capela dos Ossos is one of the most visited places in Evora. For me, It was a mix of feelings, scary and impressive. It was built by Franciscan monks. An estimated 5,000 corpses were exhumed to decorate the walls of the chapel. The bones, which came from ordinary people who were buried in Évora's medieval cemeteries, were arranged by the Franciscans in a variety of patterns

Very much impressed with the chapel of bones. Highly recommend to visit. In addition there are a special exhibition of personal collections of nativity from all around world. Personally it was so much interesting that i can see all different cultural presentations.

Do not miss this! The chapel was an incredible site! I’ve never seen anything like it. And the church next door is majestic and captivating as well.

Expected more but it’s different then anything I have ever seen. I can’t believe they actually used human bones in the making of this chapel. Some of the artifacts like the picture of the cup are over 1,000 years old. The history in these old countries never ceases to amaze me.

The ticket cost around 6 euros per person including the museum and the Chapel of Bones. It's quite an experience to see the master mind of architecture of the chapel using real human bones. (If you are a sensitive person, it might be overwhelming).
The museum contains valuable historic paintings and statues of the Catholic church history.
Anjelin S — Google review
Apart from the bone chapel - which is interesting enough - the rest of the museum has a very cheerful nativity exposition which is really enjoyable. The terrace also has a nice view over Evora. The adjacent church is beautiful (free entrance).

A provoking chapel with bones and skulls all over the walls and pillars. This is an encredible place and is really thought provoking. Besides skulls and bones on the walls there are also two mummies in the chapel. The roof of the chapel is also beautifully decorated. The entrance to the Chapel of Bones and the museum is just 6 euros and is well worth it, there was practically no wait for the tickets. When we visited it was a bit busy but at some times calm. Besides this you also have access to the museum with Christian paintings/religious art and many nativity scenes.

A weird and wonderful place to visit. The entire chapel is made from the skulls and bones of previous residents. Also a nice museum upstairs with some unusual statues.

The Chapel of Bones, Evora Portugal is a truly unique and fascinating spot, unlike any other religious building you are likely to encounter. Imagine stepping into a small chapel, every surface intricately decorated with thousands of human bones and sculls. Sculls stare down from the vault above, femurs form arches and ribs line the walls crating a macabre yet oddly beautiful mosaic. Visiting the Chapel of Bones is a thought provoking experience. It’s a powerful reminder of our own mortality and encourages contemplation on life, death, and the eternal cycle of existence.

An amazingly interesting site! The bone chapel is just a small part of the entire property. I believe it was €10, which for us, was worth it! It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before!! We purchased tickets on site and there was no wait during a weekend at in June.

One of my favourite monuments in Portugal, a grim yet beautiful reminder of our mortality. The entry includes visiting the museum, which is also reccomend for both its historic religious pieces and their collection of nativity scenes from all over

Amazing experience coming to see the chapel of the bones. A bit macabre for sure, but the Franciscan monks in the 16th century thought this was appropriate since the local cemeteries were being reclaimed and they were trying to save the bones.
Built in 1746, this renowned Catholic cathedral in Évora offers stunning city vistas from its tower. The Cathedral of Évora, which took over a century to complete, showcases an amalgamation of architectural styles including Romantic, Gothic, and Baroque. Noteworthy features on the frontage include two grand medieval towers and an impressive portal adorned with exquisite sculptures of apostles.
The price is 3.50euro for the tower and the cathedral (there’s no student ticket and only cash). The view is really nice on the roof but you need to climb some very steep stairs. I will recommend to visit this place and enjoy the view. Also inside the cathedral is also beautiful.

You have different tickets going from 3 to 5 euros depending on which part you wanna visit. I visited the cloister (lower and upper level), the cathedral, and the rooftop. It give nice views on the city but the cathedral has nothing really exceptional. I would still recommend to do it if you are visiting Evora.

Excellent stop in Evora. Great value and very easy to burn an hour or more. Splendid variety of views, artifacts and experiences. Even the most jaded tourists, like me, can admit this is a highlight of any trip to the region.
Jesse Korzan — Google review
View is amazing since you have a full view of Evora. Tickets were cheap. The stairs were too narrow. There's only one tower where you can use the stairs to go up and down. You won't be able to go upstairs while someone else is coming downstairs. There're many souvenirs machines where you insert money or pay by visa to get a coin where the cathedral is printed on it. I liked my silver coin a lot. I also liked that there's a passage that makes you feel like you're at Hogwarts

Worth the visit both inside and outside. A must for Gothic lovers but you will find Renaissance and baroque too inside those old walls. The view from the terrace is beautiful and the museum has a nice collection of religious art.
The church itself is a wonder.
Take at least an hour for this visit you will not regret it!

Nice cathedral, you can get up on the roof and enjoy the views. Was definetely worth the entry fee. You als find other museums, parks and sights nearby, which makes this place a great stop if you visit Evora.

Loved it. HINTS-Give yourself time to see it all - they start turning off the lights in the Treasury 15-20 mins before closing. You are expected to be OUT by closing time. Also, there are many narrow stairs and some very steep spiral staircase. Keep in mind that people have to go up and down some of the same sections so it can get backed up waiting for slow people or just waiting for your turn.
Great views.

Cathedral is a very nice place to visit!! Of course you have to pay 4€ (student price) to get in put the view from the roof top totally worth it. The museum was not something special but the church and the court yard are beautiful!!

Great architecture. Amazing views. Religious art and relics on display in the treasury is not impressive to me, but it also speaks of the power of believing and the business that goes with it.

A visit to this cathedral is a must when visiting Evora. While the cathedral is nice, ir's not something extrordinary. Instead a visit to the roof is an adventure on itself as the winding stairs go up and diwn at the same tome, but can only acompany either of that. Wriggling to get through is the only option.
Atop thd view of the old city is great.
Second stop was the cloister where you also can ascend to that roof. This time it's oneway only. The view from this roof at the cathedral is amazing.

Must see in Evora! For 4.5 eur/person you get to see the tower/roof/terraces/cloister/church/museum - all impressive, you can spend at least 1h here. And the views from above are beautiful. I found it more interesting and complex to visit than the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos in Belem/Lisbon.
Doru Balacianu — Google review
The largest medieval cathedral in Portugal.
You can visit the gothic cloister and climb to the terrace, from where you can enjoy a beautiful panorama over the entire city of Évora, since the Cathedral is located at its highest point.
*Note - cash only to purchase tickets

Somewhat modest if compared with other cathedrals throughout Europe, it is, nonetheless, very interesting and worth a visit, with the bonus of offering great views around from its rooftop.

This cathedral is an impressive monument of religious architecture. It is the biggest medieval church in Portugal. It was built in the age of transition from romanic to gothic style, compleyely in stone. Additions during later centuries, in different style, gave it a unique appearence. It stands in a small hill, that is a short walk from the central Praca do Giraldo, through atmospheric old Evora building. It is recommend to climb the stairway and go to the roof from where you can admire the whole city. It is well worth the stenuous ascent and the ticket of the visit.

Great place. We walked around the town and enjoyed some cheap beers. Very nice town with cool views. The cathedral was great and very unique! FYI - LOTS of stairs to the top for the view BUT worth it!!!!

The largest of medieval and cathedrals in Portugal with the best example of Gothic architecture, the Evora Cathedral is a World Heritage Site and one of the most important monuments in Evora. It's definitely a must-see place of you're visiting Evora.
Make sure to go to the top to enjoy the views of the city. The cost is €5 for adults, €3.50 for seniors.
