Since most of the exhibitions are closed, it’s not worth visiting. Got a student ticket for 1k HUF, so I guess it was fine. If you are planning to visit, you need to wait for the end of the renovation, as I think it will give much more for money. I think it can be a super cool location once it has everything open and working. Beautiful views on the city though

Visiting the castle is worth the price of the ticket. There was lots of renovations going on at the time of our visit, so parts of the area were closed and the surroundings were a bit chaotic. At the ticket office was a helpful person working, for the rest personnel didn't speak other language besides Hungarian or they were not interested in serving clients.

We had a wonderful time walking around and seeing the castle fortifications, as well as the exhibits, which fortunately have English text in addition to Hungarian. There wasso much we missed out on, though - costumed performers demonstrating life in the time of the Castle's heyday, it appeared. It would be wonderful if they occasionally had the performance in other langauages, but at least perhaps a flyer with some translated information?

After arriving from Budapest at noon, and a nice lunch, the first thing was to visit Eger Castle. One can spend the entire afternoon there. It was most enjoyable, informative as well as a walk back in time. Worth a visit and to spend about 4 hours.

Beautiful place to visit,lots of history and interesting things to learn. Try the restaurant as well as the food is extraordinary good in here. Be prepared some of the cashier is rude and also if you’re a student over 25 the cashier will not apply the student discount. I felt discriminated as I believe regardless of age a student is a student and should be considered. The cashier almost made out that I am lying. When I tried to explain I am an adult student she said well over 25 you’re to old to have student discount. Yet again discrimination against my age.

For us, it's not worth to visit the castle before 5pm, from this time you can buy a walk tickets for less than the half of the daily price and it doesn't give you that much more. Daily ticket was 4.000 HUF, walking ticket from 5pm was 1.500. From springs to fall it's worth better to choose this because you can watch the sun going down from the castle which is pretty cool. If you're a museum fan maybe it's worth to visit before 5pm because the museums close at 6pm. Parking in the area is pretty complicated but it can be solved and you have to pay for it!

If you don’t speak Hungarian don’t waste your time and money. Paid 4,800HUF for 2 people and it’s the price just for the entry ticket, you have to pay extra if you want to see e.g the wax figures. It was hard to find anything since there is literally no information in English. There are some tours to the underground but only in Hungarian and you can’t go there by yourself because it’s locked. The castle itself is under heavy construction (pictures attached), lots of places are fenced off. Toilets are out of service, staff at the information desk spoke poor English. The only think we liked was the place where you could see the firearm and military equipment from the past.

It is under construction right now, but the view is still great from there. We really liked the weapon museum inside the turret. The price of a ticket is cheap, we were getting there a little before we could have bought the cheaper ones, but the full price was still worth it to be honest. One ticket was 1200Ft.

As I am Turkish origin, It reminds me of Gaziantep and Ankara castle. According to my nephew, Birecik. It's a nice city to see over the castle around.

We were lucky to visit during the festival week around the end of July. Planty of activities and shows. Good fun.

Looks much better from the city than it does from inside the walls. Incredible that someone who loves the history can destroy such a historic castle. Renovations are done in awful way and it's actually being modernized and some parts are being added that weren't part of the actual castle. While you walk inside the walls, you can see newer buildings in the castle from that are from different ages and not the same architecture styles. Same goes for cannons. Seriously, stop destroying this castle and if you are doing some works, should keep things and the castle how they actually were in the history. Everything else is just architecture genocide. Looks like someone is strictly after tourists and doesn't care much about preserving this part of history.

Visited in Winter, so pretty sparse. The castle is representative of the vibe in Hungary, massive history without a whole lot of explanation. Better experience if you do a bit of research before you go.

We have now visited many castles across Europe. This is one of the few that we have seen that have been fully renovated to perfection. The customer service was very slow and hard to communicate in english This may not be the most visually impressive castle/ fortress around, especially from the outside. But it has many impressive rooms, exhibitions, displays and events on offer. We loved the weapons exhibition which had the highest quality collection I have seen. We also highly recommend paying for entry to the Eger 1552 movie. It was really high quality and a good short film to watch.

Not as good as many other castles we have visited. The ticket office is super slow, you can get up on parts of the ramparts and there are different "museums" with different themes and artifacts, including the max models which you have to pay extra for. Overloaded with tourists which always takes a bit of shine off.

An absolute MUST see place when visiting Eger! Enormous history will wait for you. Make sure you'll wear a very comfy footwear! Also, there is a certain tour which requires an additional ticket to purchase. The ticket prices are ridiculously low! You'll get a stunning view of the entire city! There are smaller vendors for refreshments, restaurant within. Exploring the entire castle will take a few hours, and it is worth every second!

Beautiful place for kids and adults to enjoy. Not much general history about the castle itself only the period of captain Dobo's time. Limited food access. Facilities not accessible for wheelchair or disabled users. Archaeological discoveries are positioned in the upper part of the museum, with high stair, so difficult to climb. Perhaps the castle would benefit to move it to the ground level so everyone is able to see it.

Really loved this little town. Wine cellars are walking distance from one another so you can easily take the bus from Budapest city. The wine is really good, with a great tasting selection of red and white. So much more affordable than in the city centre

Many, many wine cellars with many, many different and delicious kind of wines. When you visit this valley you can do cellars hopping. There is more than 30 of them, some even have live music.

It is a location with a special vibe. The old wineries inside the mountains give you a feeling of going back in time. If you are a wine drinker and you are traveling around this place you must stop here. The best wine I drank here. you can taste several dishes, talk to the producers and learn the history of the wineries. The tasting price starts from 400ft / 1 dl, and you can buy poured wine starting from the price of 2000ft 2 l bottle.I especially recommend the Kocsis family winery.

If you like wine, this is a must-visit place of the region. Most wineries will be happy to offer you some samples and most of them are rather on the great side in taste. Bulk wines have the greatest price to value ratio yet I can not say the bottled ones wouldn't be worth their prices. This place has a really great milieu to it, but prepare yoi wouldn't want to be the one who's driving.

Some hits, some misses, but this is a Must-Do in Eger! Torma pince wines are by far superior to everything else out there, try the REM 2013 - an AMAZING blend. Just fantastic, as is their work with Kekfrankos (skip the Bikaver - it's just an inferior grape!)

Some great wineries number 34 -22-25 were special exceptional wines and nibbles very reasonably priced for all measures Beware at number 47 waited for us to get seated before asking us to leave because he was closing early Overall a great afternoon out and a land train to and from the town

Lovely and peaceful place, good for camping and BBQ

Beautiful valley with many cellars, great wines, perfect bread with onion. Also a playground for kids and places to sit in the park with fireplaces.

Overpriced restaurants with low quality of Hungarian foods. Also good luck if you have any dietary restrictions. Wine is semi good (but hey, I am not an expert in that). It could be so much nicer, it pains my heart.

Wine paradise... you can taste lots of variety of Hungarian wine....and then decide which you want bulk buying. If you become regular customer some of the wine cave shops offer Hungarian traditional dishes like hot goulash soup.... its best experience....

A short distance from the town square, you can even walk there. I took a leisurely stroll. Check out the different cellars for wine tasting. Restaurants are available but I think better in town. Enjoy your glass of red! Some are genuinely passionate about wine. Some are just for the money.

We visited several wine shops. Each and everyone offered very nice wines. Should definitely visit it during spring or summer to enjoy the nature at its best.

A really unique place to try a variety of wines from different wineries. Some cellars are really nice and cozy, others have mold growing all over the ceiling and walls - just something to be aware of as you bop around.

It's the main square of the city and a really lovely place. Full with cozy restaurants and Bars.

Centrum of Eger.. 20/25 minutes walking inside of the park from Eger train station. No need bus to arrive there. Go walking and appreciating the beautiful nature of Eger mainly on Ady Endre utca. A very beautiful street. A good place for traveling with several restaurants and cafes in the centrum.

Amazing feel to walk down the old streets and lanes of Eger. Marvelous architecture. One will definitely love the experience, while visiting.

Nice places in the downtown of Eger. Plenty of restaurants around the square. On August 2021 we enjoyed Eger wine festival. I'm impressed, next day after festival Square were clear. No plastic cups,broken glasses,empty wine bottles. Well done Eger.

The statue and the main square - along with the cathedral - are some of the main attractions in Eger. It’s a short walking distance to the castle through a street of shops. There are restaurants and cafes on the square. Everywhere nearby is paid parking.

It's a very important historian place of Eger in Hungary. The Turkish army tried to attack Eger in the 16th century. Eger is also an important center of the Catholic religion. We call it, the city of monks.

What a lively city. This square has everything, live music, bars, restaurants, fountains. Little cars for children to hire. I could sit here for hours. There was a guy playing Greek music on a mandolin tonight and people were dancing

Beautiful historical basilica. The dome and ceilings are very beautifully painted. Well maintained. I've been to many well known cathedrals and I still think this is pretty impressive - maybe it's just because I still haven't figured out how these master painters paint the domes and ceilings with such perfection...

The cathedral was built between 1831 and 1837 by József Hild, commissioned by Archbishop János László Pyrker. The cathedral is a basilica with three naves. In the middle between the nave and chancel to the east is the transept. The dome of the cathedral, 40 meters above ground, is lavishly decorated. At the rear are the two bell towers. The portal on the eastern porch is designed like a Greek temple. The monumental entrance is decorated with statues of saints: St. Stephen, St. Ladislaus, and Saints Peter and Paul. The facade is supported by Corinthian columns that reach a height of 17 meters.

Under renovation on the outside. Access is possible you just need to find the right door. Inside much is closed off and under wraps for protection from all the dust being generated by the renovation. While a little dark and gloomy on the inside it is worth a visit and you will get a good sense of the cathedral's grandeur.

I can't tell any historical or technical detail about the cathedral. Just being visitor, a passerby. I just liked it. Part is being under reconstruction, some of the paintings are gone or maybe covered by some protective canvas. It's worth visiting. And, entrance is free of charge 👍

Beautiful big cathedral in the centre of the city. And it is free.

Outside the minaret does not appear authentic and was redone with cheap concrete. Inside though was authentic. Due to tight space it can only handle a few people at a time and we were given only 15 minutes Climbing up and down was more challenging than expected. However it provides the best views of the city.

Recommend doing before going to the wine tasting valley! Lots of steps, nice view and history. Inexpensive.

As I am of Turkish origin, I think it's the most fascinating to me, not as a religion but also ruins from the Ottoman Empire after 91 years of living here who are of Turkish origin. Here is the one of the most important minarets left after the Ottoman Empire in Hungary because it is the highest and most well protected. Location was perfectly Central, and 98 steps with 26mt height. It was first time in my life I climbed the minaret as it is not allowed in Turkey (Idk maybe some part of mosques). Even though it was hot, it was an amazing experience to have this opportunity after 4 centuries. As it is my first time climbing there, It was so narrow, I was fit so barely in the balcony and stairs width as well. After all, once I saw the amazing view of Eger, It was Worthy! Happy to see such an amazing, ruins from my ancestry! 🤗🥰🧿

An old Ottoman minaret, you're allowed to get inside and climb all the way to the top. It has a nice view on the city but the climb is difficult and not recommended for people who are afraid of heights or claustrophobic

Well, it's very tall and tight, so I only recommend it to you, if you aren't claustrophobic, or afraid of heights. On the other hand, the view is fantastic, and in my opinion, it's totally worth it to go up to the top. Just make sure that it's not a rainy day, because if the stairs get wet, it will be dangerous to climb!

Loved this sight. Not only a very significant historical landmark but great fun to walk to the top for a view over the city. If you get clostrophobia maybe give it a miss. They are the narrowest stairs I have ever gone up. Then at the top it’s a vertical view down. It’s very cheap also. Only 2 euros

It's very claustrophobic. I usually don't feel bad about this kind of things, but this time I felt bad while going up the tower. I felt like I was about to have a panic attack. Definitely not recommended if you suffer from anxiety about closed spaces or something similar, or even if you don't like the idea of having to climb stairs without the possibility to stop or just go down if you feel unwell.

The best view over the city. 😍 Note that the entry fee can only be paid by cash. 40 m high, 97 steps to go up. It’s so tight, it’s only one way, so if there are people up there you need to wait until they get down but it’s worth the wait. (We only waited 10 minutes, for the previous guys to come down and noone was waiting before us.) Great piece of historic remain from the Turkish occupation time.

It takes 96 steps to reach the top, entrance fee is 700huf. The views are beautiful, you can see the whole city. Be careful, the tower is quite narrow.

It's so tight that you should not bring any backpack. Otherwise wow. Wonderful view to the whole inner city.

Crowdy and dirty. The showers next to the pools didn't work. The tiles were coming away in some places.

Gorgeous strand with botanical trees in a lovely nature.

Like outdoor pools? Well you can't go wrong here. It manages to cater for three distinct groups well. 'Serious' swimmers, who want to get some lengths in. Families, with space for games with the children and slides. And, those who want a 'Spa-like' experience (for the full experience I recommend going to the excellent Turkish Baths next door which include entry to the outdoor facilities). For adults, don't worry, the space is big enough for the raucous activities of children to be away from the more relaxed pools.

With their newly built slides and upgraded facilities this aquapark is a modern, nice place, we had a lot of fun here. It is family friendly, there were a lot of children, but the park was large enough for all. The hot water soaking pools were a blessing. Make sure you look around before buying food, although they are all cheap, some of the food outlets are much better than others.

Spent two days here with the family - tis a great place to go, lots of warm pools great price - couple of places to eat on site too or take a picnic - it will be worth it, as a good day can be spent here. Only negative is that been here two years on the trot and central feature in kids pool is still closed?

Great place to splash in the water in the middle of Eger. No 5 stars because there is no restrictions on the number of visitors, so summer and spring weekends are too crowded, making the experience not as perfect as it could be.

A lot of various places to relax and have a bath including a medical baths, swimming pool and amenities for children. All of these for fair price. Could really recommend.
