Historic, well maintained lighthouse. Definitely worth a visit to the museum and lighthouse from the outside. Great views of the coast from the lighthouse grounds and the museum was nice. The line to enter the lighthouse (and climb to the top) was pretty long (over 30 min wait on weekends)…standing outside in April was very cold and windy! Not sure it was worth the wait & cost to take the 5 min trip up to the top of the light house.

This is a beautiful area and will be even nicer when they finish renovations. Walking around the rocks dropped to protect the shoreline offers great views of both the ocean and the lighthouse. I did not pay the fee to enter the lighthouse this time. I've toured many years ago and it was beautiful, but $13 admission seemed like a lot this time.

Montauk Point Lighthouse Museum is a must visit when visiting Long Island New York. You can walk around the light house grounds for a fee. Surrounding the place are different hiking areas. The best time to visit is summer and Spring.

Beautiful drive down to the lighthouse. We had quite a group with elementary-aged kids, but we were impressed at the museum and being able to walk up the lighthouse and around the property. There are lots of friendly staff to answer any questions and are knowledgeable about the history of the lighthouse. As a history fanatic, it was cool to see their artifacts. Go on a clear day to take advantage of the views across the sound. We went on a windy, overcast day, but lucked out when the sky cleared as we emerged from the top of the white house. There is a restroom for customers at the gift shop.

A must see Historical Landmark. I love light houses. This was an amazing surprise and a moment that i will always treasure. Prepare for long drive so bring snacks and not too much juice for the kiddos. Only one long road in and out. However well worth the trip. Beautiful photo taking places.

Well organized lighthouse touring. Over 130 steps to the top with a great view pays back. Worth to try it yourself. The oldest lighthouse in NY and its still working condition.

The view from the Montauk Lighthouse is absolutely breathtaking! I have always loved this place. The grounds around the lighthouse are well-maintained and perfect for a picnic or a relaxing walk. Overall, it's a great spot for a family outing!

So I think they’ve recently commercialized this little montauk gem. I came years ago and it was a lot less crowded and there was no line to climb to the top of the tower. Wait times can be more than 45m. I prefer skipping that part and walking around toward the beach. They however will charge you to enter the lighthouse whether you intend to climb or not. Included in this new price is the chance to visit the museum and a very small interactive aquarium. ( not worth the price). Not included in the price is the $8 for parking. Instead, you should aim for after 4pm; Parking is free, and you can see the lighthouse from a distance without going on the grounds. Still very monumental. If you’ve never been, aim to come early to beat the crowd. The beach is ENCHANTING!!!! so picturesque and mesmerizing. Definitely worth visiting. That part is free. Not for swimming; the waves are pretty rough and dangerous. But you can walk your dog, bring a picnic, walk alongside the beach, hike one of their many trails inland, or climb a few boulders. Well worth the photo ops! We visit every year.

The Montauk Point Lighthouse Museum is a fun place to visit. Lots of historical displays and history about the point, the lighthouse, and the Fresnel lenses. Also the climb up into the lighthouse is well worth it but you have to be steady on your feet and be able to follow their directions about going up and down the stairs since it's a tight fit. View is gorgeous but it's one person at a time. Great visit and world def recommend.

I love going to Montauk especially before season officially starts. Less people and no charge to get into park. Love seeing all the mansions and old houses. Such traditions and legacies there.

Enjoyed the ride up to visit Montauk! We arrived at 4 and everything was closed already so we don’t have experience at the museum. There was still time to walk the beach. There looks like there was somewhere to eat here but it is closed. We were traveling in April. There is construction going on. 🚧

I made it a point to drive to the end of Long Island to Montauk Point! I didn’t find any Montauk monsters but instead discovered a gorgeous lighthouse which you can climb to the top for $15. Its worth the climb to see the interiors of the lighthouse. If only it wasn’t so far away! I do think the $8 parking was a rip off at this desolate location.

A beautifully maintained lighthouse and museum. Parking during the day is $8 per vehicle. Adult tickets to the actual lighthouse/museum are $15 each, but you can see it from afar if you choose and there's still plenty to see, like the beach and the hillside walking paths. Heads up for military/veterans - with ID, you'll get in free for you and your party. You can go up to the top of the lighthouse, but I don't think you're allowed to walk all the way around, just step out onto the walkway and then back inside (my guess is the railing is not tall enough to be safe). There was a line at the time, so I didn't go up. The museum had cool history of the lighthouse, including how it's been maintained, what was there before the lighthouse, the network of lighthouses in the bay, and how the shoreline has been bolstered over the last 200 years. Plus you can see displays of the big ol' lightbulbs, which I really enjoy due to the nearly absurd size of them. Worth going once, just to say you've been to the very end of Long Island.

This is a cool landmark to check out. It is the eastern most point of the United States. The lighthouse museum is very historic with a very rich heritage. I’m a big history buff and love coming here. In the summer I usually come here before I head over to montauk beaches(Edison)

The value you get from this lighthouse is less about history and more with the fact that you visited the eastern tip of the continental United States. The lighthouse looks literally like something out of a postcard (see the pictures) and it carries the test of time with its bricks and walls. It is absolutely classy and perfect for a date hike. The views are great all around and if time permits, I highly recommend you take a stroll down to the adjacent beach. The tower itself is a single file passage and it does feel a bit claustrophobic, and yes, the view is great but you don't get to enjoy it because there'll be a long line in a single file waiting for you to get out. We visited in late fall during Thanksgiving and the drive towards Montauk Point was also quite a beauty. The endless colorful fall leaves that carpeted both above and the sides of the road was a scene to behold. Make sure to visit towards sunset. Although it is the eastern tip so you won't be seeing sunset into the horizon of the ocean, you'll absolutely enjoy orange skies towards the land, and the drive back will be absolutely phenomenal.

Beautiful place to visit with your friends and family. Make sure to have your fishing and surfing permits before coming. Great food spots around the light house.

Fun place to drive to and see the lighthouse. Went here during a windy winter day just to get a look. Even though it was freezing, I loved the lighthouse and the other stuff.

At the end of Long Island. Very friendly stuff. Little museum with nice history. The tower is an interessting spot to go up. Absolutely worth the trip.

It is a tourist attraction and part of history (First lighthouse in NY) so I am confused with people complaining about it being crowded (Duh). There is plenty of information and items on display. Admission is $15 and there is a seniors discount. This is in addition to the $8 in parking. It can get very windy. 137 steps on a spiral staircase to get to the top which on a nice day offers spectacular views. Interactive virtual aquarium for the kids as well.

It’s a stunning place to visit and unwind. The museum opens at 10.30 am, and adult tickets cost $15. Children under 42” in height cannot enter the lighthouse but can enjoy free admission to the museum. If you plan to visit the lighthouse, I recommend going early because there tends to be a long line. My daughter particularly enjoyed the underwater interactive session.

Visited the lighthouse at labor day with family. The ticket was$15 for adults and $5 for kids, and it is totally worth it. As long as you are willing to wait for somewhat half an hour-ish, you can enter the lighthouse and go all the way to the top. The view is magnificent. You will know it when you see the entire Montauk beneath you.

I rate restaurants both on their customer service and food. Upon arrival I explained it was our anniversary and we were not in a hurry. I stated we wanted to have a very good view and would wait. I also stated we wanted to sit on the deck. The host said he understood. He also said we could order drinks at the bar. We went to the bar to get drinks. I explained my allergies. The bartender couldn’t have been less interested. The drinks available were very limited. She assured me what I ordered was fine. So when we were called to be seated, we were placed at a table for two and an obstructed view. This is because there was a table in front of us. Not five minutes later another couple was seated at a table right next to the water, which is what I asked for and stated I was willing to wait. My picture of the table for two is where two people were sitting. I took the photo after they left. As I was on about my 3/5 sip of my drink my tongue and throat started tingling. I explained to the waitress what happened. She took it away and brought the drink menu. However, I was charged for both drinks. The food was good. I really liked the tuna. My husband was not as impressed by his choice, the surf and turf. For the price of this restaurant, I except someone to listen to me when I speak to them, to check in on how I am doing before I have finished my meal, and not to charge for a replacement drink. People seem to love this restaurant. Maybe I just expect more in this price range.

Fantastic place to eat on Labor Day! We were visiting Montauk from Queens and wanted to grab lunch. Parking is free and huge! The restaurant is right next to the dock and the harbor. We went about 40 mins after opening and it was decently packed. We were seated outdoors and it was a very pleasant day for eating. We ordered Gosman’s surf and turf, twin lobster tails, fish and chips and shrimp basket. He seafood was really fresh and the quality was great. The steak was cooked to my liking and it was tender. Lobsters were a bit on the chewy side. The shrimps and the fish were very fresh and we enjoyed it. Overall, the experience was pleasant and the waitress was friendly. Would love to come back when we venture back to Montauk!

Me and my wife showed up without a reservation. The restaurant was pretty empty and we requested a table by the water inside. We went to the bar and waited an hour before I approached the hostess and asked about our seating. She took me into the dining room and explained that there were no 2 seating tables available. At that time, I observed multiple four and five seating tables empty. I inquired why we couldn't sit at those tables and she said NO because we are a party of 2. We were so outraged of the lack of flexibility in seating people in a restaurant that was practically empty. I would not recommend Gosmans restaurant to anybody. There are plenty of small non-commercial restaurants around that have better service and better food.

Place to go ! Location is really great - you can boats entering and leaving the port. I like it. Food scene, it was delicious ! cooked as expected, Lobster tail and the filet mignon was delicious ! the crab cake was full of flavors and the sauce was perfumed as I like ! great burger as well ! We had red sangria - it was okay i will go back for sure ! i recommend !

Gave this another try (as a seasonal resident) and was once again disappointed by the kitchen, bar, and ambience. Inadequate wine list. Chowder was fine. Stuffed clams were dense with breadcrumbs and low on flavor and clam. Calamari were tiny, deep fried in cheap oil and generic breadcrumbs. Stuffed broiled lobster was dry and there was more tamari and lobster egg than seafood stuffing. The seafood stuffing was primarily wet breadcrumbs. The dry lobster knuckles didn’t come cracked. French fries were soggy and tasted like frozen grocery store ones. Perhaps it is better during peak time, as we dined on a Monday at 830pm. I much prefer upstairs to Gosman’s Topside for better prepared food.

The food is good and the scenery is nice but the prices are ridiculous. They charged $17 for a kids chicken tenders. I’ve never paid so much for a kids meal. They also charged me $3 for ice for my alcohol. The waitress said that’s standard in Montauk. What?!

Such a nice cozy restaurant with great dishes and nice service! I loved their outdoor seating, they had good shaded area for seating. I chose the fish (can't remember which one it was) and it was really delicious. For someone who might not like lobster that much, this restaurant's menu is mainly consist of lobster dishes. Know that before going there. Overall it was such a nice experience dining in this restaurant.

Me and my family were wondering where to eat until we can across Gosman’s Restaurant. The service were amazing and the food couldn’t be worse. The view was also amazing and I really want to come back another time. The only downside is waiting for your food and the wind but and the end it’s all worth it or just bring a jacket.

This restaurant holds a monopoly stake in the dining scene of Montauk. Pretty much anyone who has ever visited the town has dined here, and for good reason. The views are spectacular. You are dining right on the water. The menu features an abundant selection of lobster. The waiting area is a wooden pier with lots of seating, with tables to drink at while you wait. So why the one star off? It’s because you’re truly paying for the experience. The wait is usually at least 20 min. The prices are expensive for the portion size - if you don’t order dessert, you won’t be full. The service, although friendly, is overwhelmed. Is it worth going? Yes, at least once. But if you’re a local, this probably wouldn’t be a place you come to regularly except for special occasions.

I love food! So I am a wannabe food critic! LOL. The crab cheese dip did not taste like it had crab in it, and I didn't see any either, so that was disappointing. But the stuffed clams were delicious with the crab and some bacon! Umm, mmm. The view is great from their deck and the staff was very attentive. I would go back and try a dinner, but we just stopped in for a snack. Oh, and the Bloody Mary's are highly recommended!

Great view but the food was rather mediocre and priced typical for a busy touristy spot. Mussels were over cooked and had barely flavors. Fried Calamari was far from crispy. The fish and chips were decent.

I've been visiting Montauk for many years. Gosmans is always a consistently great experience. Love the food and views.

Had high hopes coming to this restaurant. They have a great location with great views. However the food was not up to par. I ordered a twin lobster which was extremely dry. Anyone looking for real good seafood I'd look elsewhere. I also got the lobster bisque it came in a coffee mug and had no chunks in the bisque just broth. The roasted lemon chicken was pretty decent however. Just not somewhere I’d ever go for seafood. Bisque should have been an automatic red flag for what was to come.

Great place to visit. Amazing views of the ocean and the lighthouse. We come here at least once a year since we live on Long Island. This time we hung out just below the top parking lot where there are picnic tables and BBQ pits. Very relaxing.

The best time to visit is during the spring or the winter months, knowing not many people around and plenty of parking spots. Road leading to this park has improved over the years. Restrooms at the lighthouse are very clean. I am not sure why swings are removed.

Amazing place to visit. It is definitely worth the drive. The views are breath taking and your pictures will come out spectacular. The entrance fee is $12 dollars or free if you're active or retired military. Additionally, active and retired military get 10% off at the gift shop.. NOTE: Make sure that you bring plenty of bug spray! (OR just wear long pants. The flies are aggressive!)

Montauk State Park and the lighthouse are worth the drive. This trip is during the winter, so most of the stores and restaurants are closed for the season, however the horrific traffic through the Hamptons and other towns on the way out east was very light. The summer months will add an extra couple hours of travel time but the restaurants and shops are very nice to shop and frequent. The beaches are very nice to walk on and to sit and watch the waves break. Take a ride out and check out the sights, you will not be disappointed.

We got there after it closed but it was still worth the ride. We watched some surfers for a bit. I wonder what the guard tower in front of the lighthouse is for. It’s a beautiful lighthouse and lovely park with walking trails to the water.

At first we got lost but you can access the beach for fishing with a permit of course. Great trail for hiking as well. Can stay wet even few days after rainy days.

Lighthouse was closed (Christmas holiday) but we were able to walk around on the paths a bit and get a great view of the lighthouse decorated for the holidays. We really enjoyed the views and the ride.

northernmost tip of long island, definitely worth the trip! vast sea surrounds you on all 3 sides, and the lovely lighthouse stands just at the edge surrounded by mossy rocks. bummed that we missed the 4pm cutoff for touring inside, but the free coastline more than made up for it.

I love going in the off season. I know that's not popular for out of towners that want the full experience as many things are closed. But I like the calm and no crowd.

Nice location. It's a long drive out here. Nice history. Some short nature trails lead out to the ocean. Relatively easy rockhop around the entire lighthouse, which doesn't require any entrance fee, but also doesn't gain access to the grounds around the lighthouse.

A nice park which features the Montauk Lighthouse and Museum. We were able to take a stroll on to the beach and we walked on the rocks to get a good view of the bluffs, ocean and Lighthouse. Although the day was cloudy we were able to get great pics. This park is nice to walk and share with a loved one or friends.

Took the day off and drove out on a 50 degree February day as my son had been asking me to take him out to Montauk. We saw the lighthouse that is currently being renovated and walked around the rocks and trails. It was a nice day.

Excellent New York state park that has great views and the lighthouse museum. You pay for pairing which is also good for Camp Hero so keep the receipt. The lighthouse and museum are just across the road from the parking lot. There are many trails in the combined park areas so a good place for a hike if that's of interest. Great way to get away from the Hamptons.

Great place for families and especially young kids to make the most out of summer. It can be very loud at night but the park rangers do their best to keep rowdy crowds at bay. In addition to a wonderful location on the beach there are daily crafts and softball games. If you bring kids, bikes are a must

Awesome camp site! The beach is steps away, and you're 5 mins from town where you can pick up anything you need. They also have showers, lockers and a great playground for the kids.

Genie helped us check in and was INCREDIBLE. She was so kind and friendly and helped us get situated once we arrived. We were new to the campground and she helped us with how to set up our fire as well. She really made our whole experience 100x better. Thank you Genie!! -J12

Great for a day tripper or overnighter. I was on the Southside, beach area of the park, there are trails that lead to the north side, bay area of the park. . Park has picnic areas, restrooms and firepits. You can swim and fish. Beach has lifeguards. There's a kids playground and over 150 campground sites. There looked to be a general store onsite. Did not go in but it was open.

Incredible beach! $10 daily fee as of July 2022; Empire Pass gets you in free. The sand is beautiful and soft, not rocky. The water is cold and has waves big enough for kids to splash in and get soaked without needing to worry much. We spent three hours with a three year old and two year old on the beach and loved it. You can’t do ANYTHING for three hours with kids that age! 😂

Love this park and the beach here. 1 security guard ruins it every year. Bothered us more then we want to be when on vacation. I got a "Faliure to comply " paper on my windshield... amd he Knocked on camper door at 10 pm amd 5 am to near by campers to tell them no generators at that time.. the rest of security is great..

Beautiful beach, nice quality sand, and facilities. Great post beach clean up amenities: outdoor showers, hot water inside showers. We had some dramatic clouds roll in just as we were leaving. $10 parking fee. Please respect and preserve this gem. Will definitely return!

Not so far from Hamptons and Montauk. We need more phone chargers. Toilets and showers are ok. And the most beautiful part of it - the ocean 🌊. No dogs allowed.

I've never been here in summertime, but the fall is quiet and lovely. Bathroom facilities are clean and the campsites are small but how can you beat the location?

This was my first time camping and I was very pleased. It was clean and quiet. The restrooms were clean, and the park was good enough for the kiddos.

The perfect camping beachside experience in Long Island. Extremely large campsites, beautiful beach, camp general store with hot food and the newer bathrooms (on one side of campground) are clean, spacious, and the best campsite bathrooms I’ve ever seen! The only negative was the check in process which was a little disorganized with people leaving their campers on the road and walking to the office to sign in, so be prepared. This was early in the season and I imaging it gets worse. Check in was three and they didn’t let people check in before 2:45.

Hither hills campground. I have to say one of the best bathrooms I've ever seen at a campground. They also have family bathrooms and super large showers 😜.No pull string water control is the best. There's a nice size playground for the kids or big adults. All the sites are back in. There is no privacy between sites and every site is completely open.Everyone is very friendly. They actually have a general store that sells beer. They sell wood at the main office $7 a bundle. It was worth it . On the back side of the main office building they have air fill up the station. If you're coming back from wheeling this is nice. From where we camped we were literally on the other side of the dune to the beach. There are no hookups so you have to be self-contained. There are water spickets around the campgrounds. So if you do pick a site that is close to one of these water stations you might get some extra foot traffic near your site. Something to think about when choosing a spot. We really had a great time and you're only 10 minutes away from town which was also very nice. We will definitely be returning.

Very friendly guard. Passing by and walked around and enjoyed a lot to see the people with family, friends, in the great nature by the beautiful ocean. Wonderful camping place.

This State Park had some nice trails. Just recently went on Saturday and the weather was nice. Parking is off to the side of the road by a lookout which was nice. You can take one of the trails to the beach which is very nice.

You can spend hours looking at the beautiful rocks on this not-too-crowded public beach. Great parking, bathrooms on site, and pet friendly. It is a must-see if you are in the area.

Beautiful as far as the eye can see from every direction. Amazing place for a light walk along a trail . Or a sit down by the oceanside. If you like hiking and climbing, this spot is perfect . Oh, and watch out for ticks !!! I'm definitely gearing up on tick and mosquito repellent next time I visit..

If you’re a surfer or in need of a good (windy) beach walk, then this would definitely get more stars from me. I’ve only given it three in terms of family friendly clean white sands which this beach isn’t as good for compared to lower down the cost. There’s quite a few stones on the beach at high tide. It offers a comfort station (not open yet) and some parking. Kids enjoyed small dune jumping where permitted at the back of the beach.

Montauk's best beach. The top hangout for anyone looking for surfing near the Hamptons. Offers beautiful views and a long stretch of beach to walk or lounge. Usually windy, hence the excellent surfing conditions, so typically doesn't disappoint the crowds.

Quiet. Cozy. Tranquil. We were here May 20-22 and it was the perfect beach to relax, read, watch surfers, or be with your thoughts. Its a bit rocky so beach chairs are recommended.

We love photographing around Montauk, especially weddings at Camp Hero! There are endless possibilities for creative photography - but each time we go, we end up with stunning images. All the residents and parkgoers are so sweet, too. Keep in mind that it can definitely get a little windy!

A cool spot to check out when in the Montauk area. This park offers a nice area to hike from the seaside cliffs to the abandoned radio tower, there is plenty of cool things to check out. A recommend bringing bug spray.

This was for me is a quick in and out type of visit. Yet another must do in the area. If you paid to park at Montauk Lighthouse it is free! There are paths to follow for incredible views. A staff member at the lighthouse told me it was his favorite view of the lighthouse. I saw one guy fishing down below. A local will have to guide you on that. There are signs everywhere warning you to stay away from the edges. I went in, stayed on the paths, enjoyed God’s creation, and then we were on our way. The same helpful gentleman at the lighthouse, as well as many others, warned against the tics off the paths.

This is the best park and place I ever went! I been her two times already and its mind blowing every time I go to the park and the Bluffs! I hight recommend this public park if you love the outdoors and the mysterious strange places that have such history!

This is a must stop before you head out to the Montauk Lighthouse! You can see the Lighthouse from the distance but the best part is the trail along the shoreline. Amazing views of the North Atlantic Ocean!❤️

One of the best places to hike on long island winter, spring, summer or fall! From the radar dish to the lighthouse, to seal haul out and back to radar you get so many great views and trail types. The cliffs along the south shore are not to be missed

I try to get here once a year. It's a beautiful park. Great dog walking park. It can be stroller friendly, if you have a large wheeled jogging stroller. Though, I don't recommend you bring strollers, unless you stay on the roads and flat trails. If you're planning on walking through the sand trails or small wooded trails you'll have a tough time. The area is beautiful and you'll learn a lot about the history of Camp Hero if you stop and read the plaques in the barracks.

I had a great hike with my dad all throughout camp hero, camp hero sanctuary and to the lighthouse. We found bunkers hidden in the woods of course sealed off. It would be amazing to open 1 up just to see what it looked like back then. We walked all over camp hero and the sanctuary. It was a great day and can't wait to come out here again. The bowling alley must have only been 2 lanes at best if you can find it.

Awesome spot for a hike. Use a trail map app for better navigation. My dogs love the walks and views there!!! Restrooms can be found near picnic areas.

Listening to a podcast and learning about the wild and sordid past of this former military base that inspired the show Stranger Things makes the trip so much more interesting and enjoyable. Plenty of trails to hike, wildlife to see, and photo ops galore. You can't access the old military buildings, but you can walk right up to them and peep in some of the holes no doubt made by curious visitors. The lighthouse is currently being renovated, so the lovely view of it is littered with cranes and heavy equipment. No doubt it will look wonderful when it is finished! Look for the maps so you don't miss anything. The tower, barracks, bunkers and bluffs are all in different areas. Lots of picnic tables and plenty of spots to stop and rest. Careful for ticks in the wooded areas!
