What an impressive building - the 23 carat gold leafed done is perfect in the sunlight. And the view of the river in front sets it off well. Visit the Archives/Museum ( their gift shop has terrific articles and food made in WV)

Small, but attractive building that is worthwhile seeing. Tours are brief and must be scheduled a day in advance, so be mindful of that if you plan a visit and want to be escorted. Self guided tours are available as well and you can observe the House and Senate when they are in session. Helpful and courteous employees.

Beautiful building and grounds. Came an hour before closing time on a weeknight, and hardly anybody was present. Got to explore and learn pretty much by ourselves.

Parking and then finding a way into the capitol was not fun. Many entrances were closed to construction or security when we visited. Finally inside, we join a tour group already started. I've seen many incredible capitols (Mississippi for example) and WV just rubbed me the wrong way. It's the 5th(?) capitol built in WV and very, very "high-end" with imported crystal chandeliers from the Czech republic and millions of dollars worth of marble. For all that it feels like an empty grand ballroom, more functional than lovely. A very expensive monument for a part-time legislature.

I visited on a Saturday, so parking was easy and there weren't a lot of people around. The building is very nice, but the rotunda was off-limits due to some construction.

Beautiful place and wasn’t crowded. Got to meet Riley Moore the state treasurer and was friendly and helpful. They have parking meters close but so it isn’t to far of a walk especially for small children.

The Capitol complex and the surrounding monuments are spectacular. However, if you travel to the Capitol via the West Virginia turnpike, be prepared for West Virginia’s legalized highway robbery. There are two separate toll stops within 40 miles of each other that rip you off at $4.25 a pop ($8.50 total). With the cost of gas being what it is, this is outrageous and enough of a deterrent for me to forgo stopping anywhere else in West Virginia, and hence preventing any of the Charlatans that occupy that gold-plated Capitol getting another dime out of my pocket. I am usually not this fired up by highway construction or delays, but this was nothing but a ripoff. Attached are a few pics taken at the WV Capitol that you won’t see on their website.

Beautiful building and grounds. Make sure your camera battery is full and your memory card is empty, a lot of great photos to take here. Don't stop at the outside, spend a few minutes inside as well and tour the Governor's Residence if able.

MUST SEE!!! 10/10!!! By far my favorite part of the downtown West Virginia capital area! Open to the public as an amazing completely free museum. Even my teenage daughter put her phone down to read and explore the museum! Plan to spend at least 2 hours to just do the basic walk around. But could easily spend a whole day here!

This is an absolute must-see in the capitol This is located in Charleston, West Virginia. It is in the lower level of the Museum building across the sidewalk from the State capitol on the West Virginia State Capitol Complex. Parking for this can be found either on a nearby street or in the metered parking to the northeast that is part of the complex. The museum is a marble building with a large open entryway/atrium that is beautiful. There are escalators to either side of the information desk in the center. The left-hand one will take you downstairs. The museum takes up most of the bottom floor. You can walk through the wonderfully descriptive parts of the museum that takes you through the various parts of the state history. It starts with the prehistoric era to describe how the area came to be and the other portions describe various historical eras and then focus on the most recent centuries. I really liked the coal mine recreation. As you leave, the other escalator takes you back up to the main floor. Please be sure to check out the gift shop on the way out. This site is a must-see for anyone in the area.

Sadly, the museum was closed. It was not posted anywhere on line. But they are closed Sundays and Mondays. I was redirected to the State Capitol building, which is beautiful and quite different from other State Capitol buildings. Outside the Capitol is a well designed and interesting Veterans Memorial. Everywhere you turn in West Virginia you see Mountains.

This is a beautiful museum with a thoughtful presentation of a wide range of artifacts. One needs about two hours to fully relish the selections. A shop within the building offers a decent assortment of souvenirs.

Informative state museum. I stopped on a recent road trip, wanting to learn more about the state. I wasn't disappointed. I would definitely recommend spending an entire day if you want to go thru the museum and read/visit all the exhibits, as well as checking out the capitol next door. I only dedicated a few hours and had other plans later in the day, so I felt rushed.

I would give this place 10 stars if I could!! Stopped to visit the capital building first and it was impressive as well. But I really enjoyed the setup of the state museum. They start you back from way in the very beginning of time and work you all the way to the present day. The detail and thought that went i to this is impressive. Unfortunately my time was limited as I had a full day planned. This place is easily 4 hours or more to really take time to read the stuff. Trust me, come here, you'll be impressed. And it's FREE!!

While some of the history paints a rosier picture than natives or slaves would, the museum is thorough and extensive. We thought giving ourselves 2 hours was enough time, but we were wrong! Tons of interesting people, artifacts, and history in captivating displays. I learned a ton and would definitely go back to see what I missed when we had to rush out because it was closing time. (Also had an amazing quilt display at the entrance - wow!)

This was a great museum. We have been traveling around to visit all of the state museums and this was one of my favorites. The displays are really interesting and well done. There is an elevator and large open rooms for those that need accessible areas. I was easily able to navigate it with my electric scooter. On the first floor there is a one room family/handicap bathroom which was super easy to get in and out of. I wish they had one on each floor. The remaining floor had standard bathrooms with stalls. There is also a cafe with prepackaged sandwiches and snacks. They also have coffee and coffee drinks. I enjoyed my ham sandwich and these unique potato chips with Indian spices. Parking was straightforward and easily accessible. I would certainly revisit again.

Was very impressed. We spent quite a lot of time here and still did not get to see everything. The layout adds to the experience. Definitely worth checking out. If you enjoy museums at all plan on at least a half a day. However since it is free you can still stop in if you only have an hour.

Exquisite museum with so much history of our wonderful state! A must visit for all ages! Gift shop as well! all WV items! They will be decorating for Christmas very soon! Thanksgiving weekend!

The highlight of our visit to the Capitol. So much well curated and laid out exhibits, made for a complete and immersive experience - from coal mining, to labor, to music, and much more. The gift shop is well stocked with quality and many locally sourced items. The museum’s annual quilt show before Labor Day is one of many highlights during the year. Arguably the most informative stop of the Capitol city. Well worth it.

I've been through my share of museums and then some, and this is one of the most enjoyable museums I've been in! It's a nice all around experience from the floor to the ceiling and the all around sound were great! We got there late, but I really want to go back and see everything again!

This is certainly the best museum I have ever been to. The exhibits told a chronological story as you walked through. It was so nicely done. Worth traveling to see.

Love the capitol flea market. There’s so many great shops to eat and try diff things. Gift shops and not to mention get fresh farm grown produce from grits farm and tons of beautiful flowers. Always enjoy walking around looking at all the pretty flowers

This review is for the Sushi Garden. I think this is one of the best options to eat a quick lunch in the area. The selection is huge and you can compliment your meal here with other additions around the market. It’s better to let it set to reach room temperature in my opinion but it’s good either way. The staff is friendly as well. When paying you have to pay attention when leaving a tip because sometimes you can’t and cancels the transaction if you use a certain type of card. But definitely a better way to get more bang for your buck when other places cost 10 dollars plus for 4 pieces!

Great place. Free parking where we were able to park our 24 foot rv. The indoor area has lots of places to eat from sit down restaurant to meat Market, coffee shop, and more. We ate at Johnnie's Fresh Meats where you can buy meats or order as a deli. We ordered Philly Burger and Italian Sandwich. That plus a drink was $21.87 with tax. All was good except that the burger would be much better with more bell peppers. The large outdoor (covered) area of the market had fruit, veggies, and ice cream vendors.

Impressive market place. The building is clean, easy to find, and well-organized. We visited the Capitol Market on the event day. The event was well organized. There are a lot of people but it is not too crowded. The place is spread out for vendors to set up their products and display stuff comfortably. Food vendors are both inside and outside the building. That make it very easy for people and vendors to find things to eat. They offer variety kinds of food from Asian to American cuisines, including many local alcohol drinks.

One of my favorite places in Charleston. Great both inside and out. Amazing ice cream from a local favorite, Ellen’s Ice Cream. The friendliest people with great vendors. You can find tons of local products from all over West Virginia inside.

Pretty cool place (s). Will come back when market is in season more. Lots of cool finds. Organic food and different areas. Fresh meats and wine. Chocolates. So many things. Very clean.

We have been coming to Capitol Market for the past two decades when driving between homes. Pricing is a bit up but if you consider you are in the Capitol and the cost of rent then it makes sense. The outdoor farmers market is where prices normalize, and the quality of the fruits and vegetables are very high. Parking is a bit whack on weekends, but we've always found a spot. On nice days you can sit outside on the porch and watch the goings-on at the farmers market.

Great place to sell your flowers or vegetables, they have reasonable prices compared to other places such as Walmart. Great place to have lunch, so many colors to see, I recommend the fish place for fish a sandwich, the best fish sandwich I ever had. Just bought a hot banana plant.

Great place for flowering plants in the spring, and fresh produce all summer. Have never left without something good.

We moved to the Charleston area about a month ago. I wasn't familiar with the area and needed to find fresh garden produce, especially tomatoes!! Capital Market has it all!! They have inside booths that have chocolate, spices, wine 🍷 and even yummy places eat, or have an iced tea and cool off. Outside, there's all kinds of produce and plants for house or landscaping! I was delighted with the choices and prices!!The vendors are friendly and helpful. We've been back several times....and we'll be back again!

Unique finds in this great local market. Loved walking around and talking to different vendors about their products. Family friendly beautiful atmosphere. Lots of local items to purchase as well!

So cool! Somewhat reminiscent of Findlay Market in Cincinnati, just a bit smaller and more focused on some very specific things. Loved all the fresh flowers and produce happening this time of year!

Perfectly close to the interstate-downtown and uptown shopping! Elevated Bridge Road Shoppes and shopping minutes away as well! All funds spent here go toward the longevity of the market itself! Visited while on vacation heading to New River Gorge area. Picked up some nice cheeses 🧀 to sample in our cabin at Babcock SP. Great market with everything from spices, meats, wines, seafood, and cheese. Outside were mums, pumpkins 🎃 and all sorts of fresh vegetables and fruits, lots of apples 🍎 😋. Easy parking, and it appears a school was visiting as we left, kids were excited about the pumpkins 🎃 I think 🤔 😀

The water stations were mostly down and not nearly as big as they make it seem. Definitely room for improvement there. The downtown scene was so much fun for our two year old. He loved “grocery shopping” and being the “mechanic”. There’s a small craft area on floor 3 that was cute. No cafeteria yet making it inconvenient.

I have only worked here once for the Jesus Christ Superstar show; but overall I had a good time. It's floor layout is simple so it's hard to get lost, they obviously host fun and memorable events, and the ambiance is very light and gives happy go lucky vibes. P.S.- I apologize for my 2 not so good pictures, generally I try to take 1 at the start of setting up and another when we finish, but this show was very fast paced so I didn't get a lot of chances to capture the "Theater Magic"

All I can say is that this place is absolutely amazing! The kids loved every single minute we were there! They didn’t want to even sit still to eat lunch! Lol! We packed a lunch and ate in the cafeteria area. We saw a movie in the theater. Sit in the back if you go. My neck was sore & I sat in the front. Lol! I kept looking up & around. The back row seats are the best view. Take your kids & enjoy all day!

Amazing interactive experience for adults and children. Planetarium offered great shows. Clean property, great staff customer service.

Great venue for intimate shows! Parking is good. Well lit and very safe. Gorgeous auditorium and fantastic acoustics! Kind staff and very accommodating!

Great museum for younger kids. There are a lot of different exhibits and everyis interactive. My 8 year old's favorite thing was the 3-story climbing sculpture. The younger kids loved the fire truck.

My son is on the spectrum and it's been a struggle to find a place that he was comfortable and felt safe enough to fully immerse himself into playing full throttle without holding back or getting deterred from letting lose. This place was beyond what I expected and the staff was so understanding and patient with us. It made the whole experience an answered prayer!!. I'm thankful for this memory with my son, tears of happinesses were most definitely shed. WE WILL BE BACK SOON AS WE CAN!!

I love this place so much. My daughter and I had a blast here so has my boys, they have alot available today they had crafts! Invention center was spectacular, the girls really make you feel welcome.

Might be good for children but they don’t make it clear that it is good for anyone else. The last show at the planetarium had already started, which they didn’t tell us about until after we bought the ticket. They didn’t refund us once we realized the place was only good for children and the planetarium was closed. Tickets were also expensive at $12 for an adult.

We came today to take part in the Tinker Toy class every Friday. Today's class was on dinosaurs. They read a book, had a counting activity with dinosaur footsteps, and sensory activity finding dinosaurs. We also met a friend to play, go to the planetarium, and check out the new dinosaur exhibit. All of the areas were pretty well kept up with besides the music section that we love doing. The room with the drums and percussion instruments was closed. We were in love with the fire truck for the longest time. We had fun in the art gallery doing the children's activity that they have to the left. And of course the new dinosaur section was amazing! We had fun climbing the Ashton Climbing Structure towards the end of our visit also.

The mall definitely has been in the decline. It could be a rather popular place, but sadly it isn’t. They still have several good restaurants left and a few stores. It’s far from what it used to be when I was growing up. Hopefully it’ll take a turn, but it’s definitely not the mall to go to anymore.

There's not really a whole lot going on here. You could come here to see a nice selection of drywall covering up all of the empty stores. It's a shame that they can't figure out a way to make this a viable place. It would be nice to at least see it turned into office spaces or doctor's offices or something. The only thing that really brings people in are the restaurants at the end of the mall and up in the food court.

Very clean and love the art all over the walls that show other WV destinations. Not too crowded when we went which was awesome. Only reason it gets 4 instead of 5 is because it's a huge mall but not enough stores. We were able to walk through and do some shopping in about an hour and a half which seemed short for such a large mall.

It’s representative of the rest of the state, sadly. I hate to see it the way it is. This mall has so much potential. It’s in the biggest city in the state and has the novelty of being the largest downtown mall on this side of the country, but the owners do nothing to promote it among West Virginians. No marketing campaigns. No new businesses. Only losses. I hope we don’t lose it altogether. I hope someone or something new is somehow able to breathe new life into it. It needs it.

A blast from the past! Not a whole lot of these malls left. It reminds me of the early 2000’s. You pay for parking, but stay as long as you like, three levels, they also have a little WVa music hall of fame. Fun way to kill an hour!

I love coming to the Charleston Town Center, the places this place takes my mind to. It’s amazing

All around liked the mall!! Went into Champs and the gentleman was super nice /friendly, the young lady on the other hand was rude when I greated her and when I spoke to her she acted like I was talking a foreign language. I took a photo of a shoe I wanted to buy but because of the attitude I left without my purchase.

Very clean mall with a great West Virginia themed vibe. Unfortunately, like many malls in the state, it has lost a lot of the retail stores and businesses that it once had. The food court was nice with plenty of choices, and the restaurants downstairs offer good food variety. Fine, if you are looking for some basic adult clothing items or somewhere to browse a while but not the best if you are looking for a varied place to shop.

Had a crazy time here on Black Friday!! The stores are decent but there are not that many. The food court isn't very diverse in its options. Also as a P.S.A. always go with your kids to the bathroom!! I went into the restrooms near the food court and there was a weird guy in the men's bathroom so I went into the stall furthest away from him. He moved a stall over and then I looked down and he was sticking his phone down below the barrier trying to take a photo. I told security and gave them a description. They were very cooperative and tried to do what they could. I don't fault the facility though. I didn't really feel unsafe I just felt super uncomfortable. If you see something, say something!

They need to lower prices to rent space in the mall. In the 90s, they had all kinds of store's; such as pet stores and more interactive and popular shopping options. They need to bring back more store's They boarded up storefronts that are closed to make the mall less scarce looking. It would be nice if the city used funding to keep the mall open and Alive!

I love the Town center Mall I've been going to that mall for so many years but sadly the stores keep disappearing with time, I wish I had the money to bring it back to its formal glory. It's still really nice and clean though but way less places to shop.

It looks so much different than it did back in the day. I saw a sign on the side briefly about demolition. I haven’t kept up with any details on what’s happening to the mall lately. The inside looks great with stories of Charleston covering up what used to be stores that are now gone.

I love shopping. I did experience racism inside of hot topic. That was the only bad time that I had.

Alot of stores have closed and a few that were supposed to be open had their gates up and decided to not work that day. Food court was pretty good

Not much left anymore they should just tear it down and build something worth having there or make a big go cart track out of the whole mall and make the stores restraints game rooms laundry mat and a day care
