A little gem of a museum in mid-coast Maine. I enjoyed the Wyeth Every Leaf & Twig and the Louise Nevelson exhibit on 6th floor was excellent. Whilst it may be a "small" museum, the alternative is to fly to NYC or train to Boston to see something like this!

Great little spot for some quality art inspired by the area. We checked out YT grounds and the guest museum and the Andre Wyeth church. Person in the lobby was happy to share some personal history that makes the artist come alive. Take a leisurely stroll as we did not have the time as had to make a ferry. Fun anyways.

A great midcoast institution -- Maine punches above its weight, art wise and while the Farnsworth leans a little legacy / traditional, there's a lot to say there. A great building right in the middle of a great town. Visit the Wyeth collection in the adjacent church for sure.

Well worth the admission price. Loved the Hopper/Wyeth show and also Katz w/friends. The satellite church across the street has amazing architecture and the Wyeth watercolors were fabulous. Was hoping to see the Porters that another reviewer mentioned but they weren't up. Still had a great visit!

2024:small and charming. 45 minutes at a slow pace to cover the entire collection. 18 dollars per person. 2020:A very nice collection. It is not large, but we'll worth the time. Took us about an hour to cover all three floors.

$20 for two hours of Andrew Wyeth and Edward Hopper watercolors, other artworks are of course on display and we enjoyed two hours at this small museum. Well worth a visit

I was very pleasantly surprised by the exhibits. Lots of variety and different from many museums. Excellent gift shop. Two buildings, one devoted to 3 generations of Wyeths. Definitely worth a visit.

Impressive curation of art representing regional and internationally-renowned artists. There are two buildings and 6 floors, so we did not get to see everything, but our group looks at art thoughtfully (and rather slowly), so it is possible to see it all in a day (if you’re efficient). Guests wear an entrance sticker and can exit to have lunch (many Rockland downtown area eateries in close walking distance) before returning to the museum. I was surprised by the extensive collection of quality art.

I've wanted to visit the Farnsworth for years, but the pandemic delayed my plans. I learned so much about Andrew Wyeth and Louise Nevelson today! The museum is very manageable and beautifully laid out and curated. I've finally visited the Farnsworth!

A wonderful hike on the breakwater. A bit cold in December, but we had wonderful weather. This could be dangerous at high tide, so be aware of the tides, and use the bathroom before you go; there's no privacy or restrooms out there. The rocks are mostly flat with some large gaps, so this is not for wheelchairs or strollers. You need to keep looking down to ensure your next step, so stop occasionally to take in the view. The lighthouse was closed when we went, but I understand it is sometimes staffed by volunteers on weekends.

A summer time tradition I've had since I was young is walking the Rockland breakwater. Decent exercise, breathtaking ocean views, and a good respite from the busy town Rockland turns into during summers. A great place to sit and relax, and even bring a picnic

Mile long walk to the lighthouse. Pretty easy going, just pay attention to cracks in between rocks. Can walk all around lighthouse, no access inside. Recommend using restroom before heading out as there is none once you get out there. If your lucky, you'll see sailboats and gulls and cormorants. Not the most photogenic of lighthouses unless you have someone with a boat. Dog friendly.

A leisurely 1 mile walk out from the parking lot and back. It does seem like a long walk because you're stepping across some gaps in the stones but overall not a hard trek at all. definitely would be more treacherous if it were windy or stormy but we had perfect weather

This is an interesting place. You can certainly enjoy the view of the bay from shore. But if you feel like a little exercise then you can walk the 4000ft breakwater and get a close up view. It’s flat but made of large granite that is loosely fitted together so caution is important to avoid missteps.

This was an awesome stop and walk out to the lighthouse. Be careful a and watch your step. Beautiful views and a great hike out and back.

Astonishing views and epic adventures. This is one place in the country you must purpose to go. So much good food and so many coastal landscapes that will forever impress your heart and memory. Family adventures could include boat rides and light houses. Endless glory

A great little museum with plenty to see and read about. Really fascinating stuff and you can tell lots of work went into the exhibits and placards. Staff were very friendly. It kept us entertained on a rainy gloomy day in Rockland, and this blows away the portentous Contemporary Art museum. It's about $10 per ticket. They have a gift shop. Check it out!

I randomly stopped in here on my way to the Maine Boat and Home Show, as you literally walk right past it on the way to the Harbor. So glad I followed my instinct, as it's pretty darn cool. Lots of local history, along with plenty of historical artifacts, and how about all those gorgeous lenses! Pretty cool to get so close and see these bad boys in all their glory. I spent about an hour here, and that was plenty. It's worth your "Maritime"

So much history in such a cute little place! It has everything about lighthouses you need to know & an awesome little gift shop!

This was a very quaint museum...about light houses. Very small. It was cool to see the lights used & read history. I think the entry fee was a little high for what was there but no big deal. There is a cute little gift shop attached as well.

The museum was small but interesting! There were a lot of different lenses! Unfortunately, I got there just as a large tour group entered, and it was way too crowded for me. I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't packed for such a small place.

Great place to visit if you enjoy lighthouses and the history that surrounds them. Entrance fee is low. (I think it was $8 for seniors.) Plan to spend at least 45 minutes in there. We were there for 1.5 hours. 👍👍

Not too expensive, 10$ for an adult. This is a smaller museum but it was really interesting. I’m not much of a lighthouse person, but I still learned a lot and enjoyed myself. The museum gift shop has an impressive amount of lighthouse themed stuff, which was fun to look through and we got a puzzle!

We really enjoyed this museum. The docent was so knowledgeable and friendly. The Fresnel lenses were fascinating and there were many interesting displays. Worth a visit!

the museum had a lot of very interesting pieces. Many fresnel lenses and lights which are always great. There is a lot of historical information as well. we really enjoyed it. they had a separate section on women in Lighthouse history and a small section on the u. s. Coast Guard.

A small, absolutely wonderful spot to learn about Project Puffin (a puffin restoration project celebrating its 50th year) and other Maine seabirds. Great information, friendly and helpful staff, and hands down the *best* bathroom mural you'll ever see! Also lots of great quality puffin-related souvenirs. Don't pass this by!

As I was strolling down Main St Rockland, I stumbled upon something pretty cool. What a fun and certainly educational 60 mins it was. I happenstance upon an active Q and A with a volunteer and a very curious couple, so I joined in. What an informative discussion, and then she pulls up a live camera view, on the large screen, and behold...Puffins! And very up close! Quite the cool moment for us all. We almost high-fived each other, as it was so spontaneous and unexpected! Definitely worth your time to stop in here, oh, and be sure to ask about the unbelievably successful back story of these wonderful creatures! And drop a $20 on your way out. Support Local

CLOSES AT 4:00 during the off season, GOOGLE says "Open till 5:00" unfortunately we arrived at 4:00 as the clerk was locking the door HOWEVER she was super nice and let us come in for a quick 5 minutes, we looked around, very nice small place, bought some merchandise and left. WISH SO MUCH we could've stayed longer, very nice little place.

Amazing little place. Something for kids and adults to enjoy. Interactive, educational. Maeve was excellent at providing information, answering questions and promoting awareness for endangered birds. Best place for unique puffin merchandise. We live over 10 hour drive away, came to Maine specifically to see the puffins and the visitor center only added to the excitement!

Very initiating and informative desk person welcoming with an intensity necessary to support Puffins. Great livestream with a dummy puffin. See if you can pick that one out. Lots of little puffin gifts and a little experience along Main Street. Make sure kids get ice cream before going in as a lot of puffins can be a lot.

I feel that everyone should visit this place. Why? I don't know. There's really nothing there. Poor clerk was sound asleep when we were outside, but sparked up into an impassioned speech about puffins instantly as we entered. You can get puffin mugs, shot glasses, and assorted other puffin accoutrements here. After that you can explore the hallway that leads to a small conference room. There you will find a tiny cave placed on the floor for the kids. Whew! After that exhausting adventure, you'll have seen everything! Still, all jokes aside, preserving the habitats for these amazing creatures is a noble cause, and they clearly love what they do, so get thee in there and donate!

Loved learning about the Puffins! Their recovery is due to a group of amazing human beings (spearheaded by women activists!) decades ago. Knowledgeable staff from the non-profit Audubon Society engage us tremendous knowledge, and one of the other staff was engaging a group of kids with a model of the research box the scientists use on the side. I am better of for having come here! And - they partner with 2 Puffin boat tours where your trip funds their work. We just got back from Hardy Boat Cruise one, and we saw a hundred or more puffins and other seabirds as they idled near the island. I’m grateful for their hard work - without them, we wouldn’t have any puffin tourism!

Wonderful visitors center with lots of good information on puffins, local birds, and a great video explaining the project’s history. Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. Entrance is free of charge but we donated $5/person (as suggested).

A free, small but informative center dedicated to the education and conservation of the puffin. A cute little gift shop in the front, a couple of bathrooms along the hallway to the back, and a room with maps, informational posters, and seating to watch a 20 minute documentary depicting the puffin and actions to bring it back to the local bay area. There's also a kid-sized puffin nesting burrow, decoy sea birds, and interactive containers displaying food sources for puffins and other local sea birds. The attendant was very knowledgeable and friendly, and answered any questions we had.

Online shopping was smooth and fast. Thank you for my puffin socks! I can’t wait to wear them at my wedding.

Livestreamed puffins, what fun. Outstanding 20 minute video, wonderful gals at the desk, full of information and just waiting to share. Great fun things for the kids including their own puffin burrow. Things to see, things to buy. Glad I have the grandchildren as an excuse to go.

I wish it had been more interactive because we went there especially for it. The people working there weren't that interested in helping us to see the exhibits.

We learned a great deal about the puffin conversation efforts and the success they have had over the past 50 years. Well worth a stop. Also a great place to ask which cruise companies to take to see the puffins. It's free, but please consider a donation towards the effort.

A must see! Meeting Captain Jim Sharp was a special treat! His collection of maritime history is impressive.

Interesting small museum. Great ship models. Get the self guided tour tablet and talk to the founder if he is there. Good section on navigation.

Captain Spark is a National Treasure. We had a wonderful time learning about all the Sail and Steam vessels out of Rockland, Maine. Fascinating!

Absolutely amazing museum, with so many stories and artifacts to explore! We came to town for the boat show, only to be disappointed there were only two sail boats there. We left early and came here instead. Wow! Fans of nautical history and the golden age of sailing will have so much fun here. My favorite bit was the amazing story Captain Jim told about restoring the Bowdoin.

Thanks so much to Capt. Jim for the informative conversation today about sailing ships and steam engines! We enjoyed your personal stories and historical overview of the Rockland area. Since I'm a member of Clan MacMillan, it was interesting to see the stories about the Bowdoin schooner and Donald MacMillan's trips to Antarctica. Excellent, one of the best and interesting museums visited in many a year. Jim was such a enthusiastic character about all the things he had collected through is boating life and the history attached to many of the artefacts was astounding and with his personal involvement of the items it was living history. Highly recommend a visit, we spent 3 hours there!

A small but top notch maritime museum we spent over 2 hours in and learned so much. Rooms are set up based on subject/themes with fascinating tall ships history. Captain Jim Sharp - the founder and his wife - were there running the museum - he is an extraordinary man with tons of amazing living history to tell. Don't miss it!

Wife, adult son and I from TX thoroughly loved the varied and robust exhibit rooms. The info is detailed, very interesting to us. We stayed 1.5 hrs and scratched surface of real treasure. Allow more time to dive deep if you're into this like us. Yes, this would likely not appeal to most young kids. Captain Jim is 89 yrs young, thrilled to talk sea, and is asking for someone younger to train up.

Great experience, took the Ferry just for the day. Off the beaten path trip to Vinalhaven on a gorgeous day is totally worth it. Leave your car behind, or you'll have to make return reservations 24h before.

Didn't use the ferry, but watched cars being loaded from my balcony at the hotel right across the street (Rockland Harbor Hitel). Fun to watch.

We took the ferry from Rockland to vinalhaven. Trip time about 75 minutes. There and back during peak season is 17 roundtrip. If you have no car, no reservations are necessary. Social distancing was handled well and staff were attentive and efficient Facilities were clean and the Ferry route is beautiful going past the jetty, owl's point, the small islands, waterman working the water. If this was a tour boat you would pay almost five times for the same experience. Cannot say enough about the experience.

The ferry service is run by the Maine DOT. The winter rates were very reasonable, it cost less than $50 to go to the island with a car. We had a sunny day with calm seas both ways. The scenery on the ferry ride was beautiful, and now I know why they call it the rocky coast of Maine. The island doesn't have a lot of attractions, but the scenery when driving around the island is worth it. There's scenic views along most of the roads and the summer activities, swimming, boating, etc should be worth the trip. Because it was off-season, most of the restaurants were closed, but we found a small bakery right off the dock and had coffee and the best raspberry muffin I've had in a long time. The majority of residents work fishing and lobstering. Lobster traps were stacked high in most yards. The ferry runs on a tight schedule, so make reservations for both trips and get there on time. The last ferry leaves at 3:15 P.M., if you don't make it, you're on the island for the night. It was worth the trip even though it was winter.

Absolutely great service from a busy staff at the Rockland terminal as well as the North haven and Vinal haven terminal. . The dedicated staff works hard u set n Eric’s constraints whether is timing,weather or budget issues . Also dealing with the public as they do while working inside the terminals or outside they do a great job ! I have been going there for years and years and always have had good service !

Timing and booking takes a bit of work. But the ferry itself is fantastic, on time, clean and very efficient. We took a few times back and forth from mainland to North haven. Was most fun in the dense fog :) definitely get out on the car deck and feel the breeze.

The boats arrive on time and the staff are professional, courteous and friendly. There is overnight parking for people wanting to take the ferry and vehicles can also be taken on the ferries at some cost I assume. The place is conveniently looked and even if you don't have transport, while moving out you have access to bars and restaurants.
