Acadia National Park is a vast 47,000-acre nature reserve characterized by forests, towering granite peaks, and rugged coastlines. It offers a range of activities such as camping, hiking, and more. While visitors typically spend around three days exploring the park and its nearby town Bar Harbor, it's still possible to make the most of a single day by driving along the scenic 27-mile Park Loop Road.
My mom just moved to ME which makes it easy to explore Acadia. It’s now one of my favorites. The views are breathtaking. Sometimes it’s foggy, which gives it this spooky and mysterious vibe. The beehive’s summit is my favorite trail so far. It overlooks sand beach. I would love to explore when it’s fall and the leaves are different colors.

The "summer getaway" location in Maine (and the rest of New England).
This national park has options for all. From short strolls and horseback riding to photograph and water activities.
Recommendation: Plan in advance to secure accommodations outside the park and your "must do" activities. A little bit of preparation will be worth the journey.

This is a lovely place to hike and get spectacular ocean views. Don’t expect to see much wildlife, and avoid the heavily trafficked loop road during peak tourist season - unless you want to spend time on a parking lot or walk shoulder to shoulder with thousands of visitors.
We especially loved the hike to Sargent mountain from Jordan’s pool and also the less crowded loop around the schoodick peninsula

Absolutely beautiful place! Was only able to spend a few hours exploring, but we will definitely be returning for an extended stay. Very peaceful. Only one other couple were at the beach we stopped at to explore. It was drizzling, but I think it only added to the charm.

A seemingly endless number of hiking trails to choose from that range from easy to difficult, with each offering unique and beautiful views of Mount Desert Island and the surrounding seas and lands. A must-visit national park for hikers, bikers, naturalists, and adventurers.

Although the mountain-river sceneries are most concentrated in western or center of United States, but Acadia National Park makes an exception. There is rarely good Mountain View at east coast of United States, people can hiking, mountain climbing, biking, etc. Also there have beautiful rock coast, and enjoy the colorful rock with blue ocean. According to the rank, Acadia National Park is the only national park located at eastern coast which in the top 10 most beautiful national parks of United States.

Great experience. Very beautiful and serene. Lots of different trails with varying levels of difficulty. Beehive trail and Jordan pond loop were highlights. Bar harbor and bass harbor are also worth a visit.

One of the prettiest National Parks I've visited. I loved being able to climb Cadillac Mountain and greet the sunrise. Otter cliffs were stunning. Jordan Pond was picture perfect. The trails offered varied in length and intensity. So glad to cross Acadia off my bucket list. My young son thoroughly enjoyed the trip too. Would love to visit again in the Springtime or Summer.

Such diverse landscape from mountains to the sea. We particularly liked exploring tide pools at low tide. The flowers looked and smelled amazing in July. Some of the more popular areas were very crowded and parking was difficult.
Barbara V. — Google review
Great experience. Cadillac Mountain was scenic. Lots of hiking opportunities for all levels. Bubble Rock is a great hike, no matter what path you take. Thunder Hole had impressive waves but wouldn't THUNDER for us (need surge and winds to be just right)

Beautiful National park in Maine. So many sites to see and things to do inside the park. Tons of hiking trails and carriage roads. We were lucky enough to visit during peak fall foliage and the park did not disappoint. Lots of different areas to explore so be sure to map out your day and have other options available as some areas get very crowded and parking can be limited!

My husband and I have been to many of the National Parks, and Acadia is up there among our favorites! We spent a couple of days hiking around in mid-October, and it. was. breathtaking!!! The air smells and feels so fresh, the landscape is dramatic, and the wildlife is incredible. We saw bald eagles, seals, and deer. If you head to Acadia, I’d definitely recommend taking some time to walk down to the sand beach! If you walk all the way to the left, there are some tidal pools and grassy spots. We spent a lot of our afternoon laying in the sunshine and looking in the tidal pools. We also loved hiking around Otter Point! Gosh, I can’t put into words how stunningly beautiful the landscape is… if you’re thinking of planning a trip to Mount Desert Island, think no more!! Do it! It’s amazing.
Jenny Parkison — Google review
Though winter is not the hot season of Acadia, it is also special and beautiful. I will definitely go there again and explore more of this amazing island. We climbed the Door Mountain, it’s not difficult and has a good view on the top.
Kaiyu Wang — Google review
One of the best hiking and sightseeing destinations in the country and world. Even right after peak season it’s very very very busy. But if you plan accordingly with alternatives/backups for traffic and/or weather situations you can have a fantastic time. Make sure to take in account for the heavy foot traffic and longer wait time at restaurants because it’s often visited by families and older folks as well.
Miguelina Diaz — Google review
We have traveled our 48 states and Acadia National Park is in the top 10 attractions. Plan enough time to see and experience all routes. We chose to drive ourselves instead of the buses and found it pleasurable and not difficult. Bar Harbor is very busy and parking was difficult to find.

We could say so much about Acadia!
But I’ll keep this short:
- Amazing hikes, they are short, some are exposed with ladders and narrow ledges. They offer incredible views on the ocean and they are very very scenic. Jordan Pond, beachcroft path, precipice trail, beehive, good classics!
- The park is so clean, campgrounds are nice if you can book a spot, you can either go hike in the mountains or hang out on the coast.
- If you can bring bikes, the carriage road is so much fun, gravel road with scenic views, no cars.
One of the best park I’ve been too. They don’t have the big and tall mountains, but they don’t miss it!

Incredible National Park. Went in November traffic was light which made everything easy to get around. Downside many restaurants and amenities were not open. Did not need a reservation for Cadillac Mountain. I'd go back in an instant.
Nicholas Seiter — Google review
I went on a drizzly day in March in the off season but everything was still so stunning. I wish I'd had more than 1 day to look and hike around. Definitely coming back for longer in the summer. Gorgeous spot
Dr Nicole Hellessey — Google review
I have traveled over the entire United States and Acadia is by far one of the most magical places I have had the pleasure experiencing. You could explore this place over and over, and I would be willing to bet its beauty would forever be shocking, inspiring, and uplifting. You will not regret traveling here and you will definitely want to stay. I would recommend staying in bar harbor, if you can afford it, and hiking every trail you can. The Bee Hive Trail was my favorite and looked beautiful with the fall leaves. I went the second week of October and I think one more week would have been perfect to allow for more transition.

Acadia National Park is like that chill friend who's always down for a good time outdoors. It's got everything from rocky beaches to lush forests, making it the ultimate hangout spot.
You can take it easy and just chill by Jordan Pond with a picnic, or if you're feeling adventurous, hit up Cadillac Mountain for some killer views. if hiking's not your thing, no worries! There are plenty of scenic drives and easy trails to explore.
Whether you're into kayaking on Eagle Lake or just soaking in the scenery, Acadia's got something for everyone. It's the kind of place where you can kick back, relax, and let nature do its thing.
So, next time you're in Maine and looking for a casual outdoor escape, Acadia National Park is where it's at. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

My family and I stayed in the area for a month exploring this great national park. There was so much to see and we still did not have enough time to get to everything. With that being said, the things we did see were magnificent and the wonder that surrounds the trail in this park is amazing. If you look close enough in nature you find so many little things working together that makes the landscape what it is. Highly recommend this park if you are ever in the area and the people there are so nice. Thanks for the hospitality.

Took a 2 hikes: beachcroft trail up most of Chamberlain mountain, sandy beach.
What an amazing beach! The geology is super interesting compared to the south's beaches. Lots of triangle rocks, as well as some sea glass.
Also visited thunder hole at low tide. It was still amazing. You can see how the tide booms in at high tide.
Rion Caughman — Google review
Beautiful. The landscape is breathtaking. I have been here at various times of the year and I am never disappointed. Just make sure you bring appropriate clothes. Get here early. It will take you all day to see all the sights that are here. While you can DRIVE everywhere, you WILL want to get out and walk around and become involved in this remarkable piece of nature. Just breathing the air alone will make you come back.

Acadia is one of my favorite Maine places to visit over and over. I hike here year round in every type of New England weather. This park is loaded with endless options for hiking the trails and carriage roads. A daily, weekly, or annual park pass is required to enter this Park. The Jordan Pond House is the only cafe inside the Park (that I am aware of) that serves food and drink. Bodies of water here range ponds, streams, lakes, and countless access points to the Atlantic Ocean. Be sure to check the official Acadia NP website to catch any road or trail closures. The autumn foliage here is absolutely stunning during October. The scenic drive on Park Loop Road within the Park (on Mount Desert Island, aka MDI) is approximately 25 miles long.

Located in Waldoboro, Morse's Sauerkraut is a renowned MidCoast establishment that offers a unique blend of deli and luncheonette experiences. The shop has upheld the tradition of Virgil Morse, who began crafting sauerkraut from scratch in 1918. In addition to their signature kraut, Morse's boasts an impressive selection of fresh sausages, tinned fish, craft beers, and cheeses.
This place rocks!!!! U can sample cheeses, meats and much more. I had one of the owners assisting me. She knows a lot about the products. She let me sample lots of meats and cheeses and most of it I bought. Spent almost $200 there. They are thinking of trying to make a Morse Hot Sauce.

Very deceptive little place on the outside but on the inside.... they have everything. Deli meats, cheeses, canned meats, specialty items galore. They let you sample cheeses before you purchase as well as the deli meats. This place is a.maz.ing! Recommend this place highly!

Very unique shop with many items from Germany as well as the deli section with meats, cheeses, kraft, and so much more. While studying the kraft cooler, I happened to notice some wrapped muffaletta sandwiches. Grabbed one to try. Its one of the best I have ever had! Plenty of meat and olive toppings. Enough for two to share! Also a nice selection of German beers!

This unassuming building holds the most incredible collection of European specialty items!! Predominantly German..but French and Italian are represented too! Jams, oils, candies and sodas, a cheese and meat counter (they are quick to let you try before you buy!) and if course- their famous made there sour kraut and pickles!!! You can spend hours there poking around! Lovely people working there too!!

I love the location of this little joint. It is literally located in the middle of nowhere. Located on Route 220. Ample parking. Not very busy here whenever I have stopped by to place a take out order. Their restaurant includes a shop of various products. Their menu items are very delicious. There are a few tables available for dining in. I love their mouthwatering Rueben sandwiches. Yum!!

So much stuff! I stopped by the grab the sour mustard pickles because I love them. I did NOT realize how awesome this place! Came for pickles, left with over $100 of stuff! Definitely a hidden gem!

Great selection of meats, cheeses, olives, and of course kraut (which is really really good!)! Everything we tried was great and the cheese monger was super helpful! If you can't find your favorite European stuff here, you probably can't get it in the US!

Morse’s Sauerkraut is located in the middle of farm country in Waldoboro, in an unassuming roadside building, but the moment you walk in, you have entered a gourmet import store and restaurant. Morse’s has been making their own sauerkraut and pickles for more than 100 years, and I’m not sure how long the shop has been open. They have a large and interesting variety of cheese, and they are enthusiastic about answering questions and providing samples. I always learn something when I stop in. In the sausage/deli cooler, they have German, Hungarian and Pork sausages, as well as imported hams, smoked pork, and other charcuterie.
The rest of the shop is devoted to imported products and ingredients, mostly German, and a huge selection of chocolates. We always stop by for our holiday candy for stockings and gifts.
Dean Emmerson — Google review
You have got to stop here. It is amazing. All the pickles and kraut are just the start. It is wonderful. Wish the restaurant was open. It sounds awesome. Can’t wait to come back. The deli has a tremendous variety of meats and cheese. Don’t forget about the great selection of candy.

Went here on a beautiful fall day. The drive into this remote restaurant was stunning. The German restaurant and store is kinda awesome. Lots of product that you don't normally see. Various pickle samples. We ended up choosing the half sours. So good. The restaurant was fun too. Small room only five tables so we had to wait but it was worth it. Had the bratwurst with Sauerkraut and a reuben both were great. Fun outing.

We learned about Morse's sauerkraut when we ate Ruben sandwiches at Moody's Diner in 2018.
Got to visit Morse's Sept 2021. What a delicatessen! Incredible selection of international products, and homemade pickled vegetables and cured meats.
Don't miss this off the beaten path, longtime, Maine treasure. Get your next picnic lunch here! Nice people!
Nestled in a picturesque 70-acre farm, Sweetgrass Farm Winery and Distillery is a hidden gem in northern New England. Despite the challenging climate, this off-the-beaten-path location produces an eclectic range of award-winning wines and spirits using exclusively Maine-grown fruit and grains. Visitors can enjoy tastings at the original location or its offshoots in Kennebunk and Portland.
I started coming here when my kids went to camp a dozen yrs ago. I fell in love with their wine and the smash. This is a MUST place to stop if you are in the area. If you come in by car, get tons of the smash because it’s hard to ship out of state. Especially to here in California. I love this place so much that I would consider driving across country just to load up my car with it to take home.!! Their spirits are obviously made with extreme love and attention! I luuuuv you Sweetgrass!

This is a nice little winery & distillery. Friendly service with great reccomendations. We really enjoyed the gins. Plenty of seating choices available; indoor tables, bar on the deck, Adirondack chairs, picnic tables with umbrellas, a large lawn waiting for picnic blankets. The property is stunning. Wandering paths through wildflower meadows.

Very friendly sommelier/winemaker. We were pleasantly surprised, came from the coast which was foggy and cool, to a warm and sun filled valley. Plus, left with several bottles of wine.

Very nice shop with variety of gin and wines. The Wild Blueberry Sangria is wonderful, we usually get several bottles to share. Everyone likes it!
Nice sitting area on the back deck with awesome views. Wish they had some snacks or light lunch, it would be a great place to hang out and chill.

Off the beaten path but isn’t that where you usually find the wicked good places? Beautiful location and great products = A real gem!
So go to Sweetgrass. Get the Cranberry Gin. Get the Rhubarb Smash. Grab a bottle of tonic water. In a glass with ice, one to one Cranberry Gin to Rhubarb smash and two to three parts tonic water, mix and enjoy!!

We tried the blueberry cabernet sauvignon and the gin and really liked them both. The service was very friendly and the setting is gorgeous. Also easy to get to on the way from Portland to Acadia/Bar Harbor. Highly recommend!

Great vineyard taking social distancing seriously! The blueberry cab was dry and delicious as I read my book. Beautiful location with a few paths to walk along.

Wonderfully secluded and quiet distillery where you can sit out back with a featured drink. Most likely the best gin you'll ever find.

I have learned much from Bea and Joe Bryant about vintage stoves, how they were made and why they were so better built. With that said i not only became a customer and friend,i became a collector who actually burns his antiques and have a great place to bring them back when repairs are required, great crew, they are on the cutting edge of obsolete technology!
Galo Hernandez — Google review
I visited here recently with my wife and 12-year-old daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Bryant were very welcoming and showed us many of the items in the museum, including the amazing moving doll exhibit, the one-of-a-kind musical instrument collection, and the collection of rare antique cars. I could have spent hours just checking out one small corner of this place. I recommend visiting here. You won't be disappointed. And everything in the museum is hands-on. And they have many beautiful stoves for sale that would grace anyone's home.

WOW! If you are looking for a run of the mill, dul boring place to visit. THIS IS NOT THAT. By far one of the most interesting places you will ever visit. Yes they do sell wood stoves. But this is really a car museum, and lots more.

Fascinating collection antiques- dolls, cars, player pianos, stoves (yes- stoves!) and unique memorabilia. Very cool place to visit. You have never seen anything like this before. Guaranteed to impress.

This place is a treasure, and the people are even more so.
Worth a stop even if you don't have a woodstove!
Trisha Smith — Google review
Defies description but plenty of old wood & gas stoves, both cookstoves and parlor stove, many restored, many others waiting their turns. Antique cars, music machines of many kinds--player pianos, nickelodeons, calliope, many others, most working, and every sort of animated toy imaginable. Quite the unexpected find in a friendly little Maine town.

Fun antiques in the back room. Tucked in Thorndike, Maine. The store sells kitchen cook stoves along with accessories and heat wood stoves. Excellent back room full of antiques and its hands on fun.

The Owls Head Transportation Museum is a hidden gem that houses an impressive collection of vintage automobiles, aircraft, and engines. Visitors can explore the museum's cavernous hangar to admire the well-preserved vintage vehicles on display. Additionally, nature enthusiasts will appreciate the nearby Owls Head State Park, which offers stunning views of the bay, rugged cliffs, and serene beaches. The museum is a paradise for gear heads and history lovers alike with its pre-1940s transportation exhibits.
Beautiful. The displays are well kept. A few of the displays I've never seen before and had no idea that is was a real thing. My favorite was the the Ferrari 355 racing game. And seeing Michael Schumachers F1 car.

Excellent place to rekindle memory lane. Bring your parents for a great afternoon of quality time. Lots of history here dating back to the early 20s or so. Lots of great finds, even a 1935 Packard. I'm fond of Packards and Cadillacs.

Great transportation museum with some unusual items in their collection. Plenty of parking, reasonable fees and a nice gift shop as well. Well done museum of old cars in great condition. Also a few planes and motorcycles. It's one of the better car collections on display in the world.

We checked this place out while vactioning in the area recently & got a private history lesson on the Aircraft within the museum by a very passionate and friendly staff member who's directly involved in the flying and maintaining of all the aircraft in the museum. We were impressed by the fact that all the aircraft within the museum are still flown aside from the planes that are hanging from the ceiling!🤯 It was also neat to learn that they had a few original aircraft amongst many replicas!
The automobile and motorcycle collection was just as fascinating. Highly recommended making the trip if you're in the area!

We were camping. It was so cool to see what an old camper looked like.
We also got to sit in an aeroplane plane and one of the workers took a pic for us. It's tough climbing in and out of those old timey planes.

The Owls Head Transportation Museum was an over-the-top surprise. We ended up in Maine after the tourist season and were looking around for something interesting and fun to do. The Owls Head Transportation Museum delivered on both.
The museum had displays on everything from bicycles to airplanes and everything in between. If you are a MG car person, this is your place. What a great collection of MG cars.
The museum is well laid out. The displays are well done and very informative. Plan on spending at least half a day there or more especially if an event is going on.
We will for sure be returning to this great museum. My hat is off to all the people who help run this great place. You have done an extraordinary job!
Don Coomer — Google review
Our visit was over an early spring weekend when several exhibits were closed for maintenance and others, particularly the aircraft, were crowded together inside. In spite pf this we spent a great couple of hours looking at the great classic cars and motorcycles, steam engines and models of the mills they powered, and the aircraft, all preserved in working condition. This is a great place for the whole family with friendly and helpful staff, great gift shop, snack bar, and ample rest rooms. Plan on spending a couple of hours in winter or all day in the summer or during special events. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

For anyone who loves airplanes and cars, this out of the way museum is a superb day-trip destination. They have a well rounded collection of largely pre-World War II aircraft and vintage automobiles. I'd estimate probably a dozen, plus aircraft and three or four dozen automobiles.

I'm a car and train guy. As such, I've visited many, many car and transportation museums. This was truly one of, or the best I've been to. The exhibits are well thought out, the story boards informative and interesting, and the subjects varied. Further, my wife, who isn't as interested in transportation, also enjoyed herself very much. Would highly recommend.
Greg Snook — Google review
My kids (10 and 5) absolutely loved this museum. There were so many things to see, lots of information for everything, little play areas throughout, and even a STEM area where kids could play and experiment. There were a few gentlemen working on the planes who were ready to answer all our questions and show us their cool engines. My 10 year old especially loved the free flight simulator arcade game. They were both free to enter, I was $15 so very worth the cost and the drive.

This is a great museum for all ages! It is worth the drive from southern Maine. There are attractions for kids in the stem center. They have bikes, planes, cars, wagons, racecars, motorcycles, and more!
The Farnsworth Art Museum in Maine is a must-see for art enthusiasts. It features paintings and sculptures by famous American artists such as the Wyeths, Edward Hopper, Louise Nevelson, Rockwell Kent and Robert Indiana. The museum's collection spans 200 years of American art with a focus on artists who have lived or worked in Maine.
Worth it but don't expect all their collection to be on display. I went there specifically to see Katz's portrait of Rudy Burckhardt and was disappointed. The Porters more than made up for it.
W Pdgt — Google review
A little gem of a museum in mid-coast Maine. I enjoyed the Wyeth Every Leaf & Twig and the Louise Nevelson exhibit on 6th floor was excellent. Whilst it may be a "small" museum, the alternative is to fly to NYC or train to Boston to see something like this!
Mark Siladi — Google review
Great little spot for some quality art inspired by the area. We checked out YT grounds and the guest museum and the Andre Wyeth church. Person in the lobby was happy to share some personal history that makes the artist come alive. Take a leisurely stroll as we did not have the time as had to make a ferry. Fun anyways.
Kevin Markman — Google review
A great midcoast institution -- Maine punches above its weight, art wise and while the Farnsworth leans a little legacy / traditional, there's a lot to say there. A great building right in the middle of a great town. Visit the Wyeth collection in the adjacent church for sure.
Henry Quinn — Google review
Well worth the admission price. Loved the Hopper/Wyeth show and also Katz w/friends. The satellite church across the street has amazing architecture and the Wyeth watercolors were fabulous. Was hoping to see the Porters that another reviewer mentioned but they weren't up. Still had a great visit!

2024:small and charming. 45 minutes at a slow pace to cover the entire collection. 18 dollars per person.
2020:A very nice collection. It is not large, but we'll worth the time. Took us about an hour to cover all three floors.

$20 for two hours of Andrew Wyeth and Edward Hopper watercolors, other artworks are of course on display and we enjoyed two hours at this small museum. Well worth a visit
Andrea Goldbaum — Google review
I was very pleasantly surprised by the exhibits. Lots of variety and different from many museums. Excellent gift shop. Two buildings, one devoted to 3 generations of Wyeths. Definitely worth a visit.
Karen — Google review
Impressive curation of art representing regional and internationally-renowned artists. There are two buildings and 6 floors, so we did not get to see everything, but our group looks at art thoughtfully (and rather slowly), so it is possible to see it all in a day (if you’re efficient). Guests wear an entrance sticker and can exit to have lunch (many Rockland downtown area eateries in close walking distance) before returning to the museum. I was surprised by the extensive collection of quality art.

I've wanted to visit the Farnsworth for years, but the pandemic delayed my plans.
I learned so much about Andrew Wyeth and Louise Nevelson today! The museum is very manageable and beautifully laid out and curated. I've finally visited the Farnsworth!
The Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, situated at the end of a mile-long granite block breakwater in Rockland Harbor, was constructed in 1902 and offers seasonal tours. The lighthouse sits atop a brick house and provides breathtaking views of the town. It took 18 years to complete the construction of the walkway leading to the lighthouse, which can be treacherous with slippery rocks and uneven gaps between stones.
Also known as spider house, since every window has 30 spiders living on it...
Actually a really cool place, and a really nice walk to get there. Not an easy or short walk, but worth it. Great views of the harbor and the lighthouse. You might even get to see a seagull eating a starfish...... and a lot of spiders.

A wonderful hike on the breakwater. A bit cold in December, but we had wonderful weather. This could be dangerous at high tide, so be aware of the tides, and use the bathroom before you go; there's no privacy or restrooms out there. The rocks are mostly flat with some large gaps, so this is not for wheelchairs or strollers. You need to keep looking down to ensure your next step, so stop occasionally to take in the view. The lighthouse was closed when we went, but I understand it is sometimes staffed by volunteers on weekends.

This is a beautiful lighthouse and an easy walk out on really large rocks. There are tours - it had just closed when I was there. Watch out for the tides so you don't get stuck. Nice places to walk and picnic while there. Worth visiting, I'm already planning when I can go back. If you love visiting lighthouses, put this one on your list.

A summer time tradition I've had since I was young is walking the Rockland breakwater. Decent exercise, breathtaking ocean views, and a good respite from the busy town Rockland turns into during summers. A great place to sit and relax, and even bring a picnic

Mile long walk to the lighthouse. Pretty easy going, just pay attention to cracks in between rocks. Can walk all around lighthouse, no access inside. Recommend using restroom before heading out as there is none once you get out there. If your lucky, you'll see sailboats and gulls and cormorants. Not the most photogenic of lighthouses unless you have someone with a boat. Dog friendly.

beautiful, breezy one mile walk out to the lighthouse. Dog friendly, make sure you have good shoes is all granet with gaps in the rocks
Katherine Marchessault — Google review
A leisurely 1 mile walk out from the parking lot and back. It does seem like a long walk because you're stepping across some gaps in the stones but overall not a hard trek at all. definitely would be more treacherous if it were windy or stormy but we had perfect weather

This is an interesting place. You can certainly enjoy the view of the bay from shore. But if you feel like a little exercise then you can walk the 4000ft breakwater and get a close up view. It’s flat but made of large granite that is loosely fitted together so caution is important to avoid missteps.

This was an awesome stop and walk out to the lighthouse. Be careful a and watch your step. Beautiful views and a great hike out and back.
J-Kube — Google review
Great easy walk but you do need to watch your step. I wouldn't want to take a child learning to walk here but people did it. Wish we had brought the water pack for the dog. As mentioned in other reviews there are no bathrooms or water fountains at the lighthouse so take care of your needs before you start your journey.
Stacy Collingham — Google review
By far the Mrs. and I loved this lighthouse. It also has thr unique route to get out to it. Be mindful the path is very level, but there are gaps between the rocks, so no walking and gawking. As long as you watch your step, you can make it to the lighthouse. Honestly, an amazing lighthouse and construction story, we could not recommend this one enough!
Kris Handshoe — Google review
An almost deceptively long walk all the way to the lighthouse, but fun regardless. The rocks are large, uneven, and gapped, so it isn’t a gentle walk. The lighthouse at the end is actually better viewed on the way than when you arrive at the end. Great views of the surrounding area throughout the walk.
K I — Google review
The walk over the breakwater was long and started out somewhat challenging for some with large gaps between the stone blocks but improved as spacing became more uniform. The view of the water, birds, boats, and lighthouse were well worth the effort.
ericmtnbiker — Google review
Nice walk down the jetty. It’s relatively smooth, but no where near wheelchair or stroller friendly. It was at least a mile down the path one way and you can’t do much once you get there except look around. The boats are nice and the breeze was good. I can’t figure out where people go to the bathroom when they are out at places like this. There was zero facilities anywhere near here. I hope you can hold it!

Beautiful morning for a walk to the lighthouse. You can go up halfway to the balcony area and walk around the lighthouse, but the tower is only open on certain days. You can't really see the light once you get out to it since you can't go all the way up. Next time, I'd probably only walk halfway to get nice pictures.
The Mount Battie Trail is a picturesque hiking path that stretches for about a mile and offers the perfect opportunity to see seasonal wildflowers. Although it is steep when starting from town, one can enjoy better views of the Penobscot Bay and Camden by taking the trail from Camden Hills State Park. The trail itself is stunning, with great views that provide a beautiful backdrop for hikers. It's also an excellent option for families with children who want to explore and experience nature together.
This is a solid tourist attraction. There are lots of options here for pretty much everyone. You can drive all the way to the top and there is easy access to the views from parking lot. Also there are bathrooms at the top which aren’t terrible. There are also options to hike all the way from the bottom, or various points a long the trail. It isn’t a hard trail, but there are a lot of rock scrambles, if rainy it could be pretty slick.

I will start this by saying this area is a state park. So there is a fee but it's not an arm and a leg. Also for those who like camping there is a campground at the base. That said, let's continue...
Now two ways to get to the top of Mt. Battie. You can walk up, or you can be like me and drive up. I've done enough walking for the last 65 years:) Parking though will accommodate around 30 cars. And I'll be honest that's just a guess.
So once you're up there you get one of the best views of Camden harbor and Rockland that you could ever ask for. Also there is a small observation tower you can go up to get an extended view. If you're lucky you can watch eagles sailing on the up draft and they float around for a bit.
I would suggest bringing up a lawn chair. A lot of people don't and just walk around for a few minutes then leave. The best part is to sit and take it all in.
So if you're up in the area stop by. You won't be disappointed.
Camden Hills State Park is a vast wooded area with over 30 miles of trails, perfect for those seeking to immerse themselves in the magic of midcoast. The park offers various hiking options, including the Maidens Cliff Trail and Mt Battie climb, both providing stunning panoramic views of Lake Megunticook and Penobscot Bay. For those short on time or energy, a drive up the Mt Battie Auto Road will also lead to breathtaking vistas.
Hiked up and stayed at the ski hut (you need a reservation). Hut is large (sleep 10 or more). Two Adirondack chairs and 3 picnic tables inside. Plenty of wood for the wood burning stove. Trails were super icy! Definitely bring traction in the winter. View from top was obscured by clouds, but views of harbor are stunning on sunny days. Great stay! Great day hiking locale too, but can be super busy in the summer.
Kari Guddeck — Google review
I have a mixed review about this park. The staff were really nice. The park is absolutely beautiful. The campsites are beautiful wooded or there's a field if you prefer. electrical and water hook ups available.
There are trails that start in the campground and allow you access to the park.
There is some road noise from route one but it's not unbearable.
The only problem - the dump station was a challenge. The park should invest in a five dollar fitting so that the black tank flush works.
jesse white — Google review
Well marked foot trails and auto road lead to spectacular 360 degree view. Scenic tower and clean outhouses are icing on the cake. Hiking trails are moderately challenging but well marked and distance is indicated at trailheads. Great family outing.

We stayed two nights and had such a pleasant time. Neighbors were very nice and everyone we met was super nice and polite. Within the park is just a short drive to Mt. Battie and I cannot recommend making the drive for that 360° view. It will not disappoint whether summer or winter!!! Hot showers, clean bathrooms, and quiet accommodations are what you can expect here.

Beautful tent sites with lots of trees and amazing hiking trails. You can also drive up to the summit of Mount Battie if you are unable to hike.

Fun trails. Even if it is foggy outside, I would still recommend going just for the hiking. First, we drove up to Mount Battie. Would have definitely been a nice view if not foggy but there was still the WWI memorial tower and the signs that told you information about it. We then drove down to the parking lot for the Megunticook trail. We did the Megunticook trail and we also took the Ridge trail to the summit of Mount Megunticook. Was somewhat strenuous going up but was very easy to go down (other than falling from the slippery rocks). I would highly recommend this route as well as also going through the Adams Lookout Trail (which branches off and connects back to the Megunticook trail and offers great views). Also, definitely bring bug spray and be wary of spider webs. One more thing to note, it is a deceptively large park, don’t bite off more than you can chew.

We went to the top of Mount Battie by car. Lovely look out over the hills and city of Camden. There is a tower built from stones from hotel that had been there previously. The tower commemorates the soldiers from WWI.

Fee access area but worth the nominal fee for a great view and tidbit of history at the top. Easy access by car and short walk. Handicap parking but I did not see a wheelchair ramp.

The view from Mt. Battie was absolutely amazing! Prior to our trip, our friends had recommended this. So peaceful and serene seeing the harbor down below! Definitely worth the stop!
Emilee Hunter — Google review
This is a great park with lots to do. The rangers work hard dealing with Mt battie traffic and the campground. We enjoyed the bay side of the park with water access. High tide was safest because the rocks are slippery. We had site 106 for a week which is too close to the dumpsters, loud, people use it all times of the day. Sites 102, 103 and 104 are also too close. There are some nice hook up sites near the restrooms and I would try to get one of those if I came back. We also did the hike up the mountain. It was steep but manageable. The conservation corps were there working on it. Loved the free showers but sometimes the water wasn't hot at all!

We camped at Camden Hills and we liked it although the sites were closer together than we prefer but it was quiet. We also drove up Mount Batty and the view was cool although it was hazy from wildfire smoke.

Great hiking opportunities as well as a fantastic view from the tower. My pictures are affected by smoke from Canada wildfires.

We camped here and visited for 2 days. Great hiking trails and perfect views. Same view is easily seen by driving auto road to the tower with a lot less effort. No real shore accesa here, though there is a rough path down to a very rocky beach. Water and electric at our campsite. Relatively flat, but not 100%. XL site fit our 30 foot bumper pull perfectly. Junior ranger program a hit with my toddlers. Playground is just 2 swing sets.

Love this place. Nice walks and hikes in some beautiful woods and mountains that hug the coastline. Views are for miles when you are at the mountain sumits and the Mt. Batty Watchtower. Great to get away and take in the salt air and views. Take a drive up the Mt. Batty auto road if you can't make the hike. If you are into camping then you should have a stay at the state parks campground. Really nice and close to Camden, Rockport and Rockland. This place is a great jumping point to a lot of local excursions, whether you want to hike, fish, shop or just explore the coastline. There is a great deal to do nearby. Shops and cafes too.
Belfast City Park offers a variety of amenities for visitors to enjoy. Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the swimming pool and sport courts, while those looking for a more leisurely experience can relax at the picnic tables or let their children play on the playground. The park also boasts scenic walking paths perfect for a stroll or jog. Overall, Belfast City Park is an ideal destination for families and individuals seeking outdoor recreation in a beautiful setting.

I'll never travel to Bar Harbor without this trip planner again
A 2.5 mile walk through the woods to Barred Island. The views are unreal and the path is fairly easy but there are a lot of roots so wear decent shoes. Pay attention to low tide times so you are able to walk across and enjoy.
Doug Garrett — Google review
Excellent trail with a unique landscape at the start (a lot of moss along the ground). The trail isn't hard, I saw allot of family's hiking it in sneakers though there are some muddy spots as expected. Roots and rocks to walk over. The views of the ocean at the end are nice.
Joshua Poisson — Google review
The most important thing to know is you have to park in a small lot then there is a mile hike to the island. If you come to a Y in the road you've gone too far. The good news is the hike is beautiful. Decently defined trail with boardwalks to get you through a few wet spots. Once you're to the water it is just 100 feet of sand bar to the island. Make sure if you wait for a later low-tide you leave enough time because the hike gets pretty dark in the dense woods.
Adam Peterson — Google review
Easy and relatively flat trail. About 1 mile from parking lot yo Beach. Beach is really interesting and you can only enjoy at low tide. It creates Bridge to Barred Island. Barred Island is small but beautiful

A 2.5 mile hike on a carpet like trail that is all but covered in tree roots. Rewarding photo opp features when you get to the water. An adventure the whole way through and very well marked.
Bill Edwards — Google review
Beautiful mossy woods and spectacular coastal views. Be careful hiking as there are a lot of roots.
Bob Bickel — Google review
Great short, medium intensity, hike through lush, moss covered, coastal forest. Once you get to the coast you can find rocky shore mixed with a sprinkling of sand beaches. If rushed you could be out and back in an hour but I'd recommend taking your time to explore the tide pools and beaches along the way.
sphennings W. — Google review
Free parking for this wonderful trail. Room for about 10-15 cars.
Daniel Hefford — Google review
Watch the tide tables and hike out as the tide is dropping, before low tide, if you want to go across the sandbar to the island. The hike through the preserve is a little otherworldly with the amazing moss blanket over the forest floor. Lots of roots and rocks along the trail.
Fort Knox State Park is a historic site that features a 19th-century granite fort and a modern bridge with an impressive 420-ft. observation tower known as the Penobscot Narrows Observatory. This engineering marvel, which opened in 2006, spans over 2,120 feet and stands tall above the surrounding landscape. Visitors can explore the intriguing past of Fort Knox using informative signage throughout the park and enjoy scenic views from the top of the observatory.
This fort is EPIC 🤩🇺🇸

Best views of any Military installation on the East Coast. Fort George Washington is runner up 👌. Massive is size and scope, this fort is simply awe inspiring 😃. A must see if your visiting Maine …MUST SEE. Moving to Maine? call Liberty Bell Moving & Storage for packing and moving services

This state park is amazing and one of the coolest I’ve been too! Not just cool in the sense that it’s interesting but also cool as in cold when your inside the fort which is great on a hot day! This place makes a great summer time activity! When your inside the stone area’s of the fort are like air conditioning with a cool breeze!
When visiting this park give yourself hours of time… there is a ton to see. Not to be missed are the open water batteries outside the fort. As you are walking to the fort there is one on the left and another just past the entrance. They have long descending stair cases that lead to multiple rooms that were used to heat cannonballs sufficiently enough to ignite wooden ships! So cool!
Inside the fort there is a grassy inside area open to the air/sky and then the perimeter or enclosed area of the fort is all walkable , even the roof which is grassy.
As you walk through there are these really cool hallway that ascend with steps . There are windows to your right and on your left there are different rooms you can walk into. Some were quarters for the workers to stay in or rooms that they would gather and eat.
There is a display in one room showcasing how they produced gunpowder in the fort and even a huge bakery! Like i said there is enough to see to spend hours there! Bring your camera/phone , there are really cool photo opportunities and the fort it’s self is amazing to photograph as well!
When your done at the fort head over to the Penobscot Narrows bridge and observatory! It’s the tallest bridge observatory open to the public in the world! A very cool experience! The bridge itself is a beautiful view but once you take the elevator up 420 feet you’ll have 360 degree views of the Penobscot bay area. Just don’t look down when you step of the elevator… yikes.. that’s a tough one for the stomach! It’s a long way down!
They have viewing from all four walls that are entirely windows and there are great displays showing you all you are looking at, like the mountains, towns, rivers and the bay. Very cool and educational!
I definitely recommend a visit and remember it’s a perfect thing to do on a hot day! Enjoy!

Really cool place to explore and such beautiful views. We went for Fright at the Fort. We drove 3.5 hours and unfortunately the haunt was canceled because of the recent shootings in Maine. But we still went and visited the Fort and explored the grounds. Some parts of the Fort is spooky all on its own. Maybe take the trip next year and try again.

Well worth the trip. There are a lot of stairs and no lighting inside but it is an intriguing look into the past. The signage is very informative and the views are great. The gift shop is filled with interesting objects, books, and shirts. They are currently decorated for Halloween which is fun. There is plenty of parking. There is a beautiful park surrounding the fort with plenty of picnic tables.

Fascinating place. We just happened upon it while driving from Bar Harbor to Portland. The bridge is a true sight to see. Beautiful river view from a very high vantage point. We went up into the viewing tower and we’re rewarded with an expansive view of the valley.
We then toured the fort and enjoyed the historical experience. This location was well restored and maintained.

Really cool experience! The observatory is the tallest in the world and an elevator ride up to the top. Awesome view. We stopped for the observatory and decided to also walk around the fort which, if in the area and you have time, you should do. It's a really cool fort and would be an awesome (and potentially disastrous) place to play hide and seek! Anyway, there are plaques of information at all the sites around the fort. You can walk the whole fort in around 1.5 hours with stops at all of the sites. It was cool to envision what it was like moving around the fort in the 1800s. My girls really enjoyed the rooms and space to run around in the center and on top. Really interesting place! Glad we stopped!

Really cool walk through history you can take at your own pace. It was a foggy rainy day so the fort was nice and cool inside, but the tower offered really no view (we were warned of this but decided to go up anyways). Highly recommend stopping for a bit!

I went here on a last second decision and it is definitely a highlight of Maine. Beauty meets history in an incredible experience. You would be able to go for just the fort or the observation tower and still have an incredible time! All of the staff I interacted with were so nice and they had so much information to share. We went on a self guided tour and we were very pleased. Would recommend to anyone.

A must visit!!! The observatory view is amazing and given the weather, we were able to see all the way down the river bank. The park is dog friendly, however the observatory does not allow pets. So, if you are traveling in a group, it is possible to take turns while the dog stays down stairs. My favorite portion is the fort itself. There is a path around the fort, plus 2 stairway entrances on the exterior (A and B) the view is incredible and with easily accessible chairs worth taking a rest at!

Narrows Observatory, nestled amidst the picturesque beauty of Maine, offers and unparalleled experience for nature enthusiasts. Our visit to this gem left us in awe of the beauty of Maine. The bridge is an architectural marvel and we enjoyed learning about the history from the friendly staff who truly care about it. The panromantic views were spectacular especially due to the changing of leaves and you can see for miles on a clear day. The ticket price for entry for 4 people was $36 - a small investment for the priceless memory created. A must see!

This architectural wonder is a must-see for anyone traveling through the midcoast region. Just a stone’s throw from Bangor, the observatory at the top of the tower of the bridge offers 360° views of the surrounding towns and out into Penobscot Bay. The interpretive signage is professional (and accurate) and the cost to go up is minimal (especially if you’re a veteran: $2.50). The bridge is adjacent to Fort Knox, allowing a combo ticket to be purchased for both venues, if desired. Take some time to have an ice cream from the gift shop and look out at the placid river. Great summertime stop!

You will cross this bridge as we did taking route 3 from Augusta area enroute to Bar Harbor. We actually crossed this bridge for first time about 3 yrs ago. We also went up inside the tower to the observation floor. The bridge is an amazing site and very high off the river below. The construction amazed me as I was in the construction and design field before retirement. The towers are all native granite and the tallest in world that you can actually ride to the top in an elevator. I have gone up in the elevator to the observation deck and the elevator is very smooth riding and quite fast actually to that level. The views from the top are panoramic and amazing. The suspension cables are enormous in size to support this bridge. As you enter the tower, you will see a compass etched in the granite slabs outside the entrance. The craftsmanship of the etchings and the entire bridge structure are amazing! I feel this is a must see to drive across and go up the tower. There is a nominal charge to ride the elevator up the tower. When we went we paid to get into Fort Knox and the bridge tower at the gate to get in.

A neat impromptu stop on our trip up to Acadia. The bridge itself is quit a sight, and you can stop to take a trip to the top of one of the towers. The view includes several nearby towns and beautiful landscape. We did wait in line for some time, as they were only letting one party up at a time, but it was worth it. Also worth walking around Fort Knox next door to experience the history.

I have been waiting to go up this tower for years and it was neat. The views are outstanding. We were there at peak fall colors and it is gorgeous. I used to live in Bucksport and watched the bridge be built so it was cool to see the town from that perspective. I wish there was a little more history of the old bridge or more information on the engineering of this bridge. But you can't beat the view and that is exactly what your getting. Try to get there on a sunny clear day for the best view .

We drove by this beautiful cable stay bridge on the way to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park.
The design was modeled after the Washington Monument, which was built with a granite tablet from this area inscribed with Welsh.
It was constructed in 3.5 years starting in 2006, replacing the Old Waldo-Hancock Bridge which in 2003 was found with cables too damaged to repair. The old pier foundations can still be seen in the river.

Fantastic place to rent kayaks for single or multi-day trips in the beautiful Stonington Archipelago! We rented kayaks for a 3 day/2 night camping trip and got great advice from the owner which islands to check out and which ones to avoid
We ended up on Wheat Island for both nights and even saw a Porpoise on the way! (kind of like a dolphin but it's technically a whale :) Had a wonderful time!
Cut short your time in crowded Acadia National Park and come here instead to see the real thing with hardly anyone on the water or on the islands!

We booked two excursions with Old Quarry and both were excellent. We did the Harbor Tour, which we had adapted so that we could stay on Green Island for a couple of hours and get picked up later in the afternoon. The swimming hole there was a lot of fun - but bring bug repellent!! It was easy to schedule and worked out well. We also did a sailing lesson for 6. In both cases our guides/instructors were just great (Hutch and Sherry). Very friendly and knowledgable and made everyone happy and comfortable. My brother and his son also rented kayaks from Old Quarry to use on their own and they were very happy with the experience.

A good time was had by all! My wife & I went on a 1/2 day paddle this past Sunday. Our guide, Norris, was top notch. Knowledgeable, friendly, well prepared. Equipment was well maintained, facility is very well organized. We are mid level kayaker's, but not too experienced in sea kayaking. Norris was very easy to learn from. HIGHLY recommended!

Been going for years. Bill is as friendly as always. Bill loves paddlers, either with their own boats or needing to rent one. Perfect for kayaking the most scenic paddling on the east coast. Bill has a fresh water pond for rolling or self-rescue practice. You can paddle out and stay on an island for an overnight and then return to the camp ground for a hot shower and go into town for a nice meal. Always clean and quiet.
I highly recommend this out of the way jewel of the Maine coast.

We rented kayaks and did a half-day tour with our four kids. Bill was super friendly and accommodating with our younger ones. Rebecca (at the desk) and our guide, Kristie, were fantastic-- fostering independence with the kids, encouraging them when they were tired, setting up kayak games to help with their skills and geocaching on the island, educating us re edible plants and hidden wildlife. Fantastic experience... would highly recommend Old Quarry OA.
The Cole Land Transportation Museum is a charming establishment displaying an impressive collection of vintage cars, trucks, farm equipment, and military vehicles. For a very reasonable price, visitors can witness the world's largest indoor collection of snowplows as well as other forms of transportation such as bicycles, tractors, trains, semis, busses, campers and motorcycles.
I was much more impressed than I thought I'd be. The price is very reasonable for all you get to see. The museum claims to have the world's largest indoor collection of snowplows. They have bicycles, tractors, trains, semis, busses, campers, scooters, motorcycles, just about every imaginable form of transportation. I spent about 2 hours here but I would imagine most would spend a bit less. Plan on one hour bare minimum.

So much history! Galen should have been proud to gather all of that history together! Loved the variety of transportation types. Loved the snow plow history especially. So neat and for a small entry fee was a great way to spend a couple hours.

We’ve driven by this place dozens of times and we finally stopped by for a visit. It was awesome! The kids loved all the big vehicles, especially the large train. There was a scavenger hunt which kept the kids busy and plenty to see. Definitely worth the price of admission.

Amazing collection of all kinds of land based transportation machines from huge road snow blowers to sleds and sleighs to toboggans. You'll see the evolution of delivery trucks from horse drawn to modern 18 wheelers. They have a fine collection of fire trucks from horse drawn to the more modern. They have rail cars and a diesel locomotive. There is an extensive military memorabilia display. There are restored cars dating from the 1920's up. This is a must see museum for all ages.

Really worthwhile to stop in here if it moves as some sort of transportation it is here. Was pleasently surprises at how interesting it is. Easy to walk through places to sit and videos to watch. Seems you can arrange for tours for groups. Enjoyed our visit.

Far more in this museum than the outside size would suggest. A fascinating look at Maine's snow removal, firefighting, train systems,, and more! Knowledgeable staff, clean restrooms, plenty of hand sanitizer... Truly worth the trip

Not much to say about this museum other than it is absolutely awesome. My kids love coming here, and we've been a few times with more to come. Very affordable, kids are free, so it's less than 20 bucks for my wife and I. Do the scavenger hunt, you'll easily spend more than an hour admiring everything.

It is an excellent high quality museum with hundreds of land vehicles on display.

Its so much more than what we thought. History mixed in with the transportation and train cars with video regarding the history of the area including transportation and thigs you could watch. We spent a couple of hours here but probably could have spent longer. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable

Lovely place for kids. I used to go to museums like this as a kids. Looking at the slice of life in different times is always fun. Good if you're on a road trip and need an hour or two to kill check it out.

If you are in Bangor I would recommend stopping in. The cool thing before we even started looking, they give free walking sticks to combat era vets, so both my spouse and I received one. Also, they have clipboards listed easy, medium and hard with pictures on them to have a scavenger hunt for items around the whole museum. Our 11 year took a medium one and she found everything, she loved doing it. We also took one and it added to the overall experience. The 2 sections I really enjoyed were the fire department aisles and the military section of a few vehicles and artifacts dating from the Civil War to Desert Storm. Worth the stop!
I could just feel Pennywise was going to get me! 🤡🤡🤡

Fantastic statue! No close parking so I took pictures from the street. If you are near Bangor, it is worth the drive and if you have the time, casino is across the street!!!

I made it here after a long day’s road trip drive. It was cool and everything I imagined! Major thing was how there wasn’t a parking lot. I wondered what people do during the day when they arrive. I parked nearby and just moved my car after I was done snapping a few pictures.

Just the 31-foot statue. There was no plaque that I could see. And of course, there is a no climbing the statue sign. No bail money, so I refrained.

This is a very well made statue of that great lumberjack Paul Bunyan He stands eather thirty one (31) or thirty two feet tall (32). Parking is not close so I parked across the stree in the Circle K parking lot that has a sign for Circle K customers cars will be towed at customer expence. Sincce it was a Sunday afternoon I took since I was only there fir about 10 minunits. No Babe the blue ox.

I was told a must-see was the Paul Bunyan Statue in Bangor, Maine.
A short trip by car from the charming downtown, we found him.
Unfortunately, not easy to find a place to park to take the picture, for it is a busy intersection for one of the main highways
In any case, fun to see. .now want to read more about his tall tales.
Kathy Condon — Google review
We had to check out bih Paul on our first time ever to Bangor! I'm comparing this ole guy from my Minnesotan upbringing - home to many a handsome PB statue - and as a long-time listener of the tales. Also, as a reader/viewer of Stephen King stories while in Bangor, it was fun to imagine if this statue would come alive like in 🎈It!!
Jennifer Corley — Google review
This is a quirky statue that you would think you could only find in Maine, however, Paul Bunyan is in other cities as well. The Bangor version is quite high and seemingly randomly located next to a medical building. Why? I am not sure. But it can be fun to try to find him while on Main Street.

Delightfully creepy and odd, this is a brief must-see for fans of Stephen King's "It". We parked behind the Cross Insurance Center and walked around to the statue on a rainy Saturday. It's much bigger than you expect.

It's just a fun stop while out seeing the sights in Bangor. Wish we could have gotten a picture with our truck in front of the statue, but unless you stop on the main road, there is not a good way to it. The area around the statue is clean and well kept.

Myself and a group of my coworkers arrived in Bangor, tired and late at night. The next morning we woke up to find ourselves in the heart of Stephen King's country. It was rainy and grey the next day, but that didn't stop any of us from wandering around. The first thing we saw after leaving our casino lodgings was the Paul Bunyan statue. Naturally, we wandered over for photos. Much later, I would hear about how the same statue attacked characters in Stephen King's novel It....I can see it now.

This is an odd statue it just appears and it is so much in the middle of no where. But Paul is so big it gives me the shivers. Very manly too with his flannel shirt and full beard. However, the green jeans make me question things.
The Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway Bangor is a contemporary establishment that features warm rooms and suites along with a casino, racetrack, and three dining options. It is recommended to use the booking website HE. as they typically offer cheaper rates compared to others. This hotel is highly regarded in the area and has been a favorite for years due to its well-appointed, spacious rooms featuring comfortable king-sized beds.
Remember to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴏʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ when booking any hotel. They compare countless booking websites and typically will have rates much cheaper compared to others! You're welcome :)! This hotel is one of my favorites in this area. I've been staying here for years. If you stay for a few nights you will love it I'm sure!

This was a surprisingly great place to stay on business! I was extremely apprehensive due to it being a casino but was impressed with the tastefully appointed rooms. I was in an accessible so it was fairly large (I did not book this though). The room was very clean, I really can’t say anything there. The staff at the desk were friendly and I went to eat at their restaurant for dinner which is on the non-21 side/off the gaming floor. The food was great and the service from Drake was outstanding considering how stretched thin they were with a fairly large crowd of people likely living beyond their means dumping their social security at the casino. The location is right downtown within walking distance to other restaurants if you do not feel like people watching the high roller losers combined with feeling like you’re in a nursing home. The only negatives I have are my room was literally equally close to both the ice machine and elevator; combined with high roller wannabes the noise from the hallway was rough, I just used my phone for white noise no biggie this is what I get for staying at a casino. The other issue was that the air conditioner was not working. It was hot in the room so I called the front desk, they gave me some instruction and to call back if it didn’t work. It didn’t so they said they’d call maintenance to come take a look, which they never did however it naturally cooled down so no biggie anyways. I’ll stay there again!

Me and my friends lived here for two nights during our trip to Acadia National Park. It's about 1 hr drive to the park. Large parking lot and free parking if you live or play here. You won't be panic with finding a parking lot. Affordable price to live here. But just be aware that the Casino close at midnight.

Easy check-in & parking. Friendly front desk person. My room was fantastic and economical. The room had everything I needed and more. Clean, comfortable, and roomy. I stayed in Bar Harbor last night for much more and got much less. I don't understand any of the bad reviews. We travel all the time and this is a great hotel.

Friendly staff, very helpful. Casino is clean and not as crowded as many casinos. Bartender was nice. Plenty of parking. Rooms seemed to have changed since the pandemic (Covid 19), just seems a little cheaper than previously. In room safe and fridge. No microwave in the room. No vending machines for midnight snacks. Toilet paper at Bagel Central is better.

It was so much fun! It was just the right size. I could wander around and play whatever I wanted and still find the person I came with easily when I wanted. The card system was great! It accumulated points that I used for a meal. AND not only did I have loads of fun playing, I came out with more money than I brought. I am from out of state visiting family. I will definitely visit this casino next time I visit Maine.

Always a fun experience, set your limit and you will have the time of your life. I go a few times a year and the place is full of entertainment with slots and card games. I highly recommend trying out Hollywood Casino. If you choose to stay the hotel is really nice. The restaurant on the first floor is also amazing. Every time I've been win or lose I have had such a good experience. So if you're in Bangor and looking for something entertaining to do and the perk of it all is you just might win! So good luck to you and enjoy your gaming experience if you choose Hollywood casino. As a local guide I try to write about positive experiences and I don't typically write about places unless I have had that.

Over all nice small casino.. Shockingly they sign you up for the "rewards" program-card. Had it for years got 0 comps, even when we visit 5 times in a month which is extreme for my habits. Then waiting 4 hours for a Black Jack table and left with out playing.. better luck next time hollywoods.

I was actually pretty surprised how big it was in here, looks can be deceiving sometimes! There was plenty of parking, the casino itself wasn’t packed (although I was there around noon on a Wednesday) and staff was attentive and helpful. They had a good (not great) variety of slots, and a small table game area as well. I only stayed long enough to lose my money haha but would definitely be willing to go again and see what else they have to offer. It didn’t seem much smaller than Oxford, actually very similar in design and layout but I was impressed for a casino in a small town in Maine.

I’m a 32 year old grown married man with a kid and I was asked to show my ID 5 different occasions, some by the same casino employee. There’s an extremely poor liquor selection and you cannot order shots, most cannot even be served over the rocks. There’s a nice amount of slots to choose from but the popular ones are always occupied by the same people, for hours on end, notably the dragon cash machines towards the “high limit” area. Not many “high limit” machines to choose from while on that topic. If you aren’t playing a higher limit machine by the way, you’re likely to be passed by the cocktail waitresses. I was sitting at one machine for over an hour and wasn’t asked one time. The hotel amenities are poor, there’s nothing drawing you in the place other than the hallway which is very elegant & decorative. But when you reach the floor you’re met by that dreaded employee asking you for ID. I was told if you look under the age of 30 you need to show it. There’s only one place to choose from for food, which is priced well, but the food is very standard. This was by far the worst experience at any casino I’ve been to. I will NOT be returning nor will I ever recommend a friend or family member to endure the poor experience of this “casino”. Zero stars if I could.

Came in to town for a concert. The room was good, and the restaurants were good. But the people in the Casino were a little over Zealous. I wanted to get to my room from the main road out from and was given a hard time about it. There should be an entrance on that side that has room access if you don't want people going thru that was. Otherwise, just relax and take care of your customers who are paying good money and don't want to be harassed over a hot dog.

Hotel was nice but starting to show it's age. Only microwave in lobby area. Lots of homeless around outside hotel. Walking around is at your own risk. Casino was very small compared to other Hollywood casinos.
Only place I have been that the chairs are bolted to the floor. One size fits all, it was very uncomfortable to play. Good luck getting anything to drink when on game floor. Very few servers walking around.
Lady pit boss was very rude.

Cozy, laid back atmosphere. Quiet rooms. The atmosphere in the casino is laid back, with plenty of options to choose from. Slots start off as low as 1-5 cents a pull. No start off fees or minimum play. It's definitely worth the price for the night or just to stop by and play some slots before heading to your destination.

The loyalty system is REALLY messed up.
Nobody really knew what they were doing.
We had some points but we couldn't use them
They kept peddling this phone app, which is kinda pointless because its for PLAY money. Fake money. Why advertise that in a casino where you can gamble REAL money? Its bizarre. What is weirder, is that you can use your point play and use it to get FAKE coins in the app. WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT!?
I tried to speak with a manager, I was given a phone number. I called it, no reply.
A bit of a disaster to be honest.

Hotel is empty, not a ton going on for night. Asked for an upgrade with the hotel being empty. Told they are "fully booked", with a empty parking garage and no tour buss or large scale event on a Monday night? Are you sure? And the kitchen is closed Monday and Tuesday offering a $5.00 credit. Is that what dinner value is worth when it is open? And great view of the roof!

Room was billed as "city view" but overlooked the roof and side of the parking garage. Other than that minor, minor issue the room was exceptionally clean. The front desk staff was welcoming and friendly. Casino staff were friendly, too. If you check out the restaurant by the casino, I strongly recommend the fish tacos, they were far better than I had anticipated.

Came to town for the Loggers Expo. Hotel is clean and comfortable, price was really high for that weekend. No breakfast or self serve coffee bar, you need to wait in line for the host to pour an 8 Oz. Cup from behind the counter... I would prefer to pour it myself.
Casino staff was nice, slots? not so much.

I had an amazing week at Hollywood Slots Casino Hotel and Raceway. The hotel is top-notch with spacious, clean rooms and attentive staff. The casino offers a fantastic variety of games, from slots to table games. Dining options are diverse, and the food quality is excellent. There's also live entertainment and thrilling horse races at the raceway. The amenities like the pool, spa, and fitness center are great for relaxation. I was extremely disappointed with my experience at the Hollywood Casino. The room was far from clean, as evident by the presence of someone else's sock left behind. To make matters worse, the bed had noticeable stains, making it clear that cleanliness is not a priority. This experience left a lasting negative impression, and I do not recommend this hotel based on the lack of room conditions. Completely grossed me out

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT pay the extra money for the suite with the hot tub in the room , the tub is weak and old and doesn't really have any pressure , the bed is HORRIBLE!! overall it's a decent room but not worth $425 ! could've gotten a room at residence inn for half the price! water pressure in the shower fluctuates temperature and pressure. i will give them credit on cleanliness, but the parking is too tight in the garage as well overall just not very impressed and likely will never stay at this hotel again and if i do it'll be the less expensive room for sure

After a nice day in Bangor our group decided to stop in to play some slots and black jack.and there was an issue with my ID. Never had an issue before and always used the same ID. After being told very loudly they need to call security to look at it , was refused by the security saying they couldn’t accept it. Security was extremely pompous and rude . The picture of little man syndrome. Not sure how this guy got his job but his people skills are seriously lacking. Our whole group left. I’ve always enjoyed visiting Hollywood slots but I will not be back. I will be going to Oxford casino in the future. I feel really bad for anyone that has to deal with security Bobby B at Hollywood slots. He’s not a good representation for a business that deals with the public.

The lowest consistent table limits for any legitimate casino Ive been to. Friendly pit bosses and dealers, good table drink service. Small but they have a good variety of table games and your typical slots. I would say more table game variety then some larger venues.
You dont have to spend a fortune to have a good time. Will certainly be back!

We stayed for a couple nights here during the winter storm. Most of the town (Bangor) was out of power and stores are closed.
The check in & check out process was fast and the staff was professional. We got $5 store credit per day during our stay.
Spacious room, working fridge, and strong water pressure! Very clean overall.
However the AC was not cold, feels like the heater always on. The pillow was also a bit small.
The casino was okay. Nothing special, the atmosphere was lacking and a bit gloomy.
The waitress was nice and accommodating.
The restaurant inside the casino was hectic and service was a bit slow because they were understaffed. Food was ok and fairly priced.
Big free parking building with a EV charging port (Tesla Wallchargers) for free.
Overall 7/10

I am a larger person with very wide hips and unfortunately did not fit into the sears I had purchased. The boat tour company Island Cruises provides a great experience with informative and entertaining guides. The scenery is amazing with plenty of wildlife to see, making this an unforgettable experience.
This tour is wonderful. The owner is a local celebrity. He knows the island well. I debated if doing another boat tour out of Northeast Harbor would be a waste but I’m glad I did both. They are different enough. The other has a ranger on board who knows a lot about many great things. This one has a local on board that knows many great things also but knows this island even better.

Our family enjoyed this tour a lot. We loved that our captain/guide was a local who shared facts and stories from personal experience growing up in the area and on the water. They were very thoughtful and considerate in how they ran the boat making effort to avoid spray from hitting passengers while traveling and in turning the boat in front of points of interest so that people sitting on each side of the boat could see easily. It was the perfect length to accommodate kids and we loved the interactive part of when they pulled a lobster trap up on the boat went through the process of checking the lobsters. Overall we saw seals, lots of birds, lobster, and a really cool fishery. Definitely wear a sweatshirt as it was cold and windy out on the water. Would highly recommend!

The tour was awesome! The tour guide and his wife are incredibly knowledgeable. They make sure everyone on the boat gets a good view of everything, so don't worry about not being able to see. Every seat is a good seat!
We saw harbor seals, lots of birds (cormorants and others), and bald eagles. The seals were very cool!

Highlight of our trip. Very informative wildlife tour - we saw multiple bald eagles, sea lions, seals, and numerous birds along our route. They also had some lobster traps laid out so we got to see the process for identifying 'legal' lobsters, crabs, and sealife. It was also cool to go right next to the salmon fish farm and see the salmon jumping out of the water!

We had an awesome afternoon out on the private sailboat charter with Rowan as our very knowledgeable and experienced captain. He taught us a ton about sailing and answered all our questions. The vibe was chill, fun and relaxed. The water was beautiful. We sailed close to the Bass Harbor lighthouse and also saw some porpoises. Definitely recommend this adventure and this company.

Great group of people! They worked with us to get me and my family on the water during a beautiful, sunny day. The captain was very friendly and accommodating! He did a great tour of the surrounding island and we saw lots of wildlife. Great fun for us and the kids! We will definitely be joining Island Cruises on our next trip to Maine!

The Nature tour was awesome. Captain Eli and Robin are knowledgeable and caring caretakers of the Maine Coast and the Lobster Industry. Great history, science, geography, and geology are all provided. Visit a light house, seals, porpoises, birds, salmon farming, and haul in some lobster traps while riding around in a boat - What could be better! This is the best tour like this I have ever taken, even with the fog, which just added to the Downeast mystique.
The Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is located on a rugged sea cliff overlooking Bass Harbor in Acadia National Park. The lighthouse is still operational and provides stunning views of the bay. The grounds around the lighthouse are open to visitors, but you are not allowed to visit the lighthouse itself.
Amazing view from the rocks at the end of the trail, but do so at your own risk. If you do try, check the tides first as low tide is the best time. Also, this is a probate residence so be respectful

Stopped to see this lighthouse on the south side of the mountain. It's about a 30 minute drive from Cadillac Mountain. It's a small lighthouse but it's s in a picturesque setting and the drive allows you to see a good part of the island. We enjoyed our time there.

Beautiful sight. Lovely scenery. There is a small parking lot which can fill up fast, especially during tourist season. The lighthouse is ok, but with the rocks and the waters makes for a nice picture. Overall it was a nice, quick stop. It's an iconic and often seen lighthouse in photos of the Maine shoreline.
Ketaki Toye — Google review
Pretty little lighthouse .. emphasis on little. Was expecting something a bit grander. That being said, was still very pretty. Best view, in my opinion, is from the trail at the far end of the parking lot. You can climb down some rocks and see the lighthouse from the bottom. Definitely worth a trip.
Steve Meyer — Google review
Nice bit of history learning the this is the only lighthouse accessible by car! You cannot go inside but can view the lighthouse from both sides... Small parking lot but there are bathroom facilities available. Wear those shoes if you want to take pictures from the rocky shoreline on the left side. Be careful. Not interesting for young kids.

Great for a quick 30 minutes to 1 hour stop. We visited two short trails on each side of the harbor. Both sides were just a quick stroll away. The trail to the right will bring you to the base of the lighthouse. However, at the left trail, you'll have to step out to the rocks by the sea, which was somewhat challenging, in order to see the lighthouse. The ranger stationed there was friendly and was giving out nearby Maine attraction guides for free. She said that the lighthouse was not open for the public to get to the top.

A fun little journey took about a half an hour to walk down the trail on both sides of the lighthouse. The wait in line to park was longer than the actual journey itself. We had a beautiful day and enjoyed our time here highly recommend.
Scott Bye — Google review
Absolutely stunning views from the east-end trail viewing up to the lighthouse. We were standing there with photographers capturing the sunset, which I can highly recommend. Be mindful that parking is very limited and the road leading towards the lighthouse is almost always full of traffic. I recommend parking that the Wonderland Trail Head and walk beside the road from there.

This lighthouse is a great gem of Acadia. An easy walk will get you an amazing view. The secret is to look at the far end of the parking lot and take that trail. It’ll take you down to the rocks in front of the lighthouse. It is truly breathtaking! You have to go
Carl Adam Ekblad — Google review
Bass Harbor Lighthouse is an iconic site to see. It is not in Bar Harbor proper but about 30 minutes away. It is worth going.
It is not possible to go into the lighthouse or even to get really lose to it but the view of it is stunning and, again, 'very Maine.'
There is very little parking but since there's not much to see, parking turns over frequently. There are rest rooms.
Be sure to go down the path at the far end of the parking lot since that takes you to the Rock cropping and the iconic views.
Definitely go even if it's raining. We did and it was still great to see.
Tassey Russo — Google review
The view is nice, but I’m not sure it worth all the trouble of waiting for a parking spot. There are very few available and you can’t park on the street as too narrow.
If you manage to get a parking spot after waiting for someone to leave for you to take its place, follow the trail at the end of it and take the stairs toward the sea, to finally take your shot.
It’s not possible to visit the lighthouse. It’s a private property. It’s been converted to automated mechanism in 1974. A large board explain the history of it.

Very nice quiet place to visit. Note that there is no parking on the roadsides leading up to the lighthouse parking area. The parking area has maybe 15 places and 1 handicap accessible parking place. The handicapped parking space is in the first row of spaces closest to the ocean and farthest from the entrance to the parking lot. The way it works is you drive up to the parking lot and if you see an open space in either of the 2 rows of spaces you go for it. If the lots full which you can see from the entrance to the lot or in our case there’s already cars lined up on the entrance road. You wait at the entrance to the lot and if a car leaves your next to go take the open spot. We didn’t really wait that long and actually it’s pretty easy just wait til a car comes out and in you go. While we were waiting on the entrance road there was a 10 point buck grazing 15 ft from our car at the edge of the woods. The deer didn’t seem least bit scared to graze and watch us, however it’s not hunting season and you couldn’t hunt in this area anyway so he knows he’s safe. If you walk to the farthest part of the lot away from the road, there are restrooms available and a trail down to the water to the right of restrooms. The trail is good and the stairs going down to the ocean are very well built and sturdy, solid as a rock. When you get to the bottom of the stairs there are stone natural steps further down to the ocean. Beyond the stairs the steps vary in height and ease of making your way down or up. If your not to steady on your feet there are observation decks part way down the stairs with views of the water and the lighthouse. It’s a very scenic and peaceful place at the lighthouse.

We got to the Lighthouse shortly after sunrise, only one other couple was there. It can get very crowded especially around sunset time, and there is limited parking.
As a young / fit couple we had no problems going over the rocks or down the stairs, however one does need to use caution though! Can become very slippery and some of the rocks are very uneven to walk on.
Besides that, the view of the Lighthouse is beautiful! :) Definitely worth making a stop to see it.
Emilee Hunter — Google review
Beautiful, iconic lighthouse seen on all the postcards and shirts and merchandise from Acadia. However, the best iconic view is down several stairs, over some slick risky rocks down almost to the water to look up and get the best view. You can walk down to it from the parking lot more easily, but it's not as impressive view even if you can get right up to it. The parking lot is super small. There was a line of cars backed down the road, just waiting for cars to leave. Several people just got out of their cars and left a driver while they went down to take a look, take photos, then walk back to the car still stuck in the line of traffic and to leave and not wait for a parking spot. I highly recommend checking this light out, especially if you can get down to the better view safely.
Kevin Howard — Google review
This photogenic spot is very popular with photographers. A gorgeous view of a lighthouse perched along the rocky coastline. this is Maine, which you see everywhere, this iconic lighthouse.
After parking your car, you walk down a short path to get up close to the lighthouse and panoramic ocean views. - that is where the lighthouse is- and that's it.. it stops there and I was wondering where people take those iconic photos?
so I went back into the parking - and there is a small walkway going in the left direction (near the restroom) that takes you down (mind it, it's rocky)... photographers were already there with their setup where normal people won't go. it's a bit dangerous.
From Bar Harbor, it takes over 30 minutes to drive here. Along the way, you will pass Echo Lake
Parking: This is another trendy place to visit in Acadia and the parking lot is tiny.

Get Ready to Scramble.
The trail down to the rocks can definitely be slick after rain and is not ADA accessible. Wear good walking shoes and take your time
The trail to the right is slightly more accessible but is steep.
Fee for Park.
Parking is limited but we were able to park at about 6 pm on a Friday.

This seems to be the Iconic place everyone wants to visit. I arrived with my wife late evening right before sunset when almost everyone was ready to leave. Parking will prove to be difficult during the day, as there is only a small parking lot of 30 spaces or so with 1 road to access in or out. Expect to park further away if coming during the day. I feel the best time to visit this iconic landmark is before sunrise, and before sunset. Don't forget to take bug spray or the mosquito's will feast upon your soul.
A selection of heritage rail stock takes visitors up & down this historic line closed in 1957.
So wonderful my husband decided to take us all out there for some relaxing fun. Take the train ride it is wonderful and scenic way to see a beautiful part of Maine. Family from Texas was out there!

This tour was so interesting! The volunteers were very nice and incredibly informative. I learned so much about the history of the area and the railways. The seats were comfortable and there are bathrooms on the train cars. There were some great Fall views, but a lot of the tour involves going through the town, so less leaf viewing than I had hoped, but the information more than made up for it. We also got to see some Osprey nests!
Elizabeth Dunaway — Google review
Fun ride, especially for a family activity. Train staff seemed to enjoy what they are doing. Train is slow and spends about half the time stopping and turning around, so bring a relaxed attitude and some refreshments.
Devon Fernandez — Google review
Got some great fall color change photos. It was a good experience. The volunteers were full of history and information. FYI the train ride includes several stops to reverse the engine and switch tracks, so you aren't moving the whole time.
RVacationer — Google review
Excellent narration and the volunteers conductors and staff were wonderful. Unfortunately, the route itself is not very exciting even if it was part of the historic Bar Harbor express from Philly and NYC. I have been on many of the narrow gauge RR trips in the U.S and this does not compare favorably (and it's not narrow gauge either for that matter). Fortunately it was not a major investment of time or money and though I love supporting railroad restoration efforts, we will not be taking this ride again. A nice thing I that we could take our dog with us and there were 3 other dogs on board.
David Every — Google review
I highly recommend this ride if you're looking for something fun to do around Ellsworth.
The volunteers were amazing and very knowledgeable about the history of the train and railroad.
The cost of tickets was worth the ride and scenery.
I only wish we had gone faster than 20mph.
Christopher Poole — Google review
Unless you have a strong desire to "just ride a train", I would skip this. This basically went nowhere scenic; travelled behind a bunch of houses in Ellsworth (felt like back alley tour) and spent 1/3 of the 1.5 hour tour turning around. 2 stars for the friendly staff. If you do go, take your own drinks and picnic lunch.
Rick Day — Google review
Had a great time I just wish we went a further distance than we did. But it being mainly done by volunteers it was quite amazing
Janet Geiger — Google review
Pros: Volunteer staff was extremely friendly. They made sure everyone was comfortable and had all their questions answered. It was neat to be on an old train. Cons: Not very scenic. Spent more time stopped while they changed the tracks to accommodate our journey. Even when we were moving it was a very slow place. Perhaps I had expectations in my head of scenic views and this ride just was not that.
K H — Google review
3 stars for such a friendly and welcoming staff. However, calling this a "scenic" tour is a stretch. You are stopped for at least the trip and basically take a very slow stroll through Ellsworth. I took a picture of the best part of the trip for you. Enjoy

Really had fun taking this historic train ride. All the staff and volunteers really make sure you have a pleasant and positive experience. We learned about the railroad and got to experience what riding in an authentic passenger car is like. Great deal on the tickets and wonderful ride for our young son. Definitely recommend this experience.
Edward Parks — Google review
We had a great ride in a former Maine Central Railroad coach on the Downeast Scenic Railroad! All of the volunteer staff was extremely friendly, and it was well worth the $20. Don't go into it expecting spectacular views of mountains or the coast, because that isn't what this is, but if you're there for a relaxing train ride, and to learn about some railroad history, you'll have a great time!
Sam Shirley — Google review
The staff were exceptional !— especially with the children on the train. They made sure that everyone was comfortable, and that no question was left unanswered. The route wasn't especially scenic, except for some woodland and wetlands, but they are hoping to open up an additional 11 miles of track, which would take riders well out of the urban area of Ellsworth. Even without that extended ride, the experience is a good time for all.
Rich Simons — Google review
It's really great to see these restored old trains running. You'll get a history lesson along the ride from volunteers who love old trains. Be sure to ask to see the 470 steam locomotive currently being restored. Really cool stuff.
Mt. Desert Island is a large, beautiful island located off the coast of Maine. It is home to a number of villages as well as part of Acadia National Park. The island is known for its stunning natural beauty, which has drawn millions of visitors each year. Activities that are popular on the island include hiking, biking, and following nature trails.
The island has got to be my most favorite place in the world. It has everything from small beautiful towns to amazing hikes and long trails

We come up here almost every year. Boring? Maybe. Or maybe we just found the perfect laid back, outdoorsy, dog friendly place in the USA to unwind and recharge.
The Hulls Cove Visitor Center is the perfect place to start your Acadia National Park adventure. The center has a huge scale model of the park, informative rangers, and short introductory videos that will give you an in-depth overview of everything you see and do.
We walked up a lot of stairs to reach the visitors center to get a ticket. After we were pulling out of the parking lot we saw there was an upper level parking lot available...lol. Acadia park was beautiful, crowded but we could find a pull over now and then and the vista's were beautiful.

We were not exactly the early birds, arriving at 11 am on Thursday (after 2 hours drive from Camden)
Found a parking spot after a couple of circles around.
Bought a private car pass for $30.
You are supposed to display this pass while your car is parked.
Then we started driving on the “Park loop”
Nowhere to park along whatsoever. Not at the lake, not at the stables, nowhere.
We basically just drove around the island, seeing nothing.
The we got back to the parking lot, and had a short hike to the Witch Lake (to get to the hike/bike path, walk backwards along the bust stops)
If not for the hike, I would give 1*
Basically wasted the whole day.

The Acadia National Park is such a beautiful place. There is so much to do and so little time to do it. There is hiking, going to the beach, sightseeing, and so much more. I recommend going early because the parking lots fill up pretty quickly. I love the bus shuttle. It brings you all over the place! Be careful of the schedule and route. We got on the wrong one, and it drove us the opposite way. Thankfully, the bus driver was nice enough to bring us to our destination. She went way beyond her route, and we were so grateful. At the information center, you pay the fees, get the maps, and if you need extra information, there are rangers to help you. There is even a jr Rangers booklet for the children. Acadia National Park , I highly recommend it!

Staff was great and answered all my questions. There are 52 steps to get to the visitors center, so if you have a handicap placard or plate, use the back road to get up there. (There is a sign indicating the direction.) Cute little souvenir shop too.

Great visitor center for a great national park. The rangers are incredibly helpful about Acadia’s trails and other activities. You can find countless souvenirs and maps here. It is also a convenient hub for the free bus services throughout the island.
Beware: you’ll have to climb over 50 steps to get to the center!

Pretty nice place with lots of easily understood info and very helpful Rangers to answer questions. This place does get very busy so highly recommend coming early. Good place to stop for info on hiking as the roads and trailhead locations can be hard to find.

Great place to access the carriage road trails for free (i.e., without paying to get into the park) but also the place to get your park pass. Good free shuttle access to the rest of the park and Bar Harbor. In fact I would say it could often be a better alternative to park here rather than Bar Harbor, particularly if you are doing both Acadia NP and Bar Harbor.
Knud Hermansen — Google review
Super, super busy with a tiny gift shop. If you don't need to go I'm for anything in particular, don't! It's 54 steps that you don't need unless you need the restroom or have questions. The staff are super helpful as are the people down by the Island Explorers routes. They also have a kiosk to get passes rather than going up to the actual center. I recommend doing this as you can then go put it back in your car.
Samantha Ross — Google review
The visitor center I thought was OK, but in need of a bit of tlc. The bathroom facilities at the visitor center is not sufficient for all the visitors.
The park itself is really amazing and one could spend hours and hours there, walking cycling, driving around.
Anton Richter — Google review
The visitor center is where you start your Acadia adventure. Buy your ticket and get a park pass to put in your windsheld. Cost between 20 and 30.00 unless you have a national park pass. Then go on the loop or walk the carrage trail that starts at the visitor center. Be sure to stop and see all the out of this world sites. It was cold and rainy when I was there but still stopped to look around. Make sure to do a junior ranger program. They are free for kids of all ages and you learn a lot.

Get there early or you might have trouble finding a place to park. You can catch the bus there that takes you around the island. There is a few stairs to climb to get to the visitor center to get a park pass and to the gift shop. Everything moved pretty smoothly at both places. Even though alot of the park is dog friendly they are not allowed in the visitor center.

Cadillac Mountain is a 1,530-foot peak that offers a well-marked trail with informative plaques and expansive vistas at its summit. It stands as the highest point within a 35-mile radius of the North American Atlantic coastline and was initially known as Green Mountain before being renamed in honor of French explorer Antoine de La Mothe Cadillac in 1918. This mountain provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, making it a popular destination to witness sunrise.
Well worth the early rise and the ride up to see the sunrise.
We beat the crowd and the need to make parking reservation by going in early May.
Beautiful few minutes that you would not want to trade for extra snooze time or coffee in the morning.

Nice drive up to one of the best views in the park. Getting sunrise tickets is extremely difficult. Sunset tickets are easier to grab. Really hard to hike to the top but it’s some great hiking on the way up! Definitely worth doing!

We missed the sunrise but that didn’t matter much! The first sunrise on eastern side of the U.S. from here is only a few months out of the year. The views from here are incredible! It’s breathtaking! You have to climb a bit on rocks to really get the full impact, be adventurous. There are walkways too for those afraid of heights. It’s best to have sneakers with some great grip, bring sunglasses and pack up the sunblock. The parking is kinda tight. There’s also restrooms and a store for drinks and goodies. Enjoy it!

It’s truly a beautiful view from here! We visited off season so didn’t need reservations, but during the season (usually end of May through October) you need a separate permit to drive up to the summit.
Seeing the sunrise from the top of Cadillac mountain is a beautiful (albeit cold) experience. In my opinion it was totally worth getting up at 4am for. If you end up doing that, bring a blanket and then head over into town for some great Maine breakfast.

The highest peak on the eastern seaboard of the United States was beautiful. I am more and more afraid of heights as I get older and this was a very doable experience. We drove to the top which required a $6 reservation in advance. We were able to book it the day before once we knew the weather was going to be good. The top of the mountain is relatively flat which allowed me to walk on most of the walkways and enjoy the views. There is a gift shop at the top of the mountain that has a special stamp for your National Park Passport but make sure they are open before you head up to the top so you are not disappointed if you miss it.

Cadillac Mountain: Breathtaking Acadia
Cadillac Mountain, located in Acadia National Park in Maine, is a stunning destination that offers breathtaking views and a memorable outdoor experience. As the tallest peak on the East Coast of the United States, Cadillac Mountain attracts visitors from all over the world. Here's an amazing review of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia:
Visiting Cadillac Mountain was an absolute highlight of my trip to Acadia National Park. The journey to the summit was an adventure in itself, with winding roads and scenic overlooks along the way. Once I reached the top, I was greeted with the most magnificent panoramic views I have ever witnessed.
The sunrise from Cadillac Mountain is legendary, and it's easy to understand why. As the sun slowly rose above the horizon, the entire landscape was bathed in a golden hue, casting a magical glow over the mountains, forests, and lakes below. It was a truly awe-inspiring sight that words fail to capture adequately.
The observation deck at the summit provided ample space for visitors to enjoy the view comfortably. I found myself lost in the beauty of the surrounding islands, the vast Atlantic Ocean, and the charming town of Bar Harbor in the distance. It was a serene and peaceful experience, and I felt like I was on top of the world.
Three things that you should do on this mountain are
1. Watch a Sun Rise
2. Watch a Sun set
3. Stargaze
Viswa Bharath — Google review
The weather was cloudy during our visit and the mountain top was crowded as can be expected for a popular destination. Online reservations are required in advance to enter the road to the summit to reduce overcrowding. Total cost per car is $6. Recommend booking at least 3 days in advance.

A mountain formed by a volcanic eruption in bar harbor, maine. A great spot to do star gazing, in the late evening you may see a few people with telescopes to explore planets.
You can drive your car up there. It is windy and open are, be careful if you have kids along with you. You will also see people running the trail. Being at such elevation gives you a beautiful view of the areas around from top

Absolutely stunning! And a must do. Get up early and plan accordingly!! We were unable to make the appointment to drive up…all good. Set out alarms for Early and started the hike to the summit at 3am. Gave ourselves 2 hours of hiking in the pitch black! Take flash lights for everyone.
And dress warm as when you reach the summit it will be early and cool and breezy!
Such an amazing experience that I will never forget!

This is a great location and the 1st place sunlight hits the US in the morning. The mountain isn't all that high and there are numerous hiking trails to the summit and a road/parking area. Anyway the view is just amazing at the top. I will say that with the road it gets extremely busy and you need an Acadia National Park pass to access. Note that during the 'season', which starts May 25th through September you have to go online to reserve a day to drive to the summit to see the sunrise and there is an additional fee. It's very much worth the hassle to make the online reservation and the cost to see the sunrise if you can't or do not like hiking. I've done this twice (hiked once and drove once) so posted pictures of good i.e. clear skies and a rather disappointing cloudy day.

I love to drive up here in any weather. Been here 3 times just this year experiencing different weather. The 1st time i went was to watch the sunset, the second time was summer we went for a sunrise watch and in fall, 😅😅 we had zero visibility due to the incoming storm that day. But a must visit when in Acadia National Park.

Lovely drive. Once you get to the summit there's ample room to explore. Walk the paths or explore the bedrock - just stay clear of the other areas.
If you go during peak season make sure you have reservations!

Definitely worth the effort and time to get up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. The views were absolutely incredible. There are several trails that you can take moderate intensity hikes. When we reached the summit, it was fogged in, but the fog cleared within 30 minutes and the results were fabulous revealing Beautiful views of Bar Harbor and the surrounding area of Acadia National Park. Don’t let bad weather slow you down. Remember reservations are mandatory, you pay six dollars per car regardless of how many people are inside.

A must-visit gem within Acadia National Park, Cadillac Mountain comes highly recommended. To secure your visit, make an advanced reservation through the NPS website, especially if you're planning to witness the sunrise, as these slots fill up quickly. We opted for a sunset view, which was truly spectacular.
Regardless of the season, don't forget to bring a jacket as it can get quite chilly and windy at the summit. Parking is plentiful, and the panoramic views, encompassing Bar Harbor and the surrounding islands, are nothing short of spectacular. Be sure to add this to your itinerary and book your spot in advance for an unforgettable experience.

It is beautiful here, but don't go before May. The bathroom is not on the mountain. We searched for a long time to find a bathroom when we were hiking, but it was a bit difficult to describe. There is a small town about 20 minutes away from the scenic area, but because it's not the tourist season, many stores are not open for business. Many of them will only open for business on May 11th. If you go before this time, you need to prepare some snacks and enough hand sanitizer.

Cadillac Mountain, located in the Acadia National Park and probably one of the highest points of the east coast, is an incredible place to visit. There are many hiking trails to go up to the summit however we decided to drive and we weren't disappointed when we got there. The spectacular views are breathtaking. Wow!!! We had a beautiful sunny but windy day. I presume it's always windy at that height. There are also restrooms and a small gift shop at the top of the mountain. The air up there is so fresh and pure!! We really had a great time and I highly recommend it. Really worth the drive!!

You have to pre-purchase the ticket online. It is by vehicle size. The drive is amazing with several stops to view and take pics. The parking at the top is ample, and the views are worth it. You can walk out on the rock ledges for grea pics. The walks are fairly easy. The top is set up for people of all physical abilities. Great place to stay for hours. It's first place to see the sunrise on the east coast.

What a spectacular place, can be reached both by hiking and driving. Drive to the summit is of around 4 miles.
Go for booking a slot for sunrise but if you can’t make it, plan the summit so that you can spend some time till sunset. Sunset on other side of the mountain is as beautiful as sunrise.

Watching the Cadillac Mountain sunrise is a bucket list activity that does not disappoint! The view from the summit for the sunrise is jaw dropping and is by far the best place to see the sunrise on the East Coast! Make sure to book the Cadillac Mountain sunrise tickets months in advance and when you are up there find a private spot to be the first people to witness the sunset in America!

I've visited 27 National Parks. This one is closest to me. Sunrise at Cadillac Mountain is a bucket list item. It DID NOT disappoint. It'll move you. Passes to see sunrise from this location book out months to even a year out. BUT, from October 15 to December 1, weather permitted, the sunrise is open to ALL. No pass is needed. We took advantage of our close proximity to cash in on this one in a million sunrise. I can't recommend enough if you have the opportunity to get up there and see it. Just dress warmly. I can not stress that enough.

Great excursion! Make sure you make a reservation online ahead of time, but it is so worth it. Restrooms at the top, and little gift shop, and a variety of trails for all skill levels.

It is always a treat to go up, always a surprise how our weather changes so quickly. A wonderful place to draw or paint , though there is often a bit of an audience that gathers.

I'll never travel to Bar Harbor without this trip planner again
The Shore Path is a lovely route to walk along the coastline that leads into Bar Harbor. The trail commences on the street running from Havana eatery and culminates at the town's center. There are numerous stunning residences along the way, and several areas to perch on rocks or benches. In addition, visitors can see Balance Rock, a well-known landmark, as well as a park en route. The path boasts picturesque scenery and provides an opportunity for tranquil exploration.
A nice out and back walk. We were there at low tide. It was great to walk along the path after eating.

Excellent easy trail along the coast line ending at the main street wharf in Bar Harbor.

Beautiful path. Loved walking on this path and taking in all that my senses provided. Highly recommend the views here. Very serene.

Nice walk at sunset. People sitting on the rocks.

A wonderful stroll on the Bar Harbor shore. There are benches closer to the park and few to none towards the end. It's a flat and at least 5' wide in most parts. There are plenty of places to climb down to the shoreline.

Beautiful path along the beach in Bar Harbor. One of the prettiest places we’ve ever visited!
Beth Roach — Google review
Beautiful 1 mile path walk along the shore. You can hop down and play or sit on the rocks by the coast or just sit on the benches.
Victoria Goodwin — Google review
Very nice place to walk along the shore leading into bar harbor. It starts on the road that leads from Havana restaurant. And you can walk all the way into town. There are a number of gorgeous houses along the way and places to sit on the rocks or on benches. There is also the famous balance rock and a park.

Very cute, anyone could walk the trail. If you keep going at the end it wraps back around to the main street!

Super views of the Acadia region. Well worth the effort. Moderately strenuous. This region offers it all for the outdoor enthusiast. Mountains, lakes, dramatic vistas and the ocean to play in...bring your camera. Grab some lobster/crab meat at the Winter Harbor docks and have a picnic at the top, or at Schoodic beach at the bottom. Oh and Bar Harbor is usually crowded if you get lonely.
Mark Brown — Google review
Short but steep hike. Took us an hour to go the 1.5 miles from Schoodic Beach to the peak. Amazing 360 degree views.
David Schulze — Google review
Nice hike and wonderful 360 view at top
Plus nice lake and beach you can easily build into the hike
Bill Mott — Google review
Absolutely love this hike! It inclines quick but is still every bit of the 2.5 miles it says. Amazing views at the top on a clear day. Clear view of Acadia National Park. Awesome view of windmills and also foliage during autumn. It has a beautiful beach at the bottom that you should take some time to admire. My favorite hike in a while!
Patrick Drake — Google review
Nice steady moderate hike through the woods. The top has a fire lookout house, and is completely bald, so you can see all the mountains and ponds surrounding you, and you can even catch a glimpse of Acadia National Park.
QuinnFord — Google review
Somewhat challenging hike/climb, although at 1.3 miles from trailhead to summit, it can be easily completed in three or four hours. It took me 1.5 hours up and slightly less down although I certainly did not rush and spent some time looking around.
There are some pretty steep sections that require strength and agility, although no advanced climbing equipment or techniques are required.
Like any mountain climb, the views are the payoff and Schoodic does not disappoint. 360 views into pristine (except for the horrible wind farm in the distance) Northern Maine: Cadillac Mountain and Mt. Desert Island towards the South; fantastic Eastern vistas across to Black Mountain and Downeast costal Maine.
The trail is fairly well marked, although I did find a couple of spots confusing since the trail could have gone either direction in the absence of trail markers.
On the way down you have an option to take the Donnell Pond trail or go back the way you came. Donnell Pond is a great swimming spot and is only about a half mile away from the trail head.
I wouldn't take kids, pets or anyone not physically able to climb steep, mountainous terrain.
Nick Holt — Google review
Steep hike but wonderful views and a lovely spot to go swimming after. I wouldn't personally bring my kids or pets but have seen it many times.

Beautiful views. Great hiking trails. Even a Jeep rock climbing course for the 4x4 folks. Sorry no mud.
The Schoodic Peninsula is a scenic promontory that spans over 2,266 acres of Acadia National Park. It is renowned for its lighthouses, particularly the candy-striped dream in West Quoddy Head. The peninsula offers stunning coastal views and boasts quieter hiking trails such as Alder, Schoodic Head and Anvil which showcase prehistoric rock formations. The air is filled with the delightful fragrance of Northwoods mixed with salty sea air.
This was our favorite part of Acadia National Park. The pictures are from the East Trail, our favorite. Parking is tough, because there is room for only 4 cars across from the trailhead and it's a one-way road so you can't backtrack if those spots are full. We went in mid-October when the crowds were gone and most businesses had closed for the season.
Be sure to visit the Schoodic Institute. It's a beautiful building and has an interesting history.

Best place to get away from the crowd. We cooked our dinner at a picnic spot and watched the sunset. Would visit again to miss the crowds.

For me, this is the most magical part of Acadia. This is based on visiting at seven in the morning on a Saturday, noting that there were at most a half dozen cars that I saw in about a two hour period. Lots of varied terrain and solitude for contemplating life's meanings 🐦⬛

Don’t miss this place if you are in Acadia . This is outside Acadia . A place worth visiting for the beautiful scenic views .
Mohita Chaudhuri — Google review
Much better than the loop Road in Acadia. It was not crowded and there were many spots to pull over and take pictures of the water and rocks. Visit Winter Harbor on the way and see the fog that hangs around town. If you are from the northwest, you will think that it looks like a snowstorm coming in. I thought that was why it was named Winter Harbor. However, I was told that it was because the Harbor is deep and doesn't freeze in the Winter months. A nice break from the crowded craziness near Acadia/Bar Harbor.

Was a pretty place, definitely worth seeing. Unfortunately, my visit was during a thick fog and missed a lot of its coastal charm.
Zachary Cain — Google review
Great hiking trails and less busy/crowded compared to the main Acadia NP area. Definitely recommend checking out the sights here!
Steven Beisswenger — Google review
Beautiful place for a driving tour with pull outs to stop and take in the view. A few short hiking options. Uncrowded and quiet. Recommended in the late afternoon to sunset.
Erica Cousins — Google review
Schoodic Peninsula, specifically Schoodic Point is spectacular. Pictures and videos can not capture the stunning and unique beauty of this place. The rock formations there are natures masterpieces. This is the most beautiful and amazing landscape that I saw in all of Maine.
Sharon Doyle — Google review
Just unbelievably beautiful, much quieter than the main part of Acadia. Enjoyed the hikes on Alder, Schoodic Head, and Anvil trails, with incredible views, huge rock formations and a prehistoric feel in many sections. Northwoods fragrance mixed with the salty air from the sea.

It is beautiful with spectacular sunset views at either Frazier point or Schoodic point
Bike trails and places to go kayaking makes it one of my favorite campgrounds on the east coast

Highly recommend!!! This tour was my whole family's favorite part of the trip. We did do the private charter and it was worth every penny!!!! Captain Jamie was an excellent host for our day of adventure. He was extremely knowledgeable and managed to make it around the fog to allow us some amazing sights! The islands we passed were beautiful! We saw harbor seals and a couple grey seals! An osprey nest was also a highlight as we arrived just when they were feeding the young ones in the nest! We got to see a variety of other birds – eagles, peregrine falcons, loons, terns, eiders, and the elusive (that day) puffin! The puffins were on my bucket list to see and we had to ride around a bit but finally found a few through the fog! We also got to experience hauling up lobster traps which was neat experience that we all enjoyed. Then we got the treat of eating the lobster we had just hauled up! We would gladly do the trip again if we go back to Maine! If you are thinking of booking, go for it – you will not be disappointed!
Kelly Wonderly — Google review
Our trip was incredible. The views from the boat were amazing and captain Robertson was very informative on the history of the different islands and lighthouses. Definitely add to your list of top things to do while in Maine.

We did the 2 hour lobster tour last week and loved it. Father and Son captains were great. Pulled a bunch of pots, helped them catch many lobsters, bought some to take home, really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.

We had such an amazing tour with Robertson's Sea Tours. There were so many Puffins and Arctic Terns, and the trip itself brought us through some beautiful scenery. The boat was just the right size, and we were well taken care of. Highly recommended, it was a trip highlight.

Captain Jamie was an amazing tour guide! My husband and I had such a wonderful time on the Puffin & Seabird tour! Hands down, this was the best boat tour we've been on in Maine. We especially loved that the tour group was very small too. We highly recommend this tour - you won't be disappointed. Thanks again, Captain Jamie!
Beth Ang — Google review
Amazing tour ride! Jamie was very informative, providing us with his knowledge on the migration of the Terns and Puffins. We saw a lot of seals soaking up the sun on warm rocks, Bald Eagles fishing, and an osprey nest, there was just too much to list here! Highly recommend using this tour guide, he takes small groups of no more than 6 (I believe, don't quote me) so it was very relaxing, and easy to take photos and videos without a bunch of other people pushing for the same view. The Petitt Manann and Naraguagus Lighthouses are so beautiful and Jamie provided some information about when they were in operation/how they operate now. Overall great experience. A+ across the board. Now, go book yourself a tour!!

Amazing tour! Jamie was welcoming, informative and made the trip special for us. Great communication to set it up and prior to the day. We saw lots of puffins, an osprey and many other birds, seals and he pulled up lobsters and gave us a close up of a hermit crab. Highly recommend this special family business!

I had a great time on the puffin cruise! The captain was great and very informative. We saw seals, a peregrine falcon, an osprey, and so many puffins!! I loved every minute of it and would recommend to anyone visiting the down east area.

Captain Jamie Robertson runs a great tour service. They have several regular tours that you can choose from, depending on your interests and schedule. Or, you can charter your own trip. We took the Puffin tour two days ago and it was GREAT. Saw many Puffins up close, as well as other sea birds and mammals, and the Petite Manan Island lighthouse. Also, Jamie was great taking us to see other interesting sights going and coming. Excellent value and a fun time. Check out their website.

My wife and I took the tour to Petit Manan Island to see Puffins. Wow! A great tour on a well built lobster boat (550 hp Cummins Diesel, will get up and go) with Captain Jamie Robertson. Only six people is a "full boat" so the tour is intimate and a chance to get to know the Captain and fellow passengers. We saw lots of Puffins, other sea birds, seals, and wonderful views of the other islands in the Narraguagus Bay. The Captain even pulled a lobster trap to show how it's done. If you're going to take a Puffin tour, take this one. P.S. YES, there is a toilet on board :)
