It was an amazing experience! Since my childhood, I have seen several educational and other institutions organize tourist outings to the Citadelle Lafferiere. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to participate. People come from all over the world to visit this marvelous site dubbed the 8th wonder of the world. Becoming older, I made the decision to go there at the next opportunity that I find. And I did! It's incredible when you imagine how this fort was built in the middle of the 19th century on top of a mountain! Amazing. I hope to go back again to continue admiring this incredible construction. You who have not yet gone, only your eyes will be able to make you understand what I am talking about.

The Citadelle Laferrière is one of the most remarkable fortress in the Americas and was built over 200 years ago in fear of a second French invasion. You can scale it on foot for free from the small village of Milot which takes between 1-2 hours depending on your level of fitness. Alternatively you can charter a mule or whizz up and down with a moped rider for the most part of it for $10 US (including reasonable waiting time). If you arrive on Tuesday you can experience a number of unforgettable voodoo ceremonies en route.

The walk is a bit long so I road a horse up the hill. The experience was unreal. How in the world was this world wonder built?

The Citadelle Laferrière is a very fantastic historical monument in Haiti, it is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Haiti. Every year, thousands of people came from many different countries to visit it. I was very excited the first time I visited.

Beautiful piece of History It's a much go U can take a horse ride to climb. Be aware that they will want tips Have change on you. They are a bunch of locals selling stuff... They can be a bit insistant, though

As a Haitian born in the US, this was the first time I came to Cap-Haiti. This was the best experience I've ever had. I learned so much! Can't wait to go again.

I went to Citadel twice. Great for everyone, especially if you're Haitian decent. You will learn a lot. I do suggest walking all the way up. Take the motorcycle or truck halfway. Then the horseback. TRUST ME!!! You can thank me later.

Wonderful place. Beautiful landscape. You can walk, it's a good hike. If you want to take a horse it's 2000 gourdes almost 15$ US (round trip). Then you have to pay 10$ US to visit inside the Citadelle. And we had a tourist guide it was 20$ US/ pers (that includes the tour of the Palais sans souci ). People from the village keep soliciting to sell souvenirs etc...so be prepared...

It's mind blowing how Roi Henry Christophe and co. pulled that off. The architecture is out of this world. Every single spot is a piece of art, it's like walking through a Van Gogh gallery. I'd suggest to the trip all the way up there by walk at least once, it hits different.

The 4 mile hike up is definitely worth it to learn about this historic fortress the Haitians built by hand to guard their land!! The scenes are beautiful from 3000 ft above sea level!! The hike isn't easy but I promise it's worth every drop of sweat!!

The Citadelle always bring tears to my eyes. Reminds me with the right leader we can accomplish so much. But it also shows our lack of training for leadership and dedication to making Haiti our priority. This is my 5th visit and I can probably visit another 5 more times. BTW, don't walk up or down, just pay the $10.00 for the donkey! Enjoy the Citadelle Laferriere...

Paradise on earth, the first pool, where the waterfall is, is 75ft deep.

Deep blue pools of beauty and bliss. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful navigating the trail. They helped take our phones/cameras across the water too! We jumped off a waterfall, swam in three different pools of water and had a blast. No need to spend hours and hours here. You may need a guide to get you to the village first. Totally worth it!

Such an amazing place!! The views on the drive up are incredible, the hike is beautiful, and the water is so gorgeous and refreshing. Our guides Mackenzie & Luckson were the best! They picked fruit for us to try while we were hiking and they helped us across the slippery spots. We purchased fresh coconut once we got to the last waterfall and it was delicious! Make sure you ask about the mermaids that live in the waterfall. There is a store at the beginning of the hike that sells beautiful art. This place is a must see if you are in the area!

Very beautiful place, would recommend it to anyone local or foreign. The water is so blue, really deserve its name “Bassin Bleu”. On top of it, it’s affordable. We get a guide to take us there, they got safety vest for those that are not good swimmers. We enjoyed the walking and hiking part to get to the main waterfall. Come experience it for yourself

It's a long drive to get there and the road is rough. When we got there the nice guide told us it would be a 10 mn walk to the falls. It wasn't... It's quite a walk and it's very slippery so you need to bring the appropriate footwear and your sense of adventure. Once we got there we found out that the drive and the trek were worth it. IT. IS. BEAUTIFUL. the only downside was that it rained the night before so the water wasn't blue. But we had a great time!!

This is a fun trip is you are ever in Southeast Haiti. It is about an hour drive outside of Jacmel through the hills and along some mountains. You will definitely get hit up by the guides for some extra money despite paying ahead of time. There is opportunity to jump off a waterfall if you should so choose. No food or drinks along the way, but there are drinks at the top and entrance to the attraction. Be prepared to walk on very uneven terrain, rock climb down without harnesses, and cross creeks and rivers that can be flowing fast. It is not recommended for less able bodied individuals. This is not ADA accessible.

Be careful in this place , especially for the guide , if you see anyone's helping you , ask him what does he want ? If not they will ask for money even that they didn't announce themselves as guides , they'll probably read what already marked to you on the rocks , it's more like a reading lesson be careful

The museum is nice. It has a good collection of artifacts and paintings. Unfortunately you cannot take any photos inside. If you visit make sure to go around the garden and perhaps visit the restaurant in the back garden.

Learned quite a bit of history here. The restaurant was closed for renovations. There's a nice garden area in the back for pictures. If you don't speak French or kreyol, be sure to ask for a tour guide to walk you through the museum. And of course, no photos allowed inside.

Was not destroyed in 2010 earthquake! A large number of historians believe Haiti was the first place Columbus landed in the Americas. The museum covers more than the slave revolution and does an excellent job tracing the history of the Taínos and Taino artifacts, There is a section of the museum which shows the brutal life of a slave with original chains. What sets this museum as a gem in the Caribbean is the display of the original anchor of the Caravel of Christopher Columbus, the Santa Maria measuring 4 meters high. A MUST SEE in the history of the Americas!!!

It was very nice get some thorough Haitian history. When we arrived we were greeted with fresh cane juice with the option of adding really good Haitian rhum. They also demonstrated the actual operational water mill. The grounds outside the museum are also beautiful but our tour was a little rushed due to poor scheduling on the tour companies part so we didn't get to explore as much as we wanted but it was still nice. The tour manager was very apologetic and understanding and offered proper compensation.

If you're unfamiliar with Haiti's history, this is a great place to get your first overview. The layout of the property and building's interior is very nice. And the artifacts are very interesting. It's not large, but give yourself enough time to look and ask questions. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. And don't forget to bring cash and exact change - they have a cute, little gift shop.
