Easy to visit. Just catch a local bus 8mxn fee, a small walk to the museum. I waited in line to buy a ticket less than 5 mins. Nice place to know another story of this city!

Interesting museum, definitely a must do. I wish there was more information in English. Fairly small museum so it does not take long. Nice walk to get there from the center. Visited in a Sunday and it wasn't too busy.

The place is very organized. I recommend you follow a guide if you want to learn about their history ,why and how they were place there. Interesting fact is that the Museum is actually under a cemetery!

Really nicely put exhibitions. The wait can be long so we visit just before closing. They offered a guide for a tip. That now I think is encouraged if you would want to know about every mummies. I would say that almost the majority of them have some brief description. Once inside it could be around 20 to 30 minutes. Remember to ask for the photo permit at the window since it's at an additional cost.

I went back to visit this place after 30 years. I always like to see the mummy's and the stories behind the events. I recommend this place. It's better than Egypt. The whole city is amazing and lots of culture and all the tunnels and hills are breath taking scenery.

Less than $5 for entry. Plan on spending 30 minutes to view the entire museum. The Mummies of Guanajuato are a number of naturally mummified bodies interred during a cholera outbreak in Guanajuato in 1833. The human bodies appear to have been disinterred between 1870 and 1958. During that time, a local tax was in place requiring a fee to be paid for "perpetual" burial. Some bodies for which the tax was not paid were disinterred, and some—apparently those in the best condition—were stored in a nearby building. The climate of Guanajuato provides an environment which can lead to a type of natural mummification, although scientific studies later revealed that some bodies had been at least partially embalmed. While a bit creepy, I enjoyed learning about the history of the mummy collection (100+) and the history of the area.

It's ok. Small (which is fine). I'm sure it was only a few cents more to go to the second museum, but it was underwhelming. Instead of letting the bones and mummies stand on their own, they added a bunch of Halloween type stuff. Silly. I would have enjoyed it more had there been more stories or even just more descriptions of the years they were buried and exhumed. The cemetery behind is large and worth seeing if you haven't spent much time in Mexican cemeteries. Chaotic and interesting.

The line was super long, over a 2 hour wait. I think I would have had a better experience had it not been for the line. Glad I got the experience but I wouldn't wait 2 hours again. The museum it's self is small, you are in and out in 20- 30 minutes at most.

I totally amazing adventure through the beautifully presented Museum of the mummies. A fairly intense experience as many of them have been so wonderfully preserved.

An intensely grotesque must see experience. It's not for the feint of heart. The smallest mummy in the world, a 6 month old fetus, lies inside. I would say maybe 30-50 mummies are inside. They are well preserved with hair, skin, and nails intact. Don't miss it

I have visited the Museum of the Mummies of Guanajuato many times and have always had a great experience. The museum is home to a collection of naturally mummified bodies that were discovered after being exhumed from graves in the Santa Paula Cemetery in Guanajuato, Mexico. The mummies are one of the biggest tourist attractions in the state and are displayed in the museum for visitors to see. Every time I visit the museum, I am amazed by the history and preservation of the mummies. The museum has over a hundred mummies in its inventory, each with its own unique story. The origin of the mummies dates back to 1865 when the first mummified body was exhumed from the Santa Paula Cemetery. This body belonged to the French doctor Dr. Remigio Leroy. From then until 1958, more mummified bodies were discovered due to the special conditions of the subsoil of the place, combined with the presence of nitrates and alum. I have taken many friends from all over the world to visit the Museum of the Mummies of Guanajuato and they have all been fascinated by the collection. The museum is located on the esplanade of the Santa Paula cemetery and its origin dates back to the discovery of the first mummies in 1865. In its early days, the discovered mummies were stored in the catacombs of the cemetery, which could be visited accompanied by the gravedigger. Very cool place! Learn so much about the history of Mexico. While tours are not available in English, the Spanish tour guide was very detailed and would be happy to answer any questions. The guide was free in Spanish. Cool place and really gets you thinking of the history the city has.

The museum does not encourage the level of respect these human bodies deserve. The parents of little children should encourage them to behave appropriately. These are not haloween dolls. The coffin at the end of the exhibit for taking fun pictures with the Instagram hashtag should be removed. Otherwise, it is a once in a life experience that brings you closer to the true nature of human existence.

Super intense creepy yet oddly compelling. The dear little mummy babies are so moving & sad yet it's impossible not to feel fascinated. A fantastic museum.

Exploitative. While the mummies are kept in a climate controlled environment, their preservation is suspect. These PEOPLE are being displayed as curiosities, propped upright with limbs sometimes reattached with tape (incorrectly) to be viewed. If an individual or family could not pay for burial services for the years required (a tax in place until 1958), remains were exhumed and if naturally mummified by the conditions, were added to the collection for display. Which means that there are potentially people alive today, whose relative is on display at this museum. Do not buy the full package for $120 pesos. It includes an additional room that is meant to be ‘scary.’ Here, bones are scattered and displayed as though the individual has been tortured, a so-called vampire has a stake through the heart, and a full skeleton is on display. A note for the museum, because I hope you see this. That skeleton is completely wrong. You have a cervical vertebrae in the lumbar region, the entire pelvis (the inominates and the sacrum) are upside down, one femur is upside down and they have been incorrectly sided, you have metatarsals as phalanges, and ulna and radius in place of a tibia and fibula and a fibula up with the humerus. It would take no time to fix this - and images of how to properly lay out a skeleton can be easily googled. This was a person. Have some respect.

It's a must-see when visiting Guanajuato, it gives an insight into the town's history, how bodies are naturally mummified due to the soil and weather conditions in the area, plus other factors. My only complain is with the people visiting, many kids and families go there thinking it's a spooky ride or haunted mansion, which it is not, so if you visit with kids please have some respect and let the tour guide speak instead of interrupting every time, these are real bodies, your level of respect sould be equal to when visiting a cemetery.

It's a good place to understand a lot of things about humans. But I think that if you have claustrophobia please don't visit this place. Lol. It's a place to visit once a lifetime.

I was there on Tuesday morningng and there wasn't any line. As for the mummies, I don't know what to think of it. Most of the mummies aren't very old and were dug out only a couple of years after their death to make room for the new cadavers because there was no one (or wasn't able) to pay to keep the bodies in the graves.

Beautiful view. A fun ride up the tram. Tons of vendors at the top to buy souvenirs anurse and lots of guides to tell you the history. Definitely worth definitely worth checking it out and at least seeing the view. Lots of different alleys & shops to explore.

Beautiful panoramic views to a colorful, unique city! You can get there by a taxi 70 pesos each way, funicular 35 pesos per person one way, or walk. You will be amazed by the combination of bright colors of this city.

Our cousins brought us and parked up along the street to take the trolly down to center and back. Beautiful views and plenty shops and stalls to fill you up. We had our own bottle and poured ourselves over a cantarito.

Best location to overlook the old town of Guanajuato. It’s either 10min walk or 3min cable car. I recommend to walk and you will see well decorated housing along the road. The town is so colorful and we will definitely come back again!

Very nice place to relax at the end of the day. Good vista point too. There are also some vendors up here. Busier during the weekends. Use the funicular to get up here. Or don't use the funicular, take the steps and get some exercise😂. It's hard though.

Worth a trip to ride the tram, see the monument, and checkout the views. The overall experience was less than an hour. Nice break.

What a monument! What a view! Not only that but there are convinient vendors all around to enjoy a gordita and refreshing drink (that's a cantarito). All while enjoying the picturesque city below. Definitely take the tram and enjoy!

Very large statue of the first hero of Mexican war of Independence. The statue has a large viewpoint located next to it, there are also many vendor stalls behind it but do bring cash as the vendors do not accept credit cards and i did not see an ATM up there. The statue can be accessed for a nominal fee, something like 30 pesos, but there is not a whole lot inside and the viewing area is a claustrophobic glass cage with poor ventilation.

Busy spot on a weekend, tourists of all types. Fabulous views from the monument and surrounding areas. Lots and lots of vendors for local souvenirs

We were dropped off at the top and then took the funicular down. It's a must do when your in Guanajuato. The view is spectacular and the photos come out awesome.

Best view in the city. Must see. Ps, climbing to the statue is totally not necessary - doesn’t see much more over there for $5.

Definitely a MUST, whether it is during day or night I doubt there's another spot from which you can enjoy such a nice view of the city or Guanajuato. Near there you can find a lot of typical Mexican snacks I had a "Guacamaya" which is a "torta" (sandwich) made out of pork rinds with avocado, tomato hot sauce lime and it's delicious 🤤 ... During night time the monument is lit up.

A lot of history I loved it very clean town. The Museum of Las momias is small. I did a tour for $300 pesos.

While this place has a romantic and yet tragic story of 2 lovers, I didn't care for the long line to take a kissing photo with your beloved and the charge of $ that comes along with it. There are plenty of mining tunnels and romantic backdrops for photo opportunties.

Kissing Alley is an interesting place, but rainy weather can reduce the excitement of playing. This place is really worth visiting, though.

We had a great experience here. Do some homework first and you'll enjoy the experience. Knowing the legend beforehand we and having seen pics we just wanted a photo but over the festival weekend it had hundreds of people in line. We asked before and were told it was mxn $50 to get on the balcony. We deduced immediately this would be mxn $50 each since we would each go to separate balconies. The guy telling the legend and taking pictures with your phone/camera does it for tips and he does it well and takes many great pictures. The fun for us was in the crowd, both watching them as well as having them cheer as we kissed and cheering as they kiss. It was really a great festive environment. If crowded or on the weekends they open the balcony at noon. Just show up a few minutes early and you shouldn't have to wait. It's likely not crowded during the week or when large events aren't going on.

Callejón del Beso holds a special place in my heart. It was the spot where my wife and I felt the most in love with each other. Whenever we visit, we're transported back in time to that magical moment when we shared a kiss on the balcony. It's a memory that will stay with us forever. lol

The legend of “El Callejón del Beso” in Guanajuato says that if a couple visits this place and kisses right on the third step of this alley, they will have happiness for seven long years. But whoever doesn't and passes through the place will have seven years of very, very bad luck. It's an old legend. It's a crowded spot, so be ready to wait.

Magnificent theater in neoclassic eclectic style inaugurated by Porfirio Diaz. Figures at top are from Greek mythology. It’s at the heart of the centro and a venue for many performances.

This building is beautiful and worth the small fee to go in and do a self-tour. My only regret is that we weren't there long enough to see a show. This spot is also the meeting place for many activities.

Beautiful design, unique architecture and peaceful feeling when you are enjoying a good concert. The chairs are not really comfortable and in summer time could be a little hot since there is no air conditioning. Other than that you will enjoy being here.

Don’t stop at the door - make sure to walk inside this beautiful theater and take a look at its ornate decor. While the exterior is impressive, it is worth the 35 peso admission fee to enter. Be aware that it is closed for a few hours in the middle of the day. Also, if there is a performance in the evening it may not be open to visit. We kept our eye on it for a couple days before finally finding the entry open for visitors. Worth it.

I've seen the outside. It's glorious. But- they've been closed for renovations inside since 2022. Any idea when it will reopen for performances? Thanks for any help, I have exhaustively searched and found nothing.

Your experience here will really depend on your interest in Mexican history. This is, after all, the site of the first battle and the first victory in the war for Mexican independence. Surprisingly not the whole museum is dedicated to the battle, or even to Mexican independence war. Half of the building is dedicated to local archeological finds and pre-Hispanic cultures that inhabited the area. the downstairs portion is more or less about the war for independence and Mexican history thereafter. A few interesting frescoes adorn the entrance halls, the artifacts are mostly small and will not knock your socks off, everything is in Spanish.

Fascinating museum, a must-visit to understand the importance of this place in Mexican history. If you don't speak Spanish, ask for the English guide book at the ticket desk.

Nice museum. Very nice pre colombian artwork; too many rooms dedicated to Spanish invasion of Guanajuato state (rich silver mines); no translation of any of the printed info or artwork tags; very nice wall murals in style of Diego Rivera (he was born in this town)

Beautiful building with great staff. The open-air museum was small but interesting and contained historic art from the time of the revolution including very impressive murals.

Children were running and playing, and a new generation stamps their footprints on history. Food carts and vendors offered snacks and toys.

Wow, this museum took me 3 hours to fully experience. Yes, I had to read slowly and translate the Spanish into English pero, there is just a lot to see if you really want to take your time to explore. The building is huge, historic and beautiful in some aspects despite the bloodshed and misery that has occurred here in the past. A must see when in Guanajuato City. If you have the time you have to experience this museum.

Beautiful museum covering the entire Mexican revolution, pre-spanish history, and contemporary exhibits. There are guides available, but we opted to go solo. Entrance is on the Positos road side. Use of cell phones to take pictures is free.

Very detailed account of México's colorful history. The museum is 2 floors with a courtyard in the middle. The history portion begins at the top and goes by different periods in different rooms until you reach modern times. The museum is well lit, with wonderful information and helpful guides. Really a treat to visit. Highly recommended.

Not enough lines to describe what this place represents in Mexican history. Closed on Mondays. On a Tuesday, ask for the guided explanation from the only certified historian. A tip: he will ask what is the meaning of the word "Mexico" in nahuatl. Enjoy!

If you like mexican history this is a really good place to learn more about it. Or just go and sit and watch the people around and eat some snack outside in the explanada.
