Best stops along Riccione to Assisi drive

It is very interesting, especially for the kids. The staff is very helpful (we were late the day when we had the tickets, and they offered us to come next day (for free, cos we already payed once) so we can see all of it and don't need to hurry up.

Nice aquarium, interesting fish and other sea habitants, we and our children enjoyed it there. Recomand it

Two words: Bull sharks. Magnificent beasts. To see them floating around is just mesmerizing. Worth going only to see them. General experience was good also. Nice exhibition of fish, learning new fact and reasonable price.

Larger dogs are not allowed, not even with muzzles - but small ones are welcome, that's really nonsense, as larger ones are far more socialised, and everything is easily accessible.
As there are many tourists, there could be more english panels with descriptions.
Overall the aquarium is wonderful.

Kind of rubbish place. I've been literally robbed: 70 euros for 2 adults and 2 children, when something like this is in the UK would not cost more than £35 with a family ticket.
The place is for most of its part inaccessible to impaired and disabled person. It's also poorly maintained (rubbish everywhere, gums, ashes) and the staff almost unwilling to work.
The entrance was so distressing and unfriendly which I was tempted to run away.
The worse of all is that being on holiday I clearly was not having a printer and the guys were kind of not keen to let me in because they were not able to use their scanner on a mobile device.
An overall visit could last no more than 2.5 hours, with the best being only the one with fishes. The new entry, built in 2016 is kind of joke, with some posters and some plastic animals.
Absolutely not worth all that money. A place like this should cost no more than 7 euro per person.
Andrea Moro — Google review
Our kids they enjoy the tour, they discover and see other creatures in the world. Maybe they can plant more trees on Meadow its too hot.
Kim Milar — Google review
This is one of the most popular place in the area so a little planning is needed!
First of do not visit the park in peak hours which are between 12 - 15.
Come as early as possible or at 16 (plan about 2h to see everything).
Buy tickets online to skip the queue.
Do not plan to eat here as there are to many people with the same idea, instead you can get food at plenty of restaurants nearby that also have better food.
Take your time in the aquarium (blue pavilion) as that us the highlight. People move fast so if you wait a minute you can usually get a great view.
Parking can be scarce in the area so if you cant find a spot you can try to park in the streets and walk there.
Pricing is a bit on the high end but children love it so it is worth it as long as it is not to crowded. Also buyin online the tickets are cheeper by up to 20%
I would recommend visiting the aquarium on a thursday or friday.
4 stars as it was a bit pricey and some areas are a bit run down.

A little peicey, but personnel is helpful, area big offering shade, good location near parking and beaches.
Good for families with kids of different age.
Best one is shark building, only bad it's without wheelchair access.
The dinosaur outdoor area is good addition.
We spent around 2 hours here.
Stefan Kosztolanyi — Google review
We loved the visit. The shark tank is amazing. We watched great white shark so closely. You can get a stamp and return during the day. Outdoor Dinosaur park is also great.

Aquarium Very good although abit disappointing that the walk through tunnel was quite shallow above, so not the full experience of the fish above you. Seemed a little expensive for entry for what was there. Cafe food not that great so take a picnic. The best bit was the looking through the eye of an insect at how they see things, that was amazing 👏

Very nice place for everyone especially for families. Nice aquarium . There you can buy combo tickets with Rimini miniatures. I recommend that

Cute program, paar animal Not have , ticket 21EUR, children 17EUR.
The Memory shop full high price. One normal plüss figure ca 30 cm 28-45 EUR.
So many animal not looking , so many animal just plastic. But unblock beauty Memory, and unforgettable.
The personal friendly, but the buffet. And all high price.
I little bit waiting more, but is ok.
Norbert Bobak — Google review
It is lovely overall but apart from the fish area there is not much to visit in other halls.
with the same ticket you can enter multiple days in the same day, if you wanna see the otters please go early, we went around 4pm and they all went to sleep.
Cool place to visit for children but not stroller friendly because there are a looooot of stairs.
Try to get the ticket online to avoid a long queue at the ticket office.

This is possibly the best beach I have been too. This beach has swimming pools, hot tubs, children's park, restaurants, boat and surf hire on it. The beach is wide and the sea is so carm due to the rocks that enclose it. Safest beach for children of all ages. Fantastic! This is real Italy and a great town to relax even with the kids!

Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, opened in 1972, is a renowned motor racing circuit that hosts top-level events for both two and four-wheelers. Located in the district of Santa Monica, it spans an area of about 600 thousand square meters with a capacity of 75000 visitors. The circuit's current length is 4226 meters and is considered one of the safest due to its flat terrain and excellent visibility into every corner.
I should have visited this place before. I love the experience and expectations have been well exceeded. For those with sensitive ears, bring your own earplugs or muffs. One can do shopping in the area, where bikers’ stuffs, accessories are sold. Sports gears, souvenir shops and kids play area give a great vibe. Burgers and Heineken food stalls, very convenient but one shouldn’t be there for the food. Just chill and enjoy the rare experience once there. You may end up witnessing your favourite Grand Prix star or Valentino Rossi falling right below you!

Simply amazing a Motorsport cathedral a nice track technically challenging to race. A temple for SIC so happy 58 could give it the name. Will go there again for sure. A big plus is that the track is situated in a beautiful area with many things to discover. Not only speaking of the amazing food in Italy 🤩🤩🤩

Wonderful experience! We booked an eBike guided tour which includes 2 hours in total of driving through circuit and visiting the main cabinets (that are not available to public). In the same building, there is Marco Simoncelli's gallery and Ducati merch shop. Definitely worth of the ticket and would recommend to everyone who is into motoGP.

This MotoGP circuit is in my opinion, one of the safest circuits at all, even though it is very fast.
First of all, the circuit is absolutely flat which makes this circuit so safe. I know, for many it means less thrill, but in change you have no tricky or blind spots or spots where the grip suddenly changes.
The other thing is, that you see very far and into every corner. In some places you see even the second next corner or even more.
The asphalt is flawless. Superb grip.
Now comes the best part. In every corner, there is a wide (i mean a few meters wide) run off area made of asphalt. I can't imagine, what you would have to do, to end in the gravel... Well, crashing, I suppose. :)
It's also the perfect circuit to go to, if you have a family. Located only about 1,5Km from the sea and Riviera in the holiday province of Rimini... How better can it get?
You can get accommodated near the circuit and your family can go to the beach, while you are riding on the circuit.
Another thing is, that you are in Italy and every time I was in Italy, people were very kind and friendly. The food is also great everywhere, even on the circuit (Who doesn't like italian food, right?).
The pits are quite big and from the main Building, you can see a big part of the track.
The most unique thing is that the pits are outside of the track. Therefore the motorcycles and cars are riding right next to the pitwall! Riding on my motorcycle 270 next to the wall was nothing strange, but standing there and looking, how other motorcycles pass by just 1,5m next to your head... Oh boy! That is something unforgettable.
The only bad part is the gas station. It is great, that there is a gas station on the circuit. But why can't we pay with a normal credit or EC card?! The gas station wants you to pay via a special application and trust me, it is the worst app to activate and register I have ever seen. Horror! Only my friend was able to activate it on his iPhone. My Android didn't work. That's the only bad thing I can imagine.
If you are going alone or just with your friends, go off season. I was there October 2022 and it was perfect. No tourists, everything was calm and the weather was perfect. We had like 18°C and sunny. Perfect! Though it makes finding a restaurant tricky.
Diego Nonicknameleft — Google review
Beautiful. During non-professional events, it is possible to enter with a 5€ ticket and attend free practice of other amateur riders, as well as walk around in the paddock area, climb on the top gallery and walk to the shop area. Only problem: there is no single point on the galleries that allows for a good/complete view, so it is important to choose wisely the location where to siet when attending a competition event.

A dream place. We went during the WDW2022. I arrived as a press journalist. Make sure to bring a bicycle or electric kick scooter to go around. The place is huge! Facilities are modern. There is accreditation centre for press personnel. There are bathrooms everywhere too. Make sure to bring a big water bottle! Will come back for many more races!

Great fun, well maintained Track, modern and full of interesting feature. Only downside is very chaotic organisation of traffic around the track during the race weekend. Might be the Italian Police is to blame...

Castello di Gradara is a hilltop medieval castle featuring brickwork turrets, battlements, and a museum of history. The castle is steeped in a tragic story akin to that of Romeo and Juliet, inspiring renowned writers like Byron and Dante. The area surrounding the castle offers diverse landscapes ranging from mountainous terrain to art-filled cities such as Urbino and Ascoli Piceno, as well as the beautiful beaches of Conero Riviera.
Amazing medieval village, well kept, really worth seeing. We didn't have time to get into the castle itself but I'm sure it is as amazing inside as outside.
If you are around this area, I strongly recommend to come and spend few hours here.
Alice A. — Google review
A wall of about 800 meters in length encloses inside the castle and the village of Gradara in the lower part ; of it, in about 20 minutes you can cover the stretch that overlooks the village.
The visit to the castle with furnished rooms and to the village can last a little more than an hour.
There are various paid parking lots, the last one just under the walls.
It can also be reached by bus with departures from Pesaro - Gabicce Mare - Cattolica.
Construction began in the 12th century and continued in various stages over the following centuries.
Although there is no absolute certainty, it seems that the famous drama of "Paolo and Franesca" took place here, two lovers who were eventually killed by her husband and who are mentioned in Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy".

Walled fortress of Gradara. A couple of hours or so will cover what you need to see. Beautiful Chapels, castle and little shops. Quite a steep climb to castle entrance, but worth going in and walking the walls for lovely views of the surroundings.

Worth the ride up the beautiful slopes up to the Castello di Gradara. This medieval fortress built from the 11th to 25th century, was said to be the inspiration for Dantes' Devine Comedy.

Lovely medieval castle in well preserved village. 9€ gives you access to the castle interior as well as walking the ramparts ( castle walls). Take note that the entrance to the ramparts is not adjacent to the castle entrance, rather further down the hill. Well worth a visit if holidaying in the Marche area ; easily reachable from Gabicce Mare and Riccione.

You can make a walk of lover and it will take you around the castle. It is very a wonderful, beautiful and romantic place and trip!!! You can do in a couple and have romantic dinner and can also stay a night in a hotel within the castle wall and can also do a family trip visiting inside the castle itself.

Beautiful historical place with a lot of souvenir shops and restaurants. The inside of the castle is like you stepped into the 15.th century. Great experience!
The Beach of the Two Sisters is a stunning public beach located in Italy. It features two large rock formations and is covered in white pebbles. Visitors can enjoy swimming and sunbathing, but should be aware of the dangerous path and passage. Despite being one of the most beautiful places on the Adriatic coast, it can get quite crowded during peak season.
I went on June, 4th 2023.
The water is cold, there is a lot of sun, so I went inside super fast. It was a little bit windy.
The beach is clean.
I left early because began raining around 2:30. All these days the rain has been like that.
I rented 2 chairs and an umbrella for 25 euros.
There is a restaurant on the beach, it was full.
The beach is big and on one side is the mountain le due sorelle “two sisters”.
The parking lot! Important this… Drive all the way inside close the mountain and park there. It’s the same price than the one at the beginning of the park. I didn’t know this and you have to walk more from the first parking.

We made last minute reservation to see how a turtles are released into the sea. Although we expected a lot more from this trip, for example at least more furthers, but there was only one. The experience was still amazing. The boat ride was fun and beautiful. A lot less people than usually due to COVID 19. The boat staff was helpful when getting off. When we arrived at the Beach of the two sisters, we had to climb down the ladder. This was fun! 😁👌Although this trip was planed to leave at 5pm, therefore we got no sun as we arrived on the beach. It was quite dark. The sun there leaves around 3pm. You can also plan to go to this beach in the morning and stay until afternoon in order to just enjoy a private view and swim.

Most beautiful place on the Adriatic coast on Italy ( in this region). Nice water, nice beach, perfect restraint. The only problem is it’s very difficult to park the car after 9 am from the end of may till middle of September!!! There is a public parking at the top, from where to walk about 20 minutes down.
Natalia Rudykh — Google review
A wonderful beach, though rather crowded. A pleasant boat trip from Numana, I found the 25-euro ticket a bit too high, but I guess a more popular fare would get the beach even more crowded.
Massimo Soranzio — Google review
Beautifull beach that is very quiet.. That is untill the boatload of tourists gets dumped on the beach. The tour boats ruined the place. Tip: Get there early before the boatload of tourists. When the boatload of tourists arrives just leave in the direction of Portonovo. There are a few beaches that are free off the boatload of tourists.

1000 nuanches of blue. What a place with a wow view. It worth the trip by boat from Numana turistic harbor. It seems to be to Maldives but with a sand of little stones instead of sand.
Spiaggia Sassi Neri, also known as Black Rock Beach, is a picturesque and rustic destination located near the Conero mountain. The long stretch of coastline features clear blue waters and dark rocks that create a striking contrast with the sea. This natural beach is ideal for snorkeling due to its deep waters and is perfect for those seeking relaxation away from the crowds.
This place is WOW!!! The rocks on the shore as you walk further down the beach aren’t slippery. Just the waves will get you a bit, other than that amazing view on the other side of the big pink rock. If you want to experience something unique and pink this is the place!

Really beautiful beach!!! The water is clear and there is a lot to see underwater for people interested in a bit of snorkeling. Clean and not overly full of people. From the city of Sirolo there is maybe 20 minutes on foot and a bit more to return, but it can be done by everyone (I had with me a friend that is the opposite of athletic and he was able to do it...grumbling but he did)

'Sassi neri" is a renowned beach close to the Conero mountain and it's, for sure, a very nice place where to spend a day with a family or friends.
But let's start from the beginning.
After leaving your car in a parking you can choose between taking a bus or two different trails.
First dirt road is not for children and not for unhealthy people. Don't take it also if you have only flip_flops because it's steep and dangerous.
Second one is a normal road but steeper than the other. (If you take this solution you can also ask for bus service that cost 2 euro for the round trip)
After 30 min (5 with bus) you will reach "sassi neri beach" a pleasant place sourrounded by green and lush vegetation with clear blue sea water. (for sure better than Emilia Romagna coast which is usually green).
Down there, there is also a restaurant and few bars where to take a drink or a coffee.
To conclude, Sassi Neri e San Michele is a very nice place but if you have altready been in Sardinia or Puglia or Sicily don't expect to find places like that.
Cheers

Such a beautiful Basilica!! It is definitely worth seeing. It is also well worth taking the time to walk around and see the incredible views.

How could anyone give a bad review? Whether you are a believer or not, this place is beautiful. My husband was especially happy to visit since he is an airline pilot and the lady of Loreto is the patron Saint and protector of aviators.

Somehow a very special place, I recommend a visit easily reached from the motorway as your heading south. It's a plane of pilgrimage for so many people and deserves to be treated as such.
Richard Meadmore — Google review
I spotted the basilica from the motorway. I had no idea of the historic significance. I have zero religious inclination, but as a world traveler I always enjoy a beautiful basilica. And it never ceases to amaze me how much significant people place on these buildings with over the top ornate decoration.

Beautiful church with some interesting stories and art. Take some time to read about the history of how Jesus home came to be in Italy and see if you find the astronauts painted there as well. No entrance fee and in feb almost no crowds. Well worth a visit.
Oh also one thing, it says no pictures allowed inside.

Several blocks from the beach. The room has a nice balcony with tables and two chairs that overlooks the city. Since its completion in the 16th century and possibly even earlier, the "Holy House" of Loreto has been numbered among the most famous shrines of Italy. Loreto is a small town a few miles south of Ancona and near the sea. Its most conspicuous building is the basilica. This dome-crowned edifice, which with its various annexes took more than a century to build and adorn under the direction of many famous artists, serves merely as the setting of a tiny cottage standing within the basilica itself. Though the rough walls of the little building have been raised in height and are cased externally in richly sculptured marble, the interior measures only thirty-one feet by thirteen. An altar stands at one end beneath a statue, blackened with age, of the Virgin Mother and her Divine Infant. As the inscription, Hic Verbum caro factum est, reminds us, this building is honoured by Christians as the veritable cottage at Nazareth in which the Holy Family lived, and the Word became incarnate. Another inscription of the sixteenth century which decorates the eastern facade of the basilica sets forth at greater length the tradition which makes this shrine so famous.
Casa Leopardi, the birthplace of poet Giacomo Leopardi, is a renowned museum in Recanati. This historic attraction boasts a vast library and captivating exhibits that offer insights into the life and works of the esteemed poet. Guided tours allow visitors to explore the house where Leopardi spent his childhood, including his beloved library, which houses an impressive collection of twenty thousand books that played a crucial role in his studies.
The whole area is breath taking, I am not and will never be a fan of Leopardi (probably due to secondary school studies!), but by visiting the premises help me to understand the character, I am sure he had a tough life, despite being a wealthy guy, hence the production of his poetry. Visiting his house and the surrounding places really helps to understand him and if possible to love his work, personally I have re evaluate it completely! Also I must say that the passion of the guides when explaining and the help and support they provide is astonishing
Giulio D'Alberto — Google review
Of all the things suggested in the ticket the house itself with the library is the only one worth visiting. However you cannot take pictures there which is a bit of a shame nowadays
Vincenzo Reale — Google review
To be honest, one would not even bother to go in if it were not for the Leopardi name. That said, we truly enjoyed the tour of the library and the personal quarters on the second floor. The tour guide was helpful and well prepared and made our tour interesting and fun. I personally would not buy a separate ticket for the museum. Enjoyable visit overall

Amazing morning at the museum. We didn't book ahead and we probably should have. School groups were touring on the same day so when the guide finished with them, he offered to take us around. His English was limited but we managed and he was so kind to take us around. He showed my 6-year-old how to make paper and let him try it out. Highly recommended activity for families. I suggest to plan better than we did and go when there is an English tour so it's even better. There's a great playground and park across the street where you can do a picnic after.

I went to the Museo della Carta e della Filigrana for a class field trip and was able to learn a lot! At the museum there is a demonstration of the paper production. It is very hands on and you can make your own sheet of paper with the help of the guide. We were able to go to different rooms and look at different machinery. We also learned about money and how different currencies can be easier or harder to forge due to the technique used to make it. Overall it was an incredible experience and I would recommend to anyone!

I went here for a class field trip! It was really cool to see because they take you through their history, you can also actually make paper if you take a tour. It is old fashioned but they show you how they keep up their modern touch. The town surrounding the factory is also very nice. It is totally worth seeing and making a stop at their factory with their excellent guides!
Wynne Snowden — Google review
I went to the Museo della Carta e della Filigrana on a class field trip about a week ago. When we first walked into the museum, you find yourself in a foyer area surrounded by works of watermarks on paper. The tour guide approached our group and she announced that she was ready to get started. Our tour guide, Francesca, was very informative throughout the whole experience and was more than willing to answer our questions to her full capabilities. The first room she took us in, she showed us the first machine that was able to turn washcloths into a flattened paper that people are able to write on. In that same room she brought a colleague and showed the group first hand how to make the paper. They were also nice enough to allow some of my classmates to experience this process with their own hands. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to anybody who is interested in this subject. I know I learned a lot about paper making that I never thought I would learn.
Evan Thompson — Google review
Museo della Carta e della Filligrana was a great museum. I visited the museum on a field trip with my university. Paper was born in Fabriano, the second most important Italian paper mill. At this museum you can watch the process of paper production and can have a hands on experience of producing their own sheet of paper! You are able to go through many different rooms containing old paper mills, old paper production, the vats and presses and machinery. To think about the ties it has to marketing and how it has evolved is very important with where marketing is today.
Emma Udchitz — Google review
My visit to the Paper and Watermark Museum in Fabriano was wonderful. I attended the museum with a group, and our guide, Francesca, was very interesting and wanted us to be hands on when explaining the process of paper making. Great establishment, I would recommend stopping if you are in the area.

Palazzo Buonaccorsi is a magnificent venue that boasts lavish frescoes from the 1700s depicting scenes from the Aeneid. The palace has a rich history and showcases both historic carriages and contemporary art. It is an ideal location for various events such as receptions or company parties with ample space for seating and walking around. The balcony offers a breathtaking view, while even leaving room for dancing among the tables.
This is a beautiful place to host any event such as a reception or a company party. The table setup was wonderful, there was plenty of space for people to sit comfortably and walk around, and the view on the balcony was breathtaking. I do believe there would be space for dancing, even with the tables. The food was also so delicious.

Interesting but seriously overpriced museum: the €10 entry fee is rather ridiculous for the nice but unassuming pieces on show, extravagantly highlighted by rather overdone video clips. Sad to see how art is becoming commercialized past-time. That said, the visit may still be worth it, if only for the splendid Aeneid-gallery - or if you're very much into antique carriages.

Sferisterio di Macerata is an enchanting open-air opera house that can accommodate up to 3,000 spectators. It is known for its grandeur and impressive Italian Baroque architecture. The arena, a 200-year-old building in the neo-classical style, resembles a Roman arena and hosts a popular opera festival each summer. Its acoustics are highly reputed, making it a fantastic venue for shows.
Amazing place for shows. Great acoustics, comfortable seats and beautiful lighting and decor.
Reuma Nachmias — Google review
Visited the building (no concert). For six euros you just get to see the inside of the arena, and a flashy edited movie which doesn't provide any in-depth info and history. In my opinion a big rip-off, this should be free like visiting a park. It's probably much nicer when there's a concert. Would've been nice to get on the roof for panoramic view.
Tom Callens — Google review
We didn't experience an opera or concert. We visited it outside the opera season, so you can only see the interior. We expected to see more: backstage, balcony, loges, ....

Originally built as an ancient hospital, the Palazzo del Monte Frumentario, it now houses two separate churches stacked on top of each other. UNESCO recognizes this architectural masterpiece as a World Heritage Site since 2000.
This cathedral is an awe-inspiring place! All the frescos by Giotto are masterpieces. The place is steeped into history, religion and significance. Well worth the daily trip from Rome.

A tranquil beautiful place. The building was quite overwhelming in its quiet magnificence. So disappointed not to be able to take photos but totally understood. The ceilings around the altar are so breathtaking in their beauty. The architecture and different painted scenes are complex and overwhelming in the skill seen. Some of the best I have witnessed in my journey to Rome and Assissi. Italy's architectural gifts are blessed. The crypt where the remains of St Francis lies is small well lit staffed and busy. There are pews to rest upon to enjoy moments of quiet reflection and candles can be purchased which are lit after one's departure. The views from outside the Basilica are far reaching and splendid. A place to hold in the heart.

The Basilica of St. Francis is marvellous and mystical place, bringing together a number of renaissance masterpieces and an extraordinary architectonic complexity. Cimabue, Giotto, the Lorenzetti brothers, Simone Martini – the greatest artists of the 14th Century, have painted frescoes on the walls and ceilings of this place. An obligatory destination for believers and non-believers alike, appreciating art and architecture.

We enjoyed walking the streets of the little village of Assisi.
Assisi was the birthplace of St. Francis, who founded the Franciscan religious order in 1208.
Papal Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi was where St. Francis was born and died. The Basilica consists of an upper and lower sanctuary, where St. Francis is buried. The church is decorated with gorgeous geometric designs, frescoes painted in many colors, some with gold stars on a blue painted background.
The best is to hire a private guide, and I recommend this, to understand the historical significance of this holy site,
but I used my phone to get the right info.

This was my second time to come here, and the experience is surreal. The serenity of the place, the architecture to marvel at, everything comes together. A place to go for the religious. Take time to visit and reflect on the life of Saint Francis.

The Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi is a truly awe-inspiring place. The architectural beauty and grandeur of the basilica are simply breathtaking. The spiritual atmosphere and rich history make it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a profound and moving experience. A remarkable testament to the legacy of Saint Francis of Assisi.

A beautiful church with an interesting history. It was built in the 13th century on a hill where death sentences were carried out, known as Hell's Hill. Later the name was changed to Paradise Hill (after the canonization of St. Francis). Here is the tomb of St. Francis.
When visiting the basilica, it is worth strolling the streets of Assisi. However, only 8 km away (approx. 20 minutes by car) there is another Basilica with an atmospheric, tiny church inside, rebuilt by St. Francis.

Such a holy and magnificent cathedral to visit. This was one of the most emotional visits. You can feel the presence of the saints in this cathedral. You feel safe and peaceful.
It’s full of valuable objects from the ancient times.
I wished that we all could be like Saint Francesco!

A historic and amazing basilica, obviously a must visit while you are in Assisi. Must visit both the Inferiore (lower) and Superiore (upper) basilica areas. The Inferiore piazza is quite large as captured in these pictures. The basilica superiore is so peaceful and serene, true to the nickname of Assisi, the city of peace, no wonder a UNESCO a World heritage site. If you have only a day to spend here, would recommend visiting the basilica in the evening hours, as you can make a the most the most out of it with the spectacular views during the sunset hours from up top of the whole area and the valley.

Beautiful sanctuary, it is really amazing to walk around and see how beautiful it is inside. It has high and lower levels. In the lower level, you can find the tomb of Saint Francis de Assisi. It was the most spiritual place I visited recently. There is also a shop downstairs you need to go straightforward up to the end of the high level then take the stairs to go down. To find the Basilica you have to walk 15 minutes but there are a lot of shops around and restaurants, a good tip is to go early in the morning to enjoy the place and walk through the medieval small roads. You can find parking inside the town or outside in the public parking. Really amazing place!

Basilica di Santa Chiara బాసిలికా డి సాన్టా చియారా
The Basilica of Santa Chiara is a 13th-century church located in Assisi Square. It is dedicated to Saint Clare, the founder of the Order of Poor Ladies, and contains the tomb of St. Clare. The church is very beautiful and well worth seeing.
Santa Chiara...I woke up every day seeing sun slowly rising above Santa Chiara. Yes, serene.
And that to have luxury to pray every morning before St. Francis cross there, priceless.
You can feel that it all started here.

The striped facade in side is simple but very beautiful, the side buttresses give it might, like the faith of all pilgrims. The Basilica is dedicated to the founder of the Poor Clares and her crypt is located below which is accessible to the public for FREE. Strictly no photo.

A truly beautiful place to be. Occasionally it will get a bit noisy, but it calms down soon enough. The tomb of St. Clare shows a beautiful testimony of her life and is an excellent dedication to her, as are the relics which can be seen just after you visit the tomb area. There is the main altar area, the side chapel (which houses the tabernacle and is especially dedicated to silent prayer), and the altar above which the original cross of San Damiano hangs. Each one provides a different atmosphere in which to pray or to simply be present, and all are wonderful. There is nothing like gazing upon the original Sam Damiano cross. Definitely do not miss this church in Assisi.

Eremo delle Carceri is a hermitage and oratory located on a forested hillside that dates back to the 13th century. It was an important place of worship for St Francis and other saints who lived there during that time, making it a holy ground filled with their spiritual essence. The peaceful environment of the woods provides an ideal setting for deep meditation and prayer, offering visitors a chance to connect with heaven.
If Francis has ever provoked something within you, this is a great place to come; to sit in a chapel service, to offer a short prayer in his cave and see how drastically different his method of following Jesus was from us today or walk and pray the many trails that intersect the area as you search for God. Highly recommend a full day—don’t just come and see—come, pray and search for what is behind what caught your attention about St. Francis in the first place.

If you go to Assisi, a beautiful sanctuary to go to is Eremo Della Carceri. You can walk the 4 km up hill, with spectacular views which takes between 1-1 1/2 hrs. There is a welcome cafe at the entrance 🙂. The caves here are where St Francis and his brothers lived and prayed and the monastery was built around them. The grounds on the mountainside are so peaceful to walk and pray in. The monastery has some small passages and narrow stairways, but this adds to the atmosphere. The monks there are very welcoming. Beautiful.

If you visit Assisi, the Eremo delle Carceri is the perfect destination to follow the footsteps of St Francesco. If you decide to walk up, it is a 4,1km, approx. 1,5 hours steep uphill rocky hike, but it is well worth it, as the scenery is breathtaking. The hermitage is just pure serenity, the perfect place to connect to St Francesco. You can feel all that he stood for. It is a truly sacred place.

San Damiano church in Assisi is a 12th-century rustic-style building with cloisters. Although not very artistic, it has gained popularity due to its historical significance and association with Saint Francis and Santa Chiara. It is often referred to as a small hut of linens located on the corner of a house. Unlike other holy places in Assisi, San Damiano is not located in the center of the town which makes it less crowded.
Not in the center of Assisi, hence not crowded as other Holy places in the town. However, the tiny church is amazing as it also has a significant role in Christianism and Italian literature. St. Francis wrote the Canticle of the Sun here, known as the earliest known vernacular literature written in the Umbrian dialect of Italian.

Oh my word. San Damiano is beautiful. It is the place, where in 1205 St Francis heard God speak through a beautiful cross. While it no longer houses the original San Daminao cross (that one hangs in the Basilica of St. Clare), definitely still check out this church. It provides an excellent glimpse into the lives of the Poor Clare's, and is home to several notable places in St. Clare's life (including the place where she died). It is also, simply, a beautiful church which has stood the test of time. And the short walk to get there is amazing!

The Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli is a 16th-century church where St. Francis founded his order in Umbria. The church boasts a history and art museum, and is located outside of Assisi, making it ideal to have a car if one wants to visit. Mass is held on Sunday mornings, but visitors can still explore the grounds during this time.
This Francis-linked site is a bit off the main trek, but should be considered essential and is actually rather easy to reach, particularly if coming in by train. It is an easy 1/2 mile stroll from the station.
Once there you will not only find the stone chapel that Francis and followers rebuilt at the start of his ministry, but a chapel marks the place of his death.
The complex is vast with interesting displays of creches, some focus on telling the story of Clair, and a large bookshop.
Connection between the train station and Assisi is available by a city bus ride - buy inexpensive tickets from the helpful shop at the station - that transports one near the top of town where gravity can lead you through the town.

A church within a church. The little church marked the place where St Francis of Assisi died, a church, the size of a hut was built to mark the place and some years later, a much bigger church, a Basilica, was built encapsulated the little church. The remains of St Francis of Assisi is in the tomb up the hill. The monks led the praying of the rosary in the little church, I witnessed much piety and reverence from the community. Thanks be to God.

A very nice basilica in Assisi, probably often overlooked because people flock up to the hilltop to the town and the more famous basilica and other attractions. This is on the other side of the main train station of Assisi. It’s actually walkable distance from the train station. There is a nice museum, rose garden and gift shop in side as well. The piazza Della Porziuncola in front of the basilica is quite large and nice to walk around and take in the beauty of this place.

This is a very special place because inside this enormous church is the tiny church worshipped in by St Francis of Assisi. At the moment the outer church has scaffolding around much of the dome and inside as many repairs are taking place. However, you can still see the impressive art work and architecture. The small church is very special and still has the frescos inside. You can walk along a special bricked pathway from Assisi.

The basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli is a Roman Catholic rite church located in Assisi . It has the dignity of a papal basilica and inside there is the Porziuncola , the chapel where Francis of Assisi gathered in prayer , and for this reason the center of Franciscan spirituality. On top of the facade of the temple stands the statue of the Madonnain gilded bronze modeled by Colasanti and cast by the Ferdinando Marinelli Artistic Foundry of Florence .

It's a beautiful basilica but it's going through a renovation/fixing era. Therefore you're not going to be able to fully enjoy the church with its paintings. However, you will have a special moment for prayer there and one relic from San Francisco. You'll also be able to witness the rose garden of San Francisco and the little cell in which he used to sleep about other little treasures like the gift shop.

The Museo della Porziuncola is a beautiful and spiritual place that holds great significance in the history of St. Francis. Located in Italy, it was on this site where he founded the Franciscan Order and also passed away. The museum commemorates his life and teachings through various exhibits and artifacts, making it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in learning about St. Francis or seeking spiritual enlightenment.
We made a pilgrimage from St. Clare, to St. DaMiano, to the Museo della Porziucola. We did not realize that we were retracing the last journey of St Francis before his death. One of the most amazing days we had spent on our month in Umbria. We had a driver from Spello to take us to Pettino and I'm glad we did -- it is quite the incredible ride up into the mountains. We were greeted with an espresso upon arrival at the farm, where we met the family. Loading into 4WD vehicle we followed Luca and his truffle hunting dogs up the mountainside, where they were let loose to hunt for the elusive truffles. The day was picture perfect. The views over the mountain side were breathtaking. Those industrious pups found truffles! We were then taken over the field where the sheet are herded, where Luca made us eggs with the truffles on a gas stove on his tailgate and all paired with Prosecco. Back at the farm we were treated to home cured meats, olive oil and wine, all while Francesca exhibited her pasta making skills. Lunch was in a lovely profession kitchen, consisting of the pasta and truffles (of course), followed by grilled fennel, pork and lamb. All accompanied by their wine! We finished up the meal with a tiramisu. It is a beautiful place and it will forever be in our memories.

100% recommended!
We actually arranged our trip to Italy around the availability of the truffle hunt here, but later got a bit nervous that this was a bit too expensive. We went anyway and were totally blown away by the family that let us share a bit of their lives.
The day starts with coffee and a chance to get to know each other. Then off in the trucks to the higher woods and fields with the dogs. The dogs (well, maybe half of them) walk with us to to the various oak trees and find truffles under the soil. When they deliver these to the handlers, they are rewarded with a biscuit. This was fascinating to watch. (The other half of the dogs just did dog things).
After we collected enough, we drove to a high plain where we cooked and ate eggs with the truffles and drank a bit too much prosecco. The local sheep (and wolf hounds) joined us for a fun time in the sun.
Back in the little village, we were served unlimited wine, bruchette, and sliced meats. They made pasta from scratch, and then we were served an amazing late lunch with wild boar.
The conversations were real, we made good friends, and would definitely recommend this as a highlight of any trip. (We took too many pics - sorry!).

For the People that is looking for a different tour this is a really great suggestion not top far from Rome. It is a tailor tour in the bush with special truffle dogs. Also highly recommended for family with kids

I went in this tour in 2015 and was hoping to do this again this year however just could not fit it in. Amazing people, culture, food and company. Love it....Image credit Genevieve Rechner

As lovers of all things truffle and food, this was truly a highlight of our trip to Italy 🇮🇹
Francesca and her team could not have been more accommodating to our group. Watching her make this delicious homemade pasta in front of the group was amazing!! Nevermind, having prosecco &eggs topped with truffles on a mountain top!! What an absolutely wonderful and fun experience!! I highly recommend this experience!
