Historic Sites
Don't be discouraged by the inconspicuous access road up the mountain or the tight turns on the way. This is a must see historical sight, particularly for those interested in WW2 history.
True to its name, this site is a fortress of significant size with a maze of tunnels.
David Ryan — Google review
Hegra Fortress is a little known piece of history when a small group of Norwegian soldiers tried to defend their country against the Germans. The soldiers built a fortress where they lived below ground under harsh conditions while defending their country.

Nice place. Good for a relax walk thinking about war nonsense

Good place to visit which is also free, has a small museum which is only open in season. Good for a walk around!

Recommended mountain fortress with underground tunnels to see in Stjørdal. Located just around 45 minutes from Trondheim. Parking area, toilett, benches, museum, cafetaria (at the moment close) are available. Guide by request. Make sure to take a picture over the sitemap near the parking area so it will be easier to check the number and the place inside the fortress. Try to get up to tower nr. 8. Inside the tunnel it can be chill, especially inside the lounge room. Free entrance to the fortress.

A very curious place. When we arrived, the kiosk was closed. A small house was used as a museum that was still half unfinished. There we found a sort of alternative kiosk built inside.
The fortress itself is still very much as if it's just abandoned a few days ago. Be very careful with small kids!!! There are a lot of sharp edges and steep en slippery stairs. Also mind your head for the low ceiling.
Some spaces have lights, some do not and are very dark.
It would also be nice if there was more information, and also in English!

Great place for a day trip. Very interesting history, small museum and cafe on the premises.

It's amazing trip to look at the past how it was like. And the nature is amazing.
Lots of fun for the kids. Archery, axe throwing, iron works, glass beads, animals. Tours and shows at certain times.

It's a Monday so this may only apply to this day at this date. It was great to walk around and see the sights. But nothing was open to allow you inside and nobody was around anywhere in the form of staff. However the church was open with very helpful staff and it was very interesting to visit. The only bonus was the outside was free.

On a Monday it is not advisable to go. The exhibition was disappointing. I expected to see more artifacts, Replica's or real one's only thing was banners with the story. The buildings are nice but dull when you only can walk along them. Only church is open AND that is worth the visit.

Røros Church, also known as Roros kirke in Norwegian, is a significant landmark in the town of Røros, Norway. It replaced an older church and is made of stone, a rarity for its time. With seating for 1,600 people, it's one of Norway's largest churches and holds historical importance as one of the country's top ten churches. The church overlooks the town and bears the inscription "To God's Glory and the Mining Town's beauty.
60 kr nok for entry per adult. Children free.
The church has three floors and is well maintained. Nothing spectacular but worth a visit to support the maintenance and see a bit of the cultural heritage of Røros.
There is no line here.
Try to figure out if there is a concert here. The sound is good here.
Håvard Siegel Haukeberg (Howie) — Google review
Give this church a miss. The entry fee 60NOK and opens at 11 am. The outer facade is pleasant enough. I love visiting old churches so went in with high hopes. Was very disappointed with the interior. It was very plain and nothing unique or notable.

Overlooking the town stands Røros church, which replaced an older, smaller church in 1780, is built in stone, not a matter or course at that time in Norway and can seat 1,600 people which makes it one of the largest churches in Norway.

Over the entrance to the church a sign says "Til Guds Ære og Bergstadens Ziir" which means "to God's Glory and the Mining Town’s beauty”. Bergstaden Røros had become wealthy and grown considerably, and there was no lack of self-esteem. Visit the church and visit one of two of the mines around town!
Of course I was pleased to see that the modern (protestant) Church of Norway and its priests have no problem with gay weddings. Good on you!
Kurt Memmert — Google review
An attractive church that seems to be a focal point for the town as it is on a small mound that makes it seen amongst all the old buildings

Roros parish church is an octagonal stone church built in 1784. The ornate peculiar interior is worth a visit. Anyway is a landmark building that must be visited when passing from Roros.
ANASTASIOS TSAGKLAS — Google review
The recently renovated church is a gem, and the local guide was very knowledgeable. It is even possible to go upstairs and admire the beautiful interior from above. I also did not know that the church was used in the first general election in 1814. Lots to learn and admire here.

Visitors can witness intricate working models demonstrating the historical water- and horse-powered smelting processes. Live copper smelting demonstrations are held daily in July and August at 3pm. The museum offers guided tours around the village and provides information about nearby mines for those interested in mining history.
Fantastic smallish museum with an excellent set up. Especially all the small wooden models are exceptional. They are done with love and dedication. A big applause to the creator!!

If you like history. If you want to understand some of the underlying lines in old Norwegian sosial struktures. Understanding how much work that had to be done to manage to mine just one kilograme of Copper. And how many tons of wood that had to be cut....How many hours of laybour from humans and horses. Then this is a place to spend some hours in Røros. Nice guided tour can be bought.😃

The exhibition about the copper works is fantastic! The miniatures are detailed and suck you right in. Most of the written information is only in Norwegian however the audio tour is amazing and more than makes up for the lack of written information. The exhibitions about local dance and clothes seem lackluster in comparison but that might also be personal preference. Highly recommend a visit!

Røros is a unique place to visit and the Smelthytta Museet contributes to it. The museum is a travel back to time, not very big. If you pass by and have time, visit it.

World Heritage site and amazing to see in the city of Roros. Copper mining fields and old wood homes that were incredible to see.

Fantastic, my home country's history really moved me. The staff were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Amazing art. And the models of the equipment for the smelting and mining were so realistic in the 1-10th scale. It helped me understand more of my home country's struggle and the path to overcome the obstacles that eventually led my home country to the pinnacle of success and prosperity that we enjoy today.

The dioramas are very, very cool, and the information about the mining industry is Røros is fascinating. Being inside did give me a bit of a headache, but that's probably a natural consequence of being a museum literally built inside an old smeltworks. The gift shop had a lot of interesting items for sale, although I didn't personally make any purchases.

Interesting museum, showing the town's historical roots in copper smelting. The audio guide is very detailed and informative, and the scale models really tells the story in and insightful way.

Facinating museum, which are featuring a lot of historical aspects on how the mines and its productions has aided in the towns value and importance throughout history. It also features 3 floors of historical facts, a video and also featuring cloths from its generation, preserved from old days. Great visit.
perhaps the best adventure park we've been to yet! No fooling around when they mean "this one will be challanging" but plenty of things to entertain and exercise all players

Lovely place to go out with friends and family. The instructors had really fun teaching us how to use the climbing system and it was enjoyable overall. Thundering cascade with hiking trails & riverside views, also popular when frozen in winter.
Spectacular waterfall, only 200m from the parking. If you have an RV you can pay the night on a machine to park overnight. Toilets and shower are clean and the place is quiet.

This place is must visit for nature lovers. It's less visited by tourist(not wanting ofcourse that people flock this place) so, it's clean, fresh and close to pure nature.
Besides, it's marketed as largest waterfall in Sweden. I just spent listening to the sounds of nature and enjoyed it a lot. Will mark this as best!

It was an awesome experience. Although not big enough when compared to waterfalls in other parts of the world, it's a pretty good stop to take good pics if you're on that route. Also if you're lucky you could see a beautiful rainbow just above the water falling.

It’s truly an amazing place to be. Nature at its best. We had been there with our car. The parking is 30 sek/hr. You wouldn’t need more than an hour to explore the beautiful waterfall because it’s just 200 M walk from the parking.
Biki Sarmah — Google review
Sweden's largest waterfall with roaring cascades did not disappoint. Trails and lookout points are well planned, relatively easy and bring you up close to experience the mighty rush of raging waters racing over formidable rocks. If you are bringing kids, make sure you keep them close when near the falls as the ground is wet and slippery.
Pyrognats — Google review
Impressive waterfall! I have seen many higher ones but not many more powerfull than this one. Easy and short to access from parking lot (30 Skr fee). Trails were well maintained even though somewhat steep in places. Lots of benches and lockout points.

Oh, wow .. given I was led to expect a lack of runs and variety this was a revelation!
OK, so *only* 100km of pisted runs, but they vary from very easy to tricky, if not at the swiss Wall 'black' level. But certainly enough for most people.
But then, because the snow is real and is everywhere, you can ski almost anywhere.. certainly I enjoyed interpriste skiing between the trees, and the back side with a ski star guide was awesome!! I'd love to go back and really explore the 'baksidan' more.
While there go to Tagjefjäll ski over to Duved for empty, wide, fast, FUN runs watch parents with their (little) kids ski off piste amongst the trees.
One regret: the world cup run wasn't open to the public, I'd like to ski that...

Nice place when the weather permits.
Relatively small/short slopes, but pretty good for the region.
Too windy often so it is likely that you don’t experience all that this available (chair lifts close). When that happens then you need to take the bus between the different areas.
I have been coming here since 2017 (weekend trips 2-3 times a season) and the top (Högzon) is more often closed then open. Bad luck.
Nice restaurants and stores.

Great fun! We really enjoyed ourselves here. Åre is better for intermediate+ skiers. Tricky to get to the greens if you are a total beginner, plus some of the final parts of the blue runs turn to reds. The summit is spectacular. The main lift needs 10 mins effort to reach from the village - this could be better connected by an escalator. Avoid the weekends to avoid the queues. Overall I can highly recommend! 🤟⛷️🏂

Fantastic ski resort and adventure playground, with more in the way of accessible Freeride skiing than many resorts in the alps. European mountains’ best kept secret in my view

The Lifts always stops...cause the employes are not the best.
They charge 9€ for the parking. And you need an app but the sights are only on swedish...that makes me feel wellcome.
Safty is not importend at the lift entrace the gates are always open(foto). I never see Something like that in Austria or italy.
Im sure that i never come back!
The mountain looks good with a great view.

My favourite ski resort in Sweden.
I’ve been to Åre a few times, both early in the season (December) and late in the season (March) as a skier of different levels: from barely being able to do parallel turns to being comfortable on most slopes. I’ve enjoyed all the trips here.
The accommodation: I’ve only stayed in apartments in Åre. They sometimes come with a sauna and clothes dryer which is pretty nice to have.
The slopes: The Åre area is not super beginner friendly but you can find some easy slopes. Duved and Björnen are more beginner friendly. The slopes are well prepared, except once late season in Duved one slope was getting a bit bare.
The food: not cheap, reasonable quality overall but not at the same level as resorts like Les 3 Vallées in the French alps.
The service: high quality service. The rental staff are knowledgeable and helpful. In our most recent trip, we had a good experience with the ski patrol. We took a piste that’s not lit after sunset, which turned out to be a bad idea. They spotted us, didn’t blame us, told the operator of the snow groomer near us that two skiers were coming their way, which I assume was for safety reasons, and wished us a good day.
The cons: the days are short in December but there are lights on some slopes and there’s also night skiing.

You should consider having more experienced people on the lifts!!!Almost every morning in Tegefjäll lift they are always late to open, sometimes even 15 min.The chairs are always frozen and in general there is not actual any effort from the staff. And the speed???Thats a joke. They advertise that it takes 7,5 min to the top..yeah..in your dreams..10-12 min if you are lucky!!!
And yes i am experiencing these incidents for 5 years now as i work in the area and paying lots of money for the season pass.Skistar is not only Åre.There is Tegefjäll and Duved!!!Train your staff!!!

I picked up snowboarding as a hobby a few years ago in the "not so impressive" slopes we have in the Balkans (Mavrovo & Kolasin). My brother had told me Åre was a
great place, and now I know what people mean when they say the Scandinavians are big on winter sports. Absolutely loved every moment I spent here. There are plenty of slopes, in fact you'll have to visit several times if you plan on checking all of them out 😅 Plenty of other activities to do in Åre as well. There are a wide variety of pubs and restaurants and housing options are fully equipped with all you need. I highly recommend planning your next Winter holidays in Åre.
Klaurent Caushllari — Google review
I really, really, REALLY want to give Åre 5 out of 5, but I can't. The staff were super friendly, it's a good vibe in the resort, slopes and park are well built/groomed and the opportunities are vast. Out of two days skiing our first day were great, even though the conditions nor weather were something to write home about. The second day however, it was bluebird day with some wind. Many of the lifts were closed, which is understandable, but information about this were nowhere to be found. This resulted in missed trips and reoccurring monster waiting times in line. Each lift line could easily take 20-30 minutes or more, people was entering the line from left and right, and the lifts had frequent stops. As an example, when one of the T-hook lifts stopped they had to send a snowmobile from the bottom of the lift all the way up to reattach the safety wire. It shouldn't be too much to expect that when half of the lifts are closed, they'd put crew elsewhere to ensure a continuous operation of the lifts that actually were running. It was a huge let-down to buy a skiing pass for a full day, only to get 5-6 runs and hours of waiting time. I get that the weather wasn't the best, but I missed seeing the staff thriving to ensure a good experience spite the wind.
Jamtli is a museum dedicated to local history, showcasing the culture and way of life from the Viking era to native craftsmanship. Divided into two parts, an indoor and an open-air museum with reconstructed wooden buildings, enthusiastic guides in 19th-century period costume add authenticity to visitors' experience. The museum houses significant exhibits such as Europe's oldest Overhogdal Tapestries dating back to AD 1100 that feature Christian Viking relics displaying animals, people, ships and dwellings.
The English audio guide was very helpful. Lots of interesting exhibits. We spent 4 hours there. Anything that isn't covered by the Audi guide you can just look up with your phone

However, the open air museum was totally closed. We were a bit disappointed we weren't told it was closed at the ticket counter.

Situated right within the open-air museum of Jamtli and a few hundred meters from Lake Storsjön this is an excellent place to stay if you want to explore Östersund and counties Jämtland and Härjedalen.
The friendly manager Kina helps create a warm atmosphere enhanced by the traditional decor and attention to details in the rooms and in the kitchen which give the place a "homely" feel. The beds are comfortable and the rooms and common areas are clean and tidy. I recommend it heartily.

For kids who speak Swedish a fun museum I imagine. The downstairs area is interesting but completely in Swedish, an app they have available has translations but only partly. Not all features available in Swedish are available in English or German. The national museum partly has English information alongside Swedish. If you enjoy looking at your phone just as much as looking at the exhibits this might be for you.

As someone who doesn't speak Swedish and doesn’t have kids, it wasn’t worth the 170 SEK. Glad we didn’t pay for the outside part, I assume that’s also fully Swedish. The National Museum was nice though, since that had English translation.

We really liked this museum, its a lot of fun, for sure with kids. We really liked the outside area and all the People are Dressed in old clothes and stay in character all the time. Its a nice way to learn more about the history of sweden and to see how they used to live. Also the inside area was very nice decorated. The one thing they could do better is make the signs also in english, most of them where only in swedisch.

Great swimming pool in a nice town, great slides. The jacuzzi should be warmer and what really needs attention is the showers. Been here twice and both times no soap in the dispensers, not even empty cartridge, and the temperature in the showers is not adjustable. The worst thing is both times the shower area and the area where you undress where not clean.

Good public pool but it's a bit outdated.
Edit: visited now several times after they reopened. The service from the cafe absolutely stinks! Especially this one younger guy. First of all where do I start?
I had a fantastic stay at the Wolf Hotel. From start to finish it was amazing! An unforgettable experience.
Everybody was so kind from Jensen to Karin, and all the other staff I had the pleasure of meeting, thank you!
Breakfast in the other hotel everyday was really yummy. It had everything you could want! I even ate there in the evening, it was delicious.
Now for the hotel... I heard the wolves howling as soon as I walked in 😂.The room was super spacious, warm and very comfortable. I had everything I needed.
The little kitchenette upstairs was very well equipped and clean. The whole property for cleanliness I would rate 10/10.
I did venture into the zoo at night a little bit, it was snowing when I went and the whole atmosphere was magical. I saw all the animals!! (except the bears of course)
The animals were so friendly and came up close so I was able to see the them all!
The wolverines I think we're my FAVOURITE. I had never seen one before and they were so interactive and fun! Each animal was of course gorgeous! It was amazing to see them all.
The wolves you can tell are so well looked after, from the fur to the size of them. I have been to other zoos in UK where they look thin and unhappy but not at Järvzoo. Each time I went past the wolf pen they came out and were very interested.
The whole park is beautiful. I went at the start of November and I am so glad I did. There are so many things to discover. The town is very nice to walk around, the buildings are very quaint. I definitely fell in love with Sweden especially Järvzoo. I cannot wait to come back and hopefully soon!

Good place to see animals. Went here during winter season and seen almost all animals. Only the bear we have missed. Thinking about going back when the weather is a bit warm. When we were there it feels like it was -20 degrees even it’s only -14 because it’s located beside the ski resort and the humid is so strong.

Nice little zoo with nordic animals. Easy to see them as well as they seem to have spacious areas. Only two places that serves food though, plan your eating at least if you have smaller kids.
The food app is ok, but you can skip that and order by the counter as well. At least when we was here they hade more options by the counter than in the app 😳
Recommended if you are nearby

The best zoo I have visited. The animals have huge areas that really resemble their home habits and they are very lively and cheeky. It was much, much better than I expected and one of the best things we did all week in Järvsö. Vildriket is also participating in a lot of very important rehabilitation projects, helping to recover natural populations of endangered species.

Great, well-maintained park with large animal enclosures and many picnic areas. Playground and 2 cafe/restaurant options onsite. Great views of the valley from many spots in the park. Tickets are not cheap but the place is well worth a visit.

A must visit place for the entire family.. Beautiful animal park built into the hillside forest. Good facilities inside the park and its just like an escape from everyday life.. Easy to spend 2-4 hours here in the summer months at least..

Very nice zoo where animals and nature are treated with high respect. The animals have large areas/cages. It feels like a forest walk with animals here and there. The walk itself is around 3km.

Beautiful place with lots of animals to spend the day. Its a long walk so make sure to be dressed right.
Snehal Richter — Google review
We visited the zoo on a Wednesday. There weren't a lot of people so we had great views of all the the animals.
The website states "There are plenty of rest areas throughout the park where you can take a break if needed." As a disabled person who can walk but needs frequent breaks (especially when going up and down a hill) the "plenty" is severely overrated, there were only 2 or 3 areas where I could sit and rest...

A nice quaint little zoo, but it feels more of an afterthought for the area. The restaurant was closed as it was ‘out of season’ however there were a number of groups there and they would have made quite some money.
The enclosures, whilst obviously safe, are looking their age and need a considerable upgrade.
The boardwalk is good, but also could use some TLC in some areas.
D Herbert — Google review
A cold, icy day is likely not an ideal day for a visit. After walking for 2 hours around the enclosures, with some patience, waiting and carefully scrutinizing each enclosure, we managed to see sleeping artic foxes, a little of playful lynx, moose that were grazing, resting muskox, goats, reindeer, owl and from afar, a glimpse of a wolf, a wolverine and an eagle. There were a number of owl enclosures and species. They are more easy to spot in the wintry landscape compared to other animals. The zoo also has a couple of outdoor picnic / bbq areas, a small indoor museum and souvenir shop.

Järvzoo is a fantastic Nordic zoo set in a beautiful forest in the heart of Sweden. The sweeping boardwalk makes the experience much more natural as if you’re peering down into the habitat of animals in the wild. One thing to note is that some of the main attractions such as the bears will be hibernating during the colder winter months so make sure to plan your trip depending on what you’re hoping to see.
When traveling south from the Arctic Sea we wanted to avoid the E4 route as much as possible and this took us by the small village of Växbo close to the city of Bollnäs in the county of Hälsingland. The Växbo linen weaving mill is located in a modern corrugated building, red as it should be in this part of Sweden, and situated in the middle of the forest, away from the main road. You really need to know that it exists, something that one of our co-travelers did. The workers had left for the day, but we could still enter the production facilities and study the looms, most of which were set up for the next day. The shop offers a very large choice of exclusive linen products that may easily ruin you, if you would like to purchase a complete table set or stuff for you three bath-rooms. I was offered the possibility to buy shirts or a linen suit, but having been the owner of such things in the past, I knew that after having worn linen one morning only, you look as if you had been sleeping in your clothes for a week and kindly declined. We got away with a small selection of second sorting linen dish cloths, including printed instruction on how to finish and maintain them. Great place for an almost dead semi-industrial activity.

Wonderful high quality linen factory situated in a forest. One can see the factory floor through the glass windows in the shop, the shop itself has a fantastic range to choose from. Prices are high, but I suppose that's what one pays for quality. Worth a visit

A nice little linen mill (?) making and selling high quality stuff. For those interested in machine and industry history they have very cool old looms (still working) that you can study.
The old water mill (with café) nearby is very picturesque and well worth a visit.

Horrendous unclear layout, confusing exits and way too widespread. However, almost any shopping need gets satisfied (as long as you can bear with getting lost at times..). And each individual store complies with high standards. So, four stars for its "one-stop-shopping-fulfilment". But once you're out of there you exhale like were you under fire and escaped narrowly...
What a wonderful stay we had. Sara was super friendly, with a lot of knowledge and doing everything to optimize our stay. We had 2 overnights, one at the goshhawk hide and one at the Eagle hide. Both very active. It was -15/-20 during our stay, but still cozy inside with heating! I would really recommend to come here for wildlife! I’m definitely comming back:)

Great place for kids. The host Sara is really nice.
Signe Gilbro — Google review
The Wild Nordic team is enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge. The atmosphere at the site is familial and nice. The hides are well equipped. I was there end june - begin july.
I stayed at the waterstation hide one night and saw lots of birds, squirrels and even a fox briefly. Unfortunately, the badger didn't show up. But I was lucky that the hawk came by several times and I was even able to take a head-portrait of him, he was so close - that was a very special encounter.
In the Bärenhide I had no luck (perhaps because of the change in the weather) and didn't see a bear. But that's nature, I didn't want to see circus bears ... But I was able to catch a glimpse of a fox, I could watch woodpeckers and jays feeding the young and see a voracious squirrel. A young common buzzard sat on a branch and called for its parents.
Overall it was a nice nature experience and I was happy.

Lovely place for families. Been three times over the past 5 years and my English daughter has enjoyed it aged 5, 6 and 10 - as have the accompanying grown-ups (English and Swedish). It's an engaging adventure trail with acted scenes, characters to talk to and activities to engage with. The story is different each year. The actors are happy to play out their roles in Swedish or English and possibly more, always catering to the children present. It can be a little scary in parts (in a fun way!) but is suitable for young children. You can skip scary bits and the actors are sympathetic. Would definitely recommend.

A small aviation museum with a wide array of planes and aviation history. Flight simulation for those interested in trying it out, a small kids area, toilets and a cafeteria with indoor seating. A good place to stop and see if your in the area.
Emma Thompson Nydal — Google review
Plenty of planes and information about them, a good selection of exhibits too as well as some excellent models of planes through the ages. If your a fan of the earlier days of jet powered flight there is lots to take in. You can really get a sense of what the base was like in its operational days! The gift shop is well stocked too! My only criticism is that parts of the museum are a touch dated and could do with a touch of modernising. This may be subject to taste though. Overall a fun experience!
Steve Bond — Google review
Very impressive museum, not the biggest but more than enough for a worthwhile visit. It's unbelievable how massive the airplanes are, and you can get very close.
The simulator is a MUST and truly incredible, if you have the slightest interest in jets and flying. Can not compare to a videogame.
You sit in a real Viggen cockpit with 100% working instruments, even the stick shaker if you stall the plane! Together with a panorama like display it really is impressive, how bumps and small hills are identical to the real world for example. You can turn your head 90° degrees while turning the plane and see the horizon.
And on top of that the instructors are great and knowledgeable.
I recommend 60 minutes.

Well run museum and definitely worth a visit, especially if you are interested in military history and/or flight history of course. They also have a flight simulator where you can fly the combat aircraft 37 Viggen. For the simulator you need to book a time slot in advance on their web site.
Nicklas Bergström — Google review
Quite an impressively themed and planned museum. It shares a thorough story of the history of the post-WWII Swedish Air Forces, told from a point of view of this single military airbase. Along the planes themselves and various other technicals, it tells the story of the people, the operations and the everyday life of their time spent there. Marvelous approach that carries this nice home feel that adds a deep level of authenticity!

Nothing too exciting for adults but kids will like it. This museum has a flight simulator for kids which they will enjoy.

Sala Silver Mine is a former silver mine located 2km south of the town center. The vast mine complex offers plenty of activities and tours for visitors, including exploring its caverns and shafts containing galleries, artifacts, and even the world's deepest hotel suite. Tours are available every half-hour from 11am to 3pm, taking visitors deep into the mines up to 150m below ground level.
Beautiful place and a great experience going down the mine. We took the tour with the lift since we are traveling with kids.
It is a good idea to book in advance since there are not many chances to buy a ticket at the entrance. Also, the mine is cold and humid, you'll need at least 20-30 min under earth to see around and it won't be enjoyable if you are not well dressed.
There is a restaurant that offers lunch and coffee. There are also some benches to eat your lunch if you brought it with you.
Regina Garcia — Google review
We had a coffee, took the 155 meter tour and visited the antique shop. The tour guide was really funny and add a really cool mine down below and it is a real good trip. The Sala mine is quite small, so it is not that many meters you walk around. However the views and environmeent is cool. Obviously 9 minutes up and down in an elevator is really boring, but alas you need to reach the depths somehow. The coffee and the people at the cafe really, really nice. You feel the friendliness in the place. Antique shop has a lot of cool stuff.

Very well organized and peaceful. We took the tour self-paced with our two boys 9 and 11 years. There were very knowledgable guides available at various stations, we were impressed by them being able to answer all our questions, they felt like professionals geologists and historians. There were also acts were the guides played that we were mine workers, which was fun for all of us. We can warmly recommend to visit Sala Silver mine.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE!
We had the "english" tour for the 55m mine.
- The mine is very small and very dark. You will see almost nothing, only a hole in the ground. Very, very bad illuminated. The only informations we got was that: "here is the 40m level and down there 55m".
- The museum is very small and bad organized, without good explanation about the mine history. Nothing detailed related to the extraction process.
- The price is huge (395 for swedish or 295 for english sek/person) compared with what is offers. A fair price would be maximum 150 sek/adult. Be aware that the kids ABOVE 4 will pay a FULL price ticket.
Very dissapointed! I felt almost cheated.

we had the English tour 1 hour with Sofie. It was amazing and she was very knowledgeable.Warmly recommended and can't wait to go back and explore more.

We arrived in the morning and were informed that the visit in English were at 12:45 for the 66m deep and 14:00 for the 155m deep.
Since we didn’t want to wait too long, we chose the earliest.
The visit was nice, the Lady didn’t have the technical words in English but it was understandable.
The museum and the photography building only have descriptions in Swedish. English ones would have been appreciated.
A bit expensive for what it is (almost 30€ per person) but I would recommend.

Loved it! There's three different tours in the mines 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours. The 4 hours tour includes dinner in the mines heated rooms 155M under ground. The other tours takes you 60M under ground.
Mazterskink — Google review
bit expensive for going underground but considering visiting all exhibitions and buildings overground is free and the guides underground are dressed up and act like they are miners explaining what they are doing and you can ask them questions a great experience none the less.
A revised underground lighting concept could make the big mine domes much more impressive though.

Although it is a bit far from Stockholm, it is well connected by train and is convenient to access. The advantage is that there are fewer people, so you can enjoy it without waiting in long lines. This is truly one of the better family parks I have visited. I was most impressed by the zoo and its rich content. The animals look healthy and well cared for, which is not always the case in all parks of this species. In addition, children can play here in the amusement park, and then swim in the Baltic Sea. There are also several restaurants and bars on offer, so you certainly won't be hungry if you haven't brought food with you. I definitely recommend visiting this place if you are nearby, you will be able to have quality fun all day.

This park is not what it used to be.. After the shooting of the chimps.. Idk, it just has a sad, dull feeling over the whole park. It's more suitable for small kids, toddlers or so. The older kids won't be impressed. Too small area for the rides and not so much to ride actually. The animals.. Well there's some fun animals but it wasn't worth a visit. It's super expensive! Disgusting to hear of how they treated those chimpanzees. None of their animals are safe as far as I'm concerned now, and extreme measures need to be taken against these awful people before another senseless killing of some poor animal or animals happens again. It isn't right that they continue standing by their reprehensible actions as if what they did was reasonable with next to no obvious consequences. Hold them accountable—4.2 stars on a zoo run by such ignorant handlers and cold business people is dangerous and heartbreaking.

Very nice experience. The guided tractor tour to the mooses is very unique. The owners have done a great job of thinking the tour and park through. Both sides - the visitors as well as the animals - are in the focus here. Very interesting and excited place in the middle of nowhere in the forest next to motorway E4 . There is a small cafe shop with a gift shop, restaurant and historic chinese museum with the world's longest of 150 meters wooden wall reliefs presenting an overview of china's nature, architecture and culture. in the museum there is an impressive copy of the famous Terracotta Army. Very interesting and unusual for Sweden place to look at. Just passed by in the early hours of the day, so it hasn’t opened it. According to some sources the Chinese billionaire choose this place to build it because the map of Sweden reminds a dragon and this spot is located somewhat in the belly - which is believed to attract luck according to feng-shui. As far as I know there’s a museum with Terracotta Army replicas which could be well worth exploring and some restaurant. The hotel is yet to be open.

Desolate. Not worth a special visit. OK if you are desperately in need for fuel or to stretch the legs but there are other better petrol/rest stops nearby or just for photo opportunities. Located in Mariefred, a picturesque town on Lake Mälaren, Gripsholm Castle towers powerfully and fairytale-like over the idyllic small town of Mariefred in Södermanland (about 60 km west of Stockholm).
Gripsholm is known as Gustav Vasa's castle, as it was he who built the castle here in 1537. The renaissance castle offers romantic grounds, a fallow deer nature reserve and collections of furniture, handicrafts and interiors from four centuries.
Since Gustav Vasa, Gripsholm has belonged to the Swedish Royal Family and was used as one of their residences until the 18th century. It is now a museum, but still considered to be a palace at the disposal of the King and as such it is part of the Crown palaces in Sweden.
Take time to wander slowly through the many rooms and winding passages... See the Swedish State's collection of portraits – featuring prominent Swedes from the days of Gustav Vasa to present day musician and composer Benny Andersson. Visitors can also enjoy a royal stroll around the romantic castle grounds or meet the royal deer at the Hjorthagen nature reserve... and immerse yourself in Swedish history.

Nice Swedish castle in a cute quaint town. Takes ~3hrs to see everything depending on how thorough and detailed in your observation you want to be.
This castle has a huge portrait and painting collection, which they actively add to with current royalty and political figures. The theatre inside is a must see, has a quiet otherworldly vibe.
Lots of couples seem to come here for wedding photos outside.

It was a good place to visit. We visited with our kid (less than 5 year old) and she njoyed the place.
- free parking
- toilets are free and clean
- kids play area
- restaurant with mini golf

After visiting Ängsö, Tidö in Sweden this place seemed to be a real castle in pictures so I've decided to take a visit, it looks amazing and worth a visit even if you see from outside (it was closed during the weekdays).

A beautiful castle close to Stockholm in a picturesque village. Wonderful location and Beautiful paintings.

Beautiful castle with an awesome painting collection. The rooms are very well preserved. It feels like traveling back in time, getting lost in the numerous rooms. Bring some time when visiting, there is lots to see. The tour (one English tour a day) gives a great overview and is amazing value for money (30sek for 1h and a great guide). But you can spend lots of time exploring the 3 different floors. One of the best castles I have been in as it really transports you back in time. The theater is stunning. The gardens are beautiful as well but don’t need as much time as the castle.

Probably the best place we explored because of how much you get to actual wander and see. A lot of palaces and castles show you such a small portion of the estate but this felt like we could a walk around for hours. Highly recommend you make the trip out to see it.

It's a small but quite nice place to spend some time. Very pleasant view across the water.

Beautiful castle, very interesting visit, and surrounded by very beautiful views both in winter and in summer!

We could not enter the castle because we arrived just after 16 hours (closing time during this time of the year) but the gardens alone were worth the ride. The peacefulness that you can experience here is something I will remember!

Beautiful castle and worth the trip. Guided tours or stroll though at your own pace. Pay for the booklet guide if you go on your own. Lots of good info about each room.

Amazing preserved castle with immense amount of history and art. Beautifully located surrounded with water and parks and a pittoresk old town nearby.

Great collection of paintings, beautiful gardens and magnificent castle. Unfortunately there is no description of rooms, paintings nor anything. Things are nice to look at but you won't get any context of what you see.

A nice castle situated near the famous Mälaren lake. The castle has its amazing history and inside the castle you can find the National Gallery with Portrait Figures. You need to buy tickets to go inside. But, you are free to explore surroundings. Importantly, the surrounding areas are awesome near to the water. There is heritage steam engine running around. The place is 1h 30min drive from Stockholm. If weather is nice do not hesistate to visit.

The castle with its history and beautiful surroundings in Mariefred is well worth a visit. I recommend to do the guided tour and to not miss the lion, the theatre and the beautifully ornamented rooms which used to house Swedish royalty. We brought a picnic and ate it outside which was nice. Plenty of ice cream shops nearby in Mariefred.

Just 30 mins from Södertalje. This is a good spot to spend the evening and view the sunset.
Unfortunately we reached when the castle was closed but the view of the garden and lake is also great.

Castle is kept in good condition from inside and outside. This is really the biggest portrait gallery I know - portraits from centuries ago until today. It takes definitely 2 hours to go through castle rooms filled with portraits.

Wooow, I was so surprised how beautiful it is from the inside. You pay entrance, not so expensive, and you can see all the castle.

The well-maintained gardens surrounding the castle add to its allure, providing a serene escape for leisurely strolls and scenic views. From the ornate architecture to the serene ambiance, Gripsholm Slot is a photographer's paradise.
The nostalgic charm of the vintage locomotive combined with the picturesque Swedish countryside made for a memorable journey. The attentive staff on board provided fascinating insights into the history of the train and the surrounding region, enriching the overall experience.
Gamla Uppsala, situated outside Uppsala in Sweden, was a significant center for religion, politics and economy as early as the 3rd century AD. It is home to 300 burial mounds that date back from the 6th to the 12th centuries, including those of legendary pre-Viking kings such as Aun, Egil and Adils. Recent evidence suggests that one of the mounds belonged to a female regent.
I will give the review in English since a lot of international students visit this spot as well.
The tropical "Winter Garden" offers a bit of a warm respite in the cold darkness of the North. With a wide variety of exotic and beautiful plants and a wholly different climate, you are sure to enjoy the experience. Very nice for people interested in botany or biology in general, the site is also free for students of Uppsala University.

Really pretty, not to much people!
It’s a bit cramped with a wheelchair but not a problem with a manual chair, but some paths could be to narrow for an electric wheelchair.
Otherwise a fun experience!
Also free for students (and there are small frogs:3)!

The prettiest greenhouse I've ever seen.

A little piece of tropical paradise to escape to during the long, grey winter. It would be even better if I knew anything about the hundreds of plants growing in there. Free entry for UU students and staff.

A must-visit when you go to Uppsala. Beautiful greenhouse with the lotus pond as the highlight. As someone who comes from tropical country, the temperature and humidity feels like home, and it's so nice to see a lot of familiar plants. They also have smaller fish ponds and frogs. A delightful place.

It is trully one of the best Sweden’s greenhouse with so many exotical plants! Worth to visit! And the price is so low, just 50sek/5€/5$. The only thing is that the opening hours can be longer, especially weekends.

An amazing little greenhouse with a great variety of plants and biotopes. Linnaeus would be proud! Friendly staff that are happy to answer questions and offer guided tours throughout the year.
Definitely worth a visit if you're into plants, like cute little tree frogs or need somewhere to shelter from the heat of the summer or the cold of the winter!

Uppsala Cathedral is a majestic Gothic-style Lutheran place of worship that was consecrated in 1435. It is the largest and tallest church in Scandinavia, with soaring towers reaching a height of 119m. The interior boasts an imposing design, featuring a French Gothic ambulatory flanked by small chapels. The cathedral houses the tombs of notable figures such as St Erik, Gustav Vasa and Carl von Linne.
This is the best church or cathedral I have been so far. Such a majestic building from outside and inside.
You can easily spend a few hours marvelling at the architecture and detailing. We happened to visit on a Sunday noon and got to have a glimpse as the service wrapped up.
It's a truly awe-inspiring structure. Well worth the day trip from Stockholm.

Beautiful cathedral and awesome building that shows the historic construction of the past. It’s a symbol of Uppsala and Sweden due to its tremendous architecture that attracts the tourists. Located in the old town of Uppsala and easy to visit.

The cathedral is absolutly beautiful. It looks really impressive from the outside and is visible fromnalmost anywhere in the city. The inside is also amazing. There is a beautiful grave in the front and glass panels. If you are lucky there might be a choir singing while you visit.

Refered as one of the largest cathedral in Sweden. It is regarded as heritage and iconic symbol. Nice architecture. It is nice to visit and look around. But, the guided tour is recommended if you have interest in history and really want to know more. Interesting facts:
1. It was build with more than 50 Million bricks!
2. The tower shapes were changed several times! By different architectures.
3. When it was planned to build, it was planned to be a big one, not like other cathedral that was build then later expanded. Based on demand. It can accommodate 900 people at a time on the benches, but with additional chairs it can accommodate comfortably 2000 people at a time.
4. Etc.. etc..
Thanks for reading 📚🙏
Visit around spring /summer/early fall, the city of uppsala is more beautiful then. 😍

Gorgeous brick work and impressive spires on the outside bring scope to the fantastic interior. Admission to the church is free, to see the great treasures that survived the fire in the 1700s, there is a cost. Recommend getting the guide book from the gift shop before wandering, as the free pamphlet only touches lightly on all the church has to offer for sight seeing.

An old cathedral at the heart of Uppsala. The location of the cathedral is very close to the Uppsala slott. Interior of the cathedral is something to blow your mind. The cathedral has the highest tower among all churches in Scandinavia.

Wonderful church with a lot of Swedish history, dating back to 1270 and before that, the guided tour was very interesting.
It's free to enter of you are not too many, but there is a cost for groups.

It is a lovely place to visit. The boat trip is beautiful, the island is interesting. The stuff are very friendly and welcoming and the food in the restaurant were surprisingly delicious and cheap.

Not that much to see. There are a lot of hills and you'll be explained that under these hills are vikings. Not much more then it. There is reconstruction of village, but with several clear mistakes.

A long way through the water to reach the island and see some tombs. The Museum is really small and has not really much to see. Vikings old settlement is nice touch.
Nothing to do on the island.
Only one restaurant and nothing else.

The museum on Birka is not very big but the guide was enthusiastic.

We did a boat tour from Stockholm and had a lot of fun and also learned a lot about vikings as well as Stockholm and it's surroundings, both, on the boat as well as on Birka. Would defenitely recommend the day trip to everyone who is interested in vikings and history of sweden!

Really fascinating place, the old viking settlement is gone but they've created an authentic viking village and the museum has pretty impressive scale models. The visit includes a guided tour of the site. It's a full day's outing though. If you plan ahead grab some sandwiches and drinks from a supermarket and don't miss the boat back because it's a long walk home.

Nice Island and a good feeling to be so close by the roots of the wikings. The information what we got during the walk around were very good. Also traveling by boat was a nice experience.
If you habe enough time in Stockholm and a nice wether you can do it.
Also for geocaching you have time if you like it to find some Caches and for an adventure lab as well.
We bought the Stockholm Card and so it was included.

Very authentic feel and a lovely little museum and very beautiful setting, although the food was good in the restaurant it was very expensive. And if you are getting the boat there, make sure you get a seat as soon as you board as there is not enough seats for all passengers inside if the weather is bad, so we ended up sitting on the floor. But the staff where super friendly, knowledgeable and the tour was great!

Nice boat ride out and a good interesting tour. Not much to see in terms of ruins but lots of burial mounds and nice views.

Excellent information and reconstructions and dioramas about the Viking community that existed here. Once you arrive at the island, it's great. BUT it is very unclear where to go to get the boat to the island. No signs. We had to ask locals.
Located in Sweden's first town founded as Christian, this ruined church dates from the 12th century.
The ruins of St. Olof's Church are located right in front of the Sigtuna beach.
And there is a parking lot next to the premises of the ruins. Passing through the cemetery and St. Mary's Church, we reached the back side of the ruins.
This ancient ruin is spectacular and well worth visiting. Because of its excellent preservation, you can now independently explore the ruin.
There are informative signs at the ruin that provide more information about the church.

St. Olaf's ruins is located at 5 mins walk from Sigtuna bus station. Its a very old structure that speaks of centuries old history. Excavations around this place suggest the existence of even older structure that goes before 12th century. The Church is surrounded by a grave yard and generally the gates of the ruins are locked so tourists cannot enter but its definitely well preserved.
Sneha Ganesan — Google review
Interesting ruins surrounded a cementery that makes it the creepiest from the 3 ruins of Sigtuna.
Sebastian D'Agostino — Google review
Built in the first half of the 12th Century, St Olaf’s Church (S:t Olof) was one of many stone churches erected in Sigtuna to demonstrate not only the wealth and power of the Catholic Church but to send a strong message to ordinary people who might still hold pagan beliefs. Once Sigtuna lost its importance in the late Middle Ages the churches began to fall into decay. Fortunately for us, their ruins add to the wonderful ambiance of this very gorgeous place. Take the time to walk through a structure and touch the stones hewn from rock 900 years ago.

Nice things to see. Sigtuna has an important place in Sweden's early history. It is the oldest town in Sweden, having been founded in 980.

A nice low-key site. It doesn't claim to be a museum, even though it has been a very important landmark and is still part of Swedens history. If only it had some signs with some information on the history of the church and town!!!!!
Surrounded by old stones showing clear ruins, and located in a small but peaceful graveyard, the ruins are definitely worth some time when visiting Sigtuna. Do be mindful though, it is still a graveyard.

Strandvillan's Café is a charming and cozy spot located in Sigtuna, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The café features simple yet inviting interior decor, with the option to enjoy outdoor seating with views of the nearby waterfront. Visitors can indulge in delicious baked goods, well-cooked meals, and delectable sweets while taking in the picturesque surroundings. The staff are known for their friendly and helpful service, making it an ideal place to relax and savor some delightful treats.
A very, very cosy cafe with a room with simple decoration that makes us feel we belong there.
Also, exterior tables, some with view to the lake (well... in Sweden, I struggle to know if I m standing in front of a sea, river, or lake ! 🤔)
A small independent house selling ice creams (I didn't enter).
I went to this Café already more than once. For cakes ! It's all very tasty.
