Turku Castle, founded in 1280 at the mouth of the Aurajoki River, is Finland's largest fortress. It has undergone significant transformations from a simple island fortress to a Renaissance palace. The castle houses a historical museum that traces its history from medieval fort to renaissance palace. Visitors can explore two dungeons and lavish banqueting halls while learning about Turku's medieval past through models that showcase the castle's growth.
One of the most beautiful castles I have seen in Finland. Must visit. Excellent collection and presentation. Well maintained

Very interesting castle. The interior design is contemporary and the ticket price is okay for the size. Interesting insight into the Middle Ages of Finland. There were a few families with small children on site, so it was certainly well suited for children. I don't recommended buying tickets in advance, cause there weren't lots of visitors.
Bj?rn Roger Felgner — Google review
If you want to learn about Finland history, this castle is where you should begin. It is a total representation of happenings during time and you get the chance to see the change since medival time. Highly recommended place!

Although a little way out of central Turku, it is well worth the easy walk along the river or short bus ride to visit the castle, which can easily absorb half a day or more. It was badly damage in World War II, and it has been rebuilt with the minimum of conjectural reconstruction, and is a delightful labyrinth in which to immerse yourself for a few hours. The original castle is a bewildering journey of passageways and staircases (there is a really helpful room containing models of the castle through the centuries), with the lower part focussed on the medieval era and the upper part on the Renaissance period. The bailey, at the front, is part castle history and part museum of nineteenth-century Turku interiors. There’s a café/restaurant in the courtyard for sustenance, and helpful staff positioned strategically around the tourist route.

My wife and I spent 3 hours going through the castle a few years ago, and wanted to come again. This time we spent 4.5 hours. I truly enjoy this castle.
Harry Marttinen — Google review
We visited here on a weekend. We arrived a bit last minute, and didn’t have enough time to see all of the castle. There weren’t many guests left. Us and two other groups.
Nevertheless, the castle is well preserved and I really liked the staff; Knowledgeable, polite and with a positive attitude.
I advise to definitely have at least 2 hours of time, so you can relax and enjoy the place in peace.
The tickets for adults are 12€, kids (7-15) 5€, under 7 are free. There’s also special family tickets etc, you can ask at the front desk. You may also use the museum card.
If you’re a wheelchair user or have trouble walking, some areas may be impossible for you to access, while others a bit hard. There seems to be an elevator, which you can use to get to some parts, so not completely inaccessible.
Stefania — Google review
Beautiful large castle - probably the best i have seen - very well preserved and taken care of, with lots if expositions and information. I ran through it for about an hour, but if you want it proper take at least 2-3 hours. There are also guided tours. Definitely recommended!

It was an amazing place. You fall inlove with the history. As of this moment though, you need to have COVID pass as requirement and also ticket for the museum tours which apparently we did not rake since according to the hotel my covid pass is not accepted which I dont get since how could I possibly enter the country 😑😑 they are using THL so yez, if you guys have covid cert from Asia, like me, you might get problem which is tje worst

Great place to get to know about history of the castle and the city. Absolutely love its historic atmosphere and the detailed guidance on the signs. I could easily wandered around designed 'tours' without a guide person. The exhibitions were amazing with lots of items displayed along with interesting notes about them. Just 3-km walk along Aura river to get there from the Cathedral. Highly recommend!!! (Idk why but on the day I got there, there were many families with small kids running around 😂, so probably it can be a nice place for family too)

Must visit when you're in ancient capital Turku. Its stories and information tell you a lots of Finnish history and culture in the past. If you wanna discover all corners of the castle, current ticket is 14e. Highly recommended

A wonderful castle, which is a must for every visitor to Turku!
A beautiful building that underwent a conservation process, and its spaces have become a living museum of extraordinary history. The museum includes dramatic exhibition spaces, and spaces with interactive displays for children who can be almost real knights🤺🤺, kings and queens👸🤴🏻 Throughout the year, there are unique activities, plays and workshops for children.
A place that the children want to return to again and again...
The complex has a cafe with a unique atmosphere. Hot and sweet chocolate was an excellent end to a winter visit to the castle...☕☕

Turku Castle exceeded my expectations! The artifacts on display were fascinating, and the castle's preservation is truly impressive. A must-visit for history enthusiasts!

This place deserves 10 out of 5 stars!!! The castle is amazing itself as well as the modern restoration and information regarding how they did it. And just when you think you're done there's a whole other area filled with slightly more modern furniture, clothing, metalwork and more! Be sure to give yourself lots of time. I'm a slow museum visitor but I don't think I could see it all in one day.
kfour ten — Google review
I could’ve spent easily 2 more hours in there. I learned so much about Turku’s (and Finland in general) history at this museum. The staff is kind and helpful and eager to explain. I wish the lighting could be a little brighter because there were some exhibit notes that I couldn’t read because of how dim the castle was. The castle can also be rented out for special occasions like weddings and such! I was grateful that most rooms had its exhibit notes translated in English.

Despite Turku Castle's rich history and knowledgeable staff, our overall experience was marred by an unexpected policy regarding ticket validity. On our first visit, we purchased tickets in the late afternoon but didn't have time to explore the entire castle. When we returned the following day to continue our tour, we were informed that we needed to purchase new tickets, despite having paid €14 each for the original tickets.
While some of the staff members were genuinely passionate about sharing the castle's history, our encounter with the older lady at the reception left a sour taste. Her dismissive attitude and the lack of flexibility regarding ticket validity tarnished our overall impression of the castle. It's disheartening to see a place with such a rich heritage adopting a money-oriented approach that prioritizes ticket sales over customer satisfaction.
We suggest that Turku Castle consider extending the validity of their tickets to 24 hours, allowing visitors to fully explore the castle at their own pace without the burden of purchasing multiple tickets. This change would be more customer-friendly and align with the spirit of a historical landmark that deserves to be appreciated and understood in its entirety.

Must visit sight when you are in Turku. The castle itself is an impressive building, from the inside even more so than from the outside. The exhibition is very interesting and informative. You can spend hours here learning about finnish history. All descriptions are available in english.

Turku Castle, Linnankatu 80, 20100 Turku
Among Finland’s most prized pieces of national heritage, as well as one of its oldest buildings, Turku Castle took shape in the late-1200s during Finland’s Swedish period.
It was built to defend their province of Eastland but took on all sorts of different roles over the next few centuries: It was a luxurious palace, administrative centre, seat of government, warehouse and then a prison right up to the end of the 1800s.
Following a delay, the building was finally renovated in 1987 and is now a museum.
Currently under maintenance and repair activities.

Turku Cathedral, the main Lutheran church in Finland, is a large brick Gothic structure that has been reconstructed multiple times after destructive fires. The cathedral, consecrated in 1300 and restored after a fire in 1827, boasts impressive frescoes and royal tombs as well as a religious museum featuring medieval sculptures and other artifacts. Visitors can also enjoy free summer concerts showcasing the cathedral's organ on Tuesdays at 8pm.
Good place to visit if you’re in Turku and you will be astonished if you imagine about the time it was built!
View from the outside is great and there’s no entry ticket.

Beautiful cathedral. Located in the centre. Recommended to see when you are in Turku.
Muhammed Ammar Sancar — Google review
In a generally low-rise city centre, Turku Cathedral is a striking, dominant presence. Externally, it has the appearance of many alterations across the centuries, whereas first impressions inside are of a harmonious, peaceful place. More detailed exploration will show all the ways it has changed over the years, but it is an interesting church to explore, with variously chapels and monuments revealing a long and complex history. It’s also worth spending a little time sitting and soaking up the tranquility amidst the busy city outside.
Phil Bradford — Google review
Beautiful cathedral. Very unusual look to it. There is a small museum upstairs that only costs 2 euro and I think it was interesting and definitely worth the few minutes it took to go up. There are some very cool models of the cathedral from various stages in its history. The visit has spurred me to read up a little more about the history of Turku and the great fire.
Mark Hall — Google review
It was the most beautiful and wonderful church I have ever been to visit in Northern Europe. As soon as I entered, the sound of pipe organ ensemble, which sounded meek, and the quiet, sacred interior, was really beautiful. I entered without expecting much but the inside was so beautiful that I stayed in the cathedral for 30 minutes.

Nice cathedral close to the river.
manuel perea — Google review
Unless you are very much into churches, the best way for me to enjoy this building is to sit at the outside restaurant/food stand area close by, and just chill there. You will have the church in the background for the pictures, and at the same time, the feeling that you are in the city center.
Jana Kri?tanov? — Google review
The cathedral is an amazing piece of history. Not only is the building still in use and beautifully maintained, they have also taken care to preserve the evidence of its many incarnations. The models showing its transformation over the centuries was well worth the visit. But then there was more! Statues, metalwork in silver and pewter, and textiles dating back centuries. One of the most moving buildings I have had the pleasure of visiting. ♥️♥️♥️

When you see the church and think about the time when it was built, you can't help but be astonished. One of the greatest cathedrals in Finland.

"Proper Finland" is the oldest part of the country, and the Cathedral of Turku represent the place in which Finland, as we know it today, took its' first steps. The old graves under the cathedral are just like in the middle Europes cathedrals, but in addition, there are, for example miniatures from the vessels that were absolute life line for Finns for centuries. Turku Cathedral is part of everyday life even today. At the time of the visit, there were exhibition from Ukraine and children's music school.
Open for all for free.

This is the most sacred place in Turku. Built in 1300s and you can see the old constructions and renovations done over the years. Good place for history lovers. There are severel chappels and glorious artworks including glass paintings. One of the most impressive thing is the pipe organ which is played several times a day. There is an small museum inside which cost 2€ for an adult which mainly includes the history of the cathedral.

The cathedral is important but nothing exceptional. What made the visit great was the rehearsal with the organ (every Tuesday, there are free concerts). The museum is also a big plus. Compact on the right side of the church.
Marco Giustiniani — Google review
Beautiful castle, full of history and many notable Swedish people who are laid to rest here. Clean toilets available too but only one for each gender + handicap toilet near the entrance. Entry to the cathedral is free of charge. Very big and peaceful. There's also a corner for children to play.

Located in the Pyynikki district of Tampere, the Pyynikki Coffee Shop & Observation Tower is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The small cafe, nestled in the old observation tower, is renowned for its freshly baked and delicious doughnuts that are a hit on social media. Visitors can also enjoy locally roasted coffee from Tampereen Paahtimo while taking in the stunning panoramic views from the 26-meter lookout tower atop Pyynikki hill.
Place is historical and so warm. Observation tower visiting is 2 euros. Elevator usage is eligible. Prices are not expensive, as I remember coffee was 3 euros around. And there is a "munkki" in the place, it's dessert. That's was pretty good. You need to visit this place if you come to Tampere!

Nice walk through the woods to reach this Tampere gem.
Great views of Tampere, the lakes, and the forests that spread into the distance.
Only 2 Euros to go up the tower by lift or walk. At the top, take the ladder out to the outside observation area.
Once finished, enjoy a fresh coffee and cake/doughnut in the little cafe.

My second visit in five years to the famous Pyynikki Näkötornin Kahvila for coffee, a doughnut and a spectacular view of beautiful Tampere. I can honestly say that I have never had a better doughnut anywhere, and the coffee is phenomenal too! For €2 you can go up the tower for some great views. Some tourist brochures available downstairs too. A must see

This place is so unique! Locals invited us to have coffee...well, this experience was really nice and so unique! Fresh air, we ordered a coffee and a incredible simple donuts..then we walked behind the tower ..we ate wild blueberries and other wild berries! We also had the view from the tower! Highly recommended! A beautiful view of Tampere.

Tiny cafe in Pyynikki Tower with long queues and the best donuts in whole Finland. If you want to visit the tower, there is never a queue. So you can pass that long line and go right up to tower. But if you want to taste those amazing donuts, prepare to wait. It’s worth for it.

It's a nice place for a quick bite. The munki🍩 is one of the best in Tampere. Munki🍩 plus coffee ☕ is the perfect combination. It's near to the city. Walking to the shop is also a nice experience 🏞️.

It's a tiny place a little outside of Tampere city center, but definitely worth visiting. The donuts are famous and rightfully so called the best. They are bouncy and the cardamom gives it that warmth. Don't be scared of the sugar on top, it's not too sweet. I think everyone should make a little detour from Tampere to eat these

They say it's the best cafe in town and I can't argue. The renowned munkki is indeed tasty! The Tower is also worth visiting, the view is quite something. The place can be busy during holidays, but the queue is quite manageable.

Good lake view point, good city and nature watch. Tasty fresh Munkki (🍩) to eat with hot kahvi (Coffee). One can have a nature trail of 2.5 km from there.

My friend from Tampere introduced me to this place. I've visited Tampere many times before, but this was my first opportunity to come here and try these renowned donuts. I truly feel like coming here was the right decision. The donuts are incredibly delicious, not overly sweet and delightfully soft. Inside the café, the enticing aroma of freshly baked donuts fills the air. The small, cozy ambiance is delightful. They offer seating both indoors and outdoors, surrounded by a beautiful environment that blends seamlessly with nature and fresh air. The best part is arriving here on a chilly day, taking in the panoramic view of Tampere city from above, enjoying a piece of donut, and sipping a cup of aromatic coffee or hot chocolate. Indulging in donuts and tea here makes me feel like life slows down, and I'm harmonizing with the beautiful nature of Tampere. I genuinely adore this place and am certain I'll return on my next visit to Tampere.
P.s: I devoured the entire donut right after snapping this first photo. Regrettably, I ate it all without capturing a single picture of this incredibly delicious donut.

Without a doubt, this shop is a good one to spend your time eating sweets Munkki! The flavor is different from other Munkki that existed in Tampere as my reference. The coffee in this shop is also good. Maybe the size of the cafe is too small. But they have options outside. You can go to an observation tower to sightseeing

We visited this cafe and paid with a 1000,- bill (tonnin seteli). This guy gave me back just few coins! I complained about this, but he just stood silent behind the register with a blank stare! Visit the Lennusadam Seaplane Harbour in Tallinn, Estonia to explore the country's maritime history and collection of over 200 authentic objects. Highlights include the 1937 Lembit submarine, one of Europe's oldest sunken ships and more. The museum is a popular spot for maritime enthusiasts of all ages with many interactive activities and simulators to make the experience fun and memorable.
Super interesting museum for everyone. Impressive old submarine and maritime objects inside, and the chance to explore an old icebreaker ship and a military ship outside. It also has interactive fun content for younger visitors: flight simulator, green screen with sailor clothes, remote controlled boats etc. 8€ ticket for students.

Not bought the ticket but walked through the surroundings of the museum.
I’ll say for me it’s enough as you can see many old military ships with a description on their past history. If I had more time I would have gone inside the museum, but also I would recommend to pass by

Gorgeous building and really interesting museum with a lot of interactive exhibits and unique maritime artifacts. Being able to go inside of the Russian submarine was a really interesting, unexpected plus. Tickets are 15€ per person without the Tallinn card, but are worth it even full-price. There’s also a restaurant/cafe inside and another steamship behind the building you are able to tour with the same ticket. The airplane hangar itself is stunning.

This Seaplane Hangar now turned into a naval museum was built in 1916 as part of the sea fortress system protecting Saint Petersburg. This building is one of the most significant engineering and technical accomplishments of the 20th century, due to its massive domes and no supporting pillars. The museum has on display many interesting naval hardware from boats, a seaplane, estonian navy information, artillery pieces and even a real submarine - the Lembit. On the harbour area, there are many vessels that can be observed and even visited. One of the best naval museums to visit in Europe!
Ivan Garcia — Google review
Doesn’t disappoint, whether you are interested in boats or not.
The building is a huge concrete dome, that used to be a seaplane harbor.
The museum, which is a big open space, is pleasant to walk through. There is space, a lot to see and overall the navigation is easy.
My favorite part was the visit of the submarine, impressive and unusual.
Collections contains: unusual boats, cannons for coastlines/boats, seaplane replicas, boats models etc.
There are also boats to see in the port next to the museum.

I would highly recommend the Sea Harbour Museum to anyone with an interest in maritime history or simply looking for an engaging and enlightening outing. It is an absolute gem that offers an immersive journey through time, leaving visitors with a newfound appreciation for the impact of sea harbours on the world we know today. A visit to this museum is sure to leave an indelible mark and ignite a sense of wanderlust in even the most seasoned traveler.

Excellent museum, featuring a submarine from the 1930s that you can walk around in. There are many good interactive exhibits, including a flight simulator in a fake plane (the plane moves while you pilot it, everyone enjoyed that.) Unfortunately, several of the interactive exhibits were broken, but enough were still working that this museum deserves five stars - it was our favorite of the trip. I hope the museum gets on top of the maintenance before anything else breaks!

The Lennusadam Maritime Museum in Tallinn is a fascinating destination for family outings, especially with children. This museum, housed in a historical seaplane hangar, offers a unique glimpse into Estonia's maritime past. It's an excellent place to bring your son, as it features interactive exhibits, including submarines and a variety of seafaring vessels. To fully appreciate everything Lennusadam has to offer, it's advisable to allocate at least two hours for your visit, ensuring you have ample time to explore all its intriguing displays and activities.

The museum's extensive grounds house truly unique exhibits, including the entire submarine Lembit, various smaller sport vessels, and even the remains of a medieval boat. You'll find multiple Soviet and some German artillery units, primarily from military ships, that can be touched and operated to some extent. Occasionally, the museum hosts fascinating temporary exhibitions, such as the one showcasing contemporary sailors on long voyages. What sets this place apart is its ability to host banquets and public events on its spacious premises, typically in the evening after regular museum visitors have left.
Ivan Kuprijanov — Google review
Absolutely amazing museum. I don't understand why this isn't advertised more! Lots of interactive exhibitions, the chance to go into an actual submarine. Then it continues outside with a massive icebreaker ship. At first it seems you can only go on a small part of the deck, but there is a small sign in one of the doors that you can go in and visit all over the ship, including the engine rooms. Cannot recommend this museum more for anyone visiting Tallinn.

Fascinating, so much to explore - take your time and soak it in. Audio guide not essential, but be warned that there will be school groups and the shape of the building will make the noise echo. If you time your visit well, you'll escape that and be able to roam almost freely.

The Toompea is a prominent limestone hill located in Tallinn's old town, which offers great views of the city and its surroundings. On top of the mount, you can find important historical sights, including Toompea Castle, St. Olafs Church and Aleksander Nevsky Cathedral. The peak is also well-known for being the most popular viewpoint in Tallinn, with the old town below it on clear days.
Pretty! Prague’s vibe but you still can tell the buildings are different, a cool mix of culture of Russia / east EU/ Swedish. Domes of church some are in round / triangular

If you like the views, this is the place where you should go to in Tallinn. There are multiple platforms where you can see something form the city, and a lot of shaded places if you want to chill somewhere under the trees.

The Toompea hill and Castle are located near the famous Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and it’s also 10 minutes walking distance from the Old town main square.
We didn’t visit the building inside, and we saw there were English tours that you could book, but we won’t had enough time and we decided to walk around and check the beautiful views that this place has from Tallinn old town city and we think it’s a nice place to explore a little more if you have more time.

Tips:
- Comfortable shoes are recommended, since the pavement of the Old Town streets, in general, are made with paving stones.

Vanalinn, which is situated in the Kesklinn district of Tallinn, Estonia's capital, is a subdistrict with a populace of 4,437. The region has a rich history and boasts stunning architecture that dates back centuries. Vanalinn offers an array of cultural landmarks and attractions that attract visitors from around the world. Despite its small size, Vanalinn is a vibrant community with plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes to explore.
The Tallinn Town Hall is a historical landmark located in the heart of Tallinns Old Town. Built in 1404, the building is one of the oldest still surviving structures in Scandinavia and one of the most beautiful examples of Gothic architecture. The square around which it stands has been home to many merchant houses and marketplaces over the centuries, and has been the centre of life in Tallinn for many centuries.
Lovely. Tallinn Raekoda has existed since the 13th century in different shapes and forms. It is a central part of old town.
The town hall tower can be ascended throughout the year but the town hall itself is mostly only open for events.
The town hall was opened today for a concert. The musicians played a mix of classical and modern songs, it was spectacular.
I checked out everything in detail, from the detailed wood carvings to the tapestries, wooden benches and cellar level museum.
The museum hosts a detailed history and models of how the town hall developed over time. Including some gruesome stories of executions and historical costumes.
Upstairs, before the concert, the guard and one of the guarding ladies were so lovely to pose for photos. :)

One of the more beautiful Old Towns I have visited.

Town Hall and it's square is a center of the miniature universe called Tallinn Old town. The entire old part of the city is quite compact but very homogeneous, very little intrusions of modern architecture, and the old wall of Tallinn makes a nice boundary between old and new. Lots of different restaurants to choose from, like in other touristy places, locations close to the main attractions.

Tallinn Town Hall, a magnificent Gothic structure in the heart of Old Town, is a must-see for history buffs. Built in the 14th century, it boasts the title of the only surviving Gothic town hall in all of northern Europe. While the interior may not be as grand as some other European town halls, it offers a unique glimpse into medieval Tallinn with its intricate wood carvings, grand halls, and the oldest preserved wooden bench in Estonia.

A landmark of the old town, it is converted to a museum now. You can buy tickets at the entrance and there's not much of a crowd. A nice place to know the history of the city and the adjoining tower for a good view of the old town.

Approaching Tallinn Town Hall, you are immediately captivated by its magnificent facade. The architecture is a blend of Gothic and Baroque styles, adorned with intricate details, ornate decorations, and a towering spire. The well-preserved exterior transports visitors back in time, allowing them to marvel at the craftsmanship of the era.
Upon entering the Town Hall, you are welcomed into a world of historical significance. The interior is equally impressive, with beautifully preserved halls, grand staircases, and impressive artworks. The Great Hall, in particular, showcases the rich heritage of Tallinn, providing a glimpse into the city's governance and the grandeur of its past.
Throughout the year, Tallinn Town Hall also hosts various events, including concerts, exhibitions, and cultural festivities. These events further enhance the visitor experience, offering a chance to witness the Town Hall come alive with activity and celebration.

The spacious hall is located on the second floor of the building. I attended a concert here. The quartet, consisting of a violin, viola, cello, and piano, sounded quite impressive. The high ceiling enhanced the excellent acoustics, while the meticulously restored medieval interior created a refined aesthetic and a special atmosphere. The lighting was also well-balanced, not overly bright for the audience area, but sufficiently strong to clearly see all the details of the performing musicians and their instruments, even from the back rows.

A MUST, while visiting Tallinn. Beautiful ancient building with very interesting history of the HANSE cities. Beautiful old tapestries and wooden frescoes with biblical motifs or medieval depictions.

Most photos and videos are the views from up the town hall’s tower, which I think is worth the visit. There are about 150 plus steps upwards. And while you are walking up, do notice the wooden flat planks, which back in the day disallowed access upwards (if removed) and was used for security… just in case.
The entrance is about 4 euros and if you really want a unique experience, go up there right at the top of the hour so you can see and hear the tower bell ring right in front of you. See the first video for reference. All in all a cool bird’s eye view of this medieval town.

Beautifully preserved and well maintained town hall area that gives you glimpses of old Tallinn and it's people and culture. You can also witness the Christmas market and enjoy the holiday festivities there if you plan to visit in December.
Shamit Ahmed — Google review
The top location to visit in Tallinn, this town hall has a colourful history that dates back to medieval times, with its iconic tower overlooking old town.
Visitors can enter the town hall by buying a ticket, it's free for Tallinn Card holders, where you can learn more about the town hall's history in relation to Tallinn. You'll get to climb all the way to the rooftop as part of the entry. You can also climb the adjacent tower with the same ticket, but we didn't do it because we're lazy.
The exhibition is quite informative and it feels surreal to be in such a historical place. You also get to admire the evolving architecture of the building.
Your visit to Estonia would not be complete without dropping by here, even if you're just admiring it from the outside.

1 | Very nice historical centre and town hall, definitely worth a visit.
2 | I was very impressed that the centre is not plagued by the ills of tourism. No alcohol bars, no massages, no weird museums. Instead, at the time of the visit, there was an installation with herbs and potted trees in the city. And nice wooden seating.
3 | Even after dark I felt safe in the place.

I think Tallinn's Old Town is an exciting destination for everyone on vacation. I live in Finland, so getting here is quite easy for me. You can easily visit in the morning and return to Finland in the evening, just like our group did. There's really no debate Tallinn is incredibly beautiful, historic, and much more affordable than Finland. I visited in summer, with warm weather, golden sunshine, and greenery and flowers everywhere. You can tell that many tourists come here to explore. I didn't find the food particularly outstanding, but that's just my opinion, and I didn't have much time to try many traditional Estonian dishes. There are plenty of places for people to discover during a trip to Tallinn.

Heureka is a fantastic interactive science museum with daily shows, 2 temporary exhibition areas, and a park. It also has a digital planetarium. The place is great for kids as well as adults and is easy to get to via the train.
Heureka is the wonderful place for kids under 12 years kids, I have 3 kids, they are 17, 15, 7, we have visited Heureka minimum at least over 10 times over last 5 years, and I always recommend to my friends who come to visit us or Helsinki with kids, I visited it last Sunday with my little boy after skiing in Vihti ski center at 15:00, even we were there just around 90 minutes, but I really enjoy the time with my lovely boy, he requested to visit Heureka after ski. It was a really fun experience, the space themed exhibition was a bit disappointing as we expected a bit more interaction or super interesting things to see, but it was mainly text and screens. It's cool anyway if you are interested in space related things and you're not with toodlers or babies. The rest is super cool. The kids can play and learn at the same time. The restaurant has good options and I'm ready for my next visit.

The ruins of Rakvere Castle are magnificent, with well-restored fortress walls strong enough to withstand some climbing. However, be cautious during winter climbs as it can be slightly dangerous, and it's fully at your own responsibility Enjoyable exploration of multiple inner rooms reveals surprises. In the Hall of Swords, you can try realistic replicas spanning from the 10th to the 19th centuries. Ramified passages and galleries are well interconnected.
The Alchemy Hall/room of science houses some interesting artifacts. Every few hours, fascinating excursions take place, such as visits to the torture chamber or the room of science, where you hear wonderful stories about the life, death, and beliefs of medieval European cities' populations. In the middle of the castle, a nice farmyard with sheep, goats, rabbits, geese, and even a wonderful donkey has been established.
Nearby, there are informative tables discussing the relationship between the Brothel and expression of Love in the medieval population.-) Additionally, there's a very nice and atmospheric eating place where, for 3 euros, you can enjoy a warm and delightful glass of mulled wine.

This is an interesting place worth visiting to plunge into the Middle Ages. Chickens and rabbits run around the yard. Soldiers are on duty. It was very knowledgeable to hear about the justice system in the Middle Ages. The torture chamber makes you wonder why such cruelty was needed. In the basement, there is a "room of fear" attraction called "Hell," so if you go down there, try to find your way up, or you will be trapped there forever 👻👣🙀😆

Revered art gallery in the restored Narva Castle & fortress, all set in parklike surroundings.
The museum costs 4 euros make sure to visit this place if you are in Narva! The museum has a tower where you will get an amazing view between Estonia and Russian castle, there is an elevator however it only reaches the 3rd floor from a total of 7.
They will also give you a coin that you are able to exchange for a souvenir, which is a really nice perk.

Museum with a very informative tour of the history of Narva.
At the entrance we were given phones that told us more info after scanning at a given exposures which was really helpful (texts in Estonian, English, Russian, Finish and Latvian).
The architecture and the design of exposition was very interesting and interactive, however, the navigation in the museum was a little bit confusing and we got lost few times ( and I guess we did not see it all 😅)
The overall tour was great and you can also see beautiful views from there, worth to visit!

Beautifully restored Castle with central heating! A bit hot on the day I visited in August but must be lovely in winter. Unfortunately the audio guide only relates to the temporary exhibition and not on the castle itself. All permanent displays were in Estonian or Russian only.

Narva Castle has seen massive investments, which resulted in opening new areas, addition of new interactive expositions (also suitable for children).

I was born in Narva, but I left Estonia when I was around 18 years old. So, it's been around 12 years since I saw Hermann (=Narva) Castle (the white tower)! It is the most beautiful place in Narva in my opinion. It stands on Narva River which divides Estonia and Russia. When I was a child, I remember that the Castle had extensive collection of artefacts and items from various periods of time to showcase the history of Narva and the castle itself. I also remember that it was quite hard to climb upstairs for me! However, when I visited castle now, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they got elevator! The exhibitions are now skillfully curated to show different moments of Narva's history. It was great to see physical objects, 3D animations of the life in the medieval Hermann castle, 2D story of how life has changed over many centuries, and old movies of Narva. I loved the views from the top of the Castle!
Apart from that, you can explore the yard of the Narva Castle, see various crafts displayed (you can buy them also), and gift shop. There are usually various craftspeople from Estonia and around the world in the summer time, but I missed them because there was preparation for a concert in the yard. I grabbed some traditional drink, kali (or kvass), which was poured in lovely mug. I had to drink it fast because I noticed swallows flying around, and I managed to photograph their chicks on the Castle's wall!
The area around the castle is lovely for a walk. You can pass it and see "clock" scupture, for example. There's lots of swallows and seagulls flying around. If you fancy to explore seaside city called Narva-Joesuu, you can go to the port near the Castle and catch Caroline.
Overall, if you have just a day in Narva, you definitely should visit this place. The history of Narva is really remarkable.

The Vyborg Castle State Museum is located on an islet in Vyborg Bay and was built by the Swedes in 1293. The castle has undergone many alterations throughout history, with most of it being from the 16th century. The museum offers a range of exhibitions, including a small museum on local history as well as displays about the civic history of the Finnish period and ecological makeup of the region.
I visited the Vyborg Castle State Museum and was thoroughly impressed by its beauty. The castle itself is a stunning example of medieval architecture, set against the picturesque backdrop of Vyborg. The museum offers a rich display of historical artifacts, providing deep insights into the region's history. Walking through its ancient halls and climbing its towers was like stepping back in time. The scenic views from the top are breathtaking and well worth the climb. Overall, the Vyborg Castle State Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in history and architecture.

1. Accessibility : Accessible by road and rail, as Vyborg town is significant in terms of transport.
So you can access from St. Petersburg or from Sortavala.
2. Content: Museum, St. Olaf Tower and the walls of the castle. The information for each artefact and historical items was accompanied with a Russian, Finnish, Swedish and English explanation. The museum showcases the history of Vyborg town, its humble beginnings, a section on the Winter War.
3. Toilets: Available.
4. Wheelchair accessibility/Disabled friendly? No.
5. Picturesque location? Yes.
Worth the visit? Vyborg Castle is good to visit, and can be planned for a day trip from St. Petersburg , if time permits, otherwise it is recommended to stay in this place.

Worth enough to visit ! The museum tell us a lot about the history of Vyborg. Most of discriptions are written in Russian but unexpectedly there are some English, also!
+At the end of October, some parts of the castle were under construction so I couldn't see the whole
Tips: They offer a special discount for Russian student card holders!
And I'm not sure about international student ID card but at least we can try it :)

Fantastic museum with several very different exhibitions, amongst them one being about the civic history of the Finnish period of Wyborg and the ecological make up of the region. Small and sweet and I would highly recommend!

Very exciting view from the tower, but very hard to get on the too of it.
Gatchina Palace, one of the largest and most opulent 18th century palace & gardens in Russia, has a museum with fine art, antiquities, and weaponry. It is located near Saint Petersburg.
Very nicely restored new rooms. Audio guide is recommended. Trip down stairs to the passage is fun especially for the children.

So impressive with this palace. I went there on autumn 2017. Outside in the morning was so quiet and no signs for tourists where is entrance but Russian pointed over there. Ticket price is 350 rubles for adults. There are 3 floor and 1 basement. Museum keepers was so nice and always try to tell history of this place even my Russian skill is fair.

The huge palace of Emperor Paul just started to turn into a museum. For a long time there was a naval school. Now museums are much smaller than a quarter of the building, but restoration work is underway. A special impression is left by the private chambers and the office of Emperor Alexander 3. Small rooms and low ceilings contrast sharply with the luxury of the rest of the building.

The Great Gatchina Palace is a palace in Gatchina, Leningrad Oblast, Russia. It was built from 1766 to 1781 by Antonio Rinaldi for Count Grigori Grigoryevich Orlov, who was a favourite of Catherine the Great, in Gatchina, a suburb of the royal capital Saint Petersburg. The Gatchina Palace combines classical architecture and themes of a medieval castle with ornate interiors typical of Russian classicism, located on a hill in central Gatchina next to Lake Serebryany. The Gatchina Palace became one of the favourite residences of the Russian Imperial Family, and during the 19th century was an important site of Russian politics. Since the February Revolution in 1917 it has been a museum and public park, and received UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1990.

Empress gave this palace to her lover who killed her husband, the emperor. When lover died she gave the palace to her son, who hated her and loved his killed Emperor father. Son became the emperor himself and build a brand new palace-castle where he was killed by his men.
Do you still need the GoT if you have real history of Russian Empire?

St. Isaac's Cathedral is a gargantuan, gold-plated dome cathedral in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It is one of the largest churches in the world of any denomination and is famous for its opulent, multicolored interior. Services are held almost every day for Orthodox worshippers and there is an entry fee for tourists year round.
Great outstanding church in Saint Petersburg. You can as well go on top of it’s not super cold outside. Must visit!

During my time working in St. Petersburg, walking past St. Isaac's Cathedral every day was a truly enjoyable experience. The cathedral's grand architecture and intricate details are breathtaking, making each stroll a visual delight. Its majestic dome and the beautiful façade never ceased to amaze me, no matter how often I saw them. The sense of history and culture it embodies adds a special charm to the daily routine. St. Isaac's Cathedral is not just a landmark; it's a source of daily inspiration and awe.

One of the best cathedrals I've ever been to. Both exterior and interior of the cathedral are amazing. The interior paintings and engravings are unrivaled while you can enjoy the picturesque view of St. Petersburg from the top of the building. The price of the museum is 350 ruble and you have to pay additional 200 rub for audio guide and further 200 rub to climb to the top of the cathedral.

Large and grand landmark building in St Peterburg. It took 40 years to construct this cathedral, under Montferrand's direction, from 1818 to 1858. It is the largest church in St Peterburg and renowned for its lavish interiors, as well as superb views of the city from its colonnade.

Amazing experience, loved it. Found little bird outside which I have never seen. See photo. We have not booked any guided tours inside, but another group let us joined them while we were inside. Yes, imagine this in England. No pay no service. Anyway. When you go in you get surrounded what you call "no phone era" when people did amazing things. Pay attention to every detail, some of the mosaic icons took 10 years to build. 10 years Karl!!!

This cathedral is an active church where you can go to the service, the time and days need to be specified. The cathedral itself is an architectural structure built in 1818-1858, the cathedral survived the years of the war of 1941-1945, near which potatoes were grown. You can get to the museum part inside the cathedral with a ticket at the entrance at the box office or online on the website, and there is also an additional opportunity to enjoy the view of the entire central part of the city by climbing the colonnade - an observation deck and take cool shots against the backdrop of the city.

St. Isaac's is still the world's largest Orthodox Shrine (the bigger future one in Bucharest is not yet finished) and the fourth largest Cathedral in the world.
It was built in 1858 by aristocracy funding in honor of Isaac the Dalmatian who was a patron saint of city founder Peter the Great. They didn't spare which is visible from outside and specially inside.
The exterior is adorned with a huge golden dome (which later inspired the US Capitol) and a total of 112 single hewn pink granite columns (you can see a movie and a model of building inside).
The interior is simply amazing, so lavish and rich it's hard to say what's more beautiful.
As all others in Russia it was banned for religion during the Communist regime and converted into a museum. Interesting fact is that St. Pet citizens refused being a Church again on a referendum, so it's still a museum (an outstanding one) with only occasional Church services.
As in any museum there's an entry fee, with a separate fee if you want to climb the dome, which I strongly suggest for great views.

One of the best cathedrals I've ever been to. Remarkable architecture. Amazing exterior and interior.
The panoramic view from the top of the cathedral is indeed remarkable and It offers a magnificent view over the Neva River, the St. Isaac’s and the Palace Squares as well as the Peter and Paul Fortress.
Make sure that you take into account the fact there is no elevator that could take you up there and will have to mount 262 steps of the spiral staircase by foot. You will be 43 meters above the ground and it could get windy.
Saint Isaac’s Cathedral is an absolute must-see tourist attraction in Saint Petersburg. I strongly recommend that you go and see this masterpiece with your own eyes.
St. Isaac's Cathedral was originally the city's main church and the largest cathedral in Russia. It was built between 1818 and 1858, by the French-born architect Auguste Montferrand, who was building it for 40 years. Monferrand passed away a month after he finished the creation to which he dedicated all his life..It was one of the most impressive landmarks of the Russian Imperial capital.
To decorate the interior it was necessary 882 lbs of gold, 16 tonnes of malachite and a thousand tonnes of bronze. The mosaic area took 7108 square yards. The exterior strikes with its imposing appearance, the effect is created by the massive columns and the huge dome (it later influenced the design of the Capitol in Washington, DC). The dome is gilded with 100 kilograms of gold. The golden dome can be seen from any part of the city, and in clear weather, even from the outskirts.
Currently functions as a museum with occasional church services . It is dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, a patron saint of Peter the Great, who had been born on the feast day of that saint .

The Peter and Paul Fortress is a historical landmark in Saint Petersburg that has been restored many times over the years. It is from its star-shaped defensive fortifications that the city slowly spread out around it. The fortress also contains a museum about the early city, as well as a cathedral.
Don't underestimate this stop on your St. Petersburg trip. Its fun, refreshing and educational (as is everything in this historical city). Stunning inside, and they did a mock sea battle in little boats which was very entertaining. Definitely do this!

Peter and Paul fortress is set on a tiny Hare island on the Neva river. It is the birthplace of the Imperial capital, as the city founder Peter the Great built a star shaped fortress here in 1703 from where the city started to grow.
The primary purpose of the fortress was protection against the Suedes, but actually never served for that. Instead, it was a political prison.
Today, it's main attraction is the same name Cathedral where the Royal Romanov family is buried including Peter the Great himself, as well the famous Catherine the Great.
Apart from that, there are several museums across the island which you can visit according to your liking.

What a grand fortress. 2.5 km from Nevsky ave, it is located on an island across Neva River. I walked up to fortress from my hotel at Nevsky avenue and enjoyed the sightseeing all the way to my destiny. You can snack on some ice cream and have beverages. There is a convergence of people every day. You can take tickets to the cathedral which costs about 500 rubles but it is worth spending. Glittering chandeliers and colourful art of the cathedral makes the whole experience exclusive. Usually, it is closed on Thursdays.

A good visit to close up to this iconic landmark. It's a big fort which you can enter free, with admission fees for the several separate museums. We bought the Combination ticket and still many places required an extra fee, even the toilets!! The cobbled streets made walking difficult. The main attraction is the Cathedral which us impressive like most others. Unique are the tombs of nobility,, notably Peter the Great and the family and 4 servants of last Tsar Nicholas II.
The Hermitage Museum is the largest and oldest museum in Russia, housing an immense collection of art spanning from ancient Greece and Rome to contemporary times. It's a popular tourist destination, with queues often stretching down the street, but is well worth the wait.
You have to take a few days to see everything on the Museum, it is huge! It is not by chance that the people took power in the past, the palace is huge and very incredible, with a wealth of details. I strongly recommend the visitation, just includ in your tourists plans and go!

Perfect for spending a cold winter day indoors, immersed in art and history! The tickets can be purchased online. Need separate tickets for separate buildings though... Or a combined ticket for the whole complex. Excellent service, old ladies sitting on chairs in the corners of various halls are very helpful. Lavatories are very clean, the Hermitage Cafe is a bit pricey, which is normal. The gift shop has a wide variety of products related to the museum and the art. But you need literally 10 years to enjoy each and every one of the art pieces exhibited at the Hermitage, so wear comfortable shoes! 😁

We visited the Hermitage just because it is one of the most known places in the world. It is truly grandiose, though. The exhibition is marvelous and everything is organized. It is very hard to find parking there, and we had to drive around for a long time to finally snatch a spot, so make sure to arrive earlier before your time to go in. The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg is an unparalleled treasure trove of art and history, a must-visit for any cultural enthusiast. Spanning vast corridors and countless rooms, it's imperative to allocate a full day for this immersive experience. The sheer scale and richness of the exhibits demand time and attention to truly appreciate.
One crucial tip: ensure you're well-nourished before embarking on this artistic journey. The museum doesn't offer on-site dining options, and the extensive exploration can be quite energy-consuming.
From the opulent Winter Palace to the awe-inspiring art collections, every corner reveals a piece of human creativity and history. Don't rush through; take your time to absorb the magnificence. The Hermitage is not just a museum; it's a testament to the depth and breadth of human achievement.
Visitors seeking an unforgettable encounter with art and history should prioritize the Hermitage. Plan ahead, indulge in a hearty meal, and be prepared to be transported through centuries of human creativity and ingenuity. This museum is a true marvel, deserving of every moment you invest.

I was stunned to see the massiveness of the whole square. You will find a lot of street musicians out there. Please do not forget to capture panorama shots of the square. It is worth watching.
This is a multicolored church that was designed in traditional Russian medieval style. It took over 20 years to be completed and it features 7,500 square meters of mosaics on the walls and ceilings. The building is impressive for its strict architecture, but it seems like a toy from afar due to its bright colors.
Cathedral On the Spilled Blood, Saint petersburg
This place is one of the main center of Russian orthodox Christianity. The orthodox Christianity is bit different from roman catholics. Different rituals, different patriach and different design of church.
This cathedral is one of the most cathedrals in the world. The decorations both inside and out are beyond anyone's imagination. The mosiac walls are common in middle eastern churches but it's interesting to see this art reached far north in russia. Its very interesting to how they make an image with small stones of different colors. Its a pain staking job and the final result is breathtaking.this is something like pixels on lcd screens.
Origins of orthodox Christianity is in Israel (Infact Judaism, Christianity, Islam all have roots in jerusalem) then to holy roman empire in istanbul and eventually found its way to Russia.
My effort to capture the beauty and detail with a mere mobile phone is definitely futile as nothing can compensate the beauty of this place but the human eye.

Excellent facade of the church which was grand and exquisite. Unfortunately the church was not open to visitors at the time of visit. The church was erected on the site where political nihilists assassinated Emperor Alexander II in March 1881 and that gave rise to the name of the church

As this Church much reminds on St. Basil's in Moscow it's not that old (neither is St. Pet as a city), but it has a very interesting history and breathtaking interiors which make it a must visit site. History facts:
- it was built in 1883 to commemorate the place of Tsar Alexander II assassination in 1881 - therefore "spilled blood",
- the Romanov imperial family funded the project,
- in order to house the exact place of assassination inside the Church, they narrowed the canal,
- after the 1917 Revolution overthrowing the Imperial regime, it was looted and semi-destroyed,
- WWII and Leningrad siege brought further destroy and it was turned into a morgue,
- after WWII Communist regime banned Church services likewise in all Russia, making it a warehouse,
- it was rebuilt during the 90's and reopened in 1997
- toady it's not a working Church, but the world's biggest mosaic museum with over 7.500 sqm of amazing artwork.
- photography is allowed, entry fee around 8$

The Tsarskoye Selo heritage preservation museum is a significant location that encompasses multiple imperial palaces and an extensive landscaped park complete with gardens. The site has historical significance and offers visitors the opportunity to explore the opulent residences of past monarchs. If you have time visit it. It is not like Petergoff, much bigger, and more places to see. Visit her palace and hermitage both interiors represents her unique personality. Hermitage pay is around 300 rubels. The entrance to the park around 150 rubels, and to the palace maybe 900 rubels, different prices for Russians. The queue to the palace can be very long. But everything is much more organised than in Petergoff. Gives you a very nice overall experience. Inside the park you can find fast food like hot dogs, tea and icecream... all around you when you walk the big park. Will take you one full day and you still might not finish it all. Alexandar palace has different entry, it is for free. Nice park, but you cant see the palace as it was under renovation when i made this review. The park is very nice though.

Absolutely fantastic place with very adorable prices!Don't know why is this place not such popular as Peterhoff but we enjoy it much more seen much more and 5 hours of walking go very quick.Looking forward to get back to Pushkin town and no doubt could see even better.Awesome, clean and wonderful place.Thank you very much for great impressions and inspiration for my art.
Park surrounding an 18th-century palace-turned-museum with English-style gardens & water features.
Magnificent place with intricate ceilings, beautiful in laid floors, spectacular chandeliers and amazing art work. Each room more grand than the other. What palace would be complete without its own theater!

Beautiful palace not far from the more touristy Tsarskoye Selo. Beautiful, intimate rooms in a fabulous park setting. The interiors are exquisite. No crowds when I visited. I recommend paying extra to see the private apartments of the dowager empress

A very beautiful and big park where one could walk and contemplate beauty for hours. There are lots of trees that look like a wild forest but it is obvious that they are also looked after.
I did not go into the museums so can't say about them.

Really great place to walk around. Visited in winter. Beautiful snow and icy Park. Probably even better in summer

A park that my family loves to walk during the summer. Our trip out this weekend was a bit early in the season and the weather was a bit chilly. During the summer that gardens are full or different kinds of flowers. There are even parts of the park where a person can go and lay out in the grass, a true luxury in Russia. Be sure and bring some nuts as there are many hungry squirrels who will gladly come get them out of your hand. This is a lot of fun for kids.

Situated on the western bank of the Volkhov River, surrounded by a delightful wooded park, lies one of Russia's oldest fortifications - The Kremlin. Originally named Detinets and dating back to the 9th century, it was reconstructed with brick in the 14th century and still stands today. This historical complex is open for visitors who can arrange guided tours through the tourist office. One can also enjoy stunning views of both the city and monument while walking along part of its walls.
The Vitoslavlitsy Museum of Wooden Architecture is an open-air history museum that exhibits folk wooden architecture including monuments dating from the 16th century and beyond. Situated close to the Yuriev Monastery, visitors can reach the museum by taking bus number 7 or a taxi. Very nice place :-) lecturers of history is super. But you need book in advance in tourist center. And spend some time , better plan 2h or 3h , even lecture is 1h only . By fact it Will be 2h of very interesting adventure.

Historical park shows the over 1000-year-old settlement of the Veliky Novgorod region. Here it becomes clear under what difficult conditions the majority of the population had to live for centuries. Very valuable that the historic wooden houses and traditional craftsmanship are retained 📜

Save your precious time and money, almost 80% things are closed due to construction work. I still decided to go, really beautiful place.
Can easily reach via Bus No. 7 (use 2GIS app for bus routes and timings).

This is a definite must go if you are in the town of Veliky Novgorod. This outdoor museum provides a pretty good flavour of how Russian houses and buildings in the countryside used to look like in the past. It was also a very pleasant surprise to find out that we could enter the buildings and poke around at the various recreated scenes.
Only giving it a 4 stars because two thirds of the museum was closed for restoration when I visited

It's nice but there is not that much to see, if you go then also visit the cathedral and the lake near by

The sculpture Pamyatnik Mikhailu Krugu offers a delightful experience for admirers of the renowned artist. However, it is advisable to incorporate a historical context note to honor the visitors. It is suggested that enthusiasts of Krug's melodious creations capture a photograph as well.

It was impossible to drive through due to repair work, everything was blocked and dug up (they changed the road surface, tiles, painted some building facades, laid cables and all that). I hope that already in the spring of 24. This update will please the eyes of citizens.
The monument itself is located in a small park, next to tents with souvenirs. There are various cafes nearby, but it’s more interesting to take a walk or relax on a bench next to it.

The whole family went from Moscow for a few days here, chose "East Asia", walked everywhere, visited everything. Very nice and well done, both outside and inside! Very diverse buildings, restaurants, you can immerse yourself in the aesthetics of different countries and religions. Be sure to visit the культурно-образовательный центр and the street with flags there, there are insanely many places, rooms and information on various countries, as well as a lot of souvenir shops, goods for almost every taste. Everyone will be satisfied, including matchbox collectors with different images and fans of magnets with Ayaka in the style of USSR posters, dakimakura with hot Xiao! :)

Very interesting place, with different sections depicting different regions of Russia and the world - Siberia, the Caucasus, Ukraine, Belarus, Japan, India, Nepal, and many others. There are themed hotels, restaurants, and exhibitions for each, as well as free excursions and paid workshops (pottery, soap making, candle dipping, e.t.c). Highly recommend for a few days in the summer or early autumn when the weather is nice. Good for families.

Fun place. But that mostly for organized groups that book tours and kids over 8 yrs old. The cafes are ok. The Korchma with Russian-Ukranian good is supposedly one of best at this locale. Most activities and exhibits inside the general park area are at additional cost. At far above average prices.

Great place to visit with family and children. Territory is huge and you have real examples of different houses in different centuries. To see everything you need whole day. What is more, you can go to several master classes where you can learn how to do some things. On a territory are some places with different animals. Really sad to see hasky dogs in a cages.
Catherine Exter — Google review
Feels like a project that they began to build but ran out of money. The hotels are cheap and ugly, the lighting everywhere is terrible, the landscaping is bad, the cafes are overpriced and the portions are tiny. Worse yet, there is nothing to do here. There are poorly-made "monuments" every 200 meters or so, but its clear they made them just to photograph them and mislead people into thinking this place is more interesting than it is. Come here and you will see how ugly and fake everything is. I really have no idea what people find attractive about this place.

The largest ethnographic park in Russia! The trip to ETNOMIR is a bright and incredibly informative holiday in the Moscow region all year round. Unique excursions, master classes, animation and folklore programs, authentic country hotels, many cafes of national cuisine, festivals and holidays. More parking space. Presentation of different countries. I worked with the famous singer of Russia Natalia on a music video song ‘у меня есть только ты’ at ethnomir

This is my first time in Etnomir. So, definitely it is a great place. There are many architecture styles that was merged into Mir Street and hotels. I was extremely impressed by facade of the Nepal hotel. In spite of this feeling with family we were staying in the hotel of East Asia and room was clean and sweet. And as we were lucky with the weather we could visit every place in this huge area and just relax in place that out of carbon dioxide and full of the fresh air in harmony with nature
The New Jerusalem Monastery is a grand monastic complex built in the 1600s, located in the countryside and boasting a cathedral and underground church. Nikon, patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, founded this impressive monastery in 1652. Visitors can explore all areas of the compound for free, with highlights including walking along battlements that encircle much of the complex and admiring exquisite architecture and intricate paintings throughout. The cafeteria also offers affordable home-style cooking.
A magnificent replica of the Resurrection Temple in Jerusalem! An astonishing work of art, and a place that every Orthodox should visit when in Moscow! The monastery is huge, and also has a nice "Trapeza" (small restaurant) where you can have a meal. There's also a free parking just outside the main gate.

The New Jerusalem Monastery is a stunning architectural masterpiece located in Istra, Russia. The monastery is known for its beautiful frescoes, intricate carvings, and rich history. It was built by Patriarch Nikon in the 17th century as a replica of the Holy Land's Jerusalem. The monastery's stunning architecture and peaceful surroundings make it an ideal place for spiritual contemplation and reflection.
Visitors to the monastery can explore the various buildings, including the Cathedral of the Resurrection, the Church of the Holy Gates, and the Refectory. The Cathedral of the Resurrection is particularly impressive, with its ornate domes and exquisite frescoes. The Church of the Holy Gates is also worth a visit, with its beautiful bell tower and intricate carvings.
In addition to its stunning architecture, the New Jerusalem Monastery is also home to a museum that showcases the monastery's rich history and cultural significance. The museum has an impressive collection of religious artifacts, including icons, manuscripts, and vestments.
Overall, the New Jerusalem Monastery is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, culture, and spirituality. The monastery's stunning architecture and peaceful surroundings make it an ideal place for reflection and contemplation.

Most excellent experience. Awesome atmosophere in and out of the monastery. Most things are all open for visiting for gratis. Walking on the batllements which takes one almost right around the whole compound is must see. The cafeteria is great: quite cheap and offers the home food type of cooking. Excellent.

The newly restored historical monastery is so beautiful, especially taking into account how it looked before the restoration works rook place. It is also not overcrowded and it feels really good to spend some time on the premises. Don't forget to get empty bottles with you as the water you can get in the cathedral from the underground source is simply delicious.

The Savvino-Storozhevskiy Monastery is a significant Russian Orthodox religious site boasting an impressive architectural design and featuring 15th-century altar frescoes. It is a popular destination for tourists visiting Moscow, but it's best to avoid weekends and church holidays to avoid large crowds. Visitors may have the opportunity to view the stunning panorama from the bell tower with permission from a monk.
Great place to spend at least half a day while visiting Zvenigorod. Beautiful scenery, history linked monastery, plenty of exhibition places, nice stylish canteen.
Strongly recommend.

On one of the most famous and largest streets in Moscow, the courtyard of the Zvenigorod Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery is hidden, built in a pseudo-Russian style with elements of modern and baroque.
Previously, when walking in the center, it was hard not to notice one of the main decorations of Tverskaya, but in 1939 it was hidden from view. An interesting story is connected with its movement: the building, which weighed 24 tons, was moved deeper into the quarter at night - rails were laid under the foundation and smoothly transported to a new location. At the same time, the residents were not relocated and were not even specially warned. It is said that many of them discovered the change only in the morning, looking out of the window, and must have been very surprised at the unexpected move.

A must-see place for any tourist traveling around Moscow. But do not come here on weekends and church holidays, for crowds will ruin one's experience. If you are lucky, a monk may allow you to come up the bell tower. The view is magnificent. The sound is deafening.

The place is well-suited both for pilgrims and for tourists. They even have free wi-fi, special app for visitors available for iOS and Android as well, and the food is dietetical and tasty at the same time.
As for the architecture, there are several buildings highly valuable from the historical and the aesthetical point of view.
To cut the story short, just come and see it for yourself.

Monastery is ok, but you will find inside the walls a pearl, a bakery shop and a café with amazing pastry, cakes, chocolates, 100% handmade and fresh. Very tasty everything. Queue of ppl to buy bread, etc... But it's worth to do it. It's cheap. Shop and café (you can eat everything you can buy in shop here) has amazing decoration, medieval style. Café is located upstairs, just in one of the towers and a door brings you directly to the walls... really beautiful place to eat/drink/rest.
Vorob'i Birds Park is a stunning park that boasts a spacious aviary filled with exotic birds and various other animals. In addition to being home to an array of bird species, the park offers cafes, carriage rides, and more. Great selection of animals (we've been there only in the half on the park, left hand side, didn't have time for "tropical" part). That has exceeded my expectations, nice and spacious place, well arranged. I must say we've been there on the 1st of January so it was almost empty, no visitors. At least that (I mean anything like that working on the the 1st of January) can tell one a lot ;) Nice place to take children but also quite interesting park for adults.
