(Translated by Google) Fiorenzuola castle.
Contrary to what I expected the castle is not a castle. Generally you expect to find a structure where you can see something that tells a little about the history of the place or some exhibition. None of this unfortunately. It is often compared to the castle of Gradara (with which it has nothing in common), but in reality there are only the walls and three towers of the castle .... end of the castle, there is nothing else.
Speaking of the village instead, I can say that it does not offer much apart from the arch where some verses of Dante are shown, the clock tower, a tiny museum of natural history and the surrounding walls. The village is really very small.
The position of Fiorenzuola however allows you to observe nice landscape views.
In short, I was quite disappointed in this village, it will be because I have seen better ones.
However, this ancient village also ended up in my memories and in my photo album
Until next time, bye

A nice secluded beach which was not overcrowded and has a protected sea which was warm and clear to swim in. A real work out to get there down a steep roadway, not for the fait hearted as will my medium fitness, it had a tiring effect on my legs!
There are shops at the top in the town but no facilities on the beach so make sure you go prepared. A visit is highly recommended as it's a proper off the beaten track sort of beach.

30 minutes walk from parking place. It’s a magical beach. Few people, warm sea, clean beach. If you have a comfortable sandals, you must try this beach. There is a small shop here, you can buy cold drink, coffee, and some food.

It is a hard and long way to get down the road to the beach. The beach itself is not very clean. There is no trash but a lot of wood and stones. The way back up to the village is rly hard!
The Beach of the Two Sisters is a stunning public beach located in Italy. It features two large rock formations and is covered in white pebbles. Visitors can enjoy swimming and sunbathing, but should be aware of the dangerous path and passage. Despite being one of the most beautiful places on the Adriatic coast, it can get quite crowded during peak season.
I went on June, 4th 2023.
The water is cold, there is a lot of sun, so I went inside super fast. It was a little bit windy.
The beach is clean.
I left early because began raining around 2:30. All these days the rain has been like that.
I rented 2 chairs and an umbrella for 25 euros.
There is a restaurant on the beach, it was full.
The beach is big and on one side is the mountain le due sorelle “two sisters”.
The parking lot! Important this… Drive all the way inside close the mountain and park there. It’s the same price than the one at the beginning of the park. I didn’t know this and you have to walk more from the first parking.

It was an excellent boat ride with panoramic views a must if you come to Ancona yet the beach is a good beach but not great with so many people 😢
Rene Apack — Google review
We made last minute reservation to see how a turtles are released into the sea. Although we expected a lot more from this trip, for example at least more furthers, but there was only one. The experience was still amazing. The boat ride was fun and beautiful. A lot less people than usually due to COVID 19. The boat staff was helpful when getting off. When we arrived at the Beach of the two sisters, we had to climb down the ladder. This was fun! 😁👌Although this trip was planed to leave at 5pm, therefore we got no sun as we arrived on the beach. It was quite dark. The sun there leaves around 3pm. You can also plan to go to this beach in the morning and stay until afternoon in order to just enjoy a private view and swim.

Most beautiful place on the Adriatic coast on Italy ( in this region). Nice water, nice beach, perfect restraint. The only problem is it’s very difficult to park the car after 9 am from the end of may till middle of September!!! There is a public parking at the top, from where to walk about 20 minutes down.

A wonderful beach, though rather crowded. A pleasant boat trip from Numana, I found the 25-euro ticket a bit too high, but I guess a more popular fare would get the beach even more crowded.
Massimo Soranzio — Google review
Beautifull beach that is very quiet.. That is untill the boatload of tourists gets dumped on the beach. The tour boats ruined the place. Tip: Get there early before the boatload of tourists. When the boatload of tourists arrives just leave in the direction of Portonovo. There are a few beaches that are free off the boatload of tourists.

1000 nuanches of blue. What a place with a wow view. It worth the trip by boat from Numana turistic harbor. It seems to be to Maldives but with a sand of little stones instead of sand.
Spiaggia Sassi Neri, also known as Black Rock Beach, is a picturesque and rustic destination located near the Conero mountain. The long stretch of coastline features clear blue waters and dark rocks that create a striking contrast with the sea. This natural beach is ideal for snorkeling due to its deep waters and is perfect for those seeking relaxation away from the crowds.
This place is WOW!!! The rocks on the shore as you walk further down the beach aren’t slippery. Just the waves will get you a bit, other than that amazing view on the other side of the big pink rock. If you want to experience something unique and pink this is the place!

Really beautiful beach!!! The water is clear and there is a lot to see underwater for people interested in a bit of snorkeling. Clean and not overly full of people. From the city of Sirolo there is maybe 20 minutes on foot and a bit more to return, but it can be done by everyone (I had with me a friend that is the opposite of athletic and he was able to do it...grumbling but he did)

'Sassi neri" is a renowned beach close to the Conero mountain and it's, for sure, a very nice place where to spend a day with a family or friends.
But let's start from the beginning.
After leaving your car in a parking you can choose between taking a bus or two different trails.
First dirt road is not for children and not for unhealthy people. Don't take it also if you have only flip_flops because it's steep and dangerous.
Second one is a normal road but steeper than the other. (If you take this solution you can also ask for bus service that cost 2 euro for the round trip)
After 30 min (5 with bus) you will reach "sassi neri beach" a pleasant place sourrounded by green and lush vegetation with clear blue sea water. (for sure better than Emilia Romagna coast which is usually green).
Down there, there is also a restaurant and few bars where to take a drink or a coffee.
To conclude, Sassi Neri e San Michele is a very nice place but if you have altready been in Sardinia or Puglia or Sicily don't expect to find places like that.
Cheers

Since its completion in the 16th century and possibly even earlier, the "Holy House" of Loreto has been numbered among the most famous shrines of Italy. Loreto is a small town a few miles south of Ancona and near the sea. Its most conspicuous building is the basilica. This dome-crowned edifice, which with its various annexes took more than a century to build and adorn under the direction of many famous artists, serves merely as the setting of a tiny cottage standing within the basilica itself. Though the rough walls of the little building have been raised in height and are cased externally in richly sculptured marble, the interior measures only thirty-one feet by thirteen. An altar stands at one end beneath a statue, blackened with age, of the Virgin Mother and her Divine Infant. As the inscription, Hic Verbum caro factum est, reminds us, this building is honoured by Christians as the veritable cottage at Nazareth in which the Holy Family lived, and the Word became incarnate. Another inscription of the sixteenth century which decorates the eastern facade of the basilica sets forth at greater length the tradition which makes this shrine so famous.
Casa Leopardi, the birthplace of poet Giacomo Leopardi, is a renowned museum in Recanati. This historic attraction boasts a vast library and captivating exhibits that offer insights into the life and works of the esteemed poet. Guided tours allow visitors to explore the house where Leopardi spent his childhood, including his beloved library, which houses an impressive collection of twenty thousand books that played a crucial role in his studies.
The whole area is breath taking, I am not and will never be a fan of Leopardi (probably due to secondary school studies!), but by visiting the premises help me to understand the character, I am sure he had a tough life, despite being a wealthy guy, hence the production of his poetry. Visiting his house and the surrounding places really helps to understand him and if possible to love his work, personally I have re evaluate it completely! Also I must say that the passion of the guides when explaining and the help and support they provide is astonishing
Giulio D'Alberto — Google review
Of all the things suggested in the ticket the house itself with the library is the only one worth visiting. However you cannot take pictures there which is a bit of a shame nowadays

Palazzo Buonaccorsi is a magnificent venue that boasts lavish frescoes from the 1700s depicting scenes from the Aeneid. The palace has a rich history and showcases both historic carriages and contemporary art. It is an ideal location for various events such as receptions or company parties with ample space for seating and walking around. The balcony offers a breathtaking view, while even leaving room for dancing among the tables.
This is a beautiful place to host any event such as a reception or a company party. The table setup was wonderful, there was plenty of space for people to sit comfortably and walk around, and the view on the balcony was breathtaking. Amazing place in the center of Macerata.
I visited during Lotto exhibition and the palace is rich of art.

Interesting but seriously overpriced museum: the €10 entry fee is rather ridiculous for the nice but unassuming pieces on show, extravagantly highlighted by rather overdone video clips. Sad to see how art is becoming commercialized past-time. That said, the visit may still be worth it, if only for the splendid Aeneid-gallery - or if you're very much into antique carriages.

Sferisterio di Macerata is an enchanting open-air opera house that can accommodate up to 3,000 spectators. It is known for its grandeur and impressive Italian Baroque architecture. The arena, a 200-year-old building in the neo-classical style, resembles a Roman arena and hosts a popular opera festival each summer. Its acoustics are highly reputed, making it a fantastic venue for shows.
Amazing place for shows. Great acoustics, comfortable seats and beautiful lighting and decor.

Visited the building (no concert). For six euros you just get to see the inside of the arena, and a flashy edited movie which doesn't provide any in-depth info and history. In my opinion a big rip-off, this should be free like visiting a park. It's probably much nicer when there's a concert. Would've been nice to get on the roof for panoramic view.

We didn't experience an opera or concert. We visited it outside the opera season, so you can only see the interior. We expected to see more: backstage, balcony, loges, ....

Since the changes in the management the sferisterio is on the way up. Last sezon was excellent. This season promise the same. Undoubtedly one of the world best open air opera festival. Only problem is the shape of the auditorium. You just have to bay central tickets, otherwise you spoil the pleasure.

Amazing experience. My tour guide, Michele, was very knowledgeable and painted a vivid picture of the discovery of the caves. His English is great and learning about the formations was really interesting. It was a magical experience and this has been my favorite experience in Italy, maybe even my life. These caves should be one of the natural wonders in the world. Also, the surrounding town is beautiful, you can take a nice stroll alongside the river. Try the dishes with truffles in them! Also, vincisgrassi (the regional version of lasagne) is delicious. The locals are so friendly, but some of them don’t speak English so it’s a great opportunity to practice your Italian! My heart is still in the mountains there.
P.S. if you try to get to the Valadier Temple (Tempio del Valadier) the google map location for it is not accurate for the start of the trailhead. You will have to go about double the distance from the caves than what it says (the location of the cave on the side of the mountain). It will be on the right side of the road and about 800 meters from the caves. It is walkable, but a rather long walk on the side of the road to get to the starting point. But, it is worth it!

Even though it was quite busy, the visit was well organised. What we did not like is when we bought the tickets, it was advertised that you could follow an audio tour using the app instead of the guided tour.
We liked this option as we were with young children a d their attention span for a guided tour is limited, especially in a language they don't speak.
When we got up to the entrance of the caves; they said this was not possible and we had to wait an hour (!) for the English guided tour.
The guide took a tremendous amount of time to explain each crack and sediment difference so we decided to walk on and tagged along to two Italian guided groups before we were 'caught' and told to stay with the guide.
Our round took 1,5 hours; I did not dare to ask how long the normal tour would have taken.
The cave itself is nice, well lit and the path is fenced and very accessible even for young children. There is only one route to follow so it's not possible to get lost.
Otto Ramaker — Google review
The caves themselves are amazing! The company running them are running a slick operation and probably making a decent profit and in some cases have put profit before customers and this is why I've only given 3 stars... The buses that take you to the caves from the car park are mainly standing space with very few seats, they packed them full and it's a hot and windy road. The most annoying part however is that photos are forbidden, even with no flash. The only reason for this is so they can sell tickets to the photo tour where you're allowed to take photos. There's no pricing for the photo tour online however so I can only assume it's extortionate.

Amazing morning at the museum. We didn't book ahead and we probably should have. School groups were touring on the same day so when the guide finished with them, he offered to take us around. His English was limited but we managed and he was so kind to take us around. He showed my 6-year-old how to make paper and let him try it out. Highly recommended activity for families. I suggest to plan better than we did and go when there is an English tour so it's even better. There's a great playground and park across the street where you can do a picnic after.

I went to the Museo della Carta e della Filigrana for a class field trip and was able to learn a lot! At the museum there is a demonstration of the paper production. It is very hands on and you can make your own sheet of paper with the help of the guide. We were able to go to different rooms and look at different machinery. We also learned about money and how different currencies can be easier or harder to forge due to the technique used to make it. Overall it was an incredible experience and I would recommend to anyone!

I went here for a class field trip! It was really cool to see because they take you through their history, you can also actually make paper if you take a tour. It is old fashioned but they show you how they keep up their modern touch. The town surrounding the factory is also very nice. It is totally worth seeing and making a stop at their factory with their excellent guides!
Wynne Snowden — Google review
I went to the Museo della Carta e della Filigrana on a class field trip about a week ago. When we first walked into the museum, you find yourself in a foyer area surrounded by works of watermarks on paper. The tour guide approached our group and she announced that she was ready to get started. Our tour guide, Francesca, was very informative throughout the whole experience and was more than willing to answer our questions to her full capabilities. The first room she took us in, she showed us the first machine that was able to turn washcloths into a flattened paper that people are able to write on. In that same room she brought a colleague and showed the group first hand how to make the paper. They were also nice enough to allow some of my classmates to experience this process with their own hands. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to anybody who is interested in this subject. I know I learned a lot about paper making that I never thought I would learn.
Evan Thompson — Google review
Museo della Carta e della Filligrana was a great museum. I visited the museum on a field trip with my university. Paper was born in Fabriano, the second most important Italian paper mill. At this museum you can watch the process of paper production and can have a hands on experience of producing their own sheet of paper! You are able to go through many different rooms containing old paper mills, old paper production, the vats and presses and machinery. To think about the ties it has to marketing and how it has evolved is very important with where marketing is today.
Emma Udchitz — Google review
My visit to the Paper and Watermark Museum in Fabriano was wonderful. I attended the museum with a group, and our guide, Francesca, was very interesting and wanted us to be hands on when explaining the process of paper making. We were shown not only how handmade paper has been made in the past, but the history behind how it has evolved and how they now produce it. Great establishment, I would recommend stopping if you are in the area.

A must to visit, really!
This museum is divided into 3 sections: pre-roman and roman archeology, medieval paintings and modern ceramics (i.e. locally manufactured ceramics with an ancient particular process).
Also the castle has many singularities, like the notable and fortunately saved medieval image of the Trinity.
It was very interesting to go through these sections and discover how many uniquenesses are saved into this little, beautiful and hidden castle...
Paolo Zucca — Google review
You can enter this fortress using the multiple ticket for all the local tourist sites, costing only 6 euros and good value at that.
The Rocca Flea is a stunning complex of buildings, filled with an extensive range of art works and historically interesting exhibits. The tour takes you up and down a variety of stairs leading through the rooms and finishing at the starting point. The garden, although neglected, is also worth a look, as it offers some splendid viewpoints.
Judith Carole Kobrak — Google review
The castle was deserted on the day of our visit, and it took less than 20 minutes to wander the mix of stairs and (steep) rock steps to see the inside, which mainly exhibited religious iconography, old wooden doors, broken Roman pottery, and some large amphora dating from the 1920s. It's worth a brief visit to photograph the impressive exterior.

Unfortunately the internal spaces are quite empty and, as in our case, filled with "works" which in my opinion are out of place like those from Wall's world. If I were the person managing it, I would draw on the costume design of the Games of the Doors and fill the rooms with medieval scenes. In any case, just experiencing the fortress is worth the price of the ticket... recommended!!

I'll never travel to Assisi without this trip planner again
Eremo delle Carceri is a hermitage and oratory located on a forested hillside that dates back to the 13th century. It was an important place of worship for St Francis and other saints who lived there during that time, making it a holy ground filled with their spiritual essence. The peaceful environment of the woods provides an ideal setting for deep meditation and prayer, offering visitors a chance to connect with heaven.
If Francis has ever provoked something within you, this is a great place to come; to sit in a chapel service, to offer a short prayer in his cave and see how drastically different his method of following Jesus was from us today or walk and pray the many trails that intersect the area as you search for God. Highly recommend a full day—don’t just come and see—come, pray and search for what is behind what caught your attention about St. Francis in the first place.
Joshua — Google review
If you go to Assisi, a beautiful sanctuary to go to is Eremo Della Carceri. You can walk the 4 km up hill, with spectacular views which takes between 1-1 1/2 hrs. There is a welcome cafe at the entrance 🙂. The caves here are where St Francis and his brothers lived and prayed and the monastery was built around them. The grounds on the mountainside are so peaceful to walk and pray in. The monastery has some small passages and narrow stairways, but this adds to the atmosphere. The monks there are very welcoming. Beautiful.
Debbie Rumsby — Google review
If you visit Assisi, the Eremo delle Carceri is the perfect destination to follow the footsteps of St Francesco. If you decide to walk up, it is a 4,1km, approx. 1,5 hours steep uphill rocky hike, but it is well worth it, as the scenery is breathtaking. The hermitage is just pure serenity, the perfect place to connect to St Francesco. You can feel all that he stood for. It is a truly sacred place.

The Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi is a historic church and Christian pilgrimage site. It is situated on a hillside and features remarkable Gothic architecture adorned with medieval artwork. Originally built as an ancient hospital, the Palazzo del Monte Frumentario, it now houses two separate churches stacked on top of each other. UNESCO recognizes this architectural masterpiece as a World Heritage Site since 2000.
This cathedral is an awe-inspiring place! All the frescos by Giotto are masterpieces. The place is steeped into history, religion and significance. Well worth the daily trip from Rome.

A tranquil beautiful place. The building was quite overwhelming in its quiet magnificence. So disappointed not to be able to take photos but totally understood. The ceilings around the altar are so breathtaking in their beauty. The architecture and different painted scenes are complex and overwhelming in the skill seen. Some of the best I have witnessed in my journey to Rome and Assissi. Italy's architectural gifts are blessed. The crypt where the remains of St Francis lies is small well lit staffed and busy. There are pews to rest upon to enjoy moments of quiet reflection and candles can be purchased which are lit after one's departure. The views from outside the Basilica are far reaching and splendid. A place to hold in the heart.

The Basilica of St. Francis is marvellous and mystical place, bringing together a number of renaissance masterpieces and an extraordinary architectonic complexity. Cimabue, Giotto, the Lorenzetti brothers, Simone Martini – the greatest artists of the 14th Century, have painted frescoes on the walls and ceilings of this place. An obligatory destination for believers and non-believers alike, appreciating art and architecture.
M. Maietta — Google review
We enjoyed walking the streets of the little village of Assisi.
Assisi was the birthplace of St. Francis, who founded the Franciscan religious order in 1208.
Papal Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi was where St. Francis was born and died. The Basilica consists of an upper and lower sanctuary, where St. Francis is buried. The church is decorated with gorgeous geometric designs, frescoes painted in many colors, some with gold stars on a blue painted background.
The best is to hire a private guide, and I recommend this, to understand the historical significance of this holy site,
but I used my phone to get the right info.
Donato A. Mura — Google review
This was my second time to come here, and the experience is surreal. The serenity of the place, the architecture to marvel at, everything comes together. A place to go for the religious. Take time to visit and reflect on the life of Saint Francis.

A beautiful church with an interesting history. It was built in the 13th century on a hill where death sentences were carried out, known as Hell's Hill. Later the name was changed to Paradise Hill (after the canonization of St. Francis). Here is the tomb of St. Francis.
When visiting the basilica, it is worth strolling the streets of Assisi. However, only 8 km away (approx. 20 minutes by car) there is another Basilica with an atmospheric, tiny church inside, rebuilt by St. Francis.

Such a holy and magnificent cathedral to visit. This was one of the most emotional visits. You can feel the presence of the saints in this cathedral. You feel safe and peaceful.
It’s full of valuable objects from the ancient times.
I wished that we all could be like Saint Francesco!

A historic and amazing basilica, obviously a must visit while you are in Assisi. Must visit both the Inferiore (lower) and Superiore (upper) basilica areas. The Inferiore piazza is quite large as captured in these pictures. The basilica superiore is so peaceful and serene, true to the nickname of Assisi, the city of peace, no wonder a UNESCO a World heritage site. If you have only a day to spend here, would recommend visiting the basilica in the evening hours, as you can make a the most the most out of it with the spectacular views during the sunset hours from up top of the whole area and the valley.

Beautiful sanctuary, it is really amazing to walk around and see how beautiful it is inside. It has high and lower levels. In the lower level, you can find the tomb of Saint Francis de Assisi. It was the most spiritual place I visited recently. There is also a shop downstairs you need to go straightforward up to the end of the high level then take the stairs to go down. To find the Basilica you have to walk 15 minutes but there are a lot of shops around and restaurants, a good tip is to go early in the morning to enjoy the place and walk through the medieval small roads. You can find parking inside the town or outside in the public parking. Really amazing place!

The Basilica of Santa Chiara is a 13th-century church located in Assisi Square. It is dedicated to Saint Clare, the founder of the Order of Poor Ladies, and contains the tomb of St. Clare. The church is very beautiful and well worth seeing.
Santa Chiara...I woke up every day seeing sun slowly rising above Santa Chiara. Yes, serene.
And that to have luxury to pray every morning before St. Francis cross there, priceless.
You can feel that it all started here.

The striped facade in side is simple but very beautiful, the side buttresses give it might, like the faith of all pilgrims. The Basilica is dedicated to the founder of the Poor Clares and her crypt is located below which is accessible to the public for FREE. Strictly no photo.

Situated in one of many beautiful locations in Assisi. Here you can learn a bit about the life of Santa Chiara, and see the "Croce di San Damiano" the crucifix San Francesco prayed in front of when he got called to serve the church.

A truly beautiful place to be. Occasionally it will get a bit noisy, but it calms down soon enough. The tomb of St. Clare shows a beautiful testimony of her life and is an excellent dedication to her, as are the relics which can be seen just after you visit the tomb area. There is the main altar area, the side chapel (which houses the tabernacle and is especially dedicated to silent prayer), and the altar above which the original cross of San Damiano hangs. Each one provides a different atmosphere in which to pray or to simply be present, and all are wonderful. There is nothing like gazing upon the original Sam Damiano cross. Definitely do not miss this church in Assisi.

We skipped our group lunch to walk to the Basilica. It was amazing and so worth it. The church is so beautiful. This is a MUST see!
San Damiano church in Assisi is a 12th-century rustic-style building with cloisters. Although not very artistic, it has gained popularity due to its historical significance and association with Saint Francis and Santa Chiara. It is often referred to as a small hut of linens located on the corner of a house. Unlike other holy places in Assisi, San Damiano is not located in the center of the town which makes it less crowded.
Not in the center of Assisi, hence not crowded as other Holy places in the town. However, the tiny church is amazing as it also has a significant role in Christianism and Italian literature. St. Francis wrote the Canticle of the Sun here, known as the earliest known vernacular literature written in the Umbrian dialect of Italian.

Oh my word. San Damiano is beautiful. It is the place, where in 1205 St Francis heard God speak through a beautiful cross. It has not changed much since that time apart from some repairs and improvements. It is a place of prayer and quiet reflection. It is definitely worth a visit to look round and pray.

While it no longer houses the original San Daminao cross (that one hangs in the Basilica of St. Clare), definitely still check out this church. It provides an excellent glimpse into the lives of the Poor Clare's, and is home to several notable places in St. Clare's life (including the place where she died). It is also, simply, a beautiful church which has stood the test of time. And the short walk to get there is amazing!

The Museo della Porziuncola is a beautiful and spiritual place that holds great significance in the history of St. Francis. Located in Italy, it was on this site where he founded the Franciscan Order and also passed away. The museum commemorates his life and teachings through various exhibits and artifacts, making it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in learning about St. Francis or seeking spiritual enlightenment.
We made a pilgrimage from St. Clare, to St. DaMiano, to the Museo della Porziucola. We did not realize that we were retracing the last journey of St Francis before his death. He had gone to see Clare at DaMiano the day before his passing. What a beautiful and spiritual day. I highly recommend doing it.

The Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli is a 16th-century church where St. Francis founded his order in Umbria. The church boasts a history and art museum, and is located outside of Assisi, making it ideal to have a car if one wants to visit. Mass is held on Sunday mornings, but visitors can still explore the grounds during this time.
This Francis-linked site is a bit off the main trek, but should be considered essential and is actually rather easy to reach, particularly if coming in by train. It is an easy 1/2 mile stroll from the station.
Once there you will not only find the stone chapel that Francis and followers rebuilt at the start of his ministry, but a chapel marks the place of his death.
The complex is vast with interesting displays of creches, some focus on telling the story of Clair, and a large bookshop.
Connection between the train station and Assisi is available by a city bus ride - buy inexpensive tickets from the helpful shop at the station - that transports one near the top of town where gravity can lead you through the town.

A church within a church. The little church marked the place where St Francis of Assisi died, a church, the size of a hut was built to mark the place and some years later, a much bigger church, a Basilica, was built encapsulated the little church. The remains of St Francis of Assisi is in the tomb up the hill. The monks led the praying of the rosary in the little church, I witnessed much piety and reverence from the community. Thanks be to God.

A very nice basilica in Assisi, probably often overlooked because people flock up to the hilltop to the town and the more famous basilica and other attractions. This is on the other side of the main train station of Assisi. It’s actually walkable distance from the train station. There is a nice museum, rose garden and gift shop in side as well. This is a very special place because inside this enormous church is the tiny church worshipped in by St Francis of Assisi. At the moment the outer church has scaffolding around much of the dome and inside as many repairs are taking place. However, you can still see the impressive art work and architecture. The small church is very special and still has the frescos inside. You can walk along a special bricked pathway from Assisi.

The basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli is a Roman Catholic rite church located in Assisi . It has the dignity of a papal basilica and inside there is the Porziuncola , the chapel where Francis of Assisi gathered in prayer , and for this reason the center of Franciscan spirituality. On top of the facade of the temple stands the statue of the Madonnain gilded bronze modeled by Colasanti and cast by the Ferdinando Marinelli Artistic Foundry of Florence .

It's a beautiful basilica but it's going through a renovation/fixing era. Therefore you're not going to be able to fully enjoy the church with its paintings. However, you will have a special moment for prayer there and one relic from San Francisco. You'll also be able to witness the rose garden of San Francisco and the little cell in which he used to sleep about other little treasures like the gift shop.

Terrible value for money and stingy owners. Would recommend visiting any other spa in the area (ie Borgobrufa).
Issues we had during the stay:
- we booked the spa all day (10am - 7pm) and we’re only allowed 1 towel. They would not exchange the towel and I had to sit in a wet, cold towel through lunch and the spa day. This caused me to get SICK! I have had a cold for 2 days now).
- sauna was shut off at 5pm, which seems like they were trying to get us to leave early even though we booked the spa until 7pm
- owners were not accommodating, friendly or helpful at all
- pools were not warm enough (definitely not 29 degrees). This includes the big gorgeous outdoor pool and inside pool.
Would maybe recommend going during the summer for max 5 hours if you want to enjoy the views. They also had super cute cats (2 that were friendly) which made my trip a 2 star and not a 1 star. Overall would actively tell people visiting Umbria to avoid and go elsewhere

You can pay to access the external pool where the water is fairly warm, I swam there when outside was 8 degrees. In this pool you can collect sulfuric mud deposited on stones at the edge of the pool and apply to the skin.
In alternative you can pay to access also the spa, with this you can access sauna, steam room, relaxing bath, and different type of hydromassage.

One of the most amazing days we had spent on our month in Umbria. We had a driver from Spello to take us to Pettino and I'm glad we did -- it is quite the incredible ride up into the mountains. We were greeted with an espresso upon arrival at the farm, where we met the family. Loading into 4WD vehicle we followed Luca and his truffle hunting dogs up the mountainside, where they were let loose to hunt for the elusive truffles. The day was picture perfect. The views over the mountain side were breathtaking. Those industrious pups found truffles! We were then taken over the field where the sheet are herded, where Luca made us eggs with the truffles on a gas stove on his tailgate and all paired with Prosecco. Back at the farm we were treated to home cured meats, olive oil and wine, all while Francesca exhibited her pasta making skills. Lunch was in a lovely profession kitchen, consisting of the pasta and truffles (of course), followed by grilled fennel, pork and lamb. All accompanied by their wine! We finished up the meal with a tiramisu. It is a beautiful place and it will forever be in our memories.

We actually arranged our trip to Italy around the availability of the truffle hunt here, but later got a bit nervous that this was a bit too expensive. We went anyway and were totally blown away by the family that let us share a bit of their lives.
The day starts with coffee and a chance to get to know each other. Then off in the trucks to the higher woods and fields with the dogs. The dogs (well, maybe half of them) walk with us to to the various oak trees and find truffles under the soil. When they deliver these to the handlers, they are rewarded with a biscuit. This was fascinating to watch. (The other half of the dogs just did dog things).
After we collected enough, we drove to a high plain where we cooked and ate eggs with the truffles and drank a bit too much prosecco. The local sheep (and wolf hounds) joined us for a fun time in the sun.
Back in the little village, we were served unlimited wine, bruchette, and sliced meats. They made pasta from scratch, and then we were served an amazing late lunch with wild boar.
The conversations were real, we made good friends, and would definitely recommend this as a highlight of any trip. (We took too many pics - sorry!).

A shame that this small, beautiful park is privatized and locked behind paid entrance. I only once visited the private park, but found it quite limited and the paid entrance didn't really make sense (although it's only 3€).
The emerald waters of the Clitunno are really a wonder. This was once a large river: in roman times boats were able to navigate it, and its source was of strategic and religious importance. Seismic movements drastically changed the river which then became the stream of today. Particular minerals make the water mesmerizingly colourful.
Good news! You can enjoy the scenery without entering the paid area. There is a nice free area that is of great beauty as well. Just keep on walking on the main road on the entrance side until you see a restaurant, and enter the natural area there. By the look of it, the park and restaurant area were clearly part of the same park not too long ago, but they've been brutally split with wire fences for monetary reasons.
Also consider that there is a very nice free walking path, which runs on the bank of the Clitunno stream, between the enclosed park and the countryside. You can find it after the end of the restaurant free area path: just keep walking towards the countryside, then you will find a horizontal car barrier, get around it and enjoy the walk.
