Amazing view and great place to walk. I saw people having picnic, enjoying the sun. Make sure you have water with you especially if you go with kids. There are 2 restaurants so you can charge your batteries before you start climbing. Enjoy!

This is the best experiences I had in Germany. It is wonderful with nature and location of the forte at the top of the mountain. You have to take a long way with steps upwards to arrive at the top. It is simply worth it. Be careful of slippery steps of snowing

Beautifull.
We went to see the free to enter Monument outside, parking was next to it.
You can make some water dance for a slight € wich was a fun little activity to watch.
Everything looks beautifull and i can't wait to see it once the waterfountains are put back on and are in season again.
Really recommend going here, but please watch out with fear of hights and its not save when you are not a stable walker!

Nice place to visit. There are a lot of stairs but we were with a child on a buggy. At first we thought we couldn't go down, but on the right side of the movement there is a path to go down, making it accessible for people who can't walk the stairs, but can go down and up the hill.

I had an amazing hike to the top from the city center. I had the chance to wander around the castles on the way and visit the museum before I head up to the statue. It was around 2.5 hours of walking and it was stunning. Definitely worth a visit.

Just like the previous reviews I’m also recommending this place to everyone who is interest in nature and architecture. It isn’t that easy to go down all the stairs and afterwards all the way down to the castle BUT I‘M TELLING YOU IT‘S WORTH EVERY STEP. Going up you can take a Bus and then start from the top and walk down until you reach the beautiful castle. If you want you can even walk through a foresty park and see a tiny waterfall as well. As a bonus there is one of the cutest tram stations I have seen in Germany so far.

A good experience.
Specially the view of the Kassel from top of the monument is breathtaking..
The path is a long one and includes a lot of stairs so you will have to put some effort into climbing. My 5 stars is because I really enjoyed the climb.
It was really crowded on Sunday. The water show happens late, but luckily it happened on the day I visited i.e Sunday.

Paid parking and a crazy amount of steps just to see really various ídols. Wondering if the closed off caverns attracted human sacrifices by certain spiritual groups. Pretty good views though.

Excellent walk in the woods and great view from the top. You can take the bus upwards and walk down with a view. There is some Cafes on the road as well so you can take a break half say down.

Must visit heritage site. You can park and take the shuttle to go up. Your parking ticket includes shuttle to go up and return. But if you wish to walk, you can walk through the park and go up the stairs to reach the Hercules monument and walk down. Or you can do one way by walk and one way by shuttle. Walking down the stairs and down hill is easy and so we opted to take the shuttle to go up and walked our way down to the parking. Check out the timing of water flow and make sure you are at the edge of the park where the water falls after flowing down the steps from the Hercules monument.

All of a sudden trip to this marvelous place in Kassel. The view from the top and the perpendicular Wilhelmshöher Allee is just insane. Visit during the sunset would be recommended. Beware it takes 500+ steps to reach the top of the monument.

A very nice experience. An interesting monument that emerges from the culture in Germany. When asked, many people from Germany did not even know that there was a park like this in Germany. I recommend the tour, but it takes a little more time, because there are also parks and waterfalls that you can visit. It also has a castle. Bring some water and comfortable shoes.

There are great trails for walking and cycling. It is also a very suitable place for a family picnic. The building in the park also looks incredibly majestic. It has a great atmosphere and view. There is also the opportunity to see the city of Kassel from above.
Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe is a vast and impressive art museum displaying Flemish & German Old Masters, with a collection of antique weaponry and ancient ceramics. The park itself offers an opportunity for a leisurely walk amidst breathtaking surroundings, perfect for spending quality time with family. Although some parts are currently under renovation, the sheer size of the park ensures that there are still plenty of benches to relax on and opportunities to capture memorable photographs.
Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe is beautiful and it's something that should be on everyone's list. The place is huge so it's advisable to go early so you can spend time walking around the park. Some parts are under renovation as of now but not a show stopper.

What a beautiful park! You can find lots of tracks to follow at your own pace, beautiful buildings such as “old fashioned” castle and the Hercules statue.

Beautiful park in Kassel with a lot of things to see. The park combines nature and historical architecture to give you a good time when visiting. The well maintained paths make walking in the park very easy and just enjoyable with a lot of things to see while walking around it… the views you get just makes it even more worth it to visit. A must visit place when visiting Kassel!

Under construction right now so save your visit for awhile, absolutely nothing to see inside right now, all blocked off. Plenty of places to walk around the castle with lovely benches everywhere.

Stunning garden with incredible water features, aqueduct, ruins, lovely bridges and more. It's 1,5km hike up the hill but well worth it. There is no entry fee to the garden but there is a palace that functions as a museum and a small castle that you have pay an entry fee. There is a Cafe near the museum and on top of the hill. The one on top was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays when we visited.

This is a very large park, basically a half to full day event with a wonderful castle, this amazing waterfall and Hercules construction, and more. Not a huge amount of parking so when the water falls are operating it may get very busy. All free, except the parking :)
Chris K — Google review
Lots of ups and downs.
There are several signs telling stories of the historical events of the park, but all of them are worn out to the point where you can't read anything - a real shame such a historical significant place!
No public parking places - you have to park at a nearby hotel.

The view from the top is splendid which made the trail so worth it (there's a bus though that can take you all the way to the top, or can take the car to avoid walking).

In the dense dawn, one runs into a wall of fog, and thus begins the metamorphosis on a blank, white paper. Alone on the running journey, the faithful companion, the heron, is suddenly discovered, and the mountain park unfolds into an endless symphony of solitude. Amidst rows of trees forming a Japanese calligraphy, no hiker is encountered; one is closest to oneself. The cold air cuts while breathing, blowing thought bubbles into the atmosphere. A feeling of happiness permeates as you ascend higher, past old companions, massive trees from distant worlds, summoning colonial thoughts that seamlessly fit into the visual axis. Here, I claim this park as my inner refuge, a territorial sense of home, viewed from the outside.
The path leads higher, ever higher, past the Devil's Bridge, which changes its aura daily in capricious moods. In this ascent, in this transformation, a metaphor for the pursuit of higher values is revealed. Every path is familiar until finally reaching the summit, the Hercules. Here, encountering early morning tourists whose smoke seems to taint the pure spirit - here, no poison is needed. A swift return, circling the Löwenburg like a perfect drawing in a Disney landscape. Even Michael Jackson would have liked to erect fences here, but it remains a public place, a park that I miss painfully wherever I am in the world. Here, one feels alive, the heart beats faster, faster.

A great park and quite naturally a must-see when visiting Kassel. Of course, summer is the best time for a visit as the water features will be active, but even in winter (when I visited), it's a five star experience if you visit the five stations of the water features and the other highlights. Despite it's erratic layout, the park is easy to navigate thanks to many maps scattered throughout.
One point of consideration is that after snowfall has melted and frozen again (which was the case during my visit), various walkways and staircases can become very slippery, to the point of becoming dangerous to walk upon.

What a lovely place to visit. Nice walks in greenery. Fresh air, sound of flowing water, birds. You can easily spend your whole day here. 6€ ticket is worth it. You can visit the top of Hercules statue, museum, Löwenberg all in the same ticket. The view from top was awesome.

Running. Definitely a great location for your run, especially if you are into hill training. Lots of places to see along the way in case I need to catch your breath. Paved and unpaved roads, plenty of shade in the summer and during winter, the trees protect you from the wind.
The view is amazing. It's a good walk, so bring water with you. It was raining and foggy, but it was still worth it. They have some light shows at night, so I recommend going later.

The museum is good enough to enjoy the stories of the Greeks. However, it has no ancient monuments as it contains prototypes for statues, vases and temples. However, It contains some nice art work and it is the only place in Kassel to buy souvenirs as postcards and magnets 🧲 😀. A bit expensive souvenirs, but it's okay..

A beautiful art gallery housed in a new classical palace in a landscape park.
The gallery holds a fine collection of art including works of Rembrandt and Rubens.
The landscape park is named Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe (which means mountain-park) and it has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 2013

apart from a handful of gems, second rate works from second rate artists. reflections, bad and sometimes flickering lighting deserve the exposed pieces. one entire floor closed (without explanation, possibly because of missing enough employees) and many works removed from the walls with hooks left falling down. unpleasant and amateur staff seal the visit. how sad.
Very cheap. To go up costs 2.50€. To go up and down costs 4,00€ per person. It’s super fun. The view is amazing. Especially during the summer time the view is amazing with lots of nature around.
Highly recommended. The alternative is to walk up, but if you aren’t a sports guy than that will be quiet intense to do so.

Lovely short ride to a neat mountaintop restaurant. Unfortunately the staff on duty wouldn't speak English, so a girl had her leg pinced and the operator didn't realize it, didn't understand the girl talking and gesticulating and didn't help. Hope the poor girl figured on her own how to unstick her leg. Else the short ride might have been unbearably long for her.

Very nice experience, we took the Bergbahn and reached the ride to the top, the cable car ride was like 3 to 5 minutes.
On top you can enjoy the snow and being on top with nice scenary and of course there's a restaurant where you can have hot drinks and food.
We had a lovely lunch. The staff was so friendly.

I had a lot of expectations for this, but I wasn't very happy of the experience overall, because the path is very short and it's expensive to get on top. You can literally have a walk in the forest for free and get the same views. During the winter, the cable car is closed which is the main highlight of this place I would say. In my opinion it is not worth it to visit this place just for the tree path

The Brunswick Cathedral, a renowned 12th-century church adorned with frescoes and featuring a crypt for Guelph rulers like Henry the Lion, is a significant landmark in Braunschweig that must be visited by tourists. While it is free to visit during specific hours, its exterior beauty does not necessarily translate to an equally interesting interior. Nonetheless, this cathedral still remains as a central hub of activities and life in the city.
This is a marvelous place to visit. Beautiful frescoes! It was great to see the tomb of Henry the Lion and Mathilde as well as the wonderfully atmospheric crypt.
David McLoughlin — Google review
Braunschweig Cathedral is a truly extraordinary place that left a profound impact on me. From the moment I stepped inside, I was transported to a bygone era, overwhelmed by the weight of history that permeates every corner of this majestic structure.
The cathedral's architecture is a testament to human creativity and skill. Its soaring spires and intricate details are a sight to behold. The craftsmanship on display is nothing short of remarkable, with each delicate carving and carefully placed stone revealing the dedication and talent of the artisans who brought this architectural masterpiece to life. Every turn brought new surprises, and I found myself lost in admiration, marveling at the sheer grandeur of it all.
However, the cathedral's beauty extends far beyond its physical appearance. Its walls reverberate with stories of centuries past, and the sense of timelessness is palpable. It has witnessed historical events, joyous celebrations, and solemn moments of reflection. As I learned about its rich history, I couldn't help but feel a deep reverence for the generations that came before us and the cultural heritage they left behind.
Inside the cathedral, I encountered a collection of special sculptures that added an extra layer of fascination. These sculptures, meticulously crafted with exquisite detail, seemed to possess a life of their own. Their expressive forms and captivating presence drew me in, and I was captivated by the stories they told. Each one was a testament to the artistic prowess of the past, reminding me of the power of human creativity and the ability to transform stone into something truly extraordinary.
In conclusion, Braunschweig Cathedral is more than just a building. It is a gateway to the past, an architectural wonder, and a repository of history and art. Visiting this remarkable cathedral is an immersive experience that will transport you to ancient times and leave you with a deep appreciation for the enduring legacy of our ancestors. Prepare to be enchanted by its timeless beauty, to marvel at its architectural splendor, and to be moved by the stories it silently whispers.

A long overdue piece , I visited this absolutely beautiful cathedral in April, it was a cloudy morning and I was incidentally in time for Ms.Monika's famed church tour (it was around 11 am ) , and boy was i was amazed. She breathed and lived the cathedral's rich history, dark times and the subsequent restoration. Her impeccable attention to detail and careful explanation bought the cathedral to life. A proficient bi -lingual (German and English) , she did an outstanding job to weave the narrative of the journey of the cathedral from past to present.
The tour itself is about an hour and free , the cathedral has stood the test of time and is a testament to faith, history and changing times of the surrounding regions. The architecture (gothic- renaissance) is a splendid remainder of the rich history and cultural heritage of the city itself. The staff and local agencies involved are doing a wonderful job of preserving this splendid piece of architecture, if Braunschweig is not on your radar, give it a try, gems like these won't dissapoint you.

Although the frontage is a rebuilt of the old castle, inside there is a shopping mall. In a city like Braunschweig the mall is well visited, and attracts visitors from neighbouring towns and villages. The schloss (palace) is easily accessible by public transport.
Other than the mall, the main attraction is the schloss museum. Although small, it is quite nice and informative. One can also climb to the roof top where the Quadriga statue is located. On the right side, there is also a public library.

In Brunswick's schlossplatz stands the stunning building known as Brunswick Palace. When I passed by this majestic monument on the route to Gaussberg Park, I must admit that it was awe-inspiring. Only when I travel to the UK do I see monuments like this.
According to what I was told, this palace was constructed sometime in the 18th century and underwent a number of renovations over its existence. I have heard that it once served as a residence for the Brunswick dukes in the 18th century.
Wonderful to pass past this building.

Stunning City Palace with a remarkable history. The old home of the Dukes of Braunschweig, the last of whom abdicated in 1918, the Schloss was destroyed twice, first by fire and then of course in the bombing raids of the Second World War. Against massive protests it was demolished in the 1960s and finally rebuilt in the 2000s to cover a shopping mall.
You can easily spot the parts that came from the original Schloss. The architecture is beautiful and the site is in the centre of the city so absolutely a must visit when in Braunschweig. There’s a small museum in the left hand wing of the palace that is free, as well as the lifts to see the Quadriga at the very top that’s also free for the time being. The entrance is just to the right of the main entrance.

It’s almost nonexistent next to his Vienna or even Magdeburg buildings. Stores inside are also just okay. Not worth driving more than a short distance.
Roman Hans — Google review
Decided to take the train back from here to Hannover airport and thus had the chance to experience this great place. Whilst I perhaps expected a bit more grandeur on the outside the inside is interestingly quirky and nice to look at and experience.
Andrew Kaufmann — Google review
Small station with a unique interior design akin to the Flintstones. The floor has an undulating design with matching wall design. Quirky and so not Germany. The cafe/bakery is large with many tables, ample space and with a clear view of the platforms.
Shahir Shamsir — Google review
Hundertwasser's last work. Enjoy the miracle in real life, don’t hesitate to wait a little bit and be alone in every little corner possible. It’s living art in the real life, people are living and moving around. it’s natural, don’t be surprised. For us, it was worth waiting for another train to continue our journey.

This station is unique and difference from other station that I ever saw in Germany, it's nice mosaic style.

Worst train station ever. Not a single train arrives or leaves on time. If you ever plan a trip, stay away from this station. Your entire journey will fail because of this place.

Many times I swooshed by this marvelous piece of art from Friedensreich Hunderwasser...its worth a visit and taking a walk around...
A really nice little “mall town”.
It feels very much like a nice little village, if every building was a designer clothes store. It really uses the Disneyland trick to kinda close off the outside world to make you relaxed and feel encapsulated in the shopping feel, of course on a much smaller scale but still.
There’s even a very impressive playground, to entertain the children while the parents shop.
Also nice food options there where nice pizzas in the back of the compound, and a Five Guys burger joint whose burgers I can really recommend.
Samuel Wollenberg — Google review
Beautiful place with alot of designer shops and food courts. There is alot of parking available inside and on the next building you which is quite affordable. It’s really fun and beautiful of you visit around Christmas although on weekends it’s very busy.

Great selection of brands. Selection in stores good also. Best of all was the way they set up the outlet. I expected storage buildings but it’s more like a small town where you walk outdoors between shops. There’s an opportunity to buy hamburgers, pizza and crepes but we found no real good. Prices are decent.

Such a nice village
Get lost around the shops
Get hungry and get some loaded fries or waffles
I do agree with some others that the parking is over priced and should actually be free if you have shopped in the village, they should validate your ticket, if you haven't bought anything then it's fine pay the fine 😊
Doany brands to choose from
Here is definitely something for everyone
Nice enough as well that they have toilets located everywhere and unlikely in Germany they are free.

Beautiful shopping village. Many shops & cafés.
Great bargains 👍
Not as big as metzingen outletcity but it's close to Hamburg, hence convenient.
If you travel via public transport, a bus shuttle service takes you to the outlets directly from the train station.

It's really nice place who are brand lovers. All Brands at Same place! What a Cool Thing! While Visiting Outlet City one should have ample time because it takes alot of time to visit each store.
There are some vending machines to eat and drink. There are free of cost WC. There are designated places for small kids to play.

Love the small streets. Good shops and most of it pretty cheap as well. Not too big, which is a huge plus. Great parking, although I don’t get the fee (4 euros)… 🤷🏼♀️

Designer Outlet Neumünster is a shopper's dream come true! This outlet offers a fantastic retail therapy experience with its diverse range of high-end brands at discounted prices.
The layout of the outlet is well-planned, making it easy to navigate through the various stores. The wide selection of shops, from fashion to home goods, ensures that there's something for every taste and preference. The ambiance is inviting, and the open-air setting adds a pleasant touch to the shopping experience.
What truly sets Designer Outlet Neumünster apart is the exceptional customer service. The staff members are not only friendly and approachable but also knowledgeable about the products and willing to assist. Whether you're a fashionista or just browsing, their hospitality adds an extra layer of enjoyment to your visit.

We came here early around 1030am and all the outdoor parking is already full so we had to park in the carpark building on the opposite side of the Outlet. Do expect traffic jam as this is super auto centric area. There is women exclusive parking spot on the groundfloor of the carpark but somehow a lot of men park there. Free umbrella provided on a bad weather. By the time we exit at 1400 the carpark building was so full, that there is a queue to enter.
Unfortunately, i didnt snap any pic here as it was constantly raining.
On the price tag, there will be 2 prices attached. One is standard retail price and another is outlet price which is normally 10% cheaper. If you are lucky, there are also a third price tag, sales price, where the price would be up to 70% off. No discount on food, standard price for 5guys and Starbucks. Is it worth travelling here? Yes, if you want or need to shop a lot of new clothe, shoe or kitchenware. Do come in a group so it makes the travelling worthwhile.

The Holstentor Museum in Lubeck is a historic gate which stands proud as a relic of the city's mercantile days. It is a popular tourist destination and houses displays about Lubecks medieval past. The gate is well-maintained and has an impressive effect, making it one of the highlights of any visit to Lubeck.
Beautiful town with beautiful people. A real pleasure to walk this streets of history, to eat at the riverside, to visit the museums and churches and take the lift up in the highest tower.

Beautiful medieval city gate. It’s interesting how the two towers are dissolved into the flat elevation on the inner city-facing side.

Holstein gates are the perfect solution for any garden or plot. Their stylish design and high quality workmanship make a great impression. They are strong, functional and durable. I am delighted with my Holstein Gate and would recommend it to anyone looking for an elegant and secure solution for their property.

Small but truly historical. This structure was completed in the 1400 and it's just amazing to be able to go inside and get a feel of how life was back then. It felt like being inside an old castle.
Somethings you only see in the movies. It was a great learning experience going here.
Rommel Turingan — Google review
Imposing structure that you cannot miss walking into Lubeck's central square from the train station. Definitely built to denote strength and power and while it's sagging into its centre, looks like it'll still.be around 500 years from now. It's a paid museum now but just walking through the square and through its gate is an awesome experience.

Holstentor is the western gate of the fortified medieval city which was the capital of entire Hansaetic League of Baltic cities for centuries.
Dating back to 1464, it is considered one of the most beautiful medieval gates in all Germany, and for that reason was even on the back side of the old 50 DM banknote.
The gate is really stunning - fairy tale like and little bit leaned.
Inside is a small historic museum with models and history explanation and great gift shop. The outer face has gun openings for city protection, while the inner face is richly decorated. Perfect photo op both, day and night
Dejan Braki — Google review
I didn't go in to the building - not sure it was even open to be honest as both times I walked through there were no obvious signs. The building is one of the old city gates and the emblem of modern Lubeck. It is a very impressive, brick built fifteenth century fortification but now stands in isolation, the city walls having been removed in the nineteenth century.
There is an interesting contrast between the inside and outside walls of the building. The walls facing the city have lots of windows and are very ornate, the exterior walls have far fewer openings other than those for guns. There are also doubts over the accuracy of the early twentieth century restorations.
Marcus Hurley — Google review
The primary attraction in Lubeck is this gate, serving as a prominent entry point to the old city. Positioned along the river and surrounded by historic brick buildings, strolling through these historical streets and dining by the riverside is truly enjoyable.

The Holsten Gate is a city gate marking off the western boundary of the old center Lübeck. It was built in 1464 and is the symbol of the city. The Brick Gothic construction is one of the relics of Lübeck's medieval city fortifications and one of two remaining city gates.

Another great historical site, the old gatehouse to Lübeck. A museum on site to visit here as well.
Lubeck's most important church, Marienkirche, is a beautiful Gothic structure that was rebuilt after almost being destroyed by the RAF during WWII. The intricate details of the brick-vaulted roof are what fascinate people, rather than the sheer size and height of the building.
Amazing interior. So high are the towers that they can almost touch the sky.
Munteanu Catalin — Google review
Amazing monumental church with a lot of other interesting things to see inside. I think it worth the price of admission (4 euro). It's a must see if you visit Lübeck and you are interested in history and architecture.
Alex Spa — Google review
A monumental church with a few curiosities including a spectacular wall clock and a bell that’s fallen from the tower, crashed into the floor and left there for everyone to see. The height of the ceiling absolutely defies belief and gravity. Stunning setting during Christmas as the markets surround the church
David Maddison — Google review
Magnificently proportioned architecture with well-crafted brickwork.
KH Chong — Google review
Marienkirche is the third-largest church in Germany, and one of the five large Gothic brick churches in Lübeck. The interior is stunning and learning the history of it was so interesting. During an air raid, a lot of the church was destroyed but it's been beautifully restored. During my time at the church, they were restoring another facade as well. There is a reconstruction of the Danse Macabre, and also some beautiful reliefs of the Last Supper and some statues of Mary, Gabriel, etc. I'm a huge fan of Bach and I was delighted to read that Bach may have come to Marienkirche to play the now-destroyed Totentanzorgel (Danse Macabre organ). I believe they also have services in Marienkirche, although I went on a weekday so I'm not 100% positive. Based on signage, I would say so. I recommend stopping in to learn about the history of Lübeck and the church, or even to sit in on a service! I'm going to come back perhaps to see the other four churches.
Siobhán Whittle — Google review
Gothic evangelical church. Outside quite impressive but inside quite poor compared to Italian churches. Anyway a must see in in Lübek. Don't forget to give a look to the brass devil just outside the church and read his history.

Must visit when in Lübeck, very large scale church. The dance of death is very interesting and the broken bells are a reminder of how easily the historical treasures of Lübeck could easily have been destroyed

St. Mary's Church which was built between 1250 and 1350 is the third largest church in Germany. It and has always been a symbol of the power and prosperity of the old Hanseatic city. Entrance is ticketed, 4 eur per person but it is without doubt worth to enter and see its magnitude from every corner inside.
Paweł — Google review
Out of 7 spires that dominate Lubeck skyline, two of them belong to St. Mary's Church.
The Church was built in a time frame of 100 years between 1260 and 1350, replacing the 1200's smaller Chapel.
Lubeck's St. Mary's is considered a cornerstone of German Gothic brick Churches.
It was built according to French Gothic Churches with outer supporting arches but with use of bricks instead of stone. Likewise, the interiors feature the world's tallest brick vaults.
St. Mary's suffered a total destruction in WWII, but was rebuilt shortly after the war.
Two huge bells which fell from the Tower during the bombing are kept in one of the Chapels inside.
TIP: You wont notice the St. Mary's sheer size from the ground as it's packed in downtown area. To appreciate it's size observe it from St. Peters tower which has the best city views.
The only reason I deduct one star is paying entrance fee of 4 Euros
Dejan Braki — Google review
Entry to this church is €4 and I recommend a visit, especially to see the exhibition about the Lübecker Totentanz (medieval dancebof death) and astronomical clock.

Solemn place of Christianity with 800 yrs of history. Gothic brick basillica is well preserved and have become a multi purpose venue for worship, concerts, and art exhibits.

Beautiful church. Entry is 4eur for adults, 2 for kids.
The organ is pretty, but the astronomical clock is truly amazing.
Stained glasses are worth checking out, and the ‘Totentanz’
István Nagy — Google review
This is a huge church but it's crammed into the streets nearby so it's difficult to get an idea of the scale. Inside the church is vast - apparently the largest brick built vault in the world. The interior is whitewashed and then decorated but in a very understated way. There are a few small chapels to the side, an interesting altarpiece (I think), a recreated astronomical clock and World War 1 memorial. Definitely worth a visit to see the wealth of the Hanseatic merchants.
Lively Innenstadt is Lübeck’s medieval old town, known for its courtyards, alleys, and squares lined with ornate gabled buildings. Among its many landmarks are the 1400s Holstentor gate, home to a city history museum, Gothic churches like the towering Marienkirche, and the 1286 Heiligen-Geist-Hospital. The Museum Harbor has historic sailing ships, while small specialist shops and German restaurants dot the area.
Travemünde is a tranquil coastal destination and a key port for Scandinavian ferries. Along the Trave River and Strandpromenade, patrons can savor seafood fare at various eateries while enjoying scenic views of Travemünde Beach and the Bay of Lübeck. Fish sandwiches are available for purchase at the Fishermen's harbor stalls.

This tower in Wismar has a very beautiful view over the city centre and harbour. It's possible to see it only as a part of group tour. The group tours happen at the each full hour and cost 3 euros per person. The visit time is around 45 to 60 minutes and happens with guide and group. The stories told by guide take around half of the tour time, rest is used for climbing and taking pictures. It's rather not for English speaking people only, as the guide speaks only German. But if you're interested in seeing Wismar from above and seeing the tower from inside, it's definitely worth it.

Beautiful tower now used as a memorial of sorts. It was mostly destroyed in WW2 by the allies. All that's left is the tower. Some statues at the base are interesting. We didn't try to go inside the tower. Definitely worth coming to check out if in the city. It's one of the main sights.

The remains of the church which was destroyed in the WWII. Unfortunately the rest of the church was demolished by the DDR rule, but they saved the tower. A great view over the city from the tower.
Per Falkman — Google review
Interesting place of historical significance.
However, don't expect to be able to go on the tour in the tower unless you speak German. We were denied by the cashier and told to go to the close by church instead for a view, because the tour at St Marienkirche wasn't available in English and would take an hour. It didn't matter to us, but she said no. Very disappointed as the inside of the tower and the view was the thing that drew us there, but now we couldn't see it. It was only €3 but it's very frustrating when it's not available for outsiders.

Impressive tower in Wismar city centre, fully recommendable to visit and watch the video about the story of the whole building, it was a huge bassilica !
The Church of St. Nicholas, a magnificent redbrick structure that survived World War II almost unscathed, stands as a testament to Late Gothic architecture in Northern Europe. It is the largest of its kind and boasts a stunning Baroque-style interior adorned in red and beige hues. Visitors can explore the church from 10am to 6pm for a donation of 2 euros per adult, with printed guides available in English and German.
A very beautiful church of St. Nicholas. Jut 5 minutes away from the main station and 10 minutes from the port harbour. This church is one of the main tourist attractions of Wismar. It has the same neo-gothic architecture built up in red stone. Inside you can find printed guides in English and German to have a read while you walk around. Has a small souvenir and postcard kiosk inside the church itself.
SACHIT VARMA — Google review
The main point of attraction is the detailed architecture and artwork. The handbook gotten at the entrance can help you navigate the building and gain more insight. It's proximity to the train station is an added advantage.
Chiamaka — Google review
Not very pretty cathedral on the outside but impressive original details on the inside like this delicate altar from 1400-1430. The incredible height of the cathedral’s ceiling is testament of Wismar formed importance as a Baltic trading hub “Hanse Stadt”. It’s free to enter but a donation of €2.50 is encouraged. Worth a visit.

What a delightful zoo! It's perfect for families - big playground in the middle and it's possible to see all of the animals in one visit without feeling like you're hiking. There's a super collection of animals and the zoo grounds and enclosures are beautifully designed and well-kept. It's a bit pricey but not over-priced. The staff were always friendly. It is a nice place to come for walking and being in nature and with animals. To some animals, it is permitted to come inside of their places so you can feed and touch them and in this way to communicate. It has also a nice kids park and activities for kids.
Anna Cevrim — Google review
From the beginning;
Easy to find and nice parking.
Quite reasonable pricing
Easy to get around and with most of the animals you would expect - But missed Elephants, Zebra and Tiger - maybe also some snakes / reptiles.
The goats where the highlight for our daughter (2 year) -- since you get to go inside the fence and touch / feed the animals.
But talking about feeding - some ignorant visitors feed all animals with the animal food sold at the entrance - and they even feed the paper bags to the animals... Thank good it's not plastic bags !! - But not nice.
Small restaurant with OK menu of fast food - unfortunately there was nothing fast about the serving - 30 minutes for a basic meal is way too long !!
The absolute worst part of the entire park was the toilet facilities at the restaurant - Very small and very very dirty, to the point of too disgusting and hold your breath until the next toilet at the entrance.

Overall a neat spot to bring your kids especially on mediocre day at the coast. It's about a 40 min drive from Lübeck and even closer from other popular areas in the Lübecker Bucht. Food options are very limited, but enough to get a quick bit or the obligatory ice cream. Better restaurants relatively close, though. Prices are fair.
Nice little museum, but the outdoor part didn't have any signs in English, only German.

A chilling reminder of a less forgiving time where the west and east were divided, a Cold War watchtower with a history of those that tried to make there way to the west….. worth a visit.

If you visit the church: Look around, imagine a service in January with snow everywhere where Nyord is cut off from the outside world: You will hardly get any closer to the idea of what life was like in rural municipalities 150+ years ago.
Also, note the opportunities to make small (but important) contributions alongside the organ.

Trelleborg Museum of the Viking Age is a small yet absorbing museum featuring an impressive circular fort built around 900AD. The exhibit showcases the life and culture of the Vikings, with displays and reconstructions that are historically accurate. One can witness live demonstrations by actors who are knowledgeable about the Vikings and their history. The museum also offers creative workshops for kids, making it a great family-friendly destination to visit.

Quite small but very interesting. Impressive fort grounds but the fort is simply not there. Just the original outlines and one of the buildings that was part of the fort itself. Some general buildings are built as well and they feel very historically correct. The actors are very good. They know a lot about the Vikings and will tell you enthusiastically. Definitely worth a short visit. Especially with kids since they offer a lot of creative workshops in which they can participate.

Quite a cool museum with enough interesting information and artefacts for the adults and activities for the kids. Admission includes the museum, as well as the remnants of the original Fort, a recreated long house (built in 1942), and a recreated viking village. So we felt it was good value for money. You can either get general admission or admission with activities included. With general admission you can play some of the games in the recreated viking village.
The car park is quite large so there was plenty of space for us to park our 6m long camper, and there were other campers who were longer than us as well. Just note there's no overnight parking/camping allowed.

The Danish countryside is beautiful, with rolling fields and pretty buildings, but not a lot going on geologically. Here it’s different. The huge white cliffs rise up from the sea, and tower above you as you arrive at the bottom of Denmark’s longest staircase.
The beach is a very narrow strip of stones washed from the cliff, with the odd pile of chalk that has fallen from above.
The beach is probably not the safest part of the world, with the crumbly chalk cliffs above, but it is beautiful.
The centre itself is interesting and is worth a quick visit, but it’s the nature that’s the main attraction here.

A beautiful spot. The stairs are brutal on the way up, so if you’re not super into the idea of doing some cardio work the view from up top is still stunning. To visit, I recommend going to the Geocenter first for some information.

Beautiful sights. One stairs was closed, the one we took was really long. They say 15min to the beach but it feels longer. The way to the third stairs wasn't available because of the tide, it might be wise to time your visit at low tide for a full experience. The way back on the same set of stairs was long and very intense. I would not recommend it for those with low stamina. But for those who are up for it, the view is really worth it. Saw a beautiful sunset afterwards in the harbour later that day.

Very nice natural spot south to copenaghen. We took the car to visit it from the city, took about 1.45 h to reach the geocenter parking.
Parking here costs 5 euros, to be paid at the arrival.
There are two different paths that lead to two separate beaches (rock and small beaches). Water is good. In the morning the sun shine on the cliffs and on the beach, on the afternoon goes behind the cliff and if it's not a hot day the wind will probably freeze you.
Very nice and cured forest to walk in, to reach the beaches you need to walk many steps (up and down). Cafe and restaurant present near the geocenter. Free toilet available.

I wanted to see the visitor centre at møns klint after seeing the images on google maps. A local bnb host said the visitor centre was pretty small. So when we arrived around 10.30 and saw the ticket price we were held aback.
However we wanted to see the 3D film about extreme weather events, and at the desk we heard there was a guided fossil hunting tour at 14:00 so we decided to go inside after all.
And it was the best decision of the week! The 3D film was a National Geographic film and there were English and German dubs available.
after that we learned a whole lot about the geography of Møns Klint, why the fossils were there to be found. And the history of the area and Denmark.
I especially loved the exhibition on Amber and insects that were found inside it. So much to see!
The museum has multiple interactive displays that are interesting for kids, but secretly I enjoyed myself quite a bit as well.
The VR bird and climbing experiences were cool. And the workshop with microscopes to study the fossils helped me prepare for the big fossil hunt.
We had lunch in the café and the food was pretty decent. Although maybe a bit pricey.
14:00 we gathered outside the building and were brought on a (de)tour with the guide. Because of the tide and wind the beach at the centre wasn’t accesible, so we walked about 2 km to the next big staircase. Underway the guide told all kinds of cool facts and stories about the forest leading up to the 499 step staircase.
On the beach we searched for fossils and that was the end of the tour.
I eventually spent 7 hours in and around the centre so it’s money well spent! Would recommend.

Guided tours of a 1950s underground fortress carved into limestone cliffs, plus cannons & tanks.
We visited Stevnsfort a group of friends, took the special tour, and what an experience! Our guide Jørn Due was a great storyteller, and we had an amazing time around the fort and all the hallways and secret passage ways. A big recommendation to visit this place of Danish military history! 🇩🇰
Sangramsing kayte — Google review
Big fan, I think it is important to enlighten people about our past history. There are many well maintained army vehicles to see, also there is the underground area if you are not claustrophobic.
Tally Paulsen — Google review
A tour that is definitely worthwhile. Not only the bunkers and all the military equipment are worth the trip, but especially the dramatic history behind them. Under one of the most beautiful landscapes in Denmark, hides a colossal witness and actor of the Cold War. An absolute must for anyone interested in history.
A guide leads the tour through the facility in Danish. An app allows you to follow the most important information in other languages.
Jochen Rabe — Google review
If for the museum we intend the small room inside the office, it was interesting but full Danish so not much to understand. While the outside exhibition is worth to be visited.
Pietro Splatters — Google review
Very interesting museum for kids and adults. We were lucky to have an inspiring guide who took us through the whole history of the place. The most interesting thing for me was walking deep under the ground imagining how it must have been to work there.
Kristina Kunz — Google review
Very amazing place stuck in time!
But to visit the underground bunker, you need to take a guided tour, which are only available in german & danish. If you do no speak any of those like I do, you need to download an app with the local wifi there, to listen to an audio guide in English
The main issue is that the content of the audio guide represents half, or a quarter of what the guide says, so you miss a lot of informations unfortunatly
PS : it's quite cold down there, don't come with light clothes
Antonin — Google review
This was an awesome experience. Not only are you being sent some 50 years back in time, you are also getting the vibe of the Cold War, feeling, seeing and smelling the underground fortress.
Good family tour, also for the children.
Guided tour takes approximately 1,5 hours.
Johnny Højfeldt — Google review
Interesting to walk through the site above ground and best of all the tour of the bunker deep beneath he ground! Bring a sweater as the bunker is 10 degrees year round. Make sure you download the app for the tour as they only offer it with Danish speaking guides. Guided tour is mandatory for seeing the underground bunker.
Yahel J — Google review
Visited out of season (Nov) and fortunately they still offered the full tour which included the underground secret tunnels.
Very welcoming staff and they were very knowledgeable of the cold war museum and the surrounding area.
Our tour guide Yan spoke very good English and fortunately for us he did our tour in English.
Yan gave us an amazing tour and we would recommend a visit. Thanks

Amazing former military base where you can explore all the equipment, installations, and instruments like radars, canons, missiles and the base itself. You must buy a ticket for a guided tour. It takes 1.5 hours and gives you access to the large underground bunker. It is spectacular and well preserved like a time capsule. This is a "must see" for anyone interested in military and cold war history. The museum has an interesting gift shop with books and some military gear.
Bring a jacket (it is cold in the bunker).
Joakim Howlid — Google review
A very interesting place. The underground tour in particular is very interesting, informative and impressive. A star deduction because the tour is only available in Danish and as a foreigner you have to walk around with an audio guide on your own mobile phone and have to listen against the voice of the guide.
The place was unique because of the history that it holds. You can see three layers (chalk, fish clay and lime stone). The fish clay is actually the remains of asteroid that collided 65 million years ago. Worth visiting once but I would go for Mons Klint if I have to choose anything between these two. Be careful with the steep stairs that take you to the root of the cliff.

Very nice place to visit.
Parking:
1) You drive in and park.
2) You buy a ticket (NFC or card pay)
3) You hold the ticket code up to the scanner to leave
⚠️ You pay the same price for 5 minutes as for 5 hours ⚠️
If you want to go down, make sure to get something to drink with. People with special needs can not go down.
You will climb a lot below so take good shoes with.

A Scenic Stroll with a Few Items to Consider
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Stevns Klint in Denmark, and overall, it was a delightful experience. The main highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the breathtaking walk above the cliffs, which offered stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
While the natural beauty of Stevns Klint was captivating, I did encounter a few minor inconveniences during my visit. One issue was the lack of multilingual signage inside the chapel. It would have been helpful to have translations in English, considering the number of international visitors this beautiful location attracts. However, I must commend the park authorities for having signs in both Danish and English (as well as German) scattered along the grounds, which provided some context and information about the area.
Unfortunately, during my visit, the second, more recent chapel was closed, which was a disappointment. It would have been fascinating to explore its interior and learn more about its history and significance. Nonetheless, I understand that occasional closures are inevitable, and it didn't significantly detract from the overall experience.
One thing to note is that paid parking is required at Stevns Klint. However, I found that there was ample parking available, which eased any concerns I had about finding a spot. Additionally, a pleasant surprise was the presence of a playground for kids. It's a thoughtful touch that ensures families with young ones can enjoy the visit even more.
In conclusion, Stevns Klint offers a remarkable opportunity to immerse oneself in nature's grandeur and witness awe-inspiring coastal cliffs. The lack of multilingual signage inside the chapel and the closure of the second chapel were minor setbacks, but the scenic beauty of the area and the well-maintained grounds compensated for these issues. With ample parking and a playground for children, it's a destination that caters to a wide range of visitors. If you appreciate natural wonders and don't mind the language barrier, Stevns Klint is definitely worth a visit.

I don't fully understand how this is a world heritage site. I've visited more than 300, and this one is a downer. Sure it is pretty around and there are sediments and fossils (I guess). But world heritage? Still a beautiful cost.

Very interesting to look around. Stairs down to the beach to the right of the old church. Pretty steep, so no point to try if you have any leg problems. The sand/ gravel at the beachbis very uneven. Bringing a stroller for a Child is also no point. Have good shoes, Mountain boots or similar.
If you don't need to go to the Beach there is a very nice walking path at the top of the kliff, with several great lookout points.

Stevns Klint deserves an unequivocal five-star rating. It may not rival the height of Mons Klint, but its own beauty is undeniable. This remarkable destination offers breathtaking cliffs, a charming church, a majestic lighthouse, a fun playground, clean toilets, and picturesque nature walks. Amidst the negative reviews, it's important to remember that different does not mean bad. Stevns Klint exudes tranquility, providing a serene escape into a captivating world of rugged cliffs and untouched natural wonders. Appreciate its unique allure, immerse yourself in its history, and let it leave an indelible mark on your heart.

Roskilde Cathedral is a remarkable example of Gothic architecture from the 12th century, constructed with bricks and featuring twin spires. Originally built by Bishop Absalon in the year 1170, it has undergone numerous reconstructions that showcase over eight centuries of Danish architectural styles. As the royal mausoleum and a designated UNESCO World Heritage site, it contains over 37 tombs of Danish kings and queens. A full-color guidebook is included with admission.
In the cathedral you can sense the early gothic architecture in Northern Europe. In the cathedral are buried more than 40 Danish royal family members which is both impressive and exciting. Great customer service.

Absolutely stunning, really worth getting a proper tour because there's just so much history that it's great to learn - I only hope I can remember some of it! It's a mostly baroque cathedral with some elements from lots of periods. This is where Danish royalty have been buried since the 1400s and it's suitably beautiful. This is actually older than Copenhagen cathedral, so the oldest cathedral in the country. It's definitely a MUST-SEE if you come to Denmark. There are also a lot of services (it's a very active cathedral), including two on Sunday - when I might update this review! There's an organ concert once a month, which I would have loved to see! Many many thanks to Brian, one of the volunteers who was so knowledgeable, kind and patient: the perfect tour guide!

If you like history and especially UNESCO site, this place is a must visit. It's a cathedral with crypts and takes you down a memory lane. Many kings, queens, and other royals have this place as their final resting place. The cathedral itself is beautiful and very well maintained. Takes about an hour to cover. Also, about 10 mins walk gets you to Viking museum- which is another place that has so much rich history.

You really appreciate the visit once you have been here. Amazing infrastructure and captivating monuments.
Entry ticket costs 60 DKK per adult as of December 2022. It is worth and the ticket cost is reasonable.

A lot more to see than first meets the eye. At first I was hesitant because they charge you 70DKK to get in, but there is a lot to see and you can easily spend two hours in there. Lots of crypts and ornamented coffins, side chapels with wonderful decorations and you can go upstairs to see everything from above. Also there is a small museum on the second floor.

We were very surprised at how beautiful the church was. The Danish Qweens casket for her was amazing . Knowing that there are over 1000 caskets there and only 37 are known is just amazing, the artwork on all the casket is just beautiful. A must visit for sure it takes a long time to see it all enjoy

Very interesting place! Try to be there at .00 o’clock to see the interesting “killing” of the dragoon clock!

Beautiful! Got an English guidebook with photos and history with the admission price. Reminiscent of Westminster abby but I liked it more.. a digestible size, gorgeous, and so much history. Access to the upper level with a small cathedral museum and lovely views of the main church. I went on a whim while in town and it was totally worth it.

Lots to see and good guide available. The kids guide and treasure hunt style game for younger visitors was a clever idea and loved by our two boys. Reasonably priced, a must see if you visit Roskilde.

Passing through Roskilde, we made ab effort to come and visit the cathedral and are glad we did. I think the importance of this cathedral had not been promoted highly enough as an important destination for international visitors. The final resting home of Denmark's monarchs, the history and beauty, were significant. Even my kids (7 & 10) appreciated it. Staff were so helpful and took the time to show us around. Well worth visiting.

I definitely recommend going, even if you are not interested in cathedrals, the guide told a very detailed story about the past, which was very interesting.
Definitely a must see object in Roskilde. A cathedral with its own charm and story ⛪️

Great architecture and history. Small but informative museum.

My Saturday birthday morning would be an all-day tour; a grand day trip around Copenhagen. When the tour bus had gathered everyone from all the stops and our guide, Anders, introduced himself, we did the same by stating our names and the countries we were from. I found out that a young lady from the UK, was also celebrating her birthday on the same day. The cold, rainy morning drive took us to our first stop of the day; Roskilde Cathedral.
Seen as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Roskilde Cathedral is the Lutheran Church of Denmark and the official royal burial church for many Danish monarchs built in the 12th and 13th centuries. From November to March, much of the viewing takes place outside. The history given by our guide, gave insight to what was offered inside the cathedral that we could not see.

It's the official royal burial church of the Danish Monarchs. In 2018, the future resting place and monument for the current queen of Denmark Queen Margrethe II were placed in the chapel of St. Brigitte. Only King Frederick IX and Queen Ingrid were buried outside the cathedral, according to their wish.

One of the few places that deserve a visit in Denmark😉Said this, the cathedral offers several reasons to be visited. The most important is the fact that it is the place where at least 40 danish kings and queens are buried here. An accurate visit can take between one and two hours. There is a ticket.

It is imposing. The altar, pipe organ and pulpit are well decorated. The tombs of historical monarchs are ornate.

I wish I had been able to go inside! The outside was amazing. This medieval town is everything you read about in stories and history books. Denmark - I LOVE YOU
The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde showcases an array of ancient and medieval maritime culture. The highlight of the museum is five Viking ships that were discovered submerged at Skuldelev, majestically displayed in the main hall. Visitors can also explore the workshops of Museumso where archaeology and reconstruction work takes place, and Nordic longboats depart. Daily guided tours are available in English during summer months free of charge.
The museum is very well organized and very interesting. It does combine interactive plays for the kids as well as much educational information. The artifacts are beautiful and the models very detailed. A great destination for a rainy day. The city itself is a beautiful spot to spend a few days.

One of the most amazing Viking boat museums I've had the pleasure of visiting. Some of the activities were scheduled to occur once or twice per day so proper planning is required. The buildings housed various activities and most were open to experience. The reconstruction of the boats, their history, and the two decades worth of restoration was amazing to see. The tour guides were passionate, energetic, and also had a great sense of humor. The cafe offered mead which was icing on the cake.

I love the vikings and viking ships. I also love traditional crafts and archaeology. So this museum pretty much ticked all my boxes. Spent several hours walking through the museum learning all about these fantastic archaeological finds and their exciting recreations. And the best part is you can step on the boats and if you book you can take a ride in one!
Honestly was the highlight of my museum visiting career so far... lovely staff too, v knowledgeable and clearly passionate.
Excited to revisit when it expands in the future.

Highlight of our visit to Denmark.
We joined a guided tour which was delivered fanatically by staff, very impressed with her knowledge.
Seeing the Viking boats and hearing the history of them was fantastic.
Sadly we visited in December so didn’t get the chance to see the replica boats on the water as they was covered up. Would definitely return in the warmer months to see them.

If visiting Denmark, it is not far from Copenhagen. Overall a nice size museum, plus outdoor activities for children and even active restoration of Viking ship. We did not do the sailing, but it looked quite nice, reservations are needed in advance.

What a fantastic day out. The Viking Ship Museum was brilliant, staff were friendly and happy to answer any questions.
It's good for the whole family. There is a little workshop with tools and wood. Kids can make their own boats and try them out in a designated pool to test them 😊. We went on a Sunday, which was very quiet. The little cafe was open which was lovely.
So glad we made this museum one of our stops on our weekends away in Copenhagen. It was only a 35min train journey, reasonably priced and a regular service. A definite must for people that like Viking History ☺️.

Everything you want from a ship museum: original archaeological finds, scale models, a working boatyard with detailed explanations of the construction process, actual reconstructed ships – and boat rides to try out the technology in first person mode.
We also got the chance to wear an authentic replica of a Viking shield and helmet and get a swing with a sword and axe.

A very cool museum. It has 5 Viking ships on display and lots of interesting information about their recovery and preservation. They have an area where the kids can play, pretend to be Vikings and sit on replica ships. The outdoor area is even bigger where you can see old ship building techniques. We were only here briefly but I’m sure you could spend hours here if you wanted to.

Amazing experience, such fascinating history and exhibits. There are guided tours worth going on so you can find out even more about these ships and ask questions. There are also some objects from around the Viking world worth seeing.

Visiting this place was fun. I am a fan of this people and the finds and reconstructions were very interesting. I really liked the explanation of the creation of the different types of strings they used. Fun is the area where the boats are built for children. Present places of refreshment. Advised

A really nice, and informative museum. It is not just display of the old viking ships but also, the workshop where you can build something yourself or watch as works are being done, the very knowledgeable staff who are friendly and ready to answer your questions and all the little details that provide you with a really idea of how things were. I really enjoyed it and would totally recommend this museum be it for young ones or adults. Around the museum area, there is a restaurant but also area where you can lid on the grass and have a nice view of the water

Very cool experience!! They have a Viking boat you can go I’m on in the harbor that’s part of the museum which was a really cool experience! The museum had cool history behind the Viking time period and artifacts. The coolest parts in my opinion are the bots and history section on the second level, on the bottom level a lot of it is about excavating pieces so if you don’t have much time I’d recommend just taking a quick glance at that part. They also have two cool half ships that kids can play in and explore as well as some Viking cloaks you can put on, super fun for kids too! A must see if you visit the Copenhagen area!

We were there last month and had a blast!
I can’t tell enough people about the trip on a Viking ship where we got to row and sail.
The living history museum is very well done.
I learned so much and wish I could build my own Viking ship at home now.
We showed up at 10 am to try to get into one of the first boats but had to wait about 2 hours to set sail.
We used the time to visit the cathedral near by. It was worth the wait and time well spent.
If you could get tickets in advance I would have done so in a heartbeat though.
We ended up spending almost a whole day on this excursion but no one regretted it.

From the Roskilde Cathedral, we moved to another site in Roskilde, the Viking Ship Museum. The ground, still wet from the previous rain, along with grey skies, and dense clouds, gave the site an ominous feel.
Once the group departed the tour bus, we weaved between buildings and areas that during the spring and summer would have been buzzing with tourists, guides, and local workers. Instead, we viewed partly constructed sailing Viking ships in the museum’s boatyard freely. I peeked into the windows of a rope making shop as well as other buildings as our group made its way to the museum.
As we approached the museum, there were a few people on the grounds, working on ship replicas. Inside the museum, to gain knowledge about the five original, excavated Viking vessels (Skuldelev ships) from 1962, a film, Five Viking Ships from Skuldelev played in a small theatre downstairs.
Upstairs, the haunting view of the 11th century ships are on display. Striking and poignant, to view these ships that were buried for years would make one wish that they could talk and reveal their history for all to hear.
Overall: There is a chance to board a traditional Nordic boat that allows passengers to take part in rowing and other jobs to have an idea what it was like to be a Viking. Check the website for availability starting in May to September.

Using the Copenhagen discover card, you can visit Roskilda viking ship museum with the train journey also covered by the card. The story of the ships is told from 3 aspects, archaeological, people of the time and warfare. Excellent app allows you to listen whilst roaming the museum. Do not forget the outside exhibitions(seasonal)

After leaving Helsingør train station, Priscilla and I took about 1.5hr to reach Roskilde Train Station. Google Map showed me a 20min walk to Viking Ship Museum. We need to walk through shops, small roads, cutting through a big open field with side walking trails to some forest and then out to another main road and all the way to the Museum in 25mins according to our walking speed. After the staff scanned our Copenhagen Card, she told us we have 30mins to look around as Museum closed at 4pm. It's different from what Google Map mentioned but I suppose it's because no more daylight saving after 3am on 30 Oct 2023. We managed to have a quick understanding of Viking Ship from exhibition near toilet area in Level -1. Then we saw the skeleton structure of 4 Viking Ship in the Museum. Did to time constraint, we were not able to sit thru a video presentation. Indeed it was a great experience understanding the days of Viking in Denmark and motivated me to read it up further when I return to Singapore. Amazing display of Viking ships in the early days of Danish seafarers. 👍👏😁

This museum was the highlight of our Copenhagen visit, and one of the coolest museums I've ever been to!
We visited in the summer, with good weather, so there was a TON of interactive outdoor activities. This museum is so well laid out, and everything is a learning opportunity (even the trees have placards on them to learn about)!
There's a lot for kids, including building their own boat, and viking games outside. The absolute BEST part was getting to ride in a replica viking ship! You all row together, and depending on where you're seated, you may hoist or direct the sails, or even steer the ship! It was my favorite thing we did!

Worth it. Its really spectacular to be this close to the viking. (Just the culture and story not viking its self i might not make it)
The museum done a great job with the narrative. I’m really enjoying it. How they bring audience to slightly interact with it.
The building is beautiful as well!

It is not big, but quite informative. Both the remains of old ships and modern replicas are very interesting to see and learn about.

Museum contains real remains of 5 ships. Very interesting story and huge effort spent on preserving and assembling the archeological finds. You can also access the docked reconstructed ships and take photos on them, and there is a boatyard with some activities. The museum is quite small though and there is not much else to see apart from the ships, probably spent about 30min in the museum itself.
Contemporary art museum with exhibitions & a permanent collection of painting, sculptures & photos.
Trip from city center will take some time, so leave in the morning if you use public transport. Make sure you go to the beach which is very close. Beach is beautiful and peaceful, wheelchair friendly. They have cozy cafe close to it. Museum itself is not that huge as it seems but you will need some time. You but ticket in the musuem shop.

I guess our family is not that into modern art. Although we think you have to be lucky with the temporary exhibition as well. We arrived in the pooring rain and went out in a bit of sunshine. All by all, a good combination: visit the museum first, then let your mind wander at the nearby seaside.

The place where the museum is located is amazing, specially on a sunny day. The museum itself is not so big and that let's you enjoy the exhibitions calmly, without stressing out about how much you need to see. If you are not that fan of this type of art I would still recommend enjoying the location!

Arken Museum of Modern Art was a great experience. Following the lamp-lit path from the train station was a fun touch. The building itself is cool, and the art exhibitions were impressive. Definitely worth a visit, plus there's a beach nearby to check out afterward!

The space is very well designed with intentionality that enables the curators of the museum to create beautiful spaces to enjoy the work.
Make sure that you budget additional time to see the outdoor spaces!

If you love or are interested in paintings or modern art you will love this place very much. You can spend an entire day in here. If you are not into painting, then just spend couple of hours and then you can take a walk round the museum and go to the nearby beach.

It’s a lovely building. But it all depends on the exhibitions. It’s quiet a long walk from the train. There is a bus that goes sometimes. Louisiana is better in all aspects.

I wasn't sure if even writing a review is worth the time for this place. If you live nearby perhaps a visit to the café is fine, but don't go out of your way for this museum. At least I felt I didn't get much value at all from the time visiting here.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Arken Art Museum in Ishøj. I was captivated by its modern architecture and scenic location by the sea. Arken boasts a diverse and thought-provoking collection of contemporary art.
The museum's curatorial choices showcased a perfect blend of established and emerging artists, providing a unique and enriching experience.
The location of the Arken Art Museum is truly breathtaking. Situated by the sea, the museum offers stunning panoramic views that add an extra layer of beauty to the experience.
It's a truly memorable day trip.

Cool museum but not that much to see. There are a few expositions and we did have a great time but we spend a lot less time then we expected prior to visiting. The building itself is also very cool to watch.

Excellent, incredible and lovely. The museum is lovely combination of modern art and nature. The cafe has unbelievable view to the sea, the landscape is very unique. Cafe offers nice selection of cold food (no warm dishes) which i think makes sense - it's really to avoid the smells of the kitchen in the museum. There are also benches and tables in the cloakroom where one can eat their own food.
The art pieces are meaningful, unlike other modern art exhibitions. Also the permanent exhibitions are still relevant and interesting.
I highly recommend to visit and revisit!
The only downside is getting to the museum by public transport. Without a car it takes at least an hour!

Refik Anadol video art was pretty good but everything else was junk
ARKEN Museum of Modern Art is surrounded by a manmade beachscape, 30 minutes south of Copenhagen.
"The museum showcases one of Scandinavia’s finest collections of contemporary art.
The young architecture student, Søren Robert Lund, surprised the establishment by winning the design competition with a Deconstructivist design, which resembled a giant beached ship."

Must visit if you visited Copenhagen, take train from center to Ishoj and take the bus for 15 mins to Ishoj beach. The exhibition changes every few months, so you better check their instagram for recent update on exhibition.

Nice modern museum located right by the sand dunes. The interestingly shaped interior makes for interesting rooms. One of the three exhibits, digital art by Refik Anadol, was absolutely amazing and a must-see. We spent 20 minutes in front of the artwork . Also, do allow time to taste the amazing food in the cafe. After your visit, take a stroll to the nearby beach.
