One of the kind off must visit view point in the city. Good place and one of the best location to have a panoramic view of the city. Lots of local stalls present to buy momentos to carry back home. Pleasant view but usually bustling with people.

One of the must-sees on your Budapest trip. Beautiful panoramic view. Unfortunately, the memorial closed for renovations, but we were still able to enjoy the breathtaking views of this magnificent city. Good place to go for trekking.
Yuvi JPM — Google review
The whole place is under construction so you can not get in. But it was a good hike in the morning we hiked here from Bada castle through the hill trail, it was good. The best time is early morning or late evening to see the city.
Pranav Rathi — Google review
Even thought the place was closed, the way all the way up there was long but a nice walk, the view from up there is incredible! It was worth every step.
Aline Baach — Google review
Walk till the statue is really good. I went in the evening, and it was well lit, hence safe. From top you will be able to see good view of Budapest's iconic places.
CLINT DAVIES — Google review
A healthy hike up the hill with very nice panorama views of the city. The statue is sadly currently (July 30, 2022) under maintenance with a fence around it, but you can still get a decent look at it! Overall definitely worth the climb.
Mat?ss Andi?? — Google review
A beautiful monument, too pity that it was close for renovation. The view over the city is great here!
Roxana Iancu — Google review
Despite being locked for renovations, the walk up the hill to the citadel was so worth it. The beauty of this area in plain autumn is beyond incredible. And the views over Budapest are simply amazing. Go and enjoy the walk, the views and the beauty around.
Ivan Garcia — Google review
Awesome panoramic views in the view ponta available as you climb (hills and stairs). It’s worth the healthy and long climb but the place where the actual Liberty Statue is, in the very top of the hill, is closed off with a fence all around it. People walk around it by holding on the the fence and risking their lives. Not for the faint of heart but if you like living dangerously, by all means do it :)
Ana Silva — Google review
ITS CLOSED
So you can still get near the top but the site is under construction.
At the top there is a cafe with plastic tables, it’s not a restaurant and you can follow the footpath to a series of view points. You can still get a great view but you will be disappointed if you want to get to see the statue. It takes about 20 mins uphill walk, or we went by scooter. There is a scooter park at the top by the cafe. But be warned many of the scooters are out of battery at this stage.
Jake Miller — Google review
What a great place and a great view. While walking up the hill, there was a park in between where kids were playing. There were very nice sitting areas with a great view. The view was just mesmerizing. However, these days the statue of liberty is closed but you can still go till the top and enjoy the great view.
Sarah Waheed — Google review
Still closed, the closest you can get being the steps. The climb is short but steep, better late evening. The view is incredible though, some places it all looks unkept, worth going though.
The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a large, ornate market hall that is full of stalls selling food and souvenirs. It's a great place to explore and buy local products, and there's always lots of activity going on here. The walkthrough tour is very informative, giving you a good look at the building's history as well as insights into the food stalls.
What a great market ! A mixture of true Hungarian foods such as salami’s , sausages and fruit & veg stalls . Heaps of stores selling the best of Hungarian Paprika. Up stairs is more tourist gifts etc and traditional Hungarian food stalls . A not to miss when in Budapest!
Nifty Mac (Niftymac) — Google review
A beautiful and large market, intended for visiting tourists. The place is clean, tidy. On the first floor there are lots of stalls selling meat / sausage and stalls selling mainly paprika souvenirs. On the second floor lots of amazing and unique souvenirs as well as fast and delicious food stalls.
The place is worth a visit.
experience.

This interesting market is located at one end of Elizabeth Bridge. The building is fairly ornate, especially the roof.
It is built on two levels - the ground floor features fresh food in all its guises and the second floor features clothes, leather goods and lots more!
On the second floor there is also a fast food court featuring authentic street food - well recommended for a bite to eat.
You'll find souvenirs here will be much cheaper than the shops.
Definitely worth a visit.
Neil Broadhurst — Google review
A great shopping area with much of joy and tasty bakery products. I enjoyed their special Hungarian cake and cookies. I loved the place, it’s just by the Danube river where you can take the cruise to explore the city and see the popular landmarks such as the citadel and the bridges.
Ahmed Reda Donia — Google review
Impressive building with an amazing range of local products, souvenirs and foods to try. Great to walk around, shop and eat typical things like Langos! I bought Hungarian sausage and Paprika! Bear in mind some stalls in the centre sell the exact same products than other stalls in the back / corners for a higher price.
Caterina Bassano — Google review
The market hall has 3 levels and is really huge. Everyone will find something for themselves here, we have delicious Hungarian dishes, many different souvenirs, spices, Hungarian sausages, sweets and clothes. Definitely everyone who is in Budapest should visit this wonderful place!
Michał Kiełczyński — Google review
It's a nice place to visit. Aside from selling local foods, there are plenty of stores selling all sorts of souvenirs with prices on average better than on Vaci street.
Quite a few dining options but it can get busy during lunch time so I recommend avoiding that time.
Shelby Chong — Google review
This place was amazing!! Wonderful smells, terrific people, excellent food and the place is huge..... Sausage, meat, goulash and music. Guy played excellent music on a violin while we ate. This is a must when traveling to Budapest. Stop by the huge green bridge next door going over the Danube!!!!! We loved it here and the locals that was very kind...... Safe travels..............100% a must stop for any culture.

Interesting place, many shops lot of variety as for example: Grocery, Butche shops, local food bistro, souvenirs. Nice architectural. I do recommend visiting. Keep in mind that although the Central Market is opening early in the morning, starting 6 AM, only few shops are available that time. Most of them are opening later than 9.
Robert Voicu — Google review
Large market in Central Budapest selling food, linen and souvenirs. There are some eateries on the top floor but the number is limited. The market has wide aisles and is very clean. There is that wonderful smell of smoked meat. The other floors are accessible by escalator but you need to search for them.
Andrew Long — Google review
My husband and I are big foodies - so naturally, we loved it!!! Most of the people working there know English so they can explain the differences between products and help you make the right choice.
Also, if you're getting tired of bringing back the souvenirs in the form of magnets, this is where you'll get everything done! A bag of sweet, smoked paprika, goulash paste, salami... you can truly bring a taste of Hungary back home to share the experience with friends and family.
Tamara Biljman — Google review
Impressive place. The building itself is gorgeous! It is a huge place with an organized market. It has everything. On the second floor it has street food and a lot of souvenirs. it is definitely worth visiting the place.

I liked this place, it’s a beautiful large indoor market with plenty options. If you love fresh goods, people watching, shopping, photo opportunities, or just sightseeing in amazing places, you will enjoy visiting the Great Market Hall.
The downstairs is primarily groceries, and it is a good place to buy some goodies to take home, like paprika! I recommend it for buying souvenirs, it’s a lot cheaper than other places and duty free.
The upstairs is half food court and half vendors selling local goods including fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, hot foods.
No matter if it rains or shines, the Great Market Hall is a great option, and definitely one of the top Budapest attractions!
Irina Catescu — Google review
Lots of meat, vegetables, fruits, spices, etc you can buy here at ground floor. At 1sr floor there are some restaurant where you can eat traditional Hungarian dishes. It was reasonable and so tasty. There are also many souvenir shop where you can find the wonderful present to your friend. You should not miss coming to the Central market hall when you come to Budapest. I’m sure you will be able to spend wonderful time here. Highly recommended.

An extremely beautiful market in Budapest.
Definitely a must visit for any tourist, especially to understand the culture better.
There is an area serving authentic Hungarian food - that was truly an experience I enjoyed. Don't forget to try the spicy Paprika and the Goulash. Incredible stuff.
Docs On Vacay — Google review
Worth a visit if you need souvenirs or wanna check out for local market products. Lots of butchers, vegetable stands but most of all souvenirs, so that I am not sure how much it ist still been loved my local Hungarians. But they have a cute restaurant where you can try local dishes, listen to some live music and relax before or after discovering Budapest by feet. The building is nice, but “nicest market hall Europe”- nope ;-)
Conny fromBerlin — Google review
It is a great place to buy a lot of daily needs. Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Meat are all available. A wide variety of products are available. Fresh fish is also available at the basement of the market. It is a popular destination for the tourists and there are several different varieties of souvenirs available. Best time to visit is on Fridays and Saturdays.
Sai Kiran — Google review
Great place to visit, especially for souvenirs, a good place to taste the traditional Hungarian sausage which is delicious! The market is huge, it resembles a train station - you can buy everything from fruit and vegetables to dairy and traditional meat products, spices, handwork and many souvenirs. You can buy sachets with Hungaria's traditional spice - paprika (both hot and mild) and matching wooden spoons, traditional folk costumes or wooden doll cases. It is a must if you visit Budapest!
Maria Mona Nămoloiu — Google review
Excellent building with a great amount of space. First floor is excellent for getting your day to day items, and the second floor has a ton of food items, gifts, household goods, and some clothing/purses/etc. The top floor, during peak times, can get VERY claustrophobic as the isles aren’t very wide and they’re lined on both sides with stalls and shops. The place seems very clean, but there’s no heat, so come prepared.
Elizabeth Menefee — Google review
Amazing building inside and out, more sausages than you can believe and a statue of a man holding an egg...whats not to love. The place to get your souvenirs and fridge magnets. Pretty busy on our visit but a nice place to while away an hour.
David Smith — Google review
Definitely worth a visit or two while in Budapest. The downstairs is primarily groceries, and it is a good place to buy some goodies to take home, like paprika! The upstairs is half food court and half vendors selling local goods. I bought a few souvenirs here. The food hall has great Hungarian options.
Jacqueline Stephen — Google review
Large indoor market with plenty on offer. Fresh fruit, vegetables, meat. Local Hungarian wines, spices and sauces including paprika. Fridge magnets, souvenirs and jewellery. Also hot food. Recommend for buying souvenirs~ it's a lot cheaper than other places and duty free
Felix T — Google review
Plenty of choice for local and national Hungarian food. Great location near the river with typically fabulous public transport to the door.
Upstairs, you will find every conceivable tourist item available to buy, if that's your thing.
Overall, not too bad a visit.
Neil Littleales — Google review
Look, I’m pretty too the point I’m not going to glorify this market because it’s in a city I’ve never been. To me, it’s a tourist trap. Full of things I’ll just never need. Most of the items are overpriced. I won’t sell you the line of “it’s a must see attraction” because it’s not. There is lots of fruit and meat stalls here. Spices, t shirts, magnets etc etc. we had chocolate and smoothies here. On the top level they have a little food court area, lots of people around so I found it overwhelming. Nobody hassles you to buy items, that’s the good thing or runs after you for money like most tourist trap places. When you first enter the market there is a dark curtain you’ve to push over like your entering somewhere you shouldn’t be or something, I don’t think that’s needed now 😅 I nearly knocked myself out the thing was so heavy. Perhaps it’s good to pass time, pass some hours by looking at everything. For me I was bored after 15 minutes and wanted to explore.
M L — Google review
The local market for food and traditional items remains vibrant. As a tourist there are Local artisans and craftsmen handmade goods such as textiles, and handicrafts available. overall different experience.
Dinto P Sukumaran — Google review
The souvenirs are definitely geared towards the tourists..there are numerous sellers of paprika everywhere. As a market it feels somewhat authentic, but like all central markets in cities, they make the money from the tourists, with a handful of real stalls for the locals. Worth a visit for sure! But don't expect to get a deal.
Michael Kelly — Google review
The expansive three-level market hall is a treasure trove for visitors, offering a wide array of delights—from mouthwatering Hungarian dishes and spices to unique souvenirs, sausages, sweets, and clothing. A must-visit spot in Budapest, catering to diverse tastes and interests, ensuring a delightful experience for all.
Vishal Kulkarni — Google review
We've got the famous hungarian smoked paprika which smells amazing and very happy with it, as well as a bottle of Tokaji wine which we were going to drink when we get back to the hotel, we were really looking forward to it and very disappointingly we did not like it and it wasn't cheap. We've got some "beluga caviar" as well which we were told no need to be refrigerated and it taste like the real stuff, no it doesnt, so don't fall for that trap. We bought Mangalica sausage which tastes really good and it's good quality but way overpriced. We paid nearly £20 for only 0.258 kg which makes it £80/kg. Friendly sellers but ripping you off.
Krasimira Valkanova — Google review
It's a beautiful place, but wouldn't recommend to buy or eat here as it's really just for tourists.
- A lot of stalls sell exactly same stuffs, and the prices can be very different from each stalls.
- Food court upstairs, the prices are not affordable, you can have better options in the area outside of the market.
- For the non food part upstairs, it's very narrow to walk around and some owners stand on the walk way as the stall is too small when there is people inside.
Not to mention a lot of people just like to stop in the middle of the walk way and chatting.
Overall, it's just for the experience to visit one of the famous places in Budapest, but won't buy or eat anything here as the prices are "tourist price".
Can take good pictures from upstairs.

Inferior architecture compared to the Valencia Mercado Central. More touristy items for sale here as well, but still visited by locals. In terms of food, you will find many regular foods and fewer delicacies (depending on what you prefer). Also visit the cellar (there are stairs here and there).
The imposing St. Stephen's Basilica, built from 1851 to 1905, offers spectacular views of Budapest from its cupola. The building was damaged during World War II, but fortunately most of the mosaics that decorated its walls were saved. This popular attraction is dedicated to Hungary's holy king and the founder of the Hungarian state St. Stephen.
This is very beautiful basilica in center of town. It is one of the postcard image place of Budapest. There is no charge to see the Basilica, it is free of charge but you should give some donation. Also you can go on the top to have a panoramic view which cost you around 10 euro, there is an elevator. There are lots of good restaurant nearby

St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest is a magnificent architectural gem that left me in awe. The basilica's imposing dome, reaching a height of 96 meters, dominates the city's skyline and offers a visual treat for visitors. As I stepped inside, the grandeur of the interior took my breath away. The ornate decorations, intricate carvings, and stunning stained glass windows created a serene and majestic atmosphere.
One of the highlights of my visit was the chance to view the basilica's most precious relic, the mummified right hand of St. Stephen himself, the first king of Hungary. This sacred relic is housed in a beautifully adorned reliquary, and its significance adds a spiritual touch to the basilica's historical importance.
Climbing to the top of the dome was an unforgettable experience. The panoramic views of Budapest from the observation deck were simply breathtaking. I marveled at the stunning architecture of the city, with its iconic landmarks and the sweeping Danube River.
Exploring the basilica's interior was a captivating journey. The intricate details of the statues, altars, and frescoes were a testament to the skill and artistry of the craftsmen. I enjoyed wandering through the various chapels, admiring the beautiful artwork and feeling a sense of peace and tranquility.
Overall, my visit to St. Stephen's Basilica was an absolute delight. The impressive dome, the sacred relic, the awe-inspiring views, and the opportunity to explore its magnificent interior made it an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend adding this architectural masterpiece to your itinerary when visiting Budapest.

ST. STEPHEN'S BASILICA
It is named in honor of Stephen, the first King of Hungary (c. 975–1038), whose right hand is preserved in the reliquary. The basilica features a Greek cross ground plan. While we didn't visit the interior of the church, we purchased tickets from the ticket office located across from the right side of the church and ascended to the exterior balcony encircling the church's dome, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding city. The steps to reach there are quite a few, but the experience is truly rewarding, especially as you reach the vast area beneath the external dome, where you can glimpse the interior dome of the church.
Orestis - — Google review
Such a stunning building. The ticket office is just off to the side. Expect to queue to buy your ticket. We bought the combined ticket which I recommend so you can get the fantastic views from the top. There are lifts to each part but you will have to climb a few stairs regardless. One of the most interesting things was St Stephen's hand kept in a case.
Coralie Pattenden — Google review
For sure, it is one of the most impressive buildings in Budapest and Europe. The outside is beautifully lightened during the night, and the details of its facade can be viewed during the daytime. In December, you'll also have the chance to visit one of Europe's most astonishing Christmas markets here. The inside is also a strong recommendation for all tourists. Usually, prices and waiting times are okay if you're not visiting during prime season.
Stephan Wagener — Google review
Beautiful by day, beautiful by night. It's well worth paying to see the panoramic view, especially the sunset.
To go up, you have the option of a lift (there are two - with a long queue) and stairs. Be aware that there are a LOT of stairs and spiral staircases. Be prepared 🏋🏻♀️
Nathasha Alves — Google review
Got the ticket for inside the church, treasury and terrace dome. The Full ticket is definitely worth it, inside is amazing and the terrace views are second to none on this side of the river. The treasury is less impressive and can be missed imo.. There's 307 steps and Further steps at the top so not suitable if you can't climb the steps

Absolute Empfehlung!

It is the most beautiful basilica I have seen so far. The red marble on the walls combined with gold looks incredible! The altar and the ceiling painting are beautiful. The best thing to do is find a chair and admire everything from there. Tickets can be purchased online or in an adjacent building. There are discounts for seniors and children. Absolute recommendation!

St. Stephen's Basilica, a masterpiece of architecture and spirituality, graces Budapest with its neoclassical beauty. It is as beautiful from the outside as it is from the inside. The soaring columns and mosaic-adorned domes inside look truly gorgeous. Don't miss the panoramic lookout offering stunning city views.

One of the Budapest must visits. Come early as it's very busy here. I suggest getting the rooftop combo package.
A striking basilica from outside, it's a great photo opportunity. Inside is mind blowing. Such beautiful and reverence. A true blessing to the almighty creator.
There are roped off spots for quiet prayer and reflection. Please take your hat off indoors. A group of Chinese tourists unfortunately showed a lack of respect by refusing to do so.
The treasure room is interesting with luxurious and historical relics from previous bishops.
The rooftop had great views on rainy or sunny days. It's worth the extra effort. You can take the lazy elevator or take the stairs like I did.
Combined ticket is 3500HUF or free for teachers

What an beautiful Basilica! We purchased tickets to hear Ave Maria and the acoustics were excellent. Take the time to wander around inside and see the art and altars. This is a functioning church so act accordingly. The Christmas fair outside is well done and had a lot to offer (much more than Vienna). This is on stop you should not miss.

Indeed, a treat for the eyes. St Istvan’s (Stephen’s) Basilica is one of the best architectures of Budapest. Although we didn’t get a chance to enter inside Basilica, we were delighted by the minute details of the arts engraved on the exterior walls.
I am looking forward to visit the church again so that I can get a chance to enter and enjoy the panoramic view of Budapest from its terrace.
Krishanu Chakraborty — Google review
It's not a place to pray for free. The Basilica and its grandeur come with a price: 6,000 HUF. The church hall at a lower fee is worth the money, I think, unless you want to see the surrounding view at the top. The Treasury is composed of very ornate robes, monstrances, and paintings. Going down the spiral steps is not for the faint-hearted or weak knees. 4-man lift is available, but the queue is long. The view at the top of the dome is breathtaking. However, there's no need to pay this extra fee if you've already gone on the Budapest Eye. The church hall is impressive and quite popular with weddings. Its decor is breathtaking, and as with all Basilicas, it gives you that feeling that God actually resides there. If you want to light a candle, make sure you have the right coins as the paying boxes do not provide other methods of payment.

The place at the time of visit was crowded, but still had the time and space for observing and appreciating the architecture. It is of great historical importance to the people. There was a service going on but the experience was wonderful especially the amazing sounds from the pianoforte. Highly recommended.

Lovely Basilica. The center of the city. Extravagant interiors but nothing different than say, St Peter's Basilica in Rome which is FREE. If you feel like giving a forced donation by buying a ticket, please do make the pope happy!
I loved getting the free (voluntary tipping) walking tour with the guy in the red umbrella everyday at 11 am - i tipped as much as the entrance and was the best introduction to Budapest for 2.5 hours.
andraci Avenue just behind it is fantastic to walk.

A beautiful basilica, we really enjoyed our visit there. This is the largest church in Budapest. To access the dome, you can use 364 steps or the elevator, and this offers amazing views. The entrance is approximately £10 pp.

Really nice place.
If you want to go in , you need to buy a ticket from the ticket office next to the church.
There is 2 different tickets
Either just church or church and viewing gallery.
The viewing gallery has a lift ( actually 2 ) to get up and down or if your daft as a brush. You can use the stairs.

The view from the panoramic terrace is definitely worth the price of admission! You can see the entire city skyline from atop the basilica. I also saw the treasury, which had some very nice art, statues, and various Catholic accoutrements. The basilica itself has some beautiful architecture, finely detailed with statues of many saints and religious figures. I would say that anyone would find this place interesting. If you are a fan of architecture, history, or religion, it's a must-see.

Stephen's Basilica is already very impressive from the outside, and it's even more impressive inside! The size of the basilica is huge and interiors are very richly decorated. It's worth buying a ticket with entry to the Panoramic Terraces, because the view of the city from above is beautiful!

If you're visiting Budapest, the Basilica is an absolute must-see. This stunning architectural marvel is not just a feast for the eyes but also offers an enriching cultural experience. The highlight for many visitors, including myself, is the organ concert held at 5 PM. The acoustics of the Basilica paired with the skilled organist create an unforgettable auditory experience that resonates deeply within the grand walls of this sacred space. Whether you're an architecture enthusiast, a lover of classical music, or simply seeking a serene and beautiful place to reflect, the Basilica in Budapest will not disappoint. I highly recommend scheduling your visit to coincide with the organ concert for an experience that is truly sublime.

Yeah I don't get why you'd need to pay a few to enter a place of worship.
Having said that, the fee paid is peanuts compared to the Jewish place not too far away, which is absolutely ridiculous.
Nevertheless, back to this Basilica.
I was impressed by the architecture and design. Truly amazing.

I’ve been traveling around Central Europe for the past 2 weeks and I’ve not seen a queue this long to purchase entry tickets to a cathedral. Attempted to purchase tickets online but somehow the website wasn’t working so I returned the next morning before the crowd. Just simply amazing, probably the most grandeur thing in the city of Budapest.

It was an amazing experience the building itself was absolutely magnificent and the architecture humbles you. The inner section of the church takes you back in the era of kings and kingdoms and the artwork was truly something else. Last but not least the view on the floor is awe-inspiring I was left stunned from you could all of Budapest.

Spectacular church, opulent from every angle. It is certainly worth a visit while in Budapest. The treasury is a little disappointing as it's very small..the view from the tower is impressive. Expect to take some 145 steps. However there is a lift (and toilets mid way up).
Like St Peters in Rome it is a masterclass in craftsmanship, and work that can be enjoyed by any regardless of faith.
A certainty for a visit while in Budapest.

We were so tired of walking all day and at the end we were almost not gonna enter here and skip it but it just made me forget all the fatigue I had. It was breathtakingly beautiful! The Dohany Street Synagogue is the largest synagogue in Europe and one of the largest in the world. It was designed by a Viennese architect, Ludwig Forster, and features Moorish Revival architecture with Byzantine, Romantic and Gothic elements. The synagogue was heavily bombed during World War II, but was renovated beautifully during the 1990s. It can seat up to 3,000 people inside.
A very ornate Jewish church. After buying the ticket, there is an English guide tour to explain the history of the Jews and their habits in daily life. It was very interesting.
In addition, there are cemeteries, exhibitions, and museums to visit.

The jewel in the Crown is obviously the main Synagogue, but don't miss the smaller Synagogue (used in Winter months for energy conservation), The Museum (objects relating to religious and everyday life) and another exhibition of the Budapest Ghetto 1944/45.
At the North End, before the exit gate, stop to see the Holocaust Tree of Life Memorial.
Easy to spend a couple of hours here and totally worth the entry fee.

The stunning architecture, rich history, and serene atmosphere create an unforgettable experience. The staff's warmth and informative tours make every visit enjoyable. A must-see destination that beautifully encapsulates the city's cultural and spiritual heritage.

Was surprised by the presence of a synagogue, and it's supposed to be Europe's largest. As I stepped in, I was wowed by the intricacies of the architecture. It's so different. Something Jewish in European shore. Very precious and rare. A must-see. You entered into a different world in time past. Then there's a mass grave commemorating a part of the 6 million that was killed. There was a tree with metal leaves with names carved on each. Wow!
There is a museum upstairs. Very educational for those who are not familiar with Jewish culture. The exhibits enlightened me on some of the things I read in the Old Testament.

Spectacular both inside and out. The guide on the English-language tour was witty and informative. After the tour we visited the interesting exhibition on anti-Semitism in Hungary and the impressive and well displayed objects in the museum.

Stopped by on a whim after seeing this gorgeous building and deciding we wanted to see the inside too. Tickets were around £16 each, which includes a free guided tour that sets off every half an hour and entrance to the synagogue, gardens, museum, and an exhibition. The interior of the synagogue is unusual and beautiful and our tour guide was very personable and knowledgeable. The museum was informative and well designed, and the exhibition was gut-wrenching. Definitely worth a 1-2hr visit to see the beautiful interior and to gain an understanding of the history of Budapest's Jewish community.

We spent about an hour and a half here and it was incredible enlightening, as well as a beautiful opportunity to see such a unique space. The tour is a great opportunity that I would recommend taking advantage of while there - it was about 30 minutes long but they walked us through the whole complex and briefly talked about everything to just give us enough information to fully understand what the Synagogue means to the community. Learned a lot and was able to go into the museum and other parts of the space with good background information.

This place is impressive. There is also a free guided tour done by some volunteers which sheds light on the synagogue and its history.
There are several exhibitions about the history of Jewish in Budapest which are really moving. It's really worth the visit and the cost.

The biggest one in europ and second largest in the world. A lot of history and local tours on many lanquages . It can be busy and it has toilets too. Price 25 euros you can get ticket there or online. Tickets are too high for the offering but worth seeing

Very moving experience, I definitely recommend to attend a guided tour, as the whole history of this place is something to be remembered and known. Tour is included in the ticket, but it starts at a specific time, so sometimes you have to wait a little. The ticket also includes entrance to some other exhibitions within the area.

I don't know what I can say that others haven't said. This synagogue is magnificent and you must go there when you're in Budapest. Even if you're not Jewish, this synagogue is breathtaking and moving and will have you under its spell. It is serene inside and you can't help but marvel at the gorgeous details in every single feature of the interior.
There's the main synagogue and a smaller one that is used in winter, and out the back is a cute little garden area with a Holocaust Tree of Life Memorial monument that is stunning too (if that's the right word to use). You can wander around on your own, or take tours that are led in various languages. To be honest, we did our own thing, but I now wish I'd taken a guided tour. I hope to go again, so if I do, this is what I'd choose.
Yes, it's a little overpriced, but it's "mandatory" to visit here when visiting this great city. I'm willing to bet this old, magnificent shule (the biggest in Europe) is probably the most beautiful in the world and you can easily spend a good solid hour or two looking around and taking in the grandeur of it all. I highly recommend it.

Dohány Street Synagogue has done a nice job of memorializing the Jewish victims of the Holocaust in Budapest. The brief description of the Synagogue given by the tour guide was informative and helpful. It was very short, however the wait for it to start was long as we had just missed the previous English tour. The art work in the Synagogue itself is beautiful. The Memorial areas outside are well done.
Debra Shoopman — Google review
Beautiful synagogue with a unique style that has many influences. The guided tour is very interesting and available in numerous languages. Included in the entry ticket is access to a second adjacent synagogue, an exhibition on the history of the Hebrew community of Budapest and a museum.
A cap is provided at the entrance to men, but if you are bald or have a buzz cut remember to bring something to cover your head with because the paper cap will be useless.

Beautiful Synagogue well worth a visit. Before you enter, you have to go through the airport type security . There is also a strict dress code you need to abide by. If you are not dressed in accordance with the dress code, you can buy a blue gown to wear . Men also need to wear some type of head covering while in the Synagogue itself. Once in, you can really appreciate the beauty of the building and other areas of the grounds.

What an incredibly beautiful synagogue. We loved seeing the inside of the temple. We went to the museum and saw the cementary, it is heart wrenching to see the photos and read the history of what these people went through. It doesn't matter how well you know it, how many movies you have seen, it still makes me physically ill every time I think about it. Please visit this site and really think about all these things. The better we know history, the less likely we are to repeat it.

Highly recommended a visit to this synagogue. Second biggest in the world. The admission fee is quite pricey compared with the basilica but the synagogue is much better value. You can buy your tickets at the entrance but be mindful of the dress code. We had an excellent knowledgeable guide take us round the synagogue, the remembrance garden and the tree outside. There is also a museum explaining the Budapest holocaust.

A very impressive place in the Jewish Quarter, the most exciting and hipster district in the city. The district was a Jewish ghetto during the Second World War, victims of the war were placed in the garden of the synagogue, today the garden is a cemetery and memorial. In the basement of the synagogue there is a museum commemorating the time of the Second World War and its victims, exciting, frightening and alarming!
In the adjacent building there is a Hungarian-Jewish museum with a lot of exciting information about Judaism.
In the synagogue itself there are various meeting points for different languages and free guided tours from there.
The entrance fee is almost €25, but you can spend a lot of time here and take in the place.

The Great Synagogue is a gorgeous monument with beautifully preserved interiors. The attached Jewish Museum is small, but full of interesting exhibits. Afterwards, walk into the grounds, visit the mass grave memorial and the museum that chronicles the history of Budapest’s Jewish community, including the horrors of the Holocaust. It’s dark, disturbing but needs to be remembered. Everything is very well labelled in English.
The Hungarian State Opera House is a Neo-Renaissance building that is considered to be amongst the best in the world when it comes to its acoustic properties. The opera house also houses tours of its gorgeous architecture, as well as performances of world-class caliber.
We came last minute and bought the standing ‘seats’ for 1500 each. Decent view and there is a bench to lean against. Opera Building is absolutely beautiful, I believe it has had a recent renovation.
We saw Bach, which was expertly presented although the piece was not to my taste.
Well worth the visit, and also easy bough to leave early if standing becomes too uncomfortable.

Amazing building, newly refurbished and the effort that went into it really shows!
The acoustics is simply great, the seats are very comfortable and the air conditioning provides an optimal temperature. I'm shocked that I've seen Wagner's Gotterdammerung which is close to five hours and left the hall feeling refreshed rather than tired.
Of course this is reflected in the ticket price, but, seriously this is a competitor in the best halls I've ever been to, so it's understandable. I should mention the staff are an awesome bunch of guys, very helpful and non intrusive, I only got my ticket checked at entry.
I would recommend this place for any performance because it gives you the opportunity to take some great pics inside and have the joy of listening to a great sound.

Unfortunately I could not get tickets for the opera performance since everything is sold out for the nearest dates. At least I found out that they provide guided tours in a few languages. The ticket price is 9000 forint, you can book it on their website or buy it there. I really enjoyed our tour the duration of which was 1 hour. The guide was friendly and she shared lots of stories about the Opera House establishment and history. And the building itself is majestic inside 😍

Take a tour, enjoy this wonderful small opera house with lots of historical information and, with a little luck, watch a new stage design being set up. It's 25$/23€ and well worth it, with a little performance included. Also do watch a play. Best to book or get your tickets WELL in advance. Otherwise you'll only be able to get in line an hour before the performance and get, very comfortable, standing room only assigned "seats" for a very reasonable $4,50/4€. It's a wonderful experience. Unfortunately I can't post the coming operas information and the videos of the wonderful interior and impromptu performances.

Absolutely stunning place. The interior is elaborate and exceptionally well finished. It was a pleasure to spend an evening in such a beautiful place regardless of your musical preferences. You can have a drink on the terrace overlooking the main street. The staff were helpful, professional and multi-lingual.

If you are a traveler who couldn't book a seat, you can go to the ticket office on the right side of the 0th floor at 5 p.m
You can reserve opera seats and standing seats on Hungarian National Opera Home Page site.
Standing seats are held at 5 p.m.
In other words, you can book standing seats at 5 p.m. online and offline at the same time.
Standing seats can only hang a hip over a seat.
The concert space is half visible, and the orchestra is half visible
Five dollars is enough to feel the feeling and emotion of the opera, and you will thank me.
You will feel the best luck in your trip to Budapest.
That's how cool it is.

Review contains useful advice! ⭐️⭐️
100% recommend. Tickets were 9000 HUF per person and they have tours available in English, Spanish, French, German, Hungarian (choosing Hungarian makes the tour 5000 HUF I believe) and I think also Italian. The tour guide was amazing. The tour was very engaging, NOT filled with boring facts but rather learning through actually useful information and funny jokes.
⭐️⭐️ At the end of the tour there was a 10 min performance. I recommend trying to grab a seat on the stairs or a view in the middle. We were on the right side and the singing was not heard as well because of the speakers.
⭐️⭐️As I remember, the box with all four seats is around €160 so if you plan on going to opera make sure to bring something glamorous like a tuxedo/dress as to not stand out and look like a local 😂

When I came to Budapest two years ago, the Opera was not opened to the public due to renovation. Finally, I took a visit to the magnificent building this time. It deserved a two-year waiting any way. The only minor bug was that the guide in this Opera cannot speak English fluently and was not friendly, either.

My sister bought two tickets as a surprise on hour first night staying in Budapest. It was definitely a ‘must’ when you’re there. Both the architecture and the atmosphere were breathtaking! Everyone except a few tourists were following the dress code. That’s why, we were also dressed elegantly for that night. The symphony orchestra’s performance took two hours excluding the half an hour break. I strongly suggest to experience this environment then you go to Budapest!

Beautiful building both outside and inside. We got to find tickets online for half the regular price and they were the best invested 6 EUR of my life. My seats were on the third floor, but the visibility was remarkable considering the actual distance. I really enjoyed the ballet and the wine during the two intermissions.

The Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest is a stunning venue that offers both guided tours and performances for a fee. Stepping inside, you're greeted by its grandeur and beauty, with marble columns and crystal chandeliers creating a magical atmosphere. Whether you're exploring with a guide or attending a show, it's a must-visit for anyone interested in experiencing Budapest's rich cultural heritage firsthand. I suggest to visit it by night as is much more charming.

We did the opera tour, and it was awesome. They take you through several areas and rooms throughout the building and explain their purpose, history, and artwork/decoration. They then lead you to the balcony section, and eventually to the main seating area. Then they finish it all off with a mini performance from some of their artists. It was a great experience, and we highly recommend.

the free area at the opera house is already so breathtakingly beautiful and i cannot imagine what the paid tour would be like! the patterns, angles and geometries are fantastic. Really could spend some time looking through the details.

Free to go in the entrance. The paid English tour was interesting and shows areas you wouldn’t see during a performance and learn about the history and architecture choices. Absolutely beautiful

BEWARE: if you are going to a performance, BE ON TIME. They don’t let you in even if you arrive 6 minutes late (like I did). You can enter when the break is happening.
If you are on a budget and would still want to experience a performance of one of the best operas in the world, go to the office 2 hours before the show and buy a ‘standing ticket’ for only 5€. You have cushions tu lean on. But being standing up is worth it.
If you don’t want to feel excluded, wear something nice, opera-nice. But still you can attend with jeans and shirt, as I did.

The House of Terror is a museum in Hungary documenting the effect of Nazi and Soviet regimes on Hungary and the victims. It includes a permanent exhibit about crimes and atrocities committed by both regimes.
Moving, superbly setup museum on a tough topic.
Small museum but extremely well setup for visitors with audio guides in most languages that automatically trigger as you enter a given room. This was a killer feature that made the visit even more easy to traverse.
Extremely inexpensive and well maintained. Man’s inhumanity to man is well documented and movingly portrayed.
I wish every museum was so well setup. One can spend 3 hours at the museum easily to do it justice.

This museum is absolutely critical to educate both Hungarians and tourists on the horrors of communism and totalitarianism in the country.
The stories, images and artifacts remind us all the value of democracy and how fragile it is, and the high cost we all pay when we lose it.
My rating was mostly due to the lack of opportunity to present a more forceful and impactful message, most messages were in the form of videos with Hungarian audio, poor or no English signage made the message dissipate.
I hope it is remodeled to create a better impact and easier for the international audience to absorb.

My 10 year old son, and I visited. We did the audio tour which was a bit too detailed and long-winded. We skipped some of the sections, but it was still very informative. The best part is at the end in the basement. We checked our backpacks in the luggage storage, and it worked very well.

Me and my brother (USA, 18 and 19) spent 2.5 hours here. We did not get the audio guide. Like other reviews - the staff is at the very least NOT friendly. It cost us $23.49 USD for 2 of us - full price tickets (they do not have student discounts for students with citizenship outside the EU area). Almost everything is written in Hungarian, so consider the audio guide IF 1. you have more time or 2. You really like learning /history. There was enough details for us from the many many videos with English subtitles and the one pager descriptions in about half of the rooms. Overall we learned about a side of history barely taught in American classrooms and so I find this to be a MUST VISIT, even with all the negatives. We came in at 10:10 and had to wait 10 minutes in a line to buy tickets. When we exited around 12:45 there was a pretty long line stretching outside the building (probably 20-30 minute wait).

Its difficult to describe a visit to this museum as enjoyable given its focus. But, if you want to learn about the recent history of Hungary, this is a good place to start. We took the audio guide as we were unsure how much would be in English. Turned out that there are A4 sized cards on the wall in each exhibit/room in English you can take out and read. We still enjoyed having the audio guide. My teenager particularly found this museum fascinating. She listened to every bit of the audio guide and read absolutely every piece of information in here she could find. We spent several hours here having a break for lunch. Even if you haven't much time, a walk round over an hour or so will give you a good taste of what is in this museum & if you are an English speaker, the A4 info cards will be sufficient for you to grasp each exhibit. Some of the old videos displayed recounting this time period are harrowing & a sobering reminder of such recent history.

A good first stop to a trip to Budapest as it helps you understand what Hungary went through and how it relates to some of the other common tourist attractions.
The audio guide is a must for English speakers, without it you only have paper pamphlets in certain rooms.
I took off a star because of the whole set up. The music was way too intense in one of the first rooms while I was trying to watch the video. The interviews on the wall are also a bit confusing, one would play and then it switches to another screen and then back.

Not a very enjoyable museum due to the nature of its content but a must visit in order to understand and learn form one of the darkest periods of our time. The exhibitions are very well curated, the atmosphere of each room really takes you into the topic they are showing. The rooms are impresione and also very interactive. I would recommend to go early in the day to avoid the many visitors it gets and to buy the audioguide.

First of all the reason I'm knocking a star off is because the staff are so unfriendly and you aren't supposed to take pictures.. I have no idea why that would be though. Otherwise, it's good value for money, educational, and a really interesting place.

A decent place to go if you have an extra day at Budapest. Don't reserve your day specially for visiting this.
It is about the history of world war but feels like it's just one side of story (which is totally understandable).
The audio guide is recommended, and the entry fee is 10 Euro. It takes around 1.5 hour for the full tour.
Taking pictures inside is not allowed.

When visiting Budapest, the House of Terror should definitely be visited and enriches the city trip. In general, this museum shows the time of Budapest/Hungary under National Socialism and the time under Communism. The museum illustrates well how two very different political directions nevertheless intersect in their cruelty. Admission is fine. I would really recommend an audio guide, as there is a lot of information in it and it can be relatively uninteresting without one. I would also recommend visiting at weekends when there are no school groups. There are lockers in the museum for storing valuables. Inside it was very very humid and warm - I would take water with me.
Martin — Google review
I give only 3 stars because the real goldmine of information, documents, images and exhibits is very, very badly organised.
The itinerary of the visit is not clearly explained, and one can deduce it only if he knows the history and the events (I did it, but not the same for several visitors, who were wandering inside the venues with no clue of what to see first).
The volume of propaganda music and speeches was so loud to overwhelm the audio guide explanations.
The captions - when available...- were often only in Hungarian.
The wardens spoke NO English at all.
Finally, few places to sit.
A real pity.
Gianluca Manfredelli — Google review
This was a sobering exposé of atrocities in the post WW2 and Soviet occupation era. It was a thorough and well documented timeline showing the impact to the daily lives of ordinary citizens caught in the crosshairs of war. The only criticisms are that the museum would itself become another terror in the event of a fire, given the overcrowding of visitors, close quarters and unlabeled fire exits. The English audio guide also portrayed the Hungarian politicians as being forced unwillingly into choosing sides in WW2 due to being squeezed between Germany and Russia, with no mention of their aspirations to retake land lost after WW1.
John Miller — Google review
The climate in this place is just amazing. So good idea to create this that much scary. The things presented are just facts. There's a lot of videos. Don't take the audio guide as this does not help you to focus on what you see or watch. On the other hand it works just terrible. Sometimes switches automatically (mostly in the rooms with videos) where in quiet rooms without and texts doesn't work and you need to turn on manually. I have found it rather disturbing after just 5 minutes. The organization is half good. That means you start 2nd floor and follow the arrows until 1st floor. Then the access to the basement is something you need to figure out on your own also with direction.
Krzysztof Sucharski — Google review
Interesting museum about the history of Hungary and the past of the Soviet regime. It can be abit abstract at times and some exhibits have no English descriptions. The exhibit is not that big and can be finished in about 30-45 minutes. The sentiment of the museum is good as you can see the real building and place of the atrocities, but it is not very educational. Museum tours can block whole rooms and passages for other visitors which is frustrating. Staff are just curt and not friendly.
Nat G — Google review
Should have a lot of stories that show the horrible period in Hungary. The poor arrangement not able to bring up the interest and make visitor boring and sleepy. Basically just script with some videos and throw these information to visitors. Unlike other museum or gallery that they don’t allow any photos taking in this house. I would not recommend to waste time

Lots of bad things happened here in this house, use the audio phone if you want to understand something , everything is in Hungarian, no English next to all infos . We just looked and without understanding anything went out 😊but could feel the terror . Maybe I will understand what I saw when I read the book I bought in the museumshop.
Artin Seropian — Google review
Visiting the museum is only comprehensible with audio guides; without them, you're left bewildered (especially if you do not understand Hungarian). While the atmosphere is great (and the overall setup), it's overshadowed by the lack of English explanations for tourists, leaving them at a disadvantage. Important to mention: No photos allowed.
Tobias Schneider — Google review
The Museum was good, I felt the audio guide is very necessary despite there are some papers with explanations but the info they have are very limited, so in my experience would be more enjoyable and easy to understand if you have an audio guide. The price is 2,000 florins
Henry Zarza — Google review
Pros:
- For a museum about terror, it felt eerie and claustrophobic. The visuals, music and sound all supported the atmosphere.
Cons:
- They use a revisionist history where Hungarians were portrayed as victims of Nazis whereas in reality, they were allies and enthusiastic collaborators (Hungary chose to join the Axis). This museum fits well with Orban and Fidesz’s narrative.
- Almost everything is in Hungarian so you need to get the audio guide. Is the propaganda intended for a domestic audience?
- The gift shop contains more propaganda literature about how wokism or Soros is corrupting the world.

Romanesque looking statues and columns. Huge and stunning. Totally worth a visit and pictures. There added two different museums that are on both sides of the square and the city park is a super short walk from there. Clean and vivid green and having a historical depiction.
I like this place even road views from this square is very beautiful and at the sun set time it was amazing.

Wonderful place , nice pictures you can take, it need 30 minutes and then you can shift to other place. Its near awesome castles by 10 minutes waiting

Im giving this a four star as although the monuments are spectacular, and very akin to Vatican city style pillars that curve, there is a huge square that could be much more vibrant but remains bear. Fisherman's Bastion was much more impressive in my opinion.

Near the museum of Fine Arts Hősök tere (Heroes' Square) is noteworthy for its Millennium Monument with statues featuring the Seven chiefs of the Magyars. Home to political evens and rallies, access by public transportation makes for a quick visit.

I could spend the whole day taking pictures and meeting other tourists at this square alone. But, better still, there's a lovely agricultural park close by with a peaceful flowing river. It's one of the stops (I think #9) on the hop on hop off tour. Budapest generally is a surprisingly great tourist city. Would definitely visit here again.

Huge celebration square built in honor of 1000 years of Hungary. Next to it you can find Metro line M1 which is the oldest metro line build in continental Europe. It is also a part of UNESCO World Heritage.

Excellent spot dedicated to the real Heroes. The area was pretty big in the center of many roads .
Pretty interesting site with some really nice statues. It's an open area and at winter, it was freezing.....

Beautiful and famous square dedicated to Hungarian heroes. Stunning architecture and sculpture and close to the city park. The metro station of the same name where you can get the beautiful M1 is located just opposite the square, so definitely worth a visit when exploring Budapest…

The place was truly magnificent. Though we couldn't enjoy it much because of the extreme heat during midday, but a must visit while in Budapest.

HEROES' SQUARE
The square is located at the far end of Andrassy Avenue, adjacent to City Park, and it stands as one of the prominent squares in Budapest. It's renowned for its iconic Millennium Monument adorned with statues depicting Hungarian national leaders, as well as the Memorial Stone of Heroes, which is often mistakenly referred to as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. On the left and right sides of the square are the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Art. Be cautious, as in Budapest, there are three additional squares named Heroes' Square.
Orestis - — Google review
No tickets needed, free access to the square. Easy access from the Hop on Hop off bus, it stops right by the square. Tip: public bathrooms are available if you are in need 😊. We went through the week, the end of September 2023. There were not too many tourists. Beautiful spot, great sculptures. A must see when in Budapest.

Totally worth it! As you watch the hero's square, on left hand there is the museum of fine arts, it's a waste of time and money... Only a room is Worthing inside the museum and nothing more..

Szentendre Skanzen Village Museum is an open-air museum that offers a glimpse into the traditional village and farming life of 18th to 20th-century Hungary. Located in Szentendre, a charming town on the Danube riverbank just north of Budapest, this museum showcases various Hungarian regions' ways of life, including their dwellings and agricultural practices. The picturesque town itself boasts baroque architecture, colorful houses, cobblestone streets, and delightful confectioneries.
Nice place for a family trip. You will know how Hungarian farmers work and live in the past. You can choose hip on hip off train trip to travel in the village, the train ticket is valid during the day. You can also take a walk and visit any house you want. The handmade cookies, bread, honey can get in the village as well. I like the windmill, looks so cute.

Very nice place close to Budapest (half an hour drive) yet very tranquil and representing an old village of Hungary, where one can learn more about the old ways of living and cultural aspects of the Hungarians. If you don't have the whole day to spend at the site, it's recommended to take a bike from the reception area after getting in, as walking route is quite long.

I wasn't expecting much but this was a great place to go and learn about life in Hungary years ago. We were only there a couple of hours, but you could spend days here. We cooked a little goulash, ate someone elses and had a nice dessert.

Huge open air museum with buildings representative for each region of Hungary. The ticket is not expensive as you can spend hours there. Many beautiful buildings and trails even in the forest. As a foreigner, some parts like the video in Transylvania access gate need subtitles. As a Romanian, the Erdely video is quite imbalanced, which can be understood from the historical perspective and pain for magyars, but does not help for Reconciliation today between our peoples. Erdely part weaker than the rest, new constructions, still big works. For example, Romanians suffered a lot from Ceausescu, communism and the destruction of churches and urban centers, it was not ethnically targeted, more social. Anyway, good museum!

If you speak Hungarian, then you receive a history lesson on so many different aspects of the culture that I was not even aware off. Its a very well organised open museum for all languages , generations and religions . One of the most interesting and interactive that I have been in a long time.

Super nice place to visit to get a bit to know the different parts of Hungary and how people lived in the 19th and 20th century in rural Hungary. There is a nice bakery and a restaurant however I would suggest to bring some sandwiches so you can have a nice little picnic around the large area of the park. Nice playgrounds with fun games for children.

Supposed to be a living historical town, but mostly static displays. Best part was the Hungarian folk music at the restaurant.

Very interesting village which stay in another part of Szentendre. It is a 80ha village with museum, park, and outdoor activities: cycling, trekking, walking. Love a day spend there with a big group. Food from the restaurant is great, professional.

As a positive, I would like to highlight the vast area to explore, numerous eateries, and various tasting options such as linden tea or yellow cheese, etc. Restrooms are easily accessible in many places, so there's no massive queue for them.
Unfortunately, here comes the downside. As negatives, I would point out the following: Firstly, the ticket was initially indicated to be 3000 forints, but due to Easter and the current Easter fair, the ticket price was increased to 4000 HUF. (+1500 for parking) This wouldn't be an issue until the next point: Many buildings were closed off and inaccessible. Upon entering various areas, unfortunately, the atmosphere didn't capture the essence of the depicted era; rather, bored-looking animators tried to avoid tourists so they wouldn't have to engage with people. There were only a few exceptions, particularly in the Romanian section, where there were very kind and active ladies, but not in other areas. In contrast, the fair was small, and lastly, I would note that although the mill house has many exhibited items, it would take about 2 days for a person to read everything. I think a slight improvement is needed in this regard. There were absolutely no animals, and many buildings were not wheelchair accessible. Additionally, there was a section that could be reached, but unfortunately, the elevator wasn't working. So both the elderly and those with strollers had to walk at least 7-800 meters. Last but not least, the train was out of service.
Overall, I recommend the place, but it's advisable to arrive early, and I would recommend it more for those who enjoy walking and for those who are satisfied with just the scenery and don't mind not being able to touch depicted era furniture or tools.

One of my favorite spots in Hungary. A big park with rebuilt Hungarian farms and houses that not only give you a deep impression of the simple life people lived, but also an insight into the challenges. Moreover it’s an ode to artisan skills and an inspiring ramble through history. A truly delightful full day program.

I enjoyed the place. We came a bit late in the afternoon and we were not able to see all, but definitely coming back to see all the beautiful places. So comfortable place to come with big family, many kids and dogs. Everything is well taken cared of
Train drivers were very polite and attentive. They also have the cutest application that makes easier to know where are you and what to visit.
Also I am in love with their museum shop!

Maybe the best Hungarian museum to understand Hungarian history spread across Europe and a detailed account of the origins and sociology of the Magyars.
Truly impressive. Lots of walking. Spread across hundreds of acres. And passionate guides and volunteers who love telling you more.
Extremely impressive and well worth visiting. Kid friendly. Lots of places to eat and good food.

This skanzen is amazing! It is really huge, I recommend to spend all day there. The whole place is divided into different sections and there is a lot to see in each one of them. You can buy a ticket for the local skanzen train and get off in the section you choose. It is possible to buy some small refreshment on several places. There is also a tiny bakery with home made bread which tastes so delicious! If you fancy a proper meal you can try the local restaurant. One of the most stunning spots in the skanzen is Transylvania!
The Royal Palace of Gödöllő is a large baroque palace with period furnishings and historical displays, as well as concerts and events. It is one of the best palaces in Hungary, and its gardens are especially beautiful in autumn.
So so beautiful. Only had one day to be there in Gödöllő but it was more than enough to check out this wonderful castle.
I got a student ticket and a your with two other people. During this your, we got to explore the whole castle, except the places that were getting renovated, at a steady place, allowing us to ask questions, learn cool new facts and take some amazing pictures.
The history of it all is something I absolutely love as Sissi is such an amazing figure and to us Hungarians, she was one of the most amazing queens.
If you're a fan of history or maybe just want to check castles out, it is absolutely worth a visit.
Tamara Kacsala — Google review
We went on a weekday, it was empty. The collection is not that big due to the palace being ransacked during the war. But it's still worth visiting. It's been well-maintained and we enjoyed a quiet time browsing in each room.

I recommend this one day trip if you are staying in Budapest. The Royal Palace of Sissi is a magical place where you can feel the history and the life of the Princess. I expected the gardens to be something more.....flowers, plants, trees, nothing of the sort, maybe it is better in spring/summer time. A couple of rooms were close to the public, for this reason I had a discount and spent only 12€. Nice video at the end of the tour.

The castle is beautiful, but I just stopped, looked at the park and got a fine for unpaid parking 8 €. I missed any English text about the fact that I have to pay something ... I am annoyed because I am a foreigner and the surrounding household nothing ... I paid her to enjoy it locally when I can't do anything in a foreign language.

It was like sitting in a time machine and witnessing Hungarian history closely; Guide was very knowledgeable and she had amazing trivia about everything. And yes, a small souvenir shop too which could enable you to take a small part of the history home as well. Worth all the trouble of coming out of Budapest (that was a smooth and convenient travel too- almost hassle free)

I feel like it's overpriced. I didn't know until the end that pretty much everything was rebuilt/ redesigned. Also, for the price they charge the parking should at least be free.
The grounds are large and beautiful though. That alone makes it a nice getaway.

It's disappointing that the staff at the ticket counter failed to inform us that the relatively expensive temporary exhibit that features a few items and paintings from the famous Schönbrunn Palace is only a mere six small rooms—a ten-minute entertainment top. Weirdly, instead of a security guard, they had a proper uniformed police officer on duty in full gear, sidearm, cuffs, etc., who closely followed us, interacting with our baby girl. It made us slightly uncomfortable—no photos or pushchairs allowed. When I expressed that we were disappointed, they shrugged their shoulders.
Lovely garden, though.

Well... it was restaurated few years ago. Before it was a soviet army base... and looked very sad. I visited it YTD for a concert (it was excellent!). But: the small details are falling parts! Curtains are falling down, the light bulbs in the chandeliers are not working... etc. It could be a fantastic place to visit but it needs much more attention!

Sadly it was ransacked by the Soviet army and most items damaged or stolen. It was interesting to see, but not greatly impressed. It is also undergoing renovation.
Lázár Lovaspark offers a fantastic experience for visitors, featuring excellent food and drink, a carriage drive through the forest, and an exciting horse show. Even non-horse enthusiasts found the visit thoroughly enjoyable. The park showcases Hungary's "cowboy" culture with a captivating horse show presented in Hungarian and German, but with English interpretation available. The friendly staff and spotless facilities add to the appeal of this highly recommended tourist attraction located about an hour from Budapest.
The horses and skills of the riders were incredible. The food and wine was abundant and delicious. The music was festive. Most important, the people were friendly and attentive. We highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Budapest. We will return. Thank you for a memorable evening!

Wonderful experience! As an avid equestrian it's always exciting to learn about different horse cultures. Hungary's "cowboy" culture is one of the oldest and most fascinating! Hollókő Castle, perched on Stalk Hill at 365 meters high, offers a striking view of the surrounding hills. The restored remains of this 13th-century fort feature historic armaments and recreated period rooms. The castle's well-refurbished walls and interiors hold tales of Hungary's past, highlighting its roots and singularities. Legend has it that the name of the castle and village stems from its education.
The view from the castle is amazing. We visited during the week so there weren't too many people around. If you can, it's worth it to walk your way up from the village.

The rebuilt castle of Hollokő embodies history and charm. Its well-refurbished walls and interiors hold tales of the past of Hungary, a country which seeks here positively to highlight its roots and singularities. The name of the castl (and that of the village) comes from the legend of its education. I recommand to visit it in combination with the unesco site next to it, as part of a guided tour.

Sadly, the castle was closed due to the snow the day we went but it was still a nice adventure. It is one of the shorter walks/hikes to this castle than many of the other ones... just 700 meters. Thank you for the experience and the friendly welcome! We had a great time!😊

Really loved this little town. Wine cellars are walking distance from one another so you can easily take the bus from Budapest city.
The wine is really good, with a great tasting selection of red and white. So much more affordable than in the city centre

It is a location with a special vibe. The old wineries inside the mountains give you a feeling of going back in time. If you are a wine drinker and you are traveling around this place you must stop here. The best wine I drank here. you can taste several dishes, talk to the producers and learn the history of the wineries. The tasting price starts from 400ft / 1 dl, and you can buy poured wine starting from the price of 2000ft 2 l bottle.I especially recommend the Kocsis family winery.

If you like wine, this is a must-visit place of the region. Most wineries will be happy to offer you some samples and most of them are rather on the great side in taste. Bulk wines have the greatest price to value ratio yet I can not say the bottled ones wouldn't be worth their prices. This place has a really great milieu to it, but prepare yoi wouldn't want to be the one who's driving.

Some hits, some misses, but this is a Must-Do in Eger! Torma pince wines are by far superior to everything else out there, try the REM 2013 - an AMAZING blend. Just fantastic, as is their work with Kekfrankos (skip the Bikaver - it's just an inferior grape!)

Some great wineries number 34 -22-25 were special exceptional wines and nibbles very reasonably priced for all measures
Beware at number 47 waited for us to get seated before asking us to leave because he was closing early

Overpriced restaurants with low quality of Hungarian foods. Also good luck if you have any dietary restrictions. Wine is semi good (but hey, I am not an expert in that). It could be so much nicer, it pains my heart.

Wine paradise... you can taste lots of variety of Hungarian wine....and then decide which you want bulk buying. If you become regular customer some of the wine cave shops offer Hungarian traditional dishes like hot goulash soup.... its best experience....

A short distance from the town square, you can even walk there. I took a leisurely stroll. Check out the different cellars for wine tasting. Restaurants are available but I think better in town. Enjoy your glass of red! Some are genuinely passionate about wine. Some are just for the money.

A really unique place to try a variety of wines from different wineries. Some cellars are really nice and cozy, others have mold growing all over the ceiling and walls - just something to be aware of as you bop around.

Beautiful historical basilica. The dome and ceilings are very beautifully painted. Well maintained. I've been to many well known cathedrals and I still think this is pretty impressive - maybe it's just because I still haven't figured out how these master painters paint the domes and ceilings with such perfection...

The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Apostle or more formally Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist, St. Michael and the Immaculate Conception also called Eger Cathedral is a religious building affiliated with the Catholic Church that functions as the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Eger, located in the city of Eger, in Hungary. The cathedral was built between 1831 and 1837 by József Hild, commissioned by Archbishop János László Pyrker. The cathedral is a basilica with three naves. In the middle between the nave and chancel to the east is the transept. The dome of the cathedral, 40 meters above ground, is lavishly decorated. At the rear are the two bell towers. The portal on the eastern porch is designed like a Greek temple. The monumental entrance is decorated with statues of saints: St. Stephen, St. Ladislaus, and Saints Peter and Paul. The facade is supported by Corinthian columns that reach a height of 17 meters.

Under renovation on the outside. Access is possible you just need to find the right door. Inside much is closed off and under wraps for protection from all the dust being generated by the renovation.
While a little dark and gloomy on the inside it is worth a visit and you will get a good sense of the cathedral's grandeur.

I can't tell any historical or technical detail about the cathedral. Just being visitor, a passerby. I just liked it. Part is being under reconstruction, some of the paintings are gone or maybe covered by some protective canvas.
It's worth visiting. And, entrance is free of charge 👍

Dobó István Square located in the downtown area of Eger, Hungary is a popular tourist attraction. The square features outdoor cafes, a summer fountain, and the Baroque Church of Anthony of Padua. It is surrounded by numerous restaurants and bars offering cozy ambience to visitors. This historic site is significant as it was attacked by the Turkish army during the 16th century.
A beautiful historic square, in summer there are various events, in winter you can find Christmas markets here. Large buildings and distinctive architecture underline the historical importance of the city of Eger, which even today is one of the important places to visit.

It's a very important historian place of Eger in Hungary. The Turkish army tried to attack Eger in the 16th century. Eger is also an important center of the Catholic religion. We call it, the city of monks.

What a lively city. This square has everything, live music, bars, restaurants, fountains. Little cars for children to hire. I could sit here for hours. There was a guy playing Greek music on a mandolin tonight and people were dancing
The Castle of Eger was constructed in the 13th century following the Mongol invasion and rebuilt after the Tatar invasion. Originally built as a fortress to defend against Turkish invasions, it now houses a history museum featuring models, drawings, artifacts such as armor and Turkish uniforms, and an exposition on the castle's story. The Gothic St Johns Cathedral foundation can be found on the eastern side of the complex while visitors can enter the castle casemates via the Dark Gate nearby.
Beautiful place, there are amazing views, a ton of historical data, also you can see different expositions. Have a good breakfast before going, there is a restaurant next to it, that is delicious. The restrooms are clean, and everybody is kind. Not everything has been translated to English, but if you have google Translate, there is no problem. Download the Hungarian dictionary in the app to make things easier. If you like the dark souls saga, you will love it.
Ramon R. L. — Google review
Since most of the exhibitions are closed, it’s not worth visiting. Got a student ticket for 1k HUF, so I guess it was fine. If you are planning to visit, you need to wait for the end of the renovation, as I think it will give much more for money. I think it can be a super cool location once it has everything open and working. Beautiful views on the city though
A B — Google review
Visiting the castle is worth the price of the ticket. There was lots of renovations going on at the time of our visit, so parts of the area were closed and the surroundings were a bit chaotic. At the ticket office was a helpful person working, for the rest personnel didn't speak other language besides Hungarian or they were not interested in serving clients.
Iina Toivari — Google review
We had a wonderful time walking around and seeing the castle fortifications, as well as the exhibits, which fortunately have English text in addition to Hungarian.
There wasso much we missed out on, though - costumed performers demonstrating life in the time of the Castle's heyday, it appeared.
It would be wonderful if they occasionally had the performance in other langauages, but at least perhaps a flyer with some translated information?

Beautiful place to visit, lots of history and interesting things to learn. Try the restaurant as well as the food is extraordinary good in here.
Be prepared some of the cashier is rude and also if you’re a student over 25 the cashier will not apply the student discount. I felt discriminated as I believe regardless of age a student is a student and should be considered. The cashier almost made out that I am lying. When I tried to explain I am an adult student she said well over 25 you’re to old to have student discount. Yet again discrimination against my age.
Andrea Csaszar — Google review
For us, it's not worth to visit the castle before 5pm, from this time you can buy a walk tickets for less than the half of the daily price and it doesn't give you that much more. Daily ticket was 4.000 HUF, walking ticket from 5pm was 1.500. From springs to fall it's worth better to choose this because you can watch the sun going down from the castle which is pretty cool. If you're a museum fan maybe it's worth to visit before 5pm because the museums close at 6pm.
Parking in the area is pretty complicated but it can be solved and you have to pay for it!
Sándor Latanik — Google review
If you don’t speak Hungarian don’t waste your time and money. Paid 4,800HUF for 2 people and it’s the price just for the entry ticket, you have to pay extra if you want to see e.g the wax figures. It was hard to find anything since there is literally no information in English. There are some tours to the underground but only in Hungarian and you can’t go there by yourself because it’s locked. The castle itself is under heavy construction (pictures attached), lots of places are fenced off. Toilets are out of service, staff at the information desk spoke poor English. The only think we liked was the place where you could see the firearm and military equipment from the past.
Michel Error404 — Google review
It is under construction right now, but the view is still great from there. We really liked the weapon museum inside the turret. The price of a ticket is cheap, we were getting there a little before we could have bought the cheaper ones, but the full price was still worth it to be honest. One ticket was 1200Ft.

Looks much better from the city than it does from inside the walls. Incredible that someone who loves the history can destroy such a historic castle. Renovations are done in awful way and it's actually being modernized and some parts are being added that weren't part of the actual castle. While you walk inside the walls, you can see newer buildings in the castle from that are from different ages and not the same architecture styles. Same goes for cannons.
Seriously, stop destroying this castle and if you are doing some works, should keep things and the castle how they actually were in the history. Everything else is just architecture genocide.
Looks like someone is strictly after tourists and doesn't care much about preserving this part of history.

We have now visited many castles across Europe. This is one of the few that we have seen that have been fully renovated to perfection. The customer service was very slow and hard to communicate in english This may not be the most visually impressive castle/ fortress around, especially from the outside. But it has many impressive rooms, exhibitions, displays and events on offer. We loved the weapons exhibition which had the highest quality collection I have seen. We also highly recommend paying for entry to the Eger 1552 movie. It was really high quality and a good short film to watch.
T Ryan — Google review
Not as good as many other castles we have visited. The ticket office is super slow, you can get up on parts of the ramparts and there are different "museums" with different themes and artifacts, including the max models which you have to pay extra for. Overloaded with tourists which always takes a bit of shine off.
Jarrod Hunt — Google review
An absolute MUST see place when visiting Eger! Enormous history will wait for you. Make sure you'll wear a very comfy footwear! Also, there is a certain tour which requires an additional ticket to purchase. The ticket prices are ridiculously low! You'll get a stunning view of the entire city! There are smaller vendors for refreshments, restaurant within. Exploring the entire castle will take a few hours, and it is worth every second!
Gizella Juhasz — Google review
Beautiful place for kids and adults to enjoy. Not much general history about the castle itself only the period of captain Dobo's time. Limited food access. Facilities not accessible for wheelchair or disabled users. Archaeological discoveries are positioned in the upper part of the museum, with high stair, so difficult to climb. Perhaps the castle would benefit to move it to the ground level so everyone is able to see it.
Large freshwater aquarium & eco-center with native Hungarian fish, zoo, 3D cinema & panoramic views.
What a great experience!! The center was built around 10 years ago, it includes an impressive still water aquarium with sturgeons, a 3d movie theatre, an observation towers, some playgrounds for children... Great introduction to the local wildlife through the boat trip on the actual lake and the 3D short documentary. Good collection of Hungarian animals and some foreign ones. All kept at larger area, fed well and treated well. The aquarium area has a large tank dedicated to “viza”, the local beluga fish , which is almost extinct due to intensive fishing in the past. Don’t miss the daily animal feeding, which is a favourite for kids.

This place is a must visit, if you are around Lake Tisza. With or without children you may easily expect 4-6 hours or more, so it's a full day experience, a less than 4-hours stay is simply not worth it. Combine it with a lake excursion, some minigolf, the 3d cinema, a slow lunch or whatever. I advise to inform beforehand about the public feedings so that these won't conflict with the cinema or excursion times to get the full package.

Very nice place to visit if you are near by. Although it is not so famous, the place is child friendly, warm and also wild. Because of the 1st of May, it was very crowded, we had to wait to see the aqvarium but it was worth it. We spent around 2 -3 hours and did not reached to see everything. There are not so many animals as at the zoo, the view from the tower is very nice, it has 4 towers simbolizing the fours seasons. Highly recommend to buy the park+boat combined ticket, after visiting they take larger groups for an almost one hour boat ride on the lake which is an awesome experience to see it from another point of view and also learn a few interesting, never heard before facts about it.

The catle with its expositions are in very good conditions offering a lot of facts and subjects well organized in rooms which are every of them focusing on some specific part of activity. Nice peace of history. Very professional staff. Highly recommend.

The castle looks splendid and nice, and is kept in a very good way. We got a discount on the tickets and the kids were free. There were not much to see inside the castle but it was still good to kill some time with the kids and take photos. It is still worthy to visit.

If you're in the Miskolc area this is definitely worth a visit. It's one of the nicest castles I've seen in Hungary; this medieval castle was a favourite holiday residence of Hungarian kings and queens.
The castle was renovated between April 2012 and 2014 and instead of a historic castle ruin, visitors can now visit an old, remodeled castle.
The castle features a special feature of informal cognition; the visitors can experience the atmosphere of the medieval castle freely, trying all of the things. In addition to the interactive content, reenactors dressed in timeless outfits, as well as spaces on the ground floor that showcase everyday life, contribute to the atmosphere.
As a quick reference for the origin of the name: Dió means walnut, referring to the abundant walnut trees in the area. Győr is an archaic version of the word gyűrű, meaning "ring". It probably refers to the rounded shape of the first castle erected on the hill.
The first castle was probably built in the 12th century, but destroyed during the Mongol invasion. The castle that stands today was most likely erected in the times of King Béla IV, in the 13th century.
The castle had its prime during the reign of Louis I (Louis the Great). In 1364 the nearby town Miskolc was annexed to the Diósgyőr estate. Diósgyőr lost some of its importance when the political union between Hungary and Poland ended.
In 1596, the Ottomans occupied the area; Diósgyőr remained under Turkish occupation, ruled by the Pasha of Eger until 1687, when this part of the country was freed from Turkish rule. By this time the castle lost all of its military importance.

We visited during a reenactment, and it was a blast. The schedule we found of events was not followed that I could tell, and with the children under four, that can be a challenge. The food was terrific and the events were fun. The area where the held most events were too crowded. Nevertheless we had fun, as we said saw knights and the various displays in the castle. The stairs up to the towers were treacherous...haha, but the view was worth it (carrying kids up the tower was not).
Landmark stone bridge with 9 arches completed in 1833, a favorite of photographers & artists.
Nice to take a stop when passing by, take a boat trip or a walk.

Iconic Hungarian location (400k bricks used) and built out touristic surroundings. Due to draught not much water in the river, also feels a bit under construction here and there.
Andras Benke — Google review
Massive disappointment. After reading that this was a really popular landmark we planned a route to include this when coming over the boarder from Romania. We parked up and walked over to find an extremely boring and poorly maintained bridge. Nothing spectacular, nothing unique, in fact quite literally a really boring bridge. The town was all closed up (in May) kind of felt like actually the Hungarians had got board of it too. Take my word for it, don’t bother it’s not worth it.

Great arch Bridge over the lovely River in this beautiful location. Such a nice area to visit for walking.
Richard Attoe — Google review
This is a wonderful place. However, the bridge was not in the best condition. It's pretty overgrown, difficult to get down in the mud.
T Mckay — Google review
It's been incorporated, now it looks like a completely alien landscape.
The old memories of herds being driven on it back in the 1800s are unimaginable.
This bridge is a World Heritage Site, but unfortunately the surrounding area is not so much anymore.
It is said that many people were inspired by this bridge...

Its a remarkable sight at the hortobágy national park. It's a bridge with 9 holes. The interesting thing, is the story behind this is funny as told by the locals. In Hungarian its known as Kilenclyukú híd.

Spas & Wellness
Simple rooms in a casual hotel on a spa complex, with indoor & outdoor pools, plus tennis & a bar.
No shiny luxury hotel but splendid in any other thinkable way. The venue is midsd an enormous spa area, probably the largest in Europe. In winter, all rooms, and access corridors including cocktail bar allow walking in bath robe. Very friendly staff, especially at the restaurant. Breakfast, lunch and dinner offer an authentic traditional menu, usually slow cooked. One ground floor corridor provides access to dozens of specialised consultations and specialised treatments. The inside spa area offers a special immersed spine treatment. When clear sky in winter, check out the stars in the outside pool after 18h. Wheelchair friendly parking and building access. Wheelchair friendly rooms can be found on the first floor.

The service personnel was really friendly, the thermal water is the best that I had ever experienced. The room had some problems, but was acceptable. The dinner was really good. Some people are not go under the shower before going to the pool, but it is mandatory to get really clean to the pool to get a clean water. There where plenty of health services, like massage, hydrotherapy, etc, and the price is not really expensive, so everibody can afford it. Don't by the AQUA PALACE pass, only, if You would swim with hundreds of people together in little pools. For kids this is a good place, but for a couple definitely NOT!
Péter Lévai — Google review
The hotel was fine for 3 stars but not 3+ for sure. Certainly not recommended for families traveling with babies or small children; they don't really have the facilities to make you feel like home. With older kids it is totally fine. The food is pretty delicious and they offer a big variety however not the best if you have any kind of food allergy or if you are vegan. The big plus is that you can use the open air bath and the Aqua Palace as well for free if you stay here.

Great place for kids. However there are some areas where you can feel a cold stream of air, which can be unpleasant when you're wet.

A very nice spa, perfect for a family vacation. There are several pools, each with a different theme. At the first floor, there are pools for baby's as well as a trambuline area. The water is heated, except for the water slides area.
Tickets: after 4 pm you pay less for the entrance.

Great indoor aquapark. There are many pools, the water is warm, water massageurs run all the time and there are lots of them. One long slide, one family slide and two slides for smaller kids. Even a kids playground by the pools. A bit colder upstairs in the kids area. There aren't enough hairdryers but there were a few outlets to plug in your own. If it had more indoor slides it would be as good as Ramada in Budapest.

The worst waterpark I’ve ever been to… Sometimes I felt like I’m somewhere in Ukraine 80’s aquapark.. Old pools, old Aquapark entrance, boring themes, no plates with foreign languages, everywhere only hungarian, first impressions were like: Where the ** am I?… Highly don’t recommend this.. Price for entrance costs 15€, when you want to go to sauna and spa, you have to pay Extra money for this, the only sauna is Salt sauna on third floor, and there is radiator in the middle of the room and old candlestick with Salt imitation.. BIG SHAME.. HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND!

The place was clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. For kids seemed pretty fun but not so much for young people (20-30). We enjoyed the slides a lot. It’s nice if you just wanna relax. After 16:00 we paid 3600 HUF/adult.

A good spa with a good number of pools at varying temperatures from 28 degrees Celsius upto 36 degrees. There is a cafe and cafeteria available on site - remember to carry your wallet with you. The kids section on the upper level is spacious & well equipped. Changing rooms are clean and we'll maintained as are the toilets. A good place to spend the day with the family.

I came back after 2 years here. I didn't see any changes for the better, on the contrary, noise, people who don't respect the rules of common sense. I saw many overweight adults using the children's slide without anyone drawing their attention. The restaurant is not sized for the capacity of the complex, the restaurant gets crowded around noon, you wouldn't want to wait in line for an hour to eat.

Absolutely fantastic visit to a Tokaj winery! One of many small operations that sprung up after the change in government of 1990. Very knowledgeable in particular about the "noble rot" known for producing these wines. Good place to try the sweet "Essence" wine which is otherwise very hard to find. We got to tour their cellar as well after the tasting, which was quite fun. Absolutely worth the train ride in and out of Budapest, although if you can rent a car and stay overnight I'd recommend that instead

I had an incredible experience at this winery. As a customer, I was truly impressed by the quality of their wines. I had the pleasure of trying all 10 varieties, and I must say, they were all exceptional. Among them, my favorite was the Kaleidoscope, its taste and complexity were truly remarkable. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire tasting experience enjoyable. I highly recommend this winery to anyone visiting the Tokaj wine region. It's a must-visit for wine enthusiasts seeking outstanding wines and a memorable time.

I'd give 6 stars for this place! Generally, Tocaj region will turn your understanding of wine in 180 degrees. But I specifically love this small cute family winery with limited bottles. Wine tasting here must have expensive for visiting Hungary- they are offering 6 wines and showing storage area (approximately 6000 Hungarian money - sorry, don't remember the name). What I love most - is small cute attaches, like the wine named by cat's name, hand placed stickers. By the way, they also have zero waste branding - labels from bottles they don't need they use for bags branding, love this idea). Aszu is forever in my heart ❤

The winery is a small family business, but the winery tasting experience and cellar tour is huge and impressive. Owner's daughter introduced different types of grapes, and the reason why Tokaj is a perfect region for noble wine. Drinking the white wine and noble in the meatime of the wine tour guide, I really have a good time in the afternoon.

Had an amazing quick visit today. The “Kövérszőlő 2019” was so good, that we might go back just to pick up some bottles from the 2013 harvest.

The winery is close to the main square. The building, winery, terrace are nicely arranged. We had a tasting with 6 wines, all white as per the region, 2 dry, 1 semi sweet and 3 sweet. Good hospitality, explanations were relatively basic at first but then more complete towards the end of tasting. Dry wines very specific, different but with a common taste probably from the soil. Taste is quite strong, different than most other wines. The sweets are great. The prices are mid or a bit above, but good experience.

One of the best places for wine tasting in Tokaj. The location, a former royal hunting house, adds a lot to the experience. There is a romantic garden and a modern tasting room underneath beautiful old building. The white wines and the aszus come from 3 hectares of private vineyards.
Restored medieval fort with views from ramparts & displays of torture instruments & toy soldiers.
Very nice castle. Worth to take a detour if you're in the area. The views of the surrounding plains are very nice. In the interior there are models, with tin soldiers, depicting various battles the Hungarian took part in. There's a decent size car park, a restroom and a restaurant/bar.

Enter the ‘bridge’ on the right side for a spectacular view over het Zemplén. The castle is small but it has an exhibition room that show the battles that were fought in the castles history. The castle is absolutely worth a visit. Near the entrance you will find an enjoyable medieval restaurant atmospherically located inside a cave that once functioned as stables.

Really enjoyed the castle trip. Beautiful, older castle, set on the hill. A lot of tourists come here, better come earlier during the day. Entry is very cheap, though corresponds to the fact there are very few guide points to tell the story of this castle. The visit takes around 1 hr.

Very well restored castle. Probably one of the better ones out of the 20 located in modern Hungary. There is a reasonable entry fee but so much to see. There are live shows showing knights sword fighting and some attendants in medieval costumes. The views from here are spectacular. Highly recommended. One note to mention though, everything is written and spoken in Hungarian so have a translator app available if you don't speak the language. May be a bit challenging to navigate by elderly or those with mobility issues. Still worth a visit just for the views as the castle is located on a steep hill.

An excellent tip for a weekend trip with family, children or friends. The nicely renovated castle offers an excellent view of the surroundings. Exposition appropriate to the size of the castle. There is free parking directly below the castle, from which it is a short walk to the castle.
If you are planning a visit, check the opening hours in advance.
There is a nice viewing terrace with a cafe near the parking lot under the castle. And I can't fail to mention the medieval restaurant where you can have a great meal.
I appreciate the possibility to pay by card in the castle and in the cafe and restaurant.

This medieval fort is from the 13th century and is very educational. Some of the rooms are well furnished, and some of them have exhibitions of weapons or tin soldiers. The view is fantastic since it stands on the highly steep ridge of the Zemplen Mountains. Get your hiking shoes because the walkways are not even and are very rocky.

Modern zoo & educational center with live shows & 500+ animal species from around the world.
I am against the concept of zoos, except for animals who are saved maybe. We came here as village museum was closed and the kid likes zoos . Beyond this, the zoo is really great. You have to go early on weekends, parking is a mess. Entry is easy, many cash desks. There are many many areas inside and lots of animals, in good state, with interesting access on pathways. Oceanarium area is fun as well.

Best zoo in Hungary. I went on a weekday afternoon so it wasn't too crowded which I was very happy about. I didn't even have to wait in line, i could get inside immediately after i arrived and bought my ticket. The zoo is very big, even has an aquarium and more indoor places. There are several places to eat as well. I went alone and still had lots of fun. Also perfect for taking pictures, even if you go alone. I loved the souvenir shop too.

It was a good experience, but in some of the places the food is horrible. We ate at a restaurant inside the zoo and besides the very big prices (and we get that because it’s on location) we literally could not eat the food we got! So be careful regarding this aspect of the experience!
I attached the exact place we tried to eat at!
There are many places you can eat inside the zoo, I don’t know the quality of the food in the other places.

We were very stupid for visiting the zoo in January 💀 Due to the cold weather, a lot of the animals were put away (don't know where), so the zoo was really empty. Here's my experience there:
- Staff: The front desk staff spoke english and was really nice to us. Apparently it wasn't tourist season, so there weren't a lot of staff. Therefore, it can be confusing to go around, even with a map.
- Animals: Idk if it's the cold or their living condition, but almost all of them seemed stressed or even "depressed". It's heartbreaking, if i'm being honest. Some of them don't look like they are in their best condition either (messy fur, poop everywhere, etc.). However, there's a pretty wide variety for you to see.
- Facility: really poor. I sure hope the staff would pay more attention in warmer weather because at least the animals will be in better condition then. The cages (?) are really small for most of the animals. On top of that, the whole zoo smelled really really bad from the piled up poop of the animals. So yeah, it's sad.
- Activity: A lot were closed during this time of the year.
Conclusion: I would not recommend.

We could admire a great variety of animals and eat a very good bean gulas to the Safari restaurant.
The sad part is that we visited the zoo park in november and we couldn't see some African animals, as they were kept inside shelters in order to protect them by the cold. Also, a few animals such as parrots and elephants were suffering of cold, either trembling or waiting in front of the entrance of the covered shelters. They were let to enter at the closing time, which in winter is at 4 pm (16.00 hours).
If you want to visit the zoo, I recommend you do it when it's warm outside, from late spring to early summer.

Great zoo overall but a bit crowded. For me the biggest attractions were the seal show, the aquarium, the white tiger, the camel ride, the elephants, the rhinos etc. hard to list all. Be prepared that the zoo is quite crowded even on weekdays so it is recommended to arrive on time as exhibition halls close earlier than the park and to arrange tickets online to jump the queues.

Such a great experience! My kids were thrilled and also overwhelmed in the zoo. Their most liked part was the aquarium. The shark and the colored small fish was the pest attraction. For me the elephants are the greatest animals seen there. We spent two consecutive days, but not full days. 5 to 6 hours there could be ok to view everything. Access is ok, parking spots are getting low fast so be there in the morning. The aquarium closes at 17:30 local time, don't miss the last entry. We did 🤪
