(Translated by Google) The unique, oldest and possibly the most beautiful Romanesque jewel in Slovakia should be visited by anyone interested in Slovak history. Easy access on foot, beautiful views, special atmosphere of the place, where history has been walking for thousands of years. And they are still walking today - now they are writing their industrial chapter in the form of a huge Land Rover complex in the plain below the hill. Anyone interested in more information (with the exception of industrial ones) could look at the fourth volume of the excellent publication "Traces of the Ancient Past" by Pavel Dvořák.

A kráčajú dodnes - teraz píšu svoju industriálnu kapitolu v podobe obrovského komplexu Land Roveru v nížine pod kopcom. Koho zaujíma viac informácií (s výnimkou tých industriálnych), mohol by si pozrieť štvrtý diel výbornej publikácie „Stopy dávnej minulosti“ od Pavla Dvořáka.

(Translated by Google) A magical place of which there are only a few in Slovakia. A beautiful church with an unforgettable atmosphere. The ugly view of the car factory from the cliff is a bit annoying, but we won't change it. Even so, the genius loci of this place will get you. A completely problem-free, undemanding approach. You can even get very close by car and then just a walk. There are usually a lot of people there, it's a popular place. I definitely recommend it to every fan of history, monuments and religious buildings. You won't regret it.

Určite odporúčam každému fanúšikovi histórie, pamiatok a sakrálnych stavieb. Neoľutujete.

Nitra Castle, an imposing fortress constructed in the 11th century, boasts a cathedral at its core and offers breathtaking hilltop vistas of the surrounding area. This historic gem is home to a museum with collections displayed in an underground tunnel-like structure for exploration at a nominal charge. The bishop vestments are particularly impressive, and visitors can join guided tours to the top of the bell tower for unparalleled views.
If you’re on a weekend city break to Bratislava, it is definitely worth to quickly visit Nitra as well. It’s a quaint, cute little town with lots of cafes and bookstores

The castle is one of the most important sights of Nitra. where you can see the cathedral located in the fortress. The viewing of which will surely make you excited. In the castle you can also climb the tower from where the whole city can be seen.

Drove a long ways to get here, and it was pretty cool, but essentially it's just another church with part of a castle built around it. I get a lot of people get excited about churches, but to me they are a representation of some very dark times in humanity, to this day they still are. If you are driving and you want to see the city and you do want to see the church then I recommend it. But I think there's some other castles that are not far that I would recommend more than this one. It wasn't some thing that was like wow this was so cool. Trencin or Beskov are the real deal

There’s a small fee to pay,but worth it. There are toilets & a am all souvenir shop. You can get there with a buggy but it’s a bit stoney &loads of steps. There’s loads of events organised here. Definitely worth visiting, love the view.
The Nitra Synagogue is highly recommended for a visit. It is open from 1-6pm on most days, and also has morning hours on select days. This historical site holds great significance, especially considering the unfortunate absence of the Bratislava Synagogue. The synagogue offers a pleasant ambiance and stands out as one of the town's rare cultural attractions. For information about upcoming events, it is advised to refer to their official website.
A building of beautiful architecture, which is also distinguished by its beauty. The second floor presents an exhibition of paintings, as well as history

Beautiful... Nitra is a such beautiful small city!!
Mlyny, a spacious and contemporary shopping complex in Nitra, houses numerous fashion retailers, a cinema, and a dining area. Its prime location offers breathtaking views of historic churches and century-old structures from the top floor. This all-in-one destination provides essential amenities during the ongoing pandemic with exceptional health protocols such as temperature checks at entry points, enforced social distancing measures inside, and widespread availability of hand sanitizers across stores.
A higher class shopping center in close vicincy to the nitra city center, easy parking in the garages. Very clean with a good atmosphere. Packed with many shops, eating corner, restaurants, coffe shops, fast food, mobile provider, moovie theater and all what a modern person would expect to find in a mid size city in slovakia. I was positively surprised.

Mlyny is a big shopping centre in the centre of Nitra. It has loads of shops, coffee shops, restaurants. Amazing play areas for kids - some are free, some at charge. Bowling alley. Cinemas. Supermarket Billa. Post office. Massive parking. Banks. They do amazing exhibitions on the lower ground. A lovely place, definitely recommended 💝

Amazing location, at the heart of Nitra, the view from the top floor of the beautiful churches and centennial buildings is to die for. Here you can find all you need to survive during the pandandemic under one roof. Their public health measures are top notch, with temperature screening at the entrance, social distancing in and hand sanitizer thoroughly implemented in every store. Surprised on how well prepared are businesses today in this beautiful small town here in Slovakia, overall a much better experience than what we had at the heart of New York City.

There's a free parking and cafe on the entrance. You can walk with the stroller, roads are flat. And there's a little playground for children. We spent there 2,5 hours, but better go for 5 to walk much more.

This is a hidden gem, unfortunately despite all its beauty it has there are some minuses as well. Missing some restaurant or caffeterrie, garden needs to get some upgrade of pavements and etc Despite all of this, this is a huge park split to several sections based on geography. Asian gardens, american gardens and etc. Beautiful views and nice nature here. Chateau needs reconstruction for sure. Still place worth to visit and enjoy.

Brilliant Spa. To many restaurants. Comfortable and modern resort like new. Just 4 stars because two pool was closed and thermal mineral water in pool was dirty. I know is not faul of Spa, but goverment.
Marian Slovak — Google review
Very unfriendly stuff on the first day they wanted to sell us the expensive wellness tickets for 29 EUR they didn't wanted to understand that we want just the thermal because my grandma can't really walk!
They can't talk even a single word in English they run like crazy to collect the money for the seat places without giving bill for it, they even come and tell you something when they see that you are eating a piece of chocolate! My grandma can't really walk to always go outside when she wants to eat a piece.. I came to relax but every single day they annoying with something.
By the way the wellness water is super chlorid.
In the little town there is basically nothing, but of course people come here to heal I just really hope that the water in the thermal helps at least.
adrienn szabo — Google review
Well-equipped aquapark with many water slides, attractions in swimming pools such as a climbing wall, handling over the water and more, the swimming pool is a little small and the depth in it isn't great, so be careful about jumping into it
However, the aqapark also has a wave pool and an entire thermal area, even an indoor spa area.
A big bonus of staying in the aquapark is the accompanying program in the form of an animator of aqazumba 2 times per day
Peter Schmidt — Google review
Very unkind stuff, we came at 18:54, on the websites they say they sell tickets to thermal till 19:00 and at the entrances they say that they sell tickets until 18:50. They didn't want to sell us entrance tickets, because we were 4 minutes late, though the websites say otherwise. It looked good, but the stuff ruined it for us and the price wasn't that affordable for the area either. 30€ for 3 hours in wellness isn't on the lower spectrum, so I would expect the service to be at that level too. Probably won't be coming back
The Basilica of Esztergom is a grand neoclassical church built between 1822 and 1856, situated on Castle Hill in Hungary. It is the largest church in Hungary, with an ornate interior, towering central dome that can be seen from afar, and a crypt. Jozsef Hild contributed to the final stages of its design. The original 12th-century church was destroyed by the Turks.
It is simply HUGE. Must visit from Budapest. It’s super close and the view from there it’s very nice. Also cross the border to Slovakia 🇸🇰 it’s recommended. There’s a small art exhibition at the entrance which was, surprisingly, good. All in all a great day trip

If you're looking for a really cool place to visit, you should check out the Basilica of Esztergom. It's a big, beautiful church that's super old and has lots of interesting things to see.
One of the best parts is the really tall tower you can climb to get a great view of the whole city. It's a little bit of a hike, but totally worth it for the awesome views. And don't forget to look up at the ceiling inside the church – there are some really cool paintings and decorations up there.
There are also lots of statues and artwork around the cathedral that are really fun to look at. My favorite was a big, shiny crown that's hanging in one of the rooms. It's super fancy and sparkly, and it was used by lots of important people a long time ago.
Overall, the cathedral of Esztergom is a really neat place to visit. I bet you'll have a great time exploring all the different parts of it. Just make sure to be respectful and quiet while you're inside the church part. Happy exploring!

ANDREAS STRAUSS — Google review
TBF when I visited, there was a renovation going on so I'm not so sure I'll be able to rate it with %100 clarity. The basilica itself was great and it's so cool to see that nearly every part of the building is still standing. The remnants inside and the treasury were great. I'm not that into body parts being kept for viewers though. Still, it was pleasant. Suggest you visit it. And while you're there, drink a tea in Slovakia.
salih akt?rk — Google review
While the renovation makes it difficult to see the Basilica in its full glory, it is still an amazing sight to visit during a day out in Esztergom! The church interior is amazing and we were still able to appreciate it despite the work and drilling in the background…The basilica also offers a tour of its dome. It is a place full of history and is the biggest church in Hungary.
Becky McGregor — Google review
Must place to visit if you're in Budapest or you visit as a tourist . This is the oldest church and is situated in Esztergom where you can take a local train from Budapest. You can take a peaceful walk before the Church premises and we need a ticket to have a look from top view. We can see the Slovakian bridge from the backside of the monument. Treasure kept inside is worth watching and the relics of kings are kept safe.
hanuma reddii — Google review
Magnificent and holy. Although currently under renovation, which means the central dome cannot be seen in all glory, it is still outstanding and enormous. Blessed are those who have not seen, and believe.

Beautiful basilica, absolutely huge, dominating the skyline. It's best seen from across the river on the Slovak side or directly in front to see its true size. Can walk around the exterior for views of the river and Slovak countryside. Highly recommend.
Paul Heller — Google review
Nice basilica, unfurtunatelly currently under reconstruction. The entry is free, you have to pay for the treasury and/or crypt only. However, the treasury is must see if you like treasures 😀 Parking is free below the basilica on the right.
Petr Weiss — Google review
Even with the construction site it is impressive. To see how they rebuild it is actually a nice extra.
To climb the stairs to the cupola is fun. Start from the Alley of Cats!
Well organized and clean.
It would be even better if there were no cars and parking directly in the front, cars just make the scenery ugly.
Prepare yourself with some history of Esztergom before visiting.
Robert Gallina — Google review
A great day out with family. The weather was perfect for a walk around the top of the dome. 400 steps up inside the Basilica and then a walkway around the outside, not for the faint hearted. I'm glad we went. The views were spectacular. It's worth visiting even if you don't want to go to the top. The treasury and crypt are well worth visiting.
Andrew OWEN — Google review
It`s a must to visit if you have the chance. Second largest building in the country and very important one. Unfortunatly it is under renovation which will take up to a few more years so inside is a big of chaos, the statues are removed, a great part of
the pavement is picked up, there are just a few benches for the ones who attend the mass. The 80 m high tower however is worth visiting, there are guided turns every hour, must climb more than 400 steps but the view compensates all.

Visegrád Royal Palace, located above the charming old town of Visegrad in the Danube Bend, is a centuries-old Italianate structure with a Gothic cloister and Renaissance-style loggia. Originally built in the 14th century under King Charles, it was later reconstructed by King Matthias Corvinus with late Gothic and Renaissance elements.
What a pretty place! Beautiful rooms and gardens.

Here was the first EU parliament held in Europe🤣🤣🤣🤣
Back in 1335 kings from Hungary, Checz and Poland and many dukes like from Bavaria, Croatia, Teutonic order... gathered here and make arrangements for peace and trade in the area. Most important event of 14th century. The palace fell in decline after Turka defeated them in 16th century. They sure are making effort to restore it. U can see how palace was in three floors, royal chambers, kitchen, gardens. A lot od things are replica, like the fountains, but in the....dungeons there are originals....well what is left od them.
In more recent history those three countries remade old friendships and there group in EU is called after this town, Visegrad.

The Royal Palace in Visegrád is a unique place where you can get a glimpse of the mediaeval life of the Hungarian royalty, it is one of the earliest examples of the transition form late gothic to renessaince architecture. The quality of the kart seriously need to maintain in a good conditions. It was broken down after 2 rounds, no new Kart to replace and also no money refund!!! In addition, there is a risk of kart damage when customers racing it, how could they charge the customer for a minor damage on the Kart? What if the damage was Already there from previous player(s)??
Conclusion: very disappointed by the way there operating the business and customers service. In such competitive world/market, the Owner you should look into the good customer service -- Word of mouth is very important!!!

Quite spoken of but just too short to really call it something absolutely must do. If you do make it to the castle then the sled is a 15 min walk away. But it just ends so quickly that you barely realise what happened. Good for a one time try.

all over fun place but definitely overpriced as i think they have switched from mainly being for. hungarian families to now being for tourists. bring food with you the restaurant is pretty bad.

A convenient 15 min woodland walk from Visegrad castle, and very reasonably priced. The food served is relatively good quality too. Two tracks, one is individual-only but the other (faster) one can be done two at a time.

Absolutely amazing. Especially the old track next to the new one is really fun even when a bit more dangerous. Prices are totally fair. No long waiting times due to good system. Toilettes are clean.

Parking one full day is 1200fts, but if u come after 4pm, it is only 600fts ~

Good alpine bobsleighing experience for the whole family with pricey memorabilia and equally pricey parking but we'll worth it lest you make a habit out of attending. There's a buffet if you're hungry and a decent enough lavatory. You pay for the whole day of parking and can strike out to visit the castle on the top of the hill on foot or go zip lining or attend the adventure park right next to this venue. Would recommend once every couple of years it's fun.

Very fun place to go! We got 6 rides each for 10€ per person. You can go quite fast and buy pictures for ~2€ afterwards. They also have fridge magnets and other souvenirs. You can also get food in this place. I definitly recomment this for some fun!

The place itself is pretty pricy, but it was pretty good.
Wine tastings on a terrace plus walks in a hillside pinot noir vineyard at a sleek estate.
Great visit to a fantastic winery. Enjoyed it so much I bought two bottles to bring back to the United States. Very informative tasting and history of Hungarian wines.

I am happy that I could discover the Etyeki Kúria. I was here twice. I know the owners who work hard to make this place a Great event venue and a lovely place to taste nice wines, too. This vineyard is close to Budapest. By car or bus it is only 40-45 minutes from the city centre of Budapest. So you can easily visit the venue any time. They organize workshops and birthdays and I loved meeting there with amazing people while enjoying the beautiful place and view.

A wonderful place, good vibe, amazing landscape from terrace, very polite and helpful employees, god wines and Pogača to really die for. The bit sparkling Sauvignon Blanc is really amazing.
Seccond day we arrived 15 min late right after closure, and they open for us to buy some more bottles. That is a very frendly gesture, well apreciated.

We visited this winery with a guided tour in December 2023!
This place is a very typical traditional Hungarian family winery, with a large variety of good wines, and defenetly worth's a visit!
The owner is very knowledgeable, professional and passionate with his work!
We tried more than 9 different wines, and we were very satisfied with the entire wine tasting experience!
Few of the highlights, were the tasting room (a nice small wooden traditional room with a wood burner in the center)and of course the old underground Hungarian cellar(a more than 100years old Hungarian stone cellar)
Thank you!

The first cathedral of the city was built in the 11th century by King Géza I who was later buried there. This church stood on the area of the present day Géza király Square but it was burned down during the Mongolian invasion. Later a Renaissance basilica was built here which was later destroyed by the Ottoman armies.
After the expulsion of the Ottomans, the Saint Michael Church was used temporarily as a cathedral. Finally Bishop Károly Esterházy decided that instead of using the church that was in gradually worsening condition, a new cathedral should be constructed. He commissioned the Austrian architect Franz Anton Pilgram to design a new building. Pilgram planned a richly decorated church that would have been a smaller version of the St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The church would have been connected to the Bishop's Palace with a colonnade. However Bishop Esterházy was relocated to the Archdiocese in Eger and Prince Archbishop Christoph Anton Migazzi was made an administrator of the Bishopric of Vác. The new bishop found the plans too expensive so he asked another architect, the French Isidor Canavele, who was living in Vienna at the time, to design a new cathedral which became the present day late Baroque building.
The construction began in 1761 and the dedication took place in 1772 though the interior was only finished in 1777. The cathedral is monumental in its dimensions: its exterior length is 72 meters, interior length is 60 meters and height is 55 meters. It is the third largest cathedral in Hungary open to the public after the Esztergom and the Eger Cathedrals. The cathedral has been dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin and St. Michael the Archangel. Between the two towers of the facade, there is a portico with Corinthian columns. Above the entablature, there are statues carved by a local sculptor, József Bechert: Peter, Paul, Virgin Mary, Joseph, John and Jacob. On the walls of the hall, there are stucco reliefs depicting biblical scenes and the coat of arms of Migazzi. The interior of the single nave church is in late Baroque style. The frescoes of the main altar and the dome were painted by one of the most significant Austrian painters of the 18th century, Franz Anton Maulbertsch. The main altarpiece depicts the visit of Virgin Mary at Saint Elisabeth, and the fresco of the dome depicts the residents of heaven, among them Hungarian saints. Two years after it has been finished, Migazzi ordered the panel of the main altar to be covered with a canvas painting depicting the crucifixion by Johann Martin Schmidt. The fresco was only freed and restored 170 years later in 1944. The main altar is separated from the nave by a Renaissance which remained from the earlier basilica. The pillars holding the dome are carved with portraits of bishops Pál Forgách, Károly Althan, Frigyes Althan and Christoph Anton Migazzi. The altarpieces in the transept are copies of painting in Italian churches, the altarpieces of the two side altars were painted by Johann Martin Schmidt.
Up until the 1940's, besides the two Maulbertsch frescoes, there were no other paintings on the walls of the church. However, in this decade the frescoes of István Takács were painted on the four gigantic walls of the transept and the semi dome was decorated with a wall painting of Béla Kontuly. There are regular services held in the Cathedral and it is a popular site for weddings and baptisms. During celebrations, it is the home of concerts which make good use of its fine acoustics.

Amazing cathedral in baroque style. Building started in 1699, but finished about 50 years later. Frescos inside by a renown Austrian painter of the time. The large square in front and the South-Western aspect allows for nice pictures to be taken.
Vac in general is well worth a daytrip for the baroque old town and the Danube walk. Many nice cafes, bars and restaurants are available. Parking by car is for a small charge in the centre.

We went to a Beethoven concert held in the park of Brunszvik Castle. Ticket prices are reasonable. The location, outside in a forest, stunning and the quality of musicians outstanding.
We caught a train from Budapest's Déli Pályaudvar station to Martonvásár. The castle is a very pleasant ten minute walk from the station. Once the concert finished we had plenty of time to get back to the station and catch our train back to Budapest.
The Matthias Church is a medieval church located in the Fishermens Bastion district of Budapest. The church has undergone several rebuilds and renovations, most notably between 1874 and 1896 when it was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style by Frigyes Schulek. The church features brightly coloured tiles on its roof, intricate painted interiors, and architectural splendor.
An amazing place, and an even better view from the top of the tower! Entrance tickets are purchased at the box office across from the church, there are several tours a day. There are 197 steps to the top and you go with a guide who speaks in English and the local language. Also, there are many seating areas around the church where you can enjoy the beautiful view. Don't miss out if you're in Budapest!

A truly unique church in Europe. Not too grand, but also not small. The church is beautifully decorated with patterns usually not seen in other churches. Very hard to believe that this was once a mosque. Exterior tower is nice. Went for a High Mass service to get the full effect of the worship space - truly stunning. As a tech geek, I was impressed to see a transparent screen used to display the words to the hymns, readings, and sermons. Don’t forget to visit the side chapels.
Great surroundings as well, a must for tourists.

Tickets for entry are across the plaza, with an optional extra ticket for going up the tower (around 300 steps).
Architecturally aesthetic church that’s worth a visit if you’re religious or just want a quick sightsee. It takes about 30 minutes to see everything inside and while the displays show more about the history of the church, it’s all pretty similar to other touristy churches, so it can be boring for some.

Wow, what an amazing church and in a beautiful area too . I came to Budapest specifically to visit St Stephens Basilica and left totally confused .There are so many lovely churches here, and this one is right up there .
The beautiful roof reminded me of St Stephens Cathedral in Vienna and inside just got even more beautiful .
It may be me being not very travelled and a bit thick but this must be a one off . It is stunning and I left awestruck .
I was lucky enough to be treated to a very talented young man playing a beautiful piece on the organ . He was great a real star in my opinion .
Personally I loved the pulpit and a sort of telescopic Lamb of God window it was great .

Will give place a 4.5.
One of the most popular places in Budapest. Go early as it gets crowded with bus loads of visitors by 10am.
Photo opportunities are aplenty outside but wait till you walk through the entrance. The interior is magnificent. One of the most well decorated we have ever visited.
The tour inside is also well routed and planned by the management. 👏. There was only a small crowd inside and our cameras never stopped snapping. 😂
The relics and displays were awesome and colourful.
Entrance to Matthias is 2900 HUF/adult. Super reasonable and really worth the effort.
To get here, there’s a steep climb up some well paved walkway. For those who are physically challenged, there is a bus to go up. Right to the door steps, literally.
Don’t miss this place if you are in Budapest.

The most beautiful church in Hungary, they say. And one of the most beautiful I've ever visited, and trust me I've seen a few and the best around Europe! Easily beats some very heavy names out there! Very warmly decorated, really good vibes, the balconies and the upper level tour a super plus! Stunning to say the least.

Spectacularly well maintained church.
If you’re lucky, there will be live music when you are visiting and you get to enjoy the amazing acoustics of the building.
This is in a very well visited part of budapest so if you want to get a private moment alone, you will want to come early before the crowds show up. Afternoons are not recommended for this reason.
Set aside an hour so you can do justice to this church.

Matthias Church in Budapest is a true masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Its awe-inspiring facade, adorned with intricate details, captivates from afar. Once inside, the interior's grandeur and historic significance unfold. The vibrant stained glass windows and ornate decorations transport visitors to another era. Ascending the tower rewards with panoramic views of the city. The church's role in Hungarian history adds depth to the visit. While its exterior is a marvel, the interior's spiritual ambiance and historical resonance make Matthias Church a must-see, embodying Budapest's cultural and architectural splendor.

A great part of Hungary, was very peaceful and quiet here. You can pay a small price to go in to the church and have a look around which I would recommend due to the beautiful architecture. You can pay a small price and climb the tower which I would recommend, you may struggle this if you are older and scared of heights. I think it is 197 steps tall with fantastic views all over Budapest.

Amazing church built in Gothic fashion. It is more beautiful from the inside, and has very unique architecture and design. The small fee you pay to visit the inside is worth the experience. We have been here in January 2024. It’s so sensational! The Matthias Church is located on Trinity Square in the Castle District on the Buda side of the city in the Fishermen's Bastion section. The Matthias Church - officially the Church of Our Lady (Nagyboldogasszony-templom) - was the first church on the Schlossberg. It is also registered as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. I can highly recommend a tour here!

We went when it was raining which made the tile roof look especially attractive. The outside of the church is right next to Fisherman’s Bastion. The inside has a lot to offer. Multiple levels, amazing stained glass and relics from the church’s past. It also has a great gift shop that sells umbrellas so being as we didn’t have any it was a little miracle they did!

Background:
It was built in 1015, original name was The Church of Mary/The Church of Our Lady, destroyed/reconstructed many times and two kings of Hungary were crowned here.
I can review only the exterior of the church, since my 48hrs. Budapest Card is not acceptable for the moment.
A lot of tourists like me queueing the line just to get inside.
Some of them, just want to see the church especially the colored tile roof.
The updated church is styled and restored in Neo-Gothic.
Recommendable to visit this place and if you have an extra pocket, better to see inside the church.

Our visit to Matthias Church in Buda was truly captivating. The church's stunning architecture, adorned with beautiful colors, seamlessly weaves together the history of the church and Budapest, creating a rich narrative.
Ascending the tower was a highlight, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Budapest. While the view was amazing, it's worth noting that there's no elevator, requiring visitors to ascend by stairs. The effort is rewarded with an unparalleled perspective of the city.
Exploring the intricate designs and colors of the church's roof added another layer of appreciation. Matthias Church is undoubtedly a must-visit in the Castle District and Buda, providing a memorable blend of history, art, and panoramic beauty.

There are several subsection to explore and read about the history and the role it served shaping the history of the Hungarian nation. It is easily in top 5 places to visit in Budapest !
The Fisherman's Bastion is a beautiful fortress with lookout towers that offers panoramic views of the city. It was built in Roman style in 1895 and was damaged during World War II, but has since been restored.
This place was stunning! If you are a fan of architecture or Harry Potter this was something magical! The castle and fisherman’s bastion is right beside one another - It’s a visitors main attraction spot, but I most say extremely hassle free. I’ve travelled a lot, and most tourist attractions have creepy men trying to sell you items, or stick tacky bracelets on your arm then ask for money. Here none of that happens at all. You can walk around freely which is nice. Which should be the Norm to do anyways - but I found it good. Not too overwhelming (again this might depend on the time you go). February not that busy, and in the evenings very quiet. My apartment was close by, the views are spectacular. The downside you’ll see just LOADS AND LOADS of phones all over the place, in your face, in your space 😂 when are we ever gonna live in the moment 🤷♀️ you can see Budapest city from here. Look it’s definitely nice to see, to get into this little castle you’ve to pay a fee but you’re basically paying to see all these “travel bloggers and insta” people taken up the entire balconies 🫡

Very pretty. Shops locally and very expensive chimney pastry stalls €10 for one 😳). Can use scooters up here but check parking as we had to walk all the way back down to find parking or lose minutes. Restaurants up top. Areas to visit have to pay for them all about €3. Great views of the city.

Beautiful architecture, it is honestly impressive even more so during a sunny day! Reaching the bastion is quite easy by foot. However, as it stands on a hill, it can be quite steep at times (there are a lot of stairs, too!). It does have good bus connections (bus no.16 takes you straight to the main square).
I would recommend going to the bastion not only for the amazing view of Budapest but also for the tour of the underground caves as it's really interesting!

A nice place offering a good view over the city! A bit overhyped on social media but definitely worthy of visiting. Can be crowded as it is a very touristy place but the exteriors of the church and the other architecture is pretty

This is very popular place in city and one can get a good panoramic view of pest side. This place has a small park, where you can just sit and relax.
Opt to come bit early in time while the day starts (before 9AM) to beat the crowd and get good photograph for memories.
The Hungarian Parliament Building is an iconic landmark in Budapest and one of the oldest in Europe. It is home to the National Assembly of Hungary, and is one of the largest buildings in the whole of the country. The building is decorated with lavish Gothic Revival-style decorations and features a spectacular dome.
This is a truly beautiful Building, I can only imagine all the important history that this place has had. The grounds are fantastic and provide some breathtaking views. In my opinion the parliament building really comes to life in the night. I would also recommend taking an evening river cruise to see it at its full beauty.

Wonderful architecture in Europe! It is Budapest's most recognizable building. From every angle, it appeared magnificent. Stunning location with trees, gardens, and of course historical landmarks. The architecture is huge and quite detailed. Stunning view of the entire building. Although I was unable to enter, I was able to appreciate it from the outside.

This is one of the largest parliament buildings in the world as the Hungarians saw Westminster and wanted to make their own version but slightly larger and I believe it is actually bigger than Westminster by about 20 feet. I recommend seeing it at night though from a boat ride when it's lit up. It's really beautiful.

This is a very impressive building, outside and inside. I was really looking forward to visiting it. However, only a few sections are open to the public, and that was disappointing considering how big this place is. You are not allowed to take pictures of where the crown is, but the room is astonishing. Guides are very nice and knowledgeable. If you have a European passport, the entrance is about £12. If you don't, I think it's twice as that.

Building is beautiful no matter which angle you see. The best time to visit is in the morning and late evening especially from the boat. You can also visit it from inside but only with the tour which lasts about 45minutes. Tour is organized in different language but needs to booked in advance if for English.

Omg. One if the gorgeous buildings that I have ever seen before. This building is so perfect inside and out and during daytime and nighttime. You need to make a reservation to go inside and the normal price for an adult is 6400 ft but its worth it. You should definitely visit this place when you come to Budapest.

Stunning building, especially pretty at night when it lights up. I took a boat tour along the river and would reccomend it to see the sights along the riverside. Didn’t go inside but the outside is a stop that’s totally worth it in Budapest. Seagulls flying on top at night look like beautiful twinkling lights, magical!!

Very beautiful and magnificent structure.
We booked a English guided tour of the Hungarian Parliament Building which lasted for about an hour and half.
The tour was amazing and you get to know some interesting facts about the parliament building and Hungary history. This is really a must to go destination for Budapest.
Here are a few tips to know before you plan your trip for the Hungarian Parliament -
Try to book the tickets online from their official website well in advance (2-3 weeks in advance) since the tickets get sold out very quickly. For e tickets, you need to exchange your e tickets with the physical tickets.
Chances of getting a ticket on the spot from the ticket counter is very difficult. However, if you want to try, reach the ticket counter around 8 am in the morning (it's opening time) and you might get a few tickets for the day.
The ticket counter does not sell advance tickets. They only sell tickets available for that day only. Use online booking as much as possible and plan weeks in advance.
This will be a audio guided tour where in you receive a radio and a headphone. The tour is available in multiple European languages including English.
Please Note - You can buy the tickets with any language available for a time slot, once you enter inside, once you get the audio guided machine, you have the option to select the language of your choice. Thus contradicting the entire idea of slots based on languages.
Last but not the least, the tour is amazing.

One of the most amazing and gorgeous buildings I have been so far in Europe. Not just the parliament building, everything near by is making it better. River, beautifully lighted bridges and trams. It’s definitely an experience when you visit during Xmas. Must see for tourists!

Budapest most famous building. Huge and amazing Parliament with a stunning architecture. Unfortunately we were unable to get inside, therefore I recommend buying tickets online well before you decide to visit the Parliament. Worth a visit and definitely you can take some amazing pictures here.

One of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever seen. It is the third biggest Parliament house in the world and one of the most beautiful parliaments according to me.
Once you go inside there are some guided tours (approximately 45 minutes) that can provide you with useful information about the parliament and history. They are offered in many languages including English, German, Spanish, Italian, etc. It's good value for money at around 10 Euro.
Certainly it looks much better from outside it's massive and very photogenic. The area around it is very well designed & landscaped.
It’s very symmetrical and gigantic. You can not miss the sight from almost anywhere around the Danube from many kilometers. The inside view of this beautiful monstrous building is equally incredible. If you are in Budapest a visit is really a must. The night view from a far distance looks like a royal gigantic palace with a beautiful reflection in the pristine waters of Danube.

Visiting the Orszaghaz Building in Budapest is an experience that should not be missed. Its stunning architecture, rich history, and cultural significance make it an essential stop for any traveler seeking to immerse themselves in Hungary's past and present.
The main hall features a magnificent staircase that leads to various chambers and rooms filled with historical artifacts and artwork. The attention to detail in every room is remarkable, from the beautifully painted ceilings to the exquisite furniture.

A spectacular sight and must see on an any visit. Highly recommended the tour where they take you around the parliament and you are given an audio guide to follow. You get to see the grand staircase and the guarded crown of Hungary. You also visit one of the legislative chambers. On the tour you get to learn about the history and design of the building and its influence. Recommend visiting inside and out. Lit up fabulously as night.

The Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial commemorates the 3,500 people who were brutally murdered by Arrow Cross Party members during WWII. The bronze shoes that are scattered about the riverbank just a short distance away from the Hungarian Parliament Building make for a moving sight.
A very historical surreal experience. And it was lovely to walk down the whole Danube promenade where there are plenty of other statues too!
There are not scripts to tell you the story behind the shoes if you don’t already know. So googling the history is advised

Nice location. Interesting story behind the shoes. Detailed metal work when looking at the shoes. This is a nice place to visit if you're local or a tourist. The views along the river bank are great and there is some amazing architecture! Worth a visit if you are ever in Budapest. Located right next to the parliament building.

To get there you need to walk right on the edge of the river. We were there after a few days with heavy rain, which made it muddy 🤷🏻♀️ as there is no real pavement. Hope that in time they will build the beautiful promenade.
The memorial itself was heavily decorated with candles, flowers and traditional jewish materials. It is a beautiful memorial, sad, melancholic.
Would benefit from some lighting at night.

Buda Castle is a large, imposing castle complex located in Buda, Hungary. The palace and grounds once belonged to Hungarian kings and queens, and are now home to the Budapest History Museum and the Hungarian National Gallery. Both museums are well worth visiting for their vast collections of art and history. In addition, the district of Castle Hill contains several important historic attractions, as well as a lively baroque quarter known for its restaurants.
Absolutely amazing experience. Something very unique in Europe. You must visit during day and night to appreciate the beauty and views. Very well renovated and maintained castle. Had the opportunity to visiting during Xmas. Beautifully lighted Budapest. Kudos to whoever in charge!

I was a little worried about the weather as it rained the night before but the sun stood strong and we were graced with a beautiful view of the city.
Entrance to the museum was free due to the public holiday and going up to the top of the tower was not a long wait either
once we got to the top we were definitely not disappointed.
You do have to be prepared to leave any large bags and coats behind in a free cloakroom. There was about 2/3 minute queue for this. They do allow you to take your phone up through the museum.
It may have been because of the public holiday that we were also graced with seeing a short parade outside the main entrance - which was fun and then they stopped for a photo shoot!
There are two lifts that will take you up from the bottom to the top which is great for those who are hard of walking or with young families. There was hardly any queue for this. That also steps that can take you up.
There are some construction work going on, but this does not take away from any of experience.
Definitely worth coming out to see this.
We did not buy any food/drinks- so cannot comment on this

By night the castle looks great, but when you get there by day the situation changes. The palace looks like no one is taking care of it - the walls on some parts have the painting fallen.
We only went in the yard of castle, in front of it. The entering gate was very beautiful, with sculptures on it and a very nice fence.
Inside the castle is an art museum.

Great structure on the top of mountain, beside the river Danube. Sprawling across a large area. The views are breathtaking. You can either take a fernacular or walk. The walking is not too tiring and you get to see a few viewpoints as well. I have not entered the museum and hence cannot comment. But the place was empty early in the morning, like 8:30 AM. Visiting the Royal Castle of Budapest was a delightful experience that I highly recommend. The castle itself is stunning and offers a captivating glimpse into the city's rich history. You can easily spend a couple of hours exploring its grand halls and picturesque surroundings.
One aspect that I appreciated was the availability of a student discount, which made the visit even more accessible for those on a budget. It's always great to see attractions that cater to students and offer discounted admission fees.
Overall, the Royal Castle of Budapest is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the city's cultural heritage. Its beauty, historical significance, and the added benefit of a student discount make it an even more enticing option for visitors.

We visited the museum that is hosted inside the building and it was nice. We were just a bit disappointed because there was only one reconditioned room which was indeed exquisite and with many architectural details. The audio guide concentrated on this room and it was quite surprising to find out that there was nothing left from the original old room, everything was a copy.
We recommend at least visiting the yard of the building since this is free and worth it. Otherwise, the price was a bit high for what we saw compared to other museums in Europe.

I visited the Castle walking with my friends from Marriott hotel on the other side of the river. The green dome on top of the building is obvious from most of the areas in Budapest. I enjoyed watching every details during my walk. There are a lot of locations to take nice memorable pictures. Make sure you visit the Fountain of King Matthias. The Budapest Castle District, a jewel nestled atop Castle Hill, offers a mesmerizing blend of history and architectural grandeur. As you wander through its cobbled streets, the diverse array of architectural styles, from medieval to baroque, tells a story of the city's rich past. At the heart of the district, the magnificent Matthias Church stands as a testament to Gothic architecture, its intricate spires and colorful roof tiles creating a captivating skyline. The interior of the church is equally impressive, adorned with stunning frescoes and stained glass that transport visitors to a bygone era. Just a stone's throw away, the Fisherman's Bastion offers breathtaking views of the Danube and the Pest side of the city, its fairytale-like turrets and arches evoking a sense of whimsy and wonder.
Adjacent to these historic marvels is the Hungarian National Gallery, housed in the grand Buda Castle. This gallery is a treasure trove of Hungarian art, showcasing a vast collection that spans from medieval times to contemporary works. The seamless blend of history and art within the gallery's walls provides an insightful glimpse into the cultural heritage of Hungary. As you stroll through the Castle District, the charming boutiques and quaint cafes add to the area's allure, inviting visitors to relax and soak in the atmosphere. Overall, the Budapest Castle District is not just a historical site but an enchanting experience that leaves a lasting impression with its stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant cultural scene.

Great historical building, a must visit! The view from the castle is also beautiful. The museum's permanent exhibition is worth visiting if you like 19th century, impressionism and modern art. The imposing St. Stephen's Basilica, built from 1851 to 1905, offers spectacular views of Budapest from its cupola. The building was damaged during World War II, but fortunately most of the mosaics that decorated its walls were saved. This popular attraction is dedicated to Hungary's holy king and the founder of the Hungarian state St. Stephen.
This is very beautiful basilica in center of town. It is one of the postcard image place of Budapest. There is no charge to see the Basilica, it is free of charge but you should give some donation. Also you can go on the top to have a panoramic view which cost you around 10 euro, there is an elevator. There are lots of good restaurant nearby

St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest is a magnificent architectural gem that left me in awe. The basilica's imposing dome, reaching a height of 96 meters, dominates the city's skyline and offers a visual treat for visitors. As I stepped inside, the grandeur of the interior took my breath away. The ornate decorations, intricate carvings, and stunning stained glass windows created a serene and majestic atmosphere.
One of the highlights of my visit was the chance to view the basilica's most precious relic, the mummified right hand of St. Stephen himself, the first king of Hungary. This sacred relic is housed in a beautifully adorned reliquary, and its significance adds a spiritual touch to the basilica's historical importance.
Climbing to the top of the dome was an unforgettable experience. The panoramic views of Budapest from the observation deck were simply breathtaking. I marveled at the stunning architecture of the city, with its iconic landmarks and the sweeping Danube River.
Exploring the basilica's interior was a captivating journey. The intricate details of the statues, altars, and frescoes were a testament to the skill and artistry of the craftsmen. I enjoyed wandering through the various chapels, admiring the beautiful artwork and feeling a sense of peace and tranquility.
Overall, my visit to St. Stephen's Basilica was an absolute delight. The impressive dome, the sacred relic, the awe-inspiring views, and the opportunity to explore its magnificent interior made it an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend adding this architectural masterpiece to your itinerary when visiting Budapest.

ST. STEPHEN'S BASILICA
It is named in honor of Stephen, the first King of Hungary (c. 975–1038), whose right hand is preserved in the reliquary. The basilica features a Greek cross ground plan. While we didn't visit the interior of the church, we purchased tickets from the ticket office located across from the right side of the church and ascended to the exterior balcony encircling the church's dome, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding city. The steps to reach there are quite a few, but the experience is truly rewarding, especially as you reach the vast area beneath the external dome, where you can glimpse the interior dome of the church.

Such a stunning building. The ticket office is just off to the side. Expect to queue to buy your ticket. We bought the combined ticket which I recommend so you can get the fantastic views from the top. There are lifts to each part but you will have to climb a few stairs regardless. One of the most interesting things was St Stephen's hand kept in a case.

For sure, it is one of the most impressive buildings in Budapest and Europe. The outside is beautifully lightened during the night, and the details of its facade can be viewed during the daytime. In December, you'll also have the chance to visit one of Europe's most astonishing Christmas markets here. The inside is also a strong recommendation for all tourists. Usually, prices and waiting times are okay if you're not visiting during prime season.

Beautiful by day, beautiful by night. It's well worth paying to see the panoramic view, especially the sunset.
To go up, you have the option of a lift (there are two - with a long queue) and stairs. Be aware that there are a LOT of stairs and spiral staircases. Be prepared 🏋🏻♀️

Got the ticket for inside the church, treasury and terrace dome. The Full ticket is definitely worth it, inside is amazing and the terrace views are second to none on this side of the river. The treasury is less impressive and can be missed imo.. There's 307 steps and Further steps at the top so not suitable if you can't climb the steps

Absolute Empfehlung!

It is the most beautiful basilica I have seen so far. The red marble on the walls combined with gold looks incredible! The altar and the ceiling painting are beautiful. The best thing to do is find a chair and admire everything from there. Tickets can be purchased online or in an adjacent building. There are discounts for seniors and children. Absolute recommendation!

Very nice basilica. We can go up to the view point near the dome to get a good view of the city. You can choose either elevator or stairs!

Very nice place to visit. The interior is beautiful. Climbing the tower part was awesome. A lot of steps, but it's worth it. There is a toilet at the middle part of the tower. The views are incredible

St. Stephen's Basilica, a masterpiece of architecture and spirituality, graces Budapest with its neoclassical beauty. It is as beautiful from the outside as it is from the inside. The soaring columns and mosaic-adorned domes inside look truly gorgeous. Don't miss the panoramic lookout offering stunning city views.

One of the Budapest must visits. Come early as it's very busy here. I suggest getting the rooftop combo package.
A striking basilica from outside, it's a great photo opportunity. Inside is mind blowing. Such beautiful and reverence. A true blessing to the almighty creator.
There are roped off spots for quiet prayer and reflection. Please take your hat off indoors. A group of Chinese tourists unfortunately showed a lack of respect by refusing to do so.
The treasure room is interesting with luxurious and historical relics from previous bishops.
The rooftop had great views on rainy or sunny days. It's worth the extra effort. You can take the lazy elevator or take the stairs like I did.
Combined ticket is 3500HUF or free for teachers

What an beautiful Basilica! We purchased tickets to hear Ave Maria and the acoustics were excellent. Take the time to wander around inside and see the art and altars. This is a functioning church so act accordingly. The Christmas fair outside is well done and had a lot to offer (much more than Vienna). This is on stop you should not miss.

Indeed, a treat for the eyes. St Istvan’s (Stephen’s) Basilica is one of the best architectures of Budapest. Although we didn’t get a chance to enter inside Basilica, we were delighted by the minute details of the arts engraved on the exterior walls.
I am looking forward to visit the church again so that I can get a chance to enter and enjoy the panoramic view of Budapest from its terrace.

It's not a place to pray for free. The Basilica and its grandeur come with a price: 6,000 HUF. The church hall at a lower fee is worth the money, I think, unless you want to see the surrounding view at the top. The Treasury is composed of very ornate robes, monstrances, and paintings. Going down the spiral steps is not for the faint-hearted or weak knees. 4-man lift is available, but the queue is long. The view at the top of the dome is breathtaking. However, there's no need to pay this extra fee if you've already gone on the Budapest Eye. The church hall is impressive and quite popular with weddings. Its decor is breathtaking, and as with all Basilicas, it gives you that feeling that God actually resides there. If you want to light a candle, make sure you have the right coins as the paying boxes do not provide other methods of payment.

The place at the time of visit was crowded, but still had the time and space for observing and appreciating the architecture. It is of great historical importance to the people. There was a service going on but the experience was wonderful especially the amazing sounds from the pianoforte. Highly recommended.

Lovely Basilica. The center of the city. Extravagant interiors but nothing different than say, St Peter's Basilica in Rome which is FREE. If you feel like giving a forced donation by buying a ticket, please do make the pope happy!
I loved getting the free (voluntary tipping) walking tour with the guy in the red umbrella everyday at 11 am - i tipped as much as the entrance and was the best introduction to Budapest for 2.5 hours.
andraci Avenue just behind it is fantastic to walk.

A beautiful basilica, we really enjoyed our visit there. This is the largest church in Budapest. To access the dome, you can use 364 steps or the elevator, and this offers amazing views. The entrance is approximately £10 pp.

Really nice place.
If you want to go in , you need to buy a ticket from the ticket office next to the church.
There is 2 different tickets
Either just church or church and viewing gallery.
The viewing gallery has a lift ( actually 2 ) to get up and down or if your daft as a brush. You can use the stairs.

The view from the panoramic terrace is definitely worth the price of admission! You can see the entire city skyline from atop the basilica. I also saw the treasury, which had some very nice art, statues, and various Catholic accoutrements. The basilica itself has some beautiful architecture, finely detailed with statues of many saints and religious figures. I would say that anyone would find this place interesting. If you are a fan of architecture, history, or religion, it's a must-see.

Stephen's Basilica is already very impressive from the outside, and it's even more impressive inside! The size of the basilica is huge and interiors are very richly decorated. It's worth buying a ticket with entry to the Panoramic Terraces, because the view of the city from above is beautiful!

If you're visiting Budapest, the Basilica is an absolute must-see. This stunning architectural marvel is not just a feast for the eyes but also offers an enriching cultural experience. The highlight for many visitors, including myself, is the organ concert held at 5 PM. The acoustics of the Basilica paired with the skilled organist create an unforgettable auditory experience that resonates deeply within the grand walls of this sacred space. Whether you're an architecture enthusiast, a lover of classical music, or simply seeking a serene and beautiful place to reflect, the Basilica in Budapest will not disappoint. I highly recommend scheduling your visit to coincide with the organ concert for an experience that is truly sublime.

Yeah I don't get why you'd need to pay a few to enter a place of worship.
Having said that, the fee paid is peanuts compared to the Jewish place not too far away, which is absolutely ridiculous.
Nevertheless, back to this Basilica.
I was impressed by the architecture and design. Truly amazing.

I’ve been traveling around Central Europe for the past 2 weeks and I’ve not seen a queue this long to purchase entry tickets to a cathedral. Attempted to purchase tickets online but somehow the website wasn’t working so I returned the next morning before the crowd. There’s several ticket option - church and tower & treasury and a combination of both. There’s a lift that goes almost to the top of the tower with amazing views of Budapest.

Just simply amazing, probably the most grandeur thing in the city of Budapest.
The view from the top is also breathtaking, especially during sunset.
Be aware though there is an elevator that will take you near the top, you’ll still need to take some stairs more until you reach the viewing platform.

The St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest is a magnificent architectural marvel that effortlessly captures the essence of Hungarian grandeur and religious devotion. From its awe-inspiring exterior, adorned with intricate sculptures and towering domes, to its serene interior, filled with stunning frescoes and ornate decorations, every aspect of the basilica is a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of its builders.
Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by the majestic sight of the basilica's vast nave, illuminated by the soft glow of stained glass windows and bathed in the echoes of sacred music. The intricate details of the interior, including the elaborate altar and the shimmering mosaics depicting scenes from the life of St. Stephen, invite contemplation and reflection.
Ascending the basilica's dome offers visitors a breathtaking panoramic view of Budapest, stretching out in all directions, showcasing the city's rich history and architectural splendor. Whether admiring the basilica from afar or exploring its sacred spaces up close, a visit to St. Stephen's Basilica is an unforgettable experience that leaves a lasting impression on all who are fortunate enough to behold its beauty. It was an amazing experience the building itself was absolutely magnificent and the architecture humbles you. The inner section of the church takes you back in the era of kings and kingdoms and the artwork was truly something else. Last but not least the view on the floor is awe-inspiring I was left stunned from you could all of Budapest.

Spectacular church, opulent from every angle. It is certainly worth a visit while in Budapest. The treasury is a little disappointing as it's very small..the view from the tower is impressive. Expect to take some 145 steps. However there is a lift (and toilets mid way up).
Like St Peters in Rome it is a masterclass in craftsmanship, and work that can be enjoyed by any regardless of faith.
A certainty for a visit while in Budapest.

The Hungarian State Opera House is a Neo-Renaissance building that is considered to be amongst the best in the world when it comes to its acoustic properties. The opera house also houses tours of its gorgeous architecture, as well as performances of world-class caliber.
We came last minute and bought the standing ‘seats’ for 1500 each. Decent view and there is a bench to lean against. Opera Building is absolutely beautiful, I believe it has had a recent renovation.
We saw Bach, which was expertly presented although the piece was not to my taste.
Well worth the visit, and also easy bough to leave early if standing becomes too uncomfortable.

Amazing building, newly refurbished and the effort that went into it really shows!
The acoustics is simply great, the seats are very comfortable and the air conditioning provides an optimal temperature. I'm shocked that I've seen Wagner's Gotterdammerung which is close to five hours and left the hall feeling refreshed rather than tired.
Of course this is reflected in the ticket price, but, seriously this is a competitor in the best halls I've ever been to, so it's understandable. I should mention the staff are an awesome bunch of guys, very helpful and non intrusive, I only got my ticket checked at entry.
I would recommend this place for any performance because it gives you the opportunity to take some great pics inside and have the joy of listening to a great sound.

Unfortunately I could not get tickets for the opera performance since everything is sold out for the nearest dates. At least I found out that they provide guided tours in a few languages. The ticket price is 9000 forint, you can book it on their website or buy it there. I really enjoyed our tour the duration of which was 1 hour. The guide was friendly and she shared lots of stories about the Opera House establishment and history. And the building itself is majestic inside 😍

Take a tour, enjoy this wonderful small opera house with lots of historical information and, with a little luck, watch a new stage design being set up. It's 25$/23€ and well worth it, with a little performance included. Also do watch a play. Best to book or get your tickets WELL in advance. Otherwise you'll only be able to get in line an hour before the performance and get, very comfortable, standing room only assigned "seats" for a very reasonable $4,50/4€. It's a wonderful experience. Unfortunately I can't post the coming operas information and the videos of the wonderful interior and impromptu performances.

If you are a traveler who couldn't book a seat, you can go to the ticket office on the right side of the 0th floor at 5 p.m
You can reserve opera seats and standing seats on Hungarian National Opera Home Page site.
Standing seats are held at 5 p.m.
In other words, you can book standing seats at 5 p.m. online and offline at the same time.
Standing seats can only hang a hip over a seat.
The concert space is half visible, and the orchestra is half visible
Five dollars is enough to feel the feeling and emotion of the opera, and you will thank me.
You will feel the best luck in your trip to Budapest.
That's how cool it is.

Review contains useful advice! ⭐️⭐️
100% recommend. Tickets were 9000 HUF per person and they have tours available in English, Spanish, French, German, Hungarian (choosing Hungarian makes the tour 5000 HUF I believe) and I think also Italian. The tour guide was amazing. The tour was very engaging, NOT filled with boring facts but rather learning through actually useful information and funny jokes.
⭐️⭐️ At the end of the tour there was a 10 min performance. I recommend trying to grab a seat on the stairs or a view in the middle. We were on the right side and the singing was not heard as well because of the speakers.
⭐️⭐️As I remember, the box with all four seats is around €160 so if you plan on going to opera make sure to bring something glamorous like a tuxedo/dress as to not stand out and look like a local 😂

When I came to Budapest two years ago, the Opera was not opened to the public due to renovation. Finally, I took a visit to the magnificent building this time. It deserved a two-year waiting any way. The only minor bug was that the guide in this Opera cannot speak English fluently and was not friendly, either.

My sister bought two tickets as a surprise on hour first night staying in Budapest. It was definitely a ‘must’ when you’re there. Both the architecture and the atmosphere were breathtaking! Everyone except a few tourists were following the dress code. That’s why, we were also dressed elegantly for that night. The symphony orchestra’s performance took two hours excluding the half an hour break. I strongly suggest to experience this environment then you go to Budapest!

Beautiful building both outside and inside. We got to find tickets online for half the regular price and they were the best invested 6 EUR of my life. My seats were on the third floor, but the visibility was remarkable considering the actual distance. I really enjoyed the ballet and the wine during the two intermissions.

The Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest is a stunning venue that offers both guided tours and performances for a fee. We did the opera tour, and it was awesome. They take you through several areas and rooms throughout the building and explain their purpose, history, and artwork/decoration. They then lead you to the balcony section, and eventually to the main seating area. Then they finish it all off with a mini performance from some of their artists. It was a great experience, and we highly recommend.

BEWARE: if you are going to a performance, BE ON TIME. They don’t let you in even if you arrive 6 minutes late (like I did). You can enter when the break is happening.
If you are on a budget and would still want to experience a performance of one of the best operas in the world, go to the office 2 hours before the show and buy a ‘standing ticket’ for only 5€. You have cushions tu lean on. But being standing up is worth it.
If you don’t want to feel excluded, wear something nice, opera-nice. But still you can attend with jeans and shirt, as I did.

The House of Terror is a museum in Hungary documenting the effect of Nazi and Soviet regimes on Hungary and the victims. It includes a permanent exhibit about crimes and atrocities committed by both regimes.
Moving, superbly setup museum on a tough topic.
Small museum but extremely well setup for visitors with audio guides in most languages that automatically trigger as you enter a given room. This was a killer feature that made the visit even more easy to traverse.
Extremely inexpensive and well maintained. Man’s inhumanity to man is well documented and movingly portrayed.
I wish every museum was so well setup. One can spend 3 hours at the museum easily to do it justice.

This museum is absolutely critical to educate both Hungarians and tourists on the horrors of communism and totalitarianism in the country.
The stories, images and artifacts remind us all the value of democracy and how fragile it is, and the high cost we all pay when we lose it.
My rating was mostly due to the lack of opportunity to present a more forceful and impactful message, most messages were in the form of videos with Hungarian audio, poor or no English signage made the message dissipate.
I hope it is remodeled to create a better impact and easier for the international audience to absorb.

My 10 year old son, and I visited. We did the audio tour which was a bit too detailed and long-winded. We skipped some of the sections, but it was still very informative. The best part is at the end in the basement. We checked our backpacks in the luggage storage, and it worked very well.

Me and my brother (USA, 18 and 19) spent 2.5 hours here. We did not get the audio guide. Like other reviews - the staff is at the very least NOT friendly. It cost us $23.49 USD for 2 of us - full price tickets (they do not have student discounts for students with citizenship outside the EU area). Almost everything is written in Hungarian, so consider the audio guide IF 1. you have more time or 2. You really like learning /history. There was enough details for us from the many many videos with English subtitles and the one pager descriptions in about half of the rooms. Overall we learned about a side of history barely taught in American classrooms and so I find this to be a MUST VISIT, even with all the negatives. We came in at 10:10 and had to wait 10 minutes in a line to buy tickets. When we exited around 12:45 there was a pretty long line stretching outside the building (probably 20-30 minute wait).

Its difficult to describe a visit to this museum as enjoyable given its focus. But, if you want to learn about the recent history of Hungary, this is a good place to start. We took the audio guide as we were unsure how much would be in English. Turned out that there are A4 sized cards on the wall in each exhibit/room in English you can take out and read. We still enjoyed having the audio guide. My teenager particularly found this museum fascinating. She listened to every bit of the audio guide and read absolutely every piece of information in here she could find. We spent several hours here having a break for lunch. Even if you haven't much time, a walk round over an hour or so will give you a good taste of what is in this museum & if you are an English speaker, the A4 info cards will be sufficient for you to grasp each exhibit. Some of the old videos displayed recounting this time period are harrowing & a sobering reminder of such recent history.

A good first stop to a trip to Budapest as it helps you understand what Hungary went through and how it relates to some of the other common tourist attractions.
The audio guide is a must for English speakers, without it you only have paper pamphlets in certain rooms.
I took off a star because of the whole set up. The music was way too intense in one of the first rooms while I was trying to watch the video. The interviews on the wall are also a bit confusing, one would play and then it switches to another screen and then back.

Not a very enjoyable museum due to the nature of its content but a must visit in order to understand and learn form one of the darkest periods of our time. The exhibitions are very well curated, the atmosphere of each room really takes you into the topic they are showing. The rooms are impresione and also very interactive. I would recommend to go early in the day to avoid the many visitors it gets and to buy the audioguide.

First of all the reason I'm knocking a star off is because the staff are so unfriendly and you aren't supposed to take pictures.. I have no idea why that would be though. Otherwise, it's good value for money, educational, and a really interesting place.

A decent place to go if you have an extra day at Budapest. Don't reserve your day specially for visiting this.
It is about the history of world war but feels like it's just one side of story (which is totally understandable).
The audio guide is recommended, and the entry fee is 10 Euro. It takes around 1.5 hour for the full tour.
Taking pictures inside is not allowed.

When visiting Budapest, the House of Terror should definitely be visited and enriches the city trip. In general, this museum shows the time of Budapest/Hungary under National Socialism and the time under Communism. The museum illustrates well how two very different political directions nevertheless intersect in their cruelty. Admission is fine. I would really recommend an audio guide, as there is a lot of information in it and it can be relatively uninteresting without one. I would also recommend visiting at weekends when there are no school groups. There are lockers in the museum for storing valuables. Inside it was very very humid and warm - I would take water with me.
Martin — Google review
I give only 3 stars because the real goldmine of information, documents, images and exhibits is very, very badly organised.
The itinerary of the visit is not clearly explained, and one can deduce it only if he knows the history and the events (I did it, but not the same for several visitors, who were wandering inside the venues with no clue of what to see first).
The volume of propaganda music and speeches was so loud to overwhelm the audio guide explanations.
The captions - when available...- were often only in Hungarian.
The wardens spoke NO English at all.
Finally, few places to sit.
A real pity.
Gianluca Manfredelli — Google review
This was a sobering exposé of atrocities in the post WW2 and Soviet occupation era. It was a thorough and well documented timeline showing the impact to the daily lives of ordinary citizens caught in the crosshairs of war. The only criticisms are that the museum would itself become another terror in the event of a fire, given the overcrowding of visitors, close quarters and unlabeled fire exits. The English audio guide also portrayed the Hungarian politicians as being forced unwillingly into choosing sides in WW2 due to being squeezed between Germany and Russia, with no mention of their aspirations to retake land lost after WW1.
John Miller — Google review
The climate in this place is just amazing. So good idea to create this that much scary. The things presented are just facts. There's a lot of videos. Don't take the audio guide as this does not help you to focus on what you see or watch. On the other hand it works just terrible. Sometimes switches automatically (mostly in the rooms with videos) where in quiet rooms without and texts doesn't work and you need to turn on manually. I have found it rather disturbing after just 5 minutes. The organization is half good. That means you start 2nd floor and follow the arrows until 1st floor. Then the access to the basement is something you need to figure out on your own also with direction.
Krzysztof Sucharski — Google review
Interesting museum about the history of Hungary and the past of the Soviet regime. It can be abit abstract at times and some exhibits have no English descriptions. The exhibit is not that big and can be finished in about 30-45 minutes. The sentiment of the museum is good as you can see the real building and place of the atrocities, but it is not very educational. Museum tours can block whole rooms and passages for other visitors which is frustrating. Staff are just curt and not friendly.

Should have a lot of stories that show the horrible period in Hungary. The poor arrangement not able to bring up the interest and make visitor boring and sleepy. Basically just script with some videos and throw these information to visitors. Unlike other museum or gallery that they don’t allow any photos taking in this house. I would not recommend to waste time

Lots of bad things happened here in this house, use the audio phone if you want to understand something , everything is in Hungarian, no English next to all infos . Visiting the museum is only comprehensible with audio guides; without them, you're left bewildered (especially if you do not understand Hungarian). While the atmosphere is great (and the overall setup), it's overshadowed by the lack of English explanations for tourists, leaving them at a disadvantage. Important to mention: No photos allowed.
Tobias Schneider — Google review
The Museum was good, I felt the audio guide is very necessary despite there are some papers with explanations but the info they have are very limited, so in my experience would be more enjoyable and easy to understand if you have an audio guide. The price is 2,000 florins

Pros:
- For a museum about terror, it felt eerie and claustrophobic. The visuals, music and sound all supported the atmosphere.
Cons:
- They use a revisionist history where Hungarians were portrayed as victims of Nazis whereas in reality, they were allies and enthusiastic collaborators (Hungary chose to join the Axis). This museum fits well with Orban and Fidesz’s narrative.
- Almost everything is in Hungarian so you need to get the audio guide. Is the propaganda intended for a domestic audience?
- The gift shop contains more propaganda literature about how wokism or Soros is corrupting the world.

Impressive square with a historical significance.
There are seven sculptures on each side that depict people that played a role in Hungarian history.
There are a lot of attractions in walking distance such as the, City park, House of music, Vajdahunyad Castle, Museum of Fine Arts and more.

Romanesque looking statues and columns. Huge and stunning. Totally worth a visit and pictures. There added two different museums that are on both sides of the square and the city park is a super short walk from there. Easy to use a city bus to get out to that area, took us about 40 minutes on the bus. It is away from the main downtown areas.

The right side represents literature and arts. The left side represents strength and power....or something similar.
It's a nice place to learn about the history of Hungary 🇭🇺.

It was my first time visiting budapest and the heroes square is the first tourist spot i step on. It was a great experience roaming around the city, i may not visit some of the museum, but still it is worth it. And i promise to visit there again

Wonderful place , nice pictures you can take, it need 30 minutes and then you can shift to other place. Its near awesome castles by 10 minutes waiting

Im giving this a four star as although the monuments are spectacular, and very akin to Vatican city style pillars that curve, there is a huge square that could be much more vibrant but remains bear. Fisherman's Bastion was much more impressive in my opinion.

Near the museum of Fine Arts Hősök tere (Heroes' Square) is noteworthy for its Millennium Monument with statues featuring the Seven chiefs of the Magyars. Home to political evens and rallies, access by public transportation makes for a quick visit.

I could spend the whole day taking pictures and meeting other tourists at this square alone. But, better still, there's a lovely agricultural park close by with a peaceful flowing river. It's one of the stops (I think #9) on the hop on hop off tour. Budapest generally is a surprisingly great tourist city. Would definitely visit here again.

One of the main landmarks in Budapest.
Good to visit if you are a history lover. And look forward to information on different topics.
We had our good time at this place.
You can plan a visit during your next trip to Budapest 👍

One of the best places of Budapest. The founder of Hungary, Arpad is to be seen and a lot of other attractions, museum for arts and gallery both in opposition to each other. You must see the Museum of music 200 meters on the red hand side that good small Restaurant ein fantastic Show.

Huge celebration square built in honor of 1000 years of Hungary. Next to it you can find Metro line M1 which is the oldest metro line build in continental Europe. It is also a part of UNESCO World Heritage.

Excellent spot dedicated to the real Heroes. The area was pretty big in the center of many roads .
Pretty interesting site with some really nice statues. It's an open area and at winter, it was freezing.....

Beautiful and famous square dedicated to Hungarian heroes. Stunning architecture and sculpture and close to the city park. The metro station of the same name where you can get the beautiful M1 is located just opposite the square, so definitely worth a visit when exploring Budapest…

The place was truly magnificent. Though we couldn't enjoy it much because of the extreme heat during midday, but a must visit while in Budapest.

HEROES' SQUARE
The square is located at the far end of Andrassy Avenue, adjacent to City Park, and it stands as one of the prominent squares in Budapest. It's renowned for its iconic Millennium Monument adorned with statues depicting Hungarian national leaders, as well as the Memorial Stone of Heroes, which is often mistakenly referred to as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. On the left and right sides of the square are the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Art. Be cautious, as in Budapest, there are three additional squares named Heroes' Square.

No tickets needed, free access to the square. Easy access from the Hop on Hop off bus, it stops right by the square. Tip: public bathrooms are available if you are in need 😊. We went through the week, the end of September 2023. There were not too many tourists. Beautiful spot, great sculptures. A must see when in Budapest.

Must see and visit. Do spend some time admiring the statues of Magyar kings and the archangel above them all.

Totally worth it! As you watch the hero's square, on left hand there is the museum of fine arts, it's a waste of time and money... Only a room is Worthing inside the museum and nothing more..

The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a large, ornate market hall that is full of stalls selling food and souvenirs. It's a great place to explore and buy local products, and there's always lots of activity going on here. The walkthrough tour is very informative, giving you a good look at the building's history as well as insights into the food stalls.
What a great market ! A mixture of true Hungarian foods such as salami’s , sausages and fruit & veg stalls . Heaps of stores selling the best of Hungarian Paprika. Up stairs is more tourist gifts etc and traditional Hungarian food stalls . A not to miss when in Budapest!

A beautiful and large market, intended for visiting tourists. The place is clean, tidy. On the first floor there are lots of stalls selling meat / sausage and stalls selling mainly paprika souvenirs. On the second floor lots of amazing and unique souvenirs as well as fast and delicious food stalls.
The place is worth a visit.
experience.

This interesting market is located at one end of Elizabeth Bridge. The building is fairly ornate, especially the roof.
It is built on two levels - the ground floor features fresh food in all its guises and the second floor features clothes, leather goods and lots more!
On the second floor there is also a fast food court featuring authentic street food - well recommended for a bite to eat.
You'll find souvenirs here will be much cheaper than the shops.
Definitely worth a visit.

A great shopping area with much of joy and tasty bakery products. I enjoyed their special Hungarian cake and cookies. I loved the place, it’s just by the Danube river where you can take the cruise to explore the city and see the popular landmarks such as the citadel and the bridges.

Impressive building with an amazing range of local products, souvenirs and foods to try. Great to walk around, shop and eat typical things like Langos! I bought Hungarian sausage and Paprika! Bear in mind some stalls in the centre sell the exact same products than other stalls in the back / corners for a higher price.

The market hall has 3 levels and is really huge. Everyone will find something for themselves here, we have delicious Hungarian dishes, many different souvenirs, spices, Hungarian sausages, sweets and clothes. Definitely everyone who is in Budapest should visit this wonderful place!

It's a nice place to visit. Aside from selling local foods, there are plenty of stores selling all sorts of souvenirs with prices on average better than on Vaci street.
Quite a few dining options but it can get busy during lunch time so I recommend avoiding that time.

This place was amazing!! Wonderful smells, terrific people, excellent food and the place is huge..... Sausage, meat, goulash and music. Guy played excellent music on a violin while we ate. This is a must when traveling to Budapest. Stop by the huge green bridge next door going over the Danube!!!!! We loved it here and the locals that was very kind...... Safe travels..............100% a must stop for any culture.

Interesting place, many shops lot of variety as for example: Grocery, Butche shops, local food bistro, souvenirs. Nice architectural. I do recommend visiting. Keep in mind that although the Central Market is opening early in the morning, starting 6 AM, only few shops are available that time. Most of them are opening later than 9.
Robert Voicu — Google review
Large market in Central Budapest selling food, linen and souvenirs. There are some eateries on the top floor but the number is limited. The market has wide aisles and is very clean. There is that wonderful smell of smoked meat. The other floors are accessible by escalator but you need to search for them.

My husband and I are big foodies - so naturally, we loved it!!! Most of the people working there know English so they can explain the differences between products and help you make the right choice.
Also, if you're getting tired of bringing back the souvenirs in the form of magnets, this is where you'll get everything done! A bag of sweet, smoked paprika, goulash paste, salami... you can truly bring a taste of Hungary back home to share the experience with friends and family.

I liked this place, it’s a beautiful large indoor market with plenty options. If you love fresh goods, people watching, shopping, photo opportunities, or just sightseeing in amazing places, you will enjoy visiting the Great Market Hall.
The downstairs is primarily groceries, and it is a good place to buy some goodies to take home, like paprika! I recommend it for buying souvenirs, it’s a lot cheaper than other places and duty free.
The upstairs is half food court and half vendors selling local goods including fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, hot foods.
No matter if it rains or shines, the Great Market Hall is a great option, and definitely one of the top Budapest attractions!

Lots of meat, vegetables, fruits, spices, etc you can buy here at ground floor. At 1sr floor there are some restaurant where you can eat traditional Hungarian dishes. It was reasonable and so tasty. There are also many souvenir shop where you can find the wonderful present to your friend. You should not miss coming to the Central market hall when you come to Budapest. I’m sure you will be able to spend wonderful time here. Highly recommended.

Definitely a must visit for any tourist, especially to understand the culture better.
There is an area serving authentic Hungarian food - that was truly an experience I enjoyed. Don't forget to try the spicy Paprika and the Goulash. Incredible stuff.

Worth a visit if you need souvenirs or wanna check out for local market products. Lots of butchers, vegetable stands but most of all souvenirs, so that I am not sure how much it ist still been loved my local Hungarians. But they have a cute restaurant where you can try local dishes, listen to some live music and relax before or after discovering Budapest by feet. The building is nice, but “nicest market hall Europe”- nope ;-)

It is a great place to buy a lot of daily needs. Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Meat are all available. A wide variety of products are available. Fresh fish is also available at the basement of the market. It is a popular destination for the tourists and there are several different varieties of souvenirs available. Best time to visit is on Fridays and Saturdays.

Great place to visit, especially for souvenirs, a good place to taste the traditional Hungarian sausage which is delicious! The market is huge, it resembles a train station - you can buy everything from fruit and vegetables to dairy and traditional meat products, spices, handwork and many souvenirs. You can buy sachets with Hungaria's traditional spice - paprika (both hot and mild) and matching wooden spoons, traditional folk costumes or wooden doll cases. It is a must if you visit Budapest!

Excellent building with a great amount of space. First floor is excellent for getting your day to day items, and the second floor has a ton of food items, gifts, household goods, and some clothing/purses/etc. The top floor, during peak times, can get VERY claustrophobic as the isles aren’t very wide and they’re lined on both sides with stalls and shops. The place seems very clean, but there’s no heat, so come prepared.

Amazing building inside and out, more sausages than you can believe and a statue of a man holding an egg...whats not to love. The place to get your souvenirs and fridge magnets. Pretty busy on our visit but a nice place to while away an hour.

Plenty of choice for local and national Hungarian food. Great location near the river with typically fabulous public transport to the door.
Upstairs, you will find every conceivable tourist item available to buy, if that's your thing.
Overall, not too bad a visit.

Look, I’m pretty too the point I’m not going to glorify this market because it’s in a city I’ve never been. To me, it’s a tourist trap. Full of things I’ll just never need. Most of the items are overpriced. I won’t sell you the line of “it’s a must see attraction” because it’s not. There is lots of fruit and meat stalls here. Spices, t shirts, magnets etc etc. we had chocolate and smoothies here. On the top level they have a little food court area, lots of people around so I found it overwhelming. Nobody hassles you to buy items, that’s the good thing or runs after you for money like most tourist trap places. When you first enter the market there is a dark curtain you’ve to push over like your entering somewhere you shouldn’t be or something, I don’t think that’s needed now 😅 I nearly knocked myself out the thing was so heavy. Perhaps it’s good to pass time, pass some hours by looking at everything. For me I was bored after 15 minutes and wanted to explore.

The local market for food and traditional items remains vibrant. As a tourist there are Local artisans and craftsmen handmade goods such as textiles, and handicrafts available. overall different experience.

The souvenirs are definitely geared towards the tourists..there are numerous sellers of paprika everywhere. As a market it feels somewhat authentic, but like all central markets in cities, they make the money from the tourists, with a handful of real stalls for the locals. Worth a visit for sure! But don't expect to get a deal.

The expansive three-level market hall is a treasure trove for visitors, offering a wide array of delights—from mouthwatering Hungarian dishes and spices to unique souvenirs, sausages, sweets, and clothing. A must-visit spot in Budapest, catering to diverse tastes and interests, ensuring a delightful experience for all.

We've got the famous hungarian smoked paprika which smells amazing and very happy with it, as well as a bottle of Tokaji wine which we were going to drink when we get back to the hotel, we were really looking forward to it and very disappointingly we did not like it and it wasn't cheap. We've got some "beluga caviar" as well which we were told no need to be refrigerated and it taste like the real stuff, no it doesnt, so don't fall for that trap. We bought Mangalica sausage which tastes really good and it's good quality but way overpriced. We paid nearly £20 for only 0.258 kg which makes it £80/kg. Friendly sellers but ripping you off.

It's a beautiful place, but wouldn't recommend to buy or eat here as it's really just for tourists.
- A lot of stalls sell exactly same stuffs, and the prices can be very different from each stalls.
- Food court upstairs, the prices are not affordable, you can have better options in the area outside of the market.
- For the non food part upstairs, it's very narrow to walk around and some owners stand on the walk way as the stall is too small when there is people inside.
Not to mention a lot of people just like to stop in the middle of the walk way and chatting.
Overall, it's just for the experience to visit one of the famous places in Budapest, but won't buy or eat anything here as the prices are "tourist price".
Can take good pictures from upstairs.

Inferior architecture compared to the Valencia Mercado Central. More touristy items for sale here as well, but still visited by locals. In terms of food, you will find many regular foods and fewer delicacies (depending on what you prefer). Also visit the cellar (there are stairs here and there).
