How long is the drive from Alesund to Lillehammer?
The direct drive from Alesund to Lillehammer is 226 mi (363 km), and should have a drive time of 5 hrs 55 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Alesund to Lillehammer, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with Stranda, as well as top places to visit like Saksa and Trail Head to Varden Molde Panorama, or the ever-popular Aksla Viewpoint, Alesund.
Stranda, a municipality in Norway's Møre og Romsdal county, is nestled within the picturesque Sunnmøre region. The administrative center, Stranda village, serves as a hub for this area which comprises three smaller villages - Hellesylt, Geiranger, and Liabygda. Visitors can stay at the local Stranda Hotel to enjoy flexibility in exploring the surroundings based on weather and snow conditions.

Best stops along Alesund to Lillehammer drive
The top stops along the way from Alesund to Lillehammer (with short detours) are Geirangerfjord, Aksla Viewpoint, Alesund, and Hunderfossen Adventure Park. Other popular stops include Trollstigen, Atlanterhavsveien, and Seven Sisters Waterfall.
Wonderful views from this outlook at the top of mount Aksla in all directions, out to sea and over Alesund. You need to climb 418 steps to reach the top, but these are in a good condition and numbered at intervals so that you know your progress. There are several resting points on the way up where you can take in the views too.
At the top there is a restaurant which was closed when we were there, but panoramic views are available. It was a sunny day during our visit with glorious blue skies over the sea. To return you can go back down the steps, or wander down woodland behind on a more gradual return to Alesund itself.
At the bottom of the steps is a pleasant park with a statue of Rollo the viking who became the first ruler of Normandy because of links to France.

Even through the fog, it was a beautiful sight to see from the top. There's a few areas to explore around the top, there's old na.zi bunkers, which my children enjoyed exploring, 418 steps to tier them out too.
The cafe is OK. The cakes were nice, the coffee needs improving!
Kelly Starfox — Google review
Aksla...the mountain top, it covers the entire view of fjords and islands around Alesund. City train is available to reach at the top and stairs goes all the way down to the sentrum.
You can eat a lot of blue berries here as well :-)
Engr Zain — Google review
You could either get to the Aksla viewpoint in Ålesund by walking 418 steps up the mountain or take the easy route by car or bus, then you’ll be starting from the top. Amazing view! You can take great panoramic pictures of Ålesund from the viewpoint.
Maria K — Google review
OMG, what a great viewpoint. Only 418 steps to the top and most of them have been renovated in recent years. So whilst the track is steep and zigzagging, it’s not too strenuous and there are many places to stop, look or sit. The views are breathtaking especially at sunset. So worth doing and will be a highlight of your visit!
Irene Krajewska — Google review
Be prepared this is a good up hill workout which is worth it for the pics you can take and the views x
Shaun The Bus Driver — Google review
One of perhaps 3 best-known views in Norway. Not to be missed. Beside the inclement stairs, there's also the much gentler asphalted road from the back side.
HERM PAZ — Google review
Fantastic view, well worth the trek up the 408 steps. I have a fear of hights and could manage it, it’s not too narrow and there are some seats on the way to rest. You can either pay 100 NOK to access the view on top or you can buy something in the cafe and then go up the stairs inside. Alternatively, you can go a bit higher up and enjoy the view for free.
Monika S — Google review
Great view, must see! We drove up there instead of taking the stairs because we only stayed a few hours in Ålesund. It’s a bit icky that you have to pay to get the best view. It’s fine if the money go to the kommune, but if it’s a private establishment it’s really really trashy. Especially since you couldn’t even enjoy a coffee or a meal there. We did pay to get in tho, we weren’t gonna miss that.
Alina Voroneanu — Google review
Fantastic views from up here, not only over Ålesund, but the sea to the North, East and South.
We were here on a clear day and the views were truly incredible. We walked along the hill from the stadium so had great views each way.
We also explored the various bunkers by the view point. I glad that they’re open to have a look around. Some of them are quite big, so bring a torch!
Mike RC — Google review
Easy to access, we were with our dog and we walked up there without any problem. It was in late march so the snow melted and it was not slippery. That day was rainy and lots of wind so be prepared in case… but really beautiful view.
Ophélie Lahaie — Google review
With cafe and scenic view of the fjord and the city on top. You just need a bit of hike going up but you won’t even sweat. Easy and kid friendly.
Meriam Dayao — Google review
We took a city sightseeing train to the top rather than walk the 418 steps. Views are stunning
TeresaJane Farinha — Google review
Beautiful views. The stairs up are a challenge...but there are plenty of seats along the way to take a breather. Well worth the walk up if you're able to do it. We also found a bunker from the war. Used our flashlights on our phones and crawled in.
Linda Parsons — Google review
Beautiful views, try the stairs if you have time and are brave enough,it seems better when it's not packed. Otherwise, you can use the hop on hop off bus or the cute train. The views are breathtaking, and just below it, you'll see some war bunkers( for the history fanatic like me). It's a hikers haven with so many trails.
Saksa, located in Møre og Romsdal, offers a stunning drive from Stranda to Urke that takes about an hour. The area provides opportunities for wild camping and medium to long hikes in steep terrain with well-marked paths and stairs in some areas. The climb is challenging, approximately 1100 meters long and narrow at points, offering a wonderful panoramic view. It's recommended for experienced hikers who enjoy a fun challenge and beautiful views.
Quite the challenging hike of 5-6 hours, but got a decent path and was a fun challenge. Beautiful views

You gotta be ready for walking on steep terrain, but it's totally worth it 👌. Don't choose a rainy day.

Delightful little museum. Inside the main building is presented history of Molde and local area. Mostly about fish industry.
However, outside is the true gem- real historical buildings transported to this location. The houses were mostly donated with furniture inside and everyday items as they were.
The guides were great, do talk with them.
4 stars ⭐️ because the museum is probably the only thing worth visiting around the area and it can’t be compared to the large museums in capital cities.

Very fine cat, gets a 😻 out of 😺
The actual museum is also fine. I guess. If you’re into that sort of thing. Having a very fine cat on the premises elevates it above the competition as far as I’m concerned.

The Atlanterhavsveien is a remarkable road that connects the mainland to Averøy island through eight bridges. The bridges, which curve and bend like sea serpents, span across 17 islets between Vevang and Averoya. This scenic coastal route offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and has been hailed as one of the world's best road trips by media outlets such as The Guardian.
Amazing road, one of the things which you are obliged to see in Norway. Don't miss it.
Kamil NOWAK — Google review
Yes,the bridge is not as it appears on social media but we are glad we visited. Quiet thrilling to drive on it and one can appreciate the engineering marvel only when there. If you have that extra time just go for it.

The Atlantic Ocean Road (Atlanterhavsveien in Norwegian) is a famous scenic highway in Norway that spans the municipalities of Averøy and Hustadvika. This road is renowned for its stunning coastal views, dramatic landscapes, and architectural design.
Connecting a series of islands and islets, the Atlantic Ocean Road is known for its several bridges, causeways, and viaducts. One of the most iconic features is the Storseisundet Bridge, which gives the illusion of rising dramatically from the sea.
The road is a popular tourist attraction, offering a picturesque drive along the Norwegian coastline. It's often considered one of the most beautiful and exhilarating drives in the world.

The Seven Sisters Waterfall is a magnificent natural wonder that features seven distinct streams cascading down approximately 250 meters into the Geirangerfjord. The breathtaking beauty of this waterfall is indescribable and must be seen in person to truly appreciate its grandeur. It is a stunning display of nature's power and majesty, with each stream flowing gracefully yet forcefully over the rocky cliffs.
No words can describe the place, you must visit it

Lovely memories first cruise with my wonderful husband. Didn't get another he developed lung cancer and passed away. We would have all our holidays cruising
Wendy Brown — Google review
The Seven Sisters is an interesting feature but not an exceptional one in this most beautiful environment. They're part of this majestic fjord and, really, you find quite a few more impressive spots. I guess they are most spectacular at certain times of the year, maybe in May/June, when the snow is melting and thus feed the waterfalls with a greater volume of water.

Beautiful. Saw much more beautiful waterfalls than this in Norway.

Neha Agarwal — Google review
The "Seven Sisters" are among the most photographed waterfalls in Geirangerfjorden. They are close to Knivsflå, the abandoned farm. No less than seven waterfalls descend into the fjord. They have an average fall of around 250 meters and are an impressive sight when the water levels are high. The water level is dependent on the snow thaw and precipitation and may affect whether it is possible to see all seven falls equally clearly. The falls are naturally more visible during the major snow melting period in May-July and can be best observed by taking a boat trip on Geirangerfjord. The legend has it that the "Seven Sisters" were all unmarried, and the waterfall on the other side of the fjord has been called "The Suitor" after several unsuccessful attempts to court the sisters. If you want to see all the sisters and their suitor it is probably better to go when there is the greatest flow of water, such as when there is snowmelt in spring. Even if you do go when there are less sisters, don't worry - they are still spectacular.
SUHAS Dubey — Google review
This is one place you should stop when going from Gangtok to Lachung. You break journey to enjoy the waterfall. The best part is the gusty winds push the water spray to the spot where you stand. The water fall by itself is beautiful, captivating and very, very chill. It is a very calm serene place. It is situated in North Sikkim on the way to Lachung from Gangtok. Very natural waterfall. Its called seven sisters waterfalls, because it falls in seven steps. Very natural eye catching sight. Ensure you stay long to enjoy the beauty of Sikkim. Cleanest state of India - Sikkim. This water wall is one of the very famous waterfalls of Sikkim and you just can don't miss it. Seven sister fall is wonderfull place for tourist.nature wonder and beautifull.good to take some photo with amazing nature.

The Seven Sisters (Norwegian: De Syv Søstrene or Dei Sju Systrene, also known as Knivsflåfossen) is the 39th tallest waterfall in Norway. The waterfall consists of seven separate streams, and the tallest of the seven has a free fall that measures 250 metres (820 ft).
Amit Mishra — Google review
When you will approach towards Geiranger you will spot this on your Left and The Suitor on your right. The seven sisters waterfall is consist of 7 big and small water fall. And overlooking it there a waterfall shaped bottle. There is myth that the Suitor proposed seven sisters for marriage but they refused. You will see a face and bottle shape water shape waterfall right in front of it.

Amazing place ! Pure nature, forest, mountains and powerful waterfalls - Norway is a wonderful country
Geirangerfjord is a renowned fjord in Norway that offers breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, verdant plant life, and magnificent waterfalls. It is part of the National Tourist Routes and can be accessed via Trollstigen. Alesund, the art nouveau city located near Geirangerfjord, boasts rich history and culture with beautiful architecture. Travelers can take a short morning flight to reach Alesund for less than $100, including luggage.
The photos isn’t doing the scenery any justice to be honest, and describing it won’t make it any better. This experience is beyond words.
The minute we landed in Alesund, every surrounding was just breathtaking. And when we travelled to Geiranger through the fjord, just wow!
We came at the beginning of May and wasn’t expecting to still see snow, but this is like having best of both worlds, see snow like it’s winter but having the temperature of spring. Just lovely!
Timothy Lie — Google review
it feels unreal hiking up there to see the beautiful waterfalls. it's worth it. we wohld definitely walk up there again.

Can’t rate it less than five stars despite the number of tourists. The boat ride is recommended as the best way to see both the cascades and fjord, as well as the various hiking trails nearby to get different angles of the fjord and meet some friendly llamas on the way.

This Fjord is a must visit port, (if your booking a one off Norwegian cruise). Steep sides, waterfalls and awesome beauty, what more do you want? The town is small but has an awesome waterfall you can walk up alongside to the top of town. An all round great day is guaranteed.

the only drawback about this place is that it is always crowded and there are always lots of cruises in the area.

Fabulously beautiful place! As an older person (68yo), with bad knees, the hiking was somewhat difficult for me, considering that NO PLACE in Norway is level ground :). It was worth the soreness to do the hiking that I did and to see the Fjord Center with the water rushing right next to it. I took so many photos because it was one photogenic scene after another

It is an enjoyable cruise and amazing view of the Geirqnger Fjord, Seven Sisters and surrounding mountains. We were told that it is remarkable that there is still a lot of snow in the mountains.
It is very breezy and please wear warm clothing even its Spring time (visited on 14th May 2023, Sunday).
Another Fjord that you should not miss it.

One of the nicest Fjords, it's worth starting the day early to take a breath of this beautiful country. I would recommend to come first with a cruise ship to get a first impression and then later on by car on a individual itinerary, to get a much deeper look into the history of Gairanger and the other Fjords. Keep in mind hat Norway is an expensive country but worth it to see once in a lifetime.

Took the car ferry through the fjord as it passes by the waterfalls and farm buildings. Commentary was interesting enough but we weren't overly blown away by the waterfalls and the scenery was just nice. Geiranger had masses of cruise ship tourists and buses blocking the roads and getting near the viewpoints of the fjord was too difficult.

The view from the observatory was very beautiful.
A magnificent, peaceful, cool view unfolds beneath the observatory, with another touch from the Dalsniva observatory.
The observatory was narrow and long adjacent to the winding side of the road, so you can enjoy the view from various angles, and since it is a bit of a highland, you can enjoy the beautiful view while feeling the breeze blowing.
The parking lot of the observatory was good because it had a relatively spacious parking space, was well-maintained, and there were some tables where family members and relatives could sit and talk.
The situation in this spare parking lot was like many fjords.
There was a small waterfall on the side of the road around the observatory, and it was amazing that a rainbow appeared around the waterfall.
As I drove down from the observation spot, the view from another angle out of the car window was beautiful too, so I pulled over and admire it all the down.

Fabulous views. The ride up goes through nine hairpin turns and takes about a half hour. If you get car sick, may not be the thing for you. Once you are up to the view point you can see the end of the Forge and around the corned, the three sisters. There is a fall across from those fals cakes the suitor that supposedly was trying to get one of the three sisters hand in marriage. Lol
There is a nice glass bottom stream that makes into a small fall itself and people throw money into it. Enjoy. Well worth the trip up.

Best fjord view i have ever witnessed. You just have to follow the path behind the view point. Hike around 10-15minutes and you will see more into the depth of the Fjord, 100% must see and do that small walk. Not even 1km far.

Yes, the views here are spectacular but can get verrrrry crowded with tour buses. Parking is very limited. If you managed to get parking, your car will most likely get blocked in by the many tour buses and you'll have to wait for them to leave.

A lot of fun for the entire family. They have something for kids (if they can walk they can do it with some help), for non trained adults and even for climbers/trained adults.
They do not sell much food, only hotdogs, but there are grills and tables/benches so it is recommended to bring your own food.
There are only two toilets and not much parking.
On a sunny day you need to order a ticket online before 10am because they have a limit on about 150 people and it does fill up. It is anyway recommended to do that because it is cheaper.
ChiliTheDog — Google review
Very nice place for a sunny day. One issue that kept happening is that the kids did not gain enough speed (or simply are too lightweight) to reach the end of the zip lines and got stuck in the middle, the crew came assisting every time. This happened too many times!! . But all in all- we had a very good time.

Suitable location for families with children from age of 3 and up. Suitable also for adults interested in physical group activities. Have some barbecue cuts to place on grill. Place offer grills with wood all day long. One can take a break and grill some. Have water with you unless you want to buy it locally.
Protection helmets had a funky smell or I might be a little picky. If you have your own certified climbing helmet bring it. 😊
During July and August you can buy strawberries from local fields on the way to park. This way you can have a fruit snak on a break.

Four level of difficulties. It is good for couple of hours to half day trip where you can bring your own food and cook. You can also visit near by strawberry farms and buy fresh delicious strawberry. The place is great.
I gave the place 4 stars for two reasons:
1. There are two toilets that are shared, and located at the entrance of the park.
2. Food are limited to snacks, coffee and Ice cream.

A great place to spend time with friends and/or family, from young to old.
Activities involve, climbing, zip-lining, jumping, dangeling, all in safety of straps and hooks connected to a safety line which goes trough all courses.
There are activities on the ground for people less prone to hights. Obstical course, inflated billow to jump on, bow and arrow.
Tables have been scattered around a small hutt who can provide cover for the sun or rain. In front of the hutt there is s grill that can be used by anyone.
I found three downsides:
Prizes goes by hight, so everyone over 140cm will pay full prize.
It can get pretty crowded, and wating on a platform in a tree can become a reality.
They don't open the park before 11:00 (am).

Great place if you like adventure. They show you an explanation video and off you go. You can do as many different trails as you want. From easy to difficult. The ziplines in between the obstacles are very amusing. We loved it.

Fun activity with good acommodities like benches and firepits. The cashier in the ticket booth was really moody, but the rest of the staff was very helpful and kind. Would get a five star review if there was more toilets in the park, not only at the parking. Also it would be great if it had atleast one more yellow trail.

A lot of good zip-lines. Green and blue courses most fun, red is physically challenging not that much mentally.

Amazing place! You are surrounded by nature!
When you arrive you have about 20mn training with an instructor, then you are on your own.
4 different levels from easy to hard.
You have two gas grill than you can use on site and a small "kiosk" where you can buy coffee or waffles etc..
Very nice way to see what Norway has to offer from another perspective !
Rushing through a deep ravine, this striking river is seen from a viewing deck & restaurant above.
A must do stop on your way to Trollstigen. If you blink, you will pass the entrance.

The Rauma Railway is a picturesque train ride in central Norway that spans 114km from Andalsnes to Dombas. This journey is ideal for railway enthusiasts, as it passes through six tunnels and crosses over 32 bridges, showcasing stunning fjords, forests, valleys, lakes and mountains along the way. During June to August, there's also a summer tourist train with commentary available from Andalsnes to Bjorli.
Its a one full day train journey from Oslo Central Station to Andalsnes. You can book ticket online or from the NSB counter in OSLO central station OSLO S. They staff at the NSB explains you very well about the travel. From OSLO S you should take train to Dombas and from Dombas to Andalsnes. The route from Dombas to Andalsnes is known as the wildest and most beautiful train journey in Norway. The best time to visit is in Aug. I got to know when i spoke to the local people in Dombas. The train is very comfortable and they have restaurant in trains. You can buy coffee and food from the restaurant in the train which is very comfortable and convenient. The seats can be adjusted and spacious enough. The train staffs are very friendly and they will answer all your concerns about travel in the best and polite way. Very friendly staffs. I really enjoyed this journey. Looking forward to visit during Aug to enjoy the real beauty of Norway.

Trollstigen is a world-renowned mountain road in Norway that boasts numerous platforms to take in its beauty. This well-known seasonal route is famous for its hairpin turns and stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The road was completed after an eight-year effort in 1936 and features impressive feats of engineering, including 11 sharp bends and a steep gradient of 1:12.

Romsdalseggen Ridge is a must-visit for hikers in Andalsnes, Norway. This challenging hike offers breathtaking views and is not for the faint of heart due to its steep and narrow ridge. The trail takes around 4-5 hours to complete, with an option to take a cable car part of the way. Hikers should be prepared for muddy and crowded conditions, but the stunning panoramic views make it all worth it.
Absolutely stunning Norway hike on ridge, not to be missed on a sunny day. The ridge portion is challenging but rest, less so. Completed to the cable car in ~4 hours, but decided to save the $30 and hike the rest of the way (added another hour). In retrospect, would have preferred to take the cable car as it was very muddy, crowded and too many slippery tree roots. I am sure it make take 8 hours if you go slow and stop a lot, but if you have basic fitness, you can do it much shorter time (there was no rush and we stopped for a 20 minute lunch). Just a great day-- go!

Towering waterfall with 2 drops & a total height of over 600m, cascading into Mardalstjønna lake.
First of all, this might not be fitting for everyone. The hike is quite advanced if you're not used to walk in the woods.
From the parking it's a 2 km long uphill walk which isn't recommended for children and elderly. It's not impossible in any way, just a bit hard for weaker or not trained people.
Strollers and wheelchairs can access the first sight of the waterfall as seen in my first two pictures.
At the "Stick Ut" sign, however, the rest of the walk is impossible to do for elderly or kids , if they even made it up to here!
The rock on the above pics is the "entry" to the trail.
So, the narrow trails leads through rough stones and slippery mud. (see pics.)
Here you need good walking shoes. Casual shoes are ok kind of, if they have a good grip.
If you've made it this far, then you're gonna love the rest of the walk.
The sight gets more and more amazing the closer you get.
Just be sure to either bring a change of clothes in your backpack or in the car. You're gonna be more and more wet the further you go.
If you have a system camera it's a must to have a waterproof protection.
You constantly have to clean the lens from the water.
We picked the left trail from the sight place and got quite close the fall. But again, beware of the slippery ground!
The right trail gets you closer to the fall, it ends up with rocks and stones, so it's up to you how far you're going. Just be safe!
If there's a downside it's the fact we only see half(!) of the waterfall from this 3 hour hike we did. Due to heavy clouds. They blocked the upper waterfall. So, if it's cloudy the same thing could happen to you.
But hey, it's worth a visit anyway!
If you come in a vehicle you have to pay a road toll, 40 NOK.
All and all this is a waterfall you don't want to miss. The pics were taken in early August 2019. Makes me wonder if it could be even more amazing in the early summer.

The view you get from across the fjord already is amazing. We were there in the winter and were the only tourists, it was very calming. I took some photos of the (frozen) waterfall with my drone, it was breathtaking. I can imagine that in summer, the waterfall (and the hiking track to get close to it) is even more beautiful, we unfortunately couldn’t use it because of all the snow.

Wish the fact the waterfall is "closed" most of the year is better advertised. The water is rerouted leaving but a trickle. The statue was also removed - presumably due to safety concerns.

(Translated by Google) For me one of the most beautiful roads in Norway! Shortly behind Sunndalsöra the route takes spectacular serpentines up to the plateau, then along lakes (still frozen in mid-June) through beautiful mountain landscapes. The traffic was very limited, we hit maybe 5 cars. Because we were so "early" in the year, the journey was also pleasantly adventurous; there was still centimeter-thick, bare ice in the small tunnel and at the other end there was still meter-deep snow next to the road. In the evening it was bitterly cold and it snowed lightly. Freestanding with the camper is no problem, there are spaces on every corner.
The road (toll approx. 10 EUR) is not asphalted, but is in good condition and can be used by any car (our MB Sprinter). I wouldn't go up there with very large/long motorhomes and caravan trailers, as there are some pretty narrow places and hairpin bends.

Lom Stave Church, also known as Lom stavkyrkje, is a medieval Christian church made of wood that features unique timber framing and corner-posts called stafr or stav. Located in Lom, it boasts an intricately carved 18th-century interior with steep roofs. The church was built in the 12th century and has been restored over time to preserve its beautiful architecture.
I was driving through Lom, from Balestrand to Geiranger and had to stop to check out another amazing stave church. The Lom stave church was built in the 12th century and restored throughout the centuries, The architecture is absolutely beautiful. Must see.
Christian Ardito — Google review
We visited the church on 16th May 2023 (Tuesday). It's interesting to know that the church was built in the 17th century and the last restoration was carried out in the 1970s. As a result, there were many artifacts found underneath the ground that gave a glimpse of the church's history.
The church is build totally using wood, and it's still well preserved largely due to the dry weather in Lom and the effort of locals.
It's a beautiful church, and please do visit it to admire the interior, it's painting and amazing effort and expertise to build the church in the 17th century.

Definitely one of the most beautiful stave churches still in existence. The entrance fee is worth it.
There are some persons of interest laid to rest here. Like Pål Aukrust, the old mayor, his biography is great reading and Vera Henriksen, her authorship have brought joy to several generations of lovers of history.
It's a bit unsettling to a muslim grave in the churchyard though. That speaks volumes about how little selfworth the Norwegian church have left.

It was a great sunny & warm day when we visited the stave church in Lom. The style is different compared to Gol or Heddal, but still amazing. We walked from our hotel to visit it, so we had no issues with parking and if you wait long enough you can catch times in between when the buses unload their tourists to enjoy the church virtually alone. To visit inside you need a ticket. Certainly worthwhile to see it.

Just freshly covered in tar pitch the old Stave church has a much darker appearance than most photos I've seen. A short walk from almost all hotels in Fossheim. Old headstones fill the walled grounds. Wasn't able to view the inside due to my travel schedule. If you're just passing through or staying overnight you shouldn't have any problems accessing the heavily monitored grounds proper, but they usually don't open the church doors till 10a. Plenty of benches around the outside of the grounds and parking is also plentiful. Nice bridge on a walking path very close by also. No entrance fees.

Visiting this church is truly a transport into the past. Due to where it is located with the gorgeous views of the surrounding hills and mountains coupled with the rushing river nearby, you can't help but feel time has stopped in this little town. Unfortunately, it was not open at the time we visited but just viewing the exterior and the stones in the cemetery, some of which are centuries old, was amazing!

Unfortunately the church interior was closed for the year already. But seeing the outside freshly tarred was so interesting. Amazing piece of history.
Patricia Nielsen — Google review
This stave church is very easy to get to. There is a very large carpark right outside that accommodates campervans and motorhomes. The oldest part of the church dates from 1150, but most is more recent. There is one stave and some of the murals, which are medieval, but most is from the time when Lom's population started to increase again in the 17th century after being decimated in The Black Death. The church was changed from Catholic to Lutheran in 1608, and the church started to change substantially. Short Catholic masses where the congregation stood gave way to long Lutheran masses, which necessitated benches, and the church had to be extended. A lot of the decoration seen in the church now was paid for by parishioners. I paid NOK60 as a senior (over 60), and I believe the full cost is NOK100. Worth it to see the interior, which is so very different from what we’re used to seeing in the UK. The lady taking the money speaks English and is helpful. There's a guidebook in every language. Also worth reading while you sit in the church drinking in the atmosphere.

Absolutely stunning! This church has a particular smell , a smokey smell. A smell you wont forget. The outside of the church has beautiful carvings. Around the church lays a graveyard. We didnt go inside unfortunately.
At the moment they are putting new tar on the church which i assume will give it the classical black look of a stave church again.

Viewpoint Snøhetta is a stunning architectural marvel made of rippled timber and mirrored glass, serving as an educational center and observation point commissioned by the Wild Reindeer Foundation. It offers breathtaking views of the valley and Mt. Snøhetta, accessible via a gentle 1.5km walk from the car park along a gravel trail off the E6 by Hjerkinn.
Magical spot - where time runs at a different pace.
The wood of the viewing point is now gently worn to a comfortable patina, the subtle smoke scent from the wood burning stove mixes in the air. Feeling secure and comfortable you can watch the icy majestic landscape.
Staff are excellent friendly and informative, its only a short walk up from the carpark but worth it (architecture at its best).

The viewpoint is an excellent example of how great architecture can integrate to nature and enhance the experience. 1,5 kilometer from the parking lot this beautiful shelter is placed. Its raw exterior blends naturally into the landscape and the warm and welcoming organic interior embraces the visitor. The warm fire in the fireplace just adds to the experience. The walk is easy with a gravel covered wide path. Do not get intimidated by all the Norwegians in the parking lot dressing up in fancy trekking gear. You can easily manage in normal warm clothes and a pair of sneakers. Because of the high altitude it will be chilly, even in the middle of summer so bring something warm. shorts and t-shirts will not be enough. Beside the reindeer watch, I was also listening to the guide from reindeer conservation institution I guess. And the explanation was very informative, interesting and well delivered.

The hike was bit crazy because of the strong wind but the view vas Amazing! And you can definitely go up with small children. But I take off one star because they did not let me and my dog go in to reheat ourselves. Because of the dog 😔

Fantastic view and place. 1.5km walk from parking, slightly uphill but good gravel walkway so even wheelchair users could come up. Great view. Dress well...even now in middle of July it was only 6 degrees celsius and windy.

A nice short walk up from the parking (about 1.5 km on a gravel road), and you learn about Norway on the way. If you can't read Norwegian, bring one of the many information pamphlets by the parking. The view and small building at the top is magnificent! Be on the lookout for Musk Oxen!

A short walk from the car park is rewarded with a spectacular view and a live Musk Ox cam. The building with the floating fireplace and organic design is worth the walk alone.
Sjoa Rafting AS is the perfect stay for an exciting trip! -both as a group of younger people and families.
The place has a lot of different activities, good and cozy facilities and an excellent staff!
Overall worth an experience. Thank you Sjoa Rafting AS and see you again!

I took my 7 year-old daughter and my parents for our first river rafting and ropes course experience at the family camp. We had the most amazing family time! I laughed until I cried when my 65 year-old dad did the 3-6 year-old section of the ropes course on accident. I screamed going over some of the rapids in the front of the boat. Jim, our guide, was personable and made the whole rafting experience even more enjoyable. My daughter made international friends as we mixed with other adventurous families in the dining hall. The accommodations were beautiful, relaxed, aesthetically pleasing and intentional. Murrietta, the owner, made us feel like family. Her and her husband who own both rafting locations are some of the sweetest people we have met-ever! I saw other reviews about spotty wifi but we though the wifi worked just great. I WILL be returning with other kids and husband on our next trip to do canyoning, bigger river rafting excursions, enjoy the hot tubs next to the river and possibly all the other adventures available.

I recently had the incredible opportunity to experience white-water rafting with Sjoa rafting, and it was an absolute thrill! I must say, my experience wouldn't have been as cool without our amazing guide Vinny, who made tboth rafting and canyoning unforgettable. Highly reccomended :)

What an experience! The river, nature and equipment is fantastic! But what tops it all is having a good guide. Pedro gave clear instructions, was funny and gave us a nice ride! Make sure to book the hottubs in advance for a nice warm up after a wet ride.

We had the most amazing weekend at Sjoa rafting. Firstly, we booked our package with rafting and canyoning just a few days before. This included all meals and accommodation. The reception was very helpful per email with booking and the pricing was a bargain! So definitely go for a package deal.
The place is pure beauty and picturesque, and the camp is just amazing. It’s put together perfectly and the logistics works smoothly. They have large groups and it’s impressive how it all just works out perfectly.
The food was tasty and the service is impeccable.
Our guide for the rafting was Ine, we loved her and had a blast out on the river. For the canyoning we were guided by Dave and Max who made us feel safe and taken care of as well as showing us a good time in the cold canyon. They were great!
My favorite part of Sjoa Rafting is without a doubt the people who work there, they are all so helpful, full of knowledge and experience, fun and enthusiastic. They are the heart and soul of the place, and I give a big thank you to all who made our weekend memorable and fun!
I can’t wait to come back soon again ☀️💛

This was my first time rafting, we did the full day experience and it was an awesome day start to finish. Much thanks to our guide Dave who truly was a hero all throughout the day. The camp is a great place with hot tubs, good food and all amenities you could need, whether you stay in the cabins or your own tent.

Thoroughly enjoyed rafting the Sjoa river. A tremendous experience - with gentle, smooth swirling pools; vertical rock faces of the canyons; fast white water rapids; plunging into deep troughs and then upwards and out. A truly unforgettable experience...
Clara - lovely receptionist and great organiser. Dave, best guide in the world ever and superb photos by Matt.
Thank you!

€300 for 1 fantastic day of rafting, two nights accommodation, 2 breakfasts, 1 dinner - and 6 beers cost €50 of that.

Wow! Truly amazing experience that way passed my expectations. The rafting was a real adventure and our guide Dave was a true hero.
A big bonus was the home base of Sjoa rafting AS that was a super cozy space with direct connection to the Sjoa river. Beautiful sundeck, nice little bar and camping spots just beside a small pond where u could use their free canoes to paddle around.
For being Norway the prices was very fair and I'm already looking forward to come back.

This a beautiful place, with happy and helpful staff. They have several options for overnight stay, and do not seem overpriced. Their guides for the rafting are fun and positive types that care as much for the fun of rafting, as your safety. Would definitely recommend this place.

Beautiful place, a lot of cabins, great tent places and exellent service. Didn't have time for drafting, but maby next time.
The country's oldest national park, with 10 peaks over 2,000m plus marked hiking & skiing trails.
Beautiful and huge space for hiking, too bad its now partially closed (due to covid?) so you cannot drive up to the Ronvasbu but you can walk/hike there or go by bike
Sebastian Mroczkowski — Google review
The mountain part of the park has some nice views but the majority of the marked "scenic route" leads you through villages. Very boring, not worth the ride.

The great place "Must " to visit with families.
Kids can come here , the road is not that much difficult, some part walk on the snow, some part walk on a small river.
This time is time for couldberry flowers , you can enjoy it ,take a picture.
The last past is difficult because you have to walk up all the time, but "Be strong " is fine.
# Prepare well for hiking shoes because all the way have a lot of stone if shoes are not good ,you can hurt your feet.
You can also hike visit another mountain ⛰️ around there.
Recommend for visit 🇳🇴♥️💕

It was a pit stop at Rondane. The confluence of at least 3 streams flowing down from the mountains into a free flowing beautiful river, is beautiful. It is a wet land area and rich in biodiversity.
The small wooden bridge across the river is lovely.
One can take pictures on a giant wooden chair.
All in all, a nice place for a brief stop.
There is a wonderful viewing spot near by from where one can see lots of mountain peaks.

Beautiful and amazing place. Approximately 5 hours from Oslo. A lot of hiking trails in the mountains.
I stayed at Rondvassbu, which was a great and cosy place to stay. Felt like being in a homey cottage. From Stange (which is th3 furthest place you can drive with your car) it is possible to rent a bike and cycle in to Rondvassbu.
If I stayed in Rondane for a week I would do day trips and walk from cabin to cabin.

Magnificent place. It's a tundra. Many beautiful places wort to visit. First park in Norway.
VaP Inbox — Google review
This is a beautiful park. There are a few things you should know though. Most of the walks are big. This is especially so since the trail is rocky, I mean super rocky! Like Sylvester Stalone was your hike! It's also marshy and muddy. An experienced hiker with a 15kg overnight backpack will be lucky to do 3km/hr on average. Furthermore, it's mostly above the treeline, temps drop in the evening and it gets windy if you're camping. Staying in the Hut is about 50 euros per night per person and breakfast is also expensive, so do bear that in mind. However, trails are extensive, well marked and views are stunning!

However, I recommend bringing a bycicle and beer. I find them quite expensive here :)

(Translated by Google) Another place on the map of Norway that you must see 😀 Very interesting, cool and worth seeing. The natural landscape is beautiful and the opportunity to walk... is priceless. Although the entire trip may take up to an hour. And that's the end of the advantages, now the disadvantages... Unfortunately, following the route costs money (which is hard to find in the information guides) for a 2+2 family it costs 180 NOK (a bit much) and the route is not for everyone because you have to go down and up wet and steep rocks and degrees. However, for those curious about what HELL looks like, I recommend it 👍😉

Kolejne miejsce na mapie Norwegii które trzeba zobaczyć 😀 Bardzo ciekawe, fajne i warte zobaczenia . Krajobraz natury piekny, a możliwość przejścia...bezcenna.

Our girls, aged 6 and 8, took the trip twice, so they could really play through the wild landscape and take it all in. We also had our large dog with us at 45kg. She coped well but was a little challenged on a few of the steep stairs.

An overall good ski area. Apart from the goal area of the Olympic, there is two important locations. Mittelstation and Skitorget that both have skishops with rental, cafeteria, ski school etc.
The kids area at Mittelstation isn't terribly good and belt was broken when we where there. The one at Skitorget is acceptable and has a both a kids transport belt and drag lift (button).
The Olympic downhill track (1a+1b) is definitely an asset to this area. Even though the top part (1a) was closed at our visit, it's rely awesome. Steep and icy - really really fast.
When we visited late January 4-5 slopes where closed, which makes the area kind of small. OK for 3 days with the family but not enough for a week. Not even close.
Tip: the rental shops at the two locations are the part of the same business and you can return equipment in both regardless of where it was picked up.
The cabin we rented had ski in/out but it was poorly marked, and not very smooth. We basically had to.make our own tracks.
In classic Norway-style, the cabin are poorly numbered and near impossible to find. It's like they don't want tourists....

Great place. Many different options for all levels. Though be aware that a lot of the red slopes could feel black on some parts. The Olympia slope is a classic but requires a skilled person to take. Can be a bit crowded in weekends, but weekdays the place isn't that populated so the slopes is quite clear.

It was really fun especially with our kids (5 and 2 yo). They got to enjoy most rides at their age and didn't feel left out like other theme parks with rides only suitable for older kids. Everything is in Norwegian but we got around fine. The kids (or you) will be humming the theme song for days after 😆 The food choices in the park were alright, and also *spoiler alert* they will be giving out a lollipop to each child who sits in the train ride.

Over 50 attractions & rides in a family park with a fairytale castle & Norwegian folk story theme.
A great day for the whole family. Our 7 y.o. enjoyed every minute, so did the grown ups. We never spent more than 12 minutes in queue, and it seems the park is built to spread the guests well out. The swimming pool area is first and foremost for kids. We had fun in the water, everything was clean, and the showers hot. Our main meal was the Burgers. Expensive, and nothing to write home about. The cheeseburger was OK, the chicken burger should be avoided. Overall friendly helpful staff, clean toilets and a functional app with map. All in all, recommended.

Nice and manageable sized theme park for children up to the teen age. The capacity on some of the rides are really poor and you have to wait for ever, which is frustrating with small kids (tractor and truck attractions in particular). Ridiculous small pizza for a 1 -person pizza.

This is a place for Norwegian kids to enjoy. The fun side of the park with some fantasy rides is not functional yet.
For an international adult who cannot speak or understand Norwegian, it has nothing much to offer. And on top of all, the place is really really cold. So please wear your warmest clothes if you want to enjoy, otherwise it will be hell.

We went there last sunday: a true SUNNY sunday. With our kids (3 and 5 years old) we had hardly any que waiting and they enjoyed many attractions. The park is definitely for the younger kids. We would definitely go again, and then: book a weekend ticket.
One thing which was a big disappointment is that the whole park (incl. Restaurants!!) closes at 17:00. Would be great to have for example just the central restaurant open as a nice closure of the day…

Hunderfossen Adventure Park is a magical little spot that takes the mythology of trolls and mixes it with snow and ice. I went with my wife and 9 month old child on the first day of reopening in February during a sort kf winter wonderland esq theme.
Within the park was an ice church, museum and bar. The church was really spectacular. It had ice sculptures, and well placed lights that set the building off . Whilst the park was made for children older than 9 month, as a family we enjoyed our time there!
My personal highlight was the giant troll statue. I'm fascinated in cultural mythologies and trolls is no exception. The downside is that the park didnt sell any postcodes with the troll on it which is odd since it is such a huge presence.
They topped the end of the day with a firework display in time with some music. That's always fun to watch against the back drop of mountains.

We were here last year. The employees in the restaurant of the hotel was not friendly and not accomodating. It felt like they always in a hurry or something. The restaurant do not have any exciting meny and the food is not delicious and expensive in terms of the quantity and the quality of the food. The room we've got was tiny for a family of 3. I recommend to eat outside the vicinity of the hotel because you will get more value for your money. The park itself have a different activities. It also have a pool for the kids to bathe and play. In my point of view, this hotel/park is average compare to the other places we've been. I don't think that we will go back to this place again in the near future.

Fantastic place to go skiing downhill. Slopes could be better prepared on those snowy days, but it's also understandable that preparation could have been difficult on those heavy snowy mornings.
Somewhere bettween the slopes you can find picnick/grill areas for lunch - very convenient if you want to varm up your sandwich or even make a new one or grill some sausages. Great variety of slopes👍

I like this place. Large enough for good skiing and very cosy atmosphere. Slopes are generally well maintained and in good shape. Usually not overcrowded except on weekends and during vacation time. Is getting more crowded every year, though.
Alexander Ramin — Google review
Poor quality on the preparation of the slopes. The recent year the quality of the preparation of the slopes clearly has decreased. Slopes are most likely prepared only every third night, which give bad quality on the slopes in weekends and during holidays with a lot of people.
