Alaverdi Monastery, a fortress-style structure dating back to the 11th century, is an impressive site not to be missed. The monastery boasts a towering basilica and features an on-site vineyard for wine production. While the interior showcases beautiful paintings, altars, and incense-filled air, visitors are required to dress modestly. Although the inside may be closed for renovations at times, the surrounding green areas offer a peaceful setting for prayer and reflection.
Incredible fortress-monastery. Parts of the complex date to its 6th century founding by St Joseph of Alaverdi, one of the Thirteen Assyrian Fathers. The cathedral church, dedicated to St George, is an 11th century construction and one of the Four Great Churches of Georgia. It was also the tallest church in Georgia until the completion of Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi in 2004.

this is very beautiful and mistic place, near there is a restaurant and they have delicious wine. try to go when there is no wind . 💗 I wish you a pleasant journey
Tako Poladishvili — Google review
I sorely wanted to visit this monastery as it was one of the few that were still producing wine. I really wanted some holy and blessed wine!
The grounds itself is beautiful and definitely worth walking around.
The insides, which we refrained from taking pictures out of respect, were beautiful. Paintings on the ceiling, altars on every corner and candle stands for you to light and place one (for a blessing i presume), and the incense that wafts through the air.
Sadly we didn't see any wine being made or sold on the grounds itself (not sure what I was actually expecting to see anyways), but across the road there's a wineshop where you can buy the wines made by this monastery the traditional way in a qvevry

What to rate about a cathedral, the house of God.
Very nice surroundings and green areas, well maintained. Lots of parking spots. Recommend to visit, have some minutes of prayer, walk outside, praise the Lord.
Hisham WAKED — Google review
This is a must see to appreciate history and culture. If you are religious, it's even better. It is being restored yet even still, the massive stone structure impresses your senses and awe. Be sure to appreciate the finely carved wooden furniture as well.
Across the road, enjoy a matsoni treat and some chai.

Great historical monument and religious center. The church is about a 16-story building high surrounded by fortress walls. There is a good restaurant just across the street to enjoy after sightseeing.

Beautiful place, parts of the monastery date back to 6th century, the present day cathedral was built in the 11th century. Unfortunately, a lot of work going on at the time of my visit, blocking the pathway around it. Hopefully I’ll come back in the future again!

A lovely monastery located not too far from Telavi. Interior is rather unimpressive but the history of this place and its settings make the visit worthwhile. There is an archeological section surrounding the main church that I hope in the future will be open for viewers.

In the west of the Alazani Valley is one of the most impressive churches in Georgia: the Cathedral of Alaverdi. At the beginning of the 11th century, Georgia enters its cultural and political goldenage, King Kvirike of Kakhetia had a 50-meter high cathedral built. This classically Georgian-style church will remain the tallest in Georgia for almost a millennium! The church has been beautifully restored, unfortunately many frescoes did not survive the Russian whitewashing campaign from the 19th century. The most memorable frescoes that have survived are the 16th century St. George fresco above the west door and the 11th century Virgin and Child freco high in the apse. Within the walls of the Alaverdi Monastery are the Persian governor's palace (now the bishop's palace) and the Marani vineyard that has been producing wine since 1011. An absolute top destination!

An amazing Alaverdy monastery, full of Georgian spirit. While visiting Kakheti region in my opinion it's a must to visit the place.
Lasha Gagnidze — Google review
Breathtaking monastery! We got to look at its exterior and walk around the vicinity. However, the inside was closed to visitors as it was being renovated, so we couldn't see the interior. You need to wear modest clothes to enter here, otherwise they will give you a skirt for females and pants for males.
The history of it is very interesting. Make sure to stop by and admire it. Its also not too far away from Tbilisi.

Beautiful Orthodox monastery. Very cozy and peaceful place. For wine lovers it has vineyard with old georgian grapes, in total 104 sorts. Monastery has it’s own wine, and also limited editions. You can buy it in Badagoni shop across the street. Ladies, take something to cover your head and legs. If not, visit gift shop, to lend out one.
Unique 6th-century monastic complex carved out of a cliff & set against a desert landscape.
I can see why the monastery was built here, peaceful and in the middle of nowhere. Well maintained and still possesses the feeling of peace and tranquility. A great place to meditate or pray or simply soak up the feeling of the place.

This a must to visit in Georgia on the guides, papers and internet.
Unfortunately it was a deception for me: most area was unallowed to visit because monks privacy.
Too long trip for so little to see.
I visited in January. May be in spring or summer would be possible to visiting more places in the monastery.

One of the most astonishing place I've went to in Georgia. The monastery itself is sumptuous and with the surrounding coloured mountains, it's absolutely gorgeous! You'll need your own transportation to get there tho.
Bambino V — Google review
I personally wouldn’t recommend it to people that only have a few days in Georgia, for the distance from Tbilisi it’s not worth it. When you arrive at the site there is no information about it. I imagine the closed part, must be the part that people enjoyed? The striped hills are very pretty. If you live here, it can be a nice day trip if you’re in good company.
Charlotte Heffer — Google review
Stunning views of spectacular hills. The drive to the monastery is all very accessible roads. No tickets needed to enter the monastery, but be aware that there is not much in the area, so it's recommended to bring drinks and snacks, (and 0,50 for the bathroom). For those who are a little agile, there is a small cave up the hill with an altar, but it's a little climb. The view of the monastery is great from that hill.
(!) You might walk into some military since you're really close to the border, but everyone I walked into was really friendly.
(!) Be aware there are lots of venomous snakes in the area, so watch your step if you go off trail.

The road to David Gareji is stunningly beautiful, admiring such landscapes, you willy-nilly catch flashbacks from memories from Altai and Tajikistan, as well as Tuscany and Scotland. A place where time goes slowly. You don't want to talk at all, you want to breathethere. Definitely a place of power and divine beauty.

✨️A secluded monestary that still houses monks. There is no need for 4x4 completely paved roads. ✨️
A free to enter monestary that is pretty closed off to society. They don't allow you to see much due to the monks living there. So you really only see the grounds and the church. Though the grounds are beautiful.
I'd suggest you take a walking path by the smaller house by the entrance (not the one with the museum shop) and hike a short way up. You get a better view of the monestary.
Though, be careful as you will meet Georgian border guards with guns, but they are friendly. They tell you that you can go a little bit further to the small water structure but must come back immediately.
Its is worth the drive. The surrounding area is nice and might be nicer than the actual church compound.
Dylan Filkins — Google review
Absolutely stunning. Must visit when in Georgia. Entrance and parking is free. There is a dress code when visiting the monastery. Covering knees, shoulders is asked. Nobody's checking but please be respectful.
It's not possible to visit the monastery across the border unfortunately. The ones you can visit are gorgeous.
The views of the landscape are also beautiful!

Анна Белоус — Google review
Amazing views worth to visit look out for tortoises on the road and around parking spot. To the right of monastery there is small building with sign which shows that there is path to hidden place - shrine behind the monastery. There are border guards so don't freak out they should allow you pass.
Damian Augustowski — Google review
Great place relatively close to Tbilisi. An important historical testimony of the past and present of this marvellous country. It is possible to go in and around and up the hill. I would recommend to go by with an English speaking driver who can tell and describe the importance of the place (price for European tourists should not be so high and negociable) There is also a fantastic view over the Rainbow Hills and a shop where to buy beautiful souvenirs made by the monks. It is absolutely worth a visit.

The whole impression is spoiled by the children's amusement park, there are 5-6 assorted cabins, like at a construction site, but there is minimal entertainment for children, even from the times of the USSR (it would be better if they installed a standard children's playground).

A beautiful place to visit. The river, the amazing waterfalls, the whole environment is beautiful and amazing. It's also a great place to pick up some beautifully made local items: scarves, sweaters, gloves, and much more, which helps the local economy. The Kafe U Kurmana is an excellent and fascinating place to eat, built up against the rock wall. We got a couple of skewers of meat and some flatbread things; I forget what they were called. I heard some local people say the food was ordinary and a bit high priced, but we enjoyed it. If you are an American as I am, the US State Department has a "level 4 travel advisory-Do Not Travel" for this area, but I had no problems of any kind, and found the people there friendly and welcoming. My Russian friend and I took a tour bus from Zheleznovodsk to the area. We also visited Nalchik and a hot mineral water pool in the area. If you are in the North Caucasus area I definitely recommend a visit.

Beautiful mountain in the heart of Caucasus.
Not a very technical climb at all. Not many people will be climbing it with you even during high season, so it's still quite enjoyable.
Biggest problem during the climb will be that some of the tourists climbing with you will be taking the "shortcut" to the base camp (with ski lifts) and to the Summit (with snowcats). Not exactly the most nature oriented climb. But besides this, the views are amazing and the climb enjoyable.
Because it's not so high in altitude, you should be doing quite ok on the altitude sickness side as long as you take the necessary time and listen to your body.
We saw one tourist (from another group) having to be lifted down by a rescue team because he was already at severe altitude sickness levels.
People are not careful enough and do not understand what that can cause to them. So be mindful!

January 2021. Not a lot of snow to ski, but this is not due to the service. The old lift is simply awful, slow and non convenient, and mostly, dangerous. The new one is ok, but definitely over crowded. To rent the skies is not hard, full of small places, missing an organized big one. 3 stars are only for the mountains, which are very beautiful. The rest, I suggest: with the same money, you can fly to Italy or France or Austria.

Night time is not recommended. A parking area has been allocated for the camp, but it is far away, there is no lighting and there is no fountain. The mosque is locked at night. The weather is minus at night and the wood you can make is wet and humid. Lighting is a must.
I recommend you to eat corn on the road.
By the way, the entrance fee to Black Lake is 40 lira for a car.

Gonio Fortress is an old Roman fortification that is said to be the final resting place of Saint Matthias, one of the apostles. The outer walls are well-preserved and impressive, but the interior has limited attractions for visitors. Guides are recommended to make the visit more interesting as there is little information available on-site. There are no eating options inside or nearby, with only water and cookies available across the road.
Gonio Fortress is a historic site located near Batumi, Georgia. It dates back to the Roman period and was an important strategic location throughout history. Today, visitors can explore the ruins of the fortress and learn about its rich history. If you're interested in history and archaeology, Gonio Fortress is definitely worth a visit!

We Found the fortress to be interesting, the outer walls are in very good shape and worth while seeing, there is no much to see literally inside the complex. Being so close it would be a shame not to visit, Entrance fee in February was 5 GEL each

Gonio Fortress is a fascinating historical landmark that offers a glimpse into the rich past of the region. The ancient walls and structures of the fortress stand as a testament to centuries of history and intrigue. The informative signage and exhibits provided valuable insights into the fortress's significance and its role in various historical periods. The panoramic views from the top of the fortress were simply breathtaking, allowing us to appreciate the stunning surrounding landscapes. Visiting Gonio Fortress was a truly memorable and enlightening journey into the depths of Georgia's cultural heritage.
Estera — Google review
About 12 kilometers from the old center of Batumi, on the south side of the mouth of the Chorochi River, stands one of the best preserved structures from antiquity: the Gonio Fortress (also known as Apsaros). It is not clear when the fortress was founded, the first written mention, by Pliny the Elder, dates from the 1st century AD. Apsaros was a well-fortified city on the outskirts of the Roman Empire that even had a theater and a hippodrome. Roman rule changed to Byzantine, and the name changed to Akampsis in the 10th century. In the 12th century the city fell into the hands of Georgian kings and was given its current name Gonio in the 14th century. In 1547 the fortress fell into the hands of the Ottomans, who remained there until 1878. After the fortress fell into Russian hands, it lost its importance and fell into disuse.
Within the walls of the fortress is said to be the tomb of Matthias, the apostle who took the place of Judas Iscariot after his betrayal. However, this cannot be verified as the Georgian government prohibits excavations of the graves within the fortress.
All in all, the well-preserved Gonio fortress is an interesting destination, and not just for archaeologists!

Beautifully preserved fortress with small archeological museum about the fortresses interesting history. Th different occupiers created stashes to store gold inside the fortress Walls. Sadly there is no gold left 😅. Informational pamphlets in English, clean bathrooms. Believed to be Saint Mathew burial site.

So glad we stopped to visit as it wasn't on our list of places to see on Batumi. I found the fortress to be a very interesting and educational. They have a small museum that explains pretty much everything about the archeology of the fortress and its history. Loved it! There's a small fee to get in. I think the fortress is well worth visiting and recommend it.

Great view and very nice weather. You need to book an appartment and prepare all your needs from outside the area because every thing is very very expensive. You dont expect a good service also. I think the place needs to be observed much better by the authorities and government.
Restaurants , shops, coffee shops, services, car rentals, taxis...etc are very gready and opportunestic. I haven't seen such greadiness in any other place in the world.

Simply breathtaking. A must visit when in Northern Türkiye. A photographer’s paradise. The observation deck can be reached via winding stairs through beautiful scenery (after huffing and puffing the way up), or by car on the other side of the mountain.

I think this is one of the overrated places. Maybe is beauty during summer and definitely not in the winter. Whoever wanna visit, please avoid during winter time. It is a bit difficult to get there, hence i join the tour. Is around one hour + away from Trabzon city centre. Spend a day trip also not too bad, unless you have many things to do, then overnight can be an ideal. During winter almost 85% shop is close. But there is theme park and some others things you could do during non winter time. View from the top deck is a bit far, then walking around the lake is pretty. Wanted visit to mosque, but it was close at that time. The cutest things i discover is their cinema beside the lake, however also close during winter. There are many shop, hotel, and restaurant surrounded this lake.

It used to be a museum in the past but now it has reverted to being a mosque. The building is amazing and the Byzantine paintings inside, on the walls and ceiling will leave awestruck. The surroundings are also great, with wonderful views of the sea and very nice gardens to stroll around. There is also a lighthouse and some tombstones in the garden.

Hagia Sophia Trabzon, a prominent temple both among the monuments of Pontus and among the Byzantine monuments in general, owes its importance to its connection with a variety of historical and archaeological parameters. First of all, it is a monument clearly linked, since its inception, to the local imperial dynasty of the Great Komnenoi. At the same time, the way in which the elements of its architectural design, painting, mosaic and sculptural decoration are combined could be described as unusual and perhaps unique. This uniqueness lies mainly in the coexistence of motile influences, which sometimes refer to the West (in relation to the particular geographical area) and sometimes to the East.
Built outside the walls of Trabzon, but within walking distance, the Church of Hagia Sophia - a complex cruciform with a dome, narthex and three impressive propylons - forms the center of a larger fortified building complex. It is flanked by a chapel tower, as well as remnants of a smaller church and other buildings, most probably a monastery. Philological sources of the 14th century mention the monastery "of the Word of God Wisdom", but also "the monastery of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Sophian". In addition, its burial function is strikingly evident and dominant in the shaping of the monument's identity, presumed by the funerary niches and tombstone inscriptions hosted in the temple. However, the function of the church as a cemetery seems to be included in the objectives of imperial sponsorship when it was founded either by Manuel I the Great Komninos (1238-1263) or by his immediate descendants.

A lovely building in a great location. There are lots of rooms filled with different furniture for different functions but not sure why it was felt necessary to fill so many with a table and chairs. This building that was a four-story was built in 1913, after the declaration of the Republic the ownership was passed to the Private administration. After Ataturk arriving in Trabzon in 1924, the villa was purchased by the Trabzon municipality for a gift to Ataturk. Then, the municipality was open the Atatürk Lodge to the public as a museum. This lodge is located between many pine trees and a spectacular view of the hill. Furthermore, it presents many memories belonging to Ataturk...

The Soumela Monastery is a museum showcasing the religious history of a monastery that was active for centuries until 1925. Although it has reopened after extensive maintenance, visitors must prepare for a challenging trek from the parking area or pay for transportation. The entrance fee is relatively expensive at 75 tl, and there are no food courts available on site. The steep and narrow stairs may pose difficulties for elderly or unwell individuals.
Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Use the restroom before you get on the shuttle. If you’re in the area it’s definitely worth seeing. Others may not think so much. There’s no food court at the monster sorry and the stairs are quite steep and narrow. Elderly or poor health may have a lot of trouble.

Beautiful monastery, the renovations are still on but we can still see some beautiful frescoes.
Today November 6th, the weather was very nice; it was showing 12°C but the feeling was 15°C.
The entrance per adult 125TL, but the parking is 4km away from the monastery that you can go free by walk. But you need to pay fees for the parking and optional shuttle bus to go upstairs.
Believe me....worth it!
It took us 1h visit all overall.

It has very easy access and is at the entrance of the parking lot. The price of the entrance ticket is reasonable, which is actually the cost of the transfer to the main place of the church, but the price of the entrance ticket to the church is somewhat expensive for foreigners. A place to go, it's almost magical, first the road to go there is very good, the landscape is amazing, going upstream the river between the mountains.
Once you finally arrive onsite you have to walk 350m (if you took the small bus) in a peaceful environment, berry green and very beautiful.
Then you discover the monastery, it's being restored, the place is very clean and in good condition.
The paintings are well preserved, except the faces as usual. If you're on the area, it's a place to go.

So many stairs to go up to the actual place. walking on stairs for 10 minutes up and down to go reach. once you reach you buy tickets and go up another set of stairs. The time i visisted it was so crowded we took 30 minutes after getting our tickets just to go in. Check for weather, if it’s cloudy everything will be foggy and you won’t see anything. also note that the stairs inside the monastery are very small and are very tall. no space for your foot to fit and the distance in height between each step is very unusual. It’s very tiring for people with regular stamina. if rainy avoid going because some paths to go to the monastery are rocks with no proper steps. It was very slippery when i visited i’ve seen countless people tripping and falling

Went on a Sunday morning around 9:30am. Was not that busy but it starts to get really busy after 10:30am due to tour buses / groups arriving so plan to arrive early if you want to avoid crowds :)
Be ready for lots of walking. 300 TL per person. Views of the mountains / surrounding areas from the monastery are amazing. Nice place to visit if you are in Trabzon.

About 50 minutes away from Trabxon, the sumela Monastry is tucked high up in the mountain tops. There's signage all the way from trabzon through to the monastry. It is a pleasant drive and very easy to find. I particularly enjoyed driving through the town Macka. Once at the entrance, purchase an entry ticket to the museum then continue driving to the parking area. You'll have purchase a bus ticket as that's the only way to the monastry. It can be quite crowded at times, but the historic architecture makes it well worth the trip. Exploring the monastry takes anywhere between 40 minutes to an hour. It depends on how deeply you immerse yourself in the incredible history as well as marvel at the ancient monastry. I recommend visiting this place as it gives you a glimpse of the past and allows you to appreciate the history. Wear comfortable shoes as There's quite a bit of walking to be done. During the winter and early spring, temperatures plummet, so carry a jacket. It's quite nippy despite the walking.

You may walk for almost 350 mtrs from the parking area or pay a car fair about 10 tl.
There is afair of 75 tl ticket to enter as well.
Walking is a bit tuff, you should be prepair for the rain as well.

It was a tiring road to the monastery itself but it was worth it. From down the mountain there are vans ready where you buy a ticket there and back it is a reasonable price and they take you to a certain point where you then take the stairs to the monastery. A lovely monastery that has been beautifully restored. What I miss is that they would possibly put a view terrace on the mountain opposite in the future.

Awesome, unique place. Professional photographs of this place are much more stunning than what you may experience. It's not easy to get a good vantage point outside this place. Most of the tour is behind the facade facing the valley. However, the ancient church and icons are amazing. This place is a national treasure for Turkey. I only gave it 4 stars because it is so commercialized and controlled. You have to pay to park, pay to get a ride up, pay an entrance fee... And the hiking trail is closed if you want to enjoy the nature a bit. I would not travel to the Trabzon area for this place alone. Worth putting a trip together if you can string together multiple sites/activities in the region.

Very beautiful piece of history and amazing how this structure exists high in the mountain. Be prepared to do a lot of walking here and if you come during warm weather bring a hat and water. The hard walking is worth the view from up top. I definitely recommend coming here if you are in Trabzon.

Very beautiful historical place, you need to choose the right time as weather may obstruct you from seeing clearly the place and the surroundings. I went at around 17:00 and spent an hour there. Road is very good and well maintained, unlike other tourist attractions in Trabzon. You need to be ready to walk and climb ladders which might be little hard for those who are not used to do frequent exercise. Noticed they put 300 TL sticker on entry ticket price whereas the original price is 125 TL.
Overall it is worth the visit and it is one of the top 5 attractions that you should visit while you are in Trabzon.

A lot of history here, but its a money making place. You pay 450tl (£12.85) each to get in. They then charge you to use the toilets and the cans of soft drinks are 3 times more expensive than anywhere else.
Vandals have carved their names in the frescoes and defaced a beautiful piece of history. It's set high in the mountains, and is very scenic

We went there in summer, if the sky is not cloudy be ready for hot weather. Recommend to wear sport shoes as you will be going up and down on wood and stone steps. As you reach there you have to park you car for fees and then ride minibus for 27 lira per person takes you close to Sumela Monastery and then you walk on steps for 350 m. If you want to enter you have to buy a ticket for 450 lira pp. Facilities: there are cafe and WC down where you parked, also before the entrance. Make sure there are too many steps (old people should be careful for their health condition)

We visited mid-June 2023. 300TL for foreigners / free with Museum Card. We arrived as it opened (0800). There are two car parks (30TL per hour) - we parked at the one just outside of the main part (you cannot take your car to the top) and bought a return minibus ticket (55TL for two). You can of course walk the 3km to the top and back for free.
There are a lot of steps and the climb is not always gentle. Wear good trainers. Get in as it opens and ignore the first little Monastery on your right. This means you can get to the frescos ahead of the crowds and take the photos you came for.
There is a cafe and some toilets (you pay to use them) and some seating too.
Bottom line - it is well worth a visit, but get there early to avoid the crowds.

Bandırma ferry is a must-see attraction in Samsun, Turkey. It's a replica of the 19th-century steam freighter that carried Atatürk from Constantinople to Samsun, marking the beginning of everything on May 19, 1919. The ship has been converted into a museum and is open for tourists to visit. Inside, there's a great exhibition featuring some original possessions from Atatürk.
It was pretty small but it was cool, ticket was 15 tl

A must see place in Samsun, a slice of history, a pivotal point. I felt proud and emotional, doesn't matter the ship is a replica, I understand that the original couldn't be saved and put to display. The English translations on the signs should be looked over.

A succession of 28 waterfalls, accessed via a riverside hiking trail through oak & beech forest.
Very long steep walk up through all the waterfalls but a nice hike. First section is wooded walkway and then after waterfall 10 you have the choice to keep going on a stoney / dirt path. Very slippery when wet
Thorin Badman — Google review
One of the best gifts of mother nature to human kind. You can climb all 28 waterfalls. After first 3, you barely will see anyone. Be sure to visit this treasure in summer so you can swim in them!

Great place to visit If you are looking for a natural beauty. It is 40 km from Sinop. The entrance is 27 tl for cars. There are 28 waterfalls, big and small ones. There are cafeterias and resting areas as well. Climbing up the waterfalls are easy mostly. Just the first part is made of rock stairs and it is hard.but if you go up tye second level it will be easier climbing on wooden stairs. You can also follow the route inside the river if you are very careful. Because there are slippery rocks.
Serdar “Travelmate” — Google review
Multiple consecutive falls that have a really good wooden side walkway, there are rest rooms, picnic tables and restaurants in the place.
Great place for families to spend a day in natural surroundings ...
fahad alshaya — Google review
Despite some construction underway on a new bridge at the entrance, the park is beautiful and well laid-out. There are several quaint little cafes too, but they suit the natural setting well. The steps up to the first several falls are well maintained and fairly easy for a reasonably fit adult to climb, but we didn’t have time to get to all the falls. Definitely worth spending a couple hours here to get to the top.

The Rahmi M. Koc Museum in Ankara showcases the history of transportation and communication with artifacts from rare cars to medical tools. It is situated next to the Ankara Castle, making it a great place for families to visit. The museum is full of exhibits on the world of transit and science, making it an interesting place for visitors of all ages.
One of the best museums in Ankara. Based around the collection of one of the greatest Turkish industrialists, you can find everything here from classic cars over steam-driven machinery and airplanes to technology to art to clothing to examples of life and trade in Turkey through the ages. A nominal fee is charged for entry, but it is well worth it. Be sure to schedule several hours to give the three-building collection its due. Children will enjoy it. It is the perfect rainy day activity, and is excellent on sunny days, as well.

Rahmi Koç Museum Ankara is a scaled down replica of the one in Istanbul. Cars, old radios, old bicycles, you name it. Personally, I consider these two museums one of the best in Europe, in their genre. This museum must be visited. It is located in the vicinity of the historical Ankara Kalesi. Next to the museum is another compact but very good private museum, Erimtan. If you walk 500mt down, you will have the opportunity to visit the crown jewel, Anadolu Medeniyetleri müzesi, (Anatolian Civilizations Muuseum).
I will not explicitly list all item groups displayed at RMK museum, only to mention my favorites:
The smiling Buddha figures collection of late Turkish comedian Zeki Alasya, an exceptional display of small Buddhas, primarily of ivory, and ceramics. I have never encountered a similar collection previously anywhere.
Vintage radios, specifically two models, a Zenith Trans-Oceanic and a National. I have a sentimental connection to these because same models exist at my home, a souvenir of my late father.
Zenith Trans-Oceanic was the royalty of short wave radios. It was manufactured by Zenith Electronics, from 1941 till 1979. During those years Zenith was a USA company, which was purchased by LG Electronics of South Korea in 1999.
Next to RMK Museum, you can enjoy a good coffee and sweets at Divan Patisserie.

The museum building's interior is beautiful. It was a historical Ottoman inn (similar to Kızlarağası Inn in Kemeraltı Izmir). Compared to the Istanbul Museum, this place presents smaller exhibits. There are fewer machines and large transport items. However, the number of items and variety of collections is enormous. It is worth visiting this admirable museum.
Victor Luzgin — Google review
It's simply great place to visit - lots of different models and original mechanisms all over the world, you'll find miniaturized ships and planes, rarity cars like Ford T or Messerschmitt KR200, the historical background of the museum building is also affected telling visitors the story of handicrafts in Ottoman Empire. The whole visit could take up to few hours because exposition is quite huge, but it's really worth it.

The museum of Anatolian Civilizations is a great place to learn about the ancient history of Turkey and Ankara. It has beautifully curated exhibits containing artefacts from just about every significant archaeological site in Anatolia.
You have to visit this museum if you’re visiting Ankara or even close to it.
The location is also great being very close to the castle so you can visit both on the same day.
The actual museum isn’t very large compared to other museums in turkey but it’s very clean, well organized, items are presented in a nice way, and has a lot of history.
The only thing I didn’t like is that the downstairs floor isn’t well decorated as the upper floor

A gorgeous museum located on the hill in Ankara. The museum grounds alone are very scenic and beautiful. Items curated there are well lighted and labelled.
Happened to have a musical performance going on when I visited. The acoustics are very good indeed. And the performance was very enjoyable.
Enjoyed my visit thoroughly. Really wished I could have stayed longer. Spent 2.5hours there and it wasn't enough. Guess I will have to try to visit again !
Entrance Fee in 2022 - Sep : TL 75
* I hope they publish a new museum guide with all the items in it. Currently, it's split into multiple books with lots of items not in it. It would be of great interest to people who don't have the time or photographic equipment to capture all the great artifacts kept here.

A collection of artifacts starting from the Neolithic era up to the Roman era. The collections exhibited here are mostly discovered during the excavation around Ankara and Turkey. The descriptions are available in Turkish along with English. If you have extra money, you could pay more for an audio guide to help you learn things around the museum if you think reading is a bit inconvenient. It's highly recommended to go here if you are interested in Anatolian civilization history.

If you visit Türkiye you must visit this museum. Within its walls are the items from all the places you visited across the country. Used my Museum Pass to skip the line. Arrived early to beat much of the crowds. Spent 3 hours walking all the halls and enjoying the treasures of Türkiye. Favorite was the Midas displays (Midas touch) and the artifacts and wall murals from Catalhoyuk which visited prior week (this is a 9,500 year old Neolithic city just south of Konya - still being excavated and had an estimated 20k population). They had some displays on lower level of items found locally just in past couple years - amazing what they are still digging up. Thanks to the staff too for all the great friendly service. They have some amazing items in the courtyard not to be missed. Great gift shop too.

Epic. Located in the Ankara Castle the museum is separated by sections, each representing different Anatolian culture, starting from Neolithic Çatalhöyük all the way to the Hellenistic era. I wish only that the Hittite section was bigger.
Probably one of the most interesting sections was with the tablets found in Assyrian trading colonies that show us how the Bronze Age people were no different than us today. Marriage certificates, contracts, letters.
If you are interested in ancient history - a must place to visit.

The Anitkabir (Ataturk Mausoleum) is a monumental complex located in Ankara, Turkey, that honors the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. The imposing monument features an interior courtyard decorated with a beautiful mosaic and is open to the public as a museum. The Changing of the Guard ceremony and the War of Independence Museum are both well worth seeing.
Enter via Akdeniz cd road to avoid a long walk. Possible to drive in as a tourist as well. Its a beautiful place for taking great pictures. I see lots of students visiting the place for their graduation photos. The change of guards were interesting to watch.

Here you will find the real great leader. He is so respected by the people if Turkey. Graduated student will bring their certificate to take photo here. Paying respect. Today I see a ceremony of respect to Ataturk - the great leader. Unfortunately my tour do not allow me enough time to see the museum (you have to spend at least more than an hour to see this Wonder museum). The view is amazing to all directions. I also see the guard changing.

Very clean and interesting to visit, a must see in Ankara. Organisation in the front entrance could have been better (no one told me about the free minibus that can take you up to the main building) and there should be english speakers everywhere if they truly regard this as a top site. Also, to get an audioguide you must have cash and be prepared to wait as the attendant isn't always there...
There are also schoolchildren everywhere and on wreath day (no telling when these coule be) the guards will tell you to stand back and wait until the event is over. No pictures allowed to be taken in certain parts of the museum. The cafe downstairs within the museum doesn't have too many options of both food and seating. Overall a good visit especially with the snow.

The place is free, the museum is a must seen and you need to avoid the crowds during the weekends.
The place is visited by hundreds everyday specially with the 100 years anniversary of the republic.
There is a big car parking 🅿️, accessible to the public.
The media center only with Turkish video displays with no subtitles , would be an advantage to have at least an English translation.
The view from there to the City is magnificent and the garden surrounding the tomb monument.

The best time to visit this marvelous place is after 3 PM. You need to leave backpacks at the security building at the main gate. Lockers are provided for free. A shuttle runs frequently between the entrance and the monument. Around 3:30 pm, the change of guards ceremony starts from the front stairs. There is a long stretch from there to the main building, which the iconic tomb is, of coarse, the heart of everything.
Museum entrance is free, and I totally recommend to visit it before closing time at 5 pm. There is also a gift shop and a cafe in the museum.

We took a taxi to the site as it was nearly an hours walk from the hotel, which we converted to a £3 fare! The mausoleum was a very large but simple building in a huge square and parkland and it was pleasing to see so many people there to pay their respects. There were small museums on the site detailing aspects of the funeral and transportation of Ataturk's body and the whole thing was well done, no pomp or rampant nationalism but a definite sense of pride in his and the country's achievements.

It's an interesting place, but there's nothing to do here more than once. The history of Ataturk is more interesting to Turks, no interesting facts were found for me personally.
The territory is large and well maintained. The guard is not the best, in many countries the guard works much more organized and accurate, but you can see.
To be honest, I liked the parrots that settled in the building more, they contrast very sharply.

This is a moment, tomb, and museum for Turkey's founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The monument is spectacular, completed in 1953, but has an olde world ancient feel about it. The location is guarded by soldiers and even has a changing of the guard. I learned so much about who Atatürk was - a very true leader, way ahead of his time, who is a true hero, and continuous source of inspiration. Fantastic location with spectacular views of Ankara, highly recommended!

Anitkabir is a place to feel the pulse of the history of Turkiye and contribution of Kamal Ata Turk and people of the country. The architecture is simply mesmerising and you feel like to be there for long.
The ceremonial change of the guards in intervals is also nice to observe. The Museum is very rich with the historical evidences, photos, drawings, models, documents, artifices, replicas and lot more.
It is important that you have enough time in hand to visit all the halls and premises within the establishment.

A good place to learn about the history of turkey and its independence. It’s dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his contributions to Turkish people. One can take their time off and visit it for a day. It has museums inside which are free so it’s a good place.
There is a small cafe also before entering inside Anıtkabir which is cheap and good one.
For tourists it’s an excellent place to take a good walk and make your lungs breathe fresh air.

At the end, the views and ambience around the lakes are really Nayanaviram, eyes get pleased and satisfaction limitless.

I have visited this place with my friends and loved every bit of it. Amazing landscapes and very nice lush green lakes. You can visit this place both in summers and winters. If you are planning to visit for more than a day do take your camps with you because you will enjoy more in camping.

It’s a great spot and getaway for the weekend. Enjoy the time in the forest and near the lakes. It has a tiny pier at each lake. You may take marvelous pictures and while soaking in the view and fresh oxygen. You don’t have to take the first parking spot; instead, continue bigger on the right-hand side, slightly lower than the road. You’ll have direct access to the following three lakes, and with a 2-3 min walk, your way ends up at a small restaurant. There arrived, you may have breakfast or a full meal.
All in all, I strongly recommend this park as a weekend getaway and a moment of unwinding yourself!

It took me 12 hours to come and go...there were so many people as we came during national holiday. But if you hunt for pretty pictures, surely this is the place. The toilet are not enough...no close food vendors seen.
Some people camp...and the air is crisp.
I just love this lake, anyone who comes to Bolu should visit and enjoy this beauty ♥️
We visited it almost everyday during our stay and enjoyed it every time differently
Once at sunset, another time during the morning with some fog and so on it keeps changing and giving you another side of it's beauty
The place is full of benches for picnics and also a walking path around the lake, and the trees there are just magnificently tall big and just magical ✨

It is a good area with a lake and some facilities like having picnic and jogging, but garbage around was disappointing. There is also a museum with traditional model houses and mounted animals.

Visited in winter- with snow covered hills, pristine lake - such a peaceful and relaxing place. Came here practically every day when we stayed in the area. We are tourists so of course, we did the touristy thing and had a horse carriage ride. Was a pleasure

Lake Abant is a freshwater lake in Turkey's Bolu Province in northwest Anatolia, formed as a result of a great landslide. The lake lies at an altitude of 1,328 m at a distance of 32 km from the provincial seat of Bolu. It is a vacation and excursion spot for both Turkish and foreign travellers due to the natural environment, forests, and accessibility by car. It is served by a 21 km road. It is three hours' drive from İstanbul and Ankara. Lake Abant is a natural park. The lake covers an area of 1.28 km2 and its deepest spot is 18 m. The lake area has two large hotels in the immediate vicinity of the shores, as well as other amenities and services for visitors, who sometimes alternatively opt for the family guesthouses available in the nearby town of Mudurnu, 18 km to the south.
European black pine, Scots pine, oaks, ashes, hornbeams, willows, junipers, tamarisks, hazels, common medlar, and strawberry trees are among the tree species that make up the lake's woodlands, and there are wild boars, fallow deer, roe deer , red deer, brown bears, wolves, red foxes, jackals, and rabbits in the surrounding forests, which makes the lake a prized location for hunters during the season. The lake is inhabited by the Abant trout Salmo abanticus, a (sub)species of trout which is strictly endemic to this lake only.

If you go in December make sure you wear layers of clothing, it gets very cold. The fresh air and scenery was worth it. We saw some horses on the tracks, you can rent them.

Amazing place for the nature lovers, hiking enthusiasts or for any one who wants some fresh air and serene view. A must to see in Bolu.
If you don't own a car, there is a bus from downtown Bolu that goes directly to the park, make sure to check the bus schedule before taking it.
