Outdoor museum showcasing old border fortifications between East & West Germany & military vehicles.
This was a very interesting museum tucked away in the hills. Some friends that live in Germany took me here and I was impressed by the displays of all the different machinery outside. Some nice examples of the helicopters and other machines used during this time period. And a lot of the information boards feature an English translation :)

Interesting museum portraying the time of the iron curtain. Various military vehicles from both sides exhibited. Several exhibits giving a photo account of the time. Pity most of the exhibits were in German. U get the overal picture but miss the details. A short summary would help. Never the less an impressive few hours soaking up history
Tracy Eppenhof — Google review
The border museum is well worth the visit. There is a lot to see and read. The lighting could be a bit better in some places but I think they have done a great job with what little resources they had. There is a new, larger reception and display building that has just been completed but which is not yet operational.
Keith Filmer — Google review
Great museum for just €5. Free parking. No CC accepted. Museum consists of several sheds with lots of info and photo material. Outside helicopters and military vehicles and tanks on display. You can enter one of the old helicopters!
The stories of those days that can be read with the photos leaves you speechless.
New museum building is under construction.
Sander Molleman — Google review
Good experience, bunch of helicopters to look at and the guy at the reception is nice.

An interesting mostly open air museum and Cold War memorial. This place documents the brief and disturbing history of the inner German border under the DDR. The methods and physical barriers to keep a civilian population contained under the auspices of communism were eye-opening. Though maybe not as notorious as the Berlin Wall, the inner-border zone nevertheless highlights the danger of a government run amok and the ultimate futility of a failed political ideology. Also documented was the current state of the “green zone” and how the former death strip has been transformed into a protected area throughout Mittel Deutschland.
Nathan Glondys — Google review
Learning the history of east and west Germany, also looking at the fence that was built along the border. The guides told the stories with very good explanation.

Make sure you visit this boarder museum, fantastic displays, see the original boarder tracks and towers and collection of DDR/Soviet & west vehicles (hind gunship!). Great collection of vehicles to see!

Very cheap. To go up costs 2.50€. To go up and down costs 4,00€ per person. It’s super fun. The view is amazing. Especially during the summer time the view is amazing with lots of nature around.
Highly recommended. The alternative is to walk up, but if you aren’t a sports guy than that will be quiet intense to do so.

Lovely short ride to a neat mountaintop restaurant. Unfortunately the staff on duty wouldn't speak English, so a girl had her leg pinced and the operator didn't realize it, didn't understand the girl talking and gesticulating and didn't help. Hope the poor girl figured on her own how to unstick her leg. Else the short ride might have been unbearably long for her.

The Gänseliesel fountain is located at the heart of the medieval town of Gottingen and features a replica of a famous statue depicting a girl with a goose. This landmark is widely recognized and represents the rich history and traditions of the city. The area surrounding it exudes charm and antiquity, attracting visitors who appreciate its beauty. Tourists will enjoy exploring this lovely town as it showcases Germany's cultural heritage and splendor while maintaining its cleanliness and orderliness.

Fountain where you can find a lady with a bouquet. Tradition for graduate students to climb and kiss the statue (after giving a bouquet of flowers)
Philippe Bun — Google review
The Gänseliesel in Göttingen is an iconic and charming statue that has become a beloved symbol of the city. Located in the heart of the historic district, it is a popular tourist attraction and a must-see for anyone visiting the area.
The statue itself is a stunning work of art, depicting a young girl holding a goose in her arms. It was created in 1901 by artist Paul Nauen and has since become a cherished part of the local culture. The Gänseliesel is also famous for being the centerpiece of an annual tradition in which newly minted PhD graduates are expected to climb up to the statue and give it a kiss, as a sign of good luck and success in their future careers.
Surrounding the statue is a beautiful square with cozy cafes, restaurants, and shops, making it a pleasant spot to spend an afternoon relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere. The Gänseliesel is also conveniently located near other major attractions in the city, such as the Old Town Hall and St. John's Church.
Overall, the Gänseliesel is a delightful and enchanting landmark that captures the spirit of Göttingen. Whether you are a history buff or simply looking for a lovely place to explore, this iconic statue is definitely worth a visit.
Darafsh — Google review
The center of Göttingen isn't without controversy. PHD students have the pleasure of kissing either the girl or the bird depending on their political views. Either way, it's a must see for visitors and a good spot to enjoy the city's atmosphere
Sean Mitchell — Google review
Seen during short visit of Göttingen, probably the nicest place in city centre. I like the story about that statue and local students kissing it.
Jakub Smutný — Google review
A simple statue with an interesting story. The best time to visit is after graduation when graduates visit to kiss her and leave flowers!
Eli Ethridge — Google review
Gänseliesel, also referred to as "Goose Girl," is a historical fountain in Göttingen notable for the PhD graduates at the University of Göttingen who are required, as part of an old tradition in Göttingen, to go and kiss her as a token of their love on the day of graduation. Despite the fact that it was built in 1901, it has undergone minor restorations.
Every time I visit the city center, I love to walk by this fountain.

History says the most kissed girl in the world. You can't believe how much infatuation lies on Goosegirl's face without having a look.

Very interesting. A lot of interesting and cool things to do around the city center. Especially the "Weinachtsmarkt" or Christmas Market during December. Year round there are also occasional events and occasions to see or do things there. It's a small town and has a small City charm instead of a big commercial area with lots of high end shops. Very nice place to see and visit.
So nice to just walk through this garden, it's full of life. I really enjoy it, probably a must see in Göttingen :)

You have to really really really like plants and flowers if you want to check out this place. Although it looks nice it is not worth the travel. Go if you are near the place for a short walk, drink or picknick. If not enjoy the pictures online :).

A very serene environment with a soothing atmosphere. Mountainous scenery to behold.
If you are in Göttingen and you have never being to this place then your Summer season must be relived.
Anyways, had a walk here with a friend and fell in love with this environment.

A botanic garden near the University in the Weende side of town. A lake to see, some garden sections, an alpine style garden on the hill and some greenhouses which, I believe, are only open on specific tours or on specific days. Free entry to the rest of the park though. Worthy of a view if in the area, though not as good as the Botanic garden in town

We visited this therme as tourists that don't speak fluent German. I tried to speak German to buy tickets at the counter and this went well. Unfortunately the lady at the counter didn't explain to us how to system of the tickets worked and we ended up having to pay extra at the end. I wish she would have told us about how things worked in there. The therme itself was nice but inside as a mixed couple we also felt stared at by other visitors. We left with mixed feelings about the 'fine' and the experience. It might be that the town isn't used to many tourists that don't speak good German but it was disappointing.

Spent three hours in this (mostly) indoor pool area. They have a selection of heated pools with salt water. Each pool is a different temperature with a different concentration of salt. They also have four jacuzzis and a textile-free sauna area. The restaurant sells good food for affordable prices. Entrance is a bit pricey depending on how long you want to stay. I would suggest coming early so you can relax a bit on their comfortable lounge chairs. The view from outside is also amazing.
Derik ten Napel — Google review
Unfortunatelly because of missinformation received from staff we could not enter. We were at Therme on Sunday, asked if we need to do tests. The staff told us that kids over 6 years old need to be tested. When we did test and come back, very arrogant blond employee informed us that we cannot enter because 6 years old should also get tested!! why didnt we get this information earlier? We lost whole Sunday because of incompetence and different informafion received from staff of same company!

(Translated by Google) Free and well-located parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the Weser Skywalk. It is about a 400m walk from the parking lot to the viewing platform. However, the footpath is sometimes quite steep, not paved and therefore not barrier-free! When the weather is nice and on weekends, it can get quite full, so that the parking lot reaches its capacity limits. There is an additional hiking car park about 300 meters down the road on the right.

Very impressive! It was for me the first time to visit a mine like this, it feels you go back in time! The groups weren't that big, so you could see a lot of the mine. It was quite cold, so wear warm clothes. The train underground was an amazing experience!

An amazing experience I would highly recommend! It's rare to get to walk in the shoes and take the same mine train the miners took back in the day, deep into the depths of this mine and UNESCO World Heritage site. The rest of the museum and exhibitions are also interesting but the mine rail tour is a must!

Great history, but poor presentation. No tours in English. High price for the little intro one gets… it seems there will be renovations - so maybe will be better in another 5 years..

Even though they state there are English tours - there were non on the weekend with public holiday. We also tried to call in the working hours but the call was not taken. To get into mines you need a tour, so you would listen for German… for one of they’re we have taken it ended before the usual end because of corona and no one said it to us while buying tickets… also information between yours noticeably overlap, I would just take 1 tours…

It is a museum that I definitely recommend you to attend after visiting the medieval village. This mine, which focuses on mining history, provides you with a lot of experience. You can mine through the tour and learn about many other mines. It was a very good experience, definitely worth its price. Attention, there are many things to visit! Maybe you could spend half a day here.

Very deceiving for such an emblematic place. It is still a quite impressive place full of history which is nice to see. I expected more...
First of all, there is no tour in English. For a UNESCO world heritage site, you will expect at least one tour in English.
For the museum part, it is interesting but everything is disorganised and it is not appealing. Some parts are only in German.
I hope one day, this place would be made more accessible for non-german speakers.

I was here 3 years ago and must say it is differently worth a visit. I fell humble and on the same time drawn of the excitement when we were shown around deep down in the old shafts and mine.
Specially was it amazing to see the big Mills in the mine run by water going through the mine. I will come back to see it again.

I visited Rammelsberg Friday 7/7-23 and it is a must see. Do not miss this place if you have any interest in history, engineering, tech, geology and/or mining. There is history, mining, geology exhibitions, the historical buildings and different guided tours.
I must recommend the "From Lump of Ore to Concentrate" guided tour. This tour takes you to the top building of the site by elevator and then you walk down trough the buildings along the mountain side. The buildings contains all the machinery used to process the ore to extract the tin, cobber and lead from the stones. Many of the machines still works and it is all explained and demonstrated by the guide! A very big thanks to the guide (named Frans I think). It was an absolutely fantastic guided tour! I also did the "Mine train tour". It is a fun and interesting tour, but less technical, shorter and also aimed to be great fun for children.
Thank you for a great day at Rammelsberg.
Highly recommended!

Highlights are the Keizerzaal on the first floor, lots of wood and many paintings from 1870-1890. And behind it a small chapel with the tomb and relics of Henry III.

Inside this Imperial Palace you'll find ancient relics dating back to 1040 when it was built, along with many interesting historical facts in the lower level of the Palace. On the second level, there's a great hall that has been painted in beautiful murals describing different parts of German history. All of the information is written in German, but there are audio guides that are available in many different languages, including English, Spanish, French and Russian to name a few. Fantastic place to visit, especially as an English speaker. Staff are very friendly and the exhibits are well described and very interesting! Great price for the exhibition size and time it takes to get around. I'd recommend this for any car/bike lover.

On a motorbike tour through Europe, we purposely aimed for this museum because of the bikes. The collection is massive, but what we didn't appreciate was that it is spread acorss multiple sites in the same town - spread out across the space of a mile or so (probably our mistake).
We went to the main venue and enjoyed the exhibits, but these were a mix of cars and bikes. Only at the end did we find that the bike museum was a mile away and that we had to pay separately for admission to that venue. If we had known this, we would have gone straight to the bike venue, and saved some money. By the time we got to the bike venue to explore, we were already running behind schedule and were tired, so couldn't give the place the attention it deserved.
Overall, the collection was huge, and comprehensive. I'd visit again, but pick the venue more carefully next time.

The place is well kept, with a nice piece of wall art outside in theme with the car subject . The main building is packed full of all the items that made history in the locomotion area, 6 floors! Please allow many hours to this visit, or you Won' t have time for the special features available on the premises, as it happened to us! My 3 men were so taken by the stuff and the exhibition that 3 hours passed quickly, and were not enough! Pity that not all info is in english too, but there is enough to understand the period they are talking about..Restaurant is good, with friendly, english speaking personnel, and a refined industrial mood.
Modernist factory built in 1911 & designed by Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius & Adolf Meyer.
Admission without tour is currently 7 euros, with tour 12. Without the tour you cannot go inside the factory. Still, the museum is very interesting, and the cafe is great. Plan at least two hours without the tour. There's a market in Alfeld on Saturdays so make it a day trip.

I was left a bit disappointed by my visit. There is too much content in the museum (over 5 floors), and I would say the story could be curated better. It felt like a lot was repeated across different information boards, display cabinets and videos. There is also the UNESCO welcome centre, which seemed a bit pointless to me. The audio guide tour of the campus was okay, but again, it sort of repeats what is inside the museum, so of limited interest. I was told there are a few buildings I could go inside during my weekday visit, but it was pretty unclear on the ground. Given it’s still an active workplace, I decided not to just start opening random doors. The canteen also stops serving food a while before closing time. Saying all of this, the buildings remain stunning. I’m glad I finally visited them, but I hope they refresh the exhibition in the coming years.

The Fagus factory in Alfeld earned its UNESCO cultural heritage site status as a trailblazing work of modernist architecture and the first major commission of Walter Gropius, founder of Bauhaus.
The shoe factory also has a notorious connection with inhumane shoe-testing experiments conducted on prisoners at Sachsenhausen.
The museum unfortunately concentrates on shoe production. There is not enough context to illuminate the importance of Gropius’ work here, and there’s a shortage of Bauhaus-related material. The NS era is treated very cursorily. Instead there are whole rooms filled with group photos of factory employees or about trees and forests. Despite these shortcomings, the museum is interesting and well worth a visit.
Richard Ashcroft — Google review
The visit of the exterior of the factory is highly recommended for its Bauhaus architecture. The site also offer the possibly to access an exhibition space explaining the industry which Fagus is dedicated to. However, don’t bother spending a ticket for the exhibition if you don’t speak German: scarce explanations are provided in English

Amazing architecture of Gropius, and still functioning as enterprise. Unfortunately the museum was closed when I visited it because of Christmas holidays.

Built from 1911 to designs by Adolf Meyer and Walter Gropius, the subsequent star architect of the Bauhaus school, the Fagus Factory is widely regarded as the first truly modernist structure. Typical of the Neues Bauen style, the glass and steel facade and the huge, wrap-around corner windows free of supports lend the building an elegant feeling of lightness.

The Happy Rizzi House is a collection of renovated structures adorned with vibrant and surreal cartoon illustrations by American pop artist James Rizzi. This tourist destination exudes a whimsical and cheerful atmosphere, creating an illusion that feels animated yet visitors can enter the building to explore. Grand residence of local dukes from the 18th-20th centuries, now home to a museum & rooftop terrace.
Very nice history attached to the building. I was amazed to find out that inside was just a SHOPPING MALL

It was a wonderful visit, as it is located in the city center, and it was the residence of the dukes from 1753 to November 8, 1918.. Within it is the Schloss commercial complex, which contains a wide range of shops such as clothing, food, restaurants, electronics, cosmetics, and perfumes... It is wonderful. If you visit the city of Braunschweig, do not forget to go there and take souvenir photos

Although the frontage is a rebuilt of the old castle, inside there is a shopping mall. In a city like Braunschweig the mall is well visited, and attracts visitors from neighbouring towns and villages. The schloss (palace) is easily accessible by public transport.
Other than the mall, the main attraction is the schloss museum. Although small, it is quite nice and informative. One can also climb to the roof top where the Quadriga statue is located. On the right side, there is also a public library.

In Brunswick's schlossplatz stands the stunning building known as Brunswick Palace. When I passed by this majestic monument on the route to Gaussberg Park, I must admit that it was awe-inspiring. Only when I travel to the UK do I see monuments like this.
According to what I was told, this palace was constructed sometime in the 18th century and underwent a number of renovations over its existence. I have heard that it once served as a residence for the Brunswick dukes in the 18th century.
Wonderful to pass past this building.

Stunning City Palace with a remarkable history. The old home of the Dukes of Braunschweig, the last of whom abdicated in 1918, the Schloss was destroyed twice, first by fire and then of course in the bombing raids of the Second World War. Against massive protests it was demolished in the 1960s and finally rebuilt in the 2000s to cover a shopping mall.
You can easily spot the parts that came from the original Schloss. The architecture is beautiful and the site is in the centre of the city so absolutely a must visit when in Braunschweig. There’s a small museum in the left hand wing of the palace that is free, as well as the lifts to see the Quadriga at the very top that’s also free for the time being. The entrance is just to the right of the main entrance.

The Brunswick Cathedral, a renowned 12th-century church adorned with frescoes and featuring a crypt for Guelph rulers like Henry the Lion, is a significant landmark in Braunschweig that must be visited by tourists. While it is free to visit during specific hours, its exterior beauty does not necessarily translate to an equally interesting interior. Nonetheless, this cathedral still remains as a central hub of activities and life in the city.
This is a marvelous place to visit. Beautiful frescoes! It was great to see the tomb of Henry the Lion and Mathilde as well as the wonderfully atmospheric crypt.
David McLoughlin — Google review
Braunschweig Cathedral is a truly extraordinary place that left a profound impact on me. From the moment I stepped inside, I was transported to a bygone era, overwhelmed by the weight of history that permeates every corner of this majestic structure.
The cathedral's architecture is a testament to human creativity and skill. Its soaring spires and intricate details are a sight to behold. The craftsmanship on display is nothing short of remarkable, with each delicate carving and carefully placed stone revealing the dedication and talent of the artisans who brought this architectural masterpiece to life. Every turn brought new surprises, and I found myself lost in admiration, marveling at the sheer grandeur of it all.
However, the cathedral's beauty extends far beyond its physical appearance. Its walls reverberate with stories of centuries past, and the sense of timelessness is palpable. It has witnessed historical events, joyous celebrations, and solemn moments of reflection. As I learned about its rich history, I couldn't help but feel a deep reverence for the generations that came before us and the cultural heritage they left behind.
Inside the cathedral, I encountered a collection of special sculptures that added an extra layer of fascination. These sculptures, meticulously crafted with exquisite detail, seemed to possess a life of their own. Their expressive forms and captivating presence drew me in, and I was captivated by the stories they told. Each one was a testament to the artistic prowess of the past, reminding me of the power of human creativity and the ability to transform stone into something truly extraordinary.
In conclusion, Braunschweig Cathedral is more than just a building. It is a gateway to the past, an architectural wonder, and a repository of history and art. Visiting this remarkable cathedral is an immersive experience that will transport you to ancient times and leave you with a deep appreciation for the enduring legacy of our ancestors. Prepare to be enchanted by its timeless beauty, to marvel at its architectural splendor, and to be moved by the stories it silently whispers.

A long overdue piece , I visited this absolutely beautiful cathedral in April, it was a cloudy morning and I was incidentally in time for Ms.Monika's famed church tour (it was around 11 am ) , and boy was i was amazed. She breathed and lived the cathedral's rich history, dark times and the subsequent restoration. Her impeccable attention to detail and careful explanation bought the cathedral to life. A proficient bi -lingual (German and English) , she did an outstanding job to weave the narrative of the journey of the cathedral from past to present.
The tour itself is about an hour and free , the cathedral has stood the test of time and is a testament to faith, history and changing times of the surrounding regions. The architecture (gothic- renaissance) is a splendid remainder of the rich history and cultural heritage of the city itself. The staff and local agencies involved are doing a wonderful job of preserving this splendid piece of architecture, if Braunschweig is not on your radar, give it a try, gems like these won't dissapoint you.

St. Mary's Cathedral is a Catholic church known for its world-renowned bronze sculptures, exquisite Romanesque chandeliers, and an ancient rose that dates back to a millennium ago. The cathedral boasts of remarkable architecture that has been preserved since the 11th century, offering visitors the privilege to admire this work of art without any entrance fee or overcrowding. Despite being heavily damaged during WWII, its interior has been rebuilt with a more modern look but still retains its historical significance.
I love the Architecture. The way it is preserved for us to see and admire the work of Art from the 11th Century, is such a great privilege. No entrance fee. Not crowded. You have all the time to look at all those magnificent Chandeliers, the door, the Pillars etc.

Yes, difficult to review this one. The thought that it was being built 800 AD is fascinating. The restorations are hmmm. I would prefer benches, really. During my visit, they started to play classical baroque music. As much as I love classical music, it has no place in a Catholic Church, also it’s distracting while praying a rosary, there should be not played modern instruments. I really appreciate their talent, but everything has the right time and place, and a Catholic Church is not the same as a Protestant church, the catechism is clear about newer instruments inside the church. Well, but some corners are really beautiful here, even though I am not getting on good terms with the artstyle of the statues, the bigger heads are a bit irritating when used of normal sized statues. A huge old Cathedral with few content, I know small parishes with more art, thought, some of the figures are normal sized, they look really good, and the paintings with baroque-ish decoration were fascinating me as well. Benches would make a huge difference, really.

This church is definitely worth to be visited. It is one of the most beautiful sightseeing in the Hildesheim. It's a part of UNESCO world's heritage. Very beautiful inside. The church contains many interesting exhibits. It was a concert at the time I was there. The music and singing were amazing, I really enjoyed it.
St. Michael's Church, located in Hildesheim, Germany, is a remarkable example of 11th-century Romanesque architecture and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The church is renowned for its exquisite bronze doors crafted by Bishop Bernward and features a painted wood ceiling depicting the genealogy of Christ. The interior is bathed in natural light from all angles, enhancing the beauty of the structure.
Even if you're not Christian or not religious at all, you can't help but be in awe of the history places like these hold. And even more, of the architects and especially the workers who have created these buildings without modern technology. And it's still here. The city of Hildesheim luckily left some space around it, so that you can really enjoy and appreciate it in all it's beauty. Highly recommended if this is what you're interested in.

The New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) rises with its beauty in the center of Lower Saxony capital just by a small pond and big Maschsee Lake.
It's the seat of Municipal government being built in the early 20c, replacing the old medieval Town Hall which is in Altstadt (old town).
Visiting is totally free except climbing the Dome. Amazing and rich in details architecture both, outside and inside.
Most interesting I found four big and precise models of Hannover over ages.
The first is from 1689 as a fortified medieval town. After that two models from 1939 and 1945 show the city before and after WWII when it was totally demolished, and finally the fourth one represents the modern and prosperous city of today.
Free to visit are also terrific mosaics on the first floor.
Climbing the Dome is paying few Euros, but problem is the waiting time (in our case over an hour) so we didn't make it

The New Town Hall of Hanover is an absolutely stunning and historic building that is not to be missed. From the moment you set eyes on it, you are struck by its grandeur and beauty. The distinctive clock tower is a true highlight, and the views from the top are breathtaking.

The various other rooms are also worth exploring, and the guided tours are a great way to learn more about the building and its history.
But the New Town Hall is more than just a beautiful building - it is also a thriving hub of activity. It is home to the Hanover city government and is used for administrative purposes, and it is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. Whether you are looking to learn more about the history of Hanover or just want to enjoy a cup of coffee in a beautiful setting, the New Town Hall has something to offer.

Nice historical building. Tower was closed, but should be a 5 star when the tower is open again. Historical 3d models of town from 1680, 1939, 1945 and today was really nice to see.
Hanover's Old Town is a beautiful area to wander around on foot, and one of its landmarks is the Leineschloss palace, which was redesigned in neoclassical style between 1817 and 1842. This former royal residence of Duke George von Calenberg is now the home of Lower Saxony's parliament.
The Leineschloss (English: Leine Palace), situated on the Leine in Hanover, Germany, is the former residence of the Hanoverian dukes, electors and kings. Currently it is the seat of the Landtag of Lower Saxony. The first building on the site was a Franciscan friary, constructed in about 1300, which was abandoned in 1533 after the Protestant Reformation. In 1636, George, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, began construction of a rather small late renaissance palace on the site as his residence. Elector Ernest Augustus had it enlarged and modernized and added a theatre in the late 17th century. In 1742 the north-west wing was renewed. Between 1816 and 1844, the architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves fully re-built the palace. The column portico with six Corinthian columns was built during this period.
During World War II, the Leineschloss burnt out entirely after British aerial bombings. King George I of Great Britain was originally buried in the Chapel of the Leineschloss, but his remains, along with his parents', were moved to the 19th-century mausoleum of King Ernest Augustus in the Berggarten of Herrenhausen Palace after World War II. Architect Dieter Oesterlen re-built the palace between 1957 and 1962.
In August 2016 bones were found in the Leineschloss during a renovation project; it was believed that the bones were the remains of Philip Christoph von Königsmarck, the lover of the wife of the later king George I of Great Britain who was killed there in July, 1694. However, subsequent tests proved that some of the bones were from animals, while the human bones came from at least five different skeletons. None have been proven to belong to Königsmarck.

Architecture is really good but they don't allow as a tourist, it is an official place. Yep we can take photos from outside

Location with amazing view where you can make beautiful pics.
The Erlebnis-Zoo Hannover is a zoo located in Hannover, Germany that features a variety of animals from around the world. The zoo has a well-maintained breeding program for elephants and has a wide variety of animal habitats, including an area dedicated to winter activities.
Great place to visit. You have to plan such as you have a whole day to spend in the zoo. You can see a variety of animals and birds from across the globe. Good place to visit with family and kids. It is pet friendly. There are cafes, children's play areas, gift shops and toilets inside the zoo. There is boating through a water canal and it was a nice experience. The seal show was also good. Over all it was a great day

Beautiful zoo. Very natural animals, fit, well-groomed. Prices in the upper range with 70 euros for 3 people. The employees were consistently friendly. Parking was a 5 minute walk away. The playground is an absolute must for the children, so make sure you plan enough time! And in any case, DO NOT leave the zoo without having an ice cream 🍦 It tastes fantastic.

This zoo was such a disappointment. If you expect a serious conservational effort and educational experience, this is not the place for you. It is more of a thematic animal enclosure experience geared towards children amusement. Mini theme park for kids. They lack staff, and the animals lack proper climate controlled enclosures. They have a whole section dedicated to safari animals, and either they were hiding from the cold so you didn't see them at all, or they were huddled together shivering. It was a really sad sight; much pity for the animals.
Definitely don't visit during winter. Even in summer I'd think twice.. Fortunately the staff were kind enough to issue a refund.

This is a beautiful zoo! One of the best zoos I have seen so far. My favorite part of the zoo was the farm area. There is a huge jungle gym at the end of the zoo. My son had so much. I was able to spend the day here with my family and I can't wait to go back next time we are in town.

Recommend buying tickets a week or two in advance to pay half the price!
Zoo was amazing the animals seemed very happy and lively. You could even step into the inclosure with some animals.
The seal show was really worth the watch.
Spent a really long time here a whole day affair.
Not many restaurants open during the winter season so bring food!
Boat ride was a really addition
The online map isn't great and signposting could be updated but it was the best zoo I have ever been to.

Very lovely architecture, interesting structures for the different animals, lovely layout. A good place to spend a nice weather day. Lots of animals to see.

Please come early! Take the boat 🛶 tour & make sure to watch the seals 🦭 show! 5 hours is the least time to enjoy this place ✨❤️! Theres bathrooms all around and kids play areas all around and a lot cafes and restaurants too inside the venue itself! And there is themed areas with their local kind of animals!! I loved seeing the happy elephants 🐘❤️❤️❤️🦅🐮🐯🦊

Very big , and beautiful I recommend going early so you have time to see everything. Big parking , ticket is a little bit expensive but it is worth it . You can see a lot of animals , there are parks for kids . Inside you can drink, eat, rest(ofc you pay for this too) everything you need you have inside .

Just an amazing zoo, the best one I’ve ever been! I have spent 5 hours there and still didn’t see everything, you must plan a whole day for it. The highlight of it is lion’s family with 3 cubs (born 20.02.2023). They were so cute playing with each other, their mom and even serious father. I just could not leave the spot watching them for half an hour. Unfortunately the glass you are watching through is scratched and opposite sun made it even worse to look and make pictures, but they were so close, just few meters away. Amazing experience! I liked thematically made zones, never seen something like that in other zoo’s. They have feeding hours for animals so you could watch and they tell you some facts about animals but unfortunately only in German. All signs and information are in German too. People say the price 27 euro is expensive but I think it’s totally worth it and you can actually have much cheaper price (15 euro) if you book few weeks in advance through internet. Must see in Hannover!

It is a lovely zoo and it is much bigger than it looks
So make sure to put aside a good amount of time to enjoy it properly
Ann Faust — Google review
I was disappointed as I felt I didn’t get my money’s worth. Most animals were either too far or in hiding. Cafes were closed and the boat ride was under maintenance. The zoo isn’t a handicapped friendly place at least for me personally. All animal descriptions & information was in German so as a non native speaker it wasn’t fun to google translate info about animals I wanted to know more info about.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Hannover Zoo, and I must say it was an incredible experience! The zoo is beautifully designed, with spacious and well-maintained enclosures that provide a comfortable habitat for the animals.
One thing that really impressed me about the Hannover Zoo is their commitment to conservation.
The variety of animals at the Hannover Zoo is truly remarkable. From majestic big cats to playful primates, there's something to captivate visitors of all ages.
In terms of facilities, the Hannover Zoo is well-equipped. There are several restaurants and snack bars throughout the park, offering a variety of refreshments and meals.
Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the Hannover Zoo. It's not only a wonderful place to see a diverse range of animals up close. The dedication of the staff, the beautiful surroundings all contribute to an unforgettable experience.
Lander Bellens — Google review
Wonderful experience! We went on a Tuesday morning when it was not very crowded. There were groups of school children with their clipboards, studying different animals- that was pretty cool.
But, the zoo has a varied collection of animals, with some bot very common to zoos. They also had a petting area with cows and goats and sheep.
The Polar Bears are a beauty to watch.
Donae Walker — Google review
Very nice zoo with good parking possibility, restaurants and play grounds for children are available. The boat ride is amazing and in weekends, it may have around 15 minutes waiting time, which not that much, but worth to do it. For someone leaving around hannover, buying the annual ticket is better than the day ticket.
Herrenhausen Gardens is a vast and ornate 17th century garden in Hannover, Germany that is home to one of Europe's tallest fountains and an open-air theater. The gardens are renowned for their beauty in spring and summer, and are also popular as a tourist attraction.
It is a great museum out under the sky. The visitors can see a well planned large park with a system of fountains. They are 10 - 12 huge fountains and ten smaller ones. Around 32 statues from Greek mithology decorate the main garden. Fantastic! Beautiful ! Stunning place !
Daniela Bankova — Google review
Loved it, the Garden was really nice. The only thing I think that they can improve on is the fact that most items in the museum are in German. Here's the catch, not everyone speaks German. So if the have the souvenirs that read in English or the books about botanical garden translated in English for those who can't read nor speak the language that would be awesome. Overall a really nice place to visit with kids, could be use for educational purposes. Well maintained.

Nice place for nature lover. Good and big place. There is entry fee but for students there is offer, which is around 1-2 euro.so it's best for students to travel.
Daxit Lodaliya — Google review
There is an entry fee. If you go during Monday to Wednesday that fee is less, if you are a student from Mon-Wed it costs 1,50 but during the other days it is 4,50 maybe more, depending whether you want to go to the museum or not (which is closed now).
I would advice any person that goes wants to go there to go during spring/summer time, as in winter time there’s no flowers and everything looks a bit dead.
Apart from that, it is such a beautiful place and it has a lot of history.
Karol Giraldo — Google review
There is always a reason to keep coming back here, the gardens are just so beautifully designed and well maintained. Keep your eye out for events over the festival period, makes a great location to take in some culture. Really to get money's worth from admission price, pack a picnic basket and spend an afternoon inside.

Very large and nice gardens, which were made by Kings of Hanover. Entrance fee 8 Eur, parking 5 Eur

Extensive gardens on a monumental scale. The layout is symmetrical and there are many garden rooms you can visit including the re-creation of a Rococo and Baroque garden. Much statuary and many fountains as well.

Really beautiful Garten. We went there on last Friday. Unfortunately the flowers are still blooming.
If you are planning here and sea life you can buy both tickets together with discount prices.
Visit there website before you go then you can find out there special festivals events.

Nice park to walk around. There are some interesting statues and fountains. I think it’s worth getting the combo ticket that includes Berggarten and Herrenhauser.
Cristina Pocol — Google review
One of the nicest places in the region of Hannover. Notes: avoid noon time visits because the fountains stop watering; bring some snacks/drinks for a picnic. I rated 3 stars by comparing it to gardens in other European countries but if you live or are passing by Niedersachsen it’s definitely worth visiting in summer/spring.
Rodrigo Costa Araújo — Google review
A very large Baroque-style garden lined with well-trimmed trees and marble statues. Not all the flowers were in bloom, and the ponds were not super clean. Not crowded nor noisy; a great place to relax.
This family-friendly tourist attraction covering marine creatures from close to home to faraway tropical destinations is one of the top attractions in Hannover. With 37 pools and tanks housing some 3,500 different sea creatures, there's plenty of opportunity for close-up views of some amazing creatures. In addition to fish and turtles, the museum also houses crocodiles, stingrays, octopuses, sharks, and a wide variety of tropical fish and turtles.
Nice aquarium, kids will love it. You will have one and a half hour of good time. There is a good connection with the train to the center so you can leave your car there parked.

Marked it down by one star due the fact that we still had to queue despite having already purchased tickets. Would be good to have two queues, one for scanning and one for purchasing. Besides that: our girls loved it

It was very busy so we weren’t able to see everything whilst we were there. The entry fee is also quite expensive for how much time you actually spend in there, but I also feel like it was more catered towards families with kids. The place is still very nice and clean and there are some fun things to do for kids. Also, buy tickets in advance as that saves you 2 euros!

I highly recommended this place if you are planning to go somewhere fun & educational activities with kids. The place is small but it’s ok.

If you're looking for a fun and educational activity for the whole family, Sea Life Hannover is a must-visit. This aquarium is beautifully themed like a ship, with different fish and sea creatures to discover at every turn. It's the perfect spot for small kids and big families alike, as there's something for everyone to enjoy.
One of the things I appreciated about Sea Life Hannover was the relaxed pace. It's definitely not a place to rush through - take your time exploring each aquarium and really soaking in the experience. You'll be amazed at the variety of creatures you'll see, from colorful tropical fish to fascinating sea turtles and even sharks!
Overall, I highly recommend Sea Life Hannover. It's a great way to spend a few hours, and the educational value is a bonus. Kids will love seeing the different sea creatures up close, and adults will appreciate the attention to detail and beautiful theming. So take your time, enjoy the experience, and have fun!

It was a very exciting experience for kids and as well as for parents. The place has wide species of aquatic habitants… The best part was walking under a huge glass chamber which was contained with big fishes and turtles. The crocodile was a good surprise… The best place to visit in Hannover in any season.

Nice place to visit. But little expensive. Small area to explore. Before going one should check online the booking slot. It is recommended to book before 3 days atleast. Small kids will definitely enjoy. There are different shows organised in different time. So if one want to see particular show such as meal time for crocodile or insect show, one should check the website before. I was expecting bit more from this but anyways it's ok. It took usually one hour to see everything completely. Shows may have 20 min extra time slot. Altogether 2 hrs time is good.

Tripped over this on an accidental visit to Celle. Just stuck our nose in the door and we were so impressed with such a unique church.
In fact, we would put Celle above Hannover and Hamburg in terms of enjoyable tourist visits in the region. A pretty and relaxing town.
Ian Spencer — Google review
The Church of St. Mary in Celle is certainly one of the most spectacular Protestant churches in Germany. The vivid baroque stucco work by Italian master Giovanni Tornielle is a rare example of the North German baroque, and interesting for its almost Renaissance-like execution and the absence of a central object or clear direction, such as a fresco. Also worth visiting is the much earlier-composed high altar from 1615 with its transitional style and the extravagant baroque epitaphs of the House of Braunschweig-Lüneburg. Make sure to climb the tower and see the remarkable Renaissance planned-city of Celle from above.

This is a beautiful church and you have to see it from the inside as well!
Celle Castle, which has its roots in the medieval era but underwent a Renaissance transformation, is an ornate structure that boasts a lavishly decorated chapel and a Baroque-style theater. The castle's history is emblematic of Europe's architectural evolution over time, as it blends elements of Gothic and Renaissance design to create a unique style all its own. Visitors to Celle Castle can marvel at the intricate details adorning both the exterior and interior of this magnificent cultural landmark.
You can't miss this place if you're in Celle, the castle is pretty old and it looks interesting from inside, lots of art exhibition and, just exploring through yourself is nice but they limit the exhibition room that you can go, unless you choose to do the tour. Overall, it's full with history and infor about Kings and Queens.

Beautiful castle from outside, although it is not bug. It is very close from the old town. We didnt go inside as we didn’t have a lot of time. But, there is a toilet for people who need it. Free of charge. There is also other public toilet nearby, only like 100 m. From the castle, you can see a park with small like from above. Very nice for picnic.

Nice experience though the guided tours was only offered in German. It was a shame that we could not see the castle theater. There are activities in each area for the younger participants to keep them engaged while exploring the castle.
We used approximately 1.5 hours here.

This castle looks so bare outside but because if it's beautiful spacious garden, it's architectural beauty was accentuated. Too bad i haven't had the chance to go inside because of coronavirus restrictions
Melvin Cubian — Google review
There's a lot of history and royal connections to be found here - enough to make your head spin - but it's an elegant palace and well worth a look. Like many similar sites in Germany at the moment, there's an anxiety about protestors (especially the ones secretly carrying spray paint, super glue, etc), so you'll need to leave your coats, bags, and rucksacks in the lockers before you start a tour. It's probably a good thing because the decorations and furniture in the royal rooms are exquisite and priceless.
Make sure you get to see the 15th century chapel (you need to be on a guided tour) it is stunning - one of the most important examples of Renaissance Art in northern Germany. Visitors can only view the interior through a glass wall, which maintains a stable dry atmosphere to preserve the works of art.
