The Castle of Gjirokastra is a renowned landmark that overlooks the city and features military exhibits, a clock tower and a church. It has been in existence since the 12th century, with much of its current state dating back to the early 19th century. The castle was used as a prison during communist rule and is now open to visitors for an entrance fee of 200 Lek.
Great place to visit. Definitely worth checking out when you’re in the city. Adult ticket is 400Lek and another 200Lek for entering the museum itself. Gets busy during the day so choose the early hours.
Lots of descriptions, everything in English as well.
Well equipped and after full restoration will be even nicer.

Coming from this USA, this castle was pretty cool to see considering one of our planes from the cold War is there. You get to read about the history and see all of the views this castle had to offer plus the cannons. There isn't much inside the castle to look at. More waking around and taking in the views.
Adrianna Tondi — Google review
It’s a nice well preserved castle, the tour takes easily an hour if you go slowly.
You have a very good 360 view of the city around but also the big mountains, the river, and the valley which is very nice !
It’s a bit crowded, we were surprised, there was a small 10-15 min queue even to get in.
PREPARE YOUR CASH: it’s 400 Lek per person for the entrance ! That’s a shame, as we travelled around the country and this is the first paid attraction we do!

Must visit if you are in Albania
The views are amazing like right out of a postcard specially when the sky is clear and sunny!
The castle will take you back in time and even if you aren’t a history enthusiast you would be fascinated by reading some of the stories thats mentioned around the castle. We took our time checking out each and every corner which took us around hour and a half approx.
The entry fee inside the castle was like 800 lek for 2 people which im guessing is a tourist price but didn’t mind it after we got to see some spectacular views on a nice sunny day. We didn’t go inside the museum though which i guess would be charged extra.
But overall worth going here and then there is this picturesque old town right down the castle few steps away which is like the star of our trip till now.

Not a lot to do here, a lot of it was under construction. Lovely view from the top. Lots of cannons to see. Good way to waste an hour and a half max. Very cheap to enter. Toilet facilities are a bit rustic.
Bels Overton — Google review
A huge castle to explore, full of cold war cannons, tanks and an abandoned US fighter jet. Well worth the steep approach! Allow about an hour to take in the views and read about the history while visiting the worthwhile museum. Definitely the highlight of this brilliant little town!
Mike Ellis — Google review
We had a wonderful experience visiting the castle! The location is truly beautiful and impressive. The ticket price of 4 euros per person is affordable, making the visit all the more enjoyable.
However, before we go, I want to warn you about the facilities available. Due to the fact that the location is dotted with cisterns, it is essential that you have a bottle of water with you that you can refill during your visit, especially as the location is vast and you will need water along the way.
Also note that before entering the Old Town, there is a paid underground parking lot to leave your car. Make sure you have valid coins or payment methods to avoid inconvenience.
Another important point to mention is that the location has no safety fences, which means you need to keep a close eye on children to avoid accidents.
All in all, the castle is definitely worth visiting due to its beauty and reasonable ticket price. Be prepared with water for the visit and make sure to look after the little ones. However, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time exploring this impressive location!

Amazing place to visit! The views are stunning. You can see the Unesco village, the mountains and the valley. The castle has a lot of history and is well preserved after the renovation. The festival area is a great spot for nice pictures. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Very nice location, but we were missing some guidance. We would have liked if there was some explanation now and then. On the other hand, it was nice to imagine your own story while walking trough this amazing medieval castle.

Typical place for tourists but no worries travelers......worth to pop in. The castle is amazing, well preserved....history went over this place and left a treasure here. Loads shops around to buy something typical and loads restaurants to relax and have something nice for your belly. View are amazing there. I m not fun of touristic spots but from time to time it s good to learn about people and their roots, what created them, their culture and habits. You ll see if you see this place.....will be definitely welcome.

Enjoyed the walk up to the castle and the entrance fee was 400ALL each, that however was only for the castle as there was another fee for the museum of Arms, which was 200ALL. We found this frustrating as we asked before paying what ticket we needed . They could just charge 600ALL as you cannot get into the museum without entering the castle.
The castle was very good lots of renovation work being carried out, it will be amazing once finished. Some information boards with English which was good.
The views were fantastic .

Few days ago, we were there and they are having the festival Floklorik and open accept the ONLINE ticket for entrance. It's a place full of history but I would love to have more explanation / history info with sign/panel. It's beautiful but I have no idea what's the each area/room for in the ottoman's time.
The Albania set up a great stage for the event which we met the performance people doing rehersal there, so cool!

Beautiful views on the city. You can walk by yourself or do an audio guide. Throughout the site are info boards with interesting facts. Don’t miss the timeline at the right side when you enter.
400 Lek for entrance, if needed you can park (limited places)

Loved it! Worth the money. We paid 400 leke (if you want to visit the museum it will be 200 leke more, but we didn't)
It is very informative and there is a lot to see + a great view from the top
It's very cool inside so that's nice for hot summer days
There are a lot of interesting stories all around the castle from which you can learn new things

Most recently used during communist era of Albanian history to imprison and destroy, it is a somber, yet fascinating place with at least 1500 years of history layered in its foundations and walls. The view from the top of the walls is incredible. The outer arches which once contained the markets and displayed artisan wares spike the imagination. The sheer amount of stone in this enormous castle is mind blowing. Definitely worth the visit, the history, the views, the reflection and imagining.

It's a small historical palace and the market around the place is beautiful as well.

This is MUST SEE of the beautiful city Gjirokastër. I highly recomend to visit this beautiful place.
The entrance fee is 4€/400leke, there is extra 2€/200leke if your want to enter the museum in the Castle (history of Castle - English describtion, Guns collection with history of the WW2 and the Communism prison - no English describtion).
The views from the Castle are astonishing (in the very positive way).

Very interesting! They have scheduled events going on inside the castle, check it before visiting for added experience. We were able to watch like a piano competition of children and they were all very good. The history surrounding the castle was very interesting. Would visit again

Amazing experience. It requires a good walk uphill to get there. However, there may be a better way to drive there for those with difficult mobility.
We paid 200 LEK each for entrance in September.
This is really cheap for the size of the place and how interesting it is.
It lacks some explanation around the history, and guided tours were not available. However, it was not an issue as the views and the information available made this visit one of the highlights of our trip.

This was a lovely castle with plenty to do, walking around, stories and beautiful scenery. It also is very inexpensive. Have to have their local money.
A three store beautiful house from the early 19th c. Some of the rooms are furnished according to it's initial use. The main room is really beautiful. Worth the visit for 200 l.
The person that worked there gave us a beautiful tour around the house

A nice place to visit while in Gjirokastra. Got a guided tour for 200 lek per person, where we were shown around all the rooms in the house.
Probably a must-see if you want to experience some of the old Ottoman architecture.

Really cool! Shows how life looked like in the old Gjirokastra houses. Plus the view from the upper floor is breathtaking!!!!
For the cheap ticket, definitely recommend.

This is a unique and memorable cultural travel experience. *Much better* than the Ethnographic Museum! It is a (wealthy) family house from 1700, completely preserved. After entering, you get guided through all 3 floors of the mansion by Edlira who has a lot of knowledge about the rooms, its objects, and the customs of 18th century life in Gjirokaster. Not pictured here is the most beautiful of the rooms, where no photos are allowed. Or any of the small hamam rooms.
This museum is 300 lek entry. A must-see in my opinion.
Damian Tapley — Google review
Looked nice from the outside but like many of the sights in the city, except the castle, it is closed! I wanted to go to the ethnographic museum but this was closed too. The roads all round are being dug up. I guess it's all going towards tourism in summer, which is a shame.

A fascinating tour given by the house owner's daughter, with lots of information about her ancestors' way of life. She's a very engaging guide with a strong personal connection and the house and setting is beautiful and well preserved.

For 300Lek ticket price no equivalent value.
In the only nicer room with painting around the fireplace photography was not permitted.
Somewhat disappointing..

I was very excited to see this house. I have travelled to over 25 countries, and I try to be as respectful of people's cultures, rules, requests etc... at all times. As I am a human, and prone to making mistakes, I unfortunately missed a sign stating no photos in their upper "premiere" room (which was beautiful I may add). When the young man giving the tour saw me lining up my camera, he said no photos. I immediately stopped. In fact, I didn't even take one. Where this low rating comes from, was his insistence on humiliating a tourist in front of strangers, claiming how could I miss the large sign (which wasn't THAT huge), asking me if I took a photo, and then claiming he saw me take it! I denied it, and he continued to argue that I did. I had to invite him to come over and look at my photos...which he felt the need to do! I have loved 100% of my interactions with all local Albanians....minus this young man. I'm hoping he has a chance to reflect on this situation and improve his interactions with tourists. The house is still worth a visit, but beware of taking photos!

This house brings an interesting view to history. Unfortunately to a price of 300 lek, which I think are too much. I don’t mind paying and the money being used to preserve this place, but the price is not justifiable. The lady at the entrance was not really friendly or welcoming, but gave us a tiny tour later on.
Heisenberg — Google review
There was a lady there giving us detailed introduction of every room and the stories of the house and Skenduli family. More interesting than I expected. I didn’t see much in Gjirokastër as the bus driver didn’t give too much time but Skenduli House made the trip worth it.
Lexi LUO — Google review
Such a beautiful house. We went through the house on our own. Would be helpful if information was on each floor. Perhaps a person with English as a first language could edit the descriptions as the translations are awkward. Perhaps a donation box could be available for a project. We noticed some leaking due to rain. This house is so special and I am certain the upkeep is expensive. After the castle, this house is highly recommended.
Marilyn Drews — Google review
That would actually take 3.5 stars.
Entry price is 300lek/3euro. I guess the man who guided us is the current owner of the house, informed us about the use of some rooms. In the upper two floors there is the main hall with paintings, a few bedrooms decorated old-style and another room, where women got to meet their future husbands back in the 18th century (photos are not allowed there).
Worth a visit if you have spare time, but you won't miss something special if you don't go. Visit time is 15-20 minutes.

Gjipe Beach is a secluded and picturesque white sand beach located between Dhermi and Vuno. The beach is surrounded by large cliffs, and there are caves that can be explored in the area. This hidden gem is mostly undeveloped, making it an ideal destination for those seeking peace and solitude.
This was without any doubt, my favorite visited beach in Albania.
To get there, you have to drive until’ you reach the parking lot of the beach, the lady that works there is very helpful, you have to pay 300 LEK for the parking place. To reach the beach you have to walk 20 min, it’s a pretty difficult road, but it was all worth it.

It's a cool hideout specially in summer times I belive. I love the place, but the road or the hike to it is all messy and cracky. It's only a 3 KM round trip hike. Takes a 20 min down and 25 min up.
The trail full of Bunkers 😄, people were crazy building those bunkers, found 7 of them, how much did you found?

Beautiful beach between cliffs! You have to walk 20 minutes aprox to get to the beach from the parking.
I read in many reviews the road was difficult, but I didn’t felt that way, it’s just full of stones. I made a picture of it for you to see.
Landscape was worthy!
I recommend!

Beautiful beach with a great natural surroundings but ruined by the people running the restaurants and bars (very rude and unfriendly), by the wild camping, by having the whole beach covered in sunbeds and umbrellas and litter and rubbish all over. I don't regret visiting it but I don't recomend it at all !
Jo?o Fernandes — Google review
I have to admit I had way more expectations given the reviews.
At the end, it is just another beach with pebbles.
You need to park and pay 300 lekes, 3 euros. Then walk 20 minutes.
There are 3 restaurants. We had lunch at the first one and we had to wait literally 1 hour for a salad, a fish and the worst chicken ever, completely dry.
Jaume Ávila Estivill — Google review
Beautiful secluded beach. Giving 4 stars because of the hike to get down there (which is why it's so secluded). Wear good shoes if you decide to make the trip. Also must pay to park as well. besides that, the water was crystal clear. There were food stands available if needed. Dogs roaming the beach to play with. Beach was a bit Shelly, so I'd recommend one you get there. Gorgeous views from the walk too.

In August 2021 I had a vacation in Albania. And we visited this beach. It is very beautiful place but the road is very difficult. ( Like all roads in Albania, in fact).
We rented a car and went from Vlora. Firs we overcame the mountain serpentine (about 2 hours), then we turned on a one-way trail and drived about 50 minutes to the parking. By the way, parking was paid. Then, we walked to the beach under hot sun about 40 minutes. And finally we were there. But there were a lot of people and all the umbrellas were occupied.
I think, better to go to the Gjipe beach in low season. Because in August there are traffic jam, very hot weather and a lot of tourists.

After the climb down its a nice little beach, no sand though as usual.. Would of liked to paddle board but not worth carrying it the 40 mins walk down..

One of the most beautiful beaches ever. You can reach it half by car and rest walking, or by boat 🚢 like us and enjoy the wonderful nature surrounded. Water seems you can drink it because is crystal clear.
Ermida Hasani — Google review
Very quiet on the month of early March! It's really cold and we couldn't go into the sea, however comfortable to chill with carpet at the place and enjoy the colors of nature. The hike is long and rocky, quite challenging to walk non-stop as it's one direction up/down hike. Water are very clear and it is as beautiful as you can see in the pictures.
Yan Ying Lim — Google review
It takes about 15-20 minutes walking to get to the beach but it is definitely worth the effort despite the scorching heat and sweat. On the way back, up the hill it is even more challenging but you won’t regret it as the beach is gorgeous. You can leave your car at the parking place which is chargeable 300 Lek. On the beach there are sun beds for rental and plenty of space to sit on your own blanket or a towel but make sure you have your own umbrella or tent to hide as there isn’t much shade nearby. A few beach bars to get refreshing drinks and crystal-clear water to cool down and have a swim. You may also take up the hiking trail into the canyon and explore the sight if you feel like. Gjipe Beach is one of the most incredible places in the coast of Albania and if you happen to drive by, make a stop and have a look around.

Best beach of all albania.
To reach it you have to walk for 30 minutes on a dirt street. Shoes are suggested.
You can observe the gjipe canion and at the same time gjipe beach. Just amasing.

The most beautiful beach we went to in Albania. You have plenty of parking but it costs 300LEK for the day. The road to the beach is like a 25m trek. Not that hard but just keep that in mind. The road to the parking is really badly designed one way road with a few side parking spots whenever a car comes for the opposite but curbs are really high so you cant just pull to the side with a normal car.
Zsolt Ferencz — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches near Himare. From the parking lot you have to walk 15 minutes! Wear good shoes. 1500 leek for umbrella and 2 cheapies which is fair price for a small hidden beach.
Tip: when arrive, go to the left side near the rocks, there are some hidden cave and spots with shadow (If you don’t want to pay for umbrella)
The place is also a camping spot, so very cosy vibes
Cecilie Nguyen — Google review
Because the road is rocky, wear walking shoes instead of sliders. The parking fee was 200 lek for the entire day, which is about 1.60 euro. The beach and sand are both fantastic, so it is well worth a visit. On the beach, there are four bars. It takes about 20 minutes to walk there.
Antonijo Buhovac — Google review
Super nice beach, but it is quite a hustle to get there. I would recommend going early morning, so you can secure a spot at the parking space. Also, when you drive from the main road to the parking place, there is just one lane, while it is two way traffic. We heard that the guys working at the parking place can be quite direct (or even aggressive), but after we paid for the parking place, they were quite friendly. From the parking place, it is a 30 minute walk to the beach itself. It is recommended to wear (decent) shoes and no flip flops.

Anazing beach!! One of my favourotes in Albania! We even went back for a second time at the end of our vacation.
Not a lot of people, great water and you can rent SUPs and Kayak for a fair price! The canyons in the background and the whole nature around is just wonderful.
The walk there from the parking spot (300Lek) is about 25 min and its a little rocky but managable!
Note: the second time we went there, there were more people because the main season for the camping started and they put a lot more umbrellas and chairs on the beach (which are quite expensive). And with more people there was also more trash.

Water crystal clear, quite some restaurants around. There is a nice promenade and nice to walk there in the evening. The price for 2 sunbeds and a parasol is between 1000-1500 LEK. Parking can be a problem and the smell of the trash is really bad and strong. I hope they would clean daily and don't let the trash smell very bad.

Beautiful beach with white smooth pebbles, the water is clear. The sea here is very deep and the waves were high and strong. We didn’t need any special shoes to enter the sea.
Umbrella + 2 sofas cost 1000 lek/d.
Unfortunately still a lot of trash everywhere, even though the situation is better than in other cities.
There are a lot of restaurants and hotels along the shore. Only at Luciano it was possible to pay contactless.
If you have a car, you can stay in the city (cheaper), otherwise you’ll need 1-2 hours to get from the city to the beach.
Kateryna S — Google review
Beautiful landscape, but for beaching is wrong choice. Not good for families. Cool and expensive. Boastful guys working in bars... People who work in catering much more modest and friendly in Vlora and Durres. On the beach is not sand, there are only stones, you can't walk on them, you can't go into the water without shoes. Water is very cold in end of June, about 18-20 Celsius. In Vlora a sunbed for a day is 300 lek, here 700-1000 lek. (There I got bill, here not, I felt it's scam because I speak other language. Take care when pay here, ask bill.)
I have been many place of the world, it's a strongly overrated place. :)
The Onufri Museum is a collection of Byzantine icons and religious objects that are displayed at the Church of the Dormition of St Mary in Kala, Albania. The church, which dates back to 1797 and was built on an earlier chapel from the 10th century, features stunning gilded iconostasis from the 19th century alongside Onufri's impressive 16th-century religious paintings.
Very well preserved and put-together, I found this museum highly worthwhile and enjoyable with the audio guide. The music is well-chosen on it and adds a lot! One of the better museums I’ve seen in Albania.

If at all interested in Byzantine icons, this museum is excellent! Recommend the audioguide as gives plenty of information not displayed in the museum

Interesting artifacts, but I found the explanation of the historical background more interesting. The audio guide is a cheap extra so it's recommended. A good chance to see what an old Orthodox church looks like including the altar area which normally can only be accessed by priests.
Onufri was a famous icon painter beginning in the middle of the 16th century AD. Many of his paintings are displayed here along with others by anonymous artists.
Gary Brazel — Google review
To visit this museum, you must be fond of art and especially iconography. This place has some not very authentic artifacts, but few of them really leave an impression when you look at them. I don't think that the price is discussed in museums, but for those interested, I am telling you that the price is negligible for what you will enjoy! 😊
Joana Gjeka — Google review
The site is amazing and worth visiting, but the staff and general corruption of the place is stunning.
They claim not having student discount for foreign people, only Albanian (talk about discrimination lol, when in other countries, EU or not, a student is a student always if they are able to show ID). See picture with sign attached and tell me where is the constraint they claim.
They said that is the rule (according to government, never seen a paper of it, just had to take their word) but the sign isn't clearly specifying that 'albanian-only' rule
And they won't give a complaints book of any sort when requested... Corruption once again.
They also advised to go into their museum website to buy the tickets online but the purchasing URL is broken and the page isn't even implemented (not even in Albanian). Unbelievable. Talk about loopholes to charge more...
We're here spending our money visiting their heritage, but if they themselves are unable to stand by their own rules, well... Then that's a hint on why they're not yet EU.
I went in anyway and encourage to do so, but bear in mind that pls, there's discrimination, ironically.

Is worth to visit it if you are interested in art but bare in mind that service and presentation could be better. Museum is located in old church. You can see in one place several icons which were also previously presented in West European galleries. You can go behind iconostasis, which is rather unique opportunity.
Opens only till 18:00 in summer and 3 minutes later everyone must be out. You have to plan 1,5h for visit otherwise you will just run through it...
Judging from comments price increased lately from 200 ALL to 400 ALL. Audio-guide cost extra 100 ALL. It is worth to take it as explaines details which you won't find in poor description near paintings... However it's not perfect as well. In several places it should contain extra information under green button which was missing. When I asked about it in ticket office none was really bothered...
Another thing is most of the wall paintings are barely visible due to poor/ lack of light. It's not allowed to do pictures inside but everyone does as you can see in many reviews.
Very good beach for young people, there is parking right to the beach but u can park on the road also,2beds with umbrella 500lek.
Good service, people that work here are nice
There is music that its loud, its okay for young people but i dont like that its albanian only

Very nice little beach. With cool music playing & a good snack bar. « Only » 4 stars because it’s a pebble beach. So if you don’t mind, go for it 👍
Stephan Croix — Google review
Unfortunately I have to give 2 stars, the sea is very good, the vibe is nice and the umbrella is in line with the other places. Nevertheless, as many other beaches, the whole place is missing the basics. When trying to order a beer they only have german ones, I am in Albania and I want to experience the local taste. I had to go to the place next to it. We tried to get some food, and they did not have any pasta or pizza, they literally told us to leave. I can’t even comment the toilet situation which is unspeakable.
The service is ok, the guys are trying the best and are as helpful as they can be. During peak hours you can def see the stress from them and they scream at each other, this can scare away clients and they are totally chaotic.
On a note, I want to give a shout out to the guy with tattoos, I really enjoyed his approach and smile and calmness with clients, good job!

Terrible music, so loud and annoying.
When you come to vacation you want to listen to some relaxing music, reggae or summer jazz...

This place was recommended to us by our hotel. Overall It is quite average. They don’t accept credit card - don’t speak English. Service is not really friendly. Asked for a taxi on our way back - no response from staff. Menu is quite basic - pizzas were good size/average taste (450-800 lek).
Dirty toilets. No changing cabins. Overall cleanness of the facility is poor. Loud music throughout the day which doesn’t make sense because general customer base is families with kids. Sea was quite clean, not too deep but rocky. 1000 lek for 2 beds/umbrella (poor quality wooden sunbeds that you can’t position up more than 30 degrees)

This beach is wonderful, but if you prefer less crowded spots like I do, it's best to visit on weekdays. The weekends see a surge in visitors, making parking quite a challenge. For a peaceful experience, opt for a weekday visit. Additionally, be prepared for some rather unfriendly interactions with the locals.

I was skeptical due the negative reviews but this beach is super cute and small. Perfect for either a family or group of friends. It is much better to go to this beach rather than all the way to Dhermi.
The beach bar is very nice, beautiful view of the sea, good service and the food is tasty for decent prices.
Umbrella is 1000leki which is a bit overpriced, the chairs were a bit old. Overall this is best beach I have visited in Vlorë region, very similar to Dhermi (I liked Bora Bora better tbh). The beach is with stones, and water is crystal clear. You also have spots where you can jump in the water.
Skip the negative reviews and go check it out. Totally worth it.

The Service is so slow.
The food it’s the worst.
15 min for a salad. 50 min for pasta and 65 for pizza. the prices are relatively high compared with other places and when it comes to an end you don’t get the service or the food.
a lot of staff, but all of them are restless and their behavior is not good.

1. The parking is a must here and you have to pay even if you re going in to their private park.
2. They're rude to you if they see that you have a freezer(refrigerator case)for some lotions and water and they will ask you to leave if you don't leave it in to the car.
3. You have to wait alot till someone is coming to pick up your order and at least 1 hour for some food(in total we waited for 2 hours).
4. The water have so many sharp stones and you'll cut your feet trying to get in for a swim.
5. The bathroom was disgusting and we even had a big inspect in to the cabin.
I don't recommend this beach at all.
Berat Castle is a vast 13th-century fortress that once accommodated numerous churches and a mosque. Positioned on top of a hill, it requires some exertion to walk up from the bus station, but it's feasible with large bags. Along the way, there are budget-friendly dining options available. However, those who prefer not to walk can arrange transportation ahead of time. Staying at the base of Berat Castle is shorter than staying inside the fortress itself.
Access to the castle is unrestricted, you can walk around really freely. There are bars, restaurants and souvenir shops at the top. Also there are some guesthouses.
The walk up to the castle is a difficult one, there’s is parking at the top so if you have access to a car it might be wise to drive up.

Berat Castle is a fortress overlooking the town of Berat. It is one of the few castles with houses and residents living in it alongside restaurants, cafes and multiple historic sites. It has many Byzantine churches and ottoman mosques. The entry is free. It is essentially a town inside another town. It is a steep walk up from the town below to the Castle (but this portion is accessible by a car) and requires a bit of up and down walking in the castle. As such comfortable shoes are a must. But overall it is absolutely worth it because it offers stunning views from various vantage points in the Castle and historic treasures abound. I suggest setting aside a few hours to enjoy as many cultural sites as possible and time your visit to take in the sunset.

We drove over an hour specifically for this place and it did not disappoint us. Beautiful site. Habitable ancient castle with narrow streets. Occupies top of the hill with strategic views on surroundings. Cozy inside. Below is an ancient village worth visiting too.

The castle in Berat is a fascinating place, exuding the rustic charm of ancient Byzantine times. Its ancient structures serve as a window into the past, allowing you to see how people once lived there. The family preserving traditions for five generations adds a unique spirit to this place. You'll delight in discovering homes preserved since Byzantine times and relish the view of 1000 windows in Berat, which once accommodated up to 800 families. It's truly a unique journey through history and traditions.

Amazing views over the city, one of Albania's many beautiful castles on top of a mountain, it's overall well preserved but in need of some maintenance here and there, many places to see inside the castle walls, coffee's, restaurants, souvenir shops and also small hotels or guest houses are available, you can also book guided tours in many languages. Berat Castle (Albanian: Kalaja e Beratit), also referred to as the Citadel of Berat and castle quarter, is a fortress overlooking the town of Berat, Albania. It dates mainly from the 13th century and contains many Byzantine churches in the area and Ottoman mosques.[1] It is built on a rocky hill on the left bank of the river Osum and is accessible only from the south. It is situated at an elevation of 214 metres. Wikipedia

AMAZING loved the medieval citadel at the top of Berat. Enjoyed wandering the streets, getting slightly lost and finding my way again. Not suitable for wheelchair users or if you aren’t confident walking as it’s a town or trip hazards! The history is fascinating, the museum is well
worth a visit and the views sublime. The cafes and handicrafts are all a fair price. The views sublime.

Very nice and large castle. It takes more or less 2h to visit all the spots. The entrance was free and the restaurants inside are not overpriced.
Inside there are some horses for tourist walk but please avoid..
To arrive there you have to walk 20 minutes from Berat on a steep road under the sun so just remember to bring a bottle of water.

It’s a free tour, which is already amazing! I highly recommend to go around 5-7pm, when the sun goes down and you can enjoy a nice sunset! Plus the hike up there, it’s pretty steep so if you do it under the heat, it’s tough!
You can also go with the free local guided tour, they go up with you, walk you around the castle and show you a lot of spots: the mosque, the churches, the viewpoint and explain the whole story of the city from above.
Highly recommend, it was very enjoyable

Berat Castle stands as an unparalleled testament to Albania's rich history and cultural heritage, offering visitors an immersive journey through time. As one ascends the old road leading to the castle, flanked by the quintessential Berat houses, a profound sense of awe and reverence envelops the soul.
The cobblestone path winds its way through a picturesque landscape, where traditional Ottoman-style dwellings, with their white stone walls and red-tiled roofs, stand proudly as guardians of the past. Each step along this ancient thoroughfare feels like a pilgrimage, honoring the generations of inhabitants who have called this enchanting city home.
The emotion evoked while traversing this historic route is akin to stepping into a living museum, where the past seamlessly intertwines with the present. The scent of centuries-old stone mingles with the fragrant blooms of bougainvillea, creating a sensory tapestry that transports visitors to another era. With every passing moment, anticipation builds, culminating in the breathtaking sight of Berat Castle perched majestically atop the hill.
As the castle comes into view, its imposing silhouette against the backdrop of the azure sky inspires a sense of wonder and admiration. The centuries-old fortress, with its formidable walls and commanding towers, exudes an aura of timeless grandeur. It serves as a poignant reminder of Albania's storied past, where empires rose and fell, leaving behind a legacy etched in stone. For those fortunate enough to visit Berat Castle in the afternoon, a truly magical experience awaits. As the sun begins its descent, casting a warm golden glow over the city below, the castle is bathed in an ethereal light. The interplay of shadows and illumination creates a mesmerizing spectacle, transforming the ancient stones into shimmering beacons of history.
I highly recommend timing your visit to coincide with the evening hours, when the fading light gives way to the gentle twinkle of street lamps and the flickering glow of candles. This enchanting ambiance lends an air of romance to the castle grounds, inviting visitors to linger and savor the beauty of the moment. In conclusion, Berat Castle is a true gem of Albania, deserving of its five-star rating.
From the emotional journey along the old road to the awe-inspiring sight of the castle itself, every aspect of the experience is nothing short of extraordinary. Whether you're a history buff, a photography enthusiast, or simply a lover of beauty, a visit to Berat Castle promises memories that will last a lifetime.

Beautiful castle the unique thing about this castle is that people still live there inside the castle area there is also old houses same style of the whole village and some nice restaurants shops super cool to see them caring the culture and the history until today ✨ the castle take about 1h for a complete tour under the flag there is a really beautiful view of the whole village. On the other side there is also a beautiful view of the other side of the village with a beautiful church from the 1300. the sunset view with the mountains in the background is insane and that is also what is unique about Albania in general. The toilet were closed don’t forget your water and snacks. To get there there is a hike from the river side where you can see the church all the way to the castle. Amon good map you can find the normal road to get to the castle.

The castle walls and the houses inside have a historical structure. However, it is truly astonishing that ordinary people still live inside. There are cafes and restaurants inside. I also recommend you to visit the church inside. For those coming from the terminal, I do not recommend walking if the weather is rainy. Because the cobblestones in the side street become wet and slippery.

Set aside three to four hours as it's a whole village within the castle walls including hotels, restaurants and cafes. It's a steep climb up a cobbled road to reach the castle but doable for the reasonably fit. You can drive up or get a taxi as there is car parking up there.
The views from the top are spectacular.

St. Mary's Monastery, also known as Zvernec Monastery, is a unique religious site located on an island within the Narta Lagoon to the north of Vlore. The monastery is secluded and mythical, making it an impressive destination for visitors. It features a beautiful church with old Byzantine icon paintings on its walls. The surrounding area offers stunning water views and picturesque sunsets, making it a popular spot for bridal photoshoots.
The monastery is small, however the bridge connecting to the monastery is spectacular. It's curvy and sturdy, extremely special. We went at off peak season so there's no one else. We parked at the roadside in front of the deck and there is one vendor selling food and drinks.

Beautifully preserved/restored monastery built during the second half of the 14th century. Lovely stroll out to the site via a wooden foot bridge. Saw several birds and lots of crabs in the water. No admission fee but there was a donation box inside the chapel. Worth a visit if you’re in the area but otherwise I probably wouldn’t go out of my way. We were only there about 20 minutes.

It's a very pretty monastery. It has been well preserved since the renovation. The foot bridge out to it needs about two dozen boards replaced, so be careful. The island cats are very chill. The sign says no pictures, but the security guard doesn't mind if you take some.

Amazing monastery secluded in a faraway island found in a lagoon. It is quite mythical, and most certainly impressive. We actually walked the entire path from Vlore to here, which was a beautiful walk where you can find bunkers buried in people’s gardens and more. The road is in fact quite sunny and full of bugs though so be prepared for that. It was relatively quick and easy to hitchhike back home as well.

Covered in pines, this small gorgeous island off the coast of Vlora can be reached by walking along a 270- meter-long bridge, offering the visitor a one-of-a-kind experience with nature.
Sitting at 30 meters above sea level, this picturesque island is named after the village of the same name, located about 13 km from the city of Vlora. Famous for its stunning forest of tall pines extending along nine hectares of land, the fairly small island also hosts the well-preserved 13th century byzantine Monastery of St. Mary. While Zvërnec is indeed compact in size, at approximately 400 meters in length and 300 meters in width, the island packs a magical experience.

Zvernec Monastery is located on Narta Lagoon. I walked from Vlore, but about 20 minutes with a car. You will be able to see marine life in the lagoon: fish, crabs and some flamingos if you're lucky. The monastery is very well maintained, beautiful and peaceful. Make sure you visit the nearby naval bunker, fire control bunker, lighthouse, beaches- all with beautiful views. Most visitors miss these places.

Nice place with the ruins of the ancient city of Fier called Apollonia. When we were there, some new ruins were discovered and when you go there some others might be there as well. It is a very nice place but i am giving it 4 stars only because the place is a bit dirty, as we found the usual plastic bottles on the grass and other trash, and because getting there is a bit hard as there are not many road signals or they are hard to read.

I confess I do love an archaeological site. But Apollonia does a really impressive job of transforming this large site into an actual lived-in city, whilst also maintaining pleasant grounds with landscaping and wild flowers in abundance. The signage has clearly been updated with CGI images of how the ruins would have appeared (particularly impressive with the Arch and two-storey promenade) and the portico and odeon are hugely impressive in their own right. The monastery and museum are also very photogenic and nice to walk around (a young couple were having wedding photos there), though the museum's collection of busts and pottery could be better curated. Most excitingly for me, I stood in the Library where Octavius Augustus most likely studied - top celeb-spotting! Well worth a visit

Don’t expect a pristine, shiny looking sight. The building is in a derelict state and you can’t go inside - you can only have a look through the broken parts of windows. However, this place is definitely worth visiting when you’re in Tirana. It will definitely give you an insight into the communist part of Albanian history.

The Pyramid of Tirana is a really cool attraction that you shouldn't miss when you visit the city! It's a huge, pyramid-shaped building in the center of town that was built a long time ago, during a time when the country was very different.
Inside, you can explore different floors full of exhibits that show what Albania was like in the past. It's super interesting to learn about the country's history and see all the cool stuff on display.
The Pyramid is also a really unique and impressive building. It's so big and imposing, it really stands out in the city. Even if you don't know anything about its history, you'll be in awe of its size and design.
At the same time, the Pyramid is also kind of controversial because of its past associations with the former dictatorship. Some people want it taken down, while others want it preserved in some way. Either way, it's a really important part of Tirana's history and identity.
Overall, if you're interested in history, architecture or just something really cool to see, definitely go check out the Pyramid of Tirana when you visit the city!

An interesting piece of Albanian history and one of several abandoned places that are worth exploring. It is easy to enter and many people do, but watch your step when you walk around, as the place is in disrepair. You can climb some stairs to see the upper floors or go to the basement, but again, be careful where you step. Also, it seems that some people (probably homeless) are staying there at night, so you'll encounter some trash and waste.

I visited today (April 2019) and they are in the process of blocking it off. Fence encompasses the entire front side, working around each side. The back is still open but it appears they plan to circle the whole building. Very quirky architecture and sad to see it in such disrepair. Hopefully someone is getting ready to do an update!

A must see spot in Tirana! Huge building in the middle of a big park that takes up a whole block, it’s an impressive construction and hard to miss from afar. It’s very nicely lighten up during the sunset and night and the surroundings are also well maintained along with some interesting new constructions.
It has 200 steps but the view is worth it, it’s a bit of a shame that some of the new buildings are blocking some of it though. It provides a nice 360 view, and it’s quite interesting to see both sides of the city so clearly.
The pyramid has also a long history, as it has been there for a long time and it’s nice to see that it has been repurposed to serve the city and the country.

Looks awesome during and after then sunset when lights are ON! The renovated pyramid provides a great view point of the center of Tirana after going up a long flight of stairs. Nice way of preserving what was a not too beautiful historical building.
This mosque, built in the 18th century, is one of Skanderbeg Square's most iconic attractions. The Mosque features colourful frescoes both inside and out, as well as being an important part of Tirana's history. In 1991, 10,000 people came together outside the mosque in an event which helped contribute to the fall of Albania's communist government.
Gorgeous, quite distinctive mosque in the centre of Tirana. Like almost every other mosque in Albania, is one of the oldest mosques in Albania. That's what iconoclasm gets you.

This is one of very few mosques in Albania to resist the communist regime without being demolished. It has an ottoman architecture but it is quite unique with its still life paintings, something rarely seen in Islamic architecture. It's a first-category monument of culture. It is also one of the most beloved mosques for muslims in Tirana, since it is located right in the city center, it is one of the oldest and it is a symbol of survival of faith.

Lovely historical mosque that you can visit today that serves as a museum,
Take your shoes off and get ready for a journey through time 💙
At the entrance of the mosque you can find the grave of Ethem Bey and his wife, make sure not to miss those,
A must see on Skanderbey square 😻

A very beautiful and very well preserved Ottoman mosque. Takes the visitor back to that period. A museum for non-muslims and full functioning mosque for Muslims where prayer is carried out with Jammat 5 times a day. Peaceful, clean and filled with friendly amazing people.
We prayed Fajr, Zuhar and Isha there. Ladies can do abolution if they are there 30-50 minutes before the prayer time and have a separate section for praying. For men the abolution are is just down in the basement and they can pray in inside hall or outside hall.

Beautiful monument but the skyline is being botched by all scyscrapers that are not even finished. Its very well known and its definitely worth the visit, although to be fair, it's almost impossible to miss it as it stands in the main square, the middle of the city.

The Hajji Et'hem Bey Mosque (Albanian: Xhamia e Haxhi Et'hem Beut) is a mosque in Tirana, Albania which is a cultural monument. The mosque is adorned with beautiful frescoes outside and in the portico depicting trees, waterfalls and bridges (typically walls are white and this is an exception). Tourists can go inside but need to take off shoes and comply with the dress code. Pictures without flash are allowed to be taken inside. The mosque construction was started in late 18th century and finished in early 19th century. It survived the years of communism and functions as a mosque today. It takes 10-15 minutes to complete the tour (i.e., go inside to appreciate the history and beauty of the building) and is highly recommended. Entry is free. Friendly staff inside could provide additional guidance /support.

Very unique mosque with the frescoes. I have visited many many countries and prayed in many mosques but this was one of the most unique and probably one of my favourite mosques.

According to their brochure onstruction began in 1791 or 1794 and wasn't completed until 1829 or 1821. It ceased functioning as a mosque during Communist times until in 1991 10,000 people forced their way inside. Colorful frescos decorate it.

The Et'hem Bej Mosque stands as a symbol of Albania's religious and cultural heritage. What makes it truly remarkable is its remarkable history, surviving years of communist rule and serving as a beacon of religious freedom since the early 1990s. The interior, adorned with intricate frescoes, is a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of its builders. Visitors seeking both architectural beauty and a glimpse into Albania's past will find the Et'hem Bej Mosque a captivating and peaceful destination worth exploring.

This is a 500 year old mosque 🕌 fully restored to its original glory and is still used as a place of worship & one can visit it outside the prayer time until evening 4 pm. It’s located on the Skanderberg square & not to be missed. The murals and the floral artwork on the outside & inside of the mosque is amazing.

Skanderbeg Square is a large, central square in the capital of Albania that features a national hero monument and surrounding historic buildings. The statue of Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeu, the most famous Albanian national hero of all time, is the main attraction of this square.
Beautiful big square! Lovely!
Clean, like everything else in Tirana!
I wonder how this will look like during the summer with the heat and everything hot! I'd like to see the fountains and have the opportunity to feel it again during another season!
Cheers!

It is a quite large square and several touristic attractions can be seen around it. Unfortunately the mosque and the clock tower became indistinct due to the building rising just behind them. I think this is a general problem in developing countries. Free wifi is available in the square which is wuite helpful for tourists.

Central large open square with the famous slanderbeg statue as well as the natural history museum, opera and the I love tirana. Because the square is so large it never seemed crowded eventough many people, both tourist and locals, crossing it every day. It's an good starting point to and from eitber busses to airport, the mountains or other parts of the city; to the parks and shopping streets; or to the suburbs.
A central point like this really gives something extra to a city and there's a lot of history there. Esthetically maybe not the most beautiful square, however I loved the stones that were used and the square resembles the complex albanian history making it an important place and starting point of your journey in Tirana.

What a square.. a huge space with such an eclectic mix of architecture and history surrounding it. From the mosque to the opera, the old and the new it really is worth walking around and sitting a while to absorb the atmosphere. Plenty of seating around the edges including the cafes outside the opera house.

This was the third time that I have visited here Albania, Tirana and Skanderbeg Square, but most likely on new year, I haven't seen such thing, especially that fireworks 🎇 Really amazing, mesmerizing, unbelievable. Couldn't even sleep that night, there were many activities and events during that week. But of course most important is Balkan atmosphere.. I wasn't expecting that much but really was cool. Even in summer and winter, only disadvantage is you need to do stock especially when you are visiting as tourist and will stay in hostel or in a flat. 😅
I highly recommend you to visit any time you want, although there are some restricted things to do in Tirana but certainly you will have great time, take every opportunity. Foods as well and many amazing cafés & restaurants. Try traditional cuisine as well :)

The castle itself is beautiful, standing there as an immortal testament to the times gone by. It is, however, out and about Kruja itself where you get the feel for the place - from the stunning sights to the bazaar just a short walk from the castle. Go there and bask in the beauty that is Albania!
Oh, and the restaurant at the foot of the castle, unexpectedly, is really, really good. The food was surprisingly great.

Incredibly well preserved, great history and great views. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a tourist trap on the way up. If you can make it past the people trying to corral you for parking and the souvenir shops in the old town, it's worth the short walk up! Don't miss the old fort that's free and behind the main castle.

This is also called Skanderberg castle. There is a museum over here. If you are interested in history this is the place for you. Also the view from here is very beautiful, you will find a lot of street shops here comparatively more costly than what you find in the city. The castle is recent (don't expect a very old castle) but well renovated. The interior of the castle is simple and quite spartan. Overall, a visit to the castle is worth it also for the city and the bazaar close by.

Loved it! I went to Kruje with my friends and we had so mutch fun watching all of that stuff. The restaurants were near us and the old baazar too. Entering the museum was a whole different thing, it was crazy and awesome. Old pictures, old flags and other old things that represent Albania in the past. The only problem in the museum was that you were not allowed to take photos but we didn't really care because we were magnified. Awesome I totally recomend it!

I love castles. This one is only a short walk from town, through the awesome bazaar.
The castle has been rebuilt into a museum, it didn’t work that well for me. Not like the castles of old but still worthwhile visiting for the spectacular views of the mountains and countryside.
I love the way many buildings in the castle grounds are still used.
Even though it doesn’t say, make sure you explore the grounds, that’s where the real treasure is.

We have been on a castle visiting spree in Europe. Before this one my favorite was Prajama castle in Slovenia. I must say though this castle was absolutely stunning. The fee to get in is quite inexpensive about 500 Lek or 5 Euro. It's one of the most well kept castles I've seen out here. The journey is treacherous though. I rented a car and drove and it was an adventure. Definitely an adventure worth the destination though.

Really beautiful original and traditional place of mountains, the castle, and of the bazaar. Museum quite disappointing, a place with so much rich history and traditions but so little information and display. It's a bit of steep and rocky walking, definitely not for high heels. Cars can drive up to the top of the castle where there is a dormitory and restaurant a limited place . Otherwise, it is an all lovely and enjoyable trip.

Not worth it if you like castles, as I do. There's only an old tower in quite a bad state. And then a very ugly new one with the museum, that I didn't visit. The city itself is even uglier and there is construction everywhere, which is good for the locals, but not for visitors. Construction trucks use most of the already narrow road.
F PE — Google review
The place is free to visit, in renovation and with an awesome view towards the city. Right before the entry there are lot of coffees and a bazaar ("charshiya") with all kinds of items. Bring cash though, they wouldn't serve me coffee because I wanted to pay by card. More than anything the view and mountains behind the castle are more impressive than the castle itself. It's a really small one. A mosque is being built next to the turkish baths. It'll probably be better in a few years. Traffic is horrible. As far as I understand a sat/sun visit may take x5 time because of inability to leave.

This is pretty good - organized and thorough. It will take a couple of hours to really get the most out of it, and if you're as uninformed about Skanderbeg as I was then you'll find a lot of pleasure in learning about this whole fluid period of central European history. I found it really useful to have Google Translate on permanent call for the Albanian and Latin.

The best way to know everything about the Albanian national hero.
The building itself has an interesting story as it was built by the communist leader's daughter in the eighties and the way it looks shows it.
There are few original pieces as most Albanian art is in foreign museums but the reproductions are good enough to explain the history.

Durrës Amphitheatre is a 2nd-century CE Roman amphitheater built by Emperor Trajan, boasting a capacity of 20,000 seats. Located in the heart of Durres, Albania, this historical site offers visitors an authentic glimpse into the ancient past. While exploring the city, travelers can immerse themselves in local culture and reminisce with Albanians about their cherished memories.
The Roman Amphitheater of Durrës was built under emperor Trajan in 2nd century and was destroyed twice by earthquakes in the 6th and 10th centuries. It is still preserved very well, considering everything. Its capacity was estimated from 15000 to 18000 spectators. It was discovered in 1966 and it is a place you must see while visiting the city.
Daniel Haman — Google review
The ruins of the Roman amphitheater are in the middle of the center of Durrës and would be hard to miss if you're looking for whatever little remains of the ancient part of the city. You might be tempted not pay the admission price because most of the ruins are visible from the streets that surround it. But if you're a lover of archaeology and you want to get a closer look at the location of gladiator fights in a Roman province, a stroll inside is essential. You might have to do a little bit of careful climbing, but it's part of the adventure. Well worth the detour.
Georges Younes — Google review
What a great spot to see and feel history, the admission price of 400 leks for two of us is very reasonable. There is no guided tour here, you just walk around by yourself and it's perfect!!! You walk out on the field in the middle as well.
There's also a really cool mosaic in one the rooms.

Nice day out with family. Plenty to see if you like archaeological sites and ruins, it is a long walk around with some uneven ground where it is difficult to walk. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes for climbing. Lots of shaded areas yo stop and rest
The coffee shop is very overpriced but comes in handy for cold refreshments after the big walk. We went on Saturday and there was no parking available it is better to catch a bus if you can. Lots of people around but the place is huge so it doesn't feel over crowded. Expect to pay an entrance fee 1000 LK per adult and 500 for a child over 12

This is our second time coming here in five years. There is a 2000 year old story written and lived in these walls. It definitely needs a lot of work to preserve it and make it more interesting, because this amphitheater is a treasure that needs to be known by everyone. We still enjoyed it. My 9 year young daughter was very excited to visit this gem and she loved it.

One of the oldest Amphitheaters in Europe. Visitors can climb old seats, stand in the middle of the theater (and perform if you want). It's not really big, in 10 -15 minutes you can cover inside and outside. Cost at the time of the visit was about US $3 per person. Still, ancient history you can touch and make your imagination wonder is priceless.

Perfect photo shoots can be taken there, so I did 😍. They call it (Albanian Thailand) and yes, who’ve been before to Phuket, will relate ♥️. Highly recommended 💙

It is a beautiful place ❤️ U can definitely relax on the boat, unfortunately, we got to the “beach” where there was no possibility of swimming anywhere and the water was really cold.

- Do not try to take the tunnel by car, unless you need/want to take the Komani Ferry. The tunnel is not wide enough to be a 2 way road + the amount of parking space at the end of the tunnel is very minimal (+-20 spots). Just park somewhere before the tunnel and go through the tunnel by foot.
- The price right now is about 2000 lek per person for a group boat tour, starting at the Komani Ferry pickup point. Watch out for some dodgy salesmen who will try to charge you more (2500-3000 lek) for the exact same boat tour
- At the furthest point of the boat tour you will get some spare time (2-3 hours) to explore the area until they start the return. If you don’t like the music/crowdyness in the first part, definitely keep walking further on the stone beaches until you see some less crowded spots. Plenty of space for everyone!

The lake is beautiful itself, but why don't the Albanian people care about it? there are several houses by the lake that throw out huge amounts of rubbish. You are swimming on a beautiful lake and next to a shampoo, soap bottles etc.. Protect your natural goods! It was hard to take a picture without a rubbish.

Amazing views, but you have to raise your head because there is more floating trash that i have ever seen in europe. Those who benefit from tours should respect nature, but seems that nobody cares. We were picking bottles from water when heading back to port but captain tried to avoid getting close to trash so..

Spectacular nature. The ferry ride was exhausting during peak season and no AC but the wonders of Drini river and the mountains are from another world.

I thought I am in Ko Phi Phi in Thailand. The boat terminal is hard to reach. Takes about 1-1,5 hour from the main road. The road is in really bad condition, but its really worth it. At the terminal You can take a boat to Shala river. Takes about 1 hour. There You have 3-4 hours of free time and can go back. This place is still not discovered. We meet only Albanians. Nice to see before mass tourism will discover this place.

It’s a great place, great landscape with incredible mountains, rocks and rivers. But there is a real big garbage problem. Otherwise it would be easily 5 stars. But nobody seems to care about the garbage except for the tour guide we had. We hope somebody will tackle the problem soon which seemed to work elsewhere in Albania as well.
Long Beach is a vast expanse of shoreline, dotted with numerous dining options and schools for kitesurfing. The beach's sand is colored brown, with some volcanic grains intermingled. The sea gradually slopes away from the shore, stretching hundreds of meters outwards, providing a safe environment for children to swim. This beach is famous for its size and beauty and considered the best in Montenegro by many visitors.
Sandy, wide and spacy. Sand in dusty and dark.

A beautiful sand beach, the water is clean. Probably one of the best places in Montenegro. The beach is not the best for city people though, cause there isn't music playing around and there are 1-2 caffes. Amazing beach though!

Very beautiful beach.
Expect it to be windy, not so calm - this is why I love it even more as it can be very fun!
I recommend you get one of the all inclusive packages with one of the hotels/resorts as the prices can be quite high if you’re staying for a longer time.

This review is for the area near Dormicium. Nature and the beach are great. What sucks are the access roads (which suck everywhere in Montenegro except the only highway) and prices.

Hallo. I was today at the long beach for a walk and to swim and take a look for the kite surfing school. What I found was a shock. A beach full of trash and an accumulation of plastic garbage. I found pieces of sofa, shoes, a syringe from a hospital, a gasoline can, tons of plastic garbage. For 13 km. It was disgusting!!!!!

The Rozafa Fortress, located in a hilltop archaeological park in one of the oldest cities Shkoder, is an impressive sight with magnificent views over the city and Lake Shkodra. The castle was originally founded by the Illyrians and later rebuilt by the Venetians and Turks. Its name originates from a legend about a woman who was walled into the ramparts as an offering to ensure its stability.
One of the many castles we visited in Albania. This one was large but it was not a living city. There was a restaurant on site, a museum and the ruins. In scale it was large and has gone though several reiterations through the many centuries of its existence. The views from the top are spectacular. This was a wonderful excursion for the afternoon.

It’s a nice place to visit, as you will have a view of the whole area and lakes, entrance is 3 euro, which isn’t much. Unfortunately there isn’t much to see from the castle as only the surrounding walls are remaining.

Time spent is around 45 minutes maximum.

This castle lies on top of a small mountain and grants spectacular views. Entry fee is reasonable and it's very easy to reach. I just missed a guide who could tell more about the history, or some pictures of how it used to be. Now it's just some impressive old rocks you wander about while having nice views

An awesome castle which allows access nearly all areas. Great to climb the walls and get as close as I'd dare. You're in control of your own health and safety!
Very hot at height of summer.
Parking is not good. Head up to the top if you dare. Turning & reversing on narrow cobbles or rocks may be needed. I'd recommend parking before you go over the little bridge, then walk up.
Well worth a visit though. The views are absolutely stunning!

Well worth a visit. The views are stunning, especially on a sunny day. You can picnic on the ground. The castle is huge.
Just watch out for holes on the ground as some of them are not covered.
There are limited spaces to park before the entrance. Entrance fee is 400 Lek per person. You can download the PQ code at the entrance for a short introduction of the castle.

There was a very beautiful view there.
It's worth going to simply breathe in the delicious air.
I went on Saturday but there weren't many people.
It is faster to drive to the ticket office.
There are few parking space.
The ticket was 400 lek per person.
It's a difficult road to walk, so it's best to wear it in an easy-to-move style.
The male staff at the entrance will welcome you in a friendly manner.

This castle is a beautiful monument where you can appreciate unique panorama views from the city, the lake and the river. There are barely restricted areas so you feel free to discover the castle by yourself. It would help if there were more signs describing the history tho. If you come during the day don't forget to bring water, comfortable shoes and maybe some snacks (always take your trash with you) and cash to pay the entrance. Highly recommended to come here and spend some time

Amazing view. Wonderful story. The road there is a bit tiring but beautiful and cobbled. The people are fantastic. At the entrance to the neighborhood there is a shop where you can stop for the toilet. Its owner took us by car to the castle. The ticket costs $4 / person. Young people with a student card pay only $1.2 (although sometimes they don't pay at all 😂). The view of the castle is wonderful during sunset, there is also a coffee bar inside.

Really large castle perched on a large hill overlooking Shkodër! They close at 21:00hrs but they let me in at 20:15 just after sunset. There are about 5 or so signs describing each courtyard and some of the buildings, but essentially, it's a "choose your own adventure" castle. Lots of people climbing around, some walls are quite small so people were perched on them.
There is a cafe there and a museum for an extra fee but it was closed when I got there.
Some parking down the bottom and then about a ten minute steep walk up slippery cobblestones to the castle entrance after the ticket booth.

Stunning view and enormous building. We amazed. There is a parking lot at the top. It was 4 euros per person. There are 3 main floors, which makes 3 gardens in fact. Worth to take a look for half an hour / an hour.

On the other hand, the castle shows marvelous views of the city from all angles!

Only ruins but a beautiful view. The ticket costs 400 lek for adults. Those aged 0-12 enter for free. There's a museum inside ( you have to pay another ticket!). There's also a bar. If you need the toilet into the bar you have to pay another ticket.. you can eat and buy drinks (no prices exposed) but if you ask to use the toilet you have to pay again.... Parking is very small but it's in front of the entrance and it's free.

I recently revisited Rozafa Castle after many years, and it was a refreshing experience. Growing up in Albania, whenever I visited the castle as a child, I was fascinated by the history and the stunning views. Now, as an adult with my own kids, I was excited to return and show them a snippet of the culture and their ancestors. The castle is one of the most preserved in Albania and offers a glimpse into the history of the region. The view from the castle is breathtaking, and it is definitely worth the climb to the top. There is a coffee shop in the castle where you can relax and enjoy the view. The castle also has a small museum inside that is definitely worth a visit. The museum offers a glimpse into the history of the castle and the region. The castle is conveniently located near other attractions in Shkoder, such as the Marubi Permanent Photo Exhibition and the Shkoder Historical Museum. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to Rozafa Castle if you are in the area, especially if you want to learn more about the culture and history of Albania and show your own kids a piece of their heritage.

A beautiful experience. Ehat the Castle offered was its once Grandeur that stood out from the ruins. The fantastic view from its balconies, and for those who know its history, the Tears of Rozafa, which are still kept in the tunnels of the castle, was very impressive. The museum was very pleasant as you got to know some carefully preserved archaeological facts and findings, which few people know about. Truly a special experience.

100% worth a visit when in Shkodër. Amazing views, especially to see sunset. The entry fee is 400 LEK, which you must pay in cash. We arrive at 16:20 and the sign said that it closes at 16:00, however we were allowed in with no problem, and also people were let in later than us. Well preserved and bigger than we expected.

After visiting every fort we could over the past 14 years... this is by far my favorite.
For 1 there is still a lot to see here that has not fallen down and is in great shape.
Also they allow you to basically go anywhere within reason, unlike most forts that have a designated trails, or this door is locked or that room is out of bounds.
There is a TON to see here and you could easily spend a couple hours walking around.
There are also underground areas you can your through so be sure to go slow and check out all the hidden spots.

Shkodër, also known as Shkodra or Skadar, is a municipality and city located in the northwest region of Albania. It is home to vibrant cafes, bars, bakeries and eateries that offer an authentic glimpse into Albanian culture. The city serves as a transit stop for travelers heading to Tirana and the Albanian Alps. Visitors can explore ancient attractions such as the Rozafa Fortress which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding areas.
The staff at Old Town Rooms is impressive, and the hotel boasts an excellent seaside location in the historic district. It is highly recommended for a memorable stay. Their restaurant offers delicious seafood dinners and tasty omelettes and coffee for breakfast. Currently, they are renovating all of their rooms, with the completed ones already looking fantastic. Many of the accommodations feature balconies. They have plans to finish renovating all rooms by next year. Overall, Old Town Rooms provides good lodging with friendly hospitality.
Amazing staff! Perfect location looking over the sea in the old town! This is the location to stay in. They have a really nice restaurant where you can have fish for dinner and a great omelette and coffee for breakfast.

We booked a total of 11 nights and after 2 nights, fortunately, we managed to say goodbye to this beautiful place, as some people describe. Instead of writing, I'm sending a few photos as a warning. Not to mention it's not all bad, the views are amazing. I reported the matter via booking where I booked the place because despite the omnipresent dirt, no one bothered to clean the wonderful shared kitchen for two days (it's a miracle with a washing machine), the TV didn't work, there were ants in the room. this green bottle is the set of cosmetics we had left after arriving. there was supposed to be a welcome drink, but maybe it's good that there wasn't, because I would have run away from there drunk. the room was not cleaned, we spent over 10€ on chemicals to clean the bathroom, there was a lot of black curly hair everywhere. despite this we were asked to pay 100% for 2 nights and 30% to cancel the remaining 9 days. Fortunately, we moved to Albania and the holiday was saved. After we complained, they wanted to give us rooms of a higher standard, but together with the whole family we decided to leave after 2 days.

Such a nice visit of the old town of Stari Bar, in the southeast of Montenegro, has seen its fair share of troubles. Over the centuries it was taken over by the Venetians, the Serbians, the Hungarians and the Ottoman Empire.
But in 1979 after beeing destroyed again by a major earthquake and the community was abandoned.
Today it lies in ruins.

One of Montenegro's gems and must place to see if you are visiting Bar or nearby area. Old Bar's walls and inside fort are beautiful and while most of the houses and objects inside were ruined by siege, quake and time, you can notice efforts to restore them to previous state. I did not expect much and I'm still amazed how big the old Bar was and it's position vices you great panoramic view of surrounding hills, cliffs and Bar's coast. After a visit, you should check charming stone pawed street with bunch of nice restaurants and souvenir shops and starts near the entrance and follows the wall.

For €3 a person there is nothing not to like here. Loads of nooks and crannies to explore! It’s slowly being restored and we saw this happening when we visited. The kids found it interesting and we took some nice pictures of the hills behind from the top.

Compared to other ruins in the area, these are not very well preserved or explained along the way. Beautiful views and a nice walk through the hill side, but nothing particularly special. A good value at 2€ entrance fee, but nothing to go out of your way for.

The old fortress in Stari Bar is definitely worth a visit! It is a relevant cultural journey and one can easily spend an hour or two just exploring the vast grounds. The entrance is 3 € per person and there is also a map available for purchase as well as an app which we both however did not purchase. It was nonetheless a cool visit with some picturesque scenes as well as some learnings about local culture and history.
Parking is an issue in Stari Bar and thus I recommend the official and gated parking lot at the foot of the fortress, from where you can walk through the revitalized village to the top of the hill to enter the fortress.
Unfortunately there are many sites still being worked on and some sections of the fortress feel a bit neglected. Also some info graphics and text in English would be helpful to visitors. There is this still some room to improve the overall experience. However still a great place to visit!

We spent a very interesting afternoon exploring the ruins of Old Bar. The recommended route is well signed, but the pathways are uneven. Good walking shoes need to be worn for safety. An amazing unexpected experience - in short, the fortress is huge and it is real journey through history.
Basically, you are navigating narrow paths along different buildings and you never know what to expect next - old Venetian customs house, an aqueduct, Turkish baths or a tall narrow church shaped like a gate. This all is coupled with great views on the surrounding mountains.
The Millenium Bridge, a renowned cable-stayed bridge stretching across the Morača River, was constructed in 2005 and is 173 meters long. Located in the heart of Podgorica, this modern and splendid infrastructure serves both vehicles and pedestrians. For an optimal view of the bridge, one can visit the adjacent pedestrian bridge or take a stroll through the surrounding parks. The nocturnal ambiance is especially captivating as colorful lights illuminate the structure while spotlessly clean waters flow underneath it.
One of the attractions of the Podgorica city, a place where Millennium run participants start and finish their races. The Bridge has its functions during the other days. Construction is interesting in terms of how it is made and how it looks. Nice to see it if travel in Podgorica.

Tom Wilson — Google review
The bridge was designed by Marjan Pipenbaher from the Slovenian company Ponting Bridges and Mladen Ulićević, a professor at Faculty of Civil Engineering in Podgorica. It was built by the Slovenian company Primorje, and opened on 13 July 2005, Montenegro's National Day. It quickly became one of the city's most prominent landmarks.
The bridge is 173 metres long, and the pylon soars 57 m above the roadbed. Twelve cables support the roadway deck, while twenty-four more are attached to the counterweights, creating an imposing image.
The construction of the bridge began in 2005, and the building cost was approximately 7 million euros. The roadway carries two lanes of traffic and a pedestrian walkway in each direction. The bridge connects the Boulevard of Ivan Crnojević in the city centre and July 13 street in the new part of city, thus relieving the other congested bridges connecting the city center with the densely populated districts over the Morača river.
The Orthodox Cathedral of Christ's Resurrection is a modern and striking church featuring intricate stonework and an opulent interior adorned with gilded frescoes. Notably, there is a controversial fresco depicting Marx, Engels, and Tito burning in hell. The cathedral also showcases numerous depictions of Bulgarian and Serbian orthodox saints on its walls and roof. Located at the heart of the city, it is a must-visit for anyone interested in magnificent architecture and traditional religious artistry.
Outstanding church and typically having an abundance of frescoes. This one though contains the controversial Marx, Engels and Tito burning in hell fresco. It has to be seen. I'm told that some people here are all for this depiction while others are very much against it. You decide for yourself.

The amazing interior of this church is breathtaking. The main chandelier is beautiful and reminds me of many churches in Istanbul. Iconography is dominant and well preserved. I wonder if it really helps pilgrims to meet with resurrect Jesus when they come to worship, or is it an obstacle to true worship, forcing their thoughts and prayers towards patron saints instead to the living Son of God .

From Wikipedia: Construction of the church of around 14,000 square feet began in 1993 to a design by Predrag Ristić. Consecration occurred on October 7, 2013, on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan on freedom of religion, and it was attended by the heads of the Eastern Orthodox Churches, Serbian Patriarch Irinej, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Jerusalem Patriarch Theophilus III and Russian Patriarch Cyril, together with Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije and other Metropolitanate clerics.
On 1 November 2020, the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral for the thirty years (1990–2020), Amfilohije was, at his own request, buried in the crypt of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, in a resting place prepared for his lifespan.

This is my favorite cathedral in the world which is built during modern times. Thanks Montenegro for showing world that beatiful architecture is not dead. It is also different from traditional architectures. Definitely recommended. No ticket is required for entrance.

It is located in the western part of the city, and as far as I understand, the new city has been built here. I had read that there was a debate among the locals about its suitability as an Orthodox church, but it was a pleasant visit for tourism purposes. We happened to witness a wedding ceremony when we visited, and observing the local people and their traditions was a delightful experience. I recommend visiting it when you are in the city.

Stunning modern church. Lots of gold leaf and rather impressive. Very photogenic. Lots of parking although it needs more work to finish the outside. Not ticketed.

3 Bulevar Džordža Vašingtona, Podgorica 81000, Montenegro
The most beautiful public beach (not for long as I heard 😞) in Montenegro!
Only 15 mins ride from Budva.
It’s better to take a bus since parking costs 3 euros per hour and most of the time it’s packed.
At the beach it self there is nothing so bring your own food and water. There is shop but 15 mins up hill.
You can walk through the park and reach the outstanding view over Saint Stephan island.
Please do take trash after you since this is one of the cleanest beaches. Let’s keep it this way. ☺️

This park is a beautiful place. You can enjoy the walk in peace. Not that crowded around noon. You can see that they take care of the park. Nice place to enjoy the walk and have some peace. And lastly, nice view of the Sveti Stefan.

The Dancing Girl Statue in Budva is a bronze sculpture located between the old town and Mogren Beach. It's a symbol of the city, inspired by a local legend about a girl who waited for her sailor lover to return but tragically died on the same rocks where her statue now stands. Some believe it depicts a drowned girl, while others see it as an ordinary statue. The elegant pose of the topless girl has become iconic, with many visitors attempting to imitate it for photos.
Many will attempt to duplicate the pose, it's the statue right before you get to Mogren's Beach.

There are a lot of stories behind the meaning of the ballerina statue in Budva, no one knows the true reason. For me, honestly, it looks like a bad copy of the famous Little Mermaid in Copenhagen. The ballerina is one of the most popular monuments in Budva.

You must learn the story of the statue.
Ali Ulvi G?L?EN — Google review
Sadly, the path to get to her was closed for danger of landslides, so you could only glimpse the status from far away and couldn’t walk the lovely path to the beach alongside it. Anticlimactic let down :/

San Giovanni Fortress is a medieval castle perched atop a picturesque hillside overlooking the Bay of Kotor. The imposing structure offers sweeping views of the bay, with Mount Saint John (Sveti Ivan), which separates Kotor from Tivat, in view to the east. The 1355-step hike up Mount Saint John is a rite of passage for those who are interested in experiencing incredible views of Kotor Bay.
Amazing view. Completely worth the walk uphill. I speed walked and made it to the top in 35 minutes. For a more casual pace plan on an hour. The view is completely worth the effort.
There are a few vendors selling water on the way up in case you don't bring your own. You should also plan on sturdy shows as the stairs can be quite uneven in spots.
Brad Kosar — Google review
Amazing views! We walked up the unofficial route through the "secret way" and then back down the official route. You get a different experience and it's free :-)
You can continue up to the top of the mountain if you are not too tired and this fortress is only halfway up.
paul tottle — Google review
The views are stunning, I recommend taking the hike. It takes some time and is almost all stairs so take a bottle of water with you (it took us approximately 25 minutes with breaks to get to the top). The only thing we didn't like was the price, 8 euro per person seemed a little overpiced.
Coco Namure — Google review
Beautiful views. I recommend going up the hike from the ladder of kotor it's a little bit further away but there's no fee to to up and it's less populated.
Tanay Ved — Google review
Very strenuous climb but fairly safe, well marked. Mostly rock steps, crumbled stone. Stone wall at the edge. Literally 1200-1500 steps, who knows. It's a lot. There's nothing too risky, though. Views are incredible, so take your time and take lots of photos.
Guy is selling water at the castle on top and midway. Silly as who would not bring water on a 4hr hike?
Expect 2hrs up and 1 down. Expect to be tired. Bring lunch and water. No benches, no tables, no place to sit. Perhaps bring a blanket. No WC, either. Trash cans overflowing, litter everywhere, so "leave nothing behind but footprints." Please.
Controversy about price? March 2023, they were fixing the turnstiles, so it was free. But, IMHO, 8E is certainly too much. Especially since nobody maintains the trail or the castle. Trash everywhere. Fixing the turnstiles? Perhaps they could instead send somebody up to remove garbage. Where does the 8E go? A real shame.
Steven Webb — Google review
Beautiful historical structure combined with a nice tracking opportunity. It would take you from 40 to 60 minutes to reach the fortress and viceversa. It's a tough enough uphill, but with the growing satisfaction of the beautiful scenery. Negative sides are the overall bad shape of the structure, not well maintained... and the fact that both going up and coming down, you can safely use just the part of the road with the stairs infact the other partel is too much slippery. This could slow you down if there are too many people.
Paolo Bellu — Google review
The place that is must visit if you are in Kotor. There is magnificent view of Kotor bay from the castle which you can enjoy for hours. There are more than thousand ladders which you must climb but it is not so difficult if you physically active in you daily life. But I strongly recommend you to start you journey at least at 8 am. In that situation you will climd mostly at shadow, which will make you journey more easy and enjoyable
Behruz Khalatai — Google review
YOU SHOULD DEFİNİTELY VISIT!
🎟️ The ticket is 8 Euro, when you climb all the stairs and see the view you'll see it's worth it.
🍩 I highly suggest you to bring some snacks, food etc to eat at the top point.
🏞️ İt's not so easy to climb to the top, you need to put some effort. İt's better if you carry 1-2 liter water with you.
🐈 And there are cats on the way you can feed them bring some food for them too. Enjoy 😊

The ruins of the old fortress of St. John, entrance 8€. There is a little more than a kilometer to go (1355 stairs), but it is worth it for the amazing view that spreads over the Bay of Kotor.
Marta Sz — Google review
A very rewarding walk. The views on the bay are spectacular, and the ruins themselves are also quite interesting. Don't forget to bring something to drink (though your can buy cold drinks from the locals on the trail, but price can be a little bit high). Entry fee is 8 euros. Round trip took us about 2 hrs.
Agnieszka Jaśkowiak — Google review
Nice view up there. I recommend to go up in the morning at 5 am, if you do not want to pay the entrance fee, that you are down right before the open;)

St John Fortress, Rd to the Fort of St. Ivan, Špiljari, Montenegro
Located in the heart of Kotor's old town, Hostel Old Town Kotor offers dorms and private rooms with free Wi-Fi. The hostel is a sympathetic renovation of an old palace, and it features a bar and pool table. There are also guided tours available for guests interested in learning more about the history of Kotor.
We had an excellent stay. It’s a near perfect hostel, very social yet quiet enough to sleep well at night, and at very reasonable rates. The group outings/trips are definitely worth it, they were a highlight of my travels. It’s not a hostel for cooking meals, but everything else is rock solid. The staff even went way above and beyond for me to do me a favor when I had a bit of an emergency.

The location is perfect. Right in the centre of a beautiful old town. Bustling during the day and quiet in the evenings. The staff are so friendly. Nina was particularly communicative and helpful. The dorm was quiet, clean and so was the bathroom. There's a pool but I was told it's quite cold so I didn't swim.

Great hostel! They organise fun and really affordable activities every day and they do amazing tours across the whole country. It is a great atmosphere, and also the best location.
Sebastiaan van Til — Google review
The rooms and hostel itself were great, affordable and easy to find. However I would like to make people (esp female solo travellers) aware that the current receptionist knows no such thing as boundaries, very touchy and even when I assured I wasn't interested i still felt harassed and uncomfortable. As far as I'm aware he is the head volunteer, but if management are reading I would consider looking out for the safety of your guests as this man clearly targets young girls while travelling.

It is a very successful place in terms of hygiene, location and sociality. The staff is very attentive. It is also a nice advantage that the hostel is located in the Old Town. Prices are very good compared to the service. I highly recommend it to anyone considering staying in Kotor. 💕

This place is amazing. When you arrive they welcome you in a super pleasant way. They explain to you what are the comforts of the place. The spaces are super comfortable and are always in good condition. You have a work area and to share with other guests. in another area are the rooms for better rest and noise isolation. You have a kitchen to save and be able to cook whatever you want! The hostel is located in one of the most representative areas of Kotor. If you like to walk and explore I recommend the path to the viewpoint that is near the hostel!

Fabulous immaculate and comfortable hostel. I love the location right in the Old Town as it feels so special to walk outside onto cobbled streets and feel like a local. Spacious room, comfy bed, power plug at the bed and views to the harbour from the bedroom window and towels and blankets arranged like a hotel.. As a digital nomad, wifi connection is important to me and this hostel delivered. And also had a table in my 8 bed room as well as the comfy common area. A short walk to bus station and supermarket too. Loved this hostel, one of the best.

A social hostel in the heart of old town. The sunset barbecue (9 euros) was great and there is a common room in reception where people hang out. The only issue I had was the amount of noise from the street outside the dorm, as well as the clock chiming and the church bells ringing through the morning. I would also recommend the hostel takes cards and not cash only. Good fun and would book again.

I’ve stayed at Old Town Hostel Kotor twice now and have had the time of my life both times! It’s so easy to make friends in this hostel because of the activities they provide for everyone every day! I went on both the sunset bbq and the boat party and loved both. The location is unbeatable in the middle of old town - close to absolutely everything you’d want to be close to! I enjoyed swimming in the pool at the hostel and swimming in the ocean which isn’t a very far walk away. The staff are all amazing people and make you feel so welcomed. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone! It’s an experience in and of itself. I’ll be back!

Situated very conveniently at just a 5 minute walk from the Kotor Bus station, this hostel is really nice. Apart from the location being in the heart of Old Town, this place offers a really cool vibe with the reception being the best place for all to chill. Along with all the usual facilities as we have seen across hostels throughout UK and Europe, this hostel has a very nice host in Milan. He is very helpful and the reception desk has all the links and information required by foreign travellers.

Had a great stay here while visiting Kotor. I visited in late November and the room had comfortable beds and curtains for privacy. The hostel added an extra blanket to each bunk and we could also control the heat so the room was nice and cozy and warm overnight. Super clean bathroom (really hot shower!) and clean communal kitchen as well. Ali and Kiara are very friendly and helpful, and the lady who came in middle of the day to clean (I forgot to ask her name, oops) went above and beyond to come find me to return me a small bag I had forgotten in the room when I left. Truly amazing service! The location is also perfect.

The location is amazing, Kotor has one of the most interesting old towns I've seen. The bathrooms were clean, the beds were comfortable and with curtains. The hired staff and management were very friendly and accommodating. The Aussie volunteers of November 2023 do NOT like Americans; One of them went on and on about it in the lobby. (apparently because of our accent, it was quite uncomfortable) It's not really management's fault though, and it is a great hostel overall.

During my recent stay in the heart of the old town, I found this hostel to be a good experience. The location couldn't have been better, right in the middle of the old town's charm. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall positive vibe.
The well-equipped kitchen was a plus, making it convenient for those who prefer to cook their own meals. The rooms were clean and had curtains for some privacy. The common room was comfy and provided a great place to relax.
However, I have to mention a few downsides. It was a bit on the expensive side for an out-of-season hostel, which might not suit budget travelers. The temperature of the showers was a bit unpredictable, ranging from ice-cold to scorching hot, which was a bit of a nuisance. Also, keep in mind that they only accept cash for payment.

Perfect hostel. Even though I actually booked a 4 dorm room the gave me the 8 dorm room. The location is absolutely perfect! In the old town and not far from the bus station and the sea. The staff is friendly and the kitchen is really good equipped.

The fortifications of Kotor, known as the Зидине Старог града у Котору, were constructed in the 9th century and expanded until the 19th century. A protective loop was completed by the 14th century and can be climbed via a trail consisting of 1350 steps for a total ascent of 1200m to an altitude of 260m above sea level.
Great vantage point to see the bay, as well as the main square inside the Old Town. Free to walk up, not steep. Will deadens, so prepare to tread the same steps twice.

The old town is one of the more distinctive and memorable places I visited, it is characterized by its medieval and wonderful character. It is one of those places for those interested in the history of the region or simple just looking for a cozy old town style to enjoy a meal or drinks in one of the many restaurants. There are distinctive cafes, luxurious restaurants, shops selling traditional antiques, traditional clothes and souvenir shops, as can be expected.

If you can go early (7am) or earlier you’ll have the place relatively to yourself.

This is a good size old town. Lots of streets to walk through. There are sections that are very busy but there are quiet areas too. There is a public restroom (WC) but they do charge to use it. There’s limited paid parking that is very close but there are larger paid parking lots available that aren’t too far of a walk. If you park on the opposite side from the old city there is an underground walkway at the corner across from the old town you take to get to the other side.

Best time to visit - May until mid-June and September. Otherwise it is way too crowded. The most beautiful city in Montenegro. Incredible landscapes of the Bay of Kotor and the amazing Old Town! I recommend coming to this city for an excursion, if possible on your own, as here you will not be able to see everything in 2 hours! This place is worth spending the whole day! There are paid parking lots where you can park your car, the cost per 1 hour is from 1€ to 2€. To see the Bay of Kotor - rent a boat 40€-45€ for 1 hour. There are a lot of cafes on the territory of the Old Town, if you plan to have lunch - the average check for 2 people is 30€-40€.
