Monuments & Statues
The Museums of Ascoli Satriano offer a captivating collection of archaeological artifacts. The management is overseen by knowledgeable and approachable individuals who provide additional insights in a clear manner. Unfortunately, the renowned winged griffins were temporarily on display in Rome, but the museum promises an enticing experience worth returning for.

This museum hosts some exquisite pieces, including the Griffins of Ascoli Satriano. Stolen in the late 1970s and finally returned to Italy in 2007, the griffins on their own are well worthy of a detour.

(Translated by Google) A true museum excellence even if little known. Despite being a small museum, it is very rich in archaeological finds, all coming from the area and all dating back to the 4th century. B.C. and the late Middle Ages. But the feature that makes this little jewel unique is the presence of Greek marble finds which, in recent history, have had a particular fate: stolen from the area, sold to rich art dealers and then ended up in the USA. Only after long diplomatic negotiations, lasting thirty years, did they return to their place of origin. Among these, the griffins stand out, a unique work of art in the world and symbol of the city of Ascoli Satriano. They represent the story of a small victory of David against Goliath and I am sure that any visitor will be fascinated by the story, so expertly told by those who take care of, manages and keeps the museum open, amidst the thousand difficulties of creating culture in the south of the south of the saints .

The Sanctuary of Saint Mary our Lady of Grace is a Catholic church that was consecrated in 1959. It boasts three naves and altars adorned with mosaics, relics, and statues. The sanctuary surrounds the small church where Saint Padre Pio lived, making it a unique place of faith and spirituality for the Italian people. The church is beautifully designed and serves as a center for religious activities.
I've been there several times and every time when I was there, I had an undescribable feeling. I could imagine of every scene when Padre Pio was alive.

A Holy place where you can find the Tomb of St. Padre Pio. There are so many pilgrims that visiting the Sanctuary.

The new church is incredibly beautiful. Marvelous mosaics and a beatiful statue of San Pio.
But much more important than this: this church is full of grace. The energetic density is very high and can be sensed as soon as you enter the building. After two minutes inside I started to cry for no reason. This is Grace that makes the unconscious sorrow conscious. On a spiritual path this is called purification. During mass the energy level gets even higher.
So, walk inside, admire the mosaics and the statue, but know: the most valuable here is invisible! 🙏🙏
Filip Van Wanzeele — Google review
Kind staff, for the most part. It was a great spiritual experience. Having said that there are next to no signs in English. Makes me as a "westerner"/american unwelcome as if Padre Pio didnt want me there.

A very solemn place to pray and experience the very place where St Padre Pio stayed, gave mass and confession. Such a good place to be to spend time with the Lord.

It is a blessing to visit the simple and magnificent Santa Maria della Grazie, the sanctuary where Padre Pio of Pietralcina resided and served untiringly until his death.
The sanctuary's location, nestled amid rolling hills and picturesque landscapes, sets the tone for a contemplative and serene experience and evokes a sense of peace and tranquility.
The most moving moment of a visit is the opportunity to venerate Padre Pio's tomb within the sanctuary. The tomb, adorned with flowers and candles, is a focal point of reverence and devotion for pilgrims worldwide. Santa Maria della Grazie is not only a sanctuary for worship but also a place of healing. The adjacent Padre Pio Pilgrimage Church houses the renowned San Pio Hospital, a testament to the saint's dedication to caring for the sick and suffering. The hospital's modern facilities and compassionate staff continue his legacy, providing much-needed medical assistance and hope.
The piazza and the peaceful gardens, inviting prayer chapels, and quiet nooks are perfect for reflection and meditation. The atmosphere at Santa Maria della Grazie fosters contemplation and invites visitors to embrace a moment of introspection and spiritual renewal. No visit to this sanctuary would be complete without experiencing the profound practice of participating in Mass or attending one of the daily prayer services. It is an incredibly enriching and spiritually uplifting journey.

An interesting surprise! The main church is contemporary and includes the old church where Padre Pio was confessing women. At the lower level there’s his resting place. You can also visit Padre Pio’s cell and part of the convent. During the visit you can really perceive his personality, influence and the good actions he performed during his life.
I absolutely recommend to visit this place at least ones in a lifetime. Ideally perfect to combine with Monte Sant’Angelo.

The new underground crypt was absolutely breath taking. The gentle slope led us into this golden circular crypt with an Altar and the great Saint Pio now laid. The crypt is so different from the original Santuario in every way, it is worth making the journey. The Stations of the Cross requires uphill climb of many steps, lovely & peaceful for prayers.

Every year in April the apparition of the Madonna on the olive tree is celebrated with parades of allegorical floats. in this period many pilgrims travel on foot from their cities, covering several tens of kilometers in the night. A beautiful afternoon walking around the smaller lake paths. Picturesque, full of beautiful flora and fauna, and hot but lovely weather.
Upon parking, we were met with a gorgeous pair of white horses ready to give carriage rides. We didn't go on a ride, but I imagine it being a lovely way to view the park.
Wonderful food at the restaurant Mecca (right on the water!). The waitress was a sweetheart. The food so tasty.
The white church was stunning, as the platform where the priest would stand is abutting the mountain stone. Magnificent. Although I cannot seem to find it here on G-maps, it is to see!
My only complaint was that some of the pathways were destroyed by rain, and never fixed. Could be recent, might not be? No idea, but one path (below the white church), was so bad it deterred us from continuing down to a spot near the water. (That is why a star was removed.)
There is an older stone church ruins, too. (further into the pathways, not right off the water)... ancient. It is gated but makes for fantastic photos. There is also a water fountain just near it for drinking and refreshing. Wow!
One of the shops we visited had a lot of cute things to sell, but they were obviously dated and dusty. Yes, part of that could be because wind and dust are part of nature, but I tend to think objects have sat there a while. I still purchased some things.
Worth going back to revisit, but also to explore the bigger lake!
I didn't notice standalone bathrooms.
Bathrooms are found in restaurants where a small purchase of water, gum, candy, potato chips would be welcome, but not necessarily required. Ask within.
The walking pathways around the lakes are wheelchair accessible.
There are stairs to get into the white church by the smaller lake, so not easily wheelchair accessible. The pathways down the incline by the white church are not wheelchair accessible, either.
As some have said, there is a lack of maintenance in certain respects, and there are many abandoned restaurants, but they do NOT take away from the experience, in my opinion.

A great Place to visit. Fare away from celebrities and known spots, it gives You the Spirit of ancient times
Just wanted to share a cantina in Basilicata for anyone heading to Matera! 90 mins north there is the Aglianico del Vulture DOC region and the Cantina del Notaio (cantina of the notary). You walk through an underground maze of about half a dozen caves from the '400-'600 built by franciscan friars to make divine wine while treating the sick. The barrels are still stored there today! We also had a chance to taste their two most popular wines: la firma and sigillo (clever names lol). Sigillo reminds me of the amarone-very rich, good with a fiorentina steak and you can taste the tannins-It takes about 4 years to bottle. La Firma was my personal favorite-2 years to bottle so a younger wine.

Now back in the UK we have a great wine shop and owner that we've known for years. He also has family in the region, Basilicata. And he supplies us this wine. So we thought, let's go straight to the shop. We had a tour and some wine tasting, just the snacks, unfortunately not meats and cheese (next time). So off we went into the sellers and where the tour began. Fantastic story and explanation of what makes this wine special. We tasted two wines and loved them both. Should you gobif near, yes. The tour we took was €10 each, to be honest that's cheap and well worth the value. 👍👍🍷🍷

If you visit only one winery in Basilicata, it should be this one. Notaio is a stellar producer, with noteworthy wines. But their tasting room and aging cellar definitely highlight the tasting experience, and shouldn't be missed. I won't ruin the surprise -just go, and enjoy the experience!

(Translated by Google) Beautiful experience lived in the cellar, with assistance and engaging explanations from our guardian angel, Alessandro. The first part of the visit to the caves which are located under the structure and which have been inhabited and used in various historical periods is interesting. In the rooms, whose walls exude the history of real life, bottles that are over 60 years old and barrels used for aging wine are on display. The second part is dedicated to tastings of four different wines, presented in a precise order that takes into account the logic of increasing alcohol content and structure. The accompaniment of plates of local cured meats and cheeses and excellent ricotta is necessary and appreciated. The third part is the necessary purchase of the excellent wines, with a 10% discount if made after the visit. Compliments !

Complimenti !
Monte Sant'Angelo castle is a must-see attraction in the Gargano area, offering a sublime view of the surroundings. The medieval center with its charming white-washed houses is perfect for exploring on foot. The castle itself may not be grand, but it holds an interesting history and provides stunning panoramic views. Inside, visitors can explore various rooms and enjoy ambient music while learning about its past.
This is a very beautiful castle to walk around and learn about its interesting history. There are also great views from many different spots around it! I recommend checking out all the random doors and going through all the little tunnels.

Very Nice Castle at the top of the city. The view is sublime. I went during the summer and it was kinda hot but it is worth visiting it if you are around the Gargano area.
Do not expect a castle like Carcassonne in France or something fancy and huge.

Santuario di San Michele Arcangelo is a Catholic sanctuary dedicated to the archangel Michael, situated on a hilltop. The complex of buildings around it has expanded over time and now includes various religious edifices that overlay its original shrine. The entrance vestibule at street level is double-arched and stands alongside an octagonal bell tower built by Carlo of Naples in 1282.
Really beautiful and unique place to visit. You can feel good energy!
Perfectly kept with a lot of descriptions to prepare your visit and create your time for meditating and praying.
If you enter the grotto you’ll also receive a plenary and perpetual indulgence.
The only small minus is the closing time for lunch break. I’ve visited many sanctuaries and monasteries and did a lot of pilgrimages and I’ve never seen something like that in a sacred place. Especially, as this is a destination is for pilgrims!!
Be sure to organize your trip accordingly and do not arrive during the break to ensure to have the time to visit the entire complex (museums also close for lunch break!!!)

One of the few non consecrated places of worship and holy eucharist, as it is believed that the archangel Michael consecrated the church himself. It contains the cave of the apparitions of st Michael ND forms a straight line with all the other shrines dedicated to st Michael.

It is a sight to see. It is situated inside an underground cave, it is holy and magnificent, and especially for Christians a sight to behold, an important place of worship
This place was a destination for countless Christian pilgrimages from all over. In fact it was visited by St Francis of assisi, Padre Pio and many other devout Christians and famous theologians
I sure recommend it, for it it is widely known and accepted that people's prayers are answered here graces are granted and miracles happen in those who visit, and it is also widely accepted that those who come will be protected by the most powerful of archangels Michael
I loved it, I will return!!!

(Translated by Google) Beautiful Cathedral in Apulian Romanesque style, which has been a historical bastion of the city for almost a thousand years. Perhaps, as in many other churches in the South, the Templars really passed through. However, it is certainly less likely that the daughter of Vlad III, known as the Impaler, is buried in his crypt. What is certain is that he presents many enigmas among his sculptures and his bas-reliefs, which are not easy to find elsewhere. I was very struck, for example, by the face, carved in the crypt, of a man with a curved beard (Dracula himself?) and by the statues positioned under one of the columns at the entrance, where you can see scenes of possible bites on the necks of women. So why not let your imagination fly?

(Translated by Google) Splendid building which preserves, despite subsequent restorations and renovations, the Apulian Romanesque forms. The facade is characterized by the reliefs and bas-relief of the portal. The cathedral was built between the 11th and 12th centuries on a pre-existing early Christian church, which was in turn built on a Roman temple
The church has a Latin cross plan with a transept and tambour at the intersection of the arms. The interior presents Romanesque simplicity with pillars dividing the three naves and a raised presbytery.
The crypt is valuable, frescoed in the first quarter of the 16th century by the master Todisco with saints and symbols of the Evangelists. Worthy of note is the choir with ambulatory and radial chapels. The exterior also reveals fragments of Roman reliefs reused as inserts.

Castello di Barletta, located in the city of Barletta in Apulia, Italy, is a restored Norman castle with a rich history dating back to the 11th century. Originally built as a defensive fortress against enemy attacks and surrounded by water from the sea, it has undergone various architectural changes due to different dynasties in power until the 18th century.
The Castle is the best point of view in the city. I loved have a coffee in front of it so I could admire it and enjoy his beauty and walk around my dog.

The castle of Barletta, located in the Apulian city of the same name, is the architectural result of various stratifications due to the succession of different dynasties in power, which took place from the 11th century to the 18th century. Once a fortress for defensive purposes, surrounded by the sea that occupied the moat all around the castle and isolated it from potential enemy attacks, it is a strategic point in city life as well as an important urban cornerstone. Castel del Monte is a unique 13th-century castle situated atop a hill, renowned for its impressive octagonal architecture. Guided tours and a gift shop are available for visitors to explore the castle's skeleton-like interior, which comprises numerous identical rooms lacking fixtures, adornments or furniture. The overall experience could be enhanced by replicating some of the items that might have been present during the castle's heyday and improving restoration efforts in certain areas.
As lean and simple that it is amazing. Must see if you are in the area. The octagonal base and the eight stone/marble towers put this building in the group of most iconic and recognized buildings in Italy. Enjoy a quick visit supported by one of the guides giving tours every 15-20 min or with an audio guide, that you can collect at the entrance. Park the car in the big parking place down the hill. It takes 10 min walk on a nice step way or 2 min with the minibus leaving from the parking.
Stefano P — Google review
The architecture of the castle is very impressive from the outside. Interviews from The Hill are equally impressive. Going on the torch itself a lot of the rooms are very similar to one another and it's simply just the skeleton of the castle There's no fixtures adornments furniture anything in the castle at all So after you see a rumor too it looks kind of the same.
This would be a much better experience if they were to try to replicate some of the items that may have been found in the castle at the time and do a better job at restoring some of the areas.
It's not a bad visit, but it's definitely one that I wouldn't go out of my way to go see.

The castle is beautiful on the outside. The views from the hill are breathtaking.
The inside is nothing special - the walls are completely bare, there's literally nothing inside, every single room there looks the same, not everything is available for the public - it isn't worth paying the 7 euro for a ticket to enter.
Iga Szczepa?ska — Google review
It's a bit of a hike (1.3 km) from the parking lot (5€, April 2023) but more than worth it. The castle itself is mightily impressive with its octagonal shape and 8 towers. We didn't do a guided tour.
And I definitely missed information about the castle and the history. There is some of it inside in French, English and German, but I still had questions.
From the outside it is an amazing castle.
From the inside the castle is quite boring. It is always the same and they don't really give illustrations how it looked inside during its prime time.
They play an artsy video without any information. I guess it showed stuff they found in and around the castle, but I'm not sure about it.
In my opinion, it is too expensive. You also have to pay for the parking and if you want to use the bus you also need to pay a ticket for the ride. You can walk to the castle, though.
Sofi Grüneisen — Google review
I can’t give any other review to this place than one star. It’s such a disapointmemt. Firstly, the castle opens to the public at 9am, but there ane NO toilets available before 10am for no understandable reason. Secondly, visual aids at the castle are extremely lazy, the lack of information about the place that truely seems exceptional because of its purpose and unsual location is just shockingly depreciating. The interiors are almost completely empty with very few information written. Thirdly, because of these reasons it’s way overpriced, once you add the ticket, the parking fee. Views from the inside are not worth buying the ticket. A beautiful tourist trap.
Anna Firląg — Google review
A completely well-proportioned castle. Entry is free unless you go inside.
S M — Google review
A beautiful castle. Nothing much inside and you can’t go on the top of roof like the movie scene. The ticket for€ 10 per person a bit expensive! Plus the parking €5 for a car.
Chen Claire — Google review
It was disappointing!
The view from around the castle was astounding (two stars for it) but the castle itself?
Just walls, no information (only one small board at the entrance), no objects they maybe found there, nothing!
You pay 10€ to see blank walls!
For us even the second floor was closed and we could not have the view from the roof, awful!
Some more informations; try to drive the street to the top and ignore the sign which says it’s not allowed to do that. If you are lucky, you can catch a parking place at the restaurant which also costs 5€, than you do not have to walk uphill and use the parking place downhill which also costs 5€.
Be aware that the streets which lead to the castle are a mess, sometimes you will find nearly craters directly in the middle of the street, drive carefully.
On our way there were two cars at the side of the streets which were broken down due to the bad roads.
For us it was not worth the real long drive, but decide on your own!
Jens Czaja — Google review
Even the drive to the place was so enchanting! It's a springtime, and the wild flower fields, the groves of blooming orchards, and trulli houses scattered in the valleys were a beautiful scenery leading to this unique castle. It is a special place. Have a comfy shoes as there is partly scenic hiking 20 minutes up to the castle. You can get a shuttle from parking, but only 2-way, though. We were not allowed to board to go only one-way back to the parking lot.
Tanya Larin — Google review
Great castle to walk around in, you need to watch for tour groups as they try and block the room they are talking in, and it's a room by room flow. They will block a room for several mins so try and get between groups so you can explore on your own. We really enjoyed how modern this castle was and the ability to see several rooms.
Deanna Shaw — Google review
I love Castel del Monte, it is an unique castle. I think it is the only castle to have an octagonal shape with eight octagonal towers. There is also an octagonal court present in the center of the castle.
If you want to visit the castle make sure you come on time (check opening hours), there is parking and a bus service provided. You need to pay for the parking and the bus. It is also possible to walk up but it is quite steep and the terrain is not ideal. It is not possible to park at the top.

The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim, also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta or Santo Nicola Pellegrino, is a Romanesque Catholic cathedral in Trani, Italy. Made from local pink-white stone and completed mostly by the 1200s, it is an example of Apulian Romanesque architecture.
Beautiful Basilica on a large square by the sea with great view to nearby castle. We parked easily at the nearby port where fresh fish were being sold straight off the back of the boats. Under restoration when we were there, the exterior nearly complete and stunning to look at with onlt a small rear section still behind scaffolding. Only the crypt of interior open, but fun to visit. In the crypt are the relics of St. Nicholas the wanderer, not themore famous St Nick. Basilica from 1100, built over a church from 400AD.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, sometimes referred to as Santo Nicola Pellegrino, is the main place of Catholic worship in the city of Trani, in Puglia, the mother church of the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie and, since 1960, a minor basilica. [ 1]
It is an example of Apulian Romanesque architecture. Its construction is linked to the events of San Nicola Pellegrino, dating back to the era of Norman domination.

About attraction we learned by accident at the information center, where we got the address. The place was near, a small street in the city center, in the evening. Only closed doors. He spoke to a man who spoke only Italian. We have done is only a small circle - about 20-30min - and in Italian. We do not speak Italian ... But it was perfect. The special atmosphere of this place, stunning caves and cisterns - and people lived here before. It is a pity that we did not have time - I'd seen it all over again. I really recommend.

Really great tour, our guide Stefania was so knowledgeable and friendly that made us very welcomed. Tour cost 10 EUR per person and lasted around 1,5 hour. Although the main part of the tour is underground, between underground sections we had to come upstairs and the guide would tell us stories about the buildings and areas we passed, so at times it felt like a tour of the city as well, more than we expected.

The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption, built in the 11th and 12th centuries, is a stunning example of Southern Italian architecture. Its crypt contains a hidden treasure - an early Christian church with exquisite mosaics that were excavated in the 80s/90s. The cathedral's stone carvings and large griffin tile add to its historical value.
Beautiful church with a hidden treasure. Underneath the church, entered via the crypt is a early Christian church which was excavated in the 80s/90s and has wonderful mosaics. There are plenty of very good information boards on the church and excavation throughout (Italian, English, fresh and German) which also provide images of what the church would have looked like. The entrance fee of €3 each was well worth it.

Palombaro Lungo is a subterranean cistern that was carved from rock beneath a bustling plaza during the 19th century. Visitors can take guided tours of this historical site, which offers insight into the past. This attraction is worth visiting to learn about its history, and there are many restaurants in the area. However, exploration requires a lot of walking, so visitors should be prepared for that.
Found this place by chance, on the second day of my vacation I decided to do things differently. I just went around the town without a definite plan of what to see. I just let my curiosity guide me, and so far I've found various tourist attractions without putting in half the effort needed to plan on which places to visit. So far so good, it feels so much better when you stumble upon something than when you put all your effort in searching for it.

This an impressive underground water cistern that's exactly what it says on the tin. The 10-12 minute walk inside is worth the 3€ (April 2023) asking price. There's no need for a guided tour unless you happen to be particularly interested in the topic.

Its interesting to see, but it isn't a must. If you have time, go. You have to pay to enter, but there isn't much to do or see there. You just go down the stairs look around a little...Turn around and go back in the same way.

Definitely worth a visit - entry fee €3.
Located just under the main square in Matera - Piazza Vittorio Veneto.
This massive cistern once provided the water for the city in the summer.
Could hold 5m litres of water and is 14m deep.
You can see the holes in the roof where residents lowered buckets down from the square to access the water.
In 1991 when a decision was to open it to the public, scuba divers went in first as it was still full with water.
No advance booking possible - just turn up.

Palombari are huge public cisterns that collected spring water for drinking. Apart from them, people dug their own smaller cisterns for private use for themselves and the live stock which lived with them.
Palombaro Lungo was the biggest public cistern active from 16c and enlarged over the centuries. It had a capacity of 5 million liters with a depth of 16 and length of 50 met. The shape is irregular which is a result of digging and joining together several small cisterns around. The cistern walls were sealed with a water proof plaster.
People collected water with with aluminum buckets through a well which was on the square, which doesn't exist any more. It was destroyed in 1927 when a national aqueduct was built. However, you can see the mouth of well from the cistern interior.
The Palombaro cistern was rediscovered in 1991 during public works on the square. It's located on the main square of Matera. Entry fee is low, 3 Euros, and will consume around 15 min of your time

We visited Palombaro Lungo in Matera, paying a few euros per person. Upon entering, we descended numerous steps with open backs, starting from a considerable height. For those uncomfortable with such steps or heights, beware. However, the descent offered little in terms of sightseeing. Like many other attractions in Matera, it felt more like a money-making venture than an engaging experience. Exploring the city's architecture outside proved far more enjoyable. Overall, our visit felt like a brief, unexciting detour, lasting no more than five minutes.
The historical Sassi di Matera is a popular tourist destination with impressive cave networks and extensive archaeological findings from the Paleolithic era. The city has been inhabited for centuries, with recent renovations adding new accommodations options to the mix. Cave tours are a must for visitors to experience the wonders of this unique place.
Wonderful and charming place. We visited as part of the tour that helped to learn about the area and skip queue when entering old house dwellings and one of the stone churches. Place got really busy around lunchtime, so perhaps better to plan to visit early in the morning. Toilet facilities are not free, so make sure to have some euro coins.

Beautiful place, unique in the world. It looks going back in time. The architecture and the atmosphere of the place makes everything magic. You can find a lot of bed and breakfast where staying, but be ready to walk with the luggages. The town itself is small but nice. A guided tour is suggested to reach the best angles and to know where the movie sets have been placed. It could be also very romantic, if you come with the right person of course. You need the car or an organized tour to reach the place, but once you are here it is not needed. Highly recommended

The history of Matera is not just beautiful, but also tragic. In just half an hour a film, projected on the walls of different rooms of this historici Sassi house, takes you through all of it. My husband and I visited Matera as a day trip and didn’t have much time to learn about the history of the town and the people who lived there. We saw mention of the exhibit in our Lonely Planet guide and were so glad that we made the visit. This is one of several (probably the most popular) Sassi houses converted into a small museum to present the history and way of living in Matera.
Entry fee is around 5 Euros and imo totally worth it. The museum consists of 4 parts.
First is the original cave dwelling house with household items, kitchen, furniture, place for live stock,...etc. Explanations are available in different languages on your mobile (ask the kind staff for wifi in order to have it).
After that you move to next door cave where you can watch a short movie about Matera history.
Third cave is an old Church and the forth one explains the water collection system.

Parco Regionale della Murgia Materana is a rugged and scenic park that showcases churches carved out of caves and cliffs. One of the churches features 8th-century frescoes, adding to the historical charm of the area. The park's transition from the old town into its stunning natural scenery is an unforgettable experience, complete with breathtaking views and a suspension bridge. Visitors are surrounded by rich history and cultural significance, with plenty of dining options to choose from.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Parco Regionale della Murgia Materana and I must say, the experience was truly breathtaking. The landscape was absolutely beautiful, and the views of Matera were simply wonderful.
The park is a true gem in the heart of Italy, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys hiking or exploring the great outdoors. The trails offer a range of difficulty levels, so there's something for everyone.
One of the highlights of my visit was the opportunity to see the ancient rupestrian churches and settlements that are scattered throughout the park. These structures are truly remarkable and offer a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the region.
Overall, I would definitely recommend a visit to Parco Regionale della Murgia Materana to anyone who is looking for a unique and unforgettable experience in Italy. The beauty of the landscape and the rich history of the area make it a truly special place that is not to be missed.

Visit a place where time forgot! Matera is a truly stunning town. You could easily spend two or three days here just walking the streets and National Park. The transition from the old town into the park is amazing and the views are simply breathtaking. Traversing the suspension bridge into the park leaves you feeling like your walking next to dinosaurs.
Climbing the steep walk to the opposite side is well worth it but take plenty of water and some really good walking shoes/boots. Trainers aren’t really going to do the job.
You are surrounded in history and magical culture with loads of beautiful places to eat and drink.

Beautiful park with amazing views of the city of Matera. Caves around every corner with so much to explore and find. Very cool to see the ancient dwellings and get a sense of life there. A word of warning, the caves themselves are filthy on the inside due to ignorant tourists using them as bathrooms and leaving tissues everywhere! If you go, be prepared to use nature as your bathroom but do NOT leave tissues after yourself! Have some respect for others who wish to enjoy the park!

Great views, history and scenery shame people have used every cave as a toilet. Main problem is tissues left behind so caves need a clean. Please leave no trace.

We drove but the visitor site was closed. We parked anyway then walked. Accessible parking area closer to viewing area. Amazing to think people lived in the small caves. Beautiful view of historic Matera from the top. You can also hike there from Matera but looks grueling. Down then up, then same when going back. People were huffing and puffing.

A visit of this park is a must for any turist who wants more from such an impressive site.
The views and the small houses and churches carved in stone are equal to the ones from the old part of the town.

The exciting surroundings of Matera with harsh nature and old rock caves. Bring water and a flash light.
Lido San Francesco is a popular seaside destination with a wide beach, offering sun loungers and parasols for rent. The beach has a fee for entry, which includes two sun beds and an umbrella. It is less crowded compared to other beaches in the area. The stretch of golden sand and clear blue water makes it perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Additionally, there are amenities such as a bar and seafood restaurant available on-site.
Neat and clean beach. free admission. Renting a bed costs about 7 euros. Local residents and tourists come to the place. It's safe and there is a team here that goes around and makes sure that everything is fine, including those who want to rent a bed. The entrance to the water is a little dirty with algae, but after that the beach is very open and the water is pleasant.

Clear water, nice wide beach. Weather at the end of May is perfect, water temp is acceptable. Beach is quiet during weekdays until 2-3pm when locals and school kids arrive at the beach. It's a really nice atmosphere, locals bring sliced fruit and chill. Beach needs to be cleaner.

15E for two sunbeds and a umbrella. Excellent variety of foods and drinks at the bar/restaurant area. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Able to leave bigger bags in storage. Close to bus stop to get back into town.

The sand is soft and the beach is mostly clean. The staff was friendly and spoke basic English. We paid 20 euros for two beds and an umbrella and were able to secure beds in the second row at 13 o'clock on a Monday in August. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The surroundings are not as beautiful as those of other beaches I've visited, but the beach was very easy to reach by scooter from Bari.

The location and infrastructure are good but the employees don't seem to have much patience, I saw some employee discussions during the time I was there.

A private access beach with lots of sunloungers . The water was not as clean as further south of Bari port... Today was cloudy and well into September and a weekday so it was very very very quiet. Life guard present and staffvery pleasant. Gin & tonic 7 euro .. .. nice sandwich 🥪...5 to 7 euro. The sunloungers for 2 people without umbrella only 14 euro..we got front line as so empty. No beach towels provide. It took us 1 hour to walk there and 10 mins back by bus to Old city.

Nice clean beach with plenty of sun loungers. The sea was pretty choppy on the day I was there but there were plenty of life guards who were very vigilant. €25 for two sun loungers and a parasol. The only annoying thing was when you pay to enter you’re given a number for where you have to sit, but even though it wasn’t busy, you were put right next to the people who had arrived before. I understand this system for when it’s busy but would be nice to have more flexibility when it’s quieter.

Great place, with sandy beach.
1 umbrella and 2 very comfortable sunbed for 25€ for the day.
The prices are decent (eg gin tonic 7€, buffala pizza 9€)
The staff is also very kind.
There are no lockers, but it wasn’t a problem, the entrance is secured. The lady at the entrance mentioned that we can leave our belognings at the reception for safekeeping.

Very nice place. If you want to chill and rest choose the very last sunbeds - it is not croudy even in August.Excellent restaurant, amazing food and wines. Well equipped Beach with showers, bars, medical center and lifeguards

This beach is terrible, overpriced. The water is very dirty. But the worst thing is the food. There are 2 restaurants, we visited the cheaper one but it's hard to express how bad was that. I show the pictures and everybody will understand. This hamburger and salad costs 8(!!!) euro (each of them). How can somebody even call this thing a hamburger???? Most of the workers don't speak English but I don't really understand why. If you work in a restaurant, it's not a big expectation to know some easy expressions. The woman didn't understand the word "water".
So if you have other opportunities, choose another beach, I honestly don't recommend that.

We were here in the middle of April, and the place was very crowded. There is a bar, but there was a huge queue, and the food and drinks were overpriced. I also wish people would clean up after themselves

Convenient, had everything we needed to relax and wasn’t too crowded on a Monday. We had some time before our flight and had no problem getting here to and from the airport with a taxi. Pizza was also decent!

Staff and owners all went well out of their way to make us feel welcome. Great Barese style (thin) pizza, lovely dining room and great home made deserts. I look forward to returning, particularly in the summer when the lido is open again too.
