I knew nothing about Wolfhound tours when I first contacted the owner, Dave, over 6 months ago. I only knew I wanted to go to Ireland and it would be my first foray into travel in over two years. I initially reached out to my travel agent who kept referring me to large travel companies, the opposite of what I was looking for. I found Wolfhound by a Google search. Then found the over 200 five star reviews on trip advisor. It looked promising. I wanted a personalized adventure. Off the grid. Fewer people. I wanted to experience culture and mix with locals, so I took a leap of faith and I’m so glad I did. I got all of that and so much more with Wolfhound’s Northern Ireland tour. It was my first trip to Ireland and Dave went out of his way to make sure that I walked away with what I had been looking forward to. He’s a gifted storyteller, and a walking encyclopedia of knowledge about everything Ireland. Everyone on the tour had traveled with him previously-that’s how much people enjoy his tours. From outdoor activities, to cultural sites, he covered it all. This was my first tour with Dave but it won’t be my last. He’s Ireland’s best kept travel secret, but something tells me Wolfhound won’t be much of a secret for long.

We just returned from a tour of the southwest of Ireland with a group of 11, and it was amazing. Two members of the group had toured with Wolfhound previously and had recommended it. We hiked a good deal and got to see incredible array of landscapes, forests, ruins and wildlife. Dave is terrific at weaving in fascinating history and stories of the places we visited, and his choices of hotels, pubs and restaurants were superb. He offered up lots of options of things to do, allowing the group to choose what we wanted to do that day. Dave brought us to sites that were not the typical tourist attractions—there is no way we would have seen all that we did if we were on our own. He also connected us to some additional excursions, which included horseback riding and kayaking. He was very accommodating to our group, which ranged in age from 15 to 82, and kept it fun and lighthearted. We are seriously contemplating doing another tour of the north with Wolfhound in the next year or so. It was really an amazing trip, I can't recommend Wolfhound highly enough.

One of the single best trips I have EVER been on. If you have a desire to see Ireland and experience all she has to offer, this trip is informative and so much fun. Can't wait for my next opportunity!

Wolfhound is the best small group tour of Ireland. Our guide Dave made the trip rich in history, fables, music, and of course adventure. You'll go down the roads less traveled, hiking the beautiful countrysides and forests, searching for sea and native wildlife, and fill your day with activities for all interests. If you want to discover Ireland intimately go with Wolfhound Tours.

I've toured with Dave twice; 2015 on a southwest tour, and 2018 we went north. Both were fantastic! Dave is very knowledgeable about the history of the Emerald Isle, passionate about his homeland, loves nature, and spins a tall tale from time to time. But isn't it really all about the craic in Ireland? Highly recommend! Check out his TripAdvisor ratings and you'll see he is grand!

There are those among us that might say this is a tad overdue. But , there are also those that understand that a man must wait until he has the proper inspiration. I have this to say, If you find yourself in Ireland and you are not on the back off Davy O'Brien's great Irish wolfhound you've made a mistake. This man knows his stuff but also possesses a kindness that makes it seem like no big deal. His singing voice alone is worth the price of admission. By the end of the tour he was a part of the family. Ive been all over this planet and I am confident you will never find a better guide. If you love nature Dave is your guy. Ask him about birds and cetaceans! His knowledge is unmatched. Also, he knows where to find the best Guinness

Incredible family vacation seeing Ireland (Southwest tour) for the first time all due to Dave @ Wolfhound's dynamic planning and deep experience in Ireland heritage. This was the best way to see the beautiful sights away from tourist crowds. Awesome time!

Fantastic, magical week with Dave taking us around the SouthWestern portion of Ireland! Such a great mix of history, stories, Craic, folklore, wildlife, music, food, hikes! Dave is very accommodating and caring to each individual on his tour. It’s off the beaten path, which allows you to see true treasures & gems of Ireland! I cannot wait to return! All of our quaint hotels/Bed & Breakfasts were great! 🍀🍀 thank you SO much for everything!

Our Wolfhound Adventure Tour of Southwest Ireland was amazing! We saw more in the first day of our trip with Dave than we would have seen in an entire week on our own. He thought of every detail from lodging to the perfect playlist. We explored so many beautiful places, many off of the beaten path. We hiked, boated, biked, rode horses, danced, ate, drank, and laughed. Every person had a wonderful time, regardless of their activity level. Dave was able to accommodate my parents, as well as my very adventurous siblings, by providing a variety of options for us each day. I could not recommend this experience more, especially for a first trip to Ireland or those traveling with family.
Sarah Barry — Google review
Dave at Wolfhound Adventure Tours offers small bus tours in the SW of Ireland. After finishing this tour we realized how perfect it was. We saw out of the way places the big bus tours miss and pass by. We saw wildlife, I'm sure it was a Minke whale. We climbed, hiked, drank baby Guinness in the most amazing pubs with great group of people. Dave would customize the tour to fit everyone's requests or suggestions. Add in the songs, stories and views and you couldn't ask for a better tour.... except it was too short! He offers two other tours in Ireland, the Wild West and North, which is on everyones wish list!
Go raibh maith agat, Dave.

Magical! From the accommodations, activities and craic, the tour was fabulous. Dave skillfully brought together a diverse group, offering activity options for individual abilities. I particularly appreciated supporting local, small businesses and the music selections. I can't imagine a better way to see and experience the remote sites of Ireland.

Just completed a southwest Ireland tour with Dave. A wonderful mix of history, beauty, hiking, music and humor. Dave is flexible with plans and is great at reading his small tour group’s needs. A combination of well known and little known back-road sites makes his tours one of a kind. Seriously would give Wolfhound 10 ⭐️ if I could!! Highly recommend.

Dave O' Connor is the real deal when it comes to great Irish tour guides. We took our family of five over and saw more in a week than we could have in a month on our own. Great hiking, great stories, and a great way for our children to learn about Irish history and culture. This is a must tour!

Glenveagh National Park, located in Donegal County, is an extensive natural wonderland spanning over 16,000 hectares. The park boasts a rich biodiversity and features a range of untamed landscapes including moors, mountains, bogs and lakes, inhabited by herds of red deer. At the heart of the park lies Glenveagh Castle surrounded by manicured gardens and a rhododendron collection that blooms in May.
One of the largest and most beautiful parks in the world. If you ever visit Ireland, visit this absolutely beautiful place.
It's got nature. It's got an epically huge lake. It's got wildlife. It's got trees. It's got an actual Castle! Ireland at it's most glorious. 😍
The walk can be as long as you like but it's at least a 4km walk to the Castle. There are little shuttle buses to the Castle at certain points of the year.
A must see! Donegal is beautiful.
Kevin McKinless — Google review
We only had time for the castle, and that was closed so we just saw the grounds. Beautiful and worth the trip. Plan on at least a day to enjoy the whole park. 3 hours should be enough to enjoy the castle and grounds.
Walking/hiking available for all abilities.

Surreal and magnificient..just could cover the castle as we had a bus to catch back but wish can go back soon into d arms of this scenic place...so well maintained. Hats off to team here and people too

Love the different walls and the views in this park. Spectacular at any time of year. Cafe in the grounds where you can get a cup of tea or coffee and something to eat. Bus runs to and from the castle regularly. A beautiful place, but it has such a horrific history too.

Lovely gardens and walks, went to see the house, However the lower floor is the only area accessible to wheelchair users and some garden area also. Staff are very nice answer questions you need a ticket to access house and you are designated a time so come early. Enjoyed our soup and sandwiches in visitor centre Cafe a bit on expensive side the staff were very helpful and accommodating, polite and friendly.

Excellent way to spend an hour or three. The castle was worth the price of admission and the grounds were amazing. We took the bus to the castle and walked back. There are washrooms by the parking and at the castle. They rented bikes (electric too) and had plenty of trails. It was perfect!

Very beautiful place and extremely nice staff from the front desk to the bus drivers and the staff at the castle and walled gardens. Absolutely beautiful scenery words and pictures can't do it justice. We left the area a few hours ago and already want to go back.

What a magic place! You must understand, it's not enough to spend here 1 day. There are several walking tours and each of them is worth walking. So it's better to come here several times and by car, because the last bus is at 6:05 pm and it's not possible to see sunset here. Definitely come back, but in the morning to give myself more time there.

An interesting National park that hosts both lakes, greenery and a castle. Visitor centre has all the information but make sure to enter before 4pm or so to catch the shuttle bus to the castle. It’s a well kept park and the lake is really beautiful to go see.
Christeen Saparamadu — Google review
The park is fabulous.
The lake is tempting.
The castle worth a visit in light of his history and since is well maintained.
The area is property of Ireland.
The walk from the tourist office to the castle is about 45 minutes (very well spent!)
Come here!

Beautiful park! Give yourself plenty of time to visit because it's a decent hike and there is a lot of trails around the castle and gardens.
Cassie Asmondy — Google review
We visited this place in November 2023 and it was a nice day to visit as the weather was good. The national park is surrounded with lush green trees and there is a beautiful lake surrounding the castle. The castle has a rich history of people with great knowledge and their love for art and their culture.
We rented a bike / bicycle to ride the national park as walking would have taken a lot more time. The prices were hourly based but quite reasonable. They had a variety of bicycles in the shed from the normal one to gear one and also the mountain range cycles. They had the bicycles in all sizes like for children to the older ones. They also provide you with the helmet with the bicycle.
It was a nice day to ride a bicycle.
I would recommend renting a gear bicycle as there are many steep slopes where it would be difficult to pedal up the normal bicycle. I took a normal one as I was not so sure about me handling the gear cycle correctly as I am not a regular / expert rider. But to be honest the normal bicycle took my major time in climbing up the steep slope as I had to get down from the bicycle and take it all the way up the slope and then ride it till the next one.
Reaching the castle, they have separate stands/ bicycles parking stands to park your bicycle. There is a nice cafe near the entrance of the castle for refreshments with nice outdoor seating. The washrooms were clean and spotless. Honestly speaking I did not expect the washroom to be so clean as there are so many people coming there all the time but kudos to the helping staff for such great work.
We will visit soon again as due to the short time we couldn't see the whole surroundings.
Devangi Dave — Google review
This was our first time here in this part of the country 😁 the main castle in the park was closed, so will be coming back again soon.
We arrived on St Stephens day 2023 a public holiday 😁
Just did a short walking trail and tried to embrace the expanse of the land and being the only one on the trail.
I enjoyed the subtle design of the buildings near the entrance and parking , with the concealed rest rooms and the green roofs of the guard house and visitor centre

My husband and I wanted to add some rock climbing to our honeymoon trip in Ireland and I’m so glad I found Unique Ascent. Iain is very knowledgeable about climbing and made us feel safe the whole time. He made our half day adventure feel so short and was so informative about the area. He recommended places for us to check out while on our trip and had the best canine companion. I highly recommend Unique Ascent for your next adventure

Iain took us out climbing on sea cliffs, we both climb but never had done anything like this. An amazing new experience and brilliant fun the whole time. Iain was a great guide and made us feel confident and safe throughout the day. Would 100% recommend for anyone looking for a adventurous day out… thank you Iain

What an incredible day!!! I had been looking forward to this for months, and my experience far exceeded expectations. Iain's knowledge and passion shows in everything he does. He constantly challenged me, while always providing guiding support along the way, as well as a good laugh! Our spontaneous trek to a hidden cave was a perfect ending to a wonderful day! This was my first outdoor climbing experience, and I have been spoiled!

Easily & by far, my favorite day in Ireland. We lucked out with some superb weather and Iain is the best of the best to be out there with! Cruit Island is stunning and his knowledge of the routes in Ireland is surmountable. Rock was awesome to climb on and without even having to say anything, he tailored the experience to my abilities. We started on some fun, easy routes and ended with a couple that had me holding my breath. I can't wait to show my husband the photos. He'll be so jealous!!
PS: His pup is the cherry on top. A charming little fella!

What an experience! Iain is a gentleman who tailored our experience to suit our mixed group skills! We all felt challenged and had an exceptional day! Even in the rain! Having a dedicated super experienced guide is the best option to ensure you get the most out of your day and Iain is the best! We will be back again soon for another adventure! Stop reading and get your adventure booked! You will not regret it!

So happy we had an opportunity to explore sea stacks with Unique Ascent - the one and only Ian Miller! The best expert in sea stack & cliff climbing in the world who can take you safely to those beautiful rocks on a cool boat. Thank you so much Ian. It was truly a unique and amazing experience plus we had a lot of fun! Hope to explore more sea stacks and cliffs with you in the near future.

After hearing a TED talk from Iain I knew I had to go and see Donegal and do some kind of climbing with him.
I'm not the bravest outdoor climber but Iain had a plan - absolutely perfect for my level - and we "played" on Tor na Dumhcha and then at Cruit Island. I honestly can't recommend Iain highly enough - he has so much experience under his belt, loves what he does, is bags of fun to be with, and utterly patient - letting you find your way up the routes with hints when needed. The rock was absolutely solid and superb to climb.
Loved every second of it, and you would too! I'll be back.

I would definitely recommend Iain and planning to go again!
After years of thoughts about climbing I had to give it a try this year as I heard this name, Iain Miller too many times. Once finally reached him booked a wee climb in Donegal and was unreal.
I am the type of person that loves to have both feet steady on the ground and I was freaking out only hearing the word ‘CLIMB’. Meet Iain in the morning and went kayaking to a spectacular island Tor Uí Arragáin approx. 40 min away from the shore.
The scenery was stunning and the climb full of emotions but with Iain’s calm, patience and professionalism made it easier than looked. We explored a sea cave afterwards which took away some of the emotions and then went kayaking to the second island, Iompainn. The line on Arch Wall looked so challenging for myself but with Iain support was piece of cake!!!
Can’t wait for the next expedition/challenge!

Loved climbing the Crohy Head Sea Arch with Iain. I am a complete beginner to climbing and Iain made the whole experience very easy. It was a beautiful day out at the stack. If anyone is in County Donegal and looking for an adventure, I would definitely recommend climbing with Iain at Unique Ascent

Amazing experience climbing with and learning from Iain over the past 2 days. We climbing varied rock from easy to difficult, for us, as inexperienced outdoor climbers. I would climb with Iain anytime and heartily recommend his guiding service for anyone looking for a great time here in Donegal.

Very skilled and highly professional guide services by Iain Miller. We booked 2 days together and he took us to some of the most pristine and beautiful places that are off the beaten path. Thoroughly enjoyed our adventures. Highly recommend you check out his web page and videos to see if it's for you.
Always a beautiful kept venue.
Plenty to do around the grounds, including camping. Watersports and hire available on boats, bikes and trikes.
Dogs to be kept on leads.
Bring good walk wear for the winter mo ths as it can be naturally mucky in areas.

Beautiful spot and lovely walks. Every time we have been down though everything has been closed. This time is a Saturday afternoon end of march. Would have given higher rating if tea rooms, facilities etc were open to try.
glenn — Google review
I have been here quite a few times.
The washing facility is clean and well maintained.
The WiFi sucks so bad I wanted to whip my phone out the window.
Most of the pitches are will drained but some of them are water logged.
As usual with caravanning if the weather is good it is all good.
There is a decent bar and a pizza place on site which is nice.
The playground is clean and great for kids under the age of 12.
I will return.

I imagine this would be a very interesting place to visit.
We were there 1st week in October, and it was all closed up. We did get a nice walk in the grounds, though.

Nice to walk around and learn a few details about the history of the place like the flying boats.
As for the campsite, well catered for if you have children. The only thing I would say is there aren't enough toilets. In the block I used there were plenty of showers but only two toilets. Nice and clean though.
Some wonderful nature and wild life to see. Of course it's great for sailing and water activities.

Splendid place with lots to see and do. Boating of various sorts, walking trails by the Lough and in the forest, caravan site, countryside exhibition, WW2 museum. The last two very limited opening, likewise the tea room. Loads of car parking. Splendid public toilets in the courtyard too.

Fantastic place, walks through the Forrest - you can see dear if your lucky (just up by horse hill), red and grey squirrel's, rabbits. Lovely walks along Lough Erne, camp site, boat hire (only available June thru summer).
Tom Cadden — Google review
Lovely park for walks for family's and to bring the dogs, will have to go back in the summer when the shop and all is open to avail of all the facility's as I was there in February when it's a bit quieter.

Back again and although the weather this year was wet and cold, i just love this place for camping. June is quieter. Shower block is clean and tidy always, well anytime i have been. Great little cafe in the courtyard. Took our bikes this time, the trails are amazing. The birds wow!! i cant emphasise enough the important work they do here for nature. (If you see anyone with their dog off a lead, a very very small minority...remind them to care for their animal and others)
I totally recommend Castle Archdale and will go back again.
Mount Errigal, standing at an elevation of 752m, is the highest mountain peak in County Donegal and a notable landmark. It boasts a challenging hike to its summit which takes about 3 hours, but the panoramic views of distant mountains from the top make it worth the effort. This peak is renowned for its pinkish hue resulting from quartzite reflecting sunlight.
First part of the trail is VERY boggy and wet but still easy to find the way up to the peak. Lovely view when there are no clouds.
Lars JK — Google review
The new addition of the gravel path and stone steps in recent times has made this so much easier to traverse than in the past. Enjoyable hike to the top , mostly mist covered and i only seen fleeting views from the summit .... but they made it worthwhile.
Mark James Phillips — Google review
Great hike only takes a couple hours be prepared for the wind though its ferocious!! and boggy underfoot..

What a great experience. We started our climb early in the morning to catch sunrise at the top. Sadly, it was a very foggy day, but nevertheless, we had a great time and managed to take some brilliant photos along the way. The climb is reasonably challenging, although it was made much easier now that a path has been built leading right up to Mt. Errigal. I would highly recommend climbing Mt. Errigal.

Visited 18/03/2022. Very difficult hike! The first half of the ascent is through very wet, muddy terrain, and the second half is very steep on loose rock/stone. We had very strong winds on this day which made it even harder. Would only recommend to confident hikers. Limited parking that fills up early. There's a small inlet off the road (heading towards the lake) that you can use and walk about 10 mins up to the trailhead. Then when you get back you can grab a coffee from the little coffee truck "The Mini Bean" and enjoy the view of the lake below.

Stunning mountain! In Sept we had good weather conditions making hike easier also due to built up path up to half way. Quite steep in the middle so get good boots. Can get quite windy. Beautiful views all throughout

The weather wasn't sunny but I was very happy to go to the mountain. There are very nice paths and steps to the top. You need to be very careful as it is very steep in some part especailly when it is windy and drizzling. Will come back when weather is better so I can see the nice view.
Soonyon Fay — Google review
A great hike. The trail has been recently upgraded and easier to walk. Still need proper footwear and wind proof jackets. On the top are steep slopes both sides.

Actually hard enough in parts. But worth the climb. And meeting lovely people in the way up and down

Amazing hike 🤩🤩🤩It’s a great and easy path, there’s stairs all the way up. We went for a hike with a big group, with people over 50s and a 4 year old child, everyone made it up to the top in less than 2 hours with frequent steps for water and pictures. Luckily we gos a nice sunny day and it opened up a great view from the top 😻😻😻
Would recommend to start it early enough so it doesn’t get too hot on summer days. Also it gets busy at the top and you don’t get much space. If you want to get parking, on weekend days I would suggest to start climbing not later than 8 o’clock. Also, because of the heat, there’s some sort of flies, so don’t forget to apply protection against them if you’re planning to spend some time on the top.
As I mentioned before, it’s an easy hike, you don’t need special gear, you’re hiking boots should be alright.
Definitely would do it again 🥾🥾🥾

For a middle aged fat man it was quite a walk to the top with a million and a half uneven stairs and some rugged terrain near the top. Totally worth the climb.

Climbed it on a sunny day, which is rare around this neck of the wood, and the views are to die for. There is an excellent path from the carpark to the summit, steps on the steeper sections. The carpark is rather small but there is no issue with parking as the road has wide verges ideal for parking. All in all a great mountain to climb!
Brian Hunt — Google review
It is a good hike. The trek is easy to medium and goes nicely along. If the weather is good it is most fun. I was not able to complete it due to the weather. But seems funs might return to it someday. Enough parking is available with no other facilities.
Pranav Rathi — Google review
This is a stunning hike, new pathway leading to base of mountain takes the wet boot element out of it as you can now avoid the boggy bit. The steps in the rocks are amazing and a mastership in stonemasonry. This is a hike that will get you out of breath and sweaty but is suitable to most hikers if you take your time.
We challenged ourselves and were up and down in 1 hr 30mins but this involved running when possible. There is a lot of loose scree therefore many use poles. Really enjoyed it, lots of little areas on the way up to have a a picnic with exceptional views.

I'll never travel to Westport without this trip planner again
Small, tranquil lake featuring 2 high-end hotels, plus fishing, kayaking & waterside walks.

If you're going on the water, do be careful as there are a number if very shallow areas within the lough.

We took the Lough Eske Nature Loop walk, recommended by our local hotel. It's approx 5.5km long along quiet roads with views over the Lough from time to time.
One of the highlights was a large hand written sign covering a gate inviting international passers-by to take a seat and have a rest. The language's included were Icelandic, Ukrainian, Polish, French, Welsh and many more. Quite a random and quirky thing to find.

A beautiful lake but not really accessible. You can't park easily, sit to eat somewhere, or spend time there. That said the lake is nice, but Glencar Lake is maybe better without those drawbacks, although more crowded
Marble Arch Caves, located in Fermanagh within the Marble Arch Geopark, form the longest known cave system in Northern Ireland at around 11.5 kilometers in length. Visitors can enjoy guided tours on walkways and by boat through these UNESCO subterranean caves from March to September. The tour is available in English and pamphlets are provided in multiple languages including Spanish.
We had a great time at Marble Arch caves. Our guide Jordan was excellent. He said the boat tours should be returning soon. We enjoyed the short walk from the visitors centre too. Lovely cafe. A great day out and everyone was very friendly.

Please visit this!!
We did not book in advance but phoned to check if needed to. We did not spend much time in the cafe/information area or gift shop as we only had a 15 minute wait but the caves are stunning. I have not heard all these caving terms before and the explanations were all clear. Lots of walking but that's all good. Mind blowing to think it was discovered by those with basic tools!

Well worth a visit, something different that the kids really enjoyed - the tour guide had lots of little kid friendly bits that kept it interesting and fun for them. I think we got a bit of extra luck in being in quite a small group - think that's just luck of the draw re: demand for the tour slot that you book. The caves are also located on a nice looped scenic drive that's worth doing afterwards.

Our tour guide Niamh was very knowledgeable. The caves were lovely and cool 10 degrees. We took a boat trip which was probably the highlight of this for me as I am aware some people don’t get to experience it as it depends on the water levels.
I bought tickets online which I recommend.
There is a cafe and a souvenir shop as well as a vending machine selling fizzy drinks.
I recommend arriving early enough to enjoy a cup of coffee or even to stroll around before the tour starts.

Jordan was awesome with his patience and knowledge. He is an easygoing person who understands everyone no matter how hard they are. We enjoy a nice walk with him and his tons of sense of humor. Definitely I got his name Jordan and not Jeremy 😂🤣😅. It was a shame that they blocked the trail which leads to the beautiful cascade waterfall.. 🥰🥰🥰. The staffs are just wow. Thank you for that experience

Wonderful experience and lovely tour guide- Chris I think was his name. Very funny and informative. He made the tour super interesting! Some families on the tour with children who were shouting a lot so we had to make sure we were always close to the tour guide to hear what he was saying. Other than that was a great experience!

Nice outing for a family during weekend also good place to visit to learn something about caves and some geological history.
I went there with my kids and they enjoyed the walk inside the caves. Unfortunately I couldn’t make to the boat ride due to the weather conditions.

I never saw the inside of a cave and this was a very nice and interesting experience. I got the ticket with the boat ride as well but unfortunately water level was to high in that part of the cave so couldn't go on the boat but recieved a refund. Our guide Paddy was very nice and explained us everything about the cave.

Beautiful experience of nature's hidden treasures.
Book your visit in advance. Car parking is abundant. You will be climbing 150 steps down, walk about 1 kilometre and climb back 150 steps. Kindly be cognizant of this if you experience mobility issues. There is a cafe available onsite for quick bites and coffee. Gift shop prices are decent.

So glad we eventually went to the Marble Arch caves. There is ample parking a coffee shop and snacks. Also a souvenir shop. The tour took about 70 minutes. Our guide Cara was very knowledgeable and friendly. We booked online which saved a few pounds. Highly recommended.

Very beautiful natural caves but not my cup of tea. Understand they can't control the water levels, and the boat part is water level dependant. But how is the cost still the same if you don't get to do the boat trip part???? The whole experience needs a shake-up and revamp.
Derek Adams — Google review
Cool experience. It's a bit of a long tour (1.15 hr) so you should definitely plan ahead. Try to go when it has been dried for a few days so you get the full boat experience as well (the first time we went, I guess the caves were flooded so no boat ride). Also, don't forget to bring a sweater. It gets chilly inside the caves.

Been a very long time since I was underground in this cave and I'd forgotten how beautiful it was.
As a young lad I never really appreciated it as much as I do now.
Don't miss the opportunity to visit even if its a little out of the way.
Was there at Halloween and they'd a superb tour through the woods too...
Some real cavers heading under ground were just ahead of me as I walked through the woods so the skeleton caver was quite funny..

This place is amazing and words can not fully explain the wonder that these caves are. Staff are so delightful and welcoming. Our tour guide gave very detailed explanations with homourous story lines.
The caves are a must see if you ever visit Norther Ireland and the drive to and from the cave is scenic.

Amazing cave! Definitely in my top 3 attractions in Northern Ireland. Modern visitor center with friendly staff members, easy online ticket booking, great guide, interesting boat and walking tour through the cave. I totally recommend the cave!
In case of a bad weather forecast, you might want to consult them in advance to check which parts of the tour will still be possible.

The caves are so worth the drive to them through lovely woods and snow capped mountains {March). Large car park, friendly reception, small gift shop and restaurant. Our guide was superb and in no hurry as he took us along the river to different caverns. Amazing history, geology, and sights during our 1 hour 20 minute tour. This was one of the best things we did in NI, even if the boat trips weren’t running. One of the best value excursions on our list, and we’d definitely go back.

very interesting place where nature shows how powerful it is...and on the other hand patient. Proof that it takes thousands of years for something to be created in nature. We have to preserve that.

Amazing caves, great experience. Advise to book tickets in advance especially during summer. Caves are amazing and guided tour, which which is around 1h long is very interesting, with plenty of facts about the place. Unfortunately boat tour is not always possible due to very, strict and limited conditions to be met.
Big free car park in front of visitors centre.
The cafe was closed in February - a bit disappointing.

A boardwalk meandering through pastures & blanket bog, plus steps up a mountain for sweeping views.
Well maintained boardwalk. We were lucky with the weather and it not being too busy mid week. Steps are quite steep but can be taken at your own pace. I had heard negative reviews prior to going but our experience was great.
We parked in the car park near to the marble arch caves, £5 in and worth it. Would recommend popping into the visitor centre at marble arch caves to use the toilets before as no others available!

Amazing spot, but choose your day right! We went up on a very windy day and the last bit of the steps wasn’t doable. But I will definitely be back, the views are incredible and it is a very well laid out path, and the Marble Arch caves are just next to the car park to visit afterwards!

Not sure how to review a trail lol. This is a hard one. Took us 4.5 hours in total from start to finish. I would suggest to go on a sunny day. We went on a rather rainy day and boy we were drenched from top to bottom. It kinda takes away from a good hike day. Overall a good experience. This trail has been on my list for ages and I’m happy to have completed it.
Tip:Take water and some food with you.

Great walk. We drove up from Waterford to do this walk for the May Bank Holiday. Totally worth it, we went to see the Marbke Arch caves too which was only 28euro for 2 adults. Both greta experience would totally recommend. Walk isn't easy but satisfying once you reach the top! LOTS of steps!

This trail can be really nice with good weather. In our case with wind against while ascending made it quite hard. It is very rewarding to reach the top of the stairs anyway and the view is lovely. It's a must to do in Ireland but is not the greatest trail due to changing weather conditions.

Donegal Castle, a fully restored castle situated in the centre of Donegal Town, is an impressive monument to the power of both Irish and English forces. Originally built in the 15th century by O'Donnell chieftains, it was rebuilt in Jacobean style during the 17th century by Sir Basil Brooke after being burned down by Hugh O'Donnell.
Quaint spot to visit. Fascinating history of the buildings and quite a bit of restoration done
. Worth the 4 euro price!

We enjoyed our time here. It is worth a visit once. The entree fee is 5 EUR. You can spend as much time as you wish here. The place is not crowded at all. There is a hidden cell you can reach there if you use the concrete stairs. The employees are very friendly and I recommend this place.
Sibeesh Venu — Google review
Donegal Castle is very close to the town centre and was great for the rainy weather that day.
It is indeed more than interesting – after passing the open part in front, visitors enter the building and find a toilet and rooms filled with information. Stairs lead up to another floor, where there is the restored dining area, and finally on top is another room telling of the history of the castle and the town.

A nicely restored small castle
Originally a castle of the O’Donnell family, this small, but well-fortified castle, was taken over by an English lord after the Flight of the Earls and was transformed into a more stately home. The castle itself has been restored and for a small fee you can enter and do a nice self-guided tour. It’s not the biggest castle in Ireland, but it is a pleasant place and worth a visit.
David Dancey — Google review
Have visited many castles in cities around Europe and although this is small in comparison I found it more interesting than most.
The O’Donnell’s were a powerhouse in the area.
Red Hugh was the last.
The castle was very interesting and in many respects a sad experience as Hugh O’Donnells last act was to burn it to the ground to prevent the English using it as a stronghold. It is well worth the 5 Euro entrance fee.
Paul Bannon — Google review
Nice to see, but not a lot to see, then just handed a laminated sheet and that's the last you'll see of the staff
Thankfully only 5 euro is so not too bad
No parking or limited of about 4 paid on street outside if not taken up
Worth a visit but not worth going out of your way for

A small monument with a significant history. I really appreciated how well-maintained it is and the fact that at the front desk, they provided us with pamphlets detailing the history of the place, so we had a guide while walking within the castle walls. Inside, there's an exhibition with models that show how the castle has changed and evolved over time.

I stopped in Donegal for lunch and visited Donegal Castle. The castle is definitely undergoing restoration. I took a guided tour with an OPW tour guide and she was absolutely amazing and she is the reason for the higher score. She explained the nine years war in such a dramatic fashion that I could have listened to her all day. I was literally on the edge of my seat. There are only a few rooms. There are some original parts like floors and ceilings left. You get a good idea of why the castle was designed its way. My favorite area was the fireplace, and again, the tour guide did an amazing job. I would definitely recommend stopping here and taking a guided tour.

Me, my hubby and two children (aged 8 & 10) visited today (17th Aug) and it was just beautiful.
The walkway is rocky and uneven so be mindful of this. So many artifacts and stunning pieces. Stairs are quite steep. I love history so it's been one of my favourite spots. Don't visit without stopping off.
Entrance fees are:
adults €5
Senior €4
Student £3
Family €13

Belleek Pottery Ltd. is located in a grand Georgian-style building by the main bridge of Belleek. It's an established pottery company that has been producing Parian china since its founding in 1857. The store is known for its delicate basketware, and visitors can purchase pieces at the on-site shop.
I loved it! The visitor's centre has an amazing array of beautiful items for sale and the video on the history of the factory is really good to watch. The tour was fascinating - such clever artists with endless patience to make each piece perfect. No seconds here - if not 100% it's destroyed.

Although I tried to book tour from Canada and couldn’t due to website issues, we decided to travel to Belleek to see if we could get on a tour. Discovered that all time slots were full to our dismay. However, one of the staff arranged to allow us to tag along a scheduled tour. It was excellent. Tour guide walked us through the history of the factory and the pottery process. Unlike some other tours this is a working plant and we met staff working on pottery at various stages. The tour ended with an opportunity to purchase pottery to take home or have delivered. Worth the visit.

We drove for about 1.5 hours and found that the factory part was closed. We went all that way to watch an outdated video. It was interesting and provided context for the real reason we were taken there - so we could buy stuff. It was clear why the big baskets were €2800. (No, I didn't.)

Stunning blue flag beach. Lifeguard on duty in summer months. Two beach wheelchairs available in car park, parking, clean loos, cold outdoor shower and tap, benches. Borrow a bucket and spade box. Park run. Two (fairly pricey) cafes. Yoga classes. Shallow calm warm waters protected from Atlantic breakers. Gorgeous walks along beach and to island with ruined monastery when tide is out. The major draw back it the jellyfish who also love the shallow warm waters, without them this would be one of the best beaches in Ireland. Moon jellyfish which don't sting and lots of compass jellyfish which do. Worth looking up difference if you are planning on swimming. Most of the time the water is calm and clear enough to see them but if you are a keen swimmer definitely be aware. It makes beach less suitable for kids which is such a shame as otherwise perfect.

Arigna Mining Experience is a tourist attraction located in the hills above Lough Allen, Ireland. The site serves as a testimony to Ireland's first and last coal mine, which operated from the 1600s up to 1990. It offers light- and sound-enhanced tours of an underground coal mine, including a geology and history exhibition. Visitors get to experience working conditions and dangers faced by miners with ex-miners leading the tours.
A truly amazing experience, beginning with Valerie at the front desk. The tour itself is given by a former miner which adds real authenticity to the experience. Gerry was interactive, funny and informative, with great personal experiences to share, and all the staff were very friendly. A real gem of a day out. A lovely cafe to top off the visit. Highly recommend this whole experience.

An amazing tour thanks to our wonderful guide that was a miner in this coal mine for decades. That great man has experienced so much and is so kind that he can tell you plenty of amazing stories from the day he first worked there up to the incredible work made to bring this unique tour experience (I visited many cave but that's the first coal mine I ever visited). Fascinating. The guide brought us into the actual place that was once a main source of coal for generating electricity and contributing to the national grid. Through the smaller paths of the mine, you will see a slight fraction of the story of what our human civilization has come from. The pursuit of an energy source and how it transforms the life of the community.
As the space inside the inner part of the mine can be limited, if you are a big group (10+) maybe it's a good idea to call the museum and arrange.

Such a beautiful place to go. Even better that the waterfall is such a short walk from the car park so is suitable for all ages. There's even a nice view point for those unable to climb the stairs. Definitely worth a visit if in the area. Super close to the devil's chimney as well for those looking for a more challenging walk 👍

We chose this as a last minute addition to our Ireland itinerary, and I’m so glad we did!! It was so magical — absolutely gorgeous — and I loved the history. The Stolen Child was one of my favorite poems as a teenager. The walk up wasn’t bad at all, and the scenery on the way was lovely. There is a nice restroom at the parking area. Highly recommend.

Very nice area near Belbulbin. Waterfall waa roaring. Plenty of parking and small cafe next by. Easy walk to fall from car park. Can be slippery on steps as the mist is everywhere. Just a beautiful spot to enjoy.

Great little waterfall, easy access from the carpark at 230m with a very small incline. If you're passing it's worth the stop, there is also a short loop walk from here too if you wanted to extend your walk. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on the path to the waterfall, which is a shame as our dog loves looking at them, nevermind maybe on the next one!

It's a very beautiful place. Just be aware that to get there you either need to take a taxi or have your own car. Also it's a short walk so 1 hour should definitely be enough.
Vast, lush nature area with meadows, walking paths, picnic grounds and a 12th-century abbey ruins.
Lovely walks around lough derg. 👌🏞🏕 👍 beautiful surroundings. Lovely cafe with stunning views unfortunately Food in the cafe is not great at all. Maybe bring a picnic 😵👀 apart from that highly recommended to visit.

Love this place. They have a lovely walk that takes you over a fairy bridge constructed in 1800's. The place is beautiful. Go on weekdays when it is not crowded.

We loved the place , even better with full sunshine 🌞
The free parts of the park are great itself! We did a walk also , as well as inside 'exit' games - little pricey but worth it. We had a great day out.

Take a cruise or just sit and watch the swans and ducks with an ice-cream

4 Stars and a Half, needs more improvements and ways of engaging people with the nature. A silly rewards like a machine that prints certificate for people that are frequently walk in the park and achieve certain tasks in the nature, will be very loved by children :) Keep the good work, as a parent I really enjoy your park ;)

Lovely place to walk or enjoy activities. Too bad the parking lot is 5 euros.... if you stay just one hour it's not worth it

Wonderful place to visit for the entire family especially if your pooch enjoys walking or you could take your bikes and have a lovely long cycle with your kids in safety and away from traffic. The Shannon cruisers Dock there too from further afield. Amazing walks, beautiful scenery. Great amenities too. Luckily Zipit is there too if you enjoy swinging through the trees at height😉
Plenty of parking but it costs €4 for the entire day which is very cheap.
Gavin Pears (Pearcruiser) — Google review
Such a nice place to spend the day with the family,it has plenty of space to walk around and enjoy the view of the lake.
There is a visitor center that offers many things to do and of course has some food and drinks. There is also a self guided tour through the tunnels and on the view tower, will cost you 10 euros for an adult. I would say it is a bit too much for what you see, but for one time it is not that bad. Plus your tour ends of walking over the forest, on the bridge around the tree tops, so that kinda makes it worth it.
But you don't have to pay anything if you just want to spend the day close to nature. Parking will cost you 4 euros for the day, but if you spend more than 20 euros in the visitor center then it is free.
All overall recommended spot.
Enjoy.

I had a fabulous day on a bike trail in Lough Key Forest Park. I hired my electric bike at Electric Bike Trails in the Activity area. I got a great day for it & planned to go back the next day but it was pelting rain all day. The guy picked the perfect bike size for me and adjusted the saddle. He gave me a helmet and told me how to navigate the forest trail. It's really good value for money. I can't recommend it highly enough.
The cafe in the Activity Area I was a bit disappointed with. It's just badly managed. It probably works really well when it's very busy but in the quiet times it's a bit of an unnecessary extra job for the customer. First you have to find a table & take a note of the number. You then have to walk through a cordoned area to see the menu to go back on yourself to place your order, take your cutlery & napkins and they didn't get the order right after all that. I think it was great expectations and mediocre service at best.
Slieve League, situated on the Atlantic Coast of Dongela, is renowned for its towering cliffs that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes and sea. While the Cliffs of Moher are more well-known, Slieve League's cliffs are up to three times higher than their coastal counterparts, rising up to 1,972 feet above the waves at Bunglas. The visitor center provides free entry and houses a good cafe and craft shop in addition to interpretive displays.
Slieve league is famous tourist spots. Nice place for hiking. There a coffee shop at the main point. Only way to get in there is by bus. Public toilet and a shop available at the entrance.

Absolutely stunning views!! Going in November was quiet, and we were able to drive up the whole way beyond the gate!
Alexandra Erney — Google review
Spectacular- but pit your hiking boots on.
May 7, 2024 no buses available at the visitors center ( too early in the season) you can park at the car park for 3 pounds at the bottom of the slieve or if you’re lucky they’ll let you go up to the higher car park for 5 pounds. If not it’s a 45 minute walk to reach the slieve. Then be prepared to climb- even if you don’t hike up the cliff the views are spectacular. But the hike is worth it. No restrooms up there but there was an ice cream truck.

I went there few years ago and loved the place. The scenary is absolutely amazing.

Very nice, no entry fee which is always nice just pay for parking. It was lashing when we were there but still had a great time and the cliffs are so big you're bound to see some of it.

Well worth any effort made to get here it's a long drive we parked at the bottom carpark and walked to the peak . Weather was kind to us no rain . Its a good 2 hours from the main viewing point .

You can say it's a cliff of moher of north Ireland. It's accessible by road but you need to pay for parking which is 15 euro for whole day and 5 euro for two hours but once you see the cliffs you will forget the parking rates. I was lucky to see some dolphin as well. You can grab the coffee at upper car park and some snacks and enjoy the scenery.

Took a drive over to Slieve League this weekend while we were in Donegal and it was absolutely worth the drive. As we had some family unable to make the full walk to the cliffs, we were able to drive in. A few of us then took the walk up the cliffs. The views are fantastic and well worth visiting

This place is so underrated. With each step you go up the nature gives us the best. I would prefer this place rather than cliffs of Mohr.
You cannot miss this off the land experience

The place is BEAUTIFUL, definitely driving a car to the top then climbing the cliff is an easier way to get there. You pay 5euros to enter with a car.

Definitely one of best view point in Donegal and Ireland. I would say its better than cliffs of moher. A must visit. The walk from car park will take around 20 mins - 30 mins but its totally worth.

One of the most beautiful cliff walks and in general one of the most stunning places I've ever seen. The sheep grazing on the sides and just casually walking on the road at times was just so adorably beautiful! The views of the ocean while you're walking along the cliffs are breathtaking. Lovely spot for hikers as well.
Vatsal Mishra — Google review
Absolutely worth the visit!! I highly recommend those with mobility issues and/asthma wgi may consider walking up to be sure you know that the first leg of the walk is extremely steep. You may wish to request a drive to the top which is a short distance to the viewing platform.
The staff at the center were friendly and very helpful. We parked in the upper parking area and chose to walk up to the viewing platform. The views were breathtaking along the way and so worth the walk up. Also side note the centre shuttle only runs on the weekends this time of year because it's not as busy. Hope you will add this site to your list of places to visit in Ireland.
Lissete Cadwell — Google review
There are 2 parkings at the cliff but only the disabled can park at the viewing platform. The walk to the viewing platform take about 30mins, short and easy walk and suitable for young children. Those who prefer not to walk can park free at the visitor center and purchase a ticket to take the shuttle bus.
We were blessed with good weather and the view was breathtaking.

The Glencolumbkille Folk Village, also known as Father McDyer's Folk Village Museum, is a living history museum located in the Gaeltacht of South West Donegal. It features a collection of thatched-roof cottages, known as a "clachan", replicating traditional Irish rural dwellings from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
Beautiful place, lovely scenery and well kept.

My 11 and 9 year old loved the folk museum. I found it fascinating and the surroundings simply stunning and unspoilt.
The little trail was fun with some interesting features like a replica of a sweat house and cafe's food was nice, fresh and tasty. We want to visit agaín already!

Stayed in killybegs Marathon that finished here. This is a cute little village nestled amongst beautiful Donegal terrains with easy access to the beach. On a good day, I can happily chill there. During my trip it was raining all the time with big waves and was windy so didn't stay at the beach for long. There is lovely museum shop where you can buy jumpers, throws, preserves and other locally made products. At the museum you can buy ticket for the thatched roof cottages. They are well maintained and make great photos. There are plenty of local bars in the village and everyone in the village is super friendly, kept saying hello to so many people. Positive vibes all around.

A lovely museum of Irish history with a good collection of back in the day items. The cafe has a nice selection of snacks. We were a party of 8+1 and everyone enjoyed the day even in the rain

Wonderfully presented. Very authentic. A woman I met the night before from Carrick (just a few miles from here) said she visited the folk village with her grandmother, who said "this is just how I grew up." We spent over an hour here. Now I feel I've nearly lived here.
Paul Kustermann — Google review
Really liked this place. Tons of history of course but gives a great insight into living conditions in Donegal in the past. Tough times! I also really enjoyed the cafe: it's like going back to the 50s. That's not meant to sound insulting, it's just the way it is and any 'improvements' would spoil it.

What a cute little place. We arrived as a coach had arrived so was informed by the lady in the shop where you buy tickets from to maybe go for coffee in cafe 1st. We visited cafe and had a cake and coffee, all reasonably priced and handmade. After coach trip where heading back we headed round and could get to most houses to see but a bit tight in some with a wheelchair and unable to get up to viewing point and no Disabled route up there but overall a lovely place and very informative and reasonably priced. Glad we visited.

Visited the folk village whilst on holiday on Donegal. What an amazing find it was! I had a lovely afternoon learning about Irish life through time and the story about the founder was also very interesting! There is a shop and a cafe on site too which were both excellent!

A collection of houses representing building of around 1900 or so. The buildings are built in the same way but are not original as such. The interiors are decorated with period features. Interesting visit to see how people lived in rural Ireland in the period. Not expensive around 6. Euros for an adult there's a tea room as well. Although did not go there. Worth a visit.
Lissadell House is a 19th-century estate located on the peninsula that extends between Donegal and Sligo bays, overlooking Drumcliff Bay. The property features a tea room, seasonal tours, and sprawling alpine gardens. It has historic significance and offers visitors the opportunity to experience the grandeur of another era through its well-preserved architecture and grounds. With events happening throughout the year, this remarkable site is definitely worth visiting for those interested in history and architecture.

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour, our guide Michael was great and a font of knowledge on ancient Ireland and the local area with some fascinating theories and never a straight answer in line with Irish custom! We'll be back

The woman in the shop was utterly disinterested and unwelcoming. No guided tour was offered. The "self guided tour" of a few exhibits was underwhelming in the extreme, and one of the two AV exhibits was out of order, which was not mentioned when we were charged full price to show ourselves around. Looking at the other reviews, we clearly got unlucky with the staff member we encountered.

We visited in October, and did the Samhain tour. The tour was INCREDIBLE - Mike is an amazing guide!! Truly a wonderful experience - the museum has a stellar selection of artifacts from ancient Ireland that my sister and I enjoyed thoroughly, particularly the video activations. We also participated in a tour with Mike of the local heritage sites, and WOW was it very cool and informative! Overall, such a unique and brilliant tourism destination, providing insight into ancient to medieval to modern Ireland from an archeological, historical, and mythological perspective. We will certainly be returning someday, and truly cannot wait! 10000/10 recommend.
P.S. Their gift shop is really cool too (:

This was a highlight of our visit to the area. We did the tour, Elaine our guide was brilliant- a wealth of information and so passionate about the subject made it all come to life for us. This is a community based project which is appealing. Worth every penny of the small entrance fee.
We visited the site and the cave.
Afterward we went back to the centre where we had a late lunch- the food was freshly made and very tasty.

Absolutely brilliant ! 👏
Very informative, beautiful displays.
Rathcroghan Visitor Centre is run by a local community group who have a passion for the area, history & folklore. The well informed staff have archaeological backgrounds and lots of enthusiasm for their fascinating subject. They expertly deliver stacks of facts understandably.
I had longed to visit Owenygat Cave, ( Cave of the Cats) the Origin place of Samhain aka Halloween for some time, but tickets to their annual Halloween tour into the Cave are rare, as only 1 tour of 8 visitors operates on weekdays at that time of year.
I got the last available ticket.
Tour guide Elaine went into some depth detailing the stories and connections of the Cave to Samhain.
The Cave itself is amazing.
The bookshop is exceptional, with a plenty of books on Rathcroghan, texts, folklore, archaeology, children's books. Check out the fascinating Rathcroghan guidebook.
Lovely gifts also are on sale. Everything has a touch of quality.
I will return for the longer Rathcroghan tour to learn about the many monuments and the seat of power for Connacht, Queen Medb and The Tain.
A superb day out.

A group of 4 of us booked for the 12pm tour, the tour had a total of 6 lead by tour guide Daniel. We were given a brief rundown of the next two hours at the Rathcroghan Vistor Centre, before jumping into the tour bus and heading off to the Rathcroghan Archaeological Site. A short distance up the road, the Mound was quite visible from the carpark. We gathered at a number of information boards and were taken on a mythological / archaeological journey through Daniels story telling before taking the short walk onto the mound it's self. Daniel is a mind of information and has an easy-going charm, we were told this, along with being such a handsome young man were due to him being from the fertile lands of Roscommon! Once we had recieved an extensive overview of the site and the multiple archaeological sites around us we walked back to the tour bus and took a short drive to Oweynagat (the cave of cats, or the gate to hell!)
We were greated by a small tunnel into the ground, tucked under a hedgerow. Now I have to say, I wasn't expecting to go 'caving' but... Don't be put off!! The journey down into the ground was wet, muddy and pretty tight in places. Daniel was always on hand to help, was calm and reassuring. I'd never done anything like this before, but am so pleased I did! It was actually quite a buzz!! Just to experience the enclosure and darkness of this place, whilst hearing about the myths and history was just incredible.
I'm giving this experience a solid 5 Stars, there are a few things to note if you are intending on booking the tour. Dress appropriately, good boots or walking footware are a must, be dressed for all weathers, this is a year round all weather tour, be prepared! You'll most likely get muddy if you go into the cave, take it on the chin.. It's a really amazing experience.
I'll definitely be recommending this to friends and family.

Last week my mother and I booked a tour at the Visitor Centre and we both loved it! Mike was our tour guide and even though I've read quite a bit about Irish Mythology I still learned a lot of new stories, especially information about Medb.
My mother has trouble walking and isn't the fastest lady out there, but Mike was very patient and she could take her time to get out of the bus and up the hill. So thank you so much for that!
My personal highlight was the cave. But if you decide to crawl into it, wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and maybe bring an extra pair of everything if you decide to go somehwere else after.
All in all it was amazing, the people were lovely and one day I will visit again!

Knocknarea Cairn is a famous limestone hill in Sligo, known for its giant cairn and historic tombs that offer stunning views of the ocean. It is believed to be the burial place of legendary Queen Maeve, and despite speculation about a buried tomb on par with Newgrange's scale, the 40,000 tonnes of stone have never been excavated.
Nice and easy walk.
Easy for kiddos too.

A strenuous walk. I parked the car in Sligo rugby football club (a honest box is kept). Ver well maintained trail, and the steps were stepper. Plenty of benches along the trail to take rest. The trail leads to Queen Maeve's cairn. An absolutely gorgeous 360° view from the summit. Spent nearly 4 hours. After walk went to Strandhill beach and enjoyed the rest of evening. Perfect for a day trip with family.

We were half way up then came across a sign that said "No Dogs Allowed" (would have been nice to know before leaving the carpark). Like others in the same predicament we proceeded with our dogs leashed. The views were amazing. Despite the sign to not climb on the tombs, there were lots of youths running up and down the tomb.
SN Sobrian — Google review
I've done this walk a few times. However, this time a bit differently with the newly added path around the Sligo side of the mountain.
I recommend starting at the Sligo side car park and going up to the top and back down the Strandhill side through the forest. Then take the loop around back to the car park. This may be best for those, like me, who aren't very fit. I had my legs under me for the strenuous bit with loose rock and the loop is pretty easy on tired legs. Starting on Strandhill side, up and over, then around would be the same.
It took me about two hours with lots of stops for photos.
There is a nice little crepe and snack cart in the car park but not open all the time.

Owls, hawks, falcons are available for viewing & flight shows alongside a small petting zoo.
This place is a 'must go to' for animal lovers. To see a mix of rescued animals, for those wanting to learn more about different species of birds, a family day out, a hands on experience, lots of laughs, a warm welcome and all in a professional and relaxed environment... this is definitely the place to go. Thank you so much to all the staff and in particular to the two wonderful handlers.5*

Very enjoyable for both kids and adults alike, our group were aged from 4 to 73, all had a great afternoon. The show allows you to get up close to eagles, hawks and owls and there is a pet farm which can be visited afterwards.

Not sure where all these excellent reviews are coming from but we had bad experience. €60 for 3 of us. We could hardly hear a word of what the lady was saying about the birds.
We were at the back of bird show so saw very little. A long walk in with one lady partially blind but the road was blocked off to go any further to get closer.
Got the impression the petting zoo I could pet the foxes etc, that wasn’t the case.
Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

I’ve seen a couple of bird shows by now and this was – by far – the most informative one I’ve ever seen! The birds are really close and as they are well fed and not trained to do any tricks for visitors, some might not play along – as one of the big owls decided to do. But you can really see that the birds trust their caretakers and it was really wonderful!

Really enjoyed visiting the Eagles Flying falconry the other day! Not only was it an amazing bird demonstration it was super informative and educational too! The girls we met working there were so easy going, friendly and so passionate about the welfare of the animals they care for - they are an absolutely amazing bunch! I think it’s well worth adding a visit to this place to your bucket list! The petting zoo at the end is also a bonus - very friendly goats gave me lots of kisses too what’s not to love ? 😊♥️

Kids 3,6,8 had a great time (as well as the adults!) staff are very friendly, great with the kids helping them to hold the rabbit etc and explaining in kid friendly terms about the animals. Huge amount of play activities! Large indoor soft play with large outdoor swings/zip line etc. A great evening spent here with the kids asking for the next visit! Thanks ☺️

We had a fabulous day at the farm today! Kids absolutely loved it, loads for them to do. The indoor soft play area is huge! Loads of friendly animals that the kids could feed and interact with. A huge array of outdoor toys and playgrounds aswell, just a really fun packed day. The staff are lovely and friendly. Food was only OK but its not overpriced either so it does the job. All in all its a fabulous day out and we'll definitely be back soon!

Just had the best birthday for my daughter here! The staff was kind, and caring and compassionate, with wonderful customer service for a party of 17 kids! The facility was clean! The rates were well worth the experience! The food was delicious and the farm animals were amazing! With inside soft play and outside playgrounds, slides, go carts and sand play rooms for rainy dismal days..... Overall, I'd give them 10 stars! I highly recommend this beautiful slice for your child's big day! We will definitely be going back! Thank you for helping my little girl have such an amazing birthday! 💜
Kind regards

Had a lovely visit with my nephews over the Easter holidays. It's a perfect place for a day out with the kids, loads of things to see and do. Great to see so many kids having fun. 😄 Staff were all lovely and friendly. Would recommend!! 👍🏻🐠🐔🐢🦜

We were here today, as we have been before, hoping that things had improved for the animals. First of all, staff are lovely. Really friendly and helpful. Food is good and play centre indoors is great.
Now outside is a different story...
There are two lovely kittens there at present...and not in a great state I am sorry to say. One gorgeous little one had a very bad coat and seemed to have ear mites plus a pretty bad eye infection. Also it had a broken tail that seemed to have set in an unusual way. Anyway I mentioned this to the owner who said the kitten was on treatment so I said I would check in again in a week. The other beautiful kitten was sleeping for our full visit..on a bed of straw and rabbit poop.
The peacock area is full of weeds and nettles and goats are inside that I feel should be outside this time of year.
My girls were pretty upset leaving but we will pop back in again to give benefit of the doubt.

Kids had a ball, you can spend all day here. Lots of animals, plenty play areas. Go carts, swings, seesaw....Indoor soft play area too. Small cafe on site, we had our lunch there, it was lovely. Staff very friendly, would definitely recommend.

I have lived in Ballyhaunis in the last 8yrs and I used to think there was nothing we could do around here asides walk in the park. It's my first time visiting this farm and it is such a lovely place.
Also a brilliant space to host birthday party for kids.
My kids loved it and have asked to go back again.
The staff are also pleasant.
I highly recommend.

A big Surprise I’m happy to say. I looked at Graune pet farm’s web site and wasn’t looking forward to the visit that my wife promised our 6 year old going by the web page photos. It’s a bit out of the way but worth the journey. It has large parking areas and easy access for those with strollers or wheelchair’s. It was €8 for each adult and €12 for the child but family rates are available. From the get go we got greeted by an adorable puppy in a stable with rabbits and kittens. A walk around the farm and your surrounded by hundreds of chicken loads of goats, lamas, emu and many other farmyard friends. All the animals seemed in good health and happy and their living areas looked clean and tidy all with food and water. The kids have lovely play areas outside including tyre swings and zip lines. Inside the indoor play soft play area is huge and has pool tables and air hockey to kill some time while your little one is on an adventure. It also has a large restaurant area although we didn’t eat here it looked and smelled lovely. It a lovely well run place clean and tidy with friendly staff. The little extras like “walking on water” only cost €3 and was well worth it.
At first I was only going to give it four stars but thinking about it I don’t see how they could make it better for what you pay and I would highly recommend a visit. We spent 3 hours here and enjoyed every minute.

Loved the outdoor animals, I enjoyed the big white rooster, big personality - he was a hoot - great outdoor space for kids, good paths to walk along, wee indoor visit from a black & white friendly kitten was a delight for my little one, the soft play area is great, although - I found it hard to visually keep track when little ones climb up inside the area to the rear.
Unfortunately didn't get to stop for a bite as we had to go further afield and time caught up on us

The destination of choice for every child's birthday party in the region. They know how to do things right and you get what you pay for. No problem. If you have toddlers. Get used to it. You'll be here a lot.

1 of my favourite days out , the kids have endless fun from open to close regardless of age . Always the best service and a warm welcome for everyone . I make it my business to get a couple of visits in every year and have never regretted 1 of them .

Fantastic Pet Farm. Had a great day! Animals very friendly and staff very friendly, too. Would definitely come back sometime. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a great day out! Thanks.
Absolutely loved this, first of all the price was excellent for what you get. The staff are really friendly. The old fashioned steam box was better than any sanua Ive ever been in. You are encouraged to hop between the steam box and the bath as this breaks up the session and allows your pours to open. When you have had enogh or ready to leave the cold sea water shower closes your pores and really wakes you up. After the session I felt fantastic energetic and my skin felt so soft.I know it wouldn't be for everyone but I would encourage everyone to at least try it. Just make sure to bring a bottle of water they also sell bottles of water at the reception.

Visited recently and was disappointed to see that the bath house is in need of some love. Sitting in the bath, looking at the grub between the tiles, the black mould on the window and doors and another type of mold on the floors...the bath experience itself was lovely but the place really needs a redo. Difficult in closing the door to the bath- all fixable items. Lovely staff, nice bath, nice steam, nice to relax. But, really needs a good clean.

Had such a nice experience here today. Beautiful retro spa. You will leave here feeling like a million dollars!! Very good value for money. Not a luxurious place, but super authentic.
Staff are amazing. There was a little mixup with my booking and they just wanted to accommodate me and make sure I was a happy customer!

What a find. Such a unique experience. I am 6'3" and the tub fit me no problem. In the room there is a personal sauna with a handle to regulate the steam, tub with seaweed and very hot or cold water. Whatever you want. Finish off with an ice cold shower in the tub for the full experience. The hour seems long but we'll timed. Will be recommending to all golfers headed to Enniscrone golf club to head in here after for some R&R

Loved this experience completely. It was wonderfully authentic and super relaxing. We rented a room with a single tub and steam box.
I would highly recommend this if you need a quiet relaxing hour after a long hike or cold surf.

An unusual, but FAB experience!
Staff are dead sound, rooms are just so beautiful....it really felt like I had been transported back in time. The bath was so relaxing and my favourite part was actually the steam box, I could have slept in there! 🙃
Will 100% be going back.

€30 for a seaweed bath and steam which you can use for an hour. Steam for 5 mins, bathe for 10, alternate as often as you like, and finish with a cold seawater shower. The seaweed leaves an oily residue on your skin, so you will want that fresh sea shower. Towels are provided (although the bath towel was ridiculously small). You'll benefit from taking a bottle of water in with you to keep hydrated, and you'll certainly want another one after (which I kindly wasn't charged for).
You will be asked to remove the seaweed from the bath and place it in the bucket. (I forgot to ask if this is discarded or reused - I'm hoping it's fresh for each guest as I was n*ked 🤪)
The seaweed was overpowering for my sensitive nose, so I was only in the room for half hour. It's an experience to tick off the list, but not one for me.

OMG I love this place!!! The oldest seaweed bath in the country with huge cast iron bath tubs and wooden steam boxes, beautiful high ceilings and tiles and a passionate and dedicated team of friendly staff this is a family business and it’s been going for seven generations. Overlooking the beautiful beach at Inniscrone and very reasonably priced I am addicted!

On a windy and wet April afternoon, we enjoyed a warm seaweed bath and stream in their double room. Towels are provided. A thorough introduction is given before our hour's allocation begins. We start with a quick steaming in the old-fashioned box sauna before relaxing in the soothing and relaxing waters of our seaweed baths. It felt very therapeutic while also historic in these baths which have been here since 1900s. Amazing!

Great experience! We arrived early but this wasn't a problem and the lady got our baths ready. As we hadn't been before, she explained the steps to get the best out of it and left us to a nice relaxing hour in our own private 'bathroom'. Would recommend the experience. Didn't give it 5 stars as I was interested in buying some cerageen (irish moss) that was on display, but there were no prices, and the lady dashed off before I could ask her about it.

Totally recommend.
I won’t lie, when I got there and saw the bath tub I was already thinking “What the heck was on my mind!?” 😅. Even tho was my idea and hubby didn’t wanna go. Thought to give it a try after all the positive reviews. And it’s actually worth it! Straight away after an hour or so, we noticed that our skin is nourished and so smooth and the is not expensive at all.
Will come back next time definitely!

Amazing experience. You and your skin feel so great afterwards. The baths use the Atlantic sea and seaweed, incredible. Highly recommend the 2 person with steam room- €55 - very good value. Such a lovely thing to do after a swim or on a rainy day in Sligo!
It’s rustic- not glam at all, so keep clear of that’s what you’re expecting. Staff are lovely also.
Will definitely be back.

Not fancy, but a quality experience i would gladly repeat. Few tips for first timer.use toilet before bathing, switch off the phone, use towel around your neck in sauna box, and relax, float in the seawater with your ears submerged and feel your body rise and sink every breath! Heaven

Sheer luxury. Oldy worldly, original building. Steam bath and seaweed baths are the most relaxing, luxurious treat you could ever have. Health benefits are an added bonus. A must-do.
Julie McGuckin — Google review
The staff is lovely and helpful, 5 starts for them. The experience is different most definetely. But ...did I get the worst room? I was expecting outdated and different but not ran down different. I totally see where the style is coming from and why is it kept this way, but maybe a little bit of tlc would do no harm. I had seaweed baths before and I was very disappointed, that the bath had no slimy feel like the seaweed bath should when the seaweed is soaked in hot water and releases it oils. I wonder what happened to my seaweed...and its oils...Love seaweed baths , but did not have the experience I hoped for here.I could have put a blind eye on the interior and cold shower not working properly, if my seaweed bath was a proper seaweed bath.

Belleek Castle & Jack Fenn's Cafe & Bistro is an elegant wedding venue located in Ballina, Ireland. The castle boasts antique-filled rooms, a banquet hall for fine dining, and beautiful views of Belleek Woods. It was constructed between 1825 and 1831 and has been restored to its former glory by its owner in the 1960s.
Attended a wedding here - stayed for 2 nights as a part of the experience.
Overall, I give this a 5 star rating. It was top notch from beginning to end and the service was incredible. Steven, the bartender, (who was representing the rest of the staff) was on top of every detail. Made dinner reservations in town, got a taxi for our group, arranged private tours and would make any drink (even if not on the menu). All of the staff were amazing and super helpful the whole time!
The restaurant onsite for breakfast was very good. Standard breakfast fare, amazing latte! Restaurant was open to the public, so it wasn’t just our party there the whole time.
The dinner we had during the wedding was incredible, with the best banana dessert I’ve ever had. So good!
The decor is as you would expect. It’s a castle. So everything is ornate and a piece taken right out of history. I do wish the mattresses were more comfortable, and even if that’s just my own personal preference, nicer pillow options. They were very flat and after sleeping on the bed for two nights, I was ready for a more comfortable night’s sleep. The rooms are also warm (because castle - no A/C), but they were gracious to have fans in all the rooms. It was nice that there were enough wedding guests that all rooms were just booked for us. So, while others came to the restaurant during the day or to tour the grounds, everyone staying overnight was a part of our group.
The wedding venue was perfect, though not something everyone will experience. But beautiful and the staff took care of every detail.
We also had a chance to tour the grounds and walk the trails - beautiful scenery all around. Lovely location!
Congratulations to the Belleek team - you know how to do customer service right!

Beautiful castle and drive up to, lovely people, and delicious dining. They were very accommodating and kind. We dined in the cafe while exploring the castle as a wedding venue, and the meal was wonderful. We weren't able to get a taxi into town on our own, but Louise and Ryan helped us with local accommodations. Unfortunately, after returning around 1130, we realized they're not able to serve at this time or after, as we weren't able to grab a drink by the fire. We also had a bit of a warm room despite the fan and a bit of help from the local maintenance. Also, be careful if you step outside after hours, you will get locked out and not able to reenter. I was stuck outside all night after stepping out to grab something from my car despite pushing the night intercom or bell. Thank god I had my keys and was able to sleep in my car as it was 2.5C out. Make sure, you crack the door a bit if you step out. Otherwise, I would have given it 4 stars, and we might have picked it, and this would be a lovely venue.

Food cold and slow. Not waiting staffs fault but service less than desirable. Was a special family occasion. Such a wait between courses. So expensive and not enjoyable very disappointing. Definitely not worth the price. Sadly wouldn't recommend or be in a hurry back.

We booked a family room with 2 queen beds, but when we got to the room, the attendant realized his mistake as there was only one bed. They gave us a 2nd room for free.
The hotel needs some work such as new carpet and paint. The bathroom looked nice. However, there is no water pressure. It was impossible to take a shower.
Breakfast came with the booking. It was good, and portions were large sized. However, they were out of waffles and juice. Don't know how one does that as they are staple items for breakfast.
The forest surrounding the castle was stunning. If you get a chance, go explore.
Overall, it was a cool experience, but I don't know if I would stay here again or not.

The cafe attached has kind staff, but would benefit from some more experienced team.

The place seemed to be run by the kind and helpful younger staff, who were all rushed around the place. Management seemed to be sitting at a table being served food, by the employees? Not very professional. What was worse, the manager seemed to have his two small kids with him running around freely, and felt the need to very publicly discipline his children when they were bold. Later recall being In the main hall and the owner getting very rude and shouting, while paying customers were a few feet away. If this is the treatment his kids and the staff get publicly, I would not like to see what happens behind the scenes. Save to say, we will not be back and I’d encourage the staff the same.

My partner and I have just left this restaurant after having the best dining experience either of us have ever had. The service, the venue, the drinks and each and every dish were all excellent. We were taken care of by Costa and honestly he couldn’t have been more personable & professional, he made the experience unique and although he said he’s only been working there a month - it felt like he was welcoming us into his own home. The only negative part about being there was that it’s so far from where we live (Belfast) - we’ll be back next year and we hope both Costa and Margot are still there when we return!

My favourite hotel during my 10 day solo Ireland road trip! The hotel has such warmth and so much history while also feeling like a home you may have lived in yourself in the 1800s :)
Absolutely loved the lounge, the bartender was very friendly and made me feel like I wasn’t alone on my trip! I had dinner in the lounge since I was travelling alone, and they made a super cute setup for me in front of the fireplace.
I had the room right above the lounge area with a fantastic view of the front grounds as well as the side yards! I sat in the bay window after dinner enjoying some wine looking at the star studded night sky - I wish I would have stayed here longer!
So many of the other hotels I visited along the way while nice, were missing any depth, and this definitely fulfilled my expectations! I hope to one day visit again!

The Michael Davitt Museum in Straide, Co. is an award-winning museum that offers a fascinating insight into 19th-century Ireland and the country's land reform. The museum features a statue of Michael Davitt outside and provides a great opportunity to learn about his remarkable life. Visitors praise the friendly staff and the wealth of history on display at this small but impressive site.

This wonderful museum is well-worth the short detour from Foxford/Castlebar. As a History teacher, I gained a lot of new knowledge about the amazing life of Michael Davitt from the short film, the many exhibits and artefacts, and especially from the informative and insightful peronalised guided tour by our guide Terese. Highly recommended, thank you Terese for this great experience!

The visit started off with a 10min video followed by a really great and informative tour outside by Paul. He gave us lots of information and showed us Michael Davitts grave, along with a number of other key spots that we wouldn't have known about had we not gotten the tour. Well worth the money! There is also a museum section inside for after the tour with plenty of reading.

We was passing by and decided to call in.The cost is only €5 per adult and €3 per child. The museum is the family's old church and his house is marked out at the side of it.On entering we was surprised at the amount of exhibits was on view and a great short video of Michaels life after the video we was brought out side to see the abbey and then Michaels grave. We was asked to leave our masks on outdoors which we found very odd but did it anyways then we was asked if we got the covid jab when we said that we didn't she stood back about 5 meters and we found it hard to hear her speaking we would not go back again because of that

We where at the museum today 18/10/19 on a PAB Travel trip .
The place is full of history , well worth a visit , great friendly staff - plenty of free Coffey; tea & biscuits.
It's a shame to think that a part of our history still depends on donations & charity from the public to keep it open.
Thanks to Tracey Noonan Doherty and her colleuges for helping one of our passengers who had a major inconvenience but was promptly rectified by Tracey who saved the day of 26 passengers and our helpful driver Chris !
Thanks to all involved and for a great job.
Well worth a visit - highly recommended.
Maybe someone from the government should visit also and take the finger out - and donate some of our tax to such a great charity and it's volunteer staff !
Thanks again .

Fantastic park, well kept with no litter. Geese, ducks and other animals around the lake, some lovely little piers and a decent walking route long or short depending on what you're looking for. Peaceful and quiet despite being right in a nice sized town. Fantastic place for a weekend walk/jog.

I had wanted to explore this Park on a prior trip but ran out of time, so this time I was determined. The entrance is near a kids playground and there is adequate parking. Entrance and use are free. There are informative signs near the entrance regarding the trees and wildlife of the park. The path ways are well sign posted and the lake is directly in view, behind a small pavilion. Once I entered the walking path I quickly developed a sense of detachment from the noise and traffic outside the park, an impression which deepened as I progressed further.
There are amusing miniatures of houses for the little people in the early section. This is followed by samples from the Land of the Giants further in. These figures add amusement and interest to the walk. KM markers give one a sense of progress and maps are placeed at critical junctions. There are multiple wooden bridges to help cross over streams. The sound of your own footsteps on the path surface made me think of life 100 + years ago when such walks would have been the primary method to get from one village to another. The trees and flora and fauna are more natural than in a more disciplined City Park and are all the better for it.
On my return route I noticed men fishing and a pair of swans gliding through the water. The whole experience was good for both mind and body. As I neared the exit I was mentally scheduling my next walk. The paths were not crowded and one has plenty of time for reflection.

It used to be an amazing place to walk for children and adults but over the years half of the 'giant' features have rotted or been vandalised, and removed. It's a shame.
Still a nice walk with a good path around the lough and a good children's playground next to the car park. Hopefully they'll do it up a bit and replace the giant attractions.

It's not what it used to be. Coffee stand not placed near entrance gate instead of it it's at very focal point in the park, which does not contribute to the scenery in any way.

The National Museum of Ireland - Country Life exposes the harsh realities of rural life in Ireland from 1850 to 1950, going beyond romanticized images. The museum's sleek modern design blends beautifully with the picturesque Turlough Park lake, just 8km east of Castlebar. Exhibitions cover a range of subjects such as traditional clothing, herbal cures, and boat building while showcasing ingenious uses for twisted straw rope baskets, hens nests, mattresses, stools and horse collars.
Loved this museum. It's like stepping back in time. So much information to absorb. I could have spent ages there. It is more suitable for adults and older children I feel as you can't touch anything.
The grounds are immaculate, you could have a picnic on the lawn if the weather is warm.

Fantastic family day out. Beautiful displays and information of years past from potato harvesting, turf, farming etc. Beautiful grounds and plenty to take in. Ended with a great hour in the playground, their slide is unbelievable. So much to see from little kids to the older generation. I visited on a rainy day in October and while I didn't get to tour the grounds, the museum, café, and services were excellent. The displays were responsibly and expertly arranged and perfect for a 1-2h self-guided exploration. I appreciated the links between older country patterns that have persisted and/or melded with more Christian traditions. Entrance is free and the savory and sweet food options are excellent in the café.

Modern museum over 3 floors. Many interesting exhibits on Irish Rural life and history. I particularly enjoyed the films of craftsmen at work in their various trades. Free admission and parking. It is a bit of the beaten path but worth a detour. Nice cafe on site.

Lovely Cafe there too, and the grounds are beautiful. Definitely could spend 2 hours here or more depending on the weather.

Cong Abbey, a 13th century monastery ruin, is a beautiful, ancient structure with intricate stonework in the cloister and around the doorways. The quiet Man area and religious center make it a great place to visit, and it is well signed and described. There is also a statue of a Quiet Man right next to the ruins, which makes for an interesting stop on your walk through the forest.
Nice spot to visit. Very well kept ruins, clean inside and not to modified for tourists. It'ss
a great way to enter the forest

Great place to visit and wonderful experience! A lot of nature and great trails to explore. In the village it is possible to find good restaurants and hotels. I definitely recommend Cong.

Cong is one of my favourite places to visit. Small cosy village with a lot of character and history. Good food, lovely people and a great fishing spot. If you are not into fishing it is also a great spot for a family picnic.

The living history here is amazing. See Walls from the early 1000s is an unique experience. You shall visit this place when hosted at Ashford Castle. A must seem place

The ancient 12th century Abbey at Cong was built on the site of an earlier 7th century monastery. The abbey was burned several times in the early 12th century. It now is in ruins but is still a national monument and a beautiful place to see and visit.

A beautiful little village, well maintained and lovely walks along the river and Ashford Castle after visiting the Abbey. We got a very wet day for our visit and it was still fabulous.

A really cool old Abby along the river. We drove up from Galway - well worth the trip, there are lots to see along the way as well.

Some really cool ruins in a beautiful space. Not a ton of ruins to see which is why it's 4 stars. Honestly, should be a 4.5 because it's so beautiful in the area. The bridge across the river is great and there's a park with a lot of hiking options. I'd say, if you go, have some other things to do in the area. But it's a worthwhile stop for sure if you're driving by.
Dan Fields (The Ride Abides) — Google review
Stunning Location to visit. Very large grounds to cover while on your walk. Great for family outings fun for kids with friends or safe solo and dog friendly. There is a shooting range operating close to the main entrance for your awareness and your dog or dogs. The further into the woods you go , the quieter it becomes.

A great example of an early Abbey. It's free to visit, look around and take photos. It also leads to walking trails near Lough Corrib.

During our day city tour the bus operator stopped here asks us to roam around… the place was calm but I found it an average street…. The bus driver took half of 60 minutes here but I guess that time isn’t needed. An average place to visit if you have already done sightseen of other great places. Yeah some movies were shot here so people come to see those locations

One of the best and most scenic Abbey's I've seen in Ireland. Tour guide is in ticket price so you can learn something about history of this place.
The hotel Ashford Castle offers luxurious accommodation in a beautiful 13th-century castle. Rooms, suites and the private Hideaway cottage are all beautifully styled with luxury and elegance. The castle is situated on the brink of the Mayo-Galway region, making it an excellent choice for travellers looking for a relaxing retreat.
My husband and I had the most perfect two night stay at Ashford Castle. The castle and grounds are stunning and like out of a historic fairytale. Our room overlooking the lake was so beautiful and comfortable. My husband wasn’t sure if the room would be too “old-fashioned” but it was decorated tastefully in a classy way and we both loved it. There was the cinema right across from our room which was lovely to have, and amazingly enough even with its doors open we didn’t hear a sound coming from it which meant the room was well insulated.
The pool was also a perfect touch to our relaxing few days. All the staff, in every area, were so warm and kind going above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of. They made our stay all the more memorable and we can’t wait to return!

Absolutely beautiful. The hotel is lovely and situated on beautiful grounds. If you enjoy golf, they have a course right near the hotel. The high tea service is amazing and comes highly recommended. There are boat tours offered nearby so you can get acquainted with the lake and learn some of the castle's history. Highly recommend a visit, though if you just wish to walk the grounds, be prepared to pay a fee. This isn't applicable if you are staying at the hotel or have booked an appointment for tea, obviously.

Amazing place! I had an incredible birthday afternoon tea. Due to family situation I was on my own but staff done everything to make sure I don't feel lonely or sad. Amazing food, great tea, superb atmosphere and great quality of service. If you add to this great views and location - nothing can be better.
Thank you so much for having me and made my day so special 🥰

Incredible experience!!! The staff is extremely helpful. I recommend the tasting at George V & Tea. The grounds are wonderful to walk. So many activities to choose from - take a ride on the water for a look at St Patrick's Island. Also a must is a carriage ride around the place. The beauty is breathtaking & although pictures are wonderful nothing replaces 1st hand experience.

What a beautifully restored castle. It now has 85 rooms available for guests. The restoration is magnificent. Every room down to the details have been painstakingly remodelled. The grounds are also picture perfect. The staff is top notch for service and kindness. What a pleasure to stay here and enjoy everything it has to offer.

We stayed for two nights but wish we had of stayed longer. We included the spa package which I would highly recommend. We both had the Ashford Castle ritual treatments. We arrived into a tranquil environment with wonderful staff. Myself and my daughter were treated to the highest level of respect and dignity. The therapist gave us both wonderful recommendations on products. The treatments were fabulous and we had plenty of time to enjoy the relaxation room. Well done to all the staff and keep up the great work. We look forward to returning again soon

Our family of 4 stayed here for several nights this past March and it was the highlight of our trip to Ireland! We only wish our stay here was much longer. The castle is stunning, the service was so top notch, the walk with the wolfhounds was a favorite for our kiddos, and the afternoon tea was a bucket list item for me. We enjoyed the new pool, the restaurants, and exploring the grounds. We’d love to come back and explore the many other things Ashford Castle has to offer!

This is probably the most amazing place I’ve ever stayed in my life. And what I loved most about it wasn’t even the incredible grounds, the immaculate rooms, the amazing food—it was the way the staff here treats you. Every person who walks in is treated like royalty. We only had the opportunity to stay one night, which is a CRIME. I highly recommend staying two or more nights if you can. It is an unforgettable place.

Having afternoon tea at Ashford Castle has been the highlight of our trip to Ireland! The grounds and the gardens on the property are absolutely beautiful, and all of the staff are professional and friendly. We were sat in the most stunning room for tea, and all of the sandwiches, desserts, and scones we had were fantastic. I especially loved the complimentary drink that was brought over, which was a raspberry hibiscus lemonade with a whipped foam on top. I’ll be dreaming of that for ages! Such a memorable experience that I’ll remember fondly, and I’ll be recommending it to anyone I know visiting Ireland!

Wow wow wow. Get ready for luxury and seriously fabulous service. Whether your arriving by taxi, driving up to valet your car, or even by your bus being escorted across the bridge by a kilted bag piper, you'll see immediately why this place is an absolute and true gem in the Irish countryside. The rooms are amazing and have turn down service in the evening. Enjoy a game of billiards on there gigantic pool table, clay target shooting, a ride through the grounds on one of there well behaved Irish cobs, fishing the near by river, going on a boat ride to see the near by islands & wondrous terrain, falconry exhibition, and a lovely tea service. Perhaps ole' Paddy will show you one or two of the secret passage ways thought the castle. The dining is exquisite and ill be back soon. Thank you Ashford Castle Staff!

This is a lovely place to stay. Opulent rooms, great food, beautiful scenery and walks to Cong and other places. The castle isn't picture perfect having added a rather ordinary wing in the last century with emphasis on accommodation over style. One of Irelands best places to stay though, no doubt.

A wonderful experience from the first minute we arrived to the time we left. What a magical place. The staff are attentive and genuine and do everything they can to make you feel special which we did. Breakfast was lovely with a great selection of goods of the highest quality. Everything here is top notch. We watched "the quiet man" movie which was filmed in the locality in the movie theater at the hotel. The rooms were lovely , bed linen good quality. We had coffee in the sitting room and they brought us lovely handmade chocolate with it. They turn down your bed nightly with chocolates. I could keep going. Definitely the best hotel I have ever stayed in and can't wait to go back.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. From the second you speak to the man on the front gate, you just know this hotel is on another level of expertise. The castle is amazing, the grounds are stunning, the activities are plentiful, the food is perfection but the best thing of all is the staff. I have never met such lovely, down to earth staff, and that pay such attention to detail. From my first email with reservations I was just astounded by their service, Laura the Reservations Manager went above and beyond to make sure we had a great trip, and oh my god we did! I have travelled all over the world and I work in the industry but I can safely say, this by far was my best experience in a hotel and I cannot wait to return.

Amazingly luxurious and staff that go above and beyond!
My only critique is that the food was not as good as you'd expect from this level of hotel. The vegetarian lasagna in the Dungeon was inedible. Amazing desserts, though! Will be back.
Shannon Rose — Google review
Stayed in the castle at the weekend with the wife, really disappointed in the food both in the dungeon and the George V dining. Felt as if castle staff was only interested in the wedding groups. Trying have a conversation with wife or waitress and bagpiper playing on and on in such confined space was unpleasant, stayed in the lodge in the summer definitely a much better experience. The room in the castle was lovely, the room staff was amazing. The spa was nearly impossible to get a reservation although we got one on the day we where leaving just a check out time, although spa seemed empty when we where there.

This place is amazing.
Don't laugh fellas, we did the high tea and it was really good. Fresh sandwiches, fresh baked scones, and 4 desserts. Actually left stuffed.
There is an American style diner in the basement. Also the Dungeon restaurant. Cigar lounge and of course the golf course.
Make sure to visit the walled garden and walk around the castle proper.

Perhaps the best hotel we have ever experienced. The breakfast staff, bar room (Michael, Paul, Miel), and the rest of the team made us feel like royalty every day. We extended our stay an extra night which says everything about this place

Beautiful place. Main reason for our visit was to do the falconry forest walk which was amazing.
The room in Ashford Castle was good with an amazing comfortable, big and large bed.
The room was supposed to be lake view, however most of the view was obstructed by the pool building.
Service in the castle was excellent from the moment we walked in. Really enjoyed our welcome drinks 🍸

Only stopped in for coffee in the Tea Room, but the grounds, and staff were incredible. We also had the opportunity to watch one of the falconers exercise one of the birds. He took the time to talk to us after he was done. He was very knowledge and kind.

5 stars is not enough for Ashford Castle. From the moment you arrive at the gate, until you leave, it is just top notch. The setting is stunning and we enjoyed getting out and about in the gardens. The staff are amazing, too many to call out individually but they were all friendly, professional and nothing was hassle or an issue. Whilst everything is top class and it's the lap of luxury there is no stuffiness, it's very relaxing. For history buffs there is some really interesting history behind the castle and the staff are incredibly knowledgable. There are walks too that are very informative.
The food & drinks (especially cocktails) was delicious. The in house cinema with sweets and popcorn was a nice surprise too! You can't beat Home Alone with a cocktail and fresh popcorn! Cant wait to visit again 😊

Afternoon tea in Ashford Castle was a "nice" experience, staff all A1, but it wasn't great. I wasn't gone on the "doorstep" bread, or the liquidised "mush"between the doorsteps, bit like sandwich filler, you'd buy in jars, I have no idea what it was, and I did eat it, with my teaspoon, asking me to eat the bread,a step too far. A nice piece of smoked salmon on your tasty Guinness brown bread, would be more appropriate for the price. Scones and cakes were nice too, but nothing to go Wow about. Our gang were in the Lodge, which was lovely, again staff made the place, from the Security ( making sure, no getting back into the Castle, next day, for a sneaky pint of Guinness) to the Drivers ferrying us around . I hope to visit again, but I'll stick to the very very gorgeous breakfast, and dinner next time. My lack of stars is for Afternoon tea not the Castle.

We visited Ashford Castle on our honeymoon and it was an absolute dream.
The staff, the food, the ambiance. I couldn’t think of a better place in the world to have a wonderful romantic getaway. The culinary experience we had eating at George V was phenomenal.
We loved tea, the spa, shooting and most importantly falconry was a once in a lifetime experience. If you’re considering Ashford, you’ve got to visit!

What a lovely stay at an incredible property. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and only wished it could have been longer. Such beautiful furnishings, property, gardens and views of the water. Our room was right out of an Irish fairytale . A huge thank you to Cristina from the Lodge , I had made a mistake on my reservation and she was so gracious and helpful in getting it rectified. We hope our travels will take us back to this beautiful area soon.

Ashford Castle Dr, Ashford Or Cappacorcoge, Cong, Co. Mayo, Ireland
The Aughnanure Castle is a large, 16th-century fortress that can be explored inside and out. It features gargantuan fireplaces and a watchtower that you can climb. The castle was originally built by the OFlaherty family, who were a prominent lord family in the region. Over the centuries, it has changed hands on several occasions before being reclaimed by the OFlaherty family.
Our family loved visiting Aughnanure Castle for its beauty, friendly staff and peaceful location. A perfect memory was made when we came across two very talented musicians, who brought in a harp and guitar, playing in the tower. We were treated to a concert of beautiful and well-suited music. The acoustics were simply perfect. What a treat! A bit off the beaten path and beautiful. We hope to return!

Only one other couple there so it’s always nice when the place isn’t overrun by tourists. Cool castle, but what’s left is pretty small. The room inside has a couple of neat things to look at. Overall, I would recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

Very reasonable entry fee. Steep and narrow steps to get all the way to the top floor of the castle. I got a bit dizzy coming down them. Interesting information about how the wealthy lived there.
Lona Fox — Google review
Admission was free today and the place was open. Its was raining lightly so made the place more mysterious. The Car park is free at the entrance. Just park and follow the sign into the gate on your right. Keep walking on the narrow road, past the grazing horses to your right and the castle is visible on your left. You will pass a pond-like lake initially opening into a moat like area next to the castle. Lovely place for a stroll. The grounds inside are vast and has a raw kind of beauty. There is a leaflet and information for self-guided tour. Just imagine the place on a sunny day.

Very much worth the trip! Entrance fee was $5 per adult, and the information throughout was really interesting and informative. Very narrow staircase to the top of the tower but that is optional-the whole area gives perspective on the daily lives of this clan. Recommend to go early as it's a popular place.

I might be a little biased as this is part of my family's heritage, but I loved the amount of information they had on the castle. I learned so much that I never knew and can't wait to share it with the rest of my family.

Very informative self tour. The welcoming gents manning the entrance were very open to questions and it was obvious they love their jobs as we discussed the castle with them. Not busy at all, off the main road a bit this was an impulse visit based on seeing the sign for it and we are so glad we did!
Brian Roth — Google review
The staff were incredibly knowledgeable! Giles gave us more information than an entire history course and made it incredibly interesting. Could have stayed for hours and listened to the history of the place and the surrounding countryside. The structure is well preserved and they allow you to actually go into the main tower. Not on the roof, however, as it's too dangerous.
Tristan Greenlaw — Google review
Small but with a lot of information. You're able to go up the tower and see the rooms and all the little secret spots. You learn about the history of the tower as well as who has lived there in a lot more detail than I expected. Please remember not to climb the walls. There are signs all around saying that, but people still seem to have a hard time obeying them. The views are gorgeous and there's a river that runs right by the castle which makes the places very tranquil.

Very interesting castle and some ruins. What made the experience outstanding was the voiceover from the tour guide and the exceptional passion of the docents we talked with after the tour. The guides were well-steeped in the history of the castle and explained minute details to us. Really great.

One of the best castles I've ever been in. Great to be able to get inside the structure and see all the different rooms. Would love to have got out on the roof but the very knowledgeable guide informed us it had to be closed because of regular "jumpers". Very good visit and not expensive on a family ticket. Really enjoyed it and the guide even directed us to a tree on the way in that was over a thousand years old.
