I knew nothing about Wolfhound tours when I first contacted the owner, Dave, over 6 months ago. I only knew I wanted to go to Ireland and it would be my first foray into travel in over two years. I initially reached out to my travel agent who kept referring me to large travel companies, the opposite of what I was looking for. I found Wolfhound by a Google search. Then found the over 200 five star reviews on trip advisor. It looked promising. I wanted a personalized adventure. Off the grid. Fewer people. I wanted to experience culture and mix with locals, so I took a leap of faith and I’m so glad I did. I got all of that and so much more with Wolfhound’s Northern Ireland tour. It was my first trip to Ireland and Dave went out of his way to make sure that I walked away with what I had been looking forward to. He’s a gifted storyteller, and a walking encyclopedia of knowledge about everything Ireland. Everyone on the tour had traveled with him previously-that’s how much people enjoy his tours. From outdoor activities, to cultural sites, he covered it all. This was my first tour with Dave but it won’t be my last. He’s Ireland’s best kept travel secret, but something tells me Wolfhound won’t be much of a secret for long.

We just returned from a tour of the southwest of Ireland with a group of 11, and it was amazing. Two members of the group had toured with Wolfhound previously and had recommended it. We hiked a good deal and got to see incredible array of landscapes, forests, ruins and wildlife. Dave is terrific at weaving in fascinating history and stories of the places we visited, and his choices of hotels, pubs and restaurants were superb. He offered up lots of options of things to do, allowing the group to choose what we wanted to do that day. Dave brought us to sites that were not the typical tourist attractions—there is no way we would have seen all that we did if we were on our own. He also connected us to some additional excursions, which included horseback riding and kayaking. He was very accommodating to our group, which ranged in age from 15 to 82, and kept it fun and lighthearted. We are seriously contemplating doing another tour of the north with Wolfhound in the next year or so. It was really an amazing trip, I can't recommend Wolfhound highly enough.

One of the single best trips I have EVER been on. If you have a desire to see Ireland and experience all she has to offer, this trip is informative and so much fun. Can't wait for my next opportunity!

Wolfhound is the best small group tour of Ireland. Our guide Dave made the trip rich in history, fables, music, and of course adventure. You'll go down the roads less traveled, hiking the beautiful countrysides and forests, searching for sea and native wildlife, and fill your day with activities for all interests. If you want to discover Ireland intimately go with Wolfhound Tours.

I've toured with Dave twice; 2015 on a southwest tour, and 2018 we went north. Both were fantastic! Dave is very knowledgeable about the history of the Emerald Isle, passionate about his homeland, loves nature, and spins a tall tale from time to time. But isn't it really all about the craic in Ireland? Highly recommend! Check out his TripAdvisor ratings and you'll see he is grand!

There are those among us that might say this is a tad overdue. But , there are also those that understand that a man must wait until he has the proper inspiration. I have this to say, If you find yourself in Ireland and you are not on the back off Davy O'Brien's great Irish wolfhound you've made a mistake. This man knows his stuff but also possesses a kindness that makes it seem like no big deal. His singing voice alone is worth the price of admission. By the end of the tour he was a part of the family. Ive been all over this planet and I am confident you will never find a better guide. If you love nature Dave is your guy. Ask him about birds and cetaceans! His knowledge is unmatched. Also, he knows where to find the best Guinness

Incredible family vacation seeing Ireland (Southwest tour) for the first time all due to Dave @ Wolfhound's dynamic planning and deep experience in Ireland heritage. This was the best way to see the beautiful sights away from tourist crowds. Awesome time!

Fantastic, magical week with Dave taking us around the SouthWestern portion of Ireland! Such a great mix of history, stories, Craic, folklore, wildlife, music, food, hikes! Dave is very accommodating and caring to each individual on his tour. It’s off the beaten path, which allows you to see true treasures & gems of Ireland! I cannot wait to return! All of our quaint hotels/Bed & Breakfasts were great! 🍀🍀 thank you SO much for everything!

Our Wolfhound Adventure Tour of Southwest Ireland was amazing! We saw more in the first day of our trip with Dave than we would have seen in an entire week on our own. He thought of every detail from lodging to the perfect playlist. We explored so many beautiful places, many off of the beaten path. We hiked, boated, biked, rode horses, danced, ate, drank, and laughed. Every person had a wonderful time, regardless of their activity level. Dave was able to accommodate my parents, as well as my very adventurous siblings, by providing a variety of options for us each day. I could not recommend this experience more, especially for a first trip to Ireland or those traveling with family.

Dave at Wolfhound Adventure Tours offers small bus tours in the SW of Ireland. After finishing this tour we realized how perfect it was. We saw out of the way places the big bus tours miss and pass by. We saw wildlife, I'm sure it was a Minke whale. We climbed, hiked, drank baby Guinness in the most amazing pubs with great group of people. Dave would customize the tour to fit everyone's requests or suggestions. Add in the songs, stories and views and you couldn't ask for a better tour.... except it was too short! He offers two other tours in Ireland, the Wild West and North, which is on everyones wish list!
Go raibh maith agat, Dave.

Magical! From the accommodations, activities and craic, the tour was fabulous. Dave skillfully brought together a diverse group, offering activity options for individual abilities. I particularly appreciated supporting local, small businesses and the music selections. I can't imagine a better way to see and experience the remote sites of Ireland.

Just completed a southwest Ireland tour with Dave. A wonderful mix of history, beauty, hiking, music and humor. Dave is flexible with plans and is great at reading his small tour group’s needs. A combination of well known and little known back-road sites makes his tours one of a kind. Seriously would give Wolfhound 10 ⭐️ if I could!! Highly recommend.

Dave O' Connor is the real deal when it comes to great Irish tour guides. We took our family of five over and saw more in a week than we could have in a month on our own. Great hiking, great stories, and a great way for our children to learn about Irish history and culture. This is a must tour!

What an unexpected treat Mellon Fun Farm was for my family. Initially we'd intended on visiting the Ulster American Folk Park but upon entering the grounds noticed the sign for the fun farm and thought we'd go there instead. Having visited the Folk Park several times in the past and thoroughly enjoying it each time, it's another treat to recommend. The fun farm was fun at indeed and well worth the entry fee. The grounds are fantastic and all the big and small animals are obviously well cared for. There was a great variety of animals ranging from degu to hamsters, tortoise to birds, goats to horses and, perhaps best of all, the alpacas and ostrich! My children ranging in age from 5 to 17 enjoyed our visit tremendously. There was even a fun tractor ride and several indoor play areas as well as a nice restaurant and restroom facilities. Well worth a visit for a great family or group day out.
Sinead Hoben — Google review
Lots of fun, kids got to pet the small animals and played on the soft play area.

Great day out for young kids. Outdoor and indoor play areas for use once the animals have been seen.

Great day out for all the family! My son loves the Mellon Fun Farm! We have been here quite a lot. The soft play area is a great addition for the kids to play in after a fun filled day seeing all the different animals.
Marty McCanny — Google review
Not a great place to bring kids in my opinion. Yes some of the animals run free but a lot of the caged animals, snakes, birds are kept in cages look lethargic and hardly move. They are obviously there just to make a profit off and that's not a good example to sets in these days of conservation and anti animal abuse etc. Petting zoos can be good but this one should be avoided until they make some improvements in the welfare of the animals.
Cahal Cassidy — Google review
Hadn't planned to visit here today only came upon it leaving the Ulster American Folk Park and we were all glad we did. Great variety of animals all looking to be pet and fed. Lovely place with playarea after all the fun of meeting the animals.
tanya o donnell — Google review
Easy to find your way around, big choice of animals to see and feed. Play areas for both toddlers and juniors, inside and out. Animals looked well looked after in suitable sized enclosures. Fun for all the family and reasonably priced.
The Ulster American Folk Park is a museum that showcases the history of Irish migration during the 18th and 19th centuries. The park features an outdoor history center with period buildings, such as Old World cottages and New World log cabins. Costumed actors are present to bring the stories to life. Located 8km northwest of Omagh, this museum offers a glimpse into the past through its exhibits that recreate a Tyrone village from two centuries ago and a log-built American settlement.
Absolutely fantastic place when it's not Halloween but we also go every Halloween and the show they put on is brilliant, storytelling, cooking, talks, music and dancing , games for the kids and that's not including all the walking about visiting all the areas in the park , highly highly recommended, we all love it as a family from mum and dad to 16 Yr old 12yr old to 6 Yr old!
If you've not been especially at Halloween you are missing out !

Visited 03/01/2021 - booked online (gift aid tickets purchased to support) even though weather wasn’t great, the reception team and the indoor elements were great to start off the visit. Then three themes to visit from old world to the journey and then new world. We had a pram with us and I’d say 95% of the houses/buildings have accessible entrances if standard entrance has just steps. The volunteers/staff are super friendly and we even got treated to some fruit loaf and spiced pumpkin bread as we went around. The visitor centre also has a gift shop area and also a cafe area (a hint if you want a jacket potato they take 6 minutes each and can’t be done more than one at a time, cafe staff were busy and apologetic about wait) I would highly recommend the hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. Definitely worth visiting ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I absolutely loved going to the folk park today for the first time.. we went at Easter and it was fab! Kids got choc eggs for doing a picture hunt , got to taste some apple pie in some of the houses.. the staff are amazing mostly elderly ladies credit to them.. the man in the school very good banter! Will be back at Christmas

The Park is a great place to visit anytime but it was actually magical during the Santa Experience.
Old Tymey Fun mixed with Christmas Magic & some delightful Elves to meet along the way.
Santa was so fabulous, jolly, kind, providing a unique experience for each individual kid/family.
Mince Pies, Warm Drinks, Christmas Crafts, Visiting the Toy Maker, Storytelling, Meeting Santa - all topped off by a carriage ride!
We’ll done to the park & staff for providing so a wonderful experience for adults & children alike.

A lovely folk park with lots of old houses and buildings to explore and a famine ship. Friendly actors/guides. Really good displays inside too. Tells the stories of three families who left Ireland for America and became influential there. A very nice shop, picnic tables and cafe.
Tara Langrell — Google review
I have loved the folk park since I was a kid. It’s been a regular part of my life at least once a year, and now that I have a kid of my own, she can now live those memories I once had (and she loves it). I think the price is about right for entry, the live displays are at random throughout the year, but none other the less exciting, so every time you come, there is something different. Keep that mind. The houses/shops/streets/churches/schools… (everything) are amazingly detailed, rough and rustic and period correct… nothing is perfect, and thats as it should be. Lastly, the hard working staff who act out the living and share facts, day in day out, are what brings the park to life and do not make anyone feel uncomfortable. The little food tasters also (might not be on everyday) which I think is made on site, is great. This is I little gem, and I will continue to pay my bit towards keeping it going into the future. I am so happy that places like this exist.

Excellent day out, very easy to get to and extremely helpful staff. Lots to see and do and all the houses have someone in them to give you lots of information about the history. Called into the old style shop and met by an extremely friendly and very upbeat man serving and he was so welcoming and also very funny. We went to the saddlery shop and the very kind man working in it gave a leather bracelet to my son which was just lovely. I would highly recommend this place to everyone, we had a fantastic day out. We had not booked tickets but this did not matter as we still got in very quickly and didn't have to queue.

Without a doubt the best tourist attraction that we've been to as a family in NI.
It's made by the staff and volunteers, they're so knowledgeable and helpful and you can really tell that they care. So much to see and do, we are members of NMNI as we live a few mins away from the Ulster Folk park but we can't wait to get back to the Ulster American folk park the next time we are in that direction.
I really like that it takes you on a journey of the Mellon family and It intrigued me so much, that after a lot of online scouring, I found and bought "The Judge" to learn more about their story.

Amazing, underrated and brilliantly organised tourist attraction in the heart of the North. You have freedom to explore and experience the life in Ireland's past, walking around the fantastic site with athentic buildings and even chat to some friendly actors who make you feel like you really are in another world. One of the very best things to see in Northern Ireland.

What a fantastic experience. Myself and my wife were deciding what to do on the filler days between Christmas and New Year and decided to come down to visit as it’s been a GOOD number of years since my first visit. It was fantastic, really enjoyed the walk around, the interactions with the actors and the history and learning of it all. Would highly recommend.

A brilliant experience to go to. We went at the end of December and it was obvious that the place wasn't as active as it would be in summer but despite this, it was still a very good and very informative experience.
I really enjoyed learning about the people of Ulster and their experiences of moving to America in the 1800s and how they lives differed in the new world.
The staff are clearly very passionate and knowledgeable and we're very happy to engage with the children and answer questions we had.
Will definitely go again when we are next in the area.
Absolutely amazing. Didn't really know what to expect but boy we were blown away. Fascinating, extensive and interesting collection and a little bit of fun interaction and photo opportunities thrown in, brilliant. Philip was a mine of information and it's plain to see how passionate he is about this wonderful collection. Donations for charity are gratefully accepted. Couldn't recommend this hidden gem highly enough. So much to see you'll likely visit on more than one occasion. You need to book ahead. Thanks Philip for an amazing tour😁 Sharon and Ian

Oakfield Park is an impressive eighteenth-century Georgian Deanery that has received numerous national awards for its garden and building restoration. Nestled in a picturesque setting of parklands and mature woodlands with views of Croaghan Mountain, the estate features a traditional walled garden and kitchen garden. Visitors can enjoy a delightful train ride around the grounds and explore various attractions such as Christmas installations, animal encounters, and charming encounters with Santa's helpers.
Fantastic jewel of a location. Beautiful gardens and superbly maintained. It is beautifully presented with wonderful facilities and staff. The railway is a gem and so much fun. The restaurant has good value food and great coffee. So much to see in the grounds. Do not miss a visit to Oakfield.

Highly recommended. A great time was had by the 14 month old and 63 year old children in our group! From friendliness of the young lady at the gate entrance, the zany cheerfulness of the elves at the train station and the elves at Santa's grotto, the charm of Santa and his two welcoming helpers, the smiling elves at the hot drinks stand - all added to the great atmosphere created by the lighting, the Christmas and animal installations. This will definitely be on our family calendar for the foreseeable!
Happy Christmas.

Where is the option for 6 stars. From the moment we arrived everything was perfect. The weather was fantastic for a start, always ahead at that point The kiosk operator couldn't be more helpful and polite. There is so much to see you need at least 4 hours to properly appreciate it. Plenty for the kids to get excited about and very well laid out so you can follow the walking trail and not feel like you are missing anything.
We got the train and the kids were about to explode with excitement. We stopped for a while at the restaurant and the food was fantastic and we are hard to please and my wife has quite a few dietary demands. There is a full extra menu for gluten and dairy allergies... Perfect. The staff again were so helpful and friendly.
Unfortunately we ran out off time and had to leave but we have our Christmas Santa Express booked so December can't come fast enough for the kids. I think we will be back before then...

Deffinetley a day out to accommodate all needs and ages. Park and picnic area, you can also purchase food and drinks (alcoholic)in the Restaurant. The facilities and grounds are immaculate. Staff are well mannered and welcoming. I hope to come visit again very soon. Wonderful experience all around!

Nice place. It's more for those who just want to walk in nature and have a ride with the children on a train there.Would be great if they could make more entertainments there, similar to a maze(it was really exciting),because the territory is huge and gives a lot of possibilities to make something interesting there. The Cafe is good. The chocolate cake is tasty. The entrance to the park is € 6 for a child and €8 for an adult.

The admission is expensive, even without the train ride. The restaurant is also expensive. That being said, it was a lovely place to go for a walk and there was plenty to keep the little one entertained, including a well kept play area.

Thoroughly enjoyed this park today with its lovely walks, maze garden, interesting sculptures and train that takes you around the park. There is also a lovely picnic area along with a very nice cafe/restaurant serving very appetising food. Glad we got to spend a few hours here and highly recommend it if visiting in the area. We'll signposted!

Such a great place! Well kept, clean and beautiful. So many things to see, the train is a must to see the grounds. the 2 km walk is also a great way to get around and see most things although the ground was a bit wet in some places and it's a bit too rough for a push chair but it can be done. Small things to see and enjoy in every corner.
Only minus was the food especially the vegetarian options. I'd rather they had made a veggie pasta than "pad Thai" that had none of the expected flavours. It was just overcooked noodles with veggies. The cake and pastry selection was a big plus though! Very yummy.

Oakfield Park…what an amazing place, and a beautiful hidden gem in Ireland. I have been here 5 times now over the last few years with my now 4 year old and wife, mostly to events like Christmas, Teddy Bear Picnic etc. The entire setup is creative and fun, the grounds/facilities are immaculate, theres no other word to describe it. The staff are amazing, who clearly love what they do. The Food/Restaurant is fabulous, the walks are delightful with so much to see, and then the 2.5 mile miniature train which operates on occasions is just so so good … especially Christmas at night, which is in one word… Magical! This is no ordinary place… definitely not, its got so much heart to it and creates so many lasting memories. Every Adult and child deserves this experience. Long may it last!

Can't understand why we never knew about this place. If you have young children, it's definitely the place to visit.
We went without children but still really enjoyed the place.
The chap on the entrance to the car park deserves some extra pay . He really made a great impact from we arrived!!
So welcoming!!!
The restaurant was spotless and the food we got was spot on.
We walked around some of the park and it's amazing how much there is to see
Too much to list
It's also best to download the app Oakfield Park App
This way you have the map .
If this place had camping facilities and pods to stay in ,it would be brilliant
So. If you haven't been, get off your bums and give it a visit!!!!!!

This is a hidden gem in Ireland. The moment we arrived the lady at the entrance was extremely helpful and very friendly. The gardens are beautiful with amazing scenery. There's a upper garden that would be more formal and a lower garden that is full of exciting things. Our kids really enjoyed it also. The toilets were spotless and the restaurant food was very good. There's plenty to do all day. The train ride was very good.

Had a lovely visit with my elderly father and elderly dog. Lovely coffee and cake at the cafe. Staff all so friendly and helpful. Dog friendly as advertised even on train though said dog wasn’t all that sure of the train lol. Enjoyed a train ride which was great way to see the grounds without walking. The grounds are amazing… can see the planning and design which obviously went into creating it. We went on a quiet afternoon around 3 which was just about enough time to enjoy the place but could easily have spent more time there. We were lucky with a dry and sunny afternoon. Families with children would definitely love the place with train, small play ground and loads to explore in the grounds. Highly recommend.

Very relaxing in the tranquil settings. The scenery is amazing and the train ride was a blast. The maze was fun with a lot of wrong turns. Will be back again and recommend for a great day out.
Worth a couple of hours visit with the kids. Lots of unique animals from various parts of the world. Kids enjoyed the day seeing and learning about all of them. Recommend to take the green route last, especially if you are with toddlers, as that's where the kids play area is and it's a great break free after all the walking. Doing it first may mean kids will lose interest in the rest of the attractions! 😃 The dinosaur section, butterflies and aviary were the best in my opinion. With Thyme Out Cafe also at the entrance where we could have great lunch it was a great day out and kids enjoyed it.

Absolutely fabulous gallery. We were drawn in by a railroad print for Donegal in the window display. The gallery itself is light filled, airy and full of beautiful and interesting works. Brian's series of work based on his travels to Africa are stunning. We ended up buying the Donegal print and the traveling tube held up beautifully for three flights.

Spoke with the owner for near 20 minutes. He showcased his art done for an Irish fest in Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA. At his advice we stopped in Londonderry to see the gates and the wall. Wonderful advice and beautiful art (we bought two pieces). Artist also showcased other local artists who are all beautiful and unique. If you get a chance I'd recommend stopping in to view his pieces and the larger works in the back (a clear ceiling workshop).

We were happy to come across The Art House on our day trip to the lovely little village of Dunfanaghy. Luckily for us, it was one of the few shops open in town during the holiday season. Much of Brian's work showcases the stunning landscape of Ireland's north-west coast, and would make great souvenirs or gifts. Many other local artists' work was also on display. I purchased a delightful (and fairly priced) print of the beautiful hills of Donegal; a meaningful reminder of my trip to display at home. Brian was kind enough to give us an impromptu guided tour of the back work-room of his studio and showed us some of his recent photography of the Ards Forest Park.
We enjoyed chatting with our welcoming and witty host about the town of Dunfanaghy, and he even recommended a chip-shop for us to grab a snack, as well as some tunes for our road-trip back to Glen. Highly recommend a visit to this beautiful gallery!

Excellent personal service by Ken who is genuine and passionate about his work and that too of other local artists. Ken gave us an insight to his African influenced work, a must see. No one would be disappointed following a visit to this gallery.

The Art House, Main Street, Dunfanaghy, Co. Donegal, Ireland
Glenveagh National Park, located in Donegal County, is an extensive natural wonderland spanning over 16,000 hectares. The park boasts a rich biodiversity and features a range of untamed landscapes including moors, mountains, bogs and lakes, inhabited by herds of red deer. At the heart of the park lies Glenveagh Castle surrounded by manicured gardens and a rhododendron collection that blooms in May.
One of the largest and most beautiful parks in the world. If you ever visit Ireland, visit this absolutely beautiful place.
It's got nature. It's got an epically huge lake. It's got wildlife. It's got trees. It's got an actual Castle! Ireland at it's most glorious. 😍
The walk can be as long as you like but it's at least a 4km walk to the Castle. There are little shuttle buses to the Castle at certain points of the year.
A must see! Donegal is beautiful.

We only had time for the castle, and that was closed so we just saw the grounds. Beautiful and worth the trip. Plan on at least a day to enjoy the whole park. 3 hours should be enough to enjoy the castle and grounds.
Walking/hiking available for all abilities.

Love the different walls and the views in this park. Spectacular at any time of year. Cafe in the grounds where you can get a cup of tea or coffee and something to eat. Bus runs to and from the castle regularly. A beautiful place, but it has such a horrific history too.

Lovely gardens and walks, went to see the house, However the lower floor is the only area accessible to wheelchair users and some garden area also. Staff are very nice answer questions you need a ticket to access house and you are designated a time so come early. Enjoyed our soup and sandwiches in visitor centre Cafe a bit on expensive side the staff were very helpful and accommodating, polite and friendly.

Excellent way to spend an hour or three. The castle was worth the price of admission and the grounds were amazing. We took the bus to the castle and walked back. There are washrooms by the parking and at the castle. They rented bikes (electric too) and had plenty of trails. It was perfect!

Very beautiful place and extremely nice staff from the front desk to the bus drivers and the staff at the castle and walled gardens. Absolutely beautiful scenery words and pictures can't do it justice. We left the area a few hours ago and already want to go back.

What a magic place! You must understand, it's not enough to spend here 1 day. There are several walking tours and each of them is worth walking. So it's better to come here several times and by car, because the last bus is at 6:05 pm and it's not possible to see sunset here. Definitely come back, but in the morning to give myself more time there.

An interesting National park that hosts both lakes, greenery and a castle. Visitor centre has all the information but make sure to enter before 4pm or so to catch the shuttle bus to the castle. It’s a well kept park and the lake is really beautiful to go see.

The park is fabulous.
The lake is tempting.
The castle worth a visit in light of his history and since is well maintained.
The area is property of Ireland.
The walk from the tourist office to the castle is about 45 minutes (very well spent!)
Come here!

Beautiful park! Give yourself plenty of time to visit because it's a decent hike and there is a lot of trails around the castle and gardens.
Cassie Asmondy — Google review
We visited this place in November 2023 and it was a nice day to visit as the weather was good. The national park is surrounded with lush green trees and there is a beautiful lake surrounding the castle. The castle has a rich history of people with great knowledge and their love for art and their culture.
We rented a bike / bicycle to ride the national park as walking would have taken a lot more time. The prices were hourly based but quite reasonable. They had a variety of bicycles in the shed from the normal one to gear one and also the mountain range cycles. They had the bicycles in all sizes like for children to the older ones. They also provide you with the helmet with the bicycle.
It was a nice day to ride a bicycle.
I would recommend renting a gear bicycle as there are many steep slopes where it would be difficult to pedal up the normal bicycle. I took a normal one as I was not so sure about me handling the gear cycle correctly as I am not a regular / expert rider. But to be honest the normal bicycle took my major time in climbing up the steep slope as I had to get down from the bicycle and take it all the way up the slope and then ride it till the next one.
Reaching the castle, they have separate stands/ bicycles parking stands to park your bicycle. There is a nice cafe near the entrance of the castle for refreshments with nice outdoor seating. The washrooms were clean and spotless. Honestly speaking I did not expect the washroom to be so clean as there are so many people coming there all the time but kudos to the helping staff for such great work.
We will visit soon again as due to the short time we couldn't see the whole surroundings.

This was our first time here in this part of the country 😁 the main castle in the park was closed, so will be coming back again soon.
We arrived on St Stephens day 2023 a public holiday 😁
Just did a short walking trail and tried to embrace the expanse of the land and being the only one on the trail.
I enjoyed the subtle design of the buildings near the entrance and parking , with the concealed rest rooms and the green roofs of the guard house and visitor centre

Situated in the heart of Donegal, Glebe House and Gallery is a stunning attraction that was gifted to the Irish people by renowned artist Derek Hill. The Regency building boasts impressive William Morris wallpapers and an exceptional collection of modern paintings including pieces from Picasso, Kokoschka, and Jack B. Yeats. Glenveagh Castle, a remote mansion constructed between 1867 and 1873, was designed to resemble the Highland retreats of Scotland during the Victorian era. The castle offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area and visitors can take a lovely walk to the castle and back. The grounds are perfect for walking with fabulous gardens and there is even a bus service to and from the castle. The staff is friendly and welcoming with a must-see tour of the castle available.
Amazing place to visit. Fabulous walks around the grounds and in the walled gardens. Bus service too and from the castle. Fabulous cafe in the castle. Very friendly staff. Arrive early because you will need a few hours to see the entire place. Castle tour is a must.

Our tour stopped here. This was a very nice stop. The castle is both accessible as the contents have to be inventoried and accommodation made for visitors. However there is a nice restaurant and gift shop, some gorgeous gardens and lots of pretty sites and walking trails. I particularly enjoyed the strenuous walk up the steep hill to the beautiful viewing point.

The castle was good, but it is the beauty of the nature and walking trail that one would cherish the most. Next to a lake with clear water and mesmerising mountains, one feels amazed at the sight. The national park is a must visit for sure. The fresh air with the smell of flowers blooming. Mix it with the sounds of nature and birds chirping as you walk. Blissful indeed.

Even though the castle was closed when we visited, we still had a wonderful time walking to the castle along the lough, and strolling through the gardens and visiting the tearooms for a pot of tea. Great baked goods available too

This castle is not open in the inside to public since Covid. When is open which they told me probably it will be October 2022 it will cost 7€ the entrance.
The bus to get there is 2€ per person and is a 4km ride. They run all the time & is a one way road so it can be scary to run in it since in the curves they don’t see each other. It happened to us & the drivers stopped just on time but we were all scared for one second.
You can also go walking in a 4km trail where you can take bicycles & park them at the castle (outside near the cafeteria)
The gardens & the lake are amazingly beautiful & well worth the drive & visit.
The parking to the castle is free & there is a lot of parking and people flowing in & out so even if it says the parking is full Is not really full.
In the cafeteria they sell food & snacks.
There is a gift shop as well.
We drove 5h round trip to get here & stop at a gas station to get food

The Glenveagh Castle gives a viewpoint into the lives of the rich. The home is decorated with the actual furniture, bedding, books, wallpaper, paintings, etc. Well worth paying for the self-guided tour (€7 - €5 for seniors). The grounds are gorgeous and free to walk about if the tour doesn't interest you. A wonderful place to visit.

Great place if you want to get out for some fresh air. Plenty of scenery, flora & fauna. There are many trails to choose from that cater for pretty much all abilities.
The most popular trail runs from the main car park / information centre to Glenveagh Castle. It's roughly an 8km round trip and the trail is pretty much flat all the way, but 9f you don't fancy the hike 5here is also a regular shuttle service that runs to and from the castle. You buy the tickets in the Information Centre.
Apart from the trails & scenery there is a restaurant and exhibition centre at the entrance and if you venture to the castle you can avail of a tour of the castle, cafe, gardens and a craft shop.Depending on the time of the year you can also hire bikes to cycle the trails.
Entry to the park and the castle grounds is free, so a visit can be very budget friendly. I would highly recommend a visit here.

For me it’s a top 5 place to see if you go to Ireland or Northern Ireland. It has a beautiful history and the places and the castle are stunning. 3 weeks ago, in our 6 days trip around Ireland and Northern Ireland, we had to make a stop here. We were the first customers to arrive at 9 in the morning when it opened. We bought the tickets from the Visitors Center where we paid 3€ for the bus (Visitor Center - Castle and return) and 7€ for the Castle. Next to the Castle you can find a restaurant/coffee shop and toilets as well. Enjoy!

Beautiful grounds, keep up very well. We took the bus up to the castle, you can walk on the trail that follows the same way the bus drives. Bus is 3 euro round trip or 1.50 1 way. Nice parking lot and restrooms by parking, in visitor center and by the castle. My husband and I had a Mocha and latte in the visitor center, didn't care for it much. Worth a visit.

The Castle is now Self-Guided with poster cards in each of the rooms. Still a very beautiful place to visit. Most of the furniture inside is older than the castle itself.
There is a tea room, coffee shop, gift shop, and interpretation centre. You can walk from the car park (about 4km) and tour the castle gardens and trails at no charge.
They now allow photography and videos inside the castle! However, there is a strict no-fly zone for drones in the Glenveagh Castle Grounds and Gardens.

I have been here quite a few times.
The washing facility is clean and well maintained.
The WiFi sucks so bad I wanted to whip my phone out the window.
Most of the pitches are will drained but some of them are water logged.
As usual with caravanning if the weather is good it is all good.
There is a decent bar and a pizza place on site which is nice.
The playground is clean and great for kids under the age of 12.
I will return.

Nice to walk around and learn a few details about the history of the place like the flying boats.
As for the campsite, well catered for if you have children. The only thing I would say is there aren't enough toilets. In the block I used there were plenty of showers but only two toilets. Nice and clean though.
Some wonderful nature and wild life to see. Of course it's great for sailing and water activities.

Free parking at museum, free entry to the site. Café at entrance along with toilets. The area is very well maintained. Clean and tidy. Tables outside you can also sit at and soak up the atmosphere.
Various areas to have a look at, there was only one building I believe does not have a lift to go upstairs and that is the main building in the centre as it is on of the oldest. However, you can enter the ground level which is the original part of the building. Everywhere else is wheelchair and parm accessible. Staff very friendly and helpful. I believe you can pay for a tour guide if you wish.
There is a beautiful walk along the water way that runs just outside the museum. You can sit and watch some boats go by, groups doing water sports that are on the little island or kick a ball around on the grass area. A beautiful area to visit.

Fantastic displays and real value for money, you could easily spend half a day here if you went to the café as well. We didn't get to try that as we arrived at about 3:30pm and 4pm is the last entry so wanted to see as much as we could. 1.5hrs is a bit of a rush, I'd recommend 2-3hrs with a break.

The castle is superbly maintained and its history is very well told. It has an excellent souvenir shop and cafe with a lot of free leaflets giving information both on the castle itself and other places of interest, both locally and in other parts of Ireland. The admission price is very reasonable at only GBP5.50 for an adult ticket.

Donegal Castle, a fully restored castle situated in the centre of Donegal Town, is an impressive monument to the power of both Irish and English forces. Originally built in the 15th century by O'Donnell chieftains, it was rebuilt in Jacobean style during the 17th century by Sir Basil Brooke after being burned down by Hugh O'Donnell.
Quaint spot to visit. Fascinating history of the buildings and quite a bit of restoration done
. Worth the 4 euro price!

We enjoyed our time here. It is worth a visit once. The entree fee is 5 EUR. You can spend as much time as you wish here. The place is not crowded at all. There is a hidden cell you can reach there if you use the concrete stairs. The employees are very friendly and I recommend this place.

Donegal Castle is very close to the town centre and was great for the rainy weather that day.
It is indeed more than interesting – after passing the open part in front, visitors enter the building and find a toilet and rooms filled with information. Stairs lead up to another floor, where there is the restored dining area, and finally on top is another room telling of the history of the castle and the town.

A nicely restored small castle
Originally a castle of the O’Donnell family, this small, but well-fortified castle, was taken over by an English lord after the Flight of the Earls and was transformed into a more stately home. The castle itself has been restored and for a small fee you can enter and do a nice self-guided tour. It’s not the biggest castle in Ireland, but it is a pleasant place and worth a visit.
David Dancey — Google review
Have visited many castles in cities around Europe and although this is small in comparison I found it more interesting than most.
The O’Donnell’s were a powerhouse in the area.
Red Hugh was the last.
The castle was very interesting and in many respects a sad experience as Hugh O’Donnells last act was to burn it to the ground to prevent the English using it as a stronghold. It is well worth the 5 Euro entrance fee.
Paul Bannon — Google review
Nice to see, but not a lot to see, then just handed a laminated sheet and that's the last you'll see of the staff

A small monument with a significant history. I really appreciated how well-maintained it is and the fact that at the front desk, they provided us with pamphlets detailing the history of the place, so we had a guide while walking within the castle walls. Inside, there's an exhibition with models that show how the castle has changed and evolved over time.

I stopped in Donegal for lunch and visited Donegal Castle. The castle is definitely undergoing restoration. I took a guided tour with an OPW tour guide and she was absolutely amazing and she is the reason for the higher score. She explained the nine years war in such a dramatic fashion that I could have listened to her all day. I was literally on the edge of my seat. There are only a few rooms. There are some original parts like floors and ceilings left. You get a good idea of why the castle was designed its way. My favorite area was the fireplace, and again, the tour guide did an amazing job. I would definitely recommend stopping here and taking a guided tour.

Me, my hubby and two children (aged 8 & 10) visited today (17th Aug) and it was just beautiful.
The walkway is rocky and uneven so be mindful of this. So many artifacts and stunning pieces. Stairs are quite steep. I love history so it's been one of my favourite spots. Don't visit without stopping off.
Entrance fees are:
adults €5
Senior €4
Student £3
Family €13
Kids go free.

Marble Arch Caves, located in Fermanagh within the Marble Arch Geopark, form the longest known cave system in Northern Ireland at around 11.5 kilometers in length. Visitors can enjoy guided tours on walkways and by boat through these UNESCO subterranean caves from March to September. The tour is available in English and pamphlets are provided in multiple languages including Spanish.
We had a great time at Marble Arch caves. Our guide Jordan was excellent. He said the boat tours should be returning soon. We enjoyed the short walk from the visitors centre too. Lovely cafe. A great day out and everyone was very friendly.

Please visit this!!
We did not book in advance but phoned to check if needed to. We did not spend much time in the cafe/information area or gift shop as we only had a 15 minute wait but the caves are stunning. I have not heard all these caving terms before and the explanations were all clear. Lots of walking but that's all good. Mind blowing to think it was discovered by those with basic tools!

Well worth a visit, something different that the kids really enjoyed - the tour guide had lots of little kid friendly bits that kept it interesting and fun for them. I think we got a bit of extra luck in being in quite a small group - think that's just luck of the draw re: demand for the tour slot that you book. The caves are also located on a nice looped scenic drive that's worth doing afterwards.

Our tour guide Niamh was very knowledgeable. The caves were lovely and cool 10 degrees. We took a boat trip which was probably the highlight of this for me as I am aware some people don’t get to experience it as it depends on the water levels.
I bought tickets online which I recommend.
There is a cafe and a souvenir shop as well as a vending machine selling fizzy drinks.
I recommend arriving early enough to enjoy a cup of coffee or even to stroll around before the tour starts.

Jordan was awesome with his patience and knowledge. He is an easygoing person who understands everyone no matter how hard they are. We enjoy a nice walk with him and his tons of sense of humor. Definitely I got his name Jordan and not Jeremy 😂🤣😅. It was a shame that they blocked the trail which leads to the beautiful cascade waterfall.. 🥰🥰🥰. The staffs are just wow. Thank you for that experience

Wonderful experience and lovely tour guide- Chris I think was his name. Very funny and informative. He made the tour super interesting! Some families on the tour with children who were shouting a lot so we had to make sure we were always close to the tour guide to hear what he was saying. Other than that was a great experience!

Nice outing for a family during weekend also good place to visit to learn something about caves and some geological history.
I went there with my kids and they enjoyed the walk inside the caves. Unfortunately I couldn’t make to the boat ride due to the weather conditions.

I never saw the inside of a cave and this was a very nice and interesting experience. I got the ticket with the boat ride as well but unfortunately water level was to high in that part of the cave so couldn't go on the boat but recieved a refund. Our guide Paddy was very nice and explained us everything about the cave.

Beautiful experience of nature's hidden treasures.
Book your visit in advance. Car parking is abundant. You will be climbing 150 steps down, walk about 1 kilometre and climb back 150 steps. Kindly be cognizant of this if you experience mobility issues. There is a cafe available onsite for quick bites and coffee. Gift shop prices are decent.

So glad we eventually went to the Marble Arch caves. There is ample parking a coffee shop and snacks. Also a souvenir shop. The tour took about 70 minutes. Our guide Cara was very knowledgeable and friendly. We booked online which saved a few pounds. Highly recommended.

Very beautiful natural caves but not my cup of tea. Understand they can't control the water levels, and the boat part is water level dependant. But how is the cost still the same if you don't get to do the boat trip part???? The whole experience needs a shake-up and revamp.
Derek Adams — Google review
Cool experience. It's a bit of a long tour (1.15 hr) so you should definitely plan ahead. Try to go when it has been dried for a few days so you get the full boat experience as well (the first time we went, I guess the caves were flooded so no boat ride). Also, don't forget to bring a sweater. It gets chilly inside the caves.

Been a very long time since I was underground in this cave and I'd forgotten how beautiful it was.
As a young lad I never really appreciated it as much as I do now.
Don't miss the opportunity to visit even if its a little out of the way.
Was there at Halloween and they'd a superb tour through the woods too...
Some real cavers heading under ground were just ahead of me as I walked through the woods so the skeleton caver was quite funny..

This place is amazing and words can not fully explain the wonder that these caves are. Staff are so delightful and welcoming. Our tour guide gave very detailed explanations with homourous story lines.

Amazing cave! Definitely in my top 3 attractions in Northern Ireland. Modern visitor center with friendly staff members, easy online ticket booking, great guide, interesting boat and walking tour through the cave. I totally recommend the cave!
In case of a bad weather forecast, you might want to consult them in advance to check which parts of the tour will still be possible.

The caves are so worth the drive to them through lovely woods and snow capped mountains {March). Large car park, friendly reception, small gift shop and restaurant. Our guide was superb and in no hurry as he took us along the river to different caverns. Amazing history, geology, and sights during our 1 hour 20 minute tour. This was one of the best things we did in NI, even if the boat trips weren’t running. One of the best value excursions on our list, and we’d definitely go back.

very interesting place where nature shows how powerful it is...and on the other hand patient. Proof that it takes thousands of years for something to be created in nature. We have to preserve that.

Amazing caves, great experience. Advise to book tickets in advance especially during summer. Caves are amazing and guided tour, which which is around 1h long is very interesting, with plenty of facts about the place. Unfortunately boat tour is not always possible due to very, strict and limited conditions to be met.
Big free car park in front of visitors centre.
The cafe was closed in February - a bit disappointing.

Belleek Pottery Ltd. is located in a grand Georgian-style building by the main bridge of Belleek. It's an established pottery company that has been producing Parian china since its founding in 1857. The store is known for its delicate basketware, and visitors can purchase pieces at the on-site shop.
I loved it! The visitor's centre has an amazing array of beautiful items for sale and the video on the history of the factory is really good to watch. The tour was fascinating - such clever artists with endless patience to make each piece perfect. No seconds here - if not 100% it's destroyed.

A bit underwhelming - but not necessarily what I'm interested in. If you do like very fancy cups and things, this is a must stop.

It was interesting to tour the factory and see the process. The guide we had wasn't very loud when she spoke so we missed part of her presentation. It's not something I would do again or suggest to anyone.

Although I tried to book tour from Canada and couldn’t due to website issues, we decided to travel to Belleek to see if we could get on a tour. Discovered that all time slots were full to our dismay. However, one of the staff arranged to allow us to tag along a scheduled tour. It was excellent. Tour guide walked us through the history of the factory and the pottery process. Unlike some other tours this is a working plant and we met staff working on pottery at various stages. The tour ended with an opportunity to purchase pottery to take home or have delivered. Worth the visit.

We visited as part of a tour.
We drove for about 1.5 hours and found that the factory part was closed. We went all that way to watch an outdated video. It was interesting and provided context for the real reason we were taken there - so we could buy stuff. It was clear why the big baskets were €2800. (No, I didn't.)
Staff was nice, prices high, displays interesting but few.

One of the beautifully hidden waterfalls in Ireland. Drove down a beautiful hill to get here and it was worth it. I could peacefully sit there and observe the fall. We were there in early March so not many people were around, we got to enjoy the space all for ourselves. Definitely recommended to see in Donegal.
Sony Prajapati — Google review
The best waterfall that I've seen in Ireland. Road to get there is very narrow. Parking spots in front of waterfall for about 10 vehicles. It's well worth the time to go visit.
Mellman Memos — Google review
An t-Eas 'N Ranca (Assaranca Waterfall) is awesome and well worth the effort to get there. It comes down in to a pool and then flows into the estuary at the sea. Most people don't take pictures looking out toward the sea, so unless you've been there before, you don't know how close it is to the ocean.
It is about 8km southeast of Ardara in Donegal and just 1km past the village of Leaconnell. It takes about 15 - 25 minutes to drive there and is on the way to Maghera Beach along a road off the N56. You can easily combine a visit to the falls with the popular beach and caves of Maghera, as they’re just 1km further along the road. However, the caves are best at low tide.
The waterfall is literally on the side of the road and you have to drive past it or to it. There is a car park at the base of the waterfall that's a good size.
If possible and not during the busy summer season, it's good to pull over for a quick picture of the entire waterfall as soon as it comes into view. But, you're on a very, very narrow road and should not stay there very long.
Once you get back to Ardara or Portnoo, stop in a pub for a drink of the Assaranca Vodka made by Sliabh Liag Distillery in Ardara to celebrate. They also make Silkie Whiskey and An Dúlamán Maritime Gin.

This waterfall is flowing in cascades from over 140 meters! Beautiful place but be careful there and run from the flies that are biting in swarm attack! I have been very badly bite 60 times! It is healing now 5th day and it still ichy so bad that I can't stand it! Best time for visit would ve mid-day where there is a lot of sun - these flies are only in the morning and evening.

Dave O'Beirne — Google review
Loved this spot! Such easy access as it's right on the road. People don't seem to stay long so you can easily wait for others to leave to get your photos. Worth walking 10 mins or so down the road to Maghera beach which is also stunning.

Feels amazing to be standing beside this, it's a pity there are no road signs to it but Google maps will guide you on your way. If you're this far then carry on down the road and you will find the caves. There are many nice views and things to see around this part of the world so take your time and see what's available out there.

Has been raining on the day of visit and the day before making it fantastic to visit with the roaring sound of the waterfall though I would prefer a cleaner looking water but that’s nature doing it’s own thing 😊
Small car park right at the foot of the fall and definitely not quiet during summer season.

Really beautiful waterfall to stop by on the way. Guinness water flowing from the top reaching the ground and making eccentric view for the visitors.
The waterfall was visible from far away when we were able to reach. Really good for photos and cans spent some time sitting there.

As noted by several reviews, worth the 10 minute drive along narrow roads to park right in front. Nice place for quiet reflection. Saw several memorials to the left. Drive another three minutes to see the caves and beach, but expect to pay there for parking
G Mark Hardy — Google review
The waterfall is incredibly peaceful and serene. You can access it from two different roads. The road near Assaranca town appeared closed, but we decided to try it anyway and found it was actually open with some ongoing construction. The road is narrow, so drive cautiously. The waterfall offers fantastic spots for photography.
Shriyaa — Google review
Beautiful views along the drive if approaching from the Ardra direction - such a spectacular waterfall , and this one needs no trekking to see, it's visible on approach from the road, good sized parking area directly in front on it - care when walking towards the viewpoint, it can be slippery and muddy...don't forget to see the wishing post, mostly it's not concidered at all - as people have no idea what it is.
Anita Mc Nally — Google review
Beautiful place. It gets plenty of visitors. Plenty, who walks past what I assume is a wishing post. I put my Euro on it made my wish and hopefully it will come true. 😉 All jokes aside it is a natural beauty photographed a lot. Enjoy

A short drive outside Ardara you turn off the N56 onto a smaller road. It’s narrow in parts and there are a few tight bends; don’t get distracted by the lovely scenery.
Google Maps directions bring you to a gravelled area at the bottom of the falls where you can park, so you don’t have to walk at all.
The falls are stunning and as it had rained there was a lot of water flowing, they were noisy, well worth the visits

Beautiful beach for a long stroll with pristine, white sand. Along the seashore is a paved walkway where you can enjoy a relaxing walk with stunning views. The fairy bridges are something unique to see. An outing that will leave you feeling relaxed and invigorated.
Linda van den Berg — Google review
The Fairy Bridges is a natural arch in the cliffs, with blow holes that date as far back as the 1700s. The Wishing Chair is also very popular with visitors, who take advantage of the magical powers of the natural stone chair. More than the bridge I loved the beautiful beach and sea around this area. Good place for a long walk and to be close to the nature. Please be careful about the weather before coming on this place because the real majestic view you could see only in a good sunny day. On this site you can learn all about the Fairy Bridges & Wishing Chair, their notoriety as Bundoran’s first tourist attraction back in the 1800s, how to make your wish so you know it will come true and also about the general history and geology of the area! Good place to visit with children and make them learn about the fairies. :) Beautiful beach for a long stroll with pristine, white sand. Along the seashore is a paved walkway where you can enjoy a relaxing walk with stunning views. The fairy bridges are something unique to see. An outing that will leave you feeling relaxed and invigorated.

Great place, lovely walks and amazing views that photos don’t do justice, the rock formations are so cool to explore, just be careful as very uneven ground around the bridges but worth going to see! Beautiful views of the coast and sea as well and free car parking- there was also a wee coffee van when we went on a Monday.

Fairy Bridges is amazing rocky arch Above the sea in Bundoran, but this is just one of many things you can see in this town. We enjoyed staying for 4 days with 3 kids but if we will get a chance to come back again I will not hesitate. We even swam in the Atlantic realizing it is doable despite the relative cold 16C water. The Tullan strand is amazingly wide and long with surfers, horse riding, building sand castle or just walking and observing the ocean surge and waves. The Little rock water pools on the Blue flag Bundoran beach are nice just to watch the sea creatures. There is over 50 pubs in the town, everything is close in a walking distance, a great place for a family holiday. Not staying about attractions near by like Slieve League boat trip from Teelin, Gleniff horse shoe drive, Glencar waterfall etc.

There is lot on this trail. A good beach, fairy bridge, wishing chair and Rougey cliff walk. A decent beach and good for surfing and trekking. Plenty of paid and free parking available. And at times some food vendors too. If if you have a dog then this is the place. It is small version of bridges of Ross.

Really cool for either a quick stop or to spend a bit of time walking around.
There were paved paths just above the bridges but the better views are on uneven ground and with open cliff access.

Come here with kids because it is well laid out path along the coast with views that pictures cannot relay.Take the little ones by the hand and guide them to this beautiful spot.Mother nature did an excellent job here to entertain and to mesmerize.Let your imagination go free and take pictures on the rock chair close by!!

With scenic views for 360 degrees you can see back into Mullaghmore, County Sligo and across Donegal Bay to the magical Slieve League Cliffs.
As you begin the Roguey Walk Experience, you will arrive at the stunning Fairy Bridges – sea stacks hundreds of years old and Bundoran’s original tourist attraction back in the 1800s. However, it is believed that as far back as the 1700s locals thought these to be haunted by the fairies with the result of the name “The Fairy Bridges”.
While you’re there, take a seat on Bundoran’s own Wishing Chair. It is said that many of the town’s famous visitors over the years have sat here overlooking the wild Atlantic Ocean – from poet William Allingham to golfer Christy O’Connor Jr to Viscount Enniskillen to 10 times world champion surfer Kelly Slater – they’re all believed to have sat in Bundoran’s famous Wishing Chair located at the Fairy Bridges at Tullan Strand.

Beautiful scenery and views at the fairy bridges. There's a lovely walk round it called Rougey walk and smashing cliff vista's. It can be windy and blustery but when the sun's out its a gorgeous place to chill out. Not far from the fairy bridge's is the wishing chair which is fun. A large rock formation shaped like a chair with folklore back story to add to the setting. A bit of superstitious fancy . One of the highlights in Bundoran.
A stunning drive in our motorhome which we drove early to avoid any oncoming traffic. There are plenty of passing places and you just need to keep mindful of other vehicles heading your way. There are a couple of overnight spots as you head through the Pass.

Stunning scenery as you drive through this mountain pass. Views for miles of the surrounding mountains and on a clear day right out to the sea. The road itself is good for this type of scenic route, we had to tackle it on a snowy day and the road felt smooth and safe. It is very steep however, much easier to drive north through it and come down the steepest part than try to make your way up the pass the other way!

The Maghera Caves are located near the Eas a Rance waterfall outside Ardara in Donegal. These caves can be found under the Slievefooey Mountain and are a great place for exploration and photography. The nearby Maghera Beach offers visitors a quiet and remote natural haven with an opportunity to visit the 20 caves below Slievetooey Mountain when the tide is low. This iconic beach and its associated caves make for a beautiful scenery that many tourists enjoy visiting.
An absolute iconic beautiful beach and Caves at Maghera Beach, just a few kilometres outside Ardara, Donegal. Lovely walk and when tide is out, a visit to the caves is a must. So beautiful 💚💛
Tina McBrearty — Google review
Maghera is one of a kind, vast plateau and bay of white gold sand. The cliffs, the caves and the natural tidal pools that appear at low tide, especially in summer time, are just out of this world. I won’t take a star for it, but I think this is worth mentioning:
1. If you drive, there’s parking space on private land and you will be charged about €3 (as of 2022-2024) for a day. I believe it is cash only. In busy times there is a lot of space when the secondary field is opened, but if not, it’s quite narrow strip of land so make sure you are comfortable with manoeuvring your car a bit and park close to other cars to allow for others to have space too. Access to the beach itself is free of charge, only parking is paid. If you fancy a short walk, you could park at Assaranca waterfall free of charge and walk about one 1-1.5 km.
2. This beach although scenic and amazing, is one of the most exposed to Atlantic winds, so usually is a bit breezy. Make sure that you have some layers just in case. You can usually find a spot behind white dunes to cover yourself from the wind, so not a bother, but I know some people are not fond of windy beaches.
3. Cellular coverage might be a challenge there depending on network, so account for that if you’re dependent on signal and need it during your stay. There are definitely places where it can be found even if you initially get zero bars, but you might need to walk around to find less patchy area.

Great caves, beautiful beach.. be very careful with incoming tides... work out low tide time for best visits.
Andy West — Google review
A lovely spot especially on a sunny day, the beach is accessible all the time via a few minutes walk, the caves are accessible only at low tide.
Not a safe beach for swimming at all, drop offs and strong currents prevail. Don't be fooled by the golden sands and turquoise waters.

This is a MUST.
Best beach to visit in the whole Co. Donegal.
This places is just breath taking.
Huge beaches, lovely sand, amazing caves, everything is perfect.
Watch out for tides, since they grow quickly.
Another good view point is from the other side, a cross the bay. Worth the 30min drive, if enough time on your schedule.

An wonderful adventure for young and old alike. A great surprise. Road is narrow to get there, parking is 3 pounds, not toilets. Easy to get to the beach.

There’s space to park your car as you come here but be sure to carry atleast 3€ for it. I didn’t have any cash and had to find a spot to park outside the designated car park.
From the car park, it’s hardly a 5 min walk to the beach.
To get to the caves/main beach you’ve to cross a stream of water which can get deep in some parts, so flip flops/carry bag and towel might be handy. We didn’t have our swimming gear so we f couldn’t go to some of the caves as they’ve a pool of water.
Overall a scenic and quite beach, must visit!

Exploring the Meghare Caves in Donegal was an experience that left me truly mesmerized. The natural beauty of this place is simply beyond words – a stunning blend of rock formations, shadows, and echoes that transport you to a different world.
The modest €3 admission fee per car is a small price to pay for the incredible sights that await you within.
If you're in search of an unforgettable adventure surrounded by beauty, don't miss the chance to visit the breathtaking Meghare Caves.

It is a very beautiful naturally carved caves. It is just one hour drive from Letterkenny. There are lots of caves on the beach, few are filled with stone, few with water and some are filled with mud. A few caves look a bit scary. There is a small car parking 5 mins away from caves. A local person charged us 3 euro for this parking. I am not sure if it was free or paid. The view is very majestic. Just keep in mind the tides as it gets high in the evening.

We were really impressed with this cave, short walk up to the cave, nice ride with boat on the river (we were lucky as mostly the water is too high for boats) inside cave and about 45-50 min walk inside.Lots of thing to admire. Our guide Niall was really good with lots of funny stories and informations about the cave.I would recommend 100%.Specious car park and facilities with coffy shop, souvenirs.

Highly suggest to visit this wonderful beach and cave. Giant beach with loads of places to take a dip. Caves are amazing too. ♥️

We came for the caves but stayed for the beautiful beach. It's one of the prettiest sandy beaches in all of Ireland with clear waters. The only thing you need to be mindful of if you intend on swimming are the jellyfish. You can park not too far from the caves (there are limited spaces), however on a busy day you can also park at the waterfall and just walk there (about 1.5 kms in total). Be mindful of the tides, also, is my advice.
A beautiful crisp, exciting day for all ages! The price was very reasonable for two adults and a child of 7! With two hours as a session, 5 larger exhilarating slides for kids and adults; and a toddler pool, plus a pirate ship kids slide and a rip current drift wave pool! The staff was friendly and on top of their tasks! The lifegaurds were excellent and alert to all safety procedures! There's a little coffee and tea souvenir shop. An outside playground! Amusement park with go carts and many kid friendly rides!!! Just beside a wonderful Irish coast with stunning art and sea life slices! We will definitely be going back! A wonderful indoor and outdoor spot for picnics and sea side fun on a sunny or rainy day!

A great place for a family spin out! They've the pool, and then Mammy had the option of going up for a seaweed bath, but she opted out in the end. The place is as busy! I went into the lazy river with the small wan, and jaysus I nealry puked inside in it, I got fierce nauseous from going around it for half an hour. The young wans loved the slides, but I got an awful fright because, at the end they furr you off into a big deep pool! They didn't tell me that before sending me off on it! I swallowed about eighteen pints of water at the bottom! And my togs nearly came off me, and I was mortified! There was also a massive spider in the changing room, and the little small wan ran out and the lifeguard nearly died from the shock. I think they gave him a slap of a mop. The wave machine is very intense... Too intense for the little wans, they had to stay away over at the little wee diddy baby bits, like the dolphin and the mushroom. But the older wans loved it, and they claimed they were too big for waterparks! HA? Tis a fantastic place for the whole family. Twouldn't be too dear either.

Took the kids here for a Day out, staff were fantastic and helpful, facilities Clean, Pool was great, however the Wave pool/machine wasn’t working on our visit. One of my sons was 1.1m at home, measured with a tape as had checked website before booking on height requirments for slides. So we thought we were good to go. But they wouldn’t allow him on some slides with a height restriction of 1.1m, not very clear or technical on the measurement process there. (He was very disappointed, as our last visit to Aquatic centre this was an issue and caused a bit of a stir between the lad who could go and the one who couldn’t, hence why we checked before we went) this made it very difficult during visit to watch both kids with only 1 parent present, and meant a bit of waiting around at the bottom of slides with 1 lad out of water getting cold! All in all apart from this the kids did love it!

Kids had great fun. Good activities, waves, slides etc for all ages. Coming out at the end of the session was chaos in the changing rooms though as next session was coming in at the same time. Had to wait ages for changing rooms. That's why I dropped a star. Otherwise fab!
Bernadette Casey — Google review
We had a great day out here, big lockers, big changing rooms, warm showers, very clean, helpful staff. Only deducting a star because the card machine was out of action as were some of the slides. Kids want to go again! Great for all ages and not a bad price for a big family day out considering it suited all of ours ages 16 down to 6. We'll be back!

Great place for kids. Fun pool and slides for kids. It is better for slightly older kids who can mange the water alone, but that is just part of teh pool experience. the only problem we had was that the but changing area is so so cold! my 3 were freezing getting changed,
Mary Doherty — Google review
Really disappointed. Place needs a major revamp. Locks hanging of toilet and changing room doors. Changing area is Baltic cold. Staff seem like they just dont want to be there. The pool itself is fine and plenty to do for the kids but for €31 for just me and my 3 year old not worth it.

What can I say? Absolutely amazing! With a family of 5 (3 boys teen to 8 years old) we have been to other water parks, but WaterWorld is the best! Lots of staff on duty, lots of slides & actual pools including a wave pool & lazy river & a toddler section. They don't cram loads of people in to make money, a full session is not jam packed at all. Would highly recommend a visit here when you're in Donegal.
Mary Frances McCullough — Google review
Totally loved it. They have 3 big slides, water was warm. If you are going there, be sure to be there before 2pm. They have waves at that time and they were really big waves. Call them to confirm the time of waves, don't know if it's they change the time. Good if you want to chill out, good if you want to workout climbing up the stairs for slides or running with flow in a tornado kind of circular corridor. Baby pool for babies. Highly recommended.
Billey Bans — Google review
Absolutely jam-packed. Waiting for changing rooms to go into the pool while other people who were finished their time Waiting for changing rooms to get dry and dressed. So we left before our 2 hrs were up so we could get changing rooms before the rush. Even then it wasn't easy to get one. The floors in the changing rooms were dirty. No staff cleaning them . Place felt cold as well. Kids did enjoy it. Staff were helpful and friendly. Plenty of life gards on duty.
Sandra Traynor — Google review
Great water slides, pool size itself is small (understandable its catered towards younger kids and slides).
Limited in changing rooms, where groups are leaving the pool while people are also coming in, could be better organised in that respect. Had to change in toilets both times.
€16.50 is abit expensive for an adult in my opinion for the facilities offered. Again, its a lovely place but could be better with improvement.

We had a great day out at Waterworld Bundoran with our family. There was something for everyone, from the little ones to the adults. The slides were great fun, and the wave pool was a lot of excitement. We also enjoyed the lazy river and the kids' area.
The park was clean and well-maintained, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend Waterworld Bundoran to anyone looking for a fun day out with the family.
Pros:
Variety of slides and water features
Clean and well-maintained
Friendly and helpful staff
Wave pool
Lazy river
Kids' area
Cons:
Can get crowded, especially on weekends and during the summer holidays
Changing rooms could be cleaner
Overall:
Waterworld Bundoran is a great place to spend a hot day with the family. We had a lot of fun, and we would definitely recommend it to others.

It's a good place. But don't expect a huge variety water slides.. only few slides are inside. But kids enjoyed a lot. Water wave and water loop was really enjoyable with whole family..
Swim Hat is compulsory so if you have one better to take it with you..

We had a great day.. my son and husband enjoyed the pool the slides the waves the little whirl pool..
It was a nice afternoon out which we had a good family day.. price was a little bit expensive but worth it..
The changing rooms were very small and run down and a little bit untidy.. we went on a Monday in august which I assumed would be quiet but it was quite busy..

I was here as a child and absolutely loved it, so I took my own child, and she loved it. You have to book online, I would not show up without doing so as there are queues to get in. It was very busy when we arrived for our 1 :15 pm slot. The changing rooms are cramped, and there are not enough cubicles for people. We had to wait when they came out of the pool and try to grab one. The pool itself has 3 flume slides, and there are multiple other ones for younger children. There are lifeguards everywhere, very well manned. I would definitely go back, but I think the changing area should be expanded and cleaned more frequently.

Our kid loved it, and we had a great time as a family, with plenty of time to experience everything. The water is regularly checked for cleanliness and there is plenty of staff present to keep things safe for everyone. The showers are super hot; maybe too much for young kids? We will come back again 😊

Great craic for the family!! Kids LOVED it and so much lifeguards everywhere so you feel so safe. However facilities look about 30 years old, showers and changing room bit rank. Feel like could do with a serious update!
Arigna Mining Experience is a tourist attraction located in the hills above Lough Allen, Ireland. The site serves as a testimony to Ireland's first and last coal mine, which operated from the 1600s up to 1990. It offers light- and sound-enhanced tours of an underground coal mine, including a geology and history exhibition. Visitors get to experience working conditions and dangers faced by miners with ex-miners leading the tours.
A truly amazing experience, beginning with Valerie at the front desk. The tour itself is given by a former miner which adds real authenticity to the experience. Gerry was interactive, funny and informative, with great personal experiences to share, and all the staff were very friendly. A real gem of a day out. A lovely cafe to top off the visit. Highly recommend this whole experience.

Absolutely terrific experience and Gerry the tour guide was an ex miner and knew his stuff!
He was very informative and enthusiastic - always engaging in our group and animated in everything he talked about.
Excellent trip and the family tickets were very reasonably priced.
I had wanted to do this last year but COVID restrictions were still in place so delighted to do it this time visiting Eire.
I have only advised you buy tickets and have a short wait because it's time slots you buy online.

Michael was our guide, lovely man, ex miner with plenty of tales. Not for the claustrophobic or if you have issues walking, as some parts are a bit steep, and if it has rained, can be slippy. Great experience and a pleasant way to spend an afternoon if you have food in the cafe or your own picnic on the benches outside. Lovely views of the surrounding countryside.

A really enjoyable visit to the Arigna Mines. Our tour was conducted by Gérard who was full of interesting facts and banter. He was able to talk about his lived experience of working the mine which really added value to the tour. Some terrific photo opportunities both inside and outside of the mine!
Well worth a visit! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An amazing tour thanks to our wonderful guide that was a miner in this coal mine for decades. That great man has experienced so much and is so kind that he can tell you plenty of amazing stories from the day he first worked there up to the incredible work made to bring this unique tour experience (I visited many cave but that's the first coal mine I ever visited). The tour is really an immersion to the working conditions of the time in the mind but also the town life and the industrial background. So don't hesitate to question the great guide to get the full experience. Really, truly enjoyed.

Absolutely amazing experience!! Gerry our tour guide was a great man! So knowledgeable from actually working in the mine when it was open. Absolutely fantastic. Come an hour before your tour so you can soak up the view and eat in the cafe. The food was excellent and the view from inside the cafe is hard to beat. The tour itself was brilliant and the tour guide was great craic and very knowledgeable.

Fascinating. The guide brought us into the actual place that was once a main source of coal for generating electricity and contributing to the national grid. Through the smaller paths of the mine, you will see a slight fraction of the story of what our human civilization has come from. The pursuit of an energy source and how it transforms the life of the community.
As the space inside the inner part of the mine can be limited, if you are a big group (10+) maybe it's a good idea to call the museum and arrange.

Outstanding tourism experience. Knowledgeable guides and actual staff with experience of the mining times. Gerard is a wealth of knowledge and information, along with being hilarious. Tour itself is fascinating, going underground allows for a real understanding of the times. Well worth a visit.

Great little place to hear about the mining experience and workings of a drift mine. Micheal was the guide and he was very knowledgeable about the mine (he used to work there) and will answer questions if you have any. Not too pricey, lovely little gift shop and restaurant but don't go Friday if you want hot food, it's the chefs day off, Fabulous views from outside the mine and the valley is stunning.
Vast, lush nature area with meadows, walking paths, picnic grounds and a 12th-century abbey ruins.
Lovely walks around lough derg. 👌🏞🏕 👍 beautiful surroundings. Lovely cafe with stunning views unfortunately Food in the cafe is not great at all. Maybe bring a picnic 😵👀 apart from that highly recommended to visit.

Wonderful place to visit for the entire family especially if your pooch enjoys walking or you could take your bikes and have a lovely long cycle with your kids in safety and away from traffic. The Shannon cruisers Dock there too from further afield. Amazing walks, beautiful scenery. Great amenities too. Luckily Zipit is there too if you enjoy swinging through the trees at height😉
Plenty of parking but it costs €4 for the entire day which is very cheap.

Such a nice place to spend the day with the family,it has plenty of space to walk around and enjoy the view of the lake.
There is a visitor center that offers many things to do and of course has some food and drinks. There is also a self guided tour through the tunnels and on the view tower, will cost you 10 euros for an adult. I would say it is a bit too much for what you see, but for one time it is not that bad. Plus your tour ends of walking over the forest, on the bridge around the tree tops, so that kinda makes it worth it.
But you don't have to pay anything if you just want to spend the day close to nature. Parking will cost you 4 euros for the day, but if you spend more than 20 euros in the visitor center then it is free.
All overall recommended spot.
Enjoy.

I had a fabulous day on a bike trail in Lough Key Forest Park. I hired my electric bike at Electric Bike Trails in the Activity area. I got a great day for it & planned to go back the next day but it was pelting rain all day. The guy picked the perfect bike size for me and adjusted the saddle. He gave me a helmet and told me how to navigate the forest trail. It's really good value for money. I can't recommend it highly enough.
The cafe in the Activity Area I was a bit disappointed with. It's just badly managed. It probably works really well when it's very busy but in the quiet times it's a bit of an unnecessary extra job for the customer. First you have to find a table & take a note of the number. You then have to walk through a cordoned area to see the menu to go back on yourself to place your order, take your cutlery & napkins and they didn't get the order right after all that. I think it was great expectations and mediocre service at best.
Rosses Point is a locality in County Sligo, Ireland and also the moniker of the adjacent headland. Positioned at the inlet to Sligo Harbour from Sligo Bay, Rosses Point boasts Oyster Island as its slender elongated feature.
Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery is the largest megalithic cemetery in Ireland and one of the biggest stone age cemeteries in Europe, boasting about 60 monuments such as dolmens, passage tombs, and stone circles that adorn its rolling hills. A fantastic collection of old tombs from the Neolithic Era.
This is the oldest of the four large Neolithic cemeteries in Ireland. There are a collection of stone circle tombs. They can be accessed via a visitor centre. The price is five euro entry for an adult and the tour is self-guided. The complex is the oldest and the simplest of the four, and the tombs are not as structurally impressive as Newgrange or Knowth. But the place has a great charm, and the setting is very beautiful, with Benbulbin and Knocknarea visible from the tombs. Well worth a visit for anyone interested in Stone Age history.

Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery in County Sligo is considered one of the “big four” sites of megalithic sites in Ireland, together with Carrowkeel, Loughcrew Cairns and Brú na Bóinne. Carrowmore is the largest megalithic burial ground in Ireland.
There are several stone circles on the side of the road opposite the visitor center. The large passage tombs, several dolmens and stone circles are on the same side as the visitor center. The top of the large passage is missing so that visitors can see the ground plan of the tomb. Unfortunately, ugly chicken wire is used to hold the stones in place.

A pretty cool spot with some great history. The employees were awesome. We arrived at the site looking forward to it, but saw a sign that only cash was accepted. Given that we are from the US and only recently arrived in Ireland from the UK we hadn't yet exchanged our GBP for Euros. The employee allowed us in for free, but I did provide a tip of 10 pounds. The employee would not allow me to leave more.

Great place to visit. The staff were really helpful and answered all our questions. On entrance, you are given a map with a self guided tour on it and the staff explain how to use it. The map is handed in at the end to be re-used which is just excellent.
The tombs are all outside and there is a path to follow.
The little information centre is very helpful to place the tombs in context but it would have been good to see a few of the artefacts that were unearthed here (they are in the museum of archeology in Dublin).
Not dog friendly.

Very informative guides, lovely atmosphere, well worth the visit
Kriszta Gyalai — Google review
Boyle Abbey, this Cistercian monastery was founded in the twelfth century by monks from Mellifont Abbey under the patronage of the local ruling family, the MacDermotts. It was one of the most powerful of the early Cistercian foundations in Ireland and among the foremost in Connacht.
Cromwellian forces wreaked devastation when they occupied the abbey in 1659. It was further mutilated during the following centuries, when it was used to accommodate a military garrison. Despite all the violence it has suffered over the centuries, Boyle Abbey is well preserved and retains its ability to impress.
A sixteenth/seventeenth-century gatehouse has been restored and turned into an interpretive centre, where you can learn more about the abbey’s gripping history. Highly recommend to get a tour guide that can explain the true history of the Boyle Abbey.

Cash only no contactless payment here. I must have passed Boyle Abbey 100 times but decided today would be the day we would stop and have a look. It is run by the OPW and as expected everything is kept in pristine condition. It’s €5 for an adult and free for under 12’s. A very kind gentleman gave us a brief overview about the Abbey then gave us a map and relevant information. It is reckoned the abbey was started around 1161 and was remodelled several times and was even a military barracks in Elizabethan times. It’s a very quick walk around and it’s worth time reading the information on the handout otherwise you will not have a clue what your looking at. Serious history here expertly restored in places. Worth a quick visit.

A nice place to see. There is parking on the roadside. Be aware at the moment they only take cash as they don't have a card machine( an investment in a Sumup machine would be great here). The staff member was really friendly and gave us a visitor guide which was very interesting to read as we walked around, to think the building of the Abbey started in 1161. It's a great spot for a few pictures, doesn't take long to look around but there is no time limit.

It is believed to be the burial place of legendary Queen Maeve, and despite speculation about a buried tomb on par with Newgrange's scale, the 40,000 tonnes of stone have never been excavated.
Nice and easy walk.
Easy for kiddos too.
I done it with 2 Czechoslovakian wolfdogs 🐺🐺 and they really enjoyed this hike. Excellent paths done, really finger 👍.
My recommendation to everyone 👌👌👌💪💪💪

Very well marked hike, steep at front and beautiful views across the Sligo, Donegal and even Mayo bay. Please don't walk on top of the Cairn, you still see people doing it despite the signs

A strenuous walk. I parked the car in Sligo rugby football club (a honest box is kept). Ver well maintained trail, and the steps were stepper. Plenty of benches along the trail to take rest. The trail leads to Queen Maeve's cairn. An absolutely gorgeous 360° view from the summit. Spent nearly 4 hours. After walk went to Strandhill beach and enjoyed the rest of evening. Perfect for a day trip with family.

It's very nice place for hiking. Wear suitable boots. We can see the beauty of Ireland's nice beaches from the top. At once side of mountain, you can experience the jungle ambience.

We were half way up then came across a sign that said "No Dogs Allowed" (would have been nice to know before leaving the carpark). Like others in the same predicament we proceeded with our dogs leashed. The views were amazing. Despite the sign to not climb on the tombs, there were lots of youths running up and down the tomb.

I've done this walk a few times. However, this time a bit differently with the newly added path around the Sligo side of the mountain.
I recommend starting at the Sligo side car park and going up to the top and back down the Strandhill side through the forest. Then take the loop around back to the car park. This may be best for those, like me, who aren't very fit. I had my legs under me for the strenuous bit with loose rock and the loop is pretty easy on tired legs. Starting on Strandhill side, up and over, then around would be the same.
It took me about two hours with lots of stops for photos.
There is a nice little crepe and snack cart in the car park but not open all the time.

Nice hicking. Good for groups and families. Nice wonderful view. Excellent spot for photographers. Good exercise. It would take 3 hours approx. Car parking and coffee placed are available. Don't miss stand and read about sacred spot of Meabh's cairn. You can not stand on or climb or take stone from there. If you want to see a photo of this place from above, I have some drony photos of there.

This was one of my favourite places to climb, the views were just fantastic. It's not a difficult climb I brought my 3 year old son and he loved it.

Medium to tough walk uphill on a board walk but definitely worth it for the pagan grave site on the top and gorgeous views of Sligo beaches
Strandhill Beach is a stunning destination on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. The beach offers panoramic views of Benbulben Mountain and is a popular spot for surfing and golfing. The energetic village of Strandhill boasts bustling cafes and eateries, making it a lively place to visit. Additionally, visitors can indulge in hot water seaweed therapies at Voya Seaweed baths.
Lovely beach/ costal village on the west coast near Sligo. Loads of places to eat, drink and get an ice cream.
Beach is very rocky but further down you have the massive sand dunes.
Also a good surfing spot

Beautiful Beach and place for food and shops. Parking can be tough but there is plenty of parking areas. Evening time has plenty of space to park. For food or Icecream/sweets I'd recommend Mammy Johnston's and the Strand Bar.

Good place for walking. There you can breathe the fresh air near the ocean and enjoy the incredible view. If you want something to eat this place has several cafes/restaurants. Delicious ice cream at the cafe on the corner

This is a lovely beach. Great for surfing but no swimming. In the summer it gets extremely busy and parking nearby can be difficult.

Strandhill beach is lovely, loads of places the eat and drink, a big carpark in the village and some parking on the seafront but it can be very hard to get parked here even on a slightly sunny day. There is no swimming at this beach because of the strong undercurrents but you will see people out surfing. There is a caravan park near the beach, a church, pharmacy and shops in the village and on a Sunday you will find the Strandhill Market on down at the airport. Strandhill beach is lovely to visit at different times off the year. My pictures range from different seasons and times off day.

Beautiful beach. Lovely place to visit and take a stroll. We went in the middle of winter and it was quite busy so I can only imagine what it would be like in summer. Plenty of parking available but get there early as it fills up rapidly.
