The Folies Corfu Hotel Apartments offers guests a laid-back oasis in the heart of the city. With gardens and a seasonal outdoor pool, guests can spend relaxing moments in tranquil surroundings. The apartments are based on traditional Corfiot architecture and offer stylish and comfortable accommodation.
I recently stayed at Folies Hotel in Corfu and I must say, it was a truly fantastic experience. The rooms were incredibly spacious, clean and comfortable, making me feel right at home. The owners were also incredibly kind and accommodating, always willing to help and offer recommendations. But perhaps my favorite part was the beautiful pool - the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun. Overall, I highly recommend Folies Hotel and can't wait to return!

Lovely enclosed resort with access to a pool. Bar is open from 9-5, and rooms were spacious and well presented

We stayed in the hotel for 7 nights. We were lucky to be in the new part of the buildings, which were really nice, with a terrace, spacious room. and view on the small pond. The room service cleaned our apartment every 2 days, including the change of towels and blankets. The position of the hotel was good for visiting other locations and beaches, as there were enough car parks available. The garden was well maintained :)
However, there are some things which could be improved:
- The service at the reception could be a bit more informative about what to visit.
- The kitchen appliance is missing, like an oven, toaster and spoon for cooking.
- The pool itself was not clean enough and some spotlights are literally digging in the pool (see pictures). The sunbeds were mainly broken or in a bad state. The pool towels which were promised on the booking platform were not provided.
- It was cool, that the hotel had a bar service but the prices were too high and it closed too early, since there were not so many bars in the surroundings.
All in all we enjoyed our stay there and hope that the staff will work on our suggestions! :)

So so. Good enough to have a place to lay your head down but is not close to anything, if you are walking. I booked one night here to visit Old Town and had a flight out in the morning. Neither are close. It was 10€ to Old Town and 15€ to the airport by taxi (5 min rides) but are difficult to get for short distances in Corfu. The hotel staff were helpful but the hospitality felt sterile. Imagine interacting with an airline customer service agent. Nothing memorable to write home about.

The service was great, everyone was kind, but the rooms were really cold and dimly lit. The heaters in our rooms didn't work. We asked for help, and they sent someone who tried to fix it, but it was still cold. They gave us a key to a different room, but that room's heat also didn't work well. In addition, We had 3 minutes of hot water in the shower. Afterwards, anyone who wanted to shower had to use lukewarm water.
We chose to stay there because of its adjacency to the ferry in the morning to mainland Greece and the cheap price, but we probably would not go back due to the heating problem.

Good stay for family but a bit off the city.
The rooms are comfortable with a kitchen (we have not tried it), and the pool is very enjoyable (the bar is overpriced, 6€ for 2 untasty coffees, I would recommend having breakfast elsewhere).
Service is poor, the bathroom was dirty with stains on the WC, when we reported it to staff they did not apologize. No help with luggage was offered when we were shown the room.

Nice hotel with pool and very clean interior. The room was with some minor problems, smoke smell, broken door, no kitchen towel. More major problem was that the sofa bed in the living room was broken, the boards kept falling out. In the end disappointing

Caution! Don't book!!
UPDATE:
Why the staff in your review reply are trying to portray you as a liar should put you off booking!
There are witnesses to the whole incident, the ID was not forgotten. The guests' passports are systematically retained.
It's really sad how you're dealing with being busted instead of just apologizing and handing over the passport! But no, they lie, yell on the phone and threaten me to delete the review immediately. All this is very striking and sad.
Your hotel is highly unprofessional, dangerous and steals data! Plus don't forget the countless bugs in your rooms.
If you want to have a nice and above all safe time in Corfu, you should avoid this hotel!
Frist Review:
The staff will confiscate your passport at check-in (which is illegal). The Passport never be forgotten by us! We announced our check-out again the night before, but the reception was unmanned in the morning. The passport was not issued! Now the hotel does not want to send the passport and illegally keep it! Absolutely not trustworthy!
it cannot be ruled out that the personal sensitive data will be misused by the hotel.
Otherwise they would simply forward them accordingly!

Hotel not recommended! Arriving on August 9, 2023, I immediately noticed some inefficiencies in the toilets. Specifically (as documented by the attached photos) absence of glass in the shower cubicle, defect of the shower head and floor drain completely raised and easily movable. I immediately requested a change of apartment but it was not granted to me and so I requested immediately and also in the following days the resolution of the problems exposed but they did not proceed. These problems caused, during the shower, water to leak from the shower itself and from the floor drain; water that inevitably settled all over the bathroom floor. In addition, the cleaning of the apartment did not take place regularly every day but only after urging the staff. On August 16, 2023, leaving the facility, I spoke to one of the managers asking for a small refund for the inefficiencies, I waited for a response from them for days, contacting them several times on the phone but to no avail. At this point I reported everything to the booking customer service and through them I learned that my refund request had been refused. Shame!
I respond to your comment, adding the following to my review:
Do you dare to answer like this? Who do you think you're kidding? You have not solved any problem, as shown by the attached photos, taken in the days following our arrival; if I had been satisfied at the end of my stay I certainly would not have asked your manager Petros for a refund for the inefficiencies. At least have the decency not to make fun of tourists with these answers.

I don’t recommend the hotel. The room was nice, but there was a problem with toilette and there was a stinky smell coming out from it. I asked to do something about it and the staff didn’t react. It’s a lot of noise from the airport, but that okay. It’s nearby. I asked for check out 1 hour later and I was told not possible. Although the hotel is not fully booked and it’s end of the season. I won’t come back.

This hotel is beautiful. A nice pool, the staff are just so friendly and kind, accommodating! I actually booked 1 night here last minute to escape an awful hotel I had been staying in. Check in for Folies is usually 3pm but they so kindly check us in at 12pm. The bar wasn’t open but it is early May not quite in season. The room was modern, clean, comfortable and just perfect! Truly grateful to have found this hotel after a few days of unpleasant stays elsewhere. Would 100% recommend this place.

DO NOT BOOK HERE.
Update: When the staff in your review reply are trying to portray you as a liar should put you off booking!
Unprofessional.
I booked for 3 nights at this hotel. To sum up: terrible it was a nightmare. We had several problem in a more than antique room. No solution from the reception. Moreover and the worst, they are allegedly lying to us saying that they are going to change the room and when we arrive it’s not possible anymore. The “manager” said that we can have a refund when we ask for the refund they said “we are going to call the police”. They went that far to call the police on us when we are 3 girls just asking to be treated with respect and according to the money we pay. We also in defense had to call the police because they dragged us outside of the hotel and we were treated so badly, I have never experience that in my life. Do not come here because you’ll be treating really badly and they are so many nice people in the island of Corfu but not at Folies.
Bad services: terrible room not look like the pictures. The AC working bad and water on the floor. Room smell humidity and mod. Kitchen dirty and so ancient. WC not flushing. A lot of insects in the room. WIFI not working not even 4g. The pool is dirty. The toilets of the pool are dirty. The sun beds are all broken.

We stayed there for 2 weeks. The rooms, whole settlement and the people are very nice. The bar/cafe is not good enough when compared to the other nice stuff. We rented a car and visited beaches all around, which was easy considering the location of the hotel. You can stay there without hesitation. Ps: you need to do sth about that rooster, it is not ok to yell at 5 am every time :)

We stayed in one of the apartments the first 3 nights. They are super old and in need of tlc!
Lots of ants, shower didnt have a rail, aircon leaking etc.
We moved to one of the new rooms for last 3 nights. This was because the same apartment wasnt available the entire stay the studio was much better! Nice, clean modern. Although there was construction work out back making a noise from 8/9am. It sounded like they were in the room it was do bad! Not great ...
The apartments are outside old town but we found the public buses reliable ( although the seem to move to hourly later in day). Its not easy to get to the nicer beaches via public transport so to stay here you probably need a car or just stay near the other beaches. It is close to the airport though which is a bonus. Limited restaurants near by but there are supermarkets and bakery
Has a pool - nothing fancy! No umbrellas to shade from sun and lots of broken loungers. Pool bar defo wasnt 24/7, served limited food and the guy manning it was miserable.
Katie Cockburn — Google review
Very nice and clean apartment. Well designed with 2 balconies. The territory and the pool are inundated with green, flowers, trees and grass. 🌸 There is a bar next to the pool were you can order drinks and food. 🌅 The position of the hotel is 10 min in bus from old town. 1,5 km from bus station, 2 km from airport, but…. There is only a bus line that deserves that area. Buses 1 in an hour. ‼️ Very difficult to go to the airport or bus station. You should always call a taxi!

One of the most underrated Greek Islands, beaches that will take your breath away that are easily accessible. Lots of cats everywhere, live greek music in taverns, amazing traditional greek food.
Prices are reasonable in most places. A set of 2 sunbeds and an umbrella will cost you from 7-40 euros depending on the beach you go to and that is the price usually for consumation you dont pay for the sunbeds themselves but instead for the drinks and foods you order.
Coffees go from 2.5 to 5 euro depending on what you want to drink
Soft drinks 3-4e
Beer 4-6e
Cocktails about 9e
Gyros pita will cost you 4e in snack bars and about 6e on the beach.
The best way to experience this island is to rent something!! My suggestion is that you should rent a 125cc scooter cause it has enough power and you can park it anywhere ( parking for cars can get very crowded)
A scooter will cost you from 20-40e
A car will cost you 40e but if you take it for 3 days they will give you a discount to 100e
An ATV will cost from 35 to 80e for the better new ones
I suggest that you must visit
Paradise beach
Psili ammos
Trippiti beach
Golden beach
Have a nice trip!

Baia dei Turchi is a secluded tourist beach located in the town of Otranto, Puglia. The area is known for its pristine white buildings and full amenities, including family-run delis serving up spicy focaccia. While Otranto's main sandy drag may be popular among visitors, those seeking a more peaceful experience can venture a few kilometers north towards Casino dei Turchi.
After a twenty minutes walk on a wild woods path, you arrive to this dreamy bay. There's not much people, the sand is white and silky, the water is crystal aquamarine and in some points light blue and emerald green. The bay is long and allows to take walks on the beach. I have travelled a lot but I can assure you I have never been in a place in which sea water and the sand are so paradisiacal.

Amazing beach!
Be careful though: they will tell you that there is no parking by the beach to force you to pay 5€ and take their shuttle but off season, you can easily come and park for free in the pinewood where the shuttle drops you.

I went in September 2023 and there is three car parks. There is a FREE one that is the closest to the beach.
The first car park you see has car park attendants demanding you to stop for parking and cost 5 euros. Ignore them and turn left into the road directing you to the beach.
The second car park has a charge for 3 euros. Also ignore as you can continue along the paved road.
The third and last car park is FREE and fits about 50 cars and is untimed. Check out that car park first and if no spots then turn back to the other car parks.
Note the walk if you stop at the first car park is at least 20 minutes until the beach which is crazy. So get to the free and closest car park
The beach has soft sand, and water is nice. Nice for a day lying down to relax

Pros: beautiful beach, fine sand and shallow water (good for children). Cons: expensive parking (5-7€), long walk through the pine forrest (depending on where you park, it can be 200m to 1000m). The closest to the beach parking is not open before 8am so if you’re an early riser, manage accordingly.

Truly stunning, water was amazing, clear, aqua blue, warm and the sand so soft. It did take a little bit of a 15 minute walk to get there though. As we parked at the beginning of a road, then had to walk about 1 km to reach it through road, bush and finally down the small cliff face. All worth it and didn’t get out of the water for an hour it was that good.

Great beach, though overpriced seats if you come for a couple hours, 30 euros for 2 seats. No shower, no real toilet, only portable stuff because it's super remote.
The beach is like a dream. Sand, clean, super safe, starts with a bath and then you can swim pretty far. Waves very mellow with southern wind.

Lovely sandy beach split naturally into small coves by the curved rocks. There’s a car park just 5 mins walk away through the woods for €5 a day. Not much down there in terms of facilities or refreshments so best to come prepared. Water is shallow a fairly long way out - great for swimming

Beautiful beach! We stopped by in July 2023 and it was very hot this day so there were quite a lot of people on the beach. Renting a parasol and two sunbeds was 30 € but essential as the sun was strong. The sand gets super hot so make sure to bring sandals or similar. The sand was great quality and the water was very clear with gentle waves when we visited.

First of all, you need to walk around 1 km to the beach from the parking. But every step is totally worth it. There are some guys who are asking 5 to 7 Euros for parking... We were just parking next to the road just like the locals. We asked some Italians and they said it is okay ... So I guess you can safe that money for the parking. The beach itself is really nice the water is clear. We went in the evening so it was not that crowded. I think with sunshine and on the weekends it might get crowded. I think the sunrise could be very nice there

The historic center of Otranto, named Centro Storico, showcases the impressive 11th-century Cattedrale di Santa Maria Annunziata. This cathedral boasts a Chapel of the Martyrs and an exquisite medieval mosaic floor. The military architecture during the 15th century is represented by the Aragonese Castle in this area. Additionally, visitors can find frescoes that showcase Apulian Byzantine art inside the Church of San Pietro.
The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Annunziata, located in Otranto, Italy, is a unique 11th-century cathedral that boasts elaborate floor mosaics and an underground crypt containing the remains of martyrs. Constructed by the Normans, it incorporates elements of Romanesque, Byzantine and early Christian styles with their own. The cathedral has undergone various renovations over time but still retains its original charm.
Amazing mosaics which are surprisingly well-preserved even though these are still accessible to the public. The ceilings are also a sight to see. Rich in history and detail - made me wish there were more descriptions about the different features of the Cathedràl. Definitely worth the trip to Otranto 👍

Throughout our week Puglia tour we saw dozens of beautiful Churches, but this one counts in top 3.
It's set in the center of old town Otranto dating back to 11c.
A rather simple stone facade hides amazing Tree of Life mosaic spread over the entire Church floor.
Another Church highlight is the beautiful wood carved ceiling, as well the skulls and bones Chapel of the Martyrs.
After paying hefty entry fees in Lecce Churches, I was pleasantly surprised entry here is free

Here is a place where you can see how ages ago people learned of the Bible. The mosaics told the story of the tree of life and the division of Heaven and Hell.
Having survived the conversion to a Mosque and back most of the frescoes were destroyed... butfor some reason they left the images of Mary... and a few of Christ on the cross.

The Cattedrale di Otranto combines a Byzantine and Romanesque style. It was built by the Normans. Nearly 800 civilians and clerics were killed by the Turks who had besieged the town. Their bones are arranged inside the chapel. There are impressive frescoes and mosaics. In the basement, there is the crypt with plenty of columns with different styles of capitals and materials. A priest who met spoke Grico!

A must-see monument in Otranto, originally dating from the 9th century when Otranto was a hellenic town and part of the East Roman empire ruled over by the Roman emperor in Constantinople/Byzantium/modern Istanbul. The basilica, seat of the bishop of Otranto, is laid out in the Roman basilica style with one center and two lower side naves. The flat wooden ceiling over the center nave is ornately decorated. A marvelous mosaic covers the entire church floor. There is also a crypt below the main church.

If you want to experience all the crazy flowers that faith and religion brings with it in their purest form, you should go to the cathedral of Ortranto. You can see the influences from occitania, which today are portrayed as esoteric and superstitious. You can see the blood that was shed in the form of hundreds of thousands of skulls below in the crypt and you can smell the Catholic stench everywhere.
The Lëkursi Castle and Restaurant is a historic site that boasts impressive circular towers, breathtaking panoramic vistas, and an expansive dining area. Visitors can enjoy the stunning decor and magnificent views while savoring delicious dishes from the restaurant's menu. While touring the castle, guests can also stop by the open eatery to grab some iced coffee for around 200 lek. It's a picturesque destination that offers both cultural intrigue and culinary delights.
We walked up from Sarande and we’re very glad that we did (although a bit of a hike, so may recommend driving if with small children etc.) The views are definitely worth it and although we didn’t stop for food/drink, the restaurant also looked lovely. You can get a 360 view of Corfu/Sarande and the valleys/coast - great for photos.

This place was amazing to visit. My partner and I got a taxi from town and the driver waited for us for 40 minutes and then drove us back into town. This cost us 20€ which was a great price to us.
The view is like nothing else. It's free to enter and look around, and there's a bar inside. They did food, but we only got coffees -- I had an iced latte while my partner had an iced cappucino. Had to wait a while because the machine had only just been turned on, but wasn't a problem as we just sat in the sun admiring the view. The only downside was that they only took cash and no card, and since we were visiting while on holiday in Corfu, we only had euros with us. This would have been more problematic had we bought a full meal, but luckily we only needed a small amount of cash for the coffees and they accepted euros. Deducting one star due to this as it was inconvenient. There's plenty of seating and the place was deserted except us and a couple doing a wedding photoshoot.
Would strongly recommend.

It was supposed to be a historical place, but it is modified completely in a restaurant. However, I went there in closing time so I cannot rate the dishes and services. Anyway, my 1 star is due to the monkey left alone in a cage. In Albania, I do not know if keeping wild tropical animal is allowed
alessia mongelli — Google review
Spectacular place at all times of day but best at sunsets. The 360 is just breathtaking from the mountain range north to the valley in the east the lagoon to the south and the sea and Corfu to the west. Its a small castle that has pretty much been turned into a restraunt. But you can also just get a drink and just enjoy the view.
The main way up via road is tarmacadam most of the way, but pity there is no obvious footpath up the western side.
Free entry too

We went at the start of May before the season started which luckily meant that the place when we visited was quiet. The castle offers an absolutely amazing view of Saranda. Highly recommended. I would have loved to have come at sunset. The entry is free. The road up there is steep and windy so I would recommend a car.

Quiet in the winter months but it's free which is a pleasant bonus. It's a nice walk up a narrow road off the main road. Plenty of parking places if you go by car. Some lovely views from the castle and there's a lighthouse on the way up and some old bunkers.

Nice view over the city. At evening there is a lot of people looking sunset and it's a nice place for it.
But please arrange proper cage for the monkey. It's heart breaking to see how does he/she live right now.

Beautiful sunset. We came off peak, so the quiet peaceful feeling is heavenly. Cool breezes yet it warms our hearts inside. Unforgettable.
Caspere — Google review
Great place to visit and have Saranda in the background with a glass of wine. Was nice to see traditional dancers and live music.
Unfortunately, the prices that they charge for the food quality need to improve. Most of our pasta and risoto dishes were overcooked. The raw seafood is not that fresh. At night, the high volume of the music doesn't let you enjoy the view or have a normal conversation with your companions.
The place also doesn't accept credit cards, only cash!
Gjergj Tr — Google review
A beautiful view of the city and the sunset is the perfect moment to visit it.
If you would also do something special you can stay at the restaurant, but I personally wouldn't because of the high prices, down there like 2 minutes there is a restaurant much more convenient with good food.
Federico — Google review
The two stars is completely for the beauty of the place. However, the restaurant wasn’t operating even though it was during the working hours posted online. Service was nonexistent, actually one customer thought I was an employee because there literally wasn’t any one else in there but me… I would have loved to actually try the food. Unfortunately, they didn’t even have the chef in the restaurant.
Anyhow, the restaurant itself is beautiful and the views are amazing.

The restaurant wasn’t open when we came, but the view was amazing! Also lots of these small bunkers around, so pretty interning to see and also very good as a photo spot

A narrow but asphalt road leads to the top, there are several large parking lots along the way. You can easily cross it on foot. There is a beautiful castle at the top with an even more beautiful view. I recommend every vacationer visiting Sarande to pass this facility.

Amazing spot for sunset views and a nice dinner. We were surprised with how many tables there were, it’s a big terrace! We had the Lekuresit pasta and a sea fish dish. The prices are on the higher end compared to other Albanian restaurants. The only downside is that many people stay around the castle for pictures instead of eating, but the terrain is big enough with many different beautiful spots!

Absolutely the best place to visit in Sarandë and it's free! The castle itself is beautiful and romantic with absolutely stunning panoramic views. It would be nice to have a little information about the castle available.

A stunning location to eat and watch the sunset over the city. When I visited it was still spring, so no one was dining outside as it was chilly. I imagine this place is bustling over the summer months! We got some tea to take out of the restaurant, the guy working was v helpful. Can’t comment on the food as we didn’t eat.

I'll never travel to Istanbul without this trip planner again
The Castle of Gjirokastra is a renowned landmark that overlooks the city and features military exhibits, a clock tower and a church. It has been in existence since the 12th century, with much of its current state dating back to the early 19th century. The castle was used as a prison during communist rule and is now open to visitors for an entrance fee of 200 Lek.
Great place to visit. Definitely worth checking out when you’re in the city. Adult ticket is 400Lek and another 200Lek for entering the museum itself. Gets busy during the day so choose the early hours.
Lots of descriptions, everything in English as well.
Well equipped and after full restoration will be even nicer.
Attila D?ri — Google review
Coming from this USA, this castle was pretty cool to see considering one of our planes from the cold War is there. You get to read about the history and see all of the views this castle had to offer plus the cannons. There isn't much inside the castle to look at. More waking around and taking in the views.
Adrianna Tondi — Google review
It’s a nice well preserved castle, the tour takes easily an hour if you go slowly.
You have a very good 360 view of the city around but also the big mountains, the river, and the valley which is very nice !
It’s a bit crowded, we were surprised, there was a small 10-15 min queue even to get in.
PREPARE YOUR CASH: it’s 400 Lek per person for the entrance ! That’s a shame, as we travelled around the country and this is the first paid attraction we do!

Must visit if you are in Albania
The views are amazing like right out of a postcard specially when the sky is clear and sunny!
The castle will take you back in time and even if you aren’t a history enthusiast you would be fascinated by reading some of the stories thats mentioned around the castle. We took our time checking out each and every corner which took us around hour and a half approx.
The entry fee inside the castle was like 800 lek for 2 people which im guessing is a tourist price but didn’t mind it after we got to see some spectacular views on a nice sunny day. We didn’t go inside the museum though which i guess would be charged extra.
But overall worth going here and then there is this picturesque old town right down the castle few steps away which is like the star of our trip till now.
Suchandra Sarkar — Google review
Not a lot to do here, a lot of it was under construction. Lovely view from the top. Lots of cannons to see. Good way to waste an hour and a half max. Very cheap to enter. Toilet facilities are a bit rustic.
Bels Overton — Google review
A huge castle to explore, full of cold war cannons, tanks and an abandoned US fighter jet. Well worth the steep approach! Allow about an hour to take in the views and read about the history while visiting the worthwhile museum. Definitely the highlight of this brilliant little town!
Mike Ellis — Google review
We had a wonderful experience visiting the castle! The location is truly beautiful and impressive. The ticket price of 4 euros per person is affordable, making the visit all the more enjoyable.
However, before we go, I want to warn you about the facilities available. Due to the fact that the location is dotted with cisterns, it is essential that you have a bottle of water with you that you can refill during your visit, especially as the location is vast and you will need water along the way.
Also note that before entering the Old Town, there is a paid underground parking lot to leave your car. Make sure you have valid coins or payment methods to avoid inconvenience.
Another important point to mention is that the location has no safety fences, which means you need to keep a close eye on children to avoid accidents.
All in all, the castle is definitely worth visiting due to its beauty and reasonable ticket price. Be prepared with water for the visit and make sure to look after the little ones. However, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time exploring this impressive location!

Typical place for tourists but no worries travelers......worth to pop in. The castle is amazing, well preserved....history went over this place and left a treasure here. Loads shops around to buy something typical and loads restaurants to relax and have something nice for your belly. View are amazing there. I m not fun of touristic spots but from time to time it s good to learn about people and their roots, what created them, their culture and habits. You ll see if you see this place.....will be definitely welcome.

Enjoyed the walk up to the castle and the entrance fee was 400ALL each, that however was only for the castle as there was another fee for the museum of Arms, which was 200ALL. We found this frustrating as we asked before paying what ticket we needed . They could just charge 600ALL as you cannot get into the museum without entering the castle.
The castle was very good lots of renovation work being carried out, it will be amazing once finished. Some information boards with English which was good.
The views were fantastic .

Few days ago, we were there and they are having the festival Floklorik and open accept the ONLINE ticket for entrance. It's a place full of history but I would love to have more explanation / history info with sign/panel. It's beautiful but I have no idea what's the each area/room for in the ottoman's time.
The Albania set up a great stage for the event which we met the performance people doing rehersal there, so cool!

There are a lot of interesting stories all around the castle from which you can learn new things

Most recently used during communist era of Albanian history to imprison and destroy, it is a somber, yet fascinating place with at least 1500 years of history layered in its foundations and walls. The view from the top of the walls is incredible. The outer arches which once contained the markets and displayed artisan wares spike the imagination. The sheer amount of stone in this enormous castle is mind blowing. Definitely worth the visit, the history, the views, the reflection and imagining.

The entrance fee is 4€/400leke, there is extra 2€/200leke if your want to enter the museum in the Castle (history of Castle - English describtion, Guns collection with history of the WW2 and the Communism prison - no English describtion).
The views from the Castle are astonishing (in the very positive way).

Amazing experience. It requires a good walk uphill to get there. However, there may be a better way to drive there for those with difficult mobility.
We paid 200 LEK each for entrance in September.
This is really cheap for the size of the place and how interesting it is.
It lacks some explanation around the history, and guided tours were not available. However, it was not an issue as the views and the information available made this visit one of the highlights of our trip.

This was a lovely castle with plenty to do, walking around, stories and beautiful scenery. It also is very inexpensive. Have to have their local money.
Casual beachfront hotel featuring airy accommodations, plus 2 open-air restaurants with bars.
Stayed for 2 night's in October, end of season and quiet which worked well for us, staff were lovely and helpful. Lovely Hotel with amazing views of the beach, booked and paid for a sea view room with a balcony. Room was clean, shower quite low down and had to hold to use. Lots of sun loungers around the pool and beach. Lovely breakfast included with an omlette bar. 10 min walk to Praga along the beach but up a steep hill with steps. Ate in restaurant and food was fine. Had a great stay here.

I would like to draw attention to the ''chair manager - Νικος'' on the beach , to work on communication and improve it. Each guest is important and should be respected.
Namely, I had a really bad situation in which the ''chair manager'' was very rude to me.
I wanted to move to chairs that were closer to the sea, after one family left and they were empty. He showed up behind my back, I didn’t even understand he was a worker there and he just told me ,,this is busy now!'' Without any Hello or some introduction/explanation.
I asked why? He boldly replied - ,,Because I'm the manager here and I can do whatever I want!"
Additionaly, we left €20 even if we didn't spend that money on drinks because our bill didn't amount that much but as a cultural guest I followed the bar rule.
By the way our chairs was in the 3rd row. If your policy is not to accept guests who are not from the hotel or you have some rules, inform everyone nicely, with cultural behavior.
Really really bad for the beach bar imagine!
Thanks

One little minus: I can live perfectly whitout wifi, but if You provide it in the room, than it has to work. No wifi is less anoying than bad wifi. But hey, we are on holiday, so we did not bother and went to the perfect beach of the hotel (were the wifi is working excellent)
Kathisma Beach, situated on the west coast of Lefkada, is a well-organized beach that draws crowds due to its white sandy stretch and turquoise waters. The area offers various amenities such as restaurants, cafes and bars, sun-beds and umbrellas. Additionally, visitors can indulge in thrilling activities like paragliding from the mountainside of Kathisma Beach. This family-friendly location is also popular among couples for its beautiful sunsets surrounded by stunning cliffs.
Absolutely stunning place! The turquoise water is simply beautiful! At has pebbles but they’re kind of on the smaller side so it’s still possible to walk without water shoes. When we visited the waves were big and it wasn’t possible to get in the water to swim. Kids enjoyed it on the shore and still had plenty of fun and absolutely loved it. Parking was free but sunbeds were 10 euros for 2 sunbeds and umbrella.

Magic colours. One of the Best beaches in Greece without a dought. 4 star due to the huge waves though. You can't enjoy its waters. Pitty!

The beach with the most ammenities in Lefkada. Showers, toilets, bars, pools, clubs, restaurants, parking, easiest access. It can get very crowded and noisy (depending on the neighbours). Child friendly when the sea is calm, but when the waves start it becomes difficult even for the adults. We stayed at Soul, €20 pair of chairs and umbrella (very comfortable and new), parking in the shade included for customers. You can bring your own drinks, or order from them.
If you want to bring your umbrellas you have more room and privacy in the left corner of the beach, where is also the best food on the beach, at Akrogiali restaurant.
The water shoes are recommended, but it's also bearable if you forget them.

Stunning beach! A lot of parking place (5 euro per day). But make sure you come in the early morning like 7 AM. The water will be warm and the beach will be empty. Around 10-11 AM the beach get busier and busier and becomes VERY CROWDED.

This was in my opinion the best beach we have been in Lefkada in our trip. It has quite easy access and big free parking. The beach is big, wide and even if a lot of people, they spread in the area. The water is crystal clear. It had big wave when we have been and is getting quite deep fast. On top you have plenty of Restaurants.

this is the beach that is the hardest to get to, it is rich in contents on the beach from paragliding to bars and restaurants. the possibility of renting sunbeds. the price of two sunbeds with an umbrella, water and a towel are included somewhere. somewhere not, they ranged from 10-25E. it depends on the location and the choice itself. it is easy to enter the sea. there are countless parking lots, some covered and in the shade, some not. prices were from 5-10E for the whole day. if you have children, then this is the beach for you. because it's really easy to get to. the others are just as beautiful in their own way, but not as accessible as this one. because of this accessibility, this beach is the most crowded.

Amazing beach with spectacular turquoise coloured water. Small pebbles mostly.
Expect intense waves, which can be lots of fun if you like it.
Sunbeds and restaurants with service at the beach, some also with a pool.
Sunbeds 15-25 Euros [2 beds and a beach umbrella].
Paragliding opportunity.

Top top beach. We spend most of our vacation on Kathisma beach. You have it all, restaurants, showers, toilets, sunbeds, a lot of room for your towels. Beach is clean and water is superb.

The vigorous biting of the waves slowly grinds the rocks into coarse sand, maybe in another million years the process will grind it into fine sand. The sunset here is incredible, the lights and shades are almost surreal from a movie on a distant planet. Huges waves rock the swimmers in the late afternoon as the sun prepares to sleep. The water deepens fast but it's so much fun to float on those whales. Elegant restaurants await for the luxury seekers as well as the family man who wants a chow. Winding road leads to the parking right on the beach. Those unlucky to find it for free on the side of the road can pay 10 euros for shaded parking. On occasion ducking is recommended as paragliders land elegantly and with ease on free zones.

Very nice sandy-stone beach! It is easily accessible by car but parking might be a bit difficult, although not too hard. It is very easily accessible for anyone as the road is right next to the beach. The beach itself is very pretty, but usually very crowded. On my visit I did not experience any waves, so it was very peaceful, however if you find yourself here when it's windy I advise to stay out of the water. There are plenty of bars where one can go to get drinks or food (or use a bathroom). A very nice place to swim is near some rocks on the right side of the beach, where it is also usually quieter.

Very nice and climatic place. You need to walk around 10-15 minutes to reach the place from the parking place. There is a lot of people be aware. I had a plan to get into the water while being there, but when I reached the destination I decided not too. Swimming in deep pools of clear water among limestone rocks in a canyon with waterfalls.
It is interesting to see how the water has eroded and smoothed out the layered rocks that are characteristic of this whole region. It has shaped the stone to look like it is man made from concrete, but in a very artistic way. Combined with the colour of the water it makes it very pleasing to look at. It is an easy walk for the whole family to enjoy.

Ovires of Rogovo are natural pools in a narrow canyon about 1 km before the village of Mikro Papigo. We visited at the end of winter and it was empty. Lucky us. We wished we had swimwear to jump in the water but we settled for the amazing views and the beautiful surroundings as we went up the stream. It was slippery in some places so some proper shoes are needed. Avoid flip flops. Fantastic rock formations all the way.

A great place for cooling off in high summer (when I suspect it gets busy at times) but otherwise a bit lacklustre. What you get to see depends a great deal on when you go and how much water there is. The first pools you encounter are manmade - dams hold the water back to create bathing areas, but when the sluices are open the water is pretty shallow. Penetrate further along the stream into the cleft in the rock and it quickly becomes pretty with interesting vegetation growing out of the walls, but it is difficult to go far without walking in the stream itself, which varies from a trickle to a torrent.

A lot of fun - for free! The water is cold, but that makes it fun and refreshing. Try finding your way to some of the back pools, further from the crowd. It's exciting!

The drive there is EPIC both in beauty and adrenaline. Due to little rain the pools themselves were pretty,, yet less impressive than expected. The two villages are lovely and all in all we had a wonderful time. Stargazing recommended, saw quote a few shooting stara.

Series of waxwork dioramas created by sculptor Pavlos Vrellis & recreating events in Greek history.
This privately run museum was created by a single person, Pavlos Vrellis, who was passionate about Greek History. You will see several exceptionally made wax sculptures, representing several historical figures. The gruesome period before and after the Greek Independence War in 1821 is well represented.
While Greek people will be familiar with (most of) these personalities, there is very little background information in English. The tour guides will offer a few details, but it's a good idea to study the museum's comprehensive website before visiting.
Tickets cost 6 euros. Photography is explicitly not allowed, due to the grim nature of many of the exhibits.

I have been here twice and I'd come again. I would recommend this experience as an art piece and not as an accurate representation of history. It is a marvelous thing 💜 you can find all the photos in their site as photography inside is not allowed
Sasa Crezy — Google review
It is an extraordinary museum, and the sculptures are so realistic. My kids were so thrilled and especially with the Greek and Turkish War exhibition sculptures. What have these people suffered for our freedom.....
Its a MUST see when you go to Ioannina.
A big THANK YOU to Mr. Vrelli 🙏🙂
Dionisia Panagopoulou — Google review
The personages seems not so "real" and if you are "claustrophobic " its not a good idea to go here you are in the dark and it's cold and some personages move her eyes to look at you ... you don't feel so relax and you can not take photography and if you take the security gonna follow you on your back until the end like you have killed someone or like you have do the one abominable think it's stupid and crazy because in England you have the same thing and better with all the cinema star and you can take photos and touch the personages and it's seems more real it's stupid !
gabrielle fayt — Google review
A well built and impressively staged collection of wax models, inspired by the Greek history. The way the exhibits are presented is original and really gets the visitor in the right mood.
On the other hand, there were at least two things I considered negative. The first one, is the lack of a guided tour, which is up to a point understandable because of the narrow spaces, the existence of lots of stairs and the details given on tags for each exhibit. As a result, although missing, I would not say that a guided tour is "needed" at least for the majority of visitors.
The most important drawback, in my personal opinion, is the prohibition of taking photos in the museum, for no obvious reason. Furthermore, the visitor is not informed for the prohibition in advance (when buying the ticket) but at the museum entrance, after he has already paid for it.
The whole prohibition makes the experience less complete and certainly does not help spreading the experience publicly.
Having visited many museums globally, this prohibition seems to be a bad "habit" in Greek museums, for no obvious reason.

A really interesting wax museum à la Tussaud's, limited to excellent life-sized dioramas of scenes from greek history. The historical context may perplex non-greeks, however the artistic value of the scenes makes it worth a visit. Please mind the short uphill walk from the car park to the museum.

The picturesque St. Naum Monastery stands on a bluff overlooking the Albanian border and is a popular day trip destination from Ohrid. The monastery was founded by St. Naum (c.830-910), a disciple of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, and one of the seven Apostles of the First Bulgarian Empire.
As you walk towards the monastery, you will come across a beautiful water spring which feeds Lake Ohrid. Christal clear water with trouts swimming against the current. Monastery from 10th century in great condition with breathtaking view of the lake.

Don't order the lemonade in the restaurant, they brought it to me full of flies (pic included), which wasn't the best start to a meal I've had... the food was good, but I couldn't get away from the thought of the lack of hygiene, I was slightly confused as to if they didn't notice or didn't care, either is pretty awful... however our waiter was a lovely lovely man, and the place is obviously gorgeous.

The number one place to visit in Ohrid. The beauty and majesty of this special place is beyond words to describe. You must visit the Monastery of St. Naum to experience it. The drive with a car or taking a boat over, both options are scenic and gorgeous.
Few details: Breathtaking view on the lake, parking 50 denars, toilet 20den, lot of nice gift shops and jewelry, good restaurants (I recommend Ostrovo), boat toar 🛶 on the springs, green park, beach.

Beautiful monastery 😍 but beach is very dirty and there is no place to put your towels, there is only deckchair that you must pay 5-10€
I recommend taking a boat ride around the springs for 5€, it’s worth it

Great magical place! You can meet even peacocks in the area. This is the first monastery I’ve visited where I saw peacocks
Statue of St Naum is new from the real “alive” tree with roots inside.
You should visit all churches in area. It’s amazing to walk around through rivers, forest with dragonflies and singing of birds.

Beautiful old monastery dating back to the 10th century. It’s perfect for a whole summer day with the family and friends. Other than the monastery itself, walking the surrounding and gardens is really beautiful, offering great views of Ohrid lake. Additionally you have a nice beach so don’t forget to bring your bathing suit and picnic basket for a perfect day. There are many restaurants and booths selling touristy souvenirs if you care for that.
מומלץ מאד לבלות לפחות חצי יום באיזור כולל רחצה באגם ופיקניק על החוף. ממש יפה שם!

A beautiful monastery on the shore of lake Ohrid, in a calm area, not so far away from the city of Ohrid. The monastery was built around 893-900, when it was still part of the First Bulgarian Empire. It houses the rains of Saint Naum Ohridski, from where it derives the monastery's name. You can see some peacocks walking casually around, being used to human presence, which are great for pictures.

The Monastery of Saint Naum in Ohrid is a serene haven that effortlessly blends spirituality with natural beauty. Nestled along the shores of Lake Ohrid, its picturesque setting adds to the tranquil ambiance. The monastery's architecture, adorned with ancient frescoes, is a testament to historical richness. Whether you seek cultural immersion, spiritual reflection, or simply a moment of quiet by the water, Saint Naum's Monastery offers a captivating escape, making it a must-visit destination in the enchanting city of Ohrid.

Yeah, it’s a nice monastery but if you saw the one in Ohrid which in my opinion is in a much better setting with much less tourists you can skip this one. You can feel that everything there was made to make money of people gift shops, expensive restaurants, paid parking, boat trips, etc. A lot of people are all around the place.

I would give the beautiful springs that lead into the lake 5 stars. So clear water. In winter the lake can freeze and people can walk on it.
There are swans and other birds living in it.
Lovely scenery and reflections in the water.
The Holy Monastery Great Meteoron -Transfiguration of the Saviour, established in the 14th century, is the largest and most visited out of six active monasteries in Meteora. Perched on top of Broad Rock over 600 meters above sea level, it requires ascending 115 steps to reach. Despite being a popular stop for tour buses, it's recommended to visit early or late in the day due to crowds and limited parking.
As its name says the Great Meteoron is the biggest monastery in all Meteora, as well the oldest one. It is built on top of a gigantic (biggest) rock of the region in 14 c.
Like all others it requires many steps to climb to reach it, so it might not be suitable for people with mobility issues. Bear in mind that those steps were made in early 20c only - until then monks used ropes and ladders to reach it.
The Church built in 16 c in the middle of the complex is outstanding. Great views of entire area from the terrace.
Dejan Braki — Google review
This is the largest and most popular monastery. It's well worth the visit but can be rather busy and crowded. The hike up has several steps and narrow passages, but worth it to make it up. The top has some great views and a beautiful monastery inside.
There is also some museums and exhibits containing documents and clothing and other artifacts ranging as far back as the 13th century.
Would recommend, and try and make the stop sooner or the crowds and parking might be a bit overwhelming.

Well worth a visit. Views are stunning and the monasteries are fascinating. If you only have time for one then go to the Great Monastery. It rained while I was there so the ramps and steps were slippy, so make sure you have appropriate footwear. Women are required to wear a skirt or wrap, which they will provide for free. 310 steps, Yes, I counted them.

Lovely in every corner. The 300 steps include both upward and downward steps and were totally manageable. Views from the monastery was breath taking.

Went on a Sunday and it was pretty busy but the ticket line moved quick. Only €3 per person. I wish I had more time but it was a day trip. I liked their kitchen showcasing their old cooking artifacts and the wall paintings inside the church/chapel.
Parking was difficult, had to park down the hill but it was worth the uphill walk to enjoy the views of this magnificent monastery.
There are about 300 steps you need to climb from the entrance to the top of the monastery.

As we were visiting Meteora monasteries on a Wednesday we did :
1) Varlaam
2) Great Meteoron
3) Rousanos
Great Meteoron is one of the « main » monastery at Meteora next to Varlaam and Holy Trinity.
It’s located near Varlaam, so it’s quite easy to do both.
Regarding access, there is around 300 steps, but it’s quite okay.
It took us 1 hour in order to visit it.
It can be visited within 45 minutes, but as they are a lot of guides, if you stay a few minutes at a point place, there is huge likelihood that a guide will pass with his group in order to catch one part of the explanation that may be interesting
This one has two small museums inside with very nice pieces
Thomas Defise — Google review
This is the largest and most complete monastery in Meteoron, it was not damaged during WW II. There are two sections of work separated by centuries so there are examples of earlier Greek Orthodox artwork then later. The church is in the square shape prominent in the earlier periods. The artwork outside the main sanctuary is particularly interesting because it depicts every imaginable way Christians were tortured and killed. The sanctuary on the other hand has the cupola with Christ at the top, followed by angels then Mary and the apostles.
The museum lower level is interesting with some artwork. In the hallway outside the lower level of the museum are many posters, especially from War War II with Greek and Italian propaganda.
The old kitchen is also worthy of your time. Lots of steps, a bit of a workout if you are not used to steps.
Rhicke Jennings — Google review
A breathtaking and incredible place. It is very hard to imagine how monks were climbing there on the rope ladders. We got there in a cloudy and rainy weather. The monastery looked marvellous and mysterious. The clouds were moving fast, after some time there was nothing visible, just a white wall in front. After waiting for some time, we were able to enjoy an incredible view from the monastery.

The biggest of the spectacular monasteries on the rocks above Kalambaka. This one has the usual great views from the terrace and a richly decorated church. There's also an atmospheric little museum with some spectacular religious relics. The gift shop is a bit overpriced compared with the others. Entry fee is E3 (Greek citizens enter free). Be aware that there are over 300 steps up to the entrance.

Not too many tourists on a Monday in November. Such beautiful surrounds. Everyone should visit here. Best with your own car. A guide would be helpful but not necessary.

An extraordinary place. The steps are challenging especially those with mobility issues, but if you are determined the reward is great. The frescos and views are amazing.
G Mac — Google review
What an amazing monastery. From the outside and the inside, this monastery is something spectacular. I loved every single thing in this monastery. Everything I saw was just amazing. The views from the monastery's garden are just breathtaking. To reach this monastery, you'll need to walk about 300 steps, but every step is worth the effort.
Every woman must wear a long dress or carry something to cover her legs (to the knees) even if she's wearing jeans. I'm saying this because I was asked to do this, while my male friends who wore shorts had no issues at all. Also, everyone must wear a shirt that covers their shoulders.

The Meteora Monasteries are a must visit if you are going to Greece. Even if you are not catholic or religious, do visit to experience the peace, calmness and beauty of this place. You will encounter the Breathtaking views, amazing positivity at these monasteries. There are 6 active monasteries to visit but be mindful that they close on seperate days of the week. You can buy tickets when entering them for each priced at 3 euro. Also wear comfortable shoes as there stairs to get to them.
Meteora Monasteries, a World Heritage site consisting of six Eastern Orthodox monasteries, are located in Kalambaka. These monasteries were built on top of rock pillars amidst breathtaking scenery and fresh air. To reach the location safely, it is recommended to hire a car and drive carefully due to the presence of scary curves on the way.
One of the places that gives you the feeling that you have reached heaven, when you are actually in the world.
Despite the distance from Athens or Thessaloniki the journey to Meteora is particularly worthwhile, you can get there by train independently or alternatively book a guided tour in advance. It is very important to arrive in modest attire, long pants and a skirt for women, in addition to T-shirts, it is recommended to arrive in the spring, summer and fall season, enjoy

I went here on an organised coach tour from Corfu. You can can get some stunning pictures of the rock formations by the side of the road at various points before going to any of the monasteries. The limited stopping spaces can become very busy at times. The tour I was on visited two monasteries. At the first monastery we made our way up quite a few steps to pay the first entrance fee of 3 EUR. There are a few spots on the way up to take more pictures.
Fortunately we had an English speaking guide included in the tour price which really helped to understand the history and the meaning of the paintings etc.Definitely worth it if you can have a guided tour. We spent about an hour here
The second monastery was down a lot of steps then up to pay the entrance fee. Again the guide explained about the history to provide some context. There were also a few information boards to read in English. We stayed here for approximately 45 minutes. Toilet facilities were available at both places along with small gift shops. Modest clothing is required and ladies have to purchase a covering if they are not wearing a skirt. Great opportunity to see a wonderful UNESCO heritage site. You could spend all day here if you walked around and went to a few more monasteries.

A must visit, while in Greece not just for it’s historical & immaculately kept buildings, the views are breathtaking & it is & was spiritually for me. But be prepared lots of steps if you want to go inside any of the churches. Also it is approx 4/5 hr drive North of Athens.

Wonderful places!! It's definitely worth a visit or a day trip from nearby cities or Thessaloniki. (About 3 hours drive each way)
There is dress code for men and women. Men: long pants; women: long skirts.
They do have some cover up cloth for those guests who may need it.
Don't worry about the stairs, they are in good condition and enjoy the view as you get there.
Remember to being cash for the ticket (3 euro per adult visitor).
Roads are narrow and windy to go up or down as you enter the area. If you are easy to get car sick, be prepared for some remedies.
Avoid the peak tourist times if you can to enjoy the places quietly and leisurely. They are not very big, but so have some detailed religious work can be observed. Along with some Greek and English explanations.
Do watch out for signs for where photos or video not allowed. Be respectful and considerate. Enjoy your time and follow the rules and guidelines there. Don’t forget to visit the shops there to see if you may want to pick up some items.

Breathtaking. I visited the area on a tour, and all the 3 monasteries we visited, and the other 3 we only saw from the outside, were sitting in some of the most gorgeous locations, hanging up on the columns.
Each monastery costs 3 euros to enter. Be aware that most of them, except "The Monastery of St. Stephan", aren't accessible to people in wheel chairs, and there is a fair amount of stairs everywhere.

One of 6 monasteries in Meteora. Beautiful place to visit. Be aware modest dress only or they won't let you in. If a woman doesn't have a dress on, they'll provide you a wrap to use. You may or may not see a monk while here. Also there are a couple indoor areas that photographs are not allowed. Great little museum and gift shop where you can buy some souvenirs, including grappa they make onsite! Wonderful views from pretty much anywhere.

The combination of the unusual rock formations and the medieval monasteries sitting on their peaks makes Meteora a very unique place. A few tourist agencies offer a sunset tours but I took a taxi to the sunset viewpoints. The panoramic views of the otherworldly landscape bathed in the golden rays of the setting sun simply took my breath away. Visiting some monasteries perching on the top of the rock pillars is also an experience like no other. If you enjoy hiking, you should spend a few days in this area. I thoroughly loved this place.

Stunning views and hard climbs. The monasteries are well worth it though, both the interior and exterior are remarkable! Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in mainland Greece. (PS: Stay for more than a day if you're traveling from Athens as most travelers only get to see about 2 monestaries, while we got to see 4 of them. You also get to spare yourself the trouble of being in the bus for almost 10 hours

There are no words to describe this place, Meteora is magical and amazing to say the least. If travelling from Athens, I recommend getting a private car ride up so you can see things in your own time and see the monasteries you most want to see. There are lines to get in to the monasteries and you must make sure you’re wearing clothes that cover your shoulders and are below the knees in order to get in. The views are breathtaking. Definitely recommend doing a day trip from Athens!

Such an amazing place. The views are breathtaking. The monasteries date back to the 1300s and are very interesting places to visit. From a historical aspect they are an amazing story of human determination and perseverance. From a religious aspect one can feel in touch with God and closer to the heavens.

Very nice place to visit but it all depends on the time you have on hand. From Athens is a total of 8hrs bus drive and with the time spent there you will easily be gone from Athens for 15- 16 hrs. The tour I joined they visited 3 monasteries with around 40 to 50 min allocates to each, for an inside visit. Some of the monasteries have lost of stairs to climb so if your are not a fit person , just take it slow.
The monasteries , some of them are lived by only a small handful of nuns or monks , which you may or may not see if you are there .
The place and views are beautiful so if you have the time to spare , just go for it!

Speechless! It's definitely worth going to! Don't be alarmed by the stairs, they are in great condition and you can enjoy the view along the way. One important thing is to make sure to bring cash for the ticket (3 euro per non-Greek person). Also, don't stress about the dress code as women are offered a pareo.

This is one place in Greece I definately recommend seeing. A Unesco Heritage site that stimulate all senses when seen in person! It wasn't cheap nor easy getting there, 5 or 6 tolls each way, 4.5 hour drive from Athens, but it was worth the effort. A place few people had heard off, but gaining in popularity for good reason. Imagine monasteries pearch high up on monolithic steep rock formations, its like a city in the clouds. No picture or video can do this place justice. Just Go!

A wonderful visit to the monasteries of Meteora. Read up on them first. Look at all the photos you want: no photo does the place justice.
There are 6 active active monasteries out of 24. Well worth the entry fee (3€ per person). Visit the shops for mementos.
Toilets are available in town and in the monasteries. I would recommend checking out the monastery toilets, it's an experience 😉.
One word of note: there is always one monastery that is closed, so make sure if you want to enter a particular one, if it's closed on your visiting day.

A popular choice during the cooler seasons, Pozar Baths attract travelers seeking to unwind in its soothing waters while surrounded by stunning natural landscapes.
The natural park of Edessa Waterfalls has several stunning waterfalls, equipped with viewing decks and a walking path situated behind a beautiful water curtain. This serene location provides numerous opportunities to capture breathtaking photographs surrounded by the abundance of nature's beauty. A nearby restaurant offers delicious food conveniently located next to the falls making it an ideal location to spend a relaxing day with friends or family while enjoying the spectacular surroundings.
The Edessa waterfalls offer breath-taking views! The waterfalls are stunning and a great location to visit to enjoy the many bounties of nature. There are many great photo opportunities. We visited with a large group of students and stopped to eat at the nearby restaurant, which I would recommend trying. The food was delicious, and the location was practically next to the falls. A perfect addition to add to your visit to the mountain regions of Greece.

This is a beautiful waterfall. It is surely worth a visit. While there, take a break and eat at the delicious restaurant on top of the falls. I had the grilled trout with veggies, fresh cut fries and a glass of the local semi-sweet wine. It was delicious.

You can't miss this breathtaking wonder of nature if you happen visit Edessa.
To access the waterfalls and witness them up and closely, there's plenty of stairs to walk up and down. Otherwise you can catch a glimpse from the top.
There's also a cave to visit, but you have to buy tickets in order to enter.
If you're hungry, or in the mood for coffee, the area has a lot of cafeterias offering food and desserts.

Went during rainfalls and the area was like a magical place. Under the waterfall is a cave, with an extremely cheap entrance (around 1-2€) and some museums worth the visit. Family friendly place.

Such a beautiful waterfall in a well man made park area! This was on our way to Pozar so we though we would pop by to see and did not know what to expect. It was a really nice and quite big waterfalls. They have steps that go down so you can see from different angles and they have even made a small path so you can go behind the waterfall for a view. On a Sunny day it is also a nice and quite busy park

Edessa is a cute little town in Northern Greece with a beautiful jewel. These waterfalls are a sight to behold and it is a very enjoyable walk in a beautiful mixture of park versus wilderness. Recommended

The entire park is gorgeous, with many water ways and smaller waterfalls all leading up to the main waterfall.
There is a small cave behind the big waterfall, entrance is paid - the cave itself is about 20 meters long so it's a quick visit.

Great experience to see how much the nature is powerful. If you want to get under the strong waterfall, bring your swimwear and a string someone hangs firmly and I think this is the best massage you can get in your life.
Make sure you take all the security points before going under because it's free access. Enjoy amigos

The Edessa Waterfalls are a must-see if you're visiting Greece. These stunning waterfalls are located in the town of Edessa, and they are one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
The waterfalls are made up of seven different cascades, and they drop over 70 meters into the river below. The water is crystal clear, and the falls are surrounded by lush greenery. It's a truly breathtaking sight.
You can take a walk along the trail that leads to the base of the falls.
No matter how you choose to experience the Edessa Waterfalls, you're sure to be amazed. They are a truly beautiful and unique natural wonder.

A wonderful place, really the highlight of the town. Too bad it's inaccessible to people with disabilities. I suppose it is really difficult to make the necessary adjustments. It was hard for my daughter to climb the stairs up and down. Luckily everyone was helpful and understanding (we caused delays with the climbing up and down because she needed time to deal with the stairs.

Very beautiful waterfalls, well kept place. Free and plenty of parking space. It is free to enter the area/see the waterfalls, only need to pay 1 euro/ person to get inside the cave. It is small but very beautiful. Definitely worth it!
Reconstructed tomb of a 3rd-century B.C. Greek ruler, with treasures such as a delicate gold crown.
History and glory. Philip father of great Alexander continues to amaze even from the grave. Glory, attention to detail and the vast history of the man are only few of the reasons you should visit these archaeological sites. Whatever I write is an understatement to the feeling you get when you visit the tomb. It will take you around an hour to pass threw and then you can also visit the palace which is very near from the tomb with the same ticket.

The tombs themselves are amazing! Only reason for dropping a star is it is confusing what is and isn't open, most things are closed, and €12 a person is a bit steep when most things are closed. But the exhibit is really well put together and still a must see. We went just out of season amd the place was intermittently busy and quiet.

Along with The National Arch Museum in Athens and the Arch Museum in Heraklion I’d consider this one if the top museums in all of Greece. Beautifully arranged inside the burial mound. It’s dark and atmospheric and the displays show incredible finds from the royal tombs. A must see site if you are anywhere nearby

Of the dozens of museums I have visited in Greece, this is one of the best. Amazing artifacts and incredibly well-preserved tombs. If you have more than a couple days in the Thessaloniki area, I would highly recommend renting a car or taking a day trip. The ticket also grants you entry to the other museum in Vergina.

A fantastic experience. You go inside the tumulus to see the Tom sites in situ. There are displays of the treasures found there and a moving film dedicated to the archeologist showing the discovery and artistic musings on death. The entrance ticket is €15 but this also gets entrance to the polycentric museum a few miles away. Worth the admission.

Amazing underground tomb (Great Tumulus) that is the final resting place for three individuals: King Phillip, father of Alexander the Great, Alexander’s son and half brother. Artifacts from the tombs are on display and you can walk very close to the doors of the tombs of Phillip and Alexander’s son. Please be respectful and follow the rule to not use flash when taking photos as this degrades the treasures.

This place is full of wonderful treasures with real tombs and ancient armor worn by great warriors. The tour guide had an amazing way of talking about the stuff all around us that you would get really immersed and feel as if you where there inside the story. The museum is beatifully built and the representation of the items inside the tomb where very clear. It's nothing compared to the regular museums you probably have been. I won't spoil much, you need to see it with your own eyes!

FANTASTIC! Filip the 2nd was that time the person who ruled the most of the "known land" ! The whole necropolia in this area was about 200 ha, where about 5 ha was dedicated to citizens of the capital of Macedonia around 350 B.C. Possibly the area sorrouning the Royal Tumulus of Filip the 2nd is 5 ha and there are also burried here about 35 000 soldiers of Alexander. Absolutely must-see!!! Many interesting information you may find on English wikipedia. Full ticket 15 Eur and 8 Euro reduced price. You must have document with photo to get reduction for elderly citizens. The ticket is valid fot the Museum of Royal Tombs and archeological sites nearby.

We went to the royal tombs after a long trip from Florian. The staff were polite and the exhibit breathtaking. The dark lights and strategically placed artefacts created a unique atmosphere. However, two things had affected us. The text next to finds was sometimes too small to read or easily attributed to finds. Also the signage and directions to the royal tombs were not clear.
Vasilis Tsamis — Google review
Very impressive museum of one of the most important archeological sites of ancient Greece. The dimmed lights offer a surreal experience of the tombs of many Greek Royals of the Macedonian Kingdom with most important Phillip II (Alexander the Great's father).

It was absolutely amazing to see this beautiful prepared exhibition about Philip II in the original tumulus!
We forgot the time and stayed nearly three hours, one hour with a guide and two hours by ourselves to enjoy every detail and to remember everything in a close memory.
One of the best places to remember that Greek was a high culture and Europe and Asia share more than just "one" history.
This museum is a must for anyone who wants to understand history as more than just dust and legend.
Be aware of the opening hours!

Excellent!!! The museum is built underground so you get the feeling of entering the tomb of Phillip the second as you descend. Lighting is kept low and only the artefacts and exhibits are lit, drawing the visitor in for closer inspection. The whole experience is magical and very unique. I highly recommend a visit.

My visit to the royal tombs in Vergina was a magical experience. Archaeological excavations reveal the antiquity and wealth of the era. As I walked the corridors between the trenches, a sense of awe and wonder of discovery came over me. Aristotelous Square is a vast public square in the heart of Thessaloniki, Greece that is surrounded by some of the citys most luxurious residences and cafes. Designed by Ernest Hebrard, the square features an impressive view of Mt Olympus and was originally built to showcase the citys Byzantine heritage. Today, its buildings are home to a diverse range of architects and boast a grand rhythm reminiscent of the rue du Rivoli.
Really busy and buzzing Square full of action. There is a cinema nearby, the lovely beach, shops and restaurants alike, making it a hot-spot for tourists. Thoroughly enjoyed the area, stretching further to other busy spots without noticing the walk. I'd suggest walking around and searching your preferences on Google Maps to find the right food place, though I'd strongly suggest traditional restaurants. Checkout my reviews of restaurants in Thessaloniki. There are loads of things to see and do around.

An indispensable part of the city’s heritage. This type of architecture demonstrates how unique this place is. The only downside is that the government should be stricter with vandalism and pay more attention to damages happening throughout the years in an attempt to retain the area intact and beautiful. The square could also comprise mini shops or activities for the visitors, instead of being a large empty square solely used for walking. The area should be treated more as a landmark, than being empty and just surrounded by nice buildings and a bus stop.

Thessaloniki, a vibrant city with a rich history and lively atmosphere, captivates visitors with its blend of ancient charm and modern flair. The city's enchanting streets and waterfront offer a feast for the senses, making it a must-visit destination. However, planning a visit during the Christmas period may pose challenges, as finding a parking spot can be a daunting task. Despite this, the spectacular sunset over the cityscape serves as a breathtaking compensation, casting a warm and golden glow that enhances Thessaloniki's allure. Consider timing your visit outside the holiday rush for a more relaxed experience.

Nice open place. Beautiful ocean site. Shops and restaurants all around. Many of the tourist attractions are within 7-12min walking distance (Agia Sofia Square Church, Ancient Agora/Roman Forum of Thessaloniki, Agios Dimitrios, The Rotunda, Arch Of Galerius, etc). We had a 6hrs stopover, on our flight from Frankfurt to Athens, so we took the opportunity to check out Thessaloniki, the ancient capital of Macedonia! The airport shuttle took around 45minutes (Bey Hamam bus stop). Cost only 2€ pp! Taxis are available too. Everyone speaks English and very helpful and kind. The bus stop (we found) to return to the airport was 1 min from Arch of Galerius. Across from Holy Church of Panagia Dexia. Bus # (O1x). If you are in Thessaloniki must visit this place.

Came to Grecee from 16 Aug to 28 Aug from Singapore. A party of two people total. We mainly did a self drive with a small car to get around from location to location.
This is like the main square here and you walk all the way up, it looks really nice the first time but it gets pretty normal afterwards. The whole sqare itself gets quite crowded sometimes esp during dinner time.
Its quite an easy street because you can always re-direct yourself once you come across this square. There isnt alot of seating here and I've seen a few public restrooms as well but I cant say if they were clean or not.
The floor is made of marble and is quite smooth and nice

Aristotle Square is one of the most beautiful places in Thessaloniki. Great building and Tower. Not really white ;) Though the second biggest city in Greece, Thessaloniki does really feel smaller - a plus, I consider, for such a historic city. There are many historical sites all over Thessaloniki, many of which are not widely known. On Google Maps, just tap the compass to see these, filter by attractions and distance, it'd bring attractions near you and just explore.

Inside, visitors can explore fascinating exhibits, artifacts, and displays that provide insight into the city's past. The surrounding area is vibrant, with plenty of cafes, shops, and cultural attractions nearby, making it an ideal spot to spend a few hours soaking in the atmosphere of this beautiful city. The cost to enter the building was 3 euros. Nothing is written in English. You would have to pay for and audible device to listen to for the tour. Just FYI is to watch your head. It's worth going up to see the view from the top. I didn't find the museum as interesting. They provide audio guides in a variety of languages but these are far too long and the voice is rather monotonous. I already learnt about the history on various tours I had done across Thessaloniki, so I had a good understanding of the history and significance of the White Tower beforehand.

The Tower is a relic of the city’s fortification. Currently a museum of the history of Thessaloniki. The entrance costs 3 euro and you better take that audio guide with you (it’s free od charge) because everything is only in greek. Six floors of interesting content and a balcony with a magnificent view. Prepare yourself for some stairs (start a week before on that stair climber at your gym ;)).

A beautiful place with a panorama. The ticket (6€) includes an audio guide in 4 languages (English and Russian for sure), but you need your own headphones for the audio guide. This surprised me a little. There are a lot of installations inside, but everything is in Greek and an audio guide would help to understand more. At the very top there is a beautiful panorama of the city around.

Had to be visited as the main attraction point in Thessaloniki. The area around it is great and externally it is an impressive building. The view from the top is great but than again it is not hugely tall and after a few photos I assume you get down.
I can't see the appeal of the exhibition inside unless you are Greek speaking.
There is not a single English description next to the exhibitions.
Audio guide recommended by QR code was: done poorly and not good to walk through the exhibitions (single audio track per floor). You can't listen to it on mobile unless you had earphones on you or quickly each floor is filled with cacophony of multiple visitors listening loudly on mobile.
Google lens for translation worked on some exhibits but is will drain your mobile battery quickly.
This could easily be improved.

It is kind of a place populated by homeless people. You can take a boat tour here, but I did not really like it overall as it is not really friendly for tourists infrastructure wise and information points or clean spaces or benches to sit outside in the shade when there is very hot to be outside.

Thessaloniki is a beautiful city with access to the sea, a rich history and a lot of things to visit. One of those is the white tower about which there are complaints. The most known place of Thessaloniki. The tower is dominating the area. Thousands of people flock on this area at times. It's one of the most popular spots in town for many reasons and it's the main city attraction.
The Church of St. Demetrios is an ancient building that honors Thessaloniki's patron saint. It is built over the site of a Roman bath house and contains Saint Demetrius' body. The crypt beneath the church contains Dimitrios' relics, which are an important part of Greek culture.
The Church of Saint Demetrius, or Hagios Demetrios (Greek: Άγιος Δημήτριος), is the main sanctuary dedicated to Saint Demetrius, the patron saint of Thessaloniki, dating from a time when it was the second largest city of the Byzantine Empire. It is part of the site Palaeochristian and Byzantine Monuments of Thessaloniki on the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO since 1988.

This magnificent church was the highlight of our Thessaloniki trip. Walking in you feel the spiritual aura embrace you. Saint Demetrius, we were informed by a local, is the protector of the city. We noticed a line of parishioners to the left of the altar waiting their turn to enter the white round structure that housed Saint Demetrius’s picture. Speaking to two separate locals, one mentioned she prayed for anything that she needed divine blessings for, and another mentioned prayers were usually for the young as saint Demetrius died when he was fairly young. As we were about to leave, John who we were about to purchase a momento from, asked us if we visited the crypt in the lower level. We are profoundly grateful to this kind stranger. Because of him, we had the most incredible experience. We walked down the steps expecting to find a small crypt, but it was a huge ancient excavated site where the remains of Saint Demetrius was discovered (facing the altar, steps are on the right of the altar, at the back). We appreciated the English translations as the history of this religious site is incredible.

If you have a passion for history, art, and culture, then the Holy Church of Saint Demetrius in Thessaloniki is an absolute must-visit! This incredible church holds the prestigious title of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site and serves as the main sanctuary dedicated to Saint Demetrius, the beloved patron saint of Thessaloniki. It stands proudly as one of Greece's largest and most significant churches, making it an essential stop for any traveler.
Prepare to be enchanted by the stunning Byzantine architecture that graces the church's façade. Inside, you will be greeted by an exquisite collection of mosaics and frescoes that are sure to take your breath away.
There are a few hidden corners requiring some exploration on the visitor part and of course do not miss the crypt (basement).
The crypt is the place where Saint Demetrius was martyred in the early 4th century AD. You will find there a network of chambers and tunnels that were originally used as Roman baths.
However, after Saint Demetrius was martyred, the baths were converted into a crypt and a place of pilgrimage.
These contains the tomb of Saint Demetrius and few of his relics.
We visited the Church on mid week morning which was a joy as the Church was quite empty and easy to explore.
A highly recommended visit!

Probably one of the largest churches in Greece, not only in Thessaloniki, a true symbol of Orthodoxy. It contains numerous holy relics, including those of Saint Demetrius, icons, frescoes, mosaics and other religious objects of great value and significance. You can also enter the basement area, the crypt, where the remains of Saint Demetrius were found. For believers visiting Thessaloniki, a visit to this holy place is mandatory

The Church of St. Demetrius is the patron saint of Thessaloniki, it is among the most visited sights of the city. The building lies on old Roman baths. The temple was built in the 4th century AD. In the 5th century it was rebuilt into a three-building basilica. After a large fire, only the ruins of the present-day church remain of the basilica. This happened in 629-634.
A hexagonal tomb lined with silver is kept in St. Demetrius, and there is a bed on the tomb on which no one rests, and it is believed that the structure has a symbolic meaning rather than a real tomb.
Very beautiful place!

Even if you are not familiar with the history of the church it is definitely worth a visit. You must go down below into the catacombs which have been modified and worked on for centuries.

Wonderful experience. Grace, peace, beauty. the presence of Saint Demetrius surrounded by all the Tessaloniki saints is very impressive and alive.

The Church of Saint Demetrius, or Hagios Demetrios, is the main sanctuary dedicated to Saint Demetrius, the patron saint of Thessaloniki, dating from a time when it was the second largest city of the Byzantine Empire. Since 1988, it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a part of the site Paleochristian and Byzantine monuments of Thessaloniki.

A beautiful building with an amazing crypt. A very busy church as there are many icons and the remains of St Dimitrios which has a constant line of those wishing to pray. The crypt is wonderful. The stairs are a little hard to find. When you enter the church go to the far right hand aisle and go to the end and they are just to the left. There are toilets to the left of the buildings but squat toilets.

It is a building that represents the city of Thessaloniki very well. We went during the service, it had a different and mystical atmosphere. It is a historical building that must be visited in Thessaloniki

I was lucky to be here on a Sunday with a baptism being held, it was moving and felt special. This is very much an active church, you need to be suitably dressed and respectful of worshippers. There are many icons devout Orthodox Christians were kissing and praying at. As a tourist it can be hard to see past the showy gold of the icons but take at least half an hour to walk peacefully in the church. You may like to write a slip of paper for a prayer for a loved one or light a candle. Whatever the weather, a good reprieve and space to gather your thoughts.

Beautiful church with an interesting crypt that's 100% free to visit. Be sure to check out the alleged remains of st. Demetrius and don't forget to pop into the crypt.

Visited as part of a guided tour. What a spectacular place, I'm not religious but this is still somewhere you should definitely visit if you're in Thessaloniki. So beautiful inside and so much history too see. The crypt below was my highlight.

Very beautiful church service on Sundays - fully packed congregation with a range of local people (young adults, families, senior citizens). You can feel the sanctity of the church as well as the divine essence encompassed within the grounds. The incense used during the service was beautiful.
The catacombs downstairs are very fascinating as well. The staff could be a bit friendlier (not the people leading the service but the ones responsible for replenishing candles and maintenance of the building).

Fantastic day sailing with Daysailing and Sven, we were well looked after from start to finish and enjoyed a perfect day trip for the family.
Refreshingly cold drinks, food and snorkelling gear being provided meant we pretty much just needed to turn up with a beach bag and relax 😎👌🏻
Sven was such a great host and skipper, his passion for sailing and giving people these special experiences, just added to the day. His last trip of the season 😉🙏🏻
Thankyou for a wonderful, memorable day 🌤️🚤🙏🏻🤿

Awesome boat tour! We were able to do stand-up-paddling and snorkeling all included. On top we got videos and photos from their drone, which are great memories for our group. Snacks and drinks were included as well. Highly recommended!

We had a perfect day with Sven on his boat stopping off at three lovely spots for swimming and snorkelling. From start to finish Sven was incredibly accommodating and looked after everyone on his boat. Having no more than 12 people for each trip, it’s a very personalised service and would recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

The most amazing boat trip ever!!! Captain Sven took us to the most beautiful spots and we were able to swim, snorkel and even paddleboard!! I couldn’t recommend him enough, Sven was so welcoming and we were all so comfortable. We had the best day and we will definitely be back again. Thank you so much Sven!!

We have just returned home from a weeks holiday in Afytos where we booked a private sunset yacht trip with 2 other couples that we met at our hotel. Our Trip was booked for Tuesday 20th June 5pm to 9pm. I can honestly say this made our holiday. Sven was amazing, he is so passionate about what he does and made all 6 of us so welcome. We had 2 swim stops along the way and took in some amazing scenery along the coast line of Afytos and Kallithea. On the way back we watched a beautiful sunset as we headed back to port, and as an added bonus, we got to see a pair of dolphins that were following alongside the yacht. All in all it was a perfect experience and we would highly recommend this for anyone. Sven also took photos and videos of us via his drone which also looked fantastic. He is a great guy and works so hard to make sure you have the best experience possible. Thank you Sven, we will definitely see you again as we plan on returning to halkidiki next year.

We had a wonderful day out with Sven in his beautiful boat. He could not do more to make you feel welcome and managed to get us right on top of a pod of dolphins which was really special. There was plenty of time to relax, swim, paddle board and soak up the beauty of the Aegean. This is a top day out and would highly recommend!

Amazing experience on sailing yacht🥰 unfortunately there was no wind that day but it didn't matter. The beautiful beaches, friendly atmosphere, nice host Sven, we could not wish for more! Fantastic day out with Daysailing. Sven is a brilliant host, full of energy and a great sense of humour. We stopped at several spots throughout the day where we could get into the water for a swim or use paddleboard and snorkels provided by Sven. We also docked at a beach club with stunning blue waters, where we were given fresh fruit (free of charge) and able to order drinks from the bar. We then spent time enjoying the water once again whilst Sven prepared freshly made baguettes.
This was the best boat trip I have been on and great value for money, couldn’t fault our day at all! From Alex and Nicole
Access to ski runs in winter, plus hiking & biking trails & a mountain water slide in summer.
summer cable car 8am to 4:30pm, return tickets cost 30 BGN , sunny day great views.

Just like other reviewers, not worth to wait at least 1-2 hrs every morning.
Or taxi 10 leva person and shutter bus 8 leva, very long queue in the morning.
Plus when you up there, there will be queue again at the ski lifts.
What a nightmare. First time and last.

It's a gondola.... We were in Bansko week before Feb half term and after 9am it was mega busy, 30 minutes wait minimum if you don't have the magic queue jump pass.
Runs all day up and down with a mid station stop at Chalin Valog. Takes about 29mins to reach the top.
Tickets bought via crystal Ski so can't comment on the usual cost.

Bansko Gondola is one of the worst mountain lifts I have ever seen and it is not because it’s old. It is massively overcrowded. On a busy day you could wait for 1-2 hours to get up the mountain. So either you have to be very early (before 8am), either after 12pm, or you can chose to pay additional 15 levs for minibus service.
All the rest is pretty good, if there is sufficient amount of snow.
However we have spent great time with family in Bansko.
Karolis Zilius — Google review
Pros:
It is a nice place with great infrastructure.
Cons:
The fake snow unfortunately became ice after 13:00. Ratrack machines did not brake the ice. Unpleasant experience to skiing on the ice.
The gondola lift is the bottleneck unfortunately. The rest of the lifts are fast and there were no queues (except Gondola) 🚠
It makes sense to take a shuttle bus in order to avoid the Gondola.
That's why I give 3 stars. Mainly about the snow quality.
Klearchos Klearchou — Google review
Lines can take up to three hours or longer to take the gondola! There was only one ticket machine working, so I recommend buying your ski pass the day before at the windows, between 4pm and 5:30pm. Another option is to take a taxi up to the lifts instead of taking the gondola, sometimes it is worth it just to skip the gondola line.
daniela vega — Google review
This is more of a review for the gondola and main base area than the whole resort: Undersized, overcrowded, and poorly managed. 1 hour ques for skiing are ridiculous. They need to build a second gondola to reduce crowd size.
Having a season pass with "fast-pass" access through the back is the only saving grace from waiting in the huge line.
Snowmaking is fantastic and the nearby bars are great. Always fun to take the ski road home.
Zach Phelan — Google review
Wonderful view of the mountains. Just the right speed. Windows for clean air. The only downside was the ticket price per adult.
Nikolay Georgiev — Google review
The Gondola takes you up to Bunderishka Polyana advisable to get there at 08.00 or after 10.00 otherwise the cues are long . 30 minute ride with stunning scenery . Ski school , restaurants and the beginning of the Ski run ( Ski Road) 7kms of Blue Run ( I found some of it more of a Red Run in places - however my skiing was abit rusty ! , several nice cafes on the way down . Gloriously Sunny all week .
Gondola closes at 5pm for descents .
Kay Crane — Google review
Have to get there early to avoid standing in queue for over an hour. Resort was okay, but the gondola is a horrible bottleneck in the morning. Don't make the mistake of going during British midterm break, it is the busiest time of the season and the slopes are also very crowded and get covered in ice quickly.
Pihel Saatmann (Pihel S.) — Google review
Good if you have season pass. Without season pass you can stay in a line for hours
Ekaterina Sharapova — Google review
Gondola ride is great for sightseeing. You can get tickets only for the ride if you're not skiing. If you're planning to get coffee or food up there, remember to bring cash with you, as one store we visited didn't accept cards.
Nicolas Sivridis (nyko) — Google review
Unfortnately very crowded when there are hollydays in Romania or Bulgaria. Otherwise is a good and quick way to go on the mountain.
Dani Bis — Google review
Excellent ski resort.
If the line in the gondola is too long, take a taxi to the top.
10 lev for each person.

Kalogria Beach is a beautiful stretch of fine sand located between the villages Nikiti and Neos Marmaras. It offers clear, shallow waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Visitors can rent chairs and umbrellas to relax on the beach or enjoy refreshments at nearby beach bars and restaurants.
Great diving and great beach. Swim out to the rock and see local aquatic environment that goes down to 30m.

Kalogria beach (Greek: Παραλία Καλόγριας)[1] is the name of a sandy and award-winning with Blue Flag beach[2] that is located in the vicinity of the village Araxos, in Northwestern Peloponnese, Greece. The beach is beside the Sprofylia natural park, it has a length of ~9 Km and width 80m and is one of the longest sandy beaches of Greece.[3][4] The area close to the beach has many sand dunes that are formed by sea sand that moves with the aid of the westerly winds and the Ionian Sea waves. The dunes occupy an area of 200 hectares and can reach heights of up to 10 metres and widths from 20 – 500 metres.[5] At the north edge of the beach there is the largest sand dune in Peloponnese and one of the largest in Greece. The beach is a popular destination for many tourists and Greeks. At a close distance to the beach there are a couple of hotels and restaurants. The airport of Araxos is in a distance of 7 km. The last 10 years there have been many attempts from arsonists to burn the Strofylia forest beside the beach of Kalogria. On 13 August 2015 a fire burned 160 acres of forest.[6] On 17 October 2017 there has been another major incident of forest fire in the protected area and beside Kalogria beach.[7] The results of the wild fires are not easily observable when someone visits the beach from the north (except an area beside the large dune).

During our holiday in Chalkidiki we visited a few beaches, like the one in Nikiti, Vourvourou, Sarti, Kallithea and Afytos, but none of them was as great as this one. It's a sandy beach and on the left side (when you face the water) there are rocks where you can snorkle. In september 2021 we paid 10 euro for two beds and a beach unbrella. Just don't go to the right when you enter. There is a beach club where you can park easily and the beds are free. But you have to at least buy 4 drinks per person and the music is very loud. Just go to the beds in the middle. There isn't much space to park your car in the "free zone" so that can be a problem during the real tourist season.
We also went to "the most beautiful" beach of Chalkidiki, Kavourotrypes Beach. Yes, it looks nice in pictures, but there's only a small beach and not much space. You have to lie on big rocks and when we were there it was very crowded. Nope, not for us!

Absolutely stunning.
Shallow, sandy beach. Lots of rocky areas either side of the beach for a good snorkel.
Pedal boats available to hire, diving sessions too. Couple bars & restaurants close by.
Since the beach was so beautiful, we decided to get the more expensive beds right at the front - absolutely did not regret it.
35€ for 2, plus a beanbag, towels, nuts, ice bucket, safe box, and exceptional service from the waiters.
Great price for beers, cocktails cost no more than usual either.
Food was decent, maybe a little pricy but okay considering the location.
If you don’t want to rent a bed, there’s plenty of space to lay your own chairs / blanket.
We arrived just before midday, and stayed the entire day, and could of stayed all night too.
We were actually staying in Kalamata but were recommended this place by a waiter. About 1 hour drive through the windey mountain roads, worth it!

Kavourotrypes Beach is a well-liked destination with a combination of sandy and rocky areas, suitable for swimming and sunbathing. The beach also boasts a small bar for visitors to enjoy. Considered one of the finest beaches in the Mediterranean, it offers stunning panoramic views and an abundance of marine life which makes snorkeling an unforgettable experience. However, it can become quite busy due to its popularity among tourists.
Best beach in Mediterranean: superb landscapes, teeming underwater life (snorkeling is a must), super clean waters. The only negative is that it gets really crowded
Lucian Popescu — Google review
Absolutely beautiful beach with crystal clear waters, but also a bit of a tourist trap. Very overcrowded. The bar on the beach blasts loud music spoiling this natural beauty. A lot of garbage right next to the parking area. Unfortunately what could have been a paradise spot is actually so packed that it almost causes anxiety. Hope the authorities do something about the bar, clean it up and limits the number of people.

We were fortunate to visit the beach at the end of the season when the weather was perfect. The beach was virtually deserted, creating a pristine and breathtaking setting. It was an amazing spot to unwind and enjoy the tranquility of the sea.

Very nice landscape, probably the best for camping. There are couple small beaches between the rocks, all look amazing from the top of the hill. Only one of them has the sun umbrellas and the bar on the beach, but they all get overcrowded (so much that there is no space between the sunbeds and towels - you have to jump over or move something if you want to get to the water). I thought this could be nice place for snorkeling, but the visibility in the water was poor regardless of how far I’d go from the beach.

Only 4 stars as this is not the kind of beach we prefer. For sure it's a must see but that's all, as there are only a few places where you can seat ; the beach is very narrow and there are only a few places with sand and at 8 AM these were already occupied. Also the exit from the main road is very challenging,so if you have a low car you may hit it, as there is quite a level difference between the tarmac and macadam roads.
Tibi N — Google review
Over rated beach. Merely no sand beach. Very overcrowded. People sitting in the forest behind the beach, or on the walk way. Or on the rocks. No place for more than 20-30 persons. You should arrive in 7-8 am to find free place. No place at the beach bar at 10 am.... Very disappointed. Anyway, the beach and nature are really beautiful, but just for short sightseeing.

A picturesque cove. It feels like a ‘local’ spot rather than a tourist beach. The beach has lots of natural shade from large trees. The sand is soft and if you bring goggles you can do some fish spotting among the gorgeous rock formations. There is a bar which has lots of seating under the trees and they play great chilled music rather than loud party tunes.
Carla Paszkowski — Google review
The only beach on two peninsulas (Sithonia and Kassandra) we got disappointed.
The beach itself is really beautiful with white sand and blue water. I would have given 5 stars if not a huge BUT! It was totally distorted by people. There is a lot of trash around, people are living in the tents, sun beds are everywhere making it impossible to enjoy the beautiful around.
For ones who is interested, there is a nudist beach around the corner

Beach bar has a reservation system that's not explained anywhere. We paid 100 euro for a transfer to this beach and we were told that it's full!
Bouncer was rude and told us to go away. We had to walk a long way to find some place to stay with my family.
Extremely loud music and extremely loud generator that's probably why the music is so loud.

Marble rocks shape the nature of this beach.
Very crowded and narrow place. Not enough amount of sunbed and umbrellas.
But if you reserve a place just before one day, you will fell privilaged with your sunned in the morning.
Be there before 9:30 at latest.
Meals are cooked not nice. We didn’t like the taste. Because they can not manage to serve such a crowd with a few number of employees.

That’s the best beach I’ve ever been to! Really!
It has some disadvantages though (but it’s still 5 stars)
The main thing I like about this beach are its views and versatility. Here you can find literally everything — sand, rocks, shrubs, coniferous trees, super clear water of turquoise color and the bottom is shallow and smooth. You will love it!
The main disadvantage is that this is a very popular place among tourists. It’s one of the most crowded beaches we saw in Sithonia. So don’t expect much private space, sometimes it even hard to find a comfortable place to stay in. The same goes for parking. The second time visiting this beach we tried to arrive before noon, but it already was full of people. So I guess maybe the best time to really enjoy its views is early morning.

It is a beautiful small beach, unfortunately the beach bar is a total disaster! It is super crowded and the music annoying, the spectacular beach is that crowded that is very hard to swim there. The staff do not care about you, you could be there for hours and nobody ask you if you need something, we tried to call the staff attention but they ignored all our attempts …. Because we were starving we decided to left, just we start to gather our belongings the staff come over for start to fix the chairs and the umbrella.

The water and the beach are actually wonderful, like from the magazines. But the number of people is unacceptable. They are literally everywhere, it is even impossible to walk without walking on someones's towel. Roaring music from the bar completes the catastrophe. In the off-season it is probably empty, but also not so warm and beautiful, so in my opinion it is impossible to use this beach for me.

The best place to go if you wan to see natural beauty. The sea is from another planet. Don’t miss it even if you are around here for one day. In the Orange beach bar they are not charging for sun-beds and umbrellas etc. . Cool prices too.
Aliki Beach is a stunning destination with crystal clear waters and small stones that add to its charm. Visitors can enjoy sunbathing and a short walk, while also indulging in meals and beverages at nearby tavernas. The beach offers sunbeds for guests of the tavernas who make a minimum order of 10, as there are no free zones for towels or umbrellas. Free parking is available on the street above the beach.
I think that this is one of the most beautiful beaches. You are able to have a short walk and sunbathing. There is a crystal water with a little stones but it doesn’t make a big problem as the experience is fully because of the place. You can take meals and beverages from any tavern on the beach. There is no free zone for your towel and umbrella, only sunbeds which you can use if you are a guest of the tavernas (minimum order €10) Free parking on the street upside.

Beautiful bay with calm and transparent water, ideal for snorkeling and swimming. Having said that, the beach is way overcrowded, overpriced and overexploited. Best thing to do is wait for late afternoon (after 17:00), grab a foldable chair and sit on the cliffs. The Mini market has very reasonable prices to get drinks or snacks.
Bogdan Stavrev — Google review
The beach is a bit overrated, a little bit too crowded, but the water is nice. The price for the sunbeds depends on the provider, we paid 10€, nothing included. The view of the ancient marble quarrys is really nice, brinh water with you.

The beach may be the best one in the island. It is like a natural pool and very clean. But the problem is about the management of the beach. Most of the beach is under control of a firm named Aliki Houses. It is the hotel just near the beach and also rents the umbrella and 2 sunbeds for 10 EUR. It was said that there is toilet and shower opportunity also. At the beginning, it was. But they cut the water of the shower and locked the toilet after 15 pm. It was the rudest behaviour I have ever seen in Thassos. You should see the ladies and man trying to use the shower. Yes, as was mentioned before in some comments, it was the beach firm in the middle with white sunbeds. Hope this kind of people leave the sector since they give harm to Greece tourism.

It was a very beautiful beach, rocky on the seaside but sandy inside. Crystal clear waters like most beaches in Greece. Many trees and also protected from the winds, you will never find waves or strong winds there.
There are sunbeds all across the beach. There is no price for most of them but you have to eat at the owner's restaurant most of them are fine and tasty.
There is only one exception. There is a place called "Aliki" that charges two sunbeds for 50 euros!!! The place is called "Aliki" (not beautiful Alice which is a different one). There are no menus and the prices are whatever they decide.
Be careful the beach gets crowded fast and you may not find a sunbed if you go around 13.00 or 14.00. There is no room, if you have your own umbrella and want to go solo, unless you want to sit on the rocks on the edge of the beach (which is kind of idyllic but truly uncomfortable).

The Ancient City of Troy is a significant historical site, known for its scattered stone ruins and a replica Trojan horse. It offers visitors an immersive experience, complete with informative displays that provide insight into the city's history and period. The surroundings are tranquil, with cheerful birdsong and playful squirrels adding to the ambiance. The ancient stones that make up the ruins are an impressive sight and should not be missed by anyone in the area.

The site represents the ruins of the city of Troy uncovered since the first archeological expedition in 1832. It is still a work in progress so don’t have high expectations: no impressive walls or great buildings yet. The Trojan horse was under construction so no pictures there.

If you are interested in history, this is a must. It doesn’t have the grandeur of some other ancient sights; however, it’s fascinating. As it doesn’t have that immediate ‘wow factor’, I would highly recommend getting a tour as the guide adds charterer and stories to what you are looking at which I loved.

World famous historical remnants from BC 1000. Be advised to get a local guide to get the best oıt of this experience. The facility is well taken care with sign and posts but still you need more support. Entry fees for foreigners @27€ and 60₺ for TR citizens. Loads of good souvenirs at the shop to bring back home, good prices as well

It was an incredible experience, seeing the excavation sites and reading the information board to better understand and visualise what it was, from which period etc.
The surroundings were serene with birds chirping merrily and squirrels running around the relics. I would certainly return.

Place of history and interesting architecture from ancient times. Paired with ticket to the Museum there is plenty to see and discover. This place has a good shop where you can browse for city related items and textbooks about the history. Recommended to visit both the site and the museum for the full experience.

It was an amazing visit! We got there at noon and was so disappointed that the Trojan horse replica is being repaired but when we started walking around, we realized how remarkable the ruins are! Incredible that we are able to understand what transpired thousands of years ago in this same site!
We used our Muze Kart so we went in for free, the cafe is a great spot to sit in and freshen up.

Very nicely organized plase. Accurate updates about the condition in Google maps. It has all, and it is clean and could be reached by wheelchairs. Staff is friendly and ready to help. Nice, wide parking place.

If you are interested in history and archaeology, this place is definitely worth visiting. We spent about 2 hours here because there was a lot of ruins and information to digest. The parking costs 20 Lira. There is a small cafe inside. The horse is under construction but it is not the real deal here anyway.

Came here this morn amidst heavy showers and howling winds. Although it is opened at 8am, they only came at 8.30am to open for us to enter. As it is an open air museum, rain can posed a problem when visiting. The model horse was not open for visiting.

It was very nice to see the ruins of a city that was once very big and great. The museum was very nice but too far away to just walk. We got two taxis that would bring us there for 2 hours for 1000 lira total and they also brought us to the museum. Make sure to bring enough water because it's very hot

All I knew previous to this visit was the story of the Trojan Horse. What an amazing history and cultural education that is missed by not knowing the rest of the story. The city has 6,000 years of history and 10 separate layers of different periods of occupancy. Sadly for me the replication of the Trojan Horse was being restored during my visit so I could not see what the archaeologist rendition of the horse looked like as it was hidden behind a curtain.

If you’re into ancient archeological sites from antiquity, this place is a must see. The views of the surrounding plains from the mountain top are magnificent. It’s a definite treat for people who have read the Iliad or watched movies about Troy. You can really visualize and imagine how the ancient wars against this city would have taken place. Also once you see how tall and wide the Ancient walls of the city were, it becomes clear why aggressors weren’t able to penetrate it.

It is a much larger area than I expected. It appears that excavation work is still in progress. There is need for further development in providing information about the site. The walking platform is good, taking you on a circle tour around the site. Apart from these, the view is amazing.

Came here in September with a tour group.
If you have heard of Troy or the Trojan Horse this place is a must.
Although this ancient city is in ruins and nothing like the impressive Ephesus ancient city, it is still worth exploring the large site.
The Trojan Horse display unfortunately was under repair when we were there.

Went as part of a tour. It is a long day trip from Istanbul. I would do the 2 day package and combine Gallipoli if I had known in advance. Guide was full of knowledge. Interesting place to visit.
The actual horse from the movie Troy is not here but in a nearby town.

They’ve documented ten different settlement periods here over the span of 4,000 years. All these eras are exposed on the site at one point or another. Your expectations are too high if you’re expecting some cohesive, easily readable structure.
The setting is pretty majestic: it’s this high point surrounded by low lying farmland. Off in the distance at the horizon line you can make out a few burial mounds attributed to some of the heroes of the Iliad.
The fantastical tales of Greek literature from antiquity, as told by Aristophanes and Aeschylus or Euripides and Sophocles, are all rooted in this city of Troy and the epics of Homer. So coming here was such a thrill.

Troy was incredible. The myths surrounding it really bring it to life and seeing each layer of the historic cities is fascinating. The nearby town of cannakale has the trojan horse set piece from the movie troy. A great end to a memorable day.

I’ve dreamed about this place since I’ve read Iliad, Odyssey by Homer and Greek treasure by Irving Stone. It was really nice. Don’t expect too much it was hidden under the soil around 1000 years. But it’s great that now it’s possible to see this. Also I saw squirrels, five squirrels— five stars

The site is in ruins as a lot still needs excavating. The replica of the trojan horse was disappointing as it was being restored (looked like it hadn't been worked on for a long time. You can get a picture of what the trojan horse might look like at the gift shop.

I saw a review that said it wasn't worth it because it was just rocks and not much to see. Admittedly this will be more enjoyable if you're an archeologist or an avid fan of the tale, you can't always visualize yet if you pay attention or have a guide you can certainly appreciate the city. Also saw my first ever squirrel here and that definitely deserves its own star

The Selimiye Mosque, an impressive Ottoman imperial mosque dating back to around 1575, is a masterpiece by the renowned architect Mimar Sinan. With stunning 71m minarets and a grand dome, this iconic masjid of the Islamic world sits on a slight hill and boasts beautiful slender minarets that pierce the sky. Ornamented with exquisite details, it is one of Sinan's greatest works commissioned by Ottoman Sultans Suliman and Selim.
This is the greatest work of Mimar Sinan architect to Greatest Ottoman Suliman and Selim. It is on a slight hill and technically outstanding with beautiful slender minarets piercing the sky.
The Imam has beautiful voice. I loved the atmosphere and stayed there for long. It is an iconic masjid of Islamic world.

Selimiye Mosque is pearl of Edirne City. This place must be visited by everyone. Mimar Sinan one of the greatest architectures ever built this master piece in 16th century after commission of Sultan Selim2 in a small landmark or a hill. Mosque was selected as UNESCO World heritage site in 2011. But unfortunately 😔 there are big constructions going on in Selimiye Mosque which will last until 2027 for information ℹ️. Also for Muslims after visiting new Mosque doesn't matter where and size of it, it's Sunnah to pray 2 rakkah namaz as Tahiyyat-al-Masjid.

The square mosque with its single great dome and four slender minarets, dominates the skyline of the former Ottoman capital of Edirne. Sinan, the most famous of Ottoman architects in the 16th century, considered Selimiye to be his best work. The construction of the mosque started in 1568 and finished in 1575. Sultan Selim II, who commissioned the mosque, died in December 1574, before he was able to see the mosque fully completed. Selimiye Mosque, with its whole complex, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011. The ongoing restoration the mosque is planned to be finished until the summer of 2023.

Levent Cakaloglu — Google review
The Selimiye is the greatest of all the Ottoman mosque complexes, the apogee of an art form and the culmination of a life’s ambition for its architect, Sinan. Built on a slight hill, the mosque is a prominent landmark. Its complex includes a medrese, housing the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, a school and the Kavaflar Arasta, a covered bazaar. Selim II commissioned the mosque. It was begun in 1569 and completed in 1575, a year after his death. The dome was Sinan’s proudest achievement. In his memoirs, he wrote: “With the help of Allah and the favour of Sultan Selim Khan, I have succeeded in building a cupola six cubits wider and four cubits deeper than that of Haghia Sophia.” In fact, the dome is comparable in diameter and slightly shallower than the building Sinan had so longed to surpass.
Ablutions Fountain
Intricate, pierced carving decorates the top of the 16-sided open şadırvan (ablutions fountain), which stands in the centre of the courtyard. The absence of a canopy helps to retain the uncluttered aspect.
Minarets
The mosque’s four slender minarets tower to a height of 84 m (275 ft). Each one has three balconies. The two northern minarets contain three intertwining staircases, each one leading to a different balcony
Dome
The 43 m (141 ft) dome dominates the interior of the mosque. Not even the florid paintwork the original 16thcentury decoration underwent restoration in the 19th century detracts from its effect.
Sultan’s Loge
The imperial loge is supported on green marble columns. They are connected by pointed arches; whose surrounds are adorned with floral İznik tiles. Unusually, its ornately decorated mihrab contains a shuttered window, which opened on to countryside when the mosque was built
The Interior
The mosque is the supreme achievement of Islamic architecture. Its octagonal plan allows for a reduction in the size of the buttresses supporting the dome. This permitted extra windows to be incorporated, making the interior exceptionally light.

You can see that they’ve put in a bit of effort in getting the surrounding areas neat & clean. The mosque was undergoing renovations but you could still walk into the centre and see the amazing work carried out centuries ago.

The Selimiye Mosque was built at the peak of Ottoman military and cultural power. Sultan Selim II, the son and successor of Suleiman the Magnificent, chose Edirne instead of Istanbul (the Ottoman capital) as the location to build his own sultanic mosque. The reasons for this decision are a matter of debate among historians.[5] Selim II appeared to have a passion for the city, having served as its governor between 1548 and 1550, and he visited it frequently after becoming sultan.[6][7] Edirne, a former Ottoman capital, was also one of the most important cities in the empire and a major stop on the imperial highway between Istanbul and the Balkan provinces.[6][7] Other motivations may have included the fact that there were no more prominent hilltop sites in Istanbul available for the construction of an imperial mosque complex – at least not without resorting to mass expropriations.[8][7] At the time of the mosque's commission, Selim II had also not commanded a victorious military campaign, which Islamic scholars of the time considered to be a requirement for building a sultanic mosque in Istanbul.[8]
In March 1568 Selim II had asked Sinan to renovate the city's Old Mosque. Plans for a new imperial mosque, located on the hilltop above the Old Mosque, were probably begun around the same time.[6] Construction on the mosque was begun in 1568 or 1569 (976 AH) and completed in 1574 or 1575 (982 AH).[9][10][11] The mosque's construction and its waqf (charitable endowment) were ultimately funded with the help of the sultan's share of the spoils from the successful conquest of Cyprus, which was completed in 1571 with the surrender of Famagusta.[9] Selim II died in December 1574, before he was able to see the mosque fully completed.[12]
Later history
Edit
The mosque underwent its first repairs by Sinan in 1584, after minor damage caused by lightning. An earthquake in 1752 also caused minor damage.[13] In 1808 some of the calligraphic decoration in the mosque was restored and a roof was added over the courtyard fountain, though it has since disappeared. During the reign of Abdülmecid I (1839–1861), the mosque's interior was re-plastered and its decoration redone, in a style partially imitating the former ornamentation.[13]
In 1865 Baha'u'llah, the founder of the Baha'i Faith, arrived with his family to Edirne as a prisoner of the Ottoman Empire and resided in a house near Selimiye Mosque,[14] which he visited often until 1868. It was at Selimiye mosque[15] where he was supposed to have had an open debate with Mírzá Yaḥyá Núrí (also known by the title of Ṣubḥ-i-Azal), an important event in the split of the Bábi Faith, which ultimately resulted in the formation of the Baha'i Faith guided by Baha'u'llah and the Azali Bábi Faith guided by Mírzá Yaḥyá.[16]
During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878, some of the decorative tiles on the walls of the sultan's loge were looted and transferred to Moscow.[17][13] During the siege of the city in 1913, the dome of the mosque was damaged by artillery fire. On the orders of Atatürk, traces of the damage were left unrestored, as a reminder and warning to future generations. Soon after, at the end of the Second Balkan War, some of the mosque's oldest carpets were stolen by retreating Bulgarian troops.[13]
The mosque underwent restorations between 1954 and 1971, and some parts were also restored 1982 and 1984.[17] The mosque was depicted on the reverse of the Turkish 10,000 lira banknotes of 1982-1995.[18] In late 2021 another comprehensive restoration project on the mosque began, scheduled to be completed by 2025.[19]

Very beautiful mosque and Edirne’s most iconic attraction, unfortunately it’s under restoration and maintenance so don’t bother coming a long way for it, but surely after the restoration is over it’ll once again show its magnificent beauty to everyone.

At the moment is undergoing maintenance work inside and out (until 2025). You can still get inside but it’s not worth it because you can’t see anything.

A UNESCO world heritage site and architectural masterpiece for the big open space on the inside. Be sure to follow the customs, remove your shoes before stepping on the carpet and inside, wear clothes that go beyond your shoulders and knees and women wear a headscarf. Also a nice surrounding area with various museums and a bazaar, and very close to the town centre.

Gölyazı is a town in Turkey situated on a tiny peninsula on Lake Uluabat. This place has existed since the Ancient Greek era, and remnants from the Roman period are plenty. The Stork Festival is held annually in this town, which was once home to Greeks and Manavlar until the 20th century.
