Very beautiful architecture, however the restoration is not good at all. Some places of the building looks very young, and there are also some railings from glass! Except restoration, it is really a nice place to see :)

Kasımiye Madrasah in Mardin is a site of great historical significance and architectural beauty, often acclaimed by visitors for its stunning views and remarkable construction. Built against a hill close to the center of old Mardin, the madrasah offers breathtaking views over the plains of Mesopotamia. The architecture of the building, with its beautiful stone structure and intricate details, captures the essence of the region's rich history.
An interesting feature inside the madrasah is a pool, known as the 'fountain of life,' symbolizing various stages of life, from infancy to senectitude and death. This pool adds a unique dimension to the historical and educational significance of the madrasah. Visitors often appreciate the symbolism and the opportunity to learn about the site's history.
One aspect to note is that if the weather in Mardin is foggy, it might obstruct the otherwise spectacular views around the building. The madrasah was an important educational center in its time, serving both religious and scientific education, and it was one of the most important in the area during its peak.
The madrasah is easily reachable by car or taxi and is located on the southwest outskirts of Mardin. It's recommended to set aside about an hour for the visit, and there's a symbolic entry fee. The best time for photography enthusiasts might be around 3:00 PM or during sunset for breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
In summary, Kasımiye Madrasah is not just a historic site but a journey into the rich cultural and educational past of the region, offering a unique blend of architectural grandeur and profound symbolism

Wonderful place to be during sunset for its colors, reflections and shades. And the view/sunset over Mesopotamia is incredible too. When you want to see all, including upstairs/balcony than you have to be there before 4pm. Upstairs closes at 4pm. Depending on photo shoots times can vary but round 5pm - 5.30pm everybody has to leave.

This is a building with different architectural specifications, a beautiful pool that changes the atmosphere, some old designs on the walls and that's it. The whole experience would take up to 20 minutes if you take a very good look. Once you enter, the paid area is not worth paying, just go right.

The courtyard of the mosque now consists of a rectangle, as we are accustomed to when visiting Mardin, and there is constantly flowing and fresh water here. The mosque was built on the basis that the faithful believers are closest to God during prayer, as in typical Seljuk architecture, the first row is kept longer and more Muslims share the same taste... Being a little bit inside keeps it away from those who do not know it. The engravings on the inner and outer courtyards of the mosque are wonderful, while the interior is kept equally simple, except for the mihrab, but it still makes you feel its magnificence. It has an imam with a very pleasant voice. Resting with awe during prayer time gives another level of peace.

The Grand Mosque in Mardin is a stunning architectural masterpiece that transports you to a different time and place. The intricate design and historical significance of this mosque are truly awe-inspiring. It's a must-visit for anyone exploring Mardin. The peaceful atmosphere and rich history make it a unique experience. Highly recommended.

Built in year 1100, the architecture is magnificent. The Masjid is Located in a central position in Upper Mardin as the people of Mardin, local people call it.
It is a good example of “Artuklu” period architecture and made of pure cut stone. The mosque dome is a segmented structure created with the external track technology. Years later, this technique became the traditional Mardin technique.

Nice serene place, solid "romanesque-like" architecture. A little more informatiin about the history would have been nice.

A piece of city history, one of the oldest. The minaret dominates the view from far away. I suggest to approach this beautiful and full of atmosphere mosque from the narrow streets of the old bazaar.

One of the epic Mosque in Mardin. It also has the hair of Prophet Mohammad PBUH’s beard preserved.

Built in 1199 by Artuk dynasty, it is by far one of the oldest in Turkey. It also equally encloses an islamic school within its compound and a compartment in wall of the mosque holding the blessed Holy Hair of Hazrat Maulana Muhammed Mustafa SAW. The architecture of the mosque is quite wonderful and its environment serene and inspiring.

This is a great place to visit but I was a bit shocked by the behaviour of the families using it. Children were racing around inside whilst men were trying to pray and nobody was controlling them. They were even climbing all over the minbar!! The minaret is gorgeous.

Imposing educational & spiritual complex completed in 1385 with a small mosque & courtyards.
Even for Mardin's standards extraordinary. It bolsters with glorious roof top view and intriquing inner part.

Very spectacular place with amazing panoramic views of the entire city. We went there on a weekend at sunset and the golden hour made everything even more beautiful. However, there were around 6-7 brides doing photoshoots before their wedding. So if you want to avoid getting bothered by photographers asking you every minute to move away from their angle, you should consider visiting this place during the week. Also, women should wear pants. If not, they give one at the entrance. So that’s cool too.

The Mardin Tarihi Emir Hamamı is a popular tourist attraction in Turkey that offers an authentic and traditional Turkish bath experience. The staff are friendly and welcoming, providing clear instructions despite the language barrier. At a reasonable price of 50 liras, visitors can enjoy a thorough scrub, soap treatment, and a brief massage. Although the sauna could have been hotter, the overall experience lasts about an hour but guests are welcome to stay longer and utilize the sauna if desired.
This is the best turkish bath in turkey, the people there is so kind and friendly, the one who do the scrub is very professional and know his job.
The prices are so cute, I have been there for each evening, it is also very clean and the services are so good.
I can’t wait to go there again. Best luck for you guys.
I totally recommend this bath…. For 100 stars ⭐️

If you're a person who enjoys shared saunas, it's worth a visit. It's nice, but very basic. Previous posts said it was 50TL, for an obvious foreigner like me it was 100. That included a peeling & a massage, which were both very short & basic. Nice to experience this part of life here, but don't go in expecting anything luxurious.
Rebecca Peters — Google review
I asked the quote in Turkish which at first was 150 and then they discussed something in Arabic or Kurdish and bumped the price up to 250. There is an obvious difference in price for locals/foreigners. Didn't go as I don't like being ripped off.

Zoltan Karda — Google review
Didn’t know what to expect as it was my first hamam. Very friendly staff. Showed me what to do although they spoke virtually no English. 50 liras which I believe is cheap. Fully scrub, soap, and brief massage. Sauna was nice but didn’t get very hot. Whole experience was about one hour but could have stayed longer and used the sauna and hung out if I wanted. Place looked authentic and traditional. Recommend!
Chris W — Google review
Its an very old traditional hammam. They are not too harsh on tourist for scrubbing and it costed 80 Liras plus 20 Liras tip which they expect. Do not expect a luxurious treatment here as local people also come there on regular basis. Overall it was a new experience.

The Şehidiye Mosque, constructed in a traditional Ottoman architectural style, is an impressive edifice located in a prominent area. This remarkable structure showcases intricate designs and meticulous craftsmanship. With its towering minarets and grand dome, the mosque stands as a symbol of religious devotion and cultural heritage. Its spacious interior creates a serene atmosphere, providing worshippers with the perfect setting for prayer and reflection.
The Sakıp Sabancı Mardin City Museum, situated in a former army barracks, showcases the rich and diverse heritage of Mardin. The museum features a variety of exhibits and artifacts that represent the city's cosmopolitan past. The museum also has an art gallery downstairs that hosts exhibitions by renowned Turkish photographers. The beautifully restored building is accessible to everyone with air conditioning and seating areas available for visitors' convenience.
Interesting museum about Mardins history, we especially liked the section about rugs.
Marija Šikić — Google review
Beautiful building but badly managed museum.
I am sure the Sabancı family had good intentions but due to missing indications and the bad manners/arrogance of the too numerous employees the visit is not pleasant.
Spend your time at the Mardin Museum which has lovely staff and significantly more important collection.
All in all, a museum with potential and clear points to improve.

For my love for Mardin and its history, I have come to love this museum a lot because it has captured almost all and everything Mardin. A careful and detailed tour of this museum in just some few hours, helps take you throughout Mardin chronologically and in modernity. The christian Mardin, Islamic Mardin, cultural Mardin, industrial and occupational Mardin, etc. Moreover, entrance is free for student group with a teacher. I most seriously recommend this wonderful museum and it is surely one of the must-see of Turkey.

When we landed in Mardin, our hotel concierge suggested we start at this museum, to get our bearings. She was right. This relatively new museum, run by one of Turkey's biggest conglomerates, Sabanci Holding, was a good starting point to understand the history of Mardin. This is Mesopothamia. -- where civilzation began. There is so many layers of culture and history that really, one must read volumes before arriving here. If not, then the Sabanci musum is the perfect 'summary' to understand what you'll be experiencing in this city over the course of your visit. Do pay the minimal entrance fee ( I think it was less than 2 usd) and take a quick tour. The building itself is gorgeous, and the depth of information shared is very useful. I wish I had taken more photographs, but I was unsure if I was allowed - hence the poor quality of what I have to share. Yet, I will still share for the sake of sharing. Enjoy

It is forbidden to perform ablution in the restroom of this museum!
I had never heard such a ridiculous prohibition before.
Before starting to explore the museum, I went to the restroom to refresh my ablution and then planned to visit the museum. However, it seemed that a security guard was waiting at the entrance, and he informed me that ablution was prohibited inside. You can wash your hands and even your feet, but performing ablution is not allowed. I have never seen or heard of such a thing before. Upon hearing this, I decided to leave without exploring the museum. I cannot comment on the museum itself because of this incident.
What a shame, really!

1500 year old. Full of history and still in use for worshipping so quite unique place. There is 1500 year old pagan worship place. So amazing that they put about 20 stones each 1.5 tons on the roof without any adhesive. I was stocked that how they did it. They used 45 degrees 📐 angled stones. That was on 500 AD. Amazing.

I am so happy that this monastery is not ignored and being cared by its community very well. The monastery is very serene and beautiful, there is an entrance fee and you are being briefly informed by Syriac guys about its history. Many parts are closed for visitors and I guess it is because of its current use, it is still being used as a worship centre. The garden is well designed and the location is about half an hour from Mardin city centre. It is certainly worth seeing.

Great ancient city to visit, short ride from Mardin. The complex is divided into 4 different sites. Loved the two cisterns.

Awesome place to visit. If in the Mardin area this is a must see. My wife and I spent about 3 hours vising all the sites in Dara (2 cisterns, ancient city, tombs). Day we visited some kids were chasing a mentally challenged adult and throwing rocks at him. The town itself is very dirty and its kind of depressing to see people literally living in structures (using structures loosely) built on top of one of the 2,000 year old cisterns. With all this said still worth visiting. Going between the sites I would suggest driving versus walking.
EveryDayGlory ! — Google review
One of the most amazing sites of southern Turkey. Dara was one of the most important cities of the later Romano-Persian wars and was the site of the only located battle. Much of the city is still there, including a full stretch of wall, a quarry, the agora, and the necropolis. Most impressive by far are the various water features. Atop the acropolis is a castellum aquae for handling water brought in via aqueduct and there are two giant and intact cisterns that you can descend into. Well worth seeing if you have the time!

Unbelievable place. One of the best Roman ruins that I saw during my travels around the world. This place is huge and consists of many objects, including massive water cisterns, bridges, agora, roads, walls, houses and other ancient Roman structures. I feel like this place deserves much more attention that it has now. History buffs can easily spend a whole day exploring it. And even for regular tourists it's worth to spend at least 3-4 hours in this area.
Jans Glagolevs — Google review
Called the "Ephesus of Mesopotamia" the ruins of the ancient Dara are only 30 km from the center of Mardin city. Until 2008, they were completely underground, virtually arousing no interest. Due to the aforementioned proximity to the border with Syria, as well as remoteness from the west coast of Türkiye, no local excursion programs took this area into account. In the old days, Dara was one of the most important settlements on the Silk Road. In antiquity, it was an important fortress in northern Mesopotamia, on the border with the Sassanid Empire. In the 6th century, the largest Byzantine field army in the south was stationed in Dara, and the city itself was a complex complex of civilian buildings, baths, water reservoirs and public places.
J. S. — Google review
Definitely must see ancient town!
Dara, an important East Roman fortress city dating back year of 530. Ancient city is huge and modern town of Dara is now situated on the ruins which are clearly seen. People continue living in ancient city, we can say. Grave area is well kept and welcomes you as a first stop. Necropol, dungeon, and a King Seat is a bit away, in village centre. Anyone visiting Mardin shouldn’t miss this forgettable experience.
Suha Guvenc — Google review
This place is so beautiful but it is totally neglected. There is not any service ( just a small cafe at the entrance) around this area like it is abandoned or something. Carelessness makes this place underappreciated. There was trash everywhere even in the cistern. People are so insensitive about this. It was so upsetting to see historical places in this position. Government should take responsibility about this unique place but there is nothing. Even discovery of this place is not completed yet. There is a huge area to be discovered. I hope someday it will get the real value it deserves in the right hands.

Since there are no guards or staff in the parks, children and young people break and destroy everything for fun. There are no big trees in Yilmaz South Park. It gets too hot and sunny. That's why not many people go there. It's not worth going.

Dalal Bridge, also known as Pira Delal, is a historic stone bridge that spans the Khabur River in Zakho. It is believed to have origins dating back to the Roman era and has become a symbol of peace and enjoyment for Kurdish people. According to legend, the builder's hands were amputated to ensure its uniqueness.
We loved our stay in Duhok and Zakho, plenty to see and we easily walked around the town and to the various sights including Al-abbasiyah (Dalal) bridge which can still be walked over. The river under it leads down through the town so the walk is very pleasant.

Zaxo City boasts a unique blend of traditional charm and modern vibrancy. The bustling bazaars offer a delightful array of local crafts and spices, while contemporary cafes and restaurants cater to diverse tastes. The city’s historical sites, like the ancient citadel, provide a captivating journey through time. However, traffic congestion can be a drawback, affecting the overall experience. Despite this, Zaxo City’s cultural richness and dynamic atmosphere make it a compelling destination for both history enthusiasts and those seeking a taste of contemporary Kurdish life.

Hi !
Pira Delal is believed to have been first built during the Roman era, while the present structure appears to be from the Abbasic era. Kurdish people all over Kurdistan visit the great Pira Delal as a monument of peace and enjoyment with the family.[2][3] One of the legends regarding construction of the bridge relates that the hands of the builder were amputated to ensure that the bridge would remain unique.

This bridge is basically the only thing to see in in Zakho. We drove the hour or so in the summer heat to see it, and yes it was worth it. If only there was some information, even online there is very little to glean. If it wasn't for the heat we would have hung about some more, but the midday sun had us running back to Dohuk.
In retrospect, I would have made this part of a day trip, first see this bridge, then go to Amedi and finish the day off with the climb up to Goes Mountain / Saddam Hussein's summer palace.

It is a beautiful bridge with a beautiful story and architecture. But unfortunately he falls victim to wrong projects and designs. Protect this area. This place has an identity, please don't be like everywhere else. There are statues of two great Kurdish artists in this area, Eyaz and Erdewan Zaxoyî. This feels so good. This project is about the construction of a commercial and entertainment center and a hypermarket. It is one of the largest of its kind in Iraq, where it will attract the attention of tourists from the middle and south of Iraq, and this will be the result of many business opportunities.
Total area: (145,587 m2), it consists of three floors and two underground floors for parking, where it is possible to add (2000) cars, as well as owning an area of (52,000 m2) for entertainment, and it includes more than (114) places and brands except hypermarket. Carrefour, and many cafes and cafeterias, restaurants, cinemas, and interior design.

A small mall in Tenahi. It is at 20minutes walking distance from Nawroz University as well as Avro City. A good place for shopping in Tenahi. I think this is the only mall in Tenahi. Apart from Carrefour you can find various Stores here like apparel, footwears sports wear, max, sketchers, etc. There are several kiosks also where you can taste icecream, buy beauty creams, perfumes, sim cards and recharge coupons etc.
Korek as well as Faslink is available there. For money transfer there's Western Union office too. On top floor there are some coffee as well as eateries. There's olay area for kids too.
Major drawback is that there's no cinema hall here.
Duhok Mall
Duhok Mall is a mid-range mall, Duhok Mall consists of several fast food and clothing malls. Duhok Mall presents itself as a marketplace of opportunity, touting inclusivity by hiring females within its workforce. However, this seemingly positive aspect is overshadowed by the glaring drawbacks prevalent throughout the establishment.
Foremost among these issues is the exorbitant pricing strategy adopted across all facets of the mall. Every item, from clothing to groceries, carries an inflated price tag that seems divorced from any sense of reason or value. This pricing disparity makes it an impractical choice for the average consumer, rendering basic purchases an expensive ordeal.
The shopping experience within the mall is further dampened by the limited diversity in its offerings. The range of stores and their respective selections fall short of providing a comprehensive and engaging shopping experience. The lack of variety fails to cater to the diverse tastes and needs of the clientele, leaving much to be desired.
Moreover, while the decision to employ females is commendable, it doesn't mitigate the core issues plaguing the establishment. The promise of inclusivity within their hiring practices is overshadowed by the lackluster shopping experience and the steep financial burden placed on consumers.
Adding to the frustration is the poor value proposition in terms of quality versus cost. The high prices are not reflected in the quality of goods or services provided. This incongruity further alienates potential customers who seek value for their money.
In summary, while the initiative to hire females is a step in the right direction, Duhok Mall falls short in delivering a satisfying shopping experience. The excessively high prices, lack of variety, and absence of value for money overshadow any positive aspects, making it an unappealing choice for both consumers and prospective employees alike.

A place to go with family and friends. There are statues, gardens, kids play area. Statue and the throne is placed on a platform on the upper level which can be reached by a large ramp. Park has been made on several levels connected by staircase. So normally we enter and get to the top level through the ramp and from there we take staircase to go down to other levels from the three sides. Ample sitting space too. Kids Play area and other walkways are on the lower level but the door has been closed. So one need to take another entrance from outside for the park.
No cafeteria or anything to eat or drink.

Nestled in the mountains of Dohuk, Iraq, the Rabban Hormizd Monastery is a significant site for Chaldean Christians. Founded in 640 AD, this monastery offers stunning views of the Nineveh plains and features a newly restored synagogue at the tomb of the prophet Nahum. While it has not been actively used for many years, it remains an important historical and religious site.
Rabban Hormizd Monastery, what can i say about it.
It is one of the most beautiful and spiritual places i’ve ever been to.
The views are breathtaking, every angle of this place tells a story.
There was barely anyone in the Monastery “which was more than fine with me i get to enjoy the views with my wife lol”
The only thing that it’s better to go with someone who lives in Alqosh and knows the area, is went with a friend who’s from the city of Alqosh.
Find a tour guide to make it easier for u to reach this amazing place, pay few pennies but 100% worth it.

A must visit site in Iraq and Kurdistan. Don’t miss this historical monastery built in 4th century.
Tips:
Don’t fly your drone if you don’t have Asayish permission (intelligence police).
Ladies don’t have to cover up their hair.
You can enter with your shoes on.
There are bathrooms behind the church toward the valley.
There aren’t any shops so bring your water and snack.
They have closed so many other parts due to the wrong behavior of some tourists and influencers. The only open part is the modern pard and the ancient part which is connected to the modern part.
They open at 9:00 am and it is closed from 12:30 to 14:00 for their lunch break.
It opens from 14:00 to 17:00 again.
To enter the village sometimes at the main checkpoint they do not let some people who do not have permission or prearrangement.
It is highly protected because it is a purely Christian village.

About a 2 hour drive from Erbil, the Rabban Hormizd Monastery is a must visit for anyone interested in Kurdistan's rich history. Founded in 640 AD by Assyrian Church of the East, it was official residence of the patriarchs of the church for centuries.
We were fortunate enough to have the whole monastery to ourselves on our visit so we could take our time to explore inside, including seeing Rabban Hormizd's cell and the former entrance to the monastery as well as admiring the views.

This is one of those places that should be at the top of any visit to the Dohuk region. The position of the monastery looking out over the Nineveh plains, yet perched high in the mountains is stunning. The nearby newly restored synogue on the site of the tomb of the prophet Nahum helps give a visual emphasis to his prophecies of doom over Nineveh (Modern Mosul)
This site is very important to the Chaldean Christians, yet it has not been used actively for many years. It is well looked after, and has clearly benefited from an injection of cash.
Importantly, the site is open 8 to 13.00, then from 14.30 to 18.00. Of course we turned up at 1pm, but it meant we had time to go into the nearby Christian town of Al Qosh, and explored the aforementioned synagogue and some of the other churches. Not that we could get in to any of them, they were all fiemly locked.
Lastly, we benefited massively from Ehab, who is one of the local Police 'guards' of the site. He has excellent English and gave us a really good feel of the place, some of the history, and told some of his own interesting story.
