The National Park of Dartmoor is a large area full of rugged landscape waiting to be explored. There are a number of villages throughout the park, as well as Dartmoor Prison and Castle Drogo. The national park also holds events and activities throughout the year for visitors of all ages.
Saw some waterfalls, some wild ponies, some brilliant scenery and a goat. The Dartmoor is a fabulous place. Will see more on this latest trip to Devon. Plenty to do and see for all ages. Do yourself a favour and visit here if you're in the area.

A beautiful place with great walks and fabulous views. Lots of Dartmoor ponies roam around, along with sheep. Please drive cautiously as the sheep do wander into the road. Fantastic sunsets, and if you're lucky, you may even see a simultaneous moon rise as we did during early August.

Impossible not to like the exuberant beauty of Dartmoor park, very well signposted trails will take you to places where you can observe spectacular views in the midst of wildlife.
Wild ponies can be easily seen freely grazing which will give an even more special charm during your walk.

Love Dartmoor, great walks and the ability to get miles away from any civilisation is great! Challenging terrain, don’t go unprepared if you’re going to head deep into the moor! Weather can be horrendous and change quickly.
River crossings are not uncommon!

So glad to have this just down the road from me! So many great walks to be had across the moors, and a lot of history to be learned. I love finding the old ruins and stone circles, seeing the ponies, and taking photos. Sunny weather is ideal but it's much better when the fog rolls in!
BecomeTheAtlas — Google review
Amazing amazing amazing. This is a must to go to visit. Such an idyllic place to go. Very dog friendly and kid friendly a massive expanse to go investigate. So much to do and experience I honestly can't say enough great things about it. The pubs, parks, walks, views all spectacular!!
Chris Allum — Google review
Love it here. Peaceful and a lovely place to walk. We saw sheep with their young, ponies, birds of prey, and heard cuckoo's calling as well as many wild flowers. Unfortunately, there were people allowing their dogs to run wild despite signs stating they should be on leads. There were lots of sheep with young lambs. These places are for all of us to enjoy. Your enjoyment shouldn't encroach on others or the creatures that live there

Love it on Dartmoor, no better place to relax and just breathe fresh air. The wildlife and animals make it such a peaceful place
OMGJaydenTV — Google review
A beautiful, natural and historic area with great views, walks, wild animals and landmarks. It can get windy and cold up here, but the fresh air is lovely

This place is HUGE. Got the trains there to spend a few hours there in the beautiful, mesmerising, tranquil countryside. It's stunning scenery stretches for miles. Loved every minute. Thank goodness for Google maps and a very kind passerby to put me in the right direction. After seeing the 9 stone circle advertised on Google Maps had to go on an adventure to see it.

Fantastic, hauntingly beautiful area with ancient rock outcroppings. You could see into the faded horizon. The children climbed the subtle grade and jumped on rocks. Wonder and wander and freedom to your own thoughts.
Deborah Waddington — Google review
Dartmoor is an incredibly beautiful location, and it is fat more diverse than many people realise. The main town, Prince Town, and the prison are well worth a visit, but better still, pull on a pair of boots and head out for the solitude of the tors spread across the Moor.
The weather can, and often does, change very rapidly on the Moor. Make sure you are well equipped for bad weather. Also, make sure you have plenty of water and snacks when out on hikes.
DMJ AM — Google review
Very scenic and interesting location, also good for children and dogs. Many Dartmoor ponies, sheep and Highland cattle can be seen. However, the weather has it´s own plans and you should always take a jacket or rain gear with you.
Sarina Cl A — Google review
Wow stunning even in the rain!! The ponies running wild made our visit.
Janet Marshall — Google review
This was the most peaceful I have found myself for a good time. With always being in a city you can forget that just some silence, fresh air and a good walk can do.
I don't know when but I'm defo gonna bring myself here again.
Also bring snacks and be prepared to have a big bladder because theres a lack on amenities around here.
Joshua Wilkinson-Gavin — Google review
Your experience and enjoyment of dartmoor really depends on the weather. On a good sunny day everything is clear, you can have enjoyable and easy walks. On the other hand, torrent rain and wind can really make it miserable. Be prepared for both conditions as weather here can change within a blink of an eye.
Anthony Chan — Google review
Love this place so much.
Please please don't just go to haytor!
There are much better places on either side.
And please get out of sight of your car even if just for a little stroll.
Cannot recommend more!

We recently had a fantastic stay at ' the chapel ' at Lettaford. A landmark trust property, right on the edge of Dartmoor. A really peaceful and quite small hamlet, consisting of four previously working farms. Loads of history and lovely walks, as short or as long as you want. No mobile signal and no WiFi, just a small stream bubbling away next to the chapel.

Love being here. The peace, the wildlife and the scenery. I just wish drivers would be a little more considerate of the roaming animals.

Was so surprised at how beautiful this place is, the inside of Royal William is amazing, loads of restaurants, bars and open spaces to relaxing and get some food and drinks. Would love to visit again in the summer when I'm sure it has a great chilled vibe. Great views of the sea and a nice place to relax.

3 night stay with friends.
Had a lovely, well equipped apartment with a fantastic view.
Ate at Wildwood and Pho, both very enjoyable restaurants with friendly helpful staff.
RWY is a fabulous place to stay and use as a base to visit other locations.

There needs to be more there plus public bathrooms. March it's desolate. Nice walks great part along the water but a whole of nothing much. Could be a great tourist area with more tourist stores and things to do. It's a great space but boring

Went to RWY to hear some live music on Friday as one of the free events put on and then dinner at Pho. Really enjoyable evening with friends and Wimbledon was streamed on a big screen on the lawn.
Great place to relax, we took our own snacks and drinks for the music but there is plenty of choice of venues to eat and drink

Royal William Yard is a fabulous combination of Plymouth's historic naval past with a unique, award-winning design. It is also known as the yard, and is home to an impressive collection of Grade I listed buildings. Recently underwent a conversion to a mixed-use development, making it one of the best places to eat, shop, work, stay, relax and play in the heart of the South West. Offers something new to experience with every visit and remains one of the country's most magnificent industrial monuments. It's definitely a much-loved destination, with a packed calendar of events and plenty to see and do, including its amazing panoramic views. Highly recommend at any time of the year

Great place to spend an hour or two. Plenty of history and views across the water. Good places to sit and take it all in and have a drink and food. Catch the ferry across to Mount Edgecombe.

Royal William Yard is a really stylish development to the south west of Plymouth. There are independent and chain restaurants and retail all arranged sensitively within beautiful old architecture and right next to the water. There are lots of great photo opportunities around the area, which looks out onto the miniature islands nearby and to the ocean on the south side. You can also get a ferry around the headlands, depending on tides and weather. It’s well worth a visit.
Matthew Price — Google review
I have visited the Royal William Yard on several occasions and it's my go to place when staying in Plymouth.
.
The area has been magnificently restored by Urban Splash and a significant number of the former military buildings have been converted into apartments, restaurants, businesses, and leisure venues.
.
Day or night, there is always something new to discover when exploring the areas surrounding the 'yard' and for a novice photographer like me, the location offers a wonderful mix of buildings and scenery to capture.
.
I've stayed in private let's and rooms by Bistrot Pierre and all offer their own individual charm. The area has a real community feel and is definitely not a commercial tourist trap, which is surprising to those that haven't visited because many of the restaurants are part of larger chains. Don't let this put you off, each venue is very in keeping with the vibe.
.
The location of the William Yard means that Plymouth city centre is only a short journey by car or public transport. It's also really easy to access the Tamar Bridge to make a day trip to Cornwall.
.
In summary, if you're heading to Plymouth forget staying in the city centre and go for the Royal William Yard. You definitely won't regret it

Visited Food and Craft Day at Royal William Yard in Plymouth today. A really geat experience for both food enthusiasts and those, like me who enjoy unique craft products. Taking place on the first Sunday of each month, this event showcases a diverse range of locally sourced produce and an amazing variety of craft products available for you to purchase.
One of the standout features of this event is the incredible range of locally sourced produce on offer. Aside from the food offerings, the Food and Craft Day also boasts an amazing range of craft products.
Thie event is free to enter, allowing visitors to explore and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere without any additional costs. However, it's important to note that parking fees apply if you drive to Royal William Yard. To make the most of your day, I would recommend arriving mid-morning to avoid the crowds and ensure you have ample time to explore all the stalls and sample the delicious food on offer.
In summary, the Food and Craft Day at Royal William Yard in Plymouth offers a delightful experience for everyone. The incredible range of locally sourced produce and the amazing variety of crafts make it a must-visit event for food and craft enthusiasts. Just remember to arrive mid-morning to beat the crowds, and be prepared for parking fees. I accidentally called this number looking for a different company of the same name. The woman who answered was abusive and extremely rude towards me and my company - she has never met or spoken to me before and knows nothing of my business but felt she was in a position to criticise me personally and professionally. I wouldn't stay here and would advise others to avoid it as well if this is the way she feels is reasonable to speak to entire strangers.

The Theatre Royal Plymouth is a prominent performing arts venue in the city, known for its diverse program of shows and events. It is the largest regional producing theatre in the UK and offers a wide range of performances throughout the year. The Lyric, one of its performance spaces, hosts various musicals and other large-scale productions, often brought directly from London's West End. Additionally, The Drum presents dramas and comedy-theatre performances, providing something for every taste.
TRP in Pymouth is an outstandingly arena for shows and performers. There are the Stalls and 3 Circle tier levels, Lower, Middle and Upper. Full capacity is 3,500. Admittedly the seats in the Stalks are somewhat cramped but not unduly. Whilst in the 3 Circle levels, which have small safety barriers for obvious reasons. Giving more leg room. Also, there are mini binoculars for hire for £1 on the Upper Circle seats if you should desire to use them. There is capacity for any disability to watch shows/performers at various locations in the Stalls section, or at the side of the front rows. The Emergency exits are readily visible with staff ALWAYS visible and at hand if needed. Sometimes photography is NOT allowed. So don't try to be clever. You WILL be spotted and stopped from breaching the performers/ shows copyright rights.

Not a bad seat in the house. I've been here for many shows, downstairs and upstairs and all the seats are good. They always have a good selection of shows from critical faves to jukebox musicals from the West End. Staff are friendly. The location is good.

Very easy to get to and parking was right next door. Very easy ways to pay contactless for car parking. Staff very welcoming and efficient. Show was excellent. Seating was more comfortable than I thought as we were sat for 3 hours. View was excellent even from the budget seat we had. Very easy to get out especially as there were 1300 people all leaving at the same time.

Visited for the panto at Christmas with family. My teenagers enjoyed it. Visually it was amazing. Seemed a bit short but nevertheless we had a great night out. Ice-cream is a must at the interval.

Awesome show, tonight. Joe Pasquale knows how to knock out a panto, alright! Staff were exceptionally helpful, friendly and polite. Shows are NOT socially distanced, so please be aware of that fact before you book. Seats could be a little wider, so if you're bigger built, try an aisle seat or the arm rests might dig in slightly. Otherwise, fantastic, clean good atmosphere, all at a decent price.

A gem of a place!! We went to see the Welsh National Opera La Traviata. It was outstanding!! The leading lady had an incredible voice!! & the cast were brilliant. Costume & set design were beyond fabulous.
Staff were really friendly. Highly recommended!!
My only grizzle was that when we arrived, a woman had selfishly stolen our seat, to pile up all her coats!! So our view was slightly obstructed by the top of the balcony as we had to shift along one seat. Not the Theatre's fault though.
A cloakroom (chargeable) to leave coats would help!!

Went to see 'And then there were none', booked late and got a seat in the upper circle. On arrival found that the upper circle was empty apart from the first three rows, found out why as soon as the play started, they had no microphones so couldn't hear a thing. Spent the whole play reading the subtitles on the screen above the stage. Absolute rubbish.
Gave feedback to TRP customer experience team and after 3 weeks no reply, awful.
Located in Plymouth, England on the Barbican, this distillery offers regular tours and an extensive gift shop selling a variety of alcohols and types of gin. Tours are available in English or French. Admission is charge but discounts are available for children and those under 10 years old.
Fab tour! The guides were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Value for money at £11, we tasted 3 gins & stayed for a complementary drink in the cocktail bar but you could have a miniature to take away with you if preferred. You also get 10% off in the shop if you’ve been in a tour. Visited on Saturday 19 June 2021 - best to book although they do take drop-ins if they have room.

If you are in Plymouth for any reason, you absolutely must check out the Plymouth Gin Distillery!
Great shop full of goodies, easily the best cocktail bar in Plymouth attached to the distillery, the head bartender Coco was incredible & made sure my visit was memorable (as well as making one of the best martinis I’ve ever had).
The tours are great as well, regardless of how experienced you are with gin. Beth was sublime as our guide! Incredibly knowledgeable & charismatic. Made the history of gin fun to learn & get everyone involved. Thank you to everyone at the distillery, could not have been more friendly & guest welcoming!

We went on the Master Distillers Tour and it was fantastic! We were given a gift voucher for Christmas and i can highly recommend this as a gift for anyone (gin lovers or not) Our tour party guide was Naomi and she was very informative, funny , entertaining and answered any questions with ease.
Unfortunately due to some roof maintenance and repairs there was considerable scaffolding erected in part of the building but we were still able to view this area . It just hampered photos slightly. The history of the company and of gin itself was very interesting . The tasting was very well laid out in a very nice room/bar. We never thought gin could taste so different just adding water! Onto the gin producing area ( reminded me of school chemistry lessons!) and we tried some cocktails before mixing our botanicals and adding to the alcohol. It was great to see the mixture bubbling and rising up through the tubes and then condensing back into a collecting bottle as gin! Really looking forward to trying it ( recommended to leave it for 24 hours) After this we went to the relaxing bar for a complimentary cocktail of our choosing. (Our 9th gin!) Overall a very well presented and organised experience. We would definitely visit again as it was so informative and interesting and great fun.

Hugely entertaining tour. I was the only one on the opening time tour (train to catch!) so the detail and information was in depth and very interesting. To see the pot still actually 'at work' and the master distiller going about his business was fascinating. I particularly enjoyed the ingredients section where you can sense the Plymouth gin aroma coming together. And tasting the wares just topped it off! (I recommend the Fruit Cup!) Many thanks to the tour guide and the lady in the shop who helped to book a taxi. HUGELY enjoyable!!

The Barbican Kitchen is a classic, internationally influenced brasserie in a famous distillery. It offers fresh fish and chips as well as other British seaside town staples like pies and pasties. The area around the restaurant has been restored after the Blitz bombings, so it's charming and cosy with great views of the marina.

Great food and the truffle mayo and parmesan fries were the best ever!! Staff friendly and professional. Only down side was the mashed potato hubby had, was on the cold side of aired - admittedly they replaced it straight away with an individual bowl of the same, unfortunately this too was aired at best. That being said hubby was happy with rest of the meal, with the steak cooked perfectly.

A real gem in the South-West!
We have visited Barbican Kitchen 3-4 times now, on our visit to see family in Plymouth, from London. We always make a point to have a date night here. It is our most favourite place to eat, even amongst the Michelin-starred restaurants we have been to. We just love the cosy, unstuffy, relaxed atmosphere of this restaurant. The ingredients are always the best quality, seasonal and fresh- this is reflected on the pleasantly ever-changing menu.
We love trying different plates and love the recommendations from the staff. The prices for plates are more than fair - they reflect the quality of the cooking, the ingredients and the service. We know that if this were in London, we'd likely pay more than double our bill for the same food!
The variety of options are truly exciting. Portion sizes are just perfect, if not generous. There is something for everybody and every 'food-mood' you are in. My partner has thoroughly enjoyed their beef burgers and loves their grilled steak options!
I have a personal affinity for the 'catch of the day' and the other fish dishes on offer. I also often find myself dreaming about my next encounter with their sticky toffee pudding...
A special mention must be made for the staff that work here (won't name names for privacy reasons). Attentive, not intrusive or pressurising and incredibly welcoming. Always vigilant of when we need a top-up of water!
We love how friendly, polite and genuinely informative the staff are here. They go over and beyond to make sure that you are well looked after. They are the real gems of this place along with the exquisite food; just seriously lovely people that you want to see again.
Well done, Tanner Brothers!
See you soon!

We chose this place at random. Excellent decision! Lovely friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Good choice on the menu too.
I had the ox cheek which was delicious and almost melted in my mouth. My husband had the hake which he thoroughly enjoyed. We treated ourselves to pudding, I had chocolate fondant and Simon had the cheeseboard.
Overall a great experience and if we were to visit Plymouth again we would definitely eat here.

Sharing some photos of a memorable meal at the Barbican Kitchen. There was a relaxed informal atmosphere, excellent food and friendly, efficient service. I was pleased to see that the menu has a varied list of vegan choices as well as vegetarian and meat-containing options. Good to see that there is a set menu as well as à la carte options.
July 2023: another excellent meal with good atmosphere and excellent service. Please see the photos of hummus, sweetcorn risotto, ribeye steak and chocolate mousse.

Exquisite meal here last night, which also happened to be my first visit at The Barbican Kitchen.
It is on the pricier side, however the quality of the food is amazing and very well presented which makes it worth it.
I’d recommend the caramelised onion and goats cheese tart and butternut squash risotto…. both were divine.
The truffle and parmesan fries are also a MUST - they’re the best I’ve had!
Service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself was cosy and inviting.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for somewhere just that little bit more special.

Food was very tasty however prices were on the high side. There was a good range of dishes on the menu, however service was a little slow and the waitress wasn’t the most welcoming. Probably would visit again but for the food only. It is however in a pretty location and decor is nice.

The Barbican Kitchen is located in the same building as Plymouth Gin Distillery, and has been one of our favourite since we've studied 14 years ago. It's owned by Tanner brothers whom used to have an amazing Michelin star restaurant (sadly closed down) nearby.
It was a natural choice for us to dine here on our last night in Plymouth, and it really did not disappoint! I had pressed plum tomato terrine and seared wild sea bass and hubs had chicken liver parfait and slow cooked Westcountry lamb shoulder... all of which the ingredients were so tasty and didn't need much sauce. Tomato were bursting with flavour, sea bass and lamb were really really nicely done.

Great food. Duck egg starter was absolutely excellent and pork belly main also. Attentive, but not pressured service. Price reasonable as well for quality. All round recommend.

3 of us had the spider crab as a starter.
Fabulous!
All mains were good too.
Service was excellent.
Consistently good. And a firm favourite.

The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth is a popular tourist attraction with a waterfront location. It features many enormous tanks and aquariums, as well as the cafe offering panoramic harbour views.
We had a great time in here, plenty to see, do and read about. Lots of seating areas to just relax and sit and watch the fish. Ramps and lifts for disabled access / prams. There is a cafe for refreshments. At various times throughout the day you can watch talks about different creatures. Very enjoyable, entertaining and good for learning about the environment. Must prebook to go in, can’t just walk up and go in.
Claire Cronin (All Things Dark & Dirty) — Google review
National marine aquarium is great for a few hours. Well set out and a lot of exhibits for children and adults. For some reason I was allowed to convert a normal ticket to a years ticket for free. A nice surprise. You won’t find anything else quite like this in the UK if you are into sea creatures
Geoff — Google review
We had a delightful visit today. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The aquariums were alive and teeming with underwater wonders.
The entire place was impeccably clean, and it was evident that the animals were well taken care of with dedication and love. This added to the overall experience of observing the thriving and healthy creatures in the aquariums. The larger exhibits were incredibly fascinating, captivating us for extended periods as we constantly discovered new things. While the price may be a bit high, the fact that it's valid for an entire year makes it well worth it, especially if you live within driving distance.

First visit having seen the documentary. Great use of space and exhibits. Good that there is more than one viewing area as we visited on a weekend and with families it was very busy. Very good information and signage, best take your time viewing as not able to backtrack easily to re-see things you may have missed.
Donna Stevens — Google review
Had a great time here. Quite busy, 12-3 on a Saturday. Very good wheelchair access.
Spent ages just watching the huge tanks, better than TV! Staff all very helpful.
Sharon Hanna — Google review
Was really good, went here for my girlfriend's birthday and we both loved it and will be back. Highlight is definitely the massive tank, where you get three or four views into it, including a massive, floor to ceiling, curved window that allows you to see the whole thing. On top of that, you also get free return within a year when you visit, all in all super impressed!
Matt Bulbeck — Google review
I've made the online booking, and it was easy to enter the building. The staffs were really helpful. I have opted for the morning 10 to 11 slot, which was less crowded. Aquarium is good and well maintained. However, I felt like 25£ per adult is too much, but kids or toddlers would definitely enjoy this place.

Fantastic day out - staff obviously love their jobs and I can see why.
Amazing place to spend time - clearly they are passionate about the Aquarium and the animals they care for...
Saw this on Secrets of the Aquarium and was determined to see it for myself... my son and his family along with my sister, her daughter and I had the bestt day out there...
Interesting, informative displays, excellent facilities and a perfect chilled put vibe... 👌

Really fun place to visit. Great for adults and kids. There were a few areas that could have done with a bit more info. Lots to see and do, even a boat wreck to see with the sharks!
Only negative was the cafe, food looked past it’s best, with a very limited menu so we ate elsewhere.
Alison Rennie — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience! The tanks are very well designed and their marine environments perfectly compliment the beautiful fish inside them. The shark tank was great as was the huge 'cinema' tank with seating to relax for awhile and maybe catch a talk or two from the very knowledgeable staff. All the displays have tons of information and the language is accessible to all ages. Definitely recommend a visit. Please beware the café and bar are a bit expensive, so budget that in.

Amazing for the kids. And oldies alike. Amazing collection and very well presented in a modern aquarium. They let you make multiple visits during one year of buying your tickets. Worth every penny

Went in summer holidays so very very busy. Ticket price 25 pounds per adult !! and add parking your car in a very tight car park 8.50. All indoors, cafe and toilets. Had a nice day but would say go in winter months.
Amy Hill — Google review
Good for all children, big and small! Parking is close by which is not too expensive but not the cheapest. This is not run by the aquarium, so they have no control over it.
Lots of great exhibitions showing loads of marine animals from over the world.
Extras you can do are private feeding and backstage passes.
Matthew Robinson — Google review
This surely must be the jewel of Plymouth. What a fantastic place and venue. Most weekend's you'll find the aquarium turns into a concert venue and puts on Candlelight concerts featuring: Vivaldi, Coldplay, Taylor Swift etc. Great staff, food and now offering a ticket deal where you buy one ticket and get access for the whole year.
Marc Salter — Google review
A wonderful collection of marine nature. We visited in the year it opened 1998, and it was marvellous. Having just visited in 2024 it did not disappoint and is as exciting, educational and enchanting as ever. The staff are all very cheerful, helpful and knowledgeable. We will be back hopefully sooner than 2050!
Fraser Bishop — Google review
So what do you do when you have guest? Well you go to the Aquarium is what you do. Great location, excellent staff and the fish are well behaved HA! At first you do think it's a little pricey, however the tickets last a year and you can visit again and again.
So give it a go, we will again.
Mark Davies — Google review
Very nice place to go around, BUT it was very expensive, just the two of us . The price was £ 41.00 .but saying that it is worth a day out. The staff are very friendly and helpful. When you get to end, you can sit down in the
In the cafe and something to have a drink and food .
Graham Eckley — Google review
A good 2 hour experience and plenty of close up action to large fish, rays, sharks and a cheeky turtle called Friday. Hang around for the interesting talk about sharks - get there at least 15 minutes early for a seat.
I honestly thought The Deep at Hull and the Blue Planet Aquarium near Chester were better and the shop here wasn't very good but the kids loved the fish displays and your ticket gives you free entry for a year and all ticket proceeds go to charity.

Dating back to 1105, the Tavistock Pannier Market has been a staple for over 900 years, offering a variety of goods traded in a covered hall from Tuesday to Saturday. The market gets its name from the baskets used for transporting goods. Visitors can find something for everyone, with various food outlets available when needing to rest and recharge at Bob's East End cafe or other options.
✨️great selection of market stalls and little cafes surrounding the area ☕️🍰 perfect for finding a present for someone or if you just want to treat yourself !

Great little market offering a wide range of gifts, foods, drinks, crafts etc. we walked into town from our local cousins house as parking is an art form on a weekend apparently.
It was quite busy but some of the items for sale were truly special. Totally worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Lovely little area, worth a peruse if youre visiting. Lots of little places to visit and nice to walk around the street too. Its like a little flee market where you can buy lots of random little things; books, animal food, trinkets, antiques etc. Theres also a little cafe inside. Bought a nice little christmas ornament from one of the little shops.

I've been here numerous times but I still get excited walking through the old doors to this market. Lots of great stalls selling a wide range of vintage clothes, records and accessories as well as homemade crafts and food items. Also, several good cafes to relax and have a drink or bite to eat, before checking out all the gourmet shops selling cheeses, meats, cakes and other goodies.

Inside the market lots of little stalls from cakes to toys to hats to pet goods. Thoroughly enjoyed it

Not sure whether quaint and class go with each other... but it is what the pannier market is all about...there is something for everyone and when you have finished perusing and feel there is a need to rest your legs and top your energy reserves, then roll up to Bob's East End cafe. Light airy and warm you will not get high cuisine but you will get really good traditional dishes. Other good food outlets are available.

One name that clearly rings a bell of all the places I visited in Cornwall is Tavistock. For the clergy, there is good Anglican church , for the shoppers there a market and several shops to chose from
The visitor center is situated in Dartmoor National Park. It provides information on the park and its history as well as exhibits on ecology and legends. There is also a stunning time-lapse video. The center is free to visit and there are plenty of shops where you can buy souvenirs.
Free to enter which was great! Spent about half an hour inside as it's quite small (I think there is supposed to be more upstairs but it was closed) but we learned so much about Dartmoor! The gift shop also had a great range of products (including some from local companies) so we'll definitely be back in the future when we want some local gifts! (also I loved this bird so had to add it hahaha)

Take a map. You can see lots from the road on the way up to Princetown. There is so much history here and there is so much to see on some of the circular walks. A map is advised and good walking boots/ shoes but we did it in trainers and in the height of summer and was lucky only to find one marginally boggy area. A lovely aquaduct going down with an impressive constant flow of water! We said the next walk we'd like to climb up and see where it's all coming from!!we were blessed with good weather on this occasion but the weather can turn so quickly up here so make sure you're prepared for whatever it might throw at you. It's a wonderful place to have a walk with family!!

Dartmoor Prison Museum is a museum that displays the history of Dartmoor prison, which dates back to 1809. The museum is located in Princetown and details the different purposes of the prison over time.

Lots of on the wall reading, may be awkward if it gets busy.
Worth also seeing the church built by prisoners(please leave upkeep donation!)

Great place to visit, really interesting facts about the prison now and on the past. Learn about famous prisoners. See lots of things made by prisoners, be it weapons or items like a guitar!!!
Jazz Garner — Google review
It was okay. Nice to see the history of the prison and also good to see the current prisoners trying to sell their products. However, the price seems a bit steep for a few rooms of history. The reservoir walk is a tiny 3 minute walk. The museum is dog friendly but there are some steep steps. Worth a visit? Absolutely, just wish the price was a little more competitive.

Lots of detailed info to read. So very interesting. The flow seemed a bit disjointed. As there was masses of info on a4 paper in text and I am not the best reader. Would still reccomend not bad for the price but would make sure your up for standing and reading a lot.
Loved the weather rock. Will be getting my own.
No pics of inside allowed. So the only one I've included.

An interesting but slightly rustic and poor quality (infrastructure) museum that would be good if it wasn't so bloody shabby. Everything has been put together on the cheap, which is just the way we do things. Take your time and there is plenty to interest. Much of this though is written material and takes some time and patience to get through...you will struggle a bit to do this with children in tow. The Museum needs a refresh...it needs some money, a plan and some professional help.
Chris Preece — Google review
A ramshackle but very interesting collection from Dartmoor Prison and its inmates that gives a good idea of the history and what it was (and is) like to be an inmate. The prisoner's creative work was my favourite part of the museum, especially the prison officer caricatures drawn, appropriately, on toilet paper tubes. Each face was uniquely sour and judgemental.
Tim P — Google review
Amazing museum, very informative and the crafts made by the prisoners were so beautiful. Ended up going home with two gnomes painted by the prisoners

Over the years you hear and see a lot about this prison so it was good to be able to see for ourselves the history of Dartmoor prison.
When you see some of the weapons that prisoners have made it must be a very frightening place but then you see a beautiful model of the Notre Dame Cathedral made from what looks like matchsticks and you realise not everyone puts their skills to destructive items.
Well worth a visit.

Man I loved this place, as did my 16 year old son who's studying criminology. Local museums can be hit and miss but what's not to like about this: Napoleonic origins, US prisoners who brought their racism with them, wild escapes, a gallery of home made weapons, stories of riots, amazing prisoner arts and crafts (including ana amazing massive last supper painting, using the faces of fellow convicts). I could have stayed another hour. Informative, educational and fun.

Lots of artefacts, items, photographs and written documentations relating to the building of the prison, the American Civil War and Napoleonic prisoners and moving forward to the present day. The River Lyd has carved a stunning one-mile-long chasm through the rock in Lydford Gorge, located near the picturesque village of Lydford. The gorge is considered to be the deepest in the southwest region and can only be accessed via a 1.5-mile rugged hike along the riverbank, passing several bubbling whirlpools, including the notorious Devil's Cauldron before reaching its thundering waters.

Dingles Fairground Museum is a unique attraction that offers a blend of traditional fairground rides and a museum showcasing old vehicles, caravans, and steam organs. The fairground section features classic rides like bumper cars, ghost tunnel, and carousel rides which can be accessed by purchasing tokens. Additionally, visitors can enjoy various penny machines including one arm bandits and other gambling games. The museum area contains interesting displays with information boards but may feel somewhat empty.
Fantastic place to visit for the whole family and all ages. Adults can ride with children on fairground rides from the bygone era. Complete with museum, gift shop and cafe. Buy your ticket once and come back as often as you like for a year!! Great value
Cheryl Stewartson — Google review
This is a lovely place to take a wide range of ages. My Dad loved looking at the old vehicles and travelling caravans and steam organs. My oldest two enjoyed the rides and 2p machines and there was plenty for my little niece and nephew to do. I think in honesty you'd want to take little ones to get the most out of it. A huge part of the fun for us was taking the little ones on their first rides.
The place works on a tokens system which make a family saver ticket good value.
It has lost one star because I'm honesty you could tell it had been "hit by the times" in our most recent visit. Many of the organs were not in operation and there were many staff so waiting for and accessing rides was quite a bit more clunky than before but don't get me wrong the staff worked as hard as Miss Rabbit from Peppa pig! They put people's safety first and tried their hardest to make it a good experience.
We did eat there and it was a brilliant traditional funfair feast of burgers, hot dogs and candy floss which made it feel even more like the good old days.
Rides are on average 2 tokens per person so they go quickly when you have two hours to kill we needed 60 tokens for four kids and their "responsible adults" to access the rides. Just to try and give people an idea!
I would say go because the more people go the better it will get and it would be heart breaking to loose a lovely place like this. It isn't dear and it is fun let's keep it alive!

I get around on a mobility scooter and was pleasantly surprised of how much room there was. There was a guy who started of on the speedway. Then on the hook a duck and then on the carousel, he was great on all, he was a big help to me getting on and off the 2 rides I managed to get on, a big thank you to him.
Debbie Heasman — Google review
This place was great, the age of some of the rides was incredible, lots are nearly 100 years old. We all loved the rides, playing the old arcade games and reading about the funfair history!

Out in the middle of the countryside but worth a visit. Basically this museum is in two parts. A fair ground that contains a lot of traditional rides including bumper cars, ghost tunnel, carousel rides, slot games and the like you can pay to use. And a museum which is a bit empty but contains organs, some non functional rides and caravans with info boards. There are also penny machines including one arm bandits and other gambling games that are actually a lot if fun. The downside is it's pretty expensive, most rides costing 3 tokens or 3 quid. That said if you have visited once you get a season to jet that means you don't pay entrance again, so technically it's free to walk around but the rides are charged separately. Also it's open in two sessions, an am and pm, so no chance to plan a whole day if that's your plan. However given this is run mostly by volunteers this is absolutely forgivable. The flip side is it's pretty unique. There are toilets and a place to eat on site. Was nice to experience a blast from my past.

It is a lot more than just a museum, with several working rides and a coin arcade to enjoy. There are clean toilets including a disabled loo. Picnic tables outside too. A good 2 to 4 hours of entertainment and all indoors for those rare Devon rainy days 😜

Great place. Did the afternoon session to get out of the rain. Got the family saver ticket that included entry for 2 adults 3 children and 20 tickets, 2-3 tokens per person per ride. Very reasonable. Had to buy more to go on all the rides. £5 for 5 tokens using contact less machine. Food van reasonably priced for burgers and chips. Clean toilets. Bring your 2ps! Great selection of machines new and old. Kids and adults both enjoyed. Would recommend for something a bit different

We stopped by on our way home and it was such a good idea. The staff are lovely and really seem like they love working there. The museum section was really interesting to see and the rides were great!
I do think that the food stand needs to have one more person working on it to take orders so that the line can move a bit quicker, we ended up leaving the line so that we didn't miss out on the rides!
Will definitely visit again 😊

Absolutely loved it here will definatly be going again. All staff are so helpful and lovely and the rides are very fun especially moonrocket.
Roadford Activity Centre is a fantastic place to visit for an unforgettable experience on the water. The staff are extremely helpful and efficient, offering plenty of advice and safety briefings before launching into activities like High Ropes, Paddle Boarding, and Canoeing. The camping area offers peaceful grass pitches with beautiful views of the lake, along with facilities such as toilets, showers, wash rooms, fridge, microwave, BBQ area and plenty of benches with tables.
Very nice place, great views and really peaceful. Went kayaking with a group of people and were clearly told the boundaries (very large area) and how to use equipment properly. Also told what to do in case of emergency. After that we were left to our own devices and it was a great time. Will definitely be going again!
Also they have a really lovely cat that lives there :)

An excellent lake slight wind today but fine for SUP. Good car parking and very helpful staff my second visit. And both times I had a great day.

We didn’t realise that this lake is a schools activity centre and it was full of kids when turned up. Not a problem as we were in the camping field next to the lake with lovely views. The problem was with the facilities. The main block was out of bounds to the public for schools use only. The small side block was open to us campers and notices stated no school children. The small block was absolutely filthy, water and mud on the floors, and cobwebs and dust everywhere. School children were using the facilities as I had to queue to use one of the two toilets and both being used by kids. The toilets weren’t cleaned until the evening of our second nights stay and then they were only wiped down.
My husband asked about doing some paddle boarding when we arrived, the girl on reception told us to come back about 11 in the morning as the schools were using then but if they weren’t all in use he could book for an hour. We sat and watched the kids in the morning and several boards weren’t being used. He went to Reception and was told by another girl that they were all in use and he couldn’t use them. By 12 o’clock the boards were all stacked up at the side of the lane and not used again until 2pm! All in all not a cheap stay especially when you can’t take part in any activities and the toilets are a disgrace. We did fill in a comments sheet about our stay that was emailed to us and asked to be contacted but never heard from them. Our stay was in July (only doing my reviews now).

What a fantastic place,
We enjoyed it so much and stayed an extra night.
The staff are super helpful and nothing is too much trouble,
All the activities we supervised and so many to do, we did High Ropes, Paddle Boards and Canoeing.
There is an abundance of wildlife around the lake to enjoy meaning dogs must be kept on a lead.
However, there are fields adjacent to the camping if you want to stretch their legs.
Thank You for making the last week of our holiday a very memorable one...
Will definitely be back to try out the sailing ⛵️

Really fun day for me and my son. First time dinghy sailing for him and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Add to that me dropping my phone over the side. Picked up floating in its pouch by the kind staff member. I'd give 6 stars if I could.

Went with friends and family, including a 5yr old. Enjoyed our stay. We had a grass pitch, with the view of the lake. Very peaceful and beautiful. The facilities are: toilets, showers, wash rooms, fridge and microwave. BBQ area, loads of benches with tables. There are lots of cute little bunnies running around. We were there on a rainy night but still a wonderful experience. Definitely recommend it and we will go there again.

2 hour windsurfing taster session - really good instructor (Arc) who was great with both the parents and kids. Well worth the money. We then came back to hire sailing boats the following day - also brilliant. We were a little lucky with the weather.

Lovely setting. Excellent for sailing, paddle boarding and kayaking. Pleasant staff and life guards on duty.

Shower & locker facilities were filthy
Life guards were busy chatting whilst children were unattended on the water
No cafe on site, had we not of had our car the cafe is a 25 mins walk through the wooded area.
Car parking fees apply after the expensive use of activities !
Not impressed

Fantastic place to visit if you want an experience on the water .. we wanted to launch our SUP and the process for booking was very simple and inexpensive. The staff were extremely helpful and super efficient .. we were offered plenty of advice and given a safety briefing before launch.
Overall the visit was fun and pleasurable, will be visiting again very soon.
I would only suggest a few more benches/areas for people to sit 😊

A small tourist attraction that offers nature walks, animal care classes, and a play area for kids is The Miniature Pony Centre. It is home to donkeys, pigs, ponies, goats, rabbits and ferrets. Equestrians will love spending a day here learning about the animals and riding on the ponies (small additional fee).
What a cracking little place!!!
Took my little boy here! I'm not sure who enjoyed it more! Him or me 😁!!
There's play areas indoors and out! There's a huge paddock where you can walk freely around the ponies and donkeys! They're very sweet and they all look very well looked after.
They have two American Mammoth Donkeys which I didn't even know were a thing among other animals.
They even have Unicorns there!!!
There's lots of activities, for the size of it there's surprisingly a lot to see and do including lovely little nature walks to the pond with the ducks and walking/grooming/riding the ponies.
There's of course a gift shop and a tea room!
The food was lovely and reasonably priced although I wasn't keen on the fact they leave food lying on the floor until the end of day 😬
The only thing I would say is don't use the toilets if you're afraid of spiders because there are some Biiiiigggg 8 legged creatures in there!!
Overall though, definitely a great trip out!!
Louise Copinger — Google review
Had such a nice time here and I would definitely go back. We took our toddler and she was able to guide a small pony around a little paddock. It may not seem like a lot but it was a magical experience for her, she's never done anything else like it. They even put a little riding helmet on her.
I was really impressed with the way the whole place was run, so much to see and do, you could easily spend an entire day here with a kid a bit older than ours.
We got there a bit late in the day and I feel like it would have been better to go in the morning, to see all the activities.
The car park is quite large and the farm is pushchair and wheelchair friendly.

This is a really lovely place, plenty for kids to play on and activities throughout the day such as pony walking, grooming and feeding pigs
You can go right in with the ponies and stroke and cuddle them.

Brilliant place if you like horses, ponies and donkeys. Play area for the kids and a great cafe too plus a lovely short nature walk too ideal for little legs! Plus miniature pigs, goats and sheep

Great visit, kids loved meeting the ponies and enjoyed the great family entertainer. We saw Dan the Hat (danthehat.co.uk) last time, but Mr Bubbles was also good on previous visits.
Play area is well thought out, great activities inside and out for all ages. Staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
Food and drinks are not over-inflated price wise.
We had a brilliant day out with family, well recommended.
Please consider zero mobile reception at this location. This could be a negative or a positive!

We really enjoyed this place. The staff are truly amazing! We could tell that the ponies and other animals are really well kept and looked after. We really enjoyed the story telling time and our son loved 'driving' the tractor. Nanny and grandad enjoyed listening to all the information about the ponies and are now contemplating getting two shetland ponies of their own. The play park is perfect for older and younger children.
The food was also delicious.
There really is something for everyone. We really enjoyed our day and will be back!

Amazing place to visit with kids or a couple who fancys a day out.
Massive play areas, 5 massive trampolines, full day of free of activities.
You can stroke every animal in there and walk through the pony fields, amazing to get up close.
Good choice of ice creams and cafe does the usual food, prices were average. Definitely worth a visit 👍.

This was our 1st visit our 11 month old granddaughter loved seeing all the animals although the mammoth donkeys were definitely her favourite we spent 4 hours here and could definitely off stayed longer.
The cafe portion sizes were very generous and plenty of high chairs available.
We are now getting season tickets

Wow! What a place! Shame we didn't know about it before 😮 my son absolutely loved it and we didn't get to see it all! Massive queues today as it was the last day for them. Shame as it was probably the best attraction with live animals in Devon. Seemed to be well taken care of and really nicely done. All the best to the owners and it's a shame that this place is closing down however I understand that they needed to move on. Owners should be proud after seeing so many happy kids running around 😀 well done and all the best for the future... Shame that we will not be able to go there ever again 😮

Absolutely loved this place! It's so much bigger than I thought it would be. There's all kinds of horses, donkeys and ponies but also rabbits, bugs, mice, rats, ducks, turkeys and more besides! It's a bit of a tardis, doesn't appear huge but the more you adventure and follow the paths, the more you find. My very nearly 3 year old absolutely loved it. Highlight of our Devon holiday and we'll worth a visit!

The Moretonhampstead Motor Museum is an exciting and informative collection of vintage vehicles that spans over 60 years of automotive history. From early 1900s cars to the late 1990s, this museum contains a great deal of collectible memorabilia. The owner was very welcoming and provided a great insight into all the vehicles and their history. He has clearly worked hard to create this museum, which is a must-visit for anyone in the area.
If you're in the area, then the motor museum is well worth a visit for a good hour's entertainment!
Plenty to look at, and the chap who owns and runs the museum was very welcoming and provided a really good insight and history into all of the vehicles and memorabilia he has collected.
He has clearly worked very hard in creating this museum and has made it into a very interesting story of cars and motorbikes from the early 1900s until the late 1990s!
My personal favourite had to be the Triumph TR2, fantastic looking car.
Ed Walker — Google review
Great collection of cars, motorbikes and pedal bikes with the history provided on each one. £10 pp entry (not £5 as per Google) and street parking outside. Bring a warm jacket.
The owner has amassed a fascinating display of cars and parts, and appears to do the maintenance himself on site.
Downstairs chiefly cars; upstairs cars and motorbikes. Some interesting pedal bikes too, including 1928 Sunbeam, and fun to see the 'evolution' of bikes with petrol parts.

Spent an interesting couple of hours looking around. They not only have dozens of cars & motorcycles but also many other vintage items like bicycles etc. Including an example of a Carlton 10 speed racing bike from the 1980s similar to one I owned! I had the Motor Museum on a list of wet weather places to visit & I'm actually glad I had the one rainy 🌧 day!

One man's passion for cars and automobilia, open for the public to wander around and enjoy.
If you are interested in unusual classic cars and bikes/motorcycles and fancy a couple of hours diversion in that direction then this is the ideal outing for you. Split up on two floors of an old commercial garage you'll find 20 or 30 cars and a similar number of motorcycles, along with cycles and all sorts of other interesting items.
The entrance fee of £10 for adults or £25 for a family ticket is extremely good value, even before you consider how much this collection must cost to maintain and insure.
The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable and always happy to answer questions and give visitors more insight into his unique collection of items.
This was my first trip and I'm sure I'll be back!

Frank met me and explained several things to me very clearly and although I am not really a motor person, this place was just a lovely place to visit. Not much in the way of extras or novelties (thankfully) but 18 carat nostalgia and the smell of the old vehicles is worth the fee. I spoke to the owner and he warmed and was really pleasant and down to earth and he had a great connection with his vehicles. His retirement is worth viewing and I was so pleased I popped in after driving past on many occasions. A step back in time and so enjoyable and atmospheric. Great ! What a pleasant afternoon with a really genial host. Like cars and bikes ,you will be happy here. Well done Frank

I love these privately own museums. The owner gave us a little tour and an insight on how it all began. It's definitely worth the journey to get to, and at £10 per person It's great value. A very enjoyable trip down memory lane with a close friend of mine, who worked on most of these cars in the late 70's at his uncle's garage. I have attached an image of him next to a very nice Vauxhall Cresta. The last time he was in one of these was as a four year old, sat on his Dad's lap steering the car. His Dad's was two-tone pink. If only you could bottle that workshop smell, you'd make a small fortune. Highly recommended. To Frank and staff, well done and keep up the good work.

Castle Drogo is a medieval-style castle located three miles northeast of Chagford, England. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for Julius Drewe, a self-made food millionaire, and constructed between 1911 and 1931. The castle was meant to have all the amenities of a country house but has not aged well over time. Currently undergoing extensive renovations that are expected to last six years, parts of Castle Drogo remain open for tours.
Rosemoor is an exquisite, ornamental garden set in a picturesque valley. It is home to a restaurant and tea room, as well as various specimen trees and shrubs. The gardens are open to the public, and feature a huge variety of ornamental plants both in the gardens and at the cafe.
Whatever time of year you visit there is always something new to admire and enjoy here. The gardens are beautifully designed and maintained, with each season providing it's own unique plants, flowers and trees. There are frequent sculpture exhibits lining the trail which are in harmony with the surroundings in their theme and in the way they are displayed.
The cafe serves a lovely selection of hot and cold food, coffees, teas and bottled alcoholic beverages. Before leaving, the well stocked plant and gift shops are well worth visiting, too.
Annual membership means frequent return visits throughout the year are possible and you are supporting the RHS' work as well.
Just perfect.

We visited in early July 2023, the day after storms had hit Devon. No need to worry the gardens were beautiful and the attention to detail impressive with area after area of planting schemes and design features to bombard the senses and inspire the most modest of gardeners. Don't miss the expansive gardens and orchards beyond the underpass but wear comfortable shoes and give yourself time to explore and relax in the thatched shelters, and maybe take tea from china cups in the wysteria tea room. A lovely mature day out, one to revisit at another time of year

A stunning day out, I wouldn’t call myself a person who would actively go to an RHS Garden, However I was really impressed.
We went with our 3-year-old, grandparents and great grandparents and there was something for all, the food is good quality and very reasonably priced, little cafe's and Ice Cream places throughout the gardens.
The gardens, each of them designed beautifully and the care and attention to the display and cleanliness was impressive. A place I will be returning with the family for sure.

At its best... even in the rain. Roses, hedges and cottage garden a delight, as was vegetable garden. Cafe excellent - one in Lady Anne's garden used China crockery! Staff friendly and helpful. Managed to get around with walking stick. Not good for a wheelchair with single powered wheel at front, 'cos much gravel. Places to shelter from rain.

I visited the gardens for a vintage car show, which was extremely busy, and there was hundreds to do with plenty of food outlets to grab a bite to eat. I then had a walk around the rest of the garden looking at various plants. The best thing I think is the way the garden is laid out and kept.

Even on a dull day RHS Rosemoor is a wonderful place to visit. The Wisteria Tea Room even provides outside entertainment with friendly Robins waiting for a dropped morsel or two. RHS Rosemoor is probably my favourite and most inspiring garden of all time, it has everything you could want. I particularly enjoyed the Cool and Hot gardens and they have completely changed my approach to the design and planting of my own garden. Since my visit while on holiday in August 2021, I can't get enough red, orange and purple flowers in to my scheme. The garden is generally a great joy to visit and just like any of the RHS gardens, there's always pleanty to see and do, no matter what the season. Visit any time of year to enjoy and be inspired by what nature has to show you.

What an amazing garden. Everything is so beautifully designed and implemented. Very kind staff and extremely clean toilets even on this sunny Sunday with quite some visitors. We have enjoyed a lot of different types of gardens and we couldn’t even see everything because the area is so large. We also enjoyed those small robins (birds), which came very near just to get some easy food. Fortunately, their shape was okay, otherwise it would be a pity for the birds getting the wrong diet. So, I really recommend RHS Garden Rosemoor!!

First visit to a RHS garden and wasn't disappointed. The gardens were stunning and probably the best gardens we've ever visited. It started well when the entry staff took you to one side and explained the map and the gardens to you and finished with a brilliant plant store and gift shop as you left. In between the gardens were stunning with the rose gardens full of flowers and scent. The water features looked beautiful, and the lake was full of dancing dragonflies. We spent most of the day there having lunch in the restaurant and an afternoon tea in the Wisteria tearoom. Both meals were of high quality and at a reasonable price. Fantastic day out recommend to anyone.

Visited RHS Rosemoor Glow Event. The gardens were terrific & decorated so well. Ample parking including disabled parking. Helpful staff, clean facilities. The lights for the event could be extended and made more festive but still a great event. Would also lend itself perfectly to a Halloween garden event. Unfortunately we did book food for the event and the restaurant was pre booking access only so friends that hadn't booked but wanted to sit with us couldn't... Understandable, but the restaurant was half empty the whole time we were there. Staff were a bit overzealous about laying down the rules. The food was pricey for what it was but as it's a special event you don't mind paying a little extra. Unfortunately the quality of the food wasn't great either... Very watery hotdogs, not very flavoursome burgers, extremely dry mince pies... So gardens fantastic 👍 food not so 👎

Some of the best deep flower beds I have seen anywhere and splendid even now at end of September. Bees and butterflies enjoying many areas especially the vegetables integrated with flowers and fruit. Well structured for the photographer among us. Lovely woodland walks with lakes and interest along all routes. Two good allotment style areas with greenhouses and educational buildings. Visit both is my recommendation. Well done to the garden team. Cafe good too. Nursery very good of course.

REVIEW: QUEEN MOTHER'S ROSE GARDEN AND SHRUB ROSE GARDEN. AUGUST UPDATE- THE HOT GARDEN. PLUS GLOW 2023
I read the other day that this is, a good year for roses, the reason being that rose aphids have had a bad time, so I grabbed my camera gear and headed for Rosemoor. Both gardens as you may have guessed are formal gardens, but I have always been just as happy with formal is informal gardens. Both gardens are fantastic, the Queen Mothers garden has some beautiful white climbers and the Shrub garden uses ropes to trail the climbing roses. Rosemoor has a great team of guys and girls who inform me that there are over 2000 roses in these gardens, having spent time photographing them I have no reason to doubt this.
"Less is more", if you want to take your photography forward, if you find a part of the garden you really like allocate time to shoot, stick with it. This will give much better results than trying to cover everything.
In summary both of these gardens are vibrant, rich and spectacularly beautiful.
THE HOT GARDEN. I am very grateful to two previous reviewers "NIci" (September 21) and "Rob Hobbs" (August 21) who have prompted me to visit the hot garden. Do check out their reviews, superb images from both of them, very well done and thank you.
This garden is pure colour sensory overload, superb, it is an extraordinary garden.
For the first time I visited the "Glow" evening. Talking to the gardeners and staff they seemed quite modest about the display but it was superb. A huge display on the main lawn, individual garden sections were illuminated and the lake was fantastic. For me though the woodland walk was extraordinary the RHS team illumined the whole wood to the West of the garden (approx 4 acres). A superb and breath taking display.

Dartington Crystal is a glassware manufacturer located in the UK. The factory floor is where the glassware is created, from molten glass to perfectly formed glasses and decorations. The craftspeople are incredibly talented and you can watch them work right in front of your eyes. The shop is huge and had bargains galore in it, as well as a good range of food at the cafe. If you're visiting Dartington Crystal, make sure to also visit their museum!

We visited the factory last weekend and did the self-guided factory tour.
Easy to book online..and only £10 each.
Plenty of free parking available the day.
Lovely staff at reception.
Really informative video to start and great display of glassware through the ages (some of it was really nostalgic and left me feeling very old!!).
The factory was so very interesting. We saw several items being made from start to finish. I didn't realise before visiting, that all of the Dartington Crystal Glass items are hand made - amazing. The workers looked so skilled and took so much care, the process was mesmerising to watch.
There were loads of useful notice boards around - very informative.
The shop was absolutely filled with discounted glass..Great for shopping.
An absolutely brilliant place to visit. Highly recommended.

This was a fascinating self-paced tour of the last UK hand blown glass factory and I'd recommend it. We watched skilled craftspeople with decades of experience blowing glass into beautiful objects.
Some of the tour is being refurbished so they're not charging an entrance fee but I found the temporary history timeline display very informative.
Everyone we spoke with was helpful and happy to explain about their skills, role and product.
The shop is huge and great value; maybe you're adding to existing sets, looking for that special piece or just stocking up for daily use from their slightly imperfect offering, I felt all were keenly priced. This is hand-crafted crystal made in Britain

Great place! Currently renovating a few areas, which means the tours are self guided and free of charge. The painting studio is brand new and very nice. Last time for starting painting in 3pm however you can stay until 4 - 4:30 to finish and dry your glass painting. Of all the available vessels to paint there is lanterns (picture), short glass, tall glass and wine/gin glass. Each glass is between 6.50£ and 8.50£. Great fun! The staff is extremely lovely!

What a disappointment. We visited the Pavilion Café for a light lunch. It was extremely quiet on arrival, something didn't feel quite right. Two soups on offer, my friend and I decided to try them. Both tasted ok but one was not very hot. Our bread choices were mixed up despite confirming twice what we would like. We left feeling like we had arrived on opening day being covered by new recruits. We opted to visit elsewhere for coffee as we didn't wish to stay any longer than necessary or spend any more money. Sad really as years ago it had a buzz and was much better.

The factory was very good i recommend you go see it. The 1 star is for the cafe. Me and my family were the first people in the cafe and we ordered some sandwiches and 2 cappuccino's. The bad review wasn't for the food although it wasn't great. We sat down and ate our sandwiches and waited for the drinks after we finished our food someone from my family went up to the counter to ask where the drinks were (by this time the cafe was busy) and the lady at the counter (blonde hair) said it was coming so the person from my family came and sat back down around 5 minutes later my family member goes back up and calmly and respectfully asks where the drinks are and the lady behind the counter shouts infront of everyone there "look how many people are here " and "if you dont like it go somewhere else" it was very rude and especially infront of so many people. If you go i strongly suggest you do the factory it was awesome but miss out the cafe.

Woolacombe Beach is a long, sandy beach located in North Devon. It's known for its surfing waves and expansive views, as well as its dog-friendly policies in the summer. The beach is also popular with kitesurfers and surfers due to its consistent waves and breaks.
Fantastic sandy beach which is a surfers paradise. There's an added bonus of beach tent hire as well as beach hut hire. These are ideal if you're wanting to spend the day at the beach and will be in and out of the sea. There are surf lessons available, aswell as surf board and wetsuit hire. Dogs are allowed off the lead on half of the beach, which is actually the nicer area as it tends to be a bit quieter. Fab day out and a gorgeous beach

One of the countries best beaches - but it gets full, if your prepared to walk a ways you can find space and enjoy this two mile beach. The car park is six pounds per day so you can arrive when ever you want. The sand dunes at the back of the beach look spectacular. The Eid off the sea can be cold

Such a big beach and lovely to walk along or sit down to relax. Part of the beach is dog friendly and the other half is not so all are welcome. There is a cafe down there also if you want a bite to eat. The only thing is that the parking everywhere is a bit of a rip off ranging from £5-10 depending on the time of day for whatever duration you choose to stay, even if for an hour or 2. The most amazing beach. We were so lucky to catch such a beautiful sunset on the beach one night too, which I will remember for a life time.
The beach is clean and has facilities near by. Large car park and the beach is so large it never gets too over crowded.
A must visit!

One of the best beaches I've ever been too. Extremely clean and very very big. A great walk is from one end to another and end with a good lunch at either end.
Lifeguards great as always and water very clean. No litter visible

Calm and clean sandy beach. Pet friendly. Easy access from parking. And one of the best place to see the sunset, make sure to take beach rug/mat or chairs (and some wine too if you wanna make it more memorable and romantic😍) There is a nice pizza takeaway in the parking too.

It's a great beach for all sorts of outdoor activities. Parking is the issue during busier times, but there is plenty of room on the sand.

Stunning, clean, flat long stretch of sandy beach in beautiful north Devon. Perfect for running or walking the dog as there are compact bits, kids swam on a particular hot day. It's great for paddle boarding. Seen two life guards vehicle on beach.
There are plenty of car or caravan parking spaces available in front of beach. Remember it's not free parking lol. Over all one of the great beach I have been to.

Great beach split into dog and no dog sides ,
Food stalls and bins on the beach life guards
Very clean can get very busy but there is plenty of space parking available on the road and carpark at 10 for all-day or 5 for after 4pm

One of the best beaches around uk for relaxing and surfing. You cannot go wrong with this place. Very very busy in high season but definately worth trying. Lifeguards are on duty on both sides of the beach which is divided for dog friendly or not. Plenty of car parking spaces within very short walking distance. Surfing equipment avalible, as well as ice cream coffees and quick snacks.toilets are avalible free of charge on each side of the main entrance.

Fabulous beach. Surfing, lifeguards attentive and vigilant. Toilets, litter bins in various spots along the beach. Food options. Clearly signed areas for: emergency access, dog free areas, dog on lead, off lead and surfing zones. A great day out.
Located in a charming historic building at the center of town, South Molton Pannier Market offers an assortment of over 70 stalls and a convenient on-site cafe. This spacious market is the perfect place to explore a wide variety of items, including local produce, flowers, plants, fish, meat, cheese, and other high-quality goods. The market is particularly known for its artisanal products and features a lovely ambiance throughout.
Victorian (with a bit of Georgian thrown in) masterpiece! Stunning architecture, with twice weekly markets, and numerous other events going on through the year. When there's nothing on parking is available in it. Toilets right by the front entrance, and when activities are taking place there's a large carpark out the back, just a one minute walk away. The Thursday and Saturday markets have won Best Market in England two years running, so definitely worth a visit!

Managed to get some lovely food for our teas. Egg stall, cakes, oh cheese and a Italian type stall with olives, feta, houmuos, vine leaves and pesto and a bread stall. We spent around an hour and a half looking at all the stalls and talking to different vendors. Very enjoyable.

Spent a very pleasant couple of hours there at the food festival. Nice atmosphere, a hog roast, some great pies, hotdogs and cheese and I bought some lovely local cider. Great! They seem to be a 'thing' in North Devon, there was one in Bideford and another in Barnstable.

We love visiting South Molton especially on the days the market is on. There is a large car park at the rear and reasonably priced too. There are usually plenty of spaces but today the cattle market was on so it was rather busy. We had a nice walk around the market and enjoyed a coffee at the hot drinks stall which also makes a range of locally baked cakes and a range of preserves too. We bought a lovely cider which was made locally too and there are a range of stalls selling beautiful plants which you don’t normally get to see. One stall was selling a rich deep purple chilli plant. There are stalls selling jewellery, pet food, household goods, knitwear, fabrics, sweets, fruit and veg and numerous others. The market was busy despite the rain and there are also toilets on the site too which are near the exit which leads to South Molton’s Main Street. It’s well worth a visit if you like little market towns.

Visited on a Saturday. Busy with a good selection of goods. Lots of lovely local crafts to browse & buy alongside locally grown fruits, flowers, organic produce. Loos, cafe with seating. Friendly atmosphere throughout the market. Car parking is either along the main road or a large car park behind the pannier market. £1.50 for all day.

Quince Honey Farm is a working honey farm that offers honey factory tours, an exhibition on honey bees, nature trails and play areas for children.
Very informative tour with lovely guides. Learned so much about bees!
Cafe offers a wide selection of delicious food, many dishes incorporating honey.
Excited to come back in a few years to see how the gardens have developed.

Bees are amazing. Fact.
No bees, no life on earth.
This place is great. We went because I think bees are pretty dope little critters but this place has so much more to it.
Enter through the gift shop and there’s a cafe in front of you. We had lunch there. The service was really pleasant and the food was delicious.
We bought out tickets for the gardens which are really special and designed specifically for bees.
We took the tour which was really well paced and they offer insights into all aspects of the bee life and the products they create. You get to roll a beeswax candle and keep it, learn about the flowers that are bee friendly for you garden in the tour (my wife took lots of notes), plant and keep some seeds, hold some giant bugs, and look inside a couple of hives.
Fascinating day with more than we expected. Really relaxed with passionate staff. Thoroughly recommend.

Lovely family full day out! Come rain or shine is what is says and it certainly delivers! It rained on and off all day and there were lots of fun activities in the sheltered areas to keep both children (5yr old and 2 yr old) nice and busy! Will definitely be coming back on a nice hot day as think the garden will come into it's own and the children would love the outdoor play area too. Thank you for a wonderful day full of memories

Fantastic place to visit, highly recommended! This place is completely voluntary and self supported, in other words, the don't have govt funding, so rely heavily on public support. They are doing research into bees and have a high knowledge base. They keep their own bees and produce their own honey. There is a cafe here which serves breakfast up until 12 with plenty of seating indoors and outdoors.
They have a shop here where you can buy all sorts of bee related products too. You can buy a tour of their facilities, which if you do, make sure to put 3 hours of your time aside. This is a brilliant tour and highly informative, all for a very reasonable price. They also have their own honey extraction and bottling factory. There is a playground for energetic children

We couldn't bee-lieve it when we arrived. Minutes off the A361, Quince Honey Farm is a wonderful, easy to get to family day out. The staff are welcoming and friendly. As soon as we were in, only £10 per person, so for a family attraction makes it an amazing experience on a budget, we were told all that the day had in store. We got there just in time for the bee keeper talk, all about the structure and inner workings of the hive, which was fun and informative. Shortly after the same bee keeper talked us through the process of the honey factory, with a cheeky tasting at the end! For an extra £2 per person the bee keeper gave us another talk of the many uses for bees wax showing us how to roll our own bees wax candles to take home. All the talks were fun and interactive and our bee keeper was brilliant. We stopped for a bite to eat in the nectar cafe, so sadly missed the plant potting talk. After all the activities we ventured into the indoor play area so the more energetic and younger ones could blow off some energy, with a small cafe offering an assortment of hot and cold food and drinks. With a quick trip to the outdoor play area for another round of playing we headed to the beautiful gift shop to get our hands on more of that delicious golden goodness to take home.
Quince Honey Farm we will be back for another jar or two!

We came off season and it was very quiet, which meant we were the only family on most of the activities, Our own personal tour!
The women who did the activities was fantastic, she was very engaging and so good at interacting with our toddler.
The food in the cafe was great! Really recommend.
The soft play was good, quite large in terms of height so easy so parents to clamber around.
The biggest hit of the day for my toddler was the set of tractors/diggers and spades.

Fantastic day out with a toddler in tow, the indoor Play Hive was a real hit!!
Found it really interesting learning about the bees and seeing them in action.
Food in the restaurant was excellent and tried the famous Quince Honey Farm Honeycombe Cream Tea!! STUNNING!!
Staff were pleasant and polite throughout!! Talks given were of a high standard and you see the passion was there!!

A beautiful place with lots to do and look at, great for kids as well with indoor and outdoor play areas. The cafe food was amazing and the chef came out to check a few things with us due to allergies - extremely efficient and friendly chef! The shop is full of beautiful things to buy. The educator today was full of enthusiasm, he made the talks interesting and also funny, you also have the opportunity to roll your own candle and you get to take home your own planted seed to attract the bees. Quince Honey Farm is now in my top ten of places to visit, we had such a wonderful time and couldn’t believe how long we spent there, almost a full day.

Fun day out even on a wet day.
Staying locally we knew the weather in north Devon was going to be dull so, we looked to see what was nearby for a young family.
Cafe is very spacious and offers a great variety of food, I had their own version of a cream tea with honey instead of jam. It was delicious.
We seemed to miss all the talks and workshop but they did seem to be running frequently.
If we are ever in the area again we will definitely go back.

If you're looking for an adventure sports center with plenty of space and great jumps, Rock and Rapid Adventures is the perfect place to go. You'll enjoy yourself more in a smaller group, which gives you more time in the water and on the better jumps. This was an amazing day out with a legendary guy! If possible, I would give them 10 stars!
We had a great day here today with the kids whilst on holiday. As experienced climbers we just hired kit and belayed our own kids / bouldered with them. Staff were really friendly and helpful and place was a superb little find.
Bouldering room is particularly good!
The new outdoor high ropes course looks amazing too... 12 bolts away from being finished 😂
A few other people were on courses too and seemed to be getting good instruction from the staff.

Awesome experience for my 13 and 10 year old niece and nephew. Simmo was brilliant! Really encouraging them, giving them lots of top advice and challenging them when they needed an extra push! Thank you!

The only bouldering centre in North Devon, thankfully it's a good one! We went for the taster session to get to know the ropes (or lack thereof), then we were set free on the problems. It did feel a bit more challenging than our local bouldering place (Flashpoint in Bristol), but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Definitely a good place to take kids (or grown-ups) on a rainy day.

Visited Rock and Rapid Bouldering wall today with our 5 and 3 year olds
Very reasonably priced at £10 each (plus £2 shoe hire if you don’t have your own) for as long as you want.
Great space for all ages, with about 20 other people in the same area it still didn’t feel busy and worked really well.
Food and drinks on site though didn’t have any, as well as a full size climbing wall which again we didn’t use… this time.
Mellow and welcoming staff.
All in all a great days activity for complete novices like ourselves.

I took my boys for a taster session during half term, they loved it! Simmo was great with them, he encouraged them to try harder climbs, joked with them and they were at ease. They had an hour to climb and tried lots of different routes. Next time they want to try the bouldering room.
Charlotte Baldwin — Google review
We spent a morning of our summer vacation at the climbing wall and loved it. It was so good we booked another session but coasteering. Both were good value for money.
Two adults and three kids (16, 14, 8) all with different attitudes to risk and varying levels of fitness and we all had a great time. The instructor (Kieran?) was great with the kids and able to provide useful hints and kept us safe.
The coasteering was excellent. We had an ex-marine (Sim) and another guide (Ed?) who lead us round Baggy Point - walking, swimming and jumping off rocks and cliffs. The group was smaller than many of the others and we got to know the leads a little. It was amazing fun.
I’d happily return to both coasteering and climbing.

Tried the Bouldering taster session with a 7 year old. It was quite hard for him as he is slight but he got better as he went on. Although he was pretty tired after 45 minutes. The young instructor was excellent with him and gave him great help and instruction. We’ll try again at some point as he gets stronger. Good value for an hour.

Firstly I'm going to say a MASSIVE thank u to simmo what a legend this guy is, knows his stuff and juat wants us to have a great time, not be treated like we are on a production line, so stayed away from the big groups and got jumping in over and over again, getting the confidence up in the kids and juat having a great time, this company works on smaller groups ans I highly recommend doing it in a smaller group, loads more time in the water and on better jumps as well, this was an epic morning out with a legend of a guy, we will be returning and doing this again, its brilliant
Thank you all very much
If I could give u 10 stars I would!!!!!

Despite its unusual name, Tunnels Beach is a beautiful and peaceful beach resort that is perfect for swimming in a tidal pool and enjoying the views. The beach has finely carved Victorian tunnels connecting it to sheltered bathing areas, a cafe/bar, and even a tidal pool.
Amazing location that mustn't be missed if you enjoy wild swimming! £3 entry is worth the experience. Changing and toilets available. Small coffee/gift shop. Check tide times for the best time to go. Highly recommended

Great out of the way beach. We only saw the ladies beach, as the men's beach was closed for a wedding.
With half the attraction closed to the public for a private function, the entry fee should be reduced to compensate, or at least inform customers when they pay. Rock pools and waves crashing on the rocks, made a nice day on the beach.
MrFEFZY — Google review
Well maintained. Toilets that double for changing rooms, which is fine. No shower. But none of that is why you're here. You're here for the tidal pool, and it is ace. Brave the temperature and you'll be rewarded with a bracing swim, great view back up the cliffs and out to sea. The pool really is best 3.5 hours after high tide. A bit of history and whimsy.
David Taylor — Google review
This is a wedding photographers dream venue! I love the uniqueness of its setting and how the spaces inside and out provide the perfect backdrop to the ocean. Outside ceremonies are superb! Great team who make sure everything is on point for the day's celebration and couples can arrange to have their preparations in Bath House or the Courtyard apartments. With access to the beach when the tide is out it gets even better in the evening when it is closed to the general public and you have the place all to yourself in the evening, meaning if you do get lucky with the weather it's one of the best golden hour and sunset spots around! Super atmosphere for a party into the evening as well. Can't wait to go back! Here's a few frames from a Springtime wedding.

Had a wedding here- amazing food and venue. Thought it was great!
Stayed 3 nights in the bath house.
The bath house accomdation rooms- we were lucky to have a room with two windows which open to let air in. Many of the other rooms either had no windows or windows opening into the main dining area which was hot. I think I would have had a few sleepless nights being warm if I was in one of those rooms.
The rooms- the noise does travel from the floors to the rooms. The house itself has been decorated beautifully. Good a TV in the room/ shower was great.
Also, perhaps a baby gate for the stairs to hand in the dining room and bath mats.
Lastly, there was no information on recycling. I don't know if North Devon council compost food/what you csn recycle at kerbside but giving the large house and volume of waste it would be good to be able to recycle as much as possible!
Location is great and parking to hand.

Tunnels Beach is an absolute must-visit on a lovely sunny day! The beach is stunning, and the tunnels add a unique and interesting element to the experience. The water is crystal clear, with pebbly beaches with sun loungers on hand on use. It's the perfect spot for a relaxing day at the beach or to explore the rock pools.

Would highly recommend a visit to here … very nice beach and relaxed atmosphere, tickets are about £3-4 per person to enter and this allows you to re-enter all day. There is a small shop there that sells drinks & food halfway through the tunnels and they also rent beach chairs for £2 for a whole day. In general the beach was clean, it was not overcrowded and had a great feel to it. Unfortunately they do not allow dogs onto the beach though so if you have dogs don’t go here!

Historic, fairly quiet family and beautiful beach in Devon. There is small amount which £3 need to pay to enter into this beach. Cafe, toilets, gift shop and changing rooms are available. Four tunnels add a unique and interesting element to the experience. It's 200 years old beach.
There are pay and display car parks available near to tunnel. Remember it close at 6PM. This is an absolute must visit beach. Highly recommend

Was taken by surprise by this - wasn’t expecting the spectacular views. Cost £12.50 for us (family of 4) to enter.
One of the beaches was closed due to a wedding, however we did enjoy what we did see - it is obviously a popular spot but it wasn’t too overcrowded.
Would recommend beach shoes for children if you do visit as beach is rocky as is the water if they paddle.

The Tunnels. Wow. What a venue! I can’t say that we have been to any other wedding venue with your own private beach!
The location alone is enough to make you interested in The Tunnels but when you get to look around the venue it’s all beautiful. The ceremony space outdoors is great, amazing views to the side and backed with cliffs made it a great space for photography.
We love the multiple levels at this venue. It really allows you to enjoy the views. The reception room for meals and the evening entertainment has huge panoramic windows which, when you have a location like this, is exactly what you want.
The sunset on the evening we were there was gorgeous. Being able to watch it from such a great view while chatting around a fire pit has to be one of the top ways to end your wedding day right?!
We are both huge fans of Devon and love being by the coast. If this sounds like you then you should definitely look at The Tunnels for your venue. The location, venue and staff are all amazing. You won’t be disappointed.

Didn't know what to expect. But wow, to see all the history and even walk through the history makes you feel like you've gone back in time nearly 200 years. To see the pond slowly reveal itself is amazing. So much to read regarding events and disasters. The old water pump is only just about still standing. It's a great place to go. Buy one of their books about the place too, less than £3 and worth every penny... go you will enjoy it.. Worth the £3.50 to get in.. and the ticket lasts the day so you can go and come back as many times as you like on the day you've paid for...

Absolutely beautiful! When the tide went out the rocks appeared....Great for paddle boarding, snorkeling and swimming. Just be mindful of the rocks if the tide is in. It was fairly quiet on the beach but parking can be somewhat of a nightmare but you will eventually find a space. There is lots to do if you've had enough of the beach. You have the tunnels, arcades, rides etc. Great place to visit 😊👍

This was one of the best decisions we have ever made, of course after deciding to get married!
Tunnels Beaches itself as a venue is breath-taking. In the wind and rain, as well as the sunshine (all of which we had within an hour!), the views are incredible, the beach is stunning, and the venue itself is comfortable and quaint, with all the modern comforts.
The staff are incredibly accommodating, with special thanks to Anita, Jax, and Naomi, all of whom took the time to listen to our various requests and accommodate everything above and beyond. They were enthusiastic and lovely, and really helped to make our day special, especially accommodating our wish to have the ceremony outside, even when it looked like it would pour with rain!
The food was delicious, and we can wholeheartedly recommend everything we had, ESPECIALLY the freshly barbecued jerk chicken. There is enough variety for everyone, from older folks with more specific tastes to those who will eat anything and everything, and it was difficult to convince ourselves to leave room for cake!
We also had the pleasure of staying in two of the accommodations - Runnymede and Woodlands. These were two very different but incredible buildings, with Runnymede (recently renovated) offering a traditional, wooden feel, although equipped with modern and impressive bathrooms and kitchen, and Woodlands providing a similar, but more sleek and modern design. The rooms themselves are spacious and the beds comfortable, with both kitchens being comprehensive and easy to use.
I can safely say that the higher price is very much justified, and I certainly would say that, if the price is the only thing holding you back, you should absolutely book Tunnels while you can!
The Ilfracombe Museum is a quirky little museum with eclectic collections of natural history items and cultural relics & curiosities. It has an exciting location in the Victorian laundry of the Ilfracombe Hotel, and features eight rooms full of interesting seafaring artefacts, vintage home appliances, antique craftsmans tools and more. Under 16s are free to enter, and it's well worth a visit for all sorts of curious collectors.
Lovely little museum, with the normal eclectic mix of English treasures. I particularly enjoyed the radio 2nd world war interviews, the war photos and letters in the end room and the virtual train journey projected against the wall.
Potato’s Flying — Google review
Lovely well maintained museum, it holds a range of every day items from 1800's up to fairly recent times. Covering War times, social changes and evolution of Ilfracombe.
Although with how times have changed, I wonder if some of the artifacts could be returned to their natural collections. Egypt and Peru.
The wedding cake from 1900s and every moth and butterfly you could imagine.
It's a great little place to stop and if the kids like arts and crafts then why not do some brass rubbing. £2each.
Volunteers were so informative, friendly and just a pleasure.

A fascinating look at history within the old laundry buildings of the Ilfracombe Hotel (demolished 1976). Many artifacts seen in other museums but many also unique including the last Morse code equipment used and the last message sent before VHF took over.
Well worth a visit with an educational area for youngsters to learn about history through playing and doing.

Great little museum full of interesting collections from local and far.
The kids found it interesting too would recommend

Brilliant little museum. Lots of interesting things in such a small space. We got there at 4:30 and they close at 5pm, the staff were ever so obliging by asking for a donation instead of charging us full price. Highly recommend!!! Wish we had more time to explore, until next time.

Quite a quaint addition to Ilfracombe, situated behind a nice garden area on the way to the tourist information, this building was once a laundry establishment for one of the big hotels back in the day.
Inside the museum is a collection of model ships a ship to shore communication station. A remembrance area with an early wheelchair. Memories of early years associated with Ilfracombe.
Another part of the museum there was an old kitchen area and a workshop. There was also a collection of stuffed animals from around the area and abroad.

Small museum with lots of information!
The gentleman at the museum was very helpful giving additional information which really enhanced the experience.
There's a great history of the area including slides of when the railway steamed into Ilfracombe.
Learn about one of the grandest and largest hotels of its time in the area.

The museum had a variety of exhibits from the Victorian era right up to this century! Definitely a place to visit.
Ilfracombe Harbour is a popular tourist destination in Ilfracombe, Devon, England. It is said to house a great deal of history and makes for one of the best things to do in Ilfracombe.
Fantastic harbour with all the souvenir shops, fish and chip shops, and pubs you would expect at the seaside. There's lots of seating which is good for watching the boats, and at low tide, a small beach appears which is ideal for dogs and kids to have a play. There's plenty of parking available but be warned that the roads are very narrow around the harbour.

Absolutely love coming to this place, usually only for Rolys fudge but such a beautiful little harbour/town
This time visiting we took the scenic walk along the top, this didn't fail to please. We also took a look at St Nicholas church on top of the hill right next to Verity who looked as stunning as ever.
A little disappointed that all the shops seemed to be shutting up shop before 4 o'clock I guess it's seasonal but this is half term week.
Look forward to visiting again next year!

Revisiting lovely Ilfracombe for the first time in a while. Quite a while in fact as Verity Statue was being built on last visit I think!?! Lovely scenic harbour with tiny Chapel lighthouse on hill. Lots of shops galleries eateries and ice creams around harbour.

So pretty. Parking was cheep. There was lovely shops and food places. We spent time watching the rnli doing a practice which was very cool. Verity a Damien Hurst statue stands proudly looking over the harbour.

Verity and the ice cream shop are great and it's also very pretty from high points. While we were there two groups of locals went past effing and jeffing and the chips were awful.

Illfracombe is just Lovely. Parking at the harbour, was an idyllic setting for our short visit. Lovely harbour nice little place to walk around with lots of little shops and quirky places. We went up capstone hill for some amazing views.. fabulous, but not an easy climb especially, for people like me who require a hip and knee replacement. Remember parking is free after 1800 so don't get caught for 4 1/2 hrs charge from 1600 as I did...should have gone to spec savers!😊 Highly recommended

Great for a day out, there is a new £3m water sports centre being built, this is due for completion, summer 2022. Ilfracombe has the usual seaside shops & numerous fish & chip & pasty shops & takeaways & great pubs, a harbour side fresh fish shop, caught & sold locally. Oh & verity is stood on the sea wall.

Lovely Harbour with Verity looking out at sea. Dotted with places to eat, art galleries, pubs, and restaurants. You can also get to Lundy Island from here.

Really pretty harbour hosting the Damien Horst statue. Views are stunning and there is plenty to do around the harbour with an aquarium, chapel you can visit and a working RNLI station. Although we didn’t use it the parking seemed to be popular for the town. Plenty of shops and facilities nearby as you’d expect, as well as various boat tours.
Bryn Davies — Google review
Lovely place to have a walk round and walk up to the different view points. nice harbour, a variety of shops n lots of places to eat . Lots of different car parks. Just one set of toilets open at the moment down by the pier.
Rose Hughes — Google review
Great selection of freshwater and sea fish. From the valleys to the sea there's something to interest everyone including young children and adults. Lots of factual information to absorb. Crabs, lobsters, rays, starfish and other creatures from the shallow and deep.
There are offers for family tickets and froendly staff available inside for questions and knowledge exchange.
Definately worth a visit as a part of a bigger tour of the ilfracomve area maybe encompasing the museum. We stopped at number 11 for a coffee but there's a nice sheltered cafe here at the aquarium.
The aquarium is located at the pier so lots of interesting shops to pass on the way maybe for some chips, I've cream or fudge. This site is not far from the ever imposing verity statue and some of the sea safari tours. So plenty to do straight after your visit.

Wow soo beautiful. A must visit. Lots of little shops and cafes. Very picturesque. Lots of steep hills to give your calves a good workout. Take a coastal walk up elephant mountain (don't attempt if you struggle with steep inclines) its breathtaking at the top. Well worth it though.

Very pretty. Good car park right next to the harbour, land train for £5 from here every 15 minutes takes you for a ride around the area. Busy when I visited last week early June. Shops nearby.

Beautiful harbor with a stunning landscape. The shops and restaurants around the harbor provide plenty of good food and merchandise. Plenty to do while not being too tourist driven, this Ilfracombe is a must see! Parking is hard to find but check the top and bottom sections of the high street.

Damien Hirst's public sculpture, Verity, is a 20.25-meter tall stainless steel and bronze statue of a pregnant Amazonian figure with a sword. The sculpture overlooks the historic harbour of Ilfracombe in Devon, England. It has received mixed reviews from art critics for its uncompromising nature and resemblance to the Statue of Liberty.
Absolutely stunning piece of artwork by Damien Hirst. Parking (payable) available right next to her, but do walk around the harbour and admire her from afar too.
Tara Sanders — Google review
Wroth visiting for the wonderful piece of art! Love the story behind it and what she represents. I highly recommend visiting if you are into looking at art installations!
Chloe Westall — Google review
This is a piece of public opinion dividing art!..stunning large sculpture of Verity in the harbour looking out to sea. Thought provoking and debate making work by Damien Hurst. I can imagine how much this could have caused some concern when erected by the local people as some would feel the sculpture rather graphic. Personally I really enjoyed seeing her set against the sea with a church on the cliff top to the left of the harbour bringing further reason for conversation. Parking in the harbour area and several other tourist information signs for other parking with views of the sculpture. Outside attraction so except for the parking charge free to view. Disability access throughout and public toilets in the harbour car park with disabled access.

Just beautiful, especially when you realise what this sculpture represents. I love Verity and have visited her everytime I've come to Ilfracombe.

What an amazing statue. Standing so tall and strong. It's beautiful and gross at the same time but when you really look at it it's amazing.
lynn buckey — Google review
The stature looks awesome! It's cool to see the baby inside her belly. I like that she symbolises truth and justice cause it fits. The scale in her hand shows justice and the torn skin the truth (cause you can see everything (literally!))
Also the cliffs there are stunning and you can make a historic tour on a lifeboat! And a parking area is there too.
Greenapple Arrow — Google review
Very impressive sculpture but a bit weird.
When stood below, the size of the sculpture is insanely beautiful. Stretching up into the sky above you. However its a bit weird in terma of subject matter and shows the inside of a pregnant woman. I know its art but I think its a bit weird.
However from this point the views of the harbour are stunning and not to be missed.
Phoebe Hunt — Google review
Beautiful sculpture. If you walk around the bay and pick the coastal walk heading towards Hele Bay you will be rewarded with a spectacular view of the harbour and Verity herself.
Karla Barrett — Google review
A beautiful statue one of the best I've seen in the world. And a great place for it with the sea in the background I imagine it looks even better in stormy weather
Stephen Wicketts — Google review
We visited 'Verity' on a holiday in North Devon. It is a somewhat controversial statue liked by some people, disliked by others and thought about by others. It is a pregnant woman standing on a pile of legal tomes holding the scales of justice by her side and a sword aloft. It is constructed using stainless steel and bronze with a polymer strengthened glass fibre sword. To many people seeing the statue from one side is too much, you can see a foetus inside the body as the skin has not been included. Damien Hirst, the sculptor describes it as an allegory of truth and justice. It made me think, and that is a good thing, in my view statues should be more that a pretty object.
Gerard Harris — Google review
Visited Ilfracombe yesterday and came across the sculpture of Verity, quite a thought provoking statue, I had to look at it from all angles, such an amazing piece of work ❤️ I can't wait to look up the background into the statue, thank you Damian Hirst for such an amazing piece of art

I'll never travel to Ilfracombe without this trip planner again
The Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park is a family-friendly zoo in Devon with an indoor soft play area, a train ride on the Dinosaur Express, a dinosaur museum, and more.
Came here with my 5yo son had a great afternoon! Lots to see and explore.
The sea lion show was a bit of fun, but, my favourite thing was feeding the South American tiny monkeys strawberries (not sure if this was allowed?).
The cafes and shops are very reasonably priced which was a nice surprise!
I think this place would suit all ages and obviously animal lovers (though most creatures are caged).
Definitely worth a visit!!

Order tickets in advance (online) for a discount, even on the morning of the same day qualifies.
Lots of parking on site, but steep walks to and from the car park. There are also lots of steps throughout the park, which are wide enough to get a pram up and down, but there are no routes around them, or slopes/non-steps routes that don’t skip huge areas of the park.
The park is setup as 2x trials through the woods with animal enclosures and plastic dinosaurs (some animated/mechanised). None of it is too scary however, with our 1.5yr old being perfectly happy all the way through. There is also a soft play area at the start of the park (access included in the ticket price)

Visited when I was younger year after year, 20 years later went with my girlfriend and recreated some old photos 😅. Quality day out, cafes, all sorts of animals you could think of, museum, Tombs everything. It's like many parks all In one, ever in Combe Martin this is a must visit for the family, couples, everyone.

Loved it here we went with our nearly 2 year old and she loved the train and soft play as well as all the animals. Only down side is the amount of hills and disabled/buggy access restricting you from seeing some areas.
Missi Mo — Google review
Wow! Really enjoyed it here. Staff were super friendly, all animals were amazing. Lots of great talks that happen daily I think! Very knowledgable staff. Meerkats and sea lion talks are a must! You can get cheaper tickets if you purchase online. Great picnic area. Dinosaur area for kids, and adults that are interested! There was also an east egg hunt when we went that was great fun. Only negative is that it’s a very vertical site. Wheelchair users, prams and the elderly may struggle.
Adam James Photography — Google review
Great day out for all the family, dinosaurs and wild animals everywhere.... watch out for the cheeky parrots in the trees. All the animals are well looked after and it shows as they are lively and out to greet you. The wolves are very lively and watch you as you walk past the enclosures. The primates area was the most entertaining with the lemurs jumping everywhere. We loved the meerkat also watching them going along there daily business. Food was very good. I recommend the bacon brie and cranberry baguette. Almost forgot about the sea lions, they were amazing and we timed it just right with feeding time.
T_P Outsider — Google review
When reading reviews and seeing people say how steep and hilly it was, I didn’t actually think it would be that bad! However, pushing a pram was rather challenging. I would also avoid if pregnant as it is hard work! I would also think again about taking kids who are not fans of walking as this would be challenging. Some of the paths in the dinosaur area / Japanese garden are not wheelchair or pushchair friendly. Steps appear out of no where and no alternative route but to turn back.
The car parks are so steep there’s even signs saying please apply handbrake ect!
The park itself was good value for money! The sea lion show was funny!
Some parts of the park need a lot of TLC. Especially the Japanese gardens, there was hardly any water flowing down the steam. You could tell it needed a lot of work but has such great potential to be beautiful.
The park itself is a little hard to navigate, the maps are not accurate and they are located on little signs on the walls. There’s not much clear signage as to what part you are going.
The train ride however was the biggest waste of £1 each i have ever paid. Kids on the train even passed comments on how pointless it was!
Food was lovely and had great variety. The kids meals were great value.
Soft play was also a bonus that they have there!
However entrance to the park was shocking, there’s no ticket or anything you have or band / stamp to say you’ve paid. You can walk into the park through the disabled car park and there’s NO form of security / ticket office what so ever! I could have literally walked in today and not got caught or questioned by anyone!!
Overall, a good day but I don’t think I would return again! Especially because of those hills!

Lovely place. not overly busy and in a beautiful valley setting, our son loved it.
The animals are beautiful and hearing the wolf howls echo around the valley was amazing.
As its in a valley there are steep paths, so differently abled people may find the going a little slow. The only real negative was the train raid, it was over in less than 5 mins and our son was upset. We thought perhaps it took us around some of the animals but its literally a quick forward and back ride to a small waterfall. Other than that it was a great day day trip on our short holiday.
Andrew Hussey — Google review
Mixed feelings about this wildlife centre, while there were many animals here which were under preservation, I do think some of the enclosures could be bigger - especially for the lions and the wolves. I understand this would mean a higher budget than the centre could afford but it seems a bit unethical to keep animals known for being in huge plains stuck in relatively small area.
Apart from this, I think keeping some of these animals from extinction to be an actively good cause and I liked how the wildlife centre put up notices about climate change, litter, and respecting the animals.
I guess zoo’s and wildlife centres have become a moral grey area! I just want the best conditions for these animals but I’m sure the workers there want that too.
Lastly, here are some pictures of all the amazing animals I met :)

Another fantastic day out although very sad that both lions have died since our last visit but they now have lots and lots of Wolves, lovely day out, great indoor soft play, car park and entrance is very very steep so keep that in mind, parts of the park are also steep so if you are taking people in wheelchairs you might want to avoid or make sure the wheel chair is powered, also elderly people or people will l with health conditions might struggle with parts of the site. Totally worth a visit though, for kids and adults of all ages. Buy tickets online before your visit to save money.

Nice afternoon out. I thought it'd just be for the kiddies, but very interesting about how our planet was all those millions of years ago.
Some nice animals to see as well, including 2 full grown lions, & also a sea lion show. I thought it was well worth the £16 entry fee. Only negative is it's not for those who aren't very mobile on the old legs, it's very hilly.
Paul Barratt — Google review
Our son loved it, it's the perfect combination of zoo and dinosaur park making it ideal for an enthusiast of both. Easy to find and lots to look at, it's a great day out. Make sure to find time to watch the sea lion show and listen to some of the talks.

Amazing place that really cares about its animals.
Supports many projects that benefit animals worldwide, is set in beautiful landscape, has a great selection of animals to see, and the staff are always really helpful and genuinely love their job.
All of this at an excellent price!
Can't recommend it highly enough.
Some steep terrain around the park, so be prepared for some walking!

Absolute Joy to visit here once again , was just my wife and I this time so we could go slowly and enjoy the parks offerings , some of the dinosaurs are looking a little dated and in need of a little repair but it didn't ruin our trip , absolutely loved the Howling Grey Wolves too !

It's a nice day out, but it's looking so run down and tatty. It's a shame to see it like this as I remember as a child it being so much better. Animals look comfortable and looked after.

Good selection of animals, with decent sized enclosures. Sea Lion show is a must, Morgan is a legend ! Enjoyed the dinosaur theme too and the Egyptian tomb. Very steep coming down from the carpark, so probably best to drop off anyone with mobility issues at the bottom. Really good day with the family, would definitely recommend.

Visited here in the summer. Had a pushchair with me which was doable but it is extremely hilly and a few sneaky steps too. Spent around 4 hours here with my little boy. Steep climb back up to the carpark. But 100% worth it
Great to watch some of the Animal talks and chat to some of the keepers

We really enjoyed our afternoon in the wildlife and dinosaur park. The children loved the jungle Dino section and the sea-lion presentation.
Lots to see throughout the park.
They had fun in the indoor play area whilst the grown ups enjoyed a coffee.

Friendly welcoming staff and a zoo with a look of quirks. Staff are knowledgeable and genuinely interested in questions. Gift shop is reasonably priced and the animals all look well looked after. Be wary it is incredibly hilly and a hard walk

White a small park with not a lot to do so don't take all day. One of the best thing here in my opinion is the sea lion show which I would recommend. On the other hand the small train was a £1 pp on top of the entry fee. Oval My family enjoyed our time here but will not be returning.

If youre looking for a adrenaline-pumping adventure, the Cliff Railway in Lynton & Lynmouth is the perfect place to go. It's a famous railway that runs between the two towns, and it's fully water-powered so it requires no external power sources. The railway rises over 500 ft (152 m) along 862 ft (262 m) of track making it the highest and steepest railway in the world.
An excellent family trip up the hill. A pleasant and peaceful experience ideal for all the family. There are loads of cafes and shops in the town at the top and the views are spectacular.
Parking (via RingGo) is about £1 an hour and it was almost full when we went (a quiet Friday according to a local shopkeeper).
The train itself cost just under £5 (one way) for 3 adults and one child under 12.
Recommend for all ages especially if you like a bit of engineering!
Graham Todd — Google review
A very well presented water powered cliff railway, everything was very clean and well looked after. Even every bit of brass was polished to a very high standard. The cafe at the top of the cliff does really great cream teas with loads of gluten free options. Unfortunately a little cloudy but views across the Bristol channel to the South coast of Wales. Like any lift railway capacity is limited in the carriages so expect a wait at peak times. At the time of our visit £3.30 for adults and £2.20 for children single journey.

This was the best experience ever. The simple physics that makes something so beautiful and useful is mind-boggling. Its history of it is even better with the one family serving it for 108 years in 3 generations as engineers and builders. Lovely members of staff beautiful display of its souvenirs 👌👌👌👌

Wonderful to see a Victorian piece of engineering still operating today, and not just a couple of times a day but every ten minutes or so. The alternative is a very high gradient, switchback track (tarmacked) that rises approximately 300m from sea level at Lynmouth to Lynton above. The views are spectacular, across to Countisbury, and the lighthouse (where you can also walk around the area but it's steep), the prices reasonable (£3.50 each way as of July 2023) and the staff polite, friendly, funny and engaging. It's beautifully presented and cared for, and I would suggest standing outside of the carriage on your journey up and down, but be advised they don't allow dogs out there.

When you do go up to the top, don't forget to walk out and visit the rest of the twin and beautiful shops.

Lynmouth is a stunning place. Get there earlyish to get parked in the main car park. The o street only has a 2 hour limit.
The railway itself is small, it’s reasonably priced with great staff.
One thing to note is the entrance to the carriage is quite narrow. Our pushchair was a bit of a struggle.
Once on, the views up just get better and better. There’s a good view from anywhere. It’s amazing how long this ride is. It always feels safe, but can be a little jerky.
Once at the top, the view is fantastic. There are places to get incredible views. It rained on our last visit, so didn’t get much chance to get the “proper “ camera out.
Lynton is just a small quaint village, it’s a nice walk round with some nice shops.

Nice view and quick ride. May be 1-2 hours are sufficient for this attraction. If you go early morning no issue for car park and queue at cliff railway. You cannot buy return ticket, after coming down you have to pay again. I believe it was £3.50 for adult and £2.50 kids and £1 for dogs.

A day out to Lynton & Lynmouth. Never been here before today. Wow. Was so lovely. It was a bit steep going after the moors, coming from Minehead, but hey ho. It was worth it.
A great place to spend a day. It was sunny, but then we got dumped on with torrential rain - see the video.
There was a funicular railway to go up or down the hill, but we walked the steps. Quite steep, but do-able if you go slowly in wet weather.
Had a coffee and cake in a local shop, chatted to local artist in his gallery, and had a very enjoyable time in these friendly towns.
You can go for a walk off into the gorge, but we didnt have the weather for that on the day. It'll keep for another visit in better climatic conditions.

Beautiful views from this wonderful cliff railway, it really is amazing that it has been here so long and still operating the way it always has.
Although we paid for returns, we took the wagon up and ended up walking back as there were so many delightful things to see coming down the hill. It onlv cost 3.50£ each side !!!
We were 4 adults together, trying to be seated in the front row to capture and get best view!
You can have best home made scone at top, next to the top entrance, must try that one.
So delicious.. costs around 4.20£
I tried hot chocolate, that was fab….
You can explore small village there on top, with church, museum, Restaurant, and ice cream shops and you can come down at any time through rail.
It closes at 0700pm.
When you go top to the cliff you will find variety of ice cream shops which serve ice creams shakes as well.
Shop name Nana Jude’s.
Absolutely love the old school arcade games, even better that they are only 2p, 10p or 20p a go. I recommend please taking cash to use them. The gift shop was lovely, and again good pricing so you can actually buy something after paying the entrance fee.

Decided to visit here on a bit of a whim as we had a day with nothing planned. So glad we went, it was brilliant. Nice cafe at the top, lots of picnic tables (some under cover) where we sat and had a coffee watching the railway.
Looking down the rails it's very impressive just how long and steep it actually is and you can see the pulley and how it all works.
Staff were really friendly and they had treats for our furry buddies.

We visited here while holidaying nearby in Woolacombe. Myself, wife, and two boys aged 11 & 4, and our dog. We were lucky to get a parking space on the street opposite a Londis at the top of the railway. It seemed most people parked at the bottom. This meant we didn't have to queue to board the carriage. The views are breathtaking. The carriage was clean and looked well maintained (which was a relief to my wife as she is afraid of heights) it travels slowly and relatively quietly, which didn't freak the dog out.
It seemed pretty expensive at £9.20 for a single, but it is a one of a kind journey after all. You dont have to travel on the train to go up and down the hill. There is a walkway that zig zags back and forth over the railway via 3 bridges, which provides great views of it. The area around the railway has plenty of dog friendly coffee shops, a few pubs, and a nice little town with some more quirky shops and plenty of places to eat.
Would definitely recommend.

Can't wait to visit when the weather is feeling kinder!
Stopped in the cafe for some lunch, and was very pleased to find Celeriac Soup and a GF Cream Tea available and I wasn't disappointed - delicious!!
I shared my scone with a very friendly Robin whilst watching a host of other birds flit about from feeder to bushes... Exactly what I needed to calm my mind.
Looking forward to exploring the trails when they aren't quite so wet and slippery, and hopefully my bird spotting skills will have improved by then also.
Awesome place.

400 m steep but manageable path way down, not very hard , so can be done. Worth visiting, the nature here is great. I suggest visiting after closing hours because that way you might be there alone and enjoy the nature in peace. Parking is paid for national trust members too and costs £1 per hour

Beautiful, just beautiful! Watersmeet is a must if you're visiting North Devon. Parking is on the road above the gorge, note, although Watersmeet is National Trust, the car park is not, so payment is required. This is a rugged place, good walking shoes are recommended. The walk from the car park is straightforward, although, a little steep. At the bottom you'll come to the tearoom, a good selection of drinks & lovely things to eat are available, there are also toilets here, plus plenty of seating. There are several walks around & along the gorge, route maps available in the tearoom. Whichever route you take, watch where you're putting your feet, some paths are high above the gorge, narrow& with no barriers. A truly breathtaking location.

Lovely views and pretty walks (some challenging underfoot). The tea room has declined over the years (perhaps the staff shifts are too long - we arrived later in the day and the staff looked frazzled and struggling to maintain a suitable decorum). The gift shop has sadly gone. The cream tea was made from good quality ingredients.

Once we had parked and found the entrance it was easy to find a national trust map board and choose a route down the river and through the woods. Expect to be walking up and down quite a lot on rough paths. We walked all the way to Lynmouth harbour and back following the river. Would definitely recommend this for walkers and family's. The cafe was just in the best spot.

Absolutely stunning place to stop. Car park was £1.30 for an hour. The walk down is quite steep, there are a couple of walks you can do that start from the cafe. The cafe is national trust and served food and drink. Dog friendly. Birdwatching was fun too!

Breathtakingly beautiful walk and the house is stunning with the sound of the river running not too far away! Lovely food and a good offering for such a tiny cafe. Lots of seating outside but none inside at present
Reduced to 4 stars as the set up is a bit ridiculous and took ages to get our order done. Also prices are so inflated beyond what is reasonable.

The most beautiful walk. It can be challenging in parts but on the whole an easy walk to the tea rooms. We then walked back to Lynmouth. Just took us over 2 hours. Highly recommend

Cash only to pay for parking in the council run parking area. Free parking further up the road but a 1 mile Riverside walk to the NT owned Watersmeet cafe. The woodlands walk to Lynmouth is quite steep and high up in places . The river side walk is easier. Both very picturesque.

Great National Trust gem. Beautiful walks for all abilities. Lovely tearoom, too. We spent several hours there following the river. Thoroughly recommend visiting.

The outdoor activity organiser Exmoor Adventures is great because it provides friendly, warm service with positive vibes and great quality equipment. They are located in an awesome part of the world, and their bikes are full suspension which makes them very comfortable to ride.
We had a half-day tour for a family of four novice e-bikers in the hills above Porlock with Dan, the owner of Exmoor Adventures. The bikes were great and easy to use, the tracks were challenging, but manageable, the scenery was beautiful and extremely diverse, and Dan was a fantastic guide. He was friendly, knowledgeable and able to deal with all eventualities, including two punctures along the way! We will definitely be back to do more mountain biking and try our hand at the kayaking.

Thank you so much for 2 days of adventures Dan and Jack - 1st Buxted O'Brien's Own Scout Troop had an amazing time kayaking and mountain biking. There was a good mix of instruction, free paddle/ ride and fun games...and plenty of falling in! We'll definitely be back next time we camp in Exmoor!

Hire an electric mountain bike from Exmoor Adventures, the guys there really helpful, provided a Garmin with a route on it, off I went and had a lovely few hours riding in glorious scenery. The bike (a Specialized Turbo Levo SL) was great, so highly recommend Exmoor Adventures and a ride around their amazing backyard!

This is a review of two halves… to save reading, both are very positive!
We rented 3x full power FS eMTBs and formed a small group to complete the Beacon Blast with one of the Exmoor Adventures team (Jack) as guide…
Part 1 - Excellent high-end well prepared bikes, friendly advice, and amazing local knowledge that meant we got the best route for the conditions and our abilities. The scenery is spectacular and the e-bikes make longer distance blasts more accessible. Highly recommend.
Part 2 - My brother had an accident at the end of our ride - just a few hundred meters from the end of our last off-road section. These things happen, and is all part of doing the sports we enjoy… In this instance, his leg was broken and getting him off a cold and wet hillside to safety was not easy. This is where the benefit of Jack’s outdoor training and competence kicked in, as was outdoor survival equipment. A dangerous situation was professionally handled. The team from Exmoor Adventures were scrambled, and emergency teams coordinated to come to our aid. We cannot for the way they handled the issue. When you are booking these sorts of activities, this training and experience is what you are buying, even if you very rarely have to use it! Again highly recommend

I rented an E - Bike from Exmoor Adventures, it was great.
Friendly, warm, positive experience that has meant I will 100% be a returning customer for not only the E-Biking but some other activities they had advertised.
The bike was awesome, full suspension, and of great quality. Clean, and well maintained!
A great little business tucked away in an awesome part of the world.
One word of advise to those renting an e bike, really research your route, Exmoor can be unforgiving even with a motor, and you don’t want to end up pushing.
Still, a great adventure and an awesome day out. Can’t wait to go again.

Dan was very friendly and helpful when we hired e-bikes during our recent visit to Porlock. We had a fantastic time cycling a route set up for us on the Garmin and we were fully prepared with a kit bag provided for by Dan. Renting the bikes made our weekend, cheers Dan!

We signed up for the free e-bike taster session, after a few years of not cycling. Dan was a brilliant guide who assessed the ability of the group very quickly and took us on a route that would have been a definite challenge on a standard mountain bike, but achievable when you use power assist.
Dan’s skill at assessing the group so quickly resulted in some more technical climbs and some fun descents. Overall, a lot of fun and a real confidence booster.
Thank you Dan!

We had a guided bike ride on e bikes around the exmoor countryside yesterday and it was absolutely brilliant. Jack was knowledgeable, conscious of safety, but still very relaxed and put up with our gas bagging between cycles. The bikes were great and we all surprised ourselves at how easy it was to cycle over some pretty rough terrain and steep hills. We all loved it (6 ladies) and will definitely be giving it a go another time. Thanks guys I've already recommended you.

Superb experience, highly recommended. Bike was superb, together with a tremendous guide in Dan. We went on some fantastic tracks and trails, with wonderful scenery. The top of Dunkery Beacon was a sight to behold.
Many thanks Dan. To anyone who fancies a bit of adventure, book Dan’s guiding, or hire one of their superb bikes and explore this wonderful part of Somerset.

Exmoor Owl & Hawk Centre is a place where you can see some of the finest owls and hawks in the world. You can watch flying shows, ride horses, or even go on an alpaca trek.
I really enjoyed the owl and hawk flying display. Beautiful birds who seemed very happy and loved their owner and aviary. The trainer had lots of knowledge and was great to listen too. He really made sure everyone got to see the birds up close and was really interested in the welfare of his animals and doing what they wanted. Because of this we saw a lot of their natural behaviour and spent more time watching them. Clearly he has a great bond with his birds and he shared with us not only the facts but their personalities. Wonderful way to end our holiday. Would definitely recommend.

Grandson (11) and myself had a lovely time - I did not know there were so many very different types of owls. Such beautiful birds and obviously well cared for. After a tour of the enclosure and reading about each one, we went into the barn where we met each of four different owls who flew between us perching on our arm so we could get a really good look. They were all lovely but I think Shadow - a lovely grey owl specially stood out - but no, they were all so different I couldn't chose a favourite . An experience well worth the money and grandson had the added bonus of looking at the numerous horses and ponies as well. Thoroughly recommend.

Can’t recommend more to go there and spend a day or two in the farm. The place is so unique abs with a character!
The house dates somewhat 600 years old and has absolutely special vibe. We stayed at Foxden room with private bathroom and we’re very pleased with our stay. The room is lovely, all perfectly clean.
We had hawks and owl experience, owls are so magnificent! It worth to see them all in the Owl Garden.
We were touched by Cathy’s warm welcome and attention, and also by her Inspirational Barn with the story of her life and how she created the place as it is now.
For riders there are horses, we only shorted saw them in the stables which was also a great experience. All are different and beautiful.
And great breakfast too! Very much recommend!

Whilst staying in Minehead for a holiday, we booked to do an hours private owl flying experience at Exmoor Owl & Hawk Centre.
We started off by being invited to visit all of the birds they keep at the centre in their own enclosures (they have around 30+!).
We were then taken into a private barn where we got to fly three birds each, and learnt loads of new facts about them and how they behave in the wild.
It was a really brilliant experience and something you don’t get to normally do when visiting bird centres. The experience leader was really friendly and very informative.
We then we’re invited over to the stables to meet the horses and a lovely lady who who worked there told us all about them and let us meet them up close.
100% would recommend to anyone who loves birds and wants to try something a bit different!

I booked to stay at the hawk and owl centres b &b with my elderly (although very mobile ) mother , to have some mother and daughter time as due to the pandemic we had not seen much of each other . The farmhouse is a place of peace, tranquility and cocoons you in warmth and friendliness . We had the most wonderful stay , the room was comfortable and welcoming . Quietness and beauty all around us. We strolled the lanes and paths , so much to see. We also had the absolutely thrilling British owl taster experience. Complete surprise for Mum and she has not stopped talking about it . Rod and Cathy are perfect hosts and we had the perfect stay.
Thank you Rod, Cathy and team for all the care and kindness.
Having written this a while ago - may I add how absolutely devastated we were to hear about the passing of Cathy . Such a wonderful and inspirational lady . We are so saddened for Rod . Also the sad news that the centre is now closing .
What lovely people and lovely place , it has been a place of peace and tranquillity for many people to visit . Such a great loss in so many ways.

Had such a magical visit this afternoon. The owls were beautiful, and to see them so close and watch them fly was something special. The host was very knowledgable and we found all the insights into the different species so interesting. Brilliant way to round off our holiday in Exmoor!

Spent the morning flying various owls as well as kestrel, buzzard and Harris Hawk. The owner (Rod) delivery was perfect, we was able to walk around the grounds at our leisure before going into one of the Barns to fly the younger birds. Personal favourite was the ‘barn owl with a tan’
Finish off with some cream tea provided by Cathy.
2 x very happy customers

Informative and entertaining presentation of rare and beautiful birds of prey. Gives you an opportunity to see the number of owls up close. Presenter was very knowledgeable on the topic, although a little bit rude when answering the questions.

Fabulous place to visit. Horse back riding on to the surrounding mountains. A great owl demonstration and interaction. The people here are wonderful.

They offer a number of activities but we went to see the birds of prey and watch the flying display. A very informative talk was given while the display was on. They also have refreshments for sale which are very nice, served by nice friendly staff. A pleasant place to spend as sunny afternoon in a tranquil setting. Make sure you check opening times.
