(Translated by Google) We visited this museum on July 1st. I really liked the museum itself and the story of the guide Ksenia. We travel a lot, often go on different excursions, there is something to compare with. Ksenia not only spoke competently and answered all questions professionally, but the presentation of the material itself creates a relaxed, creative atmosphere, which, of course, is very captivating. She joked and spoke emotionally. So we recommend everyone to visit this museum and, if you’re lucky, listen to the guide Ksenia. Perhaps all the tour guides at the museum are wonderful, but we had a wonderful time with her. Moreover, there were not only adults, but also teenagers, and they also “got it.”
Best regards, Inessa

Alexandrovskaya village (Александровская слобода) is known from the XV century. From 1505 she served as the country residence of Grand Duke Vasily III, from 1564 to 1581 - the residence of Tsar Ivan the Terrible (actually the capital of the state, the center of Oprichnina). The Trinity Cathedral (1513), the Intercession Church (16th century, was part of the palace of Ivan the Terrible) survived.
The Chaos — Google review
Alexandrov Sloboda was the residence of Ivan Grozni. Often in English he is interpreted as Ivan the terrible. However it is not accurate and what does it mean is his presence generates fear. He was someone who integrated Russia and unfortunately after him the Romanov dynasty took over the reigns of Russia. For some years he renounced his kingly power and entrusted the Kingship to some subordinate and lived in Alexandrov in silence and prayer. Later he went back to Moscow and took over power. Ivan Grozni gave a holistic foundation for Russia.

This attraction is particularly worthwhile! In Moscow we took the metro to VDNKh station and took bus 388 to Sergiev Posad from the almost adjacent bus station (bus goes 4 times per hour). Very cheap and in any case very fun and interesting to experience how something like this works in Russia outside the big cities. Well, very good indeed! The bus journey takes about 1 hour and 20-30 minutes and when I arrived in Sergiev Posad I asked bystanders in which direction to walk to the Lavra and within 2 minutes I saw it. You automatically arrive at the walking route past the viewpoint (see photo) and once inside the gates of this picturesque Lavra, it cannot possibly escape your attention that this tourist attraction is particularly popular in Asia. Had lunch at a stall and returned satisfied a few hours and many photo opportunities later. It is therefore very worthwhile to visit this Golden Ring place, even though it is not as dazzlingly beautiful and impressive as the Pechersk Lavra in Kiev.

Visited here in September, 2014.
This unbelievably colorful abbey (or cathedral?) is the center of the area called "Sergiyev Posad". According to what I have googled, this abbey is like a symbol of Russian Orthodox Church.
You can go there by train from a station in Moscow, taking about 1 hour. It's long a little bit, but you don't have to change a train on the way, so it might be just a great chance to see beautiful sceneries of the Moscow suburb from a train window.
Personally I guess those who haven't been to Russia can never imagine this country really likes something colorful, especially churches and palace, but it is not the case. Once you have come here, sort of stereotype in your mind would be changed.

Свято-Троицкая Сергиева Лавра.
Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra. A historical legacy of the historical development of the orthodox church in Russia,
The building is shaped like a broad fortress and inside there are several buildings such as churches, monasteries and other buildings. In this place, you will find a lot of priests coming in and out between the prayer hall and the dormitory.
When you enter the church complex you will see a magnificent gate with various paintings on the ceiling. The thick walls which partly start to peel with age but are maintained and well cared for.
Besides being actively used as a place of worship, this place is also a museum.
If you have free time you can stop by on the left side of the entrance there is a cafe run by a church that sells typical Russian food and according to the menu, all foods sold there are also menus of priests and residents of the monastery.
Inside the area, you can find several shops selling various souvenirs, complete from key chains and simple magnets to beautiful and expensive icons. If you like jewelry and crystal work you can also buy it there.
If you feel hungry around there is a bread shop, cafe and fresh fruit seller in the area.

The Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow is a must-see for space nerds who love learning about the USSR's legacy in space. With extensive displays on the history of Russian space exploration, as well as exclusive exhibits on Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, you'll have a hard time leaving this interesting museum empty-handed. Open Thursday through Sunday 10am to 7pm, Monday closed.
Read some reviews that said it's OK, but just OK. The experience was very different. Firstly, it's super easy to get to, right by VDNKh station. Secondly, there are a number of original pieces that are amazing to see in person, from sputnik-1 to the Soyuz descent module and everything in between. During the soviet time russia was the center of space technology and exploration. Soviet scientists led by Sergei Korolev opened new frontiers in space. From the labs in siberia to lauch pads in kazakhstan the glorious soviet space age is preserved in this museum in moscow.
I found this place very interesting as almost every first satellite to dog to space station that was sent to space is preserved here.
Lyka the first dog sent to space has a memorial here and the exact craft that took lyka into orbit is at display.
Sputnik the first ever man made object to be in orbit has its replica and the entire history of it can be found here.
I got a chance to visit a dummy space staion and see the amenities used by the astronauts with my own eyes.
Only few people know like nasa Russia also had their space shuttle known as "burhan" But it never flew from Cosmodrome in kazakhstan.
Space capsules that have returned to earth is at display, the black burn out skin of these capsules makes you wonder about the tremendous heat of re entry. Touching that was a dream come true for me.
I most most interestingly the space suit of michel Collins is preserved here. Michel Collins was one of the apollo astronauts who flew with neil armstrong and landed on the moon.*
Even the first man in space yuri gagarin his space suit and every belongings are here.
This place is home to so much knowledge and a chance to see and touch the star stuffs which only can imagine and see on televisions, etc.
Hope you guys Enjoy the pics
Thank you.

Located in the heart of Moscow, the GUM (State department store) is a popular shopping destination with luxury boutiques and international brands. With a semicircular glass roof and Russian medieval architecture elements, it is an impressive sight. After 1812, the moat that once surrounded the Kremlin was replaced with sand and the walls were eliminated, opening up rows of numerous shops for a large Classicist building.
It is an amazing place with great atmosphere. The shopping experience was great, the variety of the different boutiques makes the shopping experience easier and enjoyable. You have to try their famous ice cream and gelato that can be found all over the mall, the information desk is really helpful they can speak English and are ready to help you. money exchange service is available in the mall. The washrooms are also clean, there is a fee for using the washroom which is a great idea .

A must to visit if you are visiting Moscow!
What a great shopping mall is this !
All the expense brands are located here like Rolex, Cartier, Salvatore Ferragano, Hermes, basically all the expensive watch brands etc etc.
Maybe a weird advice but also visit the “historic toilet” which looks like a palace toilet!
It’s a real USSR shopping mall.
Highly recommended to visit!

It's the largest mall and everything inside it it is really expensive. But you need to try the ice-cream inside it's superb. And also you need to pay 100-200 rub to take a leak inside the mall. It's located on the red square. Visit red square in the night it's really great. Also you can get some awesome clicks. One of the interface is from the street where it is covered from lights all over. Have fun.

The worst shopping experience in my life! First, the restroom located only on the first and second floor. And it is cost $1! Can you imagine that the restroom in the middle of Moscow, Red square is paid! It’s insane! They also saved on the escalators, they are going only down but not up😂Also I don’t trust the quality of the products, they look like fake to be honest. Especially now, when Russia doesn’t have import from other countries. I would not trust this place!

Beautiful and luxurious shopping mall with the best ambiance possible. Long floors with all the top brands at your disposal, GUM is a must visit. The cafe’s are well designed and compliment the mall. The stunning cherry blossom trees and fountain just add to the awe of the place. Visit GUM for the sheer class it posses and be ready to be awestruck.

This is one of these places that even if you have no interest in shopping, you should at least walk through briefly. It’s amazingly beautiful and their floral displays rival the Bellagio in Las Vegas. They call it a “department store” but it seems to be more of a mall with many stores from brand you are probably familiar with and many small cafes, etc. They do have metal detectors at each entrance but only seem to do “selective” security screening as do many places in Russia.

Gum is one of the prominent malls in Moscow and located in the heart of Red square. The mall looks vibrant and aesthetically beautiful from inside. One thing which reminds me the most of it is fantastic ice creams stalls around the corners of the mall. They are awesome in taste and costs 100 rubles. It attracts many visitors cravings for yummy softies. The mall has apparels stores, electronics on its top floor, food courts, supermarkets, and cafes. One of the most expensive and tax-free malls in Moscow. Toilets charge 50 rubles and the most expensive toilet service is costing 150 rubles approx.

Structure built between 1880 and 1883 just in front of the Kremlin
Today GUM department stores with many luxury brands
The fountain, this is the central place where everyone meets, beautifully decorated for every season and always full of people for selfies.
Many brand shops, cozy cafes and Soviet ice cream in pods. There is always a big queue near this stand. Also there are actions and entertainment for visitors.
Recommend. Definitely you should go if you're in Moscow.

Lately I could not review Red Square, because Google maps wrote that Red Square 🟥 is not reviewable. I absolutely agree with that statement. To make my own statement I can say Bolshoi Theatre is not reviewable either. It is a part of history of Russia, Soviet Union and Russia again. There are certain places that can’t be reviewed. You just can express your emotions with exclamation signs 🪧 Absolutely breathtaking! Full of history! Full of culture!
The Bolshoi Theatre (Russian: Большо́й теа́тр, tr. Before the October Revolution it was a part of the Imperial Theatres of the Russian Empire along with Maly Theatre (Small Theatre) in Moscow and a few theatres in Saint Petersburg (Hermitage Theatre, Bolshoi (Kamenny) Theatre, later Mariinsky Theatre and others).

The Museum-Estate Arkhangelskoye is a grand manor filled with historic paintings and artworks, set amidst sprawling landscaped grounds. For centuries, it was the home of the nobility until the Russian Revolution and Communism forced the family out. Located in Moscow, this castle is renowned for its beauty and can be reached by a 20-minute bus ride from the Metro Station. Although currently undergoing repairs as of 03.11.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Museum Estate Arkhangelskoye in Moscow, and I must say that it was a truly remarkable experience. This historic estate, located just outside of the city, offers visitors a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Russia.
Upon entering the estate, I was immediately struck by the stunning beauty of the surroundings. The meticulously manicured gardens and picturesque landscapes create a serene and peaceful atmosphere, making it the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The main attraction of the estate is the grand Arkhangelskoye Palace, which dates back to the 18th century. The palace is a true architectural masterpiece, with its elegant facades and intricate interior design. Exploring the various rooms and halls, I couldn't help but feel transported back in time, imagining the opulence and grandeur that once filled these walls.
One of the highlights of my visit was the extensive art collection housed within the palace. From stunning paintings to intricate sculptures, each piece showcased the immense talent and creativity of Russian artists throughout history. The museum staff were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the artwork, providing valuable insights and information that enhanced my appreciation for each piece.
In addition to the palace, there are several other buildings on the estate that are worth exploring. The Church of Archangel Michael, with its beautiful frescoes and ornate decorations, is a must-see for anyone interested in religious art and architecture. The estate also features a charming Italian garden, a theater, and a museum dedicated to the history of Russian musical instruments.
Overall, my visit to the Museum Estate Arkhangelskoye was a truly unforgettable experience. The combination of stunning natural beauty, rich history, and incredible art made it a truly immersive and educational visit. I highly recommend this museum to anyone visiting Moscow who wants to delve deeper into Russian culture and history.
The Savvino-Storozhevskiy Monastery is a significant Russian Orthodox religious site boasting an impressive architectural design and featuring 15th-century altar frescoes. It is a popular destination for tourists visiting Moscow, but it's best to avoid weekends and church holidays to avoid large crowds. Visitors may have the opportunity to view the stunning panorama from the bell tower with permission from a monk.
Great place to spend at least half a day while visiting Zvenigorod. Beautiful scenery, history linked monastery, plenty of exhibition places, nice stylish canteen.

On one of the most famous and largest streets in Moscow, the courtyard of the Zvenigorod Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery is hidden, built in a pseudo-Russian style with elements of modern and baroque.
Previously, when walking in the center, it was hard not to notice one of the main decorations of Tverskaya, but in 1939 it was hidden from view. An interesting story is connected with its movement: the building, which weighed 24 tons, was moved deeper into the quarter at night - rails were laid under the foundation and smoothly transported to a new location. At the same time, the residents were not relocated and were not even specially warned. It is said that many of them discovered the change only in the morning, looking out of the window, and must have been very surprised at the unexpected move.

A must-see place for any tourist traveling around Moscow. But do not come here on weekends and church holidays, for crowds will ruin one's experience. If you are lucky, a monk may allow you to come up the bell tower. The view is magnificent. The sound is deafening.

Monastery is ok, but you will find inside the walls a pearl, a bakery shop and a café with amazing pastry, cakes, chocolates, 100% handmade and fresh. Very tasty everything. Queue of ppl to buy bread, etc... But it's worth to do it. It's cheap. Shop and café (you can eat everything you can buy in shop here) has amazing decoration, medieval style. Café is located upstairs, just in one of the towers and a door brings you directly to the walls... really beautiful place to eat/drink/rest.
The New Jerusalem Monastery is a grand monastic complex built in the 1600s, located in the countryside and boasting a cathedral and underground church. If you have time visit it. It is not like Petergoff, much bigger, and more places to see. Visit her palace and hermitage both interiors represents her unique personality. Hermitage pay is around 300 rubels. The entrance to the park around 150 rubels, and to the palace maybe 900 rubels, different prices for Russians. The queue to the palace can be very long. But everything is much more organised than in Petergoff. Gives you a very nice overall experience. Inside the park you can find fast food like hot dogs, tea and icecream... all around you when you walk the big park. Will take you one full day and you still might not finish it all. The Faberge Museum is a private museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, which showcases a unique collection of Easter eggs by Carl Faberge as well as a range of decorative and applied artworks by renowned Russian jewelry masters. The Shuvalov Palace in which it is housed offers an exquisite backdrop to the treasures on display, making it an essential stop on any visitor's itinerary to the city.
A gem of a museum (no pun intended) in St. Petersburg and a "must visit" for anyone who appreciates fine craftsmanship. The level of detail is absolutely mesmerising and it is refreshing to witness that so many pieces have survived conflicts, wars and natural disasters over the centuries. Not only are the exhibited pieces worth admiration, but so is the interior design of each exhibition room.

Totally waste of time and money. It's more expensive than inarguably better, more interesting and much more comprehensive museums such as the State Russian Museum, Russian Ethnographic Museum or State Hermitage Museum. The price of the ticket for just small museum with only a few exhibition halls is 500 rub and you have to pay an additional 500 rub for audio guide. We didn't buy the audio guide thinking that at least there must be some small descriptions of the works but there wasn't any explanation. Let alone the descriptions, there was even no name near to the artifacts. Instead of wasting your time and money here, go visit State Hermitage Museum. If you did already, visit again, it's impossible to finish it at one time anyway. Money trap.

A visit to the Fabergé Museum at the Shuvalov Palace in St. Petersburg surpassed all expectations. Housed in the lavish 18th century palace since 2013, this museum holds the world's largest collection of Fabergé eggs, providing an unparalleled glimpse into Russia's golden age of decorative arts.
The museum's origin story, driven by Viktor Vekselberg's altruistic vision, adds a profound layer to the experience. The meticulous seven-year restoration of the Shuvalov Palace, involving 300 specialists, reflects a commitment to preserving Russia's cultural legacy. The result is a captivating journey through 12 meticulously restored rooms, each housing 4,000 exhibits that vividly portray the opulence of the time.
The Imperial Easter Eggs showcased in the central Blue Room are true masterpieces, blending intricate jewelry and artistic brilliance. The narrative surrounding the first Fabergé egg, the Hen Egg, is not only fascinating but also emotionally resonant, providing a unique window into the personal lives of the last Romanovs.
From the historic charm of the Grand Staircase to the diverse exhibits in rooms like the Red Room, Anteroom, and White and Blue Room, the museum captures the essence of Russia's rich artistic history. The Gothic Hall's collection of Orthodox icons and the Knights’ Hall's military-themed art further enhance the immersive experience.
The Gold Room, featuring courtly treasures and objets de fantaisie by the House of Fabergé, stands out as a highlight. The museum doesn't just showcase Fabergé's brilliance; it successfully connects visitors to the imperial history of St. Petersburg and Russia.
In summary, the Fabergé Museum at the Shuvalov Palace is a true gem in St. Petersburg, offering an enchanting journey through Russian history and craftsmanship. A must visit for those captivated by the splendor of a bygone era.

A breathtaking collection of Fabergé! The Museum demonstrates just how broad of work the House has created. Not only are you able to be so very close to some of thee most prized and historic pieces e.g. THE EGGS, beautifully preserved and displayed, these pieces are history, and a must see for any jewellery lover! Throughout you are given an immersive experience and in for such a surprise in each room!

Very compact and easily accessible museum! The museum is full of beautiful artwork. One thing I didn’t like was the fact that they have no descriptions for any of the eggs and related stuff. Come before 1 to avoid long queues.

Fontanka River Embankment, 21, St Petersburg, Russia, 191023
This is a multicolored church that was designed in traditional Russian medieval style. It took over 20 years to be completed and it features 7,500 square meters of mosaics on the walls and ceilings. The building is impressive for its strict architecture, but it seems like a toy from afar due to its bright colors.
Cathedral On the Spilled Blood, Saint petersburg
This place is one of the main center of Russian orthodox Christianity. The orthodox Christianity is bit different from roman catholics. Different rituals, different patriach and different design of church.
This cathedral is one of the most cathedrals in the world. The decorations both inside and out are beyond anyone's imagination. The mosiac walls are common in middle eastern churches but it's interesting to see this art reached far north in russia. Its very interesting to how they make an image with small stones of different colors. Its a pain staking job and the final result is breathtaking.this is something like pixels on lcd screens.
Origins of orthodox Christianity is in Israel (Infact Judaism, Christianity, Islam all have roots in jerusalem) then to holy roman empire in istanbul and eventually found its way to Russia.
My effort to capture the beauty and detail with a mere mobile phone is definitely futile as nothing can compensate the beauty of this place but the human eye.

One of the most beautiful churches in the world. Audioguide is available for a small extra charge (2.5 EUR), however fully worth it to get to know the story why this church was build and what the purpose is of the interior
Chirag Bhoraniya — Google review
Excellent facade of the church which was grand and exquisite. Unfortunately the church was not open to visitors at the time of visit. The church was erected on the site where political nihilists assassinated Emperor Alexander II in March 1881 and that gave rise to the name of the church
CK Cheong — Google review
As this Church much reminds on St. Basil's in Moscow it's not that old (neither is St. Pet as a city), but it has a very interesting history and breathtaking interiors which make it a must visit site. History facts:
- it was built in 1883 to commemorate the place of Tsar Alexander II assassination in 1881 - therefore "spilled blood",
- the Romanov imperial family funded the project,
- in order to house the exact place of assassination inside the Church, they narrowed the canal,
- after the 1917 Revolution overthrowing the Imperial regime, it was looted and semi-destroyed,
- WWII and Leningrad siege brought further destroy and it was turned into a morgue,
- after WWII Communist regime banned Church services likewise in all Russia, making it a warehouse,
- it was rebuilt during the 90's and reopened in 1997
- toady it's not a working Church, but the world's biggest mosaic museum with over 7.500 sqm of amazing artwork.
- photography is allowed, entry fee around 8$

The exterior is incredible. It fits that Russian Orthodox look that is so iconic. Truly a beautiful work with great architecture. The interior was... eh? Very crowded, there wasn't much successful work done to preserve the walls and ceilings. It is sad honestly.

i visited this church in happier times. Built on the spot of the bombing assignation of Alexander II. Construction began two years after the assassination in 1883 and was complete in 1907.
Although not very old (even by American standards) the church is breathtaking and an important place in orthodox Christianity.

Must visit. 10-15 min walk from Church of spilled blood, the Kazan cathedral is seat of the Orthodox bishop of St. Petersburg. It is consecrated to the Virgin of Kazan, the most revered icon of Russia. Try to visit in evening 5:30/6pm during the evening prayers. The experience is just magical. This is a place of worship.

This is very historic cathedral and the mother cathedral for St Petersburg. It is still under restoration after just 20 year reopening, after closed for decade under Soviet time. You have to prepare some Rubels for entrance fee.

Kazan Cathedral or Kazanskiy Kafedralniy Sobor (Russian: Каза́нский кафедра́льный собо́р), also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan, is a cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church on the Nevsky Prospekt in Saint Petersburg. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Kazan, one of the most venerated icons in Russia.
Construction of the cathedral started in 1801 and continued for ten years under the supervision of Alexander Sergeyevich Stroganov.[2] Upon its completion in 1811, the new temple replaced the Church of Nativity of the Theotokos, which was disassembled when the Kazan Cathedral was consecrated.
The architect Andrey Voronikhin[3] modelled the building on St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.[2] Some art historians assert that Emperor Paul (reigned 1796-1801) intended to build a similar church on the other side of Nevsky Prospect that would mirror the Kazan Cathedral, but such plans failed to materialize.[citation needed] Although the Russian Orthodox Church strongly disapproved of the plans to create a replica of a Catholic basilica in Russia's then capital, several courtiers supported Voronikhin's Empire Style design.
After Napoleon invaded Russia (1812) and the commander-in-chief General Mikhail Kutuzov asked Our Lady of Kazan for help, the church's purpose altered. The Patriotic War over, Russians saw the cathedral primarily as a memorial to their victory over Napoleon.[3] Kutuzov himself was interred in the cathedral in 1813; and Alexander Pushkin wrote celebrated lines meditating over his sepulchre. In 1815 keys to seventeen cities and eight fortresses were brought by the victorious Russian army from Europe and placed in the cathedral's sacristy. In 1837, Boris Orlovsky designed two bronze statues of Kutuzov and of Barclay de Tolly which stand in front of the cathedral.
In 1876 the Kazan demonstration, the first political demonstration in Russia, took place in front of the church. After the Russian Revolution of 1917 the authorities closed the cathedral (January 1932). In November 1932 it reopened as the pro-Marxist "Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism".[4] or, as one contemporary writer put it more baldly, "Leningrad's largest antireligious museum", complete with Spanish Inquisition waxworks . Services resumed in 1992, and four years later the cathedral was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church. As of 2017 it functions as the mother cathedral of the metropolis of St. Petersburg.
The cathedral's interior, with its numerous columns, echoes the exterior colonnade and is reminiscent of a palatial hall, being 69 metres in length and 62 metres in height. The interior features numerous sculptures and icons created by the best Russian artists of the day. A wrought-iron grille separating the cathedral from a small square behind it is sometimes cited as one of the finest ever constructed.
The cathedral's huge bronze doors are one of four copies of the original doors of the Baptistery in Florence, Italy (the other three are at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, United States, at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, United States, and at the Florence Baptistery itself).
The Kazan Cathedral is considered to be the model for the neoclassical style of Helsinki Cathedral, one of the most iconic landmarks of Helsinki, Finland.

The huge palace of Emperor Paul just started to turn into a museum. For a long time there was a naval school. Now museums are much smaller than a quarter of the building, but restoration work is underway. A special impression is left by the private chambers and the office of Emperor Alexander 3. Small rooms and low ceilings contrast sharply with the luxury of the rest of the building.

The Great Gatchina Palace is a palace in Gatchina, Leningrad Oblast, Russia. It was built from 1766 to 1781 by Antonio Rinaldi for Count Grigori Grigoryevich Orlov, who was a favourite of Catherine the Great, in Gatchina, a suburb of the royal capital Saint Petersburg. The Gatchina Palace combines classical architecture and themes of a medieval castle with ornate interiors typical of Russian classicism, located on a hill in central Gatchina next to Lake Serebryany. The Gatchina Palace became one of the favourite residences of the Russian Imperial Family, and during the 19th century was an important site of Russian politics. Since the February Revolution in 1917 it has been a museum and public park, and received UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1990.

The Vyborg Castle State Museum is located on an islet in Vyborg Bay and was built by the Swedes in 1293. The castle has undergone many alterations throughout history, with most of it being from the 16th century. The museum offers a range of exhibitions, including a small museum on local history as well as displays about the civic history of the Finnish period and ecological makeup of the region.
I visited the Vyborg Castle State Museum and was thoroughly impressed by its beauty. The castle itself is a stunning example of medieval architecture, set against the picturesque backdrop of Vyborg. The museum offers a rich display of historical artifacts, providing deep insights into the region's history. Walking through its ancient halls and climbing its towers was like stepping back in time. The scenic views from the top are breathtaking and well worth the climb. Overall, the Vyborg Castle State Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in history and architecture.

As with all the places I go, let me review on basis of certain parameters.
1. Accessibility : Accessible by road and rail, as Vyborg town is significant in terms of transport.
So you can access from St. Petersburg or from Sortavala.
2. Content: Museum, St. Olaf Tower and the walls of the castle. The information for each artefact and historical items was accompanied with a Russian, Finnish, Swedish and English explanation. The museum showcases the history of Vyborg town, its humble beginnings, a section on the Winter War.
3. Toilets: Available.
4. Wheelchair accessibility/Disabled friendly? No.
5. Picturesque location? Yes.
Worth the visit? Vyborg Castle is good to visit, and can be planned for a day trip from St. Petersburg , if time permits, otherwise it is recommended to stay in this place.

Olavinlinna is a 15th-century castle that has been renovated and now houses Orthodox Christian relics and objects. It was built on a rock in the middle of a lake to serve as a military base on the eastern border of the Swedes. The castle remains unfrozen in winter due to water currents, which hindered enemy attacks over ice. A guided tour lasting an hour is required to explore the upper levels, such as towers and chapels, where guides vividly recount its history.
Best castle in Finland. Located in a small yet beautiful town of Savonlinna. Could spend a day or two during summer exploring the town, there are beautiful churches and cafe's.
!! Better to check their website for timings before planning the trip !!

Olavinlinna is a very well maintained fortress which can be visited. The family ticket (non guided tour) is 25€ and it offers the opportunity to go around the castle in the different rooms. In each room there is a nice description of the history of the specific room. It's a nice castle with a lot of history since xv century. However it has been extensively commercialised and modernised with restaurant and cafe that take space from visiting area and do not have any relevancy or ancient theme on them. If they had an ancient theme it would add value to the castle and to the experience. The opera part creates mixed feelings on me for the above reasons.
The guided tour explains many things and I suggest everyone to go on it. It lasts 45 minutes and you get to go to places otherwise forbidden.

Revered art gallery in the restored Narva Castle & fortress, all set in parklike surroundings.
The museum costs 4 euros make sure to visit this place if you are in Narva! The museum has a tower where you will get an amazing view between Estonia and Russian castle, there is an elevator however it only reaches the 3rd floor from a total of 7.
They will also give you a coin that you are able to exchange for a souvenir, which is a really nice perk.

Museum with a very informative tour of the history of Narva.
At the entrance we were given phones that told us more info after scanning at a given exposures which was really helpful (texts in Estonian, English, Russian, Finish and Latvian).
The architecture and the design of exposition was very interesting and interactive, however, the navigation in the museum was a little bit confusing and we got lost few times ( and I guess we did not see it all 😅)
The overall tour was great and you can also see beautiful views from there, worth to visit!

I was born in Narva, but I left Estonia when I was around 18 years old. So, it's been around 12 years since I saw Hermann (=Narva) Castle (the white tower)! It is the most beautiful place in Narva in my opinion. It stands on Narva River which divides Estonia and Russia. When I was a child, I remember that the Castle had extensive collection of artefacts and items from various periods of time to showcase the history of Narva and the castle itself. I also remember that it was quite hard to climb upstairs for me! However, when I visited castle now, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they got elevator! The exhibitions are now skillfully curated to show different moments of Narva's history. It was great to see physical objects, 3D animations of the life in the medieval Hermann castle, 2D story of how life has changed over many centuries, and old movies of Narva. I loved the views from the top of the Castle!
Apart from that, you can explore the yard of the Narva Castle, see various crafts displayed (you can buy them also), and gift shop. There are usually various craftspeople from Estonia and around the world in the summer time, but I missed them because there was preparation for a concert in the yard. I grabbed some traditional drink, kali (or kvass), which was poured in lovely mug. I had to drink it fast because I noticed swallows flying around, and I managed to photograph their chicks on the Castle's wall!
The area around the castle is lovely for a walk. You can pass it and see "clock" scupture, for example. There's lots of swallows and seagulls flying around. If you fancy to explore seaside city called Narva-Joesuu, you can go to the port near the Castle and catch Caroline.
Overall, if you have just a day in Narva, you definitely should visit this place. The history of Narva is really remarkable.

Very interesting to visit. Helpful guides tell about the history. Also possible to grab medieval food and drink. Possibilities to shoot at the archery range, visit torture chamber, apothecary and more. Place is family friendly and interractions can be found for everyone. At summer is also possible to attend events such as demonstration of medieval battle

The ruins of Rakvere Castle are magnificent, with well-restored fortress walls strong enough to withstand some climbing. However, be cautious during winter climbs as it can be slightly dangerous, and it's fully at your own responsibility Enjoyable exploration of multiple inner rooms reveals surprises. In the Hall of Swords, you can try realistic replicas spanning from the 10th to the 19th centuries. Ramified passages and galleries are well interconnected.
The Alchemy Hall/room of science houses some interesting artifacts. Every few hours, fascinating excursions take place, such as visits to the torture chamber or the room of science, where you hear wonderful stories about the life, death, and beliefs of medieval European cities' populations. In the middle of the castle, a nice farmyard with sheep, goats, rabbits, geese, and even a wonderful donkey has been established.
Nearby, there are informative tables discussing the relationship between the Brothel and expression of Love in the medieval population.-) Additionally, there's a very nice and atmospheric eating place where, for 3 euros, you can enjoy a warm and delightful glass of mulled wine.

If you have interest in history and museum stuff then it's worth to go inside. Even though if you don't have interest in history still you can walk around the castle, it has some breathtaking views of the city and a pleasent cool breeze to enjoy. 🏰

This place is very beautiful, it’s brings you back to 16th century and you will imagine what sort of life the people has during those times. It’s highly recommended to visit and see the old castle.

Easy to get around (even with kids) and lots of stuff to do with the price of the ticket. Wraps at the shop were superb.

This is an interesting place worth visiting to plunge into the Middle Ages. Chickens and rabbits run around the yard. Soldiers are on duty. It was very knowledgeable to hear about the justice system in the Middle Ages. The torture chamber makes you wonder why such cruelty was needed. In the basement, there is a "room of fear" attraction called "Hell," so if you go down there, try to find your way up, or you will be trapped there forever 👻👣🙀😆

Absolutely stunning and breathtaking. The castle just has so much history attached to it and is truly quite the sight to see. If you are in Estonia definitely do not miss out on getting to see this place. It's located in Rakvere and It is open until 4pm and you can go inside and walk around. As well the town itself is also be beautiful and had a great atmosphere.

Excellent example of a mid evil castle. Excellent representation of the period with plenty to do and see for young and old visitors. There are some steep stairs and uneven grounds and cobblestone to navigate, but can be done if you go slowly. Well worth a visit if you are in Estonia.

Very nice place to go. Enjoyed it a lot. Went with a tour group from NCL Dawn. Had lunch there and was also good. Only negative is if you have trouble with steps. The castle is on a hill with about 100 steps to go up.

Great experience!! It is a proper fort with live show of cannon being fired and different stations like archery, a sword room, torture chamber with a dark hell room! Overall a great experience for kids and adults alike. The gift shop also has cool gifts and wooden swords , axes and slings for children.

One of the best guided tours I had. The guide was very knowledgeable, with good sense of humor. Expositions in the castle are very informative and interesting. We were here with a group of school kids of 11-12 y.o. and everyone really enjoyed the tour. :) Highly recommended :)

Warm B&B in a circa-1600s building offering rustic rooms, plus a lounge, a sauna & free Wi-Fi.
The apartment we stayed in was even nicer in real life than the pictures showed. We were very happy about our stay, and the staff was very service-oriented and accommodating to our needs. We could check in a little bit earlier than usual, and also leave our luggage for some hours after checking out, while we were strolling around in the old town before taking out bus back to Helsinki. Thank you for a wonderful comfortable stay!

We (two adults) stayed at Ida-Maria in Jan/2021 for two nights in ”Pieni huoneisto, puutarhanäkymä”.
The room was lovely, cozy and clean. Delicious breakfast and very good service! All of this in the heart of Porvoo Old Town. Would absolutely recommend to anyone.
