The Ibis Carcassonne Centre La Cité is a clean and comfortable hotel located close to the city centre in Carcassonne. The staff are efficient and helpful, and the rooms are spacious and well-equipped with free Wi-Fi. There is parking available underneath the square.
Good bed, good view, bathroom very little.
Service was excelent.
Breakfast very good, need to clean up the tables more faster.
Front desk excellent and very helpful. Thre show us where to go for dinner, and the way to the old town.

Karen at reception was so rude. She threatened to call the police on us several times for talking in the bar area, although she was serving us drinks…. Please make it make it sense??? If you serve drink at a bar all hours of the night then you should expect us to speak at a reasonable volume, not whisper! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone
dillon redmond — Google review
For an Ibis hotel this is a good hotel because of the central location and 24/7 reception and bar. Also a large underground parking facility just in front of the hotel for 7 euro per day. Walking distance to the Carcassonne Castel.
Rooms are in Ibis style, meaning small, tasteless but it serves okay as bedroom.
Dave Visser — Google review
A clean hotel just off Gambetta Square about 10 minutes from the centre of Carcassonne and 20 minutes from the Cité. Mine was a last minute booking because of the travel disruption due to the Tour de France. I found the staff to be efficient and helpful, even finding a charger for my phone. There is parking underneath the square.

Staff were excellent, helpful. Breakfast hit and miss, shortage of sliced bread, hardly any fruit (grapefruit, orange etc), toaster broke, just one morning of our 3 day stay, other days were okay.

Good location and would recommend the breakfast.
Air-con does not work and the room could have been a bit cleaner - coffee cup stains on the dresser.
Luke Hall — Google review
I know this is a hotel, but it has a welcoming bar but unfortunately as 'a non guest ' we can't use it. It's a shame because actually there isn't many places open in Carcassonne open for drinks. Lesson i've learnt in France, book in advance and don't expect to be welcomed as a walk in customer. It's a culture shock as a fellow European :S

We stayed here for 2 nights and we had a good experience. The rooms have air conditioning and have WiFi and TV. The reception area is welcoming and the staff are very friendly. There is a bar which is well equipped and a breakfast area which is buffet only. Overall a great place to stay.
John Landry — Google review
The hotel was convenient for both the medieval castle and the town centre.
We arrived via the airport shuttle bus, cost €6 pp.
The rooms were quite small but had everything you needed, except tea & coffee making facilities. The shower was excellent. The beds & pillows were comfy.
The tv only had BBC news in English.
There was a good choice for breakfast, but the only hot option was scrambled eggs. You could squeeze your own fresh orange juice.
The staff spoke very little English.
Louise M — Google review
At more than 100 euros per night you wouldn't call it cheap. Sure, breakfast is very rich, but prices at the bar are outrageous with 3.5 euro for the Evian! The rooms and the bathrooms are really small, lacking such basics as fridge, waste basket and providing only two and a half medium sized towels.
The worst is that housekeeping isn't meticulous, dirt from washing the paws of our dog wasn't cleaned in the shower (keep in mind that they are charging 5 euros per day for pets). Empty bottles or other used glasses not taken away (remember no waste basket in the room!).
The location though is good, both for the castle as for the center and the staff pleasant.
Irene Cotrina — Google review
Definitely the worst Ibis i've stayed in. Rooms are an okay size but the toilets are tiny, you could just about sit on the toilet, wash your hands and shower all at the same time. The air con wasnt up to much tried it on all settings but it was more like a fan just blowing hot air around. Location was perfect but unfortunately thats all it had going for it.
Greegs — Google review
Stayed for one night when we travelled over for the rugby league. The rooms were small but comfortable and clean. There was a lot of noise from doors banging from early in the morning which disturbed my sleep. Breakfast was good (continental) for 10 euros.

Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery is an enchanting gem that surpassed all my expectations. Its ancient Romanesque architecture and serene ambiance create a captivating atmosphere, while the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea add to its allure. Exploring its historic corridors and tranquil cloisters was an unforgettable journey through history and spirituality.
Additionally, visitors will find convenient facilities including toilets and a restaurant, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience at Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery.

Super beautiful romanic church/kloster, really impressed! Adult Entrance fee is 6€. If you're up for a little hike I completely recommend the walk from the furthest parking lot. Starting at Santa Helena de Rodes, Menhir, Castle of Verdera and later down to the Monastery. Outstanding views. It has some challenging parts but my girlfriend did it with sandals, so its doable.

Absolutely worth visiting, beautiful location, interesting building
Audio guide is very useful. It's worth hiking hiking the loop trail up to the Castell de Verdera and to the village ruins and church.

Drove up here after having lunch in Cadaques. Nice 30 minute visit in the monastery for €6pp followed by a 30 minute hike up to the ruins on the hilltop. The hike is short but very steep and can be tricky at parts. Monestery has toilets inside, parking is free outside.

We paid 8€ for a theatized guide it's more of a family thing, but we actually enjoyed it even though we didn't have a kid with us. The guide did a great job. She is so good with what she does. She was well informed. The place is so beautiful with a lot of history. The views from the top are breath taking. If you want to visit this place as a family and you want your kids to have fun during the tour. I recommend you pick the (guía theatrizada).

Best place to hire your kayak. Pao is the nicest guy on earth and was really helpful to plan our trip around Creus cap. We could check the wind together, the places to stay on shore at night and we learned so much about the place as he is really into sharing his knowledge. Lovely! And the equipment is also really top quality. I would recommend or maybe I should keep it as a secret. Thanks for this experience.

Did a two hour excursion, fantastic. Heavily focused on safety and fun. The equipment was in great condition and the guides were experienced and knowledgeable.
Would definitely book again.

Our family of five had a great excursion with Ali and Jordi and highly recommend. They are fantastic ambassadors for the area, passing on interesting local knowledge and nature facts. They arranged transfers for us to and from the kayak centre which was really helpful. Thanks again Pau, Jordi and Ali, we had a great morning on the sea. Christine, Simon, James, Myles & Oscar

amazing experience, which was completely unexpected...as the guia (tazos? sorry dont recall the name correctly) was funny, experienced yet patient enough to teach techniques, knowledge of the marine life and history....especially the kayak in waves was breathtaking!! 100% recommended!!!

They speak English. You can leave your bag behind at the store, change to swimming, and carry what you want to carry in a waterproof box. Waves are nice and smooth near the coast, all level of kayaks are available.
Fort Saint Elme is a star-shaped stronghold that was established in 1552. Situated between Collioure and Port-Vendres, this military museum offers captivating coastal vistas from its elevated terraces. With its advantageous location, the fortress played a crucial role in France's tumultuous history. However, it was disarmed in 1903 and transformed into a cultural site dedicated to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
Our Lady of the Angels Church, also known as Notre-Dame des Anges, is a picturesque Catholic place of worship located by the waterfront in Collioure. Built in the 17th century, it features a distinctive round bell-tower that has been captured in numerous paintings and photographs. The church has a rich history, having once served as a light station and later attracting renowned artists like Matisse and Picasso.
Charming little church, do not come to Collioure without a stop there.

The church is interesting but you need to consult the literature to learn why. It is situated beautifully at one side of the harbour and I enjoyed it for the best part of an afternoon, drinking a couple of beers at a bar on the Rue de la Démocratie, vis-à-vis.

Ancient castle complex with historical exhibits & information, with dramatic views from the top.
A fascinating site to visit, with several interesting temporary exhibitions. Lots of history and plenty to see so allow plenty of time to look round and enjoy it. We went out of season so avoided the summer crowds. Highly recommended.
Phillip Spencer — Google review
Very nice castle. Definitely take the guided tour which is included in the price. We enjoyed the tour and all the history explained. The tour lasts around 1.5 hours.
Rony Tayoun — Google review
One of the biggest and ancient castles on the region. It’s a true royal fortress as it says. There are a lot of groups of students visiting some excursions so make sure you are prepared. In the castle there are some temporary expositions including the one dedicated to the history of the place in 1930s. Moreover you can find an escape room and a projecting performance. At the end of the visit you will see the underlying rooms of the fortress. It’s as breathtaking as the view from the highest tower.
Kirill Maksimkin — Google review
Great castle, but the art exposition was awkward, too eclectic (on one wall, 10 commandments, and on the opposite, a nude woman that represented desire) and amateur. But still worth visiting
Nadia Bobkova — Google review
Very old and nice castel like on pictures not very much inside to watch but what we can do. The construction looks amazing and the vibe for the cost is worth this money :)generally if you are in Collioure you need to see this place

Very nice castle. Beautiful views of the town. If you have a child that requires a pushchair it is best to use a baby carrier or other means as pushchairs are not allowed in which makes sense due to the type of terrain. Fyi, the photo is the is a view from the top of the castle.
Natasha Simms — Google review
Amazing historical monument. Great even for English speakers, and families with children (under 18's have free entry). You can walk almost through the entire castle and take beautiful photos of collioure's city center. I would definitely pay there a visit
Loud_answerphone — Google review
It would have been helpful to have signage in English (thanks Google translate). Art exhibitions were ugly tbh. Castle itself was interesting enough, lots of stairs and different levels, stunning views and a variety of architectural styles. €7 adult. Best bit was the heart shaped bush! Avoid market days, parking is impossible.
J Lox — Google review
Collioure is a beautiful destination, all year round, with the most magnificent views. The castle is well maintained, super friendly and helpful staff. The locals are amazing, very warm and welcoming- even in the chill of winter. They are the highlight✨😊.
Jeanine Subramoney — Google review
Great views over Collioure which feel maybe more worthy of the 7 Euro admission than the castle itself. I felt a little underwhelmed at first, perhaps because many of the rooms are empty, but the more I explored the more I enjoyed the visit. Would definitely recommend a visit for the views and the historic reminder of the area of the years especially during WWII
Robert Hollingworth — Google review
In interesting and exciting surroundings on historical grounds, but in many of the rooms there is only empty space and not even information about what the room was used for or when it was built. There is potential to improve the experience for visitors.
Henrik Haugberg — Google review
Castel Royale is an incredibly well preserved piece of history with so much to explore. The views across Collioure are incredible.
It’s priced really well (€14 for a family of four). It to us 2-3 hours to get round with a free map/guide provided in multiple languages. The toilets are clean and free.
The only negative is that there is very little on show within the castle, most of the rooms are bare, so there is little to look at or read. There is also no cafe.

There are benches and toilets along the beach which is a real luxury. Especially since the walk is several kilometers long. It's very practical for walking along the beach or just strolling on the sand. I was very lucky the weather was on my side that day because I was able to take some nice photos.

When the Ancient Greeks were creating the very concept of Hell, with the dark and dastardly depths of Tartarus, brimming with lost souls wandering aimlessly amongst the most foul of creatures, they were most surely thinking of this place, this portal to the Abyss, from which no good has ever come, the very pinnacle of despicable consumerism and destructive capitalism.

We've been here twice this summer. In the beginning of July and in mid-August.
In July it was still relatively quiet and it was easy to stroll around and wander through the stores. In Mid-August it was completely packed...on a morning...on a weekday! Mostly with french visitors. Made it more difficult looking around the shops for a good deal. Also finding a parking lot became more difficult, there was a huge line when we left after lunchtime....lot was full!
Besides that it is a great Mall to spend a few hours. There's a good number of restaurants and food counters. But we just bought some Bread, Cheese and Jamon in the nice Escudero Supermarket and took a seat on one of the many comfy couches all around the mall.
The Guess store is also worth a visit. Small, but great offers. You really need quite some hours if you are looking for great deals. And it is a nice mall to do so. Parking is free, there's free WiFi and the toilets are free and clean. Pets are allowed as well (everywhere except the Supermercat).
Will come back again.

It was a rainy day so there was ample parking but limited public restrooms at the entry where bus trips lined up to relieve themselves. Once across the bridge the little town is full of local vendors and it was also a holiday so only about 1/2 were open and very few cafes so I think we hit it in a poor day. Beautiful landmark, absolutely worth the trip. The whole town of Besalú is an interesting example of medieval towns, throughout the city information is posted that explains the workings of this medieval center of power. Loved it.

Not to be missed if you are in the area. Several nice viewing areas from different angles. The best parking is on the right side right before crossing the river, if headed towards the town of Bisalu. It’s a good size free parking lot right after the around about. Don’t try to find parking in the town, it’s very hard.
Dasha Elgart — Google review
Certainly a monument to behold. Its wonderful to walk on history. Very evocative of medieval cliches (you transport yourself to those times without a lot of effort, you expect the taxman at the gate to ask you for some fee to allow your produce to go inside for selling, if you know what I mean).
However, overcrowded scene brings down the fantasy 2 notches. Signs of the times…

Real cool defensive fortification from medieval times. Leads to a small village. It has a very nice walkway along the river.

Picturesque medieval town steeped in local folklore. Tourist trap shops abound but not too many. Try the local bakery for some sweet bread.

Besalú is a medieval town with a 12th-century Romanesque bridge over the Fluvià river.
The name Besalú is derived from the Latin Bisuldunum, meaning a fort on a mountain between two rivers.
The town's importance was greater in the early Middle Ages, as capital of the county of Besalú, whose territory at one point extended as far as Corbières, Aude, in France. Wilfred the Hairy, credited with the unification of Catalonia, was Count of Besalú.
Kent Wang — Google review
A very pleasant place, I recommend visiting it. There you can take many fabulous photos and dip yourself into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages with knights and ladies.

Do not miss the old medieval bridge if you are around Besalu. It is a wonderful piece of heritage beautifully inserted in the surrounding nature. The whole village itself is also a must see and definitely worth a visit.

Besalù in Spain is a captivating medieval town, renowned for its striking Romanesque bridge that stretches across the Fluvià river. This historically rich town, a part of Catalonia, is a treasure trove of ancient architecture, including the remnants of a once-formidable fortress and a Jewish bathhouse dating back to the 12th century. The cobblestone streets, flanked by well-preserved medieval buildings, transport visitors back in time. Besalù is not only a feast for history enthusiasts but also offers delightful culinary experiences with its local Catalan cuisine. The town's compact size makes it perfect for leisurely exploration, promising an enchanting journey through a bygone era. A visit to Besalù is an unforgettable immersion into medieval splendor and cultural richness.

Carrer del Pont Vell, 17, 17850 Besalú, Girona, Spain
The Pont de Besalú is a medieval stone bridge that features arches, defense towers, two turreted gates and a heavy portcullis. It was built during the Middle Ages and first recorded in 1075. The structure has undergone periodic modifications to bolster its defensive capabilities over time. Though it suffered damage during the Spanish Civil War in 1939, it was repaired soon after and remains an exquisite pale sandstone bridge today.
Amazing, must visit Medieval town! Cozy little lanes, medieval structures makes you feel like being in old times! Many cafes, souvenir shops, and mesmerizing view. Just 9km from the Castellfollit de la Roca so one can cover bothe places within half day.

Carrer del Pont Vell, 17, 17850 Besalú, Girona, Spain
When visiting Besalú, don't miss the Sinagoga y baños judíos de Besalú, a site of great historical and cultural significance. The area includes remnants of the 13th-century synagogue, declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest. It housed a patio for festivals and weddings, as well as a prayer room. The nearby Mikveh, or Jewish ritual bath, is remarkably well-preserved and offers an evocative glimpse into ancient traditions.
The site of the Jewish Synagogue of Besalú is emotional and moving for anyone who can imagine the daily life of the Jews of Besalú, the interactions, social integration and religious separation out of piety -- a piety that Chrstians would have done well to emulate -- with everyone in the community. It is emotional if we are strong enough to imagine the moment things got worse, when the Jews of Besalú were forced to leave everything and move to Girona, a city which they hoped would provide some safety, even if only for a short while. The Synagogue remains, the classroom for the young boys, the upper level for the women, the room for Torah study, and the assembly area, are all exposed and free to visit, with plenty of places to sit and read your siddur and remember. The Mikvah is locked and requires purchasing a guided tour ticket, which costs less than 2 euros. Well worth doing. Our guide proved to be very educated and sensitive to the history, and made the private tour part of the wonderful experience. Visit Besalú, you will love it.

Absolutely amazing to see the Mikveh (=Jewish Ritual Bath) is such good condition. It was built circa 1264 and remained in use for about 150 years.

Incredible historical site. I highly suggest reaching out to the tourism office in Besalu if you want a tour of the Mikveh, as they only open it at odd hours.

Very small village. Bridge is probably the only really impressive thing u are going to find there
Lena T — Google review
This is a pretty small town with middle ages streets, bridge, tower, houses and church. The most fascinating spot however is the Jewish purification ceremonial bath (mikvah). In contrast to the synagogue on top of it, the bath, which was built below is very well preserved. This place gives a dramatic feel of that time (see photo attached). Highly recommended. The dour to the mikvah is locked, so to get in, one must set up a tour with a guide (in advance) at the tourist information office, which is situated at the other side of the bridge.

total disappointment!
Terribly hot in all floors, even in a cloudy day and not so hot outside.
Musty smell in all rooms.
While we were there we were sprayed with a smelly product!

As you can see from my previous reviews, my kids are used to visit museums. Usually great experiences.
I did said at reception how many adults and kids we were. And we did pay all the entries, be careful with slander…
Since you mentioned: it’s an abuse to consider children only up to the age of 9 y.o. Children are widely considered up yo 12 y.o. Again, an evidence that you are not child friendly.
We followed other persons to the patio, which had door opened. I guess you will offend the other customers too.
If you had air conditioning, consider install new ones, because it was insanely hot! (Maybe that’s why the patio door was open …)
Please take feedback to improve, not to offend your customers. If your museum is more suitable for adults loving circus, which I can understand, please advertise accordingly.
You will see previous reviews, from other customers, aligned with what I have just written here. Continuous improvement is an art…

Interesting museum, but a bit disappointed. The knife throwing promised on the poster is not possible. There wasn't even a knife to just pretend and take a picture. There is a toilet that acts a little bit like an optical illusion, but my friends didn't experience the illusion.

Perpignan Cathedral is a significant national monument of France and a Roman Catholic place of worship located in the town of Perpignan. The cathedral is constructed in the Catalan Gothic style and dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. It features a spacious nave with seven cross-vaults, a short transept, and apse with a vault featuring seven keys. Notably, it also showcases an exquisite wooden carving of Jesus.
Beautiful cathedral in a beautiful city, the each chapel is stunning. When I visited the church was beautifully decorated for Easter. Tip: the interior of the church remains cool even on hot days in Perpignan. ;).

Perpignan Cathedral is a must see if you are visiting Perpignan. It is a Roman Catholic cathedral, and a national monument of France, located in the town of Perpignan in Languedoc-Roussillon. It is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. The cathedral was built in the Catalan Gothic style, because of its association with the Kingdom of Majorca. It has a wide nave made of seven cross-vaults, and features a short transept and apse, whose vault features seven keys.

Not bad, if you are visiting the city it is a place to see it.
Beside that, the cathedral has nothing special.
I would totally recommend going there between siesta hours while most bar/restaurants are closed, you have sitting space, free wife and ac, to pass the time and a few interactions that are worth checking. At night when it’s closed you get (in my opinion) the best view, the lighting’s beautiful and drinking a wine at the bar across it was an amazing experience.

I have never been treated this rudely in any French city's tourist office. The two women working that day literally turned their backs on me as I approached the counter. I stood there for a minute or two and then politely asked them about the La Sanch. "We have nothing." Then they walked away and started stocking shelves.
Fortunately, I was able to find the information I needed elsewhere.
The two stars are not for the staff, but for the brochures and the beautiful building itself.

Beautiful military castle in the centre of town. It is 2 euro entry or occasionally free as I found out when I visited. There is 142 steps up to the top so this is not a step free attraction. I went here especially for Matisse's work, quite bummed as I couldn't find them, not sure if it was me or the paintings are just not there anymore. Anyway I found other beautiful works and hey, Picasso's bizarre ceramic period 😆 so many bowls. But the most interesting thing was the information about how all these painters were linked to Céret at some point. Which by the way is a very pretty small town. But I wanted to buy a €4.00 magnet from Maison de la Presse and I couldn't pay by card because the minimum was €10.00. Oh well.
There's also a Manolo's statue on one of the streets near the museum.

Overall: interesting exhibition with some weird, some great, some wrong-understood works. Just what modern art is all about.
Château de Gruissan offers a must-do climb for breathtaking 360-degree views of the town, including the salt pans, lakes, stilt houses, port and marinas, hills, and the Mediterranean Sea. Sensible footwear is essential due to rocky and uneven steps. The tower itself is in ruins but provides an insight into the area's history through information boards in French and English.
Good view to see the nearby area from the top but make sure you have good shoes to walk up the steps plus stoned path...some parts a quite narrow just need to be caution as can be slippery if its wet weather!

A must do climb for amazing 360° view of Gruissan. You can see the salt pans, lakes, stilt houses, port and marinas and hills surrounding as well as the city and Mediterranean Sea. Sensible footwear is important and not really suitable for people with mobility issues as lots of rocky uneven steps. The tower is in ruins and you can see some other areas, but its mostly rocky outcrop. Information boards of the history in French and English. Their is some shaded area to sit and rest and a lower walk around the base.

The tower is a "Must-see" in Gruissan, just for the great views out over the town. The climb up to the tower is slippery, so it would be bad to go on a damp day. Hold on to the railing! there is also a nice trail that goes all the way around the base of the rock.

All Paul Riquet is an exquisite avenue adorned with greenery, characterized by charming cafes on the sidewalk, dotted with historical landmarks and hosts a vibrant weekly market for flowers. This picturesque street is a must-visit for anyone looking to soak in the beauty of traditional French architecture while indulging in some delicious food and soaking up the local culture. The boulevard serves as an idyllic location for leisurely strolls or relaxing coffee breaks amidst scenic surroundings.
The Cathédrale Saint-Nazaire is a stunning 13th-century Roman Catholic church located on the site of a previous structure. It offers breathtaking panoramic views from its entrance, where visitors can find an employee offering tours (though not affiliated with the church). While the surrounding businesses and area may be somewhat quiet and in need of renovation, the cathedral itself provides incredible vistas of Languedoc from its high vantage point. Inside, one will find impressive architecture and decor.
A beautiful cathedral. It is even possible to climb the bell tower for free.
Worth a visit!

Beautiful cathedral with pretty panoramic views from the entrance. There's a table with an employee set up in the entrance to arrange tours, though not linked with the church, which I found kind of surprising, as I was seeking for info from the church. The surrounding businesses and area are fine for service, though it's a kind a sleepy and rundown town.

Expect amazing views of Languedoc from Cathedral Saint-Nazaire’s perch. You can see parts of the Massif Centrale, surrounding countryside, and the River Orb. The inside of the cathedral is impressive of course. Perfect for catching the sunset. Nearby are several cafes and restaurants.

A beautiful building inside and out. It is a must visit when coming to Beziers. Free entry though an offering of a donation is asked for but not mandatory. The views from the bell tower are amazing but note there are 168 steps to get to here and they are very narrow so be aware. Free to go up to the top.

It Is a very beautiful church with astonishing Architecture and good descriptions of the meaning behind it inside. It is viewable from most of the city and adds to the Character nicely.
It is possible to go upstairs to the Tower of the Church which would have made our visit perfect but sadly this wasn't possible at the time of our Visit.
Anyways still a must if you visit Béziers.

Lovely Catholic cathedral in Carcassonne. Excellent stained glass windows and religious iconography. The only downside is that, as with the rest of Carcassonne, it can get very crowded with tourists and guided tours. If at all possible try to visit early in the day before the crowds get there.

So happy that they make all of the Cathedral (including the tower and cloisters) open to the public at no charge. The staff in the information booth are very nice and did their best to answer our questions. The view from the tower balcony is wonderful, in all directions. In such a small city, the altar and stained glass were exceptional. A "must see" sight in Béziers. We're going back on Sunday to hear the 17th century organ.
Les 9 Écluses de Fonseranes is a popular tourist destination that features a series of canal locks consisting of 9 flights. Visitors can witness the fascinating operation of the locks and enjoy stunning views of Beziers. The location also boasts an interactive cinema and restaurant at its visitor center. While there may be little shade, it offers an interesting experience for children with great toilets and a store available on site. A short walk away lies a water bridge, similar to those in photos.
Wonderful place to visit, kept very clean. You can picnic and there are boat rides and the little train comes too. Restaurant/bar at the top of the hill.
(7 of the 9 original locks remain functional).

Somewhere along the canal there's a boat rental for amateurs which leads to an entertaining amount of struggling newbies. Not much to do otherwise except getting ripped off by the only restaurant there.

A beautiful walk along the canal du midi leads you to the locks. There is a great cafe which you can watch the boats going through the locks and enjoy a delicious glass of wine! The tourist train leaves from here and for €8 it’s well worth the trip as it weaves through the streets of Béziers.

Was actually sailing the boat and it is really cool to go down it.
The lock keepers guided us through it as it was our first time going through several locks at a time.
If you are on foot it might be a little less entertaining but it is still worth seeing.

Nice locks, the best thing was the tourist train into Béziers. You can easily access and park here, then take the tourist train into the center of the city. Béziers is busy and brutal to drive into for a visit, using the tourist train from here made it easy to also see the centre of town

We took our Dutch barge through on our own with no other boats and what an experience ! After coming down the mighty Rhône…and through the Étang in quite windy weather, this was absolutely the highlight of the journey. It was amazing. Lauren the lock keeper was so helpful with information. All in all it was an unforgettable moment to pass through these locks of historical engineering built by men and women hundreds of years ago. Allows boats to be raised 21.5m (71ft) over a distance of 300m (980ft).

Great place to visit and see how the locks work and great views of Béziers. Amazing to see how the same method is still being used today. Well worth the visit. Gorges de la Fou is a family-friendly destination where visitors can enjoy a small excursion with provided hard hats for safety. The canyon offers a cool and refreshing experience, so bringing a jacket is advisable. It's an opportunity to test your stamina while walking through nature and admiring the marked fauna with descriptions. Additionally, there are cafes and restaurants at the entrance/exit for refreshments.
A place where you can accidentally get wet. Also be careful with your power, as it is a good test of stamina. Great place for a walk “through” the nature, amazing view. Nice detail is that all types of fauna are marked and given a small description. There are also some cafes and restaurants just on the entrance/exit, so you can restore some energy if you wish. Good place to enjoy the nature with friends or family in a pleasant way.

The Les Halles de Narbonne food hall is a beautiful place to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses and patisseries. There's also a huge range of different home made cassoulets in glass jars and tins. It can be busy so be prepared to queue, but it's definitely worth it!
A massive food hall where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, patisserie, meat and seafood. There was also a huge range of different home made cassoulet in glass jars and tins. It doesnt look very appealing but you must try a cassoulet when in Narbonne or the surrounding areas, they are very yummy! We went Sunday morning at 10am and it was quite busy already. There was a parking area directly outside but we parked down the road a but where there was ample street parking. There were public toilets out the les halles.

I have visited Markets all over the world, and this one in Narbonne is as good as any I have found. In a historic Market building it has everything you might need from seafood to exotic spices and anything to fill your grocery basket. As well there are stalls where you can get a drink and lunch. It is at times crowded, and when we visited there were no COVID restriction in place or masks being worn.

Tourist. 1st time. Absolutely stunning market in an old historic building in downtown Narbonne.
We came with our French friends. They said this is a “very French” place to go.
Visit during the week when it is not as busy. You can barely walk during the weekends but well worth the visit.
You can buy anything here: food, drink, bar, gifts, soap, whole bean coffee, bread.
The vegetables are the biggest I have ever seen and smell so good. So many kinds of Mediterranean fish. Meat butcher shop.
So many olives and tapenade. Nuts.
We bought soap gift sets for 5 euros to take home.

Great traditional market with food stalls for veg, butchers, bakers, sausage makers, fishmongers, etc. In summer, the little sardines are caught right off the coast in Gruissan and sold right here! Also has little lunch spots with stools serving great local specialties, and a places with prepared food like roasted chickens or cassoulet that you can take home (or to your Airbnb!) Bring cash as most vendors prefer it

Bustling but great covered market that offers a wide variety of local products. It is a great place to see and sample some of the region's delicious food and wine. Halles centrales de Narbonne Boulevard docteur Ferroul, 1 Cr Mirabeau, 11100 Narbonne, France
The Palais-Musée des Archevêques, also known as the Palais Vieux, is a remarkable building that dates back to the 1200s. With Gothic additions and a tower that offers stunning views of the town, it is a true architectural gem. The complex boasts an array of museums and activities to explore. While the old palais may occasionally be closed, visitors can still enjoy the incredible donjon tower.
Lovely square leading up to the Narbonne cathdral. On a beautiful February Friday morning, we experienced a local fair.
Truffles was the theme with farm produced honey, sausages, cheese, wine filling up the stalls.
There was a band playing folk music.
The carnival atmosphere makes this square and town a must visit. I wish i had more time to discover the other attractions.

The entrance ticket allows you to go up to the keep, see the archbishops' palace and the cathedral treasure. It must be said that it is sporty, especially the climb to the dungeon (160 steps). The view from the top of the keep is pretty (you can see the sea), but otherwise the tour is quick.
The archbishops' palace houses collections of works of art, especially 16-18th century painting and earthenware, very beautiful with some big names. If you like baroque art, you will find what you are looking for here.
The cathedral treasury is quite a curious room, and there are some beautiful recently renovated tapestries.

The Saint-Just-et-Saint-Pasteur Cathedral in Narbonne, France was constructed between 1272 and 1340, but was never fully completed. It boasts a transept and a lofty choir that stands at 40 meters high. The cathedral is one of the tallest buildings in France and dominates Narbonne's old district.

This is one of the fascinating buildings, either incomplete (as in this case), or in ruins, that demonstrate, better than a completed edifice, the original plan of the builders. The Tourist Office of Narbonne is a great starting point for exploring the city, offering helpful staff who can provide visitors with maps and information in English. Conveniently located by the canal, it serves as a hub for travel tips and attractions. While the service is commendable, there's room for improvement in terms of providing more resources such as brochures and free access to toilets.
The office staff demonstrated exceptional friendliness and helpfulness during our visit. They went out of their way to assist us, providing valuable recommendations for local sightseeing spots in English and equipping us with a detailed map of the city in English, which greatly facilitated our exploration while we were there. The Tourist Office of Narbonne is conveniently located by the canal and boasts helpful staff who can assist visitors in English. While the service is commendable, there is a noticeable lack of information brochures available. It would be beneficial for the office to offer more resources for tourists to enhance their experience. Les Orgues d'Ille sur Tet is a natural wonder featuring tall pillars of white sandy rock sculpted by water erosion, creating a unique and enchanting landscape often referred to as "Fairy Chimneys." The site offers striking views and is an ideal spot for a leisurely walk. It is really nice to see.

Perfect for a little hike even if you are not superfit anymore, only about 1 mile up and 1 mile down or less. Beautiful spot in nature. Need to buy an entrance ticket at the parking site at the end of the road. Nearby are the most charming villages with medieval flair. Plan in a nice meal in one of them afterwards!

It's a beautiful site! You can take amazing photos there. I've brought my younger brother to visite (I've been there multiple times) and he loved as well! It's a quick visit, you can do this and then go sight see somewhere else! 😉

A beautiful place with excellent views. The guide pamphlet explains the causes and the history of this fascinating phenomenon.
You can expect to spend between one and two hours roaming around the rock formations and taking photos.

Great site: Stunning what beauty natural erosion processes can create! If you are around there a must-see. A bit hot in the summer (drink a bit beforehand or take a bottle of water if visiting between June and August), but just a short walk a little incline upwards from the parking lot. Very educational signs that explain the natural history, friendly staff.

Small but worth the visit! Just beautiful. Easy access, shouldn't be an issue if you have kids.

A beautiful natural site with extraordinary weather eroded cliffs and monoliths. About a twenty minute, easy walk from the parking area access to the site and about thirty minutes to view the area. A geologic buff might spend hours touring the site.

Great for a short trip. You have to buy tickets at the parking lot. The price is reasonable. The path to the entrance is then about 1km and varied. The rock formations are really worth seeing. Nature is often the most impressive architect.

It is said that the great architect Gaudi was inspired by this place, but in my eyes, it is just a naturally created sand tower.

My friend and I included a visit to Les Orgues on a 10 mile (16km) walk that we did recently starting and ending in Ille-sur-Tet, during the walk we could see Les Orgues from different aspects, it was most certainly the 'icing on the cake '

Visiting Les Orgues d’Ille-sur-Tet seems to take you back in time. Tall pillars of white sandy rock sculpted by an erosion phenomenon, they date back millions of years. You have to pay an entrance fee to enter the site (free under 10 years old, from there prices range from 3.50 euros to 5 euros). Parking is next to the ticket/shop.

Amazing place to visit, a must if you are in the area. €5 per person (October 2023) and we’ll worth it.
