Old Town House - Rethymno, Crete
Hotel
The house is really huge and the roof garden is lovely. It is located in the centre of the Old Town, very close to the beach. We recommend this place!

All in all it was a pleasure to be there. Warmly welcome, located in the middle of the town. 5m to the next beer tap 😜. In case you are looking for fresh air, silence and a scenic landscape - stay away! I liked it a lot, it was a nice accommodation.

Museums
The Archaeological Museum of Thebes offers a comprehensive exploration of the rich history of Thiva, known as ancient Thebes, which played a significant role in Greek civilization from the Bronze Age. The museum features well-curated exhibitions covering various periods including Mycenaean and Byzantine eras. Visitors appreciate the thoughtful layout that guides them through the mythological origins and historical ages. The museum also provides informative videos with tasteful illustrations.
You can make a historical journey of Greece periodically. Something different sculpture of Αθήνα. Interesting narration between myth and history. Especially oedipus.
Relatively well preserved sculpture and container.
Theofilos SHIN — Google review
This must surely be the most inclusive museum of Ancient Greece and not just because of the reputation of the Sacred Band. I was particularly thrilled to find very good exhibition about Mycenian and Byzantine periods. Layout is very thoughtful, starting from the myth and then through the ages. Unfortunately, we arrived 1h before closure so didn't have the time to ingest it all.
The explanatory videos have some really good and tasteful illustrations. I wish more museums were doing something like this. They are very helpful in imagining what the world may have looked liked at the time.
Robert Manson-Sawko — Google review
Fabulous museum with well-curated, modern displays that feature incredible artifacts with helpful, explanatory signage that gives a lot of context to the ancient history of the region. The site also includes a Frankish tower (upper floors not accessible) and an open-air, below-ground-level archaeological site that you can tour on suspended walkways beneath the museum.
Really one of the best designed and most impressive "small" museums I've ever visited. Allow at least an hour, maybe two if you're thorough.

One of the best laid out museum s we have visited... It is EXTENSIVE ..... Their snack bar was closed or we would have taken a break. Displays have English..... A truly great museum that should not be missed..... We were so pleased that we saw it.

A must visit. One of the better done museums in Greece. The line-up goes from prehistoric times all the way to the Ottoman period of this city. Any recommendation! They even have a cat!
Milica Stankovic — Google review
Super helpful and friendly staff. No problem of getting disability discount if your disability is in percent and you need caretaker. Really interesting, much faster to see everything than National museum of Athens. Honestly when I started to be tired, that was exactly the time when we came to the end, so just perfect! Near is a nice church and café. Display underground is a great experience too. Part with an ancient writings was just awesome for me and the most interesting. We were there around 12am
Anna Rohde — Google review
Wow!!! Thiva is the birth city of Hercules!!!But this historic fact isn't present anywhere in the city and has low presence in the museum. I think this should be something that Thiva should use for its touristic attraction. The museum displays a great excibition from the ancient greek era until byzantium times !!! Outstanding!!! When I visit such places I feel so overwhelmed!!! The staff of museum was very polite and helpful!! Thank you guys!!!!
Panagiota Papadima — Google review
Very very interesting Museum.A hidden gem not far from Athens. The guides and employees are very polite and helpful Worth a visit there and take your time as there is plenty of things to see and learn from the history of Thebes.Really one of the best museums in Greece .

The layout and flow of the museum is phenomenal. It starts from prehistoric times to the bronze age all the way through classical history and more recent history. There are MANY very interesting artifacts and they have a few historical ruins as well. This place is rich with history. Highly recommend

This is a very modern presentation of Theban history, from Neolithic times to recent modern history. The Mycenaean period is best presented with a multitude of very interesting artefacts.
Nikos Parastatidis — Google review
One of the best museums in Greece. Well organized exhibition, with great findings. The proper use of multimedia makes the exhibition even more educational and proper for children. If you pass by This u must visit it.
The Corinth Canal is a remarkable achievement of engineering spanning several centuries. Conceived by an Ancient Corinth ruler, started by Roman emperor Nero, and finished in the 19th century by the French, it's over 6km long and 23m wide with vertical sides towering over 90m above water. The canal played a significant role in elevating Piraeus' status as a prominent Mediterranean port.
I think it is one of the must-see locations on the way to Nafplio. The canal was built in late 1800s. However, as far as ı read, a landslides was occurred in the slopes of the canal. The Greek government decided to remove the debris and re-open the canal in 2021. however, we visited the canal in April 2022 and it was still closed to ship traffic.
Emre Kucukkirca — Google review
What a must-see engineering gem! Everybody should sail the Corinth Canal at least once in their lives!
G T — Google review
It is literally what you see in the photos, a four mile long canal with extremely high, steep sided sides but you can only marvel at how it was constructed in an era without the modern machinery of today. Well worth the visit.
Lindsay Walker — Google review
A masterpiece of man, with great vision
Minh Th?ng Phan — Google review
I think this is a must see. The canal is long and narrow with beautiful tall cliffs on either side. The water is a strikingly beautiful blue when the sun directly hits it. You can watch boats make their way through the canal. It is about an hour drive from Athens airport, but it is a cool way to see the Greek countryside. There is a bungee jump there called Zulu Bungee which I highly recommend. You can even go there and watch other people jump from the viewing area above. There is ample paking and a bridge that you. an also walk out on to see the canal better. Also there is a nicely maintained restroom across the street.
Deanna Farias — Google review
Fantastic feat of engineering. Beyond taking a couple of photos and admiring the excavation there's not much to do. But we'll worth a 15 minute stop.

The Corinth Canal is a man-made canal in Greece, that connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland, arguably making the peninsula an island. The canal was dug through the isthmus at sea level and has no locks. It is 6.4 kilometers (4 mi) in length and only 21.4 meters (70 ft) wide at its base, making it impassable for many modern ships. It is currently of little economic importance becoming mainly a tourist attraction.

Canal under constructionin1882.
It looks like this today.
Vlado ST — Google review
The canal was initially proposed in classical times and a failed effort was made to build it in the 1st century AD.[4] Construction recommenced in 1881 but was hampered by geological and financial problems that bankrupted the original builders. It was completed in 1893, but, due to the canal's narrowness, navigational problems, and aperiodic closures to repair landslides from its steep walls, it failed to attract the level of traffic expected by its operators.
SHAHAB UDDIN — Google review
Please do not make the mistake of going onto the abandoned train track as this is where Google Maps directions instructs. Views are breathtaking.
Andy Lima — Google review
The Corinth Canal is impressive. Despite the high price for crossing the canal, it is worth doing it, the memory stays for life.
Ben Reyna — Google review
This spot is not easy to get to, there are no proper road and have to drive through mud road. So be prepared if you want to get here. The view aren’t that magnificent as well. I would suggest taking a look at it from one of the bridges and passes the canal.
However if you would still come to this spot, I have attached some pictures that hopefully will help you find the entrance which is next to the petrol station - as you can see no proper road. Safe trip!
Ken Joo Yeap — Google review
For a 19th century canal, it is impressive.
But not quite my thing.
You can also do a bunging jumping from the bridge.
The area itself did not have much to do.
It is probably something you do because is near somewhere else you're visiting. We were going to Temple of Hera and this was on the way.
There were some suffering stray cats too, so a bit heartbreaking. Please bring something for the lil kitties if you visit.
Iva Reis — Google review
Pretty awesome Historic location to come for a quick visit if you’re ever near this areas. The views from the Bridge are pretty self explanatory.

A lovely attraction to visit when in Corinth. The water looks great and it’s a must to visit this when nearby.
There is a nearby shop/museum which can be visited to get more information on nearby attractions.
Joey R — Google review
Loved this boat ride down the canal. The bridge goes down into the water and the boats go over it and down the straight canal to the other end. Very relaxing and nice boat ride. You get to see both ends of the canal and then turn around and go back. There is a tribute to Nero who started the project at the one end on the Corinth side.

Ancient Corinth is a well-preserved archaeological site that offers a glimpse into the Roman city's history. The remains include temples, fountains, theaters, and ornate columns that stand as a testament to ancient Greek architectural skill. The Temple of Apollo is particularly picturesque with its fluted columns surrounded by wildflowers and mountain peaks in the background. Nearby attractions such as the Medieval Castle of Acrocorinth and Ancient Nemea offer additional historical exploration.
Don't miss this place when visiting the area! The beautiful ancient, witch was one of the more important ones from history, along with the amazing museum really teach you a lot about ancient Greece. It's absolutely amazing how the giant pillars and the statues managed to survive so long! Sadly, I was in a rush and only managed to visit the central area, where the museum is so I will definitely visit this place again!
ded moon — Google review
Such an amazing place to visit. Definitely worth a visit. A tour is beneficial as they have lots of history to share. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because the customer service is horrible. They were extremely rude to us and I think us being from the US didn't help.
Erica Seegrist — Google review
Incredible place of history. Easy to park and view. Go early to beat heat. See museum second to cool down. Incredible much is in tact. Recommended.

Compared to other sites in Athens, you will be able to enjoy these ruins without crowds or hurry. The backdrop of the surrounding hills is gorgeous and food, gelato, and tourist shopping is just outside the gate. Plenty of parking available.
Ai Bo — Google review
This is an amazing site rich in classic Greek history, especially the stories about the commerce, the development and the life including the open attitudes towards sexual relations. It is hard to imagine the sophisticated lifestyle that flourished when other civilizations were still in the stone age.
The museum is larger than it looks, and the site is large. Plan on a couple of hours. Note there is only one male and one female restroom so plan accordingly.
Rhicke Jennings — Google review
Well preserved archeological site with a museum on site. Many a great have walked these paths in ancient history and we get see some of the remnants.
The site is fairly well laid out and easy to navigate. There is a small museum on site where you can escape the sun in case it gets too hot.
There’s a lot to admire about this place.
It is a bit cut off so transportation without a car may have to be planned meticulously.
The views from the grounds are stunning especially on a clear sunny day.
And don’t forget to visit the Acropolis which is free and also nearby.
Legends l — Google review
The ruins are beautiful and there is a peaceful atmosphere. However the customer service is horrible. I wanted to take a picture of some friends standing infront of something. But this woman had to burst my eardrums with her whistle, saying that this is not allowed. While she could have just gone to me explaining the situation.
So beware of grumpy women with whistles behind you.
Ryan Edelenbos — Google review
Great site with well preserved ruins and pieces of archeological significance for a 10€ charge. The grounds are not too large to be overwhelming but there is enough to see to require 1-2 hours. We went in the evening and saw the sunset over the temples and columns which added to the experience. If you have interest in the biblical or historical roots of Greece, this is a must see.
Tyler Harris — Google review
Amazing, amazing site with such historical connections to big names in the Bible. Even if you aren’t religious, you are struck with the idea that such massive figures in our history were here. The buildings and intricate carvings (decoration) on the stone are in great shape.

Cannot say enough about this place. I enjoyed the museum and walking around on my own taking time to read almost every plaque. Next time I will pay for a tour though I’ve since learned the tours are excellent.

Absolutely Amazing ! If you are in the Athens are. its only a short 1 hour drive away, We hired a car from the hotel and arrived late morning (beat the heat) to see a gorgeous valley that has a castle like fortress overlooking the ruins . We self guided the site and took hundreds of photos of all the unbelievable artifacts but on hind site would definitely hire a guide for the a full historical experience , truly a must see.

Corinth is a site that is not over crowded and serves as a great look into Biblical history. Take your time to read the different historical information stations to learn what you are looking at. I highly recommend using a guide at this site to get all the insight from the area. It is absolutely breathtaking.

This is an excellent exhibit of ruins. They have an outdoor area with tons to see. And there are signs and a walking path to inform and direct. Moreover, they have an indoor museum which I found amazing. Many artifacts and informative signs.

Excellent museum and site. It is particularly of interest to students of the Book of Acts and the letters of Paul since he spent much time starting and building a congregation here. Interesting aspects of burial customs on display and explained.

One of the top Classical Greek archaeological sites in Greece. Large and diverse. It also has a small but interesting museum though not as spectacular as many others. Still worth visiting.
jeremy kalous — Google review
Nice historical place to see. The museum is also good and should be visited. Use the parking area before coming up the hill. There are more parking slots available near the entrance, but the exit is away from the entrance so the way is shorter using the first parking area.
Rene S. — Google review
Very few visitors (can be because of the 40+ °C temperatures). Very large and beautiful excavation site.
The only star deduction: not everything was allowed to be photographed in the museum...
Ramon Suter — Google review
A very beautiful historical place of birth and spread of Christianity. Happy to visit where the ancient Greeks read the letters of the apostles.
Oleksii H — Google review
Wonderful site! The ruins and the museum are both interesting, and the landscape around is impressive.
Benoît Larcher — Google review
Neat place to visit with a museum on site to give you a glimpse of history. Be aware, Ancient Corinth is actually quite small, in fact, a bit underwhelming. Beat the tour busses and opt for a private or small tour. Big busses make predictable stops at tout traps along the way. Not much to see in or around this spot but worth a visit to see where the Apostle Paul had influence.
Tieshia Moore — Google review
Nice place, but not that impressive after seeing much better ones around, especially in Athens. I believe the entrance fee is 8€, but you can see a lot without even getting in.
Dragutin Cividini — Google review
A wonderful day trip away from the crowded Athens. There are several sites in the area that you can visit but must have a car ,as without is quute challenging to visit.
Tibi N — Google review
Lots of ruins, many well-preserved structures, arguably better than the Athenian agora. Spend about 45 mins here in your visit to Corinth.
Acrocorinth is a historical site located at the foothills of Corinthian Acropolis. It offers evidence of various invasions throughout history and provides stunning views of the Corinthian and Saronic Gulfs. The ruins of the ancient city include the Temple of Apollo from the 6th century BC, Peirene Fountain, Agora where Paul's trial took place, and Bema.
Impressive castle, with a long, long history. Some more info at the archaeological site would be nice!
The car road leads to the first gate. Of course after that there is some walking involved, but the panorama from the tower is breathtaking. At the gate there is also a coffee shop.
Cornelia Dumitru — Google review
Worth the detour to visit this historical site that has great views. Didn't managed to explore much due to the drizzle but still enjoyed the short walk. It's quite a big site so do set aside more time to enjoy this free site. Remember to wear shoes with good grip as the cobblestone is slippery and even more so when it's wet from the rain. Not busy during April.
Wen Cong Lee — Google review
Free attraction in Greece! Beautiful views of mountains and the sea. Very accessible by car then a walk up to the top.
Not far from Corinth Acropolis by car.
There are enough remains/structures to give you a sense of what life was like here.
You can take a day trip to here if you are visiting Athens or surrounding areas.

Free to enter and really cool place to explore. Involves quite a bit of climbing but the views are amazing at the higher parts of the area. Visited in November 2022 and it closed at 3.30pm. I had to go back the next morning but it was worth it. The drive up took a while but wasn't too hard.

A beautiful hike that ascends above all! Breathtaking views, gorgeous gorgeous! Can almost drive to the gate, then you have to hike, it is worth it! There are views on every side. It is massive! I take one to two hours to see it all. And very hot take water.

Beautiful area and not crowded at all, some amazing views from top as well. It's free to enter and there is free parking just outside the castle.

Wear good shoes to walk around, the 360 view is amazing.

Excellent place with a big Castle and a marvellous view, although abandoned from State since there is no guard at all and, no ticket!!! There is a cafe house with excellent and very polite service and a very good quality of food. The Ministry of Culture or the one of Tourism should tackle this problem the soonest possible. I believe that they should have a ticket. CAUTION: the stones consisting the path through the gates are very very slippery and, therefore very dangerous.

Highest point in ancient corinth. Can drive a car small parking lot near the wall. From the parking lot it takes around 15-20 minutes to the top. Very very slippery and uphill. The view is nice overlooking the city. Worth to visit. No admission fee its free. Look not easy without a car. Parking lot is not big and there is a restaurant. The best way is using taxi service or walk.

Biggest castle of the Peloponnese, this place is huge! Make sure you have a few hours free to be able to enjoy the well-signposted sights in the castle, spanning over 3000 years of use, by many different cultures.
Stelios Zacharias — Google review
There's no toilet, and it's HUGE, so bring water with you, I was visiting in winter, but I still wish I had brought water and maybe an energy bar, even though I ate just before going up.
You can definitely spend hours here, and it is a decent exercise getting around.
I definitely loved the spring, just the thought of seeing this (like an animated version of how it would have looked) when it was beaming, with all the houses, people and animals...
You can still see the walls of the town houses, and some of the streets.
It's in no way wheelchair or friendly to someone who struggle with getting around, it's a climb, the stones are smooth from all the feet that has walked there.
I was a bit worried about sliding myself.
PS it's free.
Anne “Galemor” Nielsen — Google review
Beautiful area. Very little tourists. Was free when I went in mid July.
Wear sneakers. I wore flip flops (massive brain fart), and almost busted my behind due to how slippery the rocks are.
There are steep sections, so be careful and hold on to a hand rail or wall.
Alex Tsounis — Google review
Beautiful scenery around the fortress, but you need to get there by a car/bus and then the path is paved with cobblestone, which is slippery. I'd recommend going there with rugged shoes.

Impolitely behavior from the entrance crew, who did not allow us to on board on High Speed Aero 1, although we were justifying accompanied with our parents that necessary documents would be sent in a minute (as we were in the process from downloading them from our mobiles). It is really disappointed to see that the crew staff disregarded coast guard’s advice to permit us to on board on the vessel,as in a few minutes they would have in their hands the necessary documents. Concluding, today’s incident it was really an unprofessional behavior from your staff towards yours clientele and I would not recommend Hellenic Seaways for future trips.

Worst service ever. To start absolutely no indication on the location of “deck E8”, we almost missed the boat after a 25 minutes walk on the harbour…
In the boat they asked us more money for the tickets already bought online. They then separated us because the boat was “full” (not even 10% of the seats were occupied) although we were only 5 people. They tried to check our tickets 3/4 times always in an angry manner, taking the phone from our hands and almost shouting at us. Talking to customers like this is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE.
The boat itself is very comfortable for what it does but other than that, very bad customer experience.
I would definitely not recommend it.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre is a brand new hub for arts and culture in Athens that features the Greek National Opera, the National Library of Greece, and 210,000-meter Stavros Niarchos Park. The SNF has pledged to help fund all costs of operation for the first four years, so everyone can enjoy its impressive array of cultural attractions.
Definitely worth the time to visit the place. Beautiful architecture and for sure something that you won't see very often in Athens, due to the lack of big investments in new infrastructure. It's a nice place to go and spent some time, especially during the afternoon in the park and the view deck. Inside the building are located the national library and opera house.
Marios Natsis — Google review
This family-friendly destination could be better. The guide map is printed only in Greek. Parking and security personnel gave instructions only in Greek. We were confused when we entered the wrong line to the parking structure. We were confused about how to pay for parking. And we were confused about where to show our vaccination records before we could enter the lighthouse. Due to COVID-19, the library is closed to visitors who want to warm up and wait for the fountain display. The fountain display does not operate between 3 and 6pm. The fountain schedule should be posted where it would be easy for visitors to find. I didn't realize that it features different music at different times. We got there at 4:30 and waited for the 6:00 "show", which was only 1 song. Nevertheless, we enjoyed viewing the gardens, light sculptures, and fountain display. We would recommend offering more cultural activities. The parking was expensive for the limited activities that were available to the public in early December.

Always feeling a good vibe of nature in the park. But summer time and the heat makes it more difficult during the months of June, till the end of September. The afternoons are lovely and the view from the top, where the bar is, makes it even more special. Sunsets are beautiful from there too, watching the sun setting in the area of Peiraeus.
Worth a visit!!

Very nice complex with unique and thoughtful design. The library is wonderful and larger than expected. Many good food choices and exceptional gardens and exercise opportunities. Great place to bring kids. Make sure to visit the "light house" which is more a large observation deck. Check out the long distance binoculars for a great view of the Parthenon.

Amazing park with plenty of gardens and places to stroll. Perfect location to go with kids, to have a picnic or just to enjoy the nature at the park behind the main building. There is available a big parking garage where you can charge your vehicle if you want. In the main building there is the national opera, where you can enjoy plays, musicals and ballet. You can also use the amazingly big library or just use a space there to read anything in quite. There are plenty of options around for food and coffee. Must visited!

Great place to spend with family. If you are visiting Athens I believe it is a must destination with panoramic views of the city. Lots of activities for children and nice natural environment to walk around. We were sad that we could not visit during evening hours as we have heard that the light decorations are amazing.

Its always a beautiful idea to spend some time outdoors. So refreshing to be surrounded by nature, plenty of areas to walk, ride a bike or scooter. Designated running track and outdoor gym equipment to help keep you in shape.
Musical tiles to soothe the soul and mind.
Outdoor chess, fountains, it's all such a full body and mind experience.

I had the privilege of visiting the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center recently, and I'm still in awe of the experience. The architecture alone is a work of art, seamlessly blending modern design with a touch of classic elegance. As you approach, the massive white canopy seems to reach for the sky, creating a sense of grandeur that sets the tone for what lies ahead.
The center's commitment to the arts is evident from the moment you step inside. The spacious interior houses a multitude of cultural treasures, from art exhibitions that span various mediums to engaging performances that captivate your senses. The dedication to showcasing both local and international talent is commendable, providing a platform for artists to share their stories and perspectives.
One of the highlights for me was the lush park surrounding the center. The beautifully landscaped gardens offer a peaceful escape from the urban hustle and bustle. It's a perfect place to unwind, whether you're taking a leisurely stroll or simply sitting on a bench, soaking in the natural beauty.
The variety of events and activities cater to a wide range of interests. From classical music concerts that resonate through the open-air space to thought-provoking lectures that spark intellectual conversations, there's something for everyone. Families with children will appreciate the interactive workshops and performances tailored to young audiences, fostering a love for the arts from an early age.
The attention to detail extends to the amenities as well. The center boasts well-maintained facilities, clean restrooms, and courteous staff members who are eager to assist. Whether you're attending a large-scale event or simply exploring the grounds, you'll find the experience seamless and enjoyable.
In essence, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center is more than just a place—it's a celebration of creativity, culture, and community. It serves as a beacon that reminds us of the power of art to transcend boundaries and bring people together. If you're seeking inspiration, relaxation, or a memorable cultural outing, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to this extraordinary destination.

My Zen place in Athens, whether it is a visit to the library, the Greek National Opera, or hanging out with Music at the Agora.
The most fun is watching the dancing fountains at night after dinner, or a show.
Finally, the building itself is an iconic Rentzo Piano, and shows the modern architecture of Athens.

Flisvos Marina is a prominent marina located in the Athenian Riviera, known for being one of the largest in Greece with a capacity to accommodate over 300 vessels, including luxury yachts and boats. The surrounding area offers an array of restaurants, cafes, and bars that provide stunning views of the Saronic Gulf. Visitors can marvel at luxurious yachts while enjoying exotic cocktails on the waterfront.
Nice, clean area! Water is cristal clear and a lot of fish can be seen! We were there with the kids and it was a really nice experience! A lot green areas, where we could even find a wild tortoise. I do not have to say how excited the little girls were :).
I enjoyed the boats very much especially the Averof. Unfortunately we could not visit because of the Easter holidays, but i enjoy seeing them nevertheless.

Great Marina, close to central Athens and is filled with many motor yachts. It also has a nice promenade where you can walk along water with many restaurants and cafes and ice cream parlours.
There is also a naval museum nearby which has one of the warships that help grease during the world war and also a try room replicated from ancient Greece that helped the Greeks win the major naval battle of Salamis, through their cunning. Which was a major turning point in history.

Here is docked the Battleship Averof, the most historic warship of modern Greece, and a Ancient warship Trireme (an ancient Greek war galley with three banks of oars) real scale replica that was used to thrward the Persians in 480bc in the battle of Salamis.
Very neat and clean space. It has a nice promenade where you can walk along water with many restaurants and cafes.

Although a little pricey, it is a very nice upscale restaurant located right by the water with a 180 degree ocean view of Egina and other islands. I was also impressed by being given the opportunity to select the super fresh seafood from a fairly large selection. The Averof warship, now a majestic museum at Marina Flisvou in Athens, carries a rich legacy from the early 20th century. Here’s a brief historical outline:
1. Commission and Construction: Ordered by the Greek Navy in 1910, constructed in Italy, and commissioned in 1911.
2. Balkan Wars: Played a pivotal role in securing Greek naval supremacy with notable victories in 1912 and 1913.
• The naval Battle of Elli (December 16, 1912): The Greek Navy, under the command of Rear Admiral Pavlos Kountouriotis, engaged the Ottoman Navy at the entrance of the Dardanelles. The Greek flagship Averof significantly outmaneuvered the Ottoman fleet, securing a decisive victory that established Greek naval supremacy in the Aegean.
• The naval Battle of Lemnos (January 18, 1913): A subsequent encounter where the Greek Navy further asserted its dominance over the Ottoman Navy, solidifying control over the Aegean Sea.
3. World War I: Initially under a neutral Greece, it participated in naval operations with the Allies post-1917.
4. Greco-Turkish War: Active in 1919-1922, aiding in evacuating refugees and troops.
5. World War II: Utilized as a training vessel, later a floating barracks, and evaded Axis capture in 1941 by relocating to Souda Bay, Crete.
6. Post-War: Returned to Athens in 1944 and was decommissioned in 1952.
7. Museum Ship: Towed to Palaio Faliro in 1984 and now rests as a floating museum at Marina Flisvou, preserving its maritime legacy.
Following the historical trail, the Averof Museum presents a brilliant opportunity for families, especially young children, to delve into Greece’s glorious naval history. Here are the aspects that make it a delightful and educational venture:
1. Interactive Learning: The museum’s setup encourages children to interactively explore the ship, offering a lively glimpse into Greece’s naval traditions.
2. Educational Material: Various exhibits and information panels enrich the understanding of the ship’s adventures, significant naval battles, and sailor life.
3. Engaging Exhibits: Well-preserved compartments, artillery, and artifacts on board captivate the imagination, enhancing the learning experience.
4. Guided Tours: Insightful guided tours by knowledgeable personnel make the historical narrative engaging and easy to grasp for young minds.
5. Safe Environment: The museum ensures a safe and pleasant ambiance for family exploration.
6. Inspiration: A visit instills a sense of pride and respect for the valorous deeds of the Greek navy, igniting young minds about the values of bravery, duty, and patriotism.
The Averof Museum is not merely a recreational outing but a meaningful educational journey, rendering history accessible and thrilling for the younger generation, and offering a wholesome activity for the whole family.

Beautiful walkable marina. Lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from. Highly recommend if you have time.
A beautiful place, although it looks best from a distance and at night, when it is beautifully lit. While there, be sure to go up the mountain, taking a serpentine trail along the slope, and visit the monastery, light a candle and see Nectarios' tomb.

Move over, Temple of Aphaia, this church is beautiful! If you're fortunate enough to have found yourself on Aegina, a visit to this neo-byzantine church is a must. Unfortunately for me, the center of the church was completely covered in scaffolding but, the outside was sublime. Tip: sneak up the back of the church at sunset for incredible photos!

You can quickly reach the Monastery by bus. Wonderful peace, the smell of flowers and trees.
The architectural work of art is the church itself.
It is pleasant and inspiring to walk to the Monastery with a beautiful view of the surroundings. There is also a museum dedicated to the work of Saint Nektarios.
The spiritual rapture that overwhelms you in this holy place does not need to be highlighted.
Across the street from the building is a small restaurant where you can have a drink or something to eat.
Warm recommendations for this trip or pilgrimage.

Absolutely wonderful from every point of view. The place is gorgeous, situated in the middle of the island of Aegina, very quiet, peaceful and welcoming. The nuns and the helping people from there are extremely kind and they will help you with everything. The main big church has the entire holy body of Saint Nektarios and the upper little church has the head of Saint Nektarios. It is a great Saint who helps everyone and I can relate. I hope I will be back soon, it’s definitely worth every minute.❤️

Pretty interesting church - the architecture and the colour scheme makes it stand out from its surroundings. It has quite a well decorated interior and is very well maintained. There were some scaffolding in the church when we went, but it doesn’t really make much difference to our visit.
This place is accessible by the A1 bus that runs from the port of Aegina (though the frequency may be very limited - so plan your time properly if you intend to catch it!). A place that is worth visiting if you are already planning to visit the island, but otherwise wouldn’t really recommend coming to Aegina just for this attraction.

The ruined Doric temple, constructed around 5th-century BC, was dedicated to the Ancient goddess Aphaia. The remarkably preserved remains of this temple are located on a hill covered in pine trees providing an extensive view of the Saronic Gulf. The structure was built in honor of a local deity from a pre-Hellenic era and featured magnificent sculptures depicting the Trojan War on its pediments.
I never get tired of visiting the Temple of Aphaia, one of Aegina island's must see unique attraction that is situated on a hill ... with beautiful views & lots of pine trees ... about 15 km from the islands capital. 👍😊
Since prehistoric times ( 1300 B.C.) it's been a place of worship ... a sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Aphaia.😍
Next to the temple there is a small archeological museum, the Museum of Aphaia, where parts of the temple are on display. Across from the Temple you will see a simple cafeteria where I've enjoyed some beverages ... that was nice: especially if you are visiting on a hot summer day!

Must visit. Not very crowded, it’s a very well preserved temple, one of the most important ones in this part of Greece too. They had both the Parthenon and Sounion in sight so those three temples used to communicate with each other visually, even though they are dozens of km from each other!
Also - visit the cafe for a coffee - they serve a surprisingly good one and the view is stunning!

This monument is well preserved and maintained. It’s hard to believe that this temple was from 500 BC.
Most of its pillars, structures, inner and outer features are still standing.
There’s a shop and cafe close to archeological site you can buy drinks, light finger foods and souvenirs there.
The shopping mini complex also has a restroom open to everyone.
Parking here is by the side of the road so it is limited.

This temple is pretty well preserved on the Greek island of Aegina. Or at least as much as anything can be at 2000+ years old. The temple is at the top of a mountain, surrounded by a fence and normally cost 6 eu to enter, but ous was already covered. Anyway you can see some real dedication with people quarrying these enormous stones and then of course dragging them up to the top of the highest mountain around. Anyway it's a beautiful site.

Lake Vouliagmeni, located in the Athenian Riviera, is a scenic natural wonder with thermal mineral water. It is part of the National NATURA 2000 list and home to unique organisms like the Garra Rufa fish known for skin exfoliation. The lake's crystal-clear waters are fed by underground hot springs, offering a constant temperature year-round. Visitors can swim and enjoy the beautiful surrounding scenery.
AMAZING! An absolute must! If you want to escape the city & find the beaches too busy, this is the place for you! Beautiful, natural salt water lake with fish that nibble your dead skin cells! Lake is shallow & deep so great for everyone.
We paid €50 for a double sun lounger bed for the whole day. You can buy singles & there's tables & chairs too. There are toilets, changing rooms & they serve food & beverages.
There are life guards too so you can feel safe.

Wow! do not miss. Of all the attractions outside the center of Athens, this is a must-do attraction, unequivocally. If you come in warm months, don't give up. An amazing lake, clear and with all the best facilities and service.
It is a lake with water at a fairly constant temperature. There are sunbeds, tables and chairs and even some individual double beds on the waterfront (you have to book them in advance). There are small fish in the water that eat the dry skin. At first it tickles like crazy, but you get used to it pretty quickly.
There is enough space for everyone and you don't have to rush and run early in the morning.
The recommended and discounted way to get to the place from the center of Athens is by metro red line and get off at the last stop - Elliniko
From there take a taxi or Uber at a cost of about 12-14 euros and you are there. Don't wait for line 122, it never comes.
In any case, there is a restaurant and a bar where you can order food for a sunbed. The toilets are very clean and there are even private and clean showers, take your clothes and shower there!
Enjoy!

The good - this 2000 year old lake is naturally breathtaking. The natural "fish pedicure" is novel and the water is lovely and warm to swim in.
The not so good - it's a shame that natural beauty like this has been monopolised to the extreme. The food and drink is pricey and lacklustre. The waiting staff ask you to tip them for every drink or meal you purchase.
The bad - there were building works taking place literally right next to many sunbathers that meant you had the loud noise and smell/particles of cutting metal and concrete whilst you're trying to relax. We paid nearly 100 euros for basic entry, a few drinks and snacks so it felt very disappointing - quite a few people left because of it.
We also waiting 45 minutes for a bottle of water that we had to remind the staff 3 times for....

The most exciting thing about this place was the “Dr. fish.” I have never experienced them in the “wild“ before. If you sit on the stairs leading into the water, dozens of not scores of these fish will exfoliate your feet. The lake itself is kind of just a big swimming pool. All the activity takes place at the beach chair end of the lake. Do yourself a favor and pay a little extra to get a cabana or reserve the private area. The staff really isn’t friendly at all. All of them seem to treat the guests as a commodity that had to be dealt with not as a guest that should be treated with kindness and generosity. They did not treat you as though they valued you. This was my experience with all of them and I engaged with at least eight staff members. They were at best neutral and at worst rigid.

A wonderful day out from Athens, we took an Uber which cost around 20 euros. 15 euros entry. First come first serve with the sun beds but plenty available during the week (we went on a Friday). The staff were attentive and the food and drinks were delicious. I couldn’t recommend this place more- it was so relaxing. I saw another review that kids were asked to be quiet and this may be part of the reason why it was so enjoyable

Wow, what a place. As soon as you get there, you can’t help but be blown away by the location. We booked in advance as it does get busy, we went on a Friday in June and it wasn’t too bad. We hired a double bed with curtains and was perfect to keep in the shade. The water was amazing ans the fish nibbling at your feet was a bit strange to start with but you get used to it. The food was great and the cold beers were tasty. Staff were very helpful and offered waiter service to our bed. A great place you can spend the day at, we went the day we were leaving as it’s close to the airport and they had good showers so we could get ready to leave straight from there. Fantastic place and a must visit.

The water in early May’s still chilly. Students can have reduced tickets, and I wouldn’t suggest to go on weekends if you can have the option… Am curious about their food, would like to come back and try.

The lake really makes you fall in love at first sight.
The standard price is 16€ per person (parking included), but since we were there on a public holiday, we paid 19€ per person. The price includes unlimited access to the lake beach area and a sun lounger. Opening hours from 8:00-18:00.
On site it is possible to buy a swimsuit, towel, glasses, etc.
On the territory of the lake there is also a SPA and a restaurant.
After swimming in salt water, you have the opportunity to take a shower! And the water temperature in the lake itself is 22-29 degrees all year round.
A small but very pleasant surprise was the Garra Rufa fish, who happily “worked” on the beauty of our legs 😅 and this is also included in the price!

Interesting place to visit when in Athens. It’s a close public bus ride away and you pass by many of Athens public beaches.
You have to pay to enter, but it’s worth it. There are thousands of carp in the lake that will try and eat dead skin off your feet.
There is food service at the beach chairs and a nice restaurant on site.

Beautiful brackish-water lake with constant temperature year round. The lake has small fish on the outskirts that can give you a pedicure but if you’re more in the lake there’s no fish. The water is beneficial for the skin and the body. Definitely a relaxing place. Try to go early to enjoy. The only problem is food and drink is overpriced there.

Great place to visit. Water was about 21 C in December.
*Note: if you are taking the bus there, make sure to buy a ticket beforehand, since there is no kiosk in Lake Vouliagmeni.

Incredible place! 14€ entrance for students and that was definitely well worth it. So beautiful, very kind and professional staff, SUPER fresh and also so nice with the fish spa haha! The 2h fish spa I got made the 14€ even more worth it👍🏼

Lovely place for a day of relaxation, with a nice swim, sun soaking and quick bites from the bar - fair warning, it can get quite busy despite the tickets for entry, especially after the long bus and metro rides from city centre Athens.
The beach is right across the road as well, definitely worth wandering over!

Lovely place with friendly staff and a beautiful lake.
Food and drinks were tasty and the prices didn't seem too ridiculous (for a British person!).
Everything was also served in lovely biodegradable packaging so bonus marks for that!
The wait staff were attentive and friendly. The facilities were clean and modern and (if the signage is to be believed) ecologically conscious. The lake was pristine and well looked after.

Once upon a time natural places like these were accessible to everyone regardless of their financial situation but not anymore... You will need to pay 17 euros per person to get in regardless of the time of day. Please do Greece a favor and do not support places like these. If the entry was a few euros say 1,2, or 3 it would be ok but this place is strictly focused on maximizing profits.

Paralia Aponisos is a picturesque pebble beach located in a small cove, offering sheltered swimming and the option to rent loungers. It is part of an exciting day trip itinerary that includes stops at three stunning locations in the Saronic Gulf. Visitors can explore Agistri Island's charming alleyways, relax on its pristine beaches, and immerse themselves in its natural beauty.
What can I say.. This place has everything. Perfect service, variety of beaches depending on what you like(sand, rocks, deep, shallow). This was definitely my favorite beach/place on the island, and I could easily go there every day if I had more time. 10 euro for 2 regular sunbeds and umbrella, plus 2.5 euro if you wish for wooden sunbeds for each one. On the umbrella you will find a black button so you can call the waiter/tress when you are ready to order. This place is beautiful!!!!!

Beautiful beach.
You don't need to cross the bridge in order to enjoy the beautiful water.
Be aware that the sand is rocky and Not sutible for barefoot.
Lots of urchin!

A very pretty beach with crystal clear water. There is a private beach side, cost of entry is 5€ which includes a sunbed. The customer service is very friendly and quick with reasonable prices. There is also a free area where you can lay down towels and rest under tree shades.

We cycled to this secluded beach from the main pier... What an enchanting ride just to arrive to this piece of heaven... The peacocks and the lush vegetation perfectly compliment the tranquil settings gently washed by the turquoise, pool-like pristine waters.

Great place! Easy to go in the water and enjoy. Service of food is not top notch but it’s nice to drink something cold in the shade. Very recommended beach! To arrive there is only one bus every hour so make sure to check it out if you need public transportation (2euro per ride)

Onw of the best beaches on the island. Although it is a private part - with 5eur entrance, you get access to their 3 beaches, bed, umbrella, which is pretty fine. It also has mini restaurant, and service so it is really good. I recommend it for a whole day relaxation, and there are sightseeings nearby...

One of the most, if not the most, beautiful beaches on Agistri. A hidden gem, and one of the farthest from the port, the crystal clear waters, and the soft sand make it an absolute must to visit. You can enjoy this beach for free, or you can opt to pay 5 euros for a sunbed and wonderful and friendly services of all sorts of amenities (for extra fees).

Heaven!!!! We took a bus from Skala, cost 2 euro/person. The earliest schedule start from 10:15 and bust stop is in front of a church. The entrance of the beach cost 5 euro/person and you can seat anywhere without paying extra unless it's the front row, you have to pay extra 10 euro.

This is one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve been to in Greece. The beach is sheltered by the bay on one side and the water is crystal clear! The other side has a magnificent view. The bar service is super prompt, staff are really friendly and it only costs €5 for a sunbed and umbrella for the entire day!
Evelina Velkova — Google review
This is the best beach on this island. Dont worry about the bad comments. You can take the bus from Skala every quarter past and arrive in 15 minutes. It is only 2€. if you try to get on at milos, the bus wont take you if it is too crowded. Entrance is 5€ per person. There are lots of sunbeds. We came at 3 on sunday and had no difficulty in finding one. Seashoes are good idea. But there arent many urchins.

Archaeological Museum of the Asclepieion of Epidaurus
The Archaeological Museum of the Asclepieion of Epidaurus is a small museum located inside a splendid Venetian building. It showcases the social development of Argolis, from ancient hunter-gatherers to more recent times. The museum houses findings from the surrounding sites, including the spectacular ruins of an enormous theater that is still in use today. This marvel of ancient engineering can hold up to 14,000 people and is renowned for its almost perfect acoustics.
Very small but worth checking out to make the 12€ ticket to Epidavros worth it.
Amazing stones with scriptures and beautiful statues.
Nico B. — Google review
Very small museum with little/confusing information. The first room is probably the most interesting where the ancient medical tools are displayed, along with giant stone tablets on health care during that time.

A very compact but capacious museum. It is highly advisable to be accompanied by a guide, because without a detailed history of Stokessey behind this place and these exhibits, it is simply impossible to understand the significance and grandeur of this place.

Epidaurus is an ancient ancient sanatorium and sanctuary of the ancient god Asclepius (Roman Aesculapius). It is known for its open-air theater with outstanding acoustics, the largest in Greece. The museum is small and houses the findings of the surrounding sites.

The museum is realy small and highly neglected. It's collection has been plundered from the national museum in Athens leaving mostly replicas behind. Its exhibition is very old fashioned and a bit confusing. The museum collection has some great building parts from the roofs of the ancient temples of the area that are really impressive.
But although the museum has its problems the archaeological site is one of the top sites in Greece. The ancient theatre is huge and well preserved (athens theater festival is hosted every summer there). And the remains of the buildings and the temples are really interesting and nicely presented.

Entrance 12€ and 6€ reduced ticket. Under 18 and eu students for free

a museum is always boring, but this one relates directly to the whole complex
ILOVEALGARVE — Google review
Museum has a really impressive collection. I would have preferred if the building was larger and able to take more visitors without making crowd, however the collection is truly impressive
The amphitheater at the Asclepieion of Epidaurus, constructed in 340 BCE and made from limestone, is one of the best-preserved Classical Greek structures still standing. It boasts exceptional acoustics; even a dropped coin in its centre can be heard from the highest seat. The theatre accommodates up to 14,000 individuals and features restored Corinthian pilasters flanking its entrance.
This is definitely worth the drive from Athens. In fact, the drive was one of the highlights. The scenery along the way is beautiful. The theater itself is impressive and so are the surrounding ruins. You can see that there have been attempts to reconstruct some of the buildings but it doesn't look like any progress has been made in some time.

Incredible site. Larger in size than Ancient Mycenae, and the restored theater is fabulous. Stroll the full grounds to see layers of history. Good signage with descriptions in both Greek and English. The small Museum is also worth a look. They have the only (?) fully preserved capital of a pillar on display there.
Andy Shaw — Google review
Fantastic and so well-preserved. If you are able, climb to the top and sit in the shade of the trees. It is cool, quiet (though this was in late May, not sure how it would be in high season) and you really get to experience how fantastic the acoustics are, as you can hear so much of what is said at the bottom. Museum and ruins are worth a visit too; on the same site and included in ticket price.
Lynn Trillo — Google review
It is difficult to believe such a well designed was built in the 4th century BC. The sound quality is amazing, so easy to hear from the top. This is a treasure.
The museum is not really worth the time. The hospital is also a site that needs guidance to paint the picture. If you are short on time, head to the amphitheatre.
Rhicke Jennings — Google review
It has natural fantastic acoustics. If you come in a group, split in two. One satying in orchestra ring at the bottom an other half i a top row to feel it. And bear in mind how long ago it was built.
Tomek Ikea — Google review
It is a marvel of ancient engineering and artistic achievement. With its impeccable acoustics and stunning architecture, it offers an unparalleled theatrical experience that transports visitors back in time. Surrounded by lush greenery and steeped in history, this magnificent amphitheater is not only a testament to the ingenuity of the ancient Greeks but also a source of inspiration and awe for all who have the privilege of witnessing its splendor. A visit to this historic site promises to be an unforgettable journey into the heart of classical Greece, where the arts flourished and the spirit of innovation thrived.

What a great view. This place is amazing. Can't believe over 2400 years old. Take time to walk up and admire the view from atop. The acoustics are so good. One can stand at center and be heard from the last row.

Pretty surprising this place is still being used today. Especially since it was built in the 4th Century BC. The acoustics are amazing and Tara spoke in a normal tone of voice and I could hear her on the top row. There's also a pretty good museum on site.
Rick Adkins — Google review
Initially lots of antique rocks, but when you visit it you stay speechless, because it's huge and the way it's built gives very good acoustic even to the highest row of the amphitheatre. There's good infrastructure for parking and good tables with information.

The stadium was built over 2400 years ago, but it is very well maintained. I sit at the top of the stadium and can hear people talking and laughing around the keystone and inside the circle. Try clapping your hands as you walk around different parts of the circle. The sound effect is amazing.

The acoustics are excellent. This is one of the few remaining ancient amphitheaters in existence and probably the best preserved.
If you are lucky and get to watch a performance there, you will feel the magical atmosphere, as you make the time travel thousands of years ago.
A must see in this area
From Athens is a 2 hour drive, my recommendation is after this experience to go to Nafplio, it’s a 45 minute drive from there.
It’s enchanting, worth staying one or two days there also.

Fascinating ancient amphitheater that has the best acoustics in the world which are still not fully understood - limestone, channels in seating, positioning in the hillside, other contributing factors… plus the site still hosts live theater & music every summer! It’s fun to try it out yourself; stand in the center of the stage and whisper a message- it will be heard clearly at the top row. Added bonus is the small but interesting museum with artifacts found on the site including a World Heritage site of ancient medicine.

The theatre as an archaeological site is definitely worth the traveler’s attention. A magnificent piece of architecture and acoustics still holds performances in the summer. The museum is small but you can get all the information needed to understand the function of the site as a whole.
Apart from the theatre there was a complex with various buildings, including temples and sanctuaries, dorms, baths, a stadium and of course the temple of Asclepius where people received treatment through the process of enkoimesis.
You can also enjoy the nature around the site with all its peace and tranquility.
There is a museum shop and a cafe as well.

We came here just for the theatre but had a fantastic time with the museum and site of the sanctuary of Asclepius too. The theatre's acoustic is remarkable and as excellent as everyone says. It's an experience unlike any other. The museum is small, but packed with interesting items for the history of medicine and close views of some architectural sculpture. The site of the sanctuary of Asclepius has some great way finding signage. The billboards for the individual buildings are not very well designed for non-experts, but the chance to wander through some ancient ruins was excellent. We were charged 12 euros for the whole visit, which is pricier than other local sites but well worth it in my opinion.

Like any Greek theater, this place is magnificent. This is of course my first visit to Greece and this stopover was worth it. Despite the large number of tourists visiting this place, entry is smooth. No more than 5 minutes to get the entrance ticket (it's in October so that's understandable). In 1h30, you can visit the theater and the archaeological site. It's truly magnificent, you go back in time in the blink of an eye. If you go to Greece, take a trip to Epidavros, a calm and quiet town, especially the ancient town.
The Temple of Poseidon, a cultural monument built in the 5th century BCE and located at Cape Sounion, offers stunning views of the sea. The temple was constructed from marble sourced nearby and boasts gleaming white Doric-style columns. Sailors approaching this region could spot the temple's white façade from afar, indicating that they were almost home.
An absolute beautiful site. The drive is gorgeous. We visited at sunset and it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. There is a yummy little restaurant I Def recommend eating at. If you have the chance definitely go see.
Erica Seegrist — Google review
The Temple has a stunning view, and apart from the hugely significant historic value, there is very little too the site. There is also the €10 entrance fee, which i would not describe as value for money. There is a cafe at the site which is friendly and serves food and drinks. But nothing else within walking distance (walking is on main road anyway). I visited the Temple of Poseidon in the morning (apparently the experience is much better at sunset for the views).

The views at sunset are absolutely incredible. The place is not large, maybe a 30 minute leisurely stroll around it for some photos, but it is truly a great sight.
The restaurant nearby would be a nice place to relax and eat, however it closes around when the temple does so you need to be there earlier (something our tour guide did not include).

Beautiful site! Listen to the waves crash into the rocks as you explore. No better location for a temple to the god of the seas! Can get a little crowded but the place is big enough to spread out. Make sure to wander all around, not just at the temple, there's lots to see and hear. Restaurant and gift shop are also right on sight.

Awesome place to check out. Make sure to take the scenic route down. If you do not have a car I would recommend a local guide, Instead of a shuttle bus. We booked one through air bnb and it was great!
Also, a heads up, it's $10 to get it but there is also a spot that you can get a great view and pics without having to pay, if you don't feel the need to see it up close. That's where these pics were from.

Stunning, a little busy but we went in October and it was possible to get photos without dozens of people in the foreground.

The trip from Athens to the temple is about an hour and a half car ride. The trip itself is on winding, beautiful, sea side roads. So, the trip itself is lovely. The temple of Poseidon is not as popular as the Acropolis, so you will basically have it to yourself. The views from the top of the hill are stunning. It’s worth the drive to see the view and to get photos that you’ll never forget.

Temple was amazing the went to was rubbish would sold that. Bus tour was no good. Because of protests we had to catch a train and then walk 5ks to catch the bus at the apocalypse it were basically having to run everywhere and then was told to hurry up because we're late. And on the evening tour we only had an hour and 20 minutes at the site so not enough time to see anything
They made it sound like you went too two adventures, but it was only one we had to pay again when we got there be careful of the fine print and then the bus was late getting back and we missed our dinner reservation because of traffic which they should have allowed for was told to hurry up and start running by the Young tour guide and I'm a man In my 50s I asked about a toilet was you told I should have gone before I got there! how rude and on the audio tour she questioned us on the way home like a bunch of five-year-olds my advice is make your own way there and you'll love it.

We visited the Temple just before sunset so that we could watch the sun go down over the Agean and islands. This was a truly magical experience with the sky turning from colour to colour and becoming ever more beautiful as the sun descended. The temple itself is a wonder to see, both on a approach and when close up. It gets busy here but there is plenty of space to spread out on the cliff side with quite a few benches to be found for a good view of the sunset. It is obvious why the ancients decided to build here - it's one of those places you'll never forget.
Do yourself a favour and book a taxi excursion which are very affordable and similarly priced to the coach tours. We did and were grateful as we drove away whilst everyone else was queuing for coaches.

We went to visit the beaches outside the ruins after our visit.

One of the most beautiful places to enjoy a sunset in Greece, if not the whole of Europe!
The site closes permanently for the day right after the sunset, last possible entry being around 30 minutes before the sun sets itself.
Coming in march, all the flowers around were blooming and all the colors were adding a lot to the beauty of the place.
Although not perfectly preserved the Temple of Poseidon is really beautiful even in the state it is in.
Keep in mind that the sunset here draws a lot of tourists, including busses and private tours, so at times it can get a little busy, still not crowded and manageable.
There are on site free toilets and a restaurant with a souvenir shop, the prices being a bit high considering the touristic location.
Definitely a must see while around the Athens area!

Fascinating history and a beautiful temple. The surrounding coastal region is gorgeous. I recommend visiting right before sunset so you can watch the sun go down just beyond the islands.
Flanked by lush greenery, this quaint beach features a small sandy beach & clear turquoise waters.
It's a lovely place. The water is perfectly clear and while snorkelling you can observe many different fishes. There's a lot of natural shade from the trees - it's definitely the most beautiful beach on Poros. Shower, changing room, clean toilets: Best facilities we've had at a beach.
But it's crowded: We were there in June and had to be there early (before 11am) to get the last free set of sunbeds - price was 12€ per set which is normal on Poros. There's not much space to sit without one, so in the end you will probably have to pay to use this beach. Service staff is friendly, although we didn't eat or drink something.

Nice little beach with catch name. The waters look nice from above, but when you get in, you'll realize they are pretty muddy. OK for 1 time but it wouldn't be my favorite beach. The beach bar offer some sunbeds but at full season it's very very crowded.

No wonder it's crowded in the summer, there were others enjoing a little picnic on the same day, such a quiet lovely place with crystal clear waters, looking forward to visiting again in the summer!

It is a petite cute beach that is excellent for quiet relaxing time. The bay is surrounded by deep vegetation which ensured its privacy. That is how the name came. It is very popular with couples or even people who prefers quiet calm environment. The water is sea green, clear. The sand is a little red to brown but sandy. The bay water is also calm enough, making it a perfect place for holidays and romantic outings. A narrow road surrounds the bay, but there is not much traffic in it. The bay has shower and drinking facilities.

One of the most idyllic beaches in Poros. You can get coffee and sunbeds and enjoy the view. Unfortunately on the day we visited the waves had brought some sort of industrial foam probably from the many yachts that roam on the waters. The sea did still look clean but we did not risk going in. It could have been a single event who knows but the locals told us that the sea is not that clean there due to its geographical location and the yacht season. Still a must see though.

A very good beach, if you're into beach bars that is. It's surrounded by beautiful nature and has plenty of shade even at noon. However the sunbeds occupy most of the space and there is little space for those who wish to sit on their own.

❤ The best little beach on Poros ❤
A short hop and jump from Poros town ( 3.3 km ) you'll find Love Bay. It's a small and very cosy beach that will help you unwind and calm down from the every day hustle and bustle.
Here you will find a few hundered sunbeds with umbrellas, a changing room, his and hers toilets and a fully stocked bar serving sandwiches, soft drinks, ice creams, beers and drinks . And did I mention the very friendly staff 👍👍👍
The bay itself deserves 5 stars. The water is bright green and blue and really fresh. And they play soothing music from the loudspeakers to help you relax🎶
Whats not to love about this place❤❤❤

The beach is pebbly so bring your sandals but the water is beautiful. There are many beds you can rent and drinks can be served to you sun bed. In front a Askeli restaurant is my favorite. Enjoy!

Water is abit cold today as is quite windy in September , we got a spot right on the rocky beach , is not sandy so is quite a feet massage to go thru that for a swim. we got our set of lounge seat from the nearby restaurant , Askeli . 12€ a day for the set of two. Price reasonable I reckon , and you can order drinks and snack to be serve. overall the staff are very friendly.
Beach is not full at all, so is kind of peaceful and we enjoyed it very much

Really beautiful beach 😍 the coast is sandy, seawater is clean.
This place isn’t crowded ( in the middle of June)
I was missing the bar and coffee shop or tavernas therefore only four stars for me…( this place is so far the supermarket and any possible of buying)
If you want you can get a sunbed as well.
Annamária — Google review
Went there on a mid-sunny May afternoon.
Definitely not overcrowded (maybe due to the time period) but a very nice and picturesque beach!
Sand was clean enough to lay down with your towel and the sea was also very clear and clean!
4 stars just because it lacks of amenities such as bars, umbrellas etc.

Very decent beach with good coffee and sunbeds. The sea is clean with a mixture of pebbles and sand. It is a good representation of an ordinary beach in Greece.

Lovely beach with great sunbeads and the best turquoise water around Poros. You can spend the whole day there without any problems.

Clear water, plenty of tavernas, beach clean and clear, water sports are good value. Small ferry leaves here several times a day for Poros Town and Monastery beach
The Bouboulina Museum, located in Spetses, offers a unique opportunity to delve into the personal history of the remarkable Greek female patriot and Admiral. Housed in her actual residence, which is now managed by her descendants, this museum provides an immersive experience. Visitors can expect a superlative tour led by a knowledgeable sixth-generation descendant who expertly brings Bouboulina's story to life.
The place is very well preserved, with lots of exhibits and the stuff has made an exceptional good job to guide the visitors taking all the appropriate covid precautions.
No photos are allowed inside the museum.

A fabulous museum with an amazing history I didn’t know anything about. The people working were kind and helpful, each room as numbered artifacts with information cards available in both English and Greece. It is a quick museum - you only need 30 minutes to an hour, but it’s well worth the visit.

A lovely place to visit on Spetses. Not massive but well laid out rooms as they were in the past. Gives you a genuine feel for Bouboulinas family home, very interesting.
The lady at the entrance deserves a mention for being very warm and welcoming. Also full of information.

Wonderful Museum, explaining the Greek independence uprise against the Ottomans , mainly the Armata Navy warfare who Admiral Bouboulina demonstrated her Naval Skills ..
Constantine D. Parnos — Google review
Planning my trip to Spetses was really hard. I had to put every little detail of things I wanted to do on the island on a list with 48 hours.
Bouboulina's Museum was top priority for me, growing up I heard all these stories about her and I wanted to see with my own eyes her ways and know her story.
The Museum and the family that runs it are doing exactly that. They are also doing it in a way that although you don't know the Lady, you feel connected to her. It's very easy for you to be drifted away with feelings that change rapidly, joy - sorrow - excitement..
A must see in Spetses.
I've put four stars which is something I rarely do.. There's a lot of things to be improved, I hope that with the proper guidance the Museum will take its place in one of the best museums in Greece!
Cheers! Thank you for the great experience!

Small Museum in the famous Bouboulinas actual house on Spetses. She was one of the hero’s of the 1821 battle of independence against the Ottomans . Her pistol And cannons from her boats with other information about her grand daughter who also fought in WW2 were on display . Highly unusual to read about a famous woman from 200 years ago . She spent her entire fortune on fighting and building a fleet of boats and she was until recently the only female Admiral . She managed to stop the enemy taking the then capital Nafplio .

For those interested in feeling as well as learning history, and in particular the personal history of a remarkable Greek female patriot and Admiral, this home and museum is a very worthwhile way to spend part of even a day trip to Spetses ("Spices"). The museum is actually the residence of descendants of the famous woman, one of whom is 6th generation and an expert who gives a superlative tour! I recommend a trip to the island partly to visit the museum!
David Silverman — Google review
There's a lot to see and explore. It is very well organized museum, with detailed explanations in English and Greek and all the exhibits are numbered. You also get the chance to learn the details of the architecture of the captain's houses.
For me, the best is the family members respect for their family relics. Bouboulina's memory is alive and inspiring.
Elizaveta Rodina — Google review
We visited the museum during our 3-days stay at Spetses. The museum is actually the house of Bouboulina and it is actually very well preserved. The guide was a very talkative and smart woman who gave the best tour guide I have ever attended. Her comments were on the spot and she even made some funny jokes. I am not sure whether the tour is given in English language too but email or go by and ask them if you are in Spetses. There was a small souvenir shop in the yard with some very nice pieces at very reasonable prices.
I definitely recommend to visit the museum, you will really learn a lot about an important part of modern Greek history.
Mariam Kachlek — Google review
A lovely small museum dedicated to Bouboulina set in the house she formerly lived in. I recommend visiting if in Spetses to learn of her history and role in the independence movement of Greece. A good hour should be sufficient to complete the tour. Just €6 entrance which goes towards restoration of the museum.

An excellent museum and tour with a very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. There are lots of incredible stories and information to be learned about Spetses and the Greek war of independence.
Bisti Beach is a serene and picturesque destination located near the wooded Bisti peninsula and Aghios Nikolaos church. Accessible by boat from Hydra, this tranquil pebble beach offers crystal clear waters and ample shade from trees. Visitors can rent sunbeds and enjoy snorkeling in the pristine waters. The beach also features a small bar serving refreshments and food.
Beautiful, not crowded, good snorkeling spot, worth going 30min over the hill to the southern beach for snorkeling as it is even more beautiful by the caves
Joseph Paw — Google review
A lovely pebble beach with plenty of shade from trees and sunbed sets where you can feel at one with nature. Pristine waters and nice for a little snorkel. Best to go on the 10.30 am boat there in peak season to secure a preferred spot.
Regular boat trips from Hydra Port, but you sort of have to make a day of it as the first return trip is at 4 pm - of note if you are time limited.
Reasonable snack bar (fruit or Greek salad, simple toast or sandwich and refreshments, and some beer/wine, but nothing fancy). You can also walk to a church with nice views.
Elektra Spathopoulos — Google review
By far the best beach on the island! €15 per person for the boat ride to get there and back, which you can catch from the main port. €15 for 2 sunbeds and umbrella - we stayed there all day! Quiet, clean, crystal clear waters and the forest backdrop. Take some snacks and enjoy!
YX M — Google review
very lovely beach under the pine trees! One sun bed costs 5 EUR (May, 22). There is a canteen where one can have toasts, greek salad, drinks and beer for reasonable price.
?zge Keskin — Google review
Wonderful quiet beach with crystal clear waters. Transport from the port or Hydra is available (15€, keep your tickets for the return trip included in the price) at specific times (departures every one hour or so from 11:00 to 14:00, return 16:00, 17:30, 18:30) via boat. The beach is a 15 minute ride away and you can rent sunbeds for 15€ a pair. If you are on the island and have a day to spare, definitely pay this beach a visit, it's definitely worth it. Note that due to its location and the tiny island opposite the beach, the wind is not particularly strong compared to other beaches along the coast, so you can enjoy the calm waters regardless of weather. If you visit, I recommend having a lot of water and some snacks with you as you might decide to stay as long as possible.
Angelos Chalaris (Chalarangelo) — Google review
You can go with the boat (12€ return). There are many sunbeds (5€/sunbed) and you can find one even in high season. There's a little canteen with drinks, sandwiches, salads. Lovely shade from the trees. Last boat leaves from the beach at 18:30.

Beautiful quiet beach 30 minutes by boat from Hydra.
The water is very clear and there is a place where you can get salads, sandwiches and drinks
Be sure to book your sunbeds in advance.

Really beautiful small rocky beach. Walk with cash!! There is a card machine but it is not guaranteed to work. Go early to get an umbrella in an ideal spot, but we didn't have a hard time getting an umbrella either way. There's a small cafeteria to get refreshments. Again WALK WITH CASH!

Beautiful and clean beach. Umbrellas and sunbeds (15 euro for two). A little bar with drinks and sth to eat - no problem with ordering.
The place is better in reality than in the opinions that I read here before going. I got my own food and drinks and it was unnecessary.
You can enjoy without any issues!
Small, sheltered sand-&-pebble beach with umbrellas, sun loungers & a snack bar.
Hydra is a beautiful island to be but not famous for its beaches. Having said that, this beach was amazing. You can get there by boat (30 minutes. check schedule at Hydra port, 18 euros round trip) Highly suggested to take the 1st boat to the beach (10:30am) to get a nice place to sit (1st row 20 euros for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella. You may also reserve sunbeds but no clue how)and have the chance to enjoy some serenity before crowds arrive. There is a canteen where you can get coffee, refreshments, drinks and snacks. Also, toilets available. Be patient with the service. They are polite if you are respectful of their workload.
Giota Sd. — Google review
In my opinion best beach in Hydra since it doesnt have slippery stones (the island and the beaches are full of them).
I would recommend taking the first or second boat (10.30 or 11.30) in order to be able to find available sunbeds. The boat costs 18 euros and the sunbeds 15 the pair.
There is a beach bar on the beach that offers food, drinks and coffee. The guy with the half shaved head is the best, very kind with the people and very professional.
On 05/08/2023 there was an unfortunate incident (although we got informed that this has happened before) that made us worried. It was the day that PETAR weather system was announced. Passengers tried but couldnt enter the boat of 18.30, beacause of the waves, so we ve waited on the rockery beach, for 1h for a small taxi boat to come and start taking passenges to move them to the boat that was waiting in the sea. As there were high and many waves the climb to the taxi boat and to the passengers' boat was not easy at all and of course risky. I guess that this could have been avoided by taking in mind the weather forecast...

The beach was great and the water clear. The people running the beach are pretty cool too. The ferry service- integrated into the beach experience costs 15€. Really not a bad price considering where they deliver you.
But here’s my issue- I walked there from Hydra Port (an arduous challenge in the midday sun) to the beach, therefore only needing a one way return ticket (7.50€). The outfit insisted I pay the full round trip fare- that I found to be not so cool...

Great beach - very clean and gorgeous snack/drink area - simple menu of salads and sandwiches - some toasted - great frappe coffees and reasonable prices
no duff duff music and lots of sunbeds well spread out across the beach. $15 for 2 beds and umbrella. pebbles to enter the water but once in it is Devine. Mystery of booking sunbeds - we called the phone no advertised on the transfer boat - yes they said to front row beds - when we arrived there’s no booking - it’s still a mystery how to reserve beds but plenty there and enjoyed a very relaxing day - the ferry leaves town harbour in front of the clock tower - €18 pp return - it gets very busy so arrive early if you want a seat - the journey is great hugging the coast line - enjoy

Such a wonderful secure pebble beach. Small but nice beach bar with all amenities. The people who run it are also very nice. Full of yachts during the summer. Fantastic crystal clear and calm waters to swim. One of favorite destinations when yachting.

one of the best beaches and most memorable experiences i've had in Hydra. it's the farthest beach by boat but well worth the ride. secluded, all covered in rocks small at the shore and bigger in the water. crisp, clean. had the missfortune to have waves while trying to get back to Hydra with the boat. was quite an experience and don't recommend if you have trouble with boats and wobbling. otherwise the bar is stocked with nice drinks and a few selection of foods. the small staff there is absolutely great.

Water is clean and the natural environment is unforgettable.
Reachable by boat or, which is strongly recommended, on foot. It is a relatively long hike from Hydra town, but you'll see all the different environments on the island.
Michelangelo Diligenti — Google review
Great beach, can be reached only by boat from hydra port, and costs 15€.
Due to it being protected by a gulf, the water feels super calm, almost as if you swam in a pool. Very clear, and not too cold.
A bar is there to offer refreshments and some basics, as well as bring sun beds, you d need cash for that.
Most likely you won’t have reception on your phone, so if you want to disconnect, that’s the place to do it.
Apostolos Potaris — Google review
Quiet, unpretentious, nice bar serving freshly made sandwiches, salads, smoothies, drinks; decent beer and alcohol selection. Surprisingly nice old jazz music at very acceptable volume, no trashy pop. Serene, classy, clean beach. There was even an attendant netting the shoreline for anything grubby in the water just in case. Fyi: Bring a towel, flip flops if you don't like pebbles.
William Skeaping — Google review
Very nice spot. Unfortunately did not make it to the bar before they closed for the evening. Beach is a bit rocky once your in the water. Good swimming once you make it past the rocks.
Steve Costa — Google review
A boat trip from the harbour €15 takes you to this lovely pebble beach sun beds are €4 but get there on one of the earlier trips as the beds are limited. The sea shore is shallow to start and ideal for swimming although you will need some suitable footwear as the pebbles become rocky under foot
There is a beach bar serving beer and soft drinks and snacks toasted sandwiches and salads quite reasonably priced
Only down side is that they have no toilet facilities other than the obvious

Amazing beach. Really quiet, the water is calm and clean. Not expensive(10€ for 2 chairs, food and drinks also fair prices)
Really recommend.
Sarakiniko Beach on the island of Milos is a stunning natural wonder with its moonlike white landscape, clear waters, and unique rock formations. The smooth white rocks create a narrow inlet with a small beach at the end, perfect for safe swimming and snorkeling. Nearby, the remains of a shipwreck offer another great spot for snorkeling. The surrounding white volcanic rock has been shaped by wind over time, creating fjord-like crags with pools and caves to explore.
This is one of the craziest places in earth, such an amazing beach, but little to no sand at all. The smooth white rocks make you feel like you're on the moon, and the heat will make you want to jump from the cliffs into the water below. Which is what most people do, into the deep blue water from various heights. There are many places to casually walk into the water and a few shallow inlets to sit down and relax in the water. Best beach on Milos.
Gordon Ryan — Google review
Most amazing beach! A lot of the reason why people visit Milos, gets very crowded peak season, if you wanna beats the crowds best to get there early in the morning, great place for cliff jumping too. Never been to such an amazing beach, there are also boat tours that include this spot but it’s easy enough to drive down and take a dip or a cliff jump, I did see some dogs there too but I wouldn’t recommend it might be too hot for their little paws.

Careful, It's not a "beach" place to sit all day.
The Rocks and generally this place looks like you're on a different planet. It's definitely a must when visiting the Island.

Absolutely loved this place! The scenery was breathtaking, felt like walking on the moon. It was packed but once you get past that and just enjoy the scenery and swimming, it’s awesome. Loved cliff jumping in to the water in 40 degrees heat. Had the best time. Definitely recommend coming here!

Unique landscape created by volcanic irruptions thousands of years ago; definitely worth visiting for the experience and the amazing pictures you’ll be able to take. From a beach point of view, don’t be disappointed when you realize that this is a small beach, that gets very busy ! Not great from a swimming point of view, but still top on the to do list. I’d also advise against visiting with children as it can be dangerous, if not taking precautions ( slippery rocks, hard to access and rocky beach ).
Elisabeth — Google review
It's called the moon beach, because of the smooth like floor. Its good for romantic pictures, a small accessible beach for kids, and cliff jumping for adventurous people like me 😃. There is a lot of things to do there so try to spend not less than 2 hours there. A must go beach when you are in Milos.
mona afifi — Google review
Super packed with tourists but super cool to see. It is a long walk down and long walk back up but worth it. Some slippery areas of loose rock when walking around and wet rocks when getting into the water so be careful. Had a blast cliff jumping to if you are into that. Easy swims back out.
Bill Sering — Google review
This beach is so pretty, the photos do not disappoint and as others have said it’s not super crowded for sunset. The water on the day we went was too harsh to do any cliff jumping but otherwise lovely moon-like beach with interesting areas like caves and just all the other hilly spots for pics. Dusk or dawn would be perfect for golden hour photos
Christina Tran (Tiinadear) — Google review
I highly recommend driving there in the morning between 6 and 7 am (for sunrise) to get a beautiful view of the ocean and other-wordly rocky landscape. During the day I suggest you go between 9 am - 3 pm, parking can be hard to find depending on time of year. I visited in mid May and so it wasn’t too bad.
Ronan MacGregor — Google review
5 stars does not seem high enough for this place. It is almost like a mars or moon landscape. The water was rough when we were there so didn't swim but there is a spot to wade in. We weren't expecting all of the caves that seemed to go on and on. So much fun
Neil Packman — Google review
The only reason I gave this a 4 is because it's only worth visiting for pictures and maybe jumping off the cliff if you're into that. It's definitely mesmerizing to see the white xolour rocks and makes for a great backdrop in pictures, but other than that, that's all it is. We went at 8am and there was already a few people there. I would suggest going no later than 8 if you want nice photos without anyone in them. By 9am, the parking lot was packed (end of June).

Beach is nice but overrated. Way too many people to give it a 5 star review. However, if you walk just a few minutes along you're quickly on your own

The must see place in Milos. It's hard to describe but the views and landscape are breathtaking!! Feels like you are on another planet. Take your time and enjoy.
Just be warned that it is uneven terrain so wear good shoes. It is also a decent trek and the white rocks reflect the sun so it can get very hot, so make sure you stay hydrated!! But definitely worth it!!
Nicholas Dounetas — Google review
Such a beautiful place! You have to strategically visit since the winds are rough and make the water unsafe to swim in, plus there’s often a lot of people, but the nature itself is breathtaking and so surreal.

Looks better in person than Instagram! What an amazing adventure to a truly magical spot. Make sure to pack a picnic and remove your trash. Lots to explore on both sides of the swimming area as well as the extensive cave system.

no words, is beautifull! cliff jump spot stays after the first big "pool", keep walking a bit to the other side! you can get off swimming through the little "cave" on the second pic and climbing a bit! Have fun!

This was an interesting place. I usually think of sand at a beach but there really isn't any here. The water & cliffs were beautiful. There is an area where you can walk in. Some people were swimming but it was too cold for me. There were some caves to walk in, but some people have thrown trash there.

Amazing moonscape like you've never seen before.
Quoting our hotel owner: The volcano did a beautiful job!
Go in the morning before 8 or after 6 for the spectacular lighting and also smaller crowds. It really does get crowded after 9.
Also, keep on walking past the beach. The view gets better and better as you go deeper!
Fu SH — Google review
This wonderful spot of Milos Island consists of gray-white volcanic rock formations of many different shapes. It offers a wonderful view and makes you feel like you are walking on the moon. There is a small beach in a sea recess, under the shade of a few small trees. Since the point where you enter the sea from the beach is quite shallow, it is possible to swim by jumping from some safe rocks.
If you're going on a sunny day, take into account that the rocks are hot and there is little shade. You can go early to find a shaded area or take an umbrella with you that will protect you from the sun.

Amazing, stark contrast between rock cliffs and water just has tk be seen. Water beautifully blue and plenty of rock jumping places.

Such a magnetic looking beach, just a short drive from town. Catching sunrises here is just amazing. The hues of the sky to the moon like terrain.
This beach is appropriate for all ages, there is a shallow part that perfect for kids to play in just right where the caves are. This point is sandy or small pebble beach easy for kids sit in and play with the sand. Further down is for those whom are decent swimmers as the ledges to jump off of vary due to the tide. Of course this is a swim/jump into the water at your own risk.
The water is at least 15 ft + deep so if you jump in, be aware you swimming into the smaller cove to climb up the rock face, which can be slippery.
Overall it’s beautiful day or night. Nighttime will best during a full moon, to have its glow reflect off it terrain.
Also from when I went I did not see any restrooms.

Kleftiko, a renowned tourist attraction in Milos and Greece, features striking white rock formations rising from the sea. Although it's not technically a beach, many boats tour the area to explore its sea caves and snorkeling spots. The crystal clear turquoise waters are perfect for swimming and snorkeling amidst the dramatic mountainscapes. This popular destination draws visitors from all over seeking an unforgettable experience.
Wonderful place to swim and the water was super clean! You can see the bottom of the floor and there’s some fish, but not too many. We really enjoyed this swimming spot and going through the pirate caves!
Make sure to get there early as boats and swimmers start to make the place busy!

Incredible place. Definitely worth hiring your own boat and going early. Perfect for swimming because it's so shallow, clear and protected.
By about 10-11, there were big tour boats coming in and asking the other boats to move out of their way. We left after that to another beach.
Before the big boats came in, the cove was one of the best places we've been to on Milos.

Undoubtedly, this is the place to be on Milos Island. Everybody goes there. We had the privilege of spending a night there on our own boat, anchored in front of one of the caves that drop from the dramatic mountains. Although the obvious popular choice is to go on a boat to the bay, the hike is as good if not better of a choice. At just over a mile, the walk down gives you amazing views of the rocks and water. The bay itself is beyond beautiful and swimming through the arches is one of the coolest experiences you can ever experience. You must go here if you are on Milos.

Beach only accessible by boat. Beautiful. Color of the water is great, transparent, can see the ground. Well worth it. Water is cold (May) but worth a dip. Stayed in area to the side of main beach with less boats, it can get pretty crowded. Bring some food and drinks and chill 👍 would go back

Great place for snorkeling, but you need to be careful, when there are too many tourist boats around.
The later you will get there the harder it is to find a good spot for your boat. Best thing would be to find a local skipper.

Popular for swimming & snorkeling, this beach offers shallow waters, volcanic cliffs & a snack bar.
Very nice beach with umbrellas and chairs…30 euro for two….about what you would pay everywhere else. Enjoyed the beach and the water is shallow. Will definitely visit again! Parking is not as easy in peak times . Going down is fine going up you get to enjoy a typical hot sun in Greece.

Some people said that it was the most beautiful beach in Milos, and though it was magnificent, I just found other beaches to be better. But definitely a must visit in Milos
Dimi Ntarl — Google review
One of the best beaches in Milos. Easy drive, good parking and not organised.

Really nice beach especially during the sunset is very romantic. The water is very clean but is possible to find a lot of people here.anyway the beach deserve the visit. It is mandatory.

Milos was my favourite island on all Greece and this beach is amazing.
A quiet beach to have some nice time with a beautiful landscape.
Please visit this place, it is a must on the island.
I recommend you to go early because the good spots to park your vehicle will be taken ... and there is a long walk to the beach tho. But it is definitely worth it.
There is not WC tho. Be prepared.

A southern Milos gem. Keeps the sun till half hour before sunset. Water temperature moderate. The loud music from the bar not a plus.
George Zed — Google review
Our favorite beach. You can walk way out and lots of sand. Plenty of privacy
Mark Huber — Google review
Easily my favorite beach we visited in Milos.
Meghan Lassiter — Google review
By far the best beach in Milos.
Clear waters, incredible scenery which reminds Ionian islands in Greece and a big beach split into two sides.
If you want to find a set of sunbeds, be sure to get there early otherwise you will not find any.
Tsigrado Beach is a secluded and picturesque beach nestled amidst towering cliffs, rocky passages, and caverns on the southern side of Milos island. Although challenging to access due to a steep and narrow path with ladders and ropes, the soft white sand and crystal-clear water make it a worthwhile sight. Tsigrado beach lacks organized amenities, so visitors should bring their own supplies for an enjoyable experience.
Beautiful beach! Hard to enter: look at the picture. You need to climb the latter up and down! When you arrive at the beach it’s amazing! It’s isolated by the cliffs on the sides and the small cave makes a fantastic place to swim and have fun.
The beach is small, but it’s perfect out of season when there is not that many tourists!
Michael Andersen — Google review
Stunning beach but difficult to access.
You need to use two massive ladders and rope to climb down. I’m scared of heights but could go down easily. Do not go with kids and I recommend to have good shoes or no shoes. We left our flip flops behind the time to experience this small adventure.
Marie Tessier — Google review
This was so fun adventuring to! Beach is beautiful and the view is stunning. The ladders aren’t easy, so the beach definitely isn’t busy.
Alix Burkart — Google review
Beautiful hidden away beach. The ladders are definitely a bit scary at first, but they are well worth the trouble! It is doable in flip flops but I would definitely recommend wearing sneakers. When you get down to the beach be sure to swim out to the tucked away caves on both sides.
Nicholas Perkons — Google review
Great cove to visit with a tricky decent into it. There is free parking at the top and then you climb down two ladders to reach the beach. Shoes advisable for the climb and pack light, as the rocks you have to travel between are tight.
Highly recommend getting there early in the morning. (We got there at 9am and the beach already had a few people on it). Beach has limited space and a lot of people arrive around 11am, including boats that drop off tourists.
Clear waters with a couple of caves you can explore. The sea floor is a mixture of large rocks and sand. Sea shoes recommended. Half of the cove is in the shade for the first half of the morning.
Nathan Attenborough — Google review
Overrated. Okay, the ladder experience is fun but can become scary for some people. After that, you'd expect a great beach and yet you get dry seaweed a bit everywhere, just a few meters of sand, and not much space. Maybe by boat it can be better - but go check firopotamos instead.
Deka DQ — Google review
Getting down to the beach on foot is challenging. There are two staircases and a rope. It is steep, rocky and slippery. The steps on the stairs are big.
But very worthwhile when you get down! The beach is small and mostly rocky. There are beautiful caves and lovely snorkelling spots.
Laura Porro — Google review
Well worth the hike down the cliff side to swim at this beach. The views at the top are stunning and one my favorite memories that will last a lifetime.
I hope I can return to Greece some days soon for more adventures.
Be safe and happy travels.

Double ladder descent to the beach makes this place so special. Highly recommend functional footwear. We went early in the day to avoid crowds and had it to ourselves for a little bit. Crystal clear water and incredibly cool rocks!
Aubrey Mable — Google review
Great little beach. Worth getting there by boat as opposed to car. If you drive/walk there you enter the beach via a ladder. The actual sand part of the beach is pretty small.
There's lots of shallow, crystal clear water. Great for swimming especially if the wind is blowing. Relatively protected beach.
Definitely less boats than kleftiko. I think there were only 2 other small boats there when we were.
Zack Letinic — Google review
This beach was amazing. My group ended up going back several times during our stay in Milos. Such a fun adventure to climb down ladders on a cliff to reach a beautiful beach. The beach area itself is fairly small, every time we went we didn’t have trouble getting an area to lay down at and leave our things, the water here felt so refreshing and was such a beautiful color. Highly recommend checking this beach out if you can!
Luke McNeal — Google review
Not a beach you go for their safety rating but that’s all part of the adventure, there’s a couple of steep ladders down into a deep cove beach, some nice caves, very rocky, best to get there earlier in the day as it looses sun later on

The best beach in Milos.
Access is not easy, the first part is more or less fine, the last staircase that goes down to the beach is a bit complicated. Nothing that can't be done! In the end, everyone who wants comes down.
It has a small cave that is an oasis of peace and tranquility.
The beach is spectacular, but you have to bring an umbrella.
I recommend wearing shoes tied to the foot to go down and up.
Carla Fernández — Google review
If you are somewhat in shape, it's a must!! Would avoid with kids or older people. We had to wait for 10+ people to come up one by one for us to go down, but once the "traffic" passes, it's basically going down a ladder. Make sure to watch where you put your feet and you're good to go. Stunning view for snorkeling place, calm water. Not lots of place to lay down so less crowds. Would go back and stay longer😁
tiffany leonard — Google review
If you want to access the beach, it's at your own risk because you gotta go down an old ladder.
The final destination is a private small beach to swim, not much space to lay down.
Beautiful view regardless.
Janessa Mari Oriel — Google review
Beautiful small beach, a little difficult to get to if you’re not able to climb a ladder etc, much easier to get back up vs get down there. there’s very little beach available to lay on but the water was beautiful and relatively calm and had a lovely pocket of sunshine and a nice breeze. Definitely toasty
Christina Tran (Tiinadear) — Google review
Beach accessible by going down the ladder. When we arrived there was a queue to get down. There is set of two ladders. Pretty tricky to get down. I'd recommend proper footwear as it is easy to fall with flip flops on. Once down there is pretty, small beach. Lovely place, can get crowded though.
Marta Barczak — Google review
Beautiful isolated beach.
Be warned that the descent down the cliffs via an old wooden ladder is not for the faint hearted!
During peak season it get quite backed up, due to people both trying to come down and go back up the single file ladders at once.
Joshua Bayly — Google review
It is not that hard to go down, go with comfortable shoes because you’re gonna have to go down two very sketchy stairs and the beach is very very small and crowded. You also have to wait to go up or down because there is only one way of stairs so it takes some time if there’s people. I liked it more when I saw it from above than when I went down. It is very pretty but I honestly liked other beaches more than this one. I recommend to go to fyriplaka which is next to this one and is bigger and with a nicer view and the most crystal water I’ve ever seen
Balos Beach is a well-known lagoon on the northwestern side of Crete that can be reached by either boat or car. A natural paradise with white sand and turquoise waters, it sits within the Gramvousa Peninsula, where visitors can also find two small islets overlooking the beach. The larger one has a Venetian fortress that was built to deter pirates. The shallow waters near the shore are perfect for snorkelling while further out in the lagoon there are deeper parts to explore.
Amazing place, the colour of sand and water Is so beautiful.
You have to drive for about 20 min on gravel road, pay €1 per person at the entrance to the area. Once parked on free parking area, walk 20 min down to the beach. Wear comfortable shoes, so you can walk on stony uneven path. I was wearing flip flops and was fine, so not too bad of a walk. Elevation is about 150m, so wouldn’t recommend to elderly or very young kids, unless you can carry them some of the way.
Natalie M — Google review
One of the most beautiful places I ever visited! So many shades of blue, the water is clean and there are even a few patches of pink sand. If you rent an umbrella, just make sure you close it before going in for a swim, since the wind is pretty strong in the lagune.
Carmen Florina — Google review
The road to the beach is quite long, if you have a rental car the policy does not allows you to go on this route. We rented an ATV from the city next to it and it took about 25 minutes to the parking lot.
But then you have to walk for about 20-30 minutes to get down to the beach.
The water wasn’t so turquoise blue like in the pictures and definitely I couldn’t say it’s the most beautiful beach in Greece.
Probably, going by boat would’ve been a better option.
Roxana Golaes — Google review
Although we intended to take the ferry to get here, we didn't make it as it was fully booked and we were told that only one trip is made per day. So, we ended up taking the road trip but I think that's the best thing to happen to us. The road was difficult but it was definitely worth it, we stopped a couple of times to buy sandwiches and drinks that were local to the area. when we reached I thought we may not be able to get the parking as it was mentioned many times but when we got there, the locals charged us €2 to enter per person and parking facilities were good as the locals were managing it. From there we started a little hike down to the beach, the view was amazing. Took lots of pictures along the way. I couldn't get enough of it, simply beautiful. There weren't many people on the beach and it was peaceful. After spending an hour there we saw the ferry arriving at the beach, so many people got down at the same time and that was our cue to depart from the beach. All and all, it was a thing to remember. This is definitely a must to see the beach. Highly recommend.
Sony Prajapati — Google review
This is a beautiful place to view from up top. Other than that it's interesting having all these people running, laying, sitting in the pond/swamp-like water, but not more than that. The closed off lagoon's water is dirty because of everyone going in. The shallow isn't good for swimming. The swimmable part of the beach is overwhelmed and has slippery pebbles till you get to somewhere you can enter the water. So yes - beautiful beach, not a good beach. Please keep clean and have in mind there are a lot of people there.
Marin ?SayanMk? Kolev — Google review
This is still one of the most impressive views after 5 years!
It is quite challenging to get there following a narrow dirt road but so so worth it!
Oh, even after reaching there by car, you need to walk like 2-30 min, it was quite tough because of the sun, but the hiking itself is doable with flipflops.
Soohyun Park — Google review
It's obviously stunning and a must see. The road there is 10km of bumpy and slow off-road and the place is a bit too touristy for my liking with a lot of sunbeds and umbrellas giving it a slight hotel resort feel. Wander off a bit to the other side and walk a loop around the lake over the rocks to get a more secluded feel
Marc Frencken — Google review
Love the beach so much! It has the blue color that i was always wanting to experience, water so clear and shallow so u are not scared of not being able to swim! Took a walk on the top and u can also see the panorama view! Juat that the ferry left so quick and u had no much time to explore! Wish the tour could last longer!
Quynh Ha — Google review
It was a very nice beach with a natural scenery view, but then walking down and up the mountain can be stressful. Make sure you wear very comfortable shoes (trainers) and make sure you are very fit or you could take a boat there instead. Driving there is not bad but dusty. In general you should visit beach, it’s a must see
Nankam Clement — Google review
Is it worth the drive trough the worst road ever, the hike down (20 mins) and back up (30-40 mins)? Absolutely yes! It hurt but that’s how you form precious core memories. Parking lot is too small so we found a 1km of cars parked alongside the last part of the road, so add this to the hike, you’re gonna park faaar away. Any how, it’s awesome and they have goats!
Razvan Costache — Google review
The beach is beautiful. There is a small part of water separated from the main see and which is very shallow, very good for kids. The entrance to the territory costs 1 euro per person and the parking costs another 3 euro. Then you have to take a small hike (~20 mins) and you will be there. The hike is very easy. The beach gets crowded towards 11:00. There are no big waves and swimming there is very joyful

This godly, otherworldly beach is probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in. Sapphire, crystal clear water with a lot of space to swim, agreeable temperature and the two rising mounts that are surrounding the place. You can easily get to the top of the hill, a bit rocky and it doesn't have a path but you have the checkpoints that will guide you there and you'll have a gorgeous view from the beach, the islands nearby and the mount. I arrived at the morning and I was able to enjoy a lot. It gets busy in the afternoon with all the tourists coming in from the boat but well, what can you do. Unfortunately I found plenty of plastic scattered around the hill and had to myself clean a little bit, so please watch out for anything that you will throw away. Getting there was easy by car, very comprehensive roads and a parking lot. We had to pay to enter and I think also for the parking but it's not much and it is worth it, of course. Specially if the money goes for conservating this paradise. The chairs under the parasols are paid and it was 20 euros.

Loved it! The toilet was broken or closed however when we where there during Easter week, and the time that took us to get there was really underestimated by oneself. Also not the easiest path to take, but worth it. I burned 1000 calories durjng this trip.

Suuuuch a beautiful place! Took a boat trip there. Waters are shallow for a large part but you can reach a swimable distance that is safe, warm yet refreshing waters. Bed and umbrellas free for anyone to use. You can drive there but be sure you’ll have to climb down a very big mountain for approx 20 min!
Nicole Villegas Gomez — Google review
Beautiful beach and the lagoon is just amazing. Shallow and warm water with no waves. The only downside is the 9km dirt road and the 2.5km of walking down the cliff to the beach from the carpark. To be honest, it was even more difficult yo get back to the top.
Wojciech Delong — Google review
Not worth the hassle in my eyes. 30 min drive on a very bad road, another 30 min walk to the beach which gets very crowded with people who arrive by boat. Places to actually swim are few and far between as the waters are quite shallow here. €1/person for entry, €3 for parking, and €20 for a beach set. Probably best to be the first or last to arrive in the day. The goats are cool though :)
Filip Novotn? — Google review
Balos Beach is a true natural gem that left us in awe during our visit. The twenty minutes hike down to the beach, which included navigating through gravel, stones, and rocks, was an adventure in itself. We even had a delightful stop at the viewpoint, where we were treated to breathtaking scenery and encountered some curious goats along the way. Trust me, sturdy footwear is an absolute must for this trek.
But once you arrive at the beach, it's like stepping onto another planet. The white sand is simply mesmerizing, contrasting beautifully with the clear blue waters of the sea. The picturesque setting makes it a fantastic spot for sunbathing, swimming, or simply soaking in the natural beauty.
It's important to note that Balos Beach can get quite crowded around midday, as tour boats typically dock at twelve pm. If you prefer a quieter experience, consider arriving early in the morning or later in the afternoon.
The only caveat is the hike back up, which is undoubtedly more challenging than the descent. However, the stunning beach and panoramic views make every step worthwhile. Balos Beach is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and beach lovers alike, just be prepared for that uphill journey!
Michel B — Google review
Balos beach is a must see beach from the nearby hill. If visited by a boat, you have to climb the rocky path in order to see the entire beauty of it. This is the reason we picked the unpaved road. It takes about 10 km of it, not very pleasant to travel, however, it seems maintained and secure. You can see a lot of goats and sheep while driving as well as on the beach. Bring them snack or close your beach bags, so they don’t pick the threats themselves. The fee to enter the natural park is €1 per person (cash) for clean up and maintenance almost at the beginning of the dirt road. Then, parking costs €3 payable cash or by card in the coffee/sandwich shop at the parking lot. There is a person helping with the parking logistics in the morning as the parking can get really packed at lunch time. The journey down hill takes about 30 minutes and even more if you stop for pictures. You aren’t allowed to use your own umbrella, no need to carry it all the way down. If you get there early, there could be available beach chairs and umbrellas for €20 per set. It gets very busy after noon with the boats arriving. The bigger ones don’t turn their engines off while waiting for the tourists so it gets noisy, too. Apart from this and the too many small boats and water paddle boats, the nature is preserved, stunning views and colors.

This is a must go place. It is so breathtaking that no Words can describe its beauty. Awesome place, beach a nice canteen nearby and boats to rent in the area. You need to carry cash or you can literally not enter the natural reserve. Fee is 1 euro per person. Also, loads of hungry goats are there. It's phenomenal.

I took a ferry to come to this beach. We stayed 2-3 hours (we booked this through agency). I wish we got more time to spend here but in that amount of time spent here I absolutely loved it. The beach is nice and water is very warm (depends on what time of the year you go - we went in September). Walking to the beach it can be an awkward walk cause some of the stones can be really big so you have to take precautions. All in all I definitely recommend visiting this beach.
Gabrijela Tvrtkovic — Google review
This was by far my favorite Crete beach simply because it is absolutely gorgeous. Having read the reviews we decided to go by car, because that would allow us a full day at the beach. The cruise companies only seem to spend a couple of hours here (which is a good thing in my opinion).
Getting to Balos by car consists of driving along 11 kilometers of unpaved road, occasionally navigating turns and twists, there are sharp stones and except for a few places there is no railing on the sea side so I can see how some might find it uncomfortable driving there. But I thought that it is absolutely worth it. You pay 1 euro to enter the area and 3 euros for parking (which is also full of sharp stones). From the parking lot you have to go down to the beach, maybe a 20 minutes walk (on the way back it's uphill so maybe 30-40 minutes). The views of the beach from the path are breathtaking and there are many goats along the way.
The beach has a toilet (1 euro) and a small shop selling sandwiches and drinks. You are not allowed to use your own umbrella so don't bother bringing any. There are a few umbrellas and beds available for rent, I don't remember how much we payed but it's in line with the other beaches of the island. Around lunch time the boats arrived and the beach became very crowded, but like I mentioned they only stay for an hour or two and then leave so in the afternoon it became less crowded again.
Andreea Șerban Francu — Google review
Driving to this beach is a bit difficult but not impossible. We need to drive almost 6 kms on a dirt road.
From parking we need to walk about 45-60 mins for normal people or 20-30 mins for fit people.
Walking is a bit difficult so please plan accordingly especially if you have a baby or elder people in your group.
There is only one canteen at the beach, food and drink options are very limited. There is no shower as well.
Beach is very beautiful and water is so clear. You can rent a boat there directly if you want.
There is lot of sea weed at some parts of the beach but if you go inside the water there is nothing.
All in all it’s an excellent beach in crete with some amazing views and awesome driving experience.
We enjoyed our experience but hope to see some cable cars or so next time I visit here or at least they build some new roads.

Definitely a must see location, the rocky sides, the flora, the water there, it all makes this place very special. Sandy beaches, in some places you’ll find the same pink hues sand as in elafonissi beach. Highly recommend to visit.
Tip: take proper water shoes with rubber sole and snorkeling mask with you, the water in some places might have quite sharp rocks but you’ll be rewarded with amazing fish and sea life
Stavros Beach is a picturesque sandy beach nestled at the northern end of the Akrotiri Peninsula, near Chania. It gained fame as a location for the classic film "Zorba the Greek" and continues to attract visitors with its golden sands and stunning mountain backdrop. Despite being popular, it offers a tranquil escape, especially due to its natural harbor that provides protection from winds.
First of all the beach is great, sandy, great view, in the left part there are great rocks and the sea waves hitting them are spectacular. Not great is the price of the sun beds, 20 euro for two sun beds and an umbrella, way to expensive. But, despite that, the beach is worth the trouble as it is not crowded and the sand, water and views are great.
Elena Preda — Google review
Stavros beach is charged with the memory of the famous movie scene from Zorba the Greek. Otherwise, it is a special, unique place, like many others..., but definitely not to be missed.

Small, clean and quiet but the fish in the water bites if you stand still.

Water is lovely, calm, warm, clear. Watch the fish swim around you. Beach bar is a little off though. The service ladies are wonderful but that’s it, the drinks and food were sub par. Backdrop was beautiful though and it’s easily accessible by car and level walk to water. Nice Restaurants around there too. Well worth a visit

Lovely family beach!
We visited Stavros Beach on a fairly windy day, the natural harbour and protection from the mountain make this beach perfect to hide from the wind. The beach has chairs organized by the restaurant across the street from the beach. €25 gets you an umbrella and two loungers. Initially we thought a bit pricey as other beaches you can pay under €10. But, what Stavros beach does well is drinks/food service to the beach. Which with having a small child was great.
One of the cleanest beaches/ sand / water we had on our trip to Crete.
Great for families as there aren’t many waves. Couple of rocks on entry into the water, but not enough that you would need to wear shoes.
We loved it, and kept comparing Stavros beach wherever we went.

We were a bit hesitant about going after reading all the reviews. We arrived at around 6pm and it was perfect. Beach was not crowded, temperature was incredible, warm water. It truly looked like a swimming pool. The landscape it's magnificent. Definitely in my top 3.
The but? Few rocks to avoid while getting in the water.

It is really nice and exciting to see the famous beach from the movie Zorba the Greek. The beach and the surroundings are quite beautiful.
Highly recommend going up to the cave in the mountain above the beach. The view is amazing! The trail is steep and you’ll need proper shoes, definitely not flip flops.
The beach itself is small and It’s overcrowded in summer. The price of umbrellas and sunbeds is higher than that of other beaches.

Famous place because of the movie Zorba the Greek! It is a beautiful place but there are many other places across Crete that are much more beautiful!
There's a flavor of tourist trap...

The beach is amazing, clean and organized. The reason i gave 3 stars is the price for umbrella and sunbeds is 30 euros which i find a bit too much.
However you can always bring your own gear if you have and sit away from the sunbeds area and you will be fine.
You can see a cave right on top of the hill that you can hike and have an amazing view of the beach. And then dive into the cold water.

Stavros Beach is a lovely beach, but actually there are many other beaches in Crete that are more impressive and more interesting to visit. Although Stavros has beautiful turquoise waters and soft white sand, the place is relatively small and can be quite crowded during the summer season.

Beach is great , we had our own umbrella . There is also a bar that rents umbrellas and sun beds for 30 euros !!! A complete rip off . The owner asked us to remove our umbrella because it was 3 metres in front of his own umbrella, disregard him completely and do not be intimidated by him . He is illegal and has no right to block other people from sitting there with their own umbrellas.

Very nice beach with restaurants around
The beach is equipped with cabins to change clothes
The water is transparent turquoise
Be careful, small fish can bite you
Do not rent the set of sun because it will cost you 30€ per day
However, at Agia Marina Beach Canteenery), it costs only 5€.
I recommend this beach

Akrotiri, Greece
I'll never travel to Elafonissi without this trip planner again
Seitan Limania is a remote sandy beach located in Cape Akrotiri, about 20km east of Chania town on the island of Crete. It is surrounded by rock formations and nestled in a wild area, making it unique and beautiful. Despite not being as wide as Elafonisi or exotic like Balos, Seitan Limania's striking blue shades of the sea attract many visitors.
Small but amazing hidden beach. Loved it. Had an amazing time there. In peak Summer, it might get crazy busy with a lot of tourists. Remember three things going there.
1 - the drive there is by a sneaky road, so be prepared to drive carefully. Its not crazy, you can do it.
2 - you need to hike down from the parking to the beach, so NO sandals please for the hike. Hike is not too extreme, so dont worry. Just be prepared
3 - Go in the first half of the day, as during second half the sun starts hiding off of the cliffs

Such an Amazing beach between the mountains...incredible views great place. It's a bit hard to get down and up there ( kind of climbing) so be prepared...
It's even suitable for sporting people, u can climb and jump in the water.
Ayham Akesh — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches in this area! Much more worth it than Elafonisi! There's parking, but you need to descend on a pretty narrow path down the mountain to get to the beach. We did it in flip flops with a 7y old in about 10-15 minutes. Ascend is easier! The beach is narrow, but not too crowded. Bring your own umbrella because there is some shade up until 11 am. Water is crystal clear and cold enough so you can chill on a hot day like ours - 26.07.23 - 42 deg C.
Highly recommend arriving early, until 10 am so you can enjoy the almost empty beach.
Well worth the trip, descent and ascent!

Beautiful beach! 💙 Worth the trek down there but it’s quite scary as it’s not really steps.. more like climbing down rocks on a cliff edge to get to the bottom, take good shoes.

Extremely crowded on a very small beach. I recommend visiting early in the morning or at sunset. View is absolutely amazing. Road is not so bad as others said, but still with small children or elder is not recommended. Is a short 15 min descending in the cliffs and definitely not with Beach slippers. Don’t carry on with you scuba diving equipment because water is not so clear

One of my favorite beaches on Crete. It's possible to jump from cliff. Water is deep but rocks are sharp. I recommend swimming shoes for more pleasant climbing. Take potato chips for goats - they love it. Snorkeling is also pleasant there due to colorful fishes.

Picturesque beach location, only available by boat or hike! Not strenuous, maybe half a mile, but very very rocky & with a lot of food traffic can get busy going up & down. Not Ada accessible. It was worth it for this view & beach experience! Billy Goats will approach you, not harmful. Once down there it’s just breathtaking.
Kara Galvan — Google review
Quite nice little pebbles beach with entertaining goats 🐐Worth a visit despite the climb (wear proper shoes!) and the clever but stubborn goats, which will harass you and search your bags for food. It’s probably best to bring no food at all and enjoy the show put up by the goats and the other tourists. 😂

Amazing beach ,clear blue water and some goats. The goats will steal your food 😁, please be kind to them and keep your bags closed and give them some bread when you leave the beach. Don't forget to leave your trash with you. The access to the beach is made by rocky pat. Advice: use sneakers to do this pat.

Secluded, interesting beach. It is perfect for cliff jumping. Not interesting for snorkeling, even though the waters are crystal, there is nothing to see underwater. The pathway to it is very steep and the way back is hard in the heat. The parking is free. Be careful with the goats, they are indeed eating everything and will go through your stuff, bags and all.

I think pictures can't portrait the beauty of this beach! Totally worth the small hike to get to the beach! However, I suggest use a good pair of sneakers because you will walk through many rocks. Plus, goats are super friendly and hungry! 😋
Maritere — Google review
Extremely beautiful cave with a 10 minute hike down from the parking spot. Be aware of the goats they WILL eat anything you bring down. Overall cool vibe an beautiful water also perfect for cliff diving 👌🏼
Jakob — Google review
Lovely small hidden beach, no goats this time. Such a beauty spot! But I am not joking when I say it's a fight to get to. The roads are narrow and scary. You need good footwear and knees of steel. But once you get to the bottom you see the most beautiful rocky beach with clear blue waters. A true gem.
Holly Preece — Google review
I was literally out for a morning ride to find something to do. I just got to the island and didn't want to waste one minute. I stumbled on this 💎 GEM. It may be well known by locals, but I absolutely loved it. Don't wear flip-flops. The hike is very technical however, very doable. The age range while I was there about 10 to mid 60's just take your time and watch your step it's about a 10 to 15 minute walk straight down a gully.
Clothes were optional... one last but very important fact the goats are very aggressive to eat anything you have, including books. Bring something that you can secure all of your stuff and don't leave it unattended when you go in the water.
LAUS DEO — Google review
Must visit beach! To get there is pretty easy as the road is well maintained. I recommend be there around 8:30-9:00 as parking lot is small. We went around this hour and there were plenty of free places. The hike down is not that scary and difficult as well. Do not wear flip flops, watch your steps and you’ll be fine. Take snacks and water with you. Goats on the beach are very friendly and will eat your food unless you close your bags/backpacks. So if you plan to socialise with them bring some extra food. You can cliff jump which we did. Take water shoes with you as the rocks are pretty painful to stand on. Since the beach is tiny expect it to get very crowded in the afternoon.
Диана Перехрест — Google review
Surreal experience. Beautiful private swimming cove that’s pretty hard to access. The drive in has extreme winding roads and after you park you have to hike down an extremely steep and rocky path. Better not wear flip flops there are no safety railings.
If you complete the challenge you will be rewarded with a beautiful swimming beach with cliffs for cliff jumping and for the goats.
The goats are good aggressive so keep your food away from them.
Andrew Lian — Google review
Beautiful spot, the climb/descend can be challenging for elders or less mobile people but it is well worth the challenge. Beautiful views and swimming spot, we could even swim on the 29th of December.
JF Paquin — Google review
One of a kind beach to visit in Crete.
Absolutely spectacular view from the top to the torquoise water deep down in the gorge. It was a spontaneous visit so we came with our regular slippers and were afraid we wouldn't be able to climb down the path, but it was fine to go with any kind of shoes, however, if you plan to go there, rather wear hiking or snorkeling shoes for stability. The beach has goats that feel absolutely free to chill there and interact with the visitors, if you wish to feed them, please do not use human snacks and fast food which we saw the majority did, buy some carrots, apples or cucumbers instead. Absolute must visit place!

Archaeological Site of Aptera | Αρχαιολογικός Χώρος Απτέρας
This place is mystical and leaves a lot of things to your imagination. Walk around and get lost in the best suggestion I can give. Also stand in the middle of the amphitheatre and hear your voice echo.
Hazique G.M — Google review
Beautiful. We loved all the things to see here. We brought 8 people in our van. Parking was easy. Amphitheater is amazing. The cistern was so impressive! To see so much history in such a small space is really great.

The views are amazing , the site itself is very interesting you can get round the whole site in about 2 hours. However if you have mobility issues the ground is quite uneven in places.

A really great archelogical site. Entrance fee was 4€ when we were there in April 2022. Thanks for keeping history alive for the younger generations!
Florian — Google review
Gorgeous, exciting, incredibly preserved! This was one of the highlights of our trip and is well worth a visit. Splendid views and a fascinating site. No shade cover so prepare to be warm but don't miss the theatre!
James Johnston — Google review
The end of April is a great time to visit the ruins. It's beautiful and fascinating. I definitely recommend this.
G Jones — Google review
A beautifully preserved archaeological site. There is enough there for at least an hours exploration, you can walk around many of the ruins, even delving into the monumental cistern beneath the ruins.
The site was empty of people when we went which was an enjoyable experience.
Annabelle — Google review
Large, elevated site with excellent views of the surrounding area. Still only partly excavated, the many areas can be explored at will. The amphitheatre is worth the long walk down an olive tree lined pathway and gives an idea of the spread of culture, even in remote areas of the island. The information centre is located in a room of the monastery.
Joseph Gregory — Google review
Informational & easily walkable! Though I’m not museum type, my husband enjoyed this a lot. Has nice working bathrooms, which I didn’t expect. When we were there it looks like a local school was practicing a play- so cute! Imagine this being your local theater!

Nice, very lonesome place (at least at the beginning of April) with oustanding views. Definately a 'must see' if you are on Crete

Ruins are in various states but give you a great impression of how life was. Most impressive was the 3 domed cistern and the amphitheatre. There are fantastic views from the Ottoman fort down the road too.

The Archaeological Site of Aptera is a hidden gem of Crete that is definitely worth a visit. It was very easy to find and we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful ancient ruins that we encountered. We visited in April, and the surrounding fields were in full bloom, adding to the already stunning atmosphere.
What's more, as a youth group, we were delighted to discover that there was no admission fee, making it an even more attractive option for budget-conscious travelers. The site is well-maintained and the information provided on the signage is very informative, giving visitors a fascinating insight into the history of the area.
Walking around the site is a truly breathtaking experience, as the ancient structures are still standing strong and offer a glimpse into the lives of those who once lived here. It's amazing to think that these buildings have been standing for thousands of years, and yet they still look so grand and impressive.
Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the Archaeological Site of Aptera. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or simply looking for a unique and beautiful place to explore, this site has something for everyone. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the site could benefit from a bit more interactive elements to engage visitors, but nevertheless it was an unforgettable experience.

Stumbled on this gem!
We wanted to enjoy the countryside so drove to have lunch nearby and stumbled upon this site - pretty amazing and well preserved (particularly compared with Knossos…)
Almost had the place to ourselves and a relaxing and interesting walk around the site.
Beautiful cistern and theatre buildings

Wow we were really impressed by this archaeological site. Ancient ruins and houses well-preserved, you can even go inside the ancient cistern. Very instagrammable photos are taken here! And of course the historical part is sooo interesting as this place was built at least on 11th century bc! The entrance costs just 4 euro but we've spent here more that 1 hours
Natalia Yefimova — Google review
Extremely beautiful archeological place to visit with a lot of history and sightseeing. You need to check what time its open before you visit and it also has a paid entrance that costs around 4 euros. There is also a huge parking nearby and a lot of paths that lead to different sightseeing but require some walking. There are signs with information and photos of the sights your seeing with a lot of information provided.
CRETA TOURS — Google review
I absolutely loved the experience! The sites were not overcrowded, the ruins are beautifully kept and the information very interesting. At €4 an absolute bargain and worth every sent.
Geropotamos beach is a beautiful sight visible from the Heraklion to Chania highway. The beach features a river and lagoon on one side, with a broad stretch of sand extending to its left. A magnificent sea arch named Kamara adds to the picturesque view. Though it's a small gravel beach with strong waves, locals visit it frequently after work hours for its calm ambiance and excellent little bar overlooking the shore.
Nice little pebble beach with a taverna, ideal for sunset chill out. Taverna has a decent prices especially if compared with nearby hotels. Sea gets really deep quote quickly so not really suitable for not swimmers, especially when high waves. There is also a flock of ducks terrorising anybody with a food preferable crisps, you have been warned 😀

This is a lovely secluded beach area. The bar and restaurant area is really good. The bar offers a service to people on the Sun loungers and the food in the restaurant is superb

Amazing beach 🏖️. This was one of our favourite, rocky, gravely beach with high waves. It was fantastic. It gets deep really quickly so be careful with kids.
There is a bar and tavern next to the beach. The food is ok, but nothing special. You can rent bed set with umbrella 🏖️ for 7 euro which is a good price compared with other places.
There are plenty of parking places which is free, but be careful before you turn to the road and coming from the opposite direction because there is a traffic camera just before the turn after the bridge😅

A gorgeous "hidden" beach on the north shore of Crete near Rethymno. The drive seems a little sketchy but it's worth it. Had the beach to ourselves at sunset between New Year's and Epiphany. Also, nearby Small Beach just to the east is gorgeous. If you speak a little Greek, try charming the security guard for an easy drive to a luxurious beach.

Cool waves and sea. There is also a bar with reasonable prices and tasty food.
Beach could be a bit cleaner but I love the sea there.

Quick STOP for the beach on the way to Rethymno city and it was sure nice. Clean not people at all and you can also buy some drinks and food. Easy parking and PetFriendly (of course not where is chairs for rent)

Beautiful beach with fine sand on land and pebbles in the water. Parking is free and the sunbed cost 4€.
Catering is also friendly and cozy, prices for tasty meals and drinks are quite reasonable.
The umbrellas are sustainably made from defoliated palm branches, which produce good shade.
All in all, you can not really complain about the beach but just enjoy it.

Nice small gravel beach with quite strong waves. Right next to the main road between Heraklion and Rethymno. It was rather quiet when we were here, but is apparently well visited by locals in the evenings after work. Very nice little bar overlooking the beach. Sunbeds cost 5€ and there is a fresh water shower available.

Geropotamos beach is a serene paradise with stunning views, crystal-clear waters, and peaceful vibes. There is also a little cliff to jump down. There is plenty of space to park your car. It is definitely worth a visit!

I.like that place. Very good drinks in the bar and super food in the Taverna. It is not recommend with small kids as the sea is getting deep after a few meters. Also note it is not a sand beach.
Glyka Nera beach, also known as Sweet Water beach due to its freshwater sources, is a pebble beach surrounded by cliffs and accessible only by foot or boat. The cold and clear waters of the beach originate from mountain springs and can be reached via the European E4 trail with a hour-long walk from Loutro. The location is unique, featuring a tavern on an islet that allows nudism. Trees are present on the sweet water beach which provides gorgeous views during the journey.
We were here Sept 21 and now love this beach , the snorkelling is excellent ,the taverna is great and the boat trip or walk are enjoyable (tickets for boat are only from the service that is situated on the Hora Skafion harbour, the smaller business). Top tip , take some bread to feed the fish they love it!! this eventually enticed the Dolphin fish pictured below to come and explore which was a bonus to catch on my gopro.

Sweet Water Beach, also known as Glyka Nera Beach, is an impressive hidden gem situated between Loutro and Hora Sfakion.
What sets this beach apart from others is the drinkable natural mountain spring water that is hiding at this beach.
The pure and crisp taste of the spring water is truly fascinating, but you’ll need to do some work to find it. If you visit this unique beach, don’t miss the chance to discover the spring water. It’s an experience that will blow you away!

The beach is good and it’s not super popular. It can be accessed either by a hike (25-30 mins) or by a boat. There were not so many people coming by boat in the beginning of September so overall by 12:00 there were probably ~30-40 people overall on the beach (and the beach is pretty long). Part of the beach closer to Sfakia is taken by nudists. What is pretty unfortunate is that a large part of the beach is closed by a fence with tables that forbid camping there (likely due to risk of falling rocks). The set of two sunbeds and an umbrella costs 10 euro and you must pay to the owner of trattoria who pretty much took over the beach. It is possible to just lay on your towels but there is not so much space and most of the space in the shadow of the mountains/trees is closed with the fence (first tile I have seen it). Either this is a beach with a very high risk of stones falling down, or the owner of the sunbeds wants to maximise the profit. The water was pretty clear although there was a lot of garbage like tyres on the bottom of the sea. The beach itself is not very picturesque. There is a free shower. Overall it might be worth a 1-1.5h ride because the hike to the beach is beautiful but definitely this should not be your top priority to visit if you are based far away
Alexey Subach — Google review
Excellent beach with crystal clear water. Be warned, the water is cold due to the springs of sweet water that run into the sea - you can see the bubbles rising from the sea bottom!
Akis Kioupakis — Google review
It is rated as one of top 20 beaches to visit in Europe, the sole reason being that there are sweet water springs inside the sea and on the beach. Keep in mind that you will need to bring your own sun umbrella because the amount of sunbeds and trees is limited. There are showers on the beach that are pumping water from the spings under. Most of the beauty is inside the sea where salt water and sweet water are mixing and it makes that beautiful green color.

So, it will be the realist feedback about this beach. So you need park the car in the middle of nowhere in the road, after that you need to go 40 - 60 minutes though the hills and rocks, and I hope you wearing snickers, not the flip flops, like us. But the beach is very beautiful with the really silk water )

Incredible location, worth the hike in and out. Or ferry if you can’t be bothered to hike but I do recommend doing so as the hike isn’t that hard and quite special. The natural fresh water spring under the sand is wonderful too. A very special place
Chiffeni Rofe — Google review
Wow, wow, wow! One of my all time favourite beaches.
The hike from the trail head is 25 minutes and it is stunning and not so difficult but be sure to wear shoes and not thongs or sandals and carry everything in your back so you have 2 hands free.
When you arrive at the beach you will think it’s just ok and nothing special. The sand is greyish and there are pebbles.
The reward is when you enter the water and get past the rocky entrance. The waters are some of the cleanest, most crystalline I have ever seen. As you swim further out the water changes from aqua to turquoise to azure, all the while being crystal clear as if you’re in a swimming pool. The visibility is incredible, even more than 100 metres off shore.
This beach feels quite wild, it is very long and is not accessible by car, so it never feels crowded (last week of August, first week of September 2023). There are fresh water springs under the sand so you can take a fresh water shower on the beach. Umbrella and 2 chairs €10, and even arriving at 1pm there were still free beds.
At the end of the beach are toilets and a very good taverna, the food is delicious and the staff are lovely. You get on and off the very on the same jetty as the taverna, in fact the taverna is the jetty.
The taverna end seemed more for families. The other end of umbrellas that you come to first if you’re hiking from Sfakia is more clothing optional.
I love this beach. Go if you want dramatic scenery, peace and quiet, crystalline water and a memorable experience!

A beach that you should not miss if you arrive in Crete. There are two ways to reach it, one on foot, but probably quite dangerous if you are not properly equipped (boots), to be safe.
From the beginning we gave up after we reached where everyone parks and we chose to take the ferry that connects Sfakia - Swet water and Loutro for the price of €8 return per person. The beach is equipped with cots and umbrellas at the price of €10/2 people.
The water is different from the rest of the beaches, slightly cooler, due to the springs that flow into the sea. You can hear a sizzle if you dive.
About the tavern on the pontoon, only words of praise. We served a Greek salad, an octopus, 1/2 wine, a water for the price of €32. It is very enough for 2 people.
We warmly recommend!

A little piece of heaven hidden in a cove. Crystal clear turquoise waters. Complete serenity and calm. Only a couple dozen umbrella settings or so. You can only get here by boat or tracking a relatively easy but still very rocky trail for about 20 mins.
Boats run several times a day and will offer a taxi service to drive you up to where you parked your car.
Part of the beach is clothing optional.

Very nice beach. The waters are crystal clear. There is a small restaurant for snacks and refreshments. The beach here is a very famous spot for naturists. So don't be shocked to see a lot of naked people.

I really believe this is the best place in Crete. You can reach this one by boat from the Sfacia town or doing a longer hike. Be sure to have proper footwear for the hike. There is a small bar/restaurant on the spot so no worries about that

Very nice beach, easy to spend the whole day here with a good book, we parked at the top and made our way down on foot rather than take the boat. It is best you take a pair of trainers of walking boots with you for the hike down and plenty of water. On the beach you'll find a boat, here you can purchase refreshments and food if you don't take your own. We spent the entire day here, water is lovely, nudist beach on the left hand side of the beach.
One of the best experiences in Crete.. it’s easy to book, the service is on point & our skiffer Costas was amazing!! The best part was he took us to some amazing secluded beaches & helped the non swimmers to cross & reach the beach! Highly highly recommend the Sfakia day trip in private boat!

Fantastic day of boating. Brilliant and knowledgeable captain who took us to some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. A must.

We have no problem with the hire of the boat which was very good although we could not go swimming from the boat as we had problems getting back in the boat. I struggled due to the bottom step swinging the wrong way when trying to get back into the boat causing excessive brushing to my shins. My wife could not get back into the boat at all therefore rendered the experience for her as a waste of time. The safety briefing was excellent and all the staff were great. The check in process be a bit quicker but there was only one girl doing this so 10 to 15 minutes with each customer if there is a queue is quite tedious. The cost of the fuel was not overly excessive 20 ltrs cost around €34 which took us to the most westerly point allowed.

We have rented a boat tour including captain with this agency.
We visited Sweat Water Beach, Marmara Beach and Loutro.
The reason why we rented a private tour is, we wanted to decide our own time frame and spoil ourselves a little.
They were friendly and kind. The service is I think a little expensive. This is the only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. But there are also regular ticketed tours you can book.
Captain was also professional and friendly.
I would recommend to book a tour with captain since you do not worry about parking the boat. They are dropping you at the beach you want and picking you up whenever you want.

Rented a boat 30hp at Sfakia. Very friendly service. Nice boat. Got all the instructions on how to control the boat. No issues. You pay for the boat, then you pay for the used gas.
They have 3 locations. We’ve chosen southern part of the island to explore more, as we l’ve stayed in the northern part. Very beautiful beaches there and magnificent water colour. Recommending a boat for the whole day.

Fantastic experience renting a boat for the day. It enables you to see some amazing places that are free of the usual tourist! I had rented from here a few years ago, but this time was different as you now get a 30 min in-depth induction on how to be a good captain 😂🫡. Very fun experience.

The best day... staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The briefing on how the boats worked, where everything was, was not only comprehensive but adapted for the non mariner and those with power boating experience. I have to say this is a golden little find and made our holiday. The coves and areas Sofia told us about were spectacular. I didn't want the day to end. Thank you to you all for the best day.

We had 30hp boat without license. The boat was in good condition and the introduction was very detailed and good. I would recommend the company for rent, but the area does not offer to much to see. Most of the coast is only rocks. There are few spots to see, but other areas are better for boating in my opinion, like Elonda bay which we did last year.
