(Translated by Google) We visited it with my family, good service at reception, we only did the short self-guided trails (of which there are two), very well marked and easy to navigate. Both the cafeteria and the bathrooms in that part were not open, which complicated their use since they were only available at the entrance to the park, which is 6km from the parking lot. It is a beautiful place and we wanted to take the guided tour to the traces of the past but there was a lot of wind and the guide told us that perhaps small children would not have a good time, so we took his advice. And that speaks well of them that they charge to make that journey.
(Original)

(Translated by Google) On Saturday, April 22, we went to take a guided tour and buy products since we were staying in the area. We made a large purchase for the family and we were surprised that when we arrived in Buenos Aires and opened a container of double 0 olives with the current date, half of the container of green olives were crushed, pasty, excessively salty. When we mentioned it to Olium via message, they told us that they do not produce them and they were going to tell the external producer so that he could look into the issue. They opened a container and confirmed that they found an olive in the same condition as the ones I told them about and that they had no problem with me returning it and they would refund my money. I think that with this response and knowing that we were basic, we felt that they ignored us in order to send us the replacement of the 5 jars of premium olives that we bought from them, even more so where we spent close to 100 thousand pesos on products. Commercially I give them the thumbs down and even more so when I found out that they washed their hands of this and blamed the producer from whom they buy the olives. This does not happen to me with the olives that I buy both in Catamarca and in La Rioja. Only when they resolve the issue will I see if I can improve the score.

Amazing place. It's like 100 museums in one, they have an extensive collection of 60000 different objects, most of them not pieces of art, but simple objects of any type from 1820 to approximately 2000, and if you're over 30 it will surely trigger many memories of your own past.
There are also geological, biological, anatomic exhibits, it's definitely a very interesting place and it's worth a visit.

This was one of my favourite spots in Nono, this place is plenty of old stuff but even that, it’s still gorgeous and interesting, each step you take is worthwhile, there are descriptions of everything to help you to be aware what is in front of you and understand what was its purpose in those times. This museum isn’t far from the Central Park in Nono, it’s almost 10 minutes in car. I recommend to visit this place for sure. You’ll love it even if you don’t like museums, this is really different than the ordinary museums.

Sarmiento 655, San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, Catamarca, Argentina
The Bicentennial Cultural Center is an impressive modern space that houses three museums featuring ancient artifacts, devotional objects and a remarkable art collection. The anthropological collection stands out with its diverse display of indigenous ceramics, jewelry and flutes. Additionally, visitors can be awed by the fascinating fossils of extinct creatures such as mastodons and glyptodonts. The historical museum is set around a beautiful patio in one of Santiago's most elegant buildings, providing insights into Argentina's independence movement.
This is probably the best museum I visited in the northern interior. Very nice collection and well displayed. The building is gorgeous, as is the plaza across the street.

The museum should be bigger considering it has 5 or 6 floors but only two are available for tourist visits. Also all the activities after you pay the entrance fee should be already included and they aren't. Although the price 150$(pesos) isn't expensive, not even for Argentinian people or for International tourists.
It's alright. There isn't much else to see around so you might as well check it out. I got a nice guide who was very knowledgeable who made the small tour around these ancient carved rocks sound quite interesting.

It is one of the most emblematic buildings in the history and culture of Argentina. Although throughout its long history it has undergone many modifications, and one could say that little remains of its original construction, this does not take away its historical and symbolic value. It is recommended to visit it with the guided tours and the night show, which offers a historical overview of the independence struggle. This show lasts approximately half an hour and it is necessary to register in a list. Entrance is free.

This museum is dedicated to Mother Earth or Pachamama in northern Argentina, Bolivia and Peru. It features interesting statues of shamans and indigenous motifs on the pretty stone walls around the complex. There are also exhibitions dedicated to natural sciences and the arts. The museum is worth seeing if you're ever in the area, especially if you're interested in traditional indigenous cultures.
this museum is worth any travel! Must see once in Your life what this artist has created in person. Excellent presentation how the indios lived and in any case ask to see his huge paintings in the last building. You will never forget

The Quilmes Ruins archaeological museum is a new and well-done museum displaying artifacts from the ancient Quilmes people. The ruins are truly impressive and the whole scenery is spectacular. It would take roughly an hour to walk around them and the museum itself is worth the visit.
We were not sure whether this was worth the drive from Cafayate - but yes it absolutely is! The museum is new, very well done and informative. The ruins are truly impressive and the whole scenery is spectacular. I would plan around 45min-1h for the museum (incl short video) and 30-45min to walk around the ruins.
Dalia — Google review
Truly amazing archaeological site where you can walk around the ruins of an huge ancient pre-Incan citadel and sacred city that was built by the Quilmes native population about one thousand years before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors. The city was abandoned in the year 1665 after the Quilmes were defeated by the Spanish (and forcibly marched over 1400 Km away) and re-discovered only in the late 1800s. A small museum at the entrance contains some beautiful artifacts (mostly pottery) and shows a touching movie with the history of the place and the Quilmes population, setting the stage for your visit. You can visit with a guide or on your own. It is a most interesting, unique and moving experience. Highly recommended.

Incredible Native American museum and ruins! The museum is small but first class, very instructive and the showings are well done. On the outside, the ample ruins can be visited on foot and are very impressive, specially as seen from the highest points in the trail. Actually, if you have enough stamina, you can climb the center/left trail and then cross over to the one in the right; just be aware that some of the trail's highest parts aren't in top condition and could be dangerous (it's a *long* fall) so please be careful and exercise common sense at all times.

This was such an amazing little find, we just came across it, and decided to go there because somebody had told us about it. It’s a Ruins of an indigenous old Quilme town, which at its height, they believe had at least 6000 inhabitants. There’s a fantastic interpretive centre there with very knowledgable staff that showed us around and explained the history of the area. This entire valley has had villages of different tribes in it throughout the centuries. This one is from about 800 BC if I remember correctly, the entire Ruins has the most amazing barrel cactuses that I have ever seen outside of Arizona and Baja.

Great opportunity for a about 2 mile hike up into the hills after you seen the main ruins. The museum was interesting with pottery and burial urns. The film had English subtitles, other exhibits had little English explanations. Most notably Messi winning the World Cup was recorded in the timeline of history!

Highly recommend a visit to Quilmes if in the Cafayate region. Tremendous ruch history about a very brave people who defended their land and freedoms against colonialization for well over 100 years.

Great place to visit. Our guide, David, was great at telling the stories of his ancestors. The museum is small, but very interesting. Great value.
Impressive views during the hike through the ruins.
Beautiful but not the easiest short hike! There are guides from the local territory waiting in the front. I would recommend taking a guide unless you are very adventurous & *very* comfortable in nature.
I am in my mid-twenties, not super adventurous when it comes to hiking and my health/sport level is normal - I would not have been able to go without a guide.
You can do the short circuit of 3 waterfalls. This takes about 1h30 and cost $1000 per person (2022). The full circuit takes you to the 7 waterfalls for $2000 per person. You can tell the guide you want to do the short circuit and then decide if you want to continue to the longer one later.
We did the short circuit which was very beautiful. You can also swim if you want.
Our guide Wilson was very friendly and nice. He even lent me his jacket when we were walking through the path.
You need to have good fitness and good shoes. You have to cross some small rivers and climb some rocks at times. The walk is beautiful, but not recommended for children or elderly.
Dalia — Google review
Nice, beautiful canyon with some underwhelming waterfalls. Could be missed tough as there are more spectaculair sights in this part of Argentina. It involves lots of climbing, but not too difficult. The local community demands that you hire a guide to visit. There are two options: 1 hour return hike to the first 3 (very small) waterfalls ($1000 per person) or a 3,5 hour return hike to all 7 waterfalls ($2000 per person). We took the 1 hour hike, but at the 3rd waterfall we were given the opportunity to continue independently, which we did for another half hour. We found that it is not difficult without a guide, as you can't loose you way in the canyon, but it took us more time to find the right way to continue up and down the canyon (e.g. where to climb up safely, where to cross the river)!so a guide is useful.
Marc F — Google review
It’s a pretty hike but your have to pay 2500$ for the short hike and 4500$ for the long hike per person. There is even a policeman that will check if you have a guide. The hike would be doable on your own if you have some experience hiking. I don’t like being forced to have a guide, and it’s pretty but a bit underwhelming. The waterfalls are relatively small.
Dorian Henning — Google review
You do NOT need a guide. The guides will try to tell you that you do, but we parked around to the right where there was a school and two police officers. The police confirmed that there is no permit. As soon as I told the fake guides that the cops said I didn't need them, they left me alone.
This hike is beautiful, but hard. I hike all over the world and this route is poorly marked with slippery rocks. It was a ton of fun and we loved it, but you need to be an adventurer. Otherwise, pay the 1000 pesos for a guide. That said, I highly recommend this hike!
Ethan Evans — Google review
We wanted to do a hike here before going to Finca las Nubes. Arriving at the parking spot it was explained that it is mandatory to take a guide due to “safety reasons”. They charge an rather excessive amount of money (2500 for 1.5hrs or 4500 for 3.5hrs) for a hike you can probably do yourself. I survived a lot hikes in the Andes, so I think I’ll survive this hike as well. We just walked back, crossed the river and walked to the other side of the river to the first quite underwhelming waterfall. Mountain views are stunning and you’ll pass a small bodega too
Pascal Visser — Google review
Worth it. The waterfalls are big. Do all 7. They were charging $10,000 pp when we went and it would have been impossible without the guide who was very sweet.
ashley mueller — Google review
An amazing place and great walk. Some local guides are waiting for tourists and saying it is "mandatory" to have a guide. Fake news. And quiet expensive (5€ for an hour).
But having an offline map and a good intuition of "where to cross the river and which way to go" is better.
Julien Hendrix — Google review
Really a shame that when we arrived we were asked to pay 5000 pesos to enter with a guide, and not permitted without… because you might get lost, well if you put up a few signs there wouldn’t be that problem…
Kat Puchowska — Google review
We were very excited to visit the place. Unfortunately we were not allowed to walk the trail by ourselves. We were asked quite aggressively to get a guide and pay 2500 Pesos to visit 3/7 water falls or 4500 Pesos to see all 7. Prices were per person! A police officer was also present. Upon question he told us, that we had to discuss the matter with the present person for the municipality. She just told us that these were the “new” rules. It all felt quite sketchy, but we ended up paying for a guide. The route involves climbing but the path is visible and doable.
Emil Grothgar — Google review
Awesome walk, would suggest the large loop if you have good fitness. Is a great landscape with some fun rock scrambling. $4500 pp for a guide, easily accessible by taxi from town $1200. Head to the vineyard next door for lunch after a fun morning.
Jackson Clark — Google review
Currently you need to have a guide to hike the trail to the waterfalls. Guides are at the entrance offering to guide you for $10,000 pesos per person.
There was a police car there when we were there and we checked with them and it is a legitimate charge due to the trail being dangerous at the moment. We decided not to do it for that cost as there are other trails
Will Batt — Google review
YOU DO NOT NEED TO GET A A$4500 GUIDE. IT IS NOT A GOVERNMENT REQUIREMENT. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR FAKE PAPERWORK AND FACEBOOK PAGE.
Simply bypass them and walk through the campsite entrance.
Carl Mendes — Google review
Amazing hike with stunning views and a tough path if you do the full hike. There are only 4 waterfalls at the moment as there was heavy rockfall which is blocking 3 waterfalls, this also made the path tougher due to rock blockages, and there was a good bit of rock climbing.
Taking away 2 stars due to the aggressive guides at the start that insist you need a guide which is 6000 per person. We negotiated this down to 4000 for 4 people but then during the hike the guide said he would not bring us to the last and biggest waterfall unless we paid the full price. It would have been very difficult to do the hike without a guide but their aggressive attitude is very unnecessary.
Laura Walsh — Google review
We loved the trek to the 7 waterfalls last week and would recommend this for the more adventurous.
We paid 10000 argentinian pesos for entry and a spanish speaking guide from the local community (roughly 10 usd per person) and think it was well worth what we paid. We dont think we would have been able to figure out the best route without one.
Our guide was friendly and knowledgable, he spoke slowly and clearly so that we could understand him with our limited spanish.
Once you pass the fourth waterfall some minor rock climbing is involved. Our guide helped us as needed with the rocks and river crossings.
Jason Botherway — Google review
Unofficial guides meet you at the entrance & are quite aggressive not allowing you to enter the park without a guide. We completed the 7 waterfall tour and it was challenging, there was recent rock fall in the area making it more difficult. Although the guides are unofficial and charging an entry fee of ~6,000 pesos per person, I’d highly recommend a guide.

Housed in an old wine cellar, it provides a low-cost bilingual tour for visitors to learn about the character and history of these unique wines.
Great start for your time in Cafayate. You'll find a detailed script along the self-guided visit, with an English version on the side. The cost for nationals is around a dollar, while a dollar & a half for foreign visitors. There's a wine bar in the premises, of course. From here, you'll make the most of your wine tasting in the area and I believe you'll also judge your purchases as a connoisseur.

Very detailed and poetic descriptions of winemaking in this part of Argentina. They take a lot of pride in their winemaking process, rightfully so because the wines here are incredible! After the interactive museum (which is very high tech!), please relax and have a drink and snack at the bar. Empanadas are divine and the employees are wonderful, very personable and cheerful, and happy to have people here. We felt very welcome, even if we were strangely ordering food, wine and coffee at 17h 😂 (still on American time with our meals and everywhere else was closed haha). Overall learned so much more about the winemaking process, unique terrain in the north of Argentina. Muchisimas gracias!

We have visited many wine museums around the world, and this one stands out. Very detailed description of everything surrounding the vines and the wines, especially liked the discussion around atmospheric conditions in the region, and the impact on water quality the soil. Highly recommended.

Amazing empanadas made on the spot (dough included) and cooked on a wood oven. Incredible wine serbed by people who know about wine. Great prices.
Alexandros A — Google review
Exceeded my expectations, though they were low for a small-town museum. It actually had good audio-video presentations as well as atmospheric sounds and lighting effects. I learned quite a few things about the region through sheer repetition and hammering through a few peculiar facts about this superb wine valley.
Keven Arsenault — Google review
Very well thought out self-guide museum with information about the local wine and the history of the region. At the end there is an excellent shop featuring a huge selection of wines from several well known area Bodegas, and very reasonably priced too! You don't need to pay the 60 pesos entry fee (cheap!) just to visit the wine store. A few minutes walk from the main square.
Chris Rose — Google review
The first part is ok, not super interesting, but visually interesting. The second part telling the origin of wine in the area is much more interesting. A somewhat sterile exhibition overall, you can do it if you have extra time.

Cafayate Square, also known as Plaza 20 de Febrero, is a popular gathering place for both locals and visitors in the heart of Cafayate. Surrounded by well-kept greenery and a variety of dining and shopping options, it's an iconic spot to enjoy the city's charm. The square is flanked by the charming Church on one side and offers a peaceful atmosphere for relaxation.
Beautiful park.
Is the central spot in town. Around it, you can find the Church, many restaurant options, and the handcrafted spot, and you can try the wine ice cream too!
Highly recommend to take your book, your sandwich, and enjoy the view and peaceful silence.

Clean park but not happy with the city parking staff. We parked to enjoy the afternoon and approached by a parking attendant which sold us a parking permit. We then got approached 1 hour later and told that the permit that we bought was sold to us by a bandito that was dressed in exact same attire and had a official receipt/permit book but not employed by the town to do so. They wanted us to either buy again (even though ours was an official one) or get towed by police. Not a great practice from this community. The police showed up and said they would get our money back because they know who the person is but they never did. Now I’m not sure who the real bandito’s are.

Picturesque colored rock formations embedded with marine fossils, plus a natural amphitheater.
Wow, whst an absolute treat this adventure was. We rented a camper van in Córdoba and travelled all through this area. Stunning views around every corner. You really feel like you should be out on a horse, herding llamas while keeping an eye out for armadillos, iguanas and wild foxes, all of which we saw here. The colours and hues change through the the days and sunsets and sunrises are truly spectacular sights. Lots of stops along the way to check out canyons, vistas, caves, natural amphitheatres, etc. Roads are quite good although you do have to get used to windy mountain driving. Much more influence of indigenous people in this area. Different foods too.

And I thought southwest USA was unique! Northwest Argentina in general, and this Quebrada in particular, are just as spectacular, colorful and breathtaking. I so wish I had devoted more time to explore it. Do yourself a favor and spend time here. If you're pressed for time, you can skip the Garganta del Diablo and El anfiteatro, way too touristy, and go backcountry. I recommend spending at least 3 days here.

Amazing! Gorgeous! A must if you are traveling to northern Argentina. It is a geological structure where you are in the middle of a rock formation modified by the elements and besides that it’s just a few meters from the road, you have a parking lot and it’s free. Inside you can find some artisan selling things and you might find people playing some music taking advantage of the natural acoustic. 100% recommended
Ruben Peraza — Google review
The Amphitheatre is another nice presentation what nature can do. It's located just few hundred meters away from more popular Gargante del Diablo which we visited couple minutes before, so we stayed here less then there. Plus here were more people, so to be honest I liked Gargante more. If you are with younger kids then maybe this is better place for them to see stunning red rocks which were formed millions years ago in the past. Entrance is free...

For being so close to the road, this is an amazing spot to stop the car -- GO check out it out. The natural occurrences of wind and water have made this spot what it is -- a "chiminea" or chimney. A term I discovered when visiting Talamapaya National Park.
The local vendors line the pathway to the center and if you're lucky, there's a flutist playing a tune.
Sammm nextdoor — Google review
Amazing formation. The road inside is pretty straightforward so there are no weird climbs. Elderly or people with kids can easily enjoy the inside to it's fullest.
Carlos Samaniego — Google review
Impressive scale and curvature of this rock formation. The flute players music reverberated well and without an echo (felt this was "cherry on top" kind of thing as we walked up to the final part to take a photo).
Talk to the local vendors. We stopped and chatted in particular with one girl who sells earrings there. Her mom makes them by hand, even incorporating the metal part of the earring in some designs. I ended up buying a pair for $2,000 pesos or $7 USD (these could easily have been $25+ anywhere in the USA).

I recommend that you take slippers because in the devil's throat there is a wall to climb of approximately 3.5 meters and take pictures without people in the background, like the published photos, it is not difficult as long as you have slippers that are not smooth below.

Gargante Del Diablo is a canyon, little bit hidden away from main road. This is formation de la Quebrada de las Conchas.
Be careful here not to get injured on dusty slippery rocks. Its easier to climb on, then to go back down. Use common sense in this place.

A cool place to visit. Better to go with good shoes as you have to climb the rock to get in. It is for free. They say cheese bread in front. Lots of parking space. Just the sign in the main road is last minute so don't drive fast

When there is no tourist around, and you climb up to all the way it is magical, the flowing stones, dark red, narrow mouth of an open cave make one wonder, how this came to be?
Kadi Tombak — Google review
Beautiful rock formation. It's a popular tourist attraction so getting that "perfect shot" can be quite difficult because how many people visit the place during the day. You can go further inside after climbing a very sloping and slide-like rock wall.
Carlos Samaniego — Google review
5 stars and it is only comparable to the nearby amphitheater. You can get easily in your road from Salta to Cafayate. There is a parking lot and you don’t need to pay entrance fee. From every angle is an amazing place. If you feel ready you can climb a little to avoid the crowded area.
Ruben Peraza — Google review
This place is probably what the part of the move "Inception" was inspired by because when you see this it's literally like reality has defied gravity and is shifting.
You must absolutely hike to the finish, which means taking a good 10 minutes with a friend to climb up. Watch those that go before you and be safe. The sign that says "NO CLIMBING" and in smaller letters "with FLIP FLOPS." This is for a reason: there's some spots where you only have small ledges to climb up or down on.
SPECIAL NOTE: We were told by a gentlemen that there is a cave on the right hand side (which we didn't see but we also didn't look further than where we landed). He said inside the cave looks cool but it's nothing crazy beautiful. Decide on your own if you want to see it.

Cuesta del Obispo is a winding and gravelly wilderness path that stretches from the Escoipe gorge to the Piedra del Molino. The route offers breathtaking panoramic views, reaching heights of 4,000 meters above sea level. It is an intricately curved path and against a curve you reach 3300 meters above sea level. We did it from Salta going to Cachi, passing through Los Cardones National Park, there are 20km of dirt road, in fairly good condition, if you are afraid or have never driven on gravel and height, go slowly, calmly, taking care of the vehicle, minimizing risks and also you can go appreciating the road with its landscapes!
It was first called Cuesta de la dormida del Obispo because in 1622 Monsignor Julián de Cortázar (third bishop of the diocese of Tucumán) was traveling from the city of Salta to Cachi and had to spend the night uncomfortably halfway up the slope. Later and with time the name was simplified to how it is known today: Cuesta del Obispo.

Then you have a dirt road and once you reach the Piedra del Molino (top), pavement again. You can do it on the road by bike, motorcycle, car, truck, etc. Recommendations to take into account:
1) Upstairs it is usually a totally different climate than down below. It may be foggy and low in temperature. Always wear a coat.
2) There is no sign anywhere above.
3) if you go at night along the Obispo slope, it is likely that you will be foggy and you can't see anything. It helped me to drive with GPS (download offline maps before).
4) As an intermediate stop I suggest the Maray Church, there are bathrooms and some very good picnic areas under willows for a comfortable stop.
5) The fuel issue ⛽ you can load in El Carril (it is on the route) or in Chicoana (entering the town).
