A very beautiful place to trek, Puja and Love.
The Coronation Bridge was constructed in 1937-41 to honour the coronation of King George-VI and Queen Elizabeth. Designed by PWD Darjeeling, John Chambers. Constructed by Gammon India.
The bridge has a steel arch design, its deck is built of steel girders and its arches are supported by concrete piers.
There are two lanes on the bridge, and both vehicles and pedestrians can use them. It serves as a crucial connection between Siliguri and Darjeeling and the rest of India’s northeastern states.
The Coronation Bridge is a popular tourist destination that provides a stunning view of the Teesta River and the hills in the area.
A number of food and gift stalls are situated close to the bridge, giving visitors a chance to sample regional cuisine and purchase souvenirs.

mesmerizing engineering marvel that spans across the Teesta River in India. Its graceful arches and sturdy structure make for a picturesque sight. The bridge not only connects two regions but also connects people with its beauty. Standing on it, you can witness the breathtaking views of the river and surrounding landscapes. A must-visit for its architectural brilliance and scenic charm.

One of the most beautiful and picturesque places in Jalpaiguri district to visit if you are looking for a peaceful and picturesque spot where you can relax and take your time to enjoy the beauty of nature. This hidden gem in the mountains and valleys of West Bengal offers stunning views for miles in every direction. The bridge is an impressive piece of engineering and the viewpoint itself is a great spot for taking photos and admiring the views from various angles. The bridge is a fun and interesting structure to walk across, and there are benches for you to sit and enjoy the view. Most of the time, there is not much traffic in the area. If you are ever visiting West Bengal, you should definitely visit this place. The views are simply stunning and you will not want to miss this place.

This is the heritage forest of Lolegaon and a paradise for nature lovers. But the hanging bridge should have been maintained and even the road to the bridge should have been. Very few people come here to visit this place. One should be very aware of leeches in this area and be cautious at every moment.
Overall, it's a great place to visit, just should be maintained a little.

A serene jungle and you. Peace. What more can you want? Though the Canopy Bridge Walk is now broken and shut down. It will be dismantled and road will be made. You can just take a stroll in the forest. It will be rewarding.
Arnab Pal — Google review
This is an abandoned place. I wonder why. There is just Google maps location and a small sign board on the road that is remaining. No people around. Even the ticket counter and the toilet which was constructed earlier for tourists lay in shambles. However the trail is still present. We walked for a couple of minutes but the extreme desertness of the location freaked us to move ahead. If you come with a group of people and you are the daring type, please follow the trail. The hanging bridge maybe in ruins but the walk is definitely worth the hike for the adventure lover inside you.

A very nice place .... now destroyed.
And Authority is still in deep sleep mode.
Today Lolegaon is attraction less tourist place
Alok Das — Google review
The location is awesome. Just 3-4 minutes walk from main road and around 10 minutes walk from the main market. But the condition of the bridge is pathetic. One side of the bridge is broken. Also it is too risky to walk on the canopy. It can break down any time. Shame on the authority to destroy such a nice place.
Najmus Sayadat — Google review
Ideal place for nature lovers. The hanging bridge is in the middle of a forest. One must walk through a path shadowed by enormous trees & decorated by small arch bridges to reach the canopy walk. The environment is very peaceful. The usual silence of the forest is occasionally interrupted by chirping birds & rustling leaves of the trees.
Only 5 people can walk on the bridge at a time & it is one way. There's a small stall beside the entrance of the bridge that serves delicious
Momos.

It's an abandoned place but still a nice place to chill out.
I saw local people come to the place for a picnic and they left all their garbage and plastic bottles behind.
Hill people, if u don't keep ur own area clean, how do u expect "tourists and outsiders" to maintain cleanliness??
Utsa Choudhury — Google review
Lack of maintenance has ruined this place but still the canopy hanging bridge is a great spot.
Hope one day, the Government of Forest and Tourism will think about reopening this iconic spot of Lolegaon and improve it's tourism again.

A beautiful monastery stands tall as the main attraction at Lava with its heritage, history and might. One can visit to experience the blissful environment here and witness some of Buddhism's charm. Tourists should keep the sanctity of the place and maintain silence, which unfortunately is something quite difficult for most of the uncouth tourists. Keeping their shoes outside at designated spots, keeping quiet, keeping the rights of walk clear while taking photos should be basic sense that should be followed here, which most tourists ignore woefully. There is a small merchandise shop downstairs at cheap prices also

At a distance of 500 m from Lava Jeep Stand, Kagyu Thekchen Ling Monastery is a Buddhist monastery situated in the picturesque Himalayan hamlet of Lava in West Bengal. Popularly called as Lava Monastery, it is one of the top places to visit in Lava. Built in Tibetan style of architecture, the monastery has various prayer halls, lawns, sitting areas and a huge Buddha statue.
One can see the monks are occupied in rigorous study of Buddhist literatures and meditation.
Imagine you are contemplating your own self, and you see clouds sailing by in front of you, touching the pillars, the rose bushes of the monastery, around you 😌. A gentle sunshine filtered through the mist of the cloud beating on the ground below😌. And then the temple bells ringing at a regular interval. You feel one with the divine, the greater You that resides within. Such is this place. You don't feel like talking for the sound may disturb the serenity that loving envelopes everyone around. This is surely not for tourists with small kids - I saw kids running around, breaking the marvelous stillness of the place, whose parents did nothing to train them how to behave in a place like this.😌

Commonly known as Lava Monastery, the place of worship offers breathtaking view of mountains and valley as well.
From roadside parking outside the gate there’s a short but slightly steep path leading to the monastery building.
There’s a small souvenir shop in the compound, which has quite a good variety of items.
Few outlets just outside the gate has fair snacks and meal options too.

The monastery is very well maintained and gives some great views of both Lava town as well as the mountain. The place was slightly overcrowded even on a weekday most probably because of summer holidays in schools. Beautiful flowers can be seen on the sides of the stairs to reach the temple level.

Lava Monastery or Kagyu Thekchen ling monastery is situated in a small village called lava in West Bengal. In 1987 the Buddhist community present there offered 3 acres of land to the 3rd Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche for building a monastery for the local community of lava.
Earlier the place started out with only a handful of monks but with the passage of time the numbers kept increasing. Presently it accommodates over 110 monks.
The building is made using brick and concrete, having a bright and colorful appearance. The surrounding areas are covered with the historic forest of Neora Valley, shrouded with thick mist for most part of the year.
Inside, monks can been seen occupied in rigorous study of Buddhist literatures and meditation. The monastery is well maintained and one can get a clear view of the enchanting forest. With the ambiance of pure calmness and the chirping of birds nearby, the beauty of this location is simply unmatched.
Lava is 32 kms from Kalimpong town. The closest railway station is NJP at a distance of 120kms. Taxis and _shared jeeps are easily available there which takes about three 3.5 hours to reach lava. Bagdogra is the nearest airport.

The peaceful environment is truly rejuvenating, allowing visitors to unwind and reconnect with nature.
Ost commendable aspects of the Monesty is its policy of free entry for all, making it accessible to everyone seeking solace and spiritual enrichment. Whether you're a devout follower or simply in search of a quiet sanctuary, the Monesty warmly welcomes all who seek refuge within its walls.
I spent several hours there, meditating and reflecting, and left feeling profoundly refreshed and uplifted. The beauty of the Monesty lies not only in its physical surroundings but also in the sense of serenity and tranquility it imparts to all who visit.
In summary, I highly recommend the Monesty to anyone seeking a peaceful escape amidst nature's splendor. With its stunning location, serene atmosphere, and inclusive ethos, it truly deserves a five-star rating.

Lava monastery also known as Ratnarishi Bihar Buddhist Gumpa is located in Lava, Kalimpong district. Approx 32 kms far from Kalimpong town, who will find this place very peaceful. Temperature is almost cold and pleasant always the whole year . By train you can reach to New jalpaiguri rail station, and from there you can hire a cab to reach the spot. Nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport. Small shop is Inside the gumpa , from there you can buy gifts for your close ones too.

Nathula pass, situated on the ancient Silk Road, linked Sikkim to China's Tibet autonomous region. It is one of India's highest motorable roads that provides a scenic view of the Indo-Chinese border. The meaning of Nathu La is listening ears and pass respectively. However, taking pictures on the actual border is strictly prohibited and can lead to military action being taken against you.
Nathula pass is Indo-China border area about 60 odd kms/ 2 hours drive from Gangtok. Situated at eastern part of Sikkim. This place is very beautiful and scenic, you get to see top view of Sikkim. China border is just barb wire away. Weather gets extremely cold in winter, mostly sub zero degrees. High security area, so you need to take a permit prior to the visit. Photography is not allowed at the border region due to security reasons.

The natural view you will feel is a very good experience on the way.. and the clouds over the char dham temple will give you a kailash parvat feel. Inside the main temple there are a lot of sculptures of God Shiv about their marriage and all. You will feel very positive here ..

Visiting Nathula pass is an experience in itself.
Visited here with family in January first week. My younger daughter started having breathing. I too got breathing issues when I quickly ran on the stairs after 14000 feet.
You need to be really careful with high as altitude.. Do not exert too much too fast.. Take it easy and keep yourself covered in cold weather.
You have to register online with Sikkim Govt and get travel card and find a travel agent to do the rest of the approvals one day in advance.
Once on the top you can see China post.. If the weather is good you can even see China army personnel on the other side.

Nathula pass is india china border and the security is very strict around. only few vehicles are allowed per day on pay basis. They charge 4k per vehicle, we can go to the top which is the highest point and luckily we had snow fall during our visit. we can view the office where both indian and chinese military officials sit and discuss. It is a beautiful experience give a try.

This is the highest altitude, I have ever been to, 14,140 feet, almost half the height of Mount Everest. The experience at Nathu-La Pass through which the old silk route went across China is absolutely incredible.
An emotional swing of patriotism, because it's a border with China and ecstasy, knowing you are witnessing a place seeped in historical relevance.

Nathula pass is located in the old silk route, connecting Sikkim to China's Tibet autonomous region. It's one of the highest motorable roads in India.
Nathu means listening ears and La means Pass.
Quite literally you can see the indo-chinese border and feel the thrills.
Taking photos on the actual border is strictly prohibited with actionable steps taken from military.
Make sure to get the certificate from here at a nominal price.
A valid permit is required to visit this pass and only given to Indian Nationals, so do carry a Valid ID Proof and 2 photos. No worries if you don't have photos, there are plenty photo booths peppered across Gangtok Mall road for exact same purpose.

Visiting Natula Pass, located on the India-China border in Sikkim, was an unforgettable experience. Despite the chilly temperatures in March, the journey was incredibly pleasant.
The road leading to Natula Pass was not only scenic but also well-maintained, making the drive enjoyable. Along the way, I encountered friendly locals who were supportive and willing to share insights about the region. Their warmth added to the overall charm of the trip.
As I reached the pass itself, the cold was quite intense, a reminder of the high-altitude location. But it was also a thrilling sensation, being at the border of two powerful nations. The serene beauty of the snow-covered landscape, coupled with the unique blend of cultures in this area, left a lasting impression.
Overall, my visit to Natula Pass was a memorable adventure, offering a glimpse into the natural beauty and geopolitical significance of this remote border region in India's northeastern state of Sikkim.

Amazing place with a peaceful atmosphere. Temperaure is generally lower than 0 degrees. It has parking space and has a toilet. There is a small snacks corner nearby which serves very limited food, mainly maggi and sandwich. You can find snow here, gloves recommended. Also the elevation makes it difficult to breathe for certain people so plan accordindly.

This is not a temple of God but an extraordinary soldier who had taken a pledge to serve the country even after his death. Yes, this temple is build in respect of soldier who passed away years back but still stayed on army rolls till he retired. After he died and his body was not found for days due to snow all around, he came into dream of his fellow soldier and told whereabouts of his body. From that day onwards he comes into dreams of soldier and tells about preparedness and mischief of neighbouring enemy china. He kept on receiving all dues from army till his retirement age even after his death. People come here with great faith. One to to respect this faith and appreciate the vibrant culture from which we all belong. The temple is fully managed by Army.

As one lands at this location one hears very invigorating songs expressing ones love for the nation,. The shrine itslef is very well kept and manged by the Indian Armed forces. As you enter one is overwhelmed by the divinity that surrounds the memorial.
I was surprised when I first heard the story behind this place. It's up to you to believe it or not, but the fact remains that it has become a famous tourist spot. This is close to Nathula Pass and after visiting Nathula pass, your tourist guide will take you to this place. The story goes like this, Harbhajan Singh was an Indian Army Jawan, who was patrolling the border and carrying his duty. One day he dies while he was performing his duty, but people notice that his room, his bed all are soiled / being used by someone even after his death. The belief is that he is still visiting this place and guarding the border. So, the locals have built a temple like thing around his living room with his artifacts. Everyone visit this place to pay homage to this great soul.

We started our journey from Madarihat which is around 100 km away from Samsing/Suntalikhola. We were five persons in the group. One of the main attractions was beautiful tea gardens both the sides in our way to. Samsing. At Suntalikhola you have to take the local car from the spot for the sightscene. They charge you Rs 400 for almost nothing. So we dropped the plan and decided to travel by walk. First we went to hanging bridge. Then started to trek few km up towards muchaki army camp. There is a nice spot to take a look to the beautiful villages in this route. Foods are overpriced, you will find few local restaurants at Suntalikhola stand.

Gorumara National Park is a vast floodplain and forest national park that covers an expansive area of almost 50 square miles. The park houses diverse wildlife, including rhinos, elephants, and leopards. For visitors looking to explore the park, it's recommended to opt for a jungle safari rather than a watch tower Safari. The best time for a jungle safari is during morning slots when chances of spotting an elephant are particularly high.
It's a bliss...endless stretch of greenery and the fresh air. The safari is a must-try here and one of the main attractions. There are 3 timings for safari: 6am,9am and 2pm. The early morning 6am slot timing is the best for safari. Tickets prices are: Rs.450 per head including a guide, plus another Rs.150 per vehicle entry fee. Each vehicle(top open gypsy jeeps) takes 4 passengers + 1 guide + 1 driver. You need to stand in line to get tickets and don't forget to take a xerox of your Aadhar card/other govt. id. There is a huge rush, so reach way before the timing and get a spot in the line(they have about 20 vehicles going per slot). The ticket counter is about 1km from Lake View Resort towards the market. Even if spotting a few animals here depends on luck, missing the wild experience would be a big mistake. There are 25 different kinds of orchids found here apart from many other trees worth watching. Amidst the forests, there are 2 tribal villages here. The roads running through the dense green forest on either side and the never-ending flow of cold breeze is perfect for any nature lover. It purifies your soul. A must-visit place for anyone willing to get a blend of little altitude, forest, small rivers and quiet, peaceful surroundings in the lap of nature.

It truly feels like stepping into a dreamful spot where nature's wonders unfold before your eyes. An amazing experience that left me in awe of the beauty of our natural world!

Gorumara National Park is one of the most dense forests of West Bengal. Sometimes I felt it denser than Jaldapara. It’s a big forest with a huge variety of wild animals and a number of plants. The main attraction of Gorumara National Park is the Jeep Safari from NIC Lataguri to Jatraprasad Watch Tower. The best timing for the Jeep Safari is 3:30 PM to 5 PM because this time there is much possibility to find wild animals especially Elephant, Peacocks and Deers. The Rhino is also a main attraction of this place. In the evening time you can feel the silence of deep forest which can’t be felt in the morning or afternoon. Online booking is available at West Bengal Forest Department Website. You can book the Safari online and enjoy the wildlife beauty.

Lovely place to visit with friends and family during weekends. This park has safari timings at both morning and evening for very less number of tourists. Therefore, getting a chance to have safari inside the jungle is really wonderful experience.

There are six national parks in West Bengal & if I have to take 2 names. Then 1 is Gorumara National Park & another one is Jaldapara National Park. You can see wild rhino, elephant, bison, sambar deer, peacock here. Take the jungle safari (car safari), that's one of the best attraction here. After car safari you can enjoy local tribal dance. Forest is maintained, hats off to those forest officers & staff whe are deployed here.

Jaldapara national park is famous for rhinos, elephants and bisons. You have to buy tickets @187/- per head and can avail jeep safari, elephant safari at per the cost mentioned. Animals are rarely seen. Best time to watch these animals here inbetween March and may. Early morning safari or afternoon safaris are better to try.

Very nice place for one day trip from coochbehar or Siliguri. If you want to stay in the forest you have to book the government banglow in very advance. You also can take jungle safari. This national park is famous for one horned rhino . You also can enjoy elephant safari.

Beautiful place to visit and spend time with nature. Jungle has lots of wild fauna and it will keep you interested, one has to be lucky to sight leopard although they are quite in numbers. One can sight lots of spotted deers, sambar, rhinos, peacocks, elephant, hornbill etc. But without a rhino sighting it is incomplete. Get your cameras to the safaris. Carry face covering masks, shades, cap or wrap around as red soil will ensure you get a good covering from it. Overall a great outing!!!
And please keep your mobile phones silent mode at the time of safari, it will gives you more peaceful safari.
Thank you..... 🙏

Jaldapara National Park is located in West Bengal, India. Known for its diverse flora and fauna, it's home to the Indian one-horned rhinoceros, elephants, and various bird species. The park offers safari experiences, providing a chance to observe wildlife in their natural habitat.

Costs -1200/- (excluding vehicle charge)per head for an elephant ride for 1 hour(actually 35-40mins).
1200 /- includes guide charges i.e. Rs350/-
Guides are pathetic. Hardly explains about the flora fauna or ecology of the national park.
The ticket counter is 7km from the elephant riding point(from where the ride begins) and for that part only ,the guide is available (not the entire trip).
The route from the ticket counter to elephant point of 7km carries an additional charge of Rs800/- if you have brought your own vehicle. If not, they provide a jeep but costs even more.
Scenery -
The park is famous for One horned rhino.
Went there twice.hardly found any.
Other fauna like pelicans and deers are also not seen.
The elephant ride timings are in 3 shifts (6:30 am,7:30 am and 8:30 am onwards for which you have to arrive 30 mins early respectively). When asked, neither of the 3 shifts found any one horned rhino.
They have 5 elephants for each ride carrying 4 people each.
Elephant routes are hardly 2-3km long in the jungle.
Conclusion -The national park is great if you want an elephant ride in the forest.Cost per head is on a higher side. The guide provided is compulsory and is good for nothing.
However Jeep routes are longer (approx 15km) and last upto 1.5hr. You can spot tribal dance after 3:30pm.

The quality of food is also good but if you are with family or senior citizen or someone sick I will recommend to stay at Jaldapara tourist lodge. Just beside the forest. Beautiful place , at night it's crowded . People from India come here to visit this town . Indians , Bangladeshi and Maldives people need to take a pass from the border . And no one else from other countries can enter from there without a valid visa .

One of the cynosures of the Phuentsholing town. It's a Buddhist temple. People from all walks of life congregate here for a wisp of fresh air and seek refuge in the Buddhist doctrine. It has prayer wheels, a park, and some site beautifications done making an iconic structure in the town.
Note: this site has been plotted twice. The other one is "Zangtopelri" and I didn't realise I had already reviewed it years ago.
It, as it seems, is the only place in the town that is quaint and refreshing amidst the hustle and bustle in its surrounding spaces. It is also an instant attraction to the people passing by the same particularly, the Indian residents. I have often seen them frequent this place for site-seeing and some clicks.
The place is suitable for a visit for people of all ages. As you can see, there are some elderly who come here to pray and circumambulate; there are teens who come here to meet their friends; there are kids who enjoy playing there; and there are some shoppers too who come there for some rest too.
And lately, the setting up of open gym inside this facility has added more to this place. Worth a visit, for sure.

Zangdo Pelri Lhakhang is a site of great religious significance in Bhutan. Also known as the ‘Paradise of Guru Rinpoche’, it sits right in the heart of the Phuentsholing town, just close to the Bhutan Gate and Immigration Office, offering peace and solace to the distressed hearts. Built in the 1900s by Dasho Aku Tongmi, the musician and composer of Bhutan’s National Anthem, the temple is a three-storied complex with splendid exteriors fringed with a beautiful garden where visitors can relax and soak in the spiritual vibes.

Chilapata Forest
National forest
Nature & Parks
Densely wooded reserve popular for safaris, home to wildlife including rhinos, monkeys & elephants.
Although Chilapata is a renowned and dense forest, still it is yet to get any honour for National Park or Reserve Forest. Chilapata forest comes under Jalpaiguri district in eastern Dooars and closes to Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary. Enriched with flora and fauna Chilapata forest forms an elephant corridor between Jaldapara National Park and Buxa Tiger Reserve. The ecological boundary of Chilapata spreads along the banks of Bania river in the east and river Torsha in the west. Both rivers bring fresh monsoon alluvial to support and protect the grassland ecosystem of the forest.
Chilapata in Dooars is a dense forest and offers the genuine flavour of wild-life in the wilderness. Going through the forest is really thrilling to feel like cutting a green wall. Once famous for its terror of bandits, the forest has become one of the major visiting places for the visitors travelling in Dooars. Chilapata forest features the wonders of wildlife in the real colour of nature.
Chilapata is a hub of wild animals. It used to have a large number of one-horned rhinos. But the ruthless killing by the King of Coochbehar during the last leg of the 19th century brought to dwindling of the population of rhinos. Apart from one-horned rhinos, a large number of elephants, bison, deer, leopard, lesser cats, cheetal, sambar, barking deer, wild boar etc. are available in the forest.
Reptiles like python, krait, cobra, water monitor and freshwater turtles enrich the wildlife of Chilapata forest make it one of the most precious treasures in Dooars.
Chilapata is also one of the favourite destinations for bird watchers in Dooars. The forest boasts about its colourful and beautiful birds like a fishing eagle, shikara, crested eagle, jungle fowl, peaceful partridge, Bengal florican, paradise flycatchers, racket tailed drongo, pied hornbill etc. Chilapata also is known for its butterfly species of diversity.
*Best time to visit* :
Many of North Bengal areas remains in beautiful atmospheric condition from the month of September to the month of February. Therefore, this time is the most suitable to visit Chilapata.

One can feel the eerie silence of the forest and watch animals and birds in their natural habitat. We say peacocks and bison. But forest guides are not so professional or knowledgeable. Avoid perfumes and vibrant colors during the safari. One has to buy online tickets in advance and pay the guide and jeep charges on spot.

Absolute trash jungle safari. The government officials will try to scam you and behave very rudely with you. They will charge you for guide but the guide will not say a single word and if you ask him anything he will just rudely behave with you. The only good thing is at the end of the safari, where you'll get to see some cultural dance by some very sweet locals.

Chilapata Forest is a dense and beautiful forest, which is a part of the Jaldapara Sanctuary. The Bania River flows through the forest. The nearst town is Hashimara, where we stayed at the Malangi Lodge. You can reserve the safari online through the WBFDA site by providing details of members. We paid Rs.480/- for 4 persons. Details of ID card of all members is required to be filled in and online payment made. We had booked the 4-5.30 pm afternoon safari and needed to report at the Chilapata Range Office by 10am. We paid Rs.1500/- as Vehicle Hire Charges, Rs.350/- as Guide Fees, Rs.200/- for Rava Dance and Rs.400/- for Entry Fee at that office. We were a group of 4. Original ID cards as provided at the time of online booking are checked there. The gypsy was exclusive for our party. The forest is said to have been named after Bir Chilarai, the commander-in-chief of King Nara Narayan's army. Remains of parapet walls of what was the Nal King's fort are visible but in a dilapidated condition. The guide will also show you the tree which bleeds -the Ram Guna tree. The forest is dense and the drive is lovely. All of a sudden, we came across a bison standing majestically, right in our path. We stopped at some distance, and then spied another one in the trees. It is advisable to maintain a distance from the animals and avoid making any kind of noise. We came across another bison close to the track during our return trip. Overall, a very satisfying safari.

A beautiful trekkers' hut named Dukpa's Hut (with attached bath) is located just opposite to the Buxa Fort ground and besides of Rupang Valley Trek route
More than 100,000 cattle graze in the reserve daily. Weeds, unpalatable grasses and shrubs have invaded the overgrazed areas

Buxa Tiger Reserve lies in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. Its northern boundary runs along the international border with Bhutan. The Sinchula hill range lies all along the northern side of BTR and the eastern boundary touches that of the Assam state. National Highway No.31 C roughly runs along its southern boundary. It is the easternmost extension of extreme bio-diverse North-East India and represents highly endemic Indo-Malayan region. The fragile "Terai Eco-System" constitutes a part of this reserve.
Mriganka Saha — Google review
Buxa Tiger Reserve is in the northeastern corner of West Bengal, bordering Bhutan and Assam. Buxa Tiger Reserve was set up on 16th of February, 1983 and was then, the 15th tiger reserve of the country. The forest constituting the Buxa Tiger Reserve is the largest in Dooars - the alluvial floodplains of Northeast India. Spanning over a whopping 759 sq. km., this tiger reserve is irrigated by several rivers and their tributaries. It boasts of a diverse and breathtaking landscape. In fact, because of the rocky terrain, many parts of the forest in the Buxa hills that lie in the Sinchula Range are inaccessible even by the authorities, and hence remain unexplored even after so many years!
Another interesting fact about this tiger reserve is that it serves as an international corridor for the migration of elephants between India and Bhutan. This is because the Phipsu Wildlife Sanctuary in Bhutan is adjacent to the northern part of the Buxa Tiger Reserve. This reserve is home to 67 species of mammals, 36 species of reptiles and 230 species of unidentified flora and fauna and encompasses more than eight types of forests. The great diversity of mammals in this reserve makes it the second highest among all tiger reserves in India.

Buxa Tiger Reserve is a beautiful area encompassing forests, hills and rivers. It covers a large area and contains a variety of flora and fauna. The same forest extends eastwards into the Manas Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam. Not all areas of this reserve are accessible, and there are few places to stay in the vicinity due to restrictions on construction of hotels and resorts by the court. One needs to take a permit from the Forest Office as Rajabhatkhawa. We paid Rs.880/- for 4 persons plus vehicle. Photo ID is required. There is a Nature Interpretation Centre nearby, which provides information about birds and animals in the sanctuary. You can spend some time.there and leave your comments. The drive to Jayanti was lovely. We took the afternoon Jeep Safari at 1.30 pm which cost Rs.1500/- for 4 persons inclusive of everything. The jungle was quite dense in parts and we came across a herd of elephants at a water hole. A magnificent sight! The river Jayanti flows through this reserve. There is no online booking for this safari. Jayanti/Buxa should definitely be included in your itinerary if you visit the Dooars. The sheer natural beauty of the place is amazing

Madan Mohan Bari or Madan Mohan Temple in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, is one of the most important Hindu temples in North Bengal. It is dedicated to Lord Krishna and was built during the fag end of the 19th century. Unlike other Hindu temples, the Madan Mohan Temple Mandir is pure white in color. Below is the highlights of temple along with short history of Cooch Behar Madan Mohan Bari.
The large temple complex also houses the idols of Goddess Kali, Goddess Tara and Goddess Bhavani. Raas Mela, in October or November, and Rath Yatra, in June or July, are the most important festivals.
Lord Shiva worshipper Maharaja Nara Narayan (1554-1588 AD) influenced by Sankardev (Baishnav spiritual preacher of Assam), sculpted the original murti of Lord Madan Mohan.
The current temple was built during the 19th century AD.
On 8th July, 1889 Maharaja Nripendra Narayan laid the foundation stone of the temple.

Madanmohan temple was built by Malla king Durjan Singha (pronunciation: sing-ho) in 1695 AD. It is relatively a bigger Eka-Ratna temple compared to other similar temples in Bishnupur and is important too. The temple has a square base of 12.2m X 12.2m and a height of 10.7m above a moderate platform.

It's a Hindu temple. It's the temple of lord Krishna. Earlier it may have some historical background but now it's purely a religious organization. For camera and phone you have to pay an extra of 50/and 20/- respectively. No entry fee. If you are not interested in visiting a temple nothing much to see. Quite a crowded places.

We went on the Ranidhunga day hike and it was a beautiful experience. We wanted to do something different from the sightseeing we usually do as tourists but also something that's doable for beginners. The Ranidhunga hike was just right. Our guide Snacgahang was very kind and it was a joy hiking with him. He was also very knowledgeable about the plants and animals and local lore. The packed lunch and tea were refreshing. I found out about Smile Panda online and co-ordinated with Chayan over phone. He was very accommodating and arranged for our hike on rather short notice. Overall a great experience!

Built in 16th century. One of the Panchatirthas (meaning-5 shrines) in Hajo. Had a lake with fish and tortoises. Good place for looking into Medival times craftmanship as well as for devotion. Situated in Nakkati hill, so will give a eye view of Hajo. This graceful and famous vaisnava shrine of Hajo dedicated to Lord Visnu is popularly known as Hayagriva Madhava. Standing on an isolated hill, popularly known as Manikut Parvat, this temple was rebuilt in CE 1583 by Koch king Raghudeva (CE 1581- 1603), over the foundation of the ancient temple ruins of 10th- 11th century CE, as reflected in the plinth through mouldings of friezes of elephants(Gajatharas) and geometrical designs of low relief in the basement. The layout of the temple follows the original salient features and recesses of the earler plan. The Nagara Sikhara of the temple is gracefully executed with the sculptures of various divinities of the Brahmanical pantheon over the garbhagriha and the flat roof of mandapa is connected through an antarala. The doorway of the mandapa is arched and its roof is supported by four massive pillars on the four corners.

Shri Shri Hayagriv Madhav Mandir is a famous Hindu temple located in Hajo, a small town in the Kamrup district of Assam, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Hayagriva avatar, which is the god of knowledge and wisdom.
According to legends, the temple was originally built in the 6th century AD by the King of the Pala dynasty, Bhaskar Varman. However, the temple was destroyed by Muslim invaders and was later rebuilt by the Koch King, Raghudeva Narayan in the 16th century.
The temple is considered to be one of the most significant pilgrimage sites in Assam and is visited by thousands of devotees every year. The main shrine of the temple is a five-tiered structure with a dome-shaped top, and it is surrounded by smaller shrines dedicated to other Hindu deities.
The temple is also known for its unique architecture, which combines Hindu and Islamic styles. The walls of the temple are adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures, and the ceiling is painted with scenes from Hindu mythology.
The temple is also home to a large library that houses a vast collection of ancient manuscripts and books on various subjects. The library is open to the public and is a must-visit for anyone interested in exploring the rich cultural heritage of Assam.
The best time to visit Shri Shri Hayagriv Madhav Mandir is during the annual festival of Janmashtami, which is celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm. During the festival, the temple is decorated with lights and flowers, and devotees offer prayers and perform traditional dance and music.

This is the Mandir that gives me the vibes of an old temple. I have visited this temple almost every year form my childhood and no other temple can give me the vibes that Shri shri Hayagriv Madhav Mandir can. This temple will give you the vibes of a really old temple. Most of the temples have a feeling of modernity but Madhav Mandir doesn't which attracts me the most. Also the beauty of the place around the temple gives me a good vibe. Altogether this is a place you must try to visit. Seek blessings from Lord Vishnu and wish for a beautiful life.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Devotees have to first take off their shoes/sandals/slippers and wash their feet and then only can go to the temple. It is situated on top a hillock. The way to the temple has about 95 steps from the gate to the main entrance. The moment you enter the place, history engulfs you. The temple has engravings and stone-cut portraits of deities on the walls. The craftsmanship is worth mentioning. Devotees can offer prayer to Lord Vishnu. From the top, people get a very nice view of Hajo town and the nearby suburbs and agricultural fields.

The Hajo town in Kamrup district is about 25 km away from Guwahati and is visited by Hindus, Budhists and Muslims because of its several temples and Pav Mosque. First we visited Haygriva Madhav Temple situated on Monicut Hills. There are several shops and restaurants besides parking for vehicles here. To go to the temple on the hillock one has to climb about 100 straight steps and that could be painful for senior citizens or persons with knee problems. However, after reaching the top we were really enthralled to find a small and clean temple made of stones presenting a beautiful view of greenery all around and a big pond also. There are several small temples also. The original temple is believed to have been constructed in 6th century AD by the erstwhile Hindu rulers who probably believed in Vaishnavism. Having undergone destruction in later centuries by foreign invaders it was rebuilt in 17th century. It is octagonal in shape and its walls have beautiful carvings. The ruling deity of the temple is the man-lion incarnation of Lord Vishnu and it is highly revered by the Hindus. It is also revered by the Budhists because they believe that Lord Budha got Nirvan (breathed last) here after prayer. It is a very clean and well maintained campus and is always crowded because people from far and near regularly visit the temple. There are also two more temples about 20 to 30 km away, like Kedareshwara temple of Lord Shiva and Madan Kamdeva temple (where Kamdeva, lord of passion was burnt by Lord Shiva when he opened his 3rd eye to send fire rays on Kamdeva on being distracted from meditation. Due to shortage of time we could not go there. However, we visited Pav Mecca that came on our way while returning. It is also situated on a hillock but the uphill curvy road going there is in a very good condition. This mosque also has a history and is of great importance. The foundation soil is believed to have been brought from Mecca and so people who cannot afford to visit Mecca come here as it has Pav (one fourth) importance. It is believed to have been constructed by Moghul emperor Shahjahan's general who had camped here during battle against the local Hindu king and later died. The whole Hajo town thus has great history and is worth the visit.

Visitors are required to present a Rapid Antigen Test report at the office near the entrance gate due to COVID restrictions. The temple is situated a few kilometers away from the Guwahati Railway Station, and is open for visitors throughout the year. There is a legend attached to the history of the temple, which goes way back to the mythological age. According to the legend, Sati the wife of Lord Shiva (one of the holy Trinities in Hindu mythology) took her life at a 'Yagna' ceremony that had been organized by her father Daksha, because she could not bear the insults hurled at her husband by her father. On hearing the news of his wife's death, Shiva, the destroyer of all that was evil flew into a rage and punished Daksha by replacing his head with that of a goat. Torn between misery and blind fury, Shiva picked up the corpse of his beloved wife Sati and performed a dance of destruction called the 'Tandava'. The intensity of the destroyer's fury was so overwhelming that it took several Gods to pacify his anger. In the midst of this struggle, Sati's corpse accidentally got cut into 51 parts by the disc in the hands of Lord Vishnu (also one of the Trinities in Hindu mythology), and her female genitalia or 'Yoni' fell on the spot where the Kamakhya temple stands today, forming one of the many Shakti 'Peethas' embellishing the rest of her body parts.

I didn't like it for some reason. Outside shop keeper run after you to drop your footwear there and buy something from. Its good foe local economy but after a time it looks like harrasment to devotees and tourist.
After entering in Temple it was good feeling but then suddenly I saw slaughter house inside and one big animal may be cow recently slaughtered. There were many small goats (lambs) I was feeling sad to see them getting ready to be cut.
Overall, temple is good but people around and locals are making it bad.

Such a divine and nice temple. So much cleaned and vivid. A must visit with family and friends. It was really a pleasure to be there. It feels so calm and peaceful after we have worshipped the goddess Parvati Maa. It is said that it is one part of the 51 parts of Maa Parvati. It is a manyata that you have to visit Umananda temple (A temple of lord Shiva). after visiting here to complete the visit. The Umananda Temple is around 5-10 km from here and you have to reach there by taxi or your personal vehicle and then take a ferry or private boat to reach the island as It is situated in between the River Brahmaputra. Assam has been blessed with so many grateful things but this temple just made it to a favourite place of Hindu devotees.

In these days of COVID situation, you need to show Rapid antigens test report to the office near the entrance gate. If all good then they will give a pass for darshan inside garv greh. If not then you can enter the temple premise and do puja only.
If you don’t have report then there are camps doing it in the city down the hill. Report comes in max 1-2 hrs.
Temple opens at 8am in winters. Due to COVID there was no rush in morning. At 7:30am there were only 10-15 people ahead of me. Darshan was peaceful and pandit jee gave enough time. Wonderful...
Please do plan to visit this temple and be blessed!

The temple boasts well-maintained park-like grounds that enhance its beauty. Located by the highway with ample free parking space, it is easily accessible to visitors. However, photography within the temple premises is prohibited.
Good place to visit when you are in Guwahati. The atmosphere is pristine and the temples are beautiful by its own unique design and quality. Best time to visit this is in the evening. You can definitely go for a stroll through the gardens.

The infrastructure of Tirupati Balaji Temple is incredible. And it is very peaceful to be around the temple and the temple is also very hygienic, neat and clean.
And before darshan, the visitors are asked to put their shoes in the shoe stand for 1 rupee per pair.
There's also another store where prasad is sold for 80 rupees per pair of Ladoo.
The temple is surrounded by an outdoor garden, however, the visitors are not allowed to go and sit there due to covid protocols. However, even after putting posters of "No mask, No entry" and "Double dose of covid vaccination is mandatory for Darshan", the security doesn't check if the visitors are wearing masks or not and they also don't check if they are double vaccinated or not. This is quite reckless from their end as most of the visitors are going for darshan without wearing masks.
Apart from that, Balaji Temple provides parking and there's also a food joint next to the parking which provides delicious south Indian Food.

The temple is divided into the following parts.
In the beginning there is a separate temple of Lord Ganesha.
After that there is a very clean park.
Now there are two gates side by side with one main gate.
All three represent the three temples inside.
There is a temple of Balaji in front of the main gate.
And there is a temple of Durga Mata and Radha Krishna ji in two adjacent gates.
All the three temples are built from inside in the middle of the gardens.
⚠️️It is strictly forbidden to take photos only inside the temple. The security personnel are very strict in this matter. I have made a failed attempt myself.
The parking system is very well organized.
There are stalls selling food and snacks in a very neat and organized manner.
Evening time is good enough to visit.
✴️If you are in Guwahati then definitely visit once.

The Tirupati Balaji Temple is a magnificent temple of the city, Guwahati. This shrine is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara and is considered to be a very holy place for the Hindu pilgrims. The temple has a very unique architectural design and is built over a large area of land.
At a distance of 9 km from Guwahati Railway Station, Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Mandir is a beautiful Hindu Temple situated at Ahom Gaon area of Guwahati in Assam. It is one of the popular temples in Guwahati.
Dedicated Lord Venkateswara, Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Mandir was built in the year 1998. Sprawling over 2 acres, the temple is considered as the replica of the original Tirupati Balaji Temple. This white colored temple is built in the similar architectural style of the South Indian temples. The temple has a Rajagopuram (70 feet in height), a Maha Mandapam, an Ardha Mandapam, and the Sanctorum.
There is a Ganesha Temple at the entrance of the complex. The main temple is the home of Lord Balaji. The deity inside the sanctum sanctorum is carved out of a single stone that weighs more than 4 tonnes. Besides, there are also the temples of Goddess Padmavati and Garuda- the vahana of Lord Balaji inside the premises. A recent addition to the temple complex is the Yagasala that has been built in traditional style to enable devotees to perform Yagnas.

This temple has its own charm. Peaceful and quiet place. Garden adds to temple beauty. The temple is well maintained and also helds responsible staffs who are looking after the temple sincerely. Easy to located as it is located adjacent to highway with ample free parking space. Inside the gates of temples taking photos📸 is prohibited. It is very good place for family, friends. Late evening time is one of the best time to visit and the sunset 🌅 seems to be very very beautiful .The whole environment brings peace to mind. 😊

Very serene atmosphere. Deity can completely fascinate one. It was a wonderful experience overall.
Photography is restricted inside temple premises.
We also purchased laddoo from the temple which costed INR 50 for one piece and it was similar in taste to main tirupati temple. They do not use digital payment only cash is accepted.

Most of devotees visit there are marwari people. And due to rich businessman visit here regularly mandir is doing business in premium category. Means nothing mandatory that you have to pay but the atmosphere is something like that you can't pay less if you donate or do any puja or any paid things.

A beautiful temple built by Tirupati authority in Guwahati, Assam is worth visiting. Beautifully decorated and manicured gardens will make you awestruck. The deity draws reverence for everybody. Laddu prasadam is sold at the temple counter. The taste of the prasadam is unforgettable.

The Balaji temple in Guwahati is spread out in a two acres land and the complex also includes other adjacent temples. At the entrance of the temple complex, there is a Ganesha temple.
The center temple which also is the main temple is dedicated to Lord Balaji and is constructed in the middle. The temple has an idol of Balaji deity carved out of a single stone weighing around 4 tones. There are also temples of Goddess Padmavathi and Garuda, the Vahana of Lord Balaji on the premises. Besides a Rajagopuram, the main temple has the beautiful Maha Mandapam, the Sanctum of the temple and Ardha Mandapam.
The Gopurams are constructed in sync with the South Indian architectural style like the Tirupati Balaji temple with heights ranging from 8 feet in the Ganesh temple to around 70 feet in the Rajagopuram.
The temple looks beautiful with pure white architectural structures and images of deities carved out in the walls. The wooden doors of the temple are handcrafted in Chennai and bear beautiful carvings.
There is also a garden park located outside the temple for tourists to enjoy the scenic beauty. There is also a Goddess Durga temple towards the right hand side of the main temple built on the outlook that Guwahati also id the seat of Goddess Kamakhya with the Kamakhya temple located in the Nilachal hills.
The temple premises also have a Yagasala built recently for performing yagnas. In addition to that, there is an auditorium decorated with beautiful interiors and exquisitely designed statues.
The Asthanamandapan hall auditorium features cultural functions of classical and folk music gatherings regularly during Sundays. The Dasavathar of Lord Vishnu has been beautifully depicted in the Asthanamandapan hall. The temple is well illuminated during night with glowing lights and can be seen from a distance.

Giving 4 stars for the nostalgic memories associated with this place. visited this place twice in my lifetime but as a kid it was my first adventurous trip of witnessing wild animals. Truly that feeling and experience can't be described in words. Though now there's not much animals left in the zoo, also the variety of animals kept here is less but still one can visit here.

Had a great time at Assam State Zoo. I went with my family and we beheld the mesmerizing sights of the nature including natural view, animals such as deers, zebras, tigers, lions and much more. But we could not see the black panthers and white tigers. Hope to visit again in future ✌🏻.

A wonderful beautiful zoo in this city of Guwahati. I and my whole family had a great time. There are birds, tigers, bears and many other things in this zoo. It took a whole day to explore here. Buying tickets online is faster. All zoos open at 8:30. Animals are outside in the morning. One horned rhinoceros is special in this zoo. I like it so much that I will come again and again with my family.
Debanjan Chakrabarti — Google review
We visited the zoo on a Saturday, and we booked the tickets online. After entering, they do a security check, you have yo leave your bag there. They do not allow you to carry any bags or food, which is a good thing as it reduces the risk of visitors feeding the animals. There is no cafe or anything available to eat for tourists or visitors inside the zoo. The zoo is not in a very good condition. It requires a lot of maintenance
We saw the black panther, hippopotamus, gibbons, lions, tigers, alligator, snakes, foxes, crocodile, pelicans, bears and monkeys and on the way out we saw the ecological museum which was the highlight of our trip. The skins of some of the zoo animals that died have been preserved by stuffing them. Then there were eco toilets for which we had we paid 5 rs per person. Those who can not walk long distances can use the buggies, charges per person are rs 50. Just wish that the drivers would know more about the animals. While coming out there is a souvenir shop which has some interesting things to buy.

It's a good place for kids and also the BOV (Battery Operated Vehicle) service is great.
Also the renovation of the zoo is also under consideration and I hope it will become much better than now.
Great for kids to watch wild animals in real life, which is a rarity these days.

Wonderful and amazing zoo to see fauna of eastern India. Species of deer, monkeys, snakes, birds etc. can be found here. Leopard, tiger and lions can be seen. Few species of snakes can also be found. A museum at entry gate must be visited as real skins, bones and bodies of dead animals are exhibited here for tourists. The zoo fees is Rs 30/- and it takes nearly 2 hours to cover whole zoo.

This zoo is situated in the heart of Guwahati. In complete natural environment you can see the animals, birds and trees. It has a good parking area .. Eateries and washrooms are also available inside zoo. No plastic packages are allowed inside zoo premises. No feeding of the animals allowed. This is the only one escape point for city people to experience greenery at large . Must visit 👍

Good place to spend a Sunday with family. I just hope the authorities will give more priority to the animals and provide them with a better and more natural habitat instead of keeping them in cages and closed enclosures without any importance to the animal's environment.

I recently visited the zoo, and it exceeded my expectations. The diverse range of animals, from majestic lions to playful otters, captivated my attention. Well-maintained habitats provide a comfortable environment for each species. Overall, it a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and families alike.

Such a beautiful and clean place. You will be welcomed by the cheerful voices of the Gibbon monkeys. Many small deers are kept open, you may get close look to them.
Many parts seem like a real jungle as it is situated on a hill. Most of the Animals are also kept in a natural and comfortable environment. For those who can't walk a long, there are the e-cart/van available for 50₹ per person.
Morning time is the best.
Worth for Adults and the best for the Children.

Great place for spending time with friends and family . The zoo is very large and it will not make you bored cuz there's always something to see . Greenery everywhere and such a peaceful place perhaps not for the animals ;) . Cleanliness is maintained and one can find guide maps everywhere to help you know which way to go . One can also use the electric vehicles which are affordable and will drop you from one station to another inside the zoo . Talking about animals , one can see many animals including exotic animals like girraffe and zebra . And many species of deer that you will even be bored seeing deer ;) . The ticket price is currently Rs 33 for adults and will vary according to children and foreign tourists . One can also explore the bone museum which has many bones of different animals .

Other than cash they take all sorts of online payments the waiting time was annoying at the ticket counter but it's worth every penny when you are accompanied by your kids. The place is well maintained and now golf carts were introduced to take people from one station to another. Lots of new species are there and you need to spend time to see everything.

Nice place to relax.
They have animals missing from many other zoos.
As of march 2024 they do have rhinos, tigers, lions, giraffes, hippos and black panthers to name a few.
The zoo has an entry fee of 35-40 rupee and the ticket can be easily bought on the zoo's website to save time, the area of zoo is somewhat of a hilly terrain and if you are with elderly there are battery powered car services available in the zoo for small cost.
There are several small shops inside the zoo selling juice ( mango, watermelon etc) but no food. The only food shop is in the parking lot.
The animals seemed healthy but the zoo can have some renovation as the water for drinking for animals is dirty.
I don't mind paying more for entry fees if it means that animals can have a better life in zoo.
Abhishek — Google review
The zoo doesn't have too many animals but it's still worth it because:
1) you get to get very close to the 3-4 different types of deer.
2) you can view a lot of birds in the aviaries.

Went to this zoo recently. The entry ticket is 33Rs for adults. No cash is accepted. Payment is mostly done online. And it's quite a good zoo. Although it's not a very big zoo, it's a great place to spend time watching many animals, birds, snakes and reptiles
You can find the botanical garden near the rhinoceros area. And I went in the afternoon. Hence all the animals were sleeping there (you can see in my videos)

It was great.
I wasn't able to take better pictures cuz of the fencing, but here's a few.
Do visit here for a nice exploration.
Sprawling wildlife sanctuary providing a habitat for one-horned rhinos & birds, plus elephant rides.
Very good wildlife sanctuary.
It's nearer to guwahati. We visited there and saw a lot of single horn rhinos.
You can take a ride in Elephant or in a Jeep.
Best is the Elephant ride. If you go in a Jeep then one person will also accompany you from forest department.
We saw Rhinos, boar and wild pigs.
